love how my two alien hannibal au’s are near identical in concept (last of his species that lives on earth and will already knows of the existence of aliens bc of personal experiences with them and is obsessed with documenting Hannibal’s species and their near extinction, also an entomologist in both which helps with the plot), but are through two completely different lenses/genres. let me explain.

au 1: horror genre one where hannibal is a parasitic alien hive mind species who comes to earth to both assimilate all of humanity into his hive and claim a mate that he can breed to repopulate his species (aka Will) and infects Will early on, but allows him to keep control of himself as a sort of incubator for the parasite to spread and give him access to the whole hive mind which drives him insane. (this one’s gonna be REAL nasty with the descriptions and a horrifying and disgustingly described mating scene)

au 2: general sci fi genre one where hannibal is the last of his species and came to earth in the 1920s after killing the entirety of the rest of his species out of rage for them killing and torturing Mischa (is also obviously a multi galactic criminal bc of course he is), and where the FBI knows about aliens and Will is assigned to the alien crimes unit to catch alien serial killers. there’s also a network of humans who help aliens settle on earth and hide them from the FBI and as a kid Will’s family was part of it and used their house as a sort of halfway house for aliens to stay for a while and interact with humans safely, which was Will as a baby through his teens (they’d be tested around human children with Will to help them socialize). Will becomes obsessed with Hannibal’s species and their sudden extinction and works with alien historians to preserve their culture and language (hannibal is still an insect species in this and Will’s entomology knowledge is key here), as well as document other alien cultures. Jack doesn’t know he does this (and the network helps cover for Will) and Will helps aliens in the FBI’s possession escape and resettle somewhere safe.

eventually, they meet each other and Will immediately knows that Hannibal’s an alien, and highly suspects that he’s part of the extinct species he’s dedicated to documenting, and hannibal knows immediately that Will is a safe person and eventually, after a few sessions, Will snoops around Hannibal’s library and finds books that he brought to earth with him in the language that Will is nearly fluent in (he can read and write it, but can only speak the barest of basics of it because humans don’t have the bone structure or muscles in their jaw to properly speak it since the speakers are insect based), and discovers that hannibal is the last of his species.

they bond after Will reassures him that he won’t turn him in to Jack (hannibal doesn’t tell him that he destroyed his own species and instead comes up with a lie and doesn’t tell Will that he’s a criminal), and hannibal decides that he’ll take Will as a mate eventually. basically they eventually do the complicated mating ritual that then makes Will part alien (bc of how the ritual is) and Jack finally catches on. there’s more stuff in between this and the end, but in the end they kill Jack and Alana and flee earth and they go on the run together.
