Post Re:mind/Pre-Limit Cut fic where Riku and Kairi talk at the Paupou tree.

I haven’t written a lot yet (and what I do have written I’m not super confident about the characterization in) so I’ll just explain it instead.

Basically Kairi has been back for a bit but Riku has kinda been avoiding her.

Kairi thinks it’s because Riku blames her for Sora’s disappearance (mostly projection because she blames herself), but really Riku just doesn’t know how to talk to her anymore (at least not without Sora to bridge the gap) and he still feels bad about stuff he did pre-KH1/KH1 (specifically putting her in the middle of his insecurity driven competition with Sora and, you know, the whole killing her with the fall of Destiny Islands lol). He figures that she wouldn’t really want to talk to him because of that.

One day, Riku’s leaning against the Paupou tree and Kairi sees him there. She joins him at the tree, muttering a quick greeting before sitting on it, just like old times. Except it’s not, not without Sora.

They kinda just exist in each other’s presence for a bit until Kairi cracks, and starts apologizing, and spouting if onlys. Riku’s a bit taken aback, and tries to counter her points and make it clear that he doesn’t blame her. That it’s not her fault.

He explains that Sora’s heart and mind was made up, and Kairi quips something along the lines of “there really was nothing we could do then”, with a bit of a halfhearted laugh. Riku nods his head and they sit with that.

After a moment Riku kinda pipes up again and says that he should really be the one apologizing. Kairi begins to say that Sora being missing isn’t his fault either but Riku cuts her off and clarifies that it’s not about that —he believes in Sora (but he wishes he didn’t have to. He’s wishes he was here and safe). He apologizes for all the stuff he did pre-KH1 and in KH1.

Kairi accepts his apology. Yeah, he was kinda a jerk back then, but he’s changed, and for the better this time.

They fall back to silence. It’s awkward and Sora’s absence is still heavy. They still have work to do to properly rebuild their friendship, but at least for now, for this, they know they have each other.

What does Sora know, or what is he aware of? Has been a question on my mind since taking a closer look at the Round Room scene in Dream Drop Distance. Is it possible that he knows more than we think? I've been toying with this idea in my mind for a long while. It sparked when I noticed something in the scene's animation. In further away shots in the second half of the scene (such as just before Xehanort makes his attempt to make Sora his vessel) we see Sora's eyes wide open. Where as any close up shots, that we get in the beginning, Sora's eyes are mostly shut. So what happen in between? Was all the commotion, enough to make him semi-aware? That's the answer, if I am honest, I sort of wanted. I mean think of the angst potential? (I'm a fan-fic writer okay?) But, I am the type of person to look at all possible options first, and see what is the most plausible answer, and even look at real-world explanations. The real world explanation, is limited animation. While I don't know if this exactly what they would term what they are doing, it is what I personally call it. It is something that is done in all main-line KH games up to KH3. Where unless it is needed to convey what they wish, or it is a close up shot, sometimes they will limit what they animate or draw. In the case in question, those far away shots could be that limited animation. They do go as far as make the iris of Sora's eyes dark and undefined, in order to match what Sora's eyes are at this time. They are like black-blue dots.

So this big, big question might all be chalked up to a shortcut made by the developers. *sigh* If though, this isn't the case, and there isn't another explanation, then what might that be? Well of course there is the obvious one, and I've already mentioned it. The best evidence to back this idea up comes from BbS. When Ven first arrives at the Land of Departure, his eyes are the same unfocused, endless blue orbs. Yet he shows some sort of very limited awareness, though he gets overwhelmed very quickly. Then later when he finally wakes up, his eyes are still the same.

So these eyes don't necessarily mean unawareness. However, when looking at Sora's case, the text does explicitly say that Sora is asleep. This is what pulled me to the most plausible answer (save the real-world one, which no one really wants) in my mind. If there is someone watching, perhaps it is Ven, Roxas and Xion. When Riku goes to wake Sora up, he has to answer three questions, all posed by these three. And before that, Ven showed some sort of awareness, by protecting Sora with his armor. We see a heart hover over Sora right after he drops to the deepest darkness. Considering the armor appears after, it could be presumed to be Ven. So in a way, those three were Sora's guardians, even if they couldn't do all that much. If this is the case, then that smile at the end of the game by Ven could have a deeper meaning, as not only is it about the Dream Eaters, but also that everything is now as it should be. Still, I'll always wonder. What does Sora truly know? Eyes don't lie, ya know. Do you think I am barking up the right tree, or do you have thoughts to add? Feel free to reblog and tell me!

I've re-read TDE multiple times already and I find some new aspects of the story every time. I especially love how complex Feyd is. He has very cold exterior, but actually is very caring for the ones who deserve his devotion. This caring side of him is also very meticulous and detailed. Like the fact that he remembers the page number that reader has been reading or when he notices that Reader is upset or ill, when he sees that reader has never killed before. He actually is very attentive to other people's emotions, not in the aspect of empathy but in understanding. There is also a lot of honor in his actions. Yeah it is dark and ruthless but it is still honorable. When he deals with Zeev, when he protects the boys from the Baron, when he has regular meeting with common people, when he gives Reader an opportunity to exert her power as na-baroness, when he makes sure she understands that she is magnificient. He doesn't want a weak wife but still will do everything in his power to protect and defend her. I think he respects her because he sees the same honor in her. Let's just say he takes his wedding vows very seriously. Oh and the fact that he is calling her "my jewel"...s o b b i n g. Honestly the wedding ceremony was the most beautiful in a Harkonnen way. The salute is everything.

All of this is exactly why I can reciprocate readers feelings of heartache because of him, I hate that he has been hurt, a lot. It's kind of helplessness because there is no undo button, but I am here for their revenge.

The angst after the fall of the Atreides is unbearable. My heart aches for the Reader but at the same time for Feyd... You can feel the pain both mental and physical for both of them. It's kinda sick and twisted but in a natural for them way.

I love the banter between them as well, it's subtle but delicious, like the moment in the tub when he proves that he doesn't wrinkle.

I actually adore all of the details that you put in about the Harkonnens bodies, that they clot easily, don't wrinkle, black cum ...all of it is so fitting. I just love your Feyd 🥲

All of the above is just how I see Feyd's character and I may have made up a lot of things which you hadn't intended to, I am sorry for that.

Omg no, I think you nailed everything about him so perfectly. He is such a complex character to me and I’m glad that multiple facets of his personality have stood out to you because I take very serious care of his character🥲

I think, yes, he’s callous and perhaps a lot bloodthirsty but he’s also been raised to be a leader and attentive to other people. Obviously in the books the Baron plans to put him as the ruler of Arrakis because he’s much more diplomatic than Rabban and I wanted to express that in this fic. He’s a monster but he’s also cunning and perceptive and intelligent and (sometimes) charismatic. And he would never actually say it (I don’t think he even completely understands how he feels) but he just really loves his wife🤧

His whole life everyone has expected him to be a certain way or a certain thing — a weapon, the father to the KH, a political pawn, but reader just sees him as he is. She doesn’t want to change him and she doesn’t ask him to be someone that he’s not. And that’s very freeing to him.

💓: is it part of a series or standalone?

Standalone! I don't do series very often, haha; in this case, while there's probably room for a series, I kind of wanted to keep things contained to a single story. So...hopefully it'll remain that way, haha!

💙: how has the idea changed between starting it and where it is now?

Oh, man. It's changed a lot from the original plans I had for it. Like--the very, very first iteration was back before Missing-Link was announced, and this was supposed to be a short, Brain-centric fic about learning how to live with his grief in a very different time and place. The first idea that could truly be considered proto-Fallen Stars was also supposed to be relatively short, despite the sound of the premise--basically, the plan was that it would follow Brain and Skuld's entire life in Scala ad Caelum (kind of following the idea that like...your trauma sticks with you, sometimes, and you may not always heal completely, but you can still be happy), with more...snapshots of what happened to them, rather than the monster it ended up growing into, haha. That got shelved for a little while because I started writing the first chapter and realized, "Oh, no...there's plot here." And then I made that Tumblr post and it got revived, aha.

As for how it's changed since I actually, officially started on current-Fallen Stars...uh. Well, it was supposed to be a lot shorter. I think my original outline had it in the mid-twenties, chapter-wise? That didn't pan out, obviously, haha. Other than that, the big points have remained basically the same (I've done too much foreshadowing, man, I need those to pay off), but the details have occasionally changed. For example, originally I wasn't going to reveal that Luxu was the narrator until the very end (with basically just a throw-away "As if" in the narration, haha), but it got moved up for...plot reasons that may become more apparent in the coming chapters.

KH folktale: 💟: how is your style different in this work?

This is a much less traditional story than most of my stuff, haha, so it ends up being quite a bit different! Normally, I have very character-driven based narratives that's primarily written in prose. This is...you know those literature textbooks that have compilations of stories, but also introductions to and backgrounds for them? This is like that, but the introductions/backgrounds are also telling the story of the narrator...basically trying to track down and put together all of these stories, which were kind of lost to time, since the Keyblade wielders kind of, uh...don't exist anymore in this time period. (This takes place far into the future, aha.)

The stories themselves all come from different eras, so I want to all feel very distinct. That means they'll probably all have pretty unique styles for how they're written; Daybreak Town (and pre-Daybreak Town) era-stuff will be pretty similar to some of the folktales/legends/etc. I've done for Dandelion Seeds, and the very early Scala days I know is very song-based, but I'm still working out styles for the others. So, uh...it's going to be a lot different from what I usually do, but also a fun challenge!

KHOC Week Day 4 5 : Alternative Universes

Today is a day that is a little scary to me, since I want to share some of my writing for the first time !

I'm constantly writing about KH, and my current obsession has been to imagine an highschool AU with the KH kids. I know, taking away the magic isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I was inspired !

The main characters of this fic would be Xail and Vanitas, who would meet... In a closet. Thus, I eloquently call it "The closet AU"

The first paragraphs are under the cut ! It's not too long, less than 1000 words.

Sometimes, Xail was able to function with very little sleep. Her insomnias were tough, and she was used to short nights. 

But today wasn't one of these days.

She fought to stay awake for the whole hour before lunch, too focused on keeping her eyes open to listen to the teacher. 

And she knew for a fact it wouldn't do any good long term.

So she grabbed a sandwich at the cafeteria and decided to find a hiding spot to sleep during the break. If she could only get one hour, it would probably get her back on track, at least for the rest of the day.

She had noticed one of the stairs had a space below it, and though it was closed by a door, it was worth trying. Thankfully the corridor around was empty, probably because everyone was eating.

But no one waited for Xail during breaks anyway.

Pushing the door, she realized it was unlocked. If that wasn't a sign that it was the perfect spot, she didn't know what would be !

She entered, closed the door and enjoyed the dark for a minute. 

Just a minute, because before she knew it, she was fast and sound asleep.

It really was the perfect spot.

Vanitas Hated people, with a capital H. If school had taught him one thing, it was that everyone had their own way of being insufferable. He'd rather spend his whole time alone, even though he didn't particularly find his own company pleasant either.

But everything was better than a conversation with people who forced smiles to conceal how much they thought he was a freak.

Thus, like a freak, he hid in a hole.

Well, not a real hole. More like an abandoned closet. 

The thing was out of use and sealed off, but nothing that his studded boots hadn't been able to open.

And as long as he was careful to close after he left, no one would know better.

That was what he thought.

But two days ago, he found his closet open. It was empty, so he thought nothing of it. Well, that wasn't true ; he did think something, and it was : "fucking wind".

Today, though, he opened the door, and someone was there.

" - What the hell ?! "

It got out before he could think of anything else.

There was a girl. In his hiding spot.

And she was sleeping.

Well, she had been.

" - Dude, " she just said, hiding her eyes from the light.

Vanitas felt inexplicable shame, realizing someone found this closet. And he hated that.

" - Get the fuck out ! " He grunted, teeth gritted. " That's my spot ! "

The girl sighed.

" - Yeah, well that was also mine.

  - Since when ?? "

He had spent all his breaks there since the year before, so obviously this girl was a liar.

" - Since last week, actually. "

...But he hadn't been in school last week.

Of course. Of fucking course the week where he wasn't here, someone discovered his spot.

Somewhere deep down, he knew his anger was unexplained, and that it was silly to get worked up for a closet.

But it had been his private hidden spot for a year now.

Who was this girl to claim it as her own ? 

" - Look, I've been spending my time here since a whole fucking year now, and it's only for one reason : being alone. So if you don't get out of here, I'll make you. "

She looked pretty unimpressed, which was infuriating. Half the school was scared of him. Why would this newbie be so indifferent ? 

" - Ok, " she started, " I don't know why you hide here, but I slept like 4 hours in two nights, and I'm hanging on by a very thin thread right now. I'm not even sure I could walk away if I wanted to. You can do whatever you want, I'm about to pass out anyway, so please, close the goddamn door. "

At this moment, he could have grabbed her and threatened her. He meant it when he said he could've made her leave ; he fought bigger people than her, and she didn't even look that heavy.

But something in the fact that her bravery was only sleep deprivation had maybe, just a tad, made this girl's presence more bearable. And it was maybe, just possibly, because it made him think about himself.

He closed the door, furious that he was listening to her.

" - You rock, " she declared, and he heard her turn over. 

He would sulk for way longer than he'd ever want to admit, conflicted about the fact that it was nice to hear.

That's it for now ! I just wanted to show their personality and the context, but it's still a draft. And since I drew a little something for this AU just yesterday, I decided to add it as well :

...Where Xail ends up by buying Vanitas' friendship with chocolate !

523,858 words! Granted over half of that is just my slow burn story so lol

Primarily I've written for My Hero Academia (40 out of the total 55). But I've also written for Kingdom Hearts, The World Ends With You, and more recently Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom.

I'm...genuinely shocked one of my LoZ fics is up there??? And so high??? 1, 3, 4, and 5 are all from my hero fanfics which is not surprising and most of them are super old. Number 2 I only posted in June and it was my first fic for LoZ so that's...interesting to say the least.

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I try to! The last year or so I've had a hard time working up the energy or finding the words to respond to comments, sometimes. But whenever I do gather up the energy to do it, I tend to answer everything in my inbox in one fell swoop! And I always really appreciate getting them so tbh sometimes I feel bad that it can take so much energy to reply....

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Oh gosh idk if I have anything that qualifies as an angsty ending lol. Maybe Tarantism (a KH fic) because it's supposed to be feelsy and then the ending is one of those "it's just a dream" things haha.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Happiest...probably A Family's Orbit? The story has married izuocha with their first kid who they're not sure when or if she'll have a Quirk of her own. But the one-shot ends pretty happy.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Hmmmm I've gotten a handful of complaints on Drops of Jupiter, on occasion. Usually just people telling me I'm going too slow (when I put in the author's notes of the very first chapter that it's "the slowest of slow burns" smh). Or this one time someone told me I didn't give Deku enough victories in the fic and it would be way better if I did.

Outside of that though, I can't think of any on my other stuff. I've been blessed with very kind commentors, I think.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I've written a couple for Izuocha. But yknow usually, in all honesty, I've only ever written smut out of spite? The two fics I have (Burning Heat and Homecoming) were written in opposition to fandom tendencies at the time. Mostly everyone was talking about Izuku like someone who was a sex addict/sex god and Ochako was just kind of there. And I said "actually I think Deku's on the ace spectrum and probably mostly just cares about pleasing his partner than anything" and thus they were born. I haven't reread them in ages though that said lol

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

Generally, no. However, about a year or so ago I got really into twewy again because I had just finished playing NEO:The World Ends With You. So I came up with a concept that kind of meshes twewy's concept with the my hero world? I only have one chapter posted of Death By Proxy so far, but I have an outline and little details written down whenever I'm in the right headspace for it. For what it's worth, you don't really need to know about twewy to read it, because Izuku finds out how everything works at the same time you do lol

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not to my knowledge. Here's hoping it stays that way lol

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Not that I know of? I've never been asked about it anyway.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Not explicitly? I feel like I help out my friends with their stories and vice versa, but not really.

Although once upon a time me and a friend (you know who you are) wrote a KH fanfic together but I guess that was moreso just for us than anything else lol

14. What's your all-time favourite ship?

Probably Izuocha, just going by the numbers.

15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

Hmmm probably Eri-sitting? I really want to finish it at some point, and I posted the first part with every intention of doing it. But I never figured out the way I wanted to start chapter 2. Maybe someday though. Also!!! I did start writing a fanfic based off of heroes of the dark, but I didn't end up finishing it because it contrasted how the story ended and I thought completing that would be in poor taste with that said lol

16. What are your writing strengths?

Hmmm I've always found dialogue and characterization comes easier to me than I think it does to most others? There's always been discussions I've seen where people are like "oh sometimes the characters just do what they want" and I've never really...had that happen? Or at least not in a way that completely alters a story like I've seen people say. Little actions or pieces of dialogue that take me by surprise, sure, but like never anything that completely alters a plot beat I had planned. But usually at least for me, the plot beats are so centered around who they are or how they act that the odds of them veering off course are incredibly slim, if that makes sense

God I'm rambling uh dialogue and characterization I guess was my point haha.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Probably description is the thing I have the hardest time with. Some people are so good at writing a setting and making everything seem so like immersive in that way. For me, I don't see the point in describing something unless it's like relevant and so my description tends to be very to the point.

Also estimating a story's length. Usually I come up with a concept and then I'll say "oh yeah this'll only be this long" and then I start writing and writing and realize I had a lot more to say than I thought I did initially. This has happened a handful of times now haha

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic.

I definitely don't see anything wrong with it. I usually only do it for small phrases, myself, but partially because I'm not fluent in anything except for English. And I generally try to do some research or I'll check with friends if I have any who speak the language I'm using.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Kingdom Hearts! Back in the days of yore, yours truly actually wrote KH retellings with OCs back on quizilla lmao. I wrote quite a lot back then although with how long it's been most of the things I posted on there don't exist anymore. But that was back during 8th grade when I started.

20. Favourite fic you've ever written?

Oh hmm I don't know. I feel like favorites is tough because I like a lot of my stories but for different reasons. I'm exceedingly proud of Drops of Jupiter for example. And I think it's been a true adventure to write and does have some of my best work in it as a result.

But I also think some of the prose and concepts I've made for Call From the Wild has a special place in my heart. It's very different from...basically anything else I've ever written because most ever other fic is "modern" in a manner of speaking and this was my first time writing something that's...decidedly not lol. I also think I'm fond of it because it's adhering to canon while allowing me the creativity to come up with how certain things happened since the details before the Calamity in botw are pretty limited...

Basically I guess my favorite kind of fic I've written is anything that really allows me to go nuts creatively.

Damn. That a lotta word. Wild to think a third of those words are from a single fic huh

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Bit of a lot of things. Hunter x Hunter and Daiya no Ace are my big ones, but I've also written for Kingdom Hearts, Haikyuu, Black Clover, Project Sekai and....... Homestuck.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

"A Very Hisoka Wedding" stands head and shoulders above anything else at 1,143 kudos, which is legit insane. This fic isn't close to being my best. It isn't close to being my most innovative. It isn't even the longest! And yet it has more Hits, Kudos and Bookmarks than anything else I've ever written. Wild. Following that, we have "(Country Roads, Take Me)Home for the Holidays" at 365, my actual magnum opus so far, "Kiss Me Once, Kiss Me Twice" at 321, a short Black Clover ficlet that somehow keeps getting love, "Weekend at Leorio's" at 295 and "Pink Love" at 256.

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I used not to respond to comments, but in the past couple of years I've been trying to respond to every comment I get. I like getting responses to my comments when I post on other fics, so I also want people to get that happiness. Besides, it's only polite!

6. What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

...what is angst, signed, a permanently happy ending girlie.

Anyway it's probably "Quadratum Has Pocky", a KH drabble I wrote for Pocky Day which did not leave me with a lot of space for happy endings.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Literally all of them LMAO

But I guess "Red Eyes, Take Warning", my HxHBB fic this year gets special mention by giving Kurapika, the fandom's tragic boy, a happily-ever-after.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Sometimes. Home for the Holidays got a couple of comments once we got to the spicy part about how I should have tagged which character topped. That was wild. I'm talking like, HUGE paragraphs.

But not usually, no.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I did once! It was the vanillaest M/M ever written, but I sure did write it!

I do really like inter-sports-anime crossovers. I once wrote a Haikyuu x Daiya no Ace ficlet that was quite fun!

My Hunter x Hunter Praxis AU.

Huge AU, spanning five years, each of which focusing on a different set of characters, with highly specific references to a highly specific university culture from my country that like two people reading would understand. It's also technically a Reincarnation AU.

Yeah I'm never getting that written.

15. What are your writing strengths?

Apparently, characterization and making my character actions and plots seem believable in the context of canon. Which is good, because I really do strive for character voice matching the original, so I'm happy with this assessment by my readers LMAO

16. What are your writing weaknesses?

DESCRIBING ACTION.

If I ever have to write an action scene, I just don't. There is no combat in my fics, not because I dislike it, but because I can't write it lol.

17. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

Have done it. Will continue doing it when I find it appropriate. Helps when the POV character also isn't supposed to understand the language, because then you're just on the same page :D

18. First fandom you wrote for?

Digimon Adventure my beloved <3

(the fics themselves are also beloved, because although they're bad, I can see where I came from and how that shaped me into the writer I am today. My bad fics are a part of me and my journey just as much as my 100k word epics are.)

Pausing + looking off into the distance.

You do realize this is an impossible question?

All the fics for me are... connections, within myself and with the people around me. Writing each one was a battle of finding the right words within me, the joy of sharing little snippets with friends, asking for help and bouncing off ideas. Listening to music and building the plot in my head as I walk, thinking about it as I fall asleep. Pouring my longing, my affection, my grief, and my hopes into these words, trying to connect with whoever will read them.

So I guess I'll say it's "All The Things He Said". It's the first fic I wrote for Daiya no Ace, a fandom I knew no one in. And I needed a beta. Trying to find that beta actually led me to finding one of my best friends, so I'm very thankful to this fic.

OKAY I HAVE TO APPROACH ON MAIN THIS TIME

i got to read a couple of your writings after the past few days of work and i just ??? Holy crap, what a stroke of genius to take the replica concept with Roxas. im always enamored by the reality that KH has set up, with the rules behind hearts and bodies and souls. like a heart being able to shatter. having a replica start to break down? im gonna sound like an insane person, but there's just something there that's intriguing.

the manga for chain of memories and 358 tried to tackle that kind of thing, but it never went too far past some creepy visuals. but having it written out, something like losing your sight, the sensation of touch. it's terrifying, and it's so fitting for Roxas. it would be horrifying for him, familiar in a sense to when he gave up his life to Sora in kh2 and was forced into non-existence.

IM BAD AT WRITING LIKE THIS, but I wanted to come and sing some praises bc it's just so interesting as a premise. i am going to continue reading everything, but i wanted to drop this comment before i forgot :3

AHH hi again!! im so happy to hear you enjoyed some of my drabbles, thank you so much for stopping by! oooh, eheh, this is a headcanon i haven't talked about too much but have written about a few times!! iii should really post my other stuff to AO3, i have a few older fics that kinda touch on this headcanon... hmm... I've always had a headcanon that since Roxas was brought back into a Replica body in KH3, he sometimes has dissociative episodes and more literal moments of disconnect from his Replica body! I think it can both be terrifying for him and kinda just... "a thing that happens". I have a lotta headcanons about Roxas, Xion, and Ventus, and the effect being a part of Sora has on them. For Xion and Ventus, I kinda imagine they have a lotta issues with their identity (Xion being scared of losing herself again and not wanting to be compared to Sora, while Ventus has to deal with this odd attachment/desire to be more like Sora) while Roxas is more confident in who he is, but has a lot of frustration realizing that other people don't see him as "Roxas", and see him more as just "Sora's Other". Along with that, I like to think all of them are susceptible to feeling "disconnected" from their own bodies, with Roxas in particular having problems adjusting to his Replica body. (Xion's fear is losing herself to "Sora", Ventus' fear is that he misses being "Sora", and Roxas' fear is being seen as a shadow of "Sora". And they all have a hard time being used to just being themselves again, both mental hurdles and physical ones. ) I don't really see the Replica bodies as robotic, buuuut I kinda feel like they wouldn't be 100% human, either. I don't mean in the cyborg sense, juuuust that maybe they'd malfunction sometimes! Especially if the Heart inside (Roxas) wasn't originally a Replica (unlike Xion, who was literally made to inhabit a Replica). Though, I guess every human body can "malfunction". But Replica hiccups are more Heart-magic related, or somethin, like the Heart has trouble connecting to a new body. I just like messing around with that idea, aaand I'm really excited to share my thoughts about this eheh. I don't know if it would make too much sense in canon, but! I think it's fun to think that people who's Hearts have been "disconnected" from their physical bodies at some point might have some issues just... being a person again! Xion, Ven, and Roxas know this best, of course. So they're always looking out for each other. Xion's a lot calmer/more understanding when it comes to Roxas' Replica hiccups, while Ventus is a huge worrywart and is usually in charge of going to get help when Rox wants it. Oh man, I can imagine Ventus doing a lotta research into Keyblade Transformations so he can convert his glider into a wheelchair of sorts if Roxas ever needs it.... though on this note! i didn't know the KH manga touched on this sorta stuff!! if you or anyone has the pages as examples, feel free to tag me in them, if ya want! either way, thanks for chatting to me about this and giving me an excuse to ramble, eheh. 💚

1. do you & your f/o decorate your house? if you have an idea of what it looks like, show us!

Okay so!!! I'm gonna answer this one for K.yohei, my beloved husband!

(I am going to climb him like a tree and kiss him all over.)

Honestly? K.yohei isn't super huge on decorating. His friends go absolutely nuts over it though, so he loves watching their madness! Ash isn't too wild about decorating either. It's just another day, right? May as well hang up some fake webs and call it a day!

But being around the influence of K.yohei's wild ass (affectionate) friends and having their own place means that they're more open to the thought! They hang up some lights and decorations (note that all the hanging is K.yohei since he is significantly taller than Ash is)!

Ash's favorite thing to do is bake spooky-themed treats! Although my G.intama S/I is a professional baker, many of my S/Is share a love for baking.

But also! Ash suggests carving pumpkins together. I've never done it before, and neither has he.

(The real reason why Ash brought it up is so she could watch his arms flex as he works. He's surprisingly buff under the jacket!)

Overall, this couple doesn't go too wild over Halloween, but doing small bits of decorating is a really fun way to spend time with each other. And there is absolutely nothing I love more than spending time with him.

2. is your f/o from a horror movie/game/series? if not, would you make an AU where they were (like a vampire AU or something similar)?

I'm gonna answer this for my wife! KH is indeed nightmare fuel sometimes, but I wouldn't call it horror!

However, there's a lot of art out there about A.qua as a vampire and it happens to make me extremely flustered. It's almost embarrassing how much the thought makes me blush!

So I do have an AU where A.qua is vampire and Ash is a human (a vampire hunter as well) and... uh... They fight. A lot. Mouth-to-mouth combat.

I also have another AU written where the roles are reversed and Ash is a vampire! I love Vampire Ash since she's just so goofy. One of my favorite moments from a fic I have written about it is where Ash asks for A.qua's name while sipping blood from a wine glass. A.qua says her name and Ash gets all confused and looks at her glass of blood.

"A.qua? No, you silly goose! This is blood!"

And it makes me smile when I think about it because it's just so goofy.

Anyhow!

The pair have been separated for a decade, so whenever they reunite in K.H3, they want to spend a lot of time together. Whenever they were little and they got a break from E.raqus' training (or they snuck out at night hehe! Ash's idea ofc), they'd watch the stars together. Talk about all the different universes out there. How much they'd like to explore them all.

So I think that they should take a trip to Halloween Town! It's a running gag that Ash gets extremely blushy over all of the outfits A.qua throughout the different worlds. I think A.qua's outfit there would be a vampire costume, and Ash is very much not focused. Normally Ash's outfit covers most of her body but oh nooo suddenly her neck is exposed!!! Whatever shall A.qua do??

(you should've seen them whenever they went to Atlantis and were both mermaids LMAO Ash was blushing the same red as her tail!)

But yeah! Ash thinks A.qua is the most stunning woman ever in every single spooky AU.

Essentially, AtPverse started as one fic, "All the Pieces Lie Where They Fell" which was my "what I thought could happen in KH3." I started writing it in 2011. It then got VERY BIG! It ended up with two sequels, a prequel, and some bonus content.

Additionally, AtPverse became intrinsically linked with my sibling @rarmaster's FtPverse when we were jokingly talking about how my Namine was the Namine the Riku Replica remembered and thus my universe was the universe he left.

Canonically, AtPverse diverges before KH3D.

LOGISTICS

Email list was decided upon when rar was running logistics about the easiest way to send this stuff out and the Dracula Daily method turned out to be the best one!

Just AtPverse will net you ~3-5k in your inbox every few days or so. I've got about a million words (give or take) to send out so it'll take about 2 years. I say "a chapter or two" because early chapters were short. So some emails may be three? I haven't figured out my exact chapter groupings. But if I did a chapter at a time... we're looking at a 5 year commitment.

Signing up for the pair of AtPverse and FtPverse is a lot! But we'll be alternating days. There's some fun crossovers. That said, you don't have to do both.

You'll get a short little author's note at the beginning for ~connection~ but other than that, it's just fanfic delivered to your inbox! AtPverse is a story about wanting to live. About wanting to save your friends/save the world. It's about fighting to live.

But sometimes that's not easy.

CONTENT WARNINGS

Violence on the page. It's technically canon-typical violence for Kingdom Hearts, but I toe the line a bit to the darker side. There are fight scenes. There is death.

There is major character death in that villains die. Given how Kingdom Hearts and the Organization works, not everyone formerly in the Organization lives. I tried to give satisfying arcs.

Also, in the prequel, there are deaths that overlap with what happens in Final Fantasy games.

There is no rape or sexual assault/abuse. Honestly, as far as sexual content, there is about none of it. There's some kissing. It's written very PG in that regard.

SPOILERY CONTENT WARNINGS

Axel and Riku are both self-depricating but it's largely in line with what already existed in the KH-universe at the time.

There are many discussions of whether or not killing Xehanort also means killing Terra. The characters, while hoping they can do this in a way that means Terra lives, recognize that they might not get everything they want.

It is straight up mentioned that Larxene physically and emotionally abused the Riku Replica and some of the content that runs in both FtPverse and AtPverse deals with this. It is also shown on-screen in parts.

Sure, I’m in the midst of rewriting it right now (doing that technique where you write it again but only the parts you remember) and the original fic was never finished but I can give some snippets.

Sora had finally made it back. After a whole year of searching, Riku was able to guide him back to the Realm of Light. Ven, like the rest of them, was smiling so wide his cheeks hurt.

The thing was, they weren’t alone.

A girl stepped out of the portal behind them. She wore a white dress and red bows in her hair. Something in his heart itched.

She scanned the people surrounding her, giving everyone a glance. Then her eyes landed on Ven. And on Ven her eyes stayed, alight with fear.

Ven’s stomach sank with familiarity. His breathing quickened. The itch turned to a jackhammer, rattling his core.

He took a step back. Then another. Then another.

It’s her.

Who’s her?

He broke eye contact.

“Are you alright?” Xion looked up at him with earnesty.

Through the fading dread, Ven managed a shaky grin and a nod. The girl’s brow furrowed but, thankfully, she didn’t push. He wondered if he and Roxas made similar faces when they lied.

“Come on, introduce yourself,”

“H-hello, I’m Strelitzia”.

Strelitzia.

The name rang in his head like bells. A cacophony just like the end. Like a new beginning.

It’s all my fault.

What is?

“Aren’t you going to say hi, Ven?” Aqua asked, concern not even hidden as she passed by.

Everyone seemed to be introducing themselves now. Strelitzia looked a little overwhelmed by all the attention.

“Uh, maybe… I don’t want to be rude but she, uh… makes me feel” he grappled for a word, “weird”.

“Weird?”

He wasn’t sure that was a good enough word.

“Nervous?”

That didn’t feel right either.

Aqua paused for a moment, Ven could see the gears turning in her head.

“Alright”

“You are around that age,” “Past it even”.

“Lalala! Not listening,”

“‘I can’t stop thinking about her’,”

“Guys, seriously, stop. It’s not a crush!” His confidence faltered, “At least… I-I don’t think it is”.

Maybe crushes did feel this way. He wouldn’t know, he’d never had one. But if they were supposed to feel like this he couldn’t imagine why anyone would want the feeling. It was just so... so suffocating.

“Kairi?”

“Hm?” The girl turned her head and eyed him expectantly.

Ven’s mouth suddenly felt like a desert. Was he really going to ask this? Was he even close enough with her to ask this? It’s a personal question. Maybe he shouldn’t bother.

No. He- He had to know.

He steeled his nerves and the question fell from his mouth, “do you have a- a crush on someone?”

The other wielder blinked in surprise and awkwardly, almost sympathetically replied, “Uh, yes, I do… why”

Ven felt so incredibly sheepish. In a voice barely louder than a whisper he asked, “What does it feel like?”

“Oh,” Something that resembled relief flashed in her expression, leaving Ven to wonder what she thought he was going to say, “(she’s supposed to describe it here but I don’t know how and I felt too awkward to ask someone lol)”

“So you don’t feel sick?”

“Feel sick?”

“That’s how I feel around Strelitzia…” “Aqua and Terra think I have a crush on her but-”

“But you aren’t sure”.

Ven shook his head

“Well, everyone’s different, but that doesn’t sound like a crush to me”

I'm discovering I don't know the ending of KH3 as well as I would like. Then in my replays of the game, I often don't make it to the end. Nature of the story I think.

However, I kind of have to now because in a twist of fate (heh) my WIP has led me to try to rewrite the ending of the story. It's not that I don't actually like the ending, I do (no matter how much I've fought with it). It's that...I have questions. Questions that need answering.

It's like the New Doctor Who story Turn Left. In it Donna makes a left turn down a road, instead of the right, and in so doing changes everything. Most of my fan fics start with that concept.

Also, there are other questions in my head that I want answered. By using stories, it allows me to explore those questions, and sometimes helps me find the answer. Actually, this is what brought me to KH in the first place. I had a question, and it answered it--several times over. I'll let you muse over what that question might be.

But hey, now you know (if you care) a bit about my creative process in story creation. It's fun, and I love it.

3: I mostly write start to finish? Like when I started out I vehemently wrote start to finish, but nowadays it's common for me to write in order and then occasionally skip ahead a small bit while fleshing out my outline to type a rudimentary version of an interaction or thought process so I don't forget it by the time I get to that point. Every once in a while I'll hop around by choosing to just write whatever point in my outline that struk me in the brain on how to do, usually because I have writer's block on the scene before, but rarely do the stars align for this.

5: I am ngl, the perfect environment is basically just cozy and homey and comfortable, but it wildly shifts between "No sounds. NO SOUNDS WHATSOEVER" and "Play that music that you're obsessed with on repeat it will give you the energy". Although the sound thing probably depends on how over or understimulated I am

7: Hmm probably...the getting myself to write bit?

Coming up with ideas? Mostly figured out. Doing the outline? Let my brain go wild as it gets obsessed with the idea. Dialogue and fight scenes? Sure there can be struggle here and there, but got that. Editing? Only freaking sucks when the fic is long or when I'm stressed and also can't tell if I hate it because it's bad or because the brain is bad

But getting myself to start writing takes the most struggle and can often feel like I'm just waiting for the stars align and for it to just happen (which it can actually, just not reliably enough to rely on it)

19: Ooohoo this is a good question and it'll probably not have an easy answer

So, in general, I have the easiest time with characters I am 1. Obsessed over and 2. Have spent a lot of time thinking about and/or writing meta for. For example, I've done a lot of Riku pov in my kh fics, and I think even today Riku's pov is one that I can fall into naturally, even if it's been a while since I wrote kh fic or back on my hyperfixation bullshit (and sometimes if I'm not on it at all). Even if I haven’t written a fic, just the act of doing media analysis and thinking about them and having gender envy can get me in the headspace enough for them to be easier, because I have an idea of them in my head and I feel as if I almost *get* them

In general, the hardest are ones for properties I have just gotten into or for characters that I might love but haven't quite fully dissected yet. For example, I've been a zelda fan for ages, but writing the Ghirazim fic was difficult. And you wouldn't think that, cause it's a dumb crackfic for a crackship, right? But on top of having to balance two character who are from completely unrelated properties, make their personalities play off of each other, make their similarities obvious but make sure to balance this and make it clear what makes them different so you're not equating them as the same person, and try to make them convincingly have feelings for each other while also being in character, I had to write Ghirahim. And even though I love Ghirahim and have been a Zelda fan since I was young, it's only recently I've been digging deep into him, and I just barely had at the time, so it was hard writing him while also not having it from his pov. (Wow I just realized how that fic probably prepared me for writing lawlight wtf). And it gets harder if the character isn't one I'm currently obsessed with. For example, I can sink into Riku so easily, but even though I wanna wrote Terra ship fic, it would take perseverance to start, because I've never really written Terra Kingdom Hearts and I he doesn't live in my brain rent free, even though I do like and relate with him.

The easiest answer I can give you to this question is Light Yagami. He is easy yet hard. I can easily fall into his headspace but he takes so much work. The reason being is that I have done the first thing I meantioned. I think about him a lot, even if I don't always talk about him. There's scores of meta on the brain for him as to his morality, what an act is to him, the difference between his acts and the real him, pulling at all the strings to work out what is closest to who he is and thinking about what he's been through that makes up him, etc. I need to kiss him, I need to see him wrecked, he looks the best when he's on the verge of death, I have gender envy and just regular old envy for a few things (I also love when he gets kicked and punched in the face. I also love when he looses. Duality of man and all that. He's my seemingly put together and perfect neurodivergent bitch loser). I feel as if I can sink into his headspace. And yet....he's still so hard at the same time? No matter what iteration of him I'm writing, I always have to keep in mind what makes the versions of him different, how he would react in a specific situation, what times he would be fine letting go and which he would choose to hold back. It's like I'm playing a perfect balancing game of all the things that make up him and his acts, channeling my meta and character analysis of him through him, dealing with my own perfectionism. He is not easy. He is not hard. He's so easy. He's so hard. He's easyhard idk what to tell ya, but the outcome of writing him always feels so satisfying to me. So, at least all the effort and thoughts taken up pay off😂😂😂
