from a vibes perspective, i totally understand why so many people look at keefe and go ‘this guy would be the male equivalent of a wine aunt when he’s older’. 

but. but. 

taking lore into consideration, in my heart, he’s terrified of alcohol (even if he tries really hard to hide it). because. like. his first exposure is almost guaranteed to be through cassius, and cassius canonically threw a glass extremely close to him at least once when he was, like, 8. maybe cassius wasn’t always extra nasty when he was drunk, but there’s gotta be a correlation in keefe’s brain between risking getting seriously hurt (emotionally or physically) and alcohol consumption that’s really hard for him to shake.

awe jiang cheng laughing fondly when lan xichen says wei wuxian has the same personality as his mother :( for all jiang chengs flaws in how he treats wei wuxian, he does never Once hold his parentage against him even when it would be such an easy evolution from some of the things he blames wei wuxian for, and the environment he grew up in, and when they're teenagers he's always shown to be very sensitive towards any information about wei wuxian's parents/people treating him poorly because of who is parents are. it's just special to me :(

An underrated benefit of love triangles is that they allow you to have a love story where the ending isn't immediately obvious. In your standard romance, the two leads meet, and then it's just a matter of time until they hit the plot beats that lead to the happily ever after. But the love triangle gives you two plotlines! Two different dynamics! Two valid directions for the plot to veer that will still lead to a romantic happy ending without that ending being a foregone conclusion.

The main character can grow and change in multiple different ways because there are two men on equal standing with her, who can have an influence on her in different ways, giving her multiple different lenses to help her understand who she is and who she really wants to be. When it's done right, the story will be satisfying no matter what the endgame is, because the point is going along on the journey and seeing who the characters become. And the great thing is that you don't know who they'll become because there are two valid options, so the entire story can be surprising, which is so refreshing when so many love stories are so predictable.

the calm team captain/ intense superstar is a pretty common pro sport combo. neither is a better personality than the other, they need each other to balance out. also think thats one of the reasons Becky wanted Kate, can help to balance the locker room energy (especially since Becky is an intense personality herself lol)

an example of players that have this dynamic—kind of— is Arsenal Kim Little (Captain) and Katie McCabe. Katie can be pretty intense on the pitch and can be pretty confrontational with the refs; meanwhile Kim is calm and collected and is usually the one assigned to talk to the refs if necessary.

I think it’s really healthy to have a good mix of personalities in any team/group because— like anon mentioned— it helps balance everything out. ex. extroverts, introverts/loud,quiet/talkers,listeners etc.

Also love your point about why Kate might’ve been recruited. Kate seems like the more sit-back-and-observe type (compared to her aces teammates) so I’m sure she adds something different to the locker room dynamic
