I think the strangest thing to have come out of Dual Rulers, that I'm surprised more people aren't talking about, is the whole thing with Unika's birth. The wording in the episode seems to almost imply that the egg that carried Unika was left by Dizzy as she died in the future:

"The abominable gear, Dizzy, left behind an egg before her death"

And that's, weird, right? It seems like an implication that Unika was immaculately conceived. I don't think it's a coincidence that Ky is never seen once during any of the flashbacks about her origin.

What it seems to be implying to me is that Command-Type Gears have some sort of, failsafe, perhaps? Where when they're close to death, they leave behind an egg with a new Command-Type Gear within. My reasoning for this is mostly Dizzy herself, given that she was born in 2177, 2 years after Justice died / "lost power" and was sealed in a dimensional prison. (This comes from the wiki, I can't say I'm a Justice Scholar)

I think that could be an interesting explanation about where Dizzy comes from, but it's still weird to drop potentially really significant lore like that just randomly? It seems like a cool idea. I don't hate it. But it's weird to mention it in passing.

Alternatively: Sol and Ky had children with their significant others who were attempting to destroy the world. That gives them something in common at least. Choose your own adventure ig

Since I still have yet to complete the Bedman aquarium fic for Mermay (I promise I'll finish it eventually...) I'm gonna do the thing I did last time where I toss out a bunch of little random bits of lore for the fun of it and to fill the space. A chunk of it name-related specifically this time, since while in-game it's all music references it's a little less realistic here

-Sin was named by I-no, after several weeks of trying and failing to determine where he had appeared from and how nobody had found him until he was already born. In a fit of frustration, she referred to him as 'A sin against nature and a blight on my fucking existence' and that's what they decided to go with.

-Prior to that, he was given the designation 'PE-EK2.' 'PE' is a standard designation for all unnamed subjects, short for 'Piscinus Erectus,' the scientific name for mer as a species

-Millia's name is a result of a bad game of telephone between languages. The Russian lab she was raised in used numerical designations, but the staff would affectionately refer to her as 'милая' or 'Milaya,' meaning 'sweetie.' A scientist mistakenly put it down on a piece of paperwork, and the translation software transliterated it into English as 'Milaya' rather than its actual meaning, leading that office to believe that was actually her given name. Sometime afterwards, when in a verbal discussion regarding her transfer, the director misread it and further mispronounced it 'Millia,' which ended up on the official documentation for Illyria Aquarium

-As a result, trying to get any paperwork from her old facility is like pulling teeth because there's just enough differences in names for nobody to realize that they're all talking about the same octopus

-Sol's is somewhat similar to how he was named in canon. Aria and Dr. Comisky chose it to symbolize his role in the advance of scientific study, as a 'beacon of knowledge and hope for the future of research.' Asuka had suggested 'Frederick' viewing it as a more 'respectable' name, but the vote was 2-1.

-Of the three original project members, Sol was by far attached to Aria the most. After the project broke apart, Sol refused to interact with Asuka at all, and still do this day comes across as having a dislike for him.

-Fanny gave Faust his name because she's a theater nerd

-Most mer don't have surnames, it isn't as though they have similar family structures as humans do. The Valentines only share a name with Aria and Jack-O because Aria had a habit of calling them by that, initially just as a playful scolding when they misbehaved

-Chipp was originally found in a tiny riverside village by a half-blind old man, Tsuyoshi. At first mistaking Chipp for a human, he ended up taking care of him and later trying to raise him like a son. After the man's passing, other members of the village had no idea how to care for Chipp in the same way, they called the aquarium and arranged for him to be picked up

-Because of his upbringing, Chipp is one of the few mer that can read with relative fluency. He couldn't read a novel if you handed it to him, but he can read signs and the panels inside his tank

-Testament was estranged from their father for several years, being a stark pacifist while he was a decorated veteran. The two thankfully reconciled after some help from Dizzy

-Dizzy isn't actually her real name. If asked, she says it was because she was a clumsy child that always crashed into things

-Aria has been sworn to secrecy, but the real reason she's called that is because of the one time she accidentally ate half a tray of weed brownies in college thinking they were normal ones, and for the next several hours she could barely walk straight without plowing right into a wall and tripping over herself.

-Testament's name is actually Testament, at least legally. They changed it when they updated their pronouns

-Goldlewis has a mer-sona, but if you asked him, he would deny it. He has spent a significant amount of money commissioning artwork of it

-The aquarium generally tries to avoid feeding mer any kind of 'people food,' but a handful of mer have expressed a like for certain foods even though they aren't supposed to eat them.

-Nagoriyuki likes rice (nobody's sure why)

-Bedman will eat most meat, including chicken and hamburger (being raised poorly and not given an adequate diet)

-Sin, likewise, will eat basically any meat, but has shown a specific fondness for ham

-Jam once climbed out of her tank to steal Axl's lunch, and they're still not quite sure what was in it that she wanted so bad, or if she was just doing it entirely for the sake of it

-Presumably due to pica from vitamin deficiencies and blood loss, A.B.A. has eaten several coins that have fallen into her tank

-Literally nobody knows where Raven came from. I-no pretends she knows and is just hiding it but she doesn't. They don't even know if Raven is his first or last name. Nobody has any clue, and if not for how affable and accident-prone he was, it would unnerve everyone quite a lot

Sol and Ky are Reshiram and Zekrom coded. How have I never seen anyone else clock this fact?

Sol is blunt as all hell while also being sort of a relic of another era with fire as his main thing which all maps EXTREMELY well to Reshiram.

Meanwhile Ky is an idealist who's always trying to strive for a better future and has electricity as his element of choice, which maps really fucking well to Zekrom!

In terms of Aria finally stabilizing somehow, would it be funnier if all the characters who are supposed to be different parts of Aria

1) merged into one being with different parts of all of each character

2) were different forms she could switch through like Ben 10

3) all stayed seperate and just kind of exist as the spiritual inverse of a DiD system

Something I find really funny about Guilty Gear's plot and Sol Badguy's character is that in the lore, Sol is like, the best scientist ever? Huge fuckin nerd. Did gene experiments and shit. Invented several weapons so strong that they're considered "ancient all-powerful relics" by the time the games takes place. Several characters are only as strong as they are because they're using advanced weapons that Sol designed. But because he's ageless and never mentions he did that, nobody knows that about him?? He carries himself like a total numbskull. Why is one of the smartest scientists of a generation roleplaying a gym bro who dropped out of high school?? It's really funny to me

Guilty Gear Dual Rulers is genuinely not worth watching in the least bit, even if you're a Guilty Gear fan, so I'll just throw out some notable plot beats about the show (no spoilers for the Actual Story of course but. Again. Genuinely not worth watching)

The story has literally no relation to any previous GG plots/stories outside of the world and characters - no Backyard, no mention of Asuka or That Guy or Happy Chaos, Gears are important but more as sort of "McGuffins"

Sin is pretty much exclusively the main character (Dueteragonists along with Unika)

Other characters (IE Sol, Jack'O, Ram, Elphelt, even Johnny and Baiken) show up, but only Sol, Unika, and Sin really "Do" anything

Sol Badguy evidently owns a Mosin Nagant and is a crack shot with it

Sol Badguy shoots Sin Kiske with a real-world gun more times than he shoots actual "enemies"

The Cool Dragon Gear dude from Guilty Gear 2 shows up and actually has plot relevancy (at least somewhat)

They show Bridget's ass while she's taking a bath in the ocean on the beach(???)

Bridget's ass is apparently so amazing and beautiful that it literally makes an evil character become good

How Sol Badguy would celebrate your birthday!

He won't go too overboard about it, but he'll do his best to make you feel just a little more special then usual. He might forget your birthday until you mention it to him a week or two before hand, and then he'll start thinking about what to do.

He won't over do it, but there is definitely a lot of thought behind what he does for you on your birthday. It's definitely something small, yet holes so much meaning but he'll be so casual about it like:

"Remember that restaurant you said you liked a year ago? Yeah we're going there, no arguing." and of course being a bounty hunter, he definitely has more then enough money to buy you the food. He'll say a snarky remark about how he's having to pay for everything yet the moment you mention you'll the to buy something he'll just shut it down with a firm. "No."

after the restaurant, he is definitely dragging you to the couch to watch a movie. Even if it's something he doesn't particularly like, he'll just watch it with you to have an excuse to sling his arm around your shoulder as you watch a movie.

He won't do anything too particularly big on a cake since he gets quite annoyed quickly with the attention and loud singing, so he'll give you a piece of your favorite kind of cake and just smiles when he sees your face lights up. But if you dare point out his soft smile or smirk, he'll just return back to his grumpy frown and deny it.

For gifts he'll give you something small or he'll give you something you've been talking to him about a lot and wanting. He won't go too overboard with it as well but he definitely trys to make the moment special and intimate.

And if you ask him, he'll take you on a ride on his motorcycle. Normally he doesn't let you since he complains and uses the excuse that you have your own vehicle, but since it's your birthday, he'll ride you around for a while to enjoy the wind before winding down at home.
