Happy 1000 hits?

First time getting a fic get over 1000 hits on Ao3! It... isn't that good so I don't really know why it got so much attention especially after all these months. Here to a thousand more? Sokkla Saturdays 2023: October 7th to November 25th

Sokkla Saturdays: Earth & Mars

Summary: combining last weeks and this weeks prompts - Azula often finds herself blurring the line between love and hate.

Hunger.

Love.

In a way they are the same emotion.

She has never felt things in the ways that people tell her she should. 

Slash!

Blast!

The fire reflects on his blade before it deflects.

He charges at her as she charges at him.

Resentment.

Desire.

These can also sometimes become one and the same. 

Sometimes she doesn’t know where one ends and the other begins.

Clang!

Sizzle!

It is a bizarre love language.

Sokka doesn’t realize that he is fluid in it.

“Idiot!”

“Heartless!”

One word and he looks as though she has burned him physically.

Somehow that hurts more than the slash on her cheek.

Crash!

Explode!

His sword misses its mark and he lands belly down.

Her fire blasts a crater just shy of where he has landed.

“Weak!”

“Cruel!”

He says that he isn’t weak but rather that he is facing someone ludicrously powerful.

She says that if she were that he would be a pile of bones and ashes right now.

Offense.

Spite.

One leads to the other.

Her mind finds clarity in spite and in clarity she offense has no worth.

Punch!

Slap!

He clutches his stomach and goes down on his knees. 

She wishes that he would punch her like he punches Zuko.

“Why?”

“Because.”

He needs to stop asking stupid questions.

They are at war and she has a job to do.

Swipe!

Jab!

It is almost over for him. 

He never had a chance.

“Pathetic!”

“Evil.”

He says that she wouldn’t think so if she knew what it was like to start from the bottom.

She is not! she swears it.

Guilt

Pride

She often feels these at the same time.

She hates that he takes her moment from her with that sad sad sorry expression.

Leap!

Shove!

She should have known that he had more fight in him.

She shouldn’t be amused in the slightest but she is.

“Interesting.”

“Beautiful.”

She should have kept her thoughts to herself.

She shouldn’t have closed their proximity so much. 

Inhale.

Exhale. 

He smells like brine and she smells like smoke. 

They smell strangely nice together. 

Hate.

Love.

There is a line between the two and she thinks that she constantly crosses it.

Chapter 38 of The Return is out!

Here comes another chapter! The Gaang are fighting bandits, searching temples, and blowing shit up on the daily. Hopefully people are enjoying this story as I've been writing it more regularly over the past few months; I am admittedly slowing down a bit because I've just started my PhD in this past month.

I find it a violation of my most basic human rights that there's only one Sokkla fic written by you that I can read. You need to fix this.

I wasn't sure about writing more. It's so different from what I usually write, and the reception was pretty lackluster for such a popular ship... for you though, I will definitely consider it!

Maybe I'll do a poll again to gauge interest. That's actually how that Sokkla one-shot came to be, people chose the ship over more Ozula or Zhaozula content, and Zucest.

You’re the one who submitted the prompts with the Ember Island Players for Sokkla Saturdays, right? I just need to say you’re a genius! I had a similar idea, but didn’t submit it, cause didn’t know how to fit it in a small prompt. Too specific. It went like this: the Gaang goes to a new EIP show post-war (now aware that they’re terrible, but nothing can be worst than The Boy in The Iceberg, right?) and the play misinterprets Sokka and Azula’s relationship and depicts it in a romantic light, like they did with Zuko and Katara before. Of course both Sokka and Azula are in the audience completely scandalized.

Thank you so much! I'm actually really proud of that idea, and I'm very glad it got picked. And your idea is similarly a genius one! It's a shame you weren't able to enter it, but hey, at least you'll get something similar!

Sokkla Swan Princess AU

Reblogged a post earlier today by azulaag-chakras that got me thinking.

1. Takes place after the war. They run into a spirit that they *slightly* anger after Sokka gets a verbal lashing from Azula and later Katara at a ball. Truly, that is the best scene of the movie. Who knows, maybe the spirit was angry because they were arguing about Sokka's choice of words

2. Azula doesn't know how to be a turtle duck. It starts with small things like Sokka CARRYING HER because she can't walk properly yet. *Chef kiss*

3. Eventually, she learns to adore being held by Sokka. Imagine this small turtle duck sleeping in his lap!!

I don't have problems with other crackships too. Yes, I don't understand some of them (especially Tyzula, Zukki, Yueko and Zukka, I mean "Ok having imagination, but these need a lot of change to the original plot and characters' characterization), but frankly I can't Say anything cause my same favourite ship needs a lot of imagination.

I noticed that a lot of jetzula shippers also ship sokkla. You know what I think of that?

That's great! I completely understand why there's overlap there. Sokkla is also a spicy, fiery ship. No hate here. Sokkla shippers keep doing your thing!

*Cries in in just put out the last chapter of my latest long fic and have no WIPs other than bullet points* *Doesn't even have any working titles panic*

So this is going to be really interesting.

For debate: the closet thing that I have is this super messy, unpolished snippet with no prose whatsoever. Completely un-formatted too. It's from a fic that I may or may not even get to but have a concept for; Azula basically shuts down completely and enters this semi-catatonic unfeeling state.

“It’s fine zuko. I’m not sad.” “You lost everything you should feel upset!” “I used to. I felt a lot of things, betrayal, hurt, anger, shame… But one day it just stopped hurting. This is better. I don’t want to feel.” .oOo. "you always had ursa and iroh. I was always alone." “you had mai and tylee.” "they didn't really like me. They were only there because they were afraid of what would have happened if they weren’t" “That’s not true.” “It is.” “Azula.” “You said that I’m a liar but I’ve only ever told you the truth exactly as it was. Father did want to kill you, he doesn’t love you and he never will. He’ll always think that you have no honor. And mother doesn’t love me. She will always hate and fear me. That’s just how it is.”

For Kindness: Untitled fic concept where Icy is hit with the kindness spell in (4kids) season 2 and it doesn't wear off.

It floods in like jingling sleigh bells, like laughter and the fluid song of the ice. Like peppermint kisses on rosy cheeks and hands stuffed into mittens. And it is overwhelming, physically nauseating as claws of light magic slice her darkness to ribbons. She tries to conjure up her favorite images but she finds that her focus lasping…redirecting. Mental images of faeries pinned by the wings to the floor are spliced with faeries skipping and laughing. A wanna be witch sobbing over books that Stormy had swatted out of her arms is interrupted by a hand, that Icy only faintly recognizes as her own, helping her up. The entirety of Magix blanketed in an eternal snow is overtaken by a cozy winter in the city with open fires and sticks heavy with marshmallows. Icy grits her teeth. The spell is seeping its way in, snuffing the malice and plucking evil inclinations right out of her as she tries fruitlessly to snatch them back.

Due to time constraints for many of the habitual participants of the event, we would like to put forward that fanfiction entries this year should be drabbles (between 100 and 1000 words). Nevertheless, each participant is free to create whatever they're inspired to make: you will still be allowed to partake in the event if you break the word count limit.

Due to the time constraints indeed, a proper prompt and poll system was beyond our possibilities this time. That being said, the chosen prompts provide a broad scope of possibilities: you can choose to take any of the prompts associated with the planetary theme assigned for each day, you can work with the planet in question, too: anything is valid within the prompts provided. If you had any particular story or prompt you REALLY wished to explore in Sokkla Saturdays this year? Feel free to find whichever prompt it fits best and build your story around it. Depending on participation levels and interest this year, we may return to the poll format next year.

hello, it seems like this page is dominated by Azula x girl ships, which is totally cool, I personally could see her with Ty Lee the most, but I was wondering if there are any thoughts on Azula x Sokka? Seeing as Sokka’s positive experiences with family could help Azula’s family trauma, and they are both incredibly smart and witty… just a thought. Please disregard me if you wish.

This is a question which deserves to be dealt with broadly. There actually aren't many reasonably prominent boys around Azula's age she can even potentially be shipped with. it's really only Haru, Teo, Jet, Zuko (note: I do not approve of Azula/Zuko, but I'll get back to that), Sokka, and Aang.

Teo and Haru do have significant appearances, but they receive almost no characterization, so there's not a strong reason to ship them with Azula.

Jet potentially makes a very interesting ship partner for Azula, simply because they have almost nothing in common yet perhaps share a certain drive and determination. However, it's a bit hard to imagine how they would even become lovers, and it's simply not a very popular ship.

For Zuko, even if we ignore the issue of incest, which is not a small issue at all, it's not a very attractive ship for me even from a theoretical perspective. Azula is a way more interesting character than Zuko, but one problem that she has is the everyone (the creators, the series, fanfic writers, fans, etc.) makes everything about her revolve around Zuko. Azula/Zuko as a ship perpetuates this tendency. Also, it involves Azula becoming emotionally dependent on another toxic guy from her family, which is something you'd hope she would grow out of. So yeah, I don't like Azula/Zuko due to the incest, but even ignoring that it doesn't seem particularly compelling to me.

Aang potentially makes a very interesting partner for Azula. They share so much. They're duty-driven prodigies who had an immense weight of expectations placed on them, they both love making mischief, they're both deeply ethical individuals, even if they're ethic systems are completely different, and Azula is even arguably one of the characters least inclined to resort violence in the series, just like Aang. Azula also left a scar on Aang's body when she killed him, so there's potentially a very odd sort of connection to explore. And Aang's compassion would be complex for Azula to experience and you can do a lot about how their cultures clash and combine. However, that being said, I have only very rarely seen an Azulaang fic I like. Common issues are

Putting Aang in a position of power over Azula

Making Azula's life resolve around serving Aang

Cutting Azula completely off from her connection to her nation

Softening Azula's character in a way that removes her canonical drive and ambition

Now we can finally talk about Sokka. The theoretical basis for Sokka/Azula is pretty strong. They're both warriors with daddy issues, they're both duty dedicated they both struggle to live up to their desired roles, they're both leaders, they're both highly intelligent, they're both sarcastic as hell, etc. The parallels just keep piling up. Azula is even one of the few characters to value nonbenders. There's a reason why this is the most popular Azula x male ship.

However, I have found that I don't tend to like Sokkla fics. Something feels off about them. I think part of the issue is that Sokka is a very hard character to write well, and he tends to feel a bit off to me whenever I see him in fanfiction. He's as silly and childish and idiotic and melodramatic as he is mature, intelligent, and dutiful. Also, it's easy to completely ignore his cultural background, but I think that background is critical to the character. Generally I've found that Sokkla fics tend to feel like they're about Azula much more than they're about Sokka, and it doesn't quite read right to me. And I guess in a certain way maybe Sokka and Azula are too similar for the ship to be truly compeling.

Anyways, those are just my personal opinions. Readers, please don't get mad because I don't like your ship.
