do you think the Doom aspect has any direct connection to ghosts?

We've got two examples of doom characters in the story, and we really don't know THAT much about Mituna, but Sollux has some pretty strong ghost-connections. His relationship with Aradia, obvsl, his "whispers from the soon to be deceased" which are PROBABLY the ability to talk to/be talked to by atemporal ghosts, but more explicitly by BEING half-ghost after Cascade, and choosing to spend pretty much the rest of the story from that point with Aradia and the ghosts of the Furthest Ring rather than continue the story. You could also make a shakier argument about dream-selves being rather ghosty: activating only when you sleep(there was an old European folk-belief about the soul leaving the body at sleep), being able to float/fly, and generally acting on dream-logic; all of which are ghosty-traits. And there's John, our resident Ectobiologist, being the only Earthican kid(I think???) to interact with him in all of Homestuck. Then there's Sollux's romantic partners, Aradia and Feferi, who not only each have their own strong associations with ghosts but situate HIM, quite literally, between Life and Death XD XD XD BUT: we see Players pickup aspects of ppl they're close to all throughout Homestuck, so it's possible these ghostly interactions, particular to Sollux and (to our knowledge)not shared by the only other Doom player we have, are a result of his association with Aradia and not aspect-related.

BUT-BUT!!! I think there are good thematic reasons to suspect Doom has close associations with Ghosts. Obvsl there's the basic definitions and associations of Doom itself; when we say someone has "met their doom"(which tbf NOBODY SAYS), we mean they've died, and ghosts are dead ppl; Doom can mean judgement and prophecy and Ghosts are often related to judgement and prophecy(See: The Odyssey and A Christmas Carol); Ghosts are often associated with Dread, Inevitability, Stasis, Repetition, and Patterns which, in turn, are all associated with Doom. Then there's his Polycule again, and how it places Doom, as an Aspect, between life and death, which is Proper-Ghosty uwu uwu

So Yeah; I think you can def swing Ghost-associations for Doom. What I WOULD add tho is to remember to make it thematic for the character? Like: Aspects are huge broad ideas and each character expresses them in their own particular way through their much more specific interests and recurring story-motifs. And interests can be shared across characters and Aspects(for instance: wizards popping up as important concepts for Light, Hope, and Void characters, or Death and Ghosts across Sollux, Aradia, and Feferi as discussed here) which inform us primarily about the characters, while secondarily revealing things about how those concepts themselves work in the story, and Aspects more broadly.

It's wert (heh) pointing out that the Aradiabot timeline where Gamzee flipped out and killed everybody in the session might not be one where Vriska was godtier, making this slightly less of an insane feat. With the error bars so large on what this could've been, I don't know what this tells us of his power level. That said, I do have a lot of speculations! (This is very long, my apologies.)

I think the lower bound of what the doomed Gamzee did was something like this:

Gamzee kills Equius (free) and then Nepeta (not using her hunting skills and speed to her fullest advantage). Nobody realises anything is amiss; the meowrails could simply be doing moirail things with their phones off.

Gamzee gets the jump on Eridan who doesn't know to take him seriously and whose best weapon is at this point the long-ranged Ahab's Crosshairs. People assume he's moping.

Gamzee kills Tavros and Vriska while questing at Vriska's. Aradiabot at this point probably knows that the timeline is doomed, so if she finds it odd Eridan hasn't duelled Sollux yet she'll either put it down to divergence, or not care because doomed innit. She's making preparations to leave, not fix things.

Gamzee kills Terezi and Karkat. Even if they know at this point, I doubt Karkat could fully believe it until he laid eyes on the bodies, and Terezi could well try arresting him before she goes to kill him. Karkat was the one who sent Equius after Gamzee in the main timeline, and while that was a doomed venture, he is pretty much the only person thinking in terms of team strategy in the trolls' session.

Kanaya, having worked out some of what's happening, has been messaging people like mad to rally some sort of party together to beat him, but she's getting a lot of no replies, except for Aradia who just unhelpfully tells her everything's doomed innit.

Gamzee kills Sollux before Feferi (we've seen Feferi's revenge leap, whereas Sollux's power and range and ability to fly make me think his revenge blast might well level anything within a few miles).

Kanaya goes to fight him and is killed. She goes down. When she comes back up again, Gamzee is gone to collect the bodies into a single place, and without any blood to suck, her rainbow drinker powers can't bring her back fully. When he gets back to retrieve her body, he kills her again, and this one sticks.

Aradia arrives after he finishes covering the book in blood and, forewarned and forearmed, kills him.

Gamzee has a lot of strength and speed, so if he gets near somebody who doesn't realise he's snapped, he could probably kill that person. Stealth and miscommunication do most of his work for him, with the rest largely down to people in the right order (Equius before Nepeta, Karkat before he can wrangle people into a defence, Kanaya not around any blood sources, etc).

While on the other hand the upper bound could easily have been:

Gamzee kills Karkat and Kanaya publicly but without immediate access to more victims (i.e. somebody's watching them on the Server side, or Karkat was mid-memo rant when he dies). Everybody knows immediately that he's snapped.

He then kills Nepeta, which is enough to send Equius into a rage when he finds out. He doesn't find out yet.

While people are talking about Karkat and Kanaya's deaths, he attacks Tavros and (godtiered) Vriska. He kills Tavros and is so much of a threat that Vriska has to retreat (as you can imagine, when she realises she had to run away, she gets very pissed and starts hunting Gamzee).

Kanaya comes back to life, sucks Karkat's blood, our girl is back in action and she has no mercy.

Equius realises Gamzee killed Nepeta.

Terezi, realising Gamzee is a big threat, lures him to a favourable location for her with plans to kill him. She does this on a public memo so everybody knows where she is and where he's planning to be.

On his way to Terezi's planet, Gamzee runs into Feferi and she fights him and gets killed. Sollux and Eridan learn this right away.

As Gamzee arrives at Terezi's trap, Vriska and Equius arrive pretty much at the same time. Terezi fights Gamzee and dies.

Immediately after, Vriska and Equius try to defeat him. Vriska might not be going for the kill straightaway, but Equius 100% is.

Gamzee kills Equius, which makes Vriska see it's to the death. Kanaya and Eridan (armed with a science wand Kanaya gave him for other reasons at some point) arrive, but fail to put a dent in him. Vriska manages to stay alive for longer, maybe Kanaya does too with her speed, but Eridan dies.

Sollux arrives, and it's a 3v1 with Vriska, Kanaya, and Sollux versus Gamzee. Kanaya dies, and then Solluz, and then Kanaya again, and then Vriska.

Aradia arrives to find Gamzee distracted by scrawling over the book, and as he finishes the last character on the last page, she kills him.

I don't know which one is more realistic or where the actual event lies in between them, but those are kind of the upper and lower bounds I feel like there are for what 'Gamzee flipped out and killed everyone' could mean in that timeline. And incidentally, if anybody wants to write those up as fanfics I'll absolutely read them lol

Sorry for the pages of text, just thought it was an interesting thing to note: we don't know how Gamzee killed everybody! Thought that was ripe for speculation.

I love the level of detail you're put into this analysis.

There are some extremely evocative scenes here. A confrontation where he forces God Tier Vriska to retreat is something I'd love to see expounded upon - and I particularly like the image of an Aradiabot who stumbles upon a barely-coherent, HONKsick Gamzee, silently observes the bodies, and telekinetically snaps his neck.

Out of these two scenarios, I believe the second is probably closer to the truth. While Frenzied Gamzee is capable of being sneaky, he seems to generally prefer shock tactics and intimidation, so a bloody warpath seems more plausible than a stealth-focused approach.

Sick Headcanons : would they be good at taking care of a sick, human s/o ?

Characters : Sollux, Gamzee Content warnings ? : This is a sickfic so there's that, but not much, no mentions of vomit either.

Beginning of the end (wow, dramatic)

Day one: you'd start feeling off, this headache with a weight coming and going, your throat would feel a bit dryer than it should. Half a day of ignoring the warnings, a coughing fit hits you like a truck and Instantly you'd be hit with dread as you realised, shit, it's a cold; you don't even know where the hell you're supposed to get medicine now. Deciding to leave early, you were thankful that no one pried or probed you for answers. Then you had locked yourself up in your room, trying to logic out whether any of your teammates could get you the meds you used to buy. Unsure of how to bring that up, you decide to call it quits for the night. Feeling sluggish by the time you went to sleep. Waking up, you felt like rock-bottom personified. Fuck.

Gamzee Makara

Some would expect him to not notice as fast as he would.

"Nah little mama, something was defo bothering your cute thinkpan and this motherfucker would have to be blind to miss it .Honk"

But no he has a vibe-based radar and depending on how far your relationship has progressed it only becomes more attuned, somehow.

(Of course it did, he's red for you. This isn't a joke for him. it's a startling shift of demeanor to the untrained eye whenever his attentiveness shows, but it really shouldn't be.)

Has no clue how humans work. Still he'll ask you first and if you don't know then fuck. He's gonna have to ask Karkat if his human buddies know anything.

Either way, he'll bring a blanket and make a pile so that he can sleep near you in-case you need anything. He doesn't wanna leave you alone when you're sick, it has to feel extra lonely.

..at least he thinks it would be. Thinks. That's all.

He'll keep you company and bring you food, water, if you need Meds he'll try to look it up and see what he can do.

He's surprised when he remembers a few tricks he taught himself, from the times when he got sick while goatdad was away.

Will set a cold wet cloth on your forehead and switches it out when you fall asleep.

If you feel gloomy when sick, or if you just want him to, he'll do whatever he can to make you laugh.

Ask him to jump-scare someone by crawling in the vents and you'll see he's already five steps ahead of you. You can't help almost heckling a laugh for the second time when he gets back through the vents and you see he brought a Jason mask with him to scare the poor soul for your entertainment.

if you chose peace this time, he still has some tricks! He will make you laugh until you feel better, and you trust that based on experience.

He's strangely smooth as he walks around, not stumbling as much, although he seems to be acting like usual on the day when you wake up feeling well.

...you never did see it, but he couldn't let himself stay high while you were sick, it didn't feel right.

It really didn't feel right. He doesn't think it'll be remotely okay ever again, now that he knows you can get sick like this, - but it's okay. Now he can look out for you, like how you do for him.

Sollux Captor

Well shit, there's a chance that he finds out a bit later than Gamzee simply because he makes himself busy.

He'd notice you not replying to his pestering though, so off his chair and out his roo-..respiteblock he goes.

God, he'd inwardly cringe a little when entering your human room because he can sense the sick in the air somehow.

Asks the humans upfront how to take care of a sick person, which is noted to be unusual by Rose but she promises not to pry.

Sollux also stays in your room, brings a husktop, makes a makeshift pile to sleep on and just monitors you until you're feeling better.

Occasionally he'll leave, but mostly to get food, water, so on so forth.

Lets be honest, locking himself in a room and not leaving is not something out of the norm for Sollux. it's not difficult for him to stay.

Lets you whine if you're an insufferable patient type of person, he can feel a bit irritable but he just can't let himself get angry at you while you're sick.

The thought of snapping at you while you're steaming like a stove-top makes him feel like a jerk, and he has a heart in his ribs somewhere even when he acts difficult about it.

This type of vulnerability is new from you, and he won't make you regret not pushing him away.

He'll bring you a controller to play games together if you feel well enough to play. Would let you backseat him while he plays if you can't but still want to do something together.

He'll pester others for your entertainment too, or if you have human friends who could send over something for you he'll ask them for it too. Comfort soup that you can't make here? Consider it done, your friend will bring it in a few hours.

(he doesn't wanna risk fucking up the recipe and give you food poisoning.)

You get to choose the background music when he's doing coding, still, ask for his attention and you will receive it.

He might honestly fix a few things wrong in your room that you didn't know about if he gets bored while you're asleep. Mild things.

Also replaces some of your old chargers with newer and less beat-up ones.

He might even purr (read: buzz) if you pull his heart strings (not that difficult) and say it'll help you sleep, especially if you have a difficulty falling asleep when sick.

All in all, he learns pretty fast. Not that you should tell him that right after you recover, it'd give him an industrial sized ego.

aradia - reviews of inaccurate halloween decoration skeletons. theyre not rated on anatomical accuracy but by how much swag they have. most of her other videos are short clips of her livevlogging her day and telling short stories, but shes funny and witty so they do numbers. very low effort and low cost, but shes having fun.

tavros - CARD PACK UNWRAPPING. guy who in no way can afford his hobby but keeps getting these card packs for his channel. surprisingly relaxing to listen to while you have him minimized in another tab while you do something else. he goes over each card in the deck and their effects as well as rarity.

sollux - basically what you said. IT guide on walking through common computer problems. horrible mic quality, but really helpful information.

karkat - ABSOLUTELY would be a movie reviewer. no facecam but for whatever reason has CRISP mic quality. somehow NEVER peaks his mic despite all the screaming he does. he loves media analysis and getting pissed off over fandom drama so hed probably also do breakdowns of scandals in fandom spheres, and somehow almost getting sued.

nepeta - SPEEDPAINTS. and like. flipnote hatena style amvs. obviously very amateur but its a very cute art style and she has no concept of copyright infringement.

kanaya - makeup tutorials and fashion reviews. would definitely be like that one youtuber who reviews the accuracy of historical fiction dresses in film and tv. everytime the virgin mothergrub is in the background of her videos her comments are spammed with "MOTH MOM REAL"

terezi - animated shitposts. like. grinchs ultimatum, garfielf, shit like that. REALLY bright colors and shitty linework with windows moviemaker transitions. no one knows who she is and shes never done a face reveal so shes a total enigma. there are deep web theories that her videos are anti-empire propaganda.

vriska - flarping tutorials. genuinely. she goes over mechanics, spells, class breakdowns, even shares stories of her own flarp campaigns. VERY passionate about it and kind of has an asshole youtuber persona. posts an apology video like once a month then goes on like nothing happened. replies to every mean comment.

equius - weightlifting videos. dead silent. just grunting and metal clanking. no editing. addresses every comment in every video. lots of heavy breathing. very uncomfortable. almost like performance art in how desolate it feels.

gamzee - cooking videos. its as bad as it sounds.

eridan - showing off everything in his hive and talking about it. his guns. his outfits. ranting about pollution. each video is an hour long. its mostly just him complaining or bragging about the stuff he owns.

feferi - has a live feed of her cuttlefish pen going constantly. posts animal care videos. posts music. does challenges. her youtube is kind of an inconsistent mish-mash of content but one thing remains: you will watch her cuttlefish.

I'm sorry but right off the bat if the main argument as to why their relationship is "meant to be" is their shared color or class that's really superficial. By that same logic, do you think Dave or Karkat should end up with Latula because she hides her insecurities behind a facade like they do? And remember, Karkat stated that he and John were meant to be.

But if we're talking about symbolism, Solkat shares the same kind of symbolism, because Sollux has a red eye that matches the color of Karkat's blood, which is even more meaningful since Sollux is ALSO a mutant, making him just as cullable as Karkat. Terezi also fits this idea because she loves the color red, and her eyes are that color as well. It's as if she empowers Karkat through their shared connection to the color he hates so much. Neither Sollux or Terezi treated Karkat as less for his mutancy, and in fact they became best friends with him. This shared life experience is something Dave wouldn't understand, as he wouldn't face being murdered for having red eyes on Earth. Besides, why are Dave's eyes special? Rose/Mom had purple/pink eyes, which are more unnatural and they didn't cover them or the story tried too frame them as an angst point.

nepkat also feels more symbolic because the Disciple was in love with the Signless, Karkat's ancestor. Nepeta's love for Karkat feels like the Disciple's love for the Signless was so strong that it transcended generations, crossing over to their descendants.

Where did you read about these realizations in the actual comic? The actual last time Karkat talks about it he still thinks the Empire was great and that HIC was cool; that never changed. Dave realized he was messed up because he thought all his friends' troubles were insignificant. Jade was isolated from almost birth and had to do taxidermy with her grandfather's corpse, and Dave called that "complaining" even thought Jade never once complained about her childhood. Even in HS2, Karkat admits that Dave is a whiny deadbeat.

And they didn't improve anything by getting together, in fact it ruined what little character buildup they both had, especially for Karkat. The Condesce didn't want mutants or limebloods to reproduce because she's a eugenicist fascist. That's why limebloods were genocided to extinction. Culling is about preventing the "undesirables" from reproducing. Karkat is a mutated limeblood, so if he doesn't reproduce with another troll, limebloods remain extinct, and everything stays the same. Davekat actually aided her plan of troll eugenics.

And back to Solkat, what could be a better "FUCK YOU" to the Empress than the descendant of the Singless, a pariah tortured to death, ending up with the descendant of the Psionic, the slave she ALSO tortured to death and saw merely as a durable ship battery?

Dave was totally not a homosexual till he met karkat. Karkat was obsessed with quadrants until he met dave and felt attracted to him in many different quadrants.

Dave's not homosexual, if anything he's bisexual. Why disregard his relationships with Jade, Terezi, and Rose? And why Karkat? Because he drew dicks with him? Why not say Dave realized his feelings when he met John? John gave him the glasses he's wearing now, which I find way more meaningful and touching. Karkat was also vacillating for Terezi, whom he specifically said he wanted in every quadrant like a desperate fool. And I suspect he had similar feelings for Sollux and Jade as well.

Not to mention, they just have a nice dynamic! And karkat and sollux being besties is super valid and they're also super cute. I loved that scene we got in the last homestuc 2 update sm

Dude, again, I'm sorry, but I just disagree completely. There's nothing there. There is nothing unique, compelling or special about their dynamic that couldn't be better achieved with better options like Sollux, Terezi, John, Nepeta, Jade, etc. Davekat literally started because Dave quoted the same phrase Karkat used with Sollux. It's a rebound at worst and a forced downgrade at best.

Consider not only how he was handled, but how you wish he was handled, and if you think he had any potential that was unused.

I thought of what feels like a kinda funny Homestuck AU: Deafswap (or just Deafstuck)

Basically, instead of characters wearing glasses and being blind/low vision, they're various levels of deaf (and some would wear hearing aids)

So, with John and Jake being basically blind as a bat without their glasses, would have moderate-severe/severe hearing loss (and would use hearing aids regularly)

Jade would have moderate loss, and would mostly rely on lip reading (but I could imagine her picking up some kind of sign language)

Jane would be mild/moderate (I see her glasses as being akin to reading glasses/"old person blindness", but her having glasses from birth and being Crockerbert means vision wasn't a strong suit anyhow), and would have subtler hearing aids and use lip reading where she can (I'm...not sure why she wouldn't really know much sign, but something something mainstream habitat/class compared to the others something something batterwitch)

Dave and Dirk swear their hearing is fine ("EB: so why do you wear those lame earbuds all the time? EB: don't you know you look like a douche with them?"), but they don't even know if that's true or not. Turns out, their hearing is within average levels. They just have auditory processing disorder and the earbuds help for some reason)

Sollux is half-deaf, with one ear perfectly within average levels (perhaps sensitive?), and the other just as deaf as it gets (just low frequencies at super high levels). It very much disorients him at times.

Terezi...I have no idea. In this AU, she should become completely deaf due to Vriska's "Make Her Pay", but she was blinded by the Alternian sun. Maybe there's a creature or plant that, if you stand too close to it, your hearing just gets eviscerated? But yeah. She uses her nose and tongue to hear people. "But what about lip-reading?" This is absolutely funnier.

Vriska would have mild loss and would do everything she could to mask it. She'd still have glasses - since vision 8fold - but they'd just be aesthetics. When the cue-ball blows up and she loses the vision 8fold, that ear gains moderate loss, which she still refuses to tell people to the very end.

Equius isn't deaf at all. He just likes wearing ear muffs because protection against robot construction/destruction noises. They're also notably scuffed.

Eridan is also not deaf. Instead, he has a bunch of ear bling that comes close to looking like he's wearing hearing aids but definitely isn't. For some reason, he still wears those glasses of his.

Feferi isn't deaf by the classical definition, but her hearing is definitely different to land dwellers due to spending all her time in the water. She wears fancy-looking earplugs when she's out of the water since her hearing is extra sensitive out of the water.

Thank you all for the finterest! Since these questions are similar in a way, i decided to reply to them all in a single post ^u^ so buckle up! >:D

How did they meet? probs in college?????? but like, karkat's college. i think dave would be kind of indecisive on whether or not he should go to one, but a little before his obsession began he would enroll on the same one as karkat to stay closer. Dave firstly "befriended" some of karkat's friends(terezi or sollux likely?), which introduced them to each other and where the first contact was made.

Was it first-sight? I don't see dave as a "love at first-sight" kind of guy. Why did he obssess? because karkat pays so much attention to him! he is the one to always engage with whatever dave does until he kind of tries to sea how far he can take this douchebag-ragebait schtick. and dave is ecstatic of course, because he realizes 'oh my god someone is actually for real paying attention to me' i think thats the point in which an actual romantic attraction begins and thats how he descends eventually! searching for more and more attention because he craves it. being neglected his whole damn life, lost his only friends and now he has someone who gives him all the attention in the world. who wouldnt?????????
