My rankings of Wrestlemania 40 matches (from somebody who knows very little about wrestling)

DAY 1

Rhea Ripley vs Becky Lynch - 4.5/5 stars

I'm going to be honest, I really didn't know what this match would hold because I wasn't a big fan of woman's wrestling, but I would like to publicly say that I was wrong. It was too standard to go any higher than I rated it, but for what it was, it was brilliant.

Six-Pack Tag Team Ladder Match - 4/5 stars

I love a good match gimmick, and ladder matches are pretty much always great. Now, I can acknowledge that, from an objective standpoint, the match could've been handled significantly better in a few regards. First, it felt like not all 12 participants really played a role in the match, and so I feel like less people were necessary in the match. Second, the Smackdown titles were grabbed really quickly. I get that A-Town Down Under are supposed to be douche heels, but still, the match could've benefited from a few more minutes without a title being claimed. Third, it felt like New Catch Republic were doing work and got nothing, which was sad. So, why is it so high? One reason: I love The Awesome Truth. R-Truth got so many fun spots in the match, and I was cheering him on all the way. Also, although I knocked on the match, it was a fun match regardless and still was full of cool spots.

Rey Mysterio and Andrade vs Santos Escobar and Dominik Mysterio - 2.5/5 stars

Look, I like the Mysterios. But we already watched this match last Wrestlemania, and making it a tag match didn't nearly change enough to justify seeing it again. Yes, it was enjoyable. Yes, I didn't hate it. Yes, the interference from the Eagles players was enjoyable. But we really didn't need this match.

Jey Uso vs Jimmy Uso - 3/5 stars

When we get a Bloodline story match, a certain expectation of quality is held by the crowd. This match was short, mostly just kicks, and didn't really hit that Bloodline mark. Frankly, I was disappointed. But, the Usos always deliver a fun performance, and I was entertained for the (albeit short) duration of the match. Honestly, when I read that the two of them were facing off, I envisioned a spot in my head where they both superkick each other at the same time (I have literally no clue if it's been done before, but I think that would be dope). Also, Lil Wayne didn't really add much to Jey's intro, and, despite a certain commentator's remarks, he is not "the greatest rapper of all time".

Jade Cargill, Bianca Belair, and Naomi vs Damage CTRL - 3.5/5 stars

When I say that I know little about wrestling, this is a match where that fact is wholeheartedly applicable. What I will say is that this match, along with pretty much every other match so far (minus the first one) suffer from their short length. Because of the longer main event, the matches leading up to it don't really have time to fully develop. Also, I feel like this match would be better if I knew Jade considering that the match was essentially a squash match for her. It was a fun viewing experience, if not a little confusing at times.

Sami Zayn vs Gunther - 4.75/5 stars

This was a classic underdog match. One commentator (I forget which) compared the match to Rocky IV, and I think that was a big inspiration for the match. Sami Zayn's comeback was brilliant and awe-inspiring. The match was great, but it lacked that big surprise to promote it to five stars.

The Rock and Roman Reigns vs Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins - 5/5 stars

If nothing else, this Wrestlemania had some of the best main events in history. The Rock's commands to the ref ("You count, you're fired.") really helped bring the long tag team match together, making it more like a no disqualification match than a standard tag team match. Cody and Seth both played great heroes, and Roman and Rock both played great villains. Unfortunately, the outcome was predictable in order to get Sunday's main event to be the match stipulation it was meant to be. But, it's a great match, and it really sets an excellent stage for the next main event.

DAY 2

Drew McIntyre vs Seth Rollins (plus Damian Priest vs Drew McIntyre) - 4/5 stars

Seth Rollins had an admirable showing after his beating the previous night, and although he lost, it was much closer than a lot of us (and Drew McIntyre) expected. Damian Priest's cash in was a favorite moment, especially considering McIntyre and CM Punk's feud and fight crescendoing into a cash in. Ultimately, you have to love a cash in.

The Street Profits and Bobby Lashley vs The Final Testament - 3.5/5 stars

The match was very standard in structure for a match, with heel domination, a flip, and the heroes defeating the villains in the end. It was fine, but it really felt like a match that solely existed for Bubba Ray Dudley to referee and ultimately assist in defeating The Final Testament. I like the Dudleys, but I wish that a bigger focus would be placed on the actual talent. Also, I'm not really sure why Snoop Dogg was involved with the commentary other than the advertisement. It just felt random. And all the marijuana jokes really took away from the match and weren't funny. Sorry, Snoop.

LA Knight vs AJ Styles - 4.25/5 stars

LA Knight's rise to popularity is meteoric, and his first Wrestlemania match didn't disappoint. I do wish that the match was fleshed out more, but LA Knight beat AJ Styles. Who can argue with results? Both wrestlers had a good showing, and the crowd was invested throughout. It's not going to be a classic, but it was very enjoyable for what it was. Also, why was LA Knight a sellout to Slim Jim at the beginning? It just seemed odd for the egotistical narcissistic personality of LA Knight to bow down to the corporate masters of beef jerky.

Logan Paul vs Kevin Owens vs Randy Orton - 4/5 stars

I'm about to say something that may be seen as controversial. I like Logan Paul. I think that the man plays a great heel, and that he's been playing a great heel since he made his YouTube channel all those years ago. Frankly, though, I'm not really a Kevin Owens fan. He's just not really original in any aspect. Pretty much all of his moves are just moves from other wrestlers. And, although I like Randy Orton, he's getting older, and I'm sorry, but I don't think he should really have a US Championship run at this point in his career. Speed's role in the match was entertaining, and Logan Paul really sold his character well, but I just wasn't fully invested in the participants, so it fell on deaf ears.

Bayley vs Iyo Sky - 3/5 stars

This match probably deserved more stars than what I've given it. But, by this point in the show, I was just falling asleep. I don't know if it was the match's fault or my own poor sleep schedule coming back to haunt me, but it just failed to engage me fully. I'm giving it 3 stars because the crowd seemed engaged and what little wrestling I could stomach was good.

Cody Rhodes vs Roman Reigns - 10/5 stars

I'm not joking with that review. This is genuinely, in my uninformed opinion, the greatest match ever wrestled. The pacing, the story, the interference from other wrestlers, and everything else was perfect or nearly perfect. If you didn't watch Wrestlemania and somehow stumbled upon my 0 follower Tumblr account, go watch this match now. Don't search anything else. Don't even finish this review. You'll lose it, I promise. Now, for those of us that have seen it, my only real note was that I wished Dean Ambrose would've joined Seth Rollins in his Shield entrance, but he's a AEW guy, so I get why that wouldn't happen. Other than that, though, the match is perfect.

OVERALL - 4.75/5 stars

This Wrestlemania felt like it suffered from success with its main events in the sense that, because they were so long with so much star power, every other match was overshadowed heavily and many matches felt far too short. But, for being the first Wrestlemania of the "Paul Levesque era" (Stephanie McMahon said that), it was exceptional, and it really started the show and sent the viewer home every night with a bang. It gets so many kudos for those main events, even if other matches weren't quite up to snuff. Overall, I think I speak for WWE fans everywhere when I say that I'm excited for more Triple H writing.

Zxl Review

Well I finally got through yet another YuGiOh on this YGO Hell Challenge journey, so I want to quickly sum up my experience before moving on to the final YuGiOh in this challenge. Again, reminding you that this challenge will NOT be including V//r//ains, which means we have saved the best for last. Well, let’s do this...

Also, even though my past liveblogs have been primarily documented here on Tumblr, I opted to express my uncensored opinions on my private Twitter salt account for this show in particular mainly out of respect for those who followed me and didn’t want to see me salt so intensely every single day. For those who enjoy this show, I didn’t wanna be that annoying to deal with. For those who did get to see me salt, however, well... 

You know what’s up.

TL;DR: Zxl is not a show that I have ever preferred. I can understand why others might enjoy this show, however I personally can’t find or take away anything that is genuinely deeply substantial or compelling from it. I feel like this show lives off of being superficially loud and boisterous, dragging generic and vague themes out to give the illusion that they carry any real value. Of course that falls extremely flat when those themes are never explored or developed seriously and meaningfully, only being used for the hollow and unimpressive shock-value they can offer on a surface level.

Season 1 (Episodes 1 - 73)

Like I said, I don’t want to make this longer than I already feel it is; I just want to give my overall thoughts. Zxl has a tendency to introduce too many characters, too many high stakes, too many insignificant side stories (which are also meaningless), etc. at such a grueling pace. This first half of the show is plagued with inconsequential filler episodes AND antagonists (and “rivals”) with incredibly melodramatic roles... it’s just... just... so unnecessary to create a genuinely interesting show. Every climax in this show (not just this season) relies on shock-value reveals that tend to contradict characters’ beliefs, logic, and personalities.

Presentation-wise, this show is overall decent as they don’t often have noticeably bad animation, on the contrary Zxl overall tends to remain consistently well-animated. The only problem stems from the gaudy, overly color-saturated designs of various characters and card/monster designs. Character-wise, there are few decent designs like IV and Akari. Everyone else though? This show is consistently.... not a sight for sore eyes, I’ll tell ya that.

The soundtrack design is.... *shrugs*. Not terrible, but also, often extremely boisterous, which I suppose is appropriate. But none of the soundtracks are memorable at all.

As for the main point I suppose I should have mentioned: Yuma & Astral’s relationship and development.... well... this season did a not too bad job at developing their relationship (but no one else’s much), at the expense of copying DM’s Yugi & the Pharaoh’s relationship in terms of concept and setup. However, if it leads to something more wholesome and impactful? Well, that’s to be argued....

Overall rating for this arc: 1.5/5

Season 2 (Episode 74 - 146)

It might be a bit unfair to not break down this season into a series of components, as I did for my 5D’s review, however this season decided it’s overarching plot and its filler were one and the same so *shrugs again*.

This is the part of Zxl that gets good, according to many fans. That’s terribly subjective, of course.

And I’m sure my opinion that this season of Zxl is the worst half is also terribly subjective. Long story short, if season 1 was marred with superficial plot-less messy inconsequential subpar writing, season 2 is that but somehow worse. You didn’t think it could be but it was. With another unfantastic element added to the mix: repetition. Endless repetition in duels, in character “deaths”, in “reveals” (which aren’t reveals if the audience already knows everything that’s being “revealed”), in backstories, in “consequences”, etc. There’s repetition everywhere. Oh and retcons. There are plenty.

This is the culmination of too many unlikable, insignificant, and expendable characters in one 70+episode span, which I didn’t think was possible. And none of it matters because the themes are so convoluted and jumbled up, the ending of this season (and the show) doesn’t actually lead up from the exploration of any of the attempts of surface-level themes presented, it leads into a cliffhanger-teaser for a sequel that is extremely unlikely to ever happen, and a rewrite of anything in this show that COULD have had some consequence. So yeah, in the end, nothing that ever happened in this show matter. None of the characters experienced a growth in persona or self-reflection. The only thing we get is basic themes that can be stated and moved on with like “we can all learn to get along” (and yet nothing that led up to this final “conclusion” ever actually formulated satisfyingly) that stem from no other foundation of any of the so-called values introduced in the show. It’s all very hollow. 

I guess lastly my conclusion is that none of these characters actually are different than who there were when they were first introduced. None. (”But Sai—” THEY DID NOT DEVELOP, THEY WERE SIMPLY WRITTEN SO INCONSISTENTLY AND/OR INCOHERENTLY THAT THEY DIDN’T EVEN HAVE A PERSONALITY TO BEGIN WITH. THEY WERE JUST TROPES FROM THE START.)

Oh and also, I almost forgot: Yuma & Astral have an impactful, wholesome relationship? IMO, no. If anything, I saw so many red flags in it, in particular in this season of the show, in regards to it possibly even being a toxic relationship, but I don’t wanna get into the specifics of it and as I said this is subjective (tho as someone who has lived through some of these red flags, I’m not gonna be arguing with anyone in regards to this because lmao idc enough about them or about your opinion against this).

Lastly, I really despise the Barian designs. I’m happy for you if you liked they’re inflexible faces and gaudy.... appendages (?) but I’m different.

To be fair I dont think in any fanfic Ive ever written anything too explicit but now Im so conscious of other people’s viewpoints and being inclusive that it is a concern. Ultimately I write what I want to/need to but I am aware it might not be for all tastes hence always trying to follow ratings etc.

Ohh. I’m sorry if this worried you.. tbh this was very random and I wasn’t even thinking about fiction when I rb this. This one reminded me of a few times I went out with friends and colleagues and I just felt starkly asexual, lmao

About my tolerance regarding sex and explicitly in fiction, I’ll be honest with you…

There’s hardly anything I could say I wouldn’t read about. I just don’t feel ‘triggers’ or anything of the sort, no hard feelings when it gets to fiction and I value your will to be conscious of other viewpoints but its practically impossible to cater to all tastes like you said, so don’t worry about it much… there’s always someone out there who will feel offended and others who will fiercely love it.

As for myself, I’m very tolerant to sexual content in fiction, idk? I don’t seek it out particularly but its not a deal breaker either.

I know some asexual people are less tolerant, I usually just get a ‘meh’ feeling whenever those subjects are touched in much detail, idk some works do get nasty and bothersome because of much detail involving sexual practices so I just give up on them or put them aside when they bring me no joy but I gladly consume material with sex on it as long as I like some aspects of it. Also, I’m good at ignoring or glossing over things I don’t like in fiction… when I read explicit scenes with intercourse it does nothing to me and my eyes focuses on the sentences I loved such as regarding the feelings between the characters and subtle interactions instead of the physical/carnal aspects of it, and this makes it all worthy it.

Even so, some works might become overwhelmingly depressive or repulsive so I might put them aside even if I enjoyed an aspect of it or I might just skip through them and this happened recently to a series of fantasy books I tried to read which were actually really good but they were so overwhelmingly and unnecessarily dark and had an horrid oppressive atmosphere towards women an sex so I just felt no joy reading them? Its not like I was traumatized by its tone but it felt like a chore and I couldn’t care about it further and no character inspired me whatsoever that the world could change for the better, so I dropped them.

But its not like I’m judging it, I just feel weirded out to some things and I just imagine the kind of mind that takes upon themselves the chore to write a whole series of book which has nothing but suffering and misery in them, especially concerning women, lol. We already had this shit in history and still have in some places in the world so I kinda feel like its not interesting for me to read about it in a fictional setting, especially if I don’t feel like the writer is going to challenge the setting.

But I’m aware most people are much more sensitive… these things can be horrid for those who are more sensitive, and perhaps my own asexuality protects me from feeling it fully as I don’t even think of myself as a being capable of partaking in this (weird, I know), so I have problem even projecting.

But I did felt really strongly for the way women were oppressed absurdly and had their agency completely obliterated, so that sparked a sort of empathy or kinship in me which made progress in such book a chore…

You got my point and this just illustrates a bit my relationship to fiction and things that irk me since you were interested in my opinion… I have another example of fantasy book with lots of sex in it:

I read asoiaf even thought its full of sexual stuff but I don’t feel joy at these parts, yet the work is so good on other themes that I ignore it for the most part… but even so, recently I’ve read F&B and it was kinda overwhelming on the sexist aspect with myriads of female characters turned into child brides and raped and dying at their childbirth repeatedly it just got very tiresome and repetitive near the end, because there where almost no counterpoints to it, unlike in the main series where the situation is dire for women but we have characters challenging it more often and idk. F&B just lacked on that front.

So, this shows a bit my sensitivity towards sex is more related to sexism and the feeling that women are confined to their reproductive aspects: motherhood, childbearing, marriage, sensuality, etc.. I don’t have a problem with sexual intercourse per se as you can see, but that’s from my unique point of view and I know some asexuals are more repulsed towards it, but you asked my opinion…

So, if its consensual sex: its not my cup of tea but I don’t feel like its a deal breaker…

Just to give you a positive sex example: when I see an OTP of mine getting to the point of having sex I think its pretty sweet, like when Jon and Dany consummated their love on that boat… I was happy for them, for all that it means, the symbolism between the union of ice and fire and just two characters which I love dearly, finding happiness and comfort in each other. What’s not to love about it??

This is a rare stance I can say I saw a pair I ship get to that point xD

I love shipping as you know, but its more about the psychological aspects and potential for character development and even when I’m reading fanfic about my OTPs I enjoy more the angst and symbolism than the ‘hot’ parts which usually just makes me go ‘meh’ (again).

So this makes me say: when sex is the focus of works I could feel like I’m too asexual for this, even if it regards an OTP, it just doesn’t have a very exciting effect on me or I’m not explicitly interested in this part of a relationship, when so many other things caught my eye… sometimes subtle interactions and dialogue and and gentle approximation (touches, caresses, kissing, etc..) is so much more exciting for me to read about than the ‘thing’ itself, lol.

To sum it up: when its there just for p*rn or even worse, shock value it just makes me go ‘meh’ or ‘ugh’ or ‘uhh why am I even reading this?’

This reminds me of Vivi’s take on the ‘hiero gamos’, in this case I just say I might even enjoy the theme as long as the scenes involving sex are meaningful and passionate and the aspect I value the most about them are sublime and platonic instead of carnal but I’m aware the carnal aspects are very important for the characters and the audience so I also worry when I get to show my stories people will think they lack sexual content ^^  I get you.

Now that you know my feelings towards sex in fiction, to a broader sense I just wanted to say..

There’s no way to guess people’s sensitives but it doesn’t mean you need to walk on eggshells afraid to trigger people all the time, hell no! I’m all for freedom of creation. At least around me there are no metaphorical ‘eggshells’.

Everyone has their own set of opinions which makes them unique, not just me, I mean…  even so I will let my snowflake syndrome show but I’m quite peculiar if you could say, so I sort of grew a strong ‘carapace’ towards the world as I deal with people with completely different views and values on a daily basis which might make me have inflamed political opinions while at the same time, I’m very flexible and forgiving when it comes to fiction in general.

I don’t expect much of the population to be like this so I’m also self conscious when it gets to writing my own stuff because I know people can feel very strongly about it and you’ve seen the way fandom reacts to minor things and bash creators when they perceive flaws in their work… I’m just not a judgmental person, its not in my nature. I just ignore things in fiction if I don’t like and I became even more relaxed over time in regards to this all, lol I nearly reached a ‘nirvana’ as I don’t even feel strongly negative feelings in regard to this.

Snarky and bitter comments from time to time? Yes… but no hard feelings. RL needs my hatred, lol so I don’t have it to spare with fiction any longer.

Anyway, on an unrelated sub note… as you might have noticed, I don’t feel comfortable about current fandom trends and specially policing, and with reason as this gets very serious and quick with literally ‘wave chain reactions’ of hatred sparked apparently from nowhere. I hope people could create more freely instead of the political correct police and restraining of creativity we have now. It was good for a while and I’m all for diversity and change in status quo (for the better), but I think this has gone too far and I perceive a lot of rigidity in fiction right now due to fear of fandom backlash we have creators afraid to make their thing and afraid it isn’t ‘inclusive or progressive’ enough… so they bend themselves endlessly until fandom ‘approves’ them, but even so someone is bound to scream and say the work is offensive and the cycle of hatred is restarted.

I know this reply was like a huge egocentric monologue and I strained with non related issues at the end, but you asked my thought on this so I tried to convey it with detail.. including things related to the perception we have concerning fictional themes and I just kinda had to vent at some parts of it.

etc…. This doesn’t mean I forbid judgment from others or criticism or that I forbid people from harshly criticizing works of fiction, just that sometimes it gets more harmful than beneficial and scare people off, and I felt like saying that.

Anyway,,, just want to say nonetheless I find it very sweet and considerate that you are taking different opinions in mind while writing, but you don’t need to worry at least from my part, and I don’t think you ever got even close to being explicit in your writings so there’s absolutely nothing to worry about.

Headed (loosely) by two who joined back in the middle ages or earlier, one from each court, they got immortality, and have honestly lived long enough at this point and soaked up enough ambient magic that they are two thirds of the way to fae already. This would worry them, if they weren’t already beyond the point of caring about pretty much anything.

Maybe you made weapons, and does that make you as bad as a killer?

Magic addiction is totally a thing, and very hard to satisfy unless you were born naturally gifted.

Part IV- Now that we’ve decided to do this thing, let’s do some awesome prep work (my favorite part) and then FIGHT! (Red Army)

Strategy/ inspiring speech montage (best part),

Tim, Red, Emma, and some of her crew hang with the Gray Gang with more frequency.

Tim is a good big picture/big plan guy, but Red is where we really get strategy.

The breakdown goes like this: Tim: Here is a goal/ step that needs to be accomplished Spec: Here are some ways to do that and their cost/benefits. Red: Here is which one is most tactically sound, given out resources and position. GG/Em Folks: Here is what you need to do that, let's go!

Tim is able to recruit some folks from the Black Court, those who do not have very constricting contracts, or those that can leave, or those that find loopholes.

Somehow, the Ladies find out about the planned rebellion and the Gang base is attacked.

The base is attacked by fae soldiers and/or loyal bonded humans

Short scuffle where some folks including Tim fight as a diversion while others make an escape route and flee to an inbetween.

Tim gets stabbed.

Shoot! (Hey look, other allies, namely, Jo)

But hey, we have someone who can help!

Really? Say Red and Emma and Spec and any defectors and probably a bunch of GG folks as well.

Yeah, say a small group, now looking slightly sheepish, uh, their name is Jo.

Hey, Spec, can we stage the final battle yet? We’re asking you ‘cause Tim’s unconscious. 

I mean, we wanted to wait until May (or November?) Day? Because of magical significance? That’s not too far off at this point.

Okay, so we need to hold out just a bit longer.

Tim wakes up and he is maaaaad…

He actually seems just a wee bit crazy right now

Like, instead of being ruthless but clean, now he’s plans almost seem, sloppy.

“Okay, so we do this and this...” “Tim, we can’t do both of those things at once for some reason you should really know and may have actually pointed out to us at some point.” “Ah, so we can’t, well-”

He is TERRIFIED and FURIOUS, and that is not the mood you want your teenager general to be in.

This whole time, there have been continuous small strikes at any GG/ defector/ fae ally groups that are out in the open.

Like, any time they need to get food, or when trying to communicate between mortal and fae side groups

One of these missions is headed by some of the fae side operatives, and results in the destruction of a few select contracts, including Red's.

This is not helping anyone, but it is especially not helping Tim.

He feels trapped, like everything is closing in on him.

Hey, Tim, you good?

The other folks are genuinely a bit worried about him now, because this does not seem like him at all

Oops, we lose Tim.

Tim is part of a group attacked by adversaries.

He was probably not supposed to be part of this group because he is recOVERING FROM A STAB WOUND and cannot fight or defend against any members of the Black Court.

Honestly, though, this almost feels like relief, ‘cause some of these folks are definitely Whites and this is SOMETHING as opposed to however long he’s been cooped up doing nothing but planning.

Tim is not typically a man of action, but anticipation gets to even him.

Either just Tim gets taken while providing cover for the rest (look, it’s easy to sacrifice theoretical soldiers, but it’s much harder to abandon the friends in front of you), or the whole group gets taken ‘cause Tim tried to abandon them, or just Tim gets taken for the same reason. (Option one sounds more like Tim, but options two/three fit better with the devolution arc.)

Crap.

Okay, so this is pretty bad; who knows what the Black Lady's doing to him?

We (the readers) do. She's torturing him for information about this upcoming attack and how he has been resisting her commands.

We gotta do something! 

It'd be too risky to spring him, says someone, we'd probably just get captured as well.

Hey, Spectrum, when were we planning on staging this whole thing again? In just a few days, Spec says, uncharacteristically grim, He'll have to hold out until then.

This visibly pains Spec, they really like Tim, possibly a crush.

PRE-BATTLE MONTAGE BABEEY!

A reiteration of the basic plan.

People are running around, suiting up however they suit up, saying their "I love you"s however they do.

Big speech, collaborative from Rose Red, Spectrum, Lux and Umber, Maren and Mark, and Emma.

What are we fighting for today?

What we have lost, what has been taken from us.

The many who have not escaped as we did.

A better society in the future. 

This is not a rescue mission. They are not going in to save Tim, there are going in to break the system. Saving Tim is just one of the good results of this. As such, this is not a rescue speech, this is a revolutionary's speech.

Battle! 

Includes the fantastic line of “talk s hit, get hit!” by someone attacking a chant based spellcaster.

Culmination of the “Any’s Mech” sub-plot (may be a two pilot mech with Em as the other pilot)

Also includes Albus' redemption, where he does something sacrificial to help/protect Rose Red and by extension The People's Court. (The Rainbow Court? What court is Spec?) Possibilities include Albus refusing to fight when played, kneeling in submission before his opponent. That's all I got right now.

So what does this involve, actually?

This is Spec making a formal claim to the throne and showing they have the manpower to back it up.

They have to fight their way there.

They escalate from “Right to be The Chosen Heir to the Monochrome Court” to “Make Me King Right Now I’ll Fight You”

So they set up a three-way board, each side playing for itself, but also trying to play the other two off each other.

The Black and White Ladies have pieces of various shapes and talents, but they all wear the color of their court. Spectrum's side lives up to their name, it is a riot of color from all of those who have pledged themselves to them.

This might be a no-mercy match, or at least the Ladies might try and play it that way, knowing that whoever wins this game gets all the contracts.

Resolution of the Glass Mask sub-plot

Tim escapes wherever he is because he never gave his whole true name.

Before this though, I want him to have a confrontation with the Black Lady.

"Magic likes a story right? So which one is this, huh? They say there are only seven basic plots, so which one is this?"

He says it's "Slaying the Monster"

Tim sees this as his only chance to fight on the side of what he sees as justice, since by submitting to the mask, he gives up any identity he has, including the identity he “gave” to the Black Lady.

True, he becomes a kind of raging monster, but hey, it means he isn’t fighting for the “wrong” side.

This Ends TERRIBLY.

He takes a deep breath before putting on the mask

Red, Spec, and Emma are understandably freaked the heck out, that’s their friend in that thing, and he doesn’t do this kind of thing! What is happening, and can our dude be saved? 

Maybe? Currently, we know of two options: option one, and the better backed option, we try to break the mask, which will collapse this current iteration. This will probably kill our dude. Option two, which is mostly just wishful thinking, is an act of true love, and they don’t really have much there either.

They end up having to go with option one, saving the Faerie dimension from certain doom.

“it’s over we won” *monster slowly staggers up in the background* *comrades point and try to speak* “No, it’s over. We won. We’re done now, everybody go home” *a meteorite drops from the sky, killing the monster* “Will…” “That was not me” “But Will-” “That was nOT ME”

Will may or may not have residual cosmic powers

Probably collaborative shenanigans with Will’s maybe cosmic powers and Spec’s new legal ones.

Part V- So, how does one live after all this? (Epilogue)

Going home?

Welp, looks like my mom remembers me now. That’s nice I guess. She’s gonna kill me.

Welp, looks like my dad remembers me now. That sucks, I hate that guy.

I grew up in the nineteen thirties. Does my immortality still apply? If I leave the Faerie dimension do I die? I have no clue how life out there works anymore, and I have no living relatives I can contact for help.

I liked living here, do I have to leave?

Gray Gang to the rescue!

Umber and Lux are fae enough and served long enough to earn themselves actual small estates. They work with Mark and Maren and combine the property and modify it with Spec’s help so that people who need to can stay there.

Some of the people they had helped in the past actually grew up to be pretty successful, like doctor/ lawyer kind of successful. The Gray Gang gets into contact with them, and people who need it get human help (therapy, temporary living, working papers, etc.)

Effect on Faerie society

Specifically, what are our main characters doing?

Probably accomplished through a scene featuring some or all of them, talking about life.

Rose probably stays in Faerie as one of Spec’s most trusted knights, so she doesn’t have to worry about going back to her dad. She is of course welcome to stay with the Gerbers, but that could get dicey legally. She is still free to come and go from Faerie as she pleases, within reason.

A news report, or a scene from Rose’s dad’s perspective. She’s out getting groceries with Will and she sees him and just. Decks him. It’s great.

"Wiiiillllll," Rose whined, tugging on Will's sleeve like a needy two-year-old, "Willll, I neeeed iiiit."

She’s kind and thoughtful, always with her head in the clouds. Her feet were never on the ground, even on Earth. She thinks nothing of money, content with her own little worldly treasures – movies, books, her writing utensils (both pencil and laptop) – and so she spends it on those she comes to care for. She’s blunt, but never means to cause harm to anyone, and if she knows she’s hurt you, she’ll want to make it up to you. Don’t think of her as just some loony with her thoughts scattered far and wide, though, she’s quite smart and she’s teasing and full of mischief. Her clumsiness is quite a downfall and it’s why she was never as good at modeling as her sister, but she has a beauty about her that’s natural – not manmade by make-ups and perfumes. She is Heo Jieun, simple yet complicated.

i. somniate [to dream]

Late February brings a light in the form of two cherub-faced baby girls, both with full heads of hair and powerful lungs. Jieun and Jihye grow up side by side, never leaving one another for anything other than asked for personal space – and even then it’s rare. Their mother and father love them both and dote on them and they take them to beautiful cities, places most would only dream of going. Jieun develops a love of fantasy, things people can only describe on paper, with a pen, or typed on a computer while Jihye gets lost in the stars.

Together, they imagine whole scenarios and stories – of people they know, people they want to meet, people they know could never exist. Their parents let them have that, let them enjoy their time as children – playing and laughing, throwing the occasional tantrum when they don’t get their way. And they’re so in-sync, just as some twins are.

Their childhood is full of love, and laughter, and dreams never-ending.

ii. traümerei [daydreaming]

All dreams must end, however, and by the time they’re ten, their father has them in the limelight. They become their parents’ label’s first children models. First it’s school uniforms, then it’s pillows and pajamas. At some point, singing is added and they’re learning music. The cameras never stop, but neither does Jieun and Jihye’s love of fantasy. They still love their parents and do what their father and mother ask of them – after all, isn’t it a dream to appear on television and in magazines? Most little girls don’t get that.

At fifteen, their lives are already too much for them. They’re talked about constantly, they’re harassed for autographs, and pushed and shoved for attention. They never let go of each other’s hands, and they let their parents handle the media. Charges are filed, and they continue on.

Jieun is more adept at singing than modeling (even though she’d rather be writing), and so they’re split sometimes and Jieun will sing while Jihye watches her, cheering her on happily. But Jieun sees the sadness in Jihye’s eyes – everyone talks and what they say is harsh.

          (Not good enough, no talent, just use her face and nothing more.)

And Jieun holds her sister at night when she cries and cries, the sun rising up on them and then they’re at it again. Jieun copes by writing her stories, sometimes getting them published – sometimes her stories are just for her and her sister.

Jieun doesn’t allow them to use her name on the soundtracks ever – she always signs Jihye’s name then. She gives her sister the credit for her voice, and she lets her sister be praised at galas and parties their parents take them to. Jieun’s father isn’t happy, but he doesn’t press the issue after Jieun threatens to stop singing altogether.

Eighteen comes and both sisters decide to travel together, with their parents’ permission, and they head to an unpronounceable place and get lost in the culture and the city for two weeks. They experience a life they’d only dreamed of – total freedom. They love their parents, but they can’t say no to them. Jieun can’t anyways, and Jihye doesn’t leave her sister ever.

When they return, they go back to their modeling and singing, keeping their parents’ happy, but always dreaming together. Their getaways become annual, and then it’s twice a year they disappear for a few weeks at a time. Always, always, together.

iii. oneirodynia [nightmare]

Just like dreams, a sense of ‘always’ and ‘togetherness’ has to draw to a close.

It starts slowly – Jihye unable to keep up with photo shoots, unable to rest. She’s not eating right and weight drops right off of her. Everyone thinks it’s depression, but they don’t see that she’s trying. Jieun does. She knows her sister as well as she knows herself, and they go together to the doctor. Examination, after examination, nothing is found, but Jieun pushes – begging and pleading with them to make her sister better.

Two weeks after their twenty-fifth birthday, Jihye gets a call. Jieun eavesdrops, holds her sister’s hand as the doctors tell her there’s something wrong. Something inside of her, and neither of them can pronounce it and they don’t care to. Jihye is sick with a disease – one that should’ve been caught at birth, but wasn’t. They’re both scared.

With no cure and few treatments, Jihye’s on her deathbed at twenty-six, hooked up to machines to help her in breathing and eating. And Jieun mourns for her sister, lies in bed with her to keep her company. Together, in those last few days, they watch the news and Jieun offers Jihye the ideas of them leaving together on Avalon, sleeping for two hundred years together and waking to medical knowledge that could save her.

Jihye knows she won’t make it. But Jieun still could, so when Jieun slips out to get something to eat, Jihye records a message on her phone, and programs her personal android to pull her life support plug for her.

When Jieun returns, her sister is gone. She doesn’t fight it, she doesn’t ask for her sister to be brought back because he knows she suffered in the last few months. Jieun suffers most afterwards, no more singing, no more modeling. She doesn’t come out of her and her sister’s shared room unless it’s a necessity.

iv. oneirocosm [a dream place]

On the morning that should be Jieun and Jihye’s bi-annual trip, Jieun slips out of bed, gets dressed, and heads out. Recklessly, she hasn’t eaten much in days, and she’s weak, too tired to be behind the wheel of a car. She crashes just two miles from her parents’ mansion and is rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

A punctured lung and fractured face are easily fixed, though there are scars. Her parents want them fixed, but Jieun doesn’t. She opts to keep her scars, to let them heal naturally and if they’re still visible years later, then that will be a story to tell the people she loves. She wears them with pride, even when people no longer compliment her on her beauty.

Like this, two years slip by; Jieun copes without her sister, she stops modeling, and she doesn’t sing anymore because her sister isn’t around to take the credit and receive all the love she deserves. She presses her nose into her laptop and she writes – sometimes about her sister, sometimes about worlds upon worlds that people could only ever dream of. In them, her characters experience tragedy, but they get through it – they live, and are happy. There’s the occasional bittersweet ending – Jihye would like them, she was the more realistic of them. Jieun dedicates those to her sister.

Just weeks before Avalon is set to launch, Jieun convinces her parents to let her go. She knows she’s their only child now, but she has dreams to achieve, and her feet have never been planted firmly in one place – certainly not the ground. Her head is far above the clouds, wishing to touch the stars. Jihye would’ve wanted it.

They buy her a Platinum class ticket and spend the next few weeks with her, spending time together as a family, and setting up accounts for her for when she arrives on Homestead II.

And then, they say goodbye and ‘I love you’ for the last time as she exits the car.

v. euneirophrenia [peaceful state of mind following a pleasant dream]

There’s dreams, so many endless dreams, and none of them she remembers when she’s awoken. Bright lights that flicker are what greets her, but she exits her chamber, struggling to stand properly and nausea swimming in her stomach, head clouded from her slumber. Had two hundred years passed? No. They had not – she hears ‘malfunction’, but there’s nothing visibly wrong that she can see.

They’re up too early, and Jieun finds herself not minding it one bit. An adventure, and the perfect idea for another story.

BEFORE YOU START READING

Truthfully I’ve been putting off writing this because it’s been so long and updates have accumulated since I last wrote. It’s my fault for being lazy haha but I’m back now with a fresh update right off the press. A fair warning: I’m not sure how long this update is going to be but something is telling me that it’s going to be a mini essay. Grab some tea or something as you’ll probably need to sit and read (I mean, if you want to).

Shorter Days

My days at the hospital are shorter now that I’m in consolidation. It also helps that our appointments are always in the wee hours of the morning (okay not THAT early but it’s early for me…) Getting in early usually means getting out early. Blood work and ECGs (something used to monitor my heart) are only done on Mondays and Thursdays. Those days are a little longer but we still get out before rush hour. I now usually have the second half of the day to myself to do what I want to do (which is usually not much because I’m usually rather tired when I get back from the hospital). 

Medical Updates

That being said, this past Tuesday (my birthday) was the last day of my first consolidation phase. I now have 3 ish weeks off before I start my second cycle. I am eating my oral chemo pills during this time off but I do not have to go to the hospital to get chemo through my IV. I go to a clinic three times a week to get my line flushed (just so nothing bad gets into my picc line and infects it). My dressing also gets changed once a week. I’m doing pretty well consider it’s only my first phase. I am experiencing no major side effects which is great. I will talk about this in a subcategory but for now I can proudly say that although I’m more tired than usual, I have not experienced any side effects from the chemo. The only thing that has been a little tricky is my picc line. My skin developed a sudden reaction to the adhesive from the dressing that protects the site (where the pipe uhh, goes into my body LOL) from germs. I got rashes under the dressing as well as around it. I put some prescribed ointment whenever my dressing is changed underneath the dressing. The rashes around the dressing have subsided and the type of dressing has been changed. It’s still kind itchy underneath the dressing as there are still some remaining rashes but it’s nothing that I can’t handle. Fair warning: the picture is kinda gross.

My birthday

As some of you know, my birthday was this past Tuesday aka July 25th aka my last day of chemo for phase 1. Thank you to everyone who wished me a happy birthday! This birthday was a little weird for me. It’s something that I have to repeat to the nurses on the daily (actually literally everywhere in the hospital. It’s for safety reasons ofc) and when the day actually came I was like YUP WOW I’m 22 now. Anyways, I’m incredibly blessed with amazing family and friends. My parents bought me this BOMB NEW LAMP. I’m so stoked about this lamp, it might be the best thing that happened to my room.

this picture doesn’t do it any justice. It has 12 different dimming settings AND there are 5 different types of light. Natural light, cool light, warm light, idk what other light but there are 5 settings. It’s amazing ok?

A group of my close friends surprised me the Sunday before my birthday. They blew up 22 helium balloons as well as many regular ones and hid in my basement, scaring the living daylights out of me. I love them. (they bought me the kpop albums that I’ve been wanting from my favourite group). Did I say I love them? Well I’ll say it again. I love them.

I also received a package from the States from a friend that used to live in Canada. (If you’re reading this I hope it’s okay to post this picture!)

I may have shed a womanly tear or two. 

I received a touching card that also made me cry more than one womanly tear. Why are my friends so amazing? 

Lastly, two of my friends actually dropped by my house on my birthday to give me some cheese tarts from Uncle Tetsu. (Don’t be mad at me Uncle Tetsu cheesecake lovers but I think I like the tarts more.) (Also, Carmen and Tiff, if you’re reading this I hope it’s okay that I post this picture too HAHA)

I’m not sure what my hand is doing and I really need to stand straighter but THANKS GUYS! I love you so much! *sends heart eyes your way*

Imminent hair loss

It’s not really imminent, it’s already happening. I used to watch movies and stuff where someone had cancer. The sad parts are always when they run their hand through their hair and chunks of hair are tangled in their fingers. WELL THAT’S HAPPENING TO ME RIGHT NOW and even though I said I was ready in my previous blog post I am Not Ready (capital N and R for emphasis).  I fortunately don’t have any bald spots yet, it’s a even hair loss I guess but once it gets really patchy this hair will be gone from my head. Come on Renee, you can do it.

My future plans

Some of you have heard already but I am officially enrolled in an online course for September! I’m excited to get my schooling on again, even though it’s only one course this semester. My hope is that by January, I can take 4 courses or so and be a full time student again.

My days off

Now that I have three weeks off, I’m going to be pre-studying for the course that I’m taking. I’m worried that my brain has not been worked as much as it should’ve been during the past few months. I’ve also picked up bullet journalling/photo journalling again. The process is soothing and it allows me to be creative in my own way. 

this is my title page for the month of August. It’s the first time I’ve drawn something with pencil crayon (I find the medium really hard to work with LOL).

Someone suggested to me that I write a book/memoir about my experience with leukemia and the more I think about it, the more I’m considering doing it. Sometimes I narrate words in my head and it sounds kinda good LOL. Renee the author…I feel like my parents would be the only ones that would buy this book LOL

My wishes came true

I’m going to say it. I ate gon chow ngau ho for the first time since I got diagnosed. 

LOOK AT THIS BEAUTY. 

I also was able to go out for the first time in a really long time. I went to Unionville with my parents and we ate ice cream. Even though I’m mostly still house-ridden I’m glad for opportunities like this.

My mom said I need to change my smile immediately. 

Annoying insurance companies

My chemo pills are were covered by my mom’s insurance company. They’re really pricy and I was glad that they covered it UNTIL they told us that they will no longer cover it. Long story short, I just turned 22. That means I will not be covered anymore unless I am a full time student even though the reason why I need to be covered is the reason why I cannot be a full time student. It’s…frustrating. We’re still sorting it out.

Prayer Requests

Please pray for my parents as they have SO much on their plates right now. Pray that God will give them the wisdom and strength to make it through all of it.

Please pray that something will happen with the annoying insurance company. I feel so hopeless about the situation

Please pray that I will not cry if I lose all my hair HAHA

Please pray for me as I prepare to start studying again. I’ve never been the greatest student but I want to do well despite the fact that I’ll be studying/going through chemo at the same time. School kinda scares me.

THE MOUSE THAT ATE THE FOX Disney’s announcement Thursday that it’s buying most of movie goliath Fox for $52.4 billion in stock brings these once disparate franchises together, possibly for as-yet unplanned intergalactic dust-ups. Add the “Avatar” franchise to the blockbuster mix, and the company that launched Mickey Mouse will be an unavoidable presence at the box office and online if the deal goes through. The combined company will account for more than a third of theatrical revenues in the U.S. and Canada, an $11 billion business last year, not to mention a huge chunk of the global theater-going pie, according to Daniel Ives, chief strategy officer at market research firm GBH Insights. That would make the Disney juggernaut a more powerful theatrical force to be reckoned with than ever before. Online, Disney has announced plans to launch its own streaming service in 2019, after pulling titles like “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” and Disney’s “Moana” from Netflix’s streaming platform to move onto its own. After Fox’s deal to send its movies to HBO ends reportedly in 2022, its films will also move to the Disney streaming platforms. “Creating a direct-to-consumer relationship is vital to the future of our media businesses, and it’s our highest priority,” Disney CEO Bob Iger told investors in a Thursday conference call detailing the Fox deal. ONE BIG HAPPY DEATH STAR Those old enough to remember the blaring 20th Century Fox opening to the original “Star Wars” (Episode IV) may no longer have to search far, far, away to find the other titles. The original was made and distributed by Fox, but it was a quirk of the series. Episodes V, VI, I, II, and III were owned by Lucasfilm (bought by Disney in 2012) and distributed by Fox. You can only stream those first six movies endlessly if you buy them and register them through the not-terribly-popular UltraViolet system backed by several studios. (You can also rent them digitally.) “The Force Awakens” — Episode VII — is available to streaming subscribers, though only if you have Starz. The Force may finally put these titles in one place. Buying Fox will also give Disney a majority stake in streaming platform Hulu. The addition of Fox’s regional sports TV networks and National Geographic video programming in the deal could let the new service bundle hugely popular movie and TV franchises, local sports broadcast rights, and distribution platforms into one live online video empire. That would recreate online what the U.S. Supreme Court broke apart in the 1940s. That’s when the court forced Hollywood studios to divest ownership of theater chains to keep content producers from controlling every step along the way to the consumer. “This moves Disney from an afterthought in streaming to a legitimate contender,” Ives said. SCRAPPY REBELS At the same time, tech companies — particularly Netflix, Amazon, Facebook, Google, and Apple — are making big investments in video streaming. Hollywood-centered entertainment companies have struggled as people drop traditional TV packages, shifting the nexus of power in entertainment from the Hollywood Hills toward Silicon Valley and Seattle. That marketplace dynamic could help pave the way for regulators to clear the deal, aimed to close within the next 12 to 18 months. “These guys are up against Facebook and Google, not Warner Bros. and MGM,” said Mike Kelly, the former Weather Channel CEO who is now CEO of investment and advisory firm Kelly Newman Ventures. “If you look at it that way, I don’t think the government would have that big of an issue with it.” Iger said he anticipates a “significant amount of regulatory scrutiny both in the United States and internationally” because of the deal’s size, but he said authorities should quickly approve it because it makes sense for consumers. He said Disney’s current thinking is to split its streaming services into three different brands, such as a Disney-labeled family service that would fold in NatGeo, Marvel, Pixar and Lucasfilm; an ESPN-led sports service; and an adult-oriented service that would incorporate Hulu and some of Fox’s TV shows. Disney also aims to expand the global audience of its cast of characters as it pulls in Fox’s London-based pay-TV broadcaster Sky, which has a pan-European audience, and Mumbai-based Star India. OH, THAT LONELY WEB-SLINGER But there’s one part of the comic book world that will escape Disney’s sizable web: Spider-Man, whose rights Marvel partially farmed out to Sony. Although Sony and Disney cut a deal to include Spidey in Avengers tales starting with “Captain America: Civil War” last year, Sony continues to develop its own alternate reality with movies like the animated “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse” as well as spin-offs “Venom” and “Silver & Black” starting in 2018. Will It Go Through Without A Hitch? Variety reported that to Democrats have voiced concern about this massive merger as they feel it could potentially violate antitrust laws. “I’m concerned about the impact of this transaction on American consumers,” said Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), the ranking member of the Senate Judiciary antitrust committee. She also commented that this merger was “another industry-changing merger, which would have major implications in television, film, and media.” Klobuchar has reportedly asked Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) and Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), who chair the antitrust subcommittee and the Judiciary Committee, respectively, to schedule a hearing on the matter. Representative David Cicilline (D-R.I.) called for his committee, the House Judiciary’s antitrust subcommittee, to take a closer look at the deal as well. “Disney’s proposed purchase of 21st Century Fox threatens to put control of TV, movie, and news content into the hands of a single media giant,” he said. “If it’s approved,” he continued, “this merger could allow Disney to limit what consumers can watch and increase their cable bills. Disney will gain more than 300 channels, 22 regional sports networks, control over Hulu, and a significant portion of Roku.” Since Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm in 2012, the company has already emerged as a leading, monolithic force in American entertainment. While that can be exciting—it’s thrilling to see so many compelling characters and worlds rubbing shoulders with each other—it can also be stifling. It’s hard to compete in the genre movie sphere if you’re not the MCU or Star Wars, and if this merger goes through that problem could get much worse.

Equation for ICO’s Expected Funding Level

With an Excel file and industry market map for separating success from failure

I. Setting the Stage

We’re going ever deeper into the ICO space here at The Mission and it’s child publication, Humanizing Tech. What started 6 months ago on The Base Code Fund’s investment into Ethereum as well as various conversations with a few knowledgeable players in the industry, from hedge funds to new ICO practitioners to even some folks building a new exchange, it’s always been our goal to open-source the knowledge and tools that we use.

Today we continue that tradition with a simple, new tool for you to gain at least a little bit of knowledge from.

After doing a number of Google searches and research over the last month, we had yet to come across a simple market map that lists out how many ICOs are in each specific industry vertical. For example, 17 in the finance space, 10 in the protocol layer, 2 in file storage, 3 in crowdfunding, etc.

The goal is to get a sense for what areas are being overpopulated with ICOs and which areas haven’t been touched yet (a lot).

It seems almost like there are parallels between the early internet where you’d have a listicle of hundreds of websites until it got to be too much and search was invented. And then, of course Google + ads = mountains of cash.

So, we started looking at various lists and figured we’d get started with the Smith + Crown, since they are viewed widely as reputable and have already done some curation of their own. We extracted their list into Excel and started running an analysis on it, which is what follows.

II. ICO Funding Equation

From the data set we extracted there were a total of 200 recent ICOs (i.e., 2017-ish), both currently offering tokens and ones that had closed. I have a feeling Smith + Crown removed the scams and BS ICOs, which is why we don’t see a list of 800 total coins that I’ve read are currently being traded.

Out of these 200 ICOs, only 42 have raised anything meaningful (more than $200K). That means your probability of success if you do everything right technically, market yourself using a standard approach and have a decent team, is 1 in 5. That’s a 20% success rate.

To put this into perspective, a meaningful VC-backed Seed round, on average, is about $1M from PitchBook data. But the success rate, I can tell you from experience, takes much, much longer, requires much more tech and customer traction, and is far, far harder.

So, I’ll take a 1 in 5 probability of funding success any day of the week with far less up front work.

If you look at that graph of successful fundings above (in white), you’ll notice that it’s pretty much a straight line of revenue from $0 to $25M unless you are one of the Big 3 who raised approximately $230M, $150M, and $100M.

So that curve is what you often hear in the startup and VC industry. Everything follows a Power Law curve. That’s the picture above. A few massive winners, and then a bunch of smaller players.

For example, the bottom 42 companies raised $225M in total. That’s the same that the #1 company raised. Crazy, right? It’s also the same if you add #2 and #3 together. Again, about $250M.

So, the #1 company raised about $250M. The #2 and #3 companies together raised about $250M. And the rest of the group (#4 through #45) raised about $250M. Then everyone else raises zero.

So if you raise some type of money, you have a 3 in 45 (or 1 in 15) chance of hitting a home run or grand slam. Call it 5% probability. Still not bad compared to the standard startup / VC funding game.

That’s because of human behavior. We’re lemmings. Like 5-year olds playing soccer, everyone is running around chasing the same ball. It’s the same thing playing out in public company stocks.

The top 5 tech companies together have a $3 trillion market value (Apple, Amazon, Facebook, Microsoft, Alphabet). Took them decades to get there, but they did it. Compare that to less than $1B market value for these recent ICOs.

The Equation. So now to the fun part, if you’re interested in STEM. The power-law regression line that predicts the amount you’re going to raise on this curve.

The r-squared is about 0.5, which is pretty good because a perfect correlation would be 1 and no correlation would be 0. But, you can tell just by looking at the chart with your eyes that it’s the right fit. (By the way, do you know that this is considered Artificial Intelligence? Yah, kinda funny when you see it like this right? Not so scary.)

2E+09 is a shorthand for 2x10⁹ or 2 with 9 zeroes behind it

x^-2.369 is where you input where you think you are going to fall along that 1 through 45 company line. So enter a number, 1 or 2 or 3 etc. That part is up to you based on your confidence of an ICO.

The actual equation predicts a company could raise $2 billion if you follow the curve out up and to the left. As so:

Which means we haven’t seen nothin’ yet for that white line of reality. But it also means that it’s only going to be 1 company who does it. And that means it’s likely going to be a full stack coin, from protocol layer (think HTTP on the web), through transmission layer (think URLs on the web), to enterprise enablement layer (think Facebook’s platform for business ads) to consumer layer (think Snapchat itself).

A tool, raised to the power of a tool, raised to the power of a tool, raised to the power of a tool.

Don’t forget, Ethereum started life as an ICO but it’s also the underlying technology enabling all these other ICOs. Like the backbone of the internet itself that you can invest in directly.

It’s ICO was only $18M if memory serves, but its current market cap is $20B. That’s in only 3 years.

To put that liquid valuation into perspective, AirBnB (the 2nd most highly funded startup of all time behind Uber) is currently only valued at about $30B after a decade.

So an ICO is growing 3x faster than one of the best startups to ever do it for some really technical protocoly something or other that very few understand compared to freaking hotels.

We’re not just in the first inning, we’re still in the first at bat.

III. The Market Map

The next step in any type of analysis like this is to start to identify the types of projects that are successful and compare them to the types that are not. In doing some, we can begin to develop a gut feel for what has a higher probability of success and what doesn’t.

As we look through the 45 companies that have been successful in 2017, a few things become immediately clear:

Protocol stuff is raising the most money. That’s because it’s still early days and the big problems are about building out infrastructure. That’s why EOS (parallel processing and scalability around transaction speed) raised so much so quickly and put them in the #1 spot.

The next big area is platforms. The ole startup platform play. Today, if you’re not a platform, yer nuthin’. So, we’re going to see platforms for everything start to play out. And then, a platform for platforms. Oy. It’s going to get messy.

The last area we’re seeing is the emergence of consumer-based coins. Something directly related to everyday people. It’s very small, and emerging, but as we know from the rest of the tech industry, the consumer side always creates the most value. It’s not the OLED display maker who is gaining all the profits, but rather Apple with the fully integrated iPhone.

I have an idea for one in the consumer space that I think makes a whole ton of sense that we’ve seen play out time and time again. It all comes back to human emotion. In this case, ego. But we’ll wait and see if someone comes up with the idea, the right approach, and executes on it.

‘We will be torn apart’: the combat to save Silicon Valley’s oldest trailer park

The Buena Vista mobile home park in Palo Alto is a close-knit community. But can they withstand the march of developers who want to build plains for tech laborers?

Its not a big manor, Amanda Serrano answers of her ageing off-white trailer in patch 59 of the Buena Vista mobile home park in Silicon Valley. But I feel happy here. Its my own trailer.

Serrano, a 48 -year-old care assistant, reads the common in Palo Alto is the first place shes lived where she experiences comfortable living openly as a transgender wife, in connections with her lover Arturo Saucedo.

But life is about to become uncomfortable for Amanda, Arturo and 400 other low-income, primarily non-native-English-speaking local residents who summon Buena Vista home. They are facing expulsion from the 4.5 -acre plot, so its owners can sell it for development into luxury accommodations for young tech workers.

Its prime location on El Camino Real at the very heart of Silicon Valley, precisely miles from the headquarters of Facebook and Google, makes it could be worth as much as $55 m( APS3 6m ). But if the sale goes ahead, Amanda, Arturo and the rest of the community will be forced to leave not just Buena Vista but, for numerous, Palo Alto, or even the US.

The influx of young tech developers with large-hearted purses has sent hires across Silicon Valley into the stratosphere. The median monthly hire for a one-bedroom apartment in Palo Alto is $2,600( APS1, 725 ), the increased number of more than $1,000( APS6 63) over the past five years. According to US Census fleshes, more than 20 million people, or 6 % of the population, live in trailer park. In California alone, 393,000 households live in trailers.

The Buena Vista trailer park is concealed between a small shopping center and a gasoline station, and began life in the 1920 s as a rest stop for those travelling along the west coast between Los Angeles and San Francisco, a 40 -mile drive to the north. Occupants offer between $700( APS4 64) and $1,000( APS6 63) a month in rent. Room on neighbouring streets are selling for well in excess of$ 1m( APS6 63,000 ).

Amanda, who earns just over the minimum wage helping local, elderly people in their homes, knows that she and Arturo, who works as a housekeeper in a neighbourhood inn, wont is to find anywhere they can yield nearby. Across the street from Buena Vista, a 700 sq ft one-bed accommodation in a new development is being marketed for $2,895 a few months. How would I ever be able to pay that? she expects, as rends well up.

Its not just the money. Amanda has obligated friends in Buena Vista, and reads she feels tighten among her neighbours even if her minuscule Coachman trailer is rigged with CCTV cameras that play a constant live feed upon one of the two monstrou TVs above the bed.

These people accept me and I get along with everybody, she announces, as her dogs, Princess and Ruby, a poodle-bichon and a corgi-chihuahua, play at her paws. Since they have been talking about closing this home, I have been facing a lot of health editions. I have hollow and anxiety.

Amanda came to California from Nicaragua 38 years ago. Id preferably kill myself than be homeless, she responds. I suffered a lot a very long time ago, while I was homeless. I am so scared. I have been assaulted in other cities because of this, she suggests, gesticulating to her face and figure. Here I act, I come home. I am safe.

Most of Buena Vistas residents who are able to work many are disabled, housebound or elderly are employed within a few minutes commute of the park, doing the low-paid enterprises that help keep Palo Alto running. Among them is Melodie Cheney, 57, who has worked as an administrative deputy at a nearby college for the past 18 years.

This is like my second lineage, she speaks. Im a single girl. I know my neighbours. We watch out for one another. This is the closest community Ive ever come across.

Don Roberto Munoz, 40, affectionately nicknamed the cowboy because of his logo hat, wreaks servicing the septic tank of nearby multimillion-dollar mansions. He lives with his wife and two daughters in a classic silver Airstream trailer, surrounded by potted bushes, and has been unable to answer his daughter Jennys questions about whether she will be able to finish high school. Agitated, she has been unable to sleep at night. If he told her the truth, he says, he would have to say: Its impossible. To pay the hires around here in Palo Alto is crazy. My spouse wields part-time, I wreak full-time, but still we wont have the money.

Last week, Jenny, 14, told the worlds most powerful grandmother about her sleepless darkness. Hillary Clinton had piloted into township for a campaign fundraiser, and Jenny was invited, to facilitate invoke the plight of Buena Vistas occupants with the frontrunner for the Democratic presidential nomination. I told her that living at Buena Vista had been a huge part of my life and I was worried that I wont be able to stay here, Jenny does. She reports that Clinton seemed concerned, and said she is endeavouring to take up Jennys invitation to visit her familys trailer. She said it wasnt right that I would have to leave my education and try to fit in a different community far away.

Munoz says he chose to come to Buena Vista not only because it was affordable, but because of the friendliness of the multiracial parish in the heart of such a white and wealthy municipality. When we arrive in 11 years ago, I articulated, This is the place we are looking for. We have all the different cultures in here, he adds, counting off the home countries of his neighbours on his digits: El Salvador, Nicaragua, Brazil, Mexico, China. Across the potholed superhighway on which children hasten tricycles and play in liquid engages, Saul Bracamontes, 30, and his wife Erika Escalante, 29, live in the most well-appointed trailer on the website, with their eight-year-old son, Andre. While some of the other mobile homes are patched up with membrane metal and corrugated cast-iron, Saul and Erikas trailer is double-glazed and covered a colour they announce firecracker red.( I know it appears pink, but its not, Bracamontes tells .)

Escalante, the president of the Buena Vista Residents Association and programme coordinator at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation, has lived in Buena Vista since she was 11, when her father Rene, a retired construction worker, moved into the common so he had been able to transmit “their childrens” to the nearby school. Barren Park Elementary is just a 10 -minute walk away, and is particularly well equipped: every student is issued with a free iPad instead of a notebook. More than 100 schoolchildren from Buena Vista are enrolled in Palo Altos schools.

All of Renes juveniles went to university, the first generation of the family to do so. Erika, who lives a few doors down from her parents and sister, is hoping to follow her daddies sample and save enough fund to transport Andre to university. But the family horror this wont happen if they have to move.

We might be able to stay in the sphere, Saul tells, but it will be living offer cheque to wage cheque; we will not be able to save. Even if we can stay, Erikas parents will not be able to render to abide their own families will be torn apart. Andre will no longer be able to roam between his grandparents, aunts and mothers trailers, and Erika will have to cut down her hours to take care of him after school.

The Escalantes arent the only family who have lived in the ballpark for generations. Blanca Fonseca moved with her family from Mexico City in 1981, when she was 14, and has watched its transformation from all Caucasian elderlies to 90% Hispanic parents with “their childrens”. The common( total population 400) now mansions 10% of all the Hispanic people living in Palo Alto.

I stood 33 times in this trailer, she announces of the small story she shares with her husband, a waiter at Reposado, a high-end Mexican eatery in downtown Palo Alto. A photo of the couple standing outside the trailer on their wed day takes pride of place on the sideboard. We decided to work hard and stay here to save money, so that we would have enough money for my son to be the first party in the family to go to university. I craved him to have a better life, and he did.

Three years ago, Joe Jisser, whose pedigree has co-owned Buena Vista since the 80 s, transmitted letters to all residents saying he was considering selling the park to developers. Tension between the residents and Jisser, 44, has remained high ever since, and powerful Palo Altans lawyers, publicists and academics have thrown their weight behind the residents cause.

Developmental psychologist Professor Amado Padilla, of Stanford University, two miles up El Camino Real, has been working to highlight health risks to the families if their children are forced to leave their Palo Alto academies. I dont wondering where these households will go it has become so expensive living a life in Silicon Valley, he answers. My son is a college graduate who works full era, and he cant yield living a life in Palo Alto. What hope is there for service proletarians? Our police force, most of our coaches, most of the professional service employees, dont live[ in or near Palo Alto ], answers Padilla, who has been a resident since 1998. If the ballpark shuts and theyre not able to stay here, these people are going to lose their jobs, their homes, and “their childrens” are going to lose one of the best institution regions in the state.

A study by Padilla and his students found that none of the 129 school-age children around the common, 90% of whom are Hispanic, had fallen out of academy, compared with a 26.7% drop-out rate of Hispanic students nationwide. Several Buena Vista students have stimulated it to college in recent years, including Karen Camacho, who is currently at Stanford, the Ivy League university that has given delivery to so many of the tech startups that offspring Silicon Valley.

It is the businesses that have moved it so expensive to live in the orbit, and Padilla says they probably should take specific responsibilities and try to accommodate the workers who need to live close to their employment. It would be nice if Facebook did, if Google did, if Apple did if they took specific responsibilities to maintain affordability in Palo Alto and the circumventing communities.

Its not just the Palo Alto community that is suffering from the marching of tech business across California. In 2013, protesters smashed openings on the Google- and Apple-branded bus that move works to their Silicon Valley jobs, waving placards speaking Fuck off Google. A University of California, Berkeley learn found that leases within a short gait of a Google bus stop are lift at a rate of 20%, compared with a 5% national norm. The shuttle impression has helped send payments in the more popular San Francisco vicinities above some of the most expensive areas of Manhattan.

Ken Dauber is a Palo Alto resident and a Google software engineer. Over a lunch of kale salad, three-bean soup and shrimp fettuccine in the dappled sunshine outside his Google office, Dauber explains why this trailer park is representing a wider difficulty. For these pedigrees, going their boys into Palo Alto schools and hearing them graduate is part of an upward-mobility campaign, he enunciates. It is about inducing sure the next generation lives middle-class was living in America, so that they dont have to represent the same kind of relinquishes as their parents.

Dauber knows that his employer is in part to blame for the overwhelming distres on land values in the Valley, and has told his leaders they should be doing more to assistant not only their own workers, but military forces of lowly paid people who help keep the community clicking. Losing this common would intend losing an enormous amount of ethnic and income diversity.

In May 2015, after a two-and-a-half-year review, Palo Alto City Council approved Jissers plan to sell the park, saying that landowners have a legal right to sell their belonging when they want. As part of the application, Jisser has pledged to compensate inhabitants for the loss of their trailers, which in most cases cannot be moved, and pay for temporary accommodation and relocation expenses. The inhabitants say the money offered does not come close to covering their costs. Padilla, Dauber and several other tenants of Palo Alto have helped inhabitants file suits against the city council for approving Jissers redevelopment plan with, they claim, insufficient considered by the impact and relocation costs.

As the residents panicked, a potential saviour marched on to Buena Vistas forecourt. Joe Simitian, the county supervisor of Santa Clara, the local authority that administers Palo Alto and often of Silicon Valley, has cleared it his mission to end the order progress towards eviction and save the common and its residents.

He is not challenging Jisser in special courts, but plea directly to his billfold. Simitian, a 62 -year-old balding anglophile, has pulled together $39 m of metropolitan and district money to give Jisser a third path: sell the park to his authority and allow the residents to stay, while making a tidy earning on his familys original investment.

Under Simitians propose, the ballpark would be transmit to Caritas Corporation, a non-profit organisation that has rescued 20 mobile home commons across California. Even so, Jisser, who arrives for work at Buena Vista at 5am every morning, refused to speak to me when I saw his prefab part within the ballpark. The pedigree have given up trying to make their speciman via the media. In a snatched discussion with a reporter from USA Today earlier this year, he said, I dont know what to tell you. I live down in San Jose. I entail, I cant even afford Palo Alto.

Simitian is now on a mission to find extra stores, going through his contacts in the tech fellowships around the Valley for fund to sweeten the deal. If that doesnt design, he says, hes prepared to join the residents in front of the bulldozers. He will be standing there with a cluster of new friends. Amanda, Arturo, Erika, Melodie, Roberto and the rest of the Buena Vista 400 will be there, and theyve pledged to dig in for a fight. I dont plan on going anywhere, Melodie supposes. Im going to be here until they pick me up and carry me out.
