Today is a selfie day. 😢 Anyone who’s close to me, knows that these days are few and far between. 😞 For the last six months I’ve been battling multiple different issues, including skin issues which have me taking multiple medications and applying multiple ointments. 🧴 . Nowadays it’s more common to see me not wearing any make up, medicine on my face, and my hair pulled back with a bandanna on, not feeling like me. It saddens me. 😭 . Almost 20 years ago I came out as a transgender woman, and it’s been a wonderful 20 years! ❤️ I finally got to be me. 🌈 However with the skin condition that I’m dealing with, there are many days now where I look in the mirror and I don’t see me… I’m not going to lie, it’s hard… 😢 . But today is a good day. 🥹 I got to wake up, take a shower, do my hair and make up with a very little pain. 🥰 I know days like this are few and far between, but today I got to look in the mirror and see me. 🥰 So I thought I’d take a selfie… 🥹 . TODAY’S MY BIRTHDAY! 🎂 Today I turn 46!… I woke up to a fabulous bacon and eggs breakfast. Then I was told I needed to get ready because we are going on a trip at 8AM. . INNER STRENGTH

INNER STRENGTH | read in full… . Where does strength come from? Does it come from the mind? Does it come from the body? Does it come from the divine? . Strength can be measured many different ways, just the same, so can weakness. . We live in a world that caters to the weak and makes it difficult for those of us that work for what we have. On top of that, we are all surrounded by weak people that do not care about anything other than themselves. They do not place others above themselves, they expect others to provide for them and hold them up. . So if the odds are against those of us that have to work for everything that we have, how can we find the strength to keep going? . Yesterday in the Hombu we discussed the difference between setting goals and setting intentions. Both are different yet crucial. We also discussed the importance of understanding expectations and ended with the idea of fear, which will be covered more in tonight’s class. . Although goal setting and achievements can build strength, it is the strength of character that keeps us going. . For me, I have thousands of people all over the world that look up to me in the marital arts for training and direction. I have a small group of personal students at the Hombu Dojo, as well as the people in my life that I love and cherish very much. Being weak and looking for handouts is not the image I want to display at all. Having the inner strength to follow through with personal values is something that can be cultivated by training in the martial arts, and something that I discuss with my assistant Shihan Chantal Jacot all of the time, when we are developing teaching strategies for the students. . After we die, we all get one week where people will find out we died, think about us, feel sad and attend out funeral. After that week is over, most will be forgotten and replaced. Think about that, if you are weak, you will get one week after death. . My question to you… Have you been strong enough to do anything to make people think about you longer than one week after death? If not, why? . Are the relationships in your life, that you hold near and dear to your hearts, are they strong? If not, why? . Are you doing what you truly want to do with you life? If not, why? . The real question here is why?... Is it because you are not strong enough to stand up and go after the things that you want in life? . One of the weakest thoughts you can have is the idea or hope that “it” will be better tomorrow. The moment that you think that “it” will be better tomorrow, you have mentally accepted in your own mind that you are not in control of your own life. Now there are many different techniques that I teach, but changing the mindset slightly can drastically change your energy and the direction that you take in life. . Yes, you should set goals, set intentions and understand expectations. You should plan for tomorrow, but you must live today. There is a difference between living and dwelling. This weekend I’ll be hosting the annual Tomo Ryu Shinobijutsu Keiko! As the 21st Soke/Grandmaster of this ancient art, it is an honor for me to host this annual event & share the ancient teachings that I received from my master with my students. . According to legend, the origins of the Tomo Ryu tradition of Shinobijutsu was developed in the Kemmu Restoration (建武の新政) as a samurai tradition that had its primary focus on it's use of the short sword (kodachi) as well as several different kobuki (old weapons). It was during this time (1333-1336) in the Shiga prefecture (known as the Omi Province before the prefectural system was established) of Japan that Gohei Tomo and two other samurai (Jinsuke Tomo and Senri Akutagawa) developed this method of warfare to serve as a means of self-protection for their families, their village and their lord. .
