Listen/purchase: A Little Bit Lost But Not Too Worried About It by Søl Søp
Todays an exciting day for me. I'm finally releasing Søl Søp Twø; "A Little Bit Lost But Not Too Worried About It." Søl Søp Twø is my second set of studio quality recordings and to me it represents a certain stage in my developement not only as an artist but as a man. I'm 29 now and living out a relatively happy and peaceful existance these days in a sunny loft space in Bedstuy, Brooklyn with my wife and our dog, but it was a long road to get here, and that road was frought with all the typical tumults of youth; Heartbreak, social anxiety, betrayel, drug abuse, you fucking name it. Lots of people deal with that shit, and not everyones lucky enough to get over it at such a young age- but thank God, I am that lucky. Even as a 23 year old, cross-faded and vomiting off the stoop at the apartment building of a friend of a friend at 2am while waiting for a car to come and scoop me up (all I can say about that and so many similar occurances is that 1. I'm glad I grew up in an era where getting delivered home after too many drinks was as easy as slurring "hey Siri, cab!" and 2. It was never any ones fault but my own) I was thinking to myself "well this sucks- but I'm lucky it isnt any worse." But anyway, my point is these songs are kind of in my past, but I like them- I listen back to them and I wonder if there isnt someone who can relate and who might get helped by hearing that someone else was as fucked up as them. The same way I was guided and therapized by the Pixies, Brand New, Bright Eyes, Regina Spektor, and Titus Andronicus (and frankly the list goes on). So thats about the size of it! Søl Søp Twø! Enjoy it, or if its not your thing try and pass it along to someone who might be into it for me, thanks and God bless.

“Every month there’s one day on the calendar, you’ll see the full moon and it’ll be shining brightly, but lately in Brooklyn it’s been awfully cloudy- my minds tired of waiting, c’mon and catch up, body- and fate can be fuzzy, reality seems foggy. This whole world seems pretty fucked up but some people remain lovely.”

Truly celestial, right?

I'm out here spreading the good word on Søl Søp cos I'm the only one who knows! I wrote this at a time when lots of things were going on in my life that I was trying to get a handle on. I was (and still am) living in Brooklyn at the time, but and it seemed like a lot of my best friends were moving away. On top of that, my cousin had just passed away and he was just too damn young for that to happen. Of course, a lot of the song is about how you're never really too young to die, and how you've just gotta figure out how best to spend your time while your here because we'll all inevitably shuffle off this mortal coil sometime. the lyrics are: Try to find out what you believe in. Theres no rush, no I dont see a reason to stifle thoughts. To everything theres a season. I'll try a new idea now and again but, follow your heart because time is fleeting and one day your heart will stop beating. We should practice breathing slower/ Breathe so slowly that the air tickles your molars/ maybe we can squeeze our lifetimes longer/ like some yellow citrus fruit/ trust me, cousin- I wish the point were not moot yet/ you tried to last as long as you could/ We can buzz 'round like bumble bees/ just so long as we stil savor our honey/ and if we save up enough of our money/ maybe we can build a bigger hive/ or we could bunk up in an old oak tree at the edge of the forest overlooking the meadow/ every morning watch the sunrise for free/ and in the evening, in the moons glow, we'll play games with our shadows/ Down by the lake we'll stare up at the sky/ theres ripples on the surface where the fish are kissing flies/ and I see a little twinkle in the corner of your eye/ as a comet flies by and throws a streak accross the sky/ Theres lights in your eyes and theres lights in mine too/ theres lights all accross the sky- look at the stars and the moon/ and lately I'm not so sure that they're not all the same light/ In fact I'm pretty sure that they are all the same light/ yeah I'm pretty sure that they are all the same stimuli/ And no matter what you believe in one day your heart will stop beating/ And no one knows if theres really someone watching but you should watch yourself

Seaweed Salt! This song is 5 or 6 years old, but it is gonna be on the upcoming Søl Søp 3 record which so far I'm thinking about calling "the Suds" The lyrics are; My voice is faceless/ and my claims are baseless/ my nerves are loose lips/ telling you makes me nervous your lips, they are all smeared in black/ you're making me hungry/ you're never unstuck/ lingering in my periphery excuse my scattered attempts at upheaval/ any projected innocence is merely masking my evil/ long black hair gets greasy and tangled who cares I can't distinguish last night from a stirred up stocking full of seagulls/ but i washoping for a taste of flesh like seaweed salt/ and I was wondering if I wiped the mascara off your cheek/ if maybe we could take a walk down to the ocean/ bottle up seafoam and lable it with your name we could tie it with ribbons of long black hair greasy and tangled, who cares? Not me. Dont care about the way that I though it was going or the way it ended up being. Not all those lyrics are there in this recording, but I literally rolled outta bed in the morning and recorded this song after a pretty rough night- its a story thats grown and changed a little bit in the retelling

I know this is my song, that I wrote, and yadda yadda yadda, but I love it. It feels so nice to play, it feels so nice to sing ( and both are super easy to do which is very relaxing live). I wrote this song a couple years back... maybe like two and a half years ago or something (I remember because I'm halfway through my current lease- and I wrote this song in the apartment before my last apartment) after a solid few months of not playing guitar or performing or singing or writing or anything like that. Thats where the simplicity comes from likely- two chords throughout. Anyway, This song is about growing up and dealing with the passage of time in a way. It's also about synchronicity in a literal sense... trying to figure out what to make of the signs the universe is sending your way.Do we know what synchronicity is? It's kind of an out there concept for most people and its definitely woo. the dictionary definition is "the simultaneous occurrence of events which appear significantly related but have no discernible causal connection." But There are those of us who believe the nature of causality is something to be delve further into. We have questions, and this 3 dimensional world maybe cant even provide the answers. I fuck with meditation and lucid dreaming and have for a lot of my life- I definitely consider one of my principle identifiers to be that of the onieronaut and it's not something many folks know about me. Theres that old cliche, fuckingno one wants to hear about your dreams! Well, I do haha. When I was growing up, my mom always had one dream interpreting dictionary or another- and she would sit with me in the mornings over breakfast or tea or whatever and we'd talk about our dreams and we'd talk about the embedded symbolism therein. Is it redundant to say "embedded therein?" Whatever, who cares? Heres some lyrics: all seeing eye/ i could just die/ thinking of these symbols that are swirling around me and / I'm running outta time/ everynight when I dream/ and I try to levitate/ when I'm awake the closest I get is my skateboard/ I'm already bored/ though we're just getting started/ it seems like only yesterday we were still children/ Yeah we're all still children but we get a little bigger/ Some of us are still children but we get a little taller/ we all start out as children but we get a little smarter I hope/ and stronger yeah I guess/ and when the springtime rolls around maybe you might/ wanna wear a dress/ and they might laugh, but I must confess/ that I'm in love with floral prints/ I wanna feel a breeze on my bare-ass/ Have you ever seen a total eclipse?/ I remember one that had me down on my knees/ every month theres a day on the calendar/ when you'll see the moon is full, shining brightly/ but lately in Brooklyn, it's been awfully cloudy/ my mind's tired of waitin' c'mon and catch up, body/ and fate can be fuzzy, rality seems foggy/ this whole wolrd can seem fucked up but some people are really lovely.

Lost the Flow! This song is gonna be in the next album we record, Søl Søp 3; "the Suds" It's another song thats a little different now than it used to be- or how it is in this recording... Anyway this song is about the way sometimes you're in the groove and sometimes you're not. The whole universe is a groove, the way energy flows. Ancient cultures are tapped way into that notion, and plenty of people still are- it's just behind the curtain. Anyway this song is about not only losing the flow of things, but knowing you've lost the flow and then finding it again- whether intentionally or inadvertantly. It's also about losing touch with people but how that's ok because everybodys got their own shit going on, or as it is in vogue now to say "just cos I don't fuck with you don't mean I don't fuck with you" I LOST THE FLOW/ IM FLOUNDERING BUT I STILL GLOW/ YEAH ALL MY FRIENDS ARE CAUGHT UP IN THE UNDERTOW, THE UNDERTOW/ UNDER THE SEA I CANT SEE THREE FEET IN FRONT OF ME/ THERES NO CROW DOWN HERE SO I'LL SETTLE FOR SQUID-BEAK TO EAT/ SHE SAID "IF I'M A FREAK, THEN YOU'RE A FREAK" I LOST THE FLOW BUT THATS OK I FOUND IT/ IT WAS IN THE ZIPPERED BREAST POCKET OF MY LEATHER JACKET/ HANGING IN THE BACK OF MY CLOSET FOR OVER A YEAR/ I COULD'NT HAVE SEEN THE FLOW BEFORE I FELT IT/ STASHED WITH SOME LOOSE CASH AND SEVEN SLASHED BROWN SUGAR PACKETS/ SO THATS WHY MY HANDS ARE STICKY, SWEET, SLOW LIKE MOLLASSES, MY DEAR/ I LOST THE FLOW/ I'M AN ANGLER FISH IN A CATHEDRAL/ THERE IS NO GRAVITY HERE SO I SLEEP UPSIDE DOWN 'NEATH THE STEEPLE/ AND IF YOU NEED A LIGHT/ THERES ONE WITHIN ME/ I SAY MY PRAYERS EVERY NIGHT/ ALWAYS GET SAVED BY THE SKIN OF MY TEETH/ I LOST SOME FRIENDS, MORE LIKE I LOST TRACK OF THEM/ IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME AND THERES NO BAD BLOOD/ ITS JUST THAT LIFE GETS IN THE WAY BUT HEY/ I GUESS WE'RE ALL ON THE MEND/ I LOST THE FLOW BUT THATS UNREMARKABLE/ IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME/ AND IF YOU HAVENT HEARD ILL GLADLY TELL YA/ HAVING GOTTEN HOLD OF THE FLOW EVEN ONCE IS LIKE GOLD

Angel Olsen is so cool, and her simple chord progressions are really inspirational to me. Covering this song helps me to elevate my vocals to another level. Now HOW DO I KEEP THEM THERE? I'm sure I don't know, but pretty soon my friend Rachel Karmel as gonna start giving me voice lessons! And so maybe the effects of that will possibly be audible on Søl Søp 3 or 4- it certainly depends on how soon we can get going. Anyway, heres a cover I did of a beautiful Angel Olsen songcalled unfucktheworld, I hope you enjoy the fuzzed out lofi twist and loud screaming vocals I threw in there basically because thats just what happens when I try and sing loudly!
