Angel's and Buffy's first meeting is hilarious because Angel is Angel and he has to be mysterious and brooding or he will immideatly burst into flames (a second, less acknowledged effect of his curse) and Buffy is Buffy and she has to have a comeback to everything, context be damned, so:

B: Who are you? (Reasonable question, granted he just followed her into an alley)

A: A friend. (Way to go! That makes it so much clearer)

B: Maybe I don't want a friend! (Kind of a random comeback but okay)

A: I never said I was yours. (OKAY BUT IT WAS IMPLIED!!? Like, based on context, who else was she supposed to think that you were talking about!?

I just love interactions where both parties are seemingly competing for Most Socially Awkward of the Year!!!

Hello ! I positively adore the running joke of Idia unknowingly finding Lilia to be the coolest guy ever whenever he doesn't know it's him, like when Silver described his father, or obviously with muscle red. I can't say what'd be funnier, Idia finding out his online best friend is actually Lilia, resident spooky hyper fairy; or them both never finding out, and it'd become even more ridiculous as time goes on. How do you think it'll play out ? You're always so on point

(Also, though it makes sense, I'm still devastated bat boy didn't get a ticket for the Halloween skeleton train : ( does anyone mentions him at some point ? Like how he'd have fit right in with all those Halloween town little freaks, and how he'd have impressed them with his spooks and scared techniques; after all he's been every Briar Valley's children worst fear on Halloween for centuries. I'm on the eng server and I didn't wanna spoil myself by watching the whole thing on youtube)

you and me both, Idia and Lilia being oblivious online BFFs (+ Idia being incredibly intimidated any time Silver brings up his jock gamer dad) is my favorite running joke/subplot. 🤝 it's SO good, to the point where I also am unsure if I actually want it to ever be resolved or not...maybe, like, as a post-canon stinger or something? everyone's standing around covered in overblot ink, and Idia and Lilia's phones go off at the same time...

(legit I do think this is part of why Idia couldn't be present for Lilia's dream, because for some reason Lilia decided he was going to just. embody his past self online. he probably quotes his own battle strategies or whatever in the middle of boss fights. Idia didn't pick up on the whole "oh how weird that we both live on a super remote island" thing, but he would spend thirty seconds listening to General Lilia describing siege warfare and be like "w-wait")

all that aside, however it does end up happening, I do see Lilia being very blasé and all "oh! cool!" about it. y'know, taking it very much in stride! and Idia...very much not.

as for Lilia sadly missing out on Halloweentown shenanigans...he does get one little mention as part of an offhand reference to the light music club, but so far no one has brought up how this basically is just Lost In the Book of Liliatown (Sebek's been too busy yelling about not getting to be in the same group as Malleus). 😔 honestly though, it's probably for the best that he got left out, because he would just settle right in and refuse to ever leave. canon would shatter. we would miss out on all the delightful angst of episode 7 because Lilia is too busy eating poisonous shrubbery inbetween practicing his very best screams, and no one can pull him away from it.

(I can hope for a sequel next year though...)

Ngl I'm really annoyed with how the fandom is treating Darius in S2-

Yes his confession was awkward, Darius himself is awkward

And from what I've seen, people criticizing him are forgetting that 1. Darius said in S1 that he had never had a crush before, and 2. That he told Brooklyn by ACCIDENT.

And that's what we see in S2! It was awkward because Darius doesn't socialize well, and it was an accident. He asked Brooklyn what happened (because all she told him was that her and Kenji broke up) she told him a VERY overlooked version of what happened, and he didn't understand, so he did what Darius does, and he rambles, the confession slipped out because SHE WAS NEVER SUPPOSED TO KNOW.

People are forgetting that the confession was a complete fucking accident.

It slipped out! It wasn't ever meant to happen.

And his little "unless? 🥺" Was him trying to explain that,,, he's interested in her, but he respects that she doesn't want anything, but if she does want something, he's interested.

I don't ship dinostar,,, at all, personally I find the ship unhealthy for different reasons, but the multiple people I've seen hating on Darius piss me off.

I’m rotating the “his name is Bren, and he is very intelligent” scene in my head again, but not for the reason you think.

Essek’s vibes in that scene are very different compared the ostensibly similar interaction from episode 95: Essek makes passing reference to a partner, Bells Hells inquires further, Essek answers. But while his response in e95 exudes warmth and affection, now he is strangely… matter-of-fact? oddly serious? distracted? without apparent cause for this change.

I used the transcript version to label the scene, but in reality, the cadence is more like, “His name is Bren. And he is, um… very intelligent.” And during that pause, his brow furrows and he looks down, and his face stays there for the rest of the sentence and halfway into the next one.

I’m struggling to triangulate the tone of voice because it’s not quite dismissive, but it does seem like he is trying to sate their curiosity and be done with it, which is, again, quite unlike how he spoke about Caleb in e95.

Then he sighs and says, “I’m sorry. If my anxiety shows, there’s something about—I dislike not knowing what’s coming, especially given the stakes […]. There are few things I hate more than not knowing.” And I thought that was interesting because 1) relatable, but more importantly 2) he made a mental jump over the course of that sigh and I needed to know what it was.

It’s an easy enough conclusion to come to: his vibes were off because he was anxious. He’s anxious because he’s dealing with a lot of unknowns.

It’s a small character detail and it’s not new, but this instance of it has been spinning in my brain all day. Essek shutters himself a bit when he’s anxious and in new situations. He isn’t necessarily short in his answers and he doesn’t quite have a flat affect, but there is an emotional shuttering. I’m not sure if he’s cutting himself off from his emotions as well or just others—that could be an interesting facet to explore—but it makes him hard to read and he comes off weird. And I love it, it’s such a tasty character beat om nom nom nom

And! While I think it was pretty obvious that he was doing this conscious letting down of walls a lot as he befriended the m9, look at how quick he is now to articulate what’s happening and adjust accordingly! It’s still a little awkward and disjointed, but he’s been practicing over these seven years!!! I’m proud of him!!!!

Vlad is usually pretty bad at dealing with humans on a personal level. good thing cats aren’t people.

after his plans for the Fentons fell through, Vlad put all his energy into his cat, Maddie. soon, cats took over his personal life and he had a small army of furry companions. but since there were only so many cats he could take care of himself, he started funding animal shelters. and the most underfunded shelters happened to be in one Gotham city.

He didn’t plan on the Wayne child also volunteering undercover at shelters, or beginning to see him as more of a son. Maybe it just took someone just as bad at dealing with people as him to start feeling human again.

idk i just think it’s a little weird that almost every character who gets the “innocent baby” / “little ray of sunshine” treatment usually ends up just having neurodivergent traits and actual negative traits in the show that nobody pays attention to. like idk man it just feels like diet infantilization to me and it’s a teeny weeny bit uncomfortable to see all the time

I would like to thank @ispridestillasin for their post about Murray Mysteries, I'm obsessed with this podcast now. For any Dracula Daily and Re: Dracula enjoyers, I highly recommend.

It's Modern AU Dracula in podcast form, and it's excellent. All the emotional beats and broad storytelling strokes from the original are still there, but the details are more modern and fun.

Some of the characters are genderbent, so we have Abigail Van Helsing, Jane Seward, and nonbinary Art Holmwood. Almost all of the core characters are canonically queer. Quincy is still a lovable himbo who shoots at bats.

I really, really love this. I think the rest of the Dracula Daily/Re: Dracula fandom would too.

Just the way he’s seen sketched out a dozen times. And he’s only mildly surprised by your hair color, because obviously you’d have something fabulously different. But he never imagined your eyes to be this shade of e/c or to literally be sparkling underneath those fluffy lashes. And to see the pink flesh of your pronounced cupids bow pout and then pull taught into a warm smile at him. Everything about this is overwhelming - you’re his fucking fictional crush. The one he swears he’d marry if you were real and by some god-damn miracle getting nailed by a quirk finally worked for him.
