i draw so that a 15 year old years from now right out of her deltarune phase scrolling mindlessly for the next thing to draw during history class can perhaps, one day, see my art and say "fuck it lets watch (insert homoerotic show/podcast)"
i draw so that a 25 year old nonbinary person on a 5 minute break from work can scroll on Tumblr and say "people still watch homestar runner?" before mindlessly reblogging as there fingers were trained to do after a life of this.
i draw so that the teen boy who has to pretend to be homophobic around his friends can send the little pictures to his boyfriend because "you like that show right?"
i draw so that 6 years from now the woman I wish I would have had the chance to marry can go on my blog and find all my little pictures and laugh and say "you never changed, did you?"
i draw for my friend, T, who likes every post i make and comments on all of my tiktoks "i agree!" followed by some arrangement of shouting and fire emojis
i draw for my mother who doesn't quite understand what I mean when I go on frivolous rants on what happened in that show or game or podcast or book or fanfic but smiles because its rare she sees me so happy it simply must be shared, and so she says "That totally makes sense" in a sarcastic tone that to one might convey rudeness, but between us has a certain sincerity, a recognition of the mundane, and we laugh.
i draw for myself to look back and squeal giddy because I love the way it turned out
i draw for people who would be my best friend that I never meet because im too scared to comment on there posts
i draw for the people i have known as long as i can remember, the people i likely won't get to see until i die, because they like my art
i draw in spite of those who make me want to quit, i draw because i know they can't stop me, and I don't think they would want to
i draw in spite of my middle school sweetheart that I still text sometimes because I miss when we were friends
i draw in spite of people who called all my art rushed after hours of work
i draw for the boy I wished i would marry because I know he looks at the art I made of him and washes out the part of it that was me, so that its a hollow glass of his own self love, posted to his media pinned as a profile photo, claiming it's nothing but knowing that after it all, he hangs a picture painted by me in his room and my love will never leave his heart.
i draw for the man he will one day be when he pushes the things he did down to unpleasant memories, and he looks at that figure, and knows that at one point, he was loved enough for someone to make it.
i draw for the man one day I will be, looking through sketchbooks full of Homestuck ocs and Mario enemies with nothing but the indication of a smile as I'm flooded with all the love I had for so many things.
i draw for the man T will be one day, hopefully still a friend of mine, finding his silly notes disbursed through my notebooks. his doodles in pages perfectly reserved just for him. you know. cuz I love him.
i draw for the people who will pass my life only knowing the cool eye I was drawing in history class.
i draw for the girl who took up art after seeing the way I put pen to page
i draw for the family that cheers to see another work done by me
i draw for the people who will exist long after I have died so subtlety effected by the art had on so many other artists, so many people, even if they don't know my name, even if they will never see my work.
i draw because its fun and it helps me think and I like thinking of ideas and putting them onto paper and I like how the finished piece looks most of the time.

This may sound stupid but how do I turn off blazeable on my blogs?
And how is this bad? Again, I don't wanna sound stupid or rude. Thank you for the heads up :]
Hi! No worries, you're not the only one with these questions.
On how to turn off the option to get blazed:
On desktop you can turn it off at this link: https://www.tumblr.com/settings/blog/#blaze It looks something like this
Tumblr media
On mobile it's in the account settings menu, there's a lof of screenshots in the additions to my other post like here (i haven't updated since i got a funny little bug that lets me add polls in reblogs of other people's posts so i can't screenshot anything).
Alternatively you can also log into Tumblr in your phone's browser and use the link above there. Don't forget to do it on sideblogs that you don't want to get blazed as well! You can also change the settings per-post in the post menu. I've actually enabled it for my complaint post that's circulating because it would be really funny :D
On how it is bad:
With the way it is set up, people can blaze your posts without active consent. This can be used to bully people, by digging out old or not-adapted posts that were not meant for a wider audience and putting them on blast. This can include vent posts, opinions you might have changed since then, selfies, niche things many people might think are cringe (like 2014 self-insert omegaverse fanfics and the likes ... idk if you've seen the drama that resulted from someone blazing their fic, it wasn't pretty), posts that were only meant to circulate in your carefully curated audience, and more.
Since Blaze's are registered in many minds as advertisement many people will react negatively to them so this opens up a way to bully a lot of people. As usual, people of colour, trans people, and other vulnerable groups will get the worst of it, many are already getting deactivated regularly because of coordinated reporting harassment and since people donate hate organizations all the time they will definitely use the option to make the life of a person they're targeting living hell for 10$.
Staff thought of some safeguards but there are several fallacies:
The option to cancel a blaze before it goes live: Not everyone has access to the internet every day, and staff might accept the blaze while you're asleep / at work / on a trip / in the hospital / on hiatus. Then when you're coming back to tumblr your notes will have turned into a nightmare.
The guarantee that staff will check every Blaze manually to prevent harassment: Let's take the case in which someone's old fic get blazed against their will. How can staff know whether it was blazed with friendly intent (to promote a friend's work) or ill intent (to get people to point and laugh)? They can't as long as it's not against the Terms of Service. In general there will be many false positives (Blazes that get rejected by staff despite being innocent) and false negatives (Blazes that get accepted by staff despite being malicious). After all, the people working at tumblr are only human too. But in this case, false negatives will have devastating consequences - and extinguishing a blaze after it's live will be too late.
Many people don't follow @staff, so many people don't know about this change. In fact many people on that other post commented that they didn't know what Blazes are at all! I think i've read that they will add a login banner to tell you and check your settings, but iirc they had banners like that for the original Blaze function announcement so i don't have faith this will prevent anything.
I should clarify that i don't think the feature itself is bad at all, but it should be opt-in so only people who want to participate get blazed (e.g. art blogs). Or add an active mandatory confirmation by OP instead of a veto option, this would prevent the issues above as well, i think that would be the best option - that way people could leave the option on. I know staff are currently getting bombarded with support requests / flames (please be civil to them guys!) (also sorry. but not sorry. i didn't expect my post to blow up but also i think these are legitimately troubling concerns and i won't make the other post unrebloggable). They're aware of these issues so i hope they will change to one of these options - if they add active mandatory confirmation by OP i would enable to option globally as well (Hint hint this means more money for you, @tumblr, because otherwise many people have and will turn this feature off completely) A bit more time between announcement and go-live (4/20 iirc) would have been helpful as well.
Here's the original announcement by the way:
And since i'm gonna pin the post as long as the other post is circulating: Listen to goatbed guys!

Tips for Spn Artists posting on Tumblr 😄👍🏻
I see a lot of new artists posting Spn art and it can be a struggle to get your art out there. Or you might be new to Tumblr and not sure how best to put yourself forward.
I post Spn art and do a lot of bangs when my health permits. And I have picked up some tips that I have found helpful for posting art tumblr 😄 so I thought I would share.
Please feel free to take any of these points or leave them as suits you!
✨Personalise your header and icon. Bots will often make posts with popular tags and stolen art, to try and gain followers before throwing out the spam links, but some clues the account is a bot is not having personalised headers and icons, not having a long history of posts (more than a few days), and not talking about their art or fandom. So make sure you don’t look like a bot 😄
✨Interact with accounts you enjoy. Like, comment and reblog your favourite accounts and they will likely return the favour and you will get more followers. The first way your post gets noticed is by your followers. Interacting isn’t always easy if one is an introvert or doesn’t have much time for social media, but do what you can where you can.
✨If don’t have many followers then the next best thing is to use tags more. People follow key tags to find new posts from blogs they are not aware of. I recommend using the ‘Spn fanart’ tag on all your art posts. Also be sure to include: common ship names, the character names, and key words like: cute, funny, angst, angel, wings, etc 👍🏻 😄 this will help people find your posts, so be sure to tag consistently!
✨Make a personal art tag, it could be ‘your name art’ or something as wacky as you like. But tag all your art with it! If someone sees your art post out in the Spn fanart tags and they like it, they can click your art tag to see the rest of your art posts.
✨Don’t include links to outside webpages unless absolutely necessary. If you are posting for a bang, reblog the bang master post for the story which has the links to ao3, but then make your own art post and only link to the tumblr master post. Tumblr often hides posts with links to outside webpages (so that the porn bots sending you to spam websites get minimised, but unfortunately this also minimises links to ao3 or shops 😔). Links to another post inside of tumblr are ok tho! So to keep your art post from being hidden from searches, only link back to the master tumblr post with the story info. If people want to read the story they can follow the ao3 link from there. But it’s better that they actually get to see your art (the ‘advert’ for the story) in the first place so that they know it exists!
Also keep this info in mind if you are linking to your shop or your other socials. Your direct followers will see your shop posts but because of the external links the post might be hidden from searches. Consider doing a mix of posts with direct shop links and ones that get the info out there but link back to a pinned tumblr post or bio post with the outside link.
✨Don’t crowd your art. Many people view tumblr on mobile so your pictures will look small. People can’t really see the details if you put 2 images side by side. Put one image on each line and consider making some cropped images to show close up details of your favourite bits. You need to catch people as they are quickly scrolling past, so be sure that you make it easy for them to see what you are offering.
✨And finally don’t be afraid to do reblogs. It isn’t rude to reblog your own work, it’s helpful. Dashboards can get very busy and even if people follow you, your post might be burried a long way down if they don’t get back online multiple times a day. Reblogs will give them a chance to see what they missed. As long as you are not posting on the hour every hour, most people appreciate 2 or 3 reblogs at different times to save them having to scrolled back for days! 😄 and don’t forget that tumblr is multinational. Time zone reblogs can be helpful.
✨oh I forgot one more thing! Don’t put yourself down! No piece of art is perfect! Ever! But Michelangelo doesn’t start off by apologising that the statue of David is out of proportion. And neither should you! Let your work shine where it shines and don’t bury it in put-downs before you even give others the chance to enjoy its triumphs! You deserve better and so do they!
Those are the main points my friends. If you have any other helpful tips that you want to share, feel free to reblog this and add on points. We were all new to this hellsite (affectionate) at some point. And life is already hard for us struggling artists so whatever we can do to help each other is a good thing 💛
Stay awesome my friends, and happy Arting 🙌🏼😄

this was quite a while ago so my memory is hazy but it still sort of bothers me, so
AITA for making a quick comment about a ship dynamic(???) i didn't like in the ship tag?
before you jump on my ass, this isn't pro/anti stuff. literally just a matter of preference.
not going to mention the specific characters or media in question for pure anonymity's sake. i'm just going to assign arbitrary names to the characters in question for readability. let's say Albert and Bartholomew, or something. and the ship name can be Fucking BartBert I Guess.
"Bartholomew" had a traumatic experience in his childhood that had a very large impact on his mental state, let's say. as a fan of. um. "bartbert". i had noticed a trend in fan works of this ship depicting an AU version of Bartholomew that had never had this traumatic event happen to him. not that there's anything wrong with that, really. i just found it sort of strange and i was more interested in the canon character, additionally i found it sort of comforting to think that Bartholomew was worthy of love scars and all, so to speak. so i made a short post in the tag expressing pretty much that. along the lines of "why is there so much fanart like this? can't he be loved the way he is?" or something like that, and tagged it as bartbert because i wanted to see other people's thoughts on it. in retrospect it could've been read as dismissive or inflammatory i suppose but i really didn't mean it like that. i was just a little bit annoyed and confused by it.
fast forward a little while and this person comes into my notes saying something along the lines of "for some reason i can't reblog this on my main, but it's because people have been nice enough to make fanart of the AU that i made." i didn't think i knew this person at all, so i essentially just responded trying to assure them that i don't know them and wasn't trying to attack their art or them personally or anything.
i'm not sure exactly what happened after that because it's been like 2 years but in essence, i had actually blocked their main a few months before, because they had been posting about that AU and i didn't like it, so i just blocked and moved on like i usually do with stuff like that because i didn't want to see it in the tags. i probably didn't even realize at the time that they were the creator of the AU. but this person pointed out that i had their main blocked as like, evidence that that post i had made was a personal attack against them, or something like that?? of course i didn't mean it in that way, i had just blocked their main months ago and forgotten about it, and i wasn't even really trying to be rude but they blocked me before i could try to explain myself.
i remember this whole thing pretty vividly because i was at the zoo with my family that day and feeling like i was being accused of something i didn't do, or being called mean or being picked on by someone with a much larger following than me presumably, just for making a single post the night before was really stressing me out on what was supposed to be a fun day. in addition i ended up leaving the fanbase for the work in question entirely pretty soon after because i didn't want people to think i was weird or mean. it's sort of colored my recollection of the work in general, which sucks because i do still really like it.
in retrospect i'm honestly not sure if what i did was wrong or not. i suppose i shouldn't have put negativity in the tag but also i feel like you should be allowed to express negative opinions the same as positive ones, right? as long as you aren't being a jackass about it. although at the same time i can sort of see their perspective because i think if i saw a post like that about something i had made i might've jumped straight to being defensive about it, too...
but anyways it's one of those memories that creeps up on me while i'm trying to go to sleep, so,
was i the asshole?
What are these acronyms?

🏆 how long i've been roleplaying for + ⭐️ my roleplay pet peeves!
Tumblr media
𝐌𝐘 𝐄𝐗𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐈𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐄 𝐈𝐍 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐑𝐎𝐋𝐄𝐏𝐋𝐀𝐘𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐌𝐔𝐍𝐈𝐓𝐘   ┇   accepting ♡
🏆 how long i've been roleplaying for?
i would roughly say 3-5 years with large gaps in-between because of my personal life. i was probably 16-17 when i first joined the RPC with my friends ♡
⭐️ my roleplay pet peeves!
some of yall are about to be real mad at me...but it must be said!!
following but never interacting. i will never understand why i used to get followed only to be ignored for almost a month straight?? it's frustrating AF to deal with because i make an effort to communicate through liking their headcanons, sending a message, reblogging prompts for them to respond IC if they're not comfortable talking OOC and posting starters but all i get in return is radio silence. there's no point in following someone if they're never go to showcase their interest towards me.
people who follow me without reading my rules. it's the bare minimum. it's my only requirement. i can ALWAYS tell when somebody doesn't read them. the lack of respect is icky.
a villain is a villain. do not follow me if you cannot handle her rude comments or disturbing actions. please don't expect her to be nice just because your muse is 'special'. louise will not care...unless you're a monster, but that doesn't mean monsters are safe from her wrath if they end up provoking her.
when i see a RP blog with no tags. it's so difficult to navigate and find specific things like prompts/memes. i will not bother checking out a tagless account.
people who refuse to interact with OC's. why?? do people not know canon characters were someone else's OC?? the math ain't mathing!!
people who use AI to generate a reply or create meaningless artwork. i'm strictly anti-AI. i believe suffering for your art or writing is what makes it so... relatable to me. there has to be REAL tears of passion otherwise i'm not moved 😭😭
needing internet validation 24/7. it's SUPER exhausting telling someone they're good enough to write only for them to discard it. i know we all have our bad days but it gets to the point where it becomes overwhelming and sets off my anxiety.
DNI MINORS!! i am a GROWN adult. i wish more minors would actually hang out with their age group instead of trying to interact with me. i only interact with muns over 21+ for a reason!!
posting too much negativity without tagging it or putting it under 'read more'. for the sake of my mental health, i will soft block. the same goes with drama because i do not want to be dragged into someone else's problems or start the day off with negativity.
people who only see female muses as sex objects and nothing more. i put my entire SOUUUL into louise's characterisation. she was always sexualised by DC in the past but i see her as a complex character in desperate need of flourishing. plus, she's a killer not a seducer. louise did not come here to flirt. she came here to start chaos.
personals who spam my account with likes and reblogs. this one gets on my nerves A LOT!! it's why i had to turn off the reblog feature and hard block them on sight.

RAIN I MOVED BLOGS SO NOW I DONT HAVE ANY SILLY MUTUALS TO REBLOG MY FANART OF MY NICHE HYPERFIXATIONS AND THEY SIT THERE WITH 0 NOTES WHAT DO I DO ITS LIKE I MOVED TO A NEW NEIGHBORHOOD
Tumblr media
genuinely? post a LOT. post all your infodumps and theories and doodles, even if you don’t think they’re that great. tag them with every relevant tag you can cram on there. (it feels obnoxious, but people WANT to see your art. as long as you’re not tagging unrelated stuff like people do on instagram, you’re good.) follow everyone who posts things you think are cool. reblog tons of stuff from other people in the fandom and leave tags/comments. interacting is scary, but listen:
do you know how rare it is these days to find people who say words on here and don’t reblog with no addition or just leave a like? if someone i don’t know leaves nice tags on one of my posts i’m bound to at least check their blog out briefly.
i categorize my fandoms by tag mostly for blacklist convenience, but this also means anyone who enjoys one post i made on the topic can click that tag and see EVERYTHING i’ve posted on it. including reblogged stuff. when other people do that and i see their blog has a lot of recent stuff for whatever i’m into, i’m likely to follow them back. of course, most people don’t follow as liberally as i do (900something people iirc. i don’t know most of the people on my dash haha). and even i don’t click on every blog that interacts with me. so if you don’t get a follow back, don’t be discouraged!
other tips- having a tag for your art or original posts can make it easier for people to find it. i have an art tag, #drawing anonymously, with what i believe is every art piece i’ve put out here. even the ones i don’t like at all. obviously it’s your right as an artist to take down anything you post, but you never know whose day might be made by what you deem your worst works. besides, this gives potential mutuals the ability to find more stuff by you that they’ll then reblog, sharing your work with OTHER potential mutuals. and boom, your network grows.
another thing that helps is joining fandom discord servers. it can be hard to find a good one, but even if you’re not getting much of a reaction, this is a place designed to drop your art, infodumps, writing, theories, what have you. use it. and if some stranger is rude about you sharing your passion, you can simply ignore them or wait for your lovely mutual to go “erm aCTUALLY that’s what this channel is for :/“ on your behalf. and that way you’re exposed to the art and ideas of people who you haven’t seen on tumblr, too!
now, i’m no expert. i’m just a neurodivergent blogger who’s had a single post consisting entirely of screenshots break 1.5K notes. but this is what’s helped me personally get attention (and make friends!!!!!) on here. and hey - i’ve got a TERRIBLY over-the-top tagging system and people still follow me back now and then so i must be doing something right.

Welcome Stranger
Hi, I'm Yan and this is a blog for posting art/lore for my oc Donnie. Please read the rules before you follow or send an ask. Note that english is not my first language, so there might be some spelling mistakes.
THE RULES/WARNINGS
This blog is 18+. Even though it probably won't be often or explicit, some nsfw content will be featured on this blog. By nsfw I mean sexual references and some kink content. So if you’re a minor or uncomfortable with this stuff, block me (respectfully).
No discrimination of any kind. Transphobia, homophobia, racism, ableism and other  kinds of hate speech or discrimination are not welcome here.
Be respectful towards me and others. Please understand that I am a real person behind the screen and I have other obligations beside this blog. Don’t start fights with me or people in the comment section.
I am a stranger to you. Please understand that I don’t know you personally. Please don’t send me “friendly” rude messages, trauma dumps, vents, rants about how much you hate/love something/someone or ask me for irl advice.
Don’t be too vulgar. Even though slight nsfw is allowed, explicit stuff is crossing the line. I don’t want to see porn of any kind or hear how much you want to impregnate my character. I also don’t like when people swear too much.
Don't send romantic/sexual asks about Donnie's beast form. Base and hybrid are fine but flirting with a dog is a bit too much for me.
This is not an omegaverse blog.
OOC or // means out of character.
Don’t repost my art. Reblogs are totally welcome, but reposting my art without credit, claiming it’s yours, using it for nft/ai, using it to harass others is not allowed.
Put warnings in tags when making fanart. I get uncomfortable too, so if your art includes things that are upsetting for me, please include appropriate tags. If you don’t want your art to be reblogged by me, please put something like ‘Yan/Donnie don’t reblog’ in the tags.
I will update the rules if needed, so check them from time to time.
Things that make me uncomfortable: self harm, suicide, verbal abuse, pregnancy, cannibalism, explicit gore
About the world
The world is inspired by the game series Coffee Talk, you can feel free to ask questions that reference the games. It takes place in a modern day nonspecific European country (I like the aesthetic of romanticized pictures of NYC or LA but I’m European so I don’t know a lot about America).
About Duncan
Donnie Caddel
25, he/they, incubus/werewolf, bisexual, single
He initially was a DnD/Pathfinder character but I much prefer this modern au. I still will post art of him as a fantasy Barbarian.
Personality traits: sad, sweet, soft, playful, kind, affectionate, patient
Background:
Donnie lives alone in an apartment that once belonged to his mother. She moved in with her boyfriend and left the place for Donnie to inhabit. His income mainly comes from his work as a barista at a rock bar. He also releases his music on streaming platforms and produces pornography of himself for subscription service. He has a passion for music, especially rock, metal and indie stuff. He has several friends from college with whom he still keeps contact. They sometimes gather together to play ttrpgs or party. However, gatherings like that are seldom, so he feels pretty lonely since he spends most of his time with customers or by himself. When going outside, he likes to dress in a gothic-esque maner. At home, he wears whatever is clean in his closet, and of course, he dresses formally for his barista job. He is fond of cooking and tries to eat healthy. He very rarely consumes meat, but he does eat fish and sea products regularly. Donnie struggles with depression, however he’s getting better since he started his medication. He has a pretty good grip on how to control his transformations, but when he gets overwhelmed by emotions it’s much harder for him to control it. He only transforms into his beast form outside of the town.
In short: lives alone, barista/musician/sex worker, lonely, likes cooking, pescetarian, depressed.

Idk if this is allowed but I'm here to break the rules‼🗣
Tumblr media
An amazing fic writer you all should know is this girl called Cass, also known as  @notroosterbradshaw
Her series "The Boyfriend Experience" completely changed my brain chemistry bc it was the first fic I felt actually & truly compelled to talk to the writer about it directly. I was still kinda shy at the time and was afraid to be a bother by DM'ing writers and she was just so so so sweet 🥹🥹🥹🩷🩷🩷 it was my first interaction with a writer and I'll never forget it okay😌🌹
I wrote an extensive text about this series and it has a special place in my heart. (I should re-read it again actually)
And although Cass lives in the other side of the planet and we've been mutuals for about 3 months, I feel like I've known her for so long 🥺 she's the sweetest and I love her dearly
That's my mutual right there bitch‼‼‼🗣🗣‼🗣🗣 I'm so proud of you babe, keep slaying
— with love, nyn 💌
Tumblr media
Nyn, you dream. I have looked at this every day since you sent it and it just makes me smile so wide. Thank you for being so damn sweet x
I was actually not going to post this. I had a couple of asks that came to me directly and the intent of this challenge was to boost our friends in the fandom. I'm publishing this because I know that special effort was put into those who sent asks (some real heart and soul stuff and I couldn't be so rude as to not acknowledge the effort). To those who sent asks, remember your creators love the kind words, and they cherish every keyboard smash, meme, art, and comment/reblog. To those who've been tagged, remember that there is someone out there who thinks you're the bee's knees. It might be hard for them to come off anon. Your language may not be the same and the effort put in to send affection is a massive task. Give and take makes the fandom go around.
Please remember to be kind. Remember you curate your own experience. Thanks to everyone who was a part of this challenge. This will be the last ask I accept, but if you have joy to share, go to your creators and let them know. It's amazing how you can make someone's day but just saying hi.
And on that note, this challenge is now closed. Thank you to all that participated. It's been so much fun to do with you. Fluffy challenge on it's way soon x
notroosterbradshaw’s 3k-ish follower celebration (we done x)

hiii~ i'm trying to migrate from tiktok to tumblr because i heard that the precure community is way larger here [and i refuse to use twitter] your blog and another blog are always posted on tiktok but the other one doesn't have anonymous questions or whatever on so i wanted to ask you!! what is the etiquette here for interacting with content creators and also what blogs are the ones to check out and which ones should i avoid because i'd really hate to follow someone and then find out all the tumblr girlies think they're a creep?? OTL sorry if this is like a dumb obvious rude question it's just i've never used tumblr before so i don't want to interact with a content creator the wrong way and end up blocked lol thank you if you respond and also i love your cure butterfly icon it's so pretty <3 <3
i...get posted on tiktok? wha- how does that even work oml
i do think tumblr might be the 2nd biggest platform for precure after hell twitter indeed
for CCs... it's a bit difficult to know whose stuff you'd be interested in. i don't think there's anyone who posts exclusively precure (i don't either) so if you only want to see that you can browse the precure tag. if you like someone's stuff give them a follow though! i don't know anything about "creeps" but i've been on this website for over 10 years so my blocklist and blocked words is massive lol. i'm just chilling over here making gifs.
tumblr etiquette:
i see a lot of new people be confused about this but reblog NEVER repost someone's content. there are those 2 arrows at the bottom of every post, that's a reblog. downloading someone's gif/art then posting it to your blog is a repost and it's VERY frowned upon.
generally people like to add extra commentary in the tags instead of on the post itself, though there's a sort of comment section under posts now but not many people use it.
general rule of thumb (for any social media site really) is to stay away from takes you disagree with. just scroll by, don't say anything, don't insult them. if you REALLY disagree with what they are saying, block them.
CC interaction is kinda odd here, most people are pretty introverted. usually creators will appreciate if you send them a nice ask that you really like their stuff (though they might not post your ask) but the most common way of doing that is by putting praises in the tags cause they'll see it in their activity feed.
hmmm, i dunno if i answered everything properly but it's super late here so mb, you can shoot me another ask if you have more questions~

Lately I've been given the feeling that my support for someone isn't worth as much as others and my first thought was that I hope I've never made someone feel like I do now.
I get uneasy too. I know the feeling of putting a piece of myself out there and hoping for the best or just to not get pushed down for it. I, too, sometimes post something and think 'oh I bet my x or y mutual/follower will like this', judging by our usual interactions, and peak in the notes every so often to see if they saw and reacted to it, and get a little disappointed if they didn't. But I always try to rein in my thoughts, it's my battle with the dark thoughts, and I appreciate every like and reblog and tag and comment. They help me fight them back better.
Idk, I've never been popular, so idk how it is to have hundreds of reactions to every artwork. I've seen them get nasty ones too... the more popular, the higher chances of some rotten apples getting in the garden as well, so yeah... I guess not all support is equally genuine there. I am quality over quantity. It's a lonely place to be, for sure, but at least I can trust the ones that have given me their support have meant it and I appreciate each one of them, especially if it has been continuous.
I've tried to reach out from my shell more often than usual, to show appreciation and friendship, done so respectfully (don't recall being rude but there's always the possibility of being misunderstood, I guess??)... I tried to be understanding, not insisting, not take it personally when not replied.... I've simply left a piece of my love in their inbox like a cat leaving a dead mouse gift on their beloved human doorstep. Its up for them to take it or leave it, my love for the art piece itself doesn't necessarily weaken but I am sure more reluctant from further engaging when basically told it doesn't matter as much as someone else's.

Skill issue/You get the audience you deserve. When browsing the web for 40k content, I often feel the same way. It is a sea of stale memes and TTS references so far removed from the source material that it can hardly be called 40k anymore. But that is not the space I have cultivated my blog to be. Sure, my top 3 posts are two shitposts and one meme, but that is not what I am known for. I do a lot of deep dives, what-ifs, fanfic, and art, and they regularly get several hundred notes. The audience is out there; you just have to attract it.
The first thing to realise is that most people use social media to relax. The vast majority want something calm and brain-dead to pass the time, and that is fine. Memes give easy notes, and you, as a creator, have to decide if that is the audience you want to cultivate. What you put out there will attract who comes to you, and making a switch isn't always easy, simply because it isn't what they are after. Sometimes, that means you have to build up your reputation from scratch because you have branded yourself as "the meme guy".
Regarding notes, and how to get them, most people who look at your post will likely never interact with it, even if they are your followers. Even my most popular post doesn't hold a candle to my follower count.
Take polls as an example. Here, the issues become very transparent. A poll with thousands of votes often has just 100ish notes, and most of those are likes. That is how the game works.
(ok, I'm a numbers guy; bear with me here, I'm making a point) I get, on average, somewhere between 500-1k notes a day, depending on how active I am. Out of those notes, perhaps 1% are discussion-worthy comments and thoughtful reblogs, and those reblogs are what make it all worth it for me. So quantity doesn't necessarily negate quality. Sometimes, you have to pump those numbers up to be seen by your people. Because unfortunately, if you have low numbers and that 1% hit rate stays static, you won't get a lot of good interaction, simply based on math.
So, how did I manage to get a fantastic following (realistically about 20ish) of people who regularly comment/reblog with added value? Well, simply put, I got a lot of followers. But how do you do that? Well, I embraced the social aspect of social media. I have this small band of mutuals whose opinions I value, and I make it known to them that I care about them (well, at least I try). I interact back; we banter, and we have fun.
But I also always look for new people. I'm often scrolling the 40k tag, looking for new people who seem to have fun thoughts and theories, nicely painted minis or gorgeous fan art. And I reach out to them first.
I have had countless people tell me it can be intimidating to talk to a bigger creator. It is like being invited to a party where you don't know anyone. It's very difficult to just barge into a conversation unprompted. Wouldn't you want someone to approach you first? We, as a community, must lower the barrier to entry if we want fresh blood to join us.
However, the most essential point to getting good discussions is whether your blog is a safe discussion space. I have cultivated a space where discussion is encouraged. I often leave my post on an open question, making it easier to tag along. I leave space for disagreements; I try to hold my ego in check (unless the person is talking entirely out of their ass). And if someone says that the argument is getting too heated or they don't respond, I step back. Passion can easily be read as aggression online.
But that does not mean I let anything slide. Part of cultivation is knowing when to prune. If someone reblogs my post and is rude to one of of my followers, or just brings unneccecary negativity, I block them. Fandom is supposed to be fun, if you make me sad, you got to go.
I've had some alt-right peeps reblog my stuff and have immediately booted them. They can be idiots in their own space, but not here. I have even blocked some people who haven't said anything themselves, but whenever they reblog my stuff, there is a sudden influx of this kind of reblogs. If you make chuds feel comfortable reblogging your stuff. I have opinions about you as well.
Ok, this is becoming a wall of text, but to summarise: Be what you want to see. Be nice and welcoming, especially to new people. Sometimes, it is a numbers game. Make people feel safe interacting with you.
I could go on and on about this, but I feel like this is the most important.
Looks at notification.
And here is my problem with my blog.
I post interesting ideas, stories or pictures, no interaction, maybe one or two likes, a reblog if I am lucky.
I post a meme? My feed explodes with likes and reblogs.
It's fucking depressing and shows that so many of my followers rather laugh at something stupid than pay attention to anything I put effort into.

hi, i can tell some of my followers are from twitter, so here's some tips:
LIKING a post increments the note counter and lets the original poster know you saw the post.
liking art is appreciated, but does not get more people to see it. liking vent posts is also a way of nonverbally patting someone on the back / nodding along sympathetically. likes basically just give the original poster the info that you saw their post and felt the need to interact with it in some way but didn't have anything to add and didn't want to share it.
REBLOGGING is the main verb of this site. the etiquette is hard to nail down for newbies, and i think it's the second hardest thing to grasp for a lot of people.
reblogging is extremely important. if you do not reblog posts, the posts will not be shared, and there is no other efficient way to spread posts. your dashboard is populated by people you follow (if you have every algorythmic recommendation turned off, which is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to curate your experience; those who use tumblr regularly and have for years have "based on your likes" and "best stuff first" turned off) and if you do not populate your followers' dashboards then they will not have any reason to follow you. they cannot see posts you have liked on their dashboards.
if you do not reblog posts and only like posts, you will be assumed to be a bot and blocked. even if there's evidence you are a person, going through someone's whole blog and reblogging absolutely nothing while spam liking for a half hour straight may very well also get you blocked. every like shows up on the op's feed AND in the blog you're browsing's feed. be polite!
when you comment on a post in the main post body while reblogging (not in tags or in replies), that comment will stick to the post and be seen when others reblog it. it's considered rude to add a comment to the main post body without having something meaningful to add, whether it be a joke, more information, or continuing a discussion. commenting something like "yes, lol" adds clutter to OP's notes and the notes of whoever you reblogged from, and others down the reblog chain will have to manually remove your junk comment.
be kind! reblog! share! there are other ways to comment on posts, like...
REPLYING which is an alternate way to get your comments to stick to a post semi-invisibly.
everyone who opens the notes can see your reply, like when you open replies on twitter, but it won't show up attached to the post, like twitter. this also pings the op and the person whose blog you left the reply on. it's useful for questions or conversations that you want to have but don't want on your blog! it's great to add feedback to a post without sharing it.
THE TAGS are the most difficult part of tumblr culture to grasp for a lot of people.
tags can be used as organizational tools (for instance, categorizing pictures or fandom posts or your own posts) and can be browsed either exclusively on your blog or globally. if you put organizational tags like #photo on a reblogged post, it will not show up in the global tags, but will show up when you look at the #photo tag on your blog. if the post is original and not reblogged, the post will show up both in global tags and in your blog's tag, so if you search #photo on either your blog or the search function, it'll show up.
however... tags are the primary way people comment on posts. it is a tidy way to say "lol" or "OH MY GOD???" or make a small, potentially funny quip that you don't want to stick to the main post. commenting in tags is customary and will make you look more like a local. if the post is funny, it's normal to say in the tags "i snorted" or "i am on the FLOOR" or something like that. you can say pretty much any comment in the tags as long as it's broken up between multiple different ones.
if you want someone to know how much you appreciate their art, leave a comment in the tags and the op will see it! your tags also show up in the notes of the person you reblogged from, so, for example, if you wanna say hi, you can say "hi [friend's name]" and they will see it in their activity. (i recommend using DMs for this though, lol)
if you never ever talk in the tags and never ever make your own posts, people will have no clue who you are and will have no clue what you think or what you want to create. if you enjoy that, then go ahead! but talking in tags is how you make your blog your own without your comment sticking on others' reblogs. it's also a way to mumble under your breath on your own posts, make little additions that people can see on the original post but not on reblogs!
i recommend really trying to get to know how to talk in tags instead of adding comments directly to posts you'd like to share. it helps everybody!
aaand that's all i've got

Quick tips on how to engage with art in a meaningful way--by just some guy
Hi! You may be wondering why I've gathered you all here today. Well, I haven't seen any posts about this making the rounds recently, and it's a pretty big thing for me, so I figured I ought to grab my bootstraps and do some hauling, you know? Preface: this is intended to boost interaction with artists that are going to see what you say; don't bother, if someone is reposting their art or the like. As well, unless someone says critique is welcome, don't go for hard critique; that's mean and rude.
Tips and tricks are as follows.
Take a moment to stop scrolling and actually look at the art. There's lots of #content out there, but art isn't exactly the same as a listicle. Someone put time and effort into it, whether it's a lovingly hand-sculpted 3d image of Bowser's cock, or the Amogi as the twelve disciples. It's worth the effort to just look at it for a while.
If you're going to reblog it, try to notice something you really like. This goes more into the analysis side, and analysis is a skill that I'm not equipped to teach for all mediums. If it's a drawing or painting I can though, so think about the composition, the lighting, how the lines or lack of lines work. Do you really like the detail the artist put into that one thing? The outfit a character is in?
Let the artist know in the tags or in your reblog. Yes, we read tags. I'd advise not being playfully rude, unless you know the person and are certain they're okay with it. Your complements don't have to be coherent. It's at this point that you should take any negative comments you have and discard them; if you really, really want to critique the artist, please ask if they're open to that before you do. It's a weird boundary, but a lot of us are just having fun.
You can always say something feral but positive, *if* you're sure it will be recieved right. I'd generally advise that if you and the artist don't speak the same first language, it's a good idea to err on the side of caution. You can tell me you're going to eat my art! But if someone doesn't know what that means, it can be genuinely threatening; that was a problem on...Pixiv, I think, a bit ago?
If you're going to critique an artist, don't just tear them down. Try to do a compliment sandwich--say one nice thing, one thing that needs improved, and another, separate nice thing. Focus on what the art is trying to do, and how it accomplished that, rather than what you think it should be trying to do.
Have fun with it! I know engaging this way can be an absolute pain in the ass, but here's the thing: every piece of art you see took genuine, concentrated effort. It was time and work. We don't put art out there without hope, most times; we aren't robots producing content in an endless, mindless stream. I referred to it above as content, jokingly, but I'm not a content creator, I'm an artist. They mean different things. Please treat art and artists with respect and decency, and please consider letting us know what you think of our art.

As a response to your post about the likes and reblogs :
People don't owe you anything. Education about how it works is good, but the way you're doing it is kind of rude? If people like your art they will support you. If they have a specific type of blog and it doesn't fit that blog, but they want to like your post and they keep your name saved somewhere so they can find you on other platforms, then they will. If they don't care, they won't like or reblog.
Do you really think making a huge deal about it is going to cause people to actually reblog your stuff? Because it is in fact very off putting. Perhaps second guess your choice on how you word things. Asking in a kind manner is generally the way society will go out of their way to support you.
No one wants to support an someone if they are threatening not posting, if their followers don't reblog, No matter how good they may be. Regardless of how things were in the past.
Just some advice. Take it or leave it.
I literally just screenshot 3 posts from 2013 and you’re out here writing an essay why exactly ????? Pls do tell what is rude about me saying that in the past people reblogged posts and now they don’t because that’s literally all i said
anyways this is the second hateful message im getting bc of that fucking post, if you find 3 screenshots so off putting then just block me
update: i see that you sent this exact same message to the OP of that post (and im going to assume to everyone else who commented on that post) so please just block every content creator on this site if you hate us so much

Hello to TGCF fans fleeing Twitter! I'm not planning to leave until it actually becomes unusable (I'm demihualian there as well), but I'm fairly active on here. I post short Hualian/Hualesbians ficlets I've written, and I share other users' Hualian/Hualesbians fanart, ficlets, and jokes.
My profile contains NSFW. If you're a minor, please don't interact with me. If you want to see NSFW, I try to mark my NSFW ficlets with the new mature content labels, so please go change your mature content settings, which are set to "hide" by default: Settings -> Account -> Community Labels, on desktop, or Settings -> General Settings -> Content you see, on mobile.
There are a few important things to know about Tumblr and its culture, if you've only ever used Twitter:
You may have heard that Tumblr has changed its ToS to allow porn. Unfortunately, it still does not allow explicit images depicting sexual acts, even though I understand written porn and suggestive images are allowed. Please be aware of this, and don't unnecessarily endanger your account!
Likes don't have a function here beyond telling the original poster you saw and liked their post. Your likes won't show up on people's timelines ("dashboards"). It's best to reblog (retweet equivalent) any posts you like!
In general, Tumblr is much less algorithmic than Twitter. In general, people like that. The content you see is (apart from ads and the semi-functional "for you" tab) a chronological timeline of original posts and shares from people you follow.
Many people block blank accounts, since there's an ongoing problem with porn bots here. It's best to give yourself a profile picture - maybe your favorite donghua closeup! - and, again, reblog any posts you like.
It's considered annoying/mildly rude to add comments like "this is such pretty art!" in the text of your reblog, since when someone reblogs that post from you, your comment will come along. The best option for those comments is the tags. Your tags will show up in the original poster's activity!
If you turn on notifications for a blog, they'll show up in a separate "Blog Subs" timeline/dashboard, which you can turn on in the "Labs" portion of your settings! This works kind of like a Twitter list.
You can make sideblogs here, which are blogs connected to your main account. They won't have their own timelines/dashboards - you can reblog directly to them from your main dashboard. People often use these to separate out their fandoms, but you can also just put everything on one blog.
Tumblr doesn't have public following/followers counts. No one really cares how many people you follow or how many people follow you.
Most people here are friendly, but some may be hostile, just like on any social media. Please block those people! You owe rude strangers nothing. Take care of yourself.
With the new ToS, I hope that Tumblr will become a haven for danmei fandom. I'm looking forward to finding new people to follow, so please interact with this post (or follow me, if my blog interests you) if you plan to post/share mostly Hualian content! I hope that you all will have a good time here. <3
