The description 'large' implies that they're in the same size class as guardians, imperials, ridgebacks, gaolers, and obelisks, and after clicking through a bunch that've been scrolled into undertides that does seem to be the case.

He'd broken it, of course, after slurping down the kicking back end of a S.colpiede to add to the mass of P.okemon stewing and bubbling away in his bloated gut. But it seems he went to far. The twenty or so people who had been happily feeding their P.okemon to the gym leader not got to watch as M.ilo let out sickly belches and groans while trying to sooth his stuffed gut. Bulges of squirming beasts inside gave everyone a wonderful show of seeing his belly process so much live meat. In fact, as an extra reward for helping him beat the record (and mostly to help him deal with that protesting belly), he let the people that sacrificed their P.okemon to his guts to rub as well. With so many hands rubbing and kneading and pressing down on his gut, it helped it work much better, and all those squirming bulges steadily shrink and soften up as they're thoroughly processed. A finally booming belch that would ring out through the field of the gym finally signaled that M.ilo's stomach had settled and done its job as usual. The gym leader got a round of applause as he set to work on sending the helpful trainers home with his own brand of manure. He couldn't do much about teams getting mixed up, though, but he made sure each trainer got 6 bags of the muck to cart home for their own uses, each one filled with whatever was left of their once beloved Pokemon. They're currently fighting for their lives, likely hoping in some vain effort that L.eon will come and save them before they can be digested. But R.ose is in his private quarters and there's no chance the champion will make it here before they can be saved. The chairman licks his lips again as he watches the P.okemon's futile attempts of escaping his gut, pushing and roaring as they fought to resist it. Stealing them off L.eon had been surprisingly easy. eating them all had been even easier. Surely with them out of the way, L.eon won't be able to fight at all, and then the two of them can sit down and really talk--no interruptions. Of course, that'll have to wait for later--for now, R.ose has a lot of processing to get done. It took a few hours but eventually, everything settled in. Even that roaring Charizard went soft on him, bubbling away into sludge like the rest of that team. R.ose lets loose another crass belch and pats his stomach. He does love it when things stay on a good schedule. Speaking of which, he'd be busy passing the whole lot of them come that evening, just before his rendezvous with L.eon. He was hoping to finish up before the man arrived, but the champion walked in just before he could be done. L.eon would walk in just in time to see his C.harizard's skull spreading the chairman's ass, adding to the mountain of dung the rest of the team had turned into. R.ose would quickly stand up straight and adjust his outfit, which hugged his fattened frame far too tightly. He puts on a professional smile as if the he didn't just take the biggest crap in his life. "L.eon, so good to see you. We have much to talk about. And I ensured there would be no interruptions. I hope you understand."

Being one of the oldest of the gym leaders, only beaten out by one other, K.abu was seen almost as a figure of authority among his peers despite the fact that he's not a native to the region. It was nice and he tried to keep their spirits up with his usual fiery personality. Of course, behind closed doors, he's training harder than all of them in an effort to remain on top. He wants to some day beat L.eon and he has to keep himself moving at 110% in order to do that. One of the ways he was doing that was...stomach training. He wanted to match his P.okemon and their furance-like guts in digestive prowess. the best way to do that is to send P.okemon down the hatch over and over until he was melting them at record times. Today, he was sitting in the locker room of his gym after a match, using a sauna he had in an effort to help his training. He'd taken the trainers he beat today aside and gotten their teams off of them one after another, and now he was able to spend a good few hours training his stomach on their weaker P.okemon. They went down the hatch one after another, each too tired to fight back against the predatory gym leader guzzling them down. K.abu's stomach steadily expands over time as his belly processes the P.okemon and pumps them away. By the time he was swallowing the last one, a hefty R.illaboom from a trainer that thought mindless grinding could be strategy, his guts had mulched, melted, and pumped the P.okemon away in just under ten minutes with a steamy belch all that it had to show for its life. By now, he had a pile of empty Pokeballs on the bench next to him, and his belly rested in his lap as a heavy pot gut that squished and wobbled whenever he moved. The gym leader was contemplating how to work all the new weight off when a sharp groan reminded him of the consequences of eating so much meat. He threw off his towel and squatted down in the center of the sauna, wincing as his body began to vacate the mass of waste his training had caused. By the end of it, he'd left a massive pile of crap sitting in the center of the sauna, filled with bones from the various P.okemon sacrificed to his belly. If he hadn't been sweating already, he certainly would be after that. He'll have to get someone to clean this all up for him...but he can't say he wasn't pleased with the end results. Now his gut would burn as bright as him.

SEASON 5, EPISODE 204

As the party enter the main room they find the table laid with a mediocre breakfast, however at each place setting there is also a parcel, wrapped in brown paper and with a note card laid on top. WILDE, already sat at the table, has clearly already opened his parcel, then hastily stuffed it back into the wrapping to appear polite. He turns to grin excitedly at HAMID, who shoots him a quizzical look.

WILDE: I think it's our lucky day!

HAMID: Oh?

AZU: Huh?

CEL: Ooh!

HAMID: Well, that's exciting!

CEL: Is that like a thing that we, uh, that, like, we, like- Are all the presents for, for, for us? Uh, do we-

ZOLF steps past HAMID, impatient rather than aggressive. He squeezes WILDE once on the shoulder, then takes a seat beside him. The rest of the party clearly take this as their cues to begin to sit at the parcels with their own name cards.

WILDE: It turns out that Augusta does actually have a role here, beyond just annoyance, which is quartermaster. So, Barret may have been sent out to fetch some things... for us?

HAMID: Oh!

ZOLF: Right.

HAMID: So, not 100% useless, that's nice! C-c-can we open them now?

WILDE shrugs - how should he know? - then makes a gesture of 'yeah, go for it' to the table.

AZU (BEAMING): Let's all open them together!

HAMID: How exciting!

HAMID leans slightly across the table, as if he's about to say something to SKRAAK, but they're already tearing into their present. From his package he removes a sturdy leather belt, studded, and buckled, with adamantine. They immediately put it on.

WILDE takes this to mean it's alright for him to re-open his own gift. He hurriedly shoves off the paper and pulls out a set of glimmering robes. They're an iridescence white, complete with a ruffle around the neck, and entirely covered in shimmering rainbow script. The text shifts, in a way that clearly marks it out as magical.Everyone pauses for a moment to look at WILDE, whose grin could split his face. It's been a while since they've seen him this happy. 

HAMID: Oh, Oscar, those are magnificent!

ZOLF (WITH A SMALL, SOFT GRIN): You are gonna look ridiculous, Wilde.

WILDE beams smugly down at ZOLF.

WILDE: I am going to look magnificent.

WILDE shakes the robes out, and a miasma of illusory glitter hits ZOLF in the face. ZOLF scowls dramatically at a laughing WILDE.

Still unfolding the robes, WILDE turns his attention to AZU, whose parcel is by far the largest. She is carefully unfolding it, grinning face barely visible about the huge package. Inside is a golden agile breast plate. As it shimmers in the light it becomes apparent that it is covered in the same kind of shifting magical scrawl as WILDE's robe.

Attached is a note that AZU reads aloud. Despite being busy with their own gifts, everyone turns as she does.

AZU: Whatever you do, don't use this inside.

This receives a round of curious looks from the table. HAMID and CEL lean in to get a better look at the armour.

AZU reaches out to turn the breast plate over in her hands, and as she does the text starts to fill in. Beginning at her hands, the shifting text slowly begins to run through with glowing pink, until the plate is more pink than gold. It's as bright as AZU's armour was on Hades' plane. The pink begins to settle, and as it does the magic text stops shifting. With a soft hum, it settles into Arabic scripture: the fundamental teachings of Aphrodite.

AZU beams with delight.

AZU: Ooh! Do you think- Do you think that don't use it means don't wear it? Or do you think I sh- could put it on but I can't get hit?

HAMID opens his mouth as if to refute them, but then decides to drop it. AZU carefully takes her hands off the armour - it remains pink.

HAMID, next to AZU, unwraps a long metal pole. As soon as he retrieves it from the wrapping paper gold lines begin to emanate from his hand and down the pole. They curl and flicker like flames.

Something alights in HAMID's eyes as he holds it. His hand that clutches the pole begins to sharpen and elongate, twisting into a clawed grasp. The once single point of his ears is now three, giving the impression of a reptilian ruffle. No one, not even HAMID, seems to notice.

CEL unwraps a pair of diamond lenses. They're scuffed around the edges, dusted with the debris of whatever they've been hacked out of.

CEL immediately pulls their alchemists goggles from their head, slips the lenses out, and inserts the new ones. At first it seems as though they won't fit, but as CEL begins to apply pressure they resize and slide in with ease.

ZOLF has been very carefully unwrapping his package - unknotting the string and unfolding the paper. Folded at the centre of his parcel is a thick, smoothly woven, grey cloak.

WILDE watches with curiosity as ZOLF reaches out to touch the fabric. Instantly a small smile toys at the corner of his lips. He glances across the table, making eye contact with HAMID, and widens the smile to a grin. HAMID, though taken off guard, smiles back with slightly sharpened teeth. ZOLF has turned back to the cape before he can notice.

Everyone is now chatting, inaudibly, absorbed in their gifts. CEL and SKRAAK are excitedly showing off their new accessories to each other, AZU runs her fingers over the text on her armour, ZOLF gently unfolds his cloak, WILDE has now donned his robes and is leaning back languidly in his chair. The text has stopped shifting, and has now settled as Gaeilge scripture - WILDE's 'inspire courage' performance, scrawled across his robes in rainbow ink. HAMID looks around at all of them, unable to contain his excitement at seeing all of his friends so happy.

WILDE: Well, it's nice to be appreciated again for a change-

A brief pause and a glance at ZOLF, as if he's expecting a gentle elbow to the ribs, but none comes. ZOLF is too busy smoothing out the cloak, preparing to put it on.

WILDE: Don't know about all of you.

Finally looking away from his gift, ZOLF notices that WILDE's hair is caught in his ruffle. He stands and swings the cloak quickly over his shoulders. Then, with a frustrated grunt of 'c'mere,' he shuffles behind WILDE's seat and begins to gently extract his hair from his collar. He murmurs something inaudible to WILDE, though we assume it's something nice, as it swaps WILDE's smug smile for a genuine one.

HAMID watches, grin now spreading far past the confines of his mouth. All sounds of the room begin to fade out. CEL laughs without sound. AZU pays a silent compliment to SKRAAK. WILDE tips his head back to say something to ZOLF.

Then, with a pained hiss, HAMID collapses forward, clawed hands gripping the edge of the table.

Suddenly the room is LOUD. Cries of 'Hamid!' 'What's wrong?' 'You alright?'

WILDE grips ZOLF's hand to his shoulder, now sitting bolt upright. SKRAAK is already looking round for an enemy. AZU reaches out to place a hand on HAMID's back, but as she does so the fabric of his suit begins to writhe. Two small holes are torn as brassy talons claw their way out of HAMID's back. SweetSyn’s Guide To Etsy

(I will add more as I learn more) 

When I officially started my Etsy in 2018, I had no idea what I was doing. I’ve constantly had people asking me what tips I had for getting started. Unfortunately, I told them you needed a following to make sales. Boy was I wrong. SEO is the key. Buckle up, I’m going to learn you a few things. (I’m Texan don’t judge me for that sentence.)

“Search Engine Optimization”, which is the reason when you search for something on Etsy, you see a bunch of bland titles. Being Creative with titles will only hurt you. You need to have targeted, keyword-based titles and tags, to make sure you end up at the top of the food chain. 

Listing Titles

This part is long due to the fact that I never knew how important this was.

The best way to do this is to start typing in what you’re selling into the Etsy search bar. Any related autocomplete phrases that are related to the pop-up list, is what should be in your title. (Keyword 1 - Keyword 2 - Keyword 3 - Keyword 4) and so forth. For example, I simply clicked on the search bar and it gave me a list of the current most popular searches. One of them was marble earrings, and the first listing had the best selling badge. Their title was “Handmade Polymer Clay Marble Triangle Earrings | Minimalist Geometric Earrings | Hypoallergenic Surgical Steel Stud | Multiple Size”. The second listing, from another shop, was “Marble Stud Earrings, Marble Jewelry, Round Stud Earrings, Wedding Stud Earrings, Marble Studs, Statement Studs, Minimalist Studs”. 

I know how tempting it is to come up with a clever name for your listing, but Etsy doesn’t like that. Putting a long title full of keywords makes it more likely for someone to see your listing without searching through 240 pages. Yes, there were exactly 240 pages of marble earrings. The last one, way at the end was simply titled “Rosé Marble Earrings”. I don’t know about you, but I have no idea how to put that little mark over the ‘e’ when typing on a computer. 

The second part of this is being more specific than just ‘marble earrings’. If someone is looking for something more specific than marble earrings they’re going to search more of what they want. This is how you separate yourself from everyone else on those 240 pages. The two listings I found were round studs and the other was geometric triangles. Maybe I hate circles, and I specifically want triangles, so I search “marble triangle earrings”. That’s in the title of the first listing, I’m going to find that listing. 

DO NOT PUT YOUR SKU’S IN YOUR TITLES! You will lose sales because of this. Your title is very important, no one is going to be searching “866798Q”

Additionally, Etsy will not show more than one or two items per seller on any given page of search results. That way smaller shops have a bit more of a chance. Make sure you’re targeting different keywords per listing, or you’ll be competing with yourself. 

After a few months, go into your listing analytics to see which keywords are getting that listing more views. You may find that your main keyword, or the first few words in your title, isn’t working as well as another one. If something is working better, make it the first part of the title, and you should even more views. 

Adding titles in other languages will not help your listing. Etsy automatically translates for other languages. 

I’ve seen a few people say that Etsy has changed and that they don’t like ‘title stuffing’. However, that’s not the case in what I’ve seen. The entire first two pages of marble earrings were nothing but long ‘stuffed’ titles. 

This is a comment from an admin of one of the Etsy Facebook groups I’m in, he is a social media marketer: 

“YES title stuffing is bad and you should not do it, because Etsy & Google do not count that as quality SEO.

However, we must first understand exactly what "Title Stuffing or Keyword Stuffing" really is.

Keyword stuffing is when someone fills a webpage (in this case an Etsy title) with the same keywords they want to rank for, over and over again in hopes that the more times they use the keywords the more relevant Etsy and Google will see their page or listing.”

“Now as far as your Etsy title goes you should absolutely use your keywords, but not repeated over and over again, while also keeping a non-robotic tone.

2 examples of title stuffing:

1. Title stuffing for one specific keyword, example (baby shirt): Cute Baby Shirt | Baby Shirt | Boy Baby Shirt | Soft Baby Shirt | Matching Baby Shirt | Baby Shirt Gift

Basically stuffing the same word over and over again.

2. Title stuffing for the maximum keywords: Comfy Baby Shirt, comfortable, for boys, for girls, gifts, cheap, organic, cotton, romper, jumpsuits, newborn, baby clothes

Both of these examples are using spammy tricks to rank high. But this will not work and both Etsy and Google will ignore you.

You want your title to sound fluent and not like a robot while using your keywords.

Also, you want to avoid changing up your titles too much, because your listings SEO needs to season a bit for maximum effectiveness.”

Tags 

A major thing that I have learned over this process is that your tags must be written in sentences and not individual words. For example instead of marble, earring, earrings, geometric, geometrical, your tags should be Marble Earrings, Studded Earrings, Geometric Jewelry. MOST IMPORTANTLY! Use ALL 13 tags! Think about what makes your product unique, you don’t need to repeat categories and attributes. You also don’t need to use the same keywords as your title, unless you want to highlight a certain keyword. Tags and titles that do not relate to your listing, can have a negative impact on your visibility. 

Fill out everything you can on the listing, such as categories and attributes, which also act like tags. The more you fill out the more likely someone will find your listings. 

Adding tags in other languages will not help your listing. Etsy automatically translates for other languages. 

Pricing

Be mindful of everyone else’s prices, customers are not only going to look for quality, but also the best deal. Though, you don’t want to end up making a negative profit. 

Cost of goods (per product) + Profit (I like to do the cost of supplies x2) + Shipping (if you’re doing free shipping)  = Price

The reason I double the dost of supplies for my profit is for in case something goes wrong, I still made a little money for my time. You made need to adjust this to compete with other sellers.  

Shipping

Etsy gives priority to listings with free shipping in the search results, it also sounds a bit better to the customer. Don’t worry you won’t lose out on money by offering it, all you have to do is include the shipping cost in the price. 

However, if you do plan on offering international shipping, I recommend charging for it. I live in Texas, and it costs $8 dollars to ship a sticker to Canada. Whereas shipping to Maine only costs 70 cents. 

Play around with shipping options, it took me a long time to learn that sending stickers as a letter, instead of a package or flat envelope, is MUCH cheaper. The downside, there is no tracking number. So I only recommend this for items that are very cheap to remake. 

Photos

Your product photo is the first thing that is going to be seen when someone is searching for an item. I made the major mistake of not caring what my photos looked like for the longest time. From lazily taking a screenshot of my Cricut design space for a decal listing, to setting my mugs on my tacky paint-covered table. Don’t do this, make your photos look professional. Now I’m not saying go hire a photographer to take your photos. Simply lining a bix with paper, or draping a sheet over a chair can create a perfect backdrop.  

Put your best photo first. 

A 2017 survey showed that 90% of Etsy shoppers said the photo quality was very important in their decision making. Think about it as, if you don’t take the time for quality photos, that most likely means you’re not taking the time to make quality products. 

When posting your photos on the web browser version of Etsy, your image needs to be at least 2000 pixels wide. A simple way to fix this, the way I do, is resizing the photo in Paint 3D or a photo editor. Another way is simply making the listing on the mobile app because it won’t have that requirement. 

Description

I don’t know if this is true, but I’ve heard it from a few people, repeat your title in the description. 

This is yet another thing I struggled with. I felt that the title said enough, what more was there to explain about a car decal, other than the size? Well, a lot. Now I’m not saying be one of those annoying recipe pages, that gives their life story before getting to the ingredients and the actual recipe. Just make sure it tells exactly what the customer expects to receive. 

Don’t copy someone else’s description, develop your own voice. Give all the details you can about your product, because just like policies, this can save you from something going wrong. The customer isn’t able to touch your product and get a full feel of what it is. A well-written description can be the make or break of a sale. 

Play 20 questions with yourself. 

Reviews

You’re bound to get a bad review at some point. Don’t let it be the thing that shuts you down, and ruins your shop. Message the customer and see what you can do to change their review. If you can’t change it, don’t worry. Learn and improve from it. When looking at reviews, I hardly ever take the negative ones seriously, unless there’s a lot of them. If you have 50 good reviews and 5 negatives, you’re going to be okay. 

Sometimes you have to take the hit and lose some profit. Say their package gets lost in the mail, and there’s nothing that can be done about it. You may have to refund them or send them another. Something I’ve always done to keep customers happy, if something goes wrong I send a small freebie with the replacement. Usually, it’s something extra that I have laying around. 

Marketing

Social Media is your best friend! Use everything you can, and HASHTAGS! HASHTAGS! HASHTAGS! Before I even started TikTok or Etsy, I wanted to have a huge Instagram following. I ended up with 1,000 followers, just by using a ton of hashtags. No matter what site you’re using, if it allows you, use every hashtag under the sun. This is where you can get extra with it, especially Instagram and Tumblr where you don’t have a limit. Just make sure you separate it from your caption. 

Using social media to grow a following can help so much! I would never have made it through 2020 without my following. Seeing a more personal side of you can help a lot, and you’ll even make some amazing friends along the way! The most rewarding thing is when you’re told you inspired someone to start making arts and crafts or living their dream. 

Other Information

Make sure your policies are clear. If you do not offer refunds or returns, and a customer reports you for not refunding them, this will save you!  

Experiment with things, see what works best for you! Having a following and ignoring all of this worked for me for two years. Eventually, my TikTok views dwindled, meaning sales went with it.

The more items you have listed, the more likely you are to be seen. Try to post something new once a month. Additionally, the more you have the more likely someone that found exactly what they wanted, will buy more from you. If they see something else they like while looking at one item, you’re making more money.

Categories are much easier to do on a web browser. All you have to do is type in what your listing and it will give you suggestions. Mobile Etsy is nearly impossible to figure out where to list decals and stickers. You’d never guess to look in electronics, would you?

And please do not try and look at it behind my back” she hung it up, it’s covered so I can’t see it “so you all packed or you got more?” I am confused on what she actually takes with her “erm, that is Reign’ suitcase, that is mine and that is yours! You do that yourself, thanks” pulling a face “I won’t need a case, I buy things on the go so there” Robyn huffed out and walked off “you know what Maurice, I will pack for you” that is what I wanted to happen in the first place, I wanted Robyn to do it for me. I stifled out a yawn while rubbing my eye, I have just woke up to Robyn doing this, it’s nerve wracking. I have a lot to happen to me while there, Ally is flying out with us. Robyn actually said she is invited to come, obviously she is with Jay so why not “Reign is crying, or did your mind just shut off?” looking over at Robyn “you know when you put on your bonnet, you act out. He did call me and said you are coming; I go of course we are. I am on the fence in regards to telling him, I am not sure or maybe I don’t want to say it to him, it’s hurtful” rubbing my chin nodding my head “but I was thinking, he is in rehab. The best place he can be, so if he was to want drugs or want to act out he can’t? He will have the support there, I think I am going to say it to him so he can heal while he is there, so when he comes out he will have us there. I will support Malik as long as he supports me and is good to me, but I don’t see him fucking up again, do you?” Nalah shook her head “he has learnt, he said actually. The hate I have for these places runs deep but here I am for Malik “how has he been?” I asked the worker walking us, it’s not the same person we saw last time “he is ok, he wanted to shave his hair again, so he is bald again. We told him that we liked the hair, nope. He said shave all bald, but he is in a good mood” shaving your hair is a sense of cleansing yourself, I did that. Staring at the party hat “like who’s idea was this?” looking at Nalah, I know she probably said get this shit “not me, just put it on” what on earth are these two on with this shit, putting the party hat on “so we doing it all then? Even the happy birthday?” watching Nalah hold the cake as both of them sang happy birthday, I can’t help but laugh “one candle huh” Nalah stood in front of me with the cake “happy birthday dear Maurice, happy birthday to you!!” Malik shouted, I cooed out “thank you” closing my eyes before blowing the candle out “wow, Malik. It’s weighing heavy on my mind; I feel bad but then I also know he is in that place and hasn’t ran off to be stupid. I got this cake with me; I feel like shit. Placing the cake on the coffee table “how did it go? What is this?” Robyn asked “Malik celebrated my birthday, he bought me cake” I said feeling so defeated “awww really? That is so cute” Robyn shuffled from the couch to look “where is my face!?” she questioned “in my stomach, I ate it” sitting next to Robyn “you are so ugly for that so how did it go? Not well? You look sad” rubbing my chin “it went well, everything was ok. He was happy to see us; he did that for me which honestly made me happy. He was smiling a lot too, wore a stupid party hat. Then I told him the truth about dad, and he didn’t take it well, I ruined his world. I know I did; he holds so much anger, punching the wall shouting why me. Then he told the workers to sedate him. I just think the best place was there, out here he could go to drugs, did I do bad?” looking over at Robyn “that is sad but no matter how you said it to him, it would have been hard but at that place would be best for you to tell and also his safety, that is so sad. I am sorry” Robyn placed her head on my shoulder, I hope he is ok.

Thanksgiving was the only time Maggie allowed Zoey to "help" in the kitchen. There was so much to prepare and do that she needed all hands on deck.

David and Emily were off the hook for helping since they had their hands full with Peter. He had started teething recently and was having trouble being soothed. Which, of course, meant that David and Emily were both exhausted. 

Zoey finished getting the table set, while Maggie basted the turkey and Max worked on mashing the potatoes.

"Anything else I can help with Mom?" She asked, looking to make sure she hadn't missed anything.

Maggie glanced up, "No, I think we're good. Why don't you just sit and keep us company?"

"Sure, I can do that," she reached for a chair at the island when she heard Peter begin to cry.

"Why don't I go offer them a break," Zoey left the kitchen, and headed upstairs. She knocked on the door to David's old room. He opened the door looking exhausted and holding a crying Peter.

"Gimme," Zoey said, holding out her hands.

David breathed a sigh of relief as he handed him over. "Here's his teether. He can have some Motrin in about an hour if he's still a mess "

Peter had stopped crying as soon as he was in his Aunt's arms. He was watching her hair as it bounced up and down when she nodded at David.

"Come on, Peter, let's go see what Grandma and Uncle Max are up to," she said cheerfully.

Even in his exhausted state David looked at her oddly, "Something you haven't told us?"

"Huh?" Zoey wrinkled her nose in confusion.

"Uncle Max? I don't see a ring there?" David nodded at her bare left hand.

Zoey turned bright red, "Just a slip of the tongue."

David chuckled, "Relax, Sis. He's practically family, anyway, I'm just teasing you. Actually, I wanted to run something by you. It’s just Emily and I were talking about it, and we were wondering if you and Max would be Peter's godparents." 

"Godparents? As in?"

"More like you get to be his extra special Aunt and Uncle."

"Are you saying that you don't think I'm special enough?" Zoey teased. 

"Yeah yeah, you know what I mean. It also means that Emily and I would name you guys Peter's legal guardians in case something ever happens to us."

"Oh, David," Zoey reached out to grasp his hand. "Of course I will. Though, you should be the one to tell Max. I think it would mean a lot coming from you."

"Of course. Thanks Zo, it's important to us that he's in good hands." 

Zoey leaned in and hugged him as tight as she could while holding Peter.

"Now go on, some of us need to try and nap," David said, waving her off.

"Look who I escaped with!" Zoey laughed as she entered the kitchen, bouncing Peter up and down excitedly.

Maggie grinned, stopping long enough to drop a kiss on her grandson's head.

"Are your toothies bothering you again?” She glanced at his red and tear stained cheeks. "Poor guy. Here, Grandma knows what to do." Maggie reached into the freezer and pulled out a frozen washcloth.

Zoey took it and held it up to Peter. Peter grabbed it, shoving a corner of it into his mouth and began sucking away. 

"Is that better? Grandma’s pretty smart like that," Zoey said, smiling at him.

She walked over to where Max was getting the stuffing ready for the oven.

She smiled as he dropped a kiss on her forehead. "Hey, buddy," he said to Peter. "Hanging out with Auntie Zo? Can't say I blame you, she's pretty cool."

Zoey laughed, "I thought we had already established how not cool we are."

Max grinned, "Ah but Peter doesn't have a concept of cool yet, so anything you do is cool enough for him."

Zoey shook her head. "Peter, your Uncle Max is being ridiculous."

Max whipped his head up and looked at her. She didn't seem to realize what she had just said.

Zoey started humming as she swayed back and forth with Peter. She glanced at Max who was looking at her with something akin to awe on his face.

“Max, honey? Are you okay?”

Max grinned and nodded at her. “I’m fine, babe. Just thinking about something.”

Zoey nodded and turned back to Peter who was starting to fall asleep in her arms. 

Maggie came over and held out her arms for him, “I’ll take him back to David. Max, can you just keep an eye on things?”

“Of course. I won’t let Zoey anywhere near the stove,” he said, tossing a wink her way. Maggie chuckled and left with Peter.

Zoey made a face at him, swatting his hands away when he attempted to placate her with a hug.

“Nope, you’re being mean!” she chastised, turning her back to him.

Max wrapped his arms around her waist, “I’m just teasing you, sweetheart. I love that you’re a terrible cook. It gives me the chance to cook for you.” 

Zoey leaned back against him. “Well, I do love it when you cook for me,” she admitted, begrudgingly.

Max chuckled, he turned her in his arms and gave her a soft kiss.

Max pulled away to check on the food.

Zoey took a seat, enjoying the view of him bending over to open the oven. She let out a small whistle.

Max glanced back at her and shook his head with a grin. 

“What can I say? I enjoy the view,” Zoey cheekily said.

“Mmm I see, you only want me for my body,” he teased.

Zoey watched, entranced as Max began to shake his hips to a nonexistent beat.

He turned around, and catching the direction of her gaze, he tossed a wink at her as he began to sing

Zoey couldn't stop the laugh that escaped her as Max pulled her against him, continuing the song.

Max pulled back and looked at her face flushed with laughter. "Sorry, I can't remember how the rest of the song goes," Max said, shrugging.

Zoey started laughing again as she pulled him down to kiss him.

"What's so funny?" Max asked between kisses.

"Nothing, you're just cute," Zoey grinned.

Maggie came back into the kitchen, smiling as she saw the happy couple laughing. She felt a pang in her chest as she wished that Mitch was there to see how happy Zoey was. 

They pulled apart, blushing as they realized Maggie had been watching them.

Maggie waved them off. "Looks like everything is about ready. So, let's get it on the table and we can all eat."

The family, minus Peter who was still sleeping, gathered around the table.There was a slight air of sadness to the meal. It was the first of the big holidays that they would be facing without Mitch. David carved the turkey and they toasted in memory of Mitch.

While they ate, they shared stories and memories of Thanksgivings past.

 Max chuckled as Maggie described the year that Zoey was insistent that they eat only what Snoopy had served in the Peanuts Thanksgiving special.

"She was 5 and so very stubborn," Maggie laughed. "And she stood there telling Mitch that he was wrong, that we didn't need a Turkey for thanksgiving, but instead needed jelly beans,  toast, popcorn, pretzels and ice cream sundaes. And you know how Mitch was, so of course he goes out and braves the grocery store the day before Thanksgiving to get everything on Zoey's list."

Zoey flushed, taking a drink of her wine to cover her embarrassment. 

"Luckily, Mom managed to convince Zoey that we could have regular Thanksgiving for dinner, and Snoopy's Thanksgiving for breakfast instead." David chimed in. "Plus, it kept her out of everyone's hair when the inevitable sugar crash happened. She was a menace in the kitchen from an early age."

Zoey wadded up her napkin and threw it at David, hitting him in the face.

"Hey, ow! Mom!!"

Poe rubbed his jaw tiredly and stared at the bare living room wall. There’d been a painting on it, once; a week ago, actually. But then everything had changed, seemingly overnight, and now the painting and the person who’d made it were soon to vacate this apartment, leaving Poe with nothing but empty walls and an empty heart. 

The sounds of packing had stalled in the other room, and Poe cleared his throat and continued wrapping the glasses sitting out in front of him on the coffee table. It wasn’t that he was excited that Rey was moving out - he was gutted, actually, but he also didn’t want her packing all by herself. His hands shook as he wrapped the glasses, and he kept blinking away tears.

How did this happen? 

Things had been good, better than good, perfect, and then they weren’t - two weeks ago, Rey had started to pull away from him, recoiling from his every touch and attempt to kiss her, and six days ago she’d declared that she was moving out, and they were over. He’d come home from work to find boxes cluttering the floor of the apartment they’d moved into less than a year ago, and Rey had handed him a check for her half of the rent for the next two months. 

She hadn’t wanted to talk about it - “It’s too…it hurts too much, I’m sorry,” she’d sobbed when he asked - and Poe didn’t know what else to do, so here he was, on a Saturday morning, reluctantly helping the love of his life pack her things so she could leave him.

He couldn’t keep going suddenly, and Poe wiped his hands over his face, his shoulders trembling. 

“Poe?” He turned at the sound of his name, already half-smiling so she wouldn’t feel bad that he was sobbing on their - his - couch, and he froze when he saw her.

Rey was standing in the doorway to the living room, her too-big sweater hitting her mid-thigh, and it had once been his sweater, one she’d stolen and worn so often that it had become hers, and Poe couldn’t really focus on that distracting fact, not when he saw what she was holding.

“Rey, I-” He stumbled to his feet and struggled to find the right words to say.

“What is this?” Rey held the small, velvet box up, and Poe’s throat closed up, preventing him from speaking right away. She flipped the lid of the box open, and the silver of Shara Bey’s ring shone in the light streaming in through the window. “Poe, what the hell is this?”

“It’s” - he rubbed his neck and squeezed his eyes shut. “I can explain.”

“Please do.” Rey sounded fairly upset, so Poe cleared his throat.

“I was…you know how we had reservations for tomorrow night? We made them a month or so ago?”

“For our anniversary, yes.” Rey’s voice was flat now, and Poe winced, unable to stomach the thought that Rey was going to officially move out on what would have been their two year anniversary. 

“Yeah, um.” He glanced at her but looked away just as quickly, back at the bare wall. “I was planning on….you know. After. We’d go to dinner where we had our first date, and then we’d walk on the pier where we had our first kiss, and I was going to…shit. I’d been planning for a few months now, and, I just, fuck, I obviously wasn’t going to bring it up now, but-”

“Why not?” Rey demanded, and Poe looked at her for real this time, stared at her incredulously.

“Are you kidding me?” He laughed bitterly, and it didn’t sound like him. “You - you tell me we’re over, pack your things up, and I’m supposed to - to what, beg, pathetically?” He’d considered it honestly. “Tell you don’t go, I was going to ask you to marry me?” Poe shook his head disbelievingly. “Seriously Rey, I’m not that petty. I wouldn’t try to manipulate you into staying when you clearly don’t want me-”

“I thought you were cheating on me.” Rey whispered it, staring at the ground, her cheeks flushed. Poe’s stomach dropped out. “Well, maybe not - I didn’t think you’d physically cheat, but - your phone, it, it buzzed two weeks ago while you were in the shower, so I grabbed it because you said you were worried about your dad’s flight, and I thought it was him. And it was a woman,” Andrea, Poe connected the dots, his stomach continuing to twist unpleasantly, “And she said how nice it was to see you that day, and thanks for lunch, and how excited she was to see you again, and when I asked you what you’d done that day, you…you said…”

“I told you that I’d gotten lunch with Finn.” Poe nodded, his jaw clenched. “You … you thought I’d cheat on you?” Anger was something that he’d been putting off for a few weeks, something he’d been pushing away, rejecting, but it flared now, potently. “You thought that I’d - Why didn’t you just ask who she was?”

“I wanted you to tell me.” Rey’s hand covered her mouth, and her shoulders trembled, and Poe wanted so desperately to hold her, but he was so angry with her. “I just wanted you to be open with me-”

“I’m not Ben,” Poe snapped. He scoffed and shook his head, and pretended he didn’t see Rey flinch. “I know he was a piece of shit, and I know he fucked up, and he upset you, and broke your trust, but fuck, I thought you knew me better than that.”

“I’m sorry,” Rey was crying now, and Poe needed to hold her, but she wasn’t looking at him, and he needed her to ask him to - she’d pushed him away too many times, and he was pretty sure it would kill him if she did now.

“Andrea resized the ring.” Poe eyed the box still clutched in Rey’s hand. “She’s an old family friend - my father’s friend, really - and I know she uses a lot of fucking heart emojis when she texts, but she’s just a sweet old lady. Jesus.” He gripped his hair and sank back down on the couch, unable to stand anymore. “How did this get so fucked up?”

“It’s my fault.” Rey set the box down on the table. “It’s definitely all-” she sobbed, unable to finish the thought, and Poe looked at her bleakly, a very small, very cruel part of him agreeing with her. 

“I just wanted to surprise you,” Poe whispered, his eyes drifting to the empty wall one more time. He hated that damn light yellow, the paint she’d picked out, and his one cheerful thought of the last week was that at least he’d be able to repaint the wall now. 

“I’m sorry.” Rey was waiting in the doorway, and Poe knew he should stand up and hold her, kiss her forehead, offer her the ring for real, but the fact that she’d think that of him…he wasn’t sure if he was ready to forgive her.

Poe shrugged. “Me too.”

“I’ll just…go finish…then.” Rey hesitated, and Poe didn’t move, and then she walked back into the bedroom. A hot, wet tear rolled off his chin, and Poe scrubbed his cheeks viciously, wiping his nose on his forearm; he looked over, and his heart clenched at the sight of the small, velvet box, still open, the silver ring still gleaming, sitting on the end table.

All at once, something snapped inside him, and Poe surged to his feet, snagged the small box, and raced through the doorway, into the bedroom.

“Wait!” Rey froze where she was folding up her socks to stare at him in surprise; he saw that she was still openly crying, her breath stuttering through her open mouth, her nose clearly too stuffed her to breathe through it - Rey was what she called an “ugly crier” and it was something that Poe had always loved about her, still loved about her. “Don’t.”

“Don’t what?” Rey sniffed miserably and went back to folding.

“Don’t go.” The box was heavy in his hand, and Poe struggled not to cry, but the sight of Rey crying was always enough to push him over. “Please, stay.”

“H-how can you want m-me?” Rey stared at the socks in her hand and then tossed them away from her, her hand coming to cover her eyes. He could see her mouth trembling still. “Th-there’s no way you’ve forgiven me-”

“But I will.” Poe strode across the room, unable to stop himself, and stood in front of her. He slowly reached out to gently grab her wrist and lower her hand so he could see her eyes. “Sweetheart, I will forgive you.”

“H-how?” She half-wailed, her eyes swollen and bloodshot. “I … I thought…” She shook her head in agony. “H-how could I … I’m such a fuck-up. You’re the b-best person I’ve ever met, and I still thought you could…that you were capable of…”

“It hurts,” Poe said firmly, and Rey choked through another breath. He reached around her and placed a hand between her shoulder blades, rubbing her spine soothingly, and Rey stepped in subconsciously. “I can’t lie, it really does hurt that you’d think that for even a second. But we’ll figure it out. We’ll work through it. But we can’t do that if you leave.” 

Rey sniffed and nodded, her eyes squeezing shut, more tears leaking out. Poe smoothed some of her hair out of her face, the strands damp from tears and sweat. 

“Do you think we can fix this?” Poe asked quietly. He left his hand on the side of her face. “Was that your only reason for leaving?” Rey nodded and turned her face into his palm, and he stroked her cheek gently with his thumb. 

“I didn’t even want to,” she confessed, and Poe made a wounded noise in his throat. “But I thought th-that you’d found someone new, and that you were only staying because you felt obligated to, and then I thought what if you’d hate me for keeping you from moving on, and…and I just made the decision to go. I n-never thought that you’d done something about it, but maybe you were just in love with someone else.”

“Sweetheart.” Poe cupped her face tenderly, and Rey tilted her head to look at him better. They were both equally crying now, not full-on sobs, but constant, slow tears. “Don’t you know? You’re it for me. I could never love anyone the way I love you.”

“I’m sorry,” Rey repeated, her hazel eyes wounded. Poe rested his forehead on hers, and continued to stroke her wet cheeks with his thumbs tenderly. “I almost ruined everything.”

Pattern: [Part 1] [Part2]

Preparing the Pattern

First things first, make sure you have the following items;

20 sheets of computer paper

a working printer

scissors

tape

Print out the pattern, cut out the pieces, tape necessary pieces together. If this pattern is bigger than you’d like your plush to be, feel free to resize it before printing!

*Note: this pattern DOES account for a 1/4 inch seam allowance! You do not need to cut your pieces bigger than the paper!

Starting the Plush

you will need;

Black Thread 

White Thread

Orange Thread

2 yards of orange fleece

1 yard of black fleece

1/2 yard of white fleece

sewing needles and/or a sewing machine

2 bags of stuffing, minimum. (feel free to add more stuffing if you find your Hobbes sags more than you’d like!)

Optional:

buttons for the eyes

thimbles for your thumbs

When I started this plush, I started from the bottom and worked my way up, meaning I sewed him together in this order;

Tail, then feet, then body, and finally head. You may go in any order you wish. There is no wrong way to sew a plush! (Well... yeah there is, but I’ll explain that later)

Durring this tutorial, I note which stitches I’m using for which piece. I use only three stitches for the entire plush, they being Running Stitch, Back Stitch, and the Ladder Stitch (aka slip stitch or invisible stitch) If you do not know how these stitches work, check out this quick sewing tutorial on DeviantART.

Tail

Stitch Used: Back Stitch

Get your 1 (one) black tail tip piece, your 4 (four) black tail stripes, and 5 (five) orange tail stripes, and your choice of either your orange or black thread. (I chose orange). I started sewing the tail by first sewing all the stripes to each other until I had one big rectangle, until it looked like this;

Once all the tail stripes were sewn together, only then did I sew the tail closed into one long tube, (But still leaving the ends open for stuffing). 

I then set this piece aside, and sewed the tail tip together. Looking at the paper pattern for reference, sew the sides labelled “A” together, and repeat for sides “B”, “C”, and “D”, until you have a rough cone shape. Now sew this cone onto the rest of the tail. I like to line up the sewn edges for a more uniform look.

Turn the tail inside out to hide the stitching and fill the tail with as much or as little stuffing as you prefer. sew the one remaining open end closed, and set the tail aside.

NOTE: If you want your tail to have more stripes, feel free to cut your current stripes thinner, and/or cut more for a longer tail!

Feet (part 1)

Stitch Used: Back stitch

Grab your 4 (four) white paw pieces and white thread. Just like the tail tip, look to the paper pattern and sew the sides labelled “A” to each other on a single piece, then repeat for sides “B”, “C”, and “D”. Do this to all four pieces, then set them aside. Leave them inside out with the stitching exposed.

Body

Stitch used: Back stitch

Get your 2 (two) orange body pieces and orange thread. Sew the long curved edges together. This curve is the plushies’ “back bone”, and it’s slightly curved to give Hobbes his signature slouch. (If you don’t want your Hobbes to slouch, feel free to make this edge straight before cutting your fabric). Do not sew the edge labelled “neck”, the straight edge of the bottom, nor the protutions on the opposite edge of the back bone. These edges will be the arms, legs, and butt. 

Butt

Stitch Used: Back stitch

Speaking of the butt, once the two body pieces are sewn together, grab your 1 (one) orange butt piece. Use your sewing pins (or binder clips if you’re like me) to line up the butt piece with the two body pieces. Now, BEFORE you sew the butt to the lower legs of the body, grab your tail piece and line it up at the T-intersection where the two body pieces meet the lowest curve of the butt. BEFORE you sew the tail to the body and butt, make sure your tail is facing INWARD. This way, when you turn the entire body inside out, the sewn edges are hidden and the tail ends up being on the outside.

Legs

Stitched Used: Back stitch

Sew the butt to the base of the body. Now grab your 2 (two) orange inner leg pieces. These pieces should have two right-angled corners, one edge that is more slanted than the other, and is longer than it is tall. The slanted end will be closer to the belly, and the straight end will be attached to the feet. Sew the longest edge to the edge of the butt piece that makes half of a “V”, then sew the top edge of the leg piece to the leg portion of the body piece. The ends should form a triangle shape where you will then attatch the paws and sew on the belly.

Make sure you keep the tail inside! I kept my tail piece tucked against the backbone to keep it out of the way. 

Arms 

Stitch Used: Back Stitch

You will repeat this process with the 2 (two) orange pieces labbeled upper arm. The shortest edge of this piece will be attatched to the neck, and should not be sewn to the body just yet. The curved edge edge of the upper arm can be lined up and sewn to the curved edge of the arm portion of the body. Sew the bottom edge of the upper arm to the matching section of the body as well, but do not sew the edges labelled “paw” or belly” just yet.

Paws (part 2)

Stitch Used: Back stich

At this point you can either sew on the belly or the paws. I sewed the paws onto the legs first, leaving the belly open that way I could slip my hands into the limbs and more easily manipulate the feet, since sewing in a circle isn’t as easy as sewing flat shapes. Just like the tail, I lined up the longest sewn edge of the paw with the seem of the limb for a more uniform look. 

Belly

Stitch Used: Back Stitch

At this point in your plush, all of the body, legs, tail and feet should be sewn together, except for the big gap of the stomach. Take your 1 (one) white belly piece is the heptagon that is longer than it is wide. The corners of this piece should like up with the corners of the arms and legs of your plush, with the one accute point pinned to the butt. Sew all edges to the arms and body, EXCEPT the shortest edge at the top. This is the neck and will need to stay open until the very end after the plush is stuffed. 

Once the belly is sewn to the body, turn the entire plush inside out so all the sewn edges are inside. It should look something like this;

(I temporarily stuffed my plush at this point to make sure it could sit right. I had to un-stuff it in order to sew on the body stripes)

Head (front)

Stitch Used: back stitch

Whoo-boy. I’m gonna be honest. The head was the hardest part of this plush. Saran wrap, paper mache, packing tape, and a balloon was involved in getting the shape right, and even now I feel I could have done better. I made adjustments as I was sewing, so feel free to do the same.

As I type this, I realized I forgot to label the face piece as (x2). So get your face piece pattern, and cut 2 (two) orange pieces. One edge should be long and curved, and the other edge should be broken with triangle cut outs. sew the unbroken curved edges together. This will be the line down the middle of the face. And just like the paws and tail tip, sew the edges labelled “A”, “B”, “C”, and “D” together. This will give the face depth.

Head (back)

Stitch used: back stitch

Find your four orange pieces labelled upper head, lower head, crown and neck, and arrange the pieces like so;

(pieces shown are, from top to bottom, crown, upper head, lower head, and base of the head). Note: It is important that the longer curved edges of the upper and lower head pieces bend away from each other. This is so the head has depth with sewn together. Sew the curved edges to the curved edge of its neighboring piece. You should end up with a half-sphere shape. 

Another Note: When sewing on the Base of the Head, I started at it’s widest points, and sewed along the top (the edge that was not shaped like a “B”) This will leave you with two flaps that are unsewn. This is okay, and in fact, necessary.

Sew this half-sphere shape to the front of the head, but DO NOT sew the bottom edge of the Base of the Head to the front of the face or body just yet. We’ll need to stuff it first, and attatch it to the body!!

Mouth and Eyes

Stitch Used: Running Stitch

OH MAN I ALMOST FORGOT. Once the front and back of the head is sewn together, you have to add the mouth. Cut out your 1 (one) black nose piece and sew it to the center of your mouth piece with black thread. (if you need a tip on how to keep the nose centered, fold the nose piece and mouth piece in half symetrically so you know where the middle line is for each, then line them up with each other).

Get your 1 (one) white mouth + nose piece and white thread. Position how high or low you want the mouth to be on the face and pin it to the head. for me, I lined up the mouth until it was just under the triangle cut outs that had been labelled “B” on the face. Sew the mouth from the widest point on the sides (this will be nearer the bottom) across the top, but DO NOT sew the bottom edge of the mouth to the face. (We will give it a bit of stuffing so he has a muzzle.)

At this point you may want to add eyes, too. I originally bought two black buttons, but they looked to round and... kinda creepy, so I just cut two oval pieces of black fleece and sewed them on above the mouth.

Stripes

Stitch used: running stitch.

At this point it’s time to sew on the stripes. While I do have patterns for the head and shoulders, you may have noticed I have no stripes for the legs or back. That is because each stripe is slightly different from the next and no one uniform pattern piece would suffice for the entire body. Some stripes were perfect rectangles while others were elongated trapazoids or had tapered ends. If you have a flexable tape measure, you can fin out how long each stripe needs to be on your plush. For me, the stripes on the back were roughly 13 (thirteen) inches long, and I cut each of them an inch wide. Just like the tail, though, if you want your Hobbes to have more stripes, feel free to cut them thinner to make room for more! 

This process can also be done for the head if you want your Hobbes to have a more stripe-y face, but if you’re content with my pattern, then take your head stripes and lay them OVER the seams on the back of the head. (the crown stripe will go over the seam of the crown and upper head piece, the middle head stripe will go over the seam between the upper and lower head piece, and the lower head stripe will go over the seam of the lower head and base of head piece) These stripes are curved so they lay more natually ot the 3D shape of the head when stuffed.

I used a running stitch for all the stripes since I couldn’t see my hand that was inside the plush (and because I was losing my god damned mind at this point from staring as so much orange and black). The head was the hardest part for me to sew, but these stripes may be the hardest part for you since you are working with a 3D structure now, constantly having to rotate this big orange bag and fighting to keep the stripes straight until you sew them down. Don’t be afraid to use those sewing pins to keep your stripes in place!

Ears

Stitch used: Back stitch and running stitch.

Another thing I almost forgot! You may not be able to tell from my pictures, but my Hobbes’ ears are actually sewn on top of his crown stripe. Get your 4 (four) black ear pieces and some black thread and sew two together along their curved edge until you have two ears. Do not sew the straight edges together. Turn them inside out. Okay, now you can sew the straight edges together if you want. Personally, I did not do this. 

To make sure the ears were even, I temporarily stuffed Hobbes’ head before pinning them on. I also slightly bent Hobbes’ ears into a “C” shape before pinning them to the stripe so they had a bit of a concave shape when they were sewn on. After pinning the ears (and don’t be afraid to use a lot of pins to keep the in place) I un-stuffed the head and sewed the ears on. A back stitch was used to attatch the two ear pieces to each other, and a running stitch was used to attatch the ear to the head.

Neck

Stitch Used: Back stitch

If you’ve been following along up to the point, you should have a finished head and body, complete with stripes and all. Now it’s time to put the two bits together. 

There are a couple of ways you can go about doing this. If you want, you can completely turn both head and body pieces with the outside in, and have all the seems showing, or you can be like me and have the plush with the outside on the out and the head “upside down”. 

First, get your neck piece. Because it is curved, it has a concave and a convex side. You will want to sew the concave side (the inner, shorter curve) to the neck of the plush. Unlike all the other stripes on my plush, this one was sewn with a back stitch and with the seem facing inward like the rest of the body and feet. 

Next, grab your head. I first made sure the head was stuffed so I would be sewing it on straight. When I positioned the head where  I wanted to rest, I pinned the neck to the two flapps on the Base of Head piece. I then unstuffed the head some and sewed the head to the convex curve of the neck stripe, starting at the corners of the mouth, but NOT under the chin, and I did NOT sew the orange pieces of the head closed. 

Like the concave side, I did a back stitch and made sure the seem was facing inward like the body and paws. (You’ll be holding Hobbes’ head back 180 degrees to do this)

If done right, your Hobbes will have a giant gaping hole in his jugular, as well as a gap between his white mouth piece and orange face pieces, and a cavity in his skull. This is okay! Because now we can fill him up with stuffing!

Stuffing the Plush

I used roughly two bags of polyfill to stuff Hobbes. You can fill him with as much or as little stuffing as you like, but the most important part about stuffing any plushie is avoiding clumps. It’s better to use lots and lots of little bunches to stuff your plush rather than big handfuls. This helps prevent your stuffed animal from becoming lumpy. 

I started stuffing the body first, using fingers and those sticks that come in the bags to poke the stuffing all the way into Hobbes’ toes. I then filled up his legs, and made sure they were packed tight so he would sit properly, then carefully stuffed his belly. I know it’s tempting to just put great big clumps in his stomach to fill him faster, but take your time. Because the belly piece is so smooth and flat, lumps will be felt easier if you don’t fill the main body carefully. 

After you fill the main body, take a minute to run your fingers between his belly, back and stuffing to work out any lumps that my have snuck in there while you were stuffing him. This is the one chance you have to fix the stuffing directly before you close up the throat!

Fill Hobbes’ body up to about the shoulders then pause. We’re going to switch to the head for a bit.

Much like the body, continue stuffing the head with small bunches and try to spread them evenly in the face. A round object is more likely to look mishapen if you just stuff your fill in their willy-nilly. When the head is almost full, take a hanfull of filling and stuff the muzzle with as much or as little as you want until it’s shaped the way you like. When you’re done with that, now and only now you can sew the bottom of the mouth to the bottom of the face pieces.

At this point your head and body pieces should be nearly 100% stuffed, save for a little sewing room for the chin and throat. If you’d like to fill this space with stuffing, do it now.

Closing the throat.

Stitch used: Ladder stitch

The ladder stitch is probably the most difficult stitch on this plush. It’s basically a running stitch, but you only see the vertical threads connecting the head and body, you don’t see the horizontal lines of the threads going into and out of the same piece of fabric. The only way I can describe it is, you want to Tunnel Through the Mountains, not Bridge Over the Valleys. When the thread comes out of your fabric, it should go OVER the edge towards the next piece, not under it. This forces the fabric to curl inward when the seem is pulled shut so it doesn’t stick out.

(If you look at my picture, I actually messed up near the bottom. (hobbes’ left shoulder) The thread comes out under the orange fabric. This is backwards.)

Tie your thread tight to one corner of the throat and leave your ladder stitch wide and loose like above so you can easily see and maneuver beneath the chin. I pulled my ladder stitch through the same edge that the mouth was sewn to the face. 

When the ladder stitch runs across the entire throat like above, you’re going to tighten the stitch bit by bit like you would shoe laces. Start near your beginning knot and on every fifth thread or so, pull the string tight until the head and body pieces come together and touch. Repeat this until the head is completely touching the body.

When you reach the other corner, pull a little tighter to give yourself more room to tie the final knots. (then when you let go, the fabric will expand a bit and tighten up against any extra thread that may have been before the knot, so the final knot doesn’t end up loose)

And congratulations! You’re done! You’ve sewn Hobbes!

Rachel’s eyes fluttered open as she tried to slow her breathing. Lifting her head from his shoulder, she cupped his face gently. She never realized how green his eyes were. “What?” She asked panting.

Gar rested his forehead to her own. “I wanted you first.” He whispered, eyes drifting closed as he shivered in the aftermath. He pulled her closer to him, groaning as her legs tangled around his waist again. “I think I fell for you after I got to see all the different sides of you in Nevermore.”

She smirked at the all most forgotten memory. “I just think you liked the fact that Happy laughed at your jokes.”

“I did.” He chuckled breathily. “I got to see the girl beneath the cloak, and I loved all the pieces of her.”

Violet eyes opened slowly. She rested her head in the crook of his neck and him tight against her chest. Her hands traced patterns up and down his back as she enjoyed the feeling of his warmth.

“I still love her.” Gar confessed softly.

Rachel ignored the stab of guilt at his words. The warm delusion her orgasm provided was slipping away as reality flooded her veins. “I love you, too.” She confessed sadly. Placing her arms on his shoulders, she pushed him off her. Rachel slide off the counter, collecting her clothes from the kitchen floor. “It’s too late though.”

“What?” Naked and stunned, he stood by the counter.

“It’s too late.” She sighed, pulling her shirt back on. “You’re getting married in four months.” Pulling her pants back on, she walked over to the sink to splash water on her face and rinse her mouth out.

Gar leaned against the counter, folding his arms across his chest. “Well, I think it would be better if I called it off before the invitations go out.”

“How are you so nonchalant about this?”

“How am I supposed to be?” He answered.

“Upset, angry, confused…” Rachel paused, feeling her adrenaline and panic rise. “Distressed!?”

“How can I be anything but happy finally knowing the woman I love, and have loved for years, loves me back?” Gar explained tenderly. “Especially, when I’d given up on the idea of us. I moved on with Terra because...” He shrugged. “What else what was I supposed to do?”

“I’m not going to pretend I have the answers for this.” Rachel ignored the excited butterflies at the thought of a future with him. “You’re engaged.”

“And you’re about be engaged.”

Ouch. “That’s my point.” Rachel gestured. “We’re not able to explore this option.”

“Who says?”

“I’m done with this conversation.” She decided, picking up his clothes and tossing them at him. “I’m going to go shower. And by the time I come back to my kitchen to get a glass of wine, you’ll be gone and back with your fiancée, and we can forget this happened.”

He called out, trying to stop her from walking past him. “Rae-“

“Goodbye Garfield.”

“You better be bloody dying.”

“No.” Rachel sighed, rolling to her back as she clutched her phone to her ear. After she’d kicked Gar out of her apartment, she showered, eaten a box of freezer burnt mozzarella sticks, finished the bottle of wine she’d bought and plus one she had in the cabinet, then tried to sleep without her guilty conscious nagging her. “But I think I’m going to hell.”

“Have you forgotten you’re half demon?” Though sleepy, Toni’s wit was still sharp. “I’m pretty sure it’s a guarantee.”

The violet haired woman decided to ignore her friend’s sarcasm. “I think I actually may have earned my spot.” She sighed. “Pretty sure Trigon still thinks nepotism for the weak, even in hell.”

“I’m halfway around the world. I can’t help you hide the body, just teleport it to another dimension.”

Rachel wasn’t sure how to respond to this statement.

Toni yawned, shuffling around. “If you wanna dunk it in acid or something, we can do that when I’m in town for the wedding.”

“Seriously?” Rachel paused, shaking her head. “We’re really having this conversation?”

“You said you’re going to hell…”

“So you jump to murder?!”

“What the hell am I supposed to think?”

“You’re not supposed to think I’m a murderer.”

“Honestly Rae,” Toni started. “What am I supposed to think? You’re calling me panicked, rambling, and crazy ass early in the morning. I’m going to jump to murder. I’m your best friend, so I am the person you’d call to help you hide the body.”

The violet haired woman dragged a hand over face, stressed. She didn’t have time for witty banter. Normally, this would be amusing. “I fucked up.” She sighed. “I fucked up, and I don’t know what to do.”

“Oh god,” Toni gasped softly, hearing the severity of the situation. “Did you cut up Terra’s wedding dress?”

“Metaphorically,” Rachel confessed. “Gar and I had sex.”

Toni paused. “You mean Garth, your boyfriend. Your boyfriend who’s been emailing me pictures of engagement rings because he’s trying to pick the perfect one out for you.”

“No I meant Gar as in Garfield, who is not my boyfriend.”

“I’m going to pretend I didn’t hear that.”

“Toni…”

“Nope.” Toni insisted. Rachel could imagine her shaking her head. “I want no part of this. I trust you’re going to do the right thing.”

Rachel was tempted to ask what exactly was the right thing. She was torn between what felt right and what she was expected to do.

“After the ceremony, we can go out and get drunk,” Toni assured. “My treat.”

“Thank you so much for volunteering to do this.” Terra smiled, setting the stack of envelopes in front of Rachel. “I tried to hire a calligrapher, but the rush fee cost more than getting the invitations printed!”

“She didn’t volunteer.”  Jinx snickered, stuffing envelopes from her seat across from them.

“True.” Rachel shrugged with a small smirk on her lips. “It’s not my fault I know calligraphy,” She looked at the list of guests, dipping her quill in the gold ink. “And I am happy to do it.” She decided her penance was to, happily, do everything within her power to make sure this wedding happened.

“Doesn’t hurt that you got laid last night.” Jinx grinned, sneakily.

The violet haired woman felt her blood go cold. She was thankful Jinx made that little remark after she finished the name on the envelope.

“Celebratory?” Kori grinned, from her seat. The redhead was assigned to working on the seating plan.

“There isn’t a ring on her finger.” Terra commented, without taking another look.

“That doesn’t mean anything.” Kori insisted as she continued writing. “It could need to be resized.”

“I am not engaged.” Rachel informed, them moving to the next envelope.

“Yet!”

“And I’m just in a good mood, is that so unusual?”

“Yes.” Terra and Jinx said together.

Kori grinned sheepishly. “I would have to agree.”

“You also have a hickie on your shoulder.”

“It’s not a hickie.” Rachel insisted. “It’s a bruise from aerial yoga. I decided to check out a class last night and one of the straps got caught on my shoulder.” If they didn’t buy the lie, Garth wouldn’t. Good thing it was still cold enough for thick sweaters and turtlenecks.

“Ouch.” Terra confirmed, reviewing her lists.

“Looks like a hickie.” Jinx pressed.

“Because you’re a pervert.” Rachel quipped back as she continued to write.

“Pervert,” Jinx shrugged, smiling cheekily. “Free spirit- Whatever. I appreciate good work that looks like good work.”

“Exercise injury.” Rachel reminded as she continued to work. “Didn’t get laid. Garth worked late last night, and I went to yoga.”

“That’s depressing.”

“Hey leave her alone.” Terra defended, pointing her pen at the pink haired woman. “Gar and I haven’t had sex since the engagement party. At least she has something to relieve stress, wedding planning doesn’t do the pinch.”

“Geez.” Jinx flinched. “That was over two months ago.”

Rachel looked to the envelope she was working on, ignoring the guilt she felt.

“You guys are busy with wedding stuff.” Kori assured. “Richard and I went through that. Wedding planning is stressful, and the boys work crazy hours.”

“He didn’t get home until six this morning.” Terra commented. “He showered, changed his clothes, and went to the gym.” She sighed. “I think he’s getting cold feet.”

“I don’t think so.” Rachel added. “This,” She gestured at the plethora of wedding materials around the small living room. “Is a lot.”

“It’s not like he has to do anything.” Jinx snorted, sitting another envelope in front her Rachel. “He just has to pay people-“

“Steve and Rita are taking care of the venue and reception costs, thankfully.” Terra added.

“Well,” JInx drawled. “All he has to do is get a tux and show up.”

“That is the groom’s job.” Kori giggled. “I did all the planning for my wedding. Richard really didn’t care. I promise, the day after the wedding you both are going to breathe a big sigh of the relief.”

“Whoa.”

The women looked up to see Gar stopping in the doorway with his gym bag on his shoulder. His living room was littered with color swatches, faux flowers, vases, bags, and many little trinkets.

“Speak of the devil.” Jinx laughed. “Welcome to the party.”

“Party?” He questioned, stepping over the pile of papers and walking over to the table they sat at. “What is all this stuff?”

Rachel could feel his eyes on her as he pressed a kiss to Terra’s forehead. She continued writing.

“Centerpiece ideas, tablecloth and napkin swatches, wedding favors, invitations-“

“I thought we were going to wait a couple weeks to send those out?” Gar asked, picking up one of the invitations. “The wedding is four months away. We’ve got plenty of time.”

Terra shook her head. “Less than four months. We didn’t send out save the date cards and the caterers a count for plates, so these need to go out preferably as soon as possible.”

“Yea, but I thought you wanted a calligrapher to address them.”

“Calligrapher would have to charge a couple hundred for a rush order, and Rachel graciously offered to address them for us.” Terra smiled, pointing to the woman’s handy work. “I figured if we could get these addressed before the weekend is over, I could mail them out Monday.”

“Let’s wait until the end of the month.” Gar pushed, leaning between Rachel and Terra as he pretended to examine Rachel’s calligraphy. “These look nice.”

“Gar, some of these have to mailed outside the country.”

“We could just to digital invites.”

“No, not for a formal wedding.” Kori frowned from her seat.

Gar sighed. “Can we-“

Rachel knew where this conversation was going. She quickly dipped her quill in the ink, jerking her arm to send the gold ink spilling across the the table and splashing on the blonde man’s shirt. “Shit! I’m sorry. I was rushing.” She interrupted, throwing paper on top of the ink she spilled.

“It’s alright.” Terra shrugged. “I got another bottle just in case.”

“Thankfully, the invitations are okay.” Kori noted, moving the ones that had been completed across the table.

“I’m gonna get some salt.” Rachel commented standing up. “That should help get the rest of this ink.”

“I think the paper got it all.” Terra checked the table.

“You should probably wash your hands too, Midas.” Jinx joked, looking at her gold covered hands.

“Think it will get it off my shirt?” Gar asked following Rachel into the kitchen.

Rachel walked over to the sink, flipping the faucet on with the back of her hand. “Are you insane?” She whispered, knowing the sound of the water would drown out their conversation. “What the hell are you doing?”

“I told you,” Gar whispered. “I’m breaking up with her.”

“We can’t be together.”

“You said it yourself. It’s not an option right now because we’re both in relationships.”

“Exactly.” She emphasized.

“So, I’m trying to make this work. I am getting out of my relationship.” He pleaded, scrubbing at the front of his shirt. “I want to be with you.”

“You don’t know me!” Her voice was low but harsh. “We’ve barely said anything to each other since we’ve moved out of the tower, and yet you’re willing to end an engagement over a one night stand?”

“It was more than that.”

“We had sex.” Her voice dropped, her eyes shifted to the doorway to the room where his fiancée and their friends were. “A lot old emotions came up.”

“So, let’s deal with it.”Gar pushed, tossing the rag into the sink. “Let’s see if we want this.”

Rachel sighed, shaking the water from her hands. Hands pressed on the edge of the sink, she hunched over. “So, what? Let’s date?”

“How else are we going to know?”

“Sure, let’s date while my boyfriend is about to propose to me and you’re getting married in a few weeks.”

“I am trying to break it off.”

“In a room, full of her bridesmaids and in front of the bridesmaid you’re cheating on her with? Classy, Gar, real classy.”

“Then what do you want me to do?”

“I want you to think about this.” Rachel furiously scrubbed her hands. “Really, really, think about what we’re doing. You can’t break this off.”

“This situation is already shit storm, let’s not make it more complicated by dragging it out.” Gar sighed. “But, fine,” He shrugged. “I won’t break if off.”

She breathed a sigh of relief.

“But, I’m not giving up on us either.”
