Someone said there wasn't a lot of Frieren fanfic and I looked and there's barely 250 total on AO3 and now I'm like.
I have a Frieren plot bunny.
I could write a Frieren fic.
(Bandit. Finish. The rough. Of OAFC.)

I just read your post about fern and frieren, and the parallels with himmel. In fact, I have a theory that Fern could be the reincarnation of Himmel. My theory is based not only on the parallels, but on the second ending that you break down, both the video and the song. The red ribbon has always been used to represent destiny, mostly talking about soulmates. It doesn't seem like a coincidence to me that it begins with Himmel's death and that from something that appears to be a coffin or box under the ground, surrounded by a red ribbon, an eye emerges that is transformed into a butterfly, which, as you already mentioned, is an obvious representation of the fern brooch. This butterfly flies without apparent direction just like frieren...on a red ribbon again. Until they are both found by the blue flower (for me, a clear reference to himmel), where the butterfly transforms into a fern and absorbs the flower, once again surrounded by a red ribbon. Although it can only be about the past and the present, I also think it could take on another meaning if we take the lyrics of the song from the perspective of Himmel or his soul, and not as Frieren. The song also mentions reincarnation and finding oneself again. The fact that Himmel did not leave any pupils and the fact that Fern is not, as such, Heiter's pupil, makes me think that Fern is not the "replacement" for anyone within the new group of heroes. The fact that both Himmel and Fern met Frieren since their childhood. I believe that soulmates do not need to be romantic, nor do they need to be aware of a reincarnation (the lyrics talk about there being no promise as such, yet choosing to be in the present). In short, a huge number of parallels... that all they do is feed my probably erroneous theory hahaha. Forgive me, I was very excited to see that someone else noticed the coincidences and I wanted to tell you that I appreciate it. Keep sharing your enthusiasm for the topic, there will be someone here to support you. Even if it's not in a romantic way, it seems strange to me not to see a name from this ship. Is there a name for them? If not...what do you think of?

OMG I love this theory! My jaw was on the floor reading this the first time.
I've obviously been too busy singing along to the ending theme to actually think about the lyrics, because the chorus absolutely supports what you're saying!
だから もう一度 生まれ変わろうとも
また 私はここを選ぶんだろう
だから あなたと また巡り逢ったら
もう離さない 今を選ぶんだろう
If I could be born again
I'd likely choose this place once more
So if I meet you again
I won't let go, I will choose the "now"
I was stuck thinking of the song exclusively from Frieren's point of view, but since she's so long lived it doesn't make much sense to think about her being "born again"- so it absolutely takes on a different meaning if you think about parts of it from Himmel's perspective.
(For anyone else reading who doesn't know off the top of their head, the song is "Anytime Anywhere" by milet. Most translations of it online are very awkwardly worded, so if there's any inaccuracies it's my fault because I'm translating it myself)
I'll have to get back to you on the ship name. Fern and Frieren have a lot of letters in common so combining them is tricky. (It would be convenient if JP fandom had already come up with something but I haven't looked)
