Amulet of Avalor questions and plotholes
Cedric grew up with Tilly and Roland.
Did Cedric know that Tilly had the amulet before Sofia?
In the pilot, when he saw Sofia had the amulet and learned from her that Roland gave it to her, he was genuinely shocked that the amulet had been in the palace all those years after he'd been studying and obsessing over it for so long.
Maybe Tilly acquired it after she left the castle to become an adventurer (I can't remember if it said). Or if she had it as a youth and Cedric knew she had it, maybe he thought she'd taken the amulet with her?
...Come to think of it, why did Tilly leave the amulet behind? And why didn't Elena choose Tilly as the one to save her, especially since Tilly was also a Storykeeper? I hc Elena didn't send Sofia the dream/visions that led her to Avalor to set Elena free- which happened in s3- until she was sure Sofia was the right one, so Sofia had proven herself in all that time... so, how did Tilly presumably fail to prove herself?
And the decades Elena was in the amulet, it fell into many other princess's hands. Why were none of them chosen to be the one to save Elena? And how did the amulet get acquired by so many other princesses?
Also, the amulet was in the castle's jewel room when Sofia arrived at the palace. Roland had gone in there to look for a something special to gift Sofia as a welcome gift. Elena got Roland's attention by letting the amulet sparkle or light up, or whatever, so he could see it. But how did Elena even know about Sofia's arrival and that Roland was looking for a welcome gift for her... unless he was talking to himself/thinking out about it while trying to decide?

My ramblings below the cut.
(If the drawing of Tilly, Cordelia, Roland, and Cedric bears resemblance to the cover of The Outsiders Broadway album ... I take no personal responsibility for how many times I've listened to it. It's just so good.)
The concept for this came off of a few different ideas that have bounced like ping pong balls around my head lately.
First was a post floating around about Baileywick and Cedric that has this screen still of Cedric where he's is creeping up behind Baileywick like my toddler does right before they pounce on me to ask for pony rides.
Anyhow, Cedric's posture in that post made me remember that Baileywick was easily about late twenties, early to mid-thirties around the time of The Incident. Meaning, Baileywick is a well established member of that adult generations' "safe adult" group prior to The Incident. (I very much see Baileywick as the person Cedric, Tilly, Roland, and Cordelia went to when their mothers weren't around for comfort. I also see him as the person they went to to hide their mistakes and messes from their fathers.)
Second, I just finished writing a story set after "In Cedric We Trust" and the story opens with Baileywick's perspective. The backstory I set for Baileywick had him and Nigel both really involved in the politics and life of the castle. But, it also put him deeply at the mercy of Roland I and Goodwyn's style of thinking. This leads to my next point.
Finally, I've also been quilting some pieces for "In the Flares of the Sun," and writing a few scenes between Baileywick and Cedric, or ones where they're heavily involved with each other even if neither of them is narrating, and I've found it really interesting to think about how Baileywick breaks down, not only his thoughts and notions about Cedric over time, but also how Baileywick gets time to reflect on these moments that he shared with this past generation.
I wanted Baileywick to have time to think about the things he misses from his being the "go to" person for the four of these, then children, now adults. I wanted him to have time to think about his own role in the mess that ended up happening. (And, it gets *messy.*) I wanted him to have time to think about his biases, his struggles, his career, and his mistakes. But, I also wanted him to be able to find forgiveness and peace, eventually.
Thus, this little doodle popped into my head
That said, I’m not sure how well practiced I am at drawing anymore, but I used to be an IB Art student back with the dinosaurs when I was in high school many, many moons ago.
My gimmick project was basically writing my own original poetry into cartoons/children's book style illustration either through artistic matting or by weaving it into composition. (There was a lot more to it than that, but that was the basics.)
Sadly, I don’t even own a functional scanner anymore. I tried to get zoomed in shots of the individual panels, but they refused to turn out without getting shadows of my phone and fingers in the way of the shots. (Hopefully, everything is still legible without the individual panel shots.)
I truly haven’t tried doing this type of composition in … almost twelve years? But, as this is my “week of throwbacks,” since I will be turning thirty next week. I gave myself some doodle time for pleasure since, as a parent of a toddler, I rarely get time to draw anymore and I (secretly, not so secretly) still love doing it. I rarely draw in black and white, but this was fun. I will definitely do it again.
I did my very best with the characters. Most of the time now, I just draw clothes because I sketch fashion designs for the characters in my novels so I know what they're wearing and how it would move in space when they're doing stuff. And, I hardly ever draw kids. So, that was an adventure for me.
Also, I have always struggled to draw hands. I lost patience towards the end, and since this was meant to be for pleasure, I just sort of gave up on Sofia's hand.
This got long. Anyway. Enjoy the art. Maybe, next year, I'll make another doodle because it will honestly probably take me that long to draw again.

Headcanon: Yellow and Green.
When Lorelei and Roland II were expecting the baby, they had agreed on the colors of the clothes:
Yellow if it was a girl, green if it was a boy.
Yellow because it was her mother's favorite color, green because it was a mix of his father's and mother's colors, as Roland II didn't want to pressure his son to be like him.
Lorelei wanted if it was a boy, that he would look like his father. And Roland wanted if he was a girl, to look like her mother.
When Aunt Tilly and Lorelei were preparing baby shower layette, they were talking about whether the baby would be born a boy or a girl, in addition to speculating on each one's personality. Cedric was with the king, when he realized his magic wand was missing.
He realized that he had picked up a knitting needle by mistake, and that the wand could have gotten one of them by mistake, and that he should get it back before some dangerous accident happens.
When Cedric went to meet them, he noticed that they had their wand, using it as a knitting needle.
When both started knitting, they noticed that the baby clothes and blankets changed color each time they said their guesses.
They liked the result so much that Lorelei asked him to place the same spell on the rest of the balls of yarn, so that they would also have the magic of changing color.
And to this day, the signature color between the twins remains, as a reminder of their mother.

Plot hole: Roland said he didn't know that Tilly was the first heir to the throne, but in a flashback it was clear that everyone knew it, even him.
Something that confuses me a lot is a plot hole in Sofia The First.
In the episode "A Royal Wedding", we find out that Roland never knew that the kingdom is passed through the first born child to the first born child, he thought that it was passed from father to son, and he thought that he himself was choosen as a king because of that, because even though he is the younger child of his parents he is the male son, and that is why he is a king.
And that is incorrect, he only turned into a king because his older sister, Matilda (aunt Tilly) refused the throne.
Roland got so confused because he didn't know about that law, but in other episode, that happens before this one (Through The Looking Back Glass) we see that Matilda was indeed treated as the heir to the throne and her dad tells her to behave apropriately to the role she will have in the future (as a queen)
Tumblr media
This scene happened during a ball. She is visibilly dressed like a queen in training should, and everyone seems to know this, since her father is publicly calling her out about her behavior.
Her brother, Roland, isn't even wearing a crown.
Tumblr media
It makes no sense how everyone apparently knew that Tilly was going to be the queen, specially her family, except for Roland.
You can watch some parts of this scene in the minute 01:10 of this video:
youtube
It makes no sense at all, unless Roland forgot it. But I don't think that this is something you can simply "forget".

Sketches of young and old Roland II and Tilly I made. Their child designs are really cute, and also I think it's funny how tall he becomes compared to her. Are these two separate artworks, or is this some kind of time travel/future/past vision scenario? You decide!

A very quick and low effort CordeTilly, thanks to @drzone inspiring me
Specifically them as teens because I like the idea of them being each others escape when the pressure they’re under becomes too much

"You'll never see Any scars or wounds- I don't walk on coals, I won't walk on water: I am no prince, I am no saint, I am not anyone's wildest dream, But I can stand behind And be someone to fall back on." - "Someone to Fall Back On;" Jason Robert Brown
***
Once upon a time, before a summer evening and a spell gone wrong, there were two little boys who sat under stars and chased each other through leaves. They ran, they laughed, they played, and they sang. For so long, cares flew like birds far, far away.
Until one fateful summer day, when everything changed.
Baileywick remembers how he half raised those boys.
Miranda never knew them.
Roland has found himself again.
James, Amber, and Sofia are finding the pieces of a puzzle their grandfather left behind.
Tilly reconnects with one of her oldest friends.
While Cedric is left to wonder just how much he can trust them with all that's passed between "once upon a time" and where the journey's gone.
A brief prequel to "In the Flares of the Sun" set in the aftermath of "In Cedric We Trust."
The first chapter is up. I have the first 3 of the 6 finished completely. And, I'm almost done with chapter 4. (2/3s completed and edited, the last 1/3 is just being kind of finished up a little bit.) 5 and 6 are very much written in my head. So, hopefully, this will be done soon so I can jump back into my main project. You don't *need* this fic to understand "In the Flares" but I discovered that it will help. Hence, why I went and decided to pause the other story and go back and write this first. I just sets up the whole plot and dynamics of the other story much better.

An alternate universe where Aunt Tilly is the queen of Enchancia and Cordelia is her royal sorceress.
(Both Tilly and Cordelia did not take over the succession, even though they were the oldest in the their families. Stepping down so that his younger brothers, Roland II and Cedric, could take over.)
Maybe there could be a storyline where Tilly and Cordelia are secretly not feeling fulfilled in their roles, but they must keep up appearances.
While Roland and Cedric would also like to have taken over their positions. Cedric tries to suggest that Roland convince the two to step down. However, Roland refuses, because he thinks his sister is happy as queen.
