You brought up this AU idea from way back where Jon and Rhaegar were born earlier as Aemon and Jocelyn's sons, and thus Rhaenys' little brothers. How old would that put them compared to Daemon? Would he like having more cousins? For that matter, would Rhaenys like having little brothers? Would Aemon live in this AU, or would we get child!King Jon? (The sheer panic, lmao.) If so, would Viserys become his regent? I was just wondering about it and could not resist the curiosity. How do you think things would have changed in this sort of verse? 🤔

I sort of like the idea of them being right around Daemon's age, plus or minus a few years. I'm sure he would be thrilled about having cousins his age, too. Rhaenys is cool, but she's a girl and older. The age gap between her and Daemon is pretty significant in terms of being peers. Rhaenys meanwhile may find it a little disappointing at first. I expect she had dreams of her own that she might be queen someday after her father, long before she got her cold shot of reality at the Great Council. Twin brothers pushes her back behind both of them in the succession.

But Rhaenys is also a seven or eight-year-old, so it's not like politics and the succession are the primary things on her mind when the twins are born. Twins are fun, and the boys are cute/sweet, so I'm sure she warms up to them quickly and bossily assumes control over their education even though she's pretty much a child herself (Jocelyn, amused, lets her). She probably wishes at least one of them had been a girl, especially when she has to deal with the brat pack that is Viserys, Daemon, and the twins running around like hooligans at Dragonstone or the Giant's Toe.

If Aemon dies at his usual canon time and the twins are roughly Daemon's age, then Jon would be thirteenish, which isn't TERRIBLE. (The other alternative is the twins being born much later, aka when Rhaenys is married. Jocelyn gets pregnant, Aemon dies shortly after their birth, and chaos ensues. They'd be contemporaries of Rhaenyra in this case, and I expect Jaehaerys betroths Rhaenyra to Jon and plans for Baelon, and later Viserys, to be Jon's regent.)

Or my soft heart wins out and Aemon gets to live, who can say! That could be an interesting inversion--where Baelon dies, and it's Aemon who has to live on, only unlike Baelon, he has no enemy to strike down in vengeance, since it was sickness that took him. Viserys and Daemon both leaning on him in their grief, Daemon claiming Vhagar(???) instead.

It's hard to say what changes, exactly, without settling on some details! Is this a setting with or without warlocks (aka with or without messy Essos politics)? Does Aemon live or die? Are the twins contemporaries of Daemon or Rhaenyra?

I do think that Jaehaerys is faced with an interesting, difficult choice in the case of Aemon dies + the twins are babies. Because he has a grown son as a very valid alternative, even if standard male-preference primogeniture dictates that Jon and Rhaegar should be above Baelon in the succession. Then again, he did not immediately declare Viserys his next heir after Baelon's death, which shows he was open to Aemon's line stepping back into the position, even if the rest of the realm wasn't.

Things are much more stable if Aemon doesn't die (obviously) or if the twins are born earlier and Jon becomes a thirteen-year-old heir to the Iron Throne. Jaehaerys would have had enough time to get a sense of Jon's capability and know that he's an excellent option.

Otto's not sitting nearly as pretty as in canon (the daughter of a second son is no worthwhile match for the king's heir or his spare), so he may be driven to more desperate measures in his grasping for power.

(I'll bet the twins are Corlys's #1 fans. It is likely joked that no one was more excited when he wed Rhaenys, not even Rhaenys herself.)

“Bam.”

“Bam…are you ok?” You ask.

“No dude, I’m freaking the fuck out!” He says. Starting to get the crying hiccups.

“I can’t eat, i can’t sleep, this is hell. I feel like I’m dying!” He says. Getting more worked up.

“Just try to ride it out. There’s nothing you can do, right? So at least try to be calm.” You say, not really knowing what to do at this point.

“IM FUCKIN TRYING!” He snaps. You say nothing.

He stays with his head in his hands, occasionally hiccuping and sniffling. You sit and think of things that might help.

“Why don’t you maybe try a cool shower? That might help calm you down.” You say, in a gentle tone.

“Yeah, alright.” He says. He seems defeated.

You watch as he gets up to go to the shower. He starts walking in zig zags. You help him to the bathroom and start running him a warm bath instead. He sits on the toilet watching you.

“M’sorry.” He says. Mumbling about some other stuff.

You assure him it’s fine and get some comfy clothes for him to wear. You come back and set them outside the bathroom door. You hope he dosent drown or fall asleep or something.

After anxiously waiting for what felt like forever. He finally comes out of the bathroom. Eyes once more bloodshot, and his face red. He looks more comfortable though.

“How do you feel now?” You ask. He’s still unsteady on his feet.

“Better.” He says, but you know he isn’t 100%.

“Are you sure?” You ask.

“I guess.” He replies.

You motion for him to sit next to you, and he leans on your shoulder, your arm around him. You both sit in silence for a bit, you notice him getting heavier and heavier as he falls asleep.

Phew. You think. You almost didn’t know what to do, and you didn’t want him to be mad at you or something.

Time elapses, even though you smoked and drank today you’re surprisingly not tired. You realize the remote is right beside of where you’re sitting, and grab it to find something on tv.

After watching tv for a couple of hours, you start to get bored and sore from how you’ve been sitting, also Bam being on top of you. You decide to wake him up.

“Bam…hey..Bam..” you say. It takes him forever to wake up.

“Hmm…” he mumbles.

“My back hurts. Why don’t you get up?” You ask.

He mumbles something else, and sits up to rub his eyes.

“How are you feeling?” You ask.

“A whole lot fucking better.” He says. Stretching and looking over at you.

“What time is it?” He asks.

“4am…” you reply.

You had no idea you’d been here this long, but it’s ok..you guess.

“You wanna go back to sleep?” You ask.

“Yeah i will. Are you going home?” He asks.

“I mean..i may as well stay if that’s alright…” you say.

“Yeah that’s fine. You’re sleeping in my bed with me though.” He says. Smiling.

What’s gotten into him?! Why is he so straightforward??

“Yeah that’s fine!” You say, again not trying to seem crazy excited.

You use the same stuff as last time to get ready for bed, and when you get back Bam is waiting for you. He lifts the blanket up for you to get under. This time instead of him cuddling you while asleep, he pulls you close.

After nuzzling into you a bit, he sighs loudly and settles. You, internally freaking out, try not to move, so that he dosent, and try to calm down enough to sleep.

Once more, the warmth and comfort of his bed wrap you up into a nice sleep, but not for long….

Waking up only a few hours later to an empty bed.

“Not this again.” You say under your breath angrily.

Maybe he just needed to pee or something? You think.

Getting up to investigate, walking through the hallway and looking down, you suddenly walk into a person.

Looking up, you realize it’s Bam.

“You thought i was gonna disappear again huh?” He asks, grinning at you.

“Uh, yeah?! What are you doing?” You say, half angry.

“I was going to surprise you…” he says, full blown smiling this time.

What if the reader was Tommy's wife in an arranged marriage? She loved him, he might have had warm feelings, but still cheated. And what if the reader accepted his child after the infidelity? She had just given birth to Tommy's baby herself, literally two weeks ago, when he brought home a newborn from another woman. And what if Tommy saw the reader breastfeeding his son from the infidelity in the middle of the night, tenderly caressing him as his own child.

I'm not very good at describing things and not strong in English at all. Thank you!

This is such an interesting idea! — I just had to dive into it under the cut!

Bless that woman’s heart for sticking with him after he went and not only cheated with, but also had a baby with another woman whilst being married to her .. then she took that baby in (I wonder if the other woman then found out about him being married and dumped the baby on them in exchange for money or something? 🤔🤔 because I’m imagining this being later in the series, when he’s amassed some power) … and so she’s got these two children who are so close in age that it’s practically like she’s raising twins and she has to bring the baby in���.it’s a baby, it can’t do anything for itself and she has a caring heart that goes out to it.

Now we need to dig into why she’s even decided to stay with Tommy after his unforgivably crass actions … So it’s later in the series, Tommy has wealth and power. I’m can’t seem to choose whether (Y/N)’s family is more powerful/wealthy than his, or if they somehow crossed the Shelbys in a way and this marriage was how things became neutralized again.

Either way, I think that she’s pressured to stay in this union because of external circumstances … I also think she’s lost love for Tommy because of his actions, so she decides to devote herself to the two children so that they have the best lives that can be given.

And so when Tommy sees her nurturing this baby that he had with his mistress it kind of breaks his brain — how can she love a child that was brought in under the worst circumstances? But he doesn’t know that she’s already made peace with it all (because she has to given her family and their wishes…she’s not getting out of this marriage) and has dedicated herself to these children.

She stays at Arrow House for the children and raises them up. I’d like to think that the child that isn’t hers doesn’t know that (while they’re young and growing at least) and for the most part they’re a cohesive family unit. She tries her best to make it seem like she and Tommy are happy in front of the children, but those actions don’t just erase themselves and so it’s never 100% not an act — it helps that Tommy’s off working for most of the time though.

I’d also imagine that those children are the apple of her eye and vice versa when they get older — there’s such a deep love there that it transcends everything else.

Have you got any hcs you give to different frame types like in behaviours or habits and culture. Like miners, warframe.seekers, praxian etc.

I always find it so hard to find other world building lore and hcs on other frame types. Usually only seeker stuff which I love. Just don’t know anything about grounders.

I've been holding onto this ask for a little while and I really wanna do it well but. All I have concretely are seeker thoughts (._. )

Sooo time to wing it and talk about the few things that I do have! I could talk to you about the entire political sphere of Vos and the intricacies of its independent society, but... I don't have near as much detail and planning for any of the other cities. I guess the only ones that come close are Polyhex and Crystal City, but that's not what we're here for

I'm rambling. I'll stop now. ANYWAY. Thoughts about warframes... 🤔 admittedly these may not be very spicy, but have some more homey ones, typically set in the context before or void of their oppression:

- Warframes in general are very touchy but private people. Under unfamiliar eyes they may seem cold and apathetic or even disdainful, but in a comfortable social context they're actually rather tactile. Not just in the very tender ways seen among close family, but in more playful, heavy ways among friends. Many activities were social for them, and they tend to form strong bonds with their groups and clans. Bathing was one of the most common social activities, helping wash each other's backs and preening transformation seams.

- Frametypes best suited for mining really, really enjoy a good cave so long as it's not functioning as a prison. Many of them have very sensitive optics, meant to see in near complete darkness, so strobe lights or particularly bright sunshine will have them flinching back before their vision adjusts. Too long in too bright light can cause optic strain or even migraines, if they're unlucky. Caves are the perfect remedy for that, and most miners really love a dark, personalized place with natural walls on all sides and a ceiling above them. Perfect, dark, safe den

- Next is the Praxians. My most outstanding idea for them is that their chevrons and doorwings are very important sensory organs. Their wings function almost like a second pair of optics, reading changes in the wind and the airspace behind them, giving them a much more articulate awareness of their surroundings than most. On the other side, their chevrons are very sensitive, packed with nearly 3x the normal amount of sensory nodes compared to the rest of their bodies. With it they can detect changing moisture or gases in the air, as well as more acutely hone in on scents and temperature changes. In Praxian families, the most intimate form of greeting or comfort is to press one's forehead against another's, letting their chevrons line up and gently touch. Done right, it can stimulate warmth and calm just as holding something warm in your hands can, and to touch someone's chevron without their permission is the gravest insult and is legally classified as assault.

I unintentionally created a shortcut for quickly altering the psychic distance of a sentence while I was thinking of something else, and I figured I'd share it in case anyone else on writeblr struggles like I do

This is theory territory, not harder rules territory

Prelude: A lot of catch-all writing advice is focused on writing the closest psychic distance possible. The classic cases being "always use strong verbs; never use 'was'" and its sibling "avoid filter words at all costs."

For example: "There was a little table in the middle of the room" vs "a thick table squatted in the center of the room." And "she was happy" vs "she smiled."

I like to have all my options available to me. I find far psychic distance most approachable and I have a hard time zooming in, but I've really come to resent the idea that close psychic distance is best, that "was" is generally not appropriate, etc. One of my favorite books of all time, Jurassic Park, uses far psychic distance and "was" and filter words all over the place as part of its detached, clinical style.

I like to write in sort of a medium space because it gives me freedom to use my own voice to make narrative commentary while still keeping some character flavor, but like I said, I like to have my options open, hence why I made this little textual magnifying glass.

All that to say: please don't use this tool to bend your writing style into the shape of someone else's expectations. Alter your writing to suit the needs of the piece and/or because it makes your brain go BRRR.

I made that huge disclaimer because this tool does overtly focus on changing a sentence from far psychic distance to near psychic distance. Once again, that doesn't mean that near psychic distance is somehow better. It just means that I, the maker, struggle with it.

And I guess you could always try running it in reverse 🤔

Final Caveat: I don't write "narrator as a character" far psychic distance stories, so probably disregard most of this if you're doing a Lemony Snicket thing:

Layer 1 (far psychic distance): Statement of fact:

The train was lit by bright LEDs.

Deja thought the towering, blocky skyscrapers were the ugliest things she'd ever seen.

The square was bustling.

Layer 2: Sensory detail

The traincar's bright LEDs stabbed into their eyes.

The ugly skyscrapers towered over the street.

People had flooded the square, bumping up against each other in a chaotic pulse.

Layer 3 (closest psychic distance): Sensory detail and statement of opinion

The cabin LEDs may as well have been flashbangs the way they assaulted Mickey's eyes.

God, the skyscrapers were ugly. They loomed overhead like schoolyard bullies, leering as though to demand your lunch money.

The square overflowed with bright, beautiful life. Warm bodies brushed each other, each one a treasure.

And now for some guidelines I find useful:

Narrative questions (as opposed to dialogue questions) are always extremely close psychic distance

"She thought he might have been crazy" vs "was he fucking stupid?"

"Was" still has a place in close psychic distance. Your prose is going to get very chewy very quickly without it.

Unless you're deliberately slowing the narrative pace to build tension, establish character, or lovingly describe something, sometimes it might be useful to toss in a quick "it was sunny" rather than write five sentences full of strong verbs describing how the sun beats down on people and illuminates the parking lot and itches on your MC's skin and blah blah blah.

Even in closer narrative distance, I like to use filter words when a character is dissociating/otherwise acting out of whack with their internal desires.

"He smiled" implies that it was a deliberate action. "He felt himself smile" indicates that it is happening as an instinct, or independently of his higher reasoning.

This could just be a me thing, but I also find it helpful to use filter words and "was" when a character is introspecting or trying to identify a feeling or a sensation or a noise. This technically does shift the psychic distance back in a way that might be jarring, so YMMV.

"She felt... How did she feel? It was like she had just been tossed off a building, yes, but also like the sheer application of willpower might be enough to stop her fall, if only she could breathe.

Whatever the hell that meant."

Yeah, I worked this weekend. Not bad as far as weekends go.

Making a list of Pedro and Oscar shows and movies I wanna watch while I’m off for the next few days.

Going to see a movie with my Mom Tuesday. Also she wants to come over my house to watch “The Grey Man” because it has Regé-Jean Page in it. The more stuff I watch with my mom, the more is becomes apparent that I get my fangirling honestly. 🤔 Interesting. She would never say she is, but I know. Anytime they almost call security on you at a convention, you’re fangirling too hard.

You still have that pickle…can you get rid of it?

That gherkin has grown on me, but I may find something else. 👀

I mean…but what….should we not complain about the pickle then?

I put out two fics this week. One was angsty and sad? I think. 🤔 Not really sure how to describe it but I like it. It’s my first Santiago Garcia fic. Titled “Canto para mí mismo / I sing for myself.” Grief and PTSD. Not heavy at all. It will be a 4 part series.

Then I followed that up with Marcus Pike smut. I wanted to add to the Pike Pool. I had thots about Marcus and “She’s Under the Weather” was written.

I also gave two dissertations on Oscar Isaac’s facial hair and what’s the best date a PP character could surprise you with? @rhoorl and @i-own-loki game me much to think about and to write. 🤣

I’m finishing up a challenge. I may be able to finish it on time. 👀 It’s just going to smell like old pita bread and metal. Like I didn’t know what else to do with the material! The time period is messing me up. 😑

I thought of a short series for Marcus from a movie tag game I think. The thots were thotting with @magpiepills and @maggiemayhemnj so when we have an angsty sexy menace of a Marcus Pike, see these two for your concerns. 🫣

I also fell into whatever Trash Panda pillow fort Dieter has made. I’m working on chapter 4 of “Weddings 101 Dieter.” I had some notes from some comment I made about Dieter doing a solo activity that has now blossomed into smut to the music of Donna Summer. Because if you’re gonna do it, make it disco 🪩 Lastly, working on my Bubble AU where Dieter picks OFC to bunk with him to help him sleep. That’s not going to turn into anything is it? Maybe sweet, maybe manipulative, maybe smut, maybe silly 😝

I think just for @mysterious-moonstruck-musings I’ll include a pomelo in one of my future fics. Might be in the Javier Peña one we talked about or a different one. �� We also mentioned another project idea with different food:

so in recent years i've mostly stopped posting wips bc, despite the best of intentions i have a hard time finishing them lol

buuut. looking through my drafts...

there are a couple i don't see myself working on again any time soon lmao.

two in particular stand out. one is a selkie!jason wip & the other is one that was, according to my notes, inspired by a fancomic. past me did not think to leave a link to this comic, bc she's helpful like that <3

the latter wip takes place at a winter gala. tim is by himself, keeping an eye on the others & making his rounds through the gala, checking off a mental list of people to talk to. he's kinda starting to flag, though; keeping up his timothy drake-wayne personality through so many conversations is kinda taking a toll on him.

and as he's mid conversation with one of the people on his list--

“Excuse me.” Tim catches a whiff of expensive cologne, chased by gunpowder, smoke, and leather. A warm hand finds the small of his back, and—almost without his own permission—he finds himself relaxing into it. “I hate to interrupt, but—” Jason steps into view, dressed to the nines in a perfectly fitted tux and deep red waistcoat. His hair is artfully messy; a roguish smile on his face. “Could I have this dance?” He cocks his brow. Tim knows him well enough to see the nerves—the sheepishness in his eyes, the way he braces himself for rejection. He doesn’t have anything to worry about. Tim is helplessly, hopelessly endeared. He barely manages to tamp down on his grin, keeping his answering smile something more polite.

their relationship at this point is still new and tentative--it started when one of their cases crossed, and each realized the other was working a lot of hard, dangerous cases with little to no back up. which was fine when they were doing it, but not so fine that the other is. u know. the usual :P

so they start working together. mostly. but then jason gets injured doing something dumb, without calling for tim like he should have. and tim reminds him that they'r partners. the whole point of them teaming up was that neither of them is supposed to be fighting alone anymore.

which---when tim asks why jason is at the gala, when he hates them & also has no reason to be there since he's not been legally resurrected... jason tells him more or less the same thing.

"we're partners, right? no more fighting alone."

and then tim kisses him in front of everyone, not caring even a little bit that it will probably be all over the society pages the next morning <3

but! i have two issues with this fic. issue a) writing the gala. and then issue b) it almost feels like it should be a scene in a longer work, so i can work that backstory in? but i don't... really have a plot. i could probably make it work anyway, but! i dunno. right now too many other wips have my attention so even if i don't abandon this one entirely, it will be a long time before i pick it back up.

and then the selkie!jason wip is p easy to explain. i had an idea for a single, solitary, poignant scene and utterly NO ideas for the plot that would lead UP TO that lovely scene.

so.

here's the scene, which would, theoretically, be the closing lines:

Jason runs his thumb over his coat, the leather of its disguise buttery soft, and watches Tim. He’s utterly at ease on Jason’s couch, scrolling through his phone, one arm dangling off the armrest. Jason swallows, stomach twisting with nerves. He takes a breath—in through the nose, out through the mouth. Then, he strides forward, clenching his coat a bit tighter. He kneels in front of Tim, capturing his attention. His phone falls to the side as Tim’s brows furrow. Before he can ask what Jason is doing, Jason unfurls his coat, wrapping it around Tim’s shoulders. His eyes grow wide. “Ja— wh—“ Jason can feel the heat on his face. Knows he has to be pink, at the very least. But he doesn’t stop, tugging Tim forward and into the briefest, chastest kiss before resting their foreheads together. “Caught you,” he murmurs. The smile he receives is the most beautiful thing he’s ever seen.

Hana shows affection physically, but also by doing stunts to try and impress you– skateboard tricks, eating weird combinations of foods, taking dares, etc. She really wants you to look up to her and think she’s cool. Hana will also try to be verbally affectionate and smooth, but ends up blushing and stuttering over her own words 2/3rds of the time 😭💕

Hana is a fun, adventurous best friend~! Trying out all the cool local restaurants, finding fun spots to hang out– parks, caves, etc. She also likes watching movies with you, especially horror movies (even though they legitimately scare her). She also loves having sleepovers with you and Mateo, and going to parties with the two of you (and probably Ace) as well. Hana wakes up bright and early and has to fight the urge to wake you up to playfight or go for a run together if you’re not a morning person. She’s also very excited for breakfast, Hana fucking LOVES breakfast foods, and Hunter makes a kickass continental breakfast.

Hana wants to lay down with you, cuddling and making out, tracing her fingers over your face and watching you lean into her touch~ Just very soft, and (perhaps unexpectedly) romantic~

Hana really tries to be upbeat and unbothered, bold in what she says, but she does hide some things about herself— in the sense that she’s always pretending to be tougher and less nervous than she is? The vulnerability to share her soft underbelly with you will come with time.

Hana remembers the first time she ever made you laugh the most fondly— the sound filled her heart to bursting and she couldn’t help but stare, cheeks warming at the angelic way you looked in that moment 💕

Hana gets an adrenaline rush when protecting you, and can definitely eviscerate whoever or whatever is physically threatening you, but the minute the threat is gone she’s shaking and clinging to you. Yes, Hana would be despondent. Her grief would really unlock some previously untapped wells of anger and aggression, and she would get lost in drinking and fighting.

Hana loves butterflies and moths, and has a collection of art from online and pictures she’s taken of them taped to her wall. She also has a lot of books and printed out research papers about them— their biology, migratory habits, and picture-filled atlases of which species live where 🥹💕

Hana doesn’t like it if you tease her too much, and make fun of her efforts to get stronger, and tougher. Hana sleeps in a tank top and sweatpants, and sometimes wears an eyemask to bed. She also doesn’t sleep very long at night, instead making it up with naps during the day. She has one stuffed animal that she’s kept since childhood and still sleeps with. It’s missing a button eye, and is a little worse for wear, but she loves that rabbit to death and plans to never part with it.

Maybe I’ve just lost my sense of time but it feels like forever since I last messaged you! And so many things have happened since then.

I’ve almost finished my last term paper from last semester! But it’s just taking some time still because I keep hanging out with my friends and family instead of writing 😅🙈

I’ve also started the new semester and I genuinely love all of my classes this semester! And work is finally going more smoothly again, too, now that the stress of exam and writing season is starting to wear off ☺️

And I’m still going to therapy and it’s genuinely so great?! Sometimes I wonder why I didn’t start doing this sooner cause damn it’s nice. I still remember seeing your therapy posts and thinking “maybe this isn’t actually scary 🤔” and damn I’m glad I’m tried it. Now I just gotta figure out how to get my health insurance to pay for it/pay me back. Which is annoying cause bureaucracy is just always such a unnecessarily difficult thing!

I’ve also started to finally figure out what to wear to the eras tour and I’m excited to see if my idea works out ☺️☺️

Also: my thoughts about that new paz fic are still going to be coming! But I’ve been so busy with stuff that I didn’t have time to sit down and properly write out my thoughts yet 😅 but I’m sure it’s gonna be great cause your writing is always amazing 🧡

That pic about Trunks and Yamcha got me thinking, like you just gave au ideas here 😃 like Yamcha being like a father figure to Trunks when Vegeta is MIA or off training somewhere. And that is so sweet that yamcha would send a birthday card to Trunks (I don't think Vegeta does any real domestic father son bonding in canon 🤔 ). And then there is another au idea where Vegeta getting jealous and trying to be more of a father to Trunks and a husband to Bulma where there will be awkward and hilarious situations happening 😆 and Vegeta eventually asking for tips and advice from yamcha but Yamcha is pretty much clueless to what was happening and just being a nice guy who always gives birthday cards, and holiday cards out to everyone 😁 sorry if this was long, just had to share this with you 😅😊

I just didn't know if I'd see them. And also I thought that it would have taken a few more posts by me on the subject.

I wasn't expecting the warm reception on that comic .. I would have put a bit more effort into crafting the pics if I had known #LOL.

Yamucha held Trunks as a baby more than Vegeta did. Vegeta SAID that he never held Trunks ONCE until he hugged him during the Majin Buu shit. This is a normal and common fact but I feel like if Trunks heard it phrased that way - that Yamucha held Trunks as a baby more than Vegeta did - then it would strike him a bit ... Because in his memory he obviously associates more with his father than with Yamucha, if he heard it phrased that way then it may register as "actually yamucha and I go way back and I just didn't remember" and then it would feel weird to keep treating yamucha like they dont know each other.

Yamucha sends cards becasue of course he does .. It was a practice that was started in a way that was kind of cheeky and more for Bulma's benefit than anything .. It's not uncommon that a baby will receive a gift that is more helpful to the parent than to the baby. So Yamucha sending a baby a birthday card as if it can read was, in his opinion, really funny. Also his way of responding to the fact that He Did Not Receive an Invitation to the baby's First Birthday Party (Bulma just didn't send any out... everyone should KNOW that there's gonna be a party :eye rolling emoji:). Other than that, Yamucha usually does manage to arrive at the birthday parties, but he doesn't always bring gifts (or gifts that are cool to anyone but himself), and sometimes he shows up late, and sometimes he gets drunk with the adults before even having a chance to see the kid (and of course it's more fun for Trunks to do literally anything else on his special day than talk to adults), so, the card is just something Yamucha always does as a back-up / commitment to the bit.

But yknow. Vegeta never even says "happy birthday" to the little guy. And that's fine because that's just the way he is and he expresses love in other ways and Trunks loves him too and this is just how they do it, this is the language of affection that is unique to Vegeta and it's fine because Trunks has learned how to speak it, BUT, YKNOW, there's potential for a story of Trunks discovering how Nice it is to have an adult just be NICE and WARM to him, easily, and who will give him attention without being asked to in contexts other than training and improving oneself.

I used to think about a similar thing when musing about Trunks's Uncle Tarble, but that was specifically when Trunks goes through his tumultuous teen years, and he appreciates the fact that someone is willing to appreciate him as he is and without needing him to be better. Whereas I feel like Yamcuha could be / would be a beneficial presence in Trunks's life when he's a younger kid, and he really just needs to warmth of a parent.

Trunks's parents are doing fine given everything, but it takes a village to raise a kid, and Yamucha is a part of that village.

BACK TO YOUR ASK: THE SECOND AU: OMG THAT'S SO SILLY... the thing is I thought of a similar thing in my Tarble Days, where everyone loves Tarble because he's nice and considerate, and Vegeta literally concedes defeat and asks Tarble How He Can Be A Better Presence For His Family. But it's a totally different vibe if it's Yamucha .. like there are similarities (tarble & yamucha both Suck in Vegeta's eyes) but there are differences in that .....

Yamucha has known Bulma for longer and is a human himself and maybe he's just more naturally in-touch...?

Maybe there's something about Trunks's human side that Vegeta just isn't speaking to...?

Maybe Vegeta STILL doesn't understand family even after all of this time...?

But what is he to do ... have movie night with them? He hates movies. Talk to his wife more? He hates talking. Hold his son's hand more? One time he saw Yamucha holding Trunks's hand and Trunks's tiny hand completely disappeared in Yamucha's garage of a fist and Vegeta didn't know how he was supposed to feel about that ... He looked at his own hands and wondered if they would be good enough.....

Vegeta trying to have movie night with his family to prove that He Can but he just sits there with his arms crossed the whole time & it doesn't seem like he's enjoying it and it just doesn't suit him .. and it makes it all More Awkward for everyone else..

Anyway. I like to think that Yamucha IS aware of the ways that he is a nice presence for Trunks, just because he's good with kids the way that a fun uncle is, and becasue he's older and wiser than he used to be and he can read people better than he used to .. and he knows more about what's needed by the soul and body and mind ....

HOWEVER. He doesn't realize that Vegeta would look at the friendship that he has with Bulma as something that Vegeta needs to learn from. And though Yamucha knows Bulma & Vegeta pretty well and can parse out what Trunks is missing at home based on that and Trunks's behaviors, he's not actually a parent himself & he has no intentions of being one anytime soon & he doesnt think about it that hard & so he doesnt know that when he lets Trunks come over with Goten to make roasted chestnuts and watch Caddyshack (1980) at his cabin, that that's something that makes Vegeta feel insecure in his role and value as a father.

So YEAH. Vegeta would confront Yamucha and ask him how he can Be Better, and Yamucha would be like "....HUH?"

Yamucha would scratch his head and roll his shoulders and eventually manage to express: "Well... Have you tried just talking to your family? And, like, listening?"

and Vegeta would either blow that off as an unhelpful suggestion OR be so embarrassed that it was that simple all along that he'd walk away in shame.
