Hello! I would like to promote the RoChu discord server, and I was wondering if you'd be okay with letting us make a post on this blog. This seems like a good way to reach out to a lot of RoChu shippers at once. Please let me know if this is okay with you!
Hi! Absolutely, we’d be more than happy to promote a RoChu discord server. You can submit your post here. Alternatively, you could also tag the rochuweek blog in the post somewhere and we’ll reblog it. Either way works!
If you have any other questions at all, feel free to ask :)

Hi, I'm from the Discord chat! So, what ways are there to write the representation of a country which is so contradictory that you sometimes wonder how it's still together?
CONTEXT: My buddy here is actually asking on tricks to start writing the representation of their own country (The Netherlands, in their case) since they live in a really odd region and are self-conscious about making the entire country sound like that particular region, instead of a whole.
Those of my mutuals that know exactly in which part of Spain I live, will understand why it’s a worry I had to deal with as well xDD
So let’s get to…
“THE OH’S AND WOES OF WRITING YOUR HOME COUNTRY AND NOT MAKING IT LOOK LIKE IT’S THEIR ELBOW SPEAKING”
I’ll try to be as broad as I can, while talking also from experience, but in the particular case of the Ned, this post about Dutch Personality might be of use for you. It’s really great!
Also bear in mind, those methods I’ve learned in the past two years are actually plenty of work, but they work well if you are really determined to be very precise and focus on developing this one character. (It’s fun and so, so worth it tho ♥)
1. BASE PERSONALITY
The base is what we are gonna build the real personality upon. It’s also what we usually are able to grant the character when we are not developing them in the story but leaving them as a secondary; an overlook. In this case, we usually see them through the main character’s eyes.
So we have to do the same. When it comes to writing your own Hetalia Country the problem is that it’s really difficult to do it from within because we are used to look for the differences between our region and the neighboring ones. Specially in countries where particular regions have their own history and cultural traits. We are educated in the particularities of our region, city, even neighborhoods! And people love to look for reasons why their neighbors are dank weird. We focus so much on that that we forget to notice the similarities. In fact, they are so basic to us, we might just not know they exist and confuse them with general human traits!
From the outside it looks differently.
So for the base personality, look up on how the tourists, expats and your neighbors see your country. In most cases you’ll notice that they don’t really perceive any huge differences between the regions’ people and you will be able to compose a list of common traits.
Analyse each of them; discard those elements that you are 100% sure are bullshit and that are probably just a common belief. Think about the possible reasons behind every little thing. Is that how the country really is? Is it just how people might perceive it? Or… is it how it wants to be perceived? Why?
There might be cultural, historical, or even scientific reasons for that. And this is where working on your own country comes in handy. Because it requires a lot of inner knowledge that you already have. From school, pop culture, the news…
2. PARTICULAR TRAITS AND BELIEFS
Build upon that base personality with all the fine details! Since the problem here is not knowing whether something may be general or very particular, research comes in handy.
Sites like wolframalpha show you a lot of facts; categories, and both general stuff and some very specific. You can also look for world rankings, surveys, social studies… If the hetalia characters represent their population then the highest percentage is the right one for them. And if there’s a more equal divide on something (say: 49/51%) then it’s an opportunity to introduce a problem, a dilemma, in their life. Those are always hella interesting!
Basically - whatever unsure choice you make, look up how to justify it! This is more your yourself than for your readers. So you can be positive you are doing everything by the books and sleep well at night. In most cases you’ll know the answers already, but the numbers are always good to keep at hand! xDD
3. COMBINE REGIONAL TRAITS
Now, don’t discard regional particularities. Those are a GOLD mine of extras!! Beauty is in the details ♥
We already talked about this on discord, but the ideal is to make a list with the most prominent traits, traditions, pet-peeves, preferences and yes, also stereotypes, of each region. (Not by making characters for them, because then they’ll develop their own different personality, and you’ll get attached and they will not be useful for being combined into the Entire country) Just a list.
They don’t have to be of the same thing, just. What is every region more known for?
Is it that their people are loud and headstrong? Is it that they love cheese too much? Is it that they are lazy and love to party? Is it that they have that one monument that they are overly proud of?…
And I know some of these traits can be contradictory. But so are people. We react differently depending on our mood, the situation, or the people we are with. Combine and apply these traits and particularities in your character when you see fit.
Ex: Most regions are known for being always on time and others for being late? - What about the character being always on time for work but showing up late for social events? ||  Ex2: Some particular regions are known for being lazy but most are hardworking? - What about focusing their hard work on some tasks and being a champion procrastinator on others?
Experiment, combine… you’ll see that you know way more than what you think you do ^^
4. DON’T FORGET THAT THEY ARE NOT HUMAN
They are Hella OLD. Whatever great developments or changes happened in the past few centuries, they’ve probably lived through them. That builds character, knowledge and experiences.
Ex: Why choose one single “vehicular” language that your character has to speak? If A country has several official languages, the representation probably speaks them all and then some dialects to add on. They may use them accordingly to the situation and to where they are.
5. AND OF COURSE: LOOK AROUND! ♥
This may seem too obvious but it really is a crucial part of the process in this case. Pay attention to the media, the TV, your grandparents… make friends with people from other parts of the country (preferably also APH fans) and consult them if you are not sure… I made some great friends this way and I’m sure you will as well!!
Have fun!! :D
PS: THIS IS JUST MY EXPERIENCE AND HOW I WORK, BUT PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! IF ANYONE READING THIS HAS MORE TRICKS TO CONTRIBUTE, THAT WOULD BE AMAZING!
LET’S HELP EACH OTHER OUT ♥

@ Princess Katya, how often do you need to heal people Yao wounded in his... enthusiasm... to protect Ivan?
She wrings her hands nervously as she begins to speak “I will not pretend to understand the relationship my brother and the demon— I mean Yao have. I know Ivan made a deal with him, which means Yao serves him without question. And that Yao was in hell before being brought here, which is why I believe his a bit more…violent in the way he deals with threats to the King. He never leaves spies alive though, those he always makes sure are dead where they stood. And his shown many ways to accomplish that.” She sighs and shakes her head slightly in disapproval.
“ Dont get me wrong I appreciate that he protects my brother and he has saved him a couple of times from some serious threats that once left him with a sword to the chest. But he seems to perceive everything as a threat to Ivan. I’ve had to mend countless bones of those unfortunate enough to have gotten too close to the king. Yao also has a habit of flinging people across the room at high speeds without raising a hand, those always result in internal damage and concussions. I’m not sure if my brother has reprimanded his demon over his excessive use of force, but I’ll say this, there hasn’t been a slow day in the healing wards since his arrival.” Princes Katya then forces a polite smile.
((Hey wassup. Bless u for sending an ask lol. Yao is ready to defend his king from everything, even if sometimes the threat is a fair suitor trying to get Ivan’s attention.))

my attempt at @fruk-net‘s 2017 secret santa. this is for @somestorywriter, whose prompts were: 1. England is absolutely smitten with France, which he tries his best to hide. France, however, is very aware of it. 2. England finds France crying 3. Drunk!England shows up on France’s doorstep. hopefully i covered all of them in some way!
I. The first time England saw France, they were just children. The sun of the late autumn afternoon made France’s hair gleam like spun silk, and England had the sudden, overwhelming urge to run his grubby fingers through it. He crushed the strange desire down, and tried not to think about it again.
II. They’re at war, yet again. But despite the anger he holds for France (which, when he thinks about it a little too much, he’s not really sure why he’s so angry at the other nation), he can’t help but think how righteous and noble he looks among his men, brow furrowed in determination, his uniform streaked with blood and dirt. England thinks about undressing him, washing him, bandaging his wounds. He gets shot in the shoulder, which quickly rids him of any such thoughts and back to the task at hand.
III. It’s Christmas Eve, and England is home alone, yet again celebrating the holiday on his own. He’s lost count of how many decades, how many centuries, he’s gone through the festive season alone. A glance to his telephone - a new invention, one that he’s rather grateful for; he can’t count how many letters he’s sent over his lifetime - and he considers ringing France, to ask if he would like to do something together… But no, he’s sure the other is entertaining, frivolous as always, milling his way between humans, living like he’ll die as one of them. England shakes his head to clear his thoughts. He’s not jealous of them, certainly not! He doesn’t care that France will be taking one (or more) of the pretty women to his bed to celebrate the night. He doesn’t wish it was his lips being kissed, his skin being touched. Sitting down heavily in his favourite armchair, he pours himself a whiskey, not even bothering to water it down before he takes a sip. He isn’t in love with France - the idea is absolutely preposterous. He continues to tell himself that with every sip of whiskey he takes, until he drags himself to bed and passes out in his drunken state.
IV. It’s 1940, and England has just evacuated as many soldiers as he can from Dunkirk. He tries not to think how his heart is in tatters over leaving France on his own soil, the little pocket that’ll soon be torn apart by the invading armies. To see the Frenchman crying - not for himself, but for his people - it felt like part of his already shredded world-weary soul had been pulled away, left in France, like it could somehow be a scrap of comfort to the other personification. All he can do for now is pray that he can somehow get those French soldiers across the channel and to his own miraculously safer lands.
V. Phones are much smaller now, easier and yet harder to use, and still England doesn’t have the courage to call France to ask how he’s spending the evening and if perhaps he’d like to go out to dinner together, though it’s certainly not on a date! He knows he could text, but it just seems too impersonal… So he cracks open the whiskey again, and drinks, reasoning with himself that it’s perfectly fine to be an alcoholic when he’s lived as long as he has and seen everything he’s seen. Having the thought of texting France probably wasn’t the best idea though, because his clumsy, drunk fingers tap out I’m coming over and send it without regard for how sober England will feel about all this the next morning. He pulls on his shoes and his coat and heads out, navigating the streets with ease, until he’s standing on France’s front step and knocking on his door with a cheery little rhythm. The other opens it up within seconds, brow furrowed in concern. “You’re drunk, aren’t you?” he asks, one hand on his hip. England mimics him, laughing. “Perhaps a little,” he admits. “But sometimes I wonder when I’m not. I mean, I’m old, and I have a lot of things to deal with. Work, memories, emotions.” France snorts. “Yes, emotions indeed.” It’s clear he knows something, making England press his lips together into a thin line.  “What’re you implying?” he asks. “I’m allowed to have them, y’know!” “Yes, of course you are, Angleterre,” France says, “but I do wonder how you deal with some of them… One’s you have been struggling with for you. Do I dare to say you are in love?” England splutters, shifting to lean against the door frame to stop himself from sitting on the ground in his intoxication. “No. No! I most certainly am not in love with you.” “I never said you were,” the French nation says gently. “But it seems you have confirmed my thoughts. I’ve been wondering for decades, for centuries, when you’ll find admit it to yourself, and me.” He kneels down before the other, warm hands cupping stubbled cheeks. “There’s no need to deny it any longer. I love you too.” He smiles gently, before standing to help the other to his feet. “Come inside. Dinner is still warm. Food will help you sober up and then we can discuss this properly.” England blinks, his usual eloquence escaping him as he accepts the help and steps into the warm house. It smells like the other man, and good French food, and yeah, he’s nervous about the impending discussion, but a little part of his brain says sober England will be grateful for his drunk decision, and France’s ability to read him like an open book. There’s no use opposing it any longer. “I love you too,” he says with a inebrated smile, always more honest with alcohol in his system, a little bit of Dutch courage. “I always have, and I always will.”

About EMDR
@somestorywriter
// I thought I just make a post about it. This is MY experience to it. The therapist let me do some homework were I would write down some experiences that were most hurtfull, the most hurtfull at the top working down. I basically just had to gave them a title to keep them apart and a basic summary. We discussed what feelings attached to the events were most strong and blocking, for instance anger, sadness, helplessness,... and asked me to give the emotion a number from 0 to 10, 10 being the worst. Then with the actual session the therapist would give me a headset to put on. This gave beeping sounds, left, right, left... And asked me to picture nr 1 of the list. I didnt have to say one word about the event. I Just needed to picture it. This is stressfull enough I can tell you. After a short time the sound was stopped and I was asked what comes up to your mind now? Now what happends is because you activate both sides of the brain the memory is saved differently. Basically it's like you are defracmentating your hard disk. Nothing get's deleted it's just stored more effectively. You start to realise new things about the same event. After doing this a couple of times the therapist would ask me if the number had gone down. And it did. Now the great part is that other memories go down with it too. Because they are tied to the same feeling and they have to do with eachother. I felt that it was getting harder to focus on the memories and that my mind was drifting away to choires i still had to do that day and that the weather was nice. So the memory became less important. Once home new ideas would come up. I discussed these with my therapist. The days after therefore may be tiring. The negative emotion attached to the bad memory does not get worse again over time. But new things you start to realise, can ofcourse be annoying too. These are easier to deal with. I have to say that i am really good at picturing things. So if you are more word focused it might work less well.

Any recs for autistic Yurri or Victor?? -🌼
Hello Anon!
I have always been curious about autism, and I’ve added some of these stories on my own list to read. Here are my recs for you:
Jiheishou - autistic!Yuuri one shots, by SomeStoryWriter. 5 works with 6k words total. WIP.
A series of (unchronological) Autistic!Yuuri one shots. I’ve been walking around for quite a while now with the headcanon that Yuuri is autistic, so I figured I could at least give it a try.
Tangled thoughts, by ionlywritefree. One shot with 1.8k words.
Yuuri leaves one of his stimming toys in his bag. Yuri and Viktor discover it.
Alone together, by ionlywritefree. One shot with 2.7k words.
Yuuri has a panic attack before a competition and it takes him a while to realize that his idol is the one trying to calm him down.
You’re all I’ve ever known, by orphan_account (an autistic writer). One shot with 1.4k words.
Finals week leaves Viktor stressed out and impulsive; one of his impulses is confessing his love for his fellow Psychology major and close friend, Yuuri.
I will be right here, by Artdefines06. 5 chapters with 15k words. Complete.
Yuuri struggles with Autism, Anxiety, and being an Introvert. He has found a sport that he can excel in, even as he struggles to connect to his peers. When a new student joins their class they meet over the winter break and sparks fly. Will Victor have the patience to understand the puzzle that is Katsuki Yuuri? Will Yuuri even give him a chance, or will he decide having to make a new friend is not worth the possible difficulties?
The barista, the asshole and the retiree, by BertholdvonMoosburg. One shot with 11k words.
This last story doesn’t have a summary because it’s part of a series, but it can be read independently. I put only this work of the series on this list because it’s the only one that has autistic characters. I sounds like a good read though, and even has something on Victor’s backstory.
I hope you like my selections, Anon!
*reads about autism and thinks it’s amazing in a certain way*

Thank you for your wonderful contribution @turians
Oi, one of us has to at least know a few words. You should learn it with me too. We have 2 weeks. We can do it.
Yo, I have a question for you guys. I have a 5-day trip to Ichinomiya, Japan in 2 weeks.
Do you guys have any tips for me about the area or Japan in general? This is the first time I’ve ever been there.
Thanks!

“Ivan would recognize that beautiful blue anywhere. He would look at it in the mirror, swearing he could see actual stars in it. He used to wonder who that beautiful blue of his left eye belonged to. But that time had passed. He hadn't wondered about it anymore, until now. Until he saw this Lord Alfred with his own violet eye.”

What has been your favorite adventure together so far?
Demon Yao: Now what a lovely question! I wouldn’t say that we’ve had many adventures yet to be able to pick a favorite, seeing as my poor King is always in council meetings or overseeing the protection of his kingdom from threats. Though I do have one fond memory that comes to mind. It was during one of the rare moments in which my Lord wasn’t needed anywhere and ,as his demon, I’m always near by to keep him safe. He asked me if I wanted to see something special and of course I could never say no to him when he looks so excited (mind you I can’t really say no to him with the whole loyal contract). I believe he took me somewhere deeper into the mountains in which his kingdom is built on. It was inside a smaller cave room that he showed me the most beautiful garden I had seen in my long life. I knew my king had powers of his own, but I never thought they could be used to create such delicate plants. There were so many flowers hanging everywhere it didn’t even look like a cave, all of them were iridescent in color and emitting a soft warm glow. My king is a very unique contractor, but never have I had someone show me something so personal just so I could enjoy it too. I am not sure what my Lord was thinking at the time, though I do appreciate the gesture.
King Ivan: Oh, yes I remember that day, those flowers are rather special. My mother, before she had passed, had shown me and my sisters how to tend to them. When ground up and made into a paste they hold very unique healing properties that our doctors use to aid those who are sick. That specific garden I showed Yao was my mothers personal one, whenever she was stressed she would go there and help the flowers bloom. I go there now whenever I have the chance and I thought perhaps Yao would as well enjoy a place to relax, since I never see him rest or sleep.
((omg sorry for the hella late reply!! This was such a good question lmao I had to think about it . Thank youuuuuuu! ❤️❤️❤️))
