For many, the notion of a car, freshly presented to the world as the one to beat, then breaking down on its first race, would be too much to bear. But for Enzo Ferrari, this was not a moment of despair, but simply, a ‘promising failure’. It was a learning curve, just another small chapter in his desire to always evolve in the unwavering quest for performance. The best Ferrari ever built was, indeed, the next one, and the repaired 125 S did the job at Rome.
125 YEARS since ENZO FERRARI was born on February 18, 1898, the dream lives on.

five years ago, nico rosberg had the balls to walk out of formula 1 at the very top after winning his championship. i, personally, like to think of myself as jacques villeneuve, decadent, unhinged, burning every bridge he had until he just couldn’t go back in during the middle of a season. either way, i’m leaving this blog lol!
it might seem overdramatic at first, and it is, but i wanted to explain myself so it doesn’t look like it’s just a fit caused by mental struggles or something like that. when i started this blog, my goals were to go apeshit about the stuff i liked and have fun. i think it was a mega W that i managed to do that, and i swore to myself i would burn it all to the ground if it stopped being fun. truth is, i enjoy still very much writing and doing my photo edits, but something’s missing here i didn’t like that much, and the fact that after one week of minor-to-severe issues i barely thought twice about changing my mind means that indeed, it was time to close the curtains.
but this is not a sad call and it doesn’t have to be! i’m pretty happy because during my small (and weird) time on f1blr, i was amazed at how talented i was, because i really didn’t know i had it in me and i learnt so much while doing my content. but beyond my own genius, you lot are fucking iconic. you guys might not realise it about yourselves, or self-doubt a bit too much, but the fact so many of you legit are able to do amazing photo edits, graphic designs, video edits, fancams, long write ups, fanfiction, mining in the darkest corner of the web, etc etc, as proper professionals, all of this, starting from formula fucking one? sometimes even two or three? FREC? W Series? Formula E? Indy fucking Car???? you bitches are talented! even if you think you don’t do any of this so you don’t deserve praise, you guys interact with all of this content and you create amazing experiences for many people. professionally speaking, it was an honour to be alongside you.
character wise though, well. some of you are real dicks who probably are far past redemption and in a next life will come back as cockroaches and you really need to properly look inside yourselves to halt the idiocy. BUT i met a lot of people who are awesome, who made me laugh so hard, and cry in the best way possible, and these past few days the amount of support and love i got far outweighed the bad, and so many people who hadn’t ever even said hi to me came to give me their support! i wish i could answer everyone on my dms and my askbox but it’s still a bit sore. i never said i wasn’t one of those dicks who will come back as cockroaches, but i’m trying not to haha. all i can say is thank you a million times for everything and apologise for my lack of fortitude.
the blog will stay up for a while just so i have the time to get the contact of people who i liked (and i don’t think anyone will want to but if you would like to keep in touch then let’s change discords or something). i also worked pretty hard, esp on the hyperfixation corners so i’m not ready to delete them. then i’ll either password protect it or deactivate overall but i can always be a hypocrite, swallow my words and pretend this never happened!
i had a lot of fun and i was myself. sorry again for any disturbances caused!
forza ferrari and fuck off (lovingly)
ana :)

I Can't Lose You // Part 2
David was furious. He could no longer handle what he had been witnessing for the past hour. Jeff had been sitting way to close to Natalie for David's liking and whispering nothings making his 'assistant' laugh her heart out. She was smiling at him the way she had never smiled at him! David wanted Natalie's heart eyes only for him and not for some other man.
Oh man, David realised, he was so fucked. He never got this jealous over some girl. But this wasn't some girl, this was his Natalie. David took a breath and looked at Natalie. When was it that she became more than an assistant? More than his best friend?
Was it when se was there with him till 4 am when he edited his vlogs or when she was running him errands while being jet lag? When did her long stories sound like sweet harmonies to him? Fuck, out of all the people he could fall in love with, he fell for his freaking best friend.
After a restless night of Natalie tossing around her bed, today was shooting day and Natalie had a lot on her plate for the day. Nick, the science guy, was going to arrive any moment and they had to carry out this made-for-YouTube science experiment. While Natalie sorted David's flights for the next week's show in statten Island, Jeff came and sat next to her on the comfortable white sofa.
"Hey, Nat. Watcha doing?"
"Hi, Jeff. I'm just doing the usual 'assistant' stuff. David has this show in a Statten Island college next week so I'm just booking flight tickets." said Natalie, while quickly tapping away on her Macbook Air.
"Statten Island, eh? You know who's from there? Me." said Jeff, pointing to himself, "which means I'm half seagull and half garbage"
A laughter escaped Natalie and filled the living room of David's house. It quickly caught David's attention. Natalie couldn't escape his gaze and both were caught in an unspoken moment. Natalie was the first one to break away from David's gaze, remember what he had said last night to Jason. He had basically called her boring and thought that no guy would ever kiss her. How could she let herself develop feelings for a guy who thought she wasn't exciting enough for him? Damn, Natalie.
"Nat!"
"Hmm, David?"
"Let's go" said David as he picked up the keys for his ferrari.
" But where? Isn't Nick coming over? What about the science experiment?" said a puzzled Natalie.
"Change of plans, he texted me a list of stuff we need so gotta go to nearby home depot" lyingly said David, he just wanted to be alone with Natalie. She he hadn't talked to him much since yesterday night. He thought that maybe she was sick and tired after a long day but today seeing her laugh with Jeff with no worries on her face, he couldn't stomach the fact that she was sick last night. Had he done something to upset her?
"But I brought everything he texted me, I don't think I have missed anything" said even more confused Natalie.
" Oh, yeah you bought stuff for other experiment. I just talked to him 5 minutes ago and we decided on doing this experiment which could possibly break the Guinness World Records, so we gotta bring some more containers and he'll probably bring other chemicals " said David, quickly coming up with a theory to support his earlier lie.
" okay, let me grab my purse and glasses"
Natalie left the room and heard Jeff say
"So why do you need your ferrari to go to a store? Isn't that what you call a 'perfect - for- date' car?"
"Ah, dude nothing like that. Just felt the need for speed" David said jokingly, while making finger guns at Jeff.
Before Jeff could grill David anymore, Natalie reentered the room with her hands full of stuff.
Both buckled in, silence surrounded David and Natalie. Natalie's mood had become sour soon after hearing David's comment about 'need for speed'. Why God, why did she ever develop feelings for this idiot who thought of her nothing more than a friend?
"So, you and Jeff seemed quite cozy this morning on the couch" David said breaking the silence, his grip around the wheel suddenly tightened. He couldn't even confront her without getting angry.
"What are you trying to say Dave?"
" I don't know, should I know if you're having an affair with one of my friends? I mean I AM your boss and would not be pleased with that" said David with his jaw muscles clenched.
"WHAT? what the fuck dave? Are you implying that I'm having an 'affair' with Jeff? Since you're my 'boss', please enlighten me how you came to this conclusion?" shouted an angry Natalie. She couldn't believe what she was hearing, an affair? With JEFF?
" There is no need to shout at me. I'm saying what I saw. You were clearly enjoying talking to him evident from your loud af laughter!"
"Excuse me, wait a fucking minute. Am I not allowed to laugh in your house?!"
" No, laugh as much as you want to but what you're not allowed to do is waste my time. You're supposed to be my assistant and not some social butterfly who needs to speak to each of my friends when they come to the house!"
After uttering those words did he realise what he had done, he had just accused Natalie of being 'useless'.
Meanwhile, out of anger, David's foot hit the gas. Now they were going at a speed which was suitable for a racing ground not streets of L. A.
"DON'T YOU FUCKING DARE! I do ALL the work I'm supposed to day as your fucking assistant. Never have I ever said no to your menial tasks or shooting idiotic vlog bit. And here is what I get for doing all that, being accused of being a useless assistant!" Natalie could feel tears brimming, anger did that to her. But she felt more than anger, she felt hurt.
" I can't believe this, earlier you calling me boring and now this, fucking useless. What do you think I am? A ragdoll? Do I not deserve an ounce of your respect, if not as an assistant then as a friend?" a tear tricked down her cheek.
Before David could say anything, everything went black.

an evening in autumn
Danny Phantom fanfic. Summary: Now in their late teens, Dani and Valerie go on a date.
-
On a chilly autumn night, Dani dragged her companion by the wrist through the streets of downtown. They left the club and its heart-thumping music behind, and when they ducked into a dark narrow alley, Dani transformed. It lit up the graffiti splayed across the brick walls and the litter scattered around the trash cans, but she grinned, pulling her partner into a bridal carry and taking off into the sky.
“You haven’t gotten rid of the habit?” Valerie asked, tossing her hair to face the wind.
“Of flying like this? Nope!”
The dark-haired woman snorted. “I meant hiding when you transform.”
Glowing green eyes flickered towards her. “I know halfas aren’t a secret now, but I can’t do anything about it,” Dani said, turning her gaze back towards her destination, “so I still wanna keep my choice on when and where I reveal mine.”
Valerie hummed in understanding and craned her neck, trying to follow her line of sight. Whatever Dani had her eyes on, it was at a distance her human sight could not catch. The ghost girl’s grip under her knees and shoulders were secure, so she kept her arm around Dani’s neck loose. The city lights sped past them below, the air kissing her bare skin.
“Where are we going? You know I’ve got class tomorrow morning. I can’t stay up late.”
The halfa shot her a lopsided smile. “I got it, Miss Studious. Trust me.”
Of all the places Dani would have brought her to, Valerie wasn’t expecting them to return to the college campus, much less fly towards her own dorm. Dani refused to tell her what she was up to, instead buzzing with a sort of excited energy that reminded Valerie of a boy she had once dated, once he had come out of his shell. She pushed the memories away.
When they drew nearer to the dorm’s rooftop, Valerie immediately spotted the set up in the center. A coffee table with unlit candles, and a small blue couch piled with cushions. A bouquet of flowers lay on the center of the table, next to chips, two empty glasses and a bottle. She gaped.
“Are those from the student lounge?”
Green tinted Dani’s cheeks as she set her down next to the table and couch. “Nobody’s gonna miss some furniture for a couple hours.” Still floating in the air, she dashed towards the candles and lit them up, one by one, with a little green flame at the tip of her index finger.
“Wow,” Valerie said, joining the halfa as she sunk into the couch with a bounce. “This is… when did you even have the time to do this?”
“When you were busy in the bathroom,” Dani said, transforming back. Without her spectral glow, the candle flame glowed brighter, spilling a warm hue onto the furniture. She picked up the bouquet and pressed it into Valerie’s hands. The flowers were pretty, but she didn’t recognize them, and they were haphazardly wrapped together in mesh paper and tape. Dani saw her looking, and she rubbed her neck with a hand. “I picked them from the outskirts because I thought they looked nice. I don’t really know anything about flower arrangement—”
“No, no,” Valerie said, her smile growing, “this is amazing.”
Dani beamed.
They popped open the bottle, which turned out to be apple cider (I’m broke as hell, Dani told her, though she froze over the exterior of it to cool it down). Pouring it into the glasses, they talked into the night. About college, which Dani couldn’t stop asking questions on. About the stars they could see in the sky, whose stories behind their constellations Valerie listened to, as the halfa elaborated with a lot of gesturing and a faint glow to the freckles on her cheek.
When there was a lull in conversation, Dani pulled out a packet of what looked like green powder and dumped it into her own cider.
“What,” Valerie said as the halfa downed it in a gulp.
Dani burst out laughing. “You know catnip? But like, for ghosts.” She rubbed the side of the glass to her face and closed her eyes. “Oh man, so good.”
Valerie blinked in surprise when she opened bright green eyes instead of blue. “Do I want to know where you got it from?”
“No, but hey, what do you think of Danielle Ferron?”
“What?”
“Too lame. Danielle Fabianski? Ugh, that’s sketchy. Danielle… Ferrufino!”
“Where is this coming from?” Valerie laughed. Dani poured more of the catnip – ghost nip? – into her glass, swirling the cider in it furiously.
“Okay, that’s probably enough.” Valerie made a grab for the packet.
“Don’t tell me what to do,” Dani whined, holding it out of reach. “Tell me what you think of Dani Ferrari.”
“God-awful.”
They went back and forth, but as the night drew on, Valerie could tell Dani was no longer very coherent. She was also glowing and floating an inch above the couch, despite being in human form.
Valerie reached out and snagged at the girl’s wrist. “I think it’s time to call it a night.”
“No.” Dani straightened and wobbled in the air. “Maybe. I’ll— I’ll float you back.”
They set their things down, though Valerie held on to the bouquet just as Dani turned them intangible. The halfa was aware enough to drift them into the right room, and they popped back to tangibility.
“Dani?”
Valerie spun around. Her roommate was sitting at her desk with an open book, teal eyes wide in surprise. Valerie had completely forgotten about her. She looked back at Dani, who was staring at Jazz Fenton with brows furrowed in confusion and something else.
Oh boy.
“Aren’t you supposed to be in a different state? Wait, never mind. I’m outta here.” Dani took a step towards the window, but she stumbled.
Jazz stood up. “Are you okay?”
“Maybe you should sit down,” Valerie said quickly, pulling the halfa to her bed.
Dani sat, blinking slowly. Jazz glanced between them, at the flowers in Valerie’s hold and her other hand on Dani’s wrist. Her eyebrows rose. Then she turned to the halfa. “Are you high on ghost nip?”
“No.”
“Right. Look, you can lay down and take some time for the effects to wear off. Danny wasn’t very stable as well when he was exposed to it-”
“I don’t want you or your brother’s help.”
“Dani, just lie down,” Valerie murmured.
The halfa groaned, then she flopped onto her back. She wouldn’t face Jazz’s direction.
Jazz’s shoulders slumped. “I have to go wash up. I’ll see you around.” Then she turned and left the room, the door drifting closed behind her with a quiet thud.
Valerie sat down next to her date. Dani stared at the ceiling, bright green eyes far away. The glow to her freckles had faded, along with her enthusiasm she had held throughout the night.
“You wanna tell me what’s going on between you and the Fentons?”
“It’s stupid.”
“It’s because of Danny, isn’t it? About him revealing his identity in front of the world?”
Dani’s gaze slid to her, watching her. “How’d you guess?”
“He revealed my identity too. As Red Huntress. In front of my dad. But what’s this got to do with the rest of his family?”
“It’s just— Danny never realized how much of a thing I had going for me, y’know? After I left Amity, I had a job. Helped out a nice old man with his café, and I made friends with all the customers. Then stupid Danny went to international TV and told everyone who he was.
“People kept thinking I’m related to him, especially if Dani Phantom shows up nearby. They think I’m like him, brave or… or heroic, or something.”
Valerie stayed quiet.
“All my life, he’s had what I want. A family, Vlad’s approval, and— I dunno, I just—” Dani took a shuddering breath. “I don’t feel like my own person, or like I’m in control of anything. I dunno. I tried staying in Amity for a bit but I guess seeing the Fentons just brought back some memories.”
“And you’ve been holding this in since the Disasteroid?”
“It’s dumb.”
“It’s not.” Valerie frowned. “Tell me these things, girl. I’ll listen. And I get it.”
“Really?”
“Why do you think I left Amity Park? It’s not just ‘cause of college. After Danny saved the world, people hated the Red Huntress. I’m not saying he shouldn’t have done any of what he did, because the guy tries his best, but.” Valerie shrugged. “Sometimes we just… get left behind. Are you crying?”
“No.” Dani sniffled. Valerie patted her arm.
“Sorry I ruined our date. It was supposed to be fun but then I just had to eat that powder.”
“Don’t be. It was fun.” Valerie held up the flowers. “And sweet. And Jazz Fenton can stop eavesdropping outside the door.”
A guilty-looking Jazz poked her head in. She plodded over, her hands behind her back. “Sorry.”
Dani sat up and rubbed her eyes. “It’s okay.”
“Would you… would you ever want to come back? For a visit? Maybe we could talk to Danny, or our parents. I know my brother’s been asking after you, but none of us ever heard any news.”
A part of Dani wanted to return, Valerie could tell. So did she.
The halfa shook her head. “Maybe someday.”
Sitting down on the other side of the bed, Jazz smiled in the gentle way she saved for her little brother. “Okay, but you’re still welcome in this dorm anytime. Don’t let me stop you from picking up Valerie for midnight escapades.”
“Hey!” Valerie laughed. Dani cracked a smile.
One day, they would return to Amity Park. But today, they would simply enjoy the present.

Oscar. 92 years young.
It’s time for the BIG ONE. The one we’ve been waiting for all season. The Academy Awards. The 92nd Oscars. The whole awards “season” culminates with tis slog of a night. Let’s see how this works without a host. It’s the second time they’ve done it and I didn’t hate it last year.
The show kicked off with a performance from Janelle Monae singing about “It’s Time to Come Alive”. I don’t know what the song was about it but I love her and her queer, African American self. Billy Porter made an appearance. He’s been strutting it allllll these shows. He looked batshit at the Grammy’s but tonight he looks normal, for him.
Steve Martin and Chris Rock DID NOT CARE. When people don’t give a shit, I love it. The Director category is missing vaginas. There were no black nominees in 1929. There’s one in 2020. Progress. Good shit. Eddie Murphy’s under the stage. Oooooh. They DO NOT CARE.
Regina King is butter. She looks amazing. Of course and as expected, Brad Pitt wins Best Supporting Actor for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. He’s won 100% of all the awards all season so this is the icing on the cake. Nice speech. I love him. I love this movie.
I love Mindy Kaling’s dress. She looks outstanding. Of course and as expected, Toy Story 4 wins Best Animated Feature. It really was incredible. Buzz & Woody are legends and now we can include Forky in that list of animated legends.
Josh Gad…..Idina Menzel. Pronounced just like it’s spelled. Take that, John Dumb-Ass Travolta. And that was kick ass. I totally loved the international take on Into the Unknown from Frozen 2.
Why, Diane Keaton, why? Isn’t it done with the whole Annie Hall thing? But the banter with Keanu Reeves was really quite funny. HOLY SHIT BALLS!!! Parasite wins Best Original Screenplay. Is this a sign of things to come?? I REALLY thought Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was going to clean up tonight. But maybe not. Is it going to be a Parasite night??????
What is Timothee Chalamet wearing? Is that a tracksuit? At the Oscars? Dude. What are you doing? I know you’re all fashion-y and shit but I’m not into it. Taika Waititi wins for Best Adapted Screenplay for Jojo Rabbit. A movie which I simply loved and adored. It made me laugh and cry.
Maya Rudolph and Kristen Wiig decided to go with the craziest thing they could find at the store. At least they’re funny. Because they look nuts. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood wins for Production Design. And that makes sense to me. It really looked amazing.
Loved the a cappella medley of clothes songs for Maya and Kristen to sing in advance of Best Costumes. Little Women wins. At least it won something because that’s likely going to be it. Normally the winner looks out of his/her mind when they walk on the stage. This woman looked downright sane.
What is this song that Chrissy Metz is singing? I have no idea what it is but she sounds really good.
I would like to thank Mark Ruffalo for just wearing a goddamn tux and looking fucking fantastic in it.
I absolutely hate Laura Dern’s dress but I love me some Laura Dern. She’s cleaned up all season so cap it off with the Oscar, why don’t ya? Of course and as expected. I don’t know why but it makes me teary-eyed EVERY time Laura Dern thanks Diane Ladd and Bruce Dern. I just love it that she thanks her parents and references them as her acting inspiration each time she collects an award.
Ummmmm. What is HAPPENING?? Eminem didn’t show when we WON the damn Oscar for writing this song but he gon show up for a fucking montage??? What is HAPPENING???? I love this. Every fucking thing on the stage right now is unbelievable. THE AUDIENCE IS STANDING UP. THE ENTIRE AUDIENCE INCLUDING MARTIN SCORSESE IS STANDING UP. Eminem, motherfuckers.
Sound Editing goes to Ford vs. Ferrari. I’m unclear on what sound editing is.
Sound Mixing goes to 1917. I’m unclear on what sound mixing is.
Jesus Christ. Randy Newman is starting to look really fucking old. He still sounds like Randy Newman though, so I guess that’s good.
Thank you for Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Will Ferrell for making some jokes. 1917 wins Best Cinematography. I’m going to remind you how little I care about 1917. In my shallow and small mind, it’s just basically Saving Private Ryan in World War I. That’s probably over-simplified but that’s what I get from previews.
Best Editing goes to Ford vs. Ferrari. I can dig it with all the car scenes. Thank GAWD it didn’t go to The Irishman. Because that movie wasn’t edited because it was 400 hours long. It was TOO fucking much.
Zazie Beetz looks AMAZING. Her dress is killer.
Cynthia Erivo is an amazing singer. She’s not going to win Best Actress so her only chance at the EGOT is Best Original Song. I’m not particularly feeling this song but strange things have happened.
Rebel Wilson and James Corden dressed up as cats from Cats. They don’t care. 1917 wins Best Visual Effects. Who cares?
I love that Ray Romana got bleeped. I do love when people get bleeped. Bombshell wins for Hair & Makeup. Which makes sense. John Lithgow isn’t exactly an overly attractive person but making him look like Roger Ailes, who is more or less the earthly embodiment of Jabba the Hutt, is worthy of an award.
Why is it now Best International Feature Film as opposed to Foreign Language Film? Of course and as expected, Parasite wins Best International Feature Film or Foreign Language Film. I guess that Bong Joon-Ho really likes the name change and what it symbolizes.
I know this is terribly un-LGBTQ of me but I just don’t care about Elton John and this song isn’t good.
Ummmmmm. Sigourney Weaver looks INCREDIBLE. If she’s had work done, it’s both discrete and expensive. It’s a testament when you stand next to people like Brie Larson and Gal Gadot and hold your own at nearly 70. Get it done, Sigourney.
Love this Icelandic woman winning Best Score for Joker. Love, love, love, love. There’s more than Bjork in Iceland. Great speech.
Elton John wins for Best Original Song and I don’t care.
OH SNAP. Bong Joon Ho wins Best Director for Parasite. Y’all, it’s looking good for Parasite. Solid, solid speech as delivered by this translator who DID NOT step it up for the Oscars. Still just a smart suit. I was hoping for more, girl.
I want so hard to get Billie Eilish. And I just don’t. But I always enjoy the In Memoriam. Kirk Douglas, 103 years old.
Olivia Colman must have got a deal on all that velvet. Ooooof. But, dammit, she’s hilarious. Of course and as expected, Joaquin Phoenix wins for Joker. He’s not right. His speech was insane. Art imitates life……
Of course and as expected, Renee Zellweger wins Best Actress for Judy. This Texas accent has been present this whole awards season. I don’t get it and I don’t know why. Her speech isn’t meaningful at all. It’s just names. Blah. Well, now, we’re trying to make it meaningful but I’m not sure it’s working.
Let’s stand up for Jane Fonda, shall we? She’s a fucking movie star. She looks REMARKABLE. Don’t get me wrong. She’s 81 years old and has been sliced and diced every which way but loose but still….she looks bananas amazing. Best Picture, y’all. What’s it gonna be???? The anticipation is palpable!!
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnddddddddddddddd the Oscar goes to: PARASITE!!!! I mean at this point it’s no surprise. First non-English movie ever to win Best Picture. I’m into it. I love it. The speeches are wonderful. I loved that Tom Hanks and Charlize were all like…Bring the light back up. Let them speak!
Peace out, Oscars. It’s time for bed.

Marvel’s Bachelors Part 4
Avengers x Reader, Thor Odinson x Reader, Sam Wilson x Reader, Steve Rogers x Reader, Peter Parker x Reader, Bucky Barnes x Reader
Warnings: drinking, adult situations, some violence and swearing may occur throughout series
Sooooo- I know I just put out part 3 but I wrote this pretty quick and I really love writing for this! :D There’s only two left before we start eliminating! Who’s next for a date- Thor or Steve?
Masterlist
Beginning- Previous- Next
------------------
Sure enough, early the next morning you were woken up by Natasha - she wanted you to get some breakfast before you went on your date with Sam.
“Why-isn’t it just going to be whatever Tony said it was?” You asked in the middle of brushing your teeth, “Wasn’t it a comedy club or something?”
She snorted, “Sam rarely ever lets other people decide what he’s doing. Except for Steve that is.” She picked through your clothes and found something that made you look nice for an afternoon out.
You walked downstairs not too long after, intent on coffee- which you found.
You hummed as you walked towards it, a beacon for your morning.
You heard a chuckle from beside you and snapped your head over, seeing Steve sitting down with a newspaper.
You threw him a grin as you poured yourself a cup, “I didn’t know anyone still read a physical newspaper.”
“I didn’t know someone could be so happy just sensing coffee.” He gave a slight smirk back as he looked over the top of his current article.
“Anything gruesome going on?” You asked, grabbing a slice of bread and popping it in the toaster. He frowned slightly and you sighed, “I suppose that’s a yes.” You gave a sad smile.
He folded it and set it down, “Excited for your date with Sam?”
You didn’t get a chance to answer because Thor himself walked into the kitchen, wearing a pair of pajama pants slung low around his hips as he sniffed.
“Is that magnificent drink here?” He asked, peaking around to see what was in your cup.
You blushed and shut your eyes, holding your cup close to you.
“Hey, Thor- I don’t know how you do it where you’re from but here we usually wear clothes outside of our rooms. There’s a lady present.” Steve spoke up.
“I am wearing pants, that is the important part is it not?” You could hear the smirk in Thor’s tone, “But if it makes Lady Y/N uncomfortable then I will be back in moments.”
“Woah, woah, woah!” You heard another person enter, sure that is was Sam. “This is my date with Y/N-stop flexing in front of her!” An arm slid around your shoulders and pulled you away, almost making you spill your coffee.
“See you later, losers.” Sam called and you finally opened your eyes as you were out of the room. “You ready for a day out?” He grinned to you and you couldn’t help but smile and nod.
He let you finish your coffee and then he winked and offered a hand, “I know you don’t really know me yet but do you trust me?”
“Sammmmmm!” You swore you could hear Tony calling rooms away and for some reason you felt the need to take his hand.
Sam immediately started sprinting off, dragging you with him, “I jacked these.” He held up a set of keys as he laughed, pushing the button as you neared one of the garages.
A red ferrari lit up and so did Sam’s face as he popped the key in the ignition and you closed your door, fastening your seat belt.
“Best hold on!” He called as he accelerated, forcing a laugh from you as you sped away.
He turned on the stereo and blasted music for the first half hour and you felt a tension release- there weren’t any visible cameras anywhere and you felt at ease with Sam.
He lowered the music as you both pulled into a parking lot off the water. “Ready for the best breakfast in Harlem?”
You nodded, eager to get out and then you added, “Aren’t you gonna get in trouble with Tony for this?”
Sam shrugged, “What’s he gonna do? Besides, I’ll have some friends film us a bit so he’ll still have footage.” He laughed, locking the car as he opened the diner door for you.
“Sam, is that you?” Someone from behind the counter called and after seeing him came over to give him a hug, “Short notice!”
He chuckled, nodding over to you, “This is Y/N- I told her this was the best breakfast in Harlem, don’t make me a liar.”
She greeted you with a smile, “Hi Y/N! If you need anything let me know! Sam usually over exaggerates things but for this he’s dead on.” She gave a wink and told you guys to sit anywhere you liked.
You picked a booth in the corner by the window, “I’ve never been here before!” You stated after you both were seated.
He chuckled, “I’m not surprised- a lot of people haven’t, especially people who aren’t from around here.”
“Who says I’m not from around here?” You looked back to challenge and he smiled.
“We got a file on you, honey, remember? I’m sure you’ve read up on us too, and Falcon is always prepared.”
You raised your eyebrows, “Always? For anything?”
He nodded, “That’s right!” He grinned.
You nodded in return, “Alright- then I get to pick where we go after this.”
He leaned forward, smirking at your confidence, “Deal.”
You both ordered and chatted while waiting for your food. “So you’re from around here, aren’t you?”
He nodded, “Yes, ma’am.” He grinned, “Grew up just a couple of blocks from here actually…”
You were surprised when he actually went into a story instead of playing everything off. It was about him growing up a bit and what he liked about this place. It was nice to see him passionate and not mocking something.
“Food’s up!” She walked over and placed the plates down and waited for you to try a bite.”
Your eyes widened, covering your mouth, “Wow, this is so good!”
She nodded and Sam threw his hands up in the air, “See! I told you, Falcon doesn’t lie baby.”
You both finished your food and you ate quickly- you loved it so much. Walking out, you both called back to her a thank you and you yelled ‘nice meeting you’.
Getting in the car, Sam looked over to you, “Where to?”
You pulled up the gps and told him to drive.
“Yes, ma’am!” He threw on a pair of sunglasses and turned the music back on.
It took you a long while to get there, even with him speeding but you made it.
“Coney Island? Really.” Sam looked over at you and you smirked. “We don’t even have bathing suits.”
“I thought you were ready for anything.” You sighed and shrugged, looking away from him before he could see your smirk.
“Let’s do it.” He chuckled, getting out of the car.
You both entered the park and a bot started flying above both of your heads.
“Unfortunately, we do need to give them some footage or Tony will kill me.” He sensed you tense up a little and added, “Fortunately, I can edit this however we want so let’s still be chill.”
You nodded, ready to get started. “So I’ve never been here before- what should we do first?”
His eyes widened a bit, “You’ve never been here?” He grinned, “Let’s get started then!” He rubbed his hands together, looking around.
Throughout the next couple of hours you both rode some rides, played arcade games and rode the ferris wheel- as well as getting a caricature done of the two of you. He even won you a little stuffed teddy bear that was red and you both stopped and ate later in the afternoon and had a few drinks- and to finish it all off, you both got soaked near the boardwalk.
Leaving the park, you laughed over to him as you were still dripping wet, “This was amazing! Thank you so much!”
He chuckled and gave a fake bow, “My pleasure! Today was a lot more fun than I was expecting- although I still have Tony to deal with.”
“Don’t you mean we?” You pouted a little as the voice came from a few feet away- there was Tony himself.
You took a breath to explain and Sam stopped you, “I can explain once we get back- we’re soaked and wanna get changed.” Tony crossed his arms so he added, “Please?”
The ride back was weird as Tony was driving and he made both of you sit in the back of the more boring van as an employee got to drive the ferrari back. Sam kept making faces in the back to amuse you and it got you some more looks from Tony.
Once back, the team laughed as you two entered- seeing Tony be the bad guy and the two of you soaked. You got led upstairs by Natasha who helped you change and get ready to be on camera for tonight’s filming.
--
“So, although we missed most of it-” Tony glared slightly over at you and shifted back towards Sam, “You guys had a fun time?”
Sam nodded, taking the lead, “It was a fun and chill day- we ate, rode some rides and played some games. Y/N is a lot of fun to be around.” He met your eyes and winked towards you, making you smirk and blush slightly.
“Y/N? Anything to add?”
Your attention snapped back towards the camera and you spoke up, “Sam was tons of fun! It was spontaneous and so much fun just be along for the ride.”
Tony continued his talk about tuning in and voting for the next round and your heart ached- you were getting closer to one of these guys getting eliminated. They all seemed like amazing people and you couldn’t wait to hang out with them afterwards.
You looked over and glimpsed at them all, smiling and nervous on camera but all really nice and accommodating off.
--
Walking off set, Sam found you and handed you the picture that was drawn of you two and you giggled.
“This is amazing- are you sure you want me to keep it?” You asked, meeting his eyes.
He nodded back, “But I’d like to see it once and a while so keep it out, okay?” He chuckled and then met Tony’s death gaze. Apparently, he wasn’t done with the talk. “Run.” He whispered towards you before walking towards Tony and you turned and walked as fast as you could in the other direction.
Turning the corner, you ran straight into Bucky.
“Oops!” You shrieked a little after you jumped, “Sorry!” You laughed towards him and he grinned back.
“I heard you guys played hooky today.” He teased.
“Technically, we fulfilled the requirements we were supposed to.” You teased back and the picture caught Bucky’s eye.
“May I?” He asked and you handed it to him with a nod. His eyes wrinkled up as he looked it over, “It looks like you guys had a blast. We’ll have to get one of these done, too.”
You nodded, “For sure! I’d love to get one with everyone.” You grinned, taking the picture back after he offered it. “I should get some sleep it’s been a busy few days- you boys are keeping me on my toes.” You laughed and he chuckled back.
“That’s what we’re here for.” He turned and walked with you back towards your room and stopped near your door.
“Thanks for walking me back, goodnight!” You grinned to him before turning.
“You know- rumor has it Peter got a kiss on the cheek.” You heard his smirk from behind you and you turned to give one of your own.
“Someone sounds a little jealous.” You giggled and he shrugged. Waiting another moment he turned his head and poked at his cheek. “Pushy, pushy.” You laughed, giving in and pecking him on the cheek quickly, “Goodnight, Bucky.” You winked before walking into your room and shutting the door.
You shook your head and giggled to yourself- the Marvel men were much different than you expected.

Chapters: Prologue || Chapter 1 (coming soon) || Chapter 2 (coming soon) ||
6 years ago.
I never did this. It is a complete new experience for me. One thing for sure is this is a moment I may love or regret it when I look back. If I regret this, then I blame it on the vodka.
Jeon Jungkook was on top of me, half-naked, sweating and moaning and grabbing the back of his neck while someone aka me was licking trials of salt, lime, vodka and possibly sweat off his chest having the best sex of my life - A dirty one with the hottest man I had been dating for a while. Probably the hottest man to have ever walked on this earth.
Completely and utterly porn star worthy sex. Trust me.
Jungkook made me feel like the sexiest woman on earth. On top of that, the alcohol made my inhibitions fly out of the window. I did and said things, I didn't even know I was capable of even with my face pressed to the seat, I told him how I wanted it and he willingly did it or gave it to me. When it was all over, he simply laid on me, gasping for air and sweating. Now to be honest I did find his sweat sexy, don't ask me why. This moment was easily the hottest experience or moment of my life.
"We are going to get a hell of a hangover tomorrow morning, Jungkook." I mumbled weakly into his ear. Too tired and exhausted to do anything.
"I know. Just shut up and let me lay on you." Jungkook's chest rumbled gently and snuggled his face into my neck, his stubble scratching softly on my skin.
Oh man, sometimes I wake up feeling like a cat run over me... Jesus, I never meant any harm. All I wanted was a good time. Did someone super glue my eyes together? I got up taking in my surrounding. I was in my bed, in my room, in my pajamas. Last I remember was I was in the back of the car - oh my god, fucking Jeon Jungkook while drunk. What day is today? The day I had to meet Jungkook's parents. And I am fucking late! - I had pressed the snooze button way too many times and I couldn't rush to his house the way I was dressed. I thanked Jungkook in silence brining me home, since that's the only way I could've been in bed safe and sound. I scrambled to the bathroom, took the fastest shower I had ever done in my entire existence, dissed my usual middle part for my hair and simply pulled it into a messy pony tail. Pulled on a black t-shirt that was laying somewhere on the floor and a white blazer that was rest on top of other clothes on the 'chair'. Black pantsuit, aviator sunglasses, black flat heels and one last look in the mirror before running out of my flat.
As usual, I forgot to lock my apartment door, but right now I couldn't care less. Just for a couple hours - I mean nothing so major would happen in those hours. Right?
My 20 year old ford had been acting up lately, another thing added to my growing list of things I needed to buy and replace. Plus some wall paint since some started to chip off. Headphones since the last one just ripped on when I couldn't be bothered to untangle it and oh! socks without big-ass hole. And right now, in my current financial crisis? Fuck no. I can't even afford a Mcdonald Happy Meal. Tragic. I do earn money, but these hella cool food and stuff always gets to me like oh my god! Kylie Jenner shit. I don't even know why I buy it. Save me.
"Please start up. Or I'll fucking kill you." I half pleaded, half threatened at the non-human object. After a few smoky chugs and some sounds of a old cat dying, it finally started up. I drove straight out, onto the highway, not giving any fucks if I was this close to getting a speeding ticket. All I wanted to do was simply reach his place on time and give a good impression on his family. Not the 'Sorry, I fucked your son last night. It was amazing and I was drunk as fuck so I had a massive headache next morning and couldn't be bothered to get dressed properly. Oh! one more thing, I can't stop swearing' thing.
After 3 speeding tickets and 7 songs later, I arrived at a parking place. Nothing special except the fact that it was all BMW's, Mercedes, Porsches, Ferrari and even Lambor-fucking-ghini, which was all nice considering it made my car look like a piece of a brown dog shit to all the golden glittery gold nugget. Which one would you pick? Obviously the gold.
I got out with a pounding headache and a lurching stomach. But when I finally got inside this high-class skyscraper with Jeon Jungkook’s family names plastered on it like that Avenger tower Tony Stark had, I was downright shocked to find Jeon Jungkook waiting for me. None of his relatives or as a matter of fact, anyone was standing next to me. He had his arms crossed in a business-like manner. Something was very wrong.
"Sorry, I am so late. Did I ruin it? Did they leave? Jungkook I-" I didn't get to finish my sentence as Jungkook simply put his right hand up and silenced me with that move. It was crazy that I was that submissive to one simple non-verbal move by him.
"Pack your bags and go home. You are not required here." Jungkook stated blandly, not a single trace of emotion was shown at all.
"But-" I spoke up only to be silenced by him again.
"Just do it. You are wasting my valuable time." Jungkook put his hand down, again blank of expression
"Okay, but why?" I demanded shakily. Originally. I was staying in New York temporarily, until he came along. If I didn't have a reason to stay then I would be sent back to Oregon, which is literally on the other side of fucking America. Nobody got time for that shit.
"Simply because your alliance as well as your futile attempt to start a company would give a negative image to my company." Jungkook stated, devoid of any emotions. I was trying my level best to hold it in and press it a little further.
"Is it because of last nigh-" I was interrupted rudely for the nth time.
"Last night was a mistake and I was simply sexually frustrated. Now I don't need you. Please get the fuck out of my building. I bought you plane tickets considering your shitty amount of money in your bank account. Now instead of being a ungrateful bitch, pack your bags and go home by tonight." And with that he turned around on his heels and walked away leaving me distraught and appalled. That was a huge blow to me.
Finally, I gathered my courage and yelled back with pain and hurt evident in my voice, "Fuck you, Jungkook. I feel sorry for whoever gets you." That was weak and did little to soften the blow on me. The pang of pain and betrayal het me at huge force when I thought about the fact that he simply used me and tossed me away so easily just like banana peel.
Author’s note: Hoped you enjoyed the little prologue, I’ll try my best to keep the story interesting. Critical feedback is always welcomed and if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask me! :)

Ford vs. Ferrari (Or, John Henry vs. THE MAN!)
Back in January 2001, my brother and I had the day off from school, so my mom, to keep us busy, took us to a second-run theater to see Remember the Titans, knowing nothing more than it was a sports movie. It was much to her delight that the movie was about much more than sports, but about the harms of segregation, and especially appropriate given that the day was Martin Luther King Day.
And so today on Father’s Day 2020 I have accidentally stumbled upon watching about racing cars that seems entirely appropriate for the day: James Mangold’s Ford vs. Ferrari. This movie does something I thought near impossible. It made me legitimately interested in watching car racing. I couldn’t tell you the first thing about how a car works, nor do I care, and the very thought of attending a NASCAR event bores me to tears. But I challenge anyone to not get nervous while watching the film’s most tense moments of racing, which were some of the most well-edited and directed sequences in a film in 2019. A scene famous from the trailers shows a Ford exec in tears after a test run of a new vehicle. And the way the film manages to convey the speed and danger of driving is palpable, justifying the tears and relief the exec sheds upon the end of the ride.
But of course, a two and a half hour film of only racing scenes would be boring, no matter how well-crafted. Unfortunately the requisite scenes in the interim do the bare minimum to tide us over until the next racing sequence. They tell the story of how one-time racing great Carrol Shelby (Matt Damon) managed to convince the struggling bureaucratic giant, Ford Motor Company, to start a racing division in order to improve sales by proving they are “cool” and can take on the more elite craftsmen’s cars from Ferrari. It’s John Henry vs. the Machine inverted; we’re rooting for the machine.
Or are we? Because the catch is that Shelby is ever in a power struggle with the suits from Ford, both Henry Ford II (Tracey Letts) and especially his smug lieutenant Leo Beebe (Josh Lucas) over the image Ford as a company should allow as they pursue Ferrari. The primary contention is that the best driver for the job, Ken Miles (Christian Bale), is an obnoxious, hot-headed British ex-pat with a mouth. He is, in Beebe’s pretentious opinion, “not a Ford man.” And so the movie goes, following the typical underdog format common to sports films as they rage against “the Man.”
Truthfully, this conflict was a little boring. Watching a bunch of men act like children fighting to prove that their toy (i.e. car) is the best is a little tiresome. Josh Lucas plays Beebe well in the sense that you hate him before he can even say a word, and his pettiness is grating. And given how dominant Miles is as a driver, it’s hard to understand just why he holds such hostility; an early-movie verbal tossup between Miles and Beebe just doesn’t seem to justify it.
And maybe that’s on of the points of this film: to point out and question the American (mostly) male’s tendency towards unjustifiable pride and unwillingness to yield to one’s betters. Scenes with Henry Ford II in particular portray an insufferable macho-ness and entitlement. He’s the head of the company yet faced with slumping sales he confronts a factory saying, “Whoever comes to my office with a new idea first, that person I will consider keeping their job,” as if he isn’t in any way responsible.
The childishness of this attitude is made clear in a memorable scene where Shelby and Miles begin wrestling like brothers in the middle of a park, only to stop, lie next to one another, and ask for Miles’ wife to bring them some sodas. The film seems to acknowledge that the male bravado on display everywhere is childish, setting itself up for a surprising and earned sacrifice of pride at the film’s end. It’s unfortunate the plot doesn’t explore this sacrifice further with one character making too abrupt an exit.
And so the link to Father’s Day. Where the film’s interstitial scenes are most effective (and sometimes a ittle corny) are those focusing on Miles and his adolescent son, Pete. The boy idolizes his father, hiding in his room with a radio listen to his races deep into the night when his mother thinks he’s sleeping. There’s a very moving scene where Pete talks to the most senior member of Shelby and Miles’ crew and asks about the real risks of racecar driving, confronting the dark irony of “flame-proof” suits that are often far from it. But for Miles’ part, he will always choose his son as the first person with whom to celebrate a victory. The individual scenes can be moving, and his son often serves as the stand-in for us as the audience, but ultimately the side-plot goes little further than just saying, “Man, what a great Dad this racecar driver was!”
But as I said, any scenes that don’t take place within or just around a vehicle moving 200 mph are merely there to keep us busy while we wait for the next expertly crafted, high-speed sequence. And so it’s hard to fault the film for not doing more with its characters and dialogue, because, let’s face it, you turned this on for the action, not to learn to be a better father. Still, as far as Father’s Day movies go, I’d happily watch this one again.
*** (Three stars out of four)
Capsule Review: The racing movie for people who don’t care about cars... that isn’t Pixar’s Cars

I also got them a box of chocolates, in case you were wondering
Again, I no longer have enough of a life expectancy to express myself succinctly, so this will be a little bit in the coming; if you want to skip ahead, this is a somewhat-redacted/edited version of the thank-you letter I wrote to the Radiation Team (including Radiation Oncologist and Radiation Nurse) - I’ve revised it to make everyone’s identity slightly more anonymous (I also included a copy of the nuclear-themed playlist, which, based on everyone’s reaction, might be my lasting contribution to the planet)(we can’t always be picky about our legacy); again, I apologize if you’re a member of the radiation team reading this now and you want me to publicly acknowledge you - I mean, if this mad gamble works out, you’d best believe I’ll be willing to spray paint your name across Mount Rushmore, if that’s what you want - but, in the meantime, it seems unforgivably tacky to write about these fine folks in a way that readily identifies them, without their express permission. Yes, Radiation Oncologist got a little misty when reading it. The receptionist hugged me (yes, she got a copy; she’s also a wonderful person who made this whole thing a little more bearable by chuckling at my weird, dark jokes)(and she - probably with some help from Research Coordinator - jiggered the treatment schedule to work around my weird chemo-infusion schedule and SoCal traffic; which probably required an advanced degree in mathematics).
A few take-away lessons (again, there just isn’t enough time in the day for me to not stop writing, so you’re getting a helluva lot even on stuff I’ve already prepared). First, you seek out the very best people in medicine - or any profession, really - because top-notch professionals have exceptional standards. When I asked Mad Scientist if there was a radiotherapy/chemo team a little closer to my home turf she’d refer me to, she made some calls. And sent me to the Warlocks (and, in terms of talent/intelligence, they are neck-and-neck - we’re talking 1987 Celtics vs Lakers, here). And the Warlocks aren’t about to let some prize specimen die off because some local barber-surgeon wasn’t up to the task of administering proper concurrent treatment. You find one really good person; they guide you to the rest. And, in that sense, i really haven’t given enough credit to Radiation Oncologist, Radiation Nurse, and the radiation techs down here. Again, I try not to write about other people, because I can only frame this whole thing from my own experience, but, just as I’d instantly recommend Northern California Hospital for the neurosurgery and neurooncology, these folks are the radiation dream-team. I’m only going to get one course of radiation treatment for my noggin - that’s the maximum number per customer, per lifetime, thanks for playing - but if I got some sort of lung cancer or leukemia or something similar tomorrow; I would absolutely see these folks for that. They get my wholehearted endorsement for all your medically-related Hiroshima needs (I am literally betting my life on that statement).
And, a part of ensuring access to the very best professionals is letting them know their efforts are appreciated. Do not, for one moment, believe that my doctors - or any decent doctor - will let a patient die out of some petty sense of gratitude or debt; but, at the same time, any time anyone in life does you a favor, you make them aware of your gratitude. Don’t wait ten years to buy your mentor a Ferrari because they helped you get a great internship that may lead to a career - turn around, shake their hand enthusiastically, and buy them a beer RIGHT NOW. Again, the future is a sucker’s bet; let people who help you along the way know how grateful you are immediately. Even if all you can do is say “Thank you.” This should be a basic rule of human civilization, right up there with the Girl Scout Cookie Rule (”Whenever you see Girl Scouts selling cookies, you pull over and buy a box, goddammit”). They’ve already helped you once, they might be able to do it again in ten minutes. You’re going to want them there in ten minutes.
Again, a bit of further self-rationalization about the existence of this weird set of disparate chronicles (the blog, I mean); I will admit to a broad education and being highly-educated in a few fields, I can do many things pretty well, I can do very many things decently; there’s a lot of stuff I don’t do well. For me, writing has always been the one thing I can do consistently brilliantly - and you can do it, too, reader; all you have to do is read and write a lot (30-years’-worth, in my case). I don’t have long enough to do many things well; I only have a few years to perfect one simple thing. Which is why this sort of writing task appeals to me - I’m not a wealthy or influential man, but I can write you one helluva good thank-you note. I will admit that I may emphasize or deemphasize certain aspects of my stories, and I will occasionally exaggerate things, or add (or subtract) context to make them a little more readable - I will stand behind every word of this next bit. And, again, I realize I haven’t consistently given credit to the radiation team, but it wasn’t until I sat down to write this thing that I realized just how much they’d done for me. I talk about good physicians and medical providers, but it wasn’t until the other night that I realized the definitive measure of a medical practitioner’s quality is that they will enable you to weather a shit-storm of illness and make the whole thing seem innocuous and unmemorable as it’s happening.
So, this was the thank-you letter I gave to everyone this afternoon, the grand finale of the radiation course (again, this is the first and last one I’ll ever get):
To the staff, faculty, physicians, residents, students, nurses, technicians, receptionists, and anyone else I've forgotten; Thanks again, for everything you've done for me over the last 30 treatments. I still have a year of chemo and experimental treatment ahead of me, so this is just the start, for me. I've survived three brain tumors over the course of 16 years, because I've always insisted on having access to the very best medical professionals and care available. I've been operated on by one of the finest neurosurgeons in the country. I've been in hospitals staffed by the best-ranked nursing teams. I have [PROFESSIONAL REFERENCE/NOD TO MAD SCIENTIST] consulting on my care. So you can believe me when I say, you guys are second to no one in this profession. I have been consistently amazed at your skill, warmth, cheer, dedication, and generosity. Not just on my behalf, but everyone I've seen you interact with. Oncology professionals tend to work in the darker parts of the human experience, but every one of you brings a bit of light to this endeavor. That light is sometimes the weird blue radioactive hallucination-light burning across the optic nerve, but we can't always be picky. From your willingness to work around my admittedly-weird schedule, and patiently indulging my surlier moments of existential panic; to tracking down residents to answer any random technical, hypochondriac question I might have (and thanks to the residents who talked me through that); to putting up with my cheesy song requests; I have been in awe since week 1. And you kept it up, all the time, for all six weeks, which is a staggering display of endurance. We live in a harsh world, where compassion, kindness, and intelligence aren't always immediately recognized or tangibly rewarded, but we must never lose conviction that those are the most powerful and important human qualities. Although kindness and mercy may go unrecognized, they are never wasted, ever. You fine folks are the walking exemplars of that faith. Speaking for all of your patients, allow me to say, that adherence to gentleness and decency has a power on us that you can not begin to imagine. This is just the starting line for my treatment and story (I hope); but you've given me the very best start I could have hoped for. I have a long fight ahead of me, but, thanks to you, I think I can do it.

Nissan, Cadillac, Fiat: The Worst Cars of 2019
(Bloomberg) –What makes a bad car the worst car isn’t often about just one bad thing. It’s usually a mix of several near-misses wrapped into a poorly designed or over-priced package, one that doesn’t even live up to the automaker’s own promises about the car—whatever those may be.
On Thursday I wrote about the best cars of 2019. That list included Italian supercars, futuristic electric sportscars, and one incredible station wagon.
Today, I’ll tell you about the worst.
Let’s start with the Nissan GT-R Nismo. Yes, it has a cult following. (At least, that’s what I’m told—the company declined to specify whom exactly the buyers are.) And it has a laudable pedigree as the descendent of Japan’s most iconic sports car, the Nissan Skyline GT-R. It is a favorite of video gamers worldwide. But the one I drove in November felt both thinly built and badly designed. Chief among them: An oversized rear wing best left on a F1 track, eye-jarring proportions in the rear, taillights that look like they’re from 10 years ago, and the general squareness of a Rubik’s cube. (Another winner for worst graphics/spoiler combination: The $187,500 Jaguar XE SV Project 8, which I would describe as an expensive way to look cheap.)
Some of that could be forgiven, but at $210,740, the GT-R Nismo is ridiculously expensive—it costs as much as the Bentley Continental GT, but is nowhere near as well-apportioned, or comfortable, or even as fun to drive. To all but the most exacting professional drivers, the GT-R Nismo is indistinguishable from the GT-R Track ($145,540) and the GT-R 50th Anniversary Edition ($123,00). Trust me, it’s likely that neither you nor I have the thousands of track-day hours and training to tell the difference.
Bloat can come in many forms, though. Take the Fiat 500L. Fiat has a century-plus, beloved history that mushroomed when those endearing little go-getters populated Italy during the 1960s and ‘70s. La dolce vita indeed. But the modern version is nowhere near as lovable. For starters, Fiat has expanded the 500 range to include four-door offerings like the 500L it advertises as “equipped for anything, especially fun.”
But to make it practical for daily life, the model costs much more than the $22,160 base model price. The one I tested last spring cost an extra $5,000 after the add-ons required to make it feel close to the spunky and “ready for fun” attitude the brand promises. Those extras included relatively simple additions, too, like dual-zone climate control, power-operated seats, sunroof, a decent sound system, an auto-dimming rear mirror, and a chrome “appearance” kit, which paints the wheels and exterior with silver accents. Fiat leverages the chic, luxury association of its brand and Ferrari-owning parent company, but with the 500L it falls short of delivering on that élan.
All of this would be fine, I suppose, if the car drove well. It could be like a little rally car, or even like a cool and minimal Mini. Even an ugly rally car, like the MG Metro 6R4, would suffice. (That one along with its Group B brethren make this list in the Ugly category—yes, I know, the cars are incredible to drive, but you can’t deny that these fall into the so-ugly-they’re-cute category. Like Baby Yoda.)
Instead, the 500L offers an anemic 160-horsepower inline-four-cylinder engine and six-speed automatic transmission. The turbo has lags, the steering is indefinite, and the braking feels blasé. No manual version is available, more’s the pity. It all leaves me to question, when there are so many other similar vehicles for this price tag that are better—a Mini Countryman or a Subaru Outback come to mind—why anyone would buy a Fiat 500L at all.
One car I didn’t drive still makes this list: the 1939 Type 64. But I stood by as its engine started, after 10 minutes of coaxing in a Big Sur back lot, and was there when it rolled onto the sale block, and it makes for an amazing story. If you read one auction deep-dive this year, make it this one.
Here’s the short version: RM Sotheby’s lists a car Ferdinand Porsche built for the Nazis, labels it the first Porsche, and ratchets up the hype with a pricing estimate of $20 million, a sum that would make it the most expensive Porsche ever sold. But a few vintage aficionados contest the claim, noting that while the silver, space-ship-looking machine is a precursor to the Porsche-badged cars built in Zuffenhausen, Germany, a decade later, it is not a true Porsche. (The fact it has a VW engine and Fiat components, among other suppliers, didn’t help matters.)
Then, on the night of the sale—during the premier Saturday night time slot, during the most glamorous auction week in the world—the car rolls onstage and the auctioneer starts his wind-up. Bidding goes wild, hitting $70 million … then stops altogether. Then restarts at $17 million. That’s if bidding happened at all—yet another source of controversy. (The auctioneer said at the time he had made a mistake pronouncing bids.) The crowd boos. The car fails to sell, then disappears into the shadows. You couldn’t make this up if you tried.
Lastly, a word about Cadillac. This one is more of a holding spot than a demerit on an actual car. Since, you see, there was no exciting new car.
In 2017, I took a 1960 El Dorado through upstate New York as part of a digital detox. That lovely thing with crimson interiors glided down back roads like a pearlescent dream. I want back in. The time before that was in 2016, when I drove the Cadillac CT6 sedan. At the time, I wrote it was a “gentle, inoffensive” sedan; I mentioned some yawning at one point.
In 2018 GM said it planned to end production of six cars at North American plants, including the CT6 sedan, then later said that one would remain in Cadillac’s U.S. lineup, though some variants like the CT6 Sport would end. The back-and-forth is not encouraging; it reminds me of the way that Harley-Davidson—another American heritage brand—has struggled with an electric motorcycle.
After Cadillac announced plans in January to make a crossover electric vehicle, the brand debuted two new sedans, two new variants of existing sedans, and a new midsize crossover SUV. Nothing terribly exciting. It launched a website for online shopping and teased a new electronics screen for the next generation of the Escalade, which is expected in February. On Dec. 17, the company said it will skip the 2020 Consumer Electronics Show in January where it had planned to show off the EV crossover.
Instead, what made bigger news for the company in 2019 was everything other than its cars, which is a bad sign for a company that makes cars. It recalled 900,000 vehicles because of battery and brake issues. It got sued for failing to warn people about headlight defects. It announced a replacement campaign for the “Dare Greatly” tagline, which has disappointed.
If it all feels very much like meet the new boss, same as the old boss, that’s because it is. For the eighth time in 20 years, Cadillac appointed a new CEO this year. Its own former top officer and brand bastion, Bob Lutz, railed publicly against it: “I don’t think there are enough decades left in the branded automobile business as we know it to achieve a comeback,” Lutz said.
This isn’t to say that Cadillac isn’t entitled to a quiet year to regather itself, make some painful cuts, and renew its own reserves. GM boss Mary Barra has proven she’s comfortable taking the long view, slashing now where she must in favor of building toward sustainable growth later. Next year, Cadillac promises, we can expect that updated new Escalade and more information about the EV crossover. It has promised an array of new models (granted, they’re as distant into the future as Ursa Minor), and brand president Steve Carlisle has even said most Cadillac vehicles will be electric by 2030. Maybe Lutz will have to eat his words.
But we are talking about 2019 right now, where we are left waiting for America’s greatest heritage brand to give us something—anything—great to drive. In the meantime, I suggest you try one of these.

Motor racing: IndyCar a
MONTREAL (Reuters) – McLaren are strongly considering entering the IndyCar championship, with speculation that a team could be tailor-made for Fernando Alonso if the Spaniard decides to leave Formula One.

McLaren Racing’s chief executive Zak Brown has made no secret of the British team’s interest in recent weeks and was in Detroit for last weekend’s IndyCar race. IndyCar team owner Michael Andretti was also in the McLaren pits on Saturday.
Brown said plans were progressing and he expected to make an announcement in coming months on whether McLaren would have a team in place for the 2019 IndyCar season.
“We’re seriously considering IndyCar, we have been doing due diligence for quite some time,” Brown told reporters following Saturday qualifying.
“As stated before if we are going to get into other forms of motorsport we need to do it in a way that doesn’t compromise our Formula One activities or we won’t consider it.
“It needs to be commercially viable, something we feel we can be competitive in and fits our brand.
“It has to tick all those boxes.
“We are not done with our due diligence yet but it is looking favorable so we’ll take a decision in order to be prepared for 2019 some time in the coming months.”
Double world champion Alonso competed in the Indianapolis 500 last year in an effort connected to Andretti Motorsport, leading the race before an engine failure ended his involvement.
The Spaniard, now 36, has made winning the ‘Triple Crown of Motorsport’ a target and is competing in the Le Mans 24 Hours sportscar race in France next weekend with Toyota.
If he wins that, his focus will turn Stateside again.
The Triple crown is Indianapolis, Le Mans and, as far as Alonso is concerned, the Monaco Grand Prix, although it was originally held up as the F1 world championship.
The debate is academic for Alonso, who has won both of the F1 elements anyway and is entering his 300th Grand Prix this weekend — also the 50th anniversary of McLaren’s first F1 win.
McLaren won Indianapolis in 1974 and 1976 with Johnny Rutherford.
“The Triple Crown is an attractive target because it is so difficult to achieve. These are the three biggest races in the world of motorsport,” Alonso told Sky Sports television.
“I don’t want to just be a good driver, I want to be a complete driver and hopefully the best driver in the world.”
It has been five years since the Spaniard’s last F1 win with Ferrari after taking both his titles with Renault, and the prospects of a return to the top of the podium remain distant.
While Alonso wants to be recognized as an all around driver, he has insisted at every opportunity that he is not done with the glamour series despite McLaren’s struggles.
McLaren and Alonso continue to have talks about a new contract and Brown hopes the Spaniard will remain with the team, though he refused to speculate whether that would be with Formula One, IndyCar or both.
“He’s been doing Formula One a long time and I think he is enjoying driving as much as he ever has,” said Brown. “I think he is driving better than he ever has.
“He is a bit frustrated with Formula One being more of constructors championship than a drivers championship.
“But he loves Formula One, loves world endurance so hopefully we will keep Fernando in the McLaren environment in some way shape or form.”

Ticking to the Beat of Luxury - Baselworld 2017
Whenever visiting Switzerland for business, I am impressed by the rigour and commitment that the Swiss demonstrate towards professionalism, finesse, perfection and their immense sense of pride. With so many luxury brands making up its 41,285 km² it truly is incredible with what this population with its orderly ‘clockwork’ attitude has been able to produce.
It takes a certain ‘je ne sais quoi’ to deliver what the Swiss seamlessly manage to do and Baselword is no exception throughout the years of its splendid existence. One hundred years to be exact.
As one of the world’s most unique jewellery and watch shows gets underway, all eyes are on the key players from the sector who contribute to what is arguably, the most brilliant industry in the luxury world.
Maintaining your sparkle in an ever-competing world of priceless gems
One may ask, how is it that this industry manages to thrive in its ever competitive world? The answer is pretty simple in stating but perhaps a little more complex in delivering. Succeeding is reinventing, renewing, adapting, modernising and continuously transforming, constantly reflecting an ever-changing market.
That is why Baselworld presents itself as the most opportune place to be and certainly not everyone makes the cut thanks to extremely stringent criteria that remain locked up behind the closed doors of the show’s secretive committee.
Being at Baselworld is a testament in itself and is by far the most successful PR exercise you could imagine to get your name out in the open. A costly affair for sure but when you compare it with the B2B shows in yachting or aviation for example, I believe that the number of media that attend and actually distribute the news they discover, is by far more impressive with guaranteed ROI.
Mr Eric Bertrand, President of the Exhibitors’ Committee furthered the importance of the show, “it’s an opportunity to present innovations and creations to the most influential and eminent retailers and media around the world.” Over and above that, “we know from experience that the new collections presented as a world premiere at Baselworld will make the news for the next 12 months and that the trends that emerge here will spread throughout the world.”
Uncertainty in the market
Behind the towering exhibition structures, countless kilometres of shine blinding the eye and prim and proper presentation boxes, undoubtedly, the global political and economic context remains difficult today and shows. Several questions raised at the press conference referred to the shaky grounds of confidence since years of peak and troughs in the volatile luxury curb, especially of course for all that shines bright and offers a similarly luminous price tag.
Offering a glitter of hope though, Mr Bertrand added that, “these times offer an opportunity for those who have done their job properly in recent years and who have a solid foundation on the market.” He continued by saying that in the past he was surprised by the enthusiasm for watches by the brands that were foreign to the industry, adding that:
"When unfavourable winds blow, the cold reality strikes." -- Mr Eric Bertrand, President of the Exhibitors' Committee
It is therefore no wonder that “some of these brands have had to backtrack, whereas those that have stayed focused and relied on their know-how are still present.” The upshot of this is a consolidation of the market that will benefit the entire branch once the recovery has begun. And Mr Bertrand is confident that “this recovery will enable the best-armed players to gain market share and be more successful than ever before.
When two becomes one
Strategic partnerships too were apparent at the show. Take Moritz-Grossman for example, who have tallied up with RUAG Aviation to deliver the ultimate aircraft owner’s watch. This is a true testament of where tradition meets innovation to pave way through the high waves of competition around them. Innovate to recreate is something I walk away with.
Same with Rebellion Timepieces, who are working hand in hand with über cool Lugaci DriveTime, the exclusive car-as-a-service at it's best to offer each member a limited edition watch that doubles up as the actual key to opening up the car of the dreams for a spin in hard (and sometimes impossible) tracks or road-legal roads.
To then also see the iconic Jean-Claude Biver, CEO and Board Member of Hublot along with my favourite controversial modern day critic, Lapo Elkann, heir to Fiat and Flavio Manzoni, architect and automobile designer for Ferrari stand tall and present their latest collaborations at their press conference, I cannot stop to compare the various industries that Bright Creativity has a foot in the door with. All about working together to tap into the same clientele, just offering more of an experiential marketing offering that the simple look and buy attitude.
So what’s new?
New technology bolsters the durability of “Swiss-made” watches, by enhancing performance and precision. Trends are leaning towards streamlined designs that ensure watches can be worn in different situations. No smart watches though. That’s a big no no according to the organisers (for now at least). Again reminiscing the strictness of their hand-picking attitude.
Between the watch novelties to look out for at the show were among others the OMEGA Speedmaster Moonwatch Automatic Master Chronometer, Breitling Colt Skyracer, Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe, Zenith Heritage 146, Longines Flagship Heritage 60th Anniversary or my ultimate favorite - the Hublot Techframe Ferrari watch.
Exciting times ahead for our wrists then it seems, what's next I wonder...
