This still hurts. They often say you can fear things so much you unintentionally will them into existence... one of Viktor's fears was being forgotten, not contributing to the world in a way that would make a difference.

And you might say he still went down in history, which is true, in a way, but they remember the Machine Herald. The one person who knew the truth, who knew Viktor, died with him and is now seen as the saviour, as the defender of tomorrow, rightfully so, but the people of Piltover (and Zaun) don't have the full context of those events.

Jayce would hate being the only one credited for their work. He would never have been able to pursue his dream without Viktor. The dream would not have existed without Viktor and Hextech would never have been invented in the first place had Viktor not stopped Jayce's attempt and supported him. That is what happened in the reality Ekko found himself in; Jayce had died and Viktor soon followed because their lives are inextricably bound. There was no cure for his terminal illness with Jayce gone.

Jayce always saw Viktor as his equal on an intellectual and individual level, he saw him as his partner, regardless of his origins and his disability. There is freedom in being seen as a person beyond an illness but seeing someone completely apart from disability, it's easy to lose sight of how deeply they're affected, not just as a struggle or a motivator but as something that completely alters world view. He often forgot Viktor was from the undercity, maybe not consciously, I do believe Jayce was aware of the problems related to Zaun, and the prejudice directed towards Zaunites, but he never quite grasped the full extent of how it affected Viktor. It took Jayce getting disabled and walking a similar path to Viktor's to truly see the world through his eyes, or as close to it as one can get. It took him a fall into the depths of Zaun and a crushed leg, hitting rock bottom in the literal sense of the word, and then having to climb up into Piltover, just like Viktor did, to realise he had unintentionally been overlooking how different Viktor's world was. All those years he had been facing struggles invisible to Jayce and Jayce could never have known because he saw him as an equal, he was still detached from the experience because loving someone with a disability and living with a disability are two things. That is why his words mattered so much. It wasn't coming only from the place of love (whether platonic or romantic that doesn't matter, really, though I'd say it was clear enough) but lived experience.

People's worst fear is often others seeing them the way they see themselves and Jayce did, and it changed nothing. He still loved him the same. "-but you were never broken, Viktor" didn't mean 'You are one of us', it meant 'You are yourself and that's enough, it has always been enough' and there is a difference in those statements. To someone who, despite believing in his work's worth, didn't particularly value himself, there must have been a difference.

The Hexgates were theirs.

You know what I hate? The irony of Viktor teasing Jayce for signing every page of his notes during their first meeting, with the implication that he is afraid someone else might claim his work for themselves, only for Viktor's name to then be erased from the Hexgates documents by the end of Season 2 and their work attributed to Jayce alone.

Like yes, in retrospect, they should have signed every page together, and maybe even put some unremovable watermak on their blueprints so Viktor's involvement couldn't be ignored.

jayvik shippers need to understand that non-jayvik shippers are annoyed with you not because of not shipping jayvik, but because there is no escaping you.

you clog every tag on every social media platform. want to look at caitvi? jayvik posts tagged as caitvi for some reason. want to look at viktor posts? jayvik. jayce posts? jayvik. want to look at mel posts? jayvik. anyone talking about mel and viktor in the same sentence is obviously secretly talking about jayvik. (and by the way here's why every mel scene is secretly about jayvik and every viktor scene is secretly about how all he thinks about is jayce and why mel is inferior and jayce was a good boy and was right all along). you dominate the discourse and don't give room for criticism of jayce or viktor's writing and don't tolerate other interpretations. every theme in the show was about jayvik all along.

on my main blog, i write fic and make arcane posts - not complaining, staying in my lane, making my own content for me and my friends - and my tags, comments, and replies are full of people talking about jayvik and asking about jayvik when the ship is not tagged or present in my posts or fics, and jayce usually isn't even tagged because i just don't have fun with him as a character right now, and all people want to talk about or comment on is him or jayvik. so here i am, venting on my sideblog

this is a curse i specifically bear and cannot escape because as a fan of the writing of these aforementioned characters SEPARATELY, any and every algorithm is gonna shovel piles of jayvik posts 10 feet deep right up against my front door, and everyone on tumblr is "tagging for visibility" or whatever so there's no escaping it here either. blocking and muting does not help because either jayvik isn't always tagged, or jayvik is tagged at random and i end up hiding swathes of posts i actually do want to see. and there is also the fact that i WOULD be into jayvik because i do think it's fun, i WOULD have more fun discussing jayce specifically as a character who i think is a very fun hot mess, if social media wasn't making me despise both with a burning passion right now, which sucks

the only haven is Ao3 because people are still slightly sane when tagging their fics - at least with the relationship tags. jayvik shippers you do need to stop tagging mel though along with any other character who doesn't affect the plot of your story and i am dead serious

this is a vent post but i am also declaring - the reason why people are frustrated and annoyed at jayvik at large, as a concept, even if you yourself are a chill shipper and you don't see why we all can't just get along, is because the collective has poisoned the well and it's not fun for other people to be in the same space as you right now. there are a lot of you - be glad of that and happy, not every fandom let alone ship gets this large and energetic a following - but don't be surprised that people like me are gonna be mad because. it is irritating. and you're everywhere. and unfortunately there's nothing that any one person can do about it. it is an environmental thing and you just. need to come to terms and be aware, idk

So I saw this blog (it had some terfy vibes but I couldn’t confirm it) that said, ‘ You destroyed gender roles! Why is it that when men are weaker and women are stronger in media they are labeled as trans?’ While this is kinda common, I don’t think that is a widespread problem like the poster made it out to be. I think it is just a tactic to demonize people who hc characters as trans. They then listed some characters but her main one was Dipper Pines, from Gravity Falls.

I’m sorry, you think Dipper Pines is being hc as trans solely because of him being less physically strong than other characters? There was an entire episode dedicated to feeling as though you aren’t man enough due to societal expectations. No one can decide if he is a man or not. The lesson he takes away from the episode resonates with a lot of transpeople (especially transmasc ones). Queer people are also a large part of Gravity Fall’s fanbase. When a show draws attention to gender roles in a setting, many people want to make room for trans readings. If that episode of Gravity Fall’s was not made, I think the hc’s about Trans Dipper would be almost halved.

Another character she mentioned was Viktor, from League of Legends and Arcane. Viktor’s trans hc’s, in my experience (as I hc him as trans too) is due to a few factors. One, he is a transhumanist…The prefix making for associations with the one of the most common usages of said prefix, transgender. He is also a robot man, robots I think, though on a lesser scale than monsters, resonate with queer people. He has taken initiative to modify his body how he sees fit, against what society would expect of him. He is also an outsider, feeling like he doesn’t fit in (and to be honest he doesn’t) with Piltover. Characters who have a struggle to fit in due to unchangeable qualities often resonate with trans people. I believe one of Viktor’s main creators said they support the headcanons, although that may just be gossip. His homoerotic friendship with Jayce also plays a role in this. Many people with gay relationships in media are also headcanoned as trans (the so gay they’re trans pipeline), which may be the issue she was trying to point to about trad gender roles. Again, while I think this does happen to a degree. I must also point to that in situations that have room for LGBTQ characters, people who consume said media, might hc characters as LGBTQ.

Luz Noceda is a character she brought up as well. Luz Noceda is in the Gay Witch Show…I’m sorry if you didn’t want trans headcanons on the Gay Witch Show, you brought it upon yourself! She is headcanoned as trans for multiple reasons here is a compiled list-The so gay they are trans pipeline, want to escape society being queer friendly (and attracting trans viewers), fanbase and show itself being pretty trans friendly (ie having many trans people), demonized by society for something she can’t control, themes of found family, evil puritan guy is the villain of said show.

That post just couldn’t leave my mind and what was I supposed to do? Not type up a response at 2:00 am???

I love talking about my ocs so much :)

I’m writing this after writing everything under the cut, I love talking about my ocs and ideas and I will take any opportunity to talk about them. I have so many I didn’t even mention below-

Now I’ve been developing a story for less than a year now called The Storyteller’s Game where the whole premise is: Sage gets trapped in a different reality to play in a being called The Storyteller’s game. They have to find others to escape while Storytellers throws obstacles in the way.

A lot of my ocs currently are from that project so I’ll talk about my favs from that!!

Sage is the protagonist who I adore! They are based on some of my favorite protagonists in shows/games such as Phoenix Wright, Sara Chidouin, and Hajime Hinata. They have plant and owl motifs. (Everyone in the TSG universe have an animal inspiration)

Storyteller is probably my absolute favorite!! She usually resembles a human with ermine/weasel features and is the main antagonist with Corvis, an anthropomorphic crow. She is chaotic and likes to have fun due to her excitable nature. (Think Hades from KIU).

Moth is also a favorite of mine. He’s a human kid with a really sad backstory. Without going into detail, his parents weren’t the best and now he lives alone with issues. I’ve had him for years and I’ve always found him so interesting because of how he is now when looking at his past. Like, he is the youngest in the human cast but he’s vulgar and violent due to his environment. A nicer thing I can add here is that he has a scarf based on the Deathhead’s Hawk Moth! It’s a very cool bug I can assure you!!

Kitt is another fav of mine who is a Sherlock Holmes fanboy. He was actually very much inspired from Sherlock in the Great Ace Attorney. He has gone through some stuff but he has people who care about him: his father and his brother/friend Italo, a wannabe lawyer). There’s a drawing of him on the other blog but I’ll describe it here. He has a pink ribbon around the collar on his collared shirt which was a gift from one of his dad’s friends fun fact!

I’ve show him here before I got the new blog but Aries has always been a favorite!! He looks human with some goat features. He used to be a one-off oc but I’ve been getting ideas for him! Their whole thing is that they have a short-term memory and they forgot everything about their human life (I should add they’re 11yrs old). I wanna make it so they believe that forgetting painful memories is better than living with them as they died so young and have mixed emotions about being the only one in the antagonist group to not remember anything about it)

I do also have ocs who aren’t a part of this universe!

Loki and Dice are some old ocs I wanna revamp. They are humans/humanoids with animal features. Loki is a goat and Dice is a cat. They were friends who had a falling out. Why you may ask… I have no clue right now-

Sparkle and Arcane are two animal ocs I had many years ago that I remembered existed and wanted to bring back. Sparkle is a fox/cat/dog creature from outer space and Arcane is a creature from earth. Sparkle can’t go back home but Arcane finds her and shows her around his world. Sparkle is also inspired by Sylveon

I also have another universe where three guys go on adventure to stop an evil warlock/wizard from trying to take over the world. Max is a human sword fighter, Eve is a witch and uses magic, and Dyle is a half-dragon maybe prince. Max is the grounded one, Eve is the silly one, and Dyle is the egotistical one. Eve also has a pet named Noi-Noi and Dyle has a small dragon friend named Quill!

This fucking coin and FCG's attitude towards it is legitimately starting to get on my nerves, lmao

Ira thinks the Malleus Key is missing a lens. Like the one the Bells Hells had that Ashton destroyed. So if Ludinus needed that, and Matt essentially planted it on the Bells Hells when they took it from Ira's machine, then it very well could have been a deus ex machina for Ludinus and the Vanguard, but Ashton destroyed it.

(I will say, related to that— it would be very cool and thematic if Ludinus was counting on the Bells Hells bringing that lens to him, because he can see the web of fate, and Ashton still destroyed it because they are so chaotic in nature that they are essentially impervious to that sight.)

FCG racial ability: They have a harmonious aeormaton ability that gives them advantage on checks made to identify or discern information about things they can see. It sounds like this is related to the ability that lets them cast identify once per day.

FCG connects their head wires to the arcane power core of the downed Warder, and they can control the thing like they're in Pacific Rim.

There are "trophies" lining the sides of the crater, hanging on spikes. There are some Judicator heads and a lot of holy symbols.

The excavated spire comes to about halfway up the crater. Dark iron plating surrounds it like armor, and residuum glows from its base. Four other smaller towers are angled toward the point. The dispel wave originates not from the spire or key, but from two devices along the base.

It seems like most of the people in the crater who are dressed in Ruby Vanguard robes are able to communicate telepathically. Which is kind of ominous! because telepathic communication is an inherent racial ability of kalashtars.

The four smaller spires are being filled with dunamis potions.

Otohan is here. Two vials are ejected from her backpack, and someone else installs another two.

Liliana is here too. She glides down from one of the catwalks and starts conversing with someone near the key.

It seems like each of these caverns off the main chamber house a cluster of arcane power sources, which tracks with Caleb and Beau's info that the Vanguard are adding more power sources and moving them into side chambers.

Entering in to one of them, they find a group of 5 guarding the power sources, and enter combat.

Members of the Paragon Call are forced to wear symbols of the Raven Queen as "part of their attire."

"Bad guys are still people. And you don't know why this person was here." Maybe that gets to the root of what separates the Bells Hells from the other main campaign parties. All of these people might've been on the other side of this fight, if the right conditions were met. The only difference between them and the people they're killing is circumstance.

Otohan enters the cavern with the Bells Hells.

As Otohan enters the chamber, Beau and Caleb detonate both of the machines that are producing the dispel wave. She runs, angrily, out of the chamber, back toward the key.

FCG falls in the airship. Ashton destroys the arcane power sources. So many things are happening at once.

Wearing "almost ceremonial garb, as opposed to armor." inbe4 Matt describes the Malleus Key activation as exactly like Ashton's visions of their father's ritual

Ryn might be shattered, Ludinus deactivates FCG's shell so they're just inside the automaton with no vision—

Their stealth plan is fucked. Vanguard and Call operatives are swarming the key and the alcoves surrounding it.

However, their group deception check succeeds, so they're part of the fervor.

Everyone hears a singular voice. "Friends! Individuals who have come with us on this journey! Our timetable has been accelerated. Please, gather at the key." It's Otohan's voice. The Bells Hells hear this too, so they are currently — because of their successful deception checks — being considered as part of the Vanguard or the Call.

Caleb stands with the mage-hunter golem clasped around his neck. Beau walks down the ramp, with Liliana's hand extended toward her, controlling her.

"Thank you all for joining us. It seems we've had expected guests. Caleb, Beauregard — You have been thorns in all of our sides for quite some time. I think it's only fitting that I would give you front-row seats for what you've worked so hard to prevent." They are shacked and chained. "Someone, please, free our ornament." Ryn's right arm is broken off. "As I'm sure you all heard, we are working at an accelerated pace. A number of entities look to close, and I would hate to disappoint for the time being, so... [Green residuum veins light up the entire spire.] And it's taken many years of research to ensure that my appreciation for perfection can be rightly accomplished. [Armored sides of the spire shunt downward, exposing openings where dodecahedrons, rimmed in gold, are affixed.] Well, I guess it's time we brought it to us. [Energy charges into it, the device begins to flow, everyone feels themselves stop, you can't move, you can't breathe. The stars above, the storm, pass by. Hours go by in seconds, before the red moon is held aloft. All of you come back into place, and Ludinus' hand is somewhat withered and dark.] Very well."

Ludinus is on a platform above. Liliana floats above that platform. And there are many, many people.

A shadow obfuscates Ruidus before rapidly descending on Ludinus himself.

It's the Silver Sun! It descents at a rapid speed directly down into the tunnel, as Ludinus throws another hand up. A forcefield appears atop the key, and the airship impacts, killing dozens, dozens, dozens of the surrounding watchers, Paragon's Call, Vanguard members. No impact on the spire or the key itself.

We're in combat. There isn't gong to be too much lore during this.

But this is a doable fight. These people are not alone. They can free Caleb and Beau. The Ashari are on their way.

Ira survived. He's looking to find a different way to destroy the key.

Ludinus continues to speak. We're not in initiative yet. "The greatest lie ever told is that we need them. We are their gardens, their cattle. They created us to feed them with our faith, our hopes, our souls, lapping up their fables, giving them form, purpose, control... they did not give us this world, they took it from the Titans. Slew them in their home, and tilled its soil to harvest us for all eternity."

Ira survived. Xandis is nowhere to be seen, but Ira is trying to find another way to get to the key, to destroy it.

Ludinus speaks again. "But we, their special children, surpassed our masters. We questioned their games, we found our own will, our own power, our own drive to create that eclipsed their own. We unraveled their weave, and killed one of them, became one of them. Then, then, they feared us... The Calamity was not a tragedy, it was a punishment. Their war amounted to them little more than context, and we all suffered for our excellence. A genocidal admonishment for following our own will. They still fear us, hiding behind their gate, reaping our dreams as they deceive us to ceading our agency to their whims and squabbles. They should be afraid..."

Lilian reacts to Imogen's call. "Mama... mama. It doesn't have to be like this. [Where are you? I can't see you.] I love you. The better halves make a better whole. Please remember. [Imogen, I told you to run, I've been telling you to run. Why did you come here?] I wanna help you get free. It doesn't have to be like this. A detonation off to the side. It was Ira. Liliana turns, looks — Ira begins to shift through the ruin, and as she puts a hand out, Liliana banishes Ira. (It was a bad dice roll. If Liliana keeps concentration for 1m, Ira stays gone.)

Ludinus continues to talk, to FCG. "You, you are not given life by any god, but my the hands of mortal creators like us. We are the new source of life, of creation. Stain my legacy all you wish; I have worked selflessly for a thousand years to find the means of shattering these chains of fate and oppression. Let me be your villain if it means liberation for all, and forever... born in you, chosen Ruidus-born. Seeds of Predathos' power. The burgeoning scions who now break these bonds, you have all gathered here for your true purpose... Everything scales, in the universe. Even ecosystems. Ludinus looks down. "Right on time." He casts power word stun, and she's stunned to a round of Otohan's attacks. Now we roll initiative. But because Keyleth is in her earth elemental form, she essentially has a 120hp buffer between her and Otohan.

Otohan uses unleash incarnation, which is a 3rd level echo knight ability. And with an action surge, she takes down the elemental form. The backpack she has gives Otohan the echo knight abilities, but she's a psi-warrior by subclass.

"She goes for a heart strike. And where Otoahn's blade was, you see a mass of feathers... Standing over and protecting [Keyleth's] body, daggers in each hand. 'Don't you even dare.'"

Orym action surges against Otohan and gets a goading attack off. This battle is a mess and I can't keep track of it but I'm transcribing Ludinus and Liliana's dialogue as best I can. I'm slightly drunk but I'm TRYING OKAY

Liliana holds her action as she looks to Imogen. There's a chance here for her to flip sides.

Chetney leaps on to Ludinus' back. "You said something about... natural predators." His AC is 19, which Chetney hits — but he uses shield.

It is time, my children. {other skyships begin to appear — Vasselheim and other forces, just as the red moon glows above. Images race — what happened? it is confusion, pain, fog, fugue.

Laudna. "You glance around, as your vision comes to. You see yourself sitting on the edge of a rocky cliff, the smell is sulfurous and acrid, acidic. Unfamiliar. You look around, and there are these pools of strange colored liquid under the night. An unfamiliar landscape — seems terrestrial. You look to your left, and you see Ashton, half-draped over this outcropping."

Ashton. "You see Laudna, you both see this chasm space below you. These little bits of natural geysers poofing steamy water. We won, we did it. Where are we? Where's everybody? You glance upwards, and 10 feet up."

Orym. You almost fall off the edge of this cliff, but you catch yourself. What is this? The Voice of the Tempest is nowhere to be seen.

The stars look familiar. No one else around. In some distance, just above the cloud line, the red moon, standing. A singular, solid red beam that vanishes below some far-off mountain line. They're in some kind of chasm, a valley.

FCG. "You hit something soft. It's the faintly dawn-like light cresting over some direction. You look around, and there's dust, but it's white, like fine crystal, like snow." They see no Catha, no Ruidus. Just dunes, white, crystalline. Rocky outcroppings, cliffside in the tundra, this snow-fallen desert. They see a snow-covered desert, cold air. To the east, a snow-capped mountain range, a snow-covered forest to the south. To the north, an ocean.

Fearne. Digging her way out of the snow by FCG. Chetney hears Fearne and FCG call out, as does Imogen. Chetney smells nothing of Laudna, Orym, or Ashton, but he knows where they are: the Crystal Sands Tundra, to the east of the Flotket Alps and Uthodurn.

"You split the party!" "Yeah!"

The party is split between two different parts of the planet. They still see the auroras in the sky, so the solstice isn't over yet. Laudna, FCG, Fearne, and Chetney are all in northern Wildemount, near Uthodurn; Ashton, Imogen, and Orym all seem to be in some other place, possibly near Kamordah (because of the geysers) or somewhere else with high levels of volcanic activity.

Travis hit the nail on the head. The Champion of Ravens was a required component of whatever Ludinus was doing, and Keyleth was the bait. There is no way they could've known Keyleth was coming, because the Bells Hells were the ones who called her in. She would not have been here without them. so Ludinus fucking KNOWS what's happening, he can see it all, he knows and this is all precisely to his plan. The key went off but it wasn't perfect, he was worried, concerned about the failing power sources — and the beam is still there, it's still boring. they all still have a chance to stop it.

SIGH this is gonna be the longest section. since they’re on opposing sides in their og ff.vii universe there are a lot of complexities that come with it, and the aus are mostly playing around with that by getting rid of that element completely……..

-turk!chrome au. this one’s kind of simple it just means they work together instead of against each other, and also the number of possible scenarios goes up a lot because of the close proximity. ciss.nei is also present in this au and her n chrome are both turk partners and qpps!!!!!

-octo.path 2. INITIALLY in this au chrome n reno were both thieves (chrome being dancer class who was also story-wise a thief, reno being actual thief class) who because of Unlikely Situations ended up being traveling partners, but THEN i realized HEY. WHY DIDNT I MAKE RENO A BLACKSNAKE. so he’s a blacksnake now. i don’t know why i didn’t think of that he’z literally a new delsta guy. and there are jester npcs in new delsta!!! so chrome can fit in pretty well without having to change much about him. i really like the vibe of this one but parts of it give me emotionz . you get it. moving on,

-i did think of a b.aldur’s gate 3 au. i guess it’s similar to the scrapped octo.path one.. they’re both rogues (chrome arcane trickster, reno assassin), meet after the tadpole debacle and decide trying to cure it together is the best option. (it might be in-character for reno to be like Eh. if i die i die *walks off alone* but i’m not lettinf him do that they’re doing this together somehow. maybe when they do the tadpole mind-connect thing he sees something interesting from chrome’s past and is like hmmm. i dunno.) this one is mostly for funny dnd moments (they’re my comedy ship after all.) such as chrome being like “uh no i don’t trust you to disarm that i’ll do it.” n reno being like “you sure?” and then chrome crit-failing and them standing there in silence with the blinded status effect. (“…see, i knew that was gonna h-” “don’t say anything.”)

-HFNDJ I JUST REMEMBERED I MADE THEM A GHOST TR.ICK AU. I DONT REMEMBER THE DEAL WITH IT HOLD ON. it was like . chrome died and became a ghost like s.issel……. and found reno dead too, used his ghost tricks to save him and ended up helping him with his shady real life work stuff …… ? it conflicts with regular chrome’s morals but if you mess with it the concept is really fun. ghost partner in crime. mind communication shenanigans. i wanted to draw fake screenshots for them in the art style hfndj i should do that sometime.

-oh i do have a rune f.actory au for them i guess. just in concept though <3. i can’t think of??? many canon rf charas that act similar to reno?? but he would have leon-esque dialogue humor-wise (AGH). and if chrome is the protag, giving him supposed “disliked items” does nothing because he just thinks it’s funny. game mechanic where you CANNOT lower this guy’s affection . i don’t think he would be affiliated with the sechs empire but he would have something mysterious like that going on… and he wouldn’t say much about himself so maybe his heart points would be capped lower ‘til a certain point like doug’s are??? and he wouldn’t tell you what gifts he likes either. there’d be a dialogue branch like “so what do you like, then. :/” “where’s the fun in that? try figuring it out.” and then his reactions to gifts onward would change based on that. (“really? thought you knew me better than that.”) (“hey, you’re gettin’ warmer!”) (“you’re puttin’ a lot of effort into this game. almost like you *care* about givin’ me shit.” “UH, *NO—*”)

Silco: Keeping in mind that my Silco’s main verse is post arcane… he’s aware deep down inside that he’s a failure. That what he tried didn’t work, and Zaun isn’t much better off than when he first started. Now that’s not really a big thing, and I think has showed up. What hasn’t showed up is that Silco kind of wants to try something else now, but doesn’t know how. At this point he kind of wants to try blackmailing, or controlling in some other way people in Piltover or just kind of ignoring Piltover and figuring out how to get Zaun independently trading beyond just bulk food stuffs and the like. The problem is that best case they think he’s dead, and worse case he’s now one of Caitlyn’s most wanted albeit second to Jinx. So in a way his back is against the wall. He has other ideas, but doesn’t see how to make any of them work because it’s not like he can reach outside of Zaun without attracting attention. He needs a go between, but doesn’t have anyone both suitable for that and trustworthy.

Sevika: Is permanently stressed out. There’s not really a whole lot more to say about it than that. I’ve covered how she doesn’t get days off, and all before. However the thing is Sevika basically lives in a constant state of being fully aware that how she acts reflects on Silco. She still has Silco’s comment about “don’t disappoint him again” in the back of her head. She has to maintain her reputation. If anyone pushes against her she has to push back. She has to deal with Jinx’s bullshit which only shoves her stress up all the more Why does she drink, and smoke and (if not in a relationship) go to the brothels? It’s literally self medicating. The funny thing is if you asked her she’d say she was fine, and not at all stressed out because to her it’s just how life is. Yes she’s always a bit irritated, and frustrated, and everything but isn’t everyone?

Jinx: Despite seeming flighty, and chaotic Jinx actually pays a lot more attention than most people realize. Once again this has showed up, but what hasn’t is that she enjoys learning. Not just about metal working, and explosions and fireworks and all but just in general. She feels as though she can take inspiration from almost anything under the right circumstances, and wants to know as much as possible. Part of that is because she wants more inspiration for her own work yes, but another part of it is just a never ending almost child like curiosity. It’s not as though she had any real education beyond whatever Silco gave her, and his world view is inherently limited to his own interests and goals so there’s a decent amount of stuff she doesn’t know.

The problem of course is most people are stuck up, and boring and assume she’s either stupid or too flighty to “get it” and that irritates her so even if they try to teach her Jinx isn’t going to care enough to pay attention. The counter point to that though is if someone is actually accepting of her, and doesn’t immediately judge her and basically just treats her as a person there’s a decent chance she’ll listen to them. Might not agree, and might argue but she’ll listen.

I know you've been asked this before, but still, now since toh has ended would you consider giving Arcane a chance? Not right away but maybe when feel like it. 👀

I promise it's not a bad show, I watched it after starting toh to pass the time. It's only 1 season for now and it has just 9 episodes, but these episodes are so packed! The world building is easy to grasp, the characters do interact, there's development, it has a diverse female cast and fighting scenes. There's at least 3 conflicts that interconnect at the end.

The thing about it that amazes me is that it does so much in such a little short time, 9 episodes only. I often compare it toh and wonder about how much toh could've done if they knew how to plan beforehand, because toh had all the time in the world in comparison. (I'm mentioning this because I'm also bitter about the shortening thing being thrown around to excuse the bad writing).

So I will 100% admit that Arcane sounds entirely up my alley. It's in a universe that has had literally over a decade to flesh out its lore and ideas, characters they've been working with for at least half the games life cycle, it has rave reviews, lesbians, the animation is GORGEOUS, I've actually heard surprisingly little analyzing the plot and that could be fun for me. I... just don't know why I haven't watched it. And it's not like I'm so busy as to not watch shows. I watch WAY too much Youtube and streams. That stuff is mostly mindless and pure entertainment and I can't make blogs or stories about it. But that might also be exactly why I don't watch much scripted content. See, I watch a lot of stuff while I'm on walks to have some noise going, or music while I think about writing ideas, or while I'm playing a game or the like. It's distraction. It's to turn off the part of my brain that's too wound up and emotional and analytical. Also a lot of media has the unfortunate problem of me going "What can I be inspired by this for?" Which if I was going full blast would be great! At 8k words a day, having things to distract me or keep my motor running would be almost necessary. And that's technically a conservative statement as when I first joined TOH, I did 200k words in 2 weeks. That's 15k a day. The fact that it took me months to burn out during that time period is a miracle. But when I'm depressed? Those ideas honestly hurt more than anything else. I still haven't done Amphibia blogs because I just can't get myself to bring my thoughts together independently on the subject for some reason despite the fact that I DO have things to talk about, whether that be talking about what sells the characters as family to me, what makes Sasha's introduction one of the best charismatic villains I've ever seen, how Hop Pop is showcase of fantasy trauma done right, why people CAN skip the first season and how insane that is and even for a more negative one: Why Marcy is so far easily the most awkward element of the show so far that I've seen. Not even bad but just not nearly as natural as the rest. And yes, while I'm still only at the First Temple, you can still send me Amphibia asks. It honestly helps my literal personality disorder to be responding to asks instead of making them myself.

I don't know. I wish I did. My head is a chaotic mess and I honestly just need to learn to calm down a lot more but my literal two main disciplines as a creator require my brain to be on. at maximum volume all the time. And it only gets worse when I go "Well what about Amphibia, or that TMNT series, or Molly Mcgee- Oh but you really ought to be looking for something new. Preferably something you can write for within its first week of airing. Even better if before then. Got to get that ENGAGEMENT after all! Youtube: Noah Caldwell Gervais is one of the best video game essayists out there. When I talk about just putting on something to zen out to for a few hours... Well, I've watched his 8 hour Resident Evil Retrospective twice. He also has a great, dry sense of humor and great analytical skills. Todd in the Shadows is where I go for pop song reviews. Honestly, I'm pulled in more by his One Hit Wonderland Series and his Trainwreckords but it's also nice getting incite on modern pop music. If you're into animation, you NEED New Frame Plus in your life. Daniel Floyd is absolutely amazing at his job, he's ex-Pixar so that's not surprising, and pretty much all I know about animation comes from that channel. Absolutely phenomenal work. Twitch: CauseImDanJones is my favorite streamer period. Not only is his chill vibes immaculate, he has this insane talent to say the most bat shit crazy things and act like they're entirely normal. He never is an over the top streamer but he still manages some of that "WHAT JUST HAPPENED!?" energy those people have. JHobz296 is someone you likely know if you watch GDQ. For those who don't know him though: He's my go to for speedrun content. He does a lot of Kingdom Hearts speedruns, does a lot of Kingdom Hearts 2 Rando WAY better than I do and when he does variety, he keeps it laid back and casual. (I like chill streamers). Gilbot9000 is my last callout. He does a lot of fighting game streams and likes to throw it back old school, or play games with an old school vibe to them. He's a nice dude and a good friend of mine so I'd be remiss to not mention him.

Woke was originally about racism, but of course the reactionaries took that word and now use it as a way to hide their own bigotry or is just a stand-in for whatever slur they can't use in public conservation.

when you know that the word woke is aave and refers to someone who's informed about systemic antiblack racism all those conservative rants about "the woke mob" are that much more transparent. whether or not they know what it actually means, the effect of misusing it in the way they do is the same. most people will end up thinking it just means "the radical left" or some other nebulous and vague anti-conservative movement, and whatever topic du jour is considered "woke" ends up completely sweeping any discussions about the antiblack systems that the us is built upon under the rug

Progress Update 01 - Character Introductions

This is progress update 01 for my novel. I'm writing it for my master's classes at SNHU. To date, I have an intro, the first chapter, and half of the second chapter. I'm writing this blog to keep my shit in order and my brain on track and free of thoughts. Additionally, earning a following pre-publication seems like it would be useful, so I'll just be transparent about that. I'm not trying to live off my writing, but I do want an agent and a good editor. So I can't just publish my work and pray to god that people read it, I've gotta put in a little leg work.

With that in mind, the main focus of this blog is to talk about my progress with the novel and contextualize the writing process against the publication process. I have no specific plans for publication now, but as they develop I'll detail them here.

Let's get into the novel. The idea for The Stars have Always Beckoned Us is relatively simple. Ernest, a scholar at Solas Realt in a fictional Boston Victorian inspired city, feels the rush of discovery and love for magic. He wants to make a contribution to the field of Astronomy, which in this universe is a combination of arcane magic and science. Spells are created by invoking the names of certain planets and channeling their power. Ernest intends to find a new planet which he can harness the power of, and then cast a spell to observe farther and more closely than anyone before. He intends to leave a mark on the field and establish his name.

I wanted to use the name Ernest Ebreitas, but I'm not sure if it's appropriate or even legal to bite Bloodborne like that. Of course, the game is a huge part of the inspiration for the book, but that doesn't mean I can just copy it, I think. I mean it's only a name and a reference, I'm not like stealing the intellectual property of the game, or is just the name considered IP? It's a question an editor would know the answer to.

Ernest is determined. He's a little snobbish about the Academy; he doesn't have a lot of friends (two, to be exact, and one of them lives far away) and he doesn't make any effort to be social. All of his time is poured into his research and his classes. Ernest doesn't really understand the concept of "getting his hands dirty" because things sort of naturally fall into his lap. He's not exactly a genius, but things kind of tend to go right for him. This ease of access for him makes him look down a bit on his classmates. He can't understand why everyone else seems to be struggling and failing when it all comes so easily to him.

The first few chapters I want to spend setting up the academy and Ernest's interactions with it. Chapter 1 has Ernest arriving back at the academy after summer break to find that the headmaster still has not returned. He's been missing for three years now after a mysterious happening at his tower. Here we are also introduced to the interim headmaster, Alder Stately, and the mysterious new Professor Marwyn.

Chapter 2 introduces us to Ernest's friend Viola Tillman and Ernest's observatory space. It's not really his, but he has picked up enough of a reputation at the academy that most people just sort of leave it for Ernest. This chapter will be used to introduce some of the basics of the magic system as well. We'll see Ernest doing some Astronomy(TM).

In the next few chapters, I want to spend some time establishing the school and the magic system. The big problem will be hooking the audience - I need to drop some clues as to Elrick's (the headmaster) whereabouts. I think I will have Ernest overhearing chatter or have Viola drop some gossip, or something. Eventually, Ernest will demand to see the headmaster, and Elrick will reveal himself as having been mostly fine over the past three years. He's just been desperately trying to find out more about what happened to him - which was, of course, contact from an Old God residing deep in the center of a black hole. Elrick was given an inadvertent gift. Just as the planets are great sources of arcane power for the scholars of Solas Realt, this Old God was drawn on for power accidentally. This resulted in Elrick experiencing the first instance of blood magic ever recorded.

So, once Ernest and Elrick get in contact, they both make efforts to understand and control this new magic. It will go poorly for Elrick and he will be transformed into the primary villain of the novel. Somehow. This is subject to change.

Anyway, more blog posts forthcoming. I'll try to stick to a roughly weekly upload schedule so that I can continue to organize my thoughts and think through the structure of the novel.

I need feedback. If you, by chance, find this post, read the whole thing, and decide you want to rip me a new one and call my ideas stupid, I completely encourage you to do so. I need everything.
