Everything is New

It is a strange and spectacular phenomenon to share the same space as someone whom you've never met. And never having met this person, to love them so, so very much.

And these kicks. What a thing. Even at 26 weeks sometimes it feels a bit surreal that I'm brewing a little human. And the more it moves, the more my heart swells.

Finding God’s Grace

You guys, I don't know about you, but because of knowing just how unworthy I am of anything good and beautiful, I find God nudging me daily to notice the small things in life to take joy in. As we prepare to move to Peebles, I've been noticing so many things that we've "endured" the past 7 years that I know we cannot wait to say goodbye to. 3 years and some odd weeks ago when we moved out of Restoration Hall and into Field Terrace, we were beside ourselves to finally  have windows that opened and a patio door that led right out onto the ground, we were excited to have a dishwasher and a pantry, laundry that either of us could access, being able to walk around a neighborhood without feeling afraid for our lives, and simply having more room to live our life in. That time in our lives didn't come without it's share of struggles, but we took so much solace in those small things, and knowing we were about to have them as we jumped into parenthood together. All those things aside though, apartment living is far from something we want to do anymore, and goodness are we in for a treat.

Our new church family is already taking care of us in some small and very big ways. The biggest way so far is that they have found us a beautiful farmhouse to rent as we begin our journey into home ownership. A HOUSE! Craig and I have been dreaming of living in a house for so long. Our dream filled chats usually end with "but I don't know that we'll ever get the chance to own a home, but maybe someday". We have our wishlist ready and we're so ready to begin the process. But until the day that we're able to do so, I have some pretty significant things that none of us are going to miss. This farmhouse that we're renting is gorgeous and newly renovated. The fact that it's not a dump or badly outdated has me feeling seriously unworthy, so my gratitude is pretty through the roof. There will be no more stairs to climb, no more paying for laundry, no more  smelling our neighbors smoking pot or their smoke alarms going off because they passed out from getting high after beginning to cook food (and we have to call the police). We will FINALLY, after so much dreaming, have windows on more than just one side of our home to open, so we can actually enjoy fresh air (i cannot contain my excitement about this!). I mean, after 11 years, I won't have to lug groceries up or down stairs (minus the 1 year in college we lived in a house). We won't have to share parking spaces, wondering if we'll be able to park reasonably close to our front door. We'll be able to have friends over for dinner without feeling like it would be better to go to their home because it's inconvenient to come to ours.

Apartment, and dorm, living hasn't been awful. I mean, we've just been grateful to have a decent home in a safe neighborhood to live in with heat and AC. What more could we ask for? But as we head into the next chapter, we're finding joy in so many of the small things that God is giving us that I just had to share, because God is so good and loves us in so many beautiful ways.
