You had always loved flowers. The way their colors, textures, and delicate petals created effortless beauty. Your small flower shop, nestled in a cozy corner of the city, wasn’t just a business—it was your sanctuary, your calm amidst the chaos.

Today was one of those peaceful days where time seemed to slow down, the scent of fresh blooms hanging sweetly in the air as the golden light of late afternoon poured in through the windows.

Your fingers carefully wrapped a bouquet for a client, your focus steady on the task at hand. The bell above the door jingled softly, signaling a new arrival, but you didn’t look up right away.

“I’ll be with you in a second!” you called out, finishing the last delicate twist of ribbon before setting the bouquet down.

A familiar voice—warm, teasing—answered, “Take your time. I’m not in a rush.”

You felt a smile tug at your lips as you glanced up, already knowing who it was. Jake stood by the counter, leaning casually against it, his hair falling in soft waves over his forehead. His eyes held that mischievous glint that always made your heart do an involuntary little flip. He was here again, just like he had been nearly every afternoon for the past few months.

“You know,” you said, putting your hands on your hips and raising an eyebrow, “I’m starting to think you only come here to distract me from work.”

Jake’s lips quirked into a smirk, leaning in slightly. “Guilty as charged. But can you blame me? You’re way more interesting than any of these flowers.”

Your cheeks warmed at his words, but you rolled your eyes in response, trying to play it cool. “If you’re not buying flowers, you’re not helping my business, Jake.”

“Oh, but who says I’m not buying flowers?” he countered smoothly, straightening up.

Before you could reply, Jake placed a bouquet on the counter—one you hadn’t noticed before. It was filled with your favorite flowers—lavender roses, baby’s breath, and dahlias, all arranged with the kind of care that made your heart swell. You blinked, caught off guard.

“Wait, did you… buy these?” you asked, glancing from the bouquet to him, utterly confused. After all, you were the florist here. What was he doing buying flowers?

Jake shrugged nonchalantly, his smile growing. “Why not? They reminded me of you.”

You bit back a laugh, shaking your head in disbelief. “Jake, I own a flower shop. You don’t need to buy flowers for me. I’m literally surrounded by them.”

“Yeah, but none of these are from me,” he said, his voice light, teasing, but with an underlying softness that made your heart skip. His gaze held yours, and for a brief second, the shop felt quieter, the space between the two of you buzzing with unspoken tension.

You let out a small laugh, trying to ignore the way your chest tightened. “You’re impossible,” you muttered, reaching out to touch the petals. The flowers were perfect—fresh and vibrant, and knowing they were chosen for you, by him, made them feel even more special.

“Maybe,” he replied, crossing his arms and leaning back against the counter again, his eyes never leaving yours. “But admit it, you like it.”

Your heart fluttered at his words, and you looked away, unable to hold back the grin spreading across your face. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Oh, sure you don’t.” Jake’s tone was playful, but there was something deeper there too. He loved seeing you like this—flustered, giggling, the walls you’d so carefully built starting to crumble every time he came around. He reached out and lightly flicked the end of your nose, making you swat his hand away.

“You’re so annoying,” you laughed, shaking your head.

“I try my best,” he said, his smirk softening into something more genuine.

For a moment, the two of you stood there, the soft hum of the city outside barely audible against the quiet intimacy of the shop. You glanced back down at the bouquet, still feeling the warmth of his gesture. It wasn’t the first time Jake had done something like this—bringing you coffee in the mornings, showing up unannounced just to chat, slipping in compliments disguised as jokes. You weren’t blind to the hints, the way he looked at you, or the way he seemed to always be around. But neither of you had ever pushed past the comfortable, unspoken boundary you’d settled into.

Not yet, anyway.

You cleared your throat, needing to break the silence before your thoughts spiraled. “So… what am I supposed to do with these? Add them to my collection of ‘Jake’s unnecessary yet sweet gestures’?”

Jake chuckled. “I don’t know, maybe you could just appreciate them.”

“I do appreciate them,” you replied, feeling a little defensive but mostly just shy. You reached for the bouquet, bringing it closer to your face to inhale the soft, floral scent. “They’re beautiful. Thank you.”

He smiled, his gaze softening. “Good.”

You placed the bouquet in a vase, letting your fingers trail over the petals as you arranged them on the counter. The simple act of him bringing you flowers—your flowers—made your heart flutter in a way that surprised you. It wasn’t just the flowers, though. It was Jake, and the way he was always there, making you feel seen in ways that no one else had.

“You know,” you started, glancing at him out of the corner of your eye, “you’re going to have to stop doing this at some point. People are going to start asking why the florist keeps getting flowers.”

Jake laughed softly, leaning closer to you with that ever-present smirk. “Let them wonder.”

Your heart raced at the proximity, his presence both comforting and exhilarating. “You’re ridiculous.”

“Maybe. But you love it.”

You felt the words hit you square in the chest, the easy, flirtatious rhythm between the two of you suddenly feeling heavier, more real. But before you could think of a response, Jake pushed himself off the counter, straightening up and flashing you that signature grin.

“Gotta go,” he said, backing toward the door. “But I’ll see you tomorrow?”

“Sure,” you replied, your voice a little breathless as you watched him leave.

The door jingled as he exited, leaving you alone with the bouquet and the lingering warmth of his presence. You sighed, a small smile tugging at your lips.

Jake was impossible. But maybe that’s exactly what you liked about him.

mannnn i know we've been doing this challenge since december but i feel like now its kind of flying. In this elimination there will be 3 sims going back home. its ALWAYS hard to get through the eliminations.Especially since Scar really loved being around all of them and gaining some new friends. there were a few sadly who lost interest in here almost completely after the solo date. even after being in the same house together they just werent into her that much and thats totally cool. i want to thank you guys again for spending time on your sims and sending them on over here for scar. i hope that i showcased your babies properly :) the next bit of this bc will feature not as many solo dates. itll focus on challenges where the top two will get the solo date. there will be a group date and then eliminations. 3 are going home during this one. 2 will be going home on the next bit and then we'll do the one by one elimination. Eliminations are based on who has the lowest friendship and romance level with Scar by the time it rolls around. and honestly some of these did surprise me.

Acredito que sempre haja receio em ler obras que se tratam de spin-offs, prequels ou continuações de séries que já conhecemos e amamos. Em 2020, após dez anos do último lançamento relacionado a Jogos Vorazes, temos em mãos ‘A Cantiga dos Pássaros e das Serpentes’, que se passa no mesmo universo, mas se trata de um prelúdio que foca na história e adolescência do temível e detestável Presidente Snow.

Suzanne Collins é escritora e roteirista de ficção científica e literatura infanto-juvenil, seu talento para a escrita é inegável e o sucesso da série de livros e filmes de Jogos Vorazes comprovam isso. Aqui temos uma leitura pesada, mas não por culpa da escrita da autora e sim pelos temas tratados que nos geram choque e incômodo. Trata-se de um livro extenso que contém mais de 500 páginas e ainda assim foi uma leitura rápida já que era quase impossível largar o livro depois de tê-lo iniciado. 

“Ambição o alimentará. Competição o conduzirá. Mas o poder tem seu preço.” Uma história que se passa antes mesmo de Katniss, do Distrito 13 e da Revolução. Aqui acompanhamos a décima edição dos Jogos Vorazes, Coriolanus Snow é um jovem da Capital que está se preparando para ser mentor de um dos tributos selecionados nesta edição. Apesar de um dia terem possuído riquezas e status, hoje a casa Snow sofre as consequências da guerra enfrentando a fome e a pobreza e ainda assim tentando manter as aparências para a sociedade. Ser mentor nos Jogos Vorazes pode ser sua oportunidade de ascensão social, mas essa oportunidade depende do sucesso de seu tributo nos Jogos, mas a sorte não parece estar a seu favor.

Ele é designado para a Lucy Gray, a garota tributo do Distrito 12, uma tarefa humilhante por se tratar do pior dos Distritos, sua chance de sucesso parece mínima, sequer existente, mas agora ele precisa concentrar seus esforços em torná-la a vencedora da edição, seu fracasso pode significar a completa ruína do nome Snow. Ele sabe que na arena será uma questão de vida ou morte para Lucy, mas fora da arena ele começa a se apegar a garota, cujo destino parece já ter sido selado. Ele pode seguir as regras, mas o desejo de vencer e de manter seu tributo vivo farão com que essa história tome rumos diferentes.

É incrível ver que mesmo após tanto tempo, ainda temos uma história nova e que nos surpreende, mas sem deixar a essência de Jogos Vorazes para trás. Temos um enredo muito mais maduro, com mais camadas, com problemas sociais mais densos e questionamentos que precisam de reflexão e essas questões vão levar os agora adultos que leram jogos vorazes na adolescência a pensar, questionar e compreender melhor tudo o que a autora quis debater aqui.

Vemos como o desespero leva as pessoas a cometerem atrocidades, o livro aborda o canibalismo e a falta de acesso a saúde como consequências do pós-guerra, como as próprias pessoas da Capital se prostituem para conseguir o mínimo para sobreviver e poder manter as aparências, e refletindo sobre tudo que o jovem Snow passa é impossível não odiá-lo ainda mais pela forma como ele trata os tributos anos depois, mas ainda assim, isso não é algo surpreendente. Desde sempre a Capital tenta desumanizar as pessoas dos Distritos, chegando a tratá-los literalmente como animais, prendendo-os em jaulas e lhes negando um tratamento adequado, os usando em experimentos e os torturando física e psicologicamente desde a colheita até a Arena quando mesmo lutando por suas vidas eles ainda precisam resistir às armações criadas pelos idealizadores dos jogos. 

Muitos podem pensar que se trata de uma história para humanizar o vilão, mas isso está longe de ser verdade. A escrita de Suzanne Collins ao mesmo tempo que nos intriga, nos engana. O Presidente Snow nunca foi um jovem apaixonado, ou um menino inocente que sofreu com a perda dos pais após a guerra, desde a adolescência vemos que Coriolanus Snow é egoísta, sorrateiro e calculista. Riqueza, sucesso e poder são tudo o que importa para ele e ele passaria por cima de tudo e de todos para conseguí-los. Essa história além de não humanizá-lo nos mostra como essas características o levaram a posição de presidente que ele ocupa anos depois.

Tudo aqui faz sentido, e a cereja do bolo é o título do livro que traz a serpente como esse animal traiçoeiro e ardiloso, e o pássaro como um animal que canta e anseia pela liberdade. Características que podem ser associadas aos personagens de Snow e Lucy Gray, mas as características que vemos nele, ele mesmo não enxerga em si e as relaciona a Lucy. O epílogo que fecha o livro não poderia ser melhor, o encerramento dessa história é excepcional, Suzanne Collins nos mostra toda sua genialidade e a evolução de sua escrita nesse livro além de fazer ligações e referências sutis a Jogos Vorazes mesmo a história de Katniss se passando mais de 50 anos depois.

Não há elogios o suficiente para descrever a experiência que foi ler esse livro, uma leitura que recomendo fortemente, ainda mais levando em consideração que o filme já foi confirmado e em poucos meses chega aos cinemas. Minhas expectativas para o livro eram baixas e fui fortemente surpreendida, agora as expectativas para o filme estão nas alturas, ainda mais levando em conta o elenco de peso do filme, que vai contar com nomes como Viola Davis e Peter Dinklage. Se a adaptação de ‘A Cantiga dos Pássaros e das Serpentes’ chegar perto do que foram as adaptações de Jogos Vorazes, tenho certeza de que teremos uma obra sensacional nos esperando.

Biologically she's Aleksey's mother but they don't have a mother/son relationship. He calls her Sof. She's in her 40s.

She's the chaotic younger sibling and was a kid with boundless energy and a tendency to boss people around. She was often berated for being too loud or assertive "for a girl".

She would scoff at this and deny it, but she's gifted musically. She has an ear for it. As a child she took piano lesson but she plays guitar these days which is mostly self-taught. When she sings, her voice carries all her raw emotions, and it's mesmerizing in a way that's hard to witness.

Verona initially planned to go to LFT with her twin brother and even got a dorm room on campus, but she changed her mind at the very last moment, transferring to Le Tour instead. She prefers milder climate.

Her friends make sure to check in on her often; Sofia Baldwin calls Verona every morning. [For real! I'm not sure what it depends on, but I really like it when certain sims decide they're gonna be calling their friend's cell daily.]

Why are rain frogs so round? What's /inside/ of them around such an itty bitty skeleton?

So it turns out this is a really interesting question.

The first thing we must be aware of is that rainfrogs as we see them in videos of them squeaking are not quite the same shape as they are when at rest:

But you are quite right, they are very round. This is exemplified by the skeletal photo you refer to:

So what are we seeing?

Well, firstly, note that the body cavity in these frogs actually envelops the femurs, such that only the tibiofibula (fused in frogs) and the tarsals and metatarsals are outside the body. The arms are quite similarly enveloped, but a bit of the humerus does extend outside the body cavity too. This predisposes them to a rounder body shape.

Next, note the ilia - the U-shaped bone in the pelvic region. These in some breviceptid frogs are synostotically fused with the sacrum - that is to say, they are bound by bone-based connections to the bow-shaped vertebra at their tips. This whole joint seems to be quite smooth, and as a consequence, the back of the frog is quite smooth. The other thing we can see here is that the urostyle (i.e. the frog version of a coccyx) juts quite far beyond the ischium and pubis. This extends the body cavity beyond the hips. Note also that the pelvic girdle seems to be largely below the spine, rather than the typical position for frogs behind it and continuous with it. This makes the legs sit below the spine, rather than at its end, enhnacing the vertical roundness of the animal.

Next, let’s talk some soft tissue. Now, I’m not as familiar with soft-tissue in frogs as I am their skeletons, so you’ll have to bear with me a bit (rawr). Beddard (1908!!) studied the soft tissue of Breviceps verrucosus Rapp 1842. It seems that the majority of the body of these frogs is actually muscle. Beddard noted that muscles join the leg at the knee that extend into the body cavity, such that the inclusion of the thigh in the body cavity is further accentuated by musculature. The rectus abdominalis muscle is unusually large, extending from the lower abdomen up and around the sides of the body. Indeed, this large size appears to be the pattern with all of the major muscles, though in the throat the typical arrangement of large and small muscles is somewhat reversed. On the lateral side of the head, there is a substance that is not muscle, but appears to be loose tissue in which sits what is apparently the thymus gland.

There is a very large gap between the end of the urostyle and the anus (one fifth of the total length of the frog), in which there are almost no muscles, save for the one surrounding the lower cloaca. On either side of this area, between the posterior-most muscles of the thigh, lie two large ‘lymph-hearts’, as described by Beddard. These are between one quarter and one third of the total length of the frog. A further lypmh-sac sits between these lymph-hearts and the skin of the femoral region, and they are thus probably analogous to the femoral lymph-sacs of other frogs.

I find it interesting that Beddard (1908) did not mention any glandular formations in the dorsal region. As is evidence from many images (see below), these frogs are able to secrete a white, sticky, noxious substance from their skin (which they actually have to use during amplexus, as the male is too small relative to the female to mount her properly, and so he sticks himself to her with his glandular glue… kinky).

These glands do not apparently take up a great deal of the cutaneous tissue, and so I suppose are of no consequence to the size of the frog, especially relative to its enormous muscles.

The diet of these frogs consists almost exclusively of hymenopterans and isopterans (ants and termites). Neither of these insect groups are particularly fatty, so it is little surprise that their bodies appear to contain no large fat deposits - fatty bodies extend from the gonads up to the lungs and heart, but these comprise only a tiny fraction of the frog’s mass, and don’t contribute to the round shape. Instead, their bodies are extremely muscular, allowing them to be adept burrowers, ideal for their fossorial lifestyle.

So TL;DR: rain frogs are little balls of muscle (maybe the largest muscle mass relative to body mass of any vertebrate? science just doesn’t know).
