Books Tag Game
Thank you for the tag @littleragondin! I've actually been reading books again these past few weeks so I have answers now lol
Tumblr media
hardcover or *paperback* (i am but a weak little woman and those hardcovers are heavy) // bookstore or *library* (probably I would usually say bookstore but I was going to many different libraries to study at towards the end of the semester) // standalone or *series* (really depends on my mood, but the most recent books were a series) // nonfiction or *fiction* (fiction is an indulgence, and while I'm interested in a lot of non-fiction, reading it usually feels more like work) // thriller or *fantasy* (I've never been into scary stuff) // under 300 pages or *over 300 pages* (otherwise it goes by too quickly!) // children's or *ya* (i have not connected with the YA I've read in recent years but at times I have devoured it) // friends to lovers or *enemies to lovers* (there are some amazing friends-to-lovers I adore, but I'm compelled by even mediocre enemies-to-lovers) // *read in bed* or read on the couch (either but recently it's been all in bed) // *read at night* or read in the morning (through the night and into the next morning) // *keep pristine* or markup (I don't try to actually keep books pristine, but I also never bother to mark up anything but textbooks) // *cracked spine* or dog ear (historically I read most books on one sitting, but if not I'd just search for the page again/use a random receipt as a bookmark)
Currently Reading:
I'm not in the middle of anything, but I've read more in recent weeks than I have in a long time. (Well, technically I'm in the middle of Solomon's Ransom by Corey Kerr, because I read the sample and now am waiting for the book to be released in a few weeks.)
Several months ago I got from the (physical!) library a (physical!) copy of She Who Became the Sun by Shelly Parker-Chan, and I finally finished after the semester ended, and then found an ebook of the sequel, He Who Drowned the World. (Compelling, though I think the ambitiousness of the project inevitably meant that parts of it didn't quite work.)
Then I read a bunch of romance ebooks, and even found a m/f one that I liked! Jodi McAlister's Not Here To Make Friends. (It was also the reality dating show romance I had been low-key hoping would exist.)
I also read RF Kuang's Babel: An Arcane History (which I appreciated and was provoked by, but didn't exactly love), and then read that she was inspired by/responding to Donna Tartt's The Secret History, so I reread that. (When I read it years ago my reaction was, I'm too old for this. It felt like a book you need to read in your teens or early twenties to get swept up into. My thoughts this go around were pretty much the same.) Then Kuang's Yellowface, which was also compelling.
Speaking of enemies to lovers, quite enjoyed The Sorcerer's Omega, also by Corey Kerr, which is why I'm awaiting her latest release. (The other two books in that world are also good, just not catnip for my tastes in the same way.)
And your post reminded me—I too read Love in the Big City, which was good and also unsettling in that way of most autobiographical novels about the authors fucked up twenties. Now I can go and unblock the tag and see all the fascinating discussions y'all had in your book club.
I have no idea how they'll manage to turn it into a BL (which is what I think I read is happening?). Although it's about relationships it's very much not a romance. Are they just pulling out some random plot points and building a whole new story around them? I hope they don't try to smush it into BL shape at all, and just tell the narrator's melancholy story as written.
(Oh, technically I'm in the middle of Mari Kondo's The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up, but I'm not sure if I'll read any more. Other people's advice can be counterproductive at times.)
(Most most recently was a bunch of Untamed and Drarry fanfic, but I'm not counting that.)
I'm not sure who's done this already, but I'll tag @lelephantsnail, @petrichoraline and @tungtung-thanawat.

I would watch a movie or show and as soon as I see a hot character I immediately look them 🤭🙏
Normal people: look up an actor to see what other shows they've been in
Me: sees a hot character and immediately researches for fanfiction about them
It's an instinct now.

More JJBA Batman AU 🦇
Risotto as Deathstroke? (He’s an assassin after all)
Ghiaccio is Mister Freeze (I honestly cry for Mister Freeze because he’s doing all his crimes out of love to cure his sick wife)
Either Prosciutto or Sports Maxx works as Solomon Grundy (And he just keeps coming back from the grave) to be honest I don’t really understand this villain too well except he pulls a Jason Voorhees and keeps coming back (Maybe Prosciutto since I’m more familiar with him that Sports Maxx)
Cioccolata honestly fits being Scarecrow because of his cruel experiments he puts on people and had a rivalry with Darling (Though it was one-sided as Darling thought something was very off about Cioccolata as she found his tests on the inmates too ‘cruel’ and was the one who reported and got him fired after she found out what he’s been really doing to the inmates)
You know what? Drama between Darling and Cioccolata would make it interesting as he put at hit on Darling and now she has to hide and gets in witness protection until Cioccolata is found and taken into custody (Darling only wanted to help the inmates get better while Cioccolata only saw the inmates as mere Guinea Pigs for his experiments) so the Joestars allow her to live in their manor to protect her until Cioccolata is put into custody (Meaning she can’t work or do her job until he’s caught which upsets her patients as they’re very angry not seeing their Therapist)
Kira is either the Riddler or Mad Hatter (He’s very delusional thinking he could have a ‘normal’ life since he’s a serial killer so maybe Mad Hatter works?) He’s trying to look for his ‘Alice’ and has been on a murder spree, with his latest victims almost being Shinobu and Hayato but the Joestars as Batman was able to stop him before it was too late as they’re blissfully unaware of the horror of Kira
Esidesi is Clayface (He could be a model/actor if you want because all the Pillarmen are stupid pretty) but could only score in B Horror Films and starting taking a special experimental cream from a shady company that promised him Stardom as it can allow him to reshape his face and appearance (They’re willing to give him the stuff but he has to pull a few crimes for them) only to become addicted to the stuff until an accident where his whole body was submerged and mutated from the stuff into a shapeshifting monstrosity known as ‘Clayface’ (He and Kars are friends)
Santana is Killer Croc (I thought Killer Croc would work with Santana because he appears more animalistic and primitive compared to his fellow Pillarmen in both speech and behavior) but he and Esidisi can switch if you want because Santana as Clayface sounds fine too
This list might be wrong (I haven’t seen Batman in a long time plus it’s kinda hard figuring out who fits where) so you can definitely change these if you want (I was having such a hard time figuring out for the other La Squadra characters)
Tumblr media
Yep Risotto is definitely deathstroke. Perhaps darling gets caught up in a feud with the Joestars and he's called to kidnap and hold her for a ransom on behalf of someone else. Not his usual job but the pay is good and his schedule's light. They do have a brief talk and she tells him if he ends up in the asylum to put her down as his psych. He's a little weirded out, is she flirting or really wants to dig at him.
Jonathan is horrified by the ransom and is about to pay it before Joesph stops him and opens up another tab with a tracker he put in her purse. He knows she never goes anywhere without it and sure enough they know where it is.
Of course Jonathan asks why he'd done so in the first place.
"This was bound to happen eventually, no harm in preparing" he tells him.
Ghiaccio has been doing everything he can to save his loved ones life (could be a partner or a close relative) he's lost everything in his pursuit of finding a cure and has turned to crime to sustain his research.
Tumblr media
Eventually he's caught and is extremely aggressive. He can't get locked up, not when he's so close to a cure.
He confrontational but when darling is able to figure out what's going on she tries to offer him help when she can. Gets that loved one visitation rights and eventually when they do die she's able to get him a livestream of the funeral.
It sucks but he understands that that was the best she could do, she didn't even need to do that at all but she did. She's helping him process all of this, seems to be the only one who really understands him now.
[Bitch (me) has not made a Cioccolata banner yet]
I don't really know much about Maxx so I'll probably but Prosciutto (or Prosciutto could be the Penguin so I'll cover that in the next ask. I just think it suits his sharp and sophisticated personality)
Scarecrow Cioccolata works to well, he was the asylums most valuable worker until the reforms under Jonathan's request. Then darling came along. His methods were a lot more experimental, he got the information he wanted but it was of haphazard quality compared to hers. He has the knowledge but lacks the compassion. Of course when she finds out all the horrible things he's done she reports him and he gets fired and investigated. He ends up going missing, everyone assumes he ran away before he could get charged with anything.
Then she gets a package at her door. It releases a gas and she begins to have horrible hallucinations. Eventually she comes back to in the police station. Turn out the package had a letter too from Cioccolata basically threatening her life. Joesph was actually the one to bring her in after he saw her it that state when he came over to visit, he's covered in bruises and scratches but assures her he knows she didn't mean too.
He offers to help her grab her stuff and let her stay at the mansion until he's caught. His brother's aren't going to mind and there's alot of space.
Melone would be the riddler or clue master... leaning towards riddler. He actually has some personal history with darling. When talking with Ceaser she spots a piece of evidence he was going over and recognizes the hand writing, she tells him to come to hers. When they arrive she grabs out a pretty box, it's her high-school time capsule. She wasn't meant to open it til the ten year reunion but she's opening it now. Grabs out her yearbook and a letter. Turns out Melone is her high school ex. He was kind of a weirdo in high school and she would never have dated him if she had the confidence she has now back then. She cringes at seeing their prom photos.
Tumblr media
Melone assumed she'd left after university like she said she would back in high school. If she gets caught up in one of his operations he's definitely going to take the time to talk with her. After all, she's the one who got away.
Tumblr media
Ok so I don't know a whole lot about mad hatter but I'm going to try my best. Kira has tried every thing he possibly could to keep his urges in check, including some alternative forms of therapy but nothing worked.
Eventually he deludes himself into believing he's the normal one, everyone else is crazy and he needs to fix that. He's learnt a lot about hypnosis from his past and intends to use that knowledge to fix things.
He's caught after his recent attempted murder, brought into the asylum and darling is asigned to him. He's labeled as a low threat and no one really knows about his hypnosis thing yet. The moment he sees her he knows she's the one and his "thoughts" become very evident to darling. She's immediately out and refuses to work with him, but unfortunately he's only cooperating with her.
Tumblr media
Esidisi as clayface works, he can only keep a certain shape for a limited about of time before he melts back into his regular form. He's a real smooth talker. I think Kars would end up breaking him, Wammu and Saitana. Convinces them of his cause, after all they're all proof of man's willingness to mangle the natural order.

❦ - The Shifting Tides: NEW WIP INTRO
Tumblr media
We fight for a future we ourselves cannot see.
❝ Blood spills at the drop of a hat. Lives are taken every day. It’s up to you to decide whether or not you want to fight, or be devoured. ❞
Cursed by the blood of a goddess, Saran Turakina has known a life of being less-than-human. His people are holindal, once regular humans now given the ability to shapeshift into draconic forms. To improve relationships with the Kingdom of Askana, Saran’s grandfather has arranged a marriage with their prince. While on a seaward journey to meet his future husband, Saran’s boat is intercepted by pirates, and he’s taken prisoner for a ransom.
On a ship far from home, and with only his two closest friends for company, Saran is forced to come face to face with the pirate king: Viridian Kambiri, captain of the Howling Wolf and charming leader of the Wildlings.
As Saran traverses the maze of secrets and betrayals that fester beneath Askana, it doesn’t take him to realize there’s more to the oppression and hatred towards the holindal diaspora than the monarchy is letting onto. And the secrets they hide is one he must bring to the light. But if violence is the only way of stopping them, then does that not make Saran a murderer, like them?
And if so, how will he stop them without losing his soul in the process?
More info below the cut.

❧General Information
A series that has been on my mind for at least five years. The current version of this draft started in 2020 during COVID, although I’ve had this idea in mind since early 2018 at least. It’s currently taken some inspiration from We Hunt the Flame, The Tiger at Midnight, and Beasts of Prey, although it has evolved into its own story at this point.
I consider it somewhere between Young Adult and New Adult in terms of ratings: most content is aimed towards a 16+ audience. I consider the genre a low/mid-fantasy romance. There’s a bit of extensive worldbuilding, but canonically the series takes place in an alternate universe where the meteor that killed the dinosaurs ended up being imbued in magic. Said magic spread through the earth, and is what eventually caused the holindal mutation. In addition, this Earth has a ring system of a similar intensity to Neptune, caused by the colliding of Theia. If I have to describe the aesthetic, it is an Afro-Victorian world on the cusp of its own industrial revolution.
❧Featuring
The tropes of idiots to friends to lovers, found family, secret royalty.
Themes of coming of age, trauma recovery, rebellion and war, self-discovery, sins of the father, and the deconstruction of “if you kill them, you’ll be just like them”.
A transmasculine and vincian MC. A bisexual MC. A queerplatonic relationship between three major characters, one of the MCs included. An aro/ace major character.
A cast made up of entirely dark-skinned characters.
❧Trigger Warnings
Typical fantasy violence
Blood and gore
Childhood abuse
Physical and mental abuse/trauma
Panic and anxiety attacks
Queerphobia
Racism and xenophobia
Sexism

DAILY SCRIPTURE READINGS (DSR) 📚 Group, Fri Sept 27th, 2024 ... Friday of the Twenty-fifth Week in Ordinary Time, Year B/Memorial of Saint Vincent de Paul, Priest
Reading 1
----------
Eccl 3:1-11
There is an appointed time for everything,
and a time for every thing under the heavens.
A time to be born, and a time to die;
a time to plant, and a time to uproot the plant.
A time to kill, and a time to heal;
a time to tear down, and a time to build.
A time to weep, and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn, and a time to dance.
A time to scatter stones, and a time to gather them;
a time to embrace, and a time to be far from embraces.
A time to seek, and a time to lose;
a time to keep, and a time to cast away.
A time to rend, and a time to sew;
a time to be silent, and a time to speak.
A time to love, and a time to hate;
a time of war, and a time of peace.
What advantage has the worker from his toil?
I have considered the task that God has appointed
for the sons of men to be busied about.
He has made everything appropriate to its time,
and has put the timeless into their hearts,
without man’s ever discovering,
from beginning to end, the work which God has done.
Responsorial Psalm
----------------
Ps 144:1b and 2abc, 3-4
R. (1) Blessed be the Lord, my Rock!
Blessed be the LORD, my rock,
my mercy and my fortress,
my stronghold, my deliverer,
My shield, in whom I trust.
R. Blessed be the Lord, my Rock!
LORD, what is man, that you notice him;
the son of man, that you take thought of him?
Man is like a breath;
his days, like a passing shadow.
R. Blessed be the Lord, my Rock!
Alleluia
--------
Mk 10:45
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
The Son of Man came to serve
and to give his life as a ransom for many.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
Gospel
--------
Lk 9:18-22
Once when Jesus was praying in solitude,
and the disciples were with him,
he asked them, “Who do the crowds say that I am?”
They said in reply, “John the Baptist; others, Elijah;
still others, ‘One of the ancient prophets has arisen.’”
Then he said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
Peter said in reply, “The Christ of God.”
He rebuked them and directed them not to tell this to anyone.
He said, “The Son of Man must suffer greatly
and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes,
and be killed and on the third day be raised.”

FOCUS AND LITURGY OF THE WORD
God’s timing is so incredibly perfect.  His touch on each of our lives each and every day is so constant and profound that we typically do not even notice it.  Of all the people on earth, I find it beyond comprehension that my God who created everything could be constantly involved in my simple, personal life.  I fail miserably in trying to understand how this could be, and yet it is true !
Today’s first Reading from Ecclesiastes comforts me, for I am clearly not alone in the wonder of God’s role in my individual life.  Here Solomon points out that literally every single aspect of our lives follows an appointed time, a plan orchestrated by our God.  A plan in which there is a specific time for everything that makes up our life.  As Solomon began to see the bigger picture, it troubled him as he tried to make sense of life.  This is not only surprising, but perhaps shocking.  It was obvious that Solomon had a relationship with God his entire life, so how could he become so disillusioned.
This is where it hits close to home for us all today.  We easily become disillusioned with our lives.  Society around us seems to be spiraling out of control and there always seems to be so much that simply makes no sense.  Of course this all points us to the futility of thinking we are in control, but like King Solomon, we easily forget who is really involved in and is in complete control of every moment of our lives.
In chapter 3 of Ecclesiastes, Solomon shares his wise conclusion – the fact that God has indeed laid out the exact time frame and series of events for our lives.  We do not live a life of random occurrences, but rather our lives follow a specific plan – an appointed time - orchestrated by our amazing God.  Not only are birth and death planned in advance, but likewise literally everything else we experience throughout our lives is appointed by God.
So what are we to make of all this?  Solomon struggled with the question of “what is our life supposed to be all about?”  He came to the only conclusion that makes any sense at all.  It is God who is in complete control. We can never fathom how this all works simply because our God is beyond anything that we could ever grasp.  Solomon concludes in verse eleven “He has made everything beautiful in its time.  He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.”
Our Responsorial Psalm takes us to the logical and comforting conclusion to these facts.  The Lord is truly our rock.  He is our fortress, our stronghold, our deliverer and our shield.  Even though we are only one of billions of individuals He has created, we can indeed place our total trust in God.  He is fully capable of knowing each of us individually and is involved in the details of each of our lives.  A fact that is truly beyond comprehension and yet so very comforting !  This fact encourages us to boldly use this time in each of our lives to live for our Lord and Savior while we work to point others to Jesus.
Both today’s Alleluia in Mark and the Gospel in Luke point to the absolute fact that Jesus is our eternal Lord and Savior.  A fact that we pray everyone will truly embraces.
Let's pray ...
Dear Heavenly Father,  help us to find eternal peace with the fact that we will never be able to fully grasp the magnitude of who You are.  Help us to remain forever grateful that You are fully engaged in every moment of our lives.  Help us to keep our eyes constantly upon You so that Your love may effectively flow through us, enabling our lives to point to You and You alone. In the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ. Amen

SAINT OF THE DAY
Saint Vincent de Paul
(1580 – September 27, 1660)
Saint Vincent de Paul’s Story
The deathbed confession of a dying servant opened Vincent de Paul’s eyes to the crying spiritual needs of the peasantry of France. This seems to have been a crucial moment in the life of the man from a small farm in Gascony, France, who had become a priest with little more ambition than to have a comfortable life.
The Countess de Gondi—whose servant he had helped—persuaded her husband to endow and support a group of able and zealous missionaries who would work among poor tenant farmers and country people in general. Vincent was too humble to accept leadership at first, but after working for some time in Paris among imprisoned galley slaves, he returned to be the leader of what is now known as the Congregation of the Mission, or the Vincentians. These priests, with vows of poverty, chastity, obedience, and stability, were to devote themselves entirely to the people in smaller towns and villages.
Later, Vincent established confraternities of charity for the spiritual and physical relief of the poor and sick of each parish. From these, with the help of Saint Louise de Marillac, came the Daughters of Charity, “whose convent is the sickroom, whose chapel is the parish church, whose cloister is the streets of the city.” He organized the rich women of Paris to collect funds for his missionary projects, founded several hospitals, collected relief funds for the victims of war, and ransomed over 1,200 galley slaves from North Africa. He was zealous in conducting retreats for clergy at a time when there was great laxity, abuse, and ignorance among them. He was a pioneer in clerical training and was instrumental in establishing seminaries.
Most remarkably, Vincent was by temperament a very irascible person—even his friends admitted it. He said that except for the grace of God he would have been “hard and repulsive, rough and cross.” But he became a tender and affectionate man, very sensitive to the needs of others.
Pope Leo XIII made him the patron of all charitable societies. Outstanding among these, of course, is the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, founded in 1833 by his admirer Blessed Frédéric Ozanam.
Reflection
-----------
The Church is for all God’s children, rich and poor, peasants and scholars, the sophisticated and the simple. But obviously the greatest concern of the Church must be for those who need the most help—those made helpless by sickness, poverty, ignorance, or cruelty. Vincent de Paul is a particularly appropriate patron for all Christians today, when hunger has become starvation, and the high living of the rich stands in more and more glaring contrast to the physical and moral degradation in which many of God’s children are forced to live.
Saint Vincent de Paul is the Patron Saint of:
Charitable Societies

Do your friends ever disappointed you?
What make you interested in YB fandom?
What is your current mood?
Can I know which ship you like the most?
It's a long doozy xD
It happens. Can't truly blame them as they have their own things going on behind-the-scenes and I do have my moments where I'm like that to them. Same with family members, but that's a different story! xD
Thinking about it now that I'm in a calmer state, I really do want them to live well. Some aren't really bad people, even if I no longer see us getting along. I don't have the energy to hold grudges, nor do I to think about different scenarios of what could have been if things were different. It'd make me miserable and it impacts my productivity, including the ones that are necessary for my livelihood lol. With my asocial personality, it's already expected that I won't have long-term friends, so I really appreciate those who stuck by when they do.
It's very stupid lol. My last fandom before this one was Genshin Impact, and I was on that hoe for at least a year and counting, especially when coping during quarantine was not fun. I don't even get a long hiatus from work as I was "an essential worker". Compared to the YB fandom, I spent a king's ransom to get primogems and the merchandise. I used to play it every waking morning, and late at night. Then one day, I started to feel burnt out from all the grinding and the rewards no longer seem to match the difficulty. The twitter outrage and toxicity over the 1st year anniversary was the breaking point out of my obsession.
I was then on a lookout for new interest, watching ManlyBadassery videos when his gameplay of YB was recommended on my YT thumbnail feed. I gave it a watch, and thought it was an interesting concept, as I think it's the first time to that I got interested into stickman designs. What dragged me into the pit was the fan videos of the gray stickman. I thought it was very ridiculous to see peeps simping over a gray stickman like he was so sexyy, ... until I rejoined Twitter on my hardly-used nsfw account to see the fan art. They really sold me on him xD.
I started drawing him because I couldn't be on that inside jokes and memes others had made when I couldn't play the game at the time. Even if the fandom was no longer the same as it was in the beginning and I did play the game , but didn't match with my expectations (this version had its voice acting taken out), and its other issues, I really couldn't help but still find inspiration to draw for the characters as it did have its positives. It helped me in my toughest times and I want to repay that as I mentioned every now and then. Though don't get it twisted, I'm very much drawing for myself too so I can get the content I want, and life is short. It's been getting harder to get over each one, and since anything can happen, I'm preparing myself either way! People can block me if they don't like me or what I draw! I'm encouraging it, actually-- firm believer of getting along in separate rooms!
Current mood: Achieving a sense of peace within myself. It can't be helped for the way the world works, so I wanna learn to handle the challenges and the people ahead.
For YB? Y/N with any of the characters, Polyship of YNxLucyxVio, and Roy x Lucy ♥️ For Past ships. to name a few : Aether x Xiao (GI), Zero x Yuki (vampire knight), Gajeel x Levi (FairyTail), Saya x Solomon (Blood +)...
Thanks for asking and have a good one ^^ <33

Early days of July, heatwave membraned  the city, Aura and Zephyr lockjawed  and left the girl looking a mouldered grey. Only the wind of expiation blows, or at least attempts to smooth our rafters.  Still, ardour conspires with every breath and makes my voice a giant scallop shell, scoffed with apologies and songs. Hear me out: I am as faithful as a coral reef.  A behemoth backfires in Eden and sets off total colony collapse. Hell seems happier. Well, hell, go to hell then! Easy: hell is in the air outside.  I will stay, resuscitate our hive  with what I know of work: transparent words next to transparent words, ransomed for love, the sake of love, fresh, renewed, startled back into place by a breathless, heavy blow from my hautboy. Gold tremble off my lips.  We are way out beyond limits now. Too  far for tears, except the sun brings them on. It is me. Taken by paranoid seizure, weeping at the dark deluxe of the sun like an actor or a Rasta, chanting:   Paradise once, paradise once again! But this is rose-pink Florence, infernal  as ever, interred by the living light we have half blocked out with half drawn shutters to make the ecliptic line visible, so even here we may be “unalarmed by the vicissitudes of the future.” Now that’s viva luce. Casual rapture.  Surety and fidelity are terms, on pain of death, not to be avoided.   Pop a paxlovid, beloved, read this as I tell you that I am the Seraph  Abdiel, indignant before the devil.  Do you feel weak in body or mind?  In spirit? Well, that was unexpected.  My angelic recommendations are  cold baths and the movies of Gene Tierney.  Abdiel I said? Let me now abdicate  from that tower, for my mind is constant  changes, as now single in retorted  scorn for current major minor poets.  One must have a talent to unmask shades.  It is your savage gift, and mine, to conceal  openly berries from childhood forest,  our heads shawled like witches in the green, mosquitoes pitched partisans’ melodies, a half tropical bluff in my left ear. Solomon’s Mine flourished in my right ear.  You are as impatient as I am not.  Everything moves is firm philosophy.  But moves how? In a flagellum pattern? I can’t imagine that. Yet I can see furtive fern, under shadowed, move as such; as such, when I was a schoolboy, iron  filings straggled on my desk, ant or rain drawn, I supposed, by a phantom magnet.  I know now that it was the Holy Ghost.  You’ve called me a Christian fabulist  before, and I’ve played the clown, it’s true,  but only for your serious amusement, nightly pointing out the fading dog star.  I aim each morning to salute the sun.  What I call progress is antiquity  in reverse, the wheels off, transfigured light through the dark sky, flared; immolated; gone.  In Club Paradise, my father alone of all the extras had a speaking part.  A single phrase, a question, when he asked  got lost in his dreads. Heuristic technique you could say. Don’t laugh, he’s an amputee now, still delusional but on good pension. Flesh of my flesh, love. I cannot go far,  and I have gone far, and not hear my blood shriek  with the thought that all of this could be cut   by a second-string executioner. My heart rides at anchor telling you this.   My heart is riding at anchor to tell.

When Did Taxes Start in the Bible? A Historical Exploration
Tumblr media
Taxes, an essential element of modern life, have their origins deeply rooted in history. Interestingly, the concept of taxes is not a modern invention but can be traced back thousands of years. For those seeking to understand when taxes started in the Bible, we must look into both the Old and New Testaments. The Bible provides several references to taxation, revealing how taxes were implemented in ancient times, the reasons behind them, and the ways they were perceived by the people.
This article delves into the history of taxes in the Bible, exploring the cultural, religious, and political contexts that shaped the way taxes were levied and collected in biblical times. From the first taxes mentioned in the Old Testament to the debates about tribute in the New Testament, we will uncover how taxes were an integral part of society.
The First Mention of Taxes in the Bible: The Old Testament
The earliest biblical references to taxes appear in the Old Testament. These taxes were primarily used for religious, military, and societal purposes. Let's examine some key moments in the Old Testament where taxes were mentioned or implied.
The Tax for the Tabernacle (Exodus 30:11-16)
In the Book of Exodus, the first clear instance of taxation is found in the command to take a census of the Israelites and collect a "half-shekel" as a ransom for their lives. This money was used to support the maintenance of the Tabernacle (Exodus 30:11-16). The text reads:
“Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: When you take the census of the children of Israel for their number, then every man shall give a ransom for himself to the Lord, when you number them, that there may be no plague among them when you number them. This is what everyone among those who are numbered shall give: half a shekel according to the shekel of the sanctuary.”
This “tax” was not a standard levy, but rather a religious tax collected to maintain the sacred duties of the community. It highlights that the biblical concept of taxes was linked not only to governance but also to religious obligations.
The Tax for Building the Temple (1 Chronicles 22:2-4)
King David's preparations for the building of the Temple in Jerusalem also involved a tax. In 1 Chronicles 22:2-4, King David commanded the people to provide resources for the Temple's construction:
"So David commanded to gather the aliens who were in the land of Israel; and he appointed masons to hew stones to build the house of God."
While this specific passage doesn’t directly refer to taxes, the forced labor and contributions for the Temple indicate a form of taxation that extended beyond monetary value—showing how taxes in the Old Testament were often tied to large national or religious projects.
The Tribute System in the Old Testament: Taxes for Conquered Peoples
As the Israelites moved into the land of Canaan and established their kingdom, the concept of tribute, or taxes, became more prominent. Tributes were typically paid by conquered nations or vassal states as a symbol of submission to the ruling authority.
The Tribute to King Solomon (1 Kings 4:21-24)
King Solomon’s reign marks one of the most significant periods in biblical history concerning taxes. Solomon collected tribute from neighboring nations as part of his kingdom's wealth and governance. 1 Kings 4:21-24 states:
“Solomon ruled over all the kingdoms from the Euphrates River to the land of the Philistines, as far as the border of Egypt. These countries brought tribute and were Solomon's subjects all his life.”
This tribute system was not a tax on Israelites but on neighboring kingdoms, highlighting a common practice of taxing conquered peoples to maintain the wealth and security of the kingdom. Solomon’s accumulation of wealth, funded through these tributes, allowed him to build the Temple in Jerusalem and maintain a prosperous kingdom.
The Tax of the Northern Tribes (2 Samuel 20:24)
Under King David’s reign, taxes were also imposed on the northern tribes of Israel. In 2 Samuel 20:24, the Bible mentions a tax that was collected for the maintenance of the military, particularly in the northern territories. This passage indirectly references taxes that were paid to ensure the safety and stability of the kingdom.
Taxes in the New Testament: The Roman Influence
By the time of the New Testament, the land of Israel had come under Roman rule, and the taxation system had become more complex. The Romans used taxes as a means to control and finance their empire, and this is where the most famous biblical references to taxes can be found.
The Roman Census and Taxation (Luke 2:1-5)
In the New Testament, one of the most notable references to taxes is found in the story of the birth of Jesus. Luke 2:1-5 describes a decree from Caesar Augustus:
"In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria. And everyone went to their own town to register."
The Roman census was directly tied to taxation, as the purpose of the census was to assess the population for tax purposes. This event brought Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem, fulfilling the prophecy of Jesus’ birth. This passage illustrates how taxes, enforced by the Roman Empire, shaped the lives of ordinary people during the time of Jesus.
Tribute to Caesar (Matthew 22:15-22)
One of the most famous New Testament discussions on taxes is found in the conversation between Jesus and the Pharisees. They asked Jesus whether it was lawful to pay taxes to Caesar. In Matthew 22:15-22, Jesus replied:
"Give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's."
This statement addresses the relationship between civil obligations (such as taxes) and spiritual duties. Jesus’ response emphasized that while taxes were an inevitable part of life under Roman rule, they should not take precedence over one’s relationship with God. This passage is often cited in discussions about the separation of church and state.
The Temple Tax (Matthew 17:24-27)
Another significant taxation event in the New Testament involves the temple tax. In Matthew 17:24-27, the collectors of the temple tax approach Peter and ask whether Jesus pays the temple tax. Jesus responds by instructing Peter to catch a fish, in whose mouth he will find a coin to pay the tax:
"But so that we may not cause offense, go to the lake and throw out your line. Take the first fish you catch; open its mouth and you will find a four-drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for my tax and yours."
This story shows how the temple tax, similar to the half-shekel tax in Exodus, was a religious levy collected for the maintenance of the Jewish Temple. Jesus’ action here is seen as a teaching moment, showing that even though he was exempt from the tax as the Son of God, he chose to pay it to avoid causing scandal.
Why Were Taxes Important in the Bible?
Taxes in the Bible were essential for several reasons. They were used for religious purposes, such as maintaining the Temple and supporting priests. Taxes also helped fund military campaigns, provide for the poor, and ensure the stability of the kingdom. While the Bible does not always describe taxes in a straightforward way, it is clear that they were an integral part of society, used to sustain both religious and political structures.
The biblical view of taxes was largely shaped by the culture of the time. While there was a general sense that taxes were a necessary part of life, they were also a source of tension. The Israelites often resented foreign rulers imposing taxes, especially when they were seen as oppressive or unfair.
Conclusion: The Legacy of Biblical Taxation
So, when did taxes start in the Bible? The concept of taxation can be traced back to the early stories in the Old Testament, where taxes were primarily linked to religious duties and national stability. As the Israelites became a kingdom and were later ruled by foreign empires, taxes evolved into a more complex system, influencing both the economic and political spheres.
In the New Testament, taxes take on new significance under Roman rule, becoming a symbol of imperial control and raising questions about the intersection of spiritual and civic responsibilities. Jesus’ teachings about taxes challenge believers to consider their duties both to earthly rulers and to God.
Taxes, as mentioned in the Bible, provide an important lens through which we can understand ancient societies, their religious beliefs, and the ways in which governance and faith were intertwined. While the system of taxation in biblical times may differ from modern systems, its importance remains timeless.

Warnings Against Foolishness
1 My son, if thou be surety for thy friend, if thou hast stricken thy hand with a stranger,
2 Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth.
3 Do this now, my son, and deliver thyself, when thou art come into the hand of thy friend; go, humble thyself, and make sure thy friend.
4 Give not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids.
5 Deliver thyself as a roe from the hand of the hunter, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.
6 Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:
7 Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,
8 Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.
9 How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?
10 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:
11 So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.
12 A naughty person, a wicked man, walketh with a froward mouth.
13 He winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his fingers;
14 Frowardness is in his heart, he deviseth mischief continually; he soweth discord.
15 Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy.
16 These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,
19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.
20 My son, keep thy father's commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:
21 Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck.
22 When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.
23 For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:
24 To keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.
25 Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.
26 For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adultress will hunt for the precious life.
27 Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?
28 Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned?
29 So he that goeth in to his neighbour's wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent.
30 Men do not despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry;
31 But if he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house.
32 But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul.
33 A wound and dishonour shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away.
34 For jealousy is the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.
35 He will not regard any ransom; neither will he rest content, though thou givest many gifts. — Proverbs 6 | King James Version (KJV) The King James Version Bible is in the public domain Cross References: Genesis 4:15; Genesis 6:5; Genesis 39:8; Genesis 39:19; Exodus 20:17; Deuteronomy 6:8; Deuteronomy 7:25; Deuteronomy 19:10; 2 Chronicles 36:16; Job 15:12; Job 38:39; Psalm 27:12; Psalm 91:3; Psalm 140:2; Psalm 132:4; Proverbs 2:11-12; Proverbs 5:9-10; Proverbs 7:1; Proverbs 7:7; Proverbs 10:5; Proverbs 10:26; Proverbs 11:15; Proverbs 10:15; Proverbs 19:15; Proverbs 23:21; Proverbs 30:27; Song of Solomon 8:7; Jeremiah 26:15; Matthew 5:28; Romans 3:15; Ephesians 6:1

The Adventures of Dmitri Ransom, the world’s most powerful exorcist (retired) #1
Smelling brimstone, Dmitri threw open his daughter’s bedroom door.
“Papa!” Nearly teenaged Landrada Ransom screamed. “OMG! You can’t just come in without knocking!”
“I smelled…” Dmitri cut himself off, taking in the room. “Andrew’s scabs. The Third Key of Solomon?!” He scolded his daughter as he pointed at the intricately drawn circle of salt on her floor. In the center, a misshapen thing like a cross between a shaved cat and a capuchin with alopecia sat dripping with a liquid the consistency of honey and the odor of burning hair.
“Oh, futue vita mea!” The oozing, bald cat-monkey said. “You’re Dmitri Ransom! Domine, I swear I had no idea Moth knew your daughter. And, look, this wasn’t even my idea. A guy doesn’t end up in the Third Key of Solomon because he’s got nothing better to do.”
“Shut up.” Dmitri said and glared at his daughter and her friend, Moth, the only twelve-year-old he had ever met who wore black fishnets as a matter of course.
“Papa, this is my space!”
“You summoned a demon in my house!”
“He’s not a demon. He’s a familiar.”
Dmitri rubbed the bridge of his nose. “Demon is a species. Familiar is a job.” He took a breath. “And summoning a familiar is not better!”
“I bound him!” Landrada raised her shoulders as if she’d done something he had asked her to. “Peter’s left finger!”
“I can explain.” Said the demon.
“*You* can explain?” Dmitri wheeled on the creature.
“Domine, I understand why you’re angry. I was against this whole thing, too, but Moth’s mom, she’s the most powerful witch in the state. Like third in the country. You get it, someone like me, you don’t get sassy with a domina like that.”
“Moth has been talking to him for weeks.” Landrada insisted as Moth herself stared at the floor. “She wanted to summon him herself, but I wanted her to do it safely!”
“I wouldn’ta done nothing!” The demon protested, trying to grin innocently. “Look, domine, I’m not here to tell anyone how to parent. Not you, not Chelsea.” It gestured at the well-sigiled circle. “I’m just following the rules, here.”
Dmitri extended his right hand towards the demon: thumb out, index and middle upright and together, ring and pinkie curled.
“Please not Hebrew…please not Hebrew…” The demon muttered.
“Hypostrépe!” Dmitri commanded.
“Oh, grātiās agis, avāratia!” The demon said before vanishing, leaving the scent of za’atar.
“Moth,” Dmitri said. “I’m taking you home.”
She glared up at him from one electric pink and one powder blue eyelid. “I don’t take orders from patriarchs.”
“I’ve got multiple gallon jugs of holy water.” He hiked a thumb towards his office. “Would you prefer I before a banishing ceremony?”
“Ugh, fine, Goddess!” She said getting up and collecting her things.
“You want a juice box for the road? It’s organic and non-blessed.”
“I guess. Bye, Landie.”
“Bye, Moth.” Landrada said.
“You’re grounded.” Dmitri said before closing the door. He reopened it a moment later. “Your sigil work? A+, kiddo. I’m proud of you.”

4th April >> Mass Readings (Except USA)
Easter Thursday
(Liturgical Colour: White. Year: B(II))
First Reading Acts of the Apostles 3:11-26 You killed the prince of life: God, however, raised him from the dead.
Everyone came running towards Peter and John in great excitement, to the Portico of Solomon, as it is called, where the man was still clinging to Peter and John. When Peter saw the people he addressed them, ‘Why are you so surprised at this? Why are you staring at us as though we had made this man walk by our own power or holiness? You are Israelites, and it is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of our ancestors, who has glorified his servant Jesus, the same Jesus you handed over and then disowned in the presence of Pilate after Pilate had decided to release him. It was you who accused the Holy One, the Just One, you who demanded the reprieve of a murderer while you killed the prince of life. God, however, raised him from the dead, and to that fact we are the witnesses; and it is the name of Jesus which, through our faith in it, has brought back the strength of this man whom you see here and who is well known to you. It is faith in that name that has restored this man to health, as you can all see.
‘Now I know, brothers, that neither you nor your leaders had any idea what you were really doing; this was the way God carried out what he had foretold, when he said through all his prophets that his Christ would suffer. Now you must repent and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, and so that the Lord may send the time of comfort. Then he will send you the Christ he has predestined, that is Jesus, whom heaven must keep till the universal restoration comes which God proclaimed, speaking through his holy prophets. Moses, for example, said: The Lord God will raise up a prophet like myself for you, from among your own brothers; you must listen to whatever he tells you. The man who does not listen to that prophet is to be cut off from the people. In fact, all the prophets that have ever spoken, from Samuel onwards, have predicted these days.
‘You are the heirs of the prophets, the heirs of the covenant God made with our ancestors when he told Abraham: in your offspring all the families of the earth will be blessed. It was for you in the first place that God raised up his servant and sent him to bless you by turning every one of you from your wicked ways.’

Alleluia, alleluia! This day was made by the Lord: we rejoice and are glad. Alleluia!
Gospel Luke 24:35-48 It is written that the Christ would suffer and on the third day rise from the dead.
The disciples told their story of what had happened on the road and how they had recognised Jesus at the breaking of bread.
They were still talking about all this when Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, ‘Peace be with you!’ In a state of alarm and fright, they thought they were seeing a ghost. But he said, ‘Why are you so agitated, and why are these doubts rising in your hearts? Look at my hands and feet; yes, it is I indeed. Touch me and see for yourselves; a ghost has no flesh and bones as you can see I have.’ And as he said this he showed them his hands and feet. Their joy was so great that they still could not believe it, and they stood there dumbfounded; so he said to them, ‘Have you anything here to eat?’ And they offered him a piece of grilled fish, which he took and ate before their eyes.
Then he told them, ‘This is what I meant when I said, while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses, in the Prophets and in the Psalms has to be fulfilled.’ He then opened their minds to understand the scriptures, and he said to them, ‘So you see how it is written that the Christ would suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that, in his name, repentance for the forgiveness of sins would be preached to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses to this.’

Organ Transplantation: A Christian Perspective
Tumblr media
Introduction
The act of organ Transplantation has been a medical breakthrough that has saved countless lives. However, it also raises important ethical considerations for Christians. As followers of Christ, it is crucial to understand the parallels between organ Transplantation and biblical teachings. This article aims to explore these ethical considerations from a Christian perspective, shedding light on the significance of organ Transplantation in the context of the body being a temple according to the Bible. Through this, we can gain a deeper understanding of the gift of life and sacrificial love demonstrated in organ donation. As we delve into the biblical teachings on blood and flesh, we can better navigate the challenges of organ Transplantation and strive to make ethical decisions that align with our faith.
Understanding Organ Transplantation
Organ transplantation, the act of replacing a diseased or damaged organ with a healthy one, has become a life-saving medical procedure. From heart and kidney Transplantation to bone marrow and cornea transplants, this medical advancement has drastically improved the quality of life for many individuals. In the context of Christianity, understanding the parallels between organ Transplantation and biblical teachings is crucial for ethical evaluation. Organ transplantation raises significant ethical questions in Christianity. The Bible teaches that the human body is a temple and should be treated with utmost respect and care, as reflected in various passages. Therefore, Christians must grapple with the ethical implications of taking organs from one person and transplanting them into another. While organ donation can be viewed as a selfless act of love, it also raises concerns about the desecration of the body. Christians must carefully weigh the benefits of saving a life against the potential harm to the donor's body and soul. Additionally, Christians must consider the impact of organ transplantation on the concept of resurrection. According to Christian beliefs, the body will be resurrected at the end of time. If organs are taken from a person's body, how will it impact the resurrected body? This is a complex question that requires careful reflection. To evaluate the ethics of organ transplantation in Christianity, it is essential to understand the parallels between this practice and biblical teachings. The human body is a sacred temple that should be treated with reverence and care. Christians must weigh the benefits and potential harm of organ transplantation while also considering its implications on the concept of resurrection. Ultimately, Christians must carefully consider these ethical questions and make informed decisions based on their faith and values. Organ transplantation raises ethical considerations because it involves the removal of organs from one person's body and their transplantation into another person's body. This process directly impacts the sanctity and integrity of the human body, which is considered a temple in various religious traditions. According to 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (KJV), it is proclaimed that our physical bodies are sacred abodes of the Holy Spirit, bestowed upon us by God. We do not belong to ourselves, for we have been purchased at a great cost. Therefore honor God with your bodies. This verse emphasizes that the body is a sacred vessel that should be treated with respect and used to honor God. Similarly, According to Exodus 30:12 (KJV), when conducting a census of the Israelites, each individual must offer a ransom to the Lord for their life. This will ensure that no plague befalls them during the counting process. This verse highlights the value placed on each individual's life and suggests that it should not be taken lightly or treated as expendable. Moreover, 1 Kings 6:7 (KJV) recounts the remarkable account of the construction of Solomon's temple, where no sound of hammer, chisel, or any iron tool was heard within its walls during its construction. This verse signifies the care and reverence with which the temple was constructed, implying that similar care should be taken when dealing with the human body. These biblical passages suggest that the human body should be treated as a sacred entity and not subjected to unnecessary harm or desecration. When considering organ transplantation, ethical questions arise regarding whether it is appropriate to remove organs from one person's body for the benefit of another. Some ethical concerns include: 1. Consent: Is it morally acceptable to remove organs from a deceased person without their explicit consent? Should consent be presumed unless explicitly stated otherwise? 2. Allocation: How should organs be allocated among potential recipients? Should factors such as age, health, or social status be considered? Should there be a fair and transparent system in place to ensure equitable distribution? 3. Commodification: Does organ transplantation commodify the human body by treating it as a resource to be bought and sold? Should organs be treated as a marketable commodity, or should they be seen as a gift of life? 4. Risk and Benefit: What are the risks and benefits associated with organ transplantation? Are the potential benefits to the recipient worth the risks and potential harm to the donor? 5. Respect for the Dead: How should the bodies of deceased individuals be treated after organ donation? Should there be specific protocols in place to ensure that their bodies are treated with respect and dignity? These ethical considerations highlight the complex nature of organ transplantation and the need for careful reflection on how to balance the potential benefits of saving lives with the reverence and care owed to the human body.
The Gift of Life and Sacrificial Love
Altruism, or the selfless concern for the well-being of others, is a fundamental aspect of Christian teachings. This concept is particularly relevant when discussing organ transplantation, as it involves the ultimate act of altruism – giving the gift of life to someone in need. In Matthew 10:8 (KJV), Jesus himself instructs his followers to "freely ye have received, freely give." This selfless giving is further emphasized in Romans 12:8 (KJV), where it is mentioned as a gift of grace. The sacrificial love and service mentioned in Mark 10:45 (KJV) and Ephesians 5:2 (KJV) also resonate with the act of organ donation. From a Christian ethical perspective, organ donation can be seen as a way to embody these teachings and follow the example of Jesus, who gave his life for the salvation of others. It is an opportunity for individuals to demonstrate their sacrificial love and serve others in a profound way.

Balancing Altruism and Sanctity of Life: Blood and Flesh
The practice of organ transplantation has long been a topic of ethical debate, as it raises questions about the balance between altruism and the sanctity of life. While many people believe that donating organs to save the lives of others is a selfless act of kindness, others argue that it goes against the religious belief that blood is sacred and holds great significance in the sanctity of life. This belief is rooted in various passages from the Bible, including John 15:13 KJV, Jeremiah 17:10 KJV, Leviticus 17:11 KJV, and Deuteronomy 12:23 KJV. Despite these religious beliefs, blood donation and transfusion are essential for successful organ transplantation in the medical context. Without these procedures, many patients would not be able to receive life-saving transplants. This creates a moral dilemma for those who hold religious beliefs that conflict with the medical necessity of blood donation and transfusion. To navigate this ethical issue, many religious leaders have encouraged their followers to consider organ donation as an act of charity and compassion. They argue that saving a life through organ transplantation is a noble and selfless act that aligns with the values of many religions. Additionally, some religious organizations have established guidelines for organ donation that take into account the religious beliefs of donors and recipients. Ultimately, the decision to donate organs or receive a transplant is a personal one that requires careful consideration of both medical and ethical factors. While religious beliefs may play a role in this decision-making process, it is important to remember that organ transplantation has the potential to save countless lives and improve the quality of life for many others. Balancing biblical teachings on blood and the medical necessity of blood in organ transplantation requires careful consideration and interpretation of scripture. It is important to remember that biblical teachings were written in a specific cultural and historical context, and may not directly address modern medical practices. In the case of blood, some biblical passages emphasize its sacredness and prohibit its consumption or transfusion (Lev 17:10-14 KJV). However, these teachings were given to ancient Israelites as part of their religious practices and dietary laws. It is important to recognize that medical procedures like blood transfusions were not known or understood at that time. When it comes to organ transplantation, the focus shifts from the consumption of blood to the use of blood for life-saving purposes. The Bible also teaches the value of sacrificial love and saving lives (John 15:13 KJV). Organ donation can be seen as an act of selflessness and love for others, following the example of Jesus' sacrifice. Regarding the importance of flesh in biblical teachings, it is crucial to understand that these passages primarily refer to spiritual matters rather than physical organ transplants. John 6:53-54 KJV and Heb 9:14 KJV speak metaphorically about Jesus' sacrifice and the significance of his flesh in providing salvation. They are not specifically addressing organ transplantation. In light of these considerations, many religious leaders and scholars argue that organ transplantation is consistent with biblical principles. They believe that saving a life through organ donation aligns with the values of compassion, selflessness, and love for others taught in the Bible. Ultimately, individuals should seek guidance from their religious leaders or consult their own beliefs when grappling with this dilemma. It is important to approach this issue with an open mind, considering both the medical necessity of organ transplantation and the ethical implications within one's faith tradition. As Christians, it is important to carefully consider these ethical considerations and find a balance between altruism and the sanctity of life. It is crucial to understand that while organ donation can be seen as a selfless act of love, it should not be at the expense of disregarding the sanctity of life. Balancing these two values is crucial in making ethical decisions regarding organ transplantation.
Challenges of Organ Transplantation from a Christian Perspective
From a Christian perspective, the belief in altruism and selflessness is central to the teachings of Jesus. Christians are called to love their neighbors as themselves and to serve others sacrificially. Organ donation can be seen as an embodiment of this love and service, as it involves giving a part of oneself to save or improve the life of another. However, there are ethical concerns surrounding organ transplantation that Christians must grapple with. One of these concerns is the question of whether it is morally permissible to remove organs from a living or deceased person. Some argue that removing organs from a living person may violate their bodily integrity and autonomy, while others believe that it is a loving act to offer one's organs to save another's life. Similarly, there are differing interpretations of biblical teachings on the importance of blood and flesh. Some Christians believe that the body is sacred and should not be tampered with, while others argue that saving a life takes precedence over concerns about bodily integrity. To navigate these challenges, Christians must carefully consider all ethical considerations and seek guidance from biblical teachings. The Bible does not explicitly address organ transplantation, but it does provide principles that can guide decision-making. For example, Christians are called to value and protect human life, which can be interpreted as supporting organ transplantation if it saves or improves lives. Additionally, Christians can look to Jesus' teachings on selflessness and sacrificial love as a model for making decisions about organ transplantation. If donating an organ aligns with these principles and is done out of genuine love for others, it can be seen as a morally sound choice. Ultimately, evaluating organ transplants from a Christian perspective requires balancing the principles of altruism and the sanctity of life. It involves carefully considering ethical concerns surrounding organ removal and seeking guidance from biblical teachings. By doing so, Christians can make decisions that align with their faith while also promoting the well-being of others.

Conclusion
In conclusion, organ transplantation is a complex and ethically charged topic that requires careful consideration, especially from a Christian perspective. Through exploring the parallels between organ transplants and biblical teachings, we can better understand the ethical implications of this life-saving procedure. From the importance of the body as a temple to sacrificial love and the sanctity of life, the Bible offers valuable insights for our ethical evaluation of organ transplantation. However, as we strive to balance altruism and the sanctity of life, there may be challenges and conflicts that arise. It is crucial for us to continue seeking guidance from the Bible and other ethical principles in order to navigate these challenges. [ad_1] By Laura Gottesdiener, Ted Hesson, Mica Rosenberg and Daina Beth Solomon(Reuters) - REYNOSA, Mexico Sept 29 (Reuters) - When Carolina's captors arrived at dawn to pull her out of the stash house in the Mexican border city of Reynosa in late May, she thought they were going to force her to call her family in Venezuela again to beg them to pay $2,000 ransom.Instead, one of the men shoved her onto a broken-down bus parked outside and raped her, she told Reuters. "It's the saddest, most horrible thing that can happen to a person," Carolina said.A migrant advocate who assisted Carolina after the kidnapping, who spoke to Reuters on condition of anonymity due to security concerns, confirmed all the details of her account. The attack came amid an increase in sexual violence against migrants in the border cities of Reynosa and Matamoros, both major transit routes for immigrants seeking to enter the U.S., according to data from the Mexican government and humanitarian groups, as well as interviews with eight sexual assault survivors and more than a dozen local aid workers."The inhumane way smugglers abuse, extort, and perpetrate violence against migrants for profit is criminal and morally reprehensible," U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) spokesperson Luis Miranda said in response to questions about the rise in reported rapes.Criminal investigations into the rape of foreign nationals, excluding Americans, were the highest on record in the two cities this year, according to state data from 2014 to 2023 obtained by Reuters through freedom of information requests. The U.S. State Department considers Tamaulipas, where the two cities are located, to be the most dangerous state along the U.S.-Mexico border.'TORTURE PROCESS'Facing record illegal border crossings, U.S. President Joe Biden's administration in May moved to a new system that required migrants to secure an appointment - via an app known as CBP One - to present themselves at a legal border crossing to enter the United States.Nine experts, including lawyers, medical professionals, and aid workers, told Reuters the new system has had unintended consequences in the two cities, contributing to a spike in violence. The high risk of kidnapping and sexual assault in Reynosa and Matamoros is one of the factors pushing migrants to cross illegally, four advocates said. Crossings border-wide surged in September.Biden officials say the new CBP policy is more humane because it reduces the need for migrants to pay smugglers and criminal groups to ferry them across the border illegally. The experts said many asylum seekers are no longer paying smugglers to get them across the border - instead traveling towards the frontier on their own, hoping to make an appointment on the app.But criminal groups are still demanding these migrants pay to enter their territory, the experts said."Rape is part of the torture process to get the money," said Bertha Bermúdez Tapia, a sociologist at New Mexico State University researching the impacts of Biden's policy on migrants in Tamaulipas. The Gulf Cartel and the Northeast Cartel are both active in the region and kidnap migrants for ransom, particularly those who arrive without smugglers' protection, according to security analysts. Reuters was unable to contact the two groups. Some migrants are also spending more time in the dangerous region, waiting to secure an appointment on the app. Tens of thousands of people a day are competing for 1,450 slots, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).A senior CBP official based in Washington said CBP was troubled by reports of migrants sexually assaulted in the two cities."It's absolutely something that we're concerned about," said the official, who requested anonymity as a condition of the interview.U.S. authorities temporarily suspended CBP One appointments in June in another Tamaulipas border city, Nuevo Laredo, due to "extortion and kidnapping concerns," the official said. However, Miranda, the DHS spokesperson, said the administration's policies made it unnecessary to wait at the border since migrants could book an appointment from other parts of Central and Northern Mexico.More than 250,000 migrants have scheduled appointments on the CBP One app, and over 200,000 Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans and Venezuelans have entered the United States by air under a separate Biden humanitarian program, according to CBP statistics.'TAKE HER'Carolina said she arrived in Reynosa the night of May 26 on a commercial bus with her 13-year-old son. Men began trailing them as soon as they arrived at the bus station, she said."They said we couldn't be there without their permission," she said, speaking from Chicago. The U.S. State Department warns that criminal groups in Tamaulipas target buses "often taking passengers and demanding ransom payments."The men whisked Carolina away to a house where she said she and other migrants were raped. She said she was freed after family members paid $3,100 in ransom. Reuters was unable to independently verify the payment. She did not report the attack to police, saying she saw no point. An Ecuadoran woman said that while in captivity in Reynosa her kidnappers repeatedly allowed a drug dealer to rape her in exchange for his deliveries of a white powder, which she suspected was cocaine. One night, she clutched her figurine of the Christ child, tiptoed past her sleeping captors, and escaped through the window. "I still have nightmares," she said, speaking from New Jersey in August.Reuters is withholding the full names of the survivors at their request. To corroborate their accounts, Reuters reviewed medical and psychological reports; criminal complaints and legal declarations; financial records, photos and videos supplied by the survivors, attorneys and advocates. The state attorney general's office has opened seven rape investigations of foreign women in the first half of 2023. Four were opened in June alone.Only one of the eight survivors Reuters interviewed reported the attack to authorities: a Honduran woman who said she was raped inside a migrant camp in Matamoros in late May. No one has been arrested, authorities said.Olivia Lemus, head of Tamaulipas' human rights commission, said official data represents a fraction of the cases. "Migrants are afraid to file reports," Lemus said. "The fact that there aren't more reports doesn't mean that this crime isn't occurring."Mexico's national migration agency, Tamaulipas' security agency, and Mexico's foreign ministry did not answer questions about sexual violence against migrants.Juan Rodriguez, head of the Tamaulipas migrant services agency, said the agency was "attentive" to the issue."Unfortunately, sometimes things happen. We can't deny it."A Venezuelan migrant said he was kidnapped in May in Reynosa by a cartel while traveling to the border for his confirmed CBP One appointment. He couldn't raise the full $800 ransom, so he was forced to work for two months to pay off the remaining $200, he said. Two other migrants who said they were held at the house during the same time period confirmed the man was forced to work against his will, and that they heard female migrants being raped. On the nights the Venezuelan man was tasked with standing guard over the other migrants, he said he watched the cartel members ask the man in charge of the house for permission to rape the women of their choosing. He said the answer was always the same: "Take her."(Reporting by Laura Gottesdiener in Reynosa and Matamoros, Ted Hesson in Washington, Mica Rosenberg in New York City and Daina Beth Solomon in Mexico City.
