Hear me out- VIP reader and Frontman In-ho
Reader goes up to In-ho and is all like “I’m bored, can you entertain me?” And bro goes “You shouldn’t be bored, and I’m not really on the table for entertainment, but I’ll see what I can do” then ensues actions n shit. Really most of this is dealers choice in everything that happens, I just want more VIP reader content <3333
Uhhh I love it!!! I hope I understood what you expected from this!
A better show
Fem reader VIP x Front man
Tumblr media
Summary: You are looking for better entertainment than just shows where low-class people die.
Warning: Nothing explicit but some innuendo, flirting, some submission.
N/A: I've only written smut once in my life HAHAHA, I hope you like this.
Money buys happiness.
Or at least that's what everyone around you had told you for as long as could remember.
You were disgustingly rich and beautiful but few dared to approach you for fear of rejection or your bodyguards.
You wanted action so when they talked to you about financing some deadly games for entertainment you accepted, however, this was only your third year attending as a spectator and fell asleep during the second half hour, if it weren't for the wonderful liquor they served you would surely be snoring.
Once again, you were a spectator as the players played lut, you were bored but the only thing that made you come back every year to that place and wear a heavy gold-plated honey badger mask was to enjoy the presence of a certain masked man dressed in black.
There was something about him posture and voice that captivated you, you could even swear that from time to time he saw you too.
And you were right, In-ho looked at you sometimes, she was the only woman who was part of the VIPs and your bored expression throughout the show seemed intriguing to him.
All these men were disgusting and to him you were a beautiful flower growing in a pond of dirty water.
Even though he had never seen your face even once.
Although of course, you also had a certain selfish and classist character, you had only learned what you were taught since you were a little kid.
They both looked at each other and you, with a smile that showed your white teeth, snapped your fingers and gestured for him to come closer.
However, he sent one of his employees to which you quickly denied —No, you —You pointed the finger at him specifically and he had no choice but to obey you.
Maybe the alcohol was taking its toll on your system but this time you were feeling bolder than usual, just to be sure, you took one last big sip from your glass as he stopped next to you.
—¿Do you need anything? —he asked cautiously.
That deep voice and the scent of him perfume made you sigh and squeeze your legs together.
Yeah... you'd definitely had enough alcohol for tonight.
—I'm bored, ¿can you make this night more entertaining for me?
From the way you looked at him and the pout on your lips, In-ho immediately knew what you meant, but he decided to play with fire a little, nothing in this life is easy.
—¡Uh!... It seems our dear badger wants some honey —said the man with the lion mask using a playful and funny tone.
You ignored him, you were now too focused on getting what you wanted to get angry over a few rude words.
—I apologize if this bores you, but I'm in no position to entertain, I just maintain order and make sure the guests are happy.
From your posture he could tell that you didn't like that answer but he also knew that you wouldn't give up.
—I'm a guest and I'm not happy —You faked a smile—I'd be happy if you sat down with me, believe me, I'll make sure you don't get into trouble.
The silence in the room lasted a few seconds, In-ho felt the gaze of the other guests on you but that didn't stop him from continuing to challenge you.
—I repeat, the entertainment is not my responsibility, but if you agree, I will look for way to... satisfy you.
Front man walked to his podium and made some motions for someone to take charge while he took care of you.
After a few minutes he turned to you and extended his hand with chivalry and elegance.
—¿Would you like to accompany me to a more private place?
You smiled under the mask and took him gloved hand as you stood up.
—Gentlemen, I say goodbye for tonight, you guys keep enjoying the trivial spectacle.
You said calmly, despite the exotic environment you were in you still maintained your education and manners.
—¡Have fun! —the man in the buffalo mask exclaimed, followed by a loud laugh.
"They are idiots" you thought, letting yourself be guided by the handsome masked man.
You two took a few more steps until you reached a somewhat colorful room with a huge sofa in the center.
—After you —he said softly, giving a small bow and leaving a chaste kiss on the back of your hand.
You could only feel the cold material his mask was made of but you kept quiet, the simple act made your heart warm, it was ironic how you called him just for some fun but this man could make you shiver with a couple of non-sexual actions, it was just him.
Once you walked in and looked around at the bright colors you heard him close and lock the door, then you felt his presence behind you.
He very delicately placed his hands on your shoulders and pulled down your golden robe a little, revealing the bare skin of your neck, collarbone and shoulders.
In-ho paid attention to your breathing, that way he would know if he was doing it right or not, he took off one of his gloves to allow you to feel his skin touch you.
—¿Can you take off your mask? —You murmured curiously.
—I'm afraid that would be impossible, our identities are protected for security reasons.
You sighed and turned on your heels to stand in front of him, not allowing him to say or do anything you placed your own hands on golden mask and removed it revealing your face.
Once you dropped the mask to the ground In-ho remained silent, observing your features.
You were younger than he had thought, your eyes looked at him with desire but at the same time confidence and longed for affection, ¿how bad did your life have to be to look for affection in a stranger with a mask?
When you put your hands on his covered face and tried to remove the mask, he stopped you and walked away from you to the couch and grab a black cloth bandage.
—If you want me to take off the mask, you'll have to cover your eyes.
It wasn't a fair deal but you accepted it just because you were starting to get wet just from him attitude.
[...]
The soft sound of your breathing as he kissed the skin of your neck was the only thing that could be heard in the room, In-ho was sitting on the couch without his top clothes on, his lips leaving a trail of wet marks on your neck and his hands resting on your hip.
You felt so vulnerable and surrendered to him as you straddled him lap, naked and blindfolded.
You were used to having control over everything, giving orders and other things but this feeling of knowing that someone else could have control over you, could move you or manipulate you was new, it was exciting.
You let out a gasp as you felt the leader's fingers move closer to your core, teasing you a little.
—You're very anxious, ¿how long have you been waiting for this?
The mockery in his words made you shudder, you moved your hips against him searching for friction but he held you firmly with his other hand.
—Don't move —He whispered in your ear —You asked me to entertain you and that's what I'm going to do.
Seeing your red cheeks and your half-open mouth made In-ho feel his pants tighter than usual, yet he remained calm and continued playing with your center, enjoying the lewd sounds you gave him.
Their lips met in a hungry kiss and you finally had the chance to move your hands a little, which went from being on him chest to descending towards the belt of him pants.
With a few deft movements you got rid of him belt and pulled down his pants with a little effort.
He moaned lowly as he felt your hand caress him, if you could see him you would have seen the lust in his dark eyes and dilated pupils.
—I need you, now —You almost begged, it was pathetic how you begged for more from this man whose face you hadn't even seen.
—Ask me to give you what you want.
He still wanted to continue playing with you a little but he was also as eager as you so as soon as you said "Please" he lifted you up a little and positioned you so he could enter you without any effort because of how wet you were.
In-ho closed his eyes and a soft growl escaped his lips as he guided your movements on him, he would have loved to look into your eyes as you rode him like this but his identity was above that, or at least for now.
Besides, a certain part of him was also excited to be a secret from you.
With his free hand he grabbed your hair, made a small knot and tilted your head back to have access to your neck once again, while you increased the pace of your jumps he was in charge of leaving red marks on your skin.
When he felt you tense up he made you stop and without letting you go he turned you both around so that you ended up on the couch, this time he on top of you.
He began to thrust into you, at first it was slow, letting you feel every inch of him and then he was a little rougher, slowly increasing the speed and strength, your screams of pleasure were music to his ears, your nails scratching his back was another of his favorite sensations.
He placed your legs on his shoulders forcing you to take him completely which made you arch back and moan even louder.
—You are such a beautiful mess... —Lust and desire dripped from his words, he wasn't lying, having you like this under him and causing your screams was almost enough to make him finish inside you but he refrained from doing so, he wanted to keep taking you —You will be completely mine for this night.
He put one of his hands on your neck and squeezed lightly, cutting off your air flow and causing you to moan muffledly. The speed of his thrusts slowed down a little only to pick it up again and after a few seconds you reached your climax.
—¡Oh fuck! —You screamed as soon as you finished and your legs shook, however a soft squeal left your lips when you felt him hot sperm fill you.
It felt so good, this was definitely better than those crappy, boring games.
In-ho was breathing heavily and his face was completely red but he still didn't want to let you go, he had already tasted you and now he wanted more.
They both wanted to continue.
So you didn't refuse when he pulled out of you and made you get off the couch just to kneel in front of him.
—I have never knelt before any man —You said confidently and with an arrogant smile on the side.
—There's always a first time —He wrapped his hand in your hair and settled back with his legs spread on the couch —Now open that pretty little mouth.
You obeyed him without objection and when he could feel your warm mouth around his member it made him throw his head back with a moan.
It would be a long and entertaining night.
Now you can make sure you don't miss any year of these games and he'll be more than happy to give you that pleasure you longed for.

Kang No-eul / Guard 011 Headcanons

Pairing: Kang No-eul / Guard 011 x fem!reader
Warnings: Mentions of drinking/alcohol, other than that it's just fluff, not proof read (english isn't my first language)

જ⁀➴ Working that shitty job as a costume performer at your local amusement park was hard enough, and the money problems that plagued your every thought were making the situation worse. Most of your co-workers would go out for dinner together after your shift, basically only to drink their problems away and forget about this hell for a night. The only one who'd also stay behind like you was No-eul. You didn't know much about her, as she'd be super secretive about her life, but you at least knew she was a nice person.
જ⁀➴ One time after work it was literally pouring outside, and since you didn't own a car or an umbrella apparently, she offered to take you home with her. You guys hurried over her car and got in as soon as possible and only then you noticed that it seemed like she was living in here. Looking at No-eul, you could tell that she was slightly embarrassed, so you didn't bother mention it or asking about it — Instead, you thanked her a thousand times and more for taking you home.
જ⁀➴ From then on, she'd drive you home one or two times a week so you wouldn't have to take public transportation. At one point, you invited No-eul in, offering to cook dinner as a thank you to her. After a few times it became a regular thing and she actually seemed like she was enjoying it, a smile replacing her usual stoic expression. You also never quite understood how she was so good at her job, entertaining the kids and all, when she was the complete opposite when taking the heavy costume off.
જ⁀➴ She'd help you out in the kitchen sometimes, often catching herself staring at some old childhood pictures of you that you hung up on the refrigerator.
"Oh, that one is cute." No-eul mumbled, pointing at a picture taken at one of your school's dance recitals when you were quite young. "Huh? Oh yeah," you turned around to the picture she was pointing at chuckling a bit, "I was like what? Maybe three? Four? It's one of my mom's favorite pictures, though." You didn't get a reponse back. When you turned around again, No-eul was still staring at it almost longingly.
જ⁀➴ Back at work, you were the only person she'd talk with during the breaks. Some of your co-workers would ask you how you gained her trust like that, since No-eul didn't even speak to them directly at all. You'd just shrug, not knowing how to answer them. Perhaps it was a bit strange how much she seemed to like you, but you certainly weren't complaining.
જ⁀➴ After some time, she'd open up to you about some of the things in her past and she explained her reason for living in her car with that she simply didn't have the money for an apartment. Apparently, she urgently needed it for something else, but she wouldn't tell you more about it. Just the fact No-eul was ready to share bits of her private life with you made your heart feel warm. You liked that she felt safe around you, and she did, too.
જ⁀➴ It got really late one night, so you offered her to sleep over at your place, since you probably owed her so much in gas money anyway. With a bit of hesitation, she'd accept, a genuine smile gracing her face. She was kind of forced to sleep in your bed as well, since your couch was just not big enough for one person to sleep on. No matter how much you apologized for that, No-eul would reassure you that this was more than fine and that she was really thankful you did this for her. She'd take your hand to squeeze it a couple of times to emphasize her words, even.
જ⁀➴ It felt like you two were teenage girls again, having a sleepover while you got ready for bed. No-eul showing you real emotions like happiness, excitement and gratefulness was so weird but also very appreciated by you. You never thought you'd come this close to her, shoulder on shoulder while laying together in your bed. Neither you or her minded it at all though and that was evident through the comfortable silence between you two. Not much had to be said in the moment for it to not be awkward.
જ⁀➴ When you woke up the morning after, No-eul was gone. You had figured that she'd probably be prone to do that, but you were still a bit baffled when finding the spot next to you cold and empty. She needed to get something done, that's at least what her text message said. This was typical No-eul, even if this was the first time this had happened.
જ⁀➴ No-eul wasn't able to get you out of her head. You were so irreducibly kind, soft spoken, pretty and just something that sge wasn't. Even back in the car she couldn't contain a smile when thinking about you, the conversations you had, your laugh, your face.. it wasn't like she didn't like it. She just wasn't used to this feeling at all ever since leaving her home years ago. But perhaps, just for you, she'd be ready to get used to it again.

five: carousel
The first mission they took you on was nothing short of a disaster.
It should have been simple, was simple, a quick extraction to get a microchip from this decimated group of criminals operating out of an abandoned toy store that Nat had discovered through one of her contacts. You were only supposed to tag along to get a feeling for being out in the field, an additional pair of eyes just in case things went south.
Did they ever.
Not only was the chip accidentally destroyed, your ensuing panic got you stuck for a good twenty minutes until the world started spinning again. Steve fell down a full flight of stairs when you reappeared out of thin air next to him the moment it did.
Needless to say, you went into hiding as soon as you got back to the Compound.
She gave you about an hour before the hatch in the floor boards opened, even though for you, it was much longer. She didn’t know that, though. You sat very still, your breath finally silent again. Maybe she didn’t know you were in here.
"I know you’re up here, Y/N."
You pulled the cape off your head with a sigh. Natasha grimaced.
"Don’t do that, I’m not talking to a floating head," she said with a shudder. "You know how weird that is?"
You huffed and let her pull the fabric into her lap, watching your own limbs reappear, your arms hugged around your knees. She sat down next to you, leaning against the wall with her eyes closed. You watched a spider scatter away from you.
"How did you even find me?" you asked quietly after she made no further attempts to speak to you.
"My sister had a similar hiding spot when we were little." You could hear the smile in her voice as she said it. "And you kicked up quite a bit of dust."
She didn’t elaborate on either of those things and you didn’t ask, even though you wanted to. Anything that could get your mind off what happened.
"Do you want to talk about it?"
"Yeah," you said dryly. "That’s why I’m sitting in the supply closet."
"That’s exactly what I told Steve." Your face fell again, but hers didn’t. "He’s alright. Or he will be, once he forgives me for laughing at him for five minutes."
That didn’t make you feel any better. "I fucked up today," you said softly, your voice still rough.
"You didn’t do anything wrong."
"I did, though. I literally froze as soon as things went wrong, and the chip—"
"Is expendable," Natasha interrupted calmly.
You shook your head. "I only mess everything up for you guys. I’m not a real agent, and my powers just make things worse, and I should just—"
"Do you realize that this thing you were given can be a gift?" You cringed and started turning away, but Natasha reached out for you, a gentle hand on your arm. "I mean it. You think every time you’re unable to use your powers is your personal failure, but you don’t see how every time you are able to use them is precious."
There was a delicate hue to her green eyes, a weariness that was visible even in the dim light of the closet. For the first time, you had the feeling she let you see something she usually wouldn’t.
"Our lives … they’re hard," she went on. "Unpredictable. We live on borrowed time. And you get to have more of it. That’s …" You waited for the words you’d heard before. Invaluable. Instrumental. Priceless. "Beautiful."
You swallowed hard. "Is that why you took me on? For the team?"
Nat looked at you for so long you were almost sure she wasn’t going to answer your question. Then, she said, "I took you on because you needed a reason to get up in the morning."
You stared at her, your nails digging into the palm of your hand until it hurt more than the ache in your chest. Natasha kept looking at you as she continued.
"I lost a lot of people over the years, you know. But never like this. Never this many at once. Something like that …" She trailed off, her eyes wet. "The entire planet was grieving and struggling and blaming us, because at that point hardly anyone understood any of it apart from the fact that the Avengers were involved. And then one day, out of nowhere, a letter materialized on our doorstep, and the security cameras didn’t show a thing." Her grip on your arm tightened, as if she needed to steady herself. "Do you remember what you wrote?"
I’m sorry for your loss.
You’d struggled to put it down for days, because how else could you apologize for something you might have been able to prevent had you only been there instead of hiding? In the end, you’d only added your name and the address of that diner in Brooklyn where you picked up a few shifts after their waitress had been blipped.
You’d gotten a call less than twenty-four hours later.
"You were the first person to say that," Nat continued, because she could see the memories flit across your face as easily as others watched a movie. "And yet, when you got here, you looked as guilty as if you’d personally murdered every single one of the Vanished."
"Well, if I’d been with you—"
"Stop it." For the first time, her voice was sharp. Your mouth fell closed. "We’re all trying to do better, right?"
You could only nod.
"That’s all anybody here is ever going to ask of you. And sometimes 'better' is just getting one hell of a kick in during a mission. Don’t think I didn’t see that."
You smiled ever so slightly. "I have a pretty good teacher."
"Yeah, you do." She shoved your shoulder lightly. "You can’t do more than show up and do your best, honey."
"My best looks like a dead possum next to yours."
"Then stop looking at me." Natasha got up to her feet slowly, patting you on the knee when she did. "Unless it’s for a post mission wind down because I have a movie queued up and I know where Steve hid the cookies."
"Can I have my cape back?"
"Nope." She folded it up with the green side out, letting it hang loosely over her arm. "You’re supposed to use it to hide from your enemies, not your friends."
You didn’t attempt to argue further, warmth rising to your cheeks.
"Nat?" She turned again, halfway down the hatch, caught by the emotion in your voice. "Thank you."
Her smile told you that, as always, she understood.
*****
There simply isn’t a world in which you can do this even one more time. It’s too much.
"You need to sort out your priorities," Sam says, zero sympathy in his voice. Bucky has the audacity to look amused.
"I’m serious," you say, looking between the two of them. "My day is bad enough already. I don’t care where we order, but it’s not going to be Italian unless you want me to puke on your cat."
Over the past couple of weeks, you’ve eaten your way through the entirety of your pizza place’s menu. If you have to smell the rank cheese Sam likes to order one more time, you can’t be held responsible for your actions.
"How about sushi?" Bucky says, and you almost start protesting out of habit before you realize that for once, he’s not arguing your side. You turn to Sam with an expectant grin.
"Fine," he grunts, shaking Alpine off his trouser leg as gently as he can while his nose twitches. "I guess Russian Doll has the right to choose his last meal."
Bucky frowns at him, but you gasp in delight. "Are you finally joining us in dark humor land, Sammy?"
He flips you off wordlessly as he leaves the room and you chuckle to yourself, pulling up the sushi menu on your phone. Alpine starts nibbling on the bandage around your foot that’s stretched out on the couch and you wiggle your toes a bit. It seems to entertain her.
"What," you ask when the staring becomes unbearable.
"Nothing."
When you lift your gaze to meet Bucky’s, his jaw is clenched again, his eyes fixed on you with a distant expression in them. You tilt your head, and he lowers his.
"So what’s the plan?"
You send your part of the order to FRIDAY and put your phone to the side. "I have to get back to Strange to figure out how to stop this loop from happening again."
You’ve almost felt sorry to see your series of library heists break, even though you have no reason to feel his way. This is progress. Strange’s offer to help has been genuine enough so far, even though you hate paying him in answers.
Now that he’s not deliberately keeping you out anymore, getting to the astral plane has been a lot easier, at least, even though emptying your mind enough to cross over without a prior emotional breakdown has still proven somewhat difficult. Weirdly, it’s easiest on the couch.
Bucky nods shortly. "And what do I do?"
"Whatever you want."
He scoffs. "Right."
It makes your insides twist. "Bucky, as much as I hope that today is the last time we’re doing this, I can’t guarantee it. So you should just, I don’t know, enjoy yourself." You cringe even as you say it.
"I wanna come see Strange."
You blink, watching him clench and unclench his fists slowly, deliberating. The golden parts of his arm gleam in the sunlight. "Why?"
His voice, when he speaks, sounds haunted. "I can’t just sit around and do nothing."
Something in his voice sticks with you as you lie down on the couch and stare up at the ceiling. You’re not even sure if what he’s asking is possible.
"No, it’s not," Strange says bluntly. "Not as long as you’re in the loop."
"Why not?"
"Stop asking questions and focus."
With a roll of your eyes, you raise up your arms again. So far, you’ve spent most of your so-called lessons trying to make sense of the cryptic texts Strange makes you read and then summarize like you’re in fifth grade. If you’re not doing that, you’re talking him through the events of your July 4th, or explaining your powers to the best of your abilities, going through the motions and habits you’ve taught yourself over the years. It all feels like you’re revealing something very personal for someone else to judge.
You don’t care much for any of it.
"Again."
"Is this supposed to teach me something new?" you ask, turning your thumb and first two fingers upwards again while your other hand balls into a fist by your side.Threads of sunlight glittering like spun gold. You take a breath and shake your head.
"Do you feel anything?"
Annoyance. You bite your tongue and reach out, carefully, like you would to a scared animal, searching for that old familiar feeling.
It takes a while.
Dim, at first, but clearly there, vibrating deep in your veins, hesitantly stumbling towards your hands like it was suprised, too, to be called upon again. Softly glowing embers slowly filling the void you’ve grown so hopelessly accustomed to.
You open your eyes to find the tiniest green spark dancing across your fingertips and almost laugh in relief.
"Interesting," Strange says.
You flick your fingers softly, once, twice, letting the spec of power grow until it’s the size of a pinhead, cradling it softly with your other hand as if to protect it from a gust of wind. Slowly, bit by bit, it settles back into your skin, and you feel it tingling all the way up to your ears.
Strange contemplates you for a long moment. "When did you get that cut?" he finally asks.
At this point, you should be used to his unfazedness. "Yesterday," you say, the 'obviously' clinging to every syllable. Riff was putting up a better fight than usual; or maybe you’re getting sloppy again.
Strange moves his right hand in that circular motion you’ve seen him do before, and the air in front of you cracks. It’s weird to see your own slightly translucent reflection suspended in the middle of your room. The gash on your cheek has barely had the chance to scab. You subconsciously reach for your necklace again.
"Look at the wound, and hold your hands like this."
You try and mimic Strange’s gesture. "I feel ridiculous." Like a mime. Or a really bad stage magician.
"Good," he says. "Now focus your powers, and follow my lead."
You watch Strange move his shaky hands out of the corner of your eye while trying to concentrate on that little spec of power you’ve felt earlier. Slowly, itchingly, the wound starts knitting itself together, as if it’s been healing for days. The skin smoothes over as if nothing had ever happened.
A rush of excitement goes through you at the sight, and there’s a stutter. With a flash of pain, the cut tears up again and you flinch, your hands falling.
"Fuck."
"I told you to focus."
"Well, if only saying it made it happen," you snap, then try again. This time, you let go of your power more carefully, almost coaxing it down. The gash doesn’t heal completely, but at least it looks better than what you started with. Strange watches you closely, brow furrowed deeply in thought.
"Let’s try something different," he says, and with another flick of his wrist, the mirror vanishes again. "Sit down."
You bristle at the command, but obey. A sidelong glance confirms that your sleeping body’s cut on the cheek has somewhat improved as well. There seems to be something connecting the two of you after all.
"When is this here, anyway?" you ask.
Once again, he doesn’t give you an answer. With another quick movement he grabs something through a small portal and throws it at you without any regard to your reflexes. You grab it off the bed incredulously.
"That’s … a meditation CD."
"Congratulations," Strange says. "You can read."
"You’re not serious."
"Deadly." He unfastens his cloak, which flies over to drape itself over the reading chair like a blanket, and then joins you on the floor, crossing his legs as well. It’s bizarrely casual. "If you don’t learn to focus," he continues, "there’s no moving forward from this point."
You huff, holding the CD out for him to take back. He doesn’t. "I’ve tried meditation," you say impatiently. "It doesn’t work for me. My mind—it doesn’t work for me."
"Your mind what?"
"It’s too loud."
You put the CD on the ground with a little too much force, moving to twist your rings around again, but they’re still absent. Your nails dig into your skin, instead.
"Did you know I don’t really forget stuff? Did I tell you that?" You laugh humorlessly, because what else can you do. "Fun side effect of the traveling back and forth through time. I always know where I’ve been and what I’ve done, and what everyone else has done while I was there. All that information is in my head, all the time, and I can’t get rid of it."
"All the more reason to have it quiet down every once in a while," Strange says calmly.
You want to strangle him.
"Believe me, I’d love nothing more, but I can’t. It’s not like I’m a computer and you can do the whole 'Hello, this is IT, have you tried turning it off and on again?' It doesn’t work like that."
"You do know a lot about how things don’t work."
"Welcome to my world," you mutter, flexing your fingers and crossing your arms before you draw blood.
Strange sighs. "Your mind isn’t a hard drive. No matter what your powers entail, your brain is still human. And it needs to rest every once in a while."
For some reason, in the middle of this whole crazy situation, that thought settles. Maybe it’s because it’s possibly the first genuinely kind sentiment he’s shown you so far. Maybe you’re just tired of pushing.
"How?" It’s more a croak than a question.
"Just stay like that and breathe." You look at him incredulously and he raises an eyebrow. "What? No one said you have to think nothing. It’s fine if you just sit there with your thoughts."
There’s a short pause. "That sounds terrifying," you admit quietly.
Strange considers you for a long moment, as if he’s contemplating what to say, until he finally admits, "I know."
***
You blink awake slowly this time, as if gradually awakening from a deep sleep. The TV is on again, quietly chattering in the background, and a weight on your legs tells you that Alpine has found a new spot again.
A glance at your phone shows that surprisingly little time has passed. When you sit up, the white cat on top of you complaining loudly, you can see Sam leaning against the kitchen counter, laptop closed, talking to Sarah on the phone.
The fact that you’re not alone quite yet is weirdly comforting.
In a moment of sleepy contentment, you reach out to scratch Alpine under the chin like you’ve seen Bucky do countless times. Curiously, she lets you without immediately extending her claws. At least for a moment.
"You’re awake."
Immediately, Alpine loses interest in you and jumps onto the backrest of the couch to nestle her head into Bucky’s palm. You roll your eyes.
"Keen observation, sarge."
He slowly peels his gloves off, not quite looking at you. "What did he say?"
Right. There was that.
"Nothing, to be honest," you say, folding up the throw blanket Sam must have put over you while you were sleeping. "Apart from the fact that he really can’t actually do as much as one would think."
"Can’t, or doesn’t want to?"
You shrug. "Same difference."
Despite everything, somehow you feel inclined to believe that there really isn’t a way to get Bucky to the astral plane, though. After all, things haven’t been normal ever since this loop began; and since you’re the only one who can lift it, maybe that also means you’re the only one who can do things like that.
You can only hope that at some point, something—anything—you do is going to stick.
Bucky studies your face, but doesn’t tell you whatever is still clearly gnawing at him. You don’t know why for a moment, you thought he would.
It reminds you of something you haven’t asked in a while.
"Is there something you want to tell me?"
His mouth opens, but he doesn’t speak immediately. "Like what?"
"It’s just …" You struggle with the words, as if your mind is still half-asleep. "In some of the loops, it was kind of …" You trail off when you notice he’s holding something in his other hand. "Did you go get coffee again?"
Bucky clears his throat. "Yeah. I thought since you didn’t get one earlier, ya know …"
You’ve stopped getting caffeinated drinks for yourself in the mornings to make it easier to get to that voidlike state you need to be in to enter the astral plane. It’s been making you rather irritable; though, truth be told, that might also be due to Strange’s charming personality.
"That’s nice," you say, reaching for the paper cup with your name on it, taking a sniff before tasting it carefully. It’s perfect. "I should change my habits," you say lightly, "if Lucy knows my order even if I don’t pick it up myself."
"Who’s Lucy?" Bucky says, sitting down on the couch next to you.
You stop yourself from rolling your eyes. "The pretty one on register? Stars and stripes on her cheeks?" He hums noncommittantly and you decide it’s not worth the effort. "What did you get?" you ask with a nod to the second cup.
"Just … coffee."
You squint to read the sticker, but he puts his fingers over it in a motion so smooth it almost hides its defensiveness. There’s the slightest hint of a grin on his face as you scowl, trying to catch his sleeve to get him to twist the writing back in your direction. Your thumb grazes cool metal and you still. Bucky does, too.
"Did she actually give you her number?"
Your laugh comes out through your nose, somehow, as if it’s not much more than a breath. The expression on Bucky’s face doesn’t quite fit his widening grin, or the slight tinge of pink on his cheeks, but you couldn’t say why.
"So?" he says. Alpine stares at you accusingly, settling in his lap once more.
"Nothing!" It comes out quickly. "I’m not surprised. I mean, she thinks you’re hot."
His eyebrow quirks. "Does she, now?"
You take a gulp of coffee so large it makes your eyes water. "Her shift’s probably over by now. You should call her."
"Why," Bucky says wryly.
"To take her out." Should you be weirded out by the fact that this is happening as soon as Bucky entered the store without you? You tug at the ring on your pinkie.
"Why do you want me to take her out if I’m gonna die later?" Bucky asks.
"Well, it might take your edge off for one."
"And why does my edge concern you?"
"Have you met yourself?" You shrug, your ears drumming. "Besides, it might be fun."
He doesn’t look at you as he takes a sip from his own coffee, as if still determined not to let you see his reaction. "You have a strange definition of fun."
Alpine yawns as if to agree. You stand up abruptly, suddenly nauseated from drinking too fast.
"I’m just gonna …"
Again, you don’t finish your sentence, and Bucky doesn’t stop you from grabbing your takeout containers and taking them with you to your room, where you stare at the toilet for a good minute, waiting for the queasiness to pass. Your meet your own gaze in the mirror.
The cut on your face looks better than it did a few hours ago.
You walk back into your bedroom and take a critical look at your bookcase. The Wind in the Willows is back in its place where it belongs. What isn’t there is the CD Strange finally managed to force upon you.
The rules of this multiverse crap are going to give you another migraine on top of your current one.
You sit down on the floor next to your window to eat, but your cheek keeps itching until you notice yourself tapping your chopsticks against the plastic container so hard soy sauce is splashing everywhere. With a displeased twitch of your mouth, you reach for your phone.
It rings for a very long time and you realize it’s already past midnight in Seoul when finally, there’s a voice on the other end.
"This better be good, agent Y/L/N."
Her voice is quiet, tired, and you press the phone to your ear even harder. "Can I ask you a hypothetical question?"
Doctor Helen Cho sighs deeply on the other end of the line, and you can almost picture her leaning back in her ergonomic office chair. "Alright."
You toy with the edges of the building scab on your cheek. "Is it possible for someone to go through physical changes and … not go through them at the same time?"
There’s a pause on the other end, followed by a sigh. "Are you asking me if Schrödinger’s cat is real or not?"
A living being that simultaneously is and isn’t dead? That’s a paradox you have an answer for.
The problem, as always, is you.
"Sort of. I don’t know." You bite your lip.
"You realize quantum mechanics is not exactly my specialty, right?" Even while she says that, you can hear the clicking of her keyboard. "You are talking about a body, I presume. A human one?"
"Mhm."
"And the changes?"
You think of the cut and the writing and Bucky’s blood on your sheets. And your changed clothes. "They’re only to the body itself. Everything around stays the same. Pretty much like Schrödinger’s cat, I guess. Nothing about the box changes." Ever.
There’s another pause before Helen speaks again.
"Look, as far as I know—and with all these new and upcoming aliens and superheroes and so on that have been appearing over the past couple of years that’s less and less, mind you—but as far as I know, humans can only be in one state at one particular time. There’s ways to accelerate healing processes or even meddle with the body in other ways, but it’s still an either–or scenario."
"So, it’s impossible?" you ask, biting your cheek.
"It’s improbable, based on what I understand." Time has definitely started to bleed into itself, then. Great. "But like I said, that’s not really my area of expertise," she continues. "Speaking of, though, I got an e-mail from your new captain earlier."
"You did?" you ask, surprised. Sam hasn’t said anything to you, not today or any other iteration of it.
"You can tell him I’m hearing the same things he has," Helen says. "My lab wasn’t approached, but I have a colleague at a partner institution who left for Madripoor a couple of weeks ago."
You’ve barely thought about ULTIMATUM and their experiments since you laid everything out for Sam and Bucky earlier this morning. Another wave of guilt flashes through you.
"I’ll tell him," you say tonelessly. "Thanks, Helen."
"In this hypothetical of yours," Helen says before you can hang up. "Who’s the observing party?"
You watch the green symbols circle around your wrist, once, twice, three times. "I’m not sure yet."
You stare at them for a while longer after the call disconnects.
"There’s nothing to observe when the flow of time is reduced to a single day," Strange says when you relay the question to him the next day, his voice dripping with annoyance.
"So there would be, usually?" you ask, eyes narrowing as you try to channel the flow of your powers into the palm of your hand, like he’s told you.
"It’s not a perfect comparison," he answers. "The cat is only dead or not because time passes. Time is only our way of perceiving space dimensionally."
"Time and relative dimension in space," you hum with a light smile. Your palm starts tingling. "But if it’s not that, either, then … I still feel like there has to be something I’m missing here."
Every single review of the mission fills in another piece of the puzzle, the map of the lab you draw on the whiteboard growing more and more detailed each day, but still, it’s never enough. You miss the way Steve would draw out detailed building plans and escape routes before any mission, such ease to the stroke of his pen; your own talent for drawing is borderline abysmal by comparison.
The green shimmer around your hand dissipates again. Strange groans, fingers massaging his temple like he, too, is getting a headache from this stupid realm. His cloak wipes a bead of sweat from his forehead.
"What you’re missing," he says through gritted teeth, "is the point of this exercise."
"Enlighten me," you snap back.
You watch him take a deep breath before he answers. "Do you, or do you not realize that this isn’t all about you?"
You huff. "If you say something like this is the universe imparting a message upon me, I got that point. The message is that I suck at what I’m doing."
"If that’s the message, then how come you’re not the one who’s really getting knocked around every single day?"
The anger and remorse that wash over you make your power flare up like a bolt of electricity, your fingertips and the dark of your eyes flashing an eery shade of green. You can feel the little hairs in the back of your neck stand up. Strange only looks at you, his expression unexpectedly somber.
"At least he doesn’t remember," you say tonelessly.
Strange smiles, but there’s no joy in it. "Indeed," he says.
The rush ebbs off, bit by bit, and you blink to get rid of the last of the strange double vision you sometimes get when time stutters again.
"You keep telling a man he will die today because you think that’s best for him," Strange goes on. "Better than him getting to choose his own path. Have you ever paid attention to how he spends his last precious hours once he knows?"
Of course you have. Sitting around in the Tower, going over mission plans again and again. Getting coffee. Lurking in doorways, leaning against walls, thinking, talking, looking.
It’s all time spent with you, and Sam, and Alpine.
It’s weird that you shouldn’t have realized this fact when in the beginning, you kept wondering about the time he came back to the Tower. Because before you’ve started telling him, Bucky always left.
Maybe that’s what you’re missing.
"Careful," Strange says, noticing your change in expression.
"You know me, doc," you answer, letting the power crackle again ever so slightly. It’s a thrill, getting to feel it again. "Careful’s basically my middle name."
***
"Doesn’t matter," Bucky says when you ask him what he’d be up to if you hadn’t told him about the loop.
"Oh no, leave me out of this. That’s his thing," Sam says when you ask him about the whole thing, and he so clearly knows what it is and yet refuses to tell you.
"None of your business," Bucky says when you press the matter, his jaw clenched tightly, and you hate to do this, but you don’t exactly have limitless options here. Besides, it’s the first new idea you’ve had in a while, which means there’s an almost moral obligation for you to go through with it. And still.
This feels wrong, you think when Sam comes to knock at your door and you throw on your gym clothes, pulling the sweatband over your wrist tightly.
This feels wrong, you think when you climb into the ring as if nothing had ever happened, as if this was just a normal day. Your side is still a little sore, but you’re able to play it off as a scratch with ease. How would he know to call you out on it?
This feels wrong, you think when you close your eyes as you lie on the mat and wait. You promised.
"You look like shit."
Your head turns like muscle memory. "Hey."
"Hi." Bucky’s eyebrow raises at your silence, but you’re not sure if the words aren’t just going to come bursting out of you. You have a tell. "You alright?"
Your grin tastes just a little bitter. "Why wouldn’t I be?"
"Right." He doesn’t quite believe you, of course, but it’s fine. You can do this.
You turn your gaze back to the ceiling and try to recall the very first July 4th, the version of you that you were. She resists you slipping her back on, but you take another deep breath, just like you’ve been practicing. A chuckle slips free.
"Fuck you, Barnes."
Your heart is still beating fast in your chest, but he must chalk it off to the training, because you can hear him huff. "There she is."
You close your eyes with a petulant sigh, just in case he can see your conscience written all over them. Again, you remind yourself that you tried asking him, that you tried everything else, that this is the only option you can think of right now.
"You’re horrible." It’s more like talking to yourself out loud, but of course Bucky doesn’t know that. And the sad truth is, he’s used to your temper.
"Take the towel on the right, I already used the other one."
You give an affirmative hum, waiting until you hear the door close behind him. Then, you rush to the showers, wasting no time to get ready and dressed again.
Bucky walks out the door of the Tower at precisely 09:43, a fact you know thanks to the time stamps on the security footage from the lobby you had FRIDAY pull up early on in the loop. This leaves you with a pretty small window of time to clean up, add another line to the tally on your thigh, and get back to your room to grab your stuff without making what you’re doing to obvious to either him or Sam. You have FRIDAY call up the elevator with barely a minute to spare, going down to the second floor and quickly heading towards the stairs. Behind you, the elevator dings once.
You basically sprint downstairs, readjusting your backpack. You almost barrel into the fire door, peering through the window into the lobby after another glance at your watch. Only a few seconds later, you can see Bucky walk across the entrance hall, the usual resting scowl on his face as he looks around once and then ducks out the side door.
You tug the cap you found at the back of your closet deeper into your face and start after him.
This feels wrong, and it’s a terrible idea, you can’t help but think as you watch him head down Lex, hands stuffed into the pockets of his leather jacket. His strides are long, but unhurried, and even though you know he’s the furthest thing from vulnerable, the fact that you’re seeing him unguarded like this doesn’t sit right with you. Nevertheless, you continue.
You expect him to head for the subway, but instead, he turns left after the Chrysler Building, going east. With a slightly confused frown, you briefly join a group of clearly lost tourists to cross the street and follow him back up Third Avenue. At least there’s just enough people around to make it easy enough for you to hide in a crowd, you suppose.
You’re going to follow him, and find out what he’s up to, and then you’re going to see if and how it all connects to this stupid loop.
Easy as that.
It’s about an hour and a half later when you seriously start cursing Bucky’s name. Inexplicably, he’s still just walking around the streets of Manhattan like a fucking peasant. Your clothes are sticking to your body in ways you don’t care to describe, and you’re sick of having to pretend to be interested in shitty Independance Day memorabilia and battered paperbacks on sale while trying to avoid eye contact with the people trying to sell them to you.
You’re also pretty sure you’re walking around in circles.
Letting your head fall into your neck, you blink up into the bright sunlight from underneath the shade of your cap. As always, there is not a single cloud in sight, a perfect Friday in July. It’s making your eyes burn.
You glance back at Bucky, who has continued walking after taking a look at his phone, and sigh. All of this would be so much easier with your powers.
"What on earth are you up to," you mumble to yourself as you watch him take another left.
You count to ten before rounding the corner as well—and then you yelp when you almost slam into Bucky’s chest.
"What are you doing?" He doesn’t sound annoyed at all; more entertained. You take a step back, assessing, but his face doesn’t betray him whatsoever.
"Going on a walk," you try cautiously.
"Yeah, right." He tilts his head, features despicably neutral. "Why are you following me?"
"I’m not?" He stares at you, and you groan. "Fine. I just wanted to see where you’re going?"
"Why?" There’s an edge to his voice that you can’t quite make sense of, but your thoughts tumble right over it, scrambling for an excuse and coming up empty. The glint in his eye is distracting.
"Because …" Because you don’t know what else to do at this point. "I don’t know, I was just curious."
Bucky raises an eyebrow. "That’s a lot of dedication when you could’ve just asked."
You look at him doubtfully. "So you’d have told me?" you say, already knowing the answer.
"No." He puts his hands back into his pockets and turns around, leaving you standing there staring at his back.
"Well, there you go then," you shout and start to follow along again. You take the stupid hat off with a sigh and stuff it into the backpack, wiping sweat off your forehead. "How long did you know I was there?"
Bucky shrugs. "About when I got outside."
"Seriously." He stares at you over his shoulder. "Seriously?!"
"You came down the stairs," he says, shaking his head. "And in a Yankees cap."
"So?"
"Don’t tell me you suddenly like baseball."
"I might like baseball," you mumble. "It’s a very fine … ball sport."
He snorts. "Sure ya do. I’ll remind you next time the game’s on."
"Circling back," you quickly change the subject, "why the fuck did you make me chase you halfway across Midtown if you knew I was there anyway?"
"It was funny." The shit-eating grin spreading on his face surprises you so much you stumble over your own feet. His arm extends to stop your fall if necessary, as if on instinct. "You know," he continues, "I thought you’d lost me on Times Square. Almost asked one of those guys in costume to help you out."
You slap his hand away. "You’re the worst, Barnes."
"And you’re a shit spy, time powers or not." The smile changes, but stays. Somehow, you’re glad.
Your fingers twitch inside your own pockets, your thumbs tracing along your rings. "So," you say, suppressing the nervous chuckle. "Where are we actually going?"
"Don’t know yet." Bucky turns his head to look out for cars before he continues walking. It takes you a second to match his pace again.
"What do you mean, you don’t know."
"Well, I had to cancel my plans because I got an amateur stalker on my heels."
"Wow." You squint at him and the blinding sunshine behind his head. "And you’re calling me stubborn."
"To your face? I would never."
Oh, you hate this.
"So we’re actually just walking around town for the hell of it." And you’ve done all of this for nothing.
"Yup."
The realization that you wasted yet another day by thinking you could be sneaky around Bucky almost takes you down a spiral, and you don’t even notice he’s still talking to you until he ducks his head to catch your eye. "Huh?"
"I said I’ll buy you a coffee. Think you might need it." He pauses. "That is, if you wanna."
"I could always go for coffee," you say, and it’s true. First, though, you should tell him. Rip the band-aid off and get it over with. "Listen, I—"
But then he looks at you, his eyes impossibly blue in the sunshine, and for the first time in weeks, you don’t have to deal with that damn preciousness in them, because he doesn’t know. He doesn’t know what’s going to happen, and so he just looks at you like he has a thousand times before, the normalcy of it like a breath of fresh air after his eyes have dragged you under again and again.
How come you’re not the one who’s really getting knocked around every single day?
Maybe it’d really be a kindness to spare him the news, just once. It’s still so early.
"What?" Bucky asks when the silence stretches.
You think of the ever unchanging Tower and the neverending pizza delivery and the fact that you hate this. You hate lying to him. You do it anyway.
Just once.
"I thought of something, but it doesn’t matter now," you say. "We have time."
***
"Are you gonna tell me what’s up with you?"
You pretend not to hear him, shuffling the straws around in their container until they look a bit more orderly. Even though you’re not working, even though this isn’t even your store, it’s hard to shake the need to feel useful. Particularly if you’re trying to ignore Bucky’s gaze burning into your neck.
You’re saved by your name being called out because your coffee is ready. For some reason, you half-expect him to swoop in front of you and take the drinks himself, but of course he doesn’t. Why would he?
With a shake of your head, you rid yourself of the ridiculous thought and hand Bucky his coffee without looking at him.
"You know," you say, stepping out of the crowded Starbucks into the sunshine. "I have a blanket somewhere in here." You point at your backpack. "We could try to fight for a spot in the park."
There’s a pause, and then Bucky sighs. "What else do you have in there, anyway?"
"Spy stuff."
You don’t expect him to find that funny, but he snorts slightly. Then, like a habit he can’t break, his gaze falls on your hands again.
"I’m just tired," you say wearily before he presses the matter.
"You should try the floor," Bucky says. "If you can’t sleep."
It helps, sometimes. "I’ll keep that in mind."
You take a sip of your coffee and scrunch your nose when you realize it isn’t what you ordered for yourself; it’s what you ordered for him. In your haste to change the topic earlier, you must have switched the cups.
"Sorry," you say, "this is actually—"
But you stop talking, because he’s already taking a tentative nip of yor drink, and then he licks his lips. And they curl slightly upwards.
He blinks a few times, as if he’s as surprised as you are, and tries again, less hesitantly this time. Then he looks at the writing on the cup. "Wait," he says, frowning, "I think you’ve got mine."
Your mouth closes, then opens again. "How do you know?" you finally say. "They both have my name on them."
"Yeah, but you always get the same thing," Bucky says, as if him knowing your order couldn’t possibly be news to you.
"It’s fine," you say when he tries to hand you your cup back. "Maybe I should try something different sometimes."
Bryant Park is already bustling with people, and it’s just about noon. The little green tables are all occupied by chess players and chatting families, the carousel horses manned with happily shrieking children.
Still, you find a place to spread out your blanket near the edge of the lawn, almost within talking distance of the Public Library’s security guard, who is currently on his first smoke break. You demonstratively sit down with your back to him. If ever a man took his job too seriously.
"Aren’t you hot in that?" you ask doubtfully when Bucky uncomfortably sits down opposite you, the collar of his leather jacket pushing up.
"'Course I am," he answers, not elaborating.
You let your eye roam through the park. "Terrible news," you say dryly. "Not a single person is looking at you, Sergeant Cool."
Bucky shakes his head, not looking at you.
"No one cares," you say, more sincerely this time. "Even if they did, they’re not gonna say anything. And they’ll have forgotten about you tomorrow."
He huffs again. "And you’re wonderin’ why I call you stubborn."
"I thought you didn’t do that to my face?"
He pulls his gloves off, throwing them on the blanket between you with his eyebrow raised. "Happy?"
In the bright sun, his left hand is gleaming, the inlets reflecting the light in a way that makes it dance across the cotton like swirls of pure gold. You smile and lean back, closing your eyes.
You don’t come to this park often, even though it’s not far from the Tower at all and it’s easier than returning to Central Park with all the memories it holds and that have turned more bitter than sweet after everything. It’s the same as with the library, you suppose. Sometimes you don’t even know you’re missing something until you find yourself in the middle of it.
It might have been a Saturday, you think, the last time you were here. What a concept; Saturday. You sit with the thought for a while, and then you let it drift away, just like you’ve been practicing.
It’s such an unexpected feeling, to get to experience this moment of quiet reprieve when lately, most of your time in this loop has been spent studying, or training, or fighting. You already know you’re getting another talking-to if you don’t return to the astral plane at all today; but it’s just the one day. Surely, you can be allowed one day.
Your brain craves it more than anything.
When you open your eyes again, Bucky is contemplating your backpack with a frown so oddly different than the one you’ve gotten used to in previous loops. He seems so … It takes you a while to come up with the right word, because somehow, it makes you think of Alpine, and that doesn’t make any sense at all. Comfortable. He seems comfortable.
His shoulders are relaxed, his jaw unclenched, and even though he’s still wearing the jacket, his eyes aren’t flitting around to assess everyone within sight. His head tilts slightly.
"Are you trying to see through it?" you say, and the dryness tastes wrong on your tongue.
Bucky nudges the backpack with his foot. "Just wonderin’ what you thought you were gonna be up to."
"I like to come prepared."
"Since when?"
Well, ever since resetting has kind of stopped being an option whatsoever. "This isn’t gonna turn into one of your 'constant vigilance' talks, is it, Moody?" you say lightly.
He looks at you again, and you’re not really sure if that’s better or worse. "You’re deflecting, doll."
"Well, what do I know!" you say. It’s worse, definitely worse, but you don’t know why. "You might have been off on a covert mission or visiting a secret girlfriend or buying a beehive to put on the roof or—"
He unzips the backpack. "So you brought a blanket, a baseball cap, binoculars and a banana?"
You try to bite your tongue, but it’s impossible. "I was kind of set on the bee scenario."
Bucky laughs.
Genuinely laughs. His nose scrunches up, his eyes creasing and his head thrown back a little, shaking with a quiet and almost childish glee as you blink at the unusual sight. It’s over almost as suddenly as it began, but … still. A warmth spreads from your chest to your cheeks as you watch him, your own smile almost hesitant by comparison.
Joy looks good on him.
It leaves a twinkle in his eye even as the laughter subsides, like specs of sunlight.
"What?" he says, his mouth still twitching.
"You seem happy." And it’s astonishing.
Bucky shakes his head slightly, and if you didn’t know any better, you’d think he’s blushing. "No need to sound so shocked about it."
"You sure?" you ask, your voice cracking only a little. "I feel like I need to call an ambulance."
"Shut up."
"Or Area 51. I think you might’ve been swapped with an alien doppelganger." You sit up properly. "Tell me something only the real Bucky would know. Oh, wait. He wouldn’t have told me, either."
"You are the most dramatic person I know, you know that?"
"You’re one to talk, Sergeant I Need Nobody’s Help, I Will Jump Out Of  A Plane Without A Parachute."
"So many rank drops today."
"Now who’s deflecting?"
"I take calculated risks."
Except he doesn’t even know his calculator is broken.
Bucky stares at you. "What’s that even supposed to mean?"
You didn’t mean to say it out loud. Not today. Your fingers twitch automatically to take it back, but of course, nothing happens. Nothing apart from his attention being brought back to your black rings.
"What did you do?"
The concern in his voice is quiet, but it’s there nevertheless, and it makes your heart ache, long desperately for it to go away, to be replaced by the joy that was there mere seconds ago. You want to make this day stop, make the world stop so you can continue living in that ease of just sitting here and laughing together without thinking about anything else.
And then you realize what’s really happening, and the world chokes, like something falling into place.
For a moment, you can’t breathe as you look at him, whole and confused and missing parts he can’t even remember leaving with you, and you feel as though your heart might stop because the only thought running through your head is Please, not now. Not now. Not now. Every single beat is an echoing no inside your mind.
You are so fucked up, you think, but you can’t find it in you to stop looking at his face, nearly flinching as you shove the feeling all the way down, down, down, until you can feel it like a brick in your stomach. It’s nauseating, like the vertigo you get at the very top of a roller coaster just before the car drops into freefall.
"Y/N?"
"I don’t know," you say tonelessly. He must have noticed your face change, he must have. So why doesn’t the frown deepen?
"Liar." Your heart is still pounding so loud he must hear it, even over the racket of children screaming in delight and cars blowing their horns in the distance.
Concern, you think again. Exact same thing that you see mirrored on Bucky’s face right now. You're concerned for your friend.
Roommate, really.
Colleague.
Guy you sometimes work with, professionally.
Exactly. That’s it. That has to be it.
You’re in deep enough shit already.
He’s still waiting for you to say something and you can hear the blood rushing in your ears, the buzzing in your head getting louder, and the only thing you can think to say is, once again, "I’m sorry."
Before Bucky can answer, his phone rings, and there’s the flicker of annoyance you’ve been waiting for.
"Hold that thought," he says. "Sam?"
Your heart sinks as Bucky presses his phone to his ear, reality catching up with you again. You try to rearrange your features into a neutrally curious expression when he glances back at you, but you’re probably failing horribly.
"No, I’m good, I didn’t end up going.Yeah. Alright."
You clear your throat as he hangs up. "So. Sam’s about to give his big speech then?"
Bucky looks bemused. "I’d hope not. That was hours ago."
"What?"
Confused, you look at your watch. Then you look at Bucky’s watch. Then you look at your phone.
Even though you can’t have been sitting here for more than thirty minutes, every clock you look at tells you it’s past 4 p.m. Confused, you twist your rings around your fingers, one by one, but they’re as pitch black as ever, and yet somehow …
"Should we go?" you ask, your voice just a little pitchy.
Bucky gazes at you for a very long moment, and then gets up to his feet and holds out his hand to pull you up. He still hasn’t put his gloves back on.
You take it.
"You’re really off today," he remarks and you hum noncommittantly as you fold the blanket back up and unceremoniously stuff it into the backpack. He shoulders it himself before you can grab it. "You’re just gonna complain again," he says, even though the Tower isn’t that far.
You don’t say anything, though, just trudging behind him without a glance back.
Probably because of the time of day, 42nd street is packed. You watch Bucky pass through the crowd with his head downcast and his hands back in his pockets. If it’s been a struggle not to get separated from him earlier this morning, it’s near impossible now.
He looks over his shoulder when, for the third time, several people have pushed between the two of you, and you shrug helplessly as you try to catch up to him. Again, you can’t help but think this would be so much easier with your powers working the way they’re supposed to; just stopping everyone else for a second while you move past them.
"Sorry," you mumble when you reach him waiting for you at a crossing. All of a sudden, you feel how tired you’ve been for a while.
"Wanna just go home?" Bucky asks.
"That’d be nice," you say, cringing at the thought of having to change immediately once you get back. Sam is probably already impatient.
Bucky’s mouth twitches. "Don’t make this a thing."
And then he takes your hand again and links his fingers with yours as if he’s done it a thousand times before. The light changes to green, but you don’t move, and Bucky softly tugs to get your attention. His hand is solid and warm in yours, and it does nothing to ease the feelings of unease and contentment that mingle in your stomach with his touch.
Neither does the fact that as soon as the crowd disperses and you slowly, reluctantly let go of his hand, he steps out into the street with his head half-turned to you and—well.
You wake up with a start to the sun in your face and FRIDAY blasting The All-American Rejects at full volume, and it’s like the air is getting knocked out of your lungs.
After that, the days start to blur.
***
"Why would it have anything to do with the mission?" Strange asks, and you can’t decide whether he sounds condescending or genuinely confused.
"Because it’s never happened before then, maybe?" you say, throwing up your arms. "I don’t know!"
"The loop is tied to you, not the other way around. If Sergeant Barnes has only ever died during the mission before today, the only other variable in that equation is you."
His cloak curls at the seams in a way that’s almost apologetic. What a stupid thing to say about a piece of magical fabric, you think.
"Great," you huff, sitting down on the ground and crossing your arms in order to not shake violently. "So first time’s skipping and now if I spend time with him, he’s just gonna die earlier?"
There’s a pause as Strange frowns. "Show me your wrist."
You press your lips together tightly and hold out the arm with the swirling green symbols. Strange examines it with a particularly grim expression.
"Just say it," you mutter when it becomes unbearable.
"Time is a precious thread in the fabric of the universe," he says, dropping your hand. His silver eyes are very serious. "You don’t get an endless supply of it."
"I literally do," you reply, flourishing your wrist demonstratively. "That’s the whole problem."
"No." Strange shakes his head. "Your reality is going to collapse if time can’t move on from where it’s stuck. Not today, not tomorrow, but it will happen."
You stare at him with wide eyes. "What does that mean?"
"It means, no more distractions. Things are detereorating more quickly than I’d hoped." He sighs, and there’s something about his demeanor that lets real fear course through your bones for the first time in a while.
"Okay," you say, swallowing it down. "Let’s do some overtime, then."
"I’m afraid that’s not how it works. Look at her."
You glance at your sleeping body, stirring in her sleep.
"You asked when this is," Strange continues. "That’s the thing with this version of the astral plane. It’s unstable. It only exists between dreaming and waking, and so our time here is very limited. You are then, and now. Past and present and future all folded into each other and wrapped into one. The nature of time doesn’t like this."
"So, what?" You laugh humorlessly. "I go through an endless day, and then reality crumbles anyway?"
"Do you understand now why it’s so important that you get a grip on your powers?"
Because you’re the one who created the loop, and therefore the only person who can untangle it again.
"So no pressure then," you say tonelessly.
"All of the pressure, I’m afraid," Strange says grimly. "There’s really no time to waste anymore."
***
"When we live such fragile lives, it’s the best way we survive. I go around a time or two, just to waste my time with you."
Your head has started pounding to the beat of the song and Sam’s fist at your door, but you keep staring at the ceiling, unmoving. It all just starts over.
Even this godawful song.
"Tell me all that you’ve thrown away. Find out games you don’t wanna play."
You must admit, the universe has a certain sense of cruel humor. Not that that’s any news. It doesn’t fucking matter what you do any of these days, because the outcome stays the exact same, and there’s a moment each and every time where Bucky knows that, too. Only by then, it’s too late.
"Geez, I hate you."
You’re so tired.
"I know, Buck."
Fade to black. Back in with a blast and the sun in your face, FRIDAY blasting The—
"I’m coming in," Sam finally shouts from the other side of the door. "You better not be naked!"
You hear him enter, but you still don’t move. You’re busy replaying that look on Bucky’s face in your mind of the exact moment it goes wrong. It looks so pale, his mouth twitching downwards, a bit like with his coffee, but much more devastating.
Black out. Rewind. His eyes are on you, not even on the white jacket shooting him.
Black out. Rewind. The fingers on his metal hand grasp so tightly around your wrist you feel something move underneath your skin.
"What is going on with—Y/N!" You feel Sam rushing to your bedside in three long strides.
Right. You’re still covered in blood.
You can’t look away from his eyes until the last second. Black out. Rewind.
"FRIDAY, turn this shit off. Call an ambulance."
"Calling 911."
The sudden silence slams you back into the present with a start. "Cancel call," you say loudly, your voice only slightly shaking. "I’m fine, Sam."
"You don’t look fine!" He helps you sit up, looking you up and down, a sense of urgency still vibrating in his every movement, but of course, you’re not bleeding. "You look like you just shot a man and then rolled over."
"You’re not wrong," is all you get out before you start crying.
Black out. Rewind. God, you’re pathetic.
You shrink back from his arms, cradling your wrist to your chest. It’s starting to swell.
And yet, the green symbols swirl.
You’re not sure why you’re reacting like this now, after … you’re not sure. It’s not like this is your first time. Does that make you an even worse person? Probably.
Sam is talking to you, you recognize his voice, but you can’t focus on the words. You’re desperate to find something to focus your attention on, like you’ve been trying, training, grasping to do, but you’ve got nothing. Just numbness, a gaping nothingness, and the scars to prove you’re not just stuck in a nightmare but this is in fact your reality, and you are the only thing that remains while everything else resets in an endless cycle of hell, over and over and over again.
Nothing stays.
And you can’t help but feel like you’re running out of time, anyway.
This is ridiculous, you know that. You know you’re worrying Sam out of his mind, that you just need to focus, damnit, take a breath, stop crying, anything. Your incompetence to do any of these simple tasks is like another slap to the face.
Time passes, and doesn’t pass; it doesn’t matter at all whether you’re there for a minute or six hours, it’s all the same to you.
Through the fog of it all, Bucky’s voice is like your lighthouse.
And you despise yourself for it, even as you reach out for him.
"Hey," he says quietly, his hands rubbing circles into your back until he slowly, carefully pulls you out of your head back to earth. "It’s alright. Everything’s okay."
He says it over and over and over again until you nod slowly. It’s a pretty lie, after all.
"What happened to your wrist?"
You know what you have to do, but that concerned undertone makes it so hard. You’re still not used to it, but you want to be. Fuck, you want … No.
It doesn’t matter.
"I need to tell you something," you whisper, barely loud enough for him to hear. "One more time. And then … Then that’s it."
You have to do this. Have to close yourself off emotionally. Distance yourself from Bucky in order to stay rational about this situation and find your way out. Treat this like you’re not involved at all; like this is just another puzzle for you to solve, and nothing else.
It’s the only way.
You’re going to fix this mess you’ve created, if it’s the last thing you do.
*****
"If we die here tonight, I’m blaming you," you told Steve through chattering teeth, and he laughed at you. If you hadn’t still felt bad about his bruises—no matter that they’d already healed completely again—you might have kicked him in the shin.
You’d reached the point of wanting to kick Captain America on a concerningly regular basis.
This time, though, you felt completely within your rights, because you’d been training hard all week, and thanks to New York being just about the most disgustingly freezing place on the planet if they asked you, you really didn’t see the point of driving into the city to a random ice rink. Particularly not on an evening in early January when it was already dark outside.
"You’ll be warmed up in no time," Steve said and waved at Nat, who was already waiting for the two of you, the hood of her sweatshirt pulled up so the red roots of her hair stayed hidden.
"Couldn’t we have done this at the lake?" you asked, looking around wearily. The crowd was substantial.
"Sure," Nat said and put an arm around you. "Do you have about fifty friends we can invite so we can properly train your powers around other people?"
You grimaced. "There are children everywhere."
"Oh, yeah. Some of them went home early, but most opted to stay when I told them Steve would drop by."
You groaned. Of course they were Natasha’s Blip orphans; they had the same mischievous shimmer in their tired eyes. "Thanks for that, Nat."
"You’re so welcome," she answered, patting your shoulder. You narrowed your eyes when her coat shifted to the side.
"Is that my hoodie?" you said.
She looked down as if she hadn’t noticed what she was wearing at all. "Yeah, I think so."
"I was looking for that everywhere earlier!"
Natasha merely shrugged. "It’s your own fault for leaving your stuff in the dryer for anyone to take."
"Don’t pay attention to it, she does it to all of us," Steve said, putting an arm around her.
"That is not true."
"It is. You’re like a clothes hoarding dragon."
"Did you just call me a dragon?"
You didn’t listen to the rest of their bickering, because your eyes had started to water, and not because of the cold. It’d been a long time since you’ve felt this warmth inside, this feeling of belonging, of, well … family. It made your powers pulsate through your veins soothingly.
Still, the worry came back when they gave you a helmet and knee pads to wear.
"I’m a travesty on skates, but it’s not this bad," you told Natasha again when you shakily followed her to the rink entrance.
"We’re here to train, not to have fun," she said, taking your hands. Of course, she moved like a dancer even on the ice. "Well, both," she amended when you looked unconvinced. "Oh, don’t look at me like that, it was Steve’s idea."
"Then why is he sitting over there doing nothing?"
"He’s got the day off." She pulled you to the side of the rink. "Here’s what we’re gonna do," she said, pointing to the far end. "I’m going to close my eyes and you’re going to guide me straight through the middle to the other side."
You stared at her. "You’re insane."
Natasha ignored you. "One straight line, you tell me when to dodge someone. We’ll go slow."
"I don’t know how many times I can jump."
"It’s not exactly a life or death situation, Y/N. I can survive a few bruises and so can the kids."
"I’d rather not injure a child if you don’t mind," you say, trying not to sound hysterical.
"And I’m confident that you won’t. Do you trust me on this?"
You met Nat’s calm gaze and took a breath, even though the knot in your stomach tightened. "Fine."
"Such a vote of confidence," she snorted. "Just watch what they’re doing, and keep it in mind. Think of it like a dance recital. It’s all just a sequence of steps in a specific order."
You bit the inside of your cheek and nodded. Natasha closed her eyes. "Ready?" you asked.
She smiled. "I love this song."
You could barely hear the music over the thrum of adrenaline, but you supposed that was her way of saying yes. This’ll be the day that I die.
You pushed forward.

You sigh lightly as your phone lights up your pitch black room, mocking your current state of insomnia. You had set it down over an hour ago to try and force yourself to sleep, but even with a lack of the blue light, you were still wide awake. Sitting up, you reach for your phone and notice an unknown number calling you. Already being unable to sleep, you decide to entertain whoever could possibly be calling you at this hour. Ultimately, deciding to answer.
“Hello?” You speak slowly and softly, still somewhat tired despite being unable to sleep.
“Thank god you answered.” Said the voice, relieved, on the other end of the line.
“Matty?” You could recognize that voice anywhere, even though you were seventy percent sure you were hallucinating right now.
“Im sorry to bother you at this hour, love. I need your help.” Matty breathes out, his voice sounding rushed. You groan to yourself, barely audible. You and Matty had been friends for years, meeting through a mutual friend, but you haven’t heard from him in almost two years until now. He practically ghosted your friendship when he found himself in a new, yet toxic relationship. But, based on the headlines you had read the other day scrolling twitter, they had finally called it quits.
Sitting up, you put your phone on speaker, and sit it in your lap. “Matty, what the fuck do you need?” You’re pissed, but your voice not showing any more than a slight annoyance.
“I need you to come pick me up, take me back to mine. My buddies dragged me out with them to get over, well, you know. Long story short, they are all shit-faced, none of them fucking coherent, and my god damn car service app isn’t working.” He sounds genuinely stressed. “My phones about to die as well, which is bloody fucking fantastic.” Matty grumbles into the phone.
You sit there, momentarily debating your options. You could leave him there, make him figure his shit out on his own. But you also have a soft spot for him after everything, knowing, if anything, he’s not the same person who deserted your friendship a few years ago. A deliberate exhale leaves your mouth, choosing the latter.
“Yeah, okay. Just text me your location before your phone dies. I’ll be there soon.” You hear him start to thank you, but you hang up quickly, not letting him get another word out. Deciding to keep your satin pajama shorts and bra on, you throw a hoodie over and slide on your sneakers. Groaning while grabbing your car keys off the kitchen island, you set off to your car, driving to Matty’s current location.
As you pull up to the bar, you recognize Matty leaning up against the wall, taking a long drag of his cigarette. Nothing has changed. You also notice none of his friends are anywhere to be seen. Odd. Driving up next to where Matty is standing, you roll down your window and his eyes catch yours.
“Long time no see, love.” Matty’s lips twist up into a smirk. Nothing. Has. Fucking. Changed. You watch him stub out his cigarette on the brick wall and toss it into the trash can by him. He climbs into your car shortly after. “Missed your face, thanks for coming to get me.”
Letting out an immediate scoff at his nonchalant behavior, you decide to ignore his comment. “So, Im taking you back to yours, right?”
You feel Matty’s eyes rake over your body, burning into your skin. You can smell some alcohol on him, though you know he’s not a big drinker, only having a glass or two of wine usually, and choosing to stick to his cigarettes or weed. He’s not drunk, so why is he looking at you like that.
“Of course, love.” He speaks lowly, eyes still stuck on you. You decide to disregard his use of the pet name and put your car into drive, pulling off onto the main road.
The drive to Matty’s house was maybe fifteen minutes at most, and yet it felt like an eternity with his eyes fixed on you. It’s almost like he couldn’t believe you actually came to pick him up, not being able to come to terms that you were finally seeing each other after two years.
Pulling up to Matty’s house brought back so many memories, and important moments you two had shared over the years of your friendship. His driveway led you to his front door, as you put your car in park, you finally glance over at Matty, who’s staring attentively. Under the glow of the exterior lights on his house, you notice he’s wearing tight black jeans, a dark belt, blank tank top, and a satin dress shirt. His long curly hair is slicked back slightly, with his sunglasses sitting on top of his head.
“Like what you see?” Matty implies cockily, eyes never leaving yours.
“It’s a fucking Monday.” You glare at him. “Why were you out on a fucking Monday, don’t you think you’re too old for this bullshit?” Continuing to ignore his playful comments, you squint your eyes at him, crossing your arms over your chest. You slightly feel bad for picking arguments with him, but his remarks are starting to make you feel some type of way.
Matty laughs out loud at your comment, the sudden deep laugh makes you jump a bit. “Lighten up a bit, love.” He nudges his elbow into your arm. You continue to frown at him, clearly not finding anything amusing. Matty falls silent, realizing how upset you actually are. “Look, why don’t you come inside? I can make you some tea, and we could watch a movie like old times?” He wiggles his eyebrows at you, waiting on an answer.
Your eyes bore into his. “Fine.” Turning off your car, you and Matty step out, walking up to his front door. He unlocks his door and steps to the side, motioning for you to come in. You take off your sneakers and set them on the mat, walking over to his living room and sitting down on his massive couch. He joins you promptly, sitting right next to you, a little too close for the amount of spots he could’ve picked from.
“Still a little bratty? Huh?” He asks casually, not once looking up at you as he turns on his TV.
“Excuse me?” Your eyes widen at his sudden judgement.
“Bratty. You’ve always been a little brat, love. It’s cute, though. Never minded it. Some things just never change.” He chuckles to himself, shaking his head.
Can’t take it back once it’s been set in motion
Your mouth is agape, taken aback by his words, struggling to make a counter remark.
“I see no one’s ever tried putting you in your place yet.” Matty hums absentmindedly, setting the remote down and glancing over at your shocked face.
You know I love to rub it in like lotion.
Pink flushes on your cheeks and neck as you stare at him with wide eyes, unsure of what to say next. "I- what?" You stumble over your words, mouth suddenly dry.
Matty moves closer, invading any personal space you were clinging onto. His hand falls on your thigh, squeezing as he keeps his eyes locked on yours. "Oh, you heard me loud and clear, love. Don't play stupid now." He whispers, eyes flickering to your lips momentarily.
You lose the ability to speak, eyes unable to leave his. "Matty-" He cuts you off.
"C'mon darling, I saw how you were looking at me in the car, and how eager you were to come pick me up tonight, even after all this time"
I can see it clear as day.
The blush on your cheeks deepens as you feel his hot breath fan across your skin, creating goosebumps up your arms. You grab onto his forearm, putting your other hand on his chest, trying to keep a small distance between you two. Matty was very attractive, you couldn't deny it. But your inexperience was making you hesitate, unsure of how to handle his advances.
Before you could react, Matty reached his hand out and placed it on your cheek, the other still resting on your thigh, squeezing tighter than before. His face was only centimeters away from yours as he breathes out, "Tell me to stop and I will. But you don't want me too, do you, love?"
You don't really need a break.
You close your eyes tightly, feeling flustered at his words. A warmth growing in your stomach, an unfamiliar feeling. You think about pushing him off, but your body ached for him, not wanting to stop this. Without any more hesitation, you look back up at him, shaking your head slowly, an invitation for him to continue.
Wanna see what you can take.
At your permission, Matty crashes his lips against yours, moving the hand that was on your cheek down to your neck. You let out a small gasp at the contact. He takes this as a chance to deepen the kiss, taking up every part of your mouth with his. The grip on your thigh moves up, closer to your heat. His fingers play with the hem of your pajama shorts, pushing them up slightly, almost exposing your underwear. You let out a pathetic whine as he breaks the heated kiss.
"God, Ive wanted to do this for years, you have no idea." Matty grumbles out as he pulls off your hoodie swiftly, pushing you down to lay back against the arm rest. He hovers over you, pulling down your satin shorts slowly, eyes never breaking contact from yours. "You're so fucking pretty baby, my perfect girl." You blush at his words, letting out a soft groan. Feeling like a prey under the gaze of a predator, you fix your eyes on the ceiling, unable to look at him.
You should really run away.
Matty notices this, and reaches his hand out to grab at your chin, directing your attention back to him. "Don't you dare look away, keep your eyes on me, yeah?"
Your eyes meet his again, his pupils blown with lust. He looks at you with a stern look, asserting his dominance as you nod silently. Matty smirks at your obedience, and starts rubbing small circles on your heat. You moan louder this time at the friction, pushing your hips up against his hand.
Other people wouldn't stay. Other people don't obey.
"That's right, love. Does that feel good? Do you want more?" Matty's eyes stay trained on yours. You feel small under his gaze, yet enjoying how he towers over you, his chain dangling in front of your face. You clench your legs together as his fingers rub at your clit, growing wetter by the second.
Your stomach starts to tighten, already close to an orgasm. "Im close, please, I can't." You cry out, throwing your head back on the arm rest.
His fingers suddenly disappear from your clit, and you cry out from the sudden loss.
"Do I need to repeat myself? I told you to keep your eyes on me, yeah? Be a good girl for me, darling." Matty reiterates, moving his other hand up to your neck again, applying pressure but not fully cutting off your airway.
You nod feverishly, not wanting him to stop again. Your eyes pleading for forgiveness. Matty chuckles and reaches his hand back down, his fingers barely grazing your clit again as he pulls your underwear down your thighs, exposing your wet cunt to him. The cold air against your core makes you shudder, the contrast in temperature sending a wave of pleasure up your spine.
Matty watches your reaction intently, reveling in how it doesn't take much to get you worked up. He releases your neck from his grip and places his lips against your neck, searching for your pulse point. You expose your neck more, giving him silent permission to continue.
I wanna do bad things to you.
"God, you really are a desperate thing, aren't you love? Tell me where you want me." He murmurs into your neck, planting kisses and bites around the sensitive area as he rubs tight circles on your clit. You flush at his words, letting out a whimper.
"Anywhere, please." You beg him, jerking your hips up to create more friction again. He lets out a soft chuckle into your neck at this.
"Your wish is my command, darling." Matty smirks and pulls away from your neck. He begins to move down your body, trailing kisses until he reaches your cunt. He breathes out onto your heat, then swiftly attaches his lips to your clit, sucking hard. You cry out from the new feeling, body squirming with pleasure.
Matty hums against your pussy at the cry you let out, creating a vibrating sensation. Your hands grip at his head, your fingers curling into his hair and pulling. You keep your eyes on him as he flicks his tongue against your clit repeatedly, mouth hanging open in a silent moan.
"So fucking perfect for me." He mumbles, wrapping his hands around your legs, keeping them wide open for him. His tongue teases your tight hole, licking thick stripes wherever he could reach before his attention is drawn back to your clit, sucking persistently.
Your back arches off the couch, fingers gripping at his hair and pulling hard. "Matty, fuck, Im gonna come, fuck-" You stumble over your words, feeling your stomach tighten at his continued abuse against your cunt.
Matty pulls away momentarily, "Go ahead, darling. Be a good girl for me and come on my tongue, yeah?" He picks up speed, mercilessly sucking and circling his tongue on your pussy.
I wanna make you yell.
Your legs clench together, affectively trapping him against your core as your body tenses up. You throw your head back, letting out an obscenely loud moan as you feel your orgasm wash over your body. Your hips buck up into his mouth, feeling even more wetness pool where his mouth is. Matty moans against your cunt, sending aftershocks from your orgasm straight to your heat again.
"You taste fucking unbelievable, love." He grunts out, making sure to swallow every last bit of your orgasm. Your body twitches from overstimulation as he finishes cleaning you up with his tongue.
Matty pulls away, his lips soaked with your fluids. You look at him with heavy eyes, feeling almost drunk from your orgasm. He looks almost as wrecked as you. You are about to sit up and reach for him when you glance down and realize he's still hard, but he stops you.
"I know you're tired. You don't have to finish me off. Another time, okay?" Matty speaks lowly, keeping eye contact with you as he stands up and grabs a blanket from the basket near the coffee table. He sits on the edge of the couch next to you, wrapping you up in the fluffy blanket. You blink up at him, exhaustion washing over your body.
Matty stares down at you, giving you a look filled with an emotion you couldn't quite pinpoint. You sigh out, feeling his body press up next to yours. He pulls you into his arms tightly, brushing his fingers through your hair.
"Thank you for that." You admit your appreciation shyly, a content smile on your lips.
Matty grins down at you, "Of course, love. Anything for you." He runs his fingers through your hair, brushing the strands out of your face. Your eyes flutter shut, unable to fight the sleep coming over you this time.

— blurb of soft!matt and tired!reader —
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You and your boyfriend, Matt, were sitting on the couch with his brothers. Matt for some reason at this time at night was very talkative when you were barely even able to keep your eyes open. Your head kept falling down and your lids would start to close but your head would suddenly fly back up again; snapping back into reality it felt like.
You had did it for a third time and swung your head back up again before Matt looked over and chuckled.
“Look at mrs. can’t-keep-her-eyes-open.”
He glanced back over at his brothers giggling before looking back at you again. He patted your thigh and he could very obviously tell you were basically half asleep just zoning in and out of sleep. Nick and Chris continued their useless argument about if “soup in a bread bowl” is soup or a sandwich.
“You tired? Should I even be asking?”
Matt chuckled again. He looked at you almost in awe, just sitting there and admiring his sleepy girlfriend. It was a few seconds before ur tired brain really processed what he said, delaying your answer.
“huh? Oh- kinda. Are you?”
The only reason you were really staying up is because you didn’t really wanna nag your boyfriend about going to sleep. Expecially during his heated yet entertaining conversation with his two brothers. He tilted his head side to side and glanced away
“kinda I guess, if you wanna sleep we can go. Plus I should start working on my fucked sleeping schedule.”
Matt had that understanding look and slight smile on his face that suddenly reflected back onto yours, that pulled you both in a full blown affectionate smile. He didn’t even let you answer before getting up from the couch. He stretched his arms above his head and groaned, making his way towards Nick and Chris.
“Me and mrs. Can’t-keep-her-eyes-open are prolly gonna go hit the hay.”
His two brothers looked over stopping their conversation. As you got up from the couch slowly they exchanged “I love you”s and hand shakes. After he was done saying goodnight to Nick and Chris he walked over to you and wrapped and arm around your shoulder.
“Let’s go.”
He smiled. His arm fell from your shoulders to your back; he rubbed it the whole walk from the living room to his bedroom. When you guys made it to his room his hand slipped even farther down, now clutching your waist. He didn’t bother turning on the light since it wasn’t that dark in there anyways, and he didn’t wanna “break your tired” atleast that’s what he called it. He turned his head to look at you, looking at ur sleepy face for a second before leaning in and leaving a peck on ur rosy cheek.
“go lay down babe, I’m gonna go grab my phone.”
Matt said before patting your behind. He exchanged that dorky smile again before walking out. You chuckled to yourself hearing his loud feet against the wooden boards, that kid couldn’t walk quiet to save his life. You waited a minute for him to get back and when he walked in, you seen he also had your phone along with his.
“I forgot my phone too? Shit.”
“Yeah, I honestly didn’t think you’d remember it anyways. sleepy head.”
Matt started to mimic ur big yawning before letting out a cackle and throwing your phone on the bed with you; him of course being careful and making sure it wouldn’t hit you.
“Seriously, Matt?”
You let out. You grabbed ur phone that’s fall was protected by the thick black duvet. Matt chuckled and walked over to his side of the bed, rolling his eyes playfully seeing ur irritated expression.
“Just joking around with you sweetheart.”
he left another peck on your cheek and on the side of your lip. You couldn’t hold back a smile after that affectionate turn, so instead of giving in you turned your head to avoid him seeing you smile. He was still leaned in close to your face, and still was able to see your flustered reaction to his love.
“I can see you fucking smiling dork.”
Matt cackled again. He grabbed your chin and made you face him; he used his thumb to gently caress your chin. It was obvious he was staring at your lips and he would occasionally glance up at your eyes. This moment of silence felt like forever, but not like you ever wanted it to end. Matt had broken the silence
“theres my beautiful girl.”
He said leaning in and properly giving ur soft, pink, lips the kiss they needed.

pt 10
A couple of days had passed and Nick just posted the vlog from our drive around LA. Charlie and I were lounging on the couch, scrolling through our phones. My notifications had been blowing up all day. Every few seconds, a new comment popped up, most of them about the kiss Matt and I had shared in the vlog. The hate comments didn’t faze me—they were ridiculous and honestly kind of entertaining. People had too much time on their hands.
“Oh my God,” Charlie said, leaning over to peek at my phone. “They’re actually mad about a kiss? Like, of all things to care about.”
I shrugged, smirking. “Apparently, I’m public enemy number one. Should I frame this?”
She laughed, but before either of us could say more, my phone started buzzing. Matt’s name flashed on the screen. I answered quickly, putting the call on speaker.
“Hey,” I greeted casually, expecting him to laugh about the comments with me.
“Have you seen my comment section?” His voice was tense, his tone clipped.
I sat up straighter. “Uh, yeah. People are being dumb. Who cares?”
“I care,” he snapped. “It’s not just about you, Y/N. They’re not even saying awful things about me. Its just about how I ‘picked the wrong girl’ or whatever. It’s everywhere.”
Charlie raised an eyebrow at me, mouthing, ‘Seriously?’
“Matt, they’re just bitching,” I said, trying to stay calm. “You know none of that matters.”
“It’s easy for you to say,” he shot back. “Your TikTok isn’t flooded with comments about how I ‘deserve better’ or how you’re ‘using me for clout.’ It's pissing me off.”
I sighed, running a hand through my hair. “Okay, so what do you want to do? We can’t control what people say.”
There was a pause on the other end of the line before he spoke again, his tone softer but still firm. “Troll back. Lets just start making whatever we are way more public give them a real reason to be mad.”
I hesitated, glancing at Charlie, who was already nodding eagerly as if to say, ‘Just do it.’
“Fine,” I said finally. “Let’s do it, I love being a dick online.”
Matt let out a breath, some of the tension easing from his voice. “Deal. I’ll come over later.”
As I hung up, Charlie smirked at me. “Hes gonna make you do porn on tiktok.”
“We havent even fucked,” I said, rolling my eyes.
“WHAT?” She yelled jumping up sitting straight up “What the fuck was going on the other night than?”
“He just ate me out and oh my god the hottest thing ever, he was so turned on that started jerking off. Just to eating me out” I said feeling a warmth between my legs rethinking about the night me and Matt shared.
“Wow. Thats really fucking hot, hes inlove with you” Charlie said looking away from me “Im picturing it in my head. I'm jealous” I laughed at her response as we laid back down going back to our phones.
Later that night, Matt came over, his irritation over the comments still lingering but hidden under his usual calm demeanor. I greeted him at the door, grinning as I waved him inside. "Ready to show the internet who's boss?"
He smirked, shaking his head. "You mean, ready to show the internet that I don’t care, but also kind of care? Yeah, let’s do this."
Charlie, lounging on the couch with her popcorn, chimed in. “Make it iconic, okay? Something that makes the haters cry.”
Scrolling through TikTok, I landed on the “A boy who’s jacked and kind” trend. I turned the screen to Matt. “How about this one? It’s simple, it’s bold, and it’ll get them talking.”
Matt glanced at the screen, then at me, his lips quivering into a smirk. “You really think you can handle me lifting you like that?”
“Please,” I scoffed. “The question is whether you can handle me.”
Charlie snorted from the couch. “Oh, this is going to be good.”
We set up the phone, positioning it on the kitchen counter for the perfect angle. Charlie jumping around on the couch in the back, I stood in front of Matt as the trend’s audio began playing. The line “A boy who’s jacked” came up, and right on cue, Matt’s hands slid to my hips. With a swift, practiced motion, he lifted me effortlessly, placing me on his shoulder like I weighed nothing.
I couldn’t help the laugh that escaped me as I balanced on his shoulder, gripping onto him for support. The audio continued, transitioning to “and kind,” and Matt gave the camera with a playful grin, tapping my leg lightly.
Matt walked over grabbing his phone while I was still on his shoulders, added the caption: “my lady” and hit post.
Charlie shrugged, looking over Matt’s shoulder. “I like my cameo.”
Matt gently lowered me back to the ground, his hands lingering on my waist. “Think that’ll do the trick?”
I leaned into him slightly, grinning. “Oh, it’ll definitely stir the pot. But at least this time, it’s on our terms.”
We flopped onto the couch next to Charlie, refreshing the post to watch the views climb almost instantly. Matt wrapped an arm around me, pulling me closer as the first wave of comments rolled in.
As we sat on the couch, watching the likes and comments roll in from Matt’s TikTok, I turned to him with a mischievous grin. “Okay, now it’s my turn. We’re making one for my account.”
Matt raised an eyebrow. “Alright. What’s the plan?”
“You’ll see,” I teased, grabbing his hand to pull him up. “We need a parking lot for this one.”
Without hesitation, he stood, grabbed his keys, and intertwined his fingers with mine.  I laughed as he practically dragged me to the door, his excitement contagious.
“BYE LOVERS! Chris and Nick will be here when you get back!” Charlie yelled from the couch.
“Bye baby!” I yelled back to her
By the time we reached the car, I was giggling uncontrollably. “You don’t even know what we’re doing yet.”
“Don’t care,” he said opening the passenger door for me. “You said parking lot, so we’re going to a parking lot.”
The drive was filled with us singing to old songs wed listen to in college. His curiosity clearly bubbling under the surface. “So,” he finally asked, “are you going to clue me in, or do I just wing it when we get there?”
I smirked, looking out the window. “You’ll know when the time comes.”
He shook his head, chuckling as he turned into a small, dimly lit parking lot. “This good enough for your tiktok?”
“Perfect,” I said, hopping out of the car. I grabbed my phone and propped it up against the tire, adjusting the angle until it captured the open space behind us.
Matt leaned against the car, watching me with amused curiosity. “Alright, sweetheart, what’s the move?”
I pulled up the audio and played it for him, explaining as it went. “Okay, so, I start spinning in the frame when the music begins, and then you run in, pick me up, and keep running off-screen.”
He nodded, walking away.
I laughed, hitting record and jogging into position. The audio started, and I spun slowly, my arms outstretched as the music swelled. ‘You better lock your phone-’ Right on cue, Matt dashed into the frame, scooping me up effortlessly. I squealed in surprise as he kept running, the camera capturing the two of us disappearing into the shadows.
When he finally stopped, both of us were laughing uncontrollably. “That was perfect,” I said, catching my breath as he set me down.
“Obviously,” he teased, brushing a strand of hair from my face. “Now, let’s see it.”
We walked back to the car, reviewing the footage together under the soft glow of the streetlights. The video was exactly what I had imagined.
“You’re posting that, right?” Matt asked, his arm draped casually over my shoulder.
“Absolutely,” I said, uploading the video with the caption: “my future baby daddy.”
As we got back into the car, I glanced over at him, grinning. “You really don’t question anything, do you?”
He shrugged, kissing my forehead. “Not when it comes to you.”
When we got back to the house, the sound of voices and laughter greeted us as we stepped inside. Chris and Nick were now sprawled out on the couch with Charlie, the TV playing in the background.
As soon as I walked in, a wave of excitement hit me. Everything had been going so well lately, and I couldn’t help but feel like life was finally falling into place. “Guys!” I yelled, throwing my arms up in the air. “We should celebrate tonight!”
Nick perked up, looking intrigued. “What are we celebrating exactly?”
“Everything!” I exclaimed. “Life!”
Chris laughed, shaking his head. “Yes Y/N! I LOVE CELEBRATING LIFE!” Chris jumped up wrapping his arms around my shoulders behind me as we jumped like school girls.
Nick’s face lit up. “Well, if we’re talking about celebrating, I know Tara Yummy is throwing a party tonight. Should we go?”
Charlie’s eyes widened with excitement. “I’m in! We haven’t been to one of her parties. We've only ever dmed her a few times about a collab”
Matt looked over at me, smirking. “You good with that?”
“Absolutely,” I said without hesitation, “Let’s go, I can tell Chris is gonna match my freak tonight” I said while patting his arm that was hanging on me.
Charlie laughed at me and Chris jumping around, we exchanged a quick glance before I turned, pointing toward the door. “Alright, you three. Go home and get ready.”
Nick groaned but stood up, dragging Matt with him. “Fine, but you better not take forever.”
“No promises!” Charlie called out as the boys headed out, leaving us to start planning our outfits for the night.
The moment the boys left, Charlie and I raced upstairs to start getting ready. The excitement of the night buzzed between us, making us laugh and talk over each other as we dug through our closets for the perfect outfits.
“I’m thinking something bold,” I said, pulling out a burgundy strapless corset top that hugged my figure and showed off just the right amount of cleavage. I paired it with a tight black cloth skirt that barely covered my ass and my black heeled boots. “What do you think?”
Charlie whistled, grinning. “Matt’s going to fuck you infront of everyone.”
I laughed, tossing a pillow at her. “We’re celebrating life, remember? What about you?”
She held up a black crop top with thin straps that fit her perfectly and paired it with a jean mini skirt that showed off her long legs. She added a pair of cute ankle boots. “How’s this?”
“Absolutely stunning,” I said with a grin.
We got to work on our makeup and hair, After straightening my hair and leaving it sleek and shiny, I turned to Charlie, who was curling her hair into loose waves.
“You’re going to have every guy at that party eating out of your hand,” I teased, spraying her hair with setting spray.
“Please, as long as Chris is that's all I care ‘bout,” she shot back, but her smile was wide.
By the time we finished, we took a couple pictures in the mirror, grinning like excited to finally meet Tara, and get drunk.
“Let’s do this,” I said, grabbing my phone to text the boys to let them know we were almost ready.
“They better not keep us waiting,” Charlie added with a laugh as we headed downstairs, our heels clicking against the floor, excitement building for the night ahead.
Charlie and I were halfway through our second nip of vodka, as we danced around the kitchen. The boys walked in just as I tipped the tiny bottle back, the liquid burning slightly as it slid down my throat.
“Starting without us?” Nick teased. Chris followed close behind, already laughing at the scene.
Matt came in last, his eyes locking on me immediately. I caught the smirk tugging at his lips as he walked over. Just as I was placing the empty nip on the counter, his hands slid around my waist, and one moved down to grab my butt firmly.
I shrieked, startled, and spun my head around to glare at him, but he leaned down to whisper in my ear, his voice low and teasing. “Let’s go.”
The sound of his voice sent a shiver down my spine, and I turned back around, trying to hide my flushed face as I reached for my bag. Charlie wiggled her eyebrows at me but said nothing as she grabbed her purse and slid her phone into it.
“All set?” Chris asked.
“Matt’s driving,” Nick said with a grin.
“Lucky me,” I said, giving Matt a playful smirk. “That means you can take care of me when I'm hammered.”
He rolled his eyes but smiled, gesturing toward the door. “Per usual.”
Charlie and I followed the boys outside, the cool night air hitting our skin as we clicked down the driveway in our heels. Matt opened the passenger door for me, and I slid in, adjusting my skirt as he walked around to the driver’s side. Charlie climbed into the back with Chris and Nick, and we were off, heading for Tara’s party.
The car was filled with excitement and music as we drove, everyone hyped for the night ahead. I leaned back in my seat, sneaking a glance at Matt as he drove, his hand gripping the wheel tightly, the other holding my thigh.
The house was packed with music blasting through the speakers and groups of people talking and laughing in every corner. As we walked in, the energy was electric.
“Y/N! Charlie!” A high-pitched squeal came from across the room, and Tara was practically sprinting toward us. She threw her arms around me first, then Charlie, her excitement contagious. “I was so excited when Nick told me you guys were coming! Finally, I get to meet the infamous Y/N and Charlie. You’re even prettier in person!”
Charlie and I exchanged amused smiles. “You’re so sweet, Tara,” I said, hugging her back.
“Come on,” Tara said, linking her arms with ours. “Let me show you where the drinks are. We’re getting started right now.”
She led us through the crowd, leaving Matt, Nick and Chris to socialize with other people, to a makeshift bar setup on the kitchen counter, complete with every type of alcohol imaginable. Tara wasted no time, grabbing shot glasses and pouring tequila like a pro.
“Let’s go, ladies,” she said, holding up her shot glass.
“Cheers!” we all yelled, clinking glasses before throwing back the first shot.
And then the second.
And then the third.
Before long, Charlie and I were fully committed to a shot-for-shot competition with Tara, each round getting harder to keep up with her.
“Come on, lightweight!” Tara teased as Charlie hesitated before the seventh shot, but I wasn’t about to back down. I threw our shot back, wincing as the burn hit my throat.
By the time an hour had passed, the three of us were absolutely obliterated. Tara was laughing so hard she was leaning on the counter for support, and Charlie and I were clinging to each other to stay upright.
“I love you guys,” Tara slurred, throwing her arms around us. “You’re my favorite people in the world now.”
“You’re my favorite!” Charlie yelled back, equally as drunk, before dissolving into giggles.
I nodded enthusiastically, my head spinning but too far gone to care. “Best friends forever,” I declared, raising my empty shot glass in the air like it was some kind of victory trophy.
The party was in full swing, the music pounding in my chest as I stumbled my way through the crowd, drink still clutched in my hand. My vision blurred slightly, but I was riding a wave of tipsy confidence—until I spotted him.
Matt.
He was leaning casually against the wall, talking to some girl. She was laughing at something he said, leaning in just a little too close. A flash of annoyance surged through me, cutting through the haze of alcohol. My mind betrayed me, flashing back to our college days—Matt fucking girl after girl.
Fueled by jealousy and bad judgment, I stormed across the room, stumbling slightly but determined. “What the hell is this?” I blurted, my voice louder than I intended.
Matt straightened up, his brows furrowing as he looked at me. “Y/N—”
“No, seriously,” I slurred, gesturing wildly at the girl. “What’s happening here?”
The girl blinked in confusion, clearly caught off guard. “Uh, I’m gonna go...” she muttered, excusing herself quickly as the tension between Matt and me became palpable.
Matt’s jaw tightened, and before I could say another word, he grabbed my wrist. “We’re not doing this here,” he said firmly, his voice low but commanding. He pulled me through the crowd, ignoring my protests, until we were in a quiet, empty room.
He let go of my wrist, closing the door behind us. Turning to face me, his eyes were sharp, his tone clearly pissed. “What the fuck was that, Y/N?”
“I could ask you the same thing!” I shot back, swaying slightly on my feet. “Talking to some random girl like I don’t even exist? What’s the deal, Matt? Back to your old habits?”
His hands went to his temples, rubbing them in frustration. “Are you serious right now? She’s just a friend! And even if she wasn’t, that’s not what this is. You’re drunk and making something out of nothing.”
“I saw the way she was looking at you,” I accused, my voice trembling. “And you weren’t exactly pushing her away.”
He took a step closer, his voice lowering as he leaned in. “Y/N, you’re drunk. You’re not thinking straight. Chill the fuck out.”
As Matt’s words echoed in the small, dimly lit room, I could feel the tension building, the weight of everything from the party to my frustrations pressing down on me. But then, unexpectedly, the alcohol made everything feel lighter.
I giggled, the sound bubbling up uncontrollably from my chest. "I love you," I blurted out, the words slipping out before I could stop them.
Matt looked at me, eyebrows raised, clearly taken aback by my sudden shift in mood. "What?" he asked, his voice a mix of confusion and amusement.
I shrugged, the smile on my face turning mischievous despite the still-present anger in my head. "I mean, I do," I said, a silly grin stretching across my face.
He stood there, speechless for a moment, his eyes searching mine. His lips quirked upward into a small, amused smile as he let out a deep breath. "You’re drunk, Y/N."
"Yeah, I know," I said, still grinning, "but I still love you."
He shook his head, chuckling lightly, before stepping closer. "You're lucky you're cute when you're drunk."
"You still love me, though," I teased,
"Yeah, I do," he admitted, his expression softening. "But let's get you back to the party before you start loving everyone."
I laughed again, “How about you just let me love you..” I pushed Matt back as he stumbled onto the bed.
“y/n don't… you're drunk.” Matt said as I walked towards him, placing myself on his lap.
“Just shut the fuck up Matt and kiss me”
And when he finally gave me what I wanted, his lips crashing against mine as he moved against me, the world disappeared. There was only Matt—his touch, his voice, his everything.
Matt’s hands gripped my hips, his hold firm but controlled, as if he was grounding himself as much as he was grounding me.
His body was flush against mine, every inch of him radiating heat. “Wait till tomorrow,” he murmured, his lips brushing against mine, teasing but not giving me the kiss I desperately wanted. “I refuse to fuck you this drunk, y/n. And you are making it oh so hard”
“Shut up,” I whispered, tugging at his hair to start kissing his neck as I grinded my hips into his.
His hands roamed over my body, exploring every curve, every inch of skin he could reach. His touch was both gentle and possessive, a reminder that in this moment, I was his and his alone.
“Get off me before I go against all my morals,” he said, his voice rough and full of promise. “I say full of love and respect.” he moaned out as I perfected my last hickey on him.
“There, I just needed you to shut up so I could show people. You belong to someone” I said as I leaned back looking at my work.
“Good to know.” Matt said as he leaned down, starting his own art peace on my chest.
Once he was finished he grabbed my hips standing me up. “Lets go baby” He grabbed my hand pulling me towards the door. I stopped in the mirror fixing my hair and seeing Matt's two hickeys, one on each breast. Matt walked over to the mirror inspecting the couple I left trailing down his neck. “God you are so sexy” He said, kissing my cheek as he guided me out to the party.
As Matt and I stepped back into the party, the loud music and chatter hit me like a wave. The room felt like it was spinning a little, but I held onto Matt's arm for balance. We were just about to make our way back to the group when Chris spotted us from across the room.
He ran over with a mischievous glint in his eyes. "There you are," he said, stopping in front of us. His eyes flicked between Matt and me before landing on me. "Y/N, I need you bad."
My eyebrows shot up, and Matt's posture immediately tensed beside me, sensing something was off. Chris, however, seemed entirely unfazed by the undercurrent of tension.
"I'm sorry," Chris said with a playful shrug, glancing over at Matt, "No, not like that anymore. I need you as my beer pong partner." He laughed realizing how bad his first sentence sounded.
Matt's grip on my arm tightened, but before I could even ask what he meant, Chris waved a hand dismissively and added with a wink, I couldn't help but laugh, feeling the tension ease a bit. "You scared me for a second there," I joked, shaking my head at Chris.
Matt let out a small laugh too, his shoulders loosening as he realized it was just Chris being his usual, over-the-top self. "Yeah, she’s off-limits for now," Matt said, his tone affectionate but teasing. "But you can have her for beer pong."
Chris grinned and pulled me toward the game, but not before giving Matt a quick look. "Don't worry, I only need her to win this game. And you," he added, glancing at me, "are the best person for the job."
"Let’s do it then," I said, grinning and ready to dive into the chaos of the game, trying to push any lingering doubts aside.
Chris, despite being a bit too drunk to focus, had an energy that was hard to ignore. He bounced on his feet, grinning like a madman as he lined up to take his first shot. “Alright, we got this, Y/N,” he said with way too much confidence, raising his beer.
Across from us, Jake and Tara stood ready, both giving us playful smirks. Tara was already holding her own drink, clearly just as drunk as me, while Jake had a look of determination on his face, obviously eager to win. “You’re going down,” Jake said with a laugh, tossing the ping pong ball up and readying himself to launch it across the table.
Nick and Matt stood off to the side, cheering us on. Nick was practically jumping up and down in excitement, while Matt pushed himself off the wall, going behind me whispering in my ear. "Come on, Baby"
The game started off slower than I expected, with Chris getting distracted by anything and everything—whether it was a drink on the table or someone else at the party walking by. But even in his drunken state, he was surprisingly good. Tara missed her first few shots, but Jake was still hitting his, making me sweat a little. I had to focus, but thankfully, Chris and I managed to keep our heads in the game.
We took turns, and each time, I felt the tension rise. Tara and Jake had their competitive energy going, but it was clear Chris and I had the upper hand—probably because Tara and Jake were having more fun than they were serious about winning. Chris finally got it together after a few more missed throws, throwing his ball with incredible force and sinking it into one of the last cups.
“Fuck yeah!” Chris shouted, stumbling and almost tipping over. I had to grab him to stop him from falling off balance.
In the final round, it came down to one last shot. Jake was up, and I knew he was going to give it everything he had. He took a deep breath, lined up his shot, and threw the ping pong ball—only for it to bounce off the rim and miss entirely. The room fell silent for a second before Chris and I erupted into cheers.
“We did it!” I yelled, laughing as Chris grabbed me in a half-hug and spun me around. “I can’t believe we won!”
Nick and Matt, who had been watching from the sidelines, immediately started clapping and cheering. “FINALLY!” Nick shouted, high-fiving Chris.
Tara and Jake laughed good-naturedly, though I could tell they were a little disappointed. “Alright, alright, you guys earned it,” Jake said, tossing a playful glare in our direction.
An hour had passed, and the energy of the party was starting to get to me. I could feel the buzz starting to wear off, and I was ready to head home. I looked over at Matt, who was leaning against the wall, talking to Nick. He caught my eye, and I gave him a small nod, silently telling him I was ready to go.
I walked over to him, tapping him on the shoulder. "Matt, I think it's time to head home," I said, trying to keep the smile on my face, but feeling the exhaustion from the party creeping in. The lights were too bright, the music a little too loud, and I just wanted to go back to the comfort of my place.
Matt nodded, his hand immediately finding mine. "Alright, let's get out of here," he said, pulling me toward the door. We waved to Tara and a few others as we made our way out of the party and into the cool night air.
Nick, who went to get Chris and Charlie, was already making his way to the car, pulling Chris and Charlie along with him. We all piled into the car, with Matt driving, me in the passenger seat, and the rest of the crew in the back. The ride was mostly quiet, everyone content in their own thoughts after a long night.
As we drove through the city streets, I could feel the tension finally easing. The party was fun, but there was something about heading home with Matt, knowing the night was winding down. I leaned my head against the window, watching the streetlights blur past as we made our way home.
Matt glanced over at me, a small smile on his face. "You good?" he asked, his voice soft.
"Yeah," I replied, smiling back at him. "Just ready to be alone with you."
We drove the rest of the way in comfortable silence, the sounds of the car and the occasional laugh from the backseat filling the air. The night had been eventful, but now all I wanted was the peace of being home with Matt.

Just Go part 4... The End - Chris Sturniolo
a/n: welcome to the end pookies!! enjoy
just go part 2 part 3
you felt like a stranger in your own skin as you pushed through the crowded party. The thumping bass of the music vibrated through your bones, but it couldn’t drown out the thudding of your heart. you had come here to escape, to forget, but now the weight of what happened earlier felt suffocating. Chris likes Harper. Not you.
Why did you even come? pushing past a couple of people laughing by the kitchen. But as you walked deeper into the house, your eyes naturally found Chris. He was standing in a small circle with some friends, but Harper—of course—was right there, leaning into him as if they were already in their own world.
The sight twisted something in your chest. It wasn’t just jealousy anymore—it was something sharper, like betrayal. seeing it now, in person, felt like salt in an open wound.
Before you could look away, Chris caught their eye. The flicker of recognition passed between you guys, and in that instant, everything seemed to stop. He excused himself from Harper and started making his way toward you. your pulse quickened, a mixture of fury and something else—something that felt uncomfortably like longing.
No. you couldn’t do this. Not tonight. Not after everything.
When Chris reached them, he was breathing a little heavier than usual, clearly flustered. “Hey,” he said, running a hand through his hair, his voice hesitant. “You made it.”
You crossed their arms tightly, feeling a rush of emotions you couldn’t process all at once. you forced a tight smile. “Yeah, I thought I’d come for the free drinks and the real entertainment.”
Chris winced at the sarcasm. “I know things have been weird... but I didn’t think it was this bad.” His gaze flickered toward Harper, who was watching them from across the room.
Chris’s expression faltered, his lips pressing into a thin line. “I wasn’t trying to hide anything from you, Y/N. I didn’t want you to get hurt.”
“Is that what you tell yourself?” you asked, unable to keep the edge from your voice. “You think you can just sweep everything under the rug, pretend like I don’t have feelings? Because here’s the truth, Chris: I’m not the one who needs to be protected here.”
Chris stepped forward, his voice dropping. “Y/N, I never meant to hurt you. You have to believe me. You’ve always been...” He stopped, looking lost for words.
“Always been what?” you challenged, your voice growing colder. “Your second choice? Your fall-back plan? Is that it?”
Chris’s face softened with regret, his eyes desperate. “No, you’re not that to me. I care about you. But...”
“But?” you repeated, cutting him off. “But what? You care about me, but you’ve been chasing Harper this entire time, Chris. How long were you planning on stringing me along? Because, news flash, I’m not waiting for you to figure it out anymore.”
Chris opened his mouth to say something, but before he could, Harper suddenly appeared at his side, her voice dripping with sweetness, but with a dangerous edge. “What’s going on here, you two? Did you need a little private chat?”
you turned to face her, your pulse quickening. Harper’s eyes gleamed with a strange satisfaction as she looked between you and Chris. She wasn’t even pretending to hide the power she had over him. “I think Chris has been very clear about his feelings, haven’t you, babe?”
Chris’s jaw clenched, but he didn’t answer. Instead, his eyes flickered briefly to you, almost like he was looking for approval, but he said nothing.
your heart felt like it was breaking, but you refused to let it show. Instead, you looked right at Harper, cutting through the tension. “You two are really something, aren’t you?” you said, your voice like ice. “You’ve been playing this game for months, pretending you care about me when all along you were just setting me up as some... rebound.”
Harper shrugged, unfazed. “Rebound? Maybe. But if the shoe fits…” She tossed her hair back with a smug smirk. “To be fair, I didn’t think he was going to fall for you. But he did. I guess it was fun while it lasted.”
you stared at Harper, anger and hurt crashing through you, but something deep inside clicked. you were done being the victim of this twisted little game. you turned to Chris, your eyes narrowing. “I’m done with both of you,” you said flatly.
But just as you turned to leave, something unexpected happened. Chris grabbed your wrist, his grip firm but gentle. “Wait,” he said urgently. “Y/N, please listen.”
you spun around, eyes blazing. “No. I’m done listening. I’m done with the lies, done with being a fucking second choice.” you yanked their wrist out of his grasp.
But Chris didn’t let go. He pulled you in, his hands on your shoulders, his eyes locking with yours in a way you'd never seen before. “Y/N, don’t walk away. I fucked up,” he said, his voice low but earnest. “I’ve been a coward, and I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have kept you in the dark. But it was never about Harper. It was always you. You just... you have to trust me on this.”
you felt a mix of disbelief and something else—a rush of longing you had tried to suppress for so long. The anger was still there, but it was tangled up with something raw. Something real.
“Prove it,” you whispered, barely able to hear their own voice over the pounding music. “Prove that you want me. Because right now, I’m not sure you even know who the hell I am.”
Chris took a step back, eyes wide, then nodded. “I can prove it. I will. Just give me a chance.”
you stared at him for a long moment, your breath catching in your throat. you could feel Harper’s eyes burning into them from across the room, but for the first time that night, you didn’t care.
“Fine,” you said finally, their voice low. “You’ve got one chance to make this right, Chris. Don’t screw it up.”
Chris’s face broke into a genuine, relieved smile. And for the first time, it wasn’t forced. “I won’t,” he promised, his voice filled with determination.
He drags you to the yard, away from all the people, away from the music and the alcohol..
it was just the two of you.
“I was a mess, Y/N. I was so scared to face the truth that I just let things happen. I didn’t know how to break things off with Harper, and I thought… I thought I could handle everything, but I can’t. I didn’t want to lose you, but I knew I was losing myself by trying to keep you around while still being hung up on her. I messed up, and I don’t deserve your forgiveness, but I’m willing to prove to you that I can be the person you deserve.”
You listened as he explained himself, still not understanding why he chose harper over you, why he did what he did if this is how he truly felt.
“I don’t expect you to trust me right away, but I need you to know that I’m here for the long haul. I don’t want to play games anymore. No more secrets. I’m not perfect, but I’m willing to do whatever it takes to make this right. But I need you to tell me what you need. I can’t fix things unless you let me know what you need from me.”
He tucks a strand of her hair, kissing her cheek before getting up and walking away. you watch him leave, being left alone with your thoughts.. would he ever tell you why he did what he did? should you forgive him? it all came crashing into your thoughts.
A few days go past, you hadnt heard from chris until one night he messages you..
Chris:
“I know you’ve been dying to see that documentary about that photographer you love. I got us tickets for tomorrow night. no pressure. But I want to spend some time with you, the right way. If you’re up for it, I’m here.”
You smile at your phone, quickly responding "sure"
Chris continued to spoil you, not really going into detail abt harper and why he randomly switched up from you to harper back to you but he made it clear that harper was no longer an issue.
you decided to give Chris another chance, but on your terms. you're not rushing into anything—you've learnt to trust yourself first, and now, you need to trust Chris with a more open heart. Chris’s consistent actions, honesty, and vulnerability make all the difference. Slowly, you lets down your guard. you find yourself laughing again in each other’s company, planning things together, and feeling like you can be your true selves with him—no games, no secrets.
you guys take your time. There’s no immediate rush to label things, but trust and communication gradually grow back, until one day, Chris holds your hand and says, “I’m not going anywhere. I want this with you, for real. You’re it.”
you, with a soft smile, reply, “I believe you.”
a/n: this is pretty rushed bc i geniunely had zero of an idea on how to finish the series.

Trust and Believe IV
Tumblr media
summary: Keyshia and Joe had a seemingly perfect life together after marrying in 2010. However, as their careers grew, so did the strain on their relationship. When Joe cheats on Keyshia. The emotional fallout from the incident leaves their relationship hanging in the balance, with Keyshia questioning if they could ever recover from the betrayal.
Joe had just returned home from Los Angeles, his mind still buzzing from the whirlwind events surrounding WWE’s Raw on Netflix premiere. He had spent most of the weekend on the road, surrounded by bright lights, cameras, and the familiar faces of the wrestling world. But now, back in his own home, everything felt off. It was too quiet. The kind of silence that felt unnatural. As if something was missing. Something… or someone.
The house was cold—an icy chill in the air that made Joe shiver as he stepped over the threshold. He dropped his bag by the door and looked around, squinting in the dim light. The place felt empty. He should have been used to this by now. Keyshia and the kids often did their own thing when he was away. But tonight, it felt different. Too empty. Too still.
"Kids? Keyshia?" he called out, his voice echoing down the hallway.
Nothing. No footsteps. No distant sound of laughter or TV noise. It was like the house had been abandoned. He tried again, a little louder this time. "Keyshia?"
His pulse quickened, the first flicker of panic creeping in. He walked deeper into the house, his shoes clicking against the hardwood floors. The living room was quiet, the kitchen untouched. The refrigerator door was ajar, but nothing else seemed to have moved. He knew from experience that Keyshia liked to keep everything in its place, and this absence—this unnerving silence—felt like a sharp contrast to the usual chaos of their home.
He stood in the middle of the room, his chest tight. Where were they? He glanced at the clock. It was almost 10 p.m. The kids should have been home, settling into their routines for the night. He should’ve at least heard something. Maybe they went out for a while? But even as the thought crossed his mind, he knew something was off. He had just left for the weekend, and everything had been fine. So why the sudden disappearance?
His stomach sank as a wave of worry hit him. Did she leave me? The thought flashed through his mind like a jagged shard of glass. He shoved it away immediately, unwilling to even entertain the idea. But the more he thought about it, the more the question lingered. Had she finally had enough of his mistakes? Had she taken the kids and walked out on him? The guilt began to gnaw at him. It wasn’t hard to imagine why.
He couldn’t shake the image of the woman he’d brought back to his penthouse in Miami. It had been a mistake, a moment of weakness, but that was no excuse. Joe knew the truth—he had betrayed Keyshia’s trust. It wasn’t just about the fling, it was about the years of taking her for granted, of assuming that no matter what, she would always be there. The thought of losing her, of losing his family, twisted something deep within him.
This is my fault. I shouldn’t have done that. I’ve lost her.
The panic intensified as he walked through the house. He checked every room, every closet, even the garage. Nothing. No bags packed, no signs of a departure. His mind reeled, trying to figure out what had happened. Why was she gone? Had they argued? He hadn’t even spoken to her much over the weekend, caught up in the chaos of the premiere. They had texted, but it had been brief. He thought everything was fine.
But now, standing in the empty house, he realized how wrong he had been.
Desperation surged through him, and he fumbled for his phone. His fingers were shaky as he dialed Keyshia’s sister, LaKenya. LaKenya was three years older than Keyshia, and if anyone could give him some answers, it would be her. Joe had always thought that LaKenya knew her sister better than anyone else—sometimes even better than he did.
The phone rang three times before LaKenya’s voice picked up.
"What do you want?" she asked, her tone clipped.
Joe’s heart raced as he exhaled sharply. "The house is empty. Do you know where Keyshia and the kids are?"
For a long moment, there was silence on the other end. Then, LaKenya’s voice came through, dripping with sarcasm. "I hope that slut was worth it."
Joe’s stomach dropped. What the hell?
Before he could respond, the line went dead. She had hung up on him.
Joe stared at his phone in disbelief. Anger mixed with confusion and hurt. He didn’t understand. Why was she acting like this? He felt the sting of her words deep in his chest, the guilt becoming even harder to bear. I’ve messed up... But this?
As he stood there, holding his phone, he felt his heart drop into his stomach.
Back at LaKenya’s house, the reality of the situation set in. Keyshia was sitting on the couch next to her sister, watching the drama unfold. She couldn’t help but smirk as Joe’s frantic voice filled the airwaves, his desperation practically leaping through the phone.
"That was so mean," Keyshia said, glancing sideways at her older sister.
LaKenya chuckled, her eyes gleaming with mischief. "You gotta make them sweat a little. Let him feel the heat."
Keyshia rolled her eyes, but a small part of her couldn’t help but feel a bit entertained by the scene she had just orchestrated. She hadn’t exactly been communicative with Joe over the weekend, letting him stew in his own anxiety. She had planned the whole thing with LaKenya as a way of taking control, making him feel the weight of his actions. But even as she enjoyed the moment, there was a part of her that started to feel the sting of guilt.
He really is freaking out, she thought, her heart softening just a little. Maybe I should’ve told him where we were.
LaKenya, still amused, leaned back in her chair. "He deserves it. He hasn’t been paying attention to you, and now he gets a taste of what it feels like."
Keyshia sighed, folding her arms over her chest. "I don’t know. What if he reports me and the kids as missing? What if he thinks I really left him?"
LaKenya shrugged, unconcerned. "Then he’s a bigger fool than I thought. He should’ve kept his act together."
Keyshia nodded slowly, but there was a flicker of doubt in her eyes. She couldn’t just let Joe twist in the wind forever. As much as she wanted him to feel the consequences of his actions, she wasn’t cruel. "I’ll call him in an hour and let him know where we are," she said, finally relenting.
LaKenya raised an eyebrow, a playful smirk curling on her lips. "Yeah, let him sweat a little longer. He’s got to learn."
Meanwhile, back at Joe’s house, the sinking feeling in his chest hadn’t abated. He had tried calling Keyshia again, but this time, her phone went straight to voicemail. Frustration boiled over as he paced the living room, dialing another number. His cousins—Joshua, Jon, and Jon’s wife, Trinity—were on the other end of the line now, and he needed answers.
"LaKenya was no help," Joe muttered, rubbing his temples as he slumped into a chair. He could feel the spiral beginning, the downward pull of panic and regret. His chest was tight, his mind a mess of questions. "I don’t know where she is. It’s like they disappeared. I don’t get it."
Joshua’s voice came through, steady and calm. "Relax, Uce. Maybe she’s with one of her relatives or friends. It’s not the end of the world."
Jon, always the optimistic one, added, "Yeah, man. She’s probably just spending time with family. You know how it is. Don’t jump to conclusions."
Trinity, however, didn’t have the same reassuring tone. She could hear the desperation in Joe’s voice, and as much as she hated to admit it, she knew the truth. If Keyshia left him, then he has to face it. She sighed quietly before speaking, her voice softer. "Joe, if she left you, you have to accept it. Don’t make this harder on yourself."
Joe stood up, pacing once more, his mind racing. "I know, but still… she should have said something. She should’ve at least called me."
Joshua tried again, trying to bring some peace to the situation. "She’s probably just busy, man. You’re overthinking this."
But Joe wasn’t so sure anymore. He was spiraling, unable to stop the flood of guilt and fear that washed over him. If Keyshia had left, it was because of him. And the thought of losing her—of losing his family—was more than he could bear.
Tumblr media
When Keyshia and the kids finally arrived back at the house later the next day, the moment they stepped through the front door, she was immediately struck by the overwhelming scent of roses.
She blinked, taking in the sight in front of her. The entire living room and dining area were transformed into a sea of deep red roses—leading her eyes to the carefully arranged vases standing on almost every available surface. There were tall glass vases on the coffee table, the dining table, and even the console table near the hallway.
Keyshia's breath caught in her throat. She hadn’t expected this—hadn’t even considered that Joe might be trying to do something to win her back. She had been so wrapped up in her own frustrations, so convinced that he had given up on their relationship that the lavish gesture almost knocked the wind out of her.
"Joe?" she called out, her voice trembling slightly, unsure of what she was walking into.
No sooner had she said his name than he appeared from the hallway, his face a mixture of relief and anxiety, his eyes searching hers like a man who had been holding his breath for far too long.
Before she could react, Joe rushed toward her. Without a word, he grabbed her in a tight, desperate embrace, his arms wrapping around her like a vise. His chest pressed against hers, his breath ragged in her ear. Keyshia froze for a moment, her body stiff against his, before the weight of the situation hit her. His arms felt like a lifeline.
"I’m so sorry," Joe whispered, his voice hoarse as he buried his face in her shoulder. "I’m so sorry for everything, baby. Please... I didn’t mean to hurt you. Please don’t leave me. I can’t lose you."
Keyshia’s breath hitched, the overwhelming sense of emotion from the gesture, from his words, leaving her momentarily speechless. She had expected anger or perhaps more of the cold silence she’d felt over the weekend. But this—this raw, desperate apology—caught her off guard. The last few months had been filled with so much uncertainty, so much doubt. She had thought she was prepared to face whatever came next. But now, with him holding her like this, she wasn’t sure what to feel anymore.
The kids stood quietly by the door, sensing the tension in the room but unsure of how to react.
Joe didn’t let go. He held her tightly, almost as if he feared she might slip through his fingers again. His hands, shaking slightly, brushed against the back of her neck, pulling her even closer. He buried his face deeper into her hair, inhaling the scent of her, as though trying to ground himself in the reality of the moment.
Keyshia felt the warmth of his embrace, the weight of his body pressed against hers, and for a split second, she almost allowed herself to soften, to believe that he truly understood the depth of his actions. But then, the reality of everything that had happened between them—the lies, the betrayal, the hurt—came crashing back into her mind.
"Joe, what is all this?" she asked quietly, her voice soft but heavy with uncertainty.
He pulled back just enough to look her in the eyes, his hands still resting gently on her shoulders. His eyes were wide with emotion, raw and vulnerable. "I know I’ve messed up. I know I’ve hurt you. And I know words won’t fix this. But I’m trying, Keyshia. I’m trying to show you how sorry I am. I don’t want to lose you. I don’t want to lose my family."
Keyshia swallowed, the lump in her throat growing as she took in the scene around her—the roses, the vases, the soft glow of the light from the lamps, creating an almost dreamlike atmosphere. This was his apology, a lavish one at that. She could see that he had put in a lot of thought, a lot of effort. But in the back of her mind, a part of her knew that these gestures, no matter how beautiful, could never erase the hurt she had felt.
"Joe..." she began, but her words faltered as she struggled to make sense of it all. She pulled away slightly, feeling the weight of the moment settle in. "I don’t know what you want me to say. I don’t know what you expect from me."
Joe’s face dropped slightly, his brows furrowing in confusion. "I just want you to know I’m sorry, Keyshia. I know I can’t take back what I’ve done, but I want to do better. I want to show you that I can be the man you need, the man you deserve. Please, just give me a chance to prove it."
Keyshia closed her eyes for a brief moment, taking a deep breath. She could feel the sincerity in his words, the genuine regret in his voice. But that didn’t change the fact that he had hurt her. That didn’t change the feeling of betrayal that had settled deep within her heart.
"I don’t know, Joe," she whispered, her voice barely audible. "I want to believe you. I really do. But how can I, after everything? After what you did?"
Joe’s eyes filled with desperation. "I messed up. I know I did. But I swear, Keyshia, I will never do anything to hurt you again. Please, don’t walk away from me. Not like this."
Keyshia stood there, caught between the desire to stay and the fear of what staying might mean. She wanted to believe him. She wanted to believe that this apology, these flowers, the empty promises of change could somehow bring them back to the way they were before everything had gone wrong. But deep down, she knew that it would take more than a grand gesture to heal the wounds he had inflicted on her heart.
She glanced over at the kids, who were quietly watching the exchange with wide eyes. They had been through enough turmoil in the past few months. She couldn’t make a decision that would only confuse them more. But at the same time, she couldn’t pretend that everything was okay just because Joe had surrounded her with roses.
The silence stretched between them, thick and heavy. Joe stood there, his eyes searching hers, hoping for some sign that she would forgive him, that she would stay. But Keyshia wasn’t ready to make that decision yet. Not now, not like this.
"I need time, Joe," she said, her voice firm but gentle. "I can’t just forget everything and pretend like it’s all okay. You hurt me. And you hurt the kids. It’s going to take more than roses to fix that."
Joe’s face softened with understanding, though the disappointment was clear. "I get it. I just... I’m so sorry. Please know that I’ll do whatever it takes to make things right. Just… don’t give up on me. Don’t give up on us."
Keyshia nodded slowly, her heart torn between what was and what could be. "I’m not giving up on you, Joe. But I need you to show me, not just tell me. I need to see the change. I need to feel like I can trust you again."
Joe’s face lit up with hope, his shoulders relaxing a fraction. He stepped forward, pulling her into another embrace, this time gentler than before, but still full of the same desperate need. "I’ll prove it to you. I swear I will. I’ll do whatever it takes."
Keyshia hesitated for a moment, then returned his embrace, her arms wrapping around him, though with a certain reserve. She didn’t know what the future held for them. But for the first time in a long while, she felt a flicker of hope. Maybe they could find their way back. But it wouldn’t be easy. It couldn’t be.
For now, they would take it one step at a time.

Unexpectedly Tender
Tumblr media
A night of pleasure where Astarion is the only focus for once.
Astarion X Reader (18+ themes) cw: Astarion with afab anatomy, Cazador mentions, sexual content MDNI, oral (astar!receiving), use of 'cunt', fingering, hungry yearning even though you’re already together, and slight religious imagery? (I want to worship him, respectfully.) No other description other than you being taller and a drow.
7.2k words
Drows aren't particularly known for being the nicest of races, especially those sworn to the spider goddess with an odd sense of humor, yet the vampire spawn can use himself to prove that people can change, if not for the better. Of course, that's to insinuate this drow in particular was never anything but agreeable since the moment they met each other, even after the rogue pointed a knife at you for some answers fresh from the naultaloid.
That's not to say astarion liked you from the start, no there was an underlying bitterness on the spawn's part from your weirdly infuriating need to play savior wherever you went. The needy didn't stay the needy for long, and something so simple as retrieving a stolen pouch turned into a full-on family rescue mission. The whole heroic, spring-into-action type was someone that tended to get on Astarion's nerves, though he used to see himself the type to once marry someone like that.
Well, when he was about…13.
Regardless, you can only imagine how stupid Astarion felt when he realized that he liked your inherently nice nature, a major contradictory personality to his, and eventually came to terms that those feelings were a given.
Naturally, there were some chaotic times courtesy of Astarion's occasional goading to make a decision for the group's entertainment betterment, but you always took the change of plans in stride. Never angry, perhaps disappointed (expectedly), but forever the friendly hunk of underdark you were.
So, Astarion had to catch his neck from whipping off its swivel the moment your voice dipped off into a low growl at the woman in front of them, your eyes narrowed in irritation.
It would have been easy for Astarion, with the woman's (slightly creepy) persistence even after his third refusal, to simply allow you to give the alright to bite her should you ask. After all, what was one little bite in comparison to a rare, powerful potion? It would have been fine.
…Right?
'Just a small moment of disgust to get myself through,' but, surprisingly, you just stopped the spawn's half step forward and snapped, "he said no."
The tick in your jaw, the way your voice held no room for the usual patience and kindness, and lastly, the way your eyes darted to Astarion's in a flash of concern. You spoke with the authority of someone seasoned, as if your little group of lost souls have always been together, every one of your words carrying a stern weight and finality.
"Where are you?" You murmur, your words gentle and cutting through his mind like a knife through butter. There’s a small, nearly chaste kiss to his bare shoulder, and it nearly startles him.
The hands which were once gripping the spawn's supple backside above the fabric of his pants are now resting against the small of his back, gentle and not pressing, just below his ritual scars.
Astarion, coming back to his mind with you in your shared inn room, relishes in how the arms encircling him hold kindly, unburdened by the tension of restraint should he not want to continue, and he eases a quiet sigh.
'You'll never be like the others…'
"I'm right here, my love," he responds, his voice light and airy, bare from the false seduction dripping from the tips of his fangs.
You plant a kiss to the other's neck, careful to avoid the jagged skin that had healed two centuries ago, and Astarion closes his eyes when he notices that too.
"Are you sure? Because we can stop. I'm fine with just talking, or something."
The spawn slides his hand up your back and it comes to a stop on the back of your head, his slender fingers toying with the shorter hairs. You pull your head back in response to look at the vampire, and Astarion uses the leverage to pull you down toward him. If the awkward angle for your taller frame is uncomfortable, you don't say and only allow Astarion to do as he pleases.
"Or," Astarion exhales, his red eyes darting to your lips, "something," and then he's pulling them to his. Your lips slot together, moving a little out of sync only because of the temporarily different level of desire.
Astarion has always been hungry and hasty when kissing, all tongue and teeth and starving of the safety and affection he so desperately craved for the last two hundred years, like it would be snatched away from him. And, with Cazador around the corner, it could all very well be. The mere idea of it, never being able to see you again, seeing your smile as you walk the familiar path to his tent in the morning to ask him how slept, is detrimental to Astarion's psyche that had only just begun to snap its scattered pieces back into place.
You like to take your time, give slow and tender pecks that gradually press firmer and open wider when you pick up on the vampire's need for more, but there's always a subtle hesitation; a looming question you're unable to truly verbalize.
'Is this really what you want?'
Astarion is aware of this, of your innate sense of overprotection for him, of his trauma from being an alluring plaything for Cazador. He would never forget the look on your face the moment he told you a fraction of the hell he had to endure, all flared nostrils and pupils constricted in anger, and he would never forget the way he felt a subtle throb in between his legs. That called a different problem into question, however.
There was a conversation you had before about Astarion's reluctance for sexual intimacy, and you made sure he knew that you understood and was indeed obeying Astarion's request of going as slow as he needed you to.
The spawn remembers how nervous he was when he told you that he didn't think he was ready to be intimate yet, bated breath between his teeth though the vampire had no need to breathe. Being used for his body for so many centuries essentially defiled Astarion's views on sex, and he severely hoped you would understand his hesitance.
He couldn't deny that everything stirred at certain things you did, the ways in which you looked at him, how quick you moved to protect him whether physically or other, but he (with your steady guidance) grew self-aware. Realizing that, after discovering his decimated self-respect and self-worth, he wasn't ready, and he had the option to say...no.
And he wanted you to know that he came to that conclusion, deciding it would only be fair since you bestowed him the grace for self-discovery.
"Even though I know things between us are different," Astarion provided a forced giggle, his lips wobbling in the corners, the facade beginning to melt away into something unfamiliarly vulnerable, "being with someone still feels…tainted. Still brings up those feelings of disgust and loathing. I don't know how else to be with someone. No matter how I'd like to." You hadn't said anything for a minute or so, and Astarion still mildly adherent to his ways of self-deprecation had assumed you began to doubt whether or not to continue pursuing...whatever you were moving towards, especially being so soon after your previous conversation of Astarion's 'affection' being self-serving and under a completely false pretense at first, but before he could voice, 'It's fine if you think twice about us', you spoke.
"Astarion," your cadence was deliberate and measured, choosing your words carefully, "I'm not going after you for sex, and if I gave you that impression, I'm sorry. I'm ready when you're ready, I mean it. We can be together without having sex at all, if that would make you happy."
Astarion breathed a laugh, astonished yet still a bit half-hearted. "Now, now," he chided playfully, his voice smooth, effortlessly persuasive, "that almost sounds like a challenge."
But he wanted to believe that. He did.
He does.
But, even Astarion has a breaking point.
It took a while, fuck, there was no doubt about it. Several nights of seduction falling away to mentally drifting off at the beginning and apologizing profusely afterwards when Astarion began to feel uncomfortable and backtracked, but those moments of retraction didn't matter. You never showed signs of annoyance or frustration, as if you knew that was his way of pacing himself-his starting and stopping-and it would ease the tension weighing the vampire's shoulders when he saw you were only ever concerned. Your face would always be calm, sometimes peaceful, but your hands would hover in the space between your bodies, indecisive and unsure if the man wanted your touch in those moments or not. At times he welcomed it, releasing a little sigh when your warm palms caressed his undead skin, and other times, he needed a bit of space. You never showed disapproval, if you harbored some, whenever he would push away and leave a gap between you. You only waited for him. You always moved to the rhythm he set; stopping when he told you to stop, going when he told you to go, and Astarion was sure if he asked you to give him your heart, you would carve it out with your bare hands and hold it out to him with a smile on your face. It would surely keep beating in his hands, the love you so clearly shelter for him taking root within your arteries and replacing your frivolous need for blood.
It was an odd thing, foreign, being in control of a situation after centuries of enslavement.
However, Astarion feels a shiver travel up his spine as he drinks in the groan you release into his mouth, not unwelcome.
Without breaking your kiss, the vampire walks forward, pushing you back with a hand on your chest, and you simply follow, allowing Astarion to push and push until your back collides with the cushions of the room's bed. The plain brown blankets ruffle softly, a pillow falls to the ground with a gentle thud, the mattress sinks underneath your weight as your elbows move behind you to prop your upper body, and then there's a moment of pause. Astarion's lips leave yours with a wet smack, a thin string of saliva curving in the very, very small space created by the separation, but Astarion watches you take one, two, two-and-a-half breaths before he reconnects them with a muffled moan. It's not necessary for him to breathe and he hasn't for the past two centuries, but he tries to be considerate of you.
You, content, take whatever the vampire gives you, filling and all-consuming and your lungs burning in your chest from the lack of oxygen, but you easily conclude that you would happily die here before moving away from him.
Your mind momentarily calls to the revive scroll resting in your pack, and there's a fleeting thought it might certainly come in handy tonight. Hands fumble for clothing, and when it all comes off, Astarion isn't sure where his body heat ends and where yours begin.
Everything is burning, throbbing, aching, and there's a steady pulse between the vampire's legs he can no longer ignore.
His head almost fights the motion to pull away, as if the mere notion is blasphemous, but nevertheless, Astarion pulls back and slowly opens his eyes. Your face beneath him is mildly obscured by a stray, silver curl, illuminated a pale yellow from the candlelight, but Astarion's vision clears the moment your hand delicately pins it behind his ear. Your fingers barely brush the elongated skin, but the vampire figures if his heart was still working, the action would have sent a considerable amount of blood to his cheeks.
"…You're so beautiful," your lips twitch upwards in the corners.
Astarion can't fight the urge to smile back, fangs and all, and his eyes, reminiscent of polished rubies and piercing, sparkle in adoration unbeknownst to him, darting back and forth from one of your eyes to the other. Though there's evident lust present, it becomes overshadowed by an unsure tenderness, your desires restrained in the taut of your neck, and the tips of your splayed fingers flex along the back of Astarion's knees. It's clear you're holding back, anxious to go any further despite Astarion's clear want, and the man knows that if he wanted to stop here even after going so far to be completely bare, you would let him and do so without complaint.
The vampire's thumb strokes your cheek absentmindedly, and your hands are on his chest, tenderly caressing the small indentations as if second nature.
"…So are you, darling,” the vampire kisses the tip of your nose.
The air is soft, your touches kind, and your breaths fan across the other's mouth acting as a heated, wine-scented aphrodisiac. But, as much as you soothe and woo him with cordial romanticism, you seriously need to get on with it.
So, leaning into the shell of your ear, Astarion gives you a nudge to do so. The pulsating is beginning to hurt at this point.
"Touch me," he sighs, and is able to feel the surprisingly violent shudder that racks through your body beneath him. "Please, my love," he adds. You hum. "…I am," you respond before pressing a wet, open-mouth kiss to the vampire's shoulder. "I will, fuck," you exhale, "I will."
The kisses start to travel the expanse of his skin, hot and occasionally pausing to suck and bite, up and down and wherever they can touch, trying to gauge his egregious zones, trying to see what's a yes or a no for him.
Pleasure blooms just below his stomach even though you had barely touched him yet, your fingers lightly tracing along the milky skin of his thighs spread across your lap. The pressure of your fingers gradually presses further but never restricting, never painful, only using Astarion's body as a grounding measure against your own raging urge to simply ravish the man on top of you.
'Not too fast,' you remind yourself, tilting your head backwards to reattach your lips to your lover's in a sloppy kiss Astarion happily accepts. 'Not too fast. Slow down, slow...'
You know Astarion can feel your arousal against the back of his thighs, but you stop yourself from grinding up into him, because this is all about him.
Astarion was sure he had never been this wet in his life, the nearly foreign sensation of tackiness between his thighs a bit of a sensational nightmare, and the need for release is essentially screeching in his brain, bouncing around his skull with unrestrained vigor, "touch me, touch me, fucking touch me!"
It's bordering on overwhelming and somehow feels under-stimulating at the same time. Foreplay was never a grace bestowed to Astarion while he entertained Cazador's newest sacrificial rat, them usually opting to put their own pleasure first above all else, so he wasn't entirely sure if the new experience is something he likes or hates. It feels like teasing, in a way, he supposes. Touching everywhere but where he so desperately needs, the pure torture of it all, yet it somehow makes everything better, more.
The buildup isn't bad, it's the waiting after that messes with his head.
You pull back, your half-lidded eyes staring up at Astarion, intense and almost predatory, and tug the spawn's hips forward an inch in a way that causes Astarion's heat to graze the warm skin of your lower stomach. The slight friction calls for a small gasp, a bout of pleasure flashing down the base of his spine, but things still.
"Can I...?" The question hangs off in the air, your hand, palm facing the ceiling, rests below Astarion's belly button and stops.
"Please," the spawn's eyebrows come together, now unafraid to display his frustration, and he begs, his voice tilting into a feral grumble. "Do something."
Astarion, even in the state he's in, doesn't miss the look that settles over your face the longer you stare up at him, your eyes narrow. It's shadowed, dark and hungry and wanting and in over two hundred years of being him, he finds himself unafraid to be at the receiving end of that familiar gaze. So many others sneered at him, licked their lips at the thought of mounting him as if he were nothing but this curly-haired elven beauty to be conquered, and he would let them, for Cazador. Some he would sleep with to possibly gain a sense of satisfaction, a small act of defiance to show that he could still enjoy sex on his own, but it usually ended up with this crushing ton of self-loathing on his sore back.
But, this time, it's different.
The look you're giving him sets him on fire, more scorching than the blistering flare of the goddamn sun, and his bottom lip slots between the front of his teeth in a last dash attempt to smother this pitiful thing of a choke gurgling atop the base of his tongue. He needs you; your touch, your fingers, your mouth, anything and everything he's been deprived of throughout all of this time. He's ready. Gods, he's ready.
And he commends you for your self-control, because Astarion is sure that he can't stop himself from having you now, not when you look at him like that-like you just want to fucking devour him down to the last strand of silver curl.
So, when your hand finally slips between his thighs and presses against his sweltering mound, your fingers gliding along his cunt with careful but firm precision, Astarion’s eyes nearly live up to his namesake. His back arches, his torso pressing into you so much your hand is almost squashed between the both of you, but you manage to keep the pace. There’s a silent determination ruminating from you, your motions; a promise to let him experience every gratification you have to offer and it’s clear that you’re not disappointing him. Your lover’s face falls slack, his mouth parting into a sharp ‘o’, and you resist the urge to lick at the tip of his fangs that peak under the edge of his kiss-bruised lips.
You concede, your eyes fervently follow a bead of sweat floating down the line of Astarion’s pallid neck, that no painting, nor sculpture, nor Gods can compare to your lover’s beauty. It could be a harrowing notion to others, some devout worshipers would probably sputter in indignation if you were to say that outloud, (Gale certainly would be up in arms to defend Mystra) but it remains an undeniable fact to you. His moans, uninhibited by rehearsed parade and uncomfortable deceit, spread across your face reminiscent of a sweetened vineyard swaying in the breeze that you can taste on your back molars.
You decide, right here and now, that you worship only one man, and his name is brighter than any cosmic piece of heaven.
“I,” Astarion suddenly stutters, cutting through your glorifying thoughts, and you only now notice he’s begun to roll his hips against your hand, creating a quicker friction. “Oh, plea...” His plea dies.
“Tell me,” your head lolls to the side to catch Astarion’s eyes, but he’s too lost in chasing whatever he needs to feel, “tell me what you need so I can give it to you.”
Unintentionally, your tone dips off as you get dragged further into the growing rigidity of your lover’s spine, the last part of your sentence dripping with desperate authority, and Astarion whines at the command in your voice that’s always so recognizable, but has him clenching around nothing in this context. This is better than he could have ever imagined, and his past sexual encounters, he gathers, don’t hold a fireball to you. There’s a volcanic simmer beneath his skin, a faint buzzing behind his eyes and the tips of his toes that leaves him both wanting to pull away and longing for more, and it's delicious.
“What do you want, my love? You want me to go faster?”
You gauge his face, searching for any signs of discomfort or dissociation since you both hadn’t truly gotten this far without some form of regression, but you realize, with a swell of pride warming your chest, Astarion is completely enjoying himself.
The vampire’s hips stall for a beat, the candlelight catching the jut of his hip, before he’s nodding, frantically, a few curls falling into his face from their usual sweep. They’re too pretty and frame his angular cheeks too well to brush away, so you leave them be, and instead choose to absorb this rare picture; an unpoised Astarion.
Your wrist pangs, a cramp begins to form along your flexing tendons, but you’ll be damned if you don’t listen to his request and you speed up your fingers, the sound of sloshing wetness ringing beautifully in the middle of your ear like church bells.
You noticed when first getting to know the spawn that he carried this innate air of grace, from his years as an elven magistrate, you assumed, and even when he found himself flustered, there was always something graceful about it. So seeing him like this, keening for your touch and working himself along your fingers to clumsily chase a high he rarely got acquainted to, uncaring about how disheveled he looks…
“Yes,” he whines, “yes, I can,” he moans, “I can feel it..”
You let him do what he wants, what he needs, only keeping the pace of your fingers in their same, quick succession, lest Astarion say otherwise. The buildup is evident in the slow tremble of his thighs, in the hand he uses to instinctively reach out for you as he feels his orgasm steadily approaching, seeking a sense of ground amongst the unfamiliarity, and you promptly lean forward to allow it to snake around the line of your shoulders. Astarion’s head falls to your collarbone and his straight nose is tucking into the junction of skin beneath your earlobe, his other hand settling by his thigh and curling into a fist around the blanket.
Your eyes almost roll into your skull when his pants of ecstasy float into your ear; they’re so much closer, much more clear, and now you can hear a faint crackle, his voice rasping the longer he moans out into the dim room.
“Gods, yes,” your lover whimpers, the sound going straight to your own arousal, “yes, yes!”
Astarion stills and it takes no magic tower mage to know the vampire’s orgasm crashed down unto him, if the sudden creamy texture pearling the tips of your fingers wasn’t indicative enough. His head tosses back, his back curving into a perfect concave ‘c’, and you lean forward to pepper the expanse of his neck with light pecks, your fingers slowing down to a lazy roll as an aid in helping the spawn on the come down. The sides of your thighs pick up the motion of curling toes and twitching kneecaps that are forced to keep themselves open on your naked hips, and a small smile stretches across your face.
Astarion’s chest is still, his vampiric attributes unable to provide him the need to take deep breaths, but his eyes are hazed, trained onto a piece of random ceiling tile. You sit against each other silently, holding him by the waist when his hips eventually stop twitching, and slowly pull your hand back, your wrist screaming in relief from being released of its awkward position. Your lover’s arm spasms, a false release of air hitching when you graze his sensitive clit.
“You okay?” You murmur, keeping your voice low to help Astarion pleasantly adjust.
It seems to help, and your smile widens a bit when the man’s head lowers and his eyes meet yours, red irises little by little clearing from their orgasmic fog to focus on your face. It takes a minute, perhaps two-it could have been an hour for all he knows-but he eventually gets there, and his tongue darts from his mouth to salivate his lips before he simpers, knowing he probably looks extremely satisfied. You certainly notice it.
It’s an expression you’ve seldom seen on Astarion’s face save for when he finishes feeding from a particularly big bear, or you when you eventually gave him permission for your blood.
“I’m,” he pauses, “I’m wonderful, my love. That was…”
Your gaze falls to your hand, Astarion’s juices coating your fingers in a shine bordering hypnotic, and you nod.
Astarion, now able to think in coherent lines of consciousness, is able to get a good look at you. He watches you, notices how your eyelids droop, your facial expression mirroring what he can only describe as melted adoration when your gaze languidly trails over his body before they flick up to his face. He’s seen that look so many times; admiration, but it’s never felt genuine before. There’s a warmth he receives from yours, one that washes over him and melts into his bones, forming his skin and shaping the very flutter of his lashes when you call him beautiful. The gentle touch on his waist pulls him back.
Your lips brush his, “my love,” and then they’re slotting back together.
The kisses start lazy, relaxed and unhurried to simply have his mouth on yours, tongues dancing along each other in an easy rhythm even without music, but then Astarion feels your legs shift beneath him. He’s hiked further in your lap, but he simply lets it happen, assuming you need to adjust to get comfortable. Though, he comes to find that he’s sorely mistaken when you suddenly lean back, subsequently taking him with you. You both fall onto the bed, Astarion letting out an adorable, “umph.”
Neither one of you says anything, but you do lean forward to place a kiss to Astarion’s cheek, just below his faint beauty mark before you pepper his entire face. Your lips touch the bridge of his nose, his chin, above his smoothing eyebrows, essentially anywhere you could reach, and the domesticity of it leaves him speechless for once.
“My sweet,” you whisper, pausing in between every few pecks to speak, “can you do something for me?”
Astarion hums, his eyes closing when your lips find his neck, and you take that as a sign to continue.
"Can you get on top?"
"I already am, my dear-"
"-I mean," you licks your lips, "on top…of my face."
"Oh."
There's a high-pitched giggle that bubbles in the base Astarion’s  throat, involuntary but fleeting.
'Well,' Astarion thinks, his eyes widening, 'this is…also new.'
You, seeing how he pauses at the suggestion, move your finger in small circles on his hip in reassurance, and your eyes soften. "You don't have to, I just thought you might enjoy it."
"I," Astarion clicks his tongue, "I've just…never done that before."
A beat. "…No one has asked you to sit on their face before?" It's your turn to appear so incredulous, finding something like that so…so disrespectful. "Never?"
Astarion shakes his head, now beginning to shrink a little under your sudden bemused stare. He knows you aren’t mad at him, you’re never mad at him (which is why he tends to get away with minimal consequence), but he sees that your upset is genuine. And you are upset, because how can anyone deny this epitome of stunning, masculine monarchy, his ivory throne, adorned with anything less than the most lustrous jewels? What absolute madman, blind and deaf, surely, would give Astarion anything but which he truly deserves? Gold, silver, should fall between his slender fingers, molten and only his, the rarest silks and velvets hanging from his pallid limbs not unlike the knots lining a hangman tree; gorgeously morbid as he.
It makes you mad all over again, picturing those rabid animals all over Astarion, taking and mindlessly ravaging with no incentive to offer a modicum of benevolence. Hounds, the lot of them, soulless and only living to harshly breed the unwilling. How, your chest tightens as your anger makes way for a pang of sorrow, how much Astarion has suffered. You don’t want his torment to loom over him any longer, so you’ll just have to remind him; you are his, in his control. His to love, to break, to leave if he wishes it so. If he is to love you for the remainder of your long lifespans together, or if he is to simply use you to remember that he is more than the body that’s grown so foreign to him, so be it.
Your very soul clutches his, fist trembling, taut, and knuckles deathly white like a frightened babe clinging to their mother’s skirt; craving, clenching to prevent the scattered pieces of Astarion from slipping through your fingers. You’ll hold him forever, if he’ll have you.
You will provide all you can, and accept all he’s willing to give in return, if anything. You can only hope that he receives you well and chooses you like you chose him.
Pushing those feelings down, you kiss your teeth before pulling the vampire's hips forward even more until he is basically sitting on your chest, the unexpected drag shooting a shudder of pleasure up his spine, and you smirk. Your strength often comes in handy at times. "We need to fix that. Now."
Astarion tries to hover at first, a bit too hesitant to allow his full weight to rest on your face even if his fear was a bit irrational; he’s seen you fight for Gods’ sake. And you aren’t having it. The grip on his hips grows unyielding as if they leave no room for further argument, and his puffy, flushed cunt is slowly lowering, taking its rightful place, against your open mouth. A stolen heir reunited with his true birthright, you surmise.
The pleasure that consumes you is almost too powerful, his taste flooding your senses and clouding your mind in an impenetrable smog of bliss, and you instinctively curse, your lips curling around the letters into his slick folds. Astarion releases a low whine, his head already falling towards the ceiling as if the fictional crown upon his head is too substantial, and he bucks his hips, relishing how your nose drags along his swelling bud. Your tongue explores at first, adagio to measure just where he might need you to be, but you find yourself indulging your thirst too quickly. It’s necessary, requisite, to feel his juices bead the tip of your tongue, his orgasm pooling down your throat essential for you to feel any sense of satisfaction for yourself, slurping and drinking and gulping like a man deprived for too long. Astarion’s body responds in kind; his hands reaching for you in the fray and tangling within your roots unceremoniously. It produces a moan from beneath him, the vibration against him causing a sound so ruined, it reminds you of a wounded sprite, but Astarion has never felt so safe. Even if your jaw practically aches as you attempt to inhale him (you’ll unhinge the damn thing if you have to), the man’s growing sounds spur you further, and Astarion briefly wonders if you’re truly trying to fucking eat him.
“Fuck,” he gasps, one of his hands releasing your hair to hold your forearm as it loops behind him to grip his waist.
Your hold is grounding, scalding, keeping him from getting too lost in himself, and he’s all the more thankful for it the moment your tongue slips further down his wetness to breach his hole, your nose nudging and grinding against his clit. He almost flinches away from the unexpectedness of it, but he gathers, that is what your arm around him is for.
“Fuck!”
Perhaps, Astarion’s eyes roll into his skull, this is the profound ascension Cazador is looking for; this feeling of your tongue splitting him open, lapping him along your tastebuds akin to a thirsting sinner kneeling in front of heaven’s locked gates. To him, this certainly feels no different than ascending to a higher power, and he swears he’s died-again-the moment your hand shifts to use the pad of your thumb to encircle his clit. His hips move on their own, burning from the strain but it feels so good, and rock back and forth, grinding.
You weren’t sure if you'd taken a single breath since he sat down, his thighs tightening on the sides of your face in a vice-like grip, non-verbally screeching at you to move ‘not a goddamn muscle’, not that it matters. Your view from between your lover’s legs, where you conclude your life was always meant to lead you, makes it easy to ignore the still of your chest, a dull scorch fixing around your stuttering heart as it struggles to handle the lack of oxygen. Astarion’s body glistens delectably, shiny from his sweat and arousal, and your eyes study the muscles in his stomach as they tense and twist and jump along with his keens and hisses of pleasure. Your lover’s movements titter the edge of desperate and feral, his hips rocketing along your face as if you were nothing more than an object to bring him to orgasm at this point.  ‘I’m not complaining,’ your eyes flutter closed. ‘Gods, I’m not.’
Astarion chases, following the catalytic pressure building in his stomach, tears forming behind his closed eyelids, and it goes up and up and up and-
His eyes fly open at a finger slipping past his entrance, nimble and thrusting and loudly coated in the slick of him. It’s deafening, how wet he is; it’s rich, nasty, and utterly debauched, but neither of you care. The air around you smells like sex and love and animalistic necessity, and the bed frame meets the wall in response to all of the movement.  “My darling,” Astarion cries, his voice wholly spent, raspy and sobbing. “My love, my sweet,” and he’s babbling. “Don’t stop, don’t-”
‘Wouldn’t dream of it.’
“Don’t-”
Astarion, with his vast vocabulary and overall knowledge from both his time as a spawn and original profession as a magistrate, finds himself unable to describe the sensations running through him. Everything is burning, his hips sting from their motions, his stomach feels tight, but there’s also something else; something deeper. It’s ardent, starting from the bottom of his feet and ending in his chest, and it makes him feel like something is going to happen, something powerful. It buzzes, pulsates, makes his body feel heavy, the pleasure coiling in the pit of his stomach like a spring ready to snap. It’s new and a bit scary, but he knows you’ll be here, knows you’ll protect him, so he lets himself fall.
Your lover goes rigid, silent, a moment passing where every muscle and flex of his limbs comes to a complete halt, before he’s moaning, drawn out and in higher pitch. Your eyebrows draw together in concentration, eyes crossing behind your lids as your own pleasure rains down on you, and the lower half of your face is drenched in your lover’s gushing climax. He’s squirting, and by the grace of the Gods is it succulent. It comes in waves, Astarion’s hips thrusting in time with each flood of his orgasm, and your mouth remains wide open to catch it all, guzzling, taking to him like a kitten to milk.
Astarion convulses atop of your face while you work him through, globs of tears sliding down his cheek, glowing under the slowly dying candlelight, and there’s a ringing in his elongated ears. He can feel his mouth moving, words rolling his tongue and testing syllables on his teeth, but his brain can’t quite register what he’s saying.
You certainly don’t understand him.
It takes a while for him to settle, the swirls and drags of your tongue now pulling the spawn into painful territory, and when Astarion full-on dry sobs at the feeling of your mouth, you pull away from him.
Your inhales are hefty, gasping and panting beneath him to regulate the breathing you so kindly cut off for him, your heart working overtime to accommodate, and your eyes open. Astarion’s body rises and falls with your deep lungfuls of air, his head angled down toward you in the perfect picture of ecstasy; a transcendental creature of delight and satisfaction. His eyes are misty, his waterline flushed a pretty pink beneath a new surge of unshed tears, but there’s a watery smile hanging from his lips; dopey and pointed. For a while, you don’t move, only massaging Astarion’s waist to ease his occasional spasm, and he’s thankful for it. Astarion has never felt anything so intense, so vigorous and…good.
He didn’t understand you at first, couldn't deduce why on earth you wanted to get to know him beyond the scope of bodily exploration, but at least then you could grant him the protection he needed, however confusing on his part. His mind, still deep within Cazador’s deeply inflicted hell of torture and transactional sex, had made him approach you in the first place, recognizing you as the impromptu leader of your ragtag group of weirdos, with all of his true weaknesses hidden behind a steel wall of falsehoods perfected after two centuries.
“It was natural. Instinctive.”
But, in this moment with you, as you sit up to carefully lay his body down beside you like he’ll splinter and burst, his arousal gleaming on the lower portion of your face, he infers that he, perhaps, wasn’t meant to understand you. He was only meant to feel, let you chip through his walls with your patience, let you blanket him with your understanding serenity, to separate him from Cazador’s self flagellating sack of exhausted bones, and merely be.
Be with you.
“Are you alright, Astarion?” You hum, observing his face, watching him for any signs of being off in any way.
Finally, the heavy weight on his tongue lifts, and he releases a low scoff, free of malice, “Simply amazing.”
His voice is on par with stone gravel, scratchy and sore, and it makes you reach across him, heedful of jostling him too much, to grab a cup of water off the nightstand. It’s lukewarm when you tilt it against Astarion’s lips, but it helps soothe him immensely, and he clears his throat.
“Do you,” he begins, but there’s something nervous, timidly resigned, about his tone that you instantly pick up on, “do you…want me to-”
Your lips find his, and his question trails off into the roof of your mouth, Astarion moaning softly at the taste of himself on your tongue. His shoulders ease, unaware they drew forward in rigidity to begin with. The air around you starts to clear, calm affection radiating from your heated skin and seeping into Astarion’s dead heart, and he swears upon every God he had no luxury to believe that your love may have the power to revive it.
“No,” your lips part with a wet, muted smack. “No, I don’t want you to.”
“But,” Astarion’s words stumble, finding it hard to gather himself when your lips find his jawline, “you didn’t get to-”
“I did,” you cut him off again, smooching the side of his neck and tucking a damp curl behind his ear, “because you did.” And it’s true, “You feeling good makes me feel good, my love. Don’t worry about me.”
The vampire makes a face.
How can Astarion not when you always put him first?
His safety, his hunger, and now his pleasure, you always make sure he’s attended to first, placing yourself on the backburner more often than not, and while it’s beyond sweet, he’s starting to feel a bit guilty; guilty that he’s not giving you more than you deserve. Admittedly, he doesn’t know what he’s doing, how to have a real relationship far beyond sexual exchange, and it shows.
But, he’s learning, and you never rush him.
Astarion holds one of your hands in his, fingers intertwining around the other’s like straw woven through a basket, a perfect interlace of devotion and comfort; destined.
“I want,” the man’s eyes find yours, his words catching the base of his throat at the warm sentiment on your face whenever you look at him, “you to be happy…with me, with us.”
Your palm raises to cup his cheek, the vampire nuzzling into it almost instantly with a quiet sigh, and brings your forehead to press against his, the smile on your lips wobbling in affection. The man in front of you, scarlet eyes exhausted and abused but so in love and willing to trust you, allowing you to douse the flames of his own personal hell and pull him up and out means more to you than Astarion will ever understand.
Or, Astarion’s lips curl into a sheepish grin, his eyes wrinkling in the corners, maybe he does understand you. In his own way.
He’ll never forget the moment he first felt the sun after escaping the naultaloid, the feeling forgotten after having spent so many decades in the dark, traversing the shadows and hugging close to walls like diseased vermin, and how warm it was, almost as if the beams burned brighter just for him to ease the undead chill rooted within his bones; a reunion gift.
He supposes that being with you feels the same way; the sun embracing his skin to drive away the cold, constant and unfaltering. Just…you, your love that leaves him comfortable and unsuspecting, and Astarion half expects to wake up; to find himself still stuck in Cazador’s dungeon so broken he resorted to hallucinations for some semblance of comfort. But the pair of eyes in front of him, twinkling in passion as they surveyed him, are too expressive to be an illusion. Everything feels too real, too raw, to be a dream.
“You have no idea how happy you make me, Astarion,” and your declaration is conclusive, spoken as if the only truth you know.
For once, he completely believes you.
His psych doesn’t wrestle with his irrational belief that you’re being untrue, that he isn’t enough for you, because you choose him. Even after he deceived you, even after all of the emotional back and forth because he is so fearful, so damaged, you still choose him despite his faults and imperfections. He sees you when he closes his eyes, you worry his days when you’re away from him, and sometimes he just wants to crack open his ribcage to make space for you. There’s no need for his heart; it doesn't fucking work, blood no longer flows through his veins yet it’s the very thing he depends on to satiate this damned bestial hunger, so it has no place inside of him where you should be.
But, you’re here. Holding him, loving him and offering your devotion as it thrums between your fingers, sculpting the shape of your lungs around the phonetics of his name like you need him to live, and it makes Astarion want to cry.
So, he does.
Your face doesn’t show panic, but you do bring him closer, cradling the back of his head as he snuggles into your neck and allows his tears to fall. His back is being rubbed in soothing circles, your touch gentle but solid, and Astarion thinks that right here and right now…
Everything will be okay.

Alastor x Reader : The Puppeteer ( Part 1 )
Tumblr media
Summary : Alastor travels to a macabre theater, where the Puppeteer, a mysterious and captivating woman, manipulates puppets in a mixture of beauty and terror. As Alastor observes this horror show with a satisfied smile, he is both fascinated and repulsed by the performance of ( y/n ), the Puppeteer, who seems to take pleasure in playing with the suffering of others. The contrast between the art of the puppeteer and the cruelty of her puppets intrigues Alastor, promising a story where the line between beauty and monstrosity is blurred.
------------------------------------------------------
The dark streets of Hell were restless that night.
Whispers spread like wildfire, evoking a mysterious and disturbing spectacle in a secluded theater by the edge of a sticky lake of blood. Damned souls, eager for macabre sensations, flocked in droves, their clumsy silhouettes pressing together in the oppressive darkness. The air was heavy with an almost electric tension, mingled with a familiar metallic scent that permeated all of Hell.
Amid this creeping chaos, one figure stood out : Alastor, dressed in his immaculate attire, advanced with an almost otherworldly elegance. His long cane tapped the ground softly in a steady rhythm, a sinister tick-tock amid the commotion. His wide, fixed smile illuminated his face with a chilling light, turning the dancing shadows around him into grotesque puppets.
He wasn’t there simply for entertainment, oh no. It wasn’t the rumor of a morbid spectacle that had drawn him here. It was a name, an idea : the Puppeteer. That very word had echoed through Hell’s underbelly, whispered by trembling lips, murmured by extinguished voices. And that word had awakened something deeply buried within him.
Alastor paused for a moment under the flickering glow of a twisted lamppost. His gloved fingers brushed the handle of his cane, and an even wider grin spread across his face.
- Ah ! What delightful nostalgia !
His voice, soft and theatrical, broke the relative silence.
- I still remember that fascinating story... told on one of my favorite shows. The case of the Puppeteer ! What terror I sowed among my dear listeners ! What a delight !
He burst into laughter, a sound that was anything but human. It was a laugh filled with malice, making the wandering souls who dared to pass too close tremble. They quickly moved aside, their unsteady steps betraying an instinctive fear.
Alastor continued on his way, lost in his memories. The story of the Puppeteer was one of his favorites. Oh, how he had adored it! During his lifetime, he had discovered that horrifying case : a series of murders so ingeniously macabre that he couldn’t resist sharing it on the air. An unknown, elusive individual who used human parts to craft puppets or grotesquely realistic prosthetics, sold in the shadows.
He still remembered the bloody details he had recounted to his captivated listeners. His descriptions had been so vivid that he’d heard rumors of some people vomiting as they listened. He’d laughed about that, too. What satisfaction it had brought him !
But it wasn’t just the horror that had fascinated him. No, it was the intelligence, the precision, the cold genius behind those acts. The morbid artist who had conceived such works deserved his respect. At the time, he had wondered who could be bold enough, mad enough, to accomplish such a thing. And now, here in Hell, he might finally have his answer.
He arrived near the theater, a decrepit building whose walls seemed to ooze a strange black substance. The place exuded a menacing, almost living aura. Alastor’s smile widened further, if such a thing were possible.
- Oh, my dear friends, what a delightful evening this promises to be ! Let us see what this 'Puppeteer' has to offer.
His chilling laughter echoed one last time before he pushed open the creaking doors of the hall. The theater unfolded before Alastor like a forgotten mausoleum, steeped in the acrid scent of dust, mildew, and… something else. A metallic tang, almost sweet, reminiscent of dried blood. Alastor inhaled deeply, as though savoring the bouquet of a fine wine, his ever-present grin etched across his lips.
The lighting was dim, and the few chandeliers suspended from the ceiling cast trembling shadows, bringing the cracked walls’ textures to life. The hall was full, yet a stifling silence hung in the air, as if even the damned souls dared not speak.
He selected a seat in the center—not by chance, but to ensure he missed nothing. Resting his cane against his knee, he crossed his legs with casual elegance, waiting for the performance to begin.
A sudden noise shattered the silence: a sharp, metallic creak from backstage. Then, slowly, a pallid light illuminated the stage, revealing a female silhouette.
The Puppeteer.
She stood straight and motionless, draped in a dark gown seemingly woven from shadows and crimson stains. Her hair rippled slightly, as if stirred by an absent breeze. Her eyes glinted in the dim light, immediately capturing everyone’s attention.
- Ladies and gentlemen… lost souls and wandering hearts, welcome to my humble theater.
Her voice, velvety and soft, resonated in the oppressive silence of the room. She paused, her eyes sweeping over the audience with calculated slowness, as though weighing each individual, each damned soul present.
- Tonight, I invite you on a journey… not to a realm of dreams, no, but to a kingdom where beauty flirts with horror, where every string I pull unveils a truth you might prefer to ignore.
Her smile, subtle yet captivating, seemed to illuminate her face with an almost supernatural glow. She extended a gloved hand toward the audience, inviting them to plunge into the abyss she was about to unveil.
- I am ( y/n ), and here, my creations dance for you. Not out of mere whimsy, but because they must. Every gesture, every movement… every silent sigh contains a story.
Her voice dropped lower, almost to a whisper, yet each word cut through the air like a finely honed blade.
- Tales of love and betrayal, of life and death. Fragments of forgotten humanity, transformed into eternal art. Tonight, my dear guests, I offer you a unique performance, a vision… of the sublime.
She paused, letting her gaze linger on the faces in the audience. Then she added, with an enigmatic smile hiding countless secrets:
- But beware : some threads, once pulled, reveal far more than you anticipated. And here, what breaks… stays broken.
( y/n ) bowed slightly, her movements unnervingly fluid. Raising one gloved hand, the stage lights flickered before plunging into complete darkness. An absolute void enveloped the room, sending shivers and nervous murmurs rippling through the audience. Then, gradually, a pale halo reappeared, illuminating a single puppet suspended at the center of the stage.
The puppet was a masterpiece of terror. Its face, waxen and deathly pale, seemed sculpted from candlelight, but its eyes—large and shining—were too alive to be artificial. Its delicate hands bore impeccably maintained nails, and its dark costume was finely embroidered, marred here and there with crimson stains.
With fluid movements, ( y/n )’s fingers danced over invisible strings, and the puppet came to life. It wavered at first, like a clumsy marionette, before straightening, its movements growing increasingly graceful.
A melody arose : a discordant organ tune interwoven with creaks and distant whispers. The puppet began to dance, spinning slowly, its arms rising and falling with sinister elegance. Each motion was imbued with a silent agony, as though it were aware of its macabre existence.
The audience watched, transfixed. A few murmurs of admiration broke the silence, but Alastor remained impassive, his glowing red eyes scrutinizing every detail.
As the first puppet, clad in black, continued its solitary dance, the light narrowed to a pale beam, casting the stage in semi-darkness. An oppressive silence followed until a chilling creak echoed from above the audience.
From the shadows descended a second puppet. Unlike the first, this one appeared almost human: its waxy beige skin, glassy green eyes, and pristine white dress suggested a fragile purity. Yet its movements, though graceful, were slightly jerky, as if struggling against its unseen strings.
The music resumed, a haunting, discordant string melody. The first puppet froze, turning its head slowly toward the newcomer. Its mechanical movements synchronized with a sinister creaking, as though every motion defied its wooden frame.
Tension mounted as the two puppets began to interact. The larger, darker figure dragged a long, gleaming blade across the floor with a piercing scrape. The smaller, more delicate one seemed to tremble, its motions pleading, hands clasped in a silent entreaty.
The performance grew more horrific as the narrative unfolded. The dark puppet toyed with its prey, forcing it to flee across a stage whose confines closed in like a cage.
Suddenly, one of the secondary puppets collapsed, shattered. From its broken torso oozed a dark red liquid, pooling slowly on the stage. The metallic scent thickened in the air.
The smaller puppet in white was finally cornered by the dark figure. The blade was raised, and in a flash of crimson light, it tore through the pristine fabric. Beneath, the puppet revealed "skin" crafted from stitched-together scraps of flesh.
The audience sat paralyzed, hypnotized by the unfolding horror. Every unmoving puppet on stage seemed to observe the scene, as if awaiting its turn.
As the light dimmed further, ( y/n ) reappeared, standing in a spotlight. Her voice, soft and alluring, pierced the frozen silence:
- Stories do not emerge from nothing, my dear friends. They come to life through sacrifices… one piece at a time. Thank you for offering yours.
She spread her arms wide, and every puppet lifted its head in eerie unison. Their mouths snapped open with a sharp click, releasing a piercing wail, as if the souls within were unleashed in a tidal wave of anguish.
The light vanished abruptly, plunging the hall into darkness as whispers echoed from all directions. In the blackness, Alastor remained still, his grin stretching wider, almost unnaturally. He leaned forward slightly, his crimson eyes gleaming in the void.
- What an exquisite performance ! Such horror ! Such beauty ! ( y/n ), my dear… you have thoroughly captivated me.
The curtain had fallen, but the room buzzed with murmurs. The audience, demons from every corner of Hell, seemed torn between fascination and unease. Some marveled at ( y/n )’s audacious artistry; others debated the unsettling realism of the puppets.
Alastor, however, lingered in his seat, savoring the electric tension that still clung to the air. His grin, broader than ever, remained fixed. He reveled in this liminal state where fear and admiration intertwined, where minds were still ensnared by what they had witnessed.
When he finally rose, he struck the ground with his cane in a sharp gesture and headed toward the back of the hall, where a discreet door led backstage. On his way, he passed several spectators murmuring :
- Those puppets… they seemed so alive ! Do you think she’s using… real parts ?
- Don’t be ridiculous. It’s theater ! Just a staging trick. Nothing more.
- Nothing more ? Did you see the way they bled ? That wasn’t fake blood, I swear !
Alastor walked past them without a word, his smug smile betraying his amusement. He relished these rumors, the frightened speculations. ( y/n ) knew how to manipulate her audience, and that fascinated him deeply.
The backstage area was a dark labyrinth, lit by a few flickering lamps. Ropes hung from the ceiling, and unfinished puppet pieces lay scattered about, giving the place the air of a macabre workshop.
( y/n ) stood at the center of the main room, her hands still gloved in black. She was gently removing her stage mask, revealing a serene face. Her curly hair framed a calm, almost warm smile.
She hadn’t yet noticed Alastor, too absorbed in speaking with a nervous assistant who was gathering tools.
- Remember, every string matters. She said softly. One wrong move, and everything falls apart. The details, my dear—the details make all the difference.
The assistant nodded frantically before slipping away. Alastor chose that moment to announce his presence.
- My dear ( y/n ), what a performance ! A true symphony of terror and beauty ! I simply couldn’t resist coming to congratulate the mistress of this… magnificent monstrosity.
( y/n ) turned slowly. Her smile widened slightly when she saw the peculiar figure. She instantly recognized the legendary Alastor, the Radio Demon, whose reputation always preceded his appearance.
She inclined her head slightly, her gaze shining with a mix of curiosity and politeness.
- Well, I’m flattered to receive the praise of such a figure. You honor me, sir…?
- Alastor, of course. A pleasure to meet you. And you, ( y/n ), are an artist who knows how to captivate her audience… or rather… enchant them. Such precision ! Such exquisite horror !
( y/n ) chuckled softly, a melodious and measured sound, but her eyes studied him closely, as if gauging her interlocutor.
- Ah, you flatter me too much, Mr. Alastor. But tell me… Is it my art that fascinates you, or is it something else ? You have that look… like a man who already knows the end of the story.
- A story ? He said with a laugh. Perhaps, my dear. Or perhaps it’s your little secret that intrigues me. I recognize a fascinating soul when it stands before me.
( y/n ) raised an eyebrow, still smiling.
- Secrets, Mr. Alastor, are like puppets. They only dance for those who know how to pull the right strings.
Their exchange was both lighthearted and laden with subtext. ( y/n ), like any skilled psychopath, remained calm, charming, and entirely in control of her role. She was curious about what Alastor truly wanted but betrayed nothing.
Alastor, for his part, reveled in the game. He saw in her something unique—a darkness cleverly hidden beneath a flawless exterior—and he was determined to uncover more.
- Tell me, ( y/n )… would you be willing to discuss your art with me ? Such talent deserves to be… explored in depth.
( y/n ) pondered for a moment, then gave a slight bow.
- I would be delighted. After all, isn’t it an artist’s duty to share their vision ?
Alastor burst into laughter, a distorted, radio-like sound that echoed through the backstage. He leaned his cane against a table cluttered with strings and hooks, approaching ( y/n ) at an unhurried pace. His smile remained fixed, but his eyes glimmered with a strange light.
- My dear, your name rings in my mind like a familiar melody. Oh, but it’s not just your talent today that intrigues me. No, no, no ! There is… something more. A story I once told, a tale so delightfully macabre it chilled the blood of my listeners.
( y/n ) tilted her head slightly, her polite smile unwavering, though her gaze cut through Alastor like an invisible blade.
- Really ? What a fascinating coincidence. But I’m curious… what was this story that so captivated your audience ?
Alastor took another step forward, savoring each word as if it were a delectable dessert.
- Oh, I remember it perfectly. It was called The Case of the Puppeteer. A series of terrifying disappearances, bodies found—or rather, pieces of bodies. Transformed into puppets, sold as mere trinkets or displayed in sordid shop windows. Such a… creative work. So… delightfully morbid !
He leaned in slightly, his eyes locking onto hers with unsettling intensity.
- And I wonder… is it you, my dear ( y/n ) ? Are you the artist who made the living world shiver ?
( y/n ) remained still for a moment, her smile unbroken. Then, she clasped her hands in front of her, as though preparing a carefully measured response.
- Well, Mr. Alastor, you have quite the remarkable memory. Yes, I am the one you call the Puppeteer. I see my work managed to leave a lasting impression… even after death.
She began to walk slowly, her fingers brushing against the suspended puppets around them, as if caressing memories.
- But tell me… was my art truly recognized ? Or was I simply reduced to a morbid curiosity to satisfy the thirst for sensationalism ?
Alastor burst into laughter, a distorted sound that seemed to resonate throughout the room.
- Oh, my dear, your art was legendary ! Every word I spoke on the radio was laced with the admiration I held for your… ingenuity. Of course, the masses didn’t understand your brilliance. They saw only crimes where there was creation !
( y/n ) raised an eyebrow, her smile widening slightly, though her eyes remained cold and calculating.
- That’s all I ever wanted to hear. A true artist doesn’t seek approval. They seek to leave a mark on the mind. I suppose, in a way, I achieved that.
She stopped in front of an unfinished puppet, her fingers gliding over one of its joints.
- I had reached the peak of my art. Every puppet was a perfect masterpiece. Every detail, every movement… I knew there would be nothing better. And, like any true artist, I realized it was time to bow out.
She turned her head toward Alastor, her smile now almost dreamy.
- So, I ended my life. Not out of despair, no. Out of satisfaction. I had nothing left to prove.
Alastor nodded, his smile stretching even wider.
- What a magnificent conclusion to a life of… masterpieces. You are a fascinating soul, ( y/n ). And now, here in Hell, you have the chance to continue your art without limits. Such delicious irony, isn’t it ?
( y/n ) laughed softly, her melodic laughter mingling with the almost electric crackle of Alastor’s.
- Yes… but tell me, Mr. Alastor. Why are you really here ? You’re not a man who does anything without reason.
Alastor responded with a slight shrug, his smile unchanged. He picked up his cane, twirling it nonchalantly between his fingers, and moved toward an old puppet hanging from a hook.
- Why am I here ? A charming question, my dear. Let’s just say I’m a curious man, drawn to sparks of ingenuity, much like a moth to a flame. And you…
He turned to her, his piercing gaze locking with hers.
- You are a most fascinating flame.
( y/n ) held his gaze for a moment, her smile immaculate, though her eyes analyzed every word, every gesture.
- Oh, such poetry, Mr. Alastor. But a flame burns, you know. Perhaps you should keep your distance before you’re consumed ?
Her tone was light and charming, but an undertone of warning lingered in her words.
Alastor erupted into his distinctive laughter, a booming sound that seemed to make the walls tremble.
- What a delightful warning! I shall not forget your talent for the… dramatic. But you see, my dear ( y/n ), fire does not frighten me. Quite the opposite. I find it illuminates things in the most… exquisite way.
He pivoted, slowly heading toward the exit of the backstage, but stopped just before disappearing behind the curtain.
- Oh, and about your art… know that it left a mark far beyond the minds of the living. Here as well, it has made an impression. Whether that serves as inspiration or a reminder of your peak, I’ll leave to you to decide.
( y/n ) raised an eyebrow slightly, her smile still fixed, though a flicker of intrigue passed through her eyes.
- Your flattery is almost dangerous, Mr. Alastor. You have a rare talent : walking the line between admiration and provocation.
Alastor gave a slight bow, his smile stretching impossibly wider.
- A talent I hope will entertain you as much as it amuses me. On that note, my dear, I leave you to your puppets. We shall cross paths again, I’m certain.
He stepped through the curtain, leaving behind the echo of his distinctive laughter and the lingering shadow of his electric presence. ( y/n ) remained still for a moment, her delicate hands brushing against the strings of a puppet. A subtle smile played on her lips as she stared at the spot where Alastor had disappeared.
- An intriguing man… dangerous, but intriguing.
She turned back to her creations, her fingers tightening slightly on the strings.
- One more thread in the web, perhaps… or one to cut. We shall see.
The murmurs of the audience still echoed in the theater, fascinated or horrified by the spectacle they had witnessed. But backstage, a subtler game had begun.
Alastor and ( y/n ), two powerful souls, had crossed paths for the first time. And though their true intentions remained shrouded, one thing was certain: a macabre dance had just begun.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this chapter. I would like to apologize for this long absence – almost a year without news. But know that the story of Fragile Link is not over, and I intend to pick it up again. However, I wanted to share this new adventure with you, and I am slowly resuming writing. I hope you enjoyed this beginning and that you will be there for the rest. See you soon !

American Woman (Thomas Shelby x American OC) Ch. 59: Look Inside
Tumblr media
Masterlist: https://www.tumblr.com/sl-newsie/739551758747090944/american-woman-thomas-shelby-x-american-oc?source=share
The journey home is a quiet and steady one. The further we sail from England the lighter the weight on my heart becomes. Liam helps to district me with card games. By the time we reach America the sight of New York harbor fills my tired soul with joy. Never did I think I’d be so glad to come home.
Over the next few months things fall back into place. Moeder, vader, and oma were relieved when I told them I’ll be working in America. Polly, Finn, and Ada keep in touch with letters. Polly writes that Thomas never visits. Lizzie’s frantically trying to talk to him but he doesn’t want to. Arthur and Linda have built a life for themselves. Finn keeps to himself. Their kind words offer comfort but nothing can patch up what’s already happened.
Bonnie also keeps his promise. A letter arrives every week, talking all about his adventures with his father and the Peaky Blinders. In return I write him letters about the different customers I encounter. Sometimes I meet with people in vader’s pub. Other times I give them the courtesy of meeting in their own settlements. But Bonnie always ignores talk of business and always asks to make sure I’m doing okay. I write that I am… I think.
“Verena! Dochter! Please come help me with these crates!”
“Coming, moeder!” I call from my room.
“Auntie! Tante!” Eoin’s youngest daughter Cecilia giggles. “Will you play with me?”
Since I came back it’s been my job to help entertain Eoin’s kids. It’s a perfect way to let my heart heal, even though I do admit that I wish I was taking care of Charlie again. I wonder how Lizzie’s doing with her pregnancy-
“Verena! Phone for you!” Oma’s voice echos from downstairs. “Someone named Arthur?”
Oh thank God. If it was Thomas I would completely ignore this. My sweet oma smiles at me as I pitter-patter down the stairs, unaware of my anxious thoughts. What on Earth would Arthur be calling about? If there’s something wrong over there shouldn’t they call Ada in Boston?
“Hello?” I ask uneasily into the phone.
“Hello? Verena? It’s Arthur.”
“Greetings, Arthur. Is there something wrong?”
On the other end I hear him chuckle. “You could say that. Verena, get over here before Tommy kills himself. I’m getting him back to work but he needs you here too.”
He wants me to… What?
Arthur listens to my dead silence and keeps talking. “Please? He’s turned into a fucking Communist!”
Turned into one, or fucking one? First Grace, then the Russian, then Lizzie. Now a Commie? I guess two children aren’t enough. Retirement isn’t possible for Thomas Shelby. He’s moved on this long without me, even after I confessed. What can I go back to now? It's time that I take a look at myself and stop trying so hard.
“I’m sorry, Arthur. But there’s no way I can sail over right now. Give my best to Linda. Tot ziens.”
I hang up before he can answer. Before my healing wounds are ripped open again. In these last years of my young life I feel that I’ve learned the toughest lesson. Being mature, being too aware, comes at a cost. In the spam of your life you think too far ahead. Think about how to fix things you can’t control. Re-evaluate what could have been or what could be. Stress about doing your best to please anyone but yourself.
And Thomas Shelby will be the key stressor for the rest of my life.
General POV
He was fucked.
Thomas has really backed himself into a ditch now. He just couldn’t help himself.
Yes, he had fucked Lizzie. But he was not thinking of May as she had assumed.
Verena.
The only woman he’s ever tried to abstain from. It takes every fiber of willpower not to claim her heart. To pull her close and kiss her gentle lips.
Maybe he was addicted to sex, maybe he was just trying to feel some form of happiness. But one thing is certain. Verena satisfies everything in him.
When Thomas had first set eyes on her, the short, bright-eyed woman standing in the kitchen, he thought for sure she would be like any other broad. Annoyingly chatty, clingy, and skittery. Lord, was he wrong.
First Thomas thought he was only confused. Verena never used him for money like other women. Grace played his heart like a fiddle so he assumed his tenderness towards Verena’s gentle Christian spirit was the product of friendship. But once he was married… A part of him still felt empty.
That time at Arrow House, before she was called away at a time of poor inconvenience, he was so close. So close to asking her. He was torn on the matter. Should an innocent woman like her ever settle for a life with him? After all, he’d been so distrustful at the beginning of her employment.
But then she was pulled away. Time ate off his hope and he drowned himself with the empty love of whores. When Verena finally came back, Thomas assumed she’d forgotten about him. But no. She is here, still vibrant and caring as before. Charlie couldn’t have been more happy to see her and Thomas secretly shared his son’s joy to see the American woman return. When she caught him in the bath Thomas thought the reaction on her face was the most sexy yet adorable thing he’s ever seen. But aside from looks, Verena still has a certain aura about her. Disciplined yet kind. One that reminds him of his mother.
But he still hesitated. She really deserves so much better… Hell, Verena was almost caught in a vendetta because of him. She deserves a man far more better. Not someone as fucked up as he is. And then when Thomas saw Bonnie Gold being sweet on her he knew he could never truly forget the grip she has on his heart. If only she knew…
So instead he went back to Lizzie. He dug himself further into a pit of guilt, mending his pride by trying to forget. But the entire time Thomas could only think about how much he wished it was Verena. When Lizzie told him her joyful news, Thomas wanted to die of shame.
That look. That look on Verena’s face…
When he told her.
A look of pain and despair that felt like a slap to the face. It was all his fault. And yet she still held back. Maybe Verena doesn’t really love him as he’d hoped? Verena distributes her kindness to everyone. An angel amongst gangsters. Maybe he mistook her gestures to be exclusively for him?
But Thomas can’t go back now. Even if Verena held any love for him she certainly won’t now. Thomas will have to bite the bullet and let her go. He was selfish to think a sinful man like him could ever be blessed to have an innocent woman like her. In truth, Verena never owed anything to the Shelbys. Thomas owes her the best he can offer, which is a life without him. Perhaps her absence will help to hide the pain from his cold heart.
After all these years Verena still carries a smile for him… Even if it’s forced. There’s no other way for Thomas to describe his situation.
He is completely fucked.

with the new season of squid game coming out (and if you have watched it)
How would the skellies handle the games and how far would they make it?
Now that I watched season 2, I can answer! I'll only based this ask on season 1 though if some people didn't watch season 2 yet!
Undertale Sans - He would go to the end, but he's not very entertaining. Sans is really smart and has a stupid amount of luck. He doesn't do any effort. He kinda let everyone understand the game, then he copies and somehow wins every time. He doesn't really understand how so many people die, that was actually easy like hell?
Undertale Papyrus - He would go to the marbles. As soon as the guys asked him to invent a game, Papyrus gets lost in his own very complex rules and his opponent takes advantage of that and steals all of his marbles. Too much puzzles for the puzzle master.
Underswap Sans - He would die during the game with the cookies. Blue has no patience whatsoever and might have break the cookie in half from pure rage and got shot. He chose the umbrella anyway and he has no tongue to humidify the cookie so...
Underswap Papyrus - Red light, green light. As soon as someone dies in front of him, poor Honey faints from stress and he's pretty much done. He could have die in each and every of the games anyway lol. Honey doesn't do really good in a stressful situation.
Underfell Sans - He would probably die during the "special game", but also probably because he's the one who caused the big fight in the bedroom. Red doesn't like authority and he doesn't like people telling him what to do, so chances are he talked shit to another player way stronger than him and by the time he realizes it's actually not a good idea, it's too late.
Underfell Papyrus - He would go to the end. He's a soldier trained to ignore stressful situations and he's incredibly logical. He guesses most of the games and does his best to play like an average person to avoid drawing attention on him. He goes absolutely berserk on the last game and destroys his opponent in seconds. No one saw it coming.
Horrortale Sans - Red light, green light. Oak forgot what are the rules not ten seconds after the game started and tried to get away from the crowd. Oopsie.
Horrortale Papyrus - He would die on tug of war. Unfortunately, it's way too much effort for his back and his body gave up midway, making his team lose. He doesn't even have time to feel guilty :(
Swapfell Sans - He would go to the end if there's nothing to distract him. Nox's problem is his empathy. If one player has a really sad story that touches him, Nox will try to protect them and eventually sacrifice for them to win. He's too nice for these games.
Swapfell Papyrus - He would die playing hopscotch. Rus thinks all of this is a joke and he's not scared of anyone. So he picked number one to mock all of these idiots and show them the game is easy. He missed on the first glass square and died.
Fellswap Gold Sans - He wins, of course. Wine is that extremely dangerous guy from the games. He screamed green light during the first game, causing a lot of people to die, he walked on a guy cookie after he won the second game, he erased half of the players during the night, did tug of war mostly by himself and pushed everyone on the glass squares until there were only 3 players left lol. His kill score is so high he's hired as the next frontman and he's actually happy about the promotion.
Fellswap Gold Papyrus - He dies at red light, green light. Poor Coffee is shaking so much he's immediately triggering the motion captors. He's the first one to die actually :(

mildly insane to me that so many people are just now saying 'i dont usually go here but' 'i've never listened to rap before but this is funny' like...i dont think "if you've never been interested in rap before you're racist" is a good or even accurate broad generalization to make but the line is also. pretty thin

the thing about revisit of the fight in 1x5 is that Louis started it and Louis kept it going and Louis threatened to kill Lestat but it's kicked off because Lestat put his hands on Claudia. that's what tips Louis over the edge into physical violence.
and the other thing about that fight is that Louis was not going to leave Lestat. He's not focused on trying to get away or comfort Claudia, though he is enraged on her behalf. He is trying to hurt Lestat. He can't really hurt him but he doesn't know that yet. He wants to punish him for both what he did to Claudia and for Claudia leaving in the first place. honestly knowing Louis probably for some other stuff while he's at it. he's been punishing him for seven years. But I really don't think he was going to actually try and leave him. that's so fucked up. they're so fucked up.

if you had to smite from the earth either nixon or garfield who would you eliminate. history will continue unchanged except if you smite nixon all the nixon memes disappear and if you smite garfield the orange cat goes with him
I would sacrifice anything that is dear to me to scrub this animal from all the veins of culture that it has slithered into. I was frustrated with the Garfield comic strip from the twentieth of August, 2024.
Tumblr media
Jim Davis has given up trying to claw from the mud. He has drawn a cat looking at the reader and telling a wet joke. By making Garfield a mere static image to surround text, Davis has taken the work of his heart and lowered it to the level of the borders that surround a pop up window. My feelings on this topic eclipse and obliterate any other nuances to your question. If ever presented a shot at this king, I would take it.

I hate when something looks like it would be RIGHT up your alley and the cast is pretty stacked, but there's one person in said cast who is just. Genuinely a horrible human being.
#and then for the sake of. not giving that one person my time or attention or anything. I see no way beyond just not watching the thing#OBVIOUSLY the focus should be the people who were hurt by said horrible human being#that IS in fact the important consideration here#I guess this is more...really just the fact that it happens so often?#because there are COUNTLESS examples to draw from of this particular type of Horrible Behavior and similar variations of it#like the entertainment industry is just. SO bad.#and that makes it unsafe for the people WHO ARE LITERALLY JUST TRYING TO MAKE ART#(and tangentially makes it harder for other people to engage with that art or acknowledge the work those other Not-Horrible people#put in. like congratulations you did direct and lasting harm to others. which in and of itself is a point of condemnation--the MOST#IMPORTANT point of condemnation. and then ON TOP OF that. extraneously. to add insult to injury. you secondhand-ruined#the experience of other people partaking in the sharing of and engagement with art.)#'well mc13 you could just watch it anyway it doesn't have to be done through streaming'#maybe other people could do that but I personally cannot handle engaging with this at all. it would stress me out and sicken me to#the point where there wouldn't be anything good to come out of watching it. I PERSONALLY cannot make peace with that.#I have...a LOT of thoughts on the idea of 'separating art from artist' and maybe I'll scream about them someday. but I do recognize that#there IS some nuance to the discussion when it comes to like...idk. people who have been kicked out of a project and then replaced once#their behavior came to light. or artists who are dead and cannot gain any kind of benefit from people engaging with their work anymore.#and looking at things considering the severity of the behavior in question and whether it seems like reformative justice is possible#like I do think there are things to be talked about. I agree there can't be One Magic Answer For All Cases Ever.#but the fact of the matter is...the hard line for what's actually unacceptable is...virtually nonexistent. and that shouldn't be the case.#this is past MY hard line. which yes does make it inconvenient in the sense of 'I cannot engage with a thing that sounds interesting' but#mostly I am just reminded over and over again of how insidious this industry is and how easily people get fucked up by it and it just...#it's so bleak. I don't want people to suffer when they're trying to make art. I don't want people to be unsafe. I remember when *I* was#experiencing those things and everyone around me was experiencing those things. I do not want ANYONE else to have to#go through that. EVER.#(<-this isn't like. COMPLETELY related to my previous post. I'm trying to organize my watchlist and I'm gonna. have to make some changes.)
