Why change matters and how Amphibia did it better than The Owl House.

"Watching and Dreaming" made me cry a lot during its premiere. I was amazed and, I'd say, dazed by it. Then I forgot about it for a while. Now I finished re-watching Amphibia for the first time since TOH ended. My hype died down, and I have some thoughts. A lot, actually.

Amphibia's ending was incredibly painful and made me sob like a baby for two whole weeks the first time I watched it. That's because it was not only beautiful and heartbreaking, but truly GOOD. Brilliant, actually. I absolutely agree with a statement that any other ending would literally be a contradiction to the whole main plot, especially Anne's arc. The girls had to learn to let go in order to grow as individuals - the thing they had the biggest problem with. Saying goodbye was the only logical option, plot-wise. It still hurt like hell, though. Separating the multidimensional, against-all-odds relationships (especially my beloved spranne. Ouch, ouch, ouch). The Owl House does no such thing - everybody stays together. They live happily ever after.

Paradoxically, I think that it's the main reason why I'd choose "The Hardest Thing" over "Watching and Dreaming" every single time. I know we shouldn't really compare them in EVERY aspect, since TOH had way more things to deal with in the final episode, but the fact that Luz got to not only stay, but to freely travel between worlds as she pleases really took the whole "growing up and finding your true self no matter what the other people do/say about you" thing out the door. Luz from season one, episode one, and Luz from the finale are not really that different. Well, she certainly became more traumatised and depressed than before, but in terms of personal growth? Nope. Luz - from the very beginning - was cheerful, open, caring and very selfless, willing to literally help every stranger she met no matter how it would affect her. She had little to no boundaries, but, well, you can't argue that she was A GOOD, SELFLESS PERSON. Now, we could say that her arc here would be learning that sometimes you should put yourself before others, that you can't save everyone, that you can't trust every person you meet. And she learns it! She fucking does! She helps Philip not knowing who he will become, and then suffers from the consequences, because she helped the wrong person. And then it's all erased, when she saves Collector's life and meets Papa Titan (or whatever we call them).

I have so much to say about this. All of TOH's "villains" (Amity, Lilith, Hunter, The Collector) that were given a redemption arc literally get turned into lifeless, edgy trauma dumpsters, that suddenly loose all of their previous character, quirks and sass (well, maybe except for Lilith, she just started to express them differently, I think, but still, it was WAY too big of a change). I won't dwell on it (since many, many fans called it out already - as they should), and will focus on something different. The only one marked as irredeemable is Belos. Good. Okay. He's irredeemable, because he's a white, christian puritan who won't listen to anyone but himself. Also a genocidal maniac. That's the lesson for Luz here. "You can't save everyone. Some people are just straight up evil". And it's very, very true. But.

From all of the "villains" I mentioned before, Belos is the one that had the most reasons to, let's say, take a dark turn. Those reasons are what makes him irredeemable - he's just too convinced he's right, because, in his mind, he has evidence to prove it. But how do we learn about this? Maybe by seeing his part of the story? Maybe by learning about his brother and Evelyn, about their relationship? It couldn't be straight up awful, since Philip literally brought his brother back to life over and over again, he wanted his brother, or at least the picture of Caleb that satisfied him the most. There was more to it than only "you betrayed me and now I will hate you forever". Do we get to see any of that? No. Instead we get an all-knowing, all-doing being that literally choose Luz as "the one" for being kind and trusting, that convinces her that Belos is, indeed, a lost cause. Do you see where I'm going with this?

Luz, the person that on the literal episode two was told that there is no such thing as a "chosen one" and that she can't always hop into action to save everybody, because, it's, well, not always possible, DOES EXACTLY THAT in the finale by taking a bullet for The Collector, the, you know, very freshly redeemed and suddenly cute and funky villain, whom Luz trusts immediately. AND SHE IS REWARDED FOR IT BY BEING MADE THE CHOSEN ONE. BY A GOD-LIKE BEING THAT CLAIMS TO BE ALL-KNOWING AND CAN DECIDE WHO IS RIGHT AND WHO IS WRONG, BECAUSE OF PERSONAL (King) REASONS. Just like, you know... Belos? The irredeemable villain? And then Luz lets go of the moral dilemmas that's been keeping her up at night for the past months, makes up her mind, defeats the bad guy, learns nothing, and gets to stay in the Boiling Isles and on Earth. With her beautifully redeemed girlfriend and friends whom she kept secrets from and lied to out of fear of being ostracised (you see the pattern here, right?) for, again, months.

I love Amphibia. I love The Owl House. But Amphibia handles it's "villains", generally wronged characters and the whole change/no change thing way better. Well, maybe besides the Core - they got a bit wasted in my opinion. But still. Sasha. Grime. Marcy. Andrias. Anne herself. They learn and change. And more importantly, they face consequences and come to understand and accept them. There's no "chosen one" here. Anne gets the proposition because she's the first one to use the music box for good in literal millenia. A fact, plain and simple (not an opinion based on personal motivations), that makes sense plot-wise, and adds so, so much to Anne's arc. Because Anne from season one, episode one wouldn't care. The one from the finale cares very damn much. And that's the biggest difference.

Saying goodbye makes the message way stronger. The more I think about it, however, the more I'm starting to be afraid that there's no The Message in The Owl House to begin with. Luz learns very little, yet ends up with everything she ever wanted. There's no power behind it. The "find the right people and choose to trust them, not everyone will be your friend" and "some things are out of your control, some people are just bad" aspect is even weaker, as proven by basically the whole season 3. I will end it by my favorite quote from Amphibia, that I think about on daily basis. Have a good day, y'all.

Imagine: Derek having to convince you that you deserve love

You weren’t particularly fond of it. Emotions. I mean you had them. You can cry on a dime if you watch a sad movie or scene. And oddly enough when you get hugs.. sometimes you tear up.

You weren’t raised to be “emotional” or to Expect a lot. You weren’t neglected or ever wanted anything from your parent.s they just decent enough parents. They made sure you had food in your belly, clothes, and whatever you wanted within reason. But you were different. When you saw your friends being young and Stupid. You just saw warning signs. And you stared clear. And when All your friends got coupled up. And you were Left behind. You are sixteen. Realized. You would always be alone. So you had to make a decision. Cry and Let a status determine who you were. Or Learn to be happy with yourself which was pretty easy. You were always by yourself. Sure you had friends. But you didn’t go out to party and weren’t ever invited out. You. I just.. accepted it.

It was because of Erica you learned to about the werewolves in Beacon Hills and about Derek Hale. You knew about him. From passing. Especially since you saw him from time to time and you always had to stop. He would be a few yards away and you would stop just t Marvel at his beauty for a second before going on your way. Well after Meeting him and watching Erica change completely. With her personality and boldness, you barely recognized Erica. You were changed to. Not by choice. Derek just did it. Derek kept his word he didn’t bring it up again, Not after Erica died, Or Boyd..Isasic-you wasn’t sure what happened to him. one second he was with the hunter and the next in Paris? or Egypt you weren’t sure. you’re pretty sure he is alive. either way years passed. Out of Derek’s pack, you were the only one left. Derek tried to push you off to Scott thinking you would be better and safer with him. you loved Scott he was your friend. him Stiles, Lydia, Malia but he wasn’t Derek, and you didn’t want to be in A pack without Derek as your Alpha. Derek didn’t sugarcoat anything. Scott has a can-do butterfly and rainbow outlook on things. saying that he/ the pack will Fix everything and everyone will be safe. the positivity wasn’t what you needed. you wanted the truth about the dangers. Derek was the only one who gave you the truth and true reassurance. Naturally, Derek tried everything in his power to Ride himself of you but you were Stubborn. and refused. 

After High school, you went away, and Derek encouraged it. wanting you to experience Life, and Scott promised he would Stay in beacon hill to protect and help the younger wolves. which He did.. until Liam graduated and Scott just figured that the wolves and all the supernatural mischief would Just Stop. you were Slightly furious that Scott Left Beacon Hill, after promising he would stay and be the Alpha and help out whenever a new Big Bad showed up. Derek was there. with Eli but it wasn’t the same. Scott was the Alpha since Derek lost his ranking. it was Scott’s responsibility, not Derek’s. you moved back to help out. plus you got offered a teaching position.  

Returning to Beacon Hill Derek was Stunned to smell you, you smelt the same as when you left. he was stunned as you hugged Eli and gave him a long story about your adventures in New Orleans. One of the Downfalls of being the Alpha he could smell the scents off you. it originally was a thing for Alpha to have over their packs to keep them safe. hundreds of years ago. but now it was Creepy.. and Even the other pack members can smell who was close to the others. but Alpaha’s noses are more tuned in and he could smell right now to how long it was lasting. unfortunately, Derek smell your former lovers.. or in your case your Lack of Lovers.. he was Stunned. watching you go around and give your headbutt to Malia. your secret handshake you then pulled her into a Hug. and Derek was Stunned. 

Out of All the girls, in the Pack. you were the one that knew was going to be a heartthrob, with your Shinny y/c/h and the depths of your eyes. your dry sense of humor and you’re brilliant brian. you could have easily been the CEO of any company or the Next president of the united states. you were Smart enough and could literally be Anything in the world. but you choose a Teacher. He knew your grand plan was to come back to Beacon hill one day. you loved it here. it was home. and you wanted to be here in case something bad happened to cause you wanted to protect your family. you skillfully and masterfully were able to keep your secret from them. 

When you were in High school Derek had the hardest time reminding himself. you were a high schooler and he refused to be a creep. Sure he thought about Everything he wanted to do with you, on you, to you. for you. and that was when you were in High school. Now an adult. and more confident in your words, and your mind was expanded, Everything about you changed but fundamentally you were still the same. Derek secretly cursed all the boys at your university. he figured you would be hounded by boys left and right.  he definitely figured you would have a line of boys waiting to Woo you. Malia didn’t notice her nose could only smell your soap and shampoo and the deodorant you were using and the calmness you had. 

Shifting over hugging Derek you gave him a big squeeze as he hugged you tightly. they all helped you move into Derek’s Old flat you were renting as Eli said it was going to be a man magnet for sure. which you just laughed. 

Malia soon took Eli home while Derek stuck behind as he spoke, “can I ask a personal question?” 

you were sitting on the sofa about to stick your hand into  a bag of lays chips, “yea absolutely what’s up?’  

“Why don’t you have a partner?’ 

that wasn’t what you were expecting to hear, you expecting to hear “why did you come back, why aren’t you exploring the world” along the lines of the speech he gave you when you graduate to go out and explore the world. but Not why are you single? 

“Oh- well. I don’t know- No one is knocking on my Door.” 

Derek rolled his eyes as he spoke, ‘bullshit- your beautiful, funny, kind, compassionate, Brilliant. you are the last person i expected to be Single.” 

“thank you?” you laughed at that statement as you shook your head, ‘No one- I guess. I don’t know. it’s not like I’m outspoken. I just- prefer my own company.” 

Derek saw right thru that Lie. he knew you were lying to yourself when you use to state that you were content with being just by yourself. the truth was you were terrified of loving someone. And that you were afraid No one could love you. so you are never tired.  Derek figured. after school when you went to university and the boys saw you. that they would sweep you off your feet. and you would learn you deserve Love. If it weren’t for the fact you were a high schooler when he turned you. Derek would have. he would have made you feel like a goddess on this earth. But again. Derek’s mortal compass refused to hurt you in that way. he promised himself he wouldn’t even entertain the idea of having you, being with you, until you were an adult. then you moved and he thought he would finally be finished with his crush on you. Now sitting there giving faint lies as to why you were still Single. it drove Derek even crazier.

you rolled your eyes you heard your mom give you the same speech hundreds of times. when she would call and bug you about who you were seeing. as if even If you had someone you would Go into details about your love life with your mother! But Derek was different. Derek was Derek. “I do not, it’ just- hasn’t happened. and I’m not going to Wallow in sadness because I’m alone. you’re alone.. and look at you.’  

Derek sighed heavily as he spoke “I’m alone by choice because of the only woman who could tempt me. is afraid of love.”

WOW, was all you could think about the next morning. As you laid on the floor beside your bed. The mattress you brought was completely destroyed along with half your bedding and the sofa derek brought over. You were so thankful for super healing. Since there were moved you never thought were imaginable. Derek was laying beside you. As he was breathless as you tapped his chest softly with the back of your hand.

Why does it take a minute to say hello and forever to say goodbye?

May 29 - Mónaco GP

“Any plans after the race” I asked my teammate, Alex

“Well, there’s always the Red Bull afterparty, you know that is almost a tradition, even if you DNF” I look at him and nod.

“Yeah, I can’t handle too much, not after dealing with a very drunk Charles and Lando, no thank you”

“C’mon, we need a little bit of fun. And we’re expecting the best from you, you’re Mrs. P3 today and can finish as Mrs. P1″

Safe to say that Monaco it’s not my favourite GP. Reason: none but today it’s raining and I prefer a sunny Mónaco. Who knows, maybe I want to look for a really cute french around Mónaco harbor.

I walked to my motorhome and for a moment I feel like everybody was looking at me in a weird way. I ignored it and changed in my race suit getting race before the race. The reunion got cancelled and the FIA scheduled for a little debrief, weird.

 As I go inside the room, I am looking for Alex, seems that everybody is in a rush. Being in front row in Mónaco is a big achievement and being in a Williams is like touching gold, so I can mess this up

“Alice...Al...¡Alice!” Alex is shaking my shoulder. Lando and Daniel, who are in front of us, are looking at me trying to gain my attention

“What...I get lost in my thoughts, sorry” I look around and every driver where looking at me “Why is everybody looking at me? For the record, I got a shower in the morning” The looks in their eyes are the same when my mom told that my hamster died when I was 8 years old...

What now?

I sit on the floor, looking to knowhere. Being a thousand kilometers far from home and being an only child and deciding to leave was the greatest sacrifice for my mom, saying goodbye and know, all that distance just for set myself in my biggest dream, but she’s not here today and she’s not going to be tomorrow

I'm giving up and... and I guess this is where we say goodbye, I hope to be alright, someday I'll be fine, it’s just... not tonight” I heard a lot of steps and the boys where standing in front of me with their umbrellas and Carlos have a bouquette of red roses, Yuki offers me his hand so I can stand.

Charles look at me “We are with you and even If you feel you’re alone, you’re wrong. You have 19 brothers that are going to hold your hand till the day we die. We know how close you were, we knew her and she loves you”

“She’s proud, so are we” Said Sebastian “It’s not correct for me to send you racing today but If you feel strong enough to do it for her, we’re with you, If not...well, we’re still with you, till the end of the line”

I look at them. I still have a home, they’re home

“Promise me to stay?” I asked 

“Always” All of them start hugging me and telling me that they are here for me and more lovely words. 

“Boys, It’s race time. Let’s go” I smiled and headed with Alex to our garage. I changed my suit and get ready. This is for mom, Even if i get in the bottom, this is for my number one fan. My get in the car and thumbs up to everybody. I’m okay, I’m okay

“Loud and clear” I answered to Andrew, my race engineer, 

“Okay Alice, let’s do what you do best, I give you my condolences and I tell you that this is your race, do it for your mom, today she’s looking after you...as always, kid” 

“Thank you. My mom is now an angel, let’s get that P1” I smiled and the moment we expected, lights out.

With an end time of 01:13:521, I passed the chekered flag and all of the screams of the fans and my team holding a big board with my mom’s name on it and a P1. This is definitelly a race to remember. There is no pain so great as the memory of joy in present grief, my mom is gonna be forever, even she can’t call me as she ever did or wait for me at the airport, her memory and all the time she spend taking care and helping me is something that stays.

I placed the car in front of the P1, I go out of the car and put my hands in my face, not realizing this and I saw everybody clapping at me, Checo and Lewis, stand by my side and in the big screen located at the podium a photo of my mom was present. I kneel crying. Lewis kneel by my side and then hug me, Checo did the same, I look up and the rest of the boy were there with happy faces.

I look at Lewis, we took off out helmets and balaclavas. I smiled and run to hug my team. Everybody  is cheering, joyful. I run to the boys and hug Max and then all of them join

“My home is here, thank you” 

“Anytime, A” said Mick

“Lovely and cheessy but someone needs a shower” said George and we started laughing. “Go for your trophy miss” 

“What a way to kill the moment George” Alex said, he hug me and jump with me “I must be a wizard, Mrs. P1″

“First of many, you’ll see” I follow Checo and Lewis to the podium. I look up to the sky, how gratefull I am for living my dream, being the best on it. And still...she’ll always be here. I shake the champagne and enjoy the moment with the others. My second family is here, smiling at me, clapping, cheering, laughing, all the happy ways to show me how much I mean to them.

MY THOUGHTS ON EPISODE 7X08

First off: RIP RICO PRIEM. There needs to be better safety precautions and LAWS put into place, not just contract negotiations, to ensure the safety of all cast and especially crew. No one should have to die to see our favorite show get made. We can week a few weeks/months between episodes if that is what it will take. Our little weewoo show is not more important than people getting home safe.

-honestly, tell him how it is Amir. Bobby affected more lives than just the 148 he took. As much as I love his growth and how he’s healed, the trauma extends past his victims into generational trauma that will probably be felt for several generations.

-it’s so emotionally jarring sometimes to see fun loving bobby who’s worked hard to piece his life back together. and then also remember, he’s the cause of 148 lives being taken. like....how does the man have a job? he would not experience the same treatment of the freedom he’s been allowed post apartment fire if he was a man of color.

this ask is music to my ears haha

so! the seth/kevin/allison universe. there's not much plotwise since this au is not really in my focus, plus it's mostly just a slice of life shit. but it mainly focuses on seth

in this au, seth is a middle child. he has an almost decade older brother, jesse, and a pretty shaky family situation. his father was heavy-handed and emotionally absent, his mother timid and neglectful. taking care of seth fell on jesse's shoulders, even though he too was a child. one day, seth unintentionally did something to provoke their father's anger. made a mess, asked one too many questions — choose your pick. to protect his brother, jesse took their father's ire and focus off seth and onto himself. there were shouts and curses, bloody fists and glass shards. it was worse than ever before. when jesse, injured, furious and scared, yelled at seth to run and hide, seth did. the next time seth sees his brother is 13 years later

when the house finally got quiet and seth came out of the hiding, all he saw was blood in the kitchen, his mother crying and his blank-faced father smoking as if everything was fine. no one commented on jesse's absence, nor on the blood. seth suspected their father killed him, but was too afraid to ask. for the longest time, he blamed himself for his brother's disappearance. after all, if he never annoyed father on that fateful day nothing would happen, yes? (sometimes, in moments of weakness, he thought that maybe jesse never existed in the first place, that he was just a figment of his imagination)

later, when seth got older, he grew resentful and vicious in his anger at jesse for leaving him behind. not too long after jesse left, their father fucked off to god knows where and their mother started using drugs. seth was constantly stuck between periods of depression (which he tried to fight off by stealing drugs from his mom and sinking into oblivion) and burning fury he took out on others. when seth was 16 his mother died during childbirth, leaving behind one last child — alice, a mirror image of seth

then, to put a long story short, grandparents (old and dubiously suitable for raising a child) got involved and took the two of them in. seth did not stop using drugs and wasting away. he couldn't stand looking at alice, nor taking care of her. when staying in that house became too stifling for him to manage, he left without a word and went to a small college, somewhere far away. more to get away from his family than from any want or need for a future (curiously, doing the exact thing he despised jesse for all these years. cutting any contact and leaving a child alone in less than ideal circumstances)

he was doing shitty academically, was still using and being aggressive. he started playing exy out of boredom, and it turned out to be the one thing he excelled in. there he was found by wymack and offered a place with the foxes, which he took. he didn't expect much to come out of this, and he most definitely didn't expect to ever see jesse again. but surprisingly, jesse came to see him after foxes' first game

turns out jesse not only survived all those years but also made a name for himself by being a boxer and recently went pro. went to therapy at some point too and wanted to reach out to seth and see how he's holding up. and maybe if seth would like to keep in contact with him. many angsty arguments followed ("I was a child, seth, I was scared, and I couldn't protect you" "I didn't need a protector, dipshit, I needed a brother. and you left"). in the end, they agreed to meet up from time to time

then allison joins the foxes and their thing starts (seth will never admit it, but she first caught his attention not because she's beautiful (although she is) but because something about her reminded him of alice). then kevin joins. lots of coming-of-age angst. seth loves allison, hates that he loves her, hates kevin, hates him even (or especially) when kevin looks so beautiful that his chest aches. his relationship with jesse is rocky, but it's there, which is already more than he ever expected. at some point, influenced by both allison and jesse seth actually starts trying to stop using drugs, but it's difficult when that's how he copes with depressive episodes

then, during one of his breaks with allison, when seth's pent-up and angry and tired and maybe finally coming to terms with the fact that he doesn't actually despise kevin he kisses kevin to shut him up during one of his rants. which then turns into angry hate-fucking. a mistake and a one-time thing, for sure. except then it happens again. and again. and they don't even hate each other that much. and it's soft sometimes. and they linger when the time comes for them to part. and then seth wakes up one day and realizes that he'll probably make up with allison soon, but he doesn't want that if it means losing his not-thing with kevin

more angst happens. questionable choices are made. not enough of communication is performed. since this post is already really fucking long, let's just say that it boils down to this: allison locking the three of them in a room, saying she's not stupid, and she's also not blind and since they're both hot she doesn't mind sharing. threesome happens. they start slowly but surely building an actual relationship

at first, it's more like a v shaped relationship? like, seth is romantically involved with both allison and kevin, while the two of them have more of a friends with benefits situation. but things change. they get closer. allison has a relapse with eating disorders (side note, I have lore about allison's family too. her parents own a company revolving around dieting and are involved in the modelling industry. when allison was young, they would use her eating disorder to test their new diet pills) and surprisingly finds comfort and consolation in kevin, who also has a troubled relationship with food and knows how it is to destroy himself for some sense of perfection. they both team up to convince seth to go on antidepressants and help him quit the addiction. somewhere along the way they fall for each other too

when seth and allison ask kevin to join them on even terms, into a proper three-way relationship, kevin panics a bit, too afraid of being secondary in the relationship to commit. they deal with that too. and then, when they finally feel like they've found their footing, they get a call from jesse — he was contacted by the authorities, because their grandparents died. one of them has to take alice in, the only other option is foster care. and neither of them wants to sentence her to this fate (especially seth. especially knowing what he knows about foster care from andrew's experience)

and here comes one of my favorite tropes! baby acquisition!! jesse lives alone in boston, has a job that requires him to travel and risks his health on a daily basis. he's not the best candidate to take in a 4yo child. seth is not either, but he's not alone. he's got the foxes. it takes a village and all that. and so there's a child thrown right in the middle of their still new relationship

but it's good. scary, but good. alice starts calling allison “mommy” sometimes (allison doesn't mind; she actually wanted to become a mother some day, but due to her complicated relationship with her body, she'd never want to be pregnant. and alice fits into her hands perfectly). alice bullies andrew into buying her lollipops and a temporary chess piece tattoes so that she can look like kevin. she calls wymack grandpa. she holds seth's callous hand in hers, trusting and unafraid. she makes foxes read her bedtime stories. she spends time with jesse whenever he's able to visit

it's strange maybe, and not in the slightest what seth expected. but it's good. it's good

(and maybe, one day, seth, kevin, allison and alice move into a pretty house in boston. right across jesse's house. and they're happy. all of them)

Day 4 – Buddies

Zet – Cry is Zet’s trusty partner since forever and oh boy has this poor cat been through a lot. Cry is a bit of a stickler for the rules and tries to keep situations under control, which is hard when his huntress keeps running headfirst into danger and (accidentally) insulting authority. Still, despite all the migraines he’d gladly lay his life down for his huntress. Way later, on a long journey from the mainland back to the New World, Zet stumbles onto Kamura and meets the veteran Palamute Rev. He’s a jaded old dog whose hunter had died long ago and despite all his skills had refused to be taken in by anyone. Somehow, he and Zet resonated, and despite his better judgment, Rev joined Zet and Cry for their adventure.

Mei – I’d say her buddy is Navirou, I guess? While they do butt heads sometimes, cos Navirou is very overdramatic and Mei just wants to avoid conflict, she really grew close to the weird Felyne. He can be kind of narcissistic, but Mei knows he cares a lot about her and even through danger, he never left her side. He’s also one of the only few individuals that didn’t have expectations of her since Navirou didn’t know her grandfather, so Mei found she’d often cling to Navirou’s point of view.

Chidori – Nyaba and Shibe have been with her since she was a kid, but she hadn’t seen the two for years when she was training at the Guild. But ever since she’s returned to Kamura, the two haven’t left her side. Nyaba is a very calculating Felyne and often gets called a Melynx cos she likes being a trickster. Best support you could ask for though. Shibe is a very chill Palamute since he is a very different breed from most of the dogs Iori takes care of. Not to say he’s useless in a fight. He isn’t the fastest Palamute, but he has insane endurance, like his master, and knows how to hit hard.

Day 5 – Monsters

Zet – Zet doesn’t really have a favourite monster, but she does prefer those that go “head first, thoughts later” as these monsters are very predictable and comparably easy to deal with. As for association, Zet would love to not have a link to this monster, but she sadly has strong ties to Fatalis. She had to face this monster before and almost lost her life in the fight, it was a miracle she managed to survive. After her recovery she had been sent to the New World as the Guild found her too useless (and too dangerous) to keep around, but in the end, she was forced to face the beast once again, but this time hopefully for good. I’d be amiss not to mention Xeno’jiva though, cos, ya know, Sapphire Star and all. I do personally link it and Zet together, even more so if we go with the route that Safi’jiva is the same dragon. I do love a good rivalry between hunter and monster. Also, also, if Zet had a monster-sona, it would be Velkhana.

Mei – Oh, Mei has a fondness for all monsters, really. She loves all her monsties equally, but some of her children just need/want more attention so these are kinda extra special. Of course, you have her lil baby boy Ratha, the monster fate tied to her, and Mei would not give him away for anything. Then she got her problem child Asparagus, a young and overactive Astalos. He’s like a bug dragon puppy that’s just teething, so he gnaws on everything and anyone, but Mei just finds it so adorable she would let him chew on her arm forever. Last but not least are her calm, broody ones, Apple the Anjanath and Legume the Legiana. These two are rather mild mannered but both very cuddly and affectionate. Since they’re the level-headed ones, they, along with Ratha, usually keep the rowdy bunch in check.

Chidori – As Mei is sunshine incarnate, so is Chidori Gargwa incarnate. I took a lot of inspiration from Gargwas when designing her, and her nervous and flighty demeanour also really reminded me of them. As for favourite, she likes the more chill and non-threatening monsters, at least the ones that don’t look threatening. Monsters like Tetranadon, Pukei-Pukei and strangely even Espinas (when it is asleep).

He wanted to catch the culprit but no one answered. Which lead to him, having no choice but wake Soobin up, whilist in the middle of it kicked Yeonjun out.

After Soobin sorted Kai out, there was even more tragic incident then his hair!

Wheel of Time full series spoiler thoughts on EOTW 14-18

A probably semi-regular weekly bonus to my reread blog, since sometimes you realize things on reread that just make you need to yell in a full spoiler space.

Mo's nicknames are abandoned so quickly, along with everything else about this book. I suppose it justifies the Wondergirls, in particular, using false names later, but it feels so tacked on to me after this many reads of EOTW.

Ishy tries way too hard.

"Rand, if we get out of this alive, if we ever get back home, and you hear me say anything about leaving Emond’s Field, even to go as far as Watch Hill, you kick me." Oh, Perrin, hon, you really have no idea how far you'll go.

Min's predictions. All the way to the eye on the balance scale. A few are slightly less clear, sure, but on the whole, top notch. Just vague enough to make you wonder, just clear enough to be recognizable when they happen. The beggar's staff for when he's wandering just before Veins of Gold is a nice touch.

The Pattern guiding Rand through his encounter with the Whitecloaks is fascinating. At least, that's what I'm guessing it is. Part the Pattern, part an early instance of LTT bleeding through, since Rand has now started channeling and RJ intended for the madness to progress pretty quickly until he realized this was no longer going to be only 6 books long…

When Thom glares at Rand and Min while Min tells Rand what she saw about Nyn, I'm pretty sure this is the only time Thom and Min ever meet? Ever even have the chance to meet, really.

Nynaeve's arrival kicks off so so many events and poses so many more questions. Of course she tracked them, but she also still has the healing connection to Egg, at this point.

Cheeky working in of the Heroes of the Horn. I know I probably don't need to point out every little thing that I see as setup for later, but it's part of what makes the reread so much fun, so I'm gonna keep doing it anyway.

Sneaky to use the scar-faced man to cast suspicion about who called the Fade, when Rand was all eagerness to tell Fain last chapter.

I like the idea that it was just some trick of air that let Moiraine appear to do… whatever that was in leaving Baerlon, but I don't think that RJ had his whole magic system worked out yet at this point, or the limits he would soon put on it. So, I have trouble really believing that that's the case.

OK, so, one of my biggest issues with how the fandom treats Mat is that there's so much misinformation about his memories. For one thing, assuming that his war cry was a reincarnation-memory. Not only is this directly contradicted by what Moiraine says, it would be silly. You wouldn't statistically end up in the same place you lived and died before on any kind of short time scale, and even then, Egg wouldn't have felt the same memory tug at her if it was just that Mat was, like, Aemon reincarnated. Second, of course, is the 'Finn memories, which Mat himself says later are from people who went to see the 'Finn in their lives, they're the memories the 'Finn had available to patch his holes with, they are not something buried in his soul's psyche or whatever. Now, the way the show is changing this, I don't have a problem with as long as they're internally consistent about it. But, a lot of people took some really weird ideas away from the books' explanations, perhaps because they can seem so vague and the pieces of the whole picture are so far scattered apart that by the time you find the next puzzle piece, the whole puzzle in your head's been disturbed so you have to start all over with the pieces you can still find in there. Okay, that metaphor got away from me, but I stand by my point, and I might as well get it out there this early.

i finished watching the golden girls tonight and let me tell you... that is not a show to finish watching when you're in the heartache of a friend break-up lmao.

it was good though. i started it in january 2022 because it had been on my radar for a while and in the wake of betty white's passing, it felt like a fitting time to finally start it. i watched the first 5 seasons quite quickly but slowed waaaaaay down with the last two. i can see why it was so loved. i almost wish i'd kept note of the plot-holes to make a post about them though because i noticed soooooo many.

i think rose and dorothy were my favourites. rose was so sweet. i'm clearly too fucking soft to be alive because sometimes when the other girls made jokes at rose's expense, it made me feel like crying lmao.

i was surprised the series ended without saying anything about she and miles' wedding because they were engaged just a few episodes before the finale? i guess that might be because of the sequel show but i was shocked it ended with a wedding that wasn't rose's. i'm glad she was choosing to stay living with blanche and sophia instead of moving in with her daughter though, but it did sort of make me wonder because if she's getting married won't she be perhaps moving in with miles sometime in the near future???

i was happy for dorothy though. the whole series she had such back-and-forth with stan and the other girls joking about her single life so i think she deserved a nice husband!!! the fact it was someone related to one of her best friends was a nice twist (although it did make me wonder how old he is if he's blanche's uncle).

blanche's story concluded the way she'd always been and she's fairly happy with her life so... no complaints there??? i think it would've been fun if sophia had a lil boyfriend though. but i still have to watch the golden palace so i guess we'll see. i'm just glad none of them will be lonely/without each other. the scene of them all crying and hugging goodbye had me so sad though. like pls! you can all visit each other! </3

throughout the series though i had a crazy hard time keeping up with their families. it seemed like they all had absolutely hundreds of siblings and children. rose had like... nine (???) adoptive siblings. and she mentions five children but we only ever meet two of her daughters, kiersten and bridget, and we know of two granddaughters, both kiersten's.

and then blanche is one of five children and i think we meet all of her siblings bar her brother tad in this series. and i was constantly confused by her kids, every time she mentioned one of them it seemed like there was a new drama!!! probably because she was a distant mother who relied on nannies because she had five kids she seemingly wasn't super interested in mothering, but anyway. i know we meet janet and rebecca whom she repairs her relationships with, and then we don't meet matthew "skippy", or doug, or biff. and we know her late husband had a son borne of an affair, david. i like to think blanche keeps in touch with david and maybe introduces him to his half-siblings so they can all have a relationship. it bugged me that he was called david though because, common as the name may be, they could've just made it something different since one of janet's three children is called david and we meet him during the series too.

dorothy was less confusing because she only had one sister and one brother (i was so sad for her and sophia when he died??!) and only had two kids, michael and kate. so as a result, sophia, also less confusing, because she's got three kids with one of them obviously being a main character.

anyway. i find it deeply interesting how the perception of middle-aged women has changed in the decades since this show aired. i always thought these women were meant to be much older than they were (with the exception of sophia, since she's aged 80 in the pilot). like definitely late 60s at the very least (which still isn't really that old now). but they're all early to mid 50s when the show begins. they are by no means 'old' ladies in my eyes. whereas you look at shows nowadays that portray women in their 50s, you generally wouldn't assume they're 50. it's just interesting how the style has changed but also the lens through which we view aging women.

anyway, it was a great show. i'd like to watch the sequel. i feel like it tied up the main plots nicely enough and it made me laugh out loud genuinely several times. it was far more progressive than i expected it to be considering the era and seeing these beautiful women being trailblazers for 'older' women, and for these minority groups and prevalent issues they discussed on the show was a joy.

it feels strange to think they are all now passed, but they've given people such comfort even long after their deaths. <3

Alice Jones

If you haven't noticed already, Alice Jones is my top tier blorbo and before her, I didn't think I would ever fall for a character more than Killian Jones. Turns out his pirate daughter from the Wish Realm was the kicker 😍 Whenever she is involved or appears on screen, I'm a blubbering mess of sounds, sometimes wailing "You can't do this to me! How are you so-? AAAAAH, I can't even!" I can't get enough of her and wish we got more time with her. Seriously, Alice is a treasure trove that I would gladly dissect under a microscope. Of course, she goes through so much angst. Like there's a whole bucket of items, whether through abandonment, isolation, loss of a loved one (can't be in contact with her father, loses Robin w the curse, says goodbye to the Troll) and childhood home, social rejection, economic struggles, betrayal, broken promises, memory loss, mental illness, and a loving but unusual upbringing. I'm sure anyone who goes through any of this would need therapy or owe it to themselves to be allowed to heal. But, I love how she isn't defined by her experiences and is irrevocably true to herself. We see this from how she hates being called "Alice from Wonderland" as it's THE one trip that she's known for (filled with a bag of emotions and experiences she won't linger on) and says goodbye to her past self she bottled up nicknamed "Tower Girl", but remains content as Alice, continuously growing and facing what scares her. She takes it all with an enthusiastic "been there, done that" and rolling with the punches kind of attitude. Alice is so strong that it makes me want her to be allowed happiness! I want to protect her from the writers that keep putting her in angsty situations left and right, but at the same time, it hurts so good and she gets comforted often enough that I'm glad it's filled with angst. In other words, hurt her and you bet I'd get involved, guns blazing!

I got to give it up to Rose's acting because I'm not sure if anyone else could have played this character with as much emotional range, i.e. one moment making you think Alice is not right in the head to smack dab relatable in terms of emotions and basic needs that you just want to cry or be happy with her. I think this is the only character I'd label as "Insane" with tons of sparkles and affection as, from first glance, it's easy to ignore and label her as such *coughs and stares at certain toxic fandom people*. However, she's the most sarcastic, fun loving, wholesome ray of sunshine if you give her a chance and just listen. I'd take the insane bit as she may think, speak, and do things differently from the "norm", but there's more complexity and humanity than meets the eye.

Lastly, I want to address the "Mommy Issues". No way, no how is Gothel mother material and she made up a bunch of excuses and threats when it came to claiming mothership (ewww). However, I died at the thought of Tilly/Alice expressing her frustration of being abandoned by her mother, going up to Rogers (a friend/roommate that feels like a dad) and asking him the what ifs, and ultimately wanting "a mum to tuck me into bed" type. I sob at the thought of how she's grown, managed to survive in the world without a mom that everyone typically has as a nurturer and role model, yet still has the want of every child to be loved and cared for by parents known or unknown. Alice deserves the world and I'm so glad she gets that from everyone else that sees her beautiful soul. I think the rest of the bingo requires no explanation as there's nothing like a blorbo in making you want to see them get hurt and then protected, loved, and embraced like they deserve. Overall, she's a pwecious widdle bubububububbb that has two protective dads, a badass and modern day wifey, a laugh until your stomach hurts mum in-law, and I'm pretty sure everyone wants to adopt and support her.

Robin Mills

Robin Mills, a rebellious and competitive teenager who grows into a courageous and adventurous soft bean and archer who wants to find her place and identity in the world, even if she has to stumble as a mean girl or in her dad's footsteps as Robin Hood before she embraces herself. I put her down in both "Daddy and Mommy Issues" bc I think Robin was so often in the shadows of both her parents, less from themselves but rather Zelena being super protective (understandable since villains kept popping up s1-6 in Storybrooke) and what the close minded people and children of Storybrooke believe happened and will. I think she self imposed upon herself of who she should be since in Storybrooke, "everyone knows everyone" and she didn't want to be seen as weak or be bullied.

Might be diving into some meta or angsty headcanon here, but I wouldn't be surprised if Robin was bullied for not having a dad, living in a farmhouse/cabin on the outskirts of town, or having a mum that used to be a wicked villain but clearly isn't anything without magic, because children can be crass or cruel sometimes, especially when most of them grew up from fairytale heroes and villagers. I think it was easier for Robin to hide behind walls and snarkiness, so that no one could get close enough to understand her. She didn't even know herself, but she tried to the moment what worked for her parents didn't exactly work the same for her. I think there were so many avenues and things Once Upon A Time didn't get to explore with her that would make it easy to say a ten hour speech, hence the half circle and why are they like this? However, if we are talking headcanons and creating details from the small pieces we got, I'm ready to join the discussion. :D

Honestly, Robin needs therapy too from the internal struggles and anxiety she must have had from always wearing a mask and fighting against everything because she didn't know what else she'd have to protect herself from. Heck, if anyone were in her shoes, it's understandable why Robin would run away from her problems and make impulsive decisions (diving headfirst into becoming Gothel's pupil, Robin Hood (female version), staying in NEF or Thailand) rather than face the problems and ultimately, herself. That requires a lot of courage and acceptance that it's okay to not know the answers, break down and cry, and being open to trusting others for support.

In any case, I will fall into the line of defense should anyone come close to hurting them, Robin probably retaliating that she can take care of herself even when it's clear that she's cut up and bruised, barely able to draw the tension needed to release her arrow. 👀Would she make a good whumpee? Add that to the box of I torture them bc I love them. Oof, she would probably hide her embarrassment from being loved or cared for by pretending she hates it or doesn't care for it. Even if I was her friend, I could imagine hugging her and her reaction being a punch out of muscle memory or the cute kind of shoulder/back punch like how dare you?! (affectionate). Overall, Robin is a precious archer who deserves happiness, has a flirty and too nice for her own good wife, a well minding yet embarrassingly silly mom, a doteful father in-law, and a charming cousin with too many extended family members to count.

Module 8 Wolf Children/ I went a little bit long with this one

I have never seen this movie before, I have only ever heard of it and seen some still photos of the movie. I did have an interest in it and thought that I should watch it someday, I just did not think that it would be due to a class I was taking. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with this film and thought it was great. A message I got was that everyone has their own struggles and are trying their best to just live their lives. Sometimes people will not understand you and will discriminate against you because of whatever reason they are willing to come up with. Hana deals with this in a way everyone else can not even imagine, but always does everything in her power to help Yuki and Ame no matter what. There was a lot to this film and there is no way I can cover everything so I will talk about what I remember the most about my time watching Wolf Children.

Anyway, the story starts out with our main character Hana attending her college class and notices a guy in her class that seemed different than the rest of her classmates. It turns out that he was not a student and that is how they first meet. As time passes they fall in love and eventually he has to tell her the truth that he is part wolf as well as human. This does not matter to Hana and they continue their relationship for a few years in which they have two children Yuki and Ame, but unfortunately he dies a little after their second child was born and this leaves Hana alone in raising two children that are half-human and half-wolf. The rest of this movie is about Hana trying her best to raise two children while dealing with the fact that she has to keep their secret from anyone because the consequences would be unknown to her. Discrimination is one of the key points in this movie both in the foreground and the background. The main discrimination would be the fact that they are part wolf and that is something they must keep hidden and deal with the effects of it. First, who knows what would happen if they were found out just randomly. Would the children be taken away or what would happen is a mystery that Hana does not want to know the answer to, so this is a constant worry when they are still young on top of the fact she is learning and dealing with the fact that she is a single parent. An example of this when one of the kids gets sick and she is trying to determine whether she should take them to a pediatrics or a vet. This shows one of the problems she has to deal with because she must keep the secret that they share. They also have to deal with neighbors who are complaining about noise at night, a landlady who reminds her that pets are not allowed, and an agency that is pressuring her about the welfare of the kids because they are not in the system. All of these are due to the fact that they are part wolf, well maybe not the noise complaint because babies and young children to tend to cry whenever they feel like it.

Further on in the movie they move to the countryside mainly because they did not want to have some many people's eyes on them. The older sister Yuki eventually goes to elementary school and makes friends with other children. Another part of the difficulties they are living with are shown when the kids in class all bring in something to show each other. Her friends bring in their mother's jewelry or other trinkets while she brings in bones of animals she has hunted. After this she decides that she will be more girly in order to fit it. This is not something that is only due to her situation, many people hide or change parts of themselves to fit in because they want to be included. This discrimination is something everyone can relate to and everyone has experienced during their lives, this is why this moment feels so real because we have all been in Yuki's shoes in hiding something we enjoy just to fit in with the group. Throughout the movie Hana was happy and never giving up so Yuki and Ame could choose what they want in the future, whether that is to live as a human or live as a wolf. At the end of the movie, Yuki has decided to live as a human in society while Ame has chosen the opposite path and live as a wolf in the mountains around their home. Hana has to accept his decision, and only accepts after she falls unconscious in the forest going after Ame because of the storm that is overhead, during this time she talks with their father and tells her that he is a grownup. Yuki on the other hand decided to trust her classmate Souhei with her secret and after she shows him he tells her that she will keep her secret. This shows that some people are willing to accept you even if you are different, whether that is because of this situation where you are half wolf or because of any number of differences.

Anyway, those were my thoughts about the film and like I said I have thought about watching this and I am glad I could finally watch it because I think that this was a great movie.

Jasper was in the middle of a lecture when a falcon palisman flew into the room, making an awful ruckus.

Several students gasped, a few even screamed.

Jasper turned around to shout at which ever student had the audacity to let their palisman loose in class, but he froze when he saw that the falcon was his father’s palisman Edgar. His heart sunk into his stomach. His family knew how important his position at the University was to him. There was no way his father would send Edgar to bother him in the middle of the day unless it was urgent.

“Professor Bloodwilliams?” A student asked. “Whose palisman is that?”

“Class is dismissed for the day.” Jasper announced.

The students looked at each other confused.

“But, it’s only one o’clock.” One girl said, “I thought we had a lab test today?”

“Here’s some advice, Rowan: when your professor lets you out of a lab test and dismisses you early, take it as a win.” Jasper snapped. “I want your papers about the discovery of abomination magic on my desk by Scryday.”

He grabbed his jacket and Rigby’s staff. He was out the door before any of his students could even process what was going on. Becks met him at his office. Jasper’s mother’s palisman Crowley was with them. Jasper’s anxiety only worsened. Why would both of his parents send their palismen out? What was so urgent that he and Becks had to be alerted simultaneously?The couple didn’t waste time discussing it. Without saying a word to each other, they set off to the Clawthorne’s house. They flew fast, but close, close enough for Becks to reach out and give Jasper’s hand a reassuring squeeze.

Had something happened to one of his parents? Or one of his sisters? Or even worse, had something happened to his little niece? She was half human after all, and apparently human babies often didn’t survive their first year. No one quite knew why, but according to Caleb sometimes human babies would just die in their cribs. Sometimes there would be signs of sickness beforehand, sometimes the infant would just stop breathing without warning. Jasper tried to banish thoughts of Evelyn going to pick up her daughter only to find the child cold and still in her crib.

Edgar and Crowley led Jasper and Becks straight to the Clawthorne family house. Jasper’s father sat outside, as if waiting for his son. Jasper had never seen his father look like that. His back was stooped, his elbows were on his knees, his head was in his hands. He looked old and exhausted.

“Dad!” Jasper shouted as he landed.

His father looked up at him with tired, red eyes. He had been crying. Jasper couldn’t remember the last time he had seen his father cry. The fear in his heart tripled.

“Jasper, Becks…”

“What happened?” Jasper demanded, convinced now that something terrible had occurred. His father stood up to meet him, putting a hand on his shoulder.

“I need you to stay calm for me, son. Your sisters need you to stay calm.”

“What is going on?”

“Caleb is dead.”

For a moment it felt like the ground fell out from underneath him. Jasper heard the words, but he didn’t quite understand.

“What?”

“Caleb is gone, son. He died a few hours ago.”

“No.” It was Becks who spoke. “No, that can’t be. We just saw him a few days ago, he was fine. If he was ill he would have told us. Surely, he would have told us.”

“He wasn’t ill.” Jasper’s father said, his eyes heavy with grief. “He was murdered. Your mother and I found Evelyn clinging to his body a little bit away from the Roost. She wasn’t hurt, but he…he was gone by the time we got there.”

“Philip did this didn’t he?” demanded Jasper. “Didn’t he?”

“Jasper, please...”

“I’M GOING TO KILL HIM!” Jasper shouted, pushing past his father and barging into the house. “I’M GOING TO HUNT HIM DOWN AND KILL HIM!”
