Continuing to be fascinated by this conversation / interview between Yuzuru Hanyu and Shigesato Itoi:
Hanyu
I feel like kids who do figure skating nowadays see it as more of a sport. Like they’d see how many variations they can jump. When it comes to jumps, you can’t necessarily just think about it forever—at some point you’ll face the answer to what you can do. Expression is a whole different story. It’s more philosophical, so you can think about it forever and ever and never reach a true answer. Jumps, however, have a set definition of success and there’s an actual correct answer for it. So to some extent, there’s only so much you can think about it.
Itoi
In other words, it’s easy to assume if you practice jumping a lot you’ll be able to do it. People tend to see that as a matter of hard work, but that might be something that actually makes it easy in the end—all you have to do is try it over and over again.
Hanyu
Ah, that’s true.

Makoto Naegi (DR) - Yandere Profile
Tumblr media
Me? Producing non-genshin profiles? Releasing two profiles in one day? It’s more likely than you think!
I’ll probably do my boi Hajime eventually too. I got several dangan requests so I’m gonna start with this one and do those gradually too.
Makoto is the perfect classic, traditional yandere. He fits every trope and aspect of the archetype so well, so I just had to make him a delusional, split persona type. It's a bit ooc of course but I just see him being that type to really snap and have a whole new persona underneath. Bless him. I love soft sweet boys and turning them into nasty lil obsessive gremlins. Also I couldn't decide on a setting/version of him, so I talk mostly about a normal Makoto in normal school life, but also what he'd be like during the killing game as well as a side of Mastermind Makoto bc I'm a sucker for mastermind AUs. Note, he's 18 or older in all of these, of course.
-----
Tws: stalking, obsessive behaviors, manipulation, nsfw mentions, mentions of permanent mutilation, voyeurism Tws: (below cut) - voyeurism mention, noncon, Makoto being awful Additional warnings: very minor spoilers for Danganronpa 1
-----
What are they generally like? Lucid, aware? Obsessive? How do they behave?
Bounces between lucidity and delusion. DR1 Makoto is probably largely influenced by the stress of, you know, threat of imminent death, but even outside of such a situation, he'd be a very well hidden yandere. He's just so sweet! So gentle! You can't really seem him as threatening at all, so a lot of subtle things might go unnoticed, like how touchy he can be, how his stares linger, how people seem to avoid you when he's around. However, while the yandere side isn't obvious, the crush certainly is. He's a blushing boy, will get flustered the moment you speak to him, is constantly stumbling over his words, nervously scratching the back of his head, looking all over everywhere except at you, eyes darting away.
Obsessive. It defines his yandere side. Everything is about the obsession, the worship, it's overwhelming. The desire to kidnap you is partially protective, sure, but really? He also just wants you close, he wants you all to himself, he could just be happy looking at you forever. Stalker for sure. He's a classic style stalker, one to take lots and lots of pictures. His phone is handy for the ones that need more of a... secretive approach, but for the ones that he can take safely, from a distance, or the ones of you sleeping, they look best in polaroids.
He would definitely be one to steal things, particularly clothes. Wait until you go to do your laundry, and when you're there he'll do something like pull the fire alarm, cause something to fall over, and wait for everyone else to leave or investigate before slipping in - surely you won't notice just a few pieces of clothes missing, right? Just some gym clothes you worked out in, they smell so much like you, and some underwear you won't miss. They're just cute is all. Not for any perverted purposes, nope. He'd have a shrine, too. He'd steal creepy shit like soda cans you threw away, pens you held. He'd use his phone or one of those cameras from the mono machine to get as many photos as possible, running over them late at night, going through each one and rubbing one out to every photo he can get of your soft, innocent expression.
Deceptively intelligent. It's his number one trick. He comes off as a very... average person in pretty much every way, it's literally his character trope at first, but as we know, he's actually particularly intelligent and perceptive. Most people don't realize this, though, and it gives him an advantage. He is aware that he's perceived as a bit of an innocent, naive airhead, and will utilize that perception, which allows him to get away with quite a bit by feigning ignorance or innocence.
A split personality bouncer. Classic yandere style. Sweet, innocent, happy, but if you just keep fucking pushing the limits he'll - no, forget that, it's ok, he understands :)  ....THAT kind of yandere. He spends the majority of the time on the sweet side, but, especially as time goes on, can easily snap to a much meaner, darker persona, but it's not how he is the majority of the time. It's only brought out by excess stress from all of the... complication of things involving you.
Speaking of how he has all the makings of a classic yandere, delusional regarding love as well. Highly convinced that you'll love him eventually, convinced that everyone is out to take you away from him, and convinced that he knows what's best for you. Perhaps a bit surprisingly, he falls into this delusion pretty easily and quickly. He's likely got a bit of an inferiority complex given, you know, being the "normal" person among some of the best people in their fields. He likes the idea of anything that can give him a sense of importance, of value, of being needed, and he chooses to project that into your protection.
How likely are they to kidnap their darling? How quickly will they do so?
Normal schoolboy Makoto, well, he'd have to find a way. He wants to, really, the moment he meets you, but how can he do that? He lives in a dorm. If you went missing, surely they'd investigate the dorms right? He'd ultimately probably end up running away with you, finding some way to get by while he keeps you safely locked up in some tiny apartment somewhere.
As for the how, he would take a very traditional method. Ask you to meet him at a certain place and time behind the school, and you'll never see it coming, be it chloroform or a blunt object or whatever he chooses. You wouldn't suspect someone as sweet as him to ever be planning anything of the sort. He feels bad for hurting you, but it's for a greater purpose. Within minutes he'll have you stuffed in a sports bag or instrument case or something of the like, carrying you off, and no one will no where you could have gone.
Will definitely be that one that gets interviewed by the news on TV, the best friend of the poor girl that went missing, and he's all sniffly and teary while talking about how much he misses you, how he's so worried about you. He's actually a very good actor when he really, really needs to be. It's also his way of atonement, in a sense. If he can show how much he cares about you, even if it's in a situation where he's lying, it makes him feel better.
DR1 Makoto, well, he'll be virtually immediate. Don't you understand the gravity of the situation? You could DIE! He can't let that happen. You may be insistent that it's ok, that you want to all try and work together, but in his mind, you just don't understand how serious this all is. You're just too naive. The only solution is immediate action. He'll be gentle about it, probably lacing your tea or coffee with something he found laying around in the nurse's office to make you just a little bit sleepy, so dazed you won't even realize he's guiding you back to a room that isn't yours, won't even hear yourself being tied up.
If the others ask what happened to you, well, he'll say he has no idea. They'll likely assume you're simply dead. After all, if a body isn't discovered, how would there be a trial? They search and search but no one ever finds a body. How strange.
He might simply tell them you're paranoid and holed up in your room. It's ok, though, you trust him to bring you food, so they don't need to worry about you. As for the trials, well, you can't participate in those if you're unconscious, now can you?
As for MM! Makoto, well... Who's to say this isn't his way of kidnapping you? You're separated from that awful awful outside world. That's The whole point of it all, all of this was for you. To isolate you, and the game is simply to strike some fear in you, make you understand how evil and traitorous humans are. You'll never want to leave. And of course, he intends to play until there are two students left. Unfortunately for the others, the winners have already been... predetermined.
How difficult is it to escape from them? How do they keep you restrained? How do they deal with attempted escape?
Unfortunately for you, Makoto is one of those yans that is perfectly ok with your life consisting of being tied, 24/7, in one place. He'd keep you restrained at all times, with something soft of course! He doesn't want to hurt you, but it's for your own safety.
DR1 Makoto would constantly be coming back to the room to check on you, make sure you haven't left, make sure you're ok. He'd neglect all of his free time opportunities to talk to others and opt to come be with you instead.
Normal Makoto would invest in some special security measures, namely, a very special shock collar that he bought off of some sketchy site. It's made for humans! It has a lock with a code and everything. You honestly wonder why there's even a market for such a thing. It's not just light shocks, no, it has settings. It syncs to his phone, with a built in remote app, one he can push and it'll give you a nice shock of whatever level he sets it at.
However, the collar is also synched to a field of range that it will detect your location in. It's set perfectly to the boundaries of your little home. If you were to step outside the door or the window... Well, it's not going to kill you, but you'll be out cold, and he'll get a notification telling him you tried to leave. The first time, maybe, you can calm him down and convince him it was an accident, you tripped and crashed against the door and it just ever so lightly pushed you over the boundary. He'll believe it... Once.
Unfortunately, he's also one of the ones who sees no issue in permanent bodily modifications to deter you from leaving. He's not like some of the previous yans I've discussed, though, because it's not out of sadism or a lack of care for your feelings, it's a delusion thing. He'll be so sweet about it, reassure you that it's ok, it's for your own good, you're too precious and innocent and the outside world will hurt you, but this way you're safe from yourself and your own naivete. He'll be so, so careful and take such good care of you, he'll give you something strong so that you don't feel any pain at all.
He's also perfectly fine with you living in a constant drugged state, out of your mind, drowsy and completely unaware of anything in the world except him. And things are better that way - really, you can't say you're not happy, you seem so content like this. You don't complain, you don't get angry, you just giggle and smile and loll your head back and forth. You don't fight him. You just smile.
In other words, regarding escape, you might as well give up. Your only real chance is being rescued by someone else, someone who might just notice his increasingly odd behaviors, but if they believe you're dead, which he will go to great lengths to ensure you do, it's unlikely to happen. Any attempts will just be met with a sweet smile, a little laugh at how dumb you are to think that would really work, and quickly taking you back, where his demeanor might get significantly angrier once he can really let loose.
MM! Makoto is an equally unrealistic chance, the worst of all, really. It's just not happening. He'll also likely convince you, much like as the DR1 and V3 did, that the world outside is nearly destroyed, or somehow unlivable, that you're lucky to be here, and that this is the only place where you're safe.
If you try, he'll crack down on however the hell you managed to escape because... how would you even go about that? I mean, the whole environment was designed to be inescapable, and if a whole class of students couldn't find a way out, it's unlikely you will either. Any attempts will likely be dumb and unsuccessful enough that he can't even get mad, it's just amusing.
How easy are they to trick, deceive, or manipulate?
Oh, easy. We see in Chapter one of DR1 just how easily he will bend to the will of a girl he likes and nearly end up getting himself falsely accused of murder and all, so safe to say he's pretty easily manipulatable and if you're looking to survive, you can use that to your advantage. However, really, you're better off manipulating him into being a meatshield - he'll guard you 24/7 and be more than willing to die. Poor baby.
However, if he catches onto manipulation once, and it doesn't involve your safety, he'll learn pretty quick. Deep down he's a highly intelligent young man, and you may find the tables turning pretty quickly - he can easily manipulate your paranoia and mortal fear, convincing you that if you just stay with him, you'll be safe, convincing you that everyone else is out to get you, convincing you that this or that person is plotting to kill you. He's so sweet and innocent looking, you'll believe every word.
Bonus: If he were the mastermind, he'd be so deceitful and do it so well, you'd never know. An excellent actor through and through. In a way, it's not acting at all - he loves you and wants you to be safe. This is all so that you'll just understand that you need to be kept away from the outside world - you're actually perfectly safe, he's taken measures to ensure that, but you'd have no way of knowing. Even if you feel like those cameras in the rooms at night almost seem like they're staring right at you.
How lenient are they? What privileges can you have, and what will you be denied?
Very few. He'll baby you and prevent you from doing most things for yourself. He'll be one to try and keep you entertained, though, most likely get you some kind of tablet or laptop you can use to write, let you play all of his games, let you watch anything, and get you any kind of materials for any hobbies you have, provided he's deemed it non-dangerous. So, given all of that, you don't need to do anything else, right? He'll see anything more as just you pushing your limits, because you're trying to be difficult again. Complaints go in one ear and out the other.
DR1 would be the worst Makoto to have, because he can't provide you with much, and can't lock you in from the outside... so, his primary go-to is gonna be keeping you completely restrained all the time. Don't worry, though, he assures you that once you guys get out of here, he'll take you away to a much nicer place with much more to do! But for now, you'll be getting very acquainted with his ceiling, left with nothing to do but stare up at it. He'll try to be around as much as he can though, and won't leave you for too long, only leaving when necessary. And for the trials you'll just... have a little nap, so it'll feel like no time really passed at all.
Ironically, MM! Makoto gives you the most leniency. He'll make sure anything dangerous is taken away, but then, he'll let you roam the abandoned, hollow shell of the school, whenever he has to work on something, which isn't too often. Of course, this is partially because he's got an eye on you via cameras every waking moment, so really, you feel his presence even when he isn't there.
What kind of rules do they have? What kind of punishment would they use?
For a normal Makoto, he'd be one to give you a "schedule" to help you adjust. He doesn't want you getting depressed and laying in bed all day, it's bad for your health! He wants you happy and lively and that way you can have more fun together! He'll give you a list of very simple tasks to complete throughout the day. If you don't do them, that's ok, you can do them together when he comes back, but they will get done. Other than that, of course, no running away, no attacking him, and you know, just try to be a bit grateful and nice.
If you make him mad enough, he needs time to cool down, and he presumes you do, too. He's one to pull psychological things -- locking you in a dark, dark room with no light or sound for a long enough time, all alone, ignoring your cries and whimpers until he knows you've learned. But once you have, and if he sees the results have turned out as expected, he'll be sweet and affectionate when he takes you out, and tell you he's glad you see things his way now.
How do they deal with rivals, or perceived rivals? Will they get rid of them? Will they kill them themselves, or find another way?
Normal Makoto, once again, we have a very classic yandere trope. He's delusional and in love and anyone who gets in the way will suffer. He's, again, very deceptively intelligent, and he can easily commit a murder, even a string of murders, that no one would ever be able to put together, and certainly that no one would ever suspect someone like him of committing. You could say it's like a talent of his. He has no guilt or remorse, either, and no value for the lives of people who are his enemies.
DR1 Makoto, He's limited to two people, unfortunately. If he had it his way, he would kill them all. But still, that's enough to win. He'll bide his time, setting things up so that hopefully, the more intelligent students get eliminated early. He has masterful ways of pulling strings here and there, planting ideas in people's heads, off handed comments that might just inspire a killing. Once there's only idiots left, well, once two of them go missing, in the most elaborate, confusing murders in the game thus far, they'll never figure it out.
Of course, he'll certainly find a way around the rules. He'll force the mastermind to have no choice but to let you both live. Injured students can't participate in trials if they're out cold, no? So if you have some minor bone breakage, get drugged conveniently before a trial begins, you can't participate. And if you didn't participate, it would really be upsetting to everyone watching if Monokuma killed off a student who couldn't even partake in the trial. After all, they might have been able to turn it around! So really, the mastermind has to let you both live.
Or maybe, he'll convince you to do it with him. Force the weapon into your hand, force it down on the poor poor victim, holding your hand in his. Monokuma can't prove you weren't putting some exertion into it, that it was all his force. Therefore, really, you both killed them. Therefore, the trial is against you both. Therefore... He can get rid of everyone in the way, all at once, with only one left to go - the person behind that bear. And he will find a way - you'd be foolish to underestimate his capabilities. After all, you always thought he was just a lil empty headed guy, shy and flustered, and look how wrong that was.
How easy is it to make them mad? What does their anger look like?
In the "developing stages" of obsession, not so much. He's generally a sweet, easy-going guy, even a little bit of a doormat if we're being honest.
Normally, he gets pouty-mad, not violent-mad. Almost what some might call a girl-sort-of-mad, the kind where he huffs and pouts and pretends to ignore you. It's either kinda cute or infuriating, depending on your mood or how you view it. In that state, all you have to do is give him what he wants, of summon a quick apology, and he'll bounce back to normal and loving and affectionate nearly immediately. It's part of an immature streak he has.
He has his snap moments, and will snarl and growl at you with the most furious expression for just a mere moment -- but he snaps back to sweet and soft as quickly as he changed the first time. It's a little bit of mental whiplash for you, really. You almost feel like you imagined it. In those moments, though, he may just for those few instants get a little violent.
If he's truly furious, he gets quiet. It's a little terrifying, really, you know something is coming, and it's not pleasant. He'll likely just grab you and slowly, tortuously drag you to whatever he has planned. He'll give you a very grim, cold expression, and coldly tell you this is what you deserve, and if that's locking you up, he'll tell you you can come back out when you're ready to behave.
So they see you as above them, beneath them, or equal to them?
Above. He's a worshipper. He can't even believe he gets to be in your presence, even look at you, he's unworthy and it's all so overwhelming.
It... Gets annoying pretty quickly, actually. He's not gonna sit around and degrade himself all that much unlike SOME certain lucky students cough cough, but he'll constantly grovel and remind you how perfect you are. He's not good enough for you, he doesn't deserve you... a bit ironic to hear, since that certainly didn't seem to stop him from taking you away against your will, but there's a lot of hypocrisies that don't really line up with Makoto.
How determined are they for you to love them? How hard will they try to make it happen? Or are they content just having you?
Highly so, but also deluded into thinking you do pretty easily. Even if you're screaming and yelling, he just thinks you're having a bad day, throwing a tantrum. He thinks you do love him, if you're in the later stages of things. Anything that conflicts with this delusion is explainable otherwise, usually the default being that, as usual, you're just being difficult, but that's ok -- he really loves you anyway.
Bonus: Is there anything that makes them unique, in comparison to other yanderes?
Ironically, what makes him unique compared to my other yanderes is that he's more fitting for the traditional yandere type - a very cute-faced, psycho sweetheart type. He's highly prone to the classic yandere tropes and attitudes, as well as the mental and emotional instability traditionally associated with yanderes - smiling no matter what, even as he does awful things, but also snapping to a dark, angry state over the smallest things.
Guilt tripping. It's his specialty. He's so cute, so sweet, you wouldn't want to make him cry and make him sad... Would you? You're not that cruel, are you? You wouldn't throw away everything he's done for you and leave him all alone with no one... Right? He'll easily manipulate you this way, it's his specialty.
General perverseness: how sexual of a person are they? What’s their drive like? How touchy do they get? Do they have any reservations about sexuality?
The thing about those soft sweet boys that are just so innocent? Half the time they're the nastiest, horniest little pervs there are. He's sweet, he'll help you with everything you need! You're struggling to reach that shelf so he'll just put his hands on your hips and squeeze you and lift you up! But he'll stumble a bit, and when you come down you'll kinda land on him just a bit, chest pressed up against his face, and you'll be the one embarrassed - but it's ok. He says he knows you didn't mean to. And he's so sheepish and embarrassed about it himself, clearly it must have been unintentional.
And he's so innocent and kind, you know he doesn't mean to be so touchy, doesn't mean to cling to you so much, so you can brush it off. After all, he's just so nice, you wouldn't want to offend him.
Will jerk off on every single thing he has of you. Every little polaroid, every article of clothing he's stolen, every little thing. It's gross. He's gross. By the time you're kidnapped you might even find some of your clothes that went missing, and they're hard as a rock. Ew.
Like a lot of yans, will get significantly bolder once he has you all to himself. Much more touchy, much more suggestive, boldly, openly horny and just, constantly begging you to just fuck already, whining and even rutting into you if you're still in denial.
MM! Makoto will also 100% watch you get undressed through the cameras every night. Save the video feed and just watch it over and over again, taking in every little detail. Cum all over each little video, watching it drip down the screen. He can almost pretend it's actually dripping down your face, and not just the image of it.
How forceful are they? Do they care about your willingness?
I... within the first hour of your confinement you're gonna know what this boy's dick feels like. He has no restraint. He just loves you so much! Hell, you might even wake up to him just, grinding into you, jerking off to you. You're just so pretty. You can't expect him to be too restrained, you know? He's so overcome by love for you that he can't help it.
High-level delusional. Will make up every reason in the world as to why you might be rejecting. You're nervous, it's ok, he'll help you get over it. You're insecure, and he'll help you get around that too. Ultimately, in the end, you're not getting out of it, nor putting it off at all really. It'll be the first thing you do to start off your new little lifestyle.
What sort of kinks or fetishes do they have, or would they fill?
D/S dynamic
Except... in a really weird way. It's the sub without the dom. Or not really submissive at all. It's a very bizarre dynamic you'll have going on - the way he talks to you is so submissive, so sweet, constantly asking you if you feel good, constantly whimpering and making the cutest little noises, constantly worshipping you, you'd almost forget he has you tied up and is forcing you through it. He acts submissive in his own way, and yet he's completely controlling you. In fact, you're pretty certain he wouldn't actually let you top him in any way, and any attempts to do so will be met with him denying you, telling you to just let him do what he wants take care of you. His attitude and words are submissive, yet he insists on controlling you completely. It's, again, bizarre in its own way, but what isn’t bizarre with this man.
Oral fixation
A guilty one for him, with his whole service attitude and all, because he really likes to be on the receiving end of it. Cumming down your throat is fine and all, but really he's one to pull out and cum all over your face. Bonus points if you wear lip gloss to smear all over his dick, wear glasses he can get cum on, or anything that makes it feel special.
In his rare angry, more dominant moments, he can get kind of rough with it. If he's really mad at you, hearing you choke is a rather satisfying feeling.
Paizuri/Thigh fucking/outercourse
The boy's seen too much porn. Just, pleeeeeeease let him cum on your tits. Please. He begs for it over and over, doesn't matter if you tell him yours are too big or too small, he just really wants to cum on them. He just wants to feel your smooth skin on his dick you know? Maybe he can get the tip in your mouth while you do it too!
And while you're at it... Let him fuck your thighs. Please? Just hold your legs together, not hard right? There's just something about actually seeing his dick against you that makes it so nice, and so temptingly close to your holes. But if you've agreed to it as a way of preventing actual sex, it might just... accidentally go in anyway. It was just too slippery... but now, he's already fucking you so... might as well keep doing that instead.
Cockwarming/activity-sex
Our boy likes his vidya. And you know all those jokes and references to, you know, getting sucked off under the table while he plays games....? He just... really, really would like that. It's a big fantasy for him. He's probably the type of guy to be way too into league of legends dammit and he just, would love to have to try to be quiet, try to get off down your throat while trying not to alert anyone that can hear through his mic. Or just sit on his dick, it's heavenly, he'll gradually just lost control and start losing his game, before eventually cutting it off and exiting altogether in favor of rutting up into you. He likes it, but he doesn't have a whole lot of self-control to actually do it for long before giving up and just fucking you.
How do they feel about pregnancy or babies? Do they want them?
He's one of the ones that really wants it, he thinks it would be so cute, so precious, and of course the benefit of it tying you to him. He might be one to get a bit jealous, though. He likes your attention, and can be a little bit immature about it. Unfortunately, though, he's not actually aware of his own immaturity, so this can present a problem.
What kind of (nsfw) punishments would they use?
(Insert "iiiiits punishment time!" joke here)
If he's in this mode, an angry mood, his demeanor for sex changes significantly. The weird pseudo sub attitude isn't really there, it's more of a quiet neutrality, a frustrated, but calculated anger that brings out the worst in him. It's honestly frightening for you in and of itself because it's such a dark expression and rough voice and so unfamiliar that it would freak you out just to see him like that.
The go-to is impact pain. In this rare-ish mood, he can actually change pretty significantly -- normally, he'd never dream of hurting you, would feel awful if he did, and would not enjoy it in any way, but now? He kinda... feels like you deserve it, and he'll undeniably get off to it a bit. Something about watching you cry and squirm really helps alleviate the anger. He'll be soft about it later, wipe away your tears and softly murmur nice things... but he won't apologize. You deserved it. If it's that bad, then you'll just have to not do it again.
What body parts of their darling do they like the most?
A thigh boy. Let him use your lap as a pillow, and he'll be a very happy boy indeed. He likes feeling them wrapped around his hips, or his head, likes squeezing the flesh in his hands, likes running his hands up and down.

Mystery March Day 21 - One of Us
(This is by far the most involved prompt I have done for Mystery March, and so I hope it turned out alright. There will be some more detailed author’s notes at the end of the writing, as there’s no possible way I can fit them all here before it. Just let me express how much of an inspiration you all have been! ENJOY!)
I said, even if I told ya
It all started with an idea, as most every work of art does. Concepts were put in place, branching off from that one base idea. From there, others came together to help get this little project off the ground. Characters were fleshed out, just as the world they lived in where. The team worked hard on everything planned, a true passion project.
When the first video dropped, we were all invested. We fell in love with the characters, story, and music. We couldn’t wait to see more, and despite all the time having to wait, it has always been worth it. Great works take time, and even with a team as dedicated as this one is, they fueled our own passions with previews, updates, character and worldbuilding, merch, and as of the most recent video, a branch into another medium to further tell their story. Their group continued to grow, bringing on more talented individuals, including voice actors.
Fours videos under the belt and one more still to come, they pour their heart and soul into this series, though they are not the only ones who do so. There’s a theory in our world known as the ‘multiverse.’ It is said that all these universes living side by side with one another create everything that exists. Can the same not be said for this team and all the fascinating works of art that came out of this one little series of four videos?
They've been looking for you and only you
It’s a tale of three friends and their dog, all stemming from a terrifying incident inside a cave. One lost their life, one lost their memory, and one lost their arm. What of the last member of their group? He lost his identity. Karma for his trickery would come back to haunt him. Guilt came to consume another, and the last to make it out alive was left wondering what was even going on.
Revenge fueled the one that came back, determined to get back at the one ‘friend’ that managed to cut his life short, and reunite with the love of his life. What started with a chase through a mansion led to the appearance of a tree woman searching for the trickster. The ghost refueled hijacks a truck, gunning down for the familiar van he once drove for all of them.
The woman catches up, shattering the glass wall protecting those in the front seat. The ghost blows the back tire that causes the van to crash. Two encounters branch from this point, one shrouded in the past, and another in the pursuit of revenge. Blonde and blue-haired humans nearly falling at the hands of their captors.
But they survive.
The dog’s true form revealed, the battle commences, blood spilling. As one disintegrates, an opening is left over for a familiar evil to take hold. White became black, demonic nature taking over the once noble being. The three friends left being the ones to bring him free of this grip. What are they to do? It’s all left to be seen...
Darkness is my signal
Not too much is known about this blonde, though despite the change to his physical appearance, there are parts of what defined him that have not changed. He’s had to adjust his lifestyle, but seems to have made the most of his new life. He may have even found some comfort in a bit of an unusual source. Anything to keep him from the self-isolation he seemed content to bring upon himself because of his condition.
So what are you to me, what are we to you?
The cave incident plays out like normal, there is one major change in the timeline of events. The blonde is sent tossed over the cliff along with his best friend, the entity that caused all their problems still trapped inside his body. When the ghost reformed, his anger was washed away at the sight of his friend suffering the same fate, or so he believed. Once free, it was nothing but a rough struggle to hold onto sanity, not just for one of them, but both.
One to keep calm, helping his friend to try and stay lucid.
The other fighting the terrifying entity inside him for control, while changing his body to fit the demon’s needs.
The blonde won, but at what a cost? Green skin covering his body, feet and hands sporting yellow-tinted claws. The posture of his own feet changed, causing him to have to learn how to walk all over again. A tail with a tuft of orange hair, and two large wings attached to his back. Last of course, were the horns on his head, and the blacked out eyes with amber pupils. He was in despair over the turn of events.
At least he had his best friend to help him. He wouldn’t have been able to do this without him. Well, this, and the series of events that came to follow. The two were eventually united with their final friend, but their not-dog wasn’t convinced of the blonde’s mind. It didn’t matter that he didn’t act like a demon, as he still looked like one, accepting the pain brought on him.
Drastic measures were taken to ensure freedom of the ghost, no matter how unnecessary it was. Adjustment takes time, and a good talk was what the four of them needed.
But are you one of us?
Are you one of us?
What seemed like a simple task, well maybe not simple, but one that was plausible spiraled into a long drive across the country in search of a cure for the ghost’s condition. All it took was one ingredient: werewolf blood. Seven weeks after the start of their trip, two were starting to lose hope, the last of their trio determined as always. A blur running across the front of their van was enough to bring their hopes back up, chasing down what looked like a big wolf.
To just miss it. It seemed like another dead end for their search.
Until the blonde was all alone.
The wolf jumped out of the shadows, teeth sinking down into flesh. Were it not for the arrival of the kitsune, who knows what would have happened. The injured one was brought back to his friends, patched up, and taken in for proper treatment. A headache marks the night of the full moon, a night when werewolves are said to be forced to transform. What will happen for them? Most left to the whim of try blue ghosts deemed as blueberries. We shall see where their questions and actions take this new werewolf and his friends.
Tell me, are you one of us?
Said, are you one of us?
Tales of legends are passed down, but come from a place of truth. Those that speak of a king gifted a sword with a beautiful, glowing, purple gem just before the silver of the blade. This is a gift from the Lady of the Lake, and one not to be taken lightly. It comes as a surprise when the weapon turns out to be sentient, and the two not always getting along.
Sometimes the king can be a little harsh on his partner.
And sometimes the sword can refuse to work in situations where his help would be greatly appreciated.
They must learn to work with one another if they hope to overcome the obstacles placed in front of them. The question is can this be done, or will they continue to bicker with one another?
I know that this sounds crazy
An unfortunate case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time causes the members of the separate mystery solving groups to be body swapped with one another. A kid stuck with adult hunters that deal with magic, as well as otherworldly dangers, and an adult stuck with a bunch of kids that seem like they may be in way over their heads. The ultimate goal is for the two groups to come together, and find a way to swap the souls in each body back to their original home.
Easier said than done.
One gets to learn the truth of a horrifying incident, something that tore friends apart, and damaged the people of their group beyond some repair. A kind heart is offered to them despite all this, helping to try and ease the burden even if he has nothing to do with them.
The other sees first hand what kind of trouble a group of kids can get themselves in. His own problems arise, and in typical fashion, does not wish to push them onto anyone he’s been stuck with. It’s a little harder to convince some of this new group of the world he has seen, and learned from; but, if there’s one thing he can do, it’s to still help those around him, and lend a hand when a mystery comes along their way.
Two outsider perspectives looking in, and it’s a matter of what adventures they will have before and after they come together again.
Waiting for this moment, can you see me?
A whirlwind of emotions, pushed only further at the hands of abuse, a blonde is left to flee from his own home to try and preserve himself. He fled through the states, ending up at another corner of the US. His mind might have been broken, but that didn’t stop one person from becoming the most important in his life, nor the three that came to follow from their union. The haunts of old were constantly clinging to him, no matter how careful he was so that none could find him, and even when those fears returned, he never let them get in the way of his family. There was an understanding between them.
But all that fear came crashing back when one single letter was hand passed to him by his former friend’s father.
Even terrified out of his wits, he found the courage to pack up some of his family to return to his old home. The past came back in full force, as well as the reveal of a curse that only seemed to have the power to vanquish. The people that treated him the worst came back to him for help. The same blue-haired girl who’s father delivered the father nearly brought the end of three children with her partner in crime. The wraith that made his life a living hell came back trying to act as if there was something he could do to make up for what he had done.
And the demon that caused all this to happen in the first place was now roaming free...
'Cause I know that you're out there
Almost as if the reset button had been hit, the blonde wakes up thrown into the past, a time when his best friend was still alive, but… it wasn’t the same. The blonde was still the same one from the future, and new friends that his past friends would know nothing about showed themselves. How was he meant to be like his old self when anytime he looked at the purple wearing man, all he saw was the vengeful ghost out for his life?
Events aren’t meant to play out the same way, and they don’t. Despite this, some things can not be changed. The demon still found his way to the same host, though what he chose to do was different. Even with all the chaos, at least the one man didn’t lose his life.
And he gets a front row seat to what his blonde friend had to go through in the future he once came from. It hurt. Emotions still rang high, even if the circumstances are not the same.
This darkness is my signal, come and find me
Sometimes the past can be changed and have one new timeline play out, but what if that same man from the future was now thrown into multiple iterations of the same events, each one spent trying to make it a perfect outcome for all four of them? Well… after a few rounds it didn’t matter if he got to be part of their ending. All that mattered was fixing things for the other three. That was his assigned duty.
Death ended each try, waking the man back up in his bed, whether that be at the hands of someone else, or himself. He just needed more time, plan, and make sure he got it right. He could do it, he was determined to do so.
No matter how much it was tearing him apart.
And when enough was finally enough, it was up to the three left to try and convince him that even with pain, they could continue on with their lives. He didn’t have to keep fighting anymore. He could take an ending that hurt, but one they could heal from, rather than spending so many years trying and trying, all to end with a repeat.
As having to remember all of that hurt.
Are you one of us?
Are you one of us?
What started out as just another night of sleepwalking led the blonde to the steps of a very familiar mansion. Fleeing from an unseen threat caused him to swallow his fear, taking the first step inside. There was no greeting this time, save for the slamming of doors behind him. The only light provided was a light purple of three candles, lifted by the only hand he had. A journey up a flight of stairs and down the hall, coming to a plaque with his name on it.
Entrance strangely granted to him with the twist of a knob from a hand that wasn't there.
The night spent in a bed, waking up to find he had become a prisoner. It seemed death was what would come to him, whether it be at the hands of his former best friend, or by his own. After all, there was a reason his room was on the second floor. Revelations come to light with the appearance of a certain green arm… wearing a familiar, black wristband.
Friendships ruined, for another reason than before. Another friend found searching for him. Both started for selfish means, but it was selflessness that sent him back into the house, even though an evil from the past threatened them once more.
Tell me, are you one of us?
Said, are you one of us?
It’s not everyday that some dive into the past of these character’s lives, but what would happen if one young, scared blonde came across an ancient tree? One that was alive in more ways than one. A strange feeling washed between the two of them, a bond made from the day the blond fled into her woods to hide from the one hunting him. He came to her more than once, and yet every time he did, she sought to rest his soul.
And soon, the tables had turned. Now she was the one in need of rest, though she did not realize it yet until she got the same comfort she once gave to the blonde. His pack adopted her, and he took care of her rot. Names of a powerful thing to these beings, and they knew each other by that power word.
This was not the end of their story. The three friends and dog were reunited, of course the blonde being the one to decide to choose the home where his wooden friend resided. There’s no denying that he was still healing, but he found the courage to try and seek it for himself. The bluenette grew curious about the tree in their backyard, and the final finds an outside source to try and round his curious status.
Are you one of us?
Are you one of us?
The once ghost only turned out to be half deceased, but the hatred still remained. Whether he liked it or not, the blond was at fault; but, he had a plan. One that was sure to fix everything. Find the true cause of their misery, proof that he was just as much a victim.
It was a plan that split their group apart. The dog chose to go with the man on his search, while the bluenette stayed with their half dead friend. The hunt is on, but who’s to tell how the story is to go on from here. Will they each succeed with their goals? We shall see.
Are you one of us?
Said, are you one of us?
The ghost finds himself in the company of others like him. Not ghosts, but skeletons from various worlds. The logistics of how this came to pass is a mystery, though he does not seem to find these details too important. Separated from his ‘friends,’ he finds new ones in this strange group of individuals. They seem to naturally bounce off one another, though some still have trouble catching the ghost’s triggers to his anger. Thankfully, most situations involving this aren’t left to fester.
Their local hang out at Manny’s place is full of stories, interactions between these liked characters. Some funny, some more serious. Whatever the case may be, even if he’s not in the same place as most other ghosts like him, he’s found a place where he can fit in.
Are you one of us?
Are you one of us?
A prince and a noble of green came together, an unholy union that was meant to lead to a prosperous life. Perhaps, but only for one half of that pair. Concerns were dismissed, comfort was sought by an evil man from the one he supposedly loved, and the other tried to find what little comfort there was in his constricting hold. It took the support of two outside his kingdom, and two strangers that wormed into his life to stand up to the terror in his life.
And yet… even with their help… and his desire to lend his help in return…
It wasn’t enough.
A life ended, but the king came back. He was not about to give up on the kingdom he always poured his heart and soul into. Years he seemed to be alone, though one by one, four beings came into his company. He still had those that aided him in life, but now he had more to add to his family. A pink rabbit, golem, a purple imp, and a dark girl with a skull marking. Each had their own story, and a place with him.
And he would see to their safety as much as anyone else in his kingdom.
Tell me, are you one of us?
Said, are you one of us?
Some characters are unique to the world, not all always branching off the main four. Of course, that doesn’t mean there aren’t some made with connections to them in mind. Each is special, and built with as much care as anyone else…
Whether it be a cousin to the blonde, gray with orange highlights rather than the way around, a darker aesthetic, but still similar style to his cousin. A tattoo pattern along his left arm.
A green haired ghost, one met when the group of friends were out together. Something seemed about ready to suck her inside, the ghost reaching out to save her. She seemed to stick with them since.
A young woman dressed in red, blue, and brown. Golden pearls hang from her neck, and a black shawl wrapped around one shoulder. A brown cat accompanying her and group at times, and one that seems to have a power of her own hidden just underneath.
Are you one of us?
Some characters branching off the core four, and even some of those that were created as their own entity for this series chose to build their stories and characters with one another. Their worlds cross over to one another, relationships naturally build, and so too do the special elements and plots to separate them from one another. Each one of them is equally unique.
Whether it be from the multitude of different colored ghosts, each of them centered around their own story and emotions.
A blue-haired girl with one strand that is lighter than the other. A snowflake twinkled in her left eye, and a roller derby team she has been dedicated to for years counting on her.
The same mechanic, though with more visible scars to the incident in the cave. So much love and care to give, even to those in other worlds, even if the gray faes take a little too much pleasure in bringing him grief.
A black robed king, living far beyond the grave, glowing locks of hair flowing through the air. He’s been seen before, but this one on another plane, a chance to interact with others outside his grown family.
Are you one of us?
Are you one of us?
This amazing group of people, as well as many others come together over a series we all love and cherish. We create our own works of art, but not without credit to the original source. From this point and on, we only seem to grow as a collective, continuing to create as we wait, and surely even after the series comes to a close, it will hold a special place in our hearts. So long as we are all here, we shall continue to spread our joy over mystery skulls animated, supporting one another, no matter how small or big someone may be.
We extend our open arms to one another, and to those new to this fandom...
“Said, are you one of us?”

(Author’s Notes: Seriously, this fandom has been an amazing inspiration, and I’m so happy to be able to take part in Mystery March. There was no other good prompt to really do this for, and I thought this would be a clever way to give tribute to the many amazing people and ideas/stories they have come up with. I tried to keep things short and vague for some, as there are some things I don’t want to give away, so you can check them out if you haven’t. I know there’s no possible way I could get everyone, but I tried to get as many as I’ve fallen in love with and not repeat anyone twice (even though I think I broke that rule twice). Again, thank you all so much, and I hope you enjoyed this.

When a new student makes an entrance, Bakugou has a real bad feeling. There is something about this girl that just doesnt feel right. From the flaming hair to the calculating glint in her green eyes, everything about her just pisses him off.
Little does he know that his fate is intertwined with the person he despises so much, defining his future path in a way he would have never expected
Tumblr media
Lunch break was a fucking nightmare. Artemis couldn't remember when she’d last felt so goddamn tired. Her head pounded to the point where it became increasingly hard to stay focused, despite having had not one but three cans of energy drinks in the morning alone.
Her mood was getting worse, too. People just wouldn't leave her alone. Her classmates swarmed around her constantly. When the lunch bell rang, Iida, Uraraka and Midoriya dragged her along to the cafeteria in what turned out to be an attempt to make sure she ate healthily, forcing her to eat every single vegetable they piled on her plate, despite her having clearly stated how much she hated them.
Whenever she went to the bathroom, there was always at least one girl from the class accompanying her, assaulting her with friendly chatter as if they’d been friends for years.
It was truly puzzling, and Artemis wasn’t sure if she was comfortable with it.
By the time the last period finished, she’d had enough. She just wanted to go home. At least there, she’d have the peace and quiet she so desperately wanted.
The moment the school bell rang, Artemis packed her belongings into her bag and shot out of her seat.
“What the heck are you all doing here?” she heard Uraraka say loudly.  The tone of her voice told Artemis something wasn't quite right.
She looked up to see a big crowd of students she’d never seen before standing in front of the classroom door. Not only were they blocking the exit, but their stares were a little too curious for her liking.
This day just wasn’t going to get any better, was it?
“Do you students have some sort of business with our class?” Iida asked in his best diplomatic student rep voice.
“Why are you blocking our doorway? I won't let you hold us hostage!” Mineta shrieked so loudly it rang in Artemis’s ears.
With a frustrated groan, she slung her bag over her shoulder and stepped closer. Something told her that this had something to do with the USJ incident. According to her classmates, the whole debacle had caused a huge media storm. Not that she was surprised. After all, UA was the school for young heroes in the country and the villain attack was a big tarnish on their name.
Artemis had no desire to be part of this spectacle. She prepared to march her arse through the crowd, pushing people aside if she had to. She just wanted to go home. Enough was enough.
“They’re scouting out the competition, you idiots,” Bakugou growled as he made his way past Artemis. “We’re the class that survived a real villain attack.”
For a split second, his eyes lingered on her as if there were something else he wanted to say, but then he changed his mind. He stood in front of the crowd with a posture that said, “I’m ready to brawl”.
“They want to see what a future pro looks like,” he continued, narrowing his eyes. “Now move it, extras!”
“You can't call people ‘extras’ just because you don't know who they are!” Iida piped up, horrified.
Artemis had to bite back a laugh. That sounded more like the Bakugou she knew: ready to start shit, not giving a damn about what anyone else thought. In a way, she shared that sentiment, though she knew better than to make the whole school her enemy. But maybe that was because she actually possessed some form of common sense.
“So, this is class 1A? I heard you guys were impressive, but you just sound like an arse.” A rather tall boy emerged from the crowd. “Is everyone in the hero course delusional, or is it just you?”
A soft snort escaped Artemis at his words. The look Bakugou gave her only made her laughing worse.
What? she mouthed at him. After all, the person was telling the truth. It was hardly a secret that Katsuki Bakugou was, in fact, an arse.
The small vein at Bakugou's temple started to throb, a telltale sign that his patience was running out.
“How sad to come here and just find a bunch of egomaniacs,” the unfamiliar boy continued, his voice dripping with contempt. “I wanted to be in the hero course, but like many others here, I was forced to choose a different track. Such is life. I didn't cut it the first time around, but I have another chance. If any of us do well in the sports festival, the teacher can decide to transfer us to the hero course, and they’ll have to transfer people out to make room.”
The more he spoke, the more Artemis realised that the contempt she’d first picked up on was actually closer to jealousy. If what he was saying was true, none of their places in this class were safe. That was an interesting concept. Survival of the fittest. Despite the harshness of the policy, she supposed it ensured that every student gave one hundred percent at all times. It also allowed the school to weed out who wasn’t fit for the job or just not willing to put in the work. She gave Mineta a side glance.
The boy looked over her classmates and scoffed. “Scouting the competition, you say? Maybe some of my peers are, but I’m here to let you know that if you don't bring your very best, I'll steal your spot right from under you. Consider this a declaration of war.”
Artemis rolled her eyes. Judging by Bakugou’s hot-headedness and the provocative look on the other guy’s face, this would likely take a while. And after spending the day wasting her energy on being nice to her overly-concerned classmates, she had absolutely no desire to wait here until they’d finished their dick-measuring contest.
Before Bakugou could bark his reply, Artemis cleared her throat loudly, attracting the attention of him and the crowd.
“I don't know what you’re trying to achieve here, treating our class like a monkey circus and all, but could you please get out of the way?” she snapped at the unknown guy. “If you need to have a little fight to figure out which one of you has the bigger dick, do it somewhere where you’re not in the fucking way. Thank you.”
Silence fell over the crowd.
“Artemis! You can’t use these kinds of words at school,”  Iida gasped in outrage, but Artemis just waved him off.
“Iida, do I look like I give a fuck? Now, move.”
Leaving her stunned classmates behind, she made her way through the crowd. Artemis was aware that her outburst was uncharacteristic for the persona she’d put on until now and that she’d probably regret having snapped like this as soon as her mood lightened up again, but that wasn’t going to happen anytime soon. This day could go fuck itself, as far as she was concerned.
The following days didn’t prove to be much better than the first. After three days, Artemis had given up questioning her new friends’ behavior, or why they were constantly around her. Maybe that was how things worked? She wouldn't know. The whole ‘Deku-Squad’, as she liked to call the small group of Midoriya, Iida and Uraraka, certainly didn't miss a chance to involve her in every activity possible. Group work during class? One of them would always call her over. Lunch? Artemis couldn't even make it out of the door without them swarming her and dragging her along to the cafeteria with them.
Before long, Artemis started to catch herself actually enjoying the time she spent with the group. No, not enjoying , she told herself. More like accepting this in order to fit in.
Today, however, her splitting headache made it increasingly hard to keep up her friendly facade. Her dreams hadn’t gotten any better, either, the haunting images leaving her nauseous when she woke up. Artemis wasn't sure whether all this was the result of the poison still wreaking havoc in her body, or if something else was going on behind the scenes.
“Artemis, are you doing okay? You’ve been pushing that shrimp around your plate for five minutes now.” Uraraka’s voice cut through her train of thought.
“Huh?” Artemis blinked and looked up, meeting the worried gaze of her classmate. “Yeah, I’m fine.”
“Are you sure? You look a little pale. Shall we escort you to Recovery Girl’s office?” Iida was already getting out of his seat to help her, but Artemis quickly waved him off.
“No, please. I’m fine. I just… need to go get some air real quick. Don't worry,” Artemis responded and quickly got up.
It might have been her only chance to get out of this overcrowded room, where so many voices banded together into a loud humming noise that threatened to detonate her brain like one of Bakugou's explosions.
Before any of them could say anything or offer to join her, Artemis slipped out of the cafeteria and made her way to the school roof. Over the past couple of days, the place had become something of a refuge for her, as nobody rarely went up there.
One thing she’d noticed after the attack was that her stamina had noticeably decreased. Again, she guessed it was the result of the still-prominent poison in her blood causing her to get light-headed as soon as she did anything physically taxing, like walking up several flights of stairs.
She had to sit down for a moment to catch her breath once she’d reached the roof. It was pathetic, really, how weak she’d become. A bitter laugh escaped her. If her father could see her now, he'd tell her how much of a disgrace she was. Or worse. That man had never taken kindly to weakness.
Suddenly, her quirk picked up an approaching heartbeat. Great. She really wasn't in the mood to be seen in a vulnerable state like this.
Forcing herself back onto her feet, Artemis grabbed her bag and proceeded to push herself onto the last flight of stairs
“I swear, “ she muttered to herself, “if one more person asks me if I'm okay, they’re going to be taking an involuntary swan dive off the roof. I've had enough.”
“That doesn't sound very heroic coming from a student enrolled in the hero course,” said someone with a husky voice behind her.
Artemis froze. She’d heard that voice before. Turning slowly, she spotted the same boy with lilac hair that had antagonised Bakugou in front of the classroom a couple days back making his way up the stairs. She groaned.
“Do I look like I care, fuzzy head?” she huffed. “Not that you would know, being from General Ed.”
Apparently, that rubbed him the wrong way. His brows furrowed.
“Not for long, that's for sure,” he replied in a sour tone. “You should really check that nasty attitude before someone pulls you off that high horse that you’ve become so comfortable on.”
“Oh, really?” Artemis scoffed. “And who, exactly, would that be? You? Pardon me, but I am not in the mood for whatever…” She gestured vaguely between them. “… this is, so please leave me alone.”
With that, she proceeded to climb the stairs again as fast as she possibly could, which, given her current condition and the growing dizziness in her head, wasn't exactly lightning speed.
“You seem to be pretty sure of yourself. You shouldn't underestimate your competition. I am going to take a spot in the hero course.”
“Competition?”
It was clear that this guy wouldn't leave her alone until he’d said his two cents. What was it with grumpy men in this academy and their need to measure their dicks? She didn't even have one!
Letting herself slump down onto one of the steps, she sighed deeply and took a closer look at the boy before her. He was tall and a little on the lanky side. His lilac eyes were underlined with dark circles, making him look like he hadn't slept in days, but his gaze was focused and determined.
“Look. I don't know why you feel like you have to hype yourself up by robbing me of the last shreds of serotonin that I possess, but I can tell you this: your ‘declaration of war’ on the hero course doesn’t worry me in the slightest. Why? Because I’m not here for some silly naive fantasy of heroism like most of you. So, no. A sleep deprived, unkempt, scrawny teenage boy trying to make me nervous doesn’t scare me.” Artemis shook her head. “So, if we're done here, I would like to spend my lunch break in peace.”
With that, Artemis turned on her heel and stubbornly forced herself up the stairs, despite her body's protests.
She didn't catch the boy’s intrigued gaze as he watched her disappear up to the roof.

Paige Bueckers and Jalen Suggs were BFFs long before dominating March Madness
Tumblr media
The duo went from grade school friends to basketball legends.
As fulfilling as success can be, it’s even better when you get to share it with someone else. One of the best feelings is knowing you’re on top of the world, while getting to watch one of your best friends do exactly the same thing in their field. This is the case for Gonzaga star Jalen Suggs, and UConn phenom Paige Bueckers, two lifelong friends, now supporting each other from across the country, while their stars are shining on college basketball’s brightest stage.
Their roads to the Final Four might have split the two Minnesota natives onto opposite coasts, different timezones, and divergent basketball cultures — but their shared brilliance, honed against each other in backyard games of 21, have turned Suggs and Bueckers into household names overnight. An incredible article from Katie Barnes over at espnW detailed their early friendship.
At 10 years old there was nothing Paige Bueckers loved more than basketball. She’d already been playing for a couple of years, often teaming with kids older than her, and maxing out her rec league time to the point she had to be pulled from games due to league rules. Paige hated it. She’d cry on the bench, begging to be put back in, because all she wanted was to play more basketball. Off the court people remember her as reserved, shy, but the sport lit a spark in her.
Playing in a rec league wasn’t enough. She needed to be around basketball more, so Bueckers began tagging along with a friend to his basketball practice. It didn’t matter that she was hesitant to put herself out there — any kid would be when put into a social situation where they don’t know if they’ll fit in. Learning more about basketball and being close to the game eclipsed any awkwardness. Paige watched from the sidelines as kids ran drills on the court, and it was too intoxicating to resist. She began running them on her own, mimicking what she was watching. Soon watching wasn’t enough. The once-shy girl was pushing her way onto the court, taking part in the drills. Sometimes she’d finish practice with her rec league team, run to the other practice, and take part in that one too. Desperate to get her reps in.
Jalen Suggs fell in love with basketball from a young age. His dad remembers him as a toddler, tossing shots into a Fisher Price hoop, standing behind a line his dad drew on the floor. At an age most kids have attention spans measuring seconds, Jalen would just keep shooting, over, and over, and over again. It was his favorite thing to do, and this love of the game never waned.
The boy never stopped loving basketball. He’d practice at home on the small hoop, and when he outgrew that began playing in rec leagues. When he was 10 years old he arrived at practice and began running drills on the court before noticing a blond haired girl he hadn’t met before running drills by herself, eventually diving in and practicing with his team. It was at that gym that Jalen Suggs and Paige Buecker first met, and immediately became friends — basketball being the common thread that linked them together.
It’s almost impossible to keep in touch with people you meet in grade school. We all change, evolve, and just tend to have those one-fast friends dissolve into fond memories. This wasn’t the case for Suggs and Bueckers. Their bond was always basketball, and it was impossible to break.
Even as league structure dictated they couldn’t formally play together, there was no stopping the duo from having a healthy rivalry. The Suggs and Bueckers families bonded as their children did, having family gatherings and cookouts, Jalen and Paige wolfing down burgers and brats with speed, just so they could get back to the court and play more one-on-one. Brought together by basketball, Suggs and Bueckers became the closest of friends.
Their friendship endured. Even though Suggs and Bueckers didn’t get to spend as much time together with the pressures of their high school careers mounting, they’d often meet at AAU tournaments to give each other pep talks, watch each other’s games, and play fierce games of five-on-five, Suggs’ team vs. Bueckers’ — organized by the two players.
“Just amazing stuff: back and forth, trash talk on both sides,” said Tara Starks, the coach of Bueckers’s Metro Stars AAU team, whose idea it was to invite Suggs’s boys team to scrimmage her girls ahead of the July championship tournament. “Paige would knock down a shot and talk a little trash. Jalen would come down and dunk. They would always go after us hard — running through the middle of the lane and dunking and talking trash. No letup at all. But it would push our girls and get them ready to play.”
The two players defined high school sports in Minnesota while they were playing. Suggs was a Gatorade Minnesota Player of the Year in football and basketball at Minnehaha Academy in Minneapolis, Bueckers won three Gatorade Minnesota Player of the Year awards at Hopkins High School in Minnetonka. A 20 minute cross town drive separated the duo, but the results were identical: Both were dominating.
College drove them apart. Suggs was heavily recruited from across the country, but eventually settled on becoming the highest ranked player to attend Gonzaga, choosing the Pacific Northwest over Florida, Florida State, Iowa State and local Minnesota. Bueckers was so highly coveted that teams began offering her scholarships from the age of 14, ultimately picking to join UConn and become the next great in the program’s astounding history.
A 22-minute drive became 2,700 miles as the two friends began their college careers, but they never lost touch. Avidly following each other from across the country, Suggs and Beuckers followed each other’s games, called each other after big performances and held each other accountable in bad performances to ensure they’d reach their full potential.
Now that potential has been reached. Suggs and Bueckers are in the Final Four, leading their teams in hopes of cutting down the nets at the end. While their primary concern is taking Gonzaga and UConn to victory, they spend their remaining free time catching each other’s games and facetiming each other. In fact, this influence is so great that Suggs credited Bueckers for being a key part of his success in the tournament.
“I texted her after, and we FaceTimed and talked for a little bit,” Suggs continued. “Last night, she said some things that really helped me. I’ve been kind of struggling, trying to get my footing in these tournament games. Of course, seeing her go out there and play great like she did and then talking afterwards, she kind of said some words, it kind of got me uplifted. It got me going. Definitely helped tonight. ... She’s the GOAT for a reason.”
Regardless of what happens from here out, the friendship fostered in Minnesota between two basketball-loving kids has turned them into stars. Suggs is expected to be taken the top five picks of the NBA draft this summer, while Bueckers will have to wait until 2023 or 2024 to enter the WNBA, but will unquestionably be the favorite to be the No. 1 pick when she enters.
There’s no doubt they’ll keep supporting each other in the pros too, ensuring these friends will make each other better for the rest of their careers.

It’s nearly Saturday afternoon when you finally emerge from your bed with Sam trailing behind you sporting an unruly mess of wild hair sticking out in all directions. He spent the night at your place for the first time and the two of you christened almost every inch of your little loft apartment.
There was even some lazy morning sex, slow and measured.  A wonderful way to wake up and just enough to put you both back to sleep.
Sam’s disoriented, looking around your apartment, perching on a stool at the small counter.
“What kind of mattress is that?” Sam asks.
“Ghostbed. I found it on the internet. It was less than a thousand, so I figured I’d take a chance. Did you love it or hate it?”
“I don’t think I’ve slept that well in a long time.” He watches you open a box of honey nut cheerios.
“Something impressed Mr. Winchester.” You grin and offer him a bowl but he waves you off.
“I want to go for a run before I eat.”
“Of course.” You pull milk out of the fridge. “What are we doing this weekend?”
You’ve spent nearly every weekend together, with the exception of the few months during the “break-up”, but he’s never spent a Friday night at your place before. The normal rhythm is out of whack and you wonder if this could be a precursor to another change.
He grins, tapping the counter. “Do you have plans? I was hoping for your input on a personal project.”
“With what?” Your interest is piqued.
“Building a new house,” he explains.
“Seriously...like a new house, house?” You leave the spoon in the bowl, setting it on the counter. “I didn’t know that was something you were even interested in.”
“I’ve been thinking about it more lately. Where I live now was designed and built by someone else. I really just bought it for the location and the land. I spoke to an architect years ago but work always seems to take precedence.”
“Why is it a priority now?” Your face is getting hot but you’re not sure why.
“I never spent much time there when it was just me. But now we’re there most weekends and I don’t believe in doing anything halfway. It’s time to stop putting it off.”
“What do you need me for?” you dig deeper.
“I want you to design it with me.”
“Sam,” you gulp, feeling short of breath. “This is a big deal.”
“You’re the one who says I act like we don’t have a future together.”
“I thought we could talk about taking a trip. I hope you know I don’t need you to build a new house to prove you're serious about us.”
“I know.” He remains stoic, watching your reaction with interest.
“Because we haven’t even talked about the basics of our relationship. Commitment, moving in together, what we want the future to look like.”
“Then let’s discuss those things. There’s nothing stopping us.”
“Right now?”
“Sure,” he shrugs.
“What’s gotten into you this morning?” you chuckle.
“I want you,” he states simply, folding his hands together. “I want to be with you for a long time. That means we need to start laying the foundation of our future now. What that foundation looks like, is up to you. I don’t need the traditional trappings, but I understand if you want that commitment from me. If it’s important to you that we get married or-”
“Whoa!” You go bug-eyed, coming around the counter. “Sam, I...there is an order to things like this.”
“What are you talking about?” He cocks his head, reaching out to pull you closer.
“We haven’t had a conversation about living together since the shooting. I’m talking about the fact that not that long ago you told me you weren’t sure you could ever love someone again. People generally fall in love before they start talking about building houses and getting married.”
“I know I said I wasn’t sure, but I was lying. I was scared.” He looks at you deadpan. “I love you.”
You just stare at him, mouth falling open, then closing without saying anything else.
Something must have happened to trigger this. He always moves fast when he’s fixated but this is enough to snap your neck.
How is it possible that he just delivers this kind of information like he’s explaining what you’re having for lunch? Part of you understands that this is just the way he is but the other part is a little pissed that he’s chosen this random moment to confess his feelings.
“Okay,” you respond slowly. “I love you, too.”
“Good. Let’s build a house together-”
Knock. Knock. Knock.
You and Sam both look to the door, torn out of this strange moment.
“I better get that,” you pull yourself away from him.
Knock. Knock. Knock.
Glancing back at Sam, you open the door to be met with the otherworldly sight of your parents standing in the hallway.
“Surprise!” Your mother throws up her arms, your father grinning behind her.
“Holy shit,” you gasp, completely stunned as she wraps her arms around you. She kisses your cheeks, pushing her way inside. “What are you doing here?”
“We came to visit you.” She cups your face with both hands, giving you a gentle shake. “You hardly answer your phone these days. I know you said you’re alright but I could tell that you were-”
She stops short, realizing that you're not alone. Sam stands up as she falls silent, all four of you looking at each with uncertainty.
“I should have called first.” She shakes her head. While she doesn’t say much about it, she’s been desperate for you to date someone.
“I told you,” your father shrugs.
“I, um-” you stutter.
Your worlds are colliding and your brain is about to short circuit.
“Hello.” Sam smiles, coming to stand beside you, extending his hand to your father, then your mother. “I’m Sam. It’s nice to meet you.”
“I didn’t know you were seeing anyone.” Your mother attempt to hide a shit-eating smirk as she examines Sam from head to toe. “He’s very tall...very handsome”
Your cheeks turn pink but you can’t help but laugh, looking at Sam. “She’s a descriptive person.”
“I can see that.” He places a hand on your back giving you a reassuring tap before excusing himself to change into more appropriate clothing.
“You’ve been keeping secrets from me,” your mother rasps in a false whisper, loud enough that Sam can surely hear every word. “How long has this been going on?”
“Leave her alone,” your father rolls his eyes. “We can come back later if it’s not a good time.”
“We were just...in the middle of something but it’s alright.” You quickly reach down to retrieve your discarded bra from the living room floor.
“He’s right,” your mother nods emphatically. “We should go.”
“No,” Sam speaks up from behind you. He’s changed into dress pants and a button-up shirt with the sleeves rolled up, somehow managing to make yesterday's clothes look casual enough for the morning after. “You should stay. You’ve traveled a long way.”
Fuck. You want to finish the conversation. Sam just dropped a bomb on you and now this.
“Why don’t you let me take you to lunch?” Sam extends the offer to your parents.
Will wonders never cease. You thought he’d want to get out of here as soon as possible. You didn’t peg him as the kind of guy who sticks around to meet the parents but as usual, Sam Winchester is full of surprises. Especially this morning.
“You don’t have to do that.” Your mother is visibly excited at the idea and truth be told you don’t have a say in any of it.
The four of you spend the afternoon at a Japanese steak house, eating and drinking.
This is a side of Sam you’ve never really seen before, the guy who can make small talk as if he enjoys it, asking all the right questions and offering candid answers in return. He has your father on pins and needles with his stock tips and pays your mother careful compliments that make her giggle like a high school freshman.
You find yourself wondering if this is an act or this is Sam stripped bare of his armor. You’ve not witnessed him interact with many people outside of W & S, this is new territory and his easy disposition is rather unnerving if you’re being honest.
After lunch, and another round of afternoon cocktails, you say goodbye to your parents and sit silently next to Sam as the driver chauffeurs you out of the city to Sam’s place in Newton.
“You’re quiet.” He places a hand on your knee, giving it a squeeze.
“I don’t even know where to start,” you answer honestly. “This morning you’re talking about building a house and getting married...then my parents...you were so different around them.”
“I enjoyed them.” He shrugs looking away from you, watching the roadside whip past. “They care about you, there’s no self-serving motivation, just adoration. They were so proud of you being a secretary and then when they heard about your new position...I thought your mother was going to pass out.”
You can’t help but chuckle. He’s right, they’ve always been so enthusiastic about any of your unimpressive accomplishments.
“I’ve never seen you like that. You were laughing, joking.”
“I felt comfortable,” he counters.
“You’re never like that with me.”
“I don’t have the ability to relax on that level when it’s just the two of us. I’m on high alert. I don’t want to say the wrong thing and scare you off. I’m out of practice being in a relationship.  I overthink everything when it comes to you.”
“I don’t get it,” you take his hand and hold it between both of yours. “How can you tell me you’re not opposed to getting married and then five hours later you say you can’t relax around me? And for the record, negotiating possible nuptials is not romantic. We’re not an agreement to be hashed out, we’re two people trying to make our lives work together. ”
“You’re upset with me?” He lifts his eyebrows, genuinely taken off guard by your reaction.
“No, I’m not mad.” You sigh, looking down at his hand and tracing his knuckles with your index finger. “But this morning felt a little like I was talking to W & S Sam Winchester. Like you decided what you were going to tell me in advance, and then you just started checking things off the list.”
“I did. I’ve given it a lot of thought. I didn’t realize the way I communicated was upsetting for you. I want you to understand how I feel about us and the considerations I’ve been making about the future.”
“Sam, you can’t just-” you stop yourself, taking a beat to digest what he’s telling you.
No wonder he can’t relax, not if you’re picking apart the way he talks to you. This morning was a giant leap forward, the Sam you knew a year ago would have never been capable of such vulnerability. He told you he loved you. He wants to build a home that you create together. He’s willing to set aside his disdain for traditional domesticity in favor of what you need to feel confident in this relationship.
“You make me really happy.” You catch him off guard with that confession, a shy little smile pulls at his mouth. “I don’t think I tell you that enough but I want you to know how much I appreciate the changes you’ve made. And any way that you want to communicate your feelings is the right way. It’s me who should take a look at how I react, not you.”
“No, you were right.” He leans forward, pulling his hand away from your grasp and running the back of his finger down your jaw. “That wasn’t the time or place. Let me try again. I love you. You give me a purpose. I want you to know that. You inspire me to take risks and tackle challenges I would have never even considered before I met you. You’ve changed my values. I want you in my life, and I know we’re going to struggle. I’m not an easy person to be with, but I’ll always try.”
“That,” you lean in, kissing him softly, “was much better.”
“For the record, I wasn’t trying to rush anything. Designing and building a house is a long process. We have time to work on the details. I know you want us to do this the right way. I want that too.”
“God, you’re just saying all the right things, aren’t you?” You grin.
“Does that mean you’ll help me design a swimming pool?”
“Yes,” you nod against his mouth.
Monday Morning
There’s an email marked ‘urgent’ sitting in your inbox from Human Resources. It’s an invitation to a meeting listed as “attendance mandatory” so you check your watch and head straight down to ensure you’re not late.
HR lives in its own little world on the first floor, a lifetime away from the hustle and bustle of the rest of W & S. Their offices are quiet, save the hum of the copy machine and soft clicking of a keyboard behind the reception desk. You take a seat and wait. Ten minutes go by, then twenty. You’re about to double-check the time on the invite when the door finally opens and Lexi steps out, turning to say goodbye to the women behind her.
She raises her eye-brows in your direction, giving you a little smile before scampering off.
This doesn’t bode well.
“Y/N?” A middle-aged blonde in an ill-fitting pants suit calls your name.
“Yes, that’s me.” You stand, shaking her hand and following her into her office. There’s another woman seated in a chair next to her desk and she stands to greet you as well.
“I’m Donna, this is Jody. We’ll be speaking with you today.” Donna, the blonde, gestures toward the empty chair and you sit down.
Jody...you know that name. This must be Jody Mills, the president of HR for all of W & S. They pulled out the big guns for whatever this is.
“This is slightly ominous,” you joke nervously. “Am I in trouble?”
“Not at all.” Donna shakes her head. “I’ll get right down to it.” She aggressively taps the end of her pen on the file in front of her. “We received a report that we are required to follow up on. I want you to know everything you say in this office is one hundred percent confidential. W & S is fastidious is our efforts to ensure a non-retaliation policy.”
“Okay.” You fold your hands in your lap, looking between the women. “How can I help?”
“During your time here, have you had experiences with a colleague that made you feel uncomfortable?” Donna blinks, awaiting your answer.
“Such as an unwanted advance,” Jody clarifies.
“Umm, yes. Max. But I spoke to someone when that happened. And he’s...not here anymore.”
“Right, we did read that report.” Donna nods as if you’re really giving her insightful information. “Other than Max, has anyone made you feel uncomfortable? With words or actions?”
“No.” You look between them trying to suss out where this is headed.
“Good.” Jody jots on her legal pad. “Do you have a good relationship with your direct supervisor,  Cole Trenton?”
“He’s great. I really enjoy working for him. No complaints. He’s always professional.”
“Excellent.” Donna plasters a stiff smile on her face. “We wish everyone was as happy as you are.”
“Last year you worked on a project with Sam Winchester,” Jody starts, her voice is measured, but the casual inclination sounds forced. It’s a dead giveaway. This is about Sam. “During your time with him, did you see or hear anything that maybe you felt you couldn’t report at the time?”
“No,” you look at her, eyes narrowing. “Never.”
“We work for the company and its employees,” Jody explains further, trying to make you feel more comfortable. “Sam is the CEO but he’s not above our corporate policies. Not above the law.”
“I’m not sure what you’re looking for, but I don’t think I can tell you anything.” Your palms begin to sweat as you shove them under your thighs, trying to appear focused.
“You never noticed him act in a way you felt was inappropriate?” You’re sure your whole face must be beet red. “Maybe it wasn’t with you. Maybe you overheard an exchange with his assistant, Pepper, or perhaps even a co-worker like Lexi.”
“Is this about Lexi? Did she say he did something to her?” You inch forward, your blood pressure rising. That little bitch. “She makes things up you know. She’s my friend but she’s prone to exaggeration. She likes the attention.”
“We’re well aware of her propensity to exaggerate.” Both women exchange a look and Donna continues. “Full transparency, you’re here because someone reported that they witnessed an inappropriate situation between you and Mr. Winchester.”
Shit. Pepper is the only one that knows and she’s not even in the state. Someone must have seen something. You’ve been less and less careful, maybe someone saw you out to dinner or-
“If you’re feeling threatened, or if Mr. Winchester has blackmailed or forced you into any kind of sexual situation, you can tell us. This is a safe space.” Jody’s mouth forms into a tight line as she scoots forward in her chair.
Your office. The roleplaying. That has to be what this is about. Someone was there. For a second you think you might throw up from embarrassment.
“Shit,” you sputter, looking down at your hands.
You and Sam have talked about this, what you should do and say in the event you were ever questioned about your relationship. His position, money, and power are a delicate balance. Even the hint of a scandal could ruin everything he’s worked for. Your little role play can very well have far-reaching consequences if you don’t do some damage control.
“This is so embarrassing,” you mutter.
“You have nothing to be embarrassed about.” Donna shakes her head, exchanging another pointed look with Jody. They either think this is the motherload or they’re scared of having to go up against the infamous Sam Winchester.
You hear Sam’s voice in the back of your head: be honest and upfront. We’ve got nothing to hide.
“It’s not like that.” You hold your head high, refusing to allow this to affect your outward emotions despite how nervous you are on the inside. “Sam and I are involved in a long-term romantic relationship.”
They both stare at you, somewhat dumbfounded at this unexpected admission. Jody stops taking notes, setting down the pen as she lifts her head to stare at you.
“I’m guessing someone saw or overhead part of a personal conversation that was intended to be a private moment between two consenting adults,” you explain.
“Well,” Jody recovers the fastest, widening her eyes. “We received a report that Mr. Winchester was overheard threatening to strip you of your title unless you performed sexual favors in return.”
“Right.” You bite your lip, glancing up at the ceiling while you resist the urge to melt onto the floor. “That was not the case. The exchange must have been misunderstood.”
“There was no sexual aspect to the conversation?” Jody clarifies.
“I didn’t say that. We were having a private conversation in my office. It was extremely late, the door was closed. I’m not sure how anyone would have heard us, but I apologize for the confusion.”
“Can you tell me more about the conversation-”
“No,” you cut her off. “I’m not comfortable with that. We were speaking in a personal capacity, it had nothing to do with work.”
You’re embarrassed, and while you don’t know the ins and outs of how this sort of thing is typically handled, you are fairly sure that you’re under no obligation to spill your guts. “I’m not comfortable discussing this any further. I think you should speak with Sam.”
“So you,” Donna licks her lips, sitting back in her chair, “are dating Sam Winchester?”
“Yup.” You get up from your seat, heading toward the door before anyone has time to stop you.
-
You’re covered in a cold sweat as you walk toward Sam’s office. You practically ran from the HR department to the elevators.
Shit. The woman behind the reception desk is the sour but familiar Lauren.
“Hi.” You hold up your hand in a curt wave. “I need to talk to Sa- Mr. Winchester.”
She blinks at you, clicking something on her computer.
“And you are?”
“Y/N, I’m a department liaison in legal.”
“You’re not on his schedule,” she barks back.
“Yeah, I know. But I need to talk to him. It’s important-”
“I’m sorry, you can put in a request but he doesn’t normally take meetings with non-department heads. He’s a very busy man.”
“Look lady-” you stop yourself to reel it back in, forcing composure. “Can you please just tell him I’m here? He’ll want to talk to me.”
“You need to submit a request,” she squints at you, looking you over head to toe in obvious judgment. “No exceptions.”
You flash a fuck you smile and check your phone again. Sometimes he doesn’t check his messages for hours and you need to get ahead of this.
“Sorry,” you mumble as you move toward his door.
“Hey, you, stop right there!” She grabs at your arm as you open the door and slip inside.
Sam is standing over his desk next to a shorter man, both of them looking down at something.
“Sam,” you call to get his attention, anticipating at least some displeasure at the disruption.
“What are you doing here?” He perks up, a smile erupting across his face.
“I’m sorry, I told her to put in a request,” Lauren moves in front of you, blocking Sam as if you’re here to attack him.
“She’s fine,” Sam gives a dismissive wave. “Actually this is perfect timing. Come here, Y/N. We’re looking at the first draft of blueprints.”
You clear your throat, looking vindictively at Lauren and make your way over to his desk.
“I actually-” Your voice wavers and he catches the hitch, now giving you all his attention.
“I need to talk to you for a moment. In private.”
“Chuck,” Sam looks at the happy little man “Will you give us a minute?”
“Sure,” Chuck pulls out his phone, hurrying out of the office, Lauren following after him.
“What’s wrong,” Sam skirts around his desk, coming to stand in front of you.
“I just came from human resources.” You’re practically out of breath.  “Someone heard us in my office last Wednesday. They were asking me if you’ve ever threatened my job in exchange for sexual favors.”
“Interesting. What did you tell them?” he asks, forever calm.
“I was honest. I said that whoever overheard us misunderstood. That it was a private moment. They wanted to know more but I said I wasn’t comfortable and left.  I told them about us, Sam. I didn’t know what else to do.”
“You did the right thing.” Sam grabs your hand, offering a gentle squeeze. “There’s nothing to worry about. Worst case scenario, our relationship becomes public knowledge.”
“Yeah, I guess.” You feel shaky, backing up to take a seat on the sofa.
“This was Cole,” Sam says, waving a hand. “I guarantee, it’s him. Who else could it possibly be?”
“You think?” Your head is spinning. “Maybe he came back for something in his office and he overhead us and mistook what was happening.”
“Maybe he came back for you and found you were otherwise occupied and got jealous.” Sam counters.
“Who knows at this point.” Your face is so hot you’re sure you must look like you’re about to explode. “Can’t we get a break?”
“Maybe this our break. Everything out in the open.” Sam shrugs. Seconds later his desk phone rings without Lauren screening the call. Few people have that kind of access to Sam. He picks up the line and looks at you before responding. “I have time...fifteen minutes...sure...I’ll see you then. Thanks, Jody.”
“Jesus,” you lean back on the sofa.
“They’ll come up, ask me a few questions and this will be over and done with. Unfortunately, our days of fucking at work are done, too. I have to set an example.”
“No kidding,” you laugh, exasperated. “I’ll go-”
“No, stay.” He picks up the blueprints and spreads them out over the coffee table. “Let me get Chuck back in here and he can show you the two designs he’s pitching.”
“I don’t think I can focus on this.” You look at the blueprints. It might as well be hieroglyphics.
“Yes you can.” He smiles down at you, taping your shoulder lightly. “This is what you need. A  distraction. Just take a look.”
Ten minutes later you’re overwhelmed in every sense of the word.
It’s clear Sam’s been paying attention and taking notes the whole time you’ve been together. After the party at Nick Luster’s, you mentioned how much you loved his solarium.
In one of the layouts, there’s just that, a sprawling solarium attached to the back of the house. In the second design, there’s a large greenhouse, complete with a nook dedicated to reading among the plants and flowers. There’s so much detail put into every inch, taking into account the view from the pool and if you’d like a privacy hedge or traditional fencing.
“Sam, I don’t know.” You look up, bug-eyed. “I’m not even sure what this would look like in real life. Are you sure you want my input?”
“Of course,” he’s standing over you and Chuck, hands on his hips. “Do we have a 3-D rendering she can see for reference?”
“Of course.” Chuck opens his laptop and brings up a design program.
There’s a knock and the door and Jody, Donna and two men you’ve never seen before are entering the office. The ladies must have brought reinforcements.
“Hello Mr. Winchester, we’re sorry to bother you. I know you’re busy but we’ve had a-” Jody stops short when she sees you, Donna nearly running into the back of her. Chuck seems completely unaffected, rattling on about porcelain versus ceramic tile. Jody looks back and forth between you and Sam.
There’s...doubt perhaps? The last thing they expected was to see you here.
“Forgive me, we’re in the beginning stages of designing our new home.” Sam looks down at you, placing a deliberate hand on your shoulder. It’s a physical gesture not inappropriate for the workplace but lingering enough to give a clear indication of intimacy. “Y/N why don’t you take Chuck to conference room #4. I’ll meet you two when I’m done here.”
“Sure,” you mutter, feeling five sets of eyes burning holes in your back as you leave the room with Chuck in tow. “Down here...sorry for the delay.”
You turn to him, feeling responsible for the intrusion.
“Hey, he pays me a lot of money to be at his beck and call,” Chuck smiles big and easy. “Let’s look at a few ideas I had for a master bedroom, shall we?”

ALOE : how does your muse handle grief ?
Honestly? Very, very differently from how others seem to process it. Especially when younger, given her life being built around the tending of the dead and that in their dark rest they know peace. For a long while, Hel saw no reason for lamenting death, knowing what lay beyond, though she understood it hurt others to have their time with a loved one cut short. This actually bit her in the ass at one point in an ask with a Gwynevere in that she got chewed out for not showing due contrition over the loss of others.
It took forging many bonds in the world beyond that she began to understand grief -- especially, I think, at the loss of Artorias. His death was meaningless, and cruel, and wholly avoidable, and there was nothing to celebrate in his passing. Lost to the Dark, there was surely no peace for him. I think that cut her the most deeply at first, and the impact his death had on those he left behind. It was only later on, when alone to think on it of her own accord, that she registered she missed him, and she wished he had come back after all, and that was her first brush with personal grief.
Even so, it has been fleeting in her life. She’s more likely to echo it as per decorum than truly feel it. When Gwyn died, she was more upset for his children than the loss of the king. She grieved that the king never appreciated his youngest as she should have been appreciated, that he never made amends with his firstborn, that he pushed such responsibility onto his already struggling eldest daughter. She grieved his failings and their impact, not his death, a secret she keeps close to the chest knowing how further deified the godfather has become in the centuries since.
I think this silent sense of grief for lives unlived deepens once she takes on Nito’s dominion and is further separated from others. Others will die, in time, god and human, king and beggar, all passing into what is now her keeping -- but she never will. She will stand and watch all things fall, and in the dark of the grave all will be reunited. Her grief is exhausting then, to watch old friends enter her dominion without a word, to see children she once doted upon be broken and put out of their misery during the final sputters of the light. In its final form, her grief is unexpressed but it is powerful, and she presses on because someone must when the rest are gone.
That said, at it’s deepest, Hel is seen to express her grief violently. For a brief period in the story, she’s openly gunning for the Undead after they kill Nito, pulled back from claiming them permanently only by their own undying nature and the firm rebuke of the Dark Sun. In turn, the loss of her beloved, even though they had been separated for at least a few decades, is expressed in the fact she’s hunting members of the Church of the Deep for sport. Just a widow and her scythe, demanding blood black as ichor for divine blood as if it can ever measure up.
BELLADONNA : how does your muse respond to silence ? do they take comfort in soundlessness , or seek to fill the void with noise ?
It depends on the situation, honestly! Silence is sort of the resting state of her home, where ones duties as a servant of the Graves should be done peacefully and with care taken not to disturb the dead. This manifests in a lack of light and treating the deceased with a sort of hushed reverence so their rest will be as comfortable as possible. The Fenito keep their work sacrosanct, though there are certain regions within their Lord’s dominion where the dead do not reach where japery and more open fraternization is encouraged. Even so, some of her siblings prefer to keep their silences, and so Hel is always comfortable with it. Silence, when comfortable or sacred, feels like home to her, and so she cherishes it.
However, she’s well aware that is the way of the Graves, and that the world outside is not beholden to such practices. Sometimes silences can be downright eerie even to her, a mark of the Darkness, a reminder of how far the splendor of a city has fallen. It can be an omen of violence past or present, or a mystery best left unpursued. In those moments, she might retreat from perceived threat as quietly as possible, or fill the still air with song or some other distraction from empty halls and paths.
In the good old days, especially, she sought to fill silences, eager to ask questions and make merry and in some way belong to the world of Light and all its decadence. Laughter was her calling card then, and fast-moving feet as she fled from whatever innocent mischief she wrought in Gwyn’s hall. Yet she loved more than anything to make those around her join in her mirth, whether by word or deed, and so she coveted the sound of other voices, of approval in her actions.
FERN : does your muse believe in magic or cosmic forces , or are they more likely to think their life is ultimately a matter of their own control ?
Magic is real and her dearest companion is a master of the craft. There are energies across all levels of the world which lend themself to those dedicated to their pursuit, and Hel thinks that’s actually pretty neat. Except for when it, like, drives the Paledrake mad or causes women to go missing in the night or -- Okay, maybe magic is far more a neutral force in this world. Neutral in that it falls to the wielder to decide what to do with it, rather than magic defining the user as some assume.
Hel is a staunch believer in accountability and the power of personal decision. be it in magic or life. She has, in the flow of the age, seen a lot of people do terrible things and then blame it on tradition, on necessity, on doing wrong for the right reasons. Perhaps due to her morality having developed separately from most surface-dwellers, she is very against the end justifies the means. Honestly the only reason she didn’t pull back from the plot to keep the flame burning sooner was just because the Undead needed to be dealt with, and at least this way the curse served some purpose. Notably, the second others spoke of using a living child as kindling she balked and abandoned everything she loved and called home after the loss of her Lord.
You can justify your choices through the Flame, through Gwyn, through your Covenant, through your orders, but at the end, all are left with how far they chose to go in that pursuit, and in that they must reflect and, if finally able to assert themself as more than pawn, atone. You cannot blame any force or power for personal failing, no matter if it might help you sleep at night -- or so Hel sees it.
SAGE : what is your muse’s legacy ? what do they want to be remembered for & what might they actually be remembered for ?
There’s actually a little headcanon title I gave Hel that really sums it up in certain time periods. Lunar Shadow -- that is, the shadow cast by the moon as depicted by Gwyndolin. She is the shade and mystery that clings fast to Luna in a lonely sky, the reflection of her will and power. Hel is never her lover’s pawn the way others accuse her, as shown in that she’s willing to butt heads with Gwyndolin on certain facets of the plan and her place in it, but she is inextricably linked to her all the same. Many will remember her as ally and acolyte of the Holy City in its twilight, bound to its cause like marriage vows.
In the golden age, however, she was the Mourning Princess, grey-clad and dust-soaked, a death that was both fair and welcoming. Others cossetted the strange creature, looked to her for amusement she, as already outlined, was all too willing to provide. Many godkin who fled will remember her for that, her good nature and sharp tongue, and a generous nature that adored even the most wretched creature that slithered across her host’s hall. The ending that most write is that she’s still in that city today, entangled in the arms and scaled limbs of that which she loved most dearly -- and for a time, they are not wrong.
Time shifts, however. In a far flung future, her Lord has been forgotten by all but her siblings, and she has risen to take Nito’s place. She’s revered as a goddess of death, Death-Who-Walks among the inhabitants of some far-flung land, black-clad and with a voice like song, ever-watchful. But Gods rise anew, in a land of snow and moonlight, and she is Queen, she is Beloved, she is the future of a people she never quite belonged to, the silk to glove her patron’s iron will. Her statues stand in the courtyards and palace, commissioned by one who loves her and wanted to depict what she saw as beauty. These stand even after that love has faded into opposition. And after her lover is gone, she is Avenger, Warrior, the Bane of heretics.
What I’m getting at here is that Hel’s legacy is different things to different people, from a stately queen of the dead to a curiosity in the eyes of gods. She’s the widow and divorcee depending on whose record you follow in her love life, and she’s both the hunter of heretics who spites the Church of the Deep and the vocal defender of a certain Prince’s choice to damn the Flame. She can’t really be neatly divided into simple lore because so much of what she is seems contradictory. That’s perfectly valid, too, as many that will be reduced to simple legacies were so much more than a condensed story as well.
All Hel wants, really, after she leaves the Land of Lord’s behind once there is no one left to tether here there, is to be remembered as someone who tried for others. Someone who fought for more than the legacy of a fool and the flame he coveted, someone who was able to see the bigger picture and hopefully leave an impact through her words and actions. But then, after all her life was over the extended age, I think the most she hopes for is to be forgotten and allowed to slip safely out of the narrative to make her own somewhere in the growing Dark.

A Dive Into Artistry and Athleticism (Pt. II)
With the basic information discussed and our minds enlightened with how the sport works, we will now be diving into the real deal of this blog post: the Full Team Event of Artistic Swimming at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
It would be crucial to note that I am not at all familiar with the technical terms and lingos of artistic swimming. So, I would like to put up the disclaimer that I will not be able to use them much in interpreting and analyzing the game; so, if the technical terms of the sport do show up but were not used according to its definition in the sport, then please assume that they were used in their regular and literal meaning. Or, if the terms will indicate their respective lingo meaning, then I apologize in advance for its potential misusage. Additionally, any opinions to be mentioned here are all of my own thought, since this is a subjective review.
For reference, we will be watching the event through this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRGQDubSAqw
Tumblr media
The full team event had took place on a bright sunny day in Rio de Janeiro, with the temperature at 24°C, the humidity at 68%, the wind direction going north north east, and the wind speed at 11.16km/h.
The event was the free routine, and the ordered list of the teams performing were as follows: Egypt, Australia, Italy, Brazil, Russian Federation, Ukraine, People’s Republic of China, and Japan. This list was also utilized for the technical routine portion of the competition, but the order was changed; the first 4 to perform in the free routine portion were the last 4 to perform in the technical routine event the day before, same with the last 4 in the free routine event being the first 4 to perform in the technical routine portion. Moreover, within those groups of 4, each team was chosen at random to perform next.
According to one of the announcers, the event had three specific panels of judges: there was a panel who would judge based on execution and synchronization, another panel will base points on artistic impression, and the last panel will judge the difficulty of the presentation.
Soon, the competition began and the first team to compete was coming up the deck.
Egypt
The first team to compete was Egypt, and as soon as they stepped up the stairs and went up to the deck, they began a short performance for their entrance, that I do appreciate seeing since it added to artistry of their performance as a whole.
As for their proper performance – just...wow. I can’t get too technical since it is a free routine, but just seeing their performance unfold was astounding to witness. The sheer strength and breath control they must have to be able to flip in and out of the water with no rests in between – watching them admittedly left me breathless. Bear in mind that this is the first performance of artistic swimming I’ve seen, which is why I am reacting like this.
From what I could see, Egypt executed about 4 lifts and 3 lifted tosses mixed with various leg and raised-upper-body movements. And while the tosses, according to the announcers, took a bit more time to be set up than usual, they were still impressively done; same goes for the lifts that were littered all throughout the performance.
What really intrigued me with this act, as well as artistic swimming in general, is that all the movements they do are so well-thought of and calculated. The Egypt team athletes had performed the whole 4 minutes without even staggering in their skills. Even when nearing the end of their act, their legs still moved in precise angles quickly along the fast beat that played through the speakers – and mind you, they still had giant smiles plastered on their faces. I don’t know about you, but that to me screams utter determined professionalism.
It wasn't long until the end of Egypt's performance came, and the announcement of points immediately followed the performance. Moving on - on the authority of the panels of judges, Egypt’s score had totaled to 78.5667 for the free routine – 23.5000 for execution, 31.4667 for artistic impression, 23.6000 for difficulty, and 0.0 for penalty. Prior to their free routine score, they also managed to attain a score of 76.9838 for their technical routine. With both scores, Egypt in total had a score of 155.5505 in the whole artistic swimming event, which tentatively placed them in first.
Australia
The second team to compete was Australia, and according to the announcer, the team adopted an ‘Outback’ theme that featured ‘unique flora and fauna.’ Like Egypt, they also had a performance for an entrance before diving into the pool for their main showcase.
Australia began with a full standing lift with one of the athletes, followed by – what I assume is – a back stretch lift. After that was a lifted toss that took a bit of time to be set up. The athletes also executed numerous individual flips across the water. Their pattern was phenomenal for their routine, and comparing their artistry with Egypt’s – I can say they offered more, overall.
I did, however, notice that the precision in their synchronization was a bit off compared to Egypt’s that was more defined. It isn’t too noticeable, but if you’re looking for it, then you can catch some of the athletes falling a fraction of a second behind their other team mates when doing certain movements.
Granted that Australia’s athletes were relevantly new and that they were doing more difficult patterns and movements for their level of expertise, the off in precision is understandable. They did good though, and their performance was fun to watch, as well as interesting since they incorporated a lot of elements that matched the theme they were going for.
After the end of their performance, the scores were announced. On the authority of the panels of judges, Australia’s score had totaled to 75.4333 for the free routine – 22.6000 for execution, 30.1333 for artistic impression, 22.7000 for difficulty, and 0.0 for penalty. Prior to their free routine score, they also managed to attain a score of 74.0667 for their technical routine. With both scores, Australia in total had a score of 149.50 in the whole artistic swimming event, which tentatively placed them in second.
Italy
The third team to compete was Italy, and like Australia, they also had a theme, that which was ‘Seasons of Earth,’ and all of their athletes – save for one of them – were also first-timers.
After a short showcase as an entrance, the Italian athletes dove into the pool and began their main performance. Starting off with a 2-flip toss, the Italy team was off to a good start.
Their synchronization was spot on, and their interpretations of the Earth’s seasons were also artistically impressive. Their patterns were executed well, and every single position was seemingly well-defined. They displayed an immense amount of core strength and speed as first-timers, and to see them transition so quickly from one segment into another was really a sight for sore eyes.
In comparison to Australia and Egypt, I believe Italy’s precision was more concrete and cleanly exhibited. Their formations were well put-together, and most – if not all – of their lifts (which were noticeably more, compared to the last two teams) were very powerful. When you see them without knowing a bit of their background, you’d think that they were seasoned Olympians and not like the first-timers that they were.
Because of the speed that they utilized in executing their routine positions and patterns, I’m sure that the athletes were tired after doing all of them, but all through to the end of their performance, not once did they falter nor did their tiredness seep into their movements. And that, to me, is very impressive to witness.
After the end of their performance, the scores were announced. On the authority of the panels of judges, Italy’s score had totaled to 92.2667 for the free routine – 27.5000 for execution, 37.0667 for artistic impression, 27.7000 for difficulty, and 0.0 for penalty. Prior to their free routine score, they also managed to attain a score of 91.1142 for their technical routine. With both scores, Italy in total had a score of 183.3809 in the whole artistic swimming event, which immediately pushed them up into first place, leaving Egypt and Australia largely behind.
Brazil
The fourth team to compete was Brazil – specifically mentioned as “The Carnival.” Judging from their appearance right at the start, I could tell that their performance was going to be bright and lively.
They began with an artistic flip toss that kickstarted an impressive synchronization among movements, as patterns were unfolded and the whole presentation was beginning to play off.
The speed at which the athletes transitioned from position to position was an immense sight to behold – the way their legs just moved so quickly even while hitting the water; everything was near-perfect, and it was only still the beginning of their performance.
Brazil incorporated a lot of elements that presented their home country in the presentation, and the athletes’ executions of such elements definitely contributed to the artistic impression that they were going for.
Like Australia, Brazil too had a lot of formations all throughout, and the swimmers also transitioned into them so quickly yet so precisely. This team’s movements were absolutely neatly executed, even when, I assume, the swimmers must have been tired by then – it really shows how much endurance they have to keep going at the speed they were going, while also doing a multitude of things one after the other in a cleanly executed manner.
Brazil’s whole presentation just screamed and conveyed absolute precision. And I think I’ve already mentioned this before, but I’ll say it again for good measure – their synchronization is really spot-on, even with the speed.
After ending their performance in a circle formation with the hands clasped together and raised up in the air, the scores were announced. On the authority of the panels of judges, Brazil’s score had totaled to 87.2000 for the free routine – 26.1000 for execution, 34.8000 for artistic impression, 26.3000 for difficulty, and 0.0 for penalty. Prior to their free routine score, they also managed to attain a score of 84.7985 for their technical routine. With both scores, Brazil in total had a score of 171.9985 in the whole artistic swimming event, which placed them right behind Italy but ahead of Egypt and Australia.
Russian Federation
The fifth team to compete was the Russian Federation – the defending champions – with the theme of ‘Angels.’
The powerful music began, and after the swimmers dived into the pool to set-up for their beginning lift, they executed a breathtaking flip that I believe really showed the expertise that these seasoned athletes had.
Launching into strong patterns, the synchronization was heavily present in Russia’s presentation. Granted that their moves were slower in speed compared to Italy and Brazil, the Russian swimmers made up for it in artistry, precision, and power.
The way the athletes executed their moves and positions – it seemed like everything was calculative in that it was all done at the same height, in the same manner, at the same amount of time; thus really showing their synchronization to the point that it could even be said that they were really mirroring each other – even the way they sculled were almost – if not, really – identical. Now, this might seem a bit of a stretch but witnessing a performance like theirs, only good things can be said, and I say this as objectively as possible.
The patterns they incorporated were near-perfect and really elegant, I could say. Their whole choreography – from the beginning and, I assume, up until the end – was really well thought-out and very original; the illusions, fluidity and artistic movements they do with their whole bodies were really an impressive sight to behold.
At the rate and exactness that they went, I have really high hopes for this team.
After finishing off their presentation with a lift that was well-balanced and executed, their scores were announced. On the authority of the panels of judges, the Russian Federation’s score had totaled to 99.1333 for the free routine – 29.7000 for execution, 39.7333 for artistic impression, 29.7000 for difficulty, and 0.0 for penalty. Prior to their free routine score, they also managed to attain a score of 97.0106 for their technical routine. With both scores, the Russian Federation in total had a score of 196.1439 in the whole artistic swimming event, propelling them way up in first place and leaving a very big gap to catch up to for the other teams in their wake.
Ukraine
The sixth team to compete was Ukraine, and this team was mentioned to be fighting closely against Japan for the bronze medal. With the theme of ‘Illusionism’ and ‘The Magic Box,’ these elegant swimmers dressed in white were ready to take what they deserved.
After diving into the pool, the athletes quickly got into formation to set off an impressive flip that kickstarted their presentation. Following that, they launched into moves that displayed a great amount of strength and balance, thus already rendering their performance amazing.
The speed at which they executed the combination of positions for their routine really bode well with their synchronization. According to the announcer, this was the first time Ukraine dabbled into team events, but they were already doing really well as first-timers.
The nature of some of their movements were noticeably not as difficult to execute compared to the moves done by previous teams, but the exactness at which they execute them, I think, is the reason why they are hard to do for other athletes. The precision they display with their combined positions whilst being in very close proximity amongst each other really shows how much strength, endurance and expertise they have.
Aside from their movements being done in a synchronized manner along to the beat of the music, Ukraine’s formations were also really impressive, and the transitions the swimmers did to move into such formations were unfalteringly quick.
Each movement the athletes made flowed well into each other. And the one thing I really want to point out, without even saying much since it speaks for itself, is the high split done in mid-air after a tossed lift by one of the athletes at around the 46:20 timestamp.
After closing the presentation in an artistic circle formation, the scores were announced. On the authority of the panels of judges, Ukraine’s score had totaled to 95.1667 for the free routine – 28.2000 for execution, 38.2667 for artistic impression, 28.7000 for difficulty, and 0.0 for penalty. Prior to their free routine score, they also managed to attain a score of 93.4413 for their technical routine. With both scores, Ukraine in total had a score of 188.6080 in the whole artistic swimming event, which placed the team tentatively at second place behind the Russian Federation and ahead of Italy.
People's Republic of China
The seventh team to compete was the People’s Republic of China, and the team adopted a dragon theme, specifically titled as ‘Finding Dragon.’
They began their set with a flip toss that incorporated full-body spins in mid-air. Followed by moves that illusioned a flowing square pattern, the team was already off to a good start.
The angles that these swimmers moved into, the precision, the power, and the elegance to their movements – everything contributed nicely and neatly to their whole performance. Not only were they exact in where they wanted a limb to be placed up in the air, but they also managed to show their personalities through their movements.
The sequences of their patterns, positions and formations were woven well into each other without even taking a fraction of a second to rest in between them. The interpretations, as well, to their theme definitely contributed to the artistic impression that they were aiming for.
While their transitions to formations and positions weren’t as quick as the previous groups, the Chinese athletes still outdid themselves in the nature and fluidity of their movements. Not to mention that each of their patterns were done so skillfully even at the speed they were going at – it really shows how much they wanted to win gold after seeing Russia’s performance in that event.
Their whole routine was spot on and magnificent, I must say. It was culturally artistic with just the right amount of athleticism poured into it.
With the end of their performance came the announcement of scores. And, on the authority of the panels of judges, the People’s Republic of China’s score had totaled to 97.3667 for the free routine – 29.1000 for execution, 39.0667 for artistic impression, 29.2000 for difficulty, and 0.0 for penalty. Prior to their free routine score, they also managed to attain a score of 95.6174 for their technical routine. With both scores, the People’s Republic of China in total had a score of 192.9841 in the whole artistic swimming event, and which pushed the team right up at second place behind the Russian Federation and ahead of Ukraine. While it was seemingly not quite the gold that they were hoping to obtained, at least the swimmers will be going home with a shiny silver medal around their necks and the whole pride of China on their hearts.
Japan
The eighth and last team to compete was Japan, and like most of the previous teams who already performed, they too had a theme they adopted – ‘The Dawn Start of a New Glory Towards the Sun.’
At the drum of their music, the swimmers quickly dove into the pool to get into formation, readying themselves to execute their beginning lifts. With a lifted toss that also incorporated full-body spins, quickly followed by a spinning lift, Japan had kickstarted off into a brilliant start.
Right off the bat, their synchronization was already well-displayed in their quick combinations and patterns, showing off an amazing sequence of leg positions that rivaled that of the other teams’.
After starting with a music that was a touch bit cultural as it sounded like it was played by traditional instruments, the music had transitioned into a sound that was seemingly being played by more modern instruments, thus igniting a bright and lively vibe to the whole performance. The athletes' whole vibe changed upon the transition of the music, and that, in itself, was a really good show of artistic impression.
There was one lift that I really want to touch upon – the lift executed at the 59:58 timestamp. It was a breathtaking section to see as it displayed magnificent balance, and seeing the other members working hard underneath the lifted athlete just proves the difficulty of execution for that one specific lift.
The music, after that section, transitioned back into a soft cultural piano instrumental that really presented well along with the athletes’ elegant choreography. The successive flips followed by the smooth patterns were telling of how well and how fluid the theme was being interpreted by these athlete-performers.
Nearing the ending of the showcase, the music took a festival-vibe turn, and as the performance transitioned accordingly to it, not once did the swimmers show any sign of faltering nor slowing down in their movements.
Ending on such a powerful note, Japan had finished their presentation, and the announcement of their scores were quick to follow. On the authority of the panels of judges, Japan’s score had totaled to 95.4333 for the free routine – 28.5000 for execution, 38.1333 for artistic impression, 28.8000 for difficulty, and 0.0 for penalty. Prior to their free routine score, they also managed to attain a score of 93.7723 for their technical routine. With both scores, Japan in total had a score of 189.2056 in the whole artistic swimming event, which successfully acquired them the bronze medal they were hoping
Tumblr media
With all eight teams having competed already, the full team event came to a close. The order of winners are as follows: Russia in first place, China in second, Japan in third, Ukraine in fourth, Italy in fifth, Brazil in sixth, Egypt in seventh, and Australia in eighth.

Being a complete newbie to this sport, every single performance I’ve seen for this review really opened my eyes to how much work is put into by each and every athlete. Not only do they have to strengthen their bodies and move as precisely as possible, but they also have to be limber and flexible enough to move so elegantly. Their ability to make each movement, each position, each highlight and each formation look so easy is just outstanding and breathtaking to witness.
Personally, I think Russia was just miles ahead from the other teams, not including the fact that they were multi-time winners of the Olympics for artistic swimming. The sheer strength, power, endurance, elegance and calculation into every move really separated them from the other teams. They were noticeably slower in some transitions, yes, but only in fractions of a second, and what they lost in speed, they made up for in difficulty and in execution. With the performance they presented in that event, it is safe to say they successfully defend their title.
China, in comparison, was also almost as strong as Russia, but the precision in some of their movements, especially because of the speed, were a bit lesser compared to Russia. They too executed moves that looked easy but were difficult in reality, but had they poured in a bit more into its execution, I’m sure that the artistic impression and difficulty would have displayed more prominently in their routine.
Japan and Ukraine were in a really close match, and you could see that they really did the best of their best against each other, even though Japan won in the end by mere decimals. Italy also did really well, but I could see there was still more room for improvement; their speed of execution was definitely something I have to hand to them because the quickness in their movements was just astounding to see. The rest of the teams – Brazil, Egypt and Australia – had done tremendous jobs as well, especially for their athletes who were mostly first-timers at the Olympics and newly exposed to the standards of the worldwide competition.
Overall, the full team event was not only so informative but also so staggeringly amazing to see. I’m glad I got to know another new sport that, I’m sure, will soon take the world by storm in its prime.
That marks the end of this blog post. If you’ve reached this far, I thank you for taking the time to sift through my musings and opinions. That is all for the review on the Full Team Event of Artistic Swimming at the 2016 Rio Olympics. See you in the next blog post!

Weekend Top Ten #454
Top Ten Launch Games
Oooh, it’s finally here!
By the time you read this, the Xbox Series X/S consoles will be out, and the PlayStation 5 will be imminent if not already with us. At the time of writing I’ve yet to sample either console, although hopefully that will soon change. However, it’s a bit of a weird console launch, especially for Xbox owners, as there’s not much in the way of actual launch titles. PlayStation has the excellent-looking technical showcase (in that it shows off their sexy new controller, if not necessarily the excesses of the console’s visual prowess) Astro’s Playroom. But on the Xbox side, the only genuine first-party exclusive (not including the port of rather smashing PC title Gears Tactics) was to be the troubled Halo Infinite, which has now been pushed to next year to deal with some of its apparent graphical deficiencies. For what it’s worth, as a Halo fan, I thought the actual gameplay presented looked as good as it always has, so I’m still very excited, but it’s a shame not to sample something genuinely new and shiny at launch. For me, then – as someone not getting a PlayStation this year – I’m going to have to contend myself with updated versions of older games, and hopefully something like the really exciting-looking The Falconeer or, eventually, Cyberpunk 2077.
Of course, it’s not always been like this; in the past, a landmark game has often been the core reason to upgrade to a new console. Certain titles have defined their hardware platforms, offering a taste of the experiences to come, be it through revolutionary control systems, previously-unimaginable graphics, or simply by shattering preconceptions and expectations. As such, this weekend I’m celebrating my favourite launch titles.
Now, a couple of my usual caveats. I’ve hardly owned any consoles in the grand scheme of things; I was a computer gamer until the launch of the first Xbox, and even then was PC-first until about midway through the 360’s life. As such I came to a lot of these late, or played them on friends’ systems. I’m sure a videogame historian would give you another list, one that was able to put each title into its historical perspective. For my part, I’m mostly basing it on how much I like the game, but I am also trying to weight it in terms of its “importance”. I mean, one of my favourite “launch titles” of all time would be Lego Marvel Super Heroes on the Xbox One/PS4, but that seems a bit of a ridiculous game to call a launch title, especially as it doesn’t really show off the hardware or define the generation in any particular way. I just think it rocks. So I’m trying to judge it also in terms of how effective a given game was at being a launch title, as well as my personal preference; as such, some games, which I think are more emblematic of their time or their hardware, might end up higher in the list than if I was otherwise just ranking my favourites.
Christ, that was boring. Look, here are ten games that I like that came out when a console came out. Have at it.
Tumblr media
Halo: Combat Evolved (Xbox, 2001): it’s not just that it made playing an FPS on a console as comfortable and enjoyable as on PC, but it revolutionised what an FPS could do. Expansive open landscapes, dynamic combat with intelligent enemies, an ingenious shield/health combo, two weapons, drivable vehicles, and frankly outstanding graphics. And for Xbox – a curious underdog, a big black sheep devoid of cool or class and feeling like Microsoft was trying to buy its way into the console space with a hefty dose of brute force – here was something unique, something incredible. I don’t think anyone quite expected Halo, and it’s arguable that it single-handedly changed not only Microsoft and Xbox’s fortunes but the entire game industry too.
Wii Sports (Wii, 2005): the Wii was this strange outlier, a tiny white box that eschewed the grunt and girth of its rivals, and seemingly built around its unique motion controller. Would it work? Wii Sports proved that yes it would, a delightful bundle of games that perfectly showed what the console and controller could do. Immense fun in and of itself, but the Wii’s ability to lower the barrier of entry to non-gamers meant that your dad could thrash your brother at bowling. And that is a thing to cherish forever.
Tetris (GameBoy, 1989): depending on where you look, Tetris may just be the best-selling game of all time. It’s on everything now, from the Xbox Series X to your watch. But there was a time when “Tetris” meant “GameBoy”; that four-colour greenscreen box of wonder that everybody had but me. It was beyond ubiquitous, and its short-form nature and simplistic styling made it ideal for the portable console, its chirpy and iconic music sounding perfect coming from those tiny speakers. And above all else, of course, Tetris is fantastic, one of the greatest games of all time. It was a perfect marriage of software and hardware.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Switch, 2017): so here’s the thing: I like Zelda, but I’ve never fallen in love with it. I didn’t grow up with it, so coming to Ocarina of Time, there were too many old-fashioned trappings in the way; it just didn’t feel as enthralling or as fun to play as, say, Half-Life or Deus Ex. BOTW changed that; the limitations were gone, the world was blown wide open. It no longer felt like an 80s game in three dimensions, it felt new. Better than new – it felt like tomorrow. Despite the Switch being graphically weaker than its contemporaries, BOTW was and is simply gorgeous to look at, but it’s how it plays, how it feels like a vast but real world, how it has its own rules and they make sense instantly. It’s the greatest open world game of all time, and emergent physics sandbox, and yet it’s still unquestionably Zelda, emphatically Nintendo. Okay, it technically came out on the Wii U at the same time, but who the hell played that? This was the game that made you want a Switch.
Super Mario 64 (N64, 1997): this is often the game people cite as being one of the great revolutionary launch titles, but I must confess its charms were lost to me at first. Taking what was great about Mario and converting it expertly into 3D was a heck of a feat; graphically for the time it certainly impressed in the scale of its worlds, and whilst back then I felt it lacked the detail and granularity of some PC titles, in retrospect it was a perfectly-suited art style, offering smooth textures even when right up close. But it was its precise controls and the open, hub-based nature of its worlds that was revolutionary; many games aped its style, but it took a long time before anything really matched it.
Hexic HD (Xbox 360, 2005): not every game here has to be some genre-busting graphical powerhouse; they can be simple but quietly revolutionary. Hexic HD is a terrific puzzle game with a simple hook, brilliantly executed, and enough intrigue and nuance to keep you coming back for one more go, to beat your high score, to get to the next tricksy level. But the time and manner of its release, and what that signified, marked it out as something more important. It was the first Xbox Live Arcade title; Microsoft’s curated gallery of smaller, more indie-flavoured games. More than that, it was free, coming pre-installed on all Xbox 360 Pros (the ones with the removable hard drive). It was a taste of what was to come, introducing audiences not only to the idea of playing these kinds of smaller, less intense games on a console, but also the idea of purchasing and downloading them digitally. It was great and ground-breaking in equal measure.
WipEout (PlayStation, 1995): I kinda missed the PlayStation generation. I was still, more or less, in my PC-centric “consoles are toys” mindset (which I wouldn’t fully shake off till the release of the N64). But I came to appreciate its qualities as a cool, exciting, super-fast futuristic racer. I’m pretty sure it’s not the first 3D hover-car racing game, but it was presented in such a groovy package that it ticket all the boxes, and helped show off just what the PlayStation was capable of in terms of its 3D graphics and CD sound. And, of course, it helped define the console as being a bit more edgy and grown-up than the previous Nintendo and Sega stalwarts.
Super Mario Bros. (NES, 1988): what can be said about one of the most iconic games of all time? Mario Bros defined not only a console, not only a generation, but arguably an entire artform. Creating what we now know as a platform game, it expanded and surpassed the basic template of Donkey Kong into a roaming adventure, part twitch-gaming reaction test, part puzzle game. I played a lot of copycat games on my Amiga, but even then, as a whiny computer brat, I knew that Mario was better. Even when my cousins got a MegaDrive and Sonic, I knew – deep in my heart – that Mario was better. It's a deep game, an endlessly replayable game, a supremely fair game despite its difficulty. I think it’s hard to overstate just how good, or how influential, Mario was.
Project Gotham Racing (Xbox, 2001): I tried hard to pick a different platform for every game in this list, but I couldn’t exclude PGR. This may be tied up with my biography a little bit, but my other half and I played this game to death. I never think of myself as a big racer fan, but every once in a while a title comes out that I just really, really get into – Jaguar XJ220 on the Amiga, Midtown Madness on PC, the Forza Horizon series nowadays – and PGR did that in spades. A gorgeous arcade racer, it was a great launch title to show off the sheer grunt of the Xbox; then, as now, the most powerful console on the market. It also offered a terrific four-player split-screen. But its Kudos feature – borrowed from semi-prequel Metropolis Street Racer – offered ways to win outside of sheer racing graft, awarding cool driving. I still love the original, and I kinda wish they’d bring back or reimagine its city-based driving for a future release or Forza spin-off.
Lumines: Puzzle Fusion (PSP, 2004): okay, so this is a bit of a cheat as I've barely played the original PSP version, but Lumines is just phenomenal; the best moving-blocks-around game since Tetris, and probably the most influential one since then too (for the record, I've played it extensively on multiple other platforms). An excellent spin on a Tetris-a-like, its use of music and colour made it a beautiful, brilliant sensory experience. With Sony entering the handheld market, the PSP needed a USP, something vibrant and cool that suited a portable experience, and Lumines provided it in spades; also its funky visuals and music was a good fit for Sony’s brand.
Well, that was fun, and a lot harder than I expected. If you’re enjoying a new console this Christmas, then hopefully you’ll have fun with one of the new launch titles too – even if I doubt any (apart from maybe Astro) would trouble a list like this in the future (although I do think The Falconeer looks all kinds of cool).

Hogwarts House Anime Recommendations pt 2: Gryffindor!
A couple years ago, I made some posts with anime recommendations based on Hogwarts houses. And in case you haven’t noticed, there’s been a lot of new anime that’s come out in that time, and I’ve thought of some other things that I think people may have missed. And I was bored…So if you have ever wanted some anime recommendations with the same general themes and tones, maybe you’ll find something here.
Other house recs:
Gryffindor pt 1
Hufflepuff pt 1
Hufflepuff pt 2
Ravenclaw pt 1
Ravenclaw pt 2
Slytherin pt 1
Slytherin pt 2
Last but not least is GRYFFINDOR! Or as I call it, the house of main characters, where one is brave, adventurous, heroic, reckless, and always fights for what’s right. Because Gryffindor is kinda the...most popular house, I always seem to focus on more popular anime because they fit the traits so well. So that’s why this list may seem a little more mainstream. And I talk about most of these in my 2019 Anime Worth Watching lists, so the descriptions might sound familiar.
Cardcaptor Sakura: A classic magical girl anime in which a 10-year-old girl named Sakura accidentally releases a bunch of magical cards made by a mysterious sorcerer into the world and must collect them all to stop them from wreaking havoc. This anime was made in 1998, but it recently got a continuation called Cardcaptor Sakura Clear Card, which picks up right where the series left off and is equally amazing. This is a delightful anime with amazing characters that formed a lot of people’s love for the magical girl genre. There’s mystery, action, adventure, cute outfits, cute romance, and like any other CLAMP work, a lot of LGBT subjects. And when I say subjects, I mean CLAMP makes a lot of canonically gay characters who are in canon relationships, and no one can dispute it.
While this show is very much for a younger audience at the beginning, I watched it as an adult, and I still loved it all the way through. Sakura is a great Gryffindor protagonist who always does what’s right even when it’s hard, and she grows so much over the course of the show. Not to mention the mystery of the Clow Cards will always keep you coming back for more. And I should mention, the best thing about Cardcaptor Sakura is that it’s kind of the start of the larger CLAMP universe. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, the creators of Cardcaptor Sakura (a group called CLAMP) have made a ton of other works over many years...and eventually those all sort of intersect and basically become the Marvel Cinematic Universe of anime and manga. While this is a good, lighter story with some heavier undertones, it can be a good introduction into the darker CLAMP universe. So, if you want a cute, classic magical girl show that doesn’t overdo the campiness, this is a great one that a lot of younger people haven’t watched.
Tumblr media
Demon Slayer- Kimetsu no Yaiba: A shounen action/adventure in which a boy named Tanjiro comes home to find his entire family has been slaughtered by demons...all except for his younger sister Nezuko who has been transformed into one! Now he and Nezuko must embark on a journey to turn her back to normal while fighting demons along the way. The premise may sound basic, but this is a great show with a well-made protagonist who is not super annoying, a kick ass little sister, and some very entertaining side characters. Not to mention the fighting system and the villains are super dope.
It hasn’t even finished airing yet but this has been one of the most popular shows of 2019, and for good reason. While it started out as kind of...bland...it quickly grew into one of the most entertaining and emotional shows of the year with its own jaw droppingly beautiful and unique animation from Ufotable. I think you could make the argument that Tanjiro is a Hufflepuff because he’s so blatantly nice, but I think he’s a true Gryffindor at heart because he does a lot of reckless fighting all for the sake of others. Yes, he is very kind to the point where even when he fights demons, he does so with a sense of compassion and understanding as opposed to the “I must avenge my family” trope. I also think Nezuko is a Gryffindor because she is constantly fighting off her demonic instincts in order to help people. They are a great duo, and the side characters really bring the show together for an awesome, emotional, action-packed adventure that I hope will become a modern classic.
Tumblr media
Made in Abyss: A mysterious adventure story (with a dash of horror) that takes place in a fantasy city where explorers are constantly trying to get to the bottom of a mysterious chasm that lays outside the town. The story follows a girl named Riko and a boy named Reg who are pushed into an adventure trying to find Riko’s mother at the bottom of the abyss and discover the secrets of the creatures inside it. It’s a thrilling escapade with a lot of mind-blowing mysteries. Yes, the characters are drawn in a cute chibi style, but do not be fooled. This show has some heavy subjects and more gore and body horror than you’d expect.
This was one of the best shows of 2017 (if not the best), and I need so much more of it. Riko and Reg are great Gryffindor protagonists who are strong in different ways, brave beyond measure, and loyal to a fault. The creatures and threats of the abyss are incredibly interesting (and also terrifying), and the world building and atmosphere are off the charts. You know this is going to be a great show from the first episode.
Tumblr media
Run with the Wind (Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru): An anime in which 10 misfit roommates are all manipulated/coerced/forced into running in a prestigious race even though almost none of them have any running experience. Now, you may think a “sports” anime with so many main characters would be trying to juggle too much. And you’d be wrong. This anime has the perfect balance of amazingly real characters and an intriguing plot that makes you really want to see these boys succeed even though you know it’s a crazy idea.
Okay, I admit that Haiji, the captain of this team who is responsible for forcing all his roommates to participate is 100% a Slytherin, but the main character Kakeru is a Gryffindor all the way. He’s a good example of a different kind of Gryffindor. He’s not the outwardly boisterous or chivalrous type of sports anime protagonist, but he is quietly brave and definitely reckless in his own way. Also, the team in general has a lot of Gryffindor spirit because they are putting in so much work and commitment to something for the sake of their friend, even though they know they have no chance of winning this race. And that takes a lot of bravery. I also think the whole team has a sense of unity and camaraderie that is unique to Gryffindor house. This anime was absolutely amazing, definitely one of the most underrated shows of 2018, with great music, a lot of feelings, really defined characters with great interactions, and an unbelievable story. Plus, it’s made by Production I.G, the king of sports anime, so you know it’s gonna be good!
Tumblr media
Dororo: A dark action reboot of the 1969 anime in which a samurai lord trades the limbs and organs of his son to demons in exchange for prosperity for his land. Unbeknownst to him, his son grows into young warrior named Hyakkimaru, who travels across the land fighting monsters to regain his lost limbs with the help of a lovable scamp named Dororo. This show is how to do a dark gritty reboot right, with more fleshed-out story lines, cool animation, a compelling story of brotherhood and good and evil, AND IT HAS A MAIN CHARACTER WHO CAN’T SEE OR HEAR WHO TOTALLY KICKS ASS!
I cannot sing the praises of this anime highly enough, even though the last episode was a little...different from what we were expecting. Still, I had Dororo as my top anime of 2019 until I watched The Promised Neverland, because every episode was such a wild ride full of action, adventure, and family drama that’s actually interesting. This is a solid Gryffindor anime because the whole thing centers around sacrifice and how what is considered “good” differs from person to person. What starts out as a clear line between right and wrong becomes blurry as Hyakkimaru regains his limbs, and eventually he must avoid becoming a monster himself, with the help of 100% Gryffindor certified Dororo. Dororo is a treasure to this world, and we are not worthy of this wonderful child.
Tumblr media
I also want to include another bonus anime: Vinland Saga! It’s the long-awaited Viking anime about a young boy named Thorfinn who must fight among the enemy to avenge the death of his father. I had a bonus anime with Ravenclaw, and I wanted to include this one because even though it also is not over, I can just tell it’s an absolute Gryffindor anime. I can’t really explain why this is a Gryffindor anime at its core, but it just is. It’s the general vibe of bravery and recklessness that makes it a good show for this house.

3, 7, 11, 22 for Furia, 28, and 38 from the Fic Writer Asks?
Fic Writer Asks
3: what motivates you? I’ve kind of given up on motivation. Because motivation can be hit or miss for me. But defining an actual writing time worked well in January, and I’ve gone back to that focus this month as well. In February, I had some prompts that motivated me back into character development and work, but it was not done consistently.
Sometimes just tossing a character into a new situation can motivate me to want to write about them.
7: hardest/easiest verse to write for?Right now, honestly, they all feel hard. It used to be that Mass Effect was my goto fandom. I think that shifted a few years back to Saint Row.
Dragon Age has always been a fandom that kills me. And shockingly Far Cry 5 is turning out to be a tough one for me to write in.
11: (if you use) what do you like about archiveofourown?I love the ease of refining your search in AO3 and the CSS for the stories is nice, and you always know where to find the things you might usually look for. It is really a beautiful site and I love how responsive they try to be with the needs of the writers and readers.
38: do you title your chapters? what’s your favorite chapter title? what’s its significance/why did you choose it? I try to. I don’t think my titles are in anyway exciting. They tend to be one or two or a few words, maybe a phrase. Sometimes they feel right perfect. Most of the time however they are just kind of thrown in there. I’m rather fond of Excessive Heat Exposure from First Watch of the Night it not only captured the feeling of Therum in the ME timeline, but also the kind of slow burn that was revving up for Shepard and Kaidan. I’m not sure I remember how I chose it. I might have heard it after I was writing or I might have chosen it in the outline process. I’m honestly not quite sure when I came up with it. If I recall, it’s a term from somewhere ... not sure if it is science or medicine. Of course, I could also be completely wrong on that.
22: favorite line/quote/inner monologue from this character? Answered under the cut, because I love this little play between Furia and Troy. It’s a bit of both dialogue and inner monologue and shows the dichotomy of her reason and feeling--that battle between logic and heart that is so key to this character for me.
Troy leaned a little closer to her, pulling her against him in a calculated display meant for a particular audience and to achieve a specific purpose, she knew. Despite that, his proximity merely heightened her anxiety. The slight sense of comfort offered by having one of her own with her was nearly entirely wiped away with the weight of his hand on her waist. His breath at her ear had her pulse racing at a near dizzying pace again.
“You good?” he asked.
“Yeah, I’m fine,” she said, turning toward him. When her eyes met his, her mind was stripping through gears trying to find a way to slow down. She swallowed back the lump choking her. “I’ll be right back.”
You’re a complete and utter idiot, Furia. You just keep playing with fire. And yet again you’ll end up burned through to the core and singed around the edges for good measure when this all crashes and burns around you. She slipped into the front seat of the Bootlegger and pulled the two stacks from the bag. Furia knew there would be a buy in for the race and she knew from Miguel’s ramblings over the last year that it tended toward the steep side of things even when the stakes were considered low.
Taking a deep breath she leaned back in the seat and glanced in the mirror. She could still see the flush on her cheeks. Part of her hoped people, including Troy, would chalk it up to the chill in the air. “You should have called Memo,” she muttered, rubbing her hand over her forehead.
“Should have called Memo for what?”
“Christ.” Startled, she shifted farther into the car. Taking a deep breath, she looked up and saw him leaning casually on the roof in the open car door. He has to see it. She was sure there was no way anyone could miss how flustered Troy had her, even him. Sometimes he seemed so oblivious to it; it made her wonder if Bradshaw did it just for sport.
“To let him know what I was doing. If he or Miguel find out from one of these idiots,” she said, shaking her head in part to clear it, “I’ll have to listen to them whine about it for weeks.”
Troy tugged his phone out of his pocket. When she reached for it, he pulled it back and sank to a crouch so that in that moment she loomed over him. She could tell he had something to say.
“I can back off,” he offered, toying with the device in his hands as he looked up at her.
She slid toward him slightly. As much as the sane part of her could have used precisely that, there was a completely certifiable side of her that wanted his attention, even it if was feigned.
“If you do, the vultures will descend.”
He looked up at her and nodded. “And we wouldn’t want that,” Troy said with a heated grin that made her cheeks burn.
“Not in the least.”
Holding the phone between them, he cast an expectant glance at her. Furia shook her head. “Probably better that he doesn’t know I’m here or doing this. Any of it,”” she confided. “Don’t think he would be too pleased across the board.”“He does seem to have an overdeveloped protective streak.” Troy stood and held his hand out to her.
Furia scooted forward, setting her hand in his before she stood. Her body grazed his as she shimmied out of the way to close the door. “Under the circumstances, it seems wholly justifiable, if not incredibly irritating.”
Convincing herself he was just too good at his role, she spun and sauntered back to Vu, who it turned out was the man holding the money that night. Once she handed off her fee, Furia tried not to think too hard about the warm body she leaned up against or the way his hand splayed over the front of her hip with his thumb tucked comfortably in the waist of her skirt. She even managed to mostly push him and everything he stirred up to the back of her mind while they socialized with Vu and some of his people, at least until he set his chin on her shoulder. The tickle against her bare skin invariably brought Ana’s question rushing back to her mind with the ferociousness of a big cat on the hunt.
Furia could feel her body tense whenever their exhibition seemed to overwhelm her. Sometimes Troy would lean away, offering her a moment to breathe; other times she would feel his arm tighten around her and his warm hand would press her more solidly against him, making her a little breathless. It was equal parts comforting and frustrating. It was like walking on a knife’s edge for a half an hour.

✹ Tips to work out ✹
Hi guys ! Camille here, ready to take you into an important part of my life — sport. I know, I know, a lot of us don’t like it. But, trust me, if you find your own way to workout, you will start to like the feeling of relief and freedom it gives you. Let me share with you some tips I wished I knew when I started to wok out.
My way to train is pretty connected with my mood, and I don’t have an exclusive sport - I’m more “touche à tout”. I remember, when I first began sport, how unsure and shy I was, way too much to go to the gym. That’s why I decided to train at home - I still do it now, because I felt in love with the freedom and the intimicy it gives me. Bellow the article, you will find some of my favourite YouTube channels to work out at home.
Enjoy & sweat well 💦
Dare to make the first step - you are able to do it. It will be hard, you will maybe not be able to finish the move, you will be slow at first. But you will do it. And that’s the most difficult part of all that you’re doing, so be proud.
Give you the time to learn. It doesn’t matter if, for an exercise of 30 seconds, you take 4 minutes to achieve it. No one began sport and kicked out the moves like a pro. Even those beautiful actresses/actors or instagram girls/guys you admire.
It is okay to give up. It doesn’t mean you’re a loser. Never think like that about yourself. Sometimes, it isn’t the best time to work out, you need to struggle with social, profesional, mental problems more important for you at this moment. Don’t listen to people who say you always can find the time to work out. If you need to rest in your couch after a long day, more than sweating, it is equally great.
Find your own place to train. We are not all made for working out at the gym, nor in groups. It also can be at home, in your kitchen, when you are sure no one will disturb you or look at you. You need to be in the best condition to do sport. The place where you train doesn’t mean nothing about your involvement or your progression.
Don’t train the same body area two days in succession. Your muscles need to rest. Each workout injures your body. If you force it, by working the legs a whole weekend for example, you hurt yourself. It is counterproductive, and you risk to really make damages that will ask for a long period of rest. And stop those “1 month plank/squat/... challenge”, it is dangerous.
Don’t work out too much. It is easy, if you find a sport you like and you start to fix your personal goals, to work out a lot, because you want to see quick results. But by acting like that, you risk to tire or hurt yourself. You need an equal moment of workout and rest. Relaxing is as much benfical and important for your mind and body than working out, never underestimate it.
Find your moment to train. Some of us are made to train in the morning, others in the afternoon, or in the evening. You have to find your best moment. If you have an obligation at that moment, find an alternative. For example, if your moment is the afternoon and you are at work, do your big workouts during the weekend, and make more slight and relaxing exercises in the evening or in the morning during the week, once or twice.
If you think to train, do it as soon as you can. To be sure the motivation will not go back because you waited for too long. If you’re at school or at work, a great way to keep your motivation intact is to move as soon as you can. Walk during the lunch moment, or do some discreet calf exercises under the table, for example. It will satisfy you, and the fact that you move, in a way or another, will have a positive psychological impact.
Stop focusing on the physical success. It’s the best way to stop. You will not have that perfect booty in four weeks, even if some instagram/tumblr/youtube stuffs promess it to you. It is impossible. Focus on the psychological benefits, the pride when you achieve a difficult move, the feeling of relief when you cool down. Workout for it, without waiting for something specific. And one day, you will see the results, without really waiting for it, and it will be even a better surprise this way.
Don’t diet. Eat properly, learn how to cook and shop correctly, but don’t enter in the diet business. It is the worst you can do to your body and spirit. And guess what ? It is the goal of those persons. They don’t work to make you truly feel better, but to be sure your money will come back to them as soon as possible.
Stop looking into the mirror every day. You will not see it, and it can lead to dangerous psychological states. Give you a moment to look at your body once every two weeks. You will clearly see the differences, that came with the time, and not by magic during the night.
Don’t weigh yourself. Take your measurements once per month, it is more exact. Put on weight when you start to train is normal - your muscles grow up, and are heavier than fat.
Don’t use body goals that are not your height and morphology. If you absolutely need to take an example, search a possible one. And remind yourself that all bodies are unique, so no, you will never totally look like your favourite instagram person. And that’s okay, it doesn’t mean you failed.
Make a list of what you like in your body. You will find it, courage. Update it each month, when you are in a positive state.
Find what kind of sport interests you. For some people, it is all about one sport only. Others need to change regularly to not be bored. Learn how you work.
Accept that all bodies can be healthy. You don’t have to be thin or have the thigh gap (impossible for many morphologies) to have a good and toned body. It means that you can achieve it too, sport isn’t reserved to a specific size, weight, morphology.
Define your body goal. What would you like to feel good ? Bulky, lean or toned ? Only you can say what is the best for you, since the only one who has to be seduced by your body, is yourself. Stop living in the clichés, a woman can be bulky and a man can be lean.
Think to stretch. It’s not always what people prefer, but it’s really important when we talk about sport. A good stretching will help you, with time, to go further in your moves, and train new areas you couldn’t reach before. Don’t use stretching as a warm up ! It’s not, since you push your body at its limits. Always finish your workout session with a stretching, and then with a cool down.
Warm up and cool down are no options. You need to tell to your body it has to wake up. If you don’t, you will have difficulties to make moves, and you can easily hurt yourself. To avoid stiffness, think to cool down after your workout. Sore muscles mean a body already hurted.
Create a health journal. It’s quite the same as a bullet journal, but totally focused on your health habits. It doesn’t only includes sport, but also food, mental health, stress tracker and positive body image. Writing your progressions, or your doubts, your desires, your goals, will help your mind to understand how you work, what are your personal traps, what doesn’t work for you, what makes you feel good.
Speak about it around you. Choose the people who will know, they have to be positive and watch over your new habits, to make sure you don’t do anything dangerous.
Be proud of your body. A thing I learned with sport, is that you know you take care of yourself. Once you start to feel it, mentally first, and then physically, you are less strict with your apparance. You’re curvy even with 6 hours of sport a week, and so what ? You will learn to love it, because you know you are in a good health, and that’s the most important.
Try exercises to improve your posture. It’s already good for your back, for your belly, and also to appear more confident in public. You also seem more lean and tall. Your body will thank you at the end of the day, when you will no longer feel that light pain in your back and your neck.
Always ask yourself if your way to workout and to eat is objectively good for you. You know that eating only apples in a day is not a way to lose fat. Hoping for it to work doesn’t mean it will help you to feel better.
Never punish yourself for your habits. You will only feel bad, and will train your negative vision of yourself. Start now to congratulate yourself when you make a new step. You finished your first workout ? Reward. You walked to your home instead of taking the bus ? Reward. You thought to train for the first time in months, even if you didn’t ? Reward.
List of youtube channels I like and follow (they are all free) :
Sissy Mua - langage : French. She is the first one I followed, and she made me discover the fitness. She is more based on musculation, which is why I don’t go on her channel anymore, but she proposes you complete sessions and had created some month programs.
Georgia Horackova - langage : French. Not really active for now. But she has done some challenging videos, and is a sweet and adorable woman.
Blogilates - langage : English. One of the most known youtube channel. She has made a beginner program, and you also can find a calendar each month. She is really motivating, is all about pastel and cute decors, is inventive.
Alivia d’Andrea - langage : english. An absolutely adorable and positive girl, with some really great videos to train and think to your health, physical and mental. Her stretching videos are really great to get into it.
Millionaire Hoy - langage : english. The total american instructor package, but it’s quite effective. If you want to do some cardio, but are afraid of burpees and other difficult exercices, he will help you to find the perfect way to train. He offers a lot of 30-40 minutes workout, adapted to each level.
The Fitness Marshall - langage : english. If you are more into dancing, even if you’re not a pro, you will love him. He’s totally cool, never stops and proposes cardio sessions.
Kkardio Dance - langage : english. Same concept, dancing to brun calories, but this time, made for the k-pop fans. Don’t worry about what you look, just follow them and sing like a queen.
Lazy dancer tips - langage : english. If you want to try ballet or if you are a classical dancer and want to also workout at home. She is my favourite of all. Adorable, motivating, challenging, she is really great.
Yoga with Adriene - langage : english. If you want to try yoga, or if you are already a fan of it, that channel is made for you. Her voice is peaceful, she made programs for beginners, and a plus, she also do a lot of videos to improve your mental health, which is really important and sadly rare.
Yoga with Tim - langage : english. Another yoga channel. It can be great for some of us to train with a man (since fitness, pilates or yoga aren’t only for young women).

My Top 10 Albums of 2018
If you know me well, you know I do this every year. It’s not in the hope that people will read it; more a sort of time capsule that I can look back on in the future and fondly remember the music that soundtracked my year. Some years, there’s a clear and obvious number one (Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly in 2015, for example). Others – such as this one – are more of a close-run thing, with the top spots changing sometimes as late as the writing process.
Before I get to my top ten, I would be remiss not to mention a few albums that missed out but have nonetheless been regulars in my rotation this year. Firstly, I should tip my cap to the experimentation shown by Beach House, Ben Howard, and Low, all of whom showed a refreshing intent to break from their norm and make some greatly interesting music. I’m also acutely aware of the lack of representation for R&B and hip-hop in my top ten – I didn’t ignore these genres, it just so happened that they weren’t among my ten favourites. Kids See Ghosts and Earl Sweatshirt in particular came close, and Janelle Monáe was another that I enjoyed greatly. Here’s my honourable mentions list in full:
Beach House – 7; Ben Howard – Noonday Dream; Low – Double Negative; Janelle Monáe – Dirty Computer; Brockhampton – Iridescence; Anderson .Paak – Oxnard; Villagers – The Art of Pretending to Swim; Jeff Tweedy – WARM; Matt Maltese – Bad Contestant; Kids See Ghosts – Kids See Ghosts; Pusha T – Daytona; Earl Sweatshirt – Some Rap Songs; Parquet Courts – Wide Awake; Kurt Vile – Bottle It In; The Beths – Future Me Hates Me; Jungle – For Ever; Courtney Barnett – Tell Me How You Really Feel; Mitski – Be The Cowboy; Hop Along – Bark Your Head Off Dog; Lucy Dacus – Historian.
Also, here’s a Spotify playlist of all my favourite tracks from the year.
Now on to the top ten…
10. Blood Orange – Negro Swan
I’ve got a soft spot for a true album – one that’s greater than the sum of its parts, and should be listened to as a whole. There are actually very few tracks on Negro Swan that hit home outside the context of the album. But there’s so much to like here: the way tracks flow into each other, punctuated by regular snippets of dialogue from the likes of transgender activist Janet Mock. The word that defines this album is ‘introspection’ – there are regular references to the desire to be loved and the fear of allowing oneself to be loved completely. At times the tracks feel frustratingly unfinished, and that’s all that keeps this at the back end of my top ten.
Highlights: ‘Saint’, ‘Charcoal Baby’, ‘Nappy Wonder’
9. Snail Mail – Lush
It’s been a hell of a year for young, female indie rockers (more on that later…), and Lindsey Jordan (A.K.A. Snail Mail) is perhaps the most prodigious of them all. The teenager’s debut, Lush, is a highly impressive record that showcases her signature sound: subtle, twinkly guitar melodies and foot-tapping drum beats. It tails off a little towards the back end of the album, as the novelty of her style begins to wear off. You wonder if this was a record she rushed into making, to capitalise on the considerable hype around her. If that’s the case, it’s a shame as a few more songs to the standard of ‘Pristine’ and ‘Heat Wave’ may have pushed this album up into my top five.
Highlights: ‘Pristine’, ‘Heat Wave’, ‘Stick’
8. The 1975 – A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships
This album is getting a lot of love, and I’ll admit that on first listen I didn’t get the hype. The 1975 are a somewhat controversial band – they face lavish praise and upturned noses in seemingly equal measure. There were moments of their absurdly-titled previous record that I liked, but their overly synthetic sound and Matty Healy’s unique vocal style are occasionally grating. ABIIOR has its flaws, but there’s also much to admire. They’ve incorporated a variety of styles, from stripped-back acoustic to arena pop and even jazz. The obvious themes of life and love in a digital age are well-explored and the production is, at times, gorgeous. Stick with it – it might just grow on you.
Highlights: ‘Love It If We Made It’, ‘Inside Your Mind’, ‘I Always Wanna Die (Sometimes)’
7. U.S. Girls – In A Poem Unlimited
In many ways, this record is a better executed version of the 1975’s. Meg Remy looks at similar themes of our problematic modern world, though in her case she explores them through a lens of feminine anger. Songs like ‘Rage of Plastics’ and ‘M.A.H.’ are direct, furious tirades towards American politics in the Obama era. The instrumentation and production is staggeringly brilliant throughout, with each track demonstrating a different string from Remy’s bow. On ‘Rosebud’, she channels her inner Madonna to produce one of the finest, most listenable indie pop tunes of the year.
Highlights: ‘M.A.H.’, ‘Rosebud’, ‘L-Over’
6. Maribou State – Kingdoms In Colour
My favourite electronic album of the year, Kingdoms In Colour improves on Maribou State’s encouraging debut, 2015’s Portraits. The improvements lie in their balance between the dance-pop hits, where they utilise long-time collaborator Holly Walker on vocals, and the more experimental, sample-based pieces that make up the rest of the album. It’s the latter that leave the most lasting impression, no better than on ‘Vale’, with the sample of Melanie de Baliso’s ‘I Feel You’ dovetailing beautifully with the group’s accompanying melody. If you’re looking for an album to put on as a backing track at your next party, look no further.
Highlights: ‘Beginner’s Luck’, ‘Nervous Tics’, ‘Vale’
5. Big Red Machine – Big Red Machine
A collaboration between Bon Iver and the National was never going to be bad, was it? Big Red Machine doesn’t quite hit the heights you might expect from such a high-profile meeting of minds, but there are enough moments of genius here to make it an album worth revisiting repeatedly. For the most part, Justin Vernon leaves his trademark complex song structures at the door in favour of simpler, more lineal compositions. This leads to some tracks feeling repetitive at times, although even these feature a central hook strong enough to keep you interested. And on 'Lyla', with its polyrhythms and meandering structure, there are hints of the exciting fruits this partnership could eventually produce.
Highlights: ‘Lyla’, ‘Hymnostic’, ‘I Won’t Run From It’
4. Arctic Monkeys – Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino
Perhaps Arctic Monkeys’ most divisive album since Humbug, TBHAC is also their bravest and most ambitious. It’s essentially a concept album – tales of a futuristic hotel on the moon brought to life by Alex Turner’s controversial switch from guitar to piano. It’s no surprise that the album has alienated some of the band’s more fundamentalist fans, as there’s a blatant lack of Turner’s usual indie dancefloor hits as well as a side-lining of outstanding drummer Matt Helders. Instead, we’re treated to songs without clear structures and, aside from ‘Four Out Of Five’, catchy choruses. Turner occasionally strays too far towards self-indulgence (‘Batphone’ is a difficult listen), but he’s still a remarkable lyricist and he’s produced an album that cements their status as the band of their era.
Highlights: ‘Star Treatment’, ‘American Sports’, ‘Four Out Of Five’
3. boygenius – boygenius EP
I may be cheating a tad here by including an EP, but given that there’s as much to enjoy here as on many fine albums released this year, you’ll excuse me. boygenius are a supergroup of sorts, featuring female up-and-comers Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus. Individually, all three are well worth a listen. But their collaborative EP propels them to new heights. Each has their own songwriting moments (two each from the six-track EP), and these intertwine through stunning vocal harmonies to form a completely cohesive collection of songs. The finest moments are Bridgers’, with her soft vocal timbre particularly captivating on ‘Me And My Dog’. We can only hope the success of this experiment results in a full-length album in 2019.
Highlights: ‘Me And My Dog’, ‘Souvenir’, ‘Ketchum, ID’
2. Kacey Musgraves – Golden Hour
No album surprised me more in 2018 than this one. After a slew of out-of-this-world reviews, I decided I had to give Golden Hour at least one listen – if only to be able to confirm it as what almost all country pop albums are: ‘not for me’. The thing is, this record transcends genre, and even those who like neither country nor pop will appreciate its beauty and the quality of its songs. Everything on Golden Hour is well-executed: Musgraves sings beautifully; the instrumentation feels minimal yet rounded; the production is absolutely on-point; and the melodies are to die for. There are even psychedelic elements throughout – nods to Musgraves’ use of acid during the album’s production. Give this album a chance, leave your prejudices at the door, and you’ll be treated to a simply perfect collection of pop songs.
Highlights: ‘Slow Burn’, ‘Wonder Woman’, ‘High Horse’
1. Soccer Mommy – Clean
As I mentioned, this wasn’t a runaway number one. But the more I re-listened to my shortlist, the more it became clear that Clean was the strongest candidate for top spot. Snail Mail and boygenius have already taken spots in my top ten, demonstrating what a strong year it has been for female indie vocalists. But Soccer Mommy’s (Sophie Allison’s) album just feels like the finished product that both Snail Mail and boygenius are aiming to eventually produce.
Clean doesn’t just contain great songs with deliciously spiky lyrics (the opening line of ‘Your Dog’ is a belter), it also feels so well balanced. Laid-back, melancholy tunes like ‘Still Clean’ and ‘Blossom’ are countered by catchy indie numbers like ‘Cool’ and ‘Skin’. Allison’s voice seems refined too – perfectly able to handle those two ends of the spectrum. Considering the album centres on a feeling of teenage angst, the sound feels remarkably mature. It’s a worthy album of the year.
Highlights: ‘Cool’, ‘Skin’, ‘Blossom (Wasting All My Time)’

platonic relationship
i have a bone to pick with plato. see the socratic method is basically the scene in montynpython in which a woman is weighed against a peice of wood to determine if she is a witch. and this is pretty much also the measurement system women use for me judge a cardio junkie by his ability to withstand smoke fumes. ive been up all night listening to eminem because i wish that i had the mysogny that he had because logically i should be mad at these females who lie to me but apparently developmentally theyre limited.
so pretty much i just want my neck not to hurt and my side and platonic love isn really the kind which could support my lumbar spine but if you think im angry you are right and maybe if i rhyme my brain will work this time and ill finally be able to explain was never targeted at my objects of affections at all i like to walk around the mall see a cutie with a skirt on and she sees me looking at her tells her grandmother to leave her there because this place looks fun as she smiles at me there comes abu my friend who judges me and judges you and as i stare at her i can tell she wants me too probably more emotionally mature than my mom and a virgin with her skirt on and its workun but i have the confidence of a plastic bag floating in the wind shes cheesing while i hide behind her even though shes 4 11 and im 6 4 and because he was there i didnt pass because i dont cross paths but even thinking about having a girlfriend makes him mad. if shes too young for me i would have figured that out but it doesnt help that no matter how young or how old even the weather lady im told shes not right for me so will you make up your mind please can someone define maturity because apparently there is a reverse correlation between it and age and socrates was no sage im not really impressed that he drank poison similarly i smoke weed which takes me back to age three and birthday parties then i think about how much my life failed but only because everyone always stood in front of me. so snitch on me when i talk to you when youre in front of me at your desk and say your story about butterflies is the best begging middle and end. meawhile i havent even gotten to the first page of my legend of the sword it had a much more compliated plot which was cut off. then tell me i didnt count to tenthousand while you were listening to the teacher say the is spelled t h e and put me in a remedial reading class with a bunch of girls and address us as the girls so we can read books about a mouse who lives with his family in a house but if girls and boys are the same how can you explain i was the only one in that group to be bumped up to the advanced on by 2nd grade. i guess reading the encylopedia of animals wasnt a wase memorized their latin names bufo sativa phylobates. so by third grade i was getting so good at math that they took me out of class and had me testing material meant for 5th graders and it was really lame how can i explain all the flaws in the system to all the other people who were also ruined by it.
finally one girl who was definitely old enough for me waved at me when i looked at her and i got a boner and walked over to the ladies at the tea shop who looked at me with a disgusted look on their faces then some gangster looking dude older than i am replaces me with his hand on her shoulder.
before i was 18 i could beat up my dad and ever since then i knew not many people in my generation had much of a chance against me but i looked so thin they were not understanding. high iq causing depression have anothe smoke session even though you have athsma everyone remember to complain that i prefer to get high off one big hit i stayed in high school till i graduated but i left.
unfortunately with brain damage i could still make straight as which made me think i was ok gpa jumping above 3.68 when i only show up an agerage of 3 days.
practice your sky hook do your pushups get embaressed when an asian princess sees you do them 20 hanlaps perfect form and im not even a jock wow id better stop. next thing the girl i like is sitting on my lap in class telling me she likes me back shes sitting on my desk shes rubbing my face my life isnt gay justnsaynsomehing and youll get laid.
nah ill let some kid with adhd steal her seat and ill help him with math instead because i didnt tell her this but im alread braindead. my soul probably died with my pet lizard or my kitten perhaps it was internet addiction.
what makes you think youll be make it as a porn star? you know im hot. well maybe i just didnt want you to act like a slut. i still remember the blonde who waves at me and smiled my freshman year it was clear that the world was my oyster the only problem was i couldn make my own choices.
i wanted to be an actor but i was so good at acting nobody got it. was so good at debating everyone liked to argue. was so succinct couldnt get the last word. so fast nobody would pass me the ball so dominant in wrestling i had to pretend i couldnt win just to have a friend.
pretty much i feel like the last cro magonon stuck on an island without charlotte saisselin bounce baby bounce three story house you look so cute in a blouse. hey look theres charlottes stalker i think il wave my arms around.
bounce baby is a reference to eigth grade i was watching a 100 meter race and then some black guy said that she never raced again. weed turned her from a goth into a wigger and after that i figured id become one too but it wasnt till 2009 i started to dress like you. what happened was i got some clothes from olympia sports to wear as warmups on the basketball court and to work as a salesman i shaved my head smiled knowing i was dead but still i couldnt even say i wanted to kiss  girl without that not being cool enough for my nephew and her bowl broke too
it fell from her car on the pavement and she said that he didnt even get to hit it.
so now im living in my dads room on the floor and finally my back isnt sore i have a well paying job im away from mom i have iron lungs and dad still doesnt approve because now i play too much basketball.
hi im interested in going to california. i meant connecticut but califonia will do since its warm there. sure steve come on out west but read the fine print your 20s are dead.
prove you wrong shame on me. dont prove you wrong brag proudly. stay out west and let your dad die. watch him act like an asshole at home back east one more time. your reward for having surived on the street for years as a middle clas kid
your friend says he thought you were dead. by the way he has this girlfriend in connectiut. oh you were the one who set him up with her? theres a whole website or three centered around her?
better get you to spend your money on heroin and make you seem like a jerk in front of my dad. my excuse is im skitzophrenic.
all because my dad shamed me for growing up even crazier than him. thats why i called up my friend and asked him to date my girlfriend.
there must have been something in those amphetamines which made me keep stopping at her house. i found them up on the shelf years after i tried to spill them out.
it was the first time an adult had ever called me immature. he also said my handwriting was bad and i needed a cure. talking to him i began to get red where even to begin? i have a lot of prblems at home and this isnt fair. see my dad camps in the yard and gets drunk watches us through windows andmy sister punches me in the head. mom pretty much works till shes in bed.
every day she watches the same soap opera and oprah which i record for her on tape. my sisters friends call me gay so i go over and play with the kids from the other neighorhood all day.
one of them listens to a lot of eminem. his favorite song is if you dont like it you can suck my dick. hes in reform school and proud to be off his meds. when i talk about biking down a steep hill and blending into traffic he thinks i meannliterall blend in.
two gay twin brothers end of the road honor roll kids. play baseball and have alcoholic parents. hey ill tell the girl steve likes he likes her then she will never talk to him again. accept his chalenge to a fight and he will bang my head into a tree which is the same thing i did to another kid who tried to jump me but got sperated from his friends.
refuse to dance with the only girl in middle school who has hips. make fun of the girls intelligence who sits next to you in math and has giant tits. refuse to eat candy off the first girls tounge then your science teacher who pushed pills on you flips on the tv its 911
stare at a girl all day and say you dont like her. girls think youre gay if you have a boner. telll me a calculator doesnt mattrer for a test but i do worse without one. make a flag pencil it isnt cool enough for the other kids.
sit with the retarded kids timmy and jimmy. watch nick all night fresh prince and bill cosby.
your sister wont stop torturing you so hold her at knife point. buy knives at school try to resell them and for the first time ever the kids you sold them to ge caught witth knives.
stay in the program with three teachers who gave up on you. one leaves to become a dean suddenly your grades go up. kids are jealous because you dont do homework. girls smile at you knowing that your test scores are high despite that.
throw shotput as far as a high school kid without any exercise or practice. run around the track dozens of times in pants you still arent good enough yet.
go to an alternative program reluctantly in high school its sort of like jail. everyone smells like cigarettes the air is stale. this isnt good for you but we will make you think if you leave you will fail.

What Can Limit Performance in Marathon Runners
One struggle that marathon runners go through is whether they will complete the marathon with a good run time. While there are many who undergo an excellent preparation to reach the finish line, we know there are certain issues that we face once we complete certain kilometers. To achieve the best run, these certain limitations needs to be worked on so that none of them derail all your efforts.
Some of the most common limitations are as follows:
1. Dehydration
Just like water is the most important factor for being healthy or for weight loss, similarly it is also very important for marathon runners. Hydration and electrolyte imbalance are two terms which most of the marathon runners are familiar with. Dehydration in athletes leads to tiredness, fatigue, headache, inability to think, muscle cramping etc. Hydration has much more to it than drinking just water. Drinking litres of water before the long run will not help as this will only increase bathroom visit or lead to hyponatremia (loss of salts from the body). Therefore, it’s always advisable to drink when you’re thirsty. Ideally hydrating yourself well throughout the week. As research has stated that even 1-2% of dehydration can impair overall performance. The best measure of hydration would be your urine color. Pale yellow suggests that you are well hydrated. Carry a bottle with you during the run and depending on the need and thirst, make sure you sip onto small quantities, this will keep your performance boosted and will also not cause any heavy feeling around the stomach.
2. Muscle cramps
About 90% of runners have experienced muscle cramps at least once. Muscle cramps are defined as involuntary, intensely painful muscle contractions that most people have experienced at some point. While the exact reason of cramping is not known yet, seasoned exercisers are more prone to experiencing cramps than the newer runners. In addition, few researches state that hyponatremia- loss of salts from the body can also lead to cramping. This is particularly useful for runners who are prone to cramps to ensure sodium is consumed along with the fluids. It has been observed that intake of high sodium can delay muscle cramps. Furthermore, glycogen stores depletion too has been associated with cramping. It has been noticed that, during a marathon, if there is no adequate fuel and yet we continue to run and contract our muscles, the cramps will occur. Therefore, its of utmost importance to focus on good carbohydrate intake that will help you push through the 60-90 mins run.
Other few steps to prevent muscle cramping are as follows:
• Appropriate warm up and exercise
• Acclimate yourself to the environment, heat, and exercise intensity
• Inclusion of adequate amount of electrolytes and fluids to avoid dehydration
• Good amount of rest
• Consumption of adequate amount of carbohydrates that will last longer than 60 to 90 minutes.
3. Hypoglycemia
Just like muscle cramps, going into hypoglycemic mode can kill all your dreams of reaching the finish line with a good time, even though you are not a diabetic. The first thing you need to do to avoid hypoglycemia is to ensure that you have enough of glycogen stored in the muscles and liver so that it can be used during the run. Hypoglycemia results in rapid heartbeat, anxiousness, intense shivering, seizures, loss of vision, unconsciousness etc. It is always advisable to include a carbohydrate meal before the run and to avoid over exercising and always carry some carbohydrate food such as banana during the run. In addition, its essential to consume a meal shortly after the run to replenish the used glycogen stores.
