a/n: finally im back!! missed writing more than I expected lol also sorry naruto fans I didn't know what to do with him really!! (â  â â§â Đâ âŠâ )
â SILENCE. (FT. GAARA)â
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/3bdf6c84dca95ac9e668a36d0392b4ed/2e0188554d6e5888-ba/s540x810/7e158ccd882748859c73d7df9f105e8265dc6635.jpg)
"You don't have to do this, (Y/N)." Gaara murmurs, resting his arm on the table. You ignore his comment, unraveling a roll of gauze. Sitting there patiently, he watches as you carefully formulate your supplies with precision.
Grabbing a chair next to him, you begin to treat his wound. A large slash down his forearm, yet shallow enough to not cause any substantial issues. But the bleeding alone was enough to make you pout.
Meticulously dabbing a cloth over his wound, not a single word escapes from either one of you. Steady breathing fills the empty silence, a comforting phenomenon that always came along with Gaara. He wasnt the type to speak unless he had to, even then his sentences remained short and meaningful.
Picking up a swab coated in sterile saline, then patting it along the gash, You glance up to check Gaara for any signs of discomfort, an instinct that came along with treating injuries.
Suddenly, your rhythmic movements halt abruptly.
Your eyes meet.
For a moment neither of you move. His cold teal eyes grasp yours, indecipherable but fierce. Almost like he was studying you, memorizing the way your eyebrows furrowed with concentration, the way your eyes squint slightly as you focus. There's no falter nor embarrassed look awayâonly fixed tranquility.
He still doesn't look away.
Gaara isn't the type of person to shy away when he's caught staring, especially if it's something he's infatuated by. Instead his gaze intensifies, as if he's trying to understand somethingâhimself. Why does he feel this odd warmth in his chest every time he's around your vicinity? Why does his heart slow but his breathing quicken as soon as he feels your delicate touch? It's all so new to him.
You catch a glimpse of something that crosses his face. Although hard to catch, you still caught it. A rare tenderness he rarely allowed himself to show.
"...Does it hurt?" You ask gently.
Immediately, his lips part, like he wants to say something. But instead, he simply shakes his head "No. It's fine."
However, his eyes still haven't let you go. At least not yet. Not until you look away first, flustered by his silent potency. And even then, he's still watching, his thoughts unsolvable, his heart struggling to make sense of feelings he's never felt before.
â BIG BABY! (FT. NARUTO) â
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/34e1350917a16894d6013414b6695686/2e0188554d6e5888-bb/s540x810/dc4d0d56a35b1a1a36c4fcabb2e5f0cde743acfe.jpg)
"Ow, ow, OWâ (Y/N), you're killing me!" Naruto whines throwing his head back like he's just been stabbed in the chest.
You glare at him, pressing the antiseptic soaked rag against the scrape on his cheek. "It's just a tiny scratch, you big baby."
"A tiny scratch?... Do you see the SIZE of this thing? I was fighting for my life out there!" He puffs, pointing at the scrape. You sigh loudly, muttering about how ridiculous he is, Naruto crossing his arms childishly at the comment.
Tossing the rag aside, you grab a glass bottle filled with ointment. "You literally get punched through walls, but this is where you draw the line?" You retort, leaning in closer to spread the ointment more precisely
But unknowingly, you closed in the last bit of space between you two, the lack of air making Naruto's brain go fuzzy. Actually, he was completely frozen. Too stunned to speak. His usual goofy demeanour falters for just a moment, his breath pausing as heat rises to his face. He's blinking rapidly, unsure of where to look. He's lost in the way your fingers gently grasp his jaw, tilting his head slightly backwards. And he's fixated on the pacing of your breathing too, feeling the warm air against his cheek.
Fuck. You were way too close. He swallows hard, "Uh..." He scrambles to find his words, for the first time, the Ultimate Knucklehead Ninja is speechless.
You raise an eyebrow, feigning innocence as if the close proximity wasn't a part of your plan. "What? You were just talking a mile a minute, and now you're quiet?" You spit, lips curled slightly as you spread the thick medication across his cheek.
Naruto quickly averts his gaze, sheepishly rubbing the back of his neck. "N-Nothing... Just... uh... you must be really focused, huh?" He lets out a nervous chuckle, trying to slow down the sudden pounding in his chest.
Rolling your eyes, you twist the cap back onto the bottle. Adjusting himself on the couch, Naruto tries to retrieve his cool, as if his face weren't a bright tomato red. You continue patching Naruto up, still bickering back and forth with him. Only this time, he seemed to be a bit more jittery and shaky with his responses.
But later, when you're finished and packing away your supplies, you swear you hear him mumble something under his breath. Something that makes you smile not matter how much you stifle it back.
"Man... I think I just feel for you even harder..."
â STUBBORNESS (FT. SASUKE) â
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/c08d21460ced12d3be7cb628e8f3b1ca/2e0188554d6e5888-bc/s540x810/ef97238ddf29c26e27fe3af2404493346815a7e2.jpg)
"I'm fine."
You exhale sharply, ignoring Sasuke's regular resistance. Placing a cloth over the gash and then applying mild pressure, you attempt to stop the bleeding from his neck. "You're bleeding, Sasuke."
He doesn't flinch, nor does he wince. Instead he's just sitting there, stuff but compliant. His arms are crossed, like this whole situation was just some minor inconvenience. Of course. It wasn't unusual for Sasuke to act so detached, always pretending to be unaffected yet his body always said the opposite.
You shake your head, "Just let me help, okay?"
Sasuke sighs through his nose, but doesn't dispute with you any further. That was the most compliance you'll ever get out of him.
The wound on his neck wasn't deep, simply messy. Dried blood strips near the opening, and despite his bluffed collectiveness, you could tell he's exhausted. It wasn't uncommon to see Sasuke injured, oftentimes training tirelessly, or engaging with enemies he underestimated way too much. But this time, you could tell he wasn't just worn out physically.
Too lost in your thoughts, you accidentally prod the cloth a bit too harshly, making him tense up for a moment. Not a flinch, but you swore you heard his breath quietly hitch.
"Sorry," you murmur.
Sasuke though, doesn't say anything. But as you continue, grabbing other materials, you treat his wounds with extra care. Fingers grazing his skin with gentleless, you begin to notice something. His breathing slows. His once taut shoulders are now relaxed under your touch.
He isn't just tolerating this, but he's allowing it.
There's something strangely intimate about this silence. Perhaps it's the way, you're the only one he lets close like this.
Then you feel it. His gaze locked on you.
Holding the gauze in your hand, you pause.
"Sasuke?"
But still, no answer.
You peek up at him, expecting his eyes to rush away like they always do, but he doesn't. His distant black eyes are now fixated on you, unreadable, steady, yet softer than usual. They lacked their usual sharpness, but instead grew of quiet observation.
The sight sends your heart into your throat.
"...What?" You ask, voice barely above a whisper.
He blinks, laggard and calculated. His lips part ever so slightly, like he's about to speak but he doesn't. Instead, after a moment, he exhales and mutters, "Nothing."
Taking in his answer, you continue on with patching him up. But his gaze lingers, still focused on you. Even after you finish patching him up. Because as he stands to leave, his lips part open again, like there's something on his chest that's dying to come out.
And then, he turns away, his voiceâlow and nearly inaudible.
"...You don't have to worry about me so much."
â GENTLE (FT. SHIKAMARU) â
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/0b7ff79038c7143892df165f93b05aad/2e0188554d6e5888-4d/s540x810/0f504eeaeb13af5878e5eb9ed652aad3b6f5ad37.jpg)
"This is such a drag..."
Shikamaru groans, resting his head against the wall as you kneel beside him, tending to the slash across his chest. He's always complaining and always acting like everything takes up so much of his precious energy. But he hasn't moved an inch since you've started.
"You say that like I'm the one who got you hurt," you mutter, blotting a rag over his wound.
A long and slow breathe escapes his lungs, "Tch. Guess that's fair."
His voice is low and sluggish, like sitting here was simply exhausting. Despite having a fresh injury, he seems to be half asleep. Typical. You should've expected him to act like this was more tiring than the actual fight.
"Hold still," you say, pressing a bandage against his skin tightly.
Shikamaru doesn't even flinch. Doesn't really react at all, reallyâexcept for the way his eyes flicker downwards watching the way your fingers dance over his chest, you brows knitting together in silent concentration.
You don't notice at first, only until the silence begins to grow way too suspicious.
You glance up, only for him to be looking back at you.
You waver, gripping the roll of bandage.
"What?"
But, he only blinks at you, hushed but calculated, unbothered at the fact you just caught him staring. In his eyes, there's no sign of embarrassment nor instant divergence. Just quiet deliberate eyes, like he's studying a foreign topic.
"You're being weird," you comment, focusing your attention to bandaging him up.
Shikamaru's lips twitch into a lazy smirk. "Nah. Just thinking."
"Thinking about what?"
He pauses, and so do you. His eyes dart towards somethingânot away but lower, to where your hands are still resting on his chest, rising up and down as he breathes.
"You're pretty gentle," he murmurs.
Your breath catches to the back of your throat. But before you can respond, he leans his head back again, shutting his eyes like he's done speaking.
Shaking off the unexpected heat in your cheeks, you huff "You say that like you expected me to be rough."
"Didn't say that," He mutters, eyes still shut.
"Then?"
He exhales a small tired sigh. And then without opening his eyes:
"I think I could get used to this"
Your hands still for half a second, but he doesn't say anything else. Instead he lets the silence between you two settle, as if it were meant to be there.
And when you finally pull back, he doesn't move right away.
Like he's in no rush to leave your touch.

He always felt the safest in Sephiroth's arms.
It was an almost inexplicable kind of comfort, an almost etheral kind of calm. It was stability, protection, escape; shelter, security, and respite. It was gentle heat and gentle pressure, two forces that ribboned into one, wrapping around him like two velvet anchors amidst a roaring sea.
When he was in Sephiroth's arms, nothing could harm him. No sickness could afflict him, no weather could hurt him, no phantoms could plague him with the past or future or present. Time became nebulous in his cherished friend's embrace, fading into a gentle mist, dissolving into a warm haze. Everything became Nothing, and Nothing became Everything. The world tapered down, became an island, became their own mirage of a place; private, unreachable, unbreakable.
When he was in Sephiroth's arms, there was no ShinRa.
There were no copies.
There were no wings.
There were no monsters.
Just warmth, and heat, and something beautifully intangible, something beautifully profound.
Something almost magical.
Healing.
It hadn't always been like this, with their trust so ironclad, their bond so deep and unwavering. There were instead time wherein it had been tumultuous, shaken, and almost shattered entirely. Times when wounds were still raw and bleeding, when harsh words were weaponized, when fights and arguments had broken out like a war, stretched on like a crusade.
But those battles had eventually come to an end, when both he and Sephiroth were left more aching than before, left alone and wounded and betrayed. And it was during That Time wherein they had not only come to understand their pain, but had come to understand each other's, coming to understand the craters Angeal had created in their lives were one and the same: The same shape, the same depth, the same burning, lonely ache...
And, maybeâjust maybeâthat they each had the capability of making each other whole again.
He would never forget the night Sephiroth had visited his quarters, found him drenched in dispair, mourning over the Buster Sword...
It was first time Sephiroth had ever embraced him, and it was the first time that Zack had melted into it.
It was the first time he had felt safe in a long, long, while.
From there, everything had blossomed, those poisonous feelings cleansed by the antidote of their burgeoning friendship. Periodic visits turned into frequent hanguots; simple, work-related interactions bloomed into endless chats, movies, and games. Days didn't feel so strenulously long anymore, as did missions start feeling fulfilling again. Deceased emotions like enjoyment and satisfaction were revived in blazing colors, rising like a phoenix to restore both their faiths in the world, in their own extinguished spirits.
And while their faith in the company may have grown more dubious, their own trust had strengthed, hardened into steel. Diamond.
It was precious.
Sephiroth knew that Zack would never betray him, and Zack held the same unyielding belief in Sephiroth. He knew that the man would never hurt him, never raise his blade at him, never use his hands for harm. He knew that those arms would never asphyxiate him; he knew they would never trap him, smother him. He knew they were only used to capture wamrth, and he graciously shared that warmth with him, keeping his heart alight. He uaed his strength to rein in the Sun, and he did it just for Them.
Yawning contently, Zack closed his eyes, nuzzling deeper into Sephiroth's arms, deeper into the harmless flames.
Sephiroth only held him tighter.

@trustbutvcriify / seth BANDAGE patch them up when they get hurt.
It took a stern voice and her âIf you are intent on protecting me then you first need to take care of yourselfâ line before Seth allowed Eirika to clean and redress his wound. With enough determination - of which he had plenty - Seth could do it himself, but not without aggravating the wound more since it was placed so precariously.
Furthermore, she was the reason for his wound. Upon fleeing castle Renais atop Sethâs horse, Valter had pursued the pair, and it was in defending her from him that Seth was injured.
It was also, if she was being honest with herself, a way to be close to him. As a knight, it was his duty to protect her, and while Seth did not treat her any differently he also did not shy away when she touched him nor did he mind her excuses to spend time with him.
âAt the next town, we can see about finding someone to look at this.â Eirika finished cleaning the wound, but let her hand stray across his muscled shoulder before she pulled away. With all the fighting they did, it wasnât uncommon to find his wound re-opened. It worried her.
Eirika turned to grab the bandages, which was all they had on this march, and indicated for him to lift his arm. Obedient to a fault, he did so, and Eirika got to work.
This was the part that brought her close. When she needed to wrap her arms around him to retrieve the bandage and bring it full circle, when his bare arm steadied her against him, when she pulled the bandage firmly across his muscles. It was all done in silence with their eyes catching the otherâs every so often, holding for a moment too long, all while cherishing these precious few moments they had alone. Before they had to return to the world outside, to being a princess and her knight.

Behind Enemy Lines Pt.1
CW: Torture, Canon-typical violence, talk of derealization, disassociation Summary: You were a friendly medic, captured years ago and held prisoner, forced to do do the bidding of your captors. Years later, a man by the name of Ghost is dragged in and changes the trajectory of your life. A/N: I had severe ADHD, and i am unmedicated rn, and it makes it really hard to work on things unless I get the hyperfocused drive for it, so I'm sorry I'm so bad at making the other parts to my fics. Know that I will never abandon them. it just might take me a while. idea part 2
You fought back, at first. Way back when you first got captured, taken from your base camp and dragged through miles and miles of harsh terrain, blindfolded and bound. A medic you were, yes. But your team had trained you with the best of them. You spent the whole time trying to escape, kicking and screaming until they bound your legs and gagged you. You spent the first month of captivity refusing to talk to them, hissing and spitting and pretending their punches didnât hurt. But it didn't take you long to realize it was better to cooperate, or to at least be civil. Civility got you less broken bones, less pain, more rations, more sleep. Cooperation didnât come till later, when you finally realized your team wasn't coming for youthey were dead but you didn't know that.
Surprisingly, the whole mouth-getting-sewn-shut didn't happen till a couple years in... they were torturing someone, a man who said he had kids and a wife at home, whose only wish was that they left something recognizable of him so they could get some closure. You begged them to stop. Begged them to stop when his wounds became too numerous to count, too much for you to handle. Begged because you started to care for him as he told you about his son and daughter, how they want him home for Christmas(You didn't have the heart to tell him Christmas was 6 days ago) Told them that he would die no matter what you did if they continued. Well, they didn't stop, and he did die... and you found yourself ringing in the new year by being strapped to a table.
âWe warned you to stop talking with him.â They said as they clamped the metal shut over your forehead and chin, holding you in place. âWe told you to not get attached, but since you canât seem to do it on your own, weâll help you.â The feeding tube came 2 weeks later, shoved up your nose when they realized you were starving...they couldn't lose their favorite medic of course.
You stopped paying attention to the passage of time after that, spent most of your days drifting in and out of reality, moving through the motions with a practiced ease. And it would have remained that way, if it wasnât for a man in a skull mask with a team- a family- looking for him.Â
Your first introduction to him ended up with you getting a broken nose. Per usual, you were shoved into the cell, medical kit in hand, ready to fix up whatever damage your captors had done the their poor prisoner.
The mask he had been wearing when you saw him dragged in was gone, and he had a gash that went all the way through his cheek that would need stitching up. You pull out your equipment, moving slowly towards his bleeding face.Â
he headbutted you the moment you got close enough for him to reach, and the crunch of bone and the gush of warm blood followed, not that you noticed. You were still in that dreamlike state, not quite tether to reality in the way you should be. You barely noticed when they tranqued him, and the only reason you didn't finish his stitches is because you passed out too(itâs hard to breathe through a bloody, broken nose)
The next time you approach more carefully, but heâs no trouble. Mostly because they left him completely strapped to the table this time. Today was a rare day, a time when you could actually feel your feet on the ground rather than just see them. You feel bad as you wipe him down, your eyes flicking over the myriad of scars on his body. Whatâs one more you think to yourself as you get to work stitching a stab wound to his thigh. Just barely missed the artery hereâŠthat could have been bad news. Okay tie it off and- there we go. I think the only other thing that need to- oh, is heâŠtalking to me? I should probably pay attention to that.
â-here?â His voice is gravely, though you suppose yours would be too after being tortured. He stares at you expectantly, and you shrug. You donât know what he said, and even if you did, you couldnât answer. You just move to his wrist, snapping the bone back in place. He inhales sharply, but doesnât make an actual sound, which surprises you. But you donât dwell on it, wrapping a bandage around his arm and moving to exit the room.Â
âYâ noâ gânna lemme off?â His voice sounds, âthey said yâ would.â You spin around, staring at him. You're not stupid. And even if yourâŠbosses had said that, you still wouldnât do it. Being trapped in a room with a man who is at least a foot taller than you and looks like he could kill a man with his glare? No thank you.Â
You take a step back, heading towards the door. The man lets out a sound you would barely qualify as a laugh. âSmârt then.â He says to himself, âNoâ gonna be that easy.âÂ
The next time you go in, you can't help but wonder what they want from this man. By now they usually would have killed him off. Oh well, not your job to wonder. You clean him up, splinting the fingers they had broke when he talks to you again.
"why don't y' let me die?" He says, voice just as gravely as before, "Put me outa m' misery?" You don't respond, just keep taping his hand. IT's something you ad asked yourself, right at the beginning. It would be kinder for you to just let your patients die. But you couldn't do it. Partially because you were punished anytime someone died before your captors wanted them to, but also because you were a medic. YOu were there to heal. You couldn't stomach letting someone die by your hand.
"Answer me!" The man snarls, bringing you back to the present, "For god's sake y' never talk, fuckin' mute." You don't respond, of course. Just finish your task and leave him to his thoughts.
Heâs angrier after that time, youâve noticed. The few times you're actually present, heâs fighting you. Usually not with words, but he bucks and doesnât hold still. Heâs tried to grab your medical supplies countless times, and one time you actually had to be pulled out because he jerked his arm while you were stitching him and somehow managed to drive the needle into your own hand. The few times he does actually yell at you, youâre usually not paying attention. You can catch words like âDishonorableâ and âDisgracefulâ. You arenât entirely sure of the context of the words, but you can guess. Youâve treated enough prisoners who think that you are the world's worst human being, a blight to the medical field, to guess what he's trying to tell you.Â
It's funny though, this man so full of hate. Because, for the first time in goodness knows how long, your feet are on the ground, and your head is level. Something about this man, his angry, uncrushed demeanor, even after weeks of torture, stirs emotion in you that you canât quite identify. And maybe you should be grateful, thankful your head is on right, but you're not. You so desperately want to go back to that place of apathy and detachment, where your emotions werenât so strong, were the pains of mishealed bones and poorly healed scars didnât plague your waking moments.Â
Or maybe it wasnât the man- The Ghost, as you found out he was called. Maybe it was the fact that something in the air had changed. The air was electric, charged with tension so thick you could feel it even alone in your cot. They were watching you, you could tell. Could feel their eyes tracking your movements in a way they hadnât since first giving you freedom to move around.Â
You're not sure why. Itâs not like you have anyone to go home to. You were an only child, and your parents had died long before you reached 18. All you had was your team, a team that had seemingly abandoned you. So why would you leave? There was nowhere to go. And yet they watched you. Was it because you were becoming more aware, more grounded then you had been in a long while? Was it the man, Ghost, who had them on edge?Â
The answer came two days later. You were in Ghost's cell again, desperately packing gauze into a gaping hole on his side. You donât know what had happened, but for the first time in years you were dragged from your cell, your captors muttering under their breath in a language you still didnât understand as they thrust you into his cell. Blood was everywhere. Your best guess was that Ghost had been struggling and an instrument had slipped and gouged out a hole in his side. So here you are, packing gauze into the wound as you try to figure out what to do to keep him alive with your rudimentary supplies.Â
You pack another piece of gauze in just as the door goes flying open. Men, dressed in black, wearing the same mask Ghost was, come bursting in.Â
âGet back!â The one in the front yells at you, gun pointed in your face. You shake your head, hands pressed against Ghostâs wound.Â
âNow!â You make a protesting noise, trying to gesture with your chin. The man looks down, eyes widening.Â
âAw shit- are you the medic?â You nod almost desperately. The man looks at you again, staring at your hands. They are shaking, pressed against the wound as you try to keep Ghost from bleeding out.Â
âFix him.â The man snaps. You shake your head and look up at the man, trying to communicate that you need more supplies.Â
âUse your words.â The man gabs the gun at you, indicating he wants you to get on with it. You stomp your foot, shaking your head again.Â
âWhat, what's that supposed..âŠyou canât speak, can you?â You nod, glad he finally got it. The man groans, lowering his gun.
âYouâre coming with us, but you make one wrong move, and I mean one, I will put a bullet through your brain before you can even speak. Got it?â He gestures to the other two men with him, and together you lift Ghost up, carrying him out to safety.
A/N- anyways, here's part one. Sorry if it disappoints anyone

ok but soulmate au with ghost but it's the fucking opposite of rainbows and sunshine. (18+)
you share his trauma. his stress. his anxiety. you do not know who he is, and yet you know the pain of a thousand punches because it's the only feeling he has ever given you. you know the grueling ache of abandonment and the terrible neglect of abuse and the disgusting amalgamation of all your worst nightmares before you even turn 20. everything that he gives you feels aggressive, like it burns, and he only ever gives you reprieve for so long until you just feel it all over again.
it makes you tired. it makes you sick. at first, as a girl, all you wanted to do was comfort him. you wanted to know who he was so you could kiss the cigarette burns that you feel and soak up the blood you know he bleeds.
but as you age, you begin to hate him. you hate him because he does this to you, he hurts you, doesn't he know that he's hurting you? doesn't he know that everything he feels, you feel tenfold, doesn't he know that the terror and the horror of everything he witnesses weighs down your chest, makes you feel like you're drowning over and over and over again?
for a few years into your adulthood, everything is quiet. you feel little except the ache in his back he never tends to, the creak of his knee joints that he refuses to stretch out. you wish you knew him so you could scold him for it, but you curse at a ghost. sometimes you think about doing something to get back at him--you think about carving a FUCK YOU into your arm, about throwing yourself in front of a bus just so he can fucking understand that his entire life is one fucked-up cycle of pain and misery and horror, but you can't bring yourself to do it.
you can't hurt him. you just can't.
and then, the real pain begins. it brings you to your knees, this pain. you scream, you wail, because it feels like you're being carved from the inside-out. your face burns. your chest heaves. you feel like your ribs are breaking, you can't breathe, you claw at the invisible wounds that your soulmate must be wearing, and you beg him to stop, you beg him to let me go--just fucking die already--please, please, please--
those weeks haunt you. the torture he endures, it is branded to you. you wear no scars, and you never lost any blood, but the phantom flesh that you know is gone follows you in your sleep and never shuts up. it talks, it snarls, it eats at your insides. even when he heals, you are never the same. you wake up from nightmares that you know you share with him. you look over your shoulder for the predators you know he has encountered, and you cry yourself to sleep over the loss of something that you can't even decipher because you have no idea who he is or what he buried to feel this way inside.
he's sick. he's twisted. he's a walking corpse, he has no redeemable qualities, he is selfish and mean and cruel, and you hate him, and if it wasn't for the pain that you would feel, the first thing you would do when you saw him is drive something right through his heart to finally stop the undying infection he spreads to everything that he touches.
you know it is him when you finally meet him. you would know him anywhere; youâd know him just by the scars alone who he is because you remember what it felt like when he got them. when you eye the sleeve of tattoos along his left arm--the fucked, shitty, sunburnt art that made it impossible for you to finish your university exams. the faded, grey circles that line the other, ones you recognize being from the burning cigarettes that you would smell when you closed your eyes. and when he removes his mask briefly, you recognize the scar that cuts above his lip and strikes through his eye--that one left you reeling on the bathroom floor particularly loudly. you thought he might be blind if it wasn't for seeing the darkness of both of his eyes.
you start to cry. you start to cry because as soon as he realizes who you are, as soon as you see that flicker of knowing flash across his eyes, all of the hatred and the anger and the poison that plagued you for all this time vanishes. everything you fought so hard to feel, all the misery you wanted to bestow upon him for making your life a living hell, it's gone.
because the universe is cruel, the universe has done what it has done, and it has made this singular person just for you, and against everything you believe, you know that you love him, and you hate yourself for it, and you hate the universe, too.
you have endured. but maybe you endured so he didn't have to. maybe you endured so that he could have this, the feeling that he feels right now, that feeling of sudden relief.
he slides a large hand over his chest, flinching slightly. he blinks, understanding suddenly that he's feeling your joy, your elation. when you shuffle your way over to him, breaching the conversation the men around him are having, you ignore their confused stares as you fling yourself into his chest.
ghost forces you against him, trapping you to him. he practically chokes, tangling a gloved hand into your hair, and you sob into the warm skin of his neck as he hoists you into his arms, into his lap. you don't pay attention to the curious voices around you, you just bury yourself into him and cry. his body is the evidence of all that has happened to him, and you aren't angry anymore because you're relieved.
he's real. he's alive. he's here. he's okay.
when you pull back to look up at him, you blink away the tears that are falling fast down your face. he stares down equally as intensely, drinking in the sight of those big, wet eyes. when he smooths a big hand down your face, he grumbles when he realizes what you are, how you know him.
he never realized this was what he and his soulmate shared. you in your life had never felt pain like he had--he had no idea what he was doing to you. he had no idea what you were surviving at the same time.
he closes his eyes and rests his forehead against yours, and your lips tremble as you cup his cheeks and hold him close.
it feels wrong to feel this kind of comfort, but he does anyways. he thinks, maybe, that perhaps the only reason he survived was because of you.
because there was someone else, far away, that loved him enough to keep him breathing. even when he thought it was over.

what if you and Sevika had a lesbian situationship divorce and she goes on a shimmer bender crashout

content warnings: blood, violence, self-destructive thoughts, uhmm chaotic angst
like she just doesnât stop using it. she has a belt full of Shimmer cartridges and uses three at a time whether sheâs fighting or just needs a kick, an escape. Â
uses it even when she goes to the brothel and just picks any girl who looks remotely like you. she sees you in the sky, hears your voice echo through the streets, feels your hands on her skin when sheâs in the gardens, thinks if she closes her eyes she can almost believe the girl sheâs with is actually you. calls out your name huskily when she comes. hates herself for it but canât stop the cycle. and she always fucks on Shimmer, rushing through her veins. making everything dizzy and hot.
she does it even more because she remembers how you always scolded her for using Shimmer, saying it would eventually destroy her. a part of her wants to destroy herself for leaving you. a part of her hopes youâll save her before she does.Â
one night she gets caught up in a street fight and takes on like ten muggers at once. they have knives and masks and want her Shimmer supply, she laughs with the freedom of a woman who has lost all hope. last thing she remembers is thinking, âoh, babyâs not gonna like this.â
you hear a bang on your door in the middle of the night and you jump out of your half-sleep, a knife in your hand. youâre so sure the enforcers finally found you and you know youâre not going down without a fight. you open the door, gripping the blade so tight your palm aches. but there are no enforcers. itâs just Ran, their eyes wide and desperate. theyâre propping up a lifeless figure, knees nearly buckling under the weight. Sevika.Â
your first thought: Oh Janna. Iâve lost her.Â
the knife falls to the floor with a clatter. you open the door wide enough to let Ran in, more dragging Sevika than walking her. you cast a swift look up and down the street to make sure they had no unwanted company following them, then you shut the door firmly and run over to help Ran prop Sevika in a chair.Â
âI was gonna take her to Singed,â Ran explains. âbut do you know what she said? âfuck Singed. iâm not going to Singed.âÂ
Ran looks at you. âshe told me to take her to you, or let her bleed out in the street.âÂ
you fall to your knees in front of Sevika, and you try to keep your hands from shaking as you inspect her. sheâs in bad shape. her mech arm is broken and shimmer leaks out from its wires onto the floor. her shirt is torn and bloody. her face is darkened with bruises and blood, but even in this state youâre confident that whatever she did to the goons that attacked her was ten times worse.Â
she stirs awake, half-conscious. grey eyes look up at you in a haze. you wish she hadnât. you wish she just stayed unconscious. because now that sheâs giving you those eyes you canât even remember why you were angry, you canât even remember the emotion itself.Â
you want to cling to even the memory of being angry at her, just so you donât fall apart looking at her like this.Â
âhelp me move her to the bed,â you tell Ran, and together you prop Sevika up again and lay her down on your bed. you barely notice the Shimmer staining your clothes, all you can see is the shallow rise and fall of her chest.Â
âi can take it from here,â you tell Ran. âthanks.âÂ
âjustâŠkeep her alive.âÂ
when Ran is gone, you set to work cleaning the wounds. the cuts arenât as deep as you feared, only one - a gash across her right forearm -Â needing stitches. Sevika stirs and groans just as you finish dressing the cuts. she mutters something. you lean in close and hear her whispering your name.
âi gotta tell herâŠâ Sevika trails off. âi gotta tell her iâm sorry.âÂ
something fails in your heart when you hear this. you smooth her hair out of her eyes and kiss her forehead.Â
âiâm right here, you idiot.âÂ
Sevikaâs eyes open and rest on your face. and youâre thinking fuck, fuck. whatever she did or said to hurt you didnât come close to the sharp pain of seeing her expression relax, her eyes soften with relief. you take her face in your hands, rubbing her cheek with your thumb.Â
âiâm sorry, too.â

A Kiss For Loyalty
masterlist
young!silco x gn!reader [1.2k][AO3]
summary: You find him after the attack on the bridge, and you're left to figure out how to tread the fragile state of him.
tags: young silco, a few hours after vander tries to drown him, angst, established relationship, hurt silco, not betad
a/n: mid-lecture we were looking at photos of gash wounds and i couldn't help but think of young silco's face fresh after the drowning, so ofc i had to write a comfort fic for him. kinda comfort. it's mostly angst.
Vander couldnât look you in the eye, couldnât form a single word. And at first, worry was what overtook youâSilco hadnât survived, lost in the fight. But the more you looked at the larger man who had returned, the more you recognised something else: the aftereffect when heâd had too much to drink, had raised his voice, had felt guilty. Regret.
You find Silco in your bedroom, curled up on the worn mattress that had held you both some countless nights. It had overheard the visions for your new nation, the sloppy passion of drunken evenings, the quiet rise and fall of breaths during winter. Now itâs witnessing something new.
Youâve never heard Silco cry. Your bedroom shrinks at the sound of it, as if the corners darken and round themselves to hold and hush him. Itâs a sharp sting, an undeniably pained cry bleeding into his palm, cupped around his mouth.
When you approach, youâre silentâassessing, investigating, worrying if this isnât something you can fix. Heâs never been so evidently broken. Youâre not sure whether itâs about Vander or at the failure of their uprising, both of which had taken a large portion of his heart.
âSilco?â you whisper, taking another step forward.
âDonât,â he manages, his sobs becoming quieter, but affecting his breath, bubbling out of him in squeaks and chokes. âPlease,â
You shake your head, keeping your ground but keeping your eyes on him. Heâs refusing to remove his reddened hands from his face, his hair curtaining over his left side, black, wet strings.
âYouâre hurt,â you furrow, focusing on the blood down his hand. You rush forward, chest attempting to wrangle in a frenzied heart. âShow me, hey, Sââ
âStop!â he inches away from you, a childlike recoil that makes you freeze.
Itâs a foreign behaviour, a desperation heâs never worn, never come close to mimicking. As far as youâve known him heâs been the opposite. Even in pain, he stitched together a composure so convincing it made others doubt he could ever truly feel the hurt he was raised around.
You suppose that itâs something heâs worked on, refined throughout the years after taking on the responsibility of becoming Zaunâs face, alongside Vander. His ideologies had spilled straight from his heart into your ear. You understood why he worked so hard to maintain a strong face.
That man was gone; he hadn't entered the room this time.
Heâs hiding, you see, shielding his face from you. This, you understand, is something he thinks may spare you from even a fraction of the pain he must be feeling. Heâs always been so. To hoard the suffering and smile.
âYou donât want me to see you?â you ask, kneeling by the bed and retracting your hands.
Silco doesnât answer, the chokes of suppressed sobs the only sound from him.
âItâs alright,â with a shake of your head, you turn around, facing the other way and leaning against the bed. âI donât have to see you. Just⊠just talk to me,â
You wait a beat, then another, waiting for his voice, willing his voice to regard you again. Anything with a meaning that you could warp into a sign of hope.
âPlease,â you add. Itâs unintentionally desperate, pleading, giving him the power of controlling where the conversation goes. Something he needs, you suppose, something heâs certain is still predictable.
You hear a sharp breath behind you, then the shuffle of your bedsheets. Your eyes slide the farthest they can without turning your head, attempting to see any glimpse of him.
Then his hand enters your periphery, pale skin against scarlet, fingers twitching and shaking as his forearm rests on your shoulder.
You take gentle hold of his hand, turning it this way and that in search for wounds. But nothing. âWhoâŠâ your breath escapes, âIs this your blood?â
âYes,â he responds, a word that pricks at your lungs sharply.
You see the moment clearer now. A wound so deep that to reveal it is its own pain.
You recall Vanderâs face. The shame that distorted his features, how ugly it becomes as you try to piece together the fragmented pieces.Â
âVander did something,â you surmise. Your breath quickens, a sneer creating brackets around your flared nostrils. âDid Vander do something?â
You feel Silcoâs breath near the top of your head, but before youâre able to turn, a weight settles over you. Momentarily, you hold, letting the firmness of his muscles process on your body, around your shoulders, his other arm snaking over your bones and holding you backwards to him.
You hear his soft sniffs over your head and slightly to one side, the bone of his cheek pressing against your crown.
There it is again. Itâs a spear through your body, the sound of him. It strikes a fissure along your lungs, each sudden inhale a crack veining in your airways, each tremoring breath he takes an earthquake on your skull. Vander, what have you done?
You take his hand and hold it to your cheek, the cool back of his hand against the warm apple of your face. You interlace your fingers, a familiar practice, just as fluid as the locking of legs in the night, or the pressing of palms for a prayer.
Next was the chaste kiss on his index knuckle, for loyalty. Then on the middle knuckle, for liberty. Another on the ring knuckle, for luck. And lastly, a kiss on the pinky knuckle, for love.
It was a silent conversation he and you had made, meeting mouth to bone always easier than devoting a voice to each word.
His other hand wrapped around your wrist, bringing your arm upwards and over your head, your own knuckles meeting his familiar lips. But they tremble.
He breathes a kiss, gentle, on your index knuckle, starting, then failing. His breath falls jagged on your skin.
For a moment he restarts, the warmth of his air hovering over your knuckle. But again he fails.
Your frown deepens. Even more so when he moves your hand and skips to your pinky knuckle, the only promise fulfilled.
âHow bad is it?â your voice slightly muffles against his hand near your mouth.
He swallows, clearing his throat. âAt the⊠we were at the river, heââ he grips your hand slightly tighter.
âItâs still hurting?â
His clothes shuffle. âYeah,â
âLet me look?â
Silence.
You start to think heâll reject you again, not yet prepared to face you in whatever shape Vander had left him. But he loosens his arm around your shoulders and moves away, his presence at your back fading.
Your other hand remains in his, the anchor, as you shift on the floor and turn.
You look up and your eyes meet. No. One eye meets yours.
You sense his panic by how the one remaining blue jumps between your eyes, tips of his mouth downwards. He brushes aside his wet hair.
The left side of his face had been marred, a trench of exposed muscle, skin, and blood bared at you. The blackened sclera is haunting, a flame moving in tandem with the watery blue of his other eye.
Youâre more than certain thereâs nothing but indignation gushing through your veins. Yet, Silco remains beautiful. You realised a long time ago it was difficult for him to not be, no matter the state of him. And still now, left eye diseased with the molten of betrayal, mouth frowned by grief, fear in his good eye.
âItâs not over,â he whispers, leaning forward as you reach up and cup the unmarred side of him. âWeâll take back Zaun,â
There he is. No man, no river, could ever kill him. âYouâll show them,â you press a kiss to his index knuckle.

PUPPY PHAINON IS SO REAL OMG
i think it be so funny (extremely sexy) if he goes absolutely feral because his love got hurt on the battlefield
i'm talking absolute carnage, not a soul alive, people being genuinely scared because wtf man (bonus if his partner only got a minor flesh wound hehe)
Your lover has been acting... strange recently.
Though, the abnormalities have been so conveniently spaced, so intertwined with inconveniences that they could be brushed off as mere coincidences â in hindsight, at least. You'd be found guilty of this practice, as it becomes second nature to assume the best of people that can bear one's trust. There appears the occasional incident, where you find yourself second guessing that faith instead and question the normalcy of this particular genre of human behavior.
âWill you tell me now, who did this to you, melite?â
You find that you need to use force in order to push down the flinch that almost crawled all over your skin, unaccustomed to this tone of his.
You push yourself closer, your nails dig a bit harder into the fabric covering his arm ; sensing his gaze towards your direction. Your grasp is more labored than it should've been, you can feel the tendons beneath your grip flexing in barely held restraint. Murmurs follow their way to your ear, unintelligible in fear of feeding further the hero's wrath.
âI have been telling you this since the beginning, Phai.â in spite of your effort, exasperation bleeds into your words.
You glance from behind Phainon's shadow â pointedly at that â towards the knuckle tight grip he has on the fellow's skull. âUnfortunateâ probably does not suffice to describe this random pedestrian's situation. You're not given more time to ponder the validity of that claim as something reminiscent of a crack drifts to your ear, alerting you to hasten.
âIt wasn't this man, it wasn't any human to begin with! You have to believe me, please.â you tilt your head and make sure to secure his gaze, ripples of discontent appear on the once placid ocean.
You knew it wasn't exactly unusual for one's protective instincts to be provoked in relation to a loved one, but for it reach this magnitude was concerning in your book. Especially so considering their increasing appearances, over the most mundane matters at that.
The Chrysos Heirs aren't known as without their fair share of eccentricities, you suppose they are suited for ones destined to be heroes. But every new scene over a scratch against a surface, a person standing too close, a different gaze lingering too long has you questioning if Phainon's âprotectivenessâ can really be excused for long.
Perhaps the helplessness in your eyes had finally pushed through the layers of rage bubbling in his head and the contact with your skin had weakened the flames, as he loosens his clasp on the man's head, before shoving him aside with enough force to make you feel the kick of your heart against your ribcage.
You don't get to check the man's condition as Phainon takes your hand in his previously occupied one, his thumb ghosts over the scratch across its back, the swift difference unnerves you for a second.
You know not to waste your breath though, catching the implications. âIt... was that pillar.â you avert your eyes upon feeling his caress halt.
â...Which one?â his curt inquiry alerts you. His fingers flex and relax around yours, you can no longer hear the crowd.
You bypass a breath to grasp his collar, caution clouds your mind. The abruptness of your action startles Phainon, as he meets your frown.
âDonât.â you warn, the realization that makes itself known on his countenance at your order proves your hypothesis to be correct.
âBut that pillar deserves it, melite.â something similar to a pout softens his face and at last you find traces of the Phainon you are so familiar with. âIf it's hurt you once, it will do it again. Isn't it better to just remove it to avoid that scenario?â
You let go of his collar and rest your palm on his cheek, unable to restrain the sigh that escapes your lips, âPhai, the pillar is an inanimate object.â
He leans into your touch, you're certain he would've melted from it had it not been for the embers of his previous fury keeping his senses sharp, âSo?â
You steer yourself away from face-palming, âSo, I'm saying that you shouldn't make more of a scene than you've already had. I just want a peaceful evening with you, okay?â
He blankly stares at you for a moment, digesting each syllable. Only when the âwith youâ reaches his ears does he seem to have sobered up. Phainon nods, taking your hand from his face to press a kiss on the scratch marring the skin. You notice his eyes straying, you would've missed it completely had you not been paying attention â a side-eye towards the fellow now scrambling away.
You've succeeded in preventing any major incident from occuring today, but your power in maintaining the consistency of this endeavor remains uncertain.
I tweaked the scenario a bit because it was funnier in my head orz but overprotective Phainon is so delicious, ty nonnie!

Danny hadn't ever been on this side of the equation before.
He stared at his old phone, the prickle of unease scratching at his neck.
Danny was the one that died. He was the one that died and came back. He'd never asked anyone how it had felt to see him die over and over again to become Phantom. Danny was starting to think that maybe he should have, if only so that he wouldn't be blindsided about what he felt now.
"Danny? Y'okay?"
Danny glanced up at the mumbled words, numbed eyes looking at Jason's sleep-heavy face.
"Hm?"
"Ya've been lookin' at that thing for an hour now. You good?"
Danny blinked at him, like the world was a sea of bittersweet molasses and he was the sailor drowning beneath its waves. "...Remember how I told you that you reminded me of my sister?"
There was apprehension on Jason's face now. It was a gentle kind of apprehension, softened by worry and love.
âYeahâŠ?â
Danny gestured for Jason to come closer. He opened the phone and tapped on Jazz.
âWoah. She kinda looks like me.â Jason tugged at his black hair. âYâknow, if I kept my red hair.â
Danny smiled, sad and tired. âYeah. She really liked reading. And she always wanted to know more. Help more. Like you,â Dannyâs eyes laid on the folded uniform of Robin on the kitchen table. He hugged Jason closer. âYou remind me of her.â
âWhat⊠what happened to her?â
Danny hadnât cried for a long, long time. Even when Jazz spoke to him in half remembered whispers and in Jasonâs actions, he could not shed a tear. But something about today, something about those pictures, opened up a poorly scabbed wound and Dannyâs face dripped with slow tears.
âShe died,â he whispered. âI brought the vigilante life to her and she died protecting me.â
âOh. Thatâs why you were so mad, then.â Jason looked down at the picture, blue eyes tracing the face of the woman that looked so similar to him.
âYeah.â
âI wonât die, Danny,â Jason promised.
"Don't make promises you can't keep, Jay." Danny squeezed Jason's shoulders before wiping away his tears. He inhaled, a slow, shuddering breath, before straightening. "You are so grounded."
"But- Robin!"
"Jason will always come before Robin. And Jason is grounded because Jason lied to me about being Robin and where he was going and whether or not he was safe."
And really, wasn't that the crux of the issue? Danny didn't have any problem with Jason going out and starting fights. He had no problem with how Jason wanted to help. But the thought of loosing him- loosing his loved ones after only learning to keep them clutched to his heart before he looses them- drove Danny down a spiral that he could not afford to enter again.
How many times had Danny almost lose Jason? How many times did he come to loosing the only good thing in Gotham? How many times had he laid asleep, not knowing whether Jason was bleeding out in an alley somewhere? How close had Danny come to waking up to news of Jason's cold corpse?
It made him furious. More than that, it made him terrified. Never in his half life had he ever been afraid to this extent. Not even for Jazz. It made him want to drown the feeling with enough booze to down a speedster. But he couldn't. Not now, not with Jason. His little brother deserved better than that. Not to mention the shit his little brother would get up to if he weren't fully there.
"But first, you gotta help me with something."
"... Fine."
Danny got up and bee-lined towards his booze stash. They're going out. Right now. He shoved the bottles into a tote bag.
"Let's go. We're destroying this."
"We are?"
"I can't be drunk and teach you how to vigilante."
"You're okay with me being Robin?" Hesitant blue eyes peered up at him. Danny's heart melted, the traitorous little shit.
"Not really. But I can't stop you, so I might as well make sure you live past 25." He jabbed Jason's forehead. "And I'll be reaming out Batman the next time he swings by, now that I'm not pissed as hell. I'll make sure it hurts."
"He's not that bad."
Danny sent him an unimpressed look and Jason mimed zipping his mouth closed, twisiting an imaginary key and throwing it over his shoulder. The little shit thinks he's got jokes. (He does, but Danny's supposed to be mad with him right now, so he'll never admit he thinks Jason's funny.)
They walked out of the apartment complex and turned to the right, right into the alley.
Did his heart give a little twinge every time Jason tossed the booze? Yes. But the hopeful thrill in his little brother's countenance made up for every single penny he spent.
"So... How long am I grounded for?"
At the reminder, Danny's hands clamped around one of the last bottles a little harsher than necessary.
"You... are grounded for- till college." He gritted out, tossing the bottle.
Jason's horrified "For- till college?!" rang nicely against the shattering of Danny's booze. Danny grinned and gave Jason a noogie.
"For till college," He affirmed, joking tone making Jason grumble, struggling to get out of the hold. "Or, for like, a week."
---
"Hey, Danny?"
Danny grunted, rousing slightly from his nap on the couch. They had been watching a show in the middle of Jason's grounding when he had drifted off.
"Did I ever tell you I had a brother?"
Danny's eyes flew open. "... No. Do you want to?"
Danny swiveled his head to look at Jason, who sat with his back against the couch and his head set aglow by the light of the TV. He looked... sad. Lonely.
"His name was Danny too."
Danny's heart shot right up to his throat. "Yeah?"
"Yeah. He died." Danny couldn't help the thought that passed him. Me too, buddy, me too. "I thought you were him. 'S why I talked ta ya, even if y're drinkin'."
Danny tilted his head back, silently closing his eyes in grief. It was fate, that wily Ancient.
"Is that... bad?"
"Nah. You're as good a brother as he was."
"Thank you for telling me, Jason."
"Whatever."
Danny laid back down, the thread of a memory all but confirming his theory.
"Come on, Danny-o, Jazz was being a good sister!"
Five year old Danny pulled the blanket up to his chin, pouting. His mother laughed.
"That's right, sweetie. She was trying to make sure you didn't get sick."
"I don't want Jazz! I want- I want a brother instead!"
His parents exchanged amused looks. "Well, Danny-o, you almost had a brother."
"Really?" Danny turned around, curious.
"Really. If Jazz was a boy, we would have named him Jason!" His dad laughed, ruffling his hair.
Danny wrinkled his nose. "Ew. I like Jazz better... oh."

a long way from the playground // rafe cameron x reader
summary ; when you met rafe on the playground of the school, he was such a crybaby but you were there for him as his most beloved (and unique) friend until that accident which happened in high school.
seven years after that argument, you met him again. and mostly, seven years after, the crybaby that you know became the big boy that everyone knows.
genre ; childhood bestfriends to strangers to lovers (literally my favorite trope of the world), slight of angst, fluff, and smut. he fell first (and alone at first lmfao...)but she fell harder trope. one-shot.
warnings ; argument, family issues, mentions of cheating, smut, miscommunication, mentions of anger issues, fear of abandonment/being alone, jealousy, first time/virginity, past/present, violence ?( reader slapping rafe), being pogue/kook is not a big deal, mentions of rafe's mother.
author's note : it's 4k. was inspired by eighteen by one direction and to build a home by the cinematic orchestra. trying myself on something soft and kinda angst (but more in a bittersweet way.)
rafe was not always being the big boy everyone knew. it had taken seven years between the two of you for him to become stronger and more mature. when you met him, he was a whiny little boy who loved to fight, but cried every time you treated his wounds. you always managed to make him smile when you placed a bandage on the bleeding bruise and promised him that if he calmed down, the injury would disappear.
you started being there for him from the moment you were just seven years old.you understood that rafe needed someone in his life, because no one was there for him. you never understood why, but people loved to say, even the teacher and his family that there was something weird about him.
you heard the others spreading rumors about it a couple times. it was so easy to criticize others rather than judge yourself. at that moment, rafe didn't scare anyone. it was not because he had the prestigious cameron name that it made his classmates fear him.
he was like everyone else, there was no kook or pogue. everyone was too young to be different, the prey could be anyone in the group, but the leader always remained the same.
the first time you and rafe cameron were really close was on mother's day. the whole class had been assigned to make a gift and in the most saddest way possible, everyone had a mother to give their present to. everyone except Rafe, but you didn't know about that before the accident.
having finished making your own gift, you surprised your friend from behind and he dropped his vase on the ground. you had never felt so sad in your entire life when you saw the broken glass on the floor. you could clearly feel your heart cracking in your ribcage, your veins freezing, and your breath dying in your throat, the hot rush of tears inside your eyes.
"rafe, i'm really sorry. I...really, I didn't mean to..."
âitâs okay, y/n. I didnât have anyone to give it to anyway...â
his voice cracked slightly in his knotted throat as he managed to not show you how hurt he was. he was trying to be strong, and not a crybaby â that nickname that you given him every time. and his eyes had become so full and wet with tears, the blue ocean of his eyes drowning in the hot little boy whines.
rafe cameron was a broken child, not just since you broke his vase. no, always. since he no longer had his mother. and you realized it in such a cruel way that you wanted to disappear.
he had so many tears, and you felt like they could flow down his cheeks forever, that even an eternity wouldn't be enough to wipe them away. and even if you had been a siren, you would never have been able to swim in water as salty as his present sadness.
"my mother...left me..." he admitted softly between sniffles, his nose red and leaky.
you felt bad but you took him against you in a tender hug, and placed your hand on his back to start caressing him gently, until he was soothed. "but you have me. and i will not leave. you know rafe, when i love someone, it's serious. i sincerely would like to make sure that you never feel alone again."
you looked into his eyes. you couldn't be more sincere.
and maybe it was from that day that rafe cameron fell in love with you, and he had never felt so good because he never thought that love could be so heartwarming and kind.
if you thought he would be the type to hide his feelings, or run away from them, you were wrong. it was the first time he felt this comfort, this happiness and he needed to show it to you. even for his family he did not have such great affection.
he loved giving you gifts. he had seen and heard that the girls really liked those kind of things so every day since Mother's Day, you received flowers, boxes of chocolates, photos of yourself accompanied by notes, volumes of your favorite book saga, CD's of your favorite singers. rafe couldn't let go of you.
since you didn't love him back, he fed on the affection and attention you gave him.
rafe took everything you had to give him - a look, a smile, a kiss on the cheek, a hug, an earphone for the two of you to share, a day in your room watching movies, a ride on the bike of your big brother, an afternoon playing in the sea.
there was nothing strange about him, nothing like the rumors could say.
ârafe, you didnât have to give me that.â you exclaimed when you saw a necklace with his initials.
âbut I wanted to. Donât you like it?â
"I love..."
Rafe would have loved to hear that you were talking about him saying those words but he was also so impatient. every boy his age had a girlfriend, and he wanted you to be his. he was not an exception to the eager youth.
what was the point of being rich, of being able to have everything if you weren't included among his treasures? he wanted you, his only friend and the only girl who mattered to him.
But also, he was lost because he was experiencing one-sided love, because above all, it hurt so much not to be loved in return, to be in love with someone to love them to a point where it mattered more than himself.
the first time you kissed rafe cameron on the lips was in high school. you were drunk, you hadn't done it on purpose.
you threw up right after, but he never blamed you. he knew it was the alcohol, not him. he even held your hair while you vomited everything into the bowl. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry...I..."
"I'm not mad. you're just drinking too much. I should have been more careful. you know i can't be angry with you."
yes, rafe had anger issues, serious problems managing his hard feelings. sometimes he even scared you. sometimes you even felt like he would be able to kill someone.
rafeâs hands could be deadly but whenever they were on you, pressed to your cheeks, against your hips, on your thighs, inside your hair, on your neck, they were always calm and gentle.
after that, you would never have guessed that the first time rafe cameron had touched himself, it was thinking about your lips on his mouth, something so small and pathetic but it was enough to make him so vulnerable and unable to think about anything else.
he imagined your pretty lips around his cock instead of his useless large hand, your wet open mouth pumping him as your tongue covered every inch of his growing girth. and he hated himself for having impure thoughts about you, because you looked like an angel. he had no desire to make you dirty but oh fuck â he had cum on his stomach, spurting the warm loads painting his flesh. and god he wished you were there to make him pure again.
after that, rafe had tried many times to get you out of his head. he thought of porn. but he imagined your body, your voice, your moans in place of all these actresses, and that was the only way he could come.
dating girls but it never worked. you were always the one he wanted out of all the ones that existed.
distance from you but he always came back, because without you it had always been like being in the dark. and how could he lives in darkness without the one who gave him light?
but above all, you were the one who understood him best, who always managed to soothe him, and above all who never judged him in his moments of weakness.
you were his home, where he took refuge when he had a problem with his father, when he could no longer stand Sarah's presence, when Rose was getting on his nerves, when Topper and Kelce were behaving like idiots. because you were the only person who couldn't make his existence even more shitty.
â now it's been over ten years since rafe cameron was in love with you, but only seven since you disappeared from his life.
you had another life now, a boyfriend who cheated on you and who was always angry with you, and pushing you under and under. you were stuck with the wrong guy.
you had always dreamed of being an artist, you had specialized in painting in college hoping to pursue your dream.
rafe had always accompanied you in that dream, volunteering as a model for all your portraits but you always ended up throwing all the drawings away because you were too perfectionist. for you, it was never good enough. but for your best friend, it was a masterpiece, the work of a true painter.
you drew in your spare time, but each time, you ended up drawing rafe's face. you had no idea why he was your only inspiration even though you had a boyfriend, why it was always him who motivated you to continue painting.
it was strange how rafe had made a huge impact in your life, the only boy you actually had.
â a year later, on a huge impulse, you offered your art to a museum that regularly held exhibitions. you had made arrangements with the director and tried to find rafe's contact two nights after.
you searched for his social media, last names in the directory, asked his friends but nothing had helped you. you had spent a week trying to find it but it felt like you had lost him forever, that it was like a flower that you should have cherished instead of letting it perish.
you had been a monster. you abandoned him...like his mother. like everyone else.
every time you thought about him, you always ended up crying. if it wasn't love because you were sure you didn't love him, why did it hurt so much? why did it kill you so much?
rafe had never been capable of hurting you, and yet you had stabbed him without even looking at him. you had let him give you his heart, and you had stepped on it. and maybe that was why he couldn't fall in love anymore because you had ruined all his chances of being with someone else.
rafe had confessed his feelings to you while you were in his room, talking about everything and nothing, the future and the past like children. he had grown up. he was no longer the little whiny child you had known but a big boy, the one who now had big arms to protect you, hands to dry your tears, body to warm you.
âi feel like you want to tell me something, big boy. so say it, don't make me wait or beg for it.â you teased him by stopping the movie you were watching under the blankets.
"If you weren't so blind and stupid, I wouldn't have to be so embarrassed. i really have to do all the work all the time. "
âCome on, confess it. Do you want me to close my eyes?â
â close that eyes, and shut that mouth too. â he nodded, and the minute you closed your eyes, his mouth found yours to kiss you.
âwhat does that mean?â
âare you being stupid on purpose?â he replied. "It wasn't a mistake for me in the club...I mean, I really liked it like now. Don't make me say it, y/n. "
you were embarrassed. you didn't like rafe. finally you loved him like a best friend. he had always been the friend you dreamed of, not the one you wanted to end up with.
In contrast, rafe always believed that a girl could never break his heart. but you had shown him today that he was wrong, because you had managed to hurt his feelings, to make them so depressing.
you had this control on him that he had exactly over everyone else.
"Am I still the crybaby I was to you? I've changed. "
"that has nothing to do with it. rafe, you can't love someone and think that they will love you back. love doesn't work like that, and sometimes it doesn't even work. "
âyou love someone else, right?â his tone was now louder, becoming more aggressive.
"I...n-n..."
"you love someone? who is it? tell me who it is? or don't tell me, I'll find out eventually. do you think that guy deserves you more than me ? "
ârafe, youâre scaring me. donât yell at me.â
"why? you have the right to reject me but I don't have the right to raise my voice with you... let me laugh...since you like joking with me now.â there was a sick smile on his face that you hated, and made you shake.
"Rafe, I'm not rejecting you..."
âoh, y/n, please donât lie to me. youâve never been a hypocrite, so donât be one now. don't be mean sweetheart because i would die rather than hurting you. just admit that you have someone, that you like playing with my feelings. do you think you're superior to me ? well, don't forget that i'm the only guy that give you attention so you're not that special. i made you special.â
"you win, rafe cameron. congratulations. i'm leaving."
you stood up towards the door but he rushed toward you and blocked your way.
ârafe. move.â
"asking like that? oh no, sweetheart. I've seen you be nicer than that, so you're going to give me the pleasure of asking me with better words."
âdonât make me push you. â
he laughed so hard that your ego had been hurt. "because you think i'm still the weak, whiny cameron from the past that you used to manipulate ? tskk tskk, wrong. it's over. i hold the power in the relationship now. "
ârafe, I donât want us to argue.â
â oh yea ? so why do you want to leave? give me just one good reason at least !â
âyou have to let me go.â
"and if I refuse? ah yes, I forgot, my family probably loves you more than me so they will surely come and help you if you cry or scream. so, please, show me how much my family hates and doesn't care about me. â
you felt the sadness in his voice despite the loud tone, and the condescension.
"you can't leave. what kind of girl are you? the kind who likes to break hearts?â
it was your turn to be mad at rafe so you slapped him. louder than you expected because his face had turned against the door, and a red bruise had marked his skin. you regretted your action but you didn't apologize. because rafe had to learn to respect you.
" excuse me ? I was always there for you, when you were in pain, when you were angry with the whole world, when your father was so cruel to you that I had nightmares because I was afraid that will be the reason i will lost you one day, when you were crying, when you were fighting, I was there when there was absolutely no one for you, I was there when you were the little boy that no one wanted. You have absolutely no right to blame me for anything and consider this slap at the end of my sentence because I will not apologize. I have always been nice to you. so don't make me regret this. so yes, well done rafe, you managed to ruin everything. I'm sorry that you are in love with me and unfortunately I don't have this feelings for you, but now you lost me, and all the chances you had for us to end up together so you can sequester me here if you want, but know that even if I stayed in this room until the end of my days, I would still have no feelings for you, not a fucking single one. â
he was angry, his nostrils were flaring, and his fists were clenched against his thighs. you only had to see the swelling of his veins around his temples and around his neck to feel that it was literally boiling inside his body.
"you haven't changed. you've just grown. you'll cry when my back is turned.â
â back in the present, you wore a pretty dress to your art exhibition. you chose "blue eyes" as a subject with multiple paintings representing Rafe's gaze in different expressions. you had even managed to capture his look when he was in love with you.
so, you hoped that this evening he would come, that he had accepted your invitation, that your letter had arrived safely at its destination. you had received so many compliments but none had made you happy, none had managed to really make you smile, even those from your boyfriend who you had found in the hallway kissing someone else.
you didn't even cry because you knew it. it was just more horrible to see him in real life because he looked so happy.
âget out of here.â you reacted without even shouting.
âbaby wait, I can explain everythingâŠ.â
"explain what to me? your explanations are stuffed in this girl's mouth right now."
"I'm not going to leave." he replied.
â oh yes you will leave. and if I see a single tear on her face, surely not alive. but yea, dare you to stay.â a cold voice growled and warned behind your back that you recognized it by heart.
you turned to admire rafe who stood in front of you, still just as handsome, and above all taller. you wanted to be a pure and shed tears just to see your ex-boyfriend suffer but you were too busy rejoicing in rafe's presence.
âWho are you?â your ex-boyfriend replied.
"oh if I told you, I think it would break your heart but you don't seem to have one so I'll be honest. I'm definitely the only boy she likes. i'm sorry if she made you think that she has something for you. but believe me, will be nothing contrary to what i will do to you if your ass is still here in those free seconds i let you run.. "
ârafâŠâ
he shushed you with his mouth. "You'll have your moment, but wait. this is a conversation for boys, and unless you're hiding a dick between your legs, you're not in."
you smiled at his stupidity. the two boys had gone out, and Rafe had returned a few minutes later.
âOh my god, you didnât cry,â you teased him gently about his whiny past, clapping your hands.
âWas I crying that much?â
âLike a baby.â
"but I have changed...and..."
you felt like the words were really struggling to come out. his voice was blocked and he didn't look you in the eye. he scratched the back of his neck. "I'm sorry. I was totally stupid."
âapology accepted.â
âdoes that mean I have the right to a kiss?â
When you were little, you always gave Rafe a kiss on the cheek when he apologized. the memory made you smile tenderly.
you stood on your tiptoes to reach his lips with your mouth, and he lifted you by your ass to help you.
âyou were always mine, baby. even when you left, even when he was here.â
â because itâs as much to love you as to hate you, rafe cameron.â
âIs that why you dedicated this entire exhibition to me? Iâm flattered.â
âyou didnât leave my head even though you left my life.â
âI havenât stopped thinking about you either. and I still think of you now. "
âah yes? and what do your thoughts say about me?â
"that I finally have the girl I've always waited for. and that I still want her just as much."
"How about you show me how much...I mean...not with your lips, big boy. It's time to show me how much you've grown.â
you had gone to his hotel room after the party. he had accompanied you during the rest of the event, never taking his eyes off you as if he was afraid of losing you again. he even felt himself tighten his arm around your waist. he didn't keep his hands in his pocket, because you were there. and above all that you finally loved him.
it was beautiful. you had been the first person rafe cameron had loved, the first person he had broken his heart, and also, the first person who had loved him. you were destined to each others.
in his room, you were surprised to see how gentle he was with you, that he had softly placed your body on his sheets like a princess. he took off his t-shirt and you salivated just seeing his muscular chest, his arms turned into huge biceps, his flat stomach turned into voluminous abs with a magnificent v-line. â It seems like you worked hard to please me. â
â oh babe, don't waste your drool on yourself when you can literally splash it on my dick. but maybe my girl wanted it dryâ
â you're really big now. â
â wait, something bigger is coming at you. â
you were in love with the way your boy had become a man. you were proud of him, you undid his belt, and pulled him by the leather of the accessory before sliding it down and wrapping it around his neck to push him towards you and kiss him again. rafe was so desperate for you, he was hard in his pants to the point where it was painful, and even his tongue against yours was lost in a messy burst of both of you saliva.
he had spread your legs, and removed his pants, before pulling you against him by the thighs to bring you back against his hips.
âspit.â he held out his hand to let you spit on his palm and coated his hard cock with your drool, using your saliva as some kind of lube.
he started touching himself quickly, slowing up and down, a tight grip around his veiny and rocking length. you placed your fingers against his to accompany him in his movements, while devouring him with your eyes.
âfuck, youâre too good for me.â
âso make me as bad as you.â you responded by separating the two lips of your cunt with your fingers to show him the way. âfuck me. now.â
âdid you have sex with him?â
ânoâŠâ you admitted shyly. âIâm still a virgin. Does that bother you?â
âIâve already had sex, does that bother you?â
"no, because I'm sure you've never been able to cum without thinking about me. You're so obsessed with me.â
he pushed his leaking and wet tip against your soaked folds, rubbing himself lightly on them. âcan I ?â
âoh rafe, it's only if you donât do it that weâre going to have a problem.â you laughed gently.
and it didn't take more for him to split your pussy with his throbbing dick to startly making his way inside you. he had done it gently, partly because he didn't want to hurt you, but because you were incredibly tight. he held your hands, before placing his lips on yours, and driving you crazy with slow thrusts, his hips gently bucking against yours.
his cock stretched you softly, moving back and forth and sliding inside your canal that surrounded every inch of his dick. once he felt your body relax, he fasted up the pace, your moans automatically becoming louder. you had never been fucked until now, but you understood now, why people liked it.
rafe was completely buried in you from his tip, to the pelvis which was slamming against your thighs and the mattress. he couldnât be more in love with you. you were perfect.
he loved hearing your screams from across the room, knowing that he was the only one to make you moans like that. you were completely wet, and your dripping pussy helped him pound you quicker, and especially harder. he couldn't get enough of your face completely ruined by tears and pleasure, but especially of your walls squishing him until he felt his own stomach twitching by your trembling body sticking to his, the way your part convulsing around him as the strokes went deeper and deeper.
the bottom lip of your mouth was covered in your own saliva, your back arched against the sheets, and your entire body stimulated, spasms covering it, and forcing you to squirm in every direction.
his blue eyes were lost in your gaze. you didnât know how but he always managed to go further, hitting every sensitive gummy and soaked spot only to ram it again.
you let out a muffled and depraved sound when his cock slammed into your insides all the way to your stomach. you threw your head back, completely losing control.
âI'm never going to stop and you never going to leave if you keep giving me those eyes. don't feel dizzy now, it's just the beginning. â he blurted out as he continued to pound you, making your pussy dripping even more all over him, leaving him no choice but to speed up his movements to avoid any waste of your fluids. â i really want to fuck you all the night. don't make that face, you made me wait for more than fucking ten years, it's just now so fair. â
you had already had an orgasm, but his energy had doubled. you didn't know what time you stopped, but when you woke up, you were completely exhausted like your body had been used all night.
you wondered how different your relationship was going to be now, and if rafe was going to take responsibility for everything he did last night. you had too many questions, and not enough answers. you took a shower while waiting for him to wake up.
when you finally had the chance to have the famous conversation, you asked him. âdo you regret it?â
"that you didn't let me do this way before? yes. for doing it last night? no. another question, babe?"
"yes. well, it's not a question. I don't really know how long I've loved you. I mean, you know the day you fell in love with me. whereas I realized that when I didn't stop painting your face I thought it was your absence but it was stronger than that. when we were young, we were dumb and clumsy. but thank you to let me come back because we finally found the right moment."
âyou know very well that you never had to ask for anything to get everything you want from me. all is yours. â

AU where Shen Yuan transmigrates as a rogue cultivator one year after Luo Bingheâs been thrown into Abyss.
His transmigration experience isnât as smooth as it could be â upon waking up he realizes that half of the forest is burned and that thereâs a huge tear in the ground where the flames are coming from. By smell alone heâd be able to recognize the Abyss, despite being in this world for less than five minutes.
Before Shen Yuan can run for his life, though, he notices something. One bloody hand grasping the edge of the tear. He reaches out without thinking, heart in his throat, and pulls out half-delirious protagonist from hell itself.
As soon as Luo Bingheâs out, the tear closes neatly, and Shen Yuanâs now got an unconscious man on his lap. He should be terrified â who knows how Luo Binghe, future Demon Lord and mass murderer might react when he wakes up? Only, he doesnât look like a murder, does he? Heâs thin, pale, and his mouth is slightly open.
Thereâs blood in his hair and his clothes are all torn, and his claws are sharp and auraâs clearly demonic, but all that Shen Yuan can see is a kid. A kid who cannot be older than nineteen.
Itâs hard to think about all the what-ifs once Luo Bingheâs brows furrow and he whines really, really quietly, as if heâs afraid to attract attention even in his sleep.
Shen Yuan sighs, stands up, lifts unconscious body as gently as he can, and starts towards the village. He rents a small shack of a house with the money he finds in his poach and spends three hours cleaning up and redressing Luo Binghe. This might get him killed after all, but he canât leave him like that. Thereâre still bleeding wounds underneath all the gore.
Shen Yuan tends to them as well as he can manage.
Whatever happens when Luo Binghe wakes up, whatever canon divergence he accidentally caused, heâs not letting this kid suffer anymore.
#okay this is like super rough but do you see my vision đ#should we see what happens when Binghe wakes up#???#should we see sy being hysterical when sqh confronts him about stealing away the protagonist ??#svsss#luo binghe#shen yuan#bingyuan#svsss au#svsss ficlet

You always try to keep your nights as simple as possible. Working under Commissioner Jim Gordon had its perks, but peace of mind wasnât one of them. Between juggling case files, analyzing crime scenes, and trying to stay ahead of Gothamâs ever-growing list of threats, your days were more than chaotic.
Gordon, a mentor as much as a boss, trusted you with sensitive information that only a few had access toâand you took that responsibility seriously. What he didnât know was how deep your connection to Gothamâs vigilantes truly ran.
While Gordon believed in the power of the law, you knew sometimes it wasnât enough. Thatâs where Batman came in. Your dual roleâan officer of the GCPD by day, and a secret informant for Batman by nightâhad become second nature. You fed him intel and helped him stay ahead of Gothamâs worst, all while maintaining the facade of loyalty to the department.
You weren't proud about it, but he gave you enough hush money that you don't question it whenever he appears by the office as you leave your later shifts.
Friday nights were your escape. After a week of handling reports, dissecting evidence, and sidestepping questions from Gordon about your mysterious late-night absences, you let yourself disconnect. You skipped the gym after work, came home early, and cooked yourself a proper dinner. By the time the sun set, you were showered, dressed in your comfiest pyjamas, and settled on the couch with a movie.
Tonight was no different. Youâd just closed a case with Gordonâs team, a robbery ring, criminals now behind bars, but Gotham never truly rested. Tomorrow would bring another wave of crime, another set of challenges. Still, for now, you had this moment of peace.
The movie droned on in the background as you finished dinner, exhaustion from the week creeping in. Your eyes fluttered shut halfway through, the comfort of your quiet apartment lulling you to sleep. By the time the credits rolled, you were completely out, wrapped in the safety of your little corner of the world.
That is until a faint creak from your window broke the silence.
You stirred groggily, blinking at the clock. It was well past midnight. Gotham was still alive outsideâsirens in the distance, the occasional rumble of a motorcycle passing byâbut your apartment had fallen into stillness. You stretched, ready to drag yourself to bed, but something wasnât right.
The creak came again. Your blood ran cold.
Someone was in your apartment.
You froze, your breath catching in your throat as your eyes darted around the dimly lit room. The faint sound of creaking had stopped, leaving an eerie silence behind, but thereâa shadow moved. Your heart pounded, adrenaline rushing through your veins as you reached blindly for something, anything to defend yourself. The remote was the closest thing at hand. You gripped it tightly, feeling foolish but unwilling to let go, and scrambled to stand.
In the faint glow from the streetlight filtering through the curtains, you finally saw himâa large figure by the balcony door, hunched over, struggling to quietly close the glass behind him. He moved slowly, cautiously, as if he didnât want to be noticed. But you had already seen enough.
The silhouette was unmistakable.
âJason.â
His shoulders stiffened at the sound of his name, freezing in place for a second before turning to face you. Even in the darkness, you could feel the weight of his gaze through the red-tinted visor of his helmet, his expression unreadable beneath it.
You lowered the remote slowly, heart still racing, but now for a different reason. âYou canâtâyou canât just break in like this,â you stammered, your voice tinged with frustration and worry. Youâd seen him do this too many times, yet it never got easier.
He let out a gruff, annoyed sound beneath the helmet, shoulders sagging as he took a step closer. âNot like you were gonna answer the door.â His voice was rough, and the bitterness in his tone was impossible to miss.
Your irritation flared, but then you noticed somethingâa slight tremor in the way he moved. His steps were sluggish, almost hesitant, and he favoured his right side, trying to mask it.
He wasnât just annoyed.
He was hurt.
As he stepped out of the shadow, the dim lamp light caught the outline of his armour. Thatâs when you noticed itâdark stains creeping across the front of his suit, and the way his hand pressed against his side, the faint sound of a pained breath slipping past his otherwise guarded posture.
âYouâre bleeding,â you muttered, the frustration quickly giving way to concern. He didnât respond, his gaze avoiding yours as he leaned back against the wall, clearly uncomfortable with being here. Jason never wanted anyone to see him like thisâleast of all you.
âYou werenât supposed to wake up,â he grumbled, the words tinged with a mix of guilt and exasperation. âGo to bed. Iâll be out in a minute. Just needed some stuff. Still got that first aid kit?â
You shook your head, taking a cautious step closer, your heart sinking at the sight of him in pain. âJason, you canât justââ
âDonât,â he cut you off sharply, pushing himself off the wall, wincing as the movement aggravated his wound. His stance was defensive like he was already preparing to run before you could offer to help.
But the moment his knees buckled slightly, the tough exterior he was trying to maintain cracked. You could see it in the way his breath hitched, the way he clutched at his side like he was barely holding it together.
He wasnât here because he wanted to be. He was here because he didnât have anywhere else to go.
Jason pulled the mask off his head, his breath coming in sharp gasps as if the helmet had been suffocating him. He tossed it carelessly onto your dining table before glancing at you, his expression tight. âYou got it or not?â
His voice startled you into action. âUhâyeah, Iâve got it.â You scrambled down the hall toward the bathroom, hands shaking as you rifled through the drawers for the first aid kit. His footsteps echoed faintly in your living room, boots heavy against the hardwood. Now that heâd been caught, his presence filled the space in a way that made it impossible to ignore.
You tried to steady your breathing, but it was no use. No matter how many times youâd imagined running into Jason again, it was never like this. In your daydreams, you hoped youâd bump into him on the street, or maybe during work.
There were even moments where youâd foolishly fantasized about seeing him at Wayne Manor, handing over files to Bruce as a favour, only to lock eyes with Jason from across the room. But this? Jason bleeding out on your floor, breaking into your apartment in the middle of the night? This wasnât what you wanted.
When you returned to the living room, he had already shed his jacket, revealing a deep gash along his side. It was messy, and the blood soaked into the fabric of his suit, leaving dark stains that made your stomach drop.
Heâd settled into something uncomfortably familiarâboots kicked off by the door, sitting against the wall like old times, but this time he kept his distance, his body tense.
He didnât want to be here.
You hesitated as you approached, the kit in your hand. âJason, let meââ
âIâve got it.â His voice was sharp, cutting you off as he took the first aid kit from your hands without so much as a glance. His glare kept you at armâs length, and it hurt. The way he shut you out, even when he was barely holding himself together.
He didnât trust anyoneânot entirely.
Not after everything.
Still, seeing him like this made something twist in your chest. Bleeding and worn down, but too stubborn to ask for help. There was a heaviness in the air, lingering in the silence that stretched between you both. It wasnât just about tonightâit was everything that had been left unresolved before, all the words that had gone unsaid the last time youâd seen each other. But now, with Jason sitting right in front of you, neither of you dared to speak.
You crouched a few feet away, sitting on the floor across from him, watching as he tried to clean the wound himself. His hand shook slightly, though he tried to hide it, his jaw clenched as he gritted his teeth against the pain. It was badâworse than he was letting on.
âJason, stop,â you finally said, your voice softer than you intended. âYouâre gonna make it worse.â
âI donât need your help,â he bit out, refusing to meet your eyes. âIâve done this a thousand times.â
He huffed, annoyed, but when he tried to move again, his breath hitchedâpain breaking through the cracks of his tough exterior. His hand slipped, and the antiseptic bottle nearly fell from his grip. You didnât wait for his permission this time. You slid over, taking the kit from his hand.
âJust let me do it,â you murmured, your voice firmer now.
Jason didnât argue this time, though his jaw was still set in that stubborn way you knew all too well. You could feel the heat branching off him as you gently touched his arm to move it out of the way and clean the wound. His whole body stiffened at the contact like he wasnât used to being taken care ofâor maybe he just didnât want it.
His eyes shifted to the far wall, jaw clenched even tighter, refusing to meet your gaze, but you caught the way his breath hitched ever so slightly when your hands moved over his skin.
He wasnât saying anything, but his body told you enough. Every time your fingers brushed a sensitive spot or when the antiseptic stung, his lips pressed into a thinner line. He didnât flinch exactly, but his postureârigid, unmovingâbetrayed how uncomfortable he was.
You werenât sure what was harder for him: the wound or the fact that he was letting you help. His pride had always been a barrier, a wall he rarely let anyone get through. Yet here he was, in your apartment, wounded and unwilling to admit just how much he needed you.
As Jason shifted slightly, wincing, you took the moment to observe him. It had been a while since you last saw him, and for a second, you searched for somethingâanythingâthat mightâve changed. But he was still Jason. Still, the same stubborn man who couldnât stay out of trouble. Even that white strand of hair was right where it had always been. He looked older somehow, but not in the way time ages people. It was something deeper, worn into him from the life he led.
And then his eyes flicked up, catching you watching him. For a brief moment, neither of you moved. His gaze softened, just barely, before the guarded look returned as quickly as it had slipped away.
He shifted again, his body tense, and glanced around your apartmentâanything to avoid looking directly at you. His gaze lingered on your desk, the files from your latest case scattered across it, and his expression darkened. You could see it in his eyesâa mix of suspicion and something else.
âYouâve been busy,â he muttered, his tone gruff, though the edge in his voice told you there was more to it than a simple observation.
You didnât look up, keeping your hands steady as you applied pressure to the wound. âYou know how it is.â
Jasonâs jaw twitched. âYeah,â he said, his tone sharp. âI know how it is.â
It was a jab, even if it was subtle. You could feel the accusation hanging between the lines of his words. He wasn't just talking about your busy scheduleâhe was digging at the gap between you two, at all the things neither of you had addressed. Your loyalty to Batman. Your work with Gordon.
A little fucking traitor to everything Jason worked for.
You sighed, pressing a little harder than necessary to make a point. âYouâre not here for that, Jason.â
He winced, and you almost felt bad. Almost. But the look in his eyesâcalculated, like he was searching for the truth behind every move you madeâmade your chest tighten. His silence was louder than anything he couldâve said.
âYouâre not going to ask why Iâm here?â His voice was softer now, but there was a bitterness to it. He knew you werenât stupid. He wasnât here by choice, and you both knew it. You wanted to ask, but what was the point? Jason never came to you for help, never came to anyone unless he had no other option.
âI figured youâd tell me when youâre ready,â you replied quietly, not daring to meet his eyes. His presence in your home felt heavier than the blood on your hands.
He scoffed, shifting to take the bandage from your hand. âDonât hold your breath.â
Your hand stilled for a moment, hovering just above his skin. You could feel the heat radiating from him, a reminder of just how close you were to crossing a line neither of you dared to acknowledge. He was still the same Jason, still stubborn as hell, but the space between you felt like it had grown into a chasm. One you weren't sure either of you could cross without everything falling apart.
âWhy are you really here, Jason?â you asked, giving in. He was a wanted man, or at least Red Hood was. If you were up to it, you could have him arrested within seconds.
His eyes snapped up, the guarded expression faltering for a moment before his usual defiance returned. âItâs not like I had a lot of options,â he admitted, though the words felt forced like he was offering you an excuse instead of the truth.
âI thought you always had a plan,â you said, words sharper than you intended. âOr is that just another thing youâve changed your mind about?â
He flinched, and for a second, you regretted saying it. But the hurt between you two had been simmering for too long. His loyalty was always a wild card, and yours? Well, Jason had never forgiven you for staying close to the people he had walked away from.
Jasonâs lips twitched, not quite a smirk, but close. âThe Bat keeping you on a tight leash?â he asked, voice dripping with sarcasm. âOr is it Gordon now?â
You stiffened, the accusation hitting home more than you liked. âItâs not like that,â you muttered, knowing it sounded weak but unwilling to offer more. It was always the same with Jasonâhe pushed, prodded, and pulled at the places you tried to protect.
âYeah, right. Because we both know where your loyalties lie,â Jason snapped, his tone harsher now. His eyes bore into you like he was searching for somethingâanythingâthat would confirm his suspicions. That youâd chosen Batman over him. That you were still working with the people who had crossed him.
âI didnât betray you,â you said quietly, though even as you said it, the words felt hollow. You didnât know if you believed them anymore.
Jason let out a bitter laugh, shaking his head. âCouldâve fooled me.â
You opened your mouth to argue, but the words caught in your throat. There was too much between you, too many things left unsaid, and no amount of stitching his wounds would ever fix that. He was right, in a way. You hadnât chosen himânot when it counted.
Not when he needed you. And for what? For comfort? A little bit of safety? An alliance with Batman? A raise at work? The questions ran through your mind like jagged edges. It wasnât that simple, but neither of you had ever really said the things that needed to be said back then, too busy trying to fix things that did not need fixing.
His breathing had become more laboured as you worked, his chest rising and falling in shallow, uneven breaths. The wound you were treating was deep, and too close to critical areas for comfort.
Jasonâs hands twitched at his sides, fingers curling into fists as if he was fighting the pain, refusing to show just how much it hurt. But you could see it in the way his body trembled under your touchâhe was reaching his limit.
âLet me finish,â you said, your tone softer, more insistent. "Stop fighting me."
For once, he didnât argue. His jaw unclenched, his shoulders slackened slightly, and his eyesâusually so guardedâsoftened just enough to show how exhausted he really was. Physically, emotionally, all of it. He wasnât invincible, and tonight, that truth was catching up with him faster than he could hide.
You moved closer, hands brushing against his skin as you worked quickly, trying to keep your focus. His skin was warm, slick with sweat and blood, and the faintest tremor ran through his frame as your fingers traced the edge of the wound. But the closeness was unnervingâboth of you acutely aware of each other in a way that made the room feel smaller.
You caught his eyes as you reached for more gauze, and for a split second, neither of you looked away. His gaze burned into you, full of unspoken questions, of things he couldnâtâor wouldnâtâsay. And for the first time, you wondered if you werenât the only one who had felt betrayed.
But youâd both been wrong. You could see it now, in the way his eyes darkened with unsaid accusations, in the way your heart ached with unresolved regret. You thought you were protecting him by walking awayâby choosing the safer path, Batmanâs path. And Jason, with all his reckless defiance, had been too far gone in his need for vengeance to understand why you couldnât follow him down that road.
âYou donât get it,â he muttered, barely loud enough for you to hear. âI canât trust anyone anymore.â
Your fingers stilled, hovering just above his chest. The weight of his words hung heavy in the air between you.
"I never asked you to trust me," you whispered, the words hanging precariously on the line between honesty and regret.
But the truth was, you wanted him to. More than anything.
Jasonâs lips tightened into a thin line, and for a moment, you thought he might push you away. His muscles tensed beneath your touch as if bracing himself for another fight. His hand twitched, lifting halfway like he was going to shove you back, but he stopped.
The strain was written all over his face now, and you could see his breathing growing more ragged. His eyes were slipping out of focus, and you noticed the faint green glow flickering at the edges of his irisesâLazarus. It was always there, a reminder of how far heâd gone, how close to the edge he still was.
âJasonâŠâ you said quietly, watching the pain ripple through him. He was losing consciousness, slipping into the darkness despite his stubborn refusal to admit it. His hand finally dropped, brushing against your arm before it hit the floor, the strength leaving him in waves.
âJust⊠get it over with,â he rasped, his voice cracking.
You pressed the final bandage into place, your hands gentle now, more careful. For a moment, you let your fingers linger, brushing against the rough skin of his shoulder as you finished. His breathing was shallow, but steady, his eyes fluttering shut. The tension drained from his body as the exhaustion finally won, leaving him vulnerable in a way you hadnât seen in a while.
It reminded you of when he used to sleep beside you. Jason had always been restless, even in sleep, twisting in the sheets, his mind never fully at ease. But there had been nights when he would finally relax, his hand instinctively reaching for yours, his head resting against your chest like he found his peace there, with you. You remembered how youâd stroke that same shoulder, feeling the warmth of his skin as you whispered for him to rest, that you were there, watching over him.
And yet, here you were, caring for him again.
He stirred slightly, a soft grunt escaping his lips as he adjusted, trying to find a position that eased the pain. His face softened with the kind of weariness that came from more than just the physical strain. You watched his chest rise and fall, the quiet sound of his breath mingling with the hum of the city outside.
Jasonâs hand twitched again, brushing against your knee, his fingers grazing your skin with a familiar yet distant touch. It made your heartache.
There was a time when you wouldâve done anything to keep him safe, to protect him from the worldâand from himself. But now, all you could do was sit there, hands still resting against his skin, wondering if either of you could ever come back from this.

You found yourself pressed against a cold, damp wall in what you could only assume was a room close to the belly of this labyrinth-like building. Breaths came in shallow, frightened gasps as the lights overhead flickered ominously, like they were trying to warn you of impending danger. . . Danger that you felt sting your chest like needles poking through your skin. The oppressive silence surrounding you was broken only by your intakes of air and the soft, almost imperceptible sound of something âor someoneâ (or maybe a mixture of the two, in this God-forsaken place) nearby.
Squinting into the gloom, a familiar shape emerged from the dark hallway, slipping into the room with you and pausing in the doorway. You felt relief take hold of you.
Mr Crawling. . .
That, of course, likely wasnât his real name, but you didnât speak in the language of clicks, noises, and chirp-like sounds that he did, and he didnât speak with your tongue either. It was for that reason in particular that youâd bludgeoned his head with a crowbar not long ago, to which he sulked in a corner, bleeding and whining, and you were left to feel terrible for hurting the first entity that had tried to go out of his way to show you true empathy in a way you understood.
Apologizing didnât even begin to feel like enough. Probably because you were at least ninety percent sure he didnât understand what you were saying anyway. Helping him with the wound perhaps made it slightly better. . . But also not really, because even now as he skims across the ground to where you are, thereâs a sense of guilt that weighs heavy on your heart.
Pale, grey-skinned and moving like any non-human mammal of sorts, his face is mostly obscured by the long, stringy black hair that falls in vine-like, clumped strands all the way to the floor from his hunched position. Thereâs an unsettling, animalistic grace to the way he approaches, but you donât flinch this time when he puts the flat of his cold palm against the crown of your head, as if trying to soothe your breathing. All of that initial fear has been replaced by a strange comfort of sorts, and you look up at him, thankful for his presence now more than ever.
He tilts his head, as if listening for something, and you watch him warily with the same crowbar clutched in your fist. A part of you felt bad carrying it around like that with his blood still smeared on it, but here, you knew it was foolish to venture around without a weapon of some sort. Not protecting yourself for the sake of his feelings was, unfortunately, not an option as far as you were concerned, but thankfully he didnât seem to have any opinion on the matter.
âMr Crawling,â you whisper softly, reaching out to take his hand into your own.
He seemed to really respond to physical touch, and if language was always going to get in the way, you figured it was best to bridge the gap in another manner. This was the next best thing you could think of.
His head raises, and you suppose heâs trying to meet your gaze, though you canât see his eyes through the mess of his hair.
âI need to understand you,â you say.
Ironically, thatâs a bit of a hopeless endeavor in this sort of environment. Itâs not like you have all the time in the world to pick up a new, completely unrelated language to yours while fighting for your life. Still. . . Gesturing had been helpful previously, especially for directions. The hooded figure you ran into first was quick to point around, that severed hand that had guided you for a bit was just as poignant in that area, and the silver-haired entity with a blindfold over his eyes had also tried to communicate with you in that sense as well. So why couldnât you do it vice-versa?
âMe,â you point to yourself, âyou,â you point to him.
He stared blankly for a moment, then seemed to come to an understanding. His had retracted from your head to point at himself, then to you, a clicking noise coming from the back of his throat. You smile. It was a small victory amongst a series of devastating losses, but you were keen on taking it and running with it as far as you could stretch it.
âOkay,â you breathe, talking more to yourself than to him. âLetâs try this then. . .â
Feeling a surge of determination, you touch your stomach and then mime eating.
âHungry. Eat.â
At this point, you were still too anxious to have an appetite, but you knew youâd need food eventually. You were hoping heâd be able to help you with that somehow. Up until this point, you hadnât seen any evidence of there being food around here, âno containers, boxes, or wrappings, but he seemed to understand your gestures and mimicked you; sitting back on his knees to rub his stomach through his filthy t-shirt, then nibbling on an imaginary item.
He looks back to you, as if seeking approval. You smile, hoping he understands that to be a sign of good will, then nod your head to drive home the association. Beneath his swath of hair, he smiles too, and you catch a glimpse of his eyes through the curtain of black strands; dark and thoughtful.
âGood,â you murmur, feeling slightly relieved.Â
If nothing else, this was progress. You spend a while longer trying to communicate basic needs and warnings: things like yes, no, stop, come, drinking, sleeping, and a thank you in the way of patting his head. Youâre not sure he understood the depth of it by any means, but he did seem to enjoy it. . . Like a puppy. The thought made you smile genuinely and absentmindedly, if only for a moment. The clicks and chirps he makes are mostly lost on you, but the noises are comforting nonetheless. This rudimentary bridge of understanding soothes you just a little, and you find yourself feeling very thankful that heâs here in the first place.
He has your face cupped in his hands now, as if heâs inspecting you. . . Or perhaps admiring? That is, until you feel his body tense and all his little sounds abruptly come to a halt. A small growl reverberates from the back of his throat and his wide smile droops into a frown. Suddenly, heâs roughly dragging you along, tugging urgently on your arms, to which you comply and follow along with him, scooting across the floor until you reach a shadowed alcove. You hadnât even noticed it before, but he seems to know his way around this place like the back of his cold, grey hand.
He covers your mouth for a moment, then shakes his head. You cover your mouth, take your hand away, then shake your head no, just to ensure to him that youâve understood. He pats your head then crouches in front of you, using his own body as a makeshift shield for yours. His long, spindly arms cage you against the wall. Fear rises inside you once again, though not because of him and his actions. Rather, the faint, rhythmic thuds of footsteps have begun reverberating through the hall just outside, and you recognize the harrowing pattern they click in.
Mr Scarletella.
You encountered him once before and felt every hair on your body stand on end. The way he moved through the halls with a menacing flow that sounded almost eerily melodic, and the strange, unsettling red glow that seemed to exude off him that nearly drew you in like a moth to a flame. The steps echoed off the walls of the building and your heart began to hammer against your ribs. Mr Crawling moved closer as he came into view through the doorway that lacked any actual door to close, his long, black hair tickling your nose ever so softly. Dressed in scarlet and carrying his ever-present umbrella, you decide quite readily that youâve seen enough, closing your eyes and focusing on the cool feel of Mr Crawlingâs skin, on his musky scent (like mildew and a bit of rot, which isnât necessarily pleasant, but itâs not like he can really help it down here.)
Though youâre no longer watching, the entity dripping in scarlet moves with an unsettling, almost predatory grace, glancing about the corridors as if heâs searching for something. Or someone.
Once again, Mr Crawling presses closer to you. Now, youâre able to feel the way his body trembles with fear, and you realize that heâs just as terrified as you are, though you canât tell if that fear is for himself, for you, or for both of you at once. And itâs not like you can ask. Still, you open your eyes just long enough to look up at him, Mr Scarletella in your peripheral as you force a smile and touch the crown of Mr Crawlingâs head, offering what little comfort you can. He still quivers, but seems to appreciate the gesture, though he doesnât risk a happy chirp.
The danger passes as the man in scarlet disappears down the hallway, then turns the corner. You let out a silent sigh of relief and Mr Crawling relaxes after several moments of continued tension, finally going limp and releasing you from against the wall. He slumps onto his knees, which seems to be his most comfortable position, and he looks at you clearly through the darkness. In that moment, it feels like youâve understood one another perfectly.Â
âThank you,â you whisper sincerely, though you know he canât really understand you.
Youâre just hoping the gratitude comes across somehow, but at the risk that it wonât, you touch your chest over top of where your heartâs still beating like a drum, then touch his chest in the same place. It dawns on you that you donât feel a heartbeat at all, and you almost pull your hand away. . . But something stops you. Something that says even if youâre right and heâs something less (or more) than human, âit doesnât matter as much as the kindness heâs shown you. So your hand lingers until you softly pull away.
He grabs your cheeks again and holds them delicately.

Father John Price has been acting strange lately.
It started as little things most wouldn't noticeâan odd slur to his words, far rougher than what you were used to hearing. A sway to his gait when he walked as if he was unfamiliar with the layout to the monastery. Gaps in his memory when pried for pieces of information that he should have known better than anyone else within the walls of the old building. Little slips. Missteps.
Nothing to worry about.
Not at first, anyway.
Not until it bleeds out, grows. Turns into touches. A searing, angry gaze drilling into your head whenever you look away from him. Ire lashing over each word he growls out in the alcoves he corners you inside, the guise of polite conversation falling to pieces when he slips his foot between yours, prying your thighs apart to stand between them. Towering over you as he rasps out commands for you to tell him about how you spent the evening prior on your kneesâ
Praying, you whisper feverishly, feeling the deep indents of the rosary beads imbedded into your fingers.
But that never seems to matter much to him. Not when the prayer is always an afterthought, and he makes noises like a wounded animal when you breathe out how long you stayed like that, and howâunable to resist temptation after gripping the rosary for longâyou had to slide your cold fingers under your robes, numb, shaking hands seeking the blistering heat between your thighs.
("not close enough to tempt the devil," you mutter, shamefaced, heart lurching when the noise he makes in the back of the throat sounds like a misfiring gun. "Butâ" he drops his head to the wall, heaving. Eyes burning into your temple as you stare at the crooked tilt of his collar, unable to meet his gaze. Scared of what you might find. "But close enough that I had toâto pray againâ")
And as the distant, unflappable mask of a seemingly incorruptible man begins to crack, breaking apart to unveil a yawning chasm, you find yourself trapped in confessional box with him after dark, quickly realising that the man you devoted your life to has fallen into that crater.
And something else has taken his place.

Can I request cute Dean fluff of him realising heâs in love with you when you take care or save Sam from something bc we all know that man would know heâs found the one when she cares just as much for Sam as he does

Youâre kneeling next to Sam, your hands moving quickly as you press a clean rag against the gash on his arm. The hunt had gone sidewaysâtoo many moving parts, too many variablesâbut youâd managed to keep it from going completely off the rails. Now, the three of you are holed up in a shabby motel room, the faint smell of antiseptic mixing with the metallic tang of blood.
Dean stands a few feet away, his hands gripping the back of a chair, watching as you work. He should be helping, should be doing something, but all he can do is stare. Thereâs a look of determination on your face, tempered by the kind of gentle care that makes his chest ache.
âHold still, Sam,â you murmur, your voice soft but firm. âI know it hurts, but this needs to be cleaned.â
Sam winces but doesnât argue. âIâm fine. Itâs not that bad.â
You glance up at him, arching an eyebrow. âOh, really? Because youâre bleeding all over my jeans.â
Sam chuckles weakly, the sound turning into a hiss of pain as you dab at the wound. âOkay, maybe itâs a little bad.â
Deanâs lips twitch at the corners, but he doesnât say anything. Heâs too busy trying to process the strange, overwhelming warmth blooming in his chest. Itâs not like he hasnât seen you take care of someone beforeâyouâve patched him up more times than he can countâbut this feels different. Watching you with Sam, seeing the way youâre willing to get your hands dirty to keep his brother safe... it does something to him.
âYouâre gonna need stitches,â you say, your tone matter-of-fact as you reach for the first aid kit. âDean, can you grab me the thread and needle?â
He snaps out of his daze, nodding quickly. âYeah, yeah. Got it.â He rummages through the kit, pulling out the supplies and handing them to you. His fingers brush yours, and for a second, he forgets how to breathe.
You donât noticeâor maybe you do, but you donât say anything. Instead, you focus on threading the needle, your hands steady despite the tension in the room. âThis is gonna sting,â you warn Sam, your voice gentle.
âJust do it,â Sam mutters, bracing himself.
Dean watches as you work, your movements precise but careful. You talk to Sam the whole time, distracting him with small jokes and reassurances, and Dean can see the way his brother relaxes under your touch. Itâs like youâve got this magic about you, this ability to make even the worst situations feel manageable.
When you finally finish, tying off the last stitch, you sit back on your heels and let out a sigh. âThere. Youâre all patched up. Try not to rip it open again, okay?â
Sam gives you a small smile. âThanks. You didnât have to do all that.â
You roll your eyes. âOf course I did. What kind of person would I be if I let you bleed out in a crappy motel room?â
Deanâs heart stumbles in his chest. He canât remember the last time someone cared about Sam like thatâsomeone who wasnât him. And itâs not just the act of taking care of him; itâs the way you do it like itâs the most natural thing in the world. Like Samâs life is just as important to you as it is to him.
You stand up, brushing off your hands, and glance at Dean. âHeâll be fine, but he needs rest. And food. Iâm guessing you havenât eaten since this morning?â
Dean blinks, caught off guard. âUh... no. Not really.â
You sigh, shaking your head. âAlright, Iâll order something. You two sit tight.â
As you step into the adjoining room to make the call, Dean looks over at Sam. His brotherâs eyes are already closing, exhaustion pulling him under, but thereâs a faint smile on his face.
When you come back, carrying your phone and rattling off a list of takeout options, Dean feels it hit him like a freight train. This is it. This is love. Itâs not just about how he feels when youâre aroundâitâs about how you make everything better. How you make him better. How youâd do anything for Sam, the way he would.
You catch him staring and raise an eyebrow. âWhat?â
Dean shakes his head, a slow, disbelieving smile spreading across his face. âNothing,â he says, his voice warm. âJust... thanks. For everything.â
Your expression softens, and you give him a small smile in return. âAlways.â
Dean watches you for a moment longer, the realization settling deep in his bones. Heâs in love with you. And if heâs honest, he doesnât think he ever stood a chance.

âof impermanence and devotion to your sacred withering bonesâ ; sunday
premise â heâll take pieces out of his flesh to mold into your wounds, bandaging you with his skin; he never liked seeing you hurt.
tags â established relationship, religious themes and metaphors, soft and loving sunday (i advocate), mix of the lovely trio (the fluff, the slight angst, and the comfort), reassurance from him, gender-neutral reader, never proofread, 1.1k ; one-shot
note â my parents chose thought daughter so now iâm writing fanfics on a thursday afternoon.
heâll love you like religion.
needlessly, tirelessly, with bruised knees and bleeding palms, with blood-shot eyes and clasped fingers, worshiping, devoting, yearning, calling to whoever will listenâto you who will listen. it suffocates him yet heâll clench at his chest and utter your name even if thereâs no voice in his being and he is left like a pathetic, whimpering dog that was made to be abandoned. heâll dig his own grave with broken nails and wounded hands, a coffin of tender touches, and the earth will fill his lungs and heâll hope for flowers to sprout from his mouth when he plants his confession into the dirt. can you hear him? do you hear him?
âplease take care of yourself more.â sunday says as he reaches for the bottle of disinfectant, pouring enough of it over the cloth he was holding to drench it before gently dabbing the fabric on the area of your wound. it stings and you hissed, clenching the sheets beneath your fingers as you watch him work.
âi only fell and scraped my knee, i donât think itâs anything that bad.â you say in defense to your clumsiness. sunday was all gentle and careful in cleaning and treating the wound on your knee as if you were a child and he was the nurse tending to your âbigâ wound.
(a god does not bleed but you do.)
he sighs, âit could have been worse.â and dresses your wound with a gauze, the material pristine white as no blood taints the material.
âbut it wasnât.â you rebut quite quickly, your gaze firm at his yet he doesnât meet yours. he is kneeled in front of you, an open kit by his side and a chair on his otherâand he chooses to be on the cold ground, his clothing slightly wrinkled and its appearance similar to spilled water on the floor beneath him. he never dares let himself appear as indecent with his disordered clothes and unkempt appearance in the form of an unsymmetrical coat and creased pants but here he is, in all his glory and messiness, laid out like the map of a devoteeâs heart before you.
(heâll beg even for a moment of your gaze but his cowardice will hold his head down to the groundâhe is never like this, he was never his own when you look at him.)
âwhat could have happened if i wasnât there to immediately help you? youâre too careless.â he scolds yet thereâs no hint of harshness in his voice, just gentle and sweet worry lacing into his tone. something lies, seemingly dormant, in the still air that embraces you and he finds himself waiting for something to happen.
âsunday, itâs just a small wound. you donât have to worry, iâm fine.â you assure him, hand cupping the side of his cheek and brushing your thumb over his cheekboneâitâs soft and slow, you feel warm, he feels warm. he leans into your touch, your hand soothing the tension that lies in his bones and his expression softens. silence settles in the room as he basks in the gentle affection that is bestowed on him. he holds your hand he turns his head to kiss the palm of it; his eyes are close and his lips lingered on your skin, comforting, relishing, soft, you.
âi have a question but before that, can you look at me, please?â
âi am,â he whispers, his lips beginning to trace your palm down to your pulse, all the while he keeps his gaze away and shut, âand my love, you never have to beg or plead for anything.â you know heâll give you everything.
(sometimesâalways, he feels like he is undeserving of the divine grace of your attention, of your affection, of your adoration, and you feel like your love is just a meager offering, unable to fulfill him. can you see him each other?)
finally, he looks at youâgolden eyes born from the sun meets yours. his halo is situated just right on his head, pierced wings behind his ears, and his hair reminds you of the sky above you that you once gazed into when you were a child playing in the fields, before you were deemed as his, and now your gaze is held on the ground right where he is kneeling down. stray strands of your hair fall over your eyes and the way the light kisses your skin makes you look delicate, ethereal.
âdo i love you enough?â you ask. have you ever been enough? have you done enough? is your mere and bare existence enough for someone like him?
âsince when have you not?â he answers, filled with gentle affection. his tone is akin of a devout preacher, reassuring like a verse from a scripture.
(sunday never thought of you as lacking, not with the broken and missing pieces of your skin, tainted and muddled by blood and dirt, left to rot in your wake like a sin unrepented.)
âyouâre the wine that overflows my cup,â he says, each syllable of his words carrying the weight of his utter and suffocating devotion, âand iâll continue to consume you even in death.â no grave will ever hold his body down.
you cup his cheeks with both of your hands, his lips leaving your skin yet the warmth of his kisses remains. âyouâre too good with your words,â you say, a small smile drawing on your lips, âperhaps youâre only telling lies to please me.âÂ
âmy dearest,â he murmurs, lightly grazing his hand against your ear as he pushes your hair aside, âiâll lay down my life for you, but i will never deceive you.â
(an unyielding faith of a martyr, his commitment is steadfast and his love is a fervent prayer, uttered and spoken only by him. his thoughts are spilled on the carpet, his confession ringing and echoing back to him as he repents like a sinner for loving you too much.)
âiâm a burden.â you whisper, longing for the feeling of his lips on yours. âiâm afraid iâm too much or too little for you to have.â
âiâm okay with that,â itâs a litany of devotion, his words a sacred vow heâll keep for eternity that will come, âi love you.â
forever become a burden, become human in a fragile and delicate way as if your heart is made to break, so heâll get to hold you in his hands.
