I was in the middle of doing homework when I heard a light rap on my window. I didn’t have to look to know exactly who it was.
When I opened my window, Steve’s smiling face appeared.
“You’ll have to come through the front door at some point,” I teased.
“We’ll have to tell Nancy about us before that happens,” he pointed out.
“I...am working on it.”
I helped him in through the window and slid it shut. He made himself at home by throwing himself down on my bed as if it were his own. I started chuckling, which turned into full fledge giggling when he grabbed me and pulled me down on top of him. I shifted in his arms so I could look at him. He cupped my face and gave me a gentle kiss.
“I want to take you out,” he said.
“Take me out where?”
“The sky is completely clear tonight. I wanted to take you stargazing. If you’d be interested in that, I mean.”
It sounded like the most romantic thing anyone had ever planned for me. Like something directly out of a rom-com.
I smiled and nodded in response. Steve’s face lit up.
I pulled on a warm hoodie and helped Steve back out the window, promising to meet him at his car down the street.
Luckily for me, Nancy was out with Barb, mom was out with a couple of other Hawkins moms, and Mike was downstairs with his D&D friends. That left only one obstacle for me to get around, but it was a very easy obstacle: my dad.
He was in the living room, watching TV as usual when I came down over the stairs. He didn’t ask any questions as I headed towards the door. I called over my shoulder that I was going out, expecting some sort of questioning like mom usually did. But, unsurprisingly, all dad said was, “Be safe, honey.”
Good old, predictable dad.
As planned, Steve was waiting a little ways down the road. He kissed me again when I got into the car before starting towards wherever we were going.
Steve parked his car on a dirt road next to some woods. I looked over at him with confusion and a little nervousness.
“There’s a clearing through the trees that no one ever goes through. It’s the perfect place for peaceful stargazing,” he explained.
I nodded, but still felt some nervousness. Being alone in a field with Steve when I hadn’t told anyone where I was going felt like a bad idea. Steve had been very respectful of our six months deal up until now, but who was to stop him if he changed his mind in this moment?
I tried not to think too much about it as we got out of the car. Steve had a blanket under one arm and took my hand in the other. He laced his fingers through mine and my heart started racing for a different reason.
We walked the short distance through the woods to the clearing. It really was a perfect place to be alone. There were no visible walking trails in the woods, so no one would be walking through unless they knew the clearing was there. Steve set the blanket out and we both laid down on our backs. He took my hand again, running his thumbs over my knuckles.
We didn’t speak, but we didn’t have to. There was a comfortable silence between us. I didn’t feel like I had to talk in order to fill any space. I was comfortable just laying here with him, holding his hand and watching the stars.
I was also very aware of how close he was to me. I could feel the heat radiating off of his arm onto my own. I could feel a desire to get closer to him. I wanted to lay in his arms. I wanted to put my head on his chest and listen to his heart beating. I wanted to feel his body heat engulfing me. I just wanted to be close to him.
I gasped as something lit up the sky. “Was that a shooting star?”
“Yeah, it was,” he said. “Have you never seen one before?”
“I’ve never been stargazing before. I haven’t had anyone to take me before.”
“You don’t necessarily need someone to take you. I go stargazing by the pool all the time.”
“Maybe I’d prefer a stargazing partner.”
When I looked over, Steve was already looking at me. He let go of my hand and slipped his arm under me. I exclaimed as he pulled me to his body. “I’d love to be your stargazing partner.”
“That sounds like a perfect partnership to me.”
Steve kept looking down at me as I cuddled into his side. I couldn’t look away from him. It was like he had hypnotized me with just one look.
He moved to face me a little as he brought his free hand to my face to cup my cheek. He pressed his lips against mine. It started as a gentle kiss at first, but when I moved to get as close to his body as I possibly could, his grip got a little tighter on me and his kissing started to become a bit more passionate. I put my hands against his chest with the intentions of pushing him away.
But then he pulled away on his own and looked at me with concern. “Am I going too far? We can stop.”
I was considering stopping before things went too far, but there was something about his genuine respect for my boundaries that just made me want to kiss him more. He made me feel safe, like I could trust him to stop if I asked him to stop. Steve was one of the few high school boys that I had dated who made me feel like he wanted to be with me, not just get in my pants.
I took him by surprise when I straddled his waist. I quickly leaned down and started kissing him passionately again. His hands found their way to my waist, holding me in place against him. His tongue darted out of his mouth, licking my bottom lip and asking for entrance. I granted him permission by parting my lips slightly. His tongue slid into my mouth, gliding against my own as it explored the new territory.
His hands grounded my hips down against his and an involuntary whimper escaped from my lips. Steve pulled away from the kiss to look at me with amusement. “Did you like that?”
I nodded, feeling unable to speak.
He chuckled and repeated the motion, causing me to whimper again. I could feel the outline of his hard on through the multiple layers that separated us. With every movement of my hips against his, the fabric of my jeans would press further against my clit causing a jolt of pleasure to run through my body. A pool was starting to form in my underwear and I was starting to become desperate to take care of it, even if I was the one who had come up with the six months rule.
Steve continued to grind my hips against his. His lips had now moved to my neck, leaving hot kisses along the cool skin that was there. He had started on the crook between my neck and my shoulder and was making his way up ever so slowly until he reached my ear.
“You’re doing so good,” he said in a soft voice. “Does it feel good?”
I nodded again.
“Good girl.”
I shivered as he topped off his praise with a nibble of my earlobe.
At some point, Steve reached one arm around my lower back and quickly flipped us so that I was underneath him. He pressed his crotch firmly against mine and I started to tremble from the simple touch. I was on the edge of begging for more when he slowly started thrusting his hips against me again.
He propped himself up on his elbows and gazed down at me. I held the look for a while before my eyes involuntarily closed from the pleasure that was taking over me. I felt his hand gently stroke my cheek and I leaned into his touch.
“Open your eyes,” he said. “I wanna see the look on your face when you cum.”
He was so certain of it; that he was going to get me off like this. Just from the feeling of his hard dick rubbing between us. I would’ve written him off as cocky if I didn’t know him any better, but at this point I was also very certain that he was going to get me off this way.
I managed to open my eyes again. Steve was looking down at me and I expected to see a different side of him. One fueled solely by lust and some teenaged boy hormonal desire to take me right then and there. But instead, he was still looking at me with admiration. Of course, there was still a hint of lust there, but it was almost like he was watching me like I was his favorite childhood movie.
The feeling came on quickly. I grabbed Steve’s shirt and balled it up in my fists, the only thing I could think to hold to ground me. I tried to keep my eyes open the whole time like he had asked, but the minute my orgasm hit my eyes shut tightly and I let out a loud cry of pleasure.
Steve leaned down to start kissing my neck. “There you go, baby. Let it go. Good girl.”
I was still trembling and was panting as I rode out my high. I opened my eyes again and looked back up at the beautiful starry sky. I almost chuckled realizing that this night started as an innocent stargazing date.
Steve started to sit up. I reached for his pants, still aware of the very obvious boner that was poking through them. He took hold of my wrists before I could get his pants undone.
“What?” I asked.
“We do have a rule,” he said. “Six months.”
“Yeah, but we can make exceptions.”
He shook his head. “No, I made a commitment to you when we started dating, and I’m not going back on it.”
“But...but...” I glanced down at his bulge again. “You didn’t...you know.”
He chuckled and kissed my head. “That’s fine. I can take care of this when I go home. I just wanted to enjoy getting to see you orgasm. I almost ruined my boxers watching it, but it would’ve been worth it if I did.”
My face was on fire and I ducked my head so he wouldn’t see it. But he placed his hand underneath my chin and tilted my head up so he could look at me. He kissed me, once again a sweet and kind kiss.
“I don’t want to break that promise,” he said again. “I like making you feel good, but I don’t want you to think I’m just trying to get into your pants or all I want is to have sex with you. I mean, I do want to have sex with you. Really, really bad. I’m a teenage boy and you’re an incredibly beautiful girl, you can’t blame me. But I also want to be with you, and I want you to know that before you give yourself to me like that.”
I looked at him for a long time in a shocked silence before saying, “You’re something else, Steve Harrington.”
“Something good or something bad?”
I wrapped my arms around his neck and kissed him. “Something very good.”
He smiled at me and started kissing me again, taking me in his arms and pulling the both of us down onto his blanket. I giggled into the kiss and, eventually, we managed to return to our stargazing position. But my mind could only think about Steve Harrington and how much he wanted to be with me.

Definitely Not Dating (H.HJ)
Warnings : none i can think of?
Word Count : 1622
Synopsis : all their friends tease them about dating due to how close they were, but they were just friends. or were they?
“Your boyfriend’s here.” My roommate and best friend, Felix, teased after answering the door. Hyunjin was close behind him, chuckling at the joke all our friends made about us.
           “Still not dating.” I countered as I stood up from the couch, grabbing my purse. “Where to today?” My words were now directed at Hyunjin who was standing in the doorway, his hands shoved in his pockets.
           “I figured we’d go see that play you’re always talking about. There’s a showing downtown tonight.” My eyes lit up when he said that. “I already bought the tickets.” He added with a chuckle.
           “Have I ever told you I love you, Hwang Hyunjin?” I asked with a smile, linking my arm with his as we made our way outside and to his car.
           “Only everyday.” He countered with a smirk.
           “Never mind, I hate you. Ugly.” I unlinked our arms as he opened the door for me, as he always would. As I got in and buckled my seatbelt, I could see Felix in the window, watching us with a teasing grin on his face. I knew exactly what he was thinking, so I flipped him off just as Hyunjin got into the driver’s seat. He looked forward just in time to see Felix return the gesture while sticking his tongue out.
           “You two have an odd friendship.” He chuckled as he did up his seatbelt. My phone automatically connected to his car as he usually let me play whatever I wanted to listen to. Our friends would always mention how cute that fact was. Maybe if you had better taste in music, he’d let you play your playlists. I’d always retort, hoping the growing feelings weren’t as obvious as our friends insisted they were.
           The next day, I sat at a table in the library with a couple of friends, working on the homework given out that day. My phone, that sat on the table, seemed to vibrate with a text message every few seconds. “Should probably see what they want. It’s probably your boyfriend.” Jeongin teased, nudging me with his shoulder. I rolled my eyes, once again saying that Hyunjin and I weren’t dating.
           “It’s probably Felix asking me to pick up something on my way home. Hyunjin said he was going to the dance studio today.” Hyunjin always threw himself into his dances, barely looking at his phone unless it was to pick a song or pause the music. There was absolutely no way he would be texting me right now. But when I picked it up, I was shocked to see it was him.
 We should get dinner tonight.
That restaurant you like has an opening tonight. I’ll make the reservations.
We could go stargazing after.
Why aren’t you answering me?
Oh right, you’re studying with Jeongin and Seungmin. Tell them I said hi!
Let me know when you’re done, I’ll pick you up : )
           I couldn’t help but smile at the messages, my stomach doing flips as I thought about how this would be a cute date, if it was a date. Dinner and stargazing. “So, what does Felix want?” The teasing tone coming from Seungmin’s lips told me he knew it wasn’t Felix.
           “Hyunjin says hi.” I answered, watching as their faces contorted into teasing grins.
           “And?” Jeongin prodded, nudging me with his shoulder again.
           “And that he’s making reservations at a restaurant before taking me stargazing.” I mumbled under my breath, hoping they wouldn’t hear me. They did.
           Hyunjin stayed true to his word and was outside the library doors when Jeongin, Seungmin, and I exited. His long blond hair tied up in that half pony he always did, his bangs falling across his face. I never was one for long, dyed hair before, preferring men with shorter, dark hair. But Hyunjin pulled off the long blond look so well it was hard not to be drawn to him. “Have fun on your date!” Jeongin teased as the two of them took off in the opposite direction of Hyunjin and I.
           “Do you think our friends will ever believe we’re just friends?” Hyunjin joked as he slid his hand in mine, lacing our fingers together. I giggled to myself, knowing that if I was an outsider looking in, I would think exactly the way they do. But this is how our friendship has been since high school. We’ve always been touchy with each other, cuddling and holding hands.
           “Once we’re married to other people.” I joked, trying not to let the hurt I felt at the very thought of him falling in love with someone else evident in my voice.
           We sat across from each other at my favourite restaurant, browsing the menu in silence. Soft chatter from the other patrons, and the soft classical music they played filling the comfortable silence between us. If I’m honest, I’ve only been here one other time. My previous birthday, Hyunjin brought me here. It was the first time we’d been somewhere so fancy, and we were quite underdressed, not knowing the dress code for the restaurant. We laughed about how badly we stuck out among the other patrons, but neither one of us cared. That memory alone made it my favourite place.
           Hyunjin held my hand from across the table as we ate, catching each other up on our day as if we hadn’t seen each other in ages, even though I saw him yesterday. We rarely went a day without seeing each other, almost as if we had a need to be by each other’s side whenever possible.
           We laid beside each other on the blanket Hyunjin brought, staring up at the night sky sparkling with stars. Soft music played from his phone that was laying in between us. He quietly sung along to the songs, and my heart swelled with joy. I absolutely loved listening to him sing, even though he hates singing in front of people. I’m sure I’m the only person that’s ever heard him, and honestly that should be a crime. His voice was my favourite in the entire world, but maybe I’m biased because I love him.
           “We’re friends, right?” I asked, silencing his singing, and bringing his attention from the stars to me. I turned my head to face him, our eyes meeting.
           “Of course.” He replied almost immediately.
           “But are we just friends?” The question hung in the air longer than the first one, but neither one of us moved, our eyes still locked. The weight of his hand in mind suddenly clearer than it’s ever been before.
           “What do you mean?” It was as if the words he meant to say were caught in his throat. I could hear it in the way his voice cracked when he answered.
           “Our friends always tease us about dating.” I pointed out.
           “That’s what friends do.” He smiled, his thumb now running over my knuckles. My skin burned from his touch, but I loved the feeling.
           “We’re always holding hands and cuddling.”
           “We’re touchy people.” He shrugged. I didn’t bring up the many times he told our other friends that he didn’t like skin ship. He wasn’t much of a hugger unless it was me. But I didn’t bring that up.
           “What about all the fancy dinners? The plays? Movies? Stargazing?” I gestured to what we were doing right now with my free hand, refusing to pull my hand away from his, loving the feeling of his hand in mine. I always have.
           “I like spoiling you.” Silence fell upon us again as I tried to think of what else to say. So many more things to point out, but I’m sure he had an explanation for it all. The drawers of my stuff at his place, and the drawer of his stuff at my place. The loving captions on pictures we posted of each other. The heart-shaped necklace he gave me one day, our initials engraved on the back of it. He’d have an explanation for it all, that I’m sure of. But there’s one thing he couldn’t explain away.
           “I’m in love with you.” The words rolled off my tongue before I could stop them, as if they were meant to be said in that moment. He could explain all the cute moments and thoughtful gifts, saying it’s just the way our friendship is. That’s just how close we were. But the love I have for him isn’t platonic.
           My confession hung in the air like a neon sign, and the confidence I once had began to fade. But before I could take it back, his lips were on mine. The same lips I’ve been dreaming about kissing for years, were now pressed against mine in the sweetest kiss I’ve ever experienced. It was a kiss filled with love and passion. A kiss that couldn’t be explained in a platonic way. “We aren’t just friends.” He whispered after pulling away. “I don’t think we ever were.”
           He kissed me again when dropping me off at home that night, whispering a quick I love you before I walked into the house I shared with Felix. “How was your date?” Felix teased when he saw I was home.
           “Perfect.” I smiled, watching as his eyes widened at the fact I didn’t bant with him.
           “You’re not denying that this was a date?” He questioned, fully emerging from the kitchen, where he was most likely baking brownies.
           “Why would I?” I kicked my shoes off and placed my purse on the coffee table before sitting on the couch, still on cloud nine.
           “Because you always do? You and Hyunjin are just friends.” I smiled and shook my head.
           “Hyunjin and I are definitely dating.”

Strawberries & Cigarettes - Rafe Cameron
Tumblr media
Author’s Note:
I thought of this while driving and I literally had to pull my car to the side so I can write it lol
Warning: mentions nicotine
Masterlist
Song: Strawberries & Cigarettes - Troye Sivan
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Blue eyes, black jeans
Lighters and candy, I've been a fool
But strawberries and cigarettes always taste like you
I got into a big argument with my parents so I stormed out of the house and walked to the park near our house. I sat on the swing and lighted up my cigarette. Thinking about the argument and the things I could’ve said.
A few moments later a guy is walking towards the park. I got scared so I held on my phone ready to call anyone. But I recognized the face, it was Rafe Cameron, the son of Ward Cameron and brother of Sarah Cameron. I am familiar with him cause we go to the same school, I barely see him there but when I do he’s always in the smoking area.
He approached me and looked at me and asked if he could light his cigarette so I grabbed my lighter and ignited the flame for him. He said thanks inhaling the first huff of smoke. He fiddled in to his pocket and opened the packet of candy, he ate one and offered the other one to me.
“Let me give you a life hack, cigarette tastes better with this” and he opened it and put one in my mouth.
I agree it tasted better. The strong and bitter taste of nicotine goes perfectly nice with his sweet strawberry candy. I looked at him and smiled. We kept silent until he asked why am I alone in the park, I said cause I got into an argument with my parents. Turns out he was there for the same reason.
We spent hours there finishing half of the pack of cigarettes and just spilling our hearts out to each other. I thought to myself, I’ll never see him again and I know he won’t talk to me or even look at my direction in school. We laughed and enjoyed each other’s company, he looked at me in the eyes and said
“Wanna go stargazing with me tomorrow?”
“Yes, sounds great”
“Okay i’ll pick you up at 9”
“Okay. By the way, thanks for the life hack” you winked and walked away.
(Fast forward to the night.)
“Mom and Dad, I’m done with my dishes i’ll go up now I need to sleep early cause I have a long test tomorrow” I said.
“Okay honey, good luck on your test tomorrow.” my mom replied.
I went upstairs and changed in to a comfortable but nice clothes. I fixed the pillows to look like I was sleeping in my bed. I waited and sat beside the window when I saw a faint light from the end of the street, I looked over my phone and saw Rafe’s text.
“I’m at the end of the street, the lights at your house are still open.”
I sighed as I climb down my window and jumped our fence and ran towards his truck. I hopped inside and his car smells like strawberries, maybe from the strawberry candy he’s been eating. He looks at me before starting to drive. Moments after he decided to go down and have a smoke so I joined him. We went out of the car and he ignited the lighter so I can light my cigarette. He gave me his candy and we smoked 2 sticks before going back to the car. But when he was looking for the key, his eyes got big when he saw the key inside the truck. He sighed and I opened the back of the truck, I laid down the cloth and climbed. I reached out my hand so he can come up and sit beside me. He climbed up and sat next to me, i put the blanket over us and leaned my back making him lean back too.
“You know this is still stargazing right?” I said as I fixed the blanket over me to make me cozy.
“I know, but I have this thing planned, and it didn’t work exactly the way I wanted it to.” he sighed.
I looked at the stars and tried to connect some of the constellations, and I was caught off guard I didn’t notice that Rafe was staring at me the whole time. I looked at him and he stared at my lips leaning closer. Inch by inch he’s getting closer and I can already feel his kiss tasting like strawberries in my lips. I looked at him one more time seeing his shiny blue eyes, the stars are glimmering from his eyes as I leaned in and break the distance between us. Moments later, I break away smiling and leaning my head against his shoulder. He kissed my forehead and held my hand and stayed like that until we fell asleep.
The next day, no texts on my phone but I can still smell him in my clothes. Still hoping that things would change, but of course we’re back on his games where we pretend that we don’t know each other.
But the thing is, stargazing has been our tradition. I would climb out of my roof and jump our fences and it would always end with us making out, holding each other and getting cozy while looking up at the stars, telling stories and secrets that only we know. I’m already used to the taste of his lips and my hands miss the warmth his hands would be while we look at the stars all night.
I know that once the sun comes up and we come back to go to school, it’s like we don’t even know each other. We barely talk and he barely looks at me. The only thing that I can remember is when we saw each other in the hallway and our fingers brushed. It felt warm and fuzzy, it feels like our long nights, daydreams, sugar and smoke rings.
I look back at him already walking away with his friends.
Strawberries and cigarettes always taste like you.
Late Night Answers
Ectoberhaunt Day 5: Witching hour vs Twilight
Fandom: Danny Phantom
Rating: G
Characters: Danny Fenton, Kitty, Johnny 13
Tags: Witching hour, ghost culture?
Danny keeps waking up in the middle of the night. The same exact time every night. He decides to take a flight around town and runs into a couple ghosts who're willing to give him some answers.
Read on AO3 here.
Danny’s eyes opened. It was night. Above him, the stars on his ceiling gave off a dim glow. He was still wrapped in his blanket. There was no cold ache in his throat that would indicate his ghost sense had woken him up.
He glanced at his alarm clock. The red numbers read 3:00. Danny grumbled and turned on his side, away from the clock, and tried to go back to sleep. This was the third night this had happened. For the last two nights he’d woken up at exactly three in the morning for no reason. He’d tossed and turned in bed until around four.
This night apparently wasn’t much different. He laid in bed for about ten minutes, but his brain just kept going back to worries about the next day. It wasn’t restful at all. Danny sat up and wiped the sleep from his eyes. If he was going to be awake for a while, he should at least do something useful.
In a flash of light Danny transformed. He flew through the wall into the chilly night air. He could feel the cold against his face, but it didn’t bother him like it would a normal human. There was no moon tonight - it had set before nightfall - but he could see perfectly well. Danny decided to head towards the city park. The night was fairly quiet. There were some cars on the roads, but not very many. Just a few night shift workers and late night travelers.
His ghost sense went off when he was halfway to the park. It felt familiar: kind of spiky but not painful or aggressive. Danny was slowly getting better at identifying ghosts based on how his ghost sense felt, but it was more of an art than a science. He had no idea who this could be. Who would be out at the park in the middle of the night and not causing havoc?
The sound reached him before he saw who it was. A motorcycle revved its engines, and someone shrieked in joy. It had to be Johnny, Shadow, and Kitty. Danny landed near the park fountain. They didn’t seem to be causing much trouble aside from being loud. He sat on the edge of the fountain and waited for them to come around again. It wasn’t long before Johnny’s ghostly bike flew in from the opposite area from where they’d left. As expected, Kitty was hugging Johnny as he did some spins that would have been dangerous if they’d still been alive. They rose up on the front wheel of the bike and spun three times before landing again. Then Johnny pulled into an empty parking spot in front of the fountain.
“Hey, kid,” Johnny called. “Surprised it took you so long to come out.”
Danny shrugged. “Didn’t seem like you were really causing trouble tonight.”
Behind Johnny, Kitty giggled. “You mean the last three nights?” she asked.
That got his attention. Danny floated up into a standing position, though his feet didn’t touch the ground. “What do you mean?” he asked. “What’ve you been doing?”
“Chill out, kid,” Johnny said. He got off his bike and offered his hand to Kitty. She grabbed it and jumped down from the bike. “We’ve just been riding around. Witching hour season, you know how it is."
Danny didn’t know exactly what Johnny meant, but he had a feeling it had to do with why he kept waking up. “I keep waking up at three,” he admitted, settling down to stand on the ground. “What’s that about?”
“How long’ve you been a ghost?” Kitty asked. “Or, whatever you are.”
Danny’s eyes flashed. “A little over a year.”
Kitty put a finger up to her chin. “And you didn’t notice last year? That’s a little weird, with how strong you are.”
“You guys kept me up almost every night for three months straight last year,” Danny grumbled. He was still a little bitter about that. It had ruined his grades. Now that he’d cemented his ownership of Amity Park, ghosts didn’t try to challenge him as much, but it had been a really awful for a while.
“Oh, right.” Kitty at least had the manners to look embarrassed. “Well, this time of night is when we’re more… present, I guess?” She looked at Johnny for confirmation, but he just shrugged. Kitty frowned and looked back at Danny. “The closer we get to Halloween, the more it affects us. I can be out of the Zone a little bit longer, Johnny and Shadow can ride faster, that sort of thing.”
On the one hand, Danny was glad to get some kind of answer for why he kept waking up. On the other… “So I’m gonna wake up in the middle of the night for no reason for a month?”
“Two months,” Johnny corrected. “Sorry, Phantom. It doesn’t just stop on November first.”
Danny sagged. He wiped a hand across his face in frustration. “Great. Thanks for telling me. I guess I could… get homework done,” he said weakly. It sounded like the worst possible thing to do in the middle of the night.
Johnny and Kitty stared at him and then burst out laughing. Danny glared until they quieted down enough to talk.
“Oh, Ancients, you’re such a goody-two-shoes,” Johnny snorted. “That’s awful. No, kid, this is ghost time. You can’t do lame shit like homework.”
“What do you want to do?” Kitty asked. “Really? Do you wanna do homework, or… I dunno, fight people? What do you even do when you’re having fun as a ghost?”
Danny frowned. “I don’t have fun as a ghost.” He gestured to his glowing, jumpsuit-clad form. “I’m only like this when I have to fight ghosts.”
The ghosts shared a glance before looking back at Danny. “That’s really sad, kid,” Kitty said. She brushed a lock of hair back behind her ear. “Do you even know what you’re like as a ghost?”
He blinked at her. “I mean… I’m me? I’m more, uh. Protective of stuff.” He blushed green and looked away. He didn’t really like thinking about all the weird ghost instincts that had popped up over the last year. It made him worry about being less human.
Johnny snorted. “No shit. You spent the last year beating the crap out of anyone who laid a foot in your territory.” Kitty elbowed him in the gut.
“Come on, Johnny, he was just a mote. We weren’t too chill for a few years, either.”
“Ow! Babe, we weren’t… you know!” Johnny waved at Danny, indicating his whole self. Danny raised an eyebrow.
“You did kind of try to take over my sister’s body and then possessed one of my classmates,” he reminded her.
Kitty rolled her eyes. “Yeah, but that was before I knew you were just a kid. Like, really a kid. Most ghosts don’t get near as strong as you in their first year, you know. We both thought you were super old but just acted like you were a kid.”
“Even though my human form looks just like me?” Danny asked, crossing his arms.
“Yeah?” Kitty said with a shrug. “Look, the only other one like you we’d heard about was the old guy. He’s been the same age for like, fifteen years or whatever. Why would we think you were any different?”
A lot of questions crossed Danny’s mind. Did that mean Vlad stopped aging? He knew the fruitloop looked weirdly young, even though he had grey hair, but he figured that was botox or something. Did that mean Danny was going to stop aging in a couple years? He was pretty sure he had grown some in the last year, but what if-
No, he had immediate things to deal with. These two probably didn’t know any of the answers to those questions.
“Okay, so, let me get this straight,” Danny said, “Witching hour is for doing ghost stuff. And I’m supposed to figure out what I like to do as a ghost, so I can do it for a couple months.”
“I guess?” Johnny said with a frown. “Not like we had to figure that out.”
Danny picked up his feet so he was hovering a couple feet above the ground in a seated position, one leg dangling and the other hiked up so his knee was in front of his torso. “I guess I like flying? It’s pretty nice. I can go over a hundred miles an hour.”
“Yeah, we can tell,” Kitty said, a hint of a laugh in her voice. She picked up her legs too so she hovered in a cross-legged position in front of him. “That’s not really a you thing, though, is it? Most ghosts like flying.”
“I still prefer the bike,” Johnny said.
“Objection noted, sweet heart,” Kitty teased. “You like protecting the town, right? Maybe you should fly around to make sure it’s okay?”
It wasn’t a bad idea, but something about it felt sour. “I do that all evening anyway,” Danny grumbled. “It’s not like I hate it, I just… It’s not fun.”
Kitty hummed. Danny was very glad she didn’t poke at that. Fighting ghosts could be fun sometimes, but mostly it was something he felt driven to do. He didn’t enjoy it like he would playing a game, or watching a meteor shower, or…
His eyes lit up. “There’s two meteor showers this month,” he said, remembering it suddenly. “The Draconids are in just a couple of days, and then the Orionids near the end of the month.”
“That’s like shooting stars, right?” Kitty asked.
“Exactly. It's rocks from space burning up in the atmosphere,” Danny said, a smile spreading across his face. Why hadn’t he thought about this before? He could get up above the clouds, away from the light pollution. “I bet I could get the best view in town now.”
“Of course he’s a nerd,” Johnny grumbled. Kitty shushed him.
“That sounds like a great thing to enjoy,” Kitty said to Danny. “Wanna ride with us one day and get out of town? Away from the lights?”
Danny hesitated. “You’d be okay with that?” He glanced from her to Johnny. Kitty seemed friendly enough when they weren’t fighting, but Johnny was the one who drove the bike.
Johnny frowned for a moment. He looked back at his bike. Danny could practically see the gears turning in his head. Finally Johnny turned back to Danny and said, “If it gets us out of this dump, yeah, we’ll take you stargazing.”
Before he knew what he was doing, Danny was hugging Johnny. “Holy shit thank you I haven’t gone in years I won’t let you regret it.”
After a few moments had passed, Johnny gently put his hand on Danny’s shoulder. “H-hey, it’s no big deal, kid.”
Far in the distance, a church bell rang.
“Well, that’s our cue,” Kitty said. “Same time tomorrow?”
Danny straightened up, a little embarrassed that he’d just hugged Johnny of all people. “Yeah. See you then.”
When he made it back to his bed, he fell asleep instantly.
No Longer A Secret
It had been a month and a half of me and JJ secretly dating due to the ‘no Pogue on Pogue macking’ rule until ...
Pope, Kie, John B, JJ, and I were chilling on the beach. It was 9:42 pm as I found myself getting bitten by mosquitos, just enough for an excuse to go run off with JJ knowing he’d make up his own excuse. “I'm getting attacked by mosquitos imma go sit in the van for a bit” I said getting up and walking away.
But JJ waited a while later to make up a lie to go be with me so it wouldn’t be suspicious
“Sorry, that took a while,” JJ said sliding the door of the van shut behind him “I know, you’re not the only one who knows how lying works'' I said with a sly grin. JJ leaned toward me for a kiss, I smiled and gently put one of my hands on the right side of his face as we kissed, he really liked my soft hand’s touch. But all of a sudden the door swiftly slid open and we heard gasps right after we ended our kiss. “uh” JJ said rubbing the back of his neck nervously “guys, the rule-'' Kiara said being strict about the rule like she does all the time “b-but us just being friends didn't work, we tried though” “we really did” JJ backed me up  “Smooth JJ” John B said sarcastically trying his hardest not to laugh but quickly failing.
“Okay whatever, can we go home? I have to study.” Pope complained “c’mon man, have some weed and relax” JJ smiled *John B starts driving the van*  “no, I still owe Kie money for her car,” Pope said “riiight” JJ agreed. “I’ll take that though,” I said grabbing the blunt from JJ’s mouth and putting it in my own “hey!” JJ complained, “hi,” I said taking a drag of the blunt “, no that’s- nevermind,” JJ said laughing a bit at the end. “Y’all might have broken the number one Pogue rule but you guys look good doing it” Kie finally admitted. “why thank you for your approval, my lady” JJ joked in a British accent “Yes dear it means very much” I mocked JJ “I’m so glad to hear that,” Kiara said going along with whatever we were doing “okay pack it up Paddingtons” Pope said jokingly. “Hey, JJ,” John B said “what dude,” JJ said “don't get her pregnant” John B said “oh shut up John B were not even there yet!” I said “yet-” Kiara said kind of disgusted “yeah it looked like you were there ‘yet’ when we caught you two in the van” Pope reasoned “oh shut up” I sarcastically rolled my eyes at him.
JJ and I headed to what he had claimed as his bedroom at John B’s house. “Emmaaa” Kiara said “yes Kiaraaa” “come watch a movie with me” she cheerfully said “sorry I’m watching one with JJ, call Sarah” “she's at one of her brothers business things” “sucks for her” “yup” “see ya later” ‘bon voyage”.
 JJ and I got into his room, cuddled, and watched Friends instead of a movie. “Hold on imma get beer,” The blonde said “get me one” “K”
The next day (10:58 am) came around the same as the others, waking up to the other pogues talking, or water splashing. Either way, none of us could ever get bored of waking up to a nice summer day. JJ and I groggily walked out of our his bedroom and onto the porch where Kiara, Pope, and John B had decided to start their day. “Hi guys” Pope greeted us as we walked out of the house “you guys wanna go stargazing “meh” John B groaned “c’mon it’ll be fun,” I said “yeah i'll do whatever” JJ agreed “look your best friend is going” I persuaded him “I’ll go,” Pope said “okay if you wanna be the only one not going that’s fine,” Kiara said “okay okay fine” John B gave in “why’d it take so long to convince you the stars are so pretty” I said also already knowing Kiara would definitely agree. “But can you guys see the whole world?” JJ asked, waiting for answers to continue the sentence “no?” Pope questioned “I can, she's right here” JJ pulled me closer to beside him and blushed “uhhh where’d JJ go... who's this soft guy?” John B joked with JJ totally ignoring him.
1:27 pm                                                                                                                “so are we all just gonna chill out here until it's dark enough to see the stars” Pope asked “yes sir” i said “okay, so for once were not doing illegal stuff, good” He replied happily but sort of sarcastically “who wants a sandwich” JJ asked “no JJ, you're not making sandwiches after that moldy one” Kiara said “that's probably a good idea” John B said “guys i'm not four, i know what mold is and that you're not supposed to eat it” JJ said “fine, i'll have peanut butter” i said “okay”
10:43 pm                                                                                                            *John B turns the van off and we all get out*  “don't forget the blankets” Sarah said (John B brought her after one of her brothers business meeting) Sarah and John B shared a blanket as a couple, Kie and Pope shared a blanket as friends, and then there was JJ and I laughing at his jokes on our blanket “oh hey look! There's the big dipper” i said to JJ pointing into the abyss of the starry night sky “what the hell is the big diaper” JJ said “no not diaper, dumbass, dipper!” i laughed “oh right, so it's a big spoon” JJ said                 “no- well, close enough” I laid my head on JJ’s chest listening to the faint noise of his heartbeat “oh look guys there's a meteor shower” Sarah exclaimed “ooh we’re lucky to have chosen this night” John B said “your lucky we persuaded you to come” Pope said, “yea” John B scoffed.
We all laid there in silence staring at the beauty of the stars and all the intricate designs they made. “I'm getting tired, anyone else?” Kiara asked. All the other Pogues besides me and JJ agreed “you guys coming?” Sarah questioned “no its ok, we’ll walk back were not that far” I said “and ill carry you if you fall asleep” JJ whispered, i smiled “okay bye guys” Sarah smiled and got into John B’s van.
“Ooh look there’s the Gemini stars” i exclaimed “do you see Leo?” JJ asked “uh i think its behind that cloud” I said “oh, then move the cloud i wanna see” JJ joked “yes just let my grow a pair of wings first” I bantered “or you could just get a really tall ladder” JJ suggested “yea that works too” i smiled. A minute later my eyes began to get heavy as JJ gently grazed his fingers through my hair and i fell asleep right there cuddling JJ”
I guess JJ would have to carry me home now.
Can’t Get Enough Part 3
I can’t get enough of posting this (ahahaha get it?). There’s a little violence in this chapter and a lot of time period standard sexism. Sorry, but it’s the 60′s my friend.
I was planning on posting this at a later date, but I had an absolute TERRIBLE day yesterday and in the midst of it I was able to smile because of all the love this series is getting. It’s not much but every single like means the world to me. So, without further ado, here’s the next chapter a little early as a thank you for making me smile on a horrible day.
Summary: The two most stubborn people in Knockemstiff, Ohio have eyes for only each other. Lee Bodecker is determined to become the town’s next sheriff. He knows that image is everything. Billie Dechswaan doesn’t care about her image at all. All she wants is to leave Knockemstiff and never come back. But Lee has other plans for her. Both are far too stubborn to give up their own plans. What happens when they can’t get enough of each other?
Word Count: 3.2k
Billie drifted through the rest of the day in a distracted fashion. She helped her mom in the kitchen for a bit, then she was allowed to read her book. Before dinner she decided to go clean up. She fixed her hair nice. She wouldn’t admit it, but she wanted to impress Lee. She fought with herself. She saw her whole future laid out before her. If she stayed in Knockemstiff and married Lee, she knew her life would be good. She knew that deputies made good money, and sheriffs made even better money. They could have a nice house. And all the babies she wanted. The other part of her still wanted adventure. Maybe Lee could be her adventure. She didn’t know anymore.
Billie’s parents always went to sleep at nine. Billie went up around the same time each night. Unfortunately, she shared a room with Sylvia and Clara. Sylvia was sixteen. So, both her and Billie covered for the other. And Clara stuttered so bad, she couldn’t tell her parents even if she had caught her older sister. Billie told Sylvia she was going out that night, Sylvia smiled. The worst thing about the farm house was that all the children’s bedrooms were upstairs and each floorboard creaked underfoot. Billie carefully avoided the loudest steps as she snuck out of the house at 9:45. Joseph and Thomas were still in the living room, luckily the living room was just outside her parents room. The boys were watching some program on the tv while playing cards. Not paying attention at all. Billie managed to slip out of the back door totally unseen. She ran across the yard and into the woods. Once she was into the woods, she slowed to a quick walk. She felt safe with the trees wrapped around her, hiding her from prying eyes.
She walked until she got to the road where Lee said he’d meet her. He was already there. He was leaned up against the cruiser, smoking a cigarette. She emerged and smiled at him. He was quick to put out the cigarette and open the driver’s side door for her. She slid in, but only just so he could get in. She was pressed up against him. The car roared to life, Lee drove just ten minutes. They drove away from town, he slowed when they drove just barely off the road, down a dirt path. He cut the engine and turned to Billie.
She pounced on him. Kissing him aggressively as she climbed into his lap, straddling him. The skirt of her dress rucked up in the process. She couldn’t find it in herself to care. Her tongue skated across the roof of Lee’s mouth. His hands were everywhere, her thighs, her breasts, her ass. He couldn’t touch enough of her. She ground down on Lee’s lap, he was hardening under her. She moaned into his mouth. He pulled away, panting against Billie’s lips.
“Lay back, baby,” Lee grunts. She followed his directions, laying herself across the front seat of his cruiser. He pushed her dress up and pulled her underwear down her legs. She’s exposed to him. He rubs his fingers up and down her slit, wetness leaking out of her. He sinks two fingers into her, pumping in and out of her vigorously. He curls his fingers inside of her. She can barely contain her cries. Her eyes are squeezed shut in ecstasy.
Lee decided that he wanted to try something new. He kneels on the floor of the car, continuing to fuck her with his fingers. She doesn’t even notice that he’s changed his position. He leans forward and removes his fingers from her. She whines at the loss. But Lee quickly laps at her folds. Billie’s eyes fly open and she sits up in shock.
“Just relax, baby. Let me make you feel good,” he groans. She lays back down, sounding breathless. Lee continues to lap at her, soon he pushes further in. He sucks her essence from the source like a man dying of thirst.
“Lee,” she whimpers breathlessly. He grabs her thighs, pulling her closer, humming against her. The vibrations making her even wetter. Lee separates himself from her folds, and licks up to her clit. He spells the alphabet with his tongue and places his fingers back inside her. He moves his fingers almost violently. Billie can’t contain herself much longer, her thighs begin to shake uncontrollably and she gasps for breath. She cums with a strangled cry. Lee lets her ride out the orgasm before removing his fingers from her. She’s panting as she watches him suck her juices from his fingers.
“You taste so good, baby,” he groans. Billie sits up and kisses Lee. She can taste herself on his tongue and she’s desperate for more. Billie undoes Lee’s belt as they kiss. His cock emerges hard as a rock. She delicately wraps her hand around it, and jerks him back and forth. She’s going slow, painfully slow.
“Your mouth,” he says. Billie nods and gets down on her knees. She licks up his length multiple times before taking him in her mouth. She bobs her head slowly, Lee looks down and makes eye contact with her. Lee has a unique taste. Despite the fact that she just came, she clenches her thighs as she tastes him. He thinks about fucking her face, but she’s so pretty like this, mouth stuffed with his cock.
“Faster,” he grunts. Billie obliges quickly. Her hands aid her mouth. One hand wraps around his cock, it closely follows her lips, gently twisting. Her other hand fondles his balls.
“Good girl,” he groans, head leaning back as he closes his eyes. One of his hands rests in her hair. She seems spurred on by his encouragement and she speeds up.
“That’s it baby. You’re doing such a good job,” he praises. He opens his eyes and looks down at her, “You gonna be this good when you take my cock in your little pussy?” Billie moans around him, a desperate look in her eye.
“Oh, I bet you are. Gonna let me fuck ya, nice and deep. I’ll ruin you. You’ll never want another man after me,” he snarls, his other hand goes to her hair to hold her in place. He thrusts his hips up and she gags around him. He fucks her mouth as if it were her pussy and cums with a roar. She swallows all of it down, not wasting a drop. Lee pulls out of her mouth and reaches for a handkerchief in his gloves box, he wipes the excess salvia off her chin and neck.
Billie rejoins him on seat. They both fix their clothes. Lee looks at his watch, it’s only 10:30, they have some time yet. So, he holds her, rubbing a hand up and down her back. Lee would give anything to hold her like this each night. He can tell that Billie is starting to drift and he drives her back to the wooded area near the farmhouse. He kisses her goodnight and sends her on her way.
Billie sneaks back into the farmhouse with no issue. She sneaks upstairs and changes into a night dress, before crawling into bed. Her parents none the wiser to what she’s been doing.
Billie and Lee continue on, meeting at least three nights a week. Sometimes they just kiss endlessly. Sometimes they really fool around. Other times they talk. One night Lee brings a blanket and they stargaze for hours. They learn all about each other. But Billie never lets Lee forget that their time together has an expiration date. She reminds him that she’s going to school and nothing can stop her. Lee visits her at the diner at least five days a week. He can chat with other locals when she has to take care of other tables. Billie is thankful for anytime that Lee eats at the diner. The boys her own age leave her alone when he’s there.
Unfortunately, tonight was not one of those nights. Billie was working the late shift. Some of the boys from her graduating class were hanging around. They were making sexual comments at her and staring. When they finally cleared out she was grateful. Patty told her to hit the road. She promised that she and Peter could lock up. Billie was glad to get off early, she could crawl into bed early that way. She walked out the back door like she did after every shift.
She doesn’t notice a car full of boys following her. She’s one block away from the diner when the boys park and gather around her. Billie panics. Among them is Ralph.
“Can I help you boys with something?” She spat.
“Heard you wouldn’t give it up for poor Ralph here. So, we figured we would help him out,” said one boy, Jay.
“I don’t give it up for anyone,” Billie said with a roll of her eyes. Just a moment later she was slapped across the face. She’s shocked and that gives the boys a chance to pounce on her. She’s fighting with all she can, but she’s no match for five boys. She kicks anything she can, claws the face in front of her. She doesn’t care. She’s not going down without a fight. She’s screaming as loud as she can. Another boy closes his fist and hits her hard in the stomach. It incapacitates her enough that they slam her on the hood of the car they were in. Each boy holding down an arm or a leg. She’s overwhelmed by the smell of moonshine on them. She doesn’t know how any of them are standing. Ralph smirks down at her, about to get what he always wanted. He tries to kiss her but she bites his tongue.
“You fucking bitch!” He shouts. He lifts her head and slams it back on the hood several times. Unwillingly, tears stream down her face. She’s sure this is it. She wishes she would have told Lee how much she cared for him. She really wished she would have called Thomas to pick her up. Then, just as she is giving up hope, she sees a flash of blue and red lights.
“What the hell is going on?” Shouts a familiar voice, Lee. Thank god. He and several other deputies rush to see what’s going on. The boys try and keep calm, they release their grips on her and she slides from the hood of the car to the road. Gravel digs into her exposed thigh but she can’t find the will to move.
“We’re just joking around,” one claimed.
“Billie,” Lee said, “What’s going on?” Billie can’t answer, she just sobs.
“Billie, you have to tell me,” Lee coaxes gently, crouching next to her.
“They—they grabbed me and they were— they were gonna—“ Billie can’t finish her sentence, she starts to sob even harder. Lee pulls her head to his chest.
“Arrest them,” he says to the other deputies. Another couple of police cruisers pull up. One by one the boys are cuffed and put into cruisers. They each are trying to talk their way out of it. But the deputies don’t listen.
“Billie, honey. You need to get up off the road. Can you do that for me?” Lee asked, reaching out a hand for her to grasp. She slowly comes to her feet and Lee really examines her. She’s covered in bruises. Her nose is bleeding, her lip is split. She has cuts all over her hands, suggesting she maybe landed a few punches.
“Did they— did they touch you— down there?” Lee asked gently. Billie shakes her head.
“Good, good,” Lee hums, he leans down and picks Billie up, and carries her to her car.
“I wanna go home,” she begged, between gasps for air. It broke Lee’s heart, but he couldn’t take her home.
“We have to get your statement at the station,” he said, quietly. Billie silently cried the entire way to the station. She had pressed herself up against the passenger side door, as far away from him as possible. Lee had no idea what to say. When they arrived at the station, he led her inside to his desk. Only then did Billie realize that her work uniform was completely torn. An inappropriate amount of leg was showing and the front of the uniform was torn so much that her bra was peaking out. She felt horribly exposed. Lee made her sit down gently, before turning away. And grabbing his jacket off the back of his desk chair. He helped Billie slide into it. At least that helped her cover a bit.
“Edna is calling your mama,” he told her, gesturing to the secretary, “But in the meantime, you have to walk me through what happened. We need it for the police report.”
Billie began gasping for air.
“Shhh, shh. It’s okay, just take a deep breath, hold it for two seconds and slowly blow it out.” Billie did as he said five times.
“Good,” he murmured, “Now just walk me through it and take as many breaks as you need.”
“I was walking home from the diner,” her voice was terribly hoarse, “Patty had let me go early because we weren’t busy. I didn’t even see them until it was too late. One of them said something about me giving it up for Ralph. And then they were on me. I—I tried to fight them off, I really did. But there were five of them and I’m just me. They hit me and slammed my head on the car. I-I-I really thought Ralph was going to rape me. They had me pinned to the hood of the car. I didn’t know what to do.” She was sobbing, fighting against her cries to speak.
Lee nodded as she finished. She didn’t even notice that he’d been quickly writing down all that she said.
“I’m going to get you some water and a damp cloth for your face,” Lee said before standing up and strutting away from the desk. Billie took her self in. Her knees were bloody and scrapped, gravel stuck into the injuries. She peaked inside the jacket and saw that at least one elbow was in a similar condition. The exposed parts of her chest were bruised. And she didn’t even want the opportunity to look at her face, because if it looked as bad as it felt it was pretty horrible. Lee came back damp cloth in hand. Glass of water in the other. He gently rubbed under her nose, cleaning the blood that had started to dry. She winced as he rubbed the cloth against the cut in her lip.
He leaned back, once he got her face cleaned up. “Gibson, get me the first aid kit, will ya!” He shouted at a younger deputy. Gibson scurried away in search of the first aid kit. Lee gently brushed the gravel from her knees and elbow when Gibson returned with the kit. Lee rubbed the antibiotic cream over her injuries before finding the largest bandages to cover the abrasions.
“Thank you,” Billie whispered.
“How are you feeling?” He asked, studying her face.
“I want to go to bed,” she responded.
“Don’t worry your mama will be here soon,” he placated.
“Are they even going to get in any trouble?”
“I don’t know,” he admitted, “They got you pretty good. But they’re all from good families.”
“You mean rich families. And my family is just a bunch of poor farmers,” she spat.
“If it were up to me, they would get thrown in jail,” Lee growled.
“But it’s not up to you,” Billie nodded.
“I’m so sorry, sugar,” he murmured.
“I know.”
“Billie!” Joy ran into the building in a desperate search for her daughter. Closely following Joy was John.
“Oh my baby!” Joy gasped.
“What happened?” John asked gruffly.
“It seems Billie got attacked by five of the local boys. Ralph Johnson, Jay Smith, Grant Parker, Gideon Cousins, and Jimmy Barrow were the boys we found with her when we pulled up. Four of them were holding her down. It sounds like they were planning on holding her down so Ralph could violate her,” Lee explained.
“Were you leading that Ralph boy on?” John questioned.
“No, I went on a date with him back right after graduation. But that’s it,” she answered.
“Well, you know how boys are honey,” Joy attempted to soothe.
“Even if I slept with Ralph a month ago, which I didn’t, it still wouldn’t be an excuse for this. All we did was kiss!” Billie yelled.
“Calm down,” John commanded.
“I didn’t do anything wrong!” She maintained. Lee decided to step in to de-escalate the situation.
“I’m inclined to agree with Billie. It probably has very little to do with her and more to do with the fact that those boys were drinking and she was in the wrong place at the wrong time,” Lee conceded, “I’ve already taken Billie’s statement and I think you should get her home. I’ll check in tomorrow.”
“Thank you Deputy Bodecker,” Joy beams.
“Just want to make sure that our Billie here is safe,” Lee answered. Billie slips out of Lee’s jacket.
“Thank you for letting me borrow that. I hope I didn’t bleed on it,” she said quietly.
“Don’t worry about it,” he told her. John and Joy lead Billie out of the station and to their own car. When they’re out of sight Lee marches to the sheriff’s office.
“You gonna charge those boys?” He asked the sheriff as soon as he entered the office.
Sheriff Collins sighed.
“I can charge them with possession of moonshine and third degree assault,” he grunts.
“Third degree? They weren’t just recklessly messing with her and she got hurt in the process, I would say there is considerable evidence for first degree aggravated here. They may have drunk, but they knew what they were doing,” Lee said in disbelief.
“Look Bodecker, those boys come from good families. The Dechswaan family is nice. But they’re trash. No money. No real standing,” Collins responded. Lee walked out of the office in disbelief and disgust, slamming the door on his way. He wanted to really go after those boys. He’d seen it before with men like his father, nothing was going to stop them from hurting another girl. But he was at the mercy of the sheriff, and if the sheriff wouldn’t press the appropriate charges there was nothing he could do.
Joy helped Billie from the car and to the bathtub. She took Billie’s ruined uniform away.
“I know Lee patched you up at the station, but I want you to really clean the wounds and I’ll get you some fresh bandages. Holler if you need anything,” Joy said from the door. Billie did as her mother said. She cleaned the abrasions. She scrubbed the dirt from her body until her skin was raw. She even washed her hair, it’d gotten dirty in the scuffle. Billie re-bandaged herself and dressed in the clean nightdress her mama had left her. After that Billie crawled into bed and passed out. But even her exhaustion couldn’t keep the nightmares away.
Whatever Tomorrow May Bring
I got a really nice message yesterday which inspired me to come out of the abyss and finish this after abandoning it for months. Enjoy!
Word Count: 1,300
“Coming!” Natsu growled as he hurried downstairs, hearing the sound of the doorbell ringing incessantly. Who was insane enough to be knocking on his door in the middle of the night, anyway? “Lucy?” The teen rubbed his eyes to ensure his sleep-deprived mind wasn’t deceiving him. Sure enough, the blonde stood at the other side of his door, looking down and nervously playing with her fingers.
“Can I stay with you tonight?” She asked, her voice barely above a whisper. It was only then that Natsu noticed the suitcase standing next to her. That did not look like an overnight bag. Though he decided not to question it, deeming comforting his girlfriend a much more important matter at the moment.
“Yeah, of course!” He exclaimed while stepping to the side to allow Lucy to enter. “What’s wrong, Luce?”
Natsu followed the blonde as she headed to the living room and sat down, knowing the layout of his house as if it were her own. “My dad.” She muttered as she quickly got rid of a tear that escaped from her eyes.
Natsu immediately tensed. He knew better than anyone else how complicated Lucy’s relationship with her father was. They barely even talked and, when they did, it was just to argue. It was like sharing a roof with a stranger. It infuriated Natsu to no end, seeing how much suffering Jude Heartfilia brought to her life. And the fact that he couldn’t do anything but watch it happen enraged him even further.
But the fact that she was standing in front of him with a suitcase next to her and a bag hanging on her shoulders made him think that this fight might not have been like any of the others.
“Do you want to talk about it?” He whispered as he took a seat next to her and rubbed her back comfortingly.
“I went into his study to look for tape and… I found an email talking about some sort of arrangement… He, he plans on marrying me off.” She sobbed.
“What?” Natsu stopped his movements abruptly and looked at Lucy with wide eyes. Jude was the wealthy CEO of some sort of company-- Natsu never understood what it was about. He knew that Lucy’s father had never approved of their relationship, but marrying her off to someone she didn’t even know? That was just inhumane, and it made him hate Jude even more than before, which he didn’t think was possible until now. “He can’t do that! What gives him the right?”
“The email said that our marriage would help promote the collaboration between both companies or some crap like that.”
“You’re not… planning on agreeing, right?”
“Of course not! That’s why I’m here, you idiot. I’m not letting that man dictate my future any longer.”
The couple sat quietly, worry and frustration filling the air around them, until Natsu suddenly jumped up and extended a hand to the blonde.
“That's it. Come on.”
“What?”
“We’re going on an adventure!” He said, showing his signature smile that could light up an entire room.
“Adventure? Natsu, it’s almost two in the morning.”
“So? I’m not letting us sit here and mope around. Come on.”
 Lucy shrieked as Natsu grabbed her from the waist and slinged her over his shoulder.
“Natsu! Put me down!” She yelled as quietly as possible as to not wake up her boyfriend’s father and older brother.
However, her protests fell on deaf ears as Natsu picked up his car keys and went outside, putting her down on the passenger’s seat.
“I hate you.” Lucy said as he got onto the driver’s seat, despite the huge grin on her face. “Can you even drive? With your motion sickness?”
“I took my pills a while ago.” He stated matter-of-factly.
“Where are we even going? Everything is probably closed.”
Natsu simply looked at her with an evil smirk.
*****
The stars illuminated the sky as the couple sat down on the blanket. After kidnapping Lucy, Natsu stopped by a twenty-four hour convenience store to pick up some snacks. Then, he drove them to their secret spot-- a deserted part of a hill that gave them a perfect view of the sky. The boy had laid the blanket he always kept in his car on the grass and prompted Lucy to sit down while he opened up the snacks.
“I know how much you like stargazing so…” He trailed off as he popped a strawberry in his mouth.
Lucy looked up at him with a soft smile on her face. Though he always appeared to be loud and rambunctious around others, he was never afraid to show his softer side to her, which is something she always treasured.
“Thank you for this.” She said, and she truly meant it.
Natsu simply gave her a wide grin as he continued eating.
The two stayed on the hill for a long while, eating and cuddling as Lucy taught Natsu about the constellations for the umpteenth time. He never quite understood it, but he loved hearing Lucy talk so passionately about something, so he simply sat and listened.
Before they knew it, the sun was already starting to rise.
“Oh my goodness…” Lucy sprung up and looked at her phone to see it was almost six in the morning. “Did we really stay awake all night?”
“I guess so.” He chuckled.
“We should probably head back.”
After cleaning up, they got in the car and started making their way back to Natsu’s house. There was a comfortable silence surrounding them as Natsu rubbed circles on Lucy’s thigh absentmindedly.
But he had never been one to enjoy too much silence..
The blonde jumped as Natsu suddenly turned on the radio to the highest volume.
“You’re insecure. Don’t know what for.” He sang and bopped his head with the music.
“Focus on the road!” Lucy laughed as she hit him playfully.
“Everyone else in the room can see it. Everyone else but you.” By this point he was yelling the lyrics at the top of his lungs, and Lucy couldn’t help but cackle at the ridiculous image in front of her. “Sing, Luce!”
“Baby you light up my world like nobody else! The way that you flip your hair gets me overwhelmed!” At this, Lucy shook her head to make her hair move as she sang along with her boyfriend.
They continued the road home like this, dancing and yelling along with the songs on the radio, ignoring the weird looks they got from the other cars that passed by.
By the time they had gotten to their destination, it was almost six thirty in the morning. They were both trying to stifle their giggles as they sneaked back to Natsu’s room while praying that his father was still asleep.
They laid down on his bed and quietly stared at each other, both with a silly smile on their faces caused by  the impromptu adventure they had embarked in just a few moments ago. Everything was so fun that Lucy had forgotten why she was there with Natsu in the first place. Her smile slowly faded as she remembered the issue at hand.
“My dad is probably going to notice I’m gone soon and come look for me.” She muttered as she softly caressed his cheek with her index finger.
“Well, I’m not letting him take you away from me. Ever.” He pulled his girlfriend closer and pressed a kiss on her forehead to emphasize his point. That was a promise. And he would do everything in his power to keep it.
“I love you.” Natsu whispered.
“I love you too. So much.”
Neither of them knew what tomorrow would bring but, at least for now, they had each other. And that’s all that mattered.
summertime mindset - pt. 6
stargazing & sexile
masterlist for summertime mindset
Timing is hard to get right and summer doesn’t last forever. You and Tyson learn the hard way.
word count: 1.9k
note from the writer: enjoy darlings this is really soft and lowkey a filler.
Tumblr media
SUMMERTIME
You loved your family, you really, truly, did. But you were also twenty and being trapped under the same roof as them when you were used to having the freedom of your dorm and friends’ apartments while at college made everything feel a bit too suffocating.
It was late at night, and you were lamenting this to Tyson while you were curled up in bed and he was at his own house. You were about ready to give up and try to go to sleep, but then Tyson sent you a text and told you to meet him out front.
You tugged on a sweatshirt and exchanged your sleep shorts for leggings, slipping into your shoes before sneaking down and out of the house. Tyson was already waiting for you at the end of the driveway in his car, and he waved you over with his trademark grin.
“Where are we going?” You asked, though not knowing wasn’t stopping you from opening the passenger door and sliding inside. Tyson met you halfway over the center console for a kiss before he let you buckle up and he shifted the car into gear.
“It’s a surprise.” You chuckled at him, shaking your head in mirth. Turning in your seat, you admired how he looked in the low light.
“You expect me to just get in a car with you without knowing where you’re taking me? At eleven at night?” You teased, and it was his turn to shake his head.
“We’re going for a drive, you said you had to get out of the house.” Tyson explained. Your heart soared at the gesture, and if you weren’t constricted by the seat belt and conscious of Tyson’s less than perfect driving skills you would have leaned over and given him a kiss. Instead, you pecked his shoulder before unplugging his phone from the aux and playing your music. It was a rule between the two of you, passenger picks music. Still, he playfully scoffed as he watched you.
“Oh please, you kidnap me, I get to choose the music.” You huffed with a smile. Tyson chuckled, reaching over to thread his fingers with yours and set your conjoined hands on your thigh. You tugged, bringing his hand to your lips so you could kiss the back of his before leaning back into your seat.
This was undoubtedly one of your favorite moments of the summer so far. The windows were cracked and though it was night, the air that was blowing into the car was nice and cooled your skin that had been warmed from being in the sun all day. Your music was quietly playing and perfectly suited for the atmosphere of a late-night drive with Tyson.
He was your favorite part of the whole scenario, no contest. He was singing under his breath as he drove through the streets, occasionally stealing glances at you with a softness in his eyes that had you melting even more so into your seat. You were so distracted by him that you didn’t even realize he had driven to an open field until the car was in park.
When you shot him a confused look, he simply shrugged his shoulders and squeezed your hand before climbing out of the car. You followed his actions, your confusion only growing when he opened the back of the car and pulled out a picnic blanket and what looked suspiciously like the comforter off of his bed. It was only once he laid the picnic blanket down and laid down that you realized that he was taking you stargazing.
As soon as you laid down beside him he started to pull the comforter over both of your legs, only pausing to focus on the sweet kiss you gave him. You both pulled away grinning like fools, and there was a fondness in his eyes that you had never seen before that had you leaning in for another peck.
“Surprise.” He teased, laying back and folding one hand behind his head and the other moving around you to pull you into his side. You chuckled, snuggling into his side as your gaze studied the stars above you.
The view in the sky was beautiful, but the man lying beside you, running his fingers up and down your arm absentmindedly, was stunning.
PRESENT
You should have expected it, really, when your roommate texted you and said not to come back to the apartment for a while since she was having some guy over. The text had come in the middle of you getting dinner with some coworkers, so you were doing the most to stall going back.
Which was how you found yourself sitting in your car in your building’s parking garage, Tyson’s contact pulled up and the number about to be dialed.
You had tried to get a hold of Jon, you had made up since he stormed out of your apartment, but he wasn’t answering, and you really just needed to see if someone was willing to hangout. When you finally dialed Tyson’s number, it didn’t take long for him to pick up.
“Hey, what’s up?” His voice was cheerful, and you could hear people in the background of his line, but they were growing fainter, so you assumed that he was going somewhere quieter.
“Nothing really, I was just calling you to see if you were busy.” From the noises on the other end of the line, you knew he was doing something, but that didn’t stop you from being hopeful. “I’m sexiled from my apartment for the foreseeable future.”
“I mean, I’m just having dinner at Gabe’s and I’m sure he wouldn’t mind if you came over.” You bit your lip at the offer, but as much as you wanted to take him up on it, it wasn’t his place to invite you over. You had met the captain and his wife a few times, and you really liked them, but you were in no way close enough to just show up at their house and crash a dinner party.
“I don’t want to intrude.” You replied, shaking your head despite the fact that he couldn’t see you. There was some shuffling on his end of the line, and you heard the people talking in the background get louder. Someone, JT, you think, asked who Tyson was on the phone with and he responded with your name.
“Landy come tell her she wouldn’t be intruding if she came over!” He yelled into the line, loud enough to have you pulling your phone from your ear. There was some more shuffling, and it sounded like a wrestling match for Tyson’s phone. Your suspicions were proven correct when the voice that spoke next decidedly did not belong to your brunette friend.
“I promise you’re invited.” Gabe told you, and you could just picture the shit eating grin he was most likely wearing as you heard Tyson complain about wanting his phone back. “You’re more welcome than Josty, if I’m being honest.” You chuckled at this, especially since you could hear Tyson let out an offended ‘Hey!’ from wherever he was on the other end of the line. You let out a defeated sigh, putting your key in the engine and twisting to turn your car on.
“What’s the address?”
Twenty minutes later you found yourself in an expensive neighborhood you would typically have no business being in. You were in awe of the large houses, probably as a result of the one too many HGTV shows you’ve watched. You texted Tyson that you had arrived and by the time you were walking up the driveway the front door opened, and he greeted you with a beaming smile and a wave.
You were swept into his arms the moment you were close enough, the familiar feeling enough to make you forget about your stressful day and how you really needed to look into finding a new apartment. Inside the house, you were met with the usual suspects: EJ, JT, Sam, Nate, Cale, Andre, and Mikko, plus any accompanying significant others. And, of course, the hosts, little baby Linnea catching your eye from the moment you entered the living room where everyone had gathered.
“Why are you dressed so fancy?” Sam teased as soon as you entered the room. You rolled your eyes, making your way to Mel, who was already asking if you wanted to hold her daughter.
“This isn’t fancy, they’re my work clothes.” You reasoned, gesturing towards your simple slacks and blouse. To be fair, it was more dressed up than the jeans and t-shirts he was used to seeing you in. “I had a late meeting, and then I grabbed dinner with some coworkers.”
“Tyson told us you got sexiled.” EJ grinned, and you hushed him, covering Linnea’s ears with your free hand as you kept her curled into you with the other. “What? She won’t remember this!”
“Yeah, but Cale will.” You chirped, sinking into the couch next to Tyson. His arm was resting on the back of the couch behind you but dropped around your shoulders as soon as you settled. The guys all laughed as you teased the rookie for his innocence, and Cale took the chirp in stride.
“I know that’s my baby, but you guys look like the cutest little family. You guys are so good together.” Mel commented and you felt your blood run cold. Part of you hoped she was talking about Andre and Mikko, who were sharing a loveseat on the opposite side of the room, but you knew your luck wasn’t that good.
“I, uh, have a boyfriend, actually. That’s not Tyson.” You coughed out after a moment of silence. Mel started sputtering out apologies, and the boys broke out in loud and obnoxious laughter. Beside you, Tyson chuckled, his heart clearly not in it but you elected to ignore it. That was a bit too much for you to unpack at the moment, especially in a room full of people.
“Gabe didn’t tell me.” Mel swatted her husband’s shoulder as she spoke, who in return raised his hands as proclaiming his innocence. You waved her off as best you could while still bouncing Linnea in your arms, but she shot you one last sorrowful look before thankfully Nate piped up with a story about something embarrassing that happened at practice that drew everyone’s attention off of you.
“Sorry if they made you uncomfortable.” Tyson whispered so only you could hear. You glanced at him out of the corner of your eye, spotting an unreadable look on his face. You smiled at him, a little too forced for reasons you couldn’t quite place, before turning back to the blue-eyed baby blinking up at you from your arms.
“Don’t worry about it. We always were told we made a cute couple, even back then.” You told him without really thinking. You tensed after you spoke, you never really talked about your past relationship and you weren’t sure what had coerced you into doing so just then. Tyson didn’t respond at first, and you risked a glance at him to see he was smiling faintly, that still unreadable look in his eyes that you couldn’t place. He leaned back into his seat, arm tightening over your shoulders just a tad bit more.
“Yeah, we got that a lot, didn’t we?”
The Covenant: Fall Bonfire
Tumblr media
Caleb Danvers x Reader
Word Count: 1,135
The sun had been out in full force that day, which made for a specular sunset. Beautiful hues of pink, orange, and purple melted together in the sky like something out of a vaporwave mural, the quickly fading light promising a perfect night sky view.
Fall was an interesting season for trees in New England; one day the leaves would be in full autumn bloom and by the next the entire tree would lose them, all the crunchy brown leaves laid on the ground.
Caleb had been busy for most of Saturday helping his mom rake their property. Normally, they would’ve paid someone else to do it, but he thought it might be a good opportunity to get his mom out of the house. Understanding that he would likely be tired after working all day, and that his mom would want to do dinner with him afterwards, you tried telling him that it was fine if you guys didn’t see each other that day.
Still, he insisted that he wanted to see you regardless if he was tired or had to wait until after dinner. You suggested a bonfire at your place and he agreed without hesitation. Since you had come up with the idea, he insisted on contributing everything else that was needed. You reminded him not to worry about wood as there was plenty of it to burn at your family’s home, but that didn’t stop him from promptly showing up at the doorstep at eight o’clock, arms full of fire wood.
“I’ll put this out back and come back for the rest of the stuff.”
You led him around the outside of the house to the backyard. He dropped the wood next the firepit and jogged to the car, returning with a bag that had matches, lighter fluid, and stuff for s’mores.
“I know they’re your favorite,” he said with a smile. He dug around and pulled out several packs of chocolate. “Hershey’s is classic, but I thought it could be fun to experiment with these.”
He showed you a bright orange pack that you instantly recognized as Reese’s cups. You couldn’t tone down your big, goofy smile no matter how you tried. Caleb wasn’t a super flashy guy by nature, but he was very intuitive and him remembering that s’mores were a favorite of yours reminded you how lucky you were to call him your boyfriend.
“It’s perfect, Caleb. Now all we need is some good tunes.”
“Damn,” he muttered. “I forgot about the music.”
He sighed in agitation and started talking under his breath, putting himself down. Caleb was so used to being seen as perfect, and he held himself to such high standards, that if he did something and failed to meet expectations, he considered it a failure. You were working with him to loosen up his perfectionism, but it was something he was still working on.
“Hey,” you said interrupting his frustrations with a kiss. “Everything’s fine, okay? I’ll grab my radio from inside and it’ll be fine.”
You ran into your room, grabbed the boombox, and were back outside with Caleb in a flash. You turned it on and flipped to your favorite station while he got the fire started. When he got it going, flames licking up the logs and the wood cracking, you worked together to spread the blankets on the ground. The pillows were added last in a fluffy heap.
Now that it was properly dark out, the orange flames were mesmerizing to watch as were the fingers of smoke that danced up in the air.
Caleb speared marshmallows on two roasting sticks, handing one to you and keeping one for himself. Caleb circled the fire searching for the perfect spot to roast his marshmallow. You simply stuck yours directly into the flames, holding it there until it lit up. Pulling it back, you circled your lips and blew it out with a single puff of breath.
Happy with your charred creation, you set it between two graham crackers and stuck in a piece of chocolate. Caleb looked at you in minor disapproval as he slowly turned his marshmallow. He crinkled his nose.
“I don’t know how you can eat yours black.”
“I’ll have you know, this is the best way to eat a s’more,” you protested with your mouth full.
He shook his head and checked his progress. He finally finished his golden masterpiece and followed your assembly process. He closed his eyes in ecstasy as he put it in his mouth.
“Now this is the way to eat a s’more,” he groaned. He finished the rest in one bite and stuck another marshmallow on the roaster. “I’ll make you one and you’ll see.”
“I really like mine charred. Honest,” you crossed your heart. “But I won’t say no to you making me one.”
You kneeled behind him as he sat, slowly turning the roasting stick, and plastered yourself against his back, wrapping your arms around his waist. He made another golden beauty and put the s’more together for you, this time with the Reese’s cup inserted inside instead of the Hershey’s.
Even though the new combination had sounded good when Caleb described it earlier, but you were still surprised by how yummy it was. In fact, this version may top the original.
“Try some, it’s super good.”
You held out your hand to him and he moaned as he chewed. Licking at your fingers, he smiled enticingly at you and you couldn’t resist him. You playfully jumped him, knocking both of you to the ground where you landed on the cozy pillows and blankets from earlier.
You planted a big kiss on his lips from your position hovering above him. His lips parted to allow you access to his mouth and he surged underneath you, his hands tightly gripping your thighs. The heated exploration delved into increasingly bold licking and petting.
Afterwards, you two were cuddled together, your head resting on his pecs, gazing at the stars overhead. Caleb absently stroked your arm with one hand while the other pointed out constellations.
“There’s the Big Dipper, and Orion’s Belt is over there next to Eridanus...”
Hearing you yawn, he stopped talking and went still. “Am I boring you?” he asked quietly.
You popped yourself up on your forearms and slapped his chest. “Of course not! I’m just really cozy right now.”
He relaxed as you laid back down to cuddle with him. Caleb resumed his stargazing, his voice further soothing you until your limbs tingled and turned to liquid.
In the background, an acoustic song played softly on your radio and the distinct smoky smell of burning wood drifted around you. It was a calm autumn night and you were in your loving boy’s arms.
It truly was a perfect night.
_______________
Here’s a short piece for Caleb. All the Sons would make good boyfriends, in their own ways, but Caleb is the closet to a fairytale boyfriend type. Hopefully this wasn’t too cheesy and thanks for reading!
astronomy in reverse
Pairing: Roy English/Calum Hood Rating: T for language Word Count: 2016 Read on AO3
Summary: Roy and Calum go stargazing
Calum has learned more about the night sky in the past year than he has in his entire life leading up to that point.  He attributes nearly all of his new knowledge to increased time with Roy.  When the world stopped turning, Calum was suddenly confined to the house rather than a tour bus, for better or for worse.  To an extent he’s glad: Roy and Duke are home, which is a pretty big silver lining.  While he’s missed making music with the band and hearing venues erupt with fans screaming their lyrics and even the constant feeling of miles and miles of road disappearing under his feet, long walks with Duke and long nights spent wrapped up in his boyfriend have more than made up for it.
His favorite nights involve gazing at the sky while Roy talks about astrology or astronomy or cosmology or philosophy or spirituality or anything he fancies.  One thing that Calum loves about Roy is that he’s always coming up with new, interesting ideas about the world.  The first night they spent alone together in Bali was an exploration in thought that he could never have anticipated but was enraptured by nonetheless.  He doesn’t remember the specifics of what they talked about, but he remembers that he fell in love a little, and even though both of them have different thoughts now, that initial spark has never gone away.
“It’s going to be a clear night,” Roy says while they’re eating leftovers for dinner on the couch, Calum keeping a careful eye on Duke so he doesn’t lunge for his plate.
“Yeah?” he asks.  Roy clicks his tongue at Duke and offers him a potato chip, allowing Calum to relax and take a bite of his own food.
“Mars should be visible,” Roy says.  Calum watches fondly as he scratches Duke behind the ears.  The sun hasn’t set yet, and the natural light highlights his face in a warm glow.  Roy is always sunny, even in the dead of winter or in the middle of a rainstorm, like he’s somehow able to trap rays within his skin so he can shine in every context.  Looking at him grinning down at Duke now, Calum feels lucky that the universe aligned to bring them all together.
“Do you want to go out for it?” he asks.  Their backyard is far enough from the heart of the city that they can see the North Star most nights, but Roy has found a place a reasonable drive away that lets them put together more constellations.
Roy smiles at him in response, giving Duke an opening to lunge for more chips.  Dinner dissolves into a battle to corral an unruly dog acting more like a puppy than an old man for once in his life, but Calum doesn’t mind as long as he can hear Roy’s loud laugh and keep seeing him shine.
-/-
They head out once they clean up the mess in the living room.  The sun is beginning to set, painting the sky in pastels and lengthening all of the shadows in corners of the city.  Their destination is a hill in the middle of a park, a frequently visited little haven, but Calum is happy to see that they’re the only people there tonight.  They park the car and Calum grabs a blanket kept in back.  It’s a nice evening: cool but not cold, skies clear with an occasional gentle breeze.  Crickets and the rare bird call tickle his ears as Roy grabs his hand as they walk, tilting his head up to look at the moon, a bright spot half-full even while the last of the sun’s rays illuminate the sky.  He doesn’t let go when they reach the peak of the hill, leaving Calum to try to spread the blanket on the grass one-handed.  It doesn’t work, and Roy laughs at him before taking pity and helping.
“It’ll be more helpful if you’d let go,” Calum says as they tug on different corners and try to lay the blanket down in sync.
“It’s important to challenge yourself.”
“Fuck off,” Calum laughs as Roy pulls him down onto the blanket next to him, holding their hands safely in his lap.  Calum turns his gaze to the sky, quickly landing on the moon again.  He lays down and settles in, pulling Roy down with him by their joined hands so he can talk to him easier while they wait for all of the stars to come out.
“Do you think aliens exist?” Roy asks after they’ve laid in quiet for a few minutes tracing the craters of the moon with their eyes.
“Yes,” Calum says automatically.  He glances at Roy, harder to see now that the sun has fully set, but the upward angle of his lips is still visible.
“Why?”
“The universe is fucking huge,” Calum says.  “There’s no way that there isn’t other life out there.  It might not be recognizable to us, but I don’t think our little world is that unique.  We just haven’t expanded our search enough.”
“If it’s not recognizable to us, is it still life, or is it something else?” Roy asks.  Calum hums.
“I guess it depends.  If we can’t recognize it as life then we probably wouldn’t consider it alive as a society, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t.”
Roy smiles wider, the way he does when Calum has a thought he particularly likes.
“Scientists talk about life-cycles of stars from birth to death despite not considering them living organisms like us, but I think that’s because subconsciously we know that we’re all the same.  We’re all connected.  Just because stars don’t breathe doesn’t mean they can’t be alive.”
“So the stars are aliens?” Calum asks, finding Polaris above them.
“Maybe none of us are aliens,” Roy says.  “‘Alien’ implies ‘other,’ and there is no other.  All of our differences are arbitrary, but at the core everything comes from the same place.  Scientists said we’re made of the same things as stars.  We’re part of the same universe and the same collective unconscious.  Why shouldn’t that extend to the other creations we share the universe with?”
Calum hums.  He gazes at the stars and tries to imagine them as alive.
“What about our phones and guitars and stuff?” he asks.  “There are non-living things in the world.  Where do you draw the line?”
Calum can feel Roy shrug next to him.
“Somewhere between stars and guitars,” he says.  “Maybe stars are part of a bigger life.  The Creator’s synapses.”
“And us?”
“His favorite creations.  You are, at least.  He definitely should be proud of what he did there.”
Calum glances at him.
“Are you trying to use God to flirt with me?”
Roy smiles, still bright in the dark.
“Just telling the truth.  Well, as much of the truth as we can be certain of.”
“It’s called the truth because we’re certain of it.  Everything else is called a mystery.”
Roy shakes his head.  “You can figure out mysteries without having a definite truth.  What I thought was a definite truth before could be something different now.”
Calum considers.
“And if I said that grass is green?”
“Fuck off,” Roy laughs.  “I’m talking about bigger things.  Truths of the universe in philosophy or religion.  Things where truth is dependent on belief rather than something provable.”
“Alright, alright,” Calum concedes.  “I get what you’re saying.”  Roy squeezes his hand.  Calum squeezes back, a silent transaction that makes him smile.
“Look,” Roy says after a moment, pointing with their joined hands up at the sky.  “Boötes.  Did you know that ancient cultures had different names for this constellation, but lots of stories for it call him a herdsman of some sort?  More evidence of the collective consciousness and human unity.”
Calum hums, because he has heard that before.  Boötes is Roy’s favorite constellation because he likes saying the name. Calum’s favorite is one that they made up when they were out in the desert celebrating Ashton’s album release. It’s hard to see this close to the city, and it’s probably only really visible in the fall anyway, but it making it was one of his favorite memories from the fall, both of them sitting in the same lounge chair and gazing up at a sky more luminous than this one, picking out different shapes and forming outrageous stories behind them.
They do a lot of storytelling in their house.  Songwriting is its own form of storytelling, of course, but they also do more traditional sorts, recounting things from their day or sitting together entertaining each other with their imaginations.  It’s an exercise in creativity, stretching different muscles that songwriting doesn’t always hit or that Calum doesn’t think to use in everyday life, and he feels like he’s better for it.  If nothing else, it’s saved him from boredom in quarantine and has kept him from traveling in circles in his head.
“Hey,” Roy says, “what do you think happens when we die?”
Calum could never be bored with Roy around.
They spend more time discussing various questions and secrets in hushed voices under the cover of the sky, staring at the specks of stars far above them.  Roy points out which speck should be Mars once he’s fairly certain he doesn’t have it wrong, raising their joined hands to the sky for Calum to follow, and Calum uses sightlines as an excuse to shift closer.
Roy knows that it’s bullshit, but Calum gets a kiss for his troubles.
They trade a few more words back and forth before fading into silence.  Calum stares at the sky and listens to Roy’s gentle breathing next to him and the crickets hidden somewhere in the grass.  He takes his own deep breath of the crisp night air, as fresh and clear as it gets near LA, and feels any lingering tension from the day leave his body.  Out here, cuddled up to the man he loves and watching glittering pieces of celestial gas that might have burnt out already, it’s hard to feel like any of the things that typically bother him matter.  There’s something to be said about contextualizing his problems against the entire universe, and there’s something to be said about doing that while trying to unwrap the universe with Roy.
When they delve into these sorts of talks, Calum always walks away with a worse understanding of the universe and a much better understanding of Roy.
Maybe that’s the point.  Maybe humans aren’t meant to reveal the secrets of the universe, but rather to reveal their own secrets to each other.  Calum knows the way that Roy thinks now.  He knows why he loves the stories he does and how he views himself in relation to the rest of humanity.  He understands Roy’s compassion and his love for the world they’re in.  He knows who Roy is, and he knows a little more every time Roy asks him about things that Calum can only guess at.
He’s never felt like he knows anyone quite like he knows Roy.  It’s more than the fact that they’re roommates and Calum knows what brand of toothpaste he uses and how he takes his coffee.  It’s like Roy is a distant star, and Calum keeps twisting his telescope further into focus, and he knows that it goes the same way.  Roy knows how he likes his eggs and which bass is his favorite, but he also knows the inner workings of Calum’s thoughts.  He knows the way their hands fit perfectly together and when they have to let go to avoid them getting uncomfortably sweaty.
He glances at him, profile barely discernible in the dark.
“Hey,” he says quietly.  Roy’s head tips towards him, breaking his staring contest with the sky.  “I love you.  I’m glad the universe let me know you.”
Roy doesn’t say anything, just brings Calum’s hand to his lips and kisses it, and they go back to watching the sky together, existing in a tiny pocket of space carved just for them and the stars.
Birthday Wishes-Connor Murphy X Reader
Word Count: 1,962
A/N: Hey everyone! It was my birthday a while ago so thats where i got this inspiration for this lol. I just want to say I am in no way trying to take attention away from the Black Lives Matter movement I just thought this would be a nice way for people to take a break and unwind with everything going on in the world right now, but there’s a post on my blog with a link that has information on how you can help so please visit it! Thanks you for reading and I hope you have a wonderful day! :)
You and Connor Murphy had celebrated many birthdays together since your parents were best friends in high school and you and Connor were also best friends. You had been at each other's birthday parties since you were born. You had always given one another thoughtful gifts and wonderful cards with handwritten messages full of love. You would never tell Connor but, you kept all the cards he gave you in a box in the back of your closet.
But this year was different as it was your first birthday when you and Connor were dating. He hadn’t said anything about it so you just assumed that it was going to be a low-key night as usual where the two of you just hung out and watched movies at someones house or something like that, what you didn’t know was that Connor was planning a romantic night for the two of you. Before you even started dating you always talked about wanting to go stargazing with your significant other when they finally came along, so he figured why not do it for your birthday. A couple of days before your birthday when you were busy staying after for some kind of club he went to the store and got fairy lights to hang on the back of his beat up truck and a bunch of your favorite snacks. That night he also made a playlist full of all your favorite songs and found the extra mattress his parents kept in the attic to put in the bed of his truck. As the day got closer and closer he took almost every single blanket and pillow from the Murphy household to make the perfect stargazing fort.
Then the day finally arrived, you were on the phone when the clock struck midnight so he could be the first person to wish you a happy birthday, a few minutes after you hung up and went to bed as you were tired and wanted to be well rested because unfortunately you had to go to school, but luckily it was Friday. After you went to sleep Connor wrote you a long birthday message for you to read once you woke up and then went to sleep himself. Connor got up extra early in order to get you your favorite drink from the local coffee shop before he picked you up, you were over the moon and thought that this would be the extent of the birthday celebration, but boy were you wrong. While you were walking in the halls a few people wished you a happy birthday and you  said thank you quietly while blushing.
For lunch Connor took you off campus to your favorite fast food restaurant and gave you the first of many presents, this one was a stuffed animal from Build-A-Bear Workshop which he drenched in his cologne which you loved so much. He told you to press the paw and when you did a recording of Connor saying “I love you Y/N” played and you just about died. Connor swears he saw you start to cry but you fiercely denied it. Much to both your dismays your lunch period was almost over and you had to head back to school. The rest of the day went by fairly fast and you got a few more birthday wishes from your peers and even some teachers. At the end of the day Connor dropped you off home so you could have dinner and celebrate with your family. You wanted him to stay for the festivities but he insisted Cynthia needed him home, but he would see you later.
Your family celebration finished at about 6:45 and Connor came and picked you up at 7:15. You went over to the Murphy residence, when you arrived Cynthia, Larry and Zoe were all sitting at the dinner table talking, they stopped their conversation and wished you a happy birthday. You said thank you while blushing madly, you then practically ran up to Connor’s room to get away from all the attention. Once you got into Connor’s room you plopped down on his bed and threw your arm over your eyes. You heard Connor shuffling around the room but then he stopped suddenly, you removed your arm from your eyes and saw Connor standing at the foot of his bed with a picture frame full of pictures of the two of you. “Oh my gosh Con,” you say while getting up and going over to him. “I love it, so much.” You gave him a gigantic hug and he pressed a gentle kiss to the top of your head. The two of you stood like that for a moment, just enjoying one another’s presence. After you broke apart you took the frame into your hands and looked at all the pictures, there were some form when the two of you first met in middle school, then some from various dances which you dragged Connor to throughout the years, some from dates, and then some candid ones your friends snuck of you when everyone was hanging out together. Those were your favorites cause you could see how much you and Connor adored each other. After staring at the pictures for a few minutes you and Connor decided to just cuddle, what you didn’t know was that he was just waiting for it to get a bit darker before he took you out for the night's final activity.
You were just about to fall asleep to the sound of Connor’s heartbeat when he pressed a kiss in your head and softly said, “Hey sleepyhead, time to get up.”
“Huh?” you said sitting up, head fogged with fatigue.
“Get up. We’re going somewhere,” he gently cooed.
“Where are we going?” you asked, very confused. You figured the two of you were just going to spend the rest of the night cuddling or something like that.
“Guess you’ll just have to wait and find out,” he said booping your nose while getting out of bed. “Come on you slowpoke,” he said already halfway out his bedroom door. You had finally woken up all the way and were following Connor out the door. By the time you made it down stairs he was already waiting at the door with his shoes on. You hurried to put your shoes on because you didn’t want to keep him waiting any longer than you already had, because of this you lost your balance. “Woah slow down babe!”, Connor said while grabbing your arm to make sure you didn’t fall.
“Sorry I just didn’t want to keep you waiting,” you said, cheeks turning bright red while you finished putting in your second shoe.
“You ready to go, Lovely?” he asked, holding out his hand for you to grab.
“Yes,” you said, happily accepting his hand.
Once you got out to his truck he opened your door and you thanked him with a kiss on the cheek. Once you both got settled in Connor handed you the AUX cord and you put on the playlist the two of you made together for car rides, it was filled with your guys favorite songs and songs that reminded one of you of the other person. There wasn’t much talking during the ride as you were trying to figure out where the heck Connor was taking you but the two of you did hold hands over the center console and he was rubbing small circles on the back of your hand with his thumb. After about 15 minutes of driving you finally arrived at your destination, the old abandoned orchard on the edge of town.
You were very confused as to why Connor took you here. “What are we doing here Murphy?”
“Well you always mentioned how you wanted to go stargazing with your special someone, so I figured I would do it for you on your birthday, I just hope I'm special enough for ya,” he says looking down and blushing when he says that last part. He points to the back of the truck that's all decked out with blankets, pillows and even fairy lights, still not meeting your eyes.
“Connor, honey, look at me,” you say, grabbing his hands in yours to make him look at you. At some point you started to tear up because you're amazed he remembered when you said you wanted to go stargazing and amazed that he cared this much about you to set this all up. “I love this very much just like I love you very much. You are more than special to me Connor Murphy.” Once you were done talking you gave him a kiss on the tip of his nose and then hugged him. He rested his head on top of yours and the two of you just stood there for a little while.
Once you finally pulled apart you went and hopped into the back of his truck and snuggled into all of the blankets. Connor pulled his phone out and took a photo of you, “Oh yeah this is definitely my new lockscreen,” he said with a smirk.
“Hey you asshole! It's still my birthday you can't be mean to me!” You said with a pout like a small child.
“Its cute i swear babe,” he said, still with that stupid smirk on his face.
“Come get in here with me you dummy,” you said reaching out for him with your hands.
“Give me two seconds you big baby,” he said while over dramatically rolling his eyes and scoffing. He went into the front of his truck and plugged his phone into the aux and started playing the playlist he made for the night and getting your final gift of the night.
 After what seemed like an eternity Connor came and settled into the truck with you. You laid your head on top of his chest and tangled his legs with yours, two of you just stayed like that for a while and enjoyed the stars along with each other's presence. After a while the two of you sat up and started eating the snacks Connor brought and were just talking. He eventually said “I actually have one more present for you.” He dug around in his pocket for a minute before pulling out a small jewelry box. He handed it over to you and when you opened it up there was a small heart shaped necklace with his initials engraved onto it. “It's a locket so open it, there's something inside,” he said watching your face intently while you looked at the necklace. WIth some struggle you opened the necklace and inside was your favorite picture of Connor and another engraving that said “My love forever and always” and your anniversary date. You fully started to bawl now because this was the best gift someone could ever get you.
“Hey, hey, hey what's wrong lovely?” he asked voice full of genuine concern and internally freaking out because he thought he did something wrong.
“Nothing, it's just… this night is so perfect no ones ever done anything like this for me ever. And I love this necklace so much Con,” you said while wiping at your face.
“Come here baby,” Connor said, opening his arms for you to go in between them. You just cried for a little bit because you felt so loved and whispered thank yous into Connors chest.
Once you calmed down  Connor helped you put your locket on and once he finished you settled into his chest and  looked back up at the sky and saw a shooting star. “Hey look,” Connor gently whispered, “Make a wish”. You didn’t make a wish though because you already had everything you needed right there
Stargazers — Asahi x Reader
Tumblr media
This fic is part of a collab run by @euphylli with the prompt “It’s 3am, why are you at my window?” Word Count: 1.9k Synopsis: On a hot summer night you find yourself unable to sleep and go to your neighbor for help Warnings: None just fluff
The humidity left a sticky residue in your room. No matter how low you set your thermostat, the hot summer air wouldn’t stay out. You tossed your blanket off of your body in a desperate attempt to cool off, or at least to stop sweat from coating your bedsheets. You would definitely have to wash those come morning. Despite your struggle, it still felt like a sauna in your bedroom, and you quickly gave up on the idea of getting any sleep that night. It’s not like you had anything to get up for the next day. You were home from college at your parents’ house for the summer, and... so was your neighbor.
You sent a quick glance out your window to your neighbor’s to see if the light was on. To your dismay, it wasn’t. You were getting flashbacks to high school as your mind became set on what to do next. Your fingers gripped the bottom of the window and slid it open. Immediately, you were smacked in the face by the muggy air outside, which was somehow even worse than your room. Removing the screen from your window and leaning it against your wall, you started to question your choice. It had been a few months since you had last spoken to your neighbor, and maybe this wasn’t the best way to start again. Nevertheless, against your better judgement, you swung your leg over the ledge and crawled through the window. You weren’t necessarily sneaking out. Sure, you were secretly climbing through your bedroom window, but you could’ve walked out the front door if you had wanted to. This was just more efficient.
Your foot made contact with the roof shingles, the ridges digging into your bare soles. You slowly slid down the roof towards the gap that separated your house from your neighbor’s. In all the years you’ve been bridging the gap between the two homes, you hadn’t fallen once. But then again, you weren’t quite as coordinated as you were at sixteen. Luckily, this wasn’t the first, and you let yourself fall forward onto all fours for balance. Did you look particularly graceful as you crawled up the roof? Frankly, you looked like a complete idiot, but, hey, it got the job done. As you crept up the roof, you considered turning back. Just imagine how embarrassing it would be if he turned you away at the window. You shook the thought off. It wasn’t like the two of you weren’t on speaking terms or anything. It had just been a while since you both had the free time to talk face to face so you relied heavily on texting and FaceTime calls.
Your thoughts took you all the way up to the window, where you gave three quick raps before you could take the time to talk yourself out of it. A yelp was heard from inside the room, followed by a loud thump which you could only assume was your neighbor’s body hitting the floor. At least he was up. A separation was made in the blinds that were obstructing your view of the room and two big brown eyes stared into yours. You gave a sheepish wave and the window slid open.
“Good morning, Asahi!”
“It’s 3 am, why are you at my window?” His voice was groggy and you assumed he was either on the verge of falling asleep or you had just woken him up. You felt slightly guilty for disturbing his rest but at the same time, you knew he wouldn’t be angry. At the moment he was mainly disoriented from the late hour and concerned as to why you were here for the first time in a while. “Are you okay?”
“Yeah, I’m fine, just a little restless, I guess. So can I come in or should I head back?”
“No! Don’t leave!” He quickly moved out of the way to let you slip through the window before closing it. His hands fidgeted nervously as he thought of what to say next. “Sorry, it just took me by surprise. You haven’t been over in a while and I was scared something was wrong, but I’m glad you’re okay. I wouldn’t know what to do if something happened to you.” A smile ghosted over your lips as you realized just how much you had missed him. You reached out for his jittery hands, trying to calm them. Surprisingly, he didn’t jerk away like you thought he would and instead let his hands settle in yours. This was new for both of you. Sure, you used to hang all over Asahi like he was your personal jungle gym, but this just didn’t have the same effect.
“Not you getting mushy already,” you quickly joked in a desperate attempt to change the tone of the conversation. “So, where are you taking me, big boy?” You cringed as that slipped through your mouth. That used to be your go-to nickname when it came to teasing Asahi, but now it just felt wrong. Without answering you, he walked to his closet and threw a pair of slides and a hoodie at you. “It’s a literal sauna outside and you want me to wear a hoodie?” You watch his eye trail down your body and you remembered the lack of clothing you currently wore in a desperate attempt to cool off enough to sleep. Since the idea of getting any rest that night was out of the question, you reluctantly shrugged on the jacket, mumbling about how you were gonna sweat like a pig.
When the two of you left the house, it was through the front door this time and not the window. Asahi opened the passenger door to his car, a beat-up Nissan that he bought for college, to let you in like the gentleman he was. He slid into the driver’s seat and turned to you. “How does convenience store food and a trip to the park sound?” You eagerly nodded. Late-night snacks with Asahi was some top tier shit, and frankly, you were feeling pretty hungry.
A sense of peace filled your mind as you watched Asahi drive. The car ride was mostly silent, only the sound of Asahi’s playlist that you’d always scrunch your nose at when he’d play it with you. Soft streetlights would periodically illuminate Asahi’s face as you passed beneath them. His hair was disheveled from only waking up minutes ago and his stubble wasn’t yet shaved. Despite that, he still looked perfect to you. If you were being completely honest, you used to have a crush on Asahi in high school, but he was always so skittish that you were afraid to act upon it and end up scaring your friend away. Yet some of that old crush still remained. It was extremely repressed, obviously, but definitely still there. When you walked inside the convenience store, Asahi was still on your mind. When you realized you didn’t have your wallet on you since you were in your pajamas, he insisted on paying and refused to let you pay him back. He opened up your door again and refused to let you carry the bag of junk food on your lap while he drove. When one of his hands slipped off the wheel to rest on the center console, you had to restrain yourself from reaching out to grab it. When you reached the park, you jumped out of the car before Asahi had the chance to open it for you. It wasn’t that you didn’t like how he was treating you, in fact, it was quite the opposite, but you just didn’t know how much more you could take before your long-repressed crush resurfaced.
The two of you settled on a spot in the grass to eat the snacks Asahi had bought. A bag of popcorn was emptied in about a minute in your repeated attempts to land a piece in Asahi’s mouth. After going through a majority of the food you let yourself fall back into the ground. He followed your movements and laid next to you, both staring up at the sky. On nights like this when the two of you were younger, you’d make up random constellations and try to find them again the next night. Your personal favorite was the “man bun” constellation, which just happened to be a random cluster of stars that sort of formed a circle, but mostly it just existed to poke fun of Asahi’s hair.
“God, the stars are so beautiful.” Your head was tilted up, gazing at the twinkling lights in the sky, and your lips were parted in amazement. Asahi fixated his eyes on you. To him, all the stares paled in comparison to you. You were perfect.
“I know something more beautiful,” he murmured, gaining your attention. You knew where he was going with this, and there was absolutely no way that you’d let him get away with saying something so cheesy. It was adorable when he said stuff like this, but interrupting and making Asahi flustered was much cuter.
“Of course! You’re the most gorgeous person I know.” A small smirk ghosted your lips as you watched his face flush red. You weren’t lying; he was gorgeous. You rolled over on your side to look at him, not even bothering to be discreet about it. “Asahi, I have something to tell you.” His face morphed to concern, but you continued before he could interrupt. “I like you. I actually have for a while now, and I completely get it if you don’t feel the same way. It’s not something I’d want to throw our friendship away over, but I just wanted to let you know.”
An uncomfortable silence overtook the conversation, and you started to regret your decision. You couldn’t bring yourself to look at Asahi, fearing that he’d have an unsavory expression. It wasn’t until you heard a slight chuckle that your eyes darted back to him. His face was still the color of a tomato and he had a permanent smile implemented on it.
“Please tell me you’re serious about this. Do you know how long I’ve liked you? Daichi and Suga would tease me about it for hours when we hung out.”
It felt like pure bliss to hear those words. You reached out to touch his face to confirm that this was, in fact, happening and not a result of heat exhaustion. “Can I kiss you?” you asked, not wanting to startle him or move too fast. He gave a quick nod and you brought your face to his. Your noses brushed against each other as your lips connected. God, you were thankful for kissing conventions because Asahi would’ve seen your heated face if his eyes were open. Not that he couldn’t feel it. He brought his hands to gently rest on your shoulders, not wanting to force you anywhere. When both of you pulled away, you rested your forehead against his. It was far from a perfect kiss, most firsts are, but it was sweet. You shifted your body to a more comfortable position over his and went in for another kiss. This time was cleaner and you could feel yourself melt into him, the salty taste of popcorn residing on his lips. A soft hum came from his mouth, leading you to smile and slowly disconnect yourself. All those years you had spent yearning over him felt worth it as you saw him smiling underneath you. No one else in the world, just you two stargazers.
And They Were Roommates
Requested fic by anon (if you have any fic ideas or requests you'd like me to write, you can leave me an ask!)
Book: Queen B, (after) Chapter 13
Pairing: Zoey Wade x MC (Bea Hughes)
Genre: Fluff
Rating: G, none
Word count: 3,140
A/N: Zoey and MC have a impromptu sleepover after making up from their fight a few weeks ago. Took shorter than expected cuz I wanted to get it done today so here it is! I think this might be my fav fic of mine so far :)
Tag list: @ineedskyecrandall @kamilahsayeet2063 @avalawrencefl @lovekamilahsayeed @thequeenkamilahsayeed @heygmicheelle (lmk if anyone would like to be included or removed in my next fics.)
"Have you gotten the chips yet?"
"Yeah, do you have the chocolate?"
"First thing I grabbed!"
Zoey wrapped her arms around my waist from the back and rested her chin on my shoulder. Together we peered into our shopping cart, almost overflowing with snacks. Underneath was our weekly grocery but it was entirely hidden.
"Babe, this is a ridiculous amount junk food," Zoey laughs.
"I mean, it's not like we're gonna finish it in one night. We could always keep it for some other time or even throw a party or something," I protested with a smile.
"This is basically an invitation for diabetes and an aneurysm."
"I don't see you making any effort to put some back though," I challenged.
She just laughs and lets go of me as we continued making our way down the aisle.
It was past sundown and we came to the grocery store with the only intention of stocking up our fridge with groceries. However, on the way, Zoey suggested we have a 'sleepover night' since we made up even though we live together and it's been weeks since the fallout. I'm not complaining though, I thought it'd be really fun especially if it means spending more time her.
And of course I suggested on getting some snacks 'cuz what's a sleepover without 'em? But we may have went a little overboard.
We headed towards the checkout and unloaded all the items onto the conveyor belt. My phone kept going off so I pulled it out to check it. Poppy was spamming my notifications again. The bitch just won’t leave me alone.
I scrolled through the 52 messages and rolled my eyes. I turned my phone on silent then looked back to Zoey who was already paying. I helped her place all the foodstuff back into the cart. Before leaving, I caught Zoey place the tips of her outstretched fingers to her chin and then bring it forward in the direction of the cashier. The cashier returned the gesture.
Wait, did Zoey know sign language?
As we made our way out of the grocery store, I turned to Zoey. "Were you communicating in sign language to the cashier?"
"Yeah, they had hearing impairment. You know ASL too?"
I shook my head. "I mean, I only know the basics like 'yes' and 'no'. I didn't know you knew sign language."
I loved finding out new things about her. It was a pleasant surprise every time.
Zoey let out a small chuckle. "You still have lots to learn about me, babe." She gave me a mischievous look. "Which is exactly why this sleepover is vital!"
I laughed at her as we reached our car and transferred the grocery bags once again. We drove back to campus, blasting music and jamming out to it on the way. I looked over to see her singing her heart out and making exaggerated facial features while bouncing up and down. Moments like these with Zoey made me so glad I was dating my best friend. I smiled at her and joined in.
When we arrived, Zoey and I piled the groceries onto our arms, refusing to make a second trip to the car and back.
We almost made it to our dorm room when Zoey stopped dead in her tracks. I bumped into her, causing me to almost loose my balance and drop everything I was carrying. Fortunately, I managed to prevent myself from falling.
"What the hell, Zo?"
"It's here!"
"What's here?"
She was looking down so I tried to peak over her shoulder to see what she was staring at. Being taller than me, it was no use.
Finally, she stepped aside to unlock the door and I saw what she was talking about. It was a package right at our doorstep.
"What's that?"
"You'll see." She entered and placed all the food on the kitchen counter before going out to retrieve the box.
I put the bags I were carrying beside hers and followed her to the dining table where she took a knife to cut open the tape sealing the box.
"Voilà!" she exclaimed and flip the lids open in a flourish.
The object inside was still wrapped up in plastic but I could make out some fabric through the clear wrapping.
"Here, this is for you! Catch!" She tossed me a plastic bag with the fabric in it and took one for herself.
I held it up and finally figured out what it was.
"Zoey Wade, you did not!"
"But yes! I did!"
I ripped open the plastic the same time she did and we unfolded the material to show it off to the other.
"You got us matching onesies?!"
She nodded enthusiastically with the biggest, cutest grin ever.
"I got us penguins 'cuz I remember you saying you like them. Also, they're so cute! Just like us!" she said with a laugh.
I didn't even bother with a reply, I was too excited. I pulled her by the face into a kiss. Her soft lips met mine, kissing me back. It was brief but if I wasn't already giddy with excitement, I definitely was now. "Thank you, Zo!"
We quickly changed into our respective onesies and modelled for the other.
"Aww, you're the cutest penguin ever," Zoey spoke in a soft and gentle voice that made me blush.
"No, you are!" I rushed to her to embrace her in a hug. "You're so soft," I giggled into her shoulder.
"Now we know our cuddle game is gonna be strong later," she laughed along with me. "Come, we have to set up the pillow fort."
I nodded but refused to let go off her. Human Zoey was a fantastic hugger but Penguin Zoey only made it better.
"Maybe I should've gotten you a monkey onesie instead," she teased and turned her head to kiss my temple. Then, she gently pried me away. "I promise we'll continue this later."
I finally let go and we got to work, building our pillow fort in the middle of the living room. It took us longer than we'd like to admit to set up the blanket as the tent. Whenever we'd secure one side, the other would come undone. It only made us crack up harder the more often it happened.
"Okay, okay, I got this side, you go grab the other!"
I rushed to the other side and made sure it would stay in place. We cautiously let go of the blanket and backed away. To our surprise, it didn't fall.
"Yes!"
We tossed a bunch of pillows into the blanket fort and hung fairy lights all over, including inside. We switched off the main lights a took a step back to admire our handiwork. We snaked an arm around each other to side hug.
"Good job, babe," Zoey smiled, squeezing me into her.
"You too, beautiful." I gave her a peck on the cheek in reply.
"Alright, time to call for pizza now!"
"Can you do it on your phone? Poppy has been blowing up mine so I'm avoiding it at all cost."
Her eyes widen. "Still? It's been so long!"
"I know," I sighed. "I'll probably block her tomorrow or something. Tonight, it's all about you and me."
"You got that right," Zoey murmured and gave me a small kiss on the lips.
She grabs her phone and dials up the pizza place. Once she was done, she went into her room and came out holding a folded picnic blanket.
"C'mon," she said and stretched out her other hand for me to hold.
I accepted her warm hand in mine instinctively, loving the way it fits perfectly. "Where are we going? What's up with the mat?"
"The delivery guy said he couldn't come up to the dorm to deliver it. The best he can do is meet us at the courtyard. So I thought we could maybe stargaze while we wait."
My heart skipped and my breath hitched. Stargazing with Zoey? How could I say no? Who in their right mind would say no?
“In our onesies?”
“Only if you want to.”
"Of course I want to!" I blurted and immediately dragged her out the door with her chuckling at me.
At the courtyard, Zoey spread open the picnic blanket and laid it on the ground. She sat on it and reached up to grab my hand, pulling me down to sit beside her. We laid down on our backs and looked up at the sky. It was clear and the stars seemed to twinkle extra bright tonight.
Zoey's hand moved around in search of mine and interlaced our fingers together when she found it. I gave it a squeeze and smiled into the night, never felt so contented before. Just two people in penguin onesies under the night sky, holding hands.
"Do you recognise any constellations?" I asked her.
"I can't say I do, are you some kind of astronomy expert that I didn't know?"
I laughed. "No, but my dad used to point some out to me when I was a kid. He'd take me outside and we'd just sit and watch the stars."
I glanced at her and saw a small smile play on her lips. That in turn made me smile. I was sharing a meaningful, nostalgic moment with her and that sent a thrill through me. I couldn't express how grateful I was that I could share this with her.
"Tell me about them." She looked at me and then back at the starry sky.
"That one is the Ursa Major, or the Great Bear," I said softly, just loud enough for her to hear. I pointed to the sky and traced the stars with my finger. She moved in closer to me to see where I traced.
"And that’s the Big Dipper. It consists of the seven brightest stars of the Ursa Major." I continued to move my finger in the air.
It was really cute that her eyebrows furrowed in concentration as she was listening but the she squinted. "That doesn't look like a bear."
I laughed again and said, "Almost every constellation doesn't look like their names, darling. You should see Corvus."
"That's a little weird."
"Why don't you go ahead and name one then," I insisted.
"Okay," she replied and pointed to the brightest star in the sky I could see. "I'm calling that Bea Hughes."
I started giggling and I could feel the butterflies in my stomach flutter furiously.
"Then that one should be called Zoey Wade." I indicated to the star that was directly beside the one she chose.
She grinned at me and I squeezed her hand once more. "Perfect."
She rolled into her side and I followed suit. Facing each other, we stared at the other for a while with our hands still interlocked. I brought my other hand up to brush the stray strands that fell in her face. I rested my hand against her cheek and gently stroked her smooth skin. She closed her eyes.
I looked at her in unabashed adoration. It wasn't the first time I was blown away by her and I was certain it wouldn't be the last time. My eyes trailed over the features of her face. She was perfection.
She opened her eyes and I gasped as a wave of emotion flooded me. My heart was beating a million miles an hour as realisation dawn on me when I gazed into her brilliant eyes.
I loved Zoey Wade.
I loved the way she tossed her head back when she laughed. I loved how her eyes lit up when she was talking about something she was passionate about. I loved the way she looked at me. I loved that she remembers the smallest things about me even when I don't recall mentioning it to her myself. I loved getting to know new things about her. I loved the way she brightens my day just by seeing her
I was in love with her.
I reacted the only way I knew how to; I pulled her into me to hug her and immediately buried my face in her neck.
"I adore you, Zo." I kissed the skin where her neck and shoulder meets.
"I adore you too."
We stayed like that in comfortable silence until we heard someone shout 'oh my god!' and footsteps coming closer.
I felt her turn her head to the source and sigh. Me with my face still in her neck whispered, "Is that the demon I hear?"
"Unfortunately."
Poppy stopped right over us and crossed her arms. I looked straight up at her and Zoey shifted to look at her too.
"This is why you've been ignoring me?!" she practically screeched. "You've been ignoring me to lie around in the middle of the lawn in stupid animal suits? With her?"
"Why? Jealous?"
She scoffed. "As if, Farmsville!"
"Shoo shoo, we're in the middle of something," Zoey said unamused while waving her hand at Poppy.
Poppy started shouting at us but we weren't paying attention any longer.
"Ughh! Fine! You will regret this!" she huffed and finally stomped away.
"Oh, just in time," I said as I saw the pizza delivery person.
We paid for our pizza and headed back up to our dorm.
Once we stepped passed the door, I heard Zoey's phone buzz and then laugh.
"What's up?"
"Check your phone."
Still on silent, I whipped out my phone and saw the notifications. My eyes widen when I saw both Zoey and I's ranking on The T increase. I scrolled through the feed and saw a picture of us from just now at the courtyard, cuddling.
"Poppy thought she could submit this and ruin us!" Zoey said between giggles. "Obviously it backfired 'cuz now everyone at Belvoire thinks we're the cutest couple on campus."
I went through the comments.
'Omg, they're so cute!' 'I didn't know they were together but they look good.' 'They're perfect for each other!' 'And they were roommates...'
I snorted and glanced over at Zoey who looked beyond ecstatic. "Suck it, Poppy!"
I laughed at her and wrapped my arms around her waist.
"Y'know, we do make a pretty cute couple."
"Only 'pretty cute'?" Zoey teased and returned my hug. "We're fricken' adorable!"
I brought her in for a kiss and she grabbed onto me a little tighter. One hand was on the back of my neck and the other went around my waist, gripping it. The way she kissed me was electric. Surges of energy ran through my veins, making me come alive. The passion and yearning poured into the kiss made me breathless. Being in love with her only amplified the feeling.
Zoey broke the kiss, panting but mostly laughing.
"Sorry, babe," she said, trying to catch her breath. "I just remembered we're both in penguin onesies."
I broke into a fit of giggles. God, I loved this girl.
"Damn right we are," I confirmed, beaming. "Must look pretty ridiculous but it's sure as hell comfy."
Zoey grinned back at me and grabbed my hand to lead me into the pillow fort. We took the pizza with us along with a bottle of wine.
"Cheers!" We clinked glasses and took a swig after she poured some out.
Even though we had a TV in the living room, Zoey brought out her laptop 'cuz our pillow fort was blocking it. She set it up and started playing 'Breakfast at Tiffany's'.
I turned to Zoey. "How did you know this was my favourite classic?"
"Who doesn't love a good Hepburn movie once in a while?"
We dug into the pizza while enjoying our wine. After we were done, we got into a comfortable position. She laid back, propping her head up using the pillows as I laid my head on her chest, arms wrapped around each other as well as our legs. Some of the snacks we got earlier surrounded us for easy access. She was right, cuddling with the onesies was on a whole other level.
"Can we just stay like this, forever?"
"I'd love to but I think we have other obligations," she joked.
"Can we at least do this every weekend then? Penguin onesies, pillow forts and all?"
"Sounds good to me."
The movie continued and eventually, Holly Golightly started singing 'Moon River'. I heard Zoey singing along softly.
'Moon river, wider than a mile, I'm crossing you in style someday.'
I gazed up at her and she looked back at me, still singing.
'Oh dream maker, you heartbreaker, Wherever you're going, I'm going your way.'
Mesmerised by the beautiful sound of her voice, I just stared at her in wonderment while she sang the rest of the song.
"You're unreal," I spoke in amazement when she was done.
She giggled and kissed my forehead. "That's you, darling."
I laid her head back onto her chest and listened to the gentle thump in her chest as the movie carried on. A while later, I looked up to peer at Zoey only to find her eyes closed.
She must have fallen asleep. Thinking back to my recent revelation when we were stargazing, I started speaking quietly, just above a whisper. I couldn't hold it in.
"You probably can't hear me, but I have to get something off of my chest," I said. "Kinda funny that were in penguin onesies. 'Cuz penguins mate for life. Not that I'm saying we'll be together for the rest of our lives even though I really hope we do."
I exhaled slowly and continued, "What I mean is that, after the whole situation at the Zeta's, I thought I lost you for good. I can't tell you how lucky I am that you're giving me a second chance. We're in this together and I mean it. I'll always be by your side no matter what."
I closed me eyes. She may not hear this part in person but I hope she hears it in her dreams. "What I'm trying to say... what I'm saying is that, I love you, Zo."
Instantly, I could hear her heart begin to pound rapidly. My eyes shot open as butterflies invaded my stomach. Did she hear me?
I felt her hand that was resting my my thigh twitch. I look down to see the barest movement of her fingers. Her ring and middle finger down while the rest were stretched out.
My own heart started racing in recognition. One of the only signs I knew.
I love you.
I squeezed her, hugging her tighter to let her know I saw it. I felt her tighten her hold on me in response.
We drifted off to sleep in each other's embrace with me being lulled by her heartbeat, knowing that my love loved me back.
(More fics!)
"Are you sure we should be doing this?" He whispered tentatively behind her.
"We aren't doing anything wrong. We're fine." she whispered back.
"Then why are we whispering?" He questioned.
"I don't know, you're the one who started whispering" she giggled softly.
They quietly made their way through the dark, slowly weaving through the trees following the path, the half moon slightly lighting their way. The soft sound of their feet against the dirt encompassing them.
"We're almost there, I promise" she said reaching back her hand. He grabbed it tightly, she could feel his heart pounding, as her fingers intertwined with his.
The path opened to a beautiful clearing overlooking the city. The stars visible above them. She smiled as she looked at him, his eyes got big as he looked up, his mouth slightly agape.
"Wow" was all he could say. He never thought sneaking out with his girlfriend would be so unique. Most people sneaking out to parties, his girlfriend snuck him out to go stargazing. She pulled the backpack off her back, and pulled out two blankets. She spread one out in the clearing, and put the other over her lap as she sat down. He laid on the blanket next to her, and she smiled as she draped the blanket over him as well and laid down, her head on his chest.
The stars twinkled in the midnight sky, as they cuddled. She was the yin, to his yang.
He was the shy studious type. His bleached hair, and picturesque features made him the talk of the town. His laugh and smile lit up the whole campus when he joked with his friends.
She was the trouble maker. Labeled a rebel with her short bright purple undercut hair, eyebrow piercing, and motorcycle. Everyone judged her by her looks, except him.
----- three months earlier-----
"She just thinks she owns the place" Jen scoffed, stirring her iced coffee with her straw.
"I know, she just storms in every place she goes, her boots clanking on the floor as she stomps everywhere." Jens best friend Rose added, as they both eyed her from across the dining hall.
Yeosang was shocked, everyone at this college seemed to have it out for her. They all gossiped about her, her apparent 'bad behavior', that he'd never seen. Also everyone's rumors of her were different. The only thing he knew for sure was her name was Jae Hwa, or Jae, and she rocked her short purple undercut far better than any other girl could. Sure her resting face was a bit..... harsh, but some people said the same about him. After he heard yet another rumor from the next table over, he decided to go see what she's all about for himself. Yeosang stood up quickly, he had to do this before he changed his mind. He started towards her, ignoring the questions from his friends at the table he just abandoned.
She was leaning her chair back, on two legs, against the brick wall of the dining hall, eating a sandwich, while doing something on her phone. She was preoccupied in her own little world, and why shouldn't she be. This school was full of gossip, which just annoyed her. She was here to study, how else was she going to get into the school she was really aiming for.
Yeosang approached her table when he started questioning everything. What if that prison rumor was true? Or that one about eating a live duck. She didn't look heartless enough to eat a live animal. What was he doing? He didn't know her. She definitely didn't know him. What was he going to say? It's not like he should start a conversation with 'I heard rumors about you, and wanted to know if they were true.'
He stopped a few steps away from her, maybe if he turned back now she wouldn't see him. She looked up at him, cocking her eyebrows, the metal gracing her right brow glinting with the movement. "Can I help you?" She petitioned.
He was a deer in the headlights, he was trapped. Her stare was slightly unnerving.
"I'm Yeosang" he stated, mentally slapping himself. This was not what he intended.
"I know." she replied, leaning her chair forward, letting it hit the ground with a bang. She leaned forward, onto the table. Her bright eyes bore into his. "How can I help you, Yeosang?"
He heard people start to gossip behind him, as she stared him down. He took a few steps and sat at an empty chair at her table.
"I was wondering if I could join you." He seemed unsure of his own words.
A smirk graced her lips.
"Well, looks like you already did" her voice had a playful tune to it, as she crossed her arms over her chest.
"I was wondering what your majoring in?" He asked, trying to seem natural in this awkward situation he had caused.
"Biomedical science" she responded dryly, he was intrigued.
"I didn't know we had that here"
"This university doesn't, but it's close to home, and gives me the prerequisites I need to get into the school I want."
He nodded, a soft smile gracing his statuesque face.
The conversation deepened after that. He explained he was currently doing a computer sciences major, but was thinking of changing to something to do with International relations, or something so he would have the chance to meet people from around the world. They then started to talk about anything and everything, like how she had gotten a motorcycle because it was cheaper on gas. How his best friend was constantly trying new recipes, and making him try them, which most of the time ended in disaster. Their laughter was interrupted by her phone going off.
She looked at it and cursed. "I'm late for that stupid lecture." she grumbled, quickly shoving things into her bag. "This was nice, thanks." She gave a quick wave as she practically ran out of the dining hall. He looked around to see the hall had mostly emptied, and realized he himself was late for class.
"So you have a thing for bad girls now?" Wooyoung asked as Yeosang sat down at their usual table local Cafe, with his coffee.
"What are you talking about?" He asked.
"He's talking about how you ditched us all without saying a word then went and talked to Jae for who knows how long." San smirked, sipping his coffee.
"She's not a bad girl. She's really nice." Yeosang retorted.
"That's not what I heard," Seonghwa raised his eyebrows. Yeosang felt a small flame alight inside him, it was as if some part of him had to protect her.
"That's the problem, everyone talks about her, I want to actually know her." Yeosang started, his voice calm, but his eyes enraged. "Everyone at this stupid university just gossips, and spreads rumors. You guys should know that better than anyone.  Seonghwa, remember when the rumor started that you broke up with some girl over her not eating your kimchi fried rice?" His eyes became pointed at his friend, Wooyoung scoffed, Yeosang turned on his best friend. "Do you remember when we started as freshman, and everyone was claiming you had, not one but three different clones. None of which knew how to drive a car, two of which didn't speak."
"Yeah, rumors are weird" Wooyoung noted as he looked intensely at his coffee. Yeosang took a deep breath in. Where did that come from? He asked himself, as he looked at his friends. San just stared in awe, as did Mingi. Seonghwa just looked everywhere but Yeosang, and Wooyoung continued to stare at his coffee. Maybe it was a slight guilt Yeosang saw in his best friends eyes. No one should take rumors at face value.
Living at home while going to school was great for saving money. While it worked great for Jae, her parents were supportive of just letting her live her life, and pursue her dreams.
It didn't work so well for Yeosang. His parents were strict, he had a curfew even though he was a legal adult. He also had rules to follow, and he did what his parents wanted him to for school, and for work. Aside from his friends which his parents reluctantly approved of, it seemed as if Yeosangs parents controlled every aspect of his life.
"You just don't get it, your parents let you move out, and do what you want at school. I'm stuck here" Yeosang complained as he leaned on the counter at the small restaurant Wooyoung worked at.
"I've told you to inform them it's your life, and to just move in with Seonghwa, and I." Wooyoung chided as he cleaned another table. Yeosang groaned, stirring his water with the straw placed in the cup.
"Eh, Seonghwa I could handle, you not so much"
"Shut up" Wooyoung threw the dry towel on his shoulder at Yeosang.
"I better head to work" Yeosang groaned.
Work was boring for Yeosang, sure it paid well, but working at the call desk, at the fanciest hotel in the city was never in his plans. Most of the calls he just redirected to the correct department. His favorite part of his shift was when it ended, and he got to walk out of the hotel.
Tonight was like most other nights in early spring; a chill in the air, the scent of cherry blossoms starting to bloom wafting over from the park next to the hotel. Yeosang started his walk towards the subway when he saw a small fluffy dog running towards him excitedly, his leash trailing behind him. Yeosang bent down, and held out his hand to the dog, who approached him, and immediately started licking his hand.
"Bong, get back here!" A voice yelled from within the park, he turned and saw Jae running towards them. Her eyes widened as she saw Yeosang.
"Cute dog you have here." Yeosang said, handing her the leash.
"Thank you for catching him. The little stinker ran off when I was tying my shoe. I guess I didn't have the leash under my foot well enough." She explained with a shrug.
"He just wanted to go on an adventure" he commented, as he bent down. Bong nuzzled his head into Yeosangs palms as he pet him. "What kind of dog is he?"
"He's a cavapoo, well at least that's what the shelter said when I adopted him." She bent down as well. Bong was in heaven, enjoying the pets and loves from two people at the same time, his tail whipping back and forth, as he rolled onto his side.
She never expected Yeosangs kindness. Everyone else she encountered avoided her, but he always smiled at her when the rest would stare, and whisper.
They ended up walking the park and talking for over an hour, the park slowly emptying of people as the hour grew later. He found out she worked at the animal shelter, feeding and taking care of the animals in the back. He explained his boring job he had, and ended up venting about his family situation. She was grateful for a friend, and he was grateful for her listening ear.
When his phone started ringing, he saw who was calling and the time his face paled.
"Hello" he answered reluctantly.
"Where are you"
"I got held up after work"
"You should've been home by now"
"I'm sorry, I will be home shortly"
"Your father and I expect more from you" the line went dead. Yeosang sighed heavily.
"Shit" he muttered, then let out an aggravated scream.
"I'm sorry" Jae said, watching him run his fingers through his hair. "I shouldn't have kept you." She stared at her feet, softly kicking at the grass.
"It's not you, I just" his voice fading as he stared off in the distance. "I just wish I had the courage and money to just move out. I just have to figure out how to live my own life." His voice soft yet determined.
Jae found herself softly touching his arm, trying to comfort him. Her timid touch brought him back to reality.
"The subway is going to take forever to get home"
"I live less than a block away, let's take Bong back to my place and I'll give you a ride"
"I can't believe I'm riding bitch on a girls motorcycle" Yeosang muttered as she handed him her extra helmet.
"Well im not letting anyone else drive my baby" Jae laughed putting her own helmet on. She climbed on and started her blue bullet bike. "Climb on, wrap your arms around me and just lean with me around corners." She instructed. The city seemed to fly past, as they made their way towards his house.
"Stop here" he yelled.
"But your house is another block or so," she yelled back.
"My parents are already ready to kill me, I can't imagine what they would do if they saw me get off a motorcycle" he hollered. She shook her head as she stopped, and turned off her bike. He thanked her and handed back the helmet.
"You know, if you ever need someone to talk to, feel free to text me" she stared at the ground, her sudden shyness was intriguing. She usually held more of a hard expression, this one seems vulnerable. He smiled.
"I'd love to, but I need your number first" he teased. He could see her cheeks darken through her helmet, as he handed her his phone. She quickly added her number.
He smiled widely as he made his way towards home. He didn't look forward to what would happen once he arrived home, but he looked forward to texting her later.
StarGazers
featuring: sugawara koushi x afab!reader
wc: 427
summary: Suga confesses his love to y/n, with the stars as his witness
warnings: none
a/n: I wrote this for a friend a few months ago, I just changed out her name for y/n. I hope y'all enjoy <3
Laying under the stars with Suga was not how y/n thought her night would go. Not that she was complaining. Her plans had originally consisted of staying at home and playing video games. Anything to keep herself busy really.
But when Suga had busted through her front door how could she resist the promise of adventure? Exactly. She couldn't. So grabbing a jacket and anything else she would need, they were off.
They drove for a long time to escape the light pollution of the city. But it didn't seem like very long. Not to y/n. Not when they were having so much fun. Y/n and Suga talked about many things. Things of the past, things of the present. Things of the future.
When they finally made it out to the country they were speechless. Sure they had seen stars before, but they were so used to the light pollution from the city. No matter how many times you really see stars it's always amazing.
They got out a blanket and laid it on the hood of the car. Because who wants to lay on the ground, even with a blanket? Or that's how Suga felt, at least.
As they laid there, Suga was trying to think of words to describe how he was feeling. The girl he has loved for years, laying under the stars with him. How could he ever have gotten so lucky. "You look breathtaking in the moonlight."
Y/n tilted her head to look at Suga. Before she could speak he continued, "I hope you know I'll always be here for you. Even though we both get busy and we seem to lead completely different lives I promise to always be there when it counts. You've helped hold me together when I didn't think there was anything left to be held together. Knowing you're always there for me gives me something to believe in. You're my love and I couldn't live without you." Y/n had known Suga for years, and loved him for years. Been with him through all of the ups and downs, yet she had never seen him look so content.
"I'll love you forever Suga. You're my special one," y/n said. She was smiling. Of course she was. The man she loves loves her back. And what better time and place to confess than with just the stars as their witness.
They stayed there under the stars for hours, letting time pass as though it didn't exist. All that existed in that moment was them, and the stars of course.
