The thing about the time lords is yeah they’re a super powerful species, it wouldn’t be all that inaccurate to call them gods of time, but you get yourself a time lord and like 70% of the time it’s like oh this is a guy I could kick in the shins really hard and get away with it unscathed

Interview Question for Etsushir:
What was the vibe like as a foot soldier during the suppression of the North Finn Rebellion? Did it feel doomed from the start or did it only fall apart once the Odomache was assaulted and killed?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
#Etsushir is generally very quiet and guarded and wouldn't give this extensive of a response to most people but he CAN be this#talkative when he's comfortable and being approached genuinely as a peer. He has a lot on his mind.#wrt the war:#Basically what happened was that the approach was EXTREMELY confident. The first Imperial Wardi invasion of Finnerich was an almost#one-sided affair. The Wardi side had superiority in numbers + training + weaponry. The Finns had some basal fire lances but no#muskets (and the majority had no firearms whatsoever)#But this time around the rebelling Finns had reverse engineered the muskets and produced their own. Most not of#the same quality as the Wardi muskets due to lack of resources but more than enough to be a threat#They distributed these firearms strategically by need while the Wardi forces distributed their own by rank and among elite#groups of soldiers. Which was a functional strategy to distribute this (very limited) resource when engaged in conventional#warfare but the Finns engaged primarily through guerilla tactics and thus very effectively countered the Wardi military organization.#This resulted in situations where large groups of footsoldiers armed with spears and bows were slaughtered and routed by like#A Single Guy with a gun hiding in ambush. Which was extremely demoralizing#The Wardi military forces were also plagued with infighting which only worsened when this invasion turned out to Not be a cakewalk#which made them slow and ineffective to adjust to the Finns' tactics and further damaged their own troops' morale.#Bottom line being that most of the common footsoldiers got a distinct feeling that they were Fucked pretty soon after it all began#etsushir#ask meme

#not art (yet!!!!)#preddy good kristen I got goin on in this piece#for some reason my brain isnt letting me do this one. been stalling on it for a good few days. but I intend to break thru it#I need to put this on paper at least once#(its space sweepers. I think it would be funny if the kids are in that universe too but theyre just like off to the side doing their own#thing pretty much unrelated to the main plot. theyre delivery people. theyre all still teens. they get up to shenanigans and then#one day they look up like huh the guy who founded eden fucking died?? when#kristen specifically I got a decent amount hashed out in my brain somehow. she's like an engineered messiah with a grafted engine#along her upper body skeleton that'd let her spontaneously rearrange objects on a molecular level#so she can theoretically knit wounds or cure diseases by thinking abt it very hard#sadly the engine of course takes enormous amount of energy to power. so most of the time in practice she just#has a half-metal skeleton that doesn't do anything. so she's buff as shit on the upper side and one of her punches can break your neck#but her mobility is limited and she sprains her ankles like every other week. her shins have broken like a few times#I genuinely love the way her shoes n braces look in this one its very fun#there are a lot of choices I made in this one that are so fun and also just like. a result of putting them in space sweepers#and thinking to myself here and there hey this would be cool if it harkens back to their canon designs#not riz tho other than being human he is fully exactly like how he looks in canon. hes just like that#hes the navigator and he charts their courses by hand with a school calculator#(also technically their legal counselor since he's sorta responsible for not putting them in traffic control's hands)#drawing this does make me realise a lot of these dynamics are really fun lol. idk if Im gonna ever do anything like proper for this but#at the very least if I draw this the idea will be out there)

#shedinja#now THIS is what i'm talkin' about! i love shedinja. i think it's a very unique pokémon and wonder guard is very *cool* if only it were ever#y'know. relevant. this thing is weak to way too many types for it to be relevant but like it's still cool in concept i think#you kinda can't tell what it is from this angle but that's why you have me here to tag it so you do know what it is#so. bit of a life update for you all. i accidentally deleted some semi-important files i needed for work. like two weeks ago#and i didn't realize i did‚ bc they were inside a folder that i deleted. but i didn't need the files at the time and i hadn't for months#i hadn't used those files since like last year. but now i need them again and i just realized that i deleted them two weeks ago#by accident? and now i need them again. to be able to do my work. so i'm actually queueing this guy and the next guy up#while i'm supposed to be working. as i've just sent an email to my boss being like Haha Hey. Do you Have a Backup of tHese Files……… PLease#and i'm hoping DESPERATELY that she does. if she doesn't i'll have to fucking reverse engineer them which i am not excited for#if it comes to fruition. so i'm just hoping she has a copy of them. feelin like shedinja against a fire-type rn fr i swear#i'll let you all know what she says when i get her response. if i get it before i'm done queuing up shedinja and whismur#spoilers. whismur is next but you could just look up the natdex numbers. and know that whismur is next#also don't tell me to look in the trash. on my computer. i know they're not there. for one i checked and for two they couldn't be there#because i rm -r'd the folder. i didn't just right-click delete that shit. i killed that shit. it's GONE#you might be asking me… why would you do that! and i would say? i did not know these files were in there#you didn't ask for all this information so i'm cutting it off here

i was watching star trek and this clip of Worf's childhood pet disappearing singlehandedly made me laugh so fucking hard it sent me into a coughing fit and distracted me from watching the episode for like half an hour because i was SO fixated on how funny it was
the echoed "HOURNK" as he fades out of existence. the 80s editing and lighting. the bewildered look on Worf's face. i am in love with this show

Ursula Vernon is an excellent author, but *damn* does she refuse to let any of her male leads realize that they’re people, not weapons! And frankly it’s driving me up a wall! I understand that characters don’t always develop positively, but can we please get a paladin whose arc is about unlearning seeing himself as a weapon, and learning to see himself as a full person who can live for himself and not just others? (My pie in the sky would be one unlearning their kinda Catholic ideas about guilt and suffering and justice but. I doubt that would happen.)

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/interactive/2024/michael-lewis-chris-marks-the-canary-who-is-government/
Right through World War II, miners had used timbers to support the roof directly over their heads. In the 1940s, a handful of coal companies showed that it was far more effective to bolt the roof, effectively to itself. It struck many miners, at first, as completely weird. They’d drill a hole into the mine roof and then drive a metal bolt between three and six feet long into it. The bolt pinned the sedimentary layers together the way a toothpick pins a turkey club sandwich. The success of the bolt — and the toothpick — turns on the presence of at least one solid, strong layer. Roof bolts, in effect, used strong rock to hold weaker rock in place. “The single most important technological development in the field of ground control in the entire history of mining,” Chris called them.
Roof bolts were adopted more rapidly than any other technology in coal mining. Someone had the idea, and almost instantly they were being drilled into mine roofs. They obviously worked and yet … they hadn’t. At least not for a very long time. In the accident statistics, Chris stumbled upon a riddle: The powerful new technology hadn’t reduced deaths and injuries. “The accepted story was someone invented roof bolts and it was safer right away,” he said. “I looked into it and saw it just wasn’t true. By the end of the 1950s, death rates had actually gone up!” It was a full two decades before roof fall fatality rates began to decline, and dramatically. That year, 1969, also happened to be the year that the Bureau of Mines was finally given the enforcement power it needed to properly regulate the industry.
The standard story — the story accepted by the coal mine industry — was that new technology had led inexorably to greater safety. What had happened was far more interesting — and told you how this little American subculture worked, rather than the way economists who had never seen the inside of a coal mine might imagine that it worked. Roof bolts were indeed more efficient and effective than timber supports in preventing chunks of roof from wounding miners. But they were expensive to install. The coal mine companies had, in effect, figured out how few roof bolts they needed to use to maintain the same level of risk their miners had endured before their invention. “Simply stated,” Chris wrote, “roof bolts can only prevent roof falls if enough of them are installed.”
And so, amazingly, for the first 20 years of its use, the main effect of the most important lifesaving technology in the history of coal mining was to increase the efficiency of the mines while preserving existing probabilities of death and injury. Taking advantage, essentially, of people conditioned to a certain level of risk by failing to ameliorate that risk.
