What Are Hard Skills?
Tumblr media
Now let’s get one thing straight. Pretty much any skill is teachable. You can learn just about anything if you devote enough time and effort to it. There’s a famous saying that it takes around 10,000 hours to master a skill. That’s not far off from the truth. The question, however, is if you have the necessary time for each skill. Some skills are inherent. They are part of our personality and the ingrained skill set that we have. Because they come so naturally to us, we hone them throughout our life and perfect them without much effort. Hard skills are NOT like that. They are teachable, quantifiable skills that are more of a technical nature. We acquire and hone them through learning. We might do that in a classroom, through book reading, or by getting practical on-the-job experience; either way, we learn them rather than naturally developing them and honing them. Sitting amidst the cosy company, or rather the sole company of my mobile device, I was wondering how would Covid-19 impact communication not just at the individual level but also in the deeper layers of the homes, offices, corporates. I must say, the whole global communication network has been and will be developed. Covid-19 changed the way the people around the globe conveyed ideas and information. Face to face interactions came to a standstill. But, do we all realise that value driven efforts, the mission of each organisation, vision that every corporate had for it employees in the near future could not afford to be stagnated. Trainings and learning programs were something which demanded intense rapport development with the participants face to face and interaction that was humane in nature devoid of the virtual channels per say. Social distancing and minimising contact amongst clients, colleagues coworkers and customers have become an essential part of Covid-19 exposure reducing measures. Reskilling has become essential instead of the previously followed Instructor Led Training.
"The measure of intelligence is the ability to change."- Albert Einstein
I lay there thinking how this one pandemic changed the whole world in a matter of moments so much that we all were accustomed to the various learning programs or corporate trainings in a setup where we could all work and learn in a team or group. The sound of the laughter of the trainees or even the answers and participation in activities still must be fresh in our ears.

✅By far, waking up early is worth it. Now you don’t have to excysmievly wake up early in the morning, considering you’re a night owl 🦉, because every one is different. However, would you like to operate in peace and quiet 🤫? That’s why I get up early 🌞. It’s complete silence and no one is up to bother me.👍 I’m able to beat traffic as well, enjoy my ☕️ coffee, and situate my self calmly on the office. Question is, how do you operate?🤔 👇Comment below your method and share this post so others can input their insight📲 #softskillstrainer #softskillstraining #personaldevelopmentcoach #highperformancehabits #highperformers #softskillsacademy #highperformancecoach (at Fort Worth, Texas) https://www.instagram.com/p/B9RrkF8p2KS/?igshid=1vsfht800ws87

Soft Skills Academy 2018 - Αθήνα: Κάτι παραπάνω από ένα απλό σεμινάριο ανάπτυξης soft skills
Tumblr media
Hard Skills vs. Soft Skills — A Team Effort
Tumblr media
In the matter of hard skills vs. soft skills, we’re not talking about an either/or situation. Perfect candidates are the ones that have:
i) The necessary hard skills for the job ii) The complimentary soft skills iii) And the foresight to showcase both in the right way.
If you’re thinking to yourself, “Boy, that’s a lot! Getting a job isn’t easy.” you’re entirely correct. Getting your dream job doesn’t just happen. You have to work for it and make sure the employer sees you as the ideal person for the job.
The only way to achieve that is to represent both your soft and hard skills in the right way. Of course, you ideally also have to have them all.
𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙏𝙧𝙞𝙛𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙖:
1. Hard skills that are a shoo-in for a specific job.
2. Soft skills that will make you an excellent addition to any team.
3. Displaying both on your resume and on the interview.
So, if getting a job is so hard (and it is), how do you do it? Well, in this guide, we’ll go over the fundamentals:
1. The difference between hard skills and soft skills
2. Which particular skills from both groups are the most important
3. How to highlight and showcase them on a resume
4. How to slip them in on an interview
Essentially, we’ll talk about how to use and exhibit (or, better said, flaunt a little) the exact skills you need to land a job quickly and effortlessly.

What Does Transferable Mean?
Tumblr media
>> Aside from that, soft skills are also much more transferable. >> What Does Transferable Mean? As I mentioned, soft skills are intangible. They aren’t as easy to measure. You can’t really test work ethic before you hire someone, right? 94% of recruiters look for soft skills in their potential employees. Why? Because they believe that soft skills are what make a person eligible for advancement. And to be a leader, you have to have transferable skills. Those are the skills that are portable — you can transfer them from one position to another. Most of your skills, even hard ones, are transferable, but soft skills like collaboration, teamwork, organization, etc., are transferable even if you’re switching fields. Even if the job you’re applying for is entirely different than the one you’re doing now (or have done in the past), your transferable skills will come in handy. They are what makes you employable. Of course, a great set of soft skills won’t necessarily land you a job on their own. You still have to be a good candidate in terms of hard skills. I’m not saying that you can get your dream job just based on being a good communicator and being adaptable. However, I am saying that without soft skills, your hard skills won’t matter as much. If a hiring manager has to choose between two equally educated candidates with similar backgrounds and experience, they will check their list of soft skills and hard skills to see which one is a better fit. If one of the candidates is a people person while the other is entirely anti-social, you know who will get the job offer, right? Don't Forget this: Hiring managers look for ideal candidates that are both a good fit for the role and the team. Soft skills reflect your ability to be a team player and a successful employee. Are Hard Skills the Be-All and End-All?
Tumblr media
There are skills that you can only learn in a classroom or from other people. Hard skills are just that. They are knowledge that has been passed on to you that you can prove you have. You either have a degree or previous experience that can vouch for your capabilities.
Hard skills take years to acquire; they take serious training and are easy to measure. With hard skills, employers know where they stand with all candidates because it’s easy to fact-check them.
Let’s say you’re applying for a job as a teacher. You are great with kids, can communicate with them without any issues, and your organizational skills are on point.
That’s amazing! It sounds like teaching is the right career choice for you! However, suppose you don’t have a teaching degree, along with the necessary technical knowledge of how to do everything the teaching job entails (such as lesson planning, report writing, etc.). In that case, you won’t get a teaching job no matter how good your interpersonal skills are.
The other way around is also true. If you can’t communicate properly with the kids and connect with them, and if you don’t have the leadership skills that will allow you to turn a room of unruly 8-year-olds into a room full of kids ready to listen and learn, then you most likely won’t get past the first round of interviews for a teaching job. Come to think of it; you might also not pass the resume stage (unless you showcase ALL your skills in the right way. But we’ll get to that later).
***57% of employers look for soft skills that match the job, the team, their company culture, and brand. However, 100% of them look for hard skills that match the job description. You might not need to have them all, but you do need to fill the most critical criteria to be considered for a specific role.***

Soft vs. Hard Skills
Tumblr media
As you probably gathered so far, soft skills aren’t something a high school or university class can teach you. Unlike your hard skills that have to do with your education or practical knowledge from your field of expertise, soft skills aren’t teachable. Well, soft skills aren’t teachable to the same extent as hard skills. No matter what it is that you do, your employer can always teach you something new. Maybe it’s a new program or a different approach to the job you haven’t thought of. However, they can never teach you to be a better communicator or change your personality traits. That’s how soft and hard skills differ. Aside from that, soft skills are also much more transferable.
Important: It’s harder to both teach and test soft skills (unlike hard skills). Although you can improve your soft skills, they mainly depend on your personality and character. Hiring managers like to know you already have them because that means you have the potential to be a great employee.

I love the fact that we all are changing with the times ahead of us. As a trainer myself, I believed in creating a connection naturally with people in a classroom setup where the natural flow of the training goes deeper beyond the training content itself. I know what you all must be thinking. When do we get back to the reclusive nature of our offices and workplaces? But here are a few reasons I can give you considering the fact that I have managed to create that same rapport online with my trainees. It’s about the wonderful trust you have in yourself as a trainer rather than the medium of communication. At the end of the day, the motive of the training has to be fulfilled as well as the result-oriented conclusions are attained......
