video editing

related to the ask i answered from @whats-amata-you about video editing, i'm going to go into a more in depth guide on editing with CapCut on desktop under the readmore ^-^ there are other editors out there obviously but this is the best free one i've worked with so far

this is very long and im sorry for that, i just have adhd and wanted to talk about everything, i hope its helpful and if theres anything thats confusing let me know!

basics:

before you start you wanna go into your settings and make sure Proxy is turned on, this will help with lag from any big file sizes

to give a rundown of what i know about the capcut menu so far (and whats the most useful for basics imo):

the tool bar section essentially, for splitting/cutting down whatever section you have selected, mirroring it, rotating it, etc

the main edit section- video, audio, and speed are the basics that you'll need but ill go into some of the other parts listed in a few

how to resize the output ratio, depending on the ratio of your clips/videos you may need to resize them to whatever you want the output to be. i use 4:3 most of the time and resize the videos to fill the space correctly (if you mass select the clips you can resize them all at once)

the zoom bar for the timeline so you can work more precisely or quickly with clips

once you've got your new project started and all your clips and audio imported, you wanna click and drag those files down to the timeline and itll put them in the middle 'cover' layer, HOWEVER, you wanna drag video clips ABOVE the cover layer after, and then 'hide' the cover layer. this is because the middle layer locks video clips in place and offers very little freedom to work, doing it on free layers is better (when you drag itll look like the first pic, with a line highlighting above the main layer. the eye symbol in the second pic is how to hide a layer)

you can also edit the ratio of the output and mass edit the videos to fill the video player while you've got your clips in one place

NOTE: i try to move all the videos so that there is a good bit of empty space in the beginning of the project, this is where your song and actual edit will be worked on, and you want some empty space between the song and the videos you're using so that you have space to move them around and cut them down later on

from here, you wanna cut down the song audio you want to use and put it at the very beginning of the timeline. you wanna pay attention a bit to the intro and outro so things dont sound disjointed or off beat or have too much dead silence, but for the most part it doesnt have to be perfect. you can also edit the volume of the song in the audio menu top right so its not blasting your ears out while editing

also, a tip for audio: if you need a section to be shorter or longer, you can sometimes splice the audio up and piece it back together. its easier to do this if you zoom in really far and pay attention to the beats and sounds, but with enough practice you make a song work better for the edit while still flowing smoothly!

you should also decide if you want any speaking parts for your edit or any neat sounds and set those clips aside, the clips that you dont want to have audio you can mass select and right click them, there'll be an option to extract audio which you can them mass select and delete (if you decide you want audio later you can right click and do recover audio on any clip that needs it) if you have a clip where you only want part of the sound, you can extract the audio and cut it down so only that section of audio remains, but make sure to keep it synced with the video!

the next step is just fitting your clips to the audio! it doesn't have to be 100% perfect, nor do you have to have a new clip on every single beat, but it is good to use the beats of the song or the words as a general idea of where you should cut the clip to so it looks smoother. if you zoom in far you can see on the audio tracks where the beats are along with listening and you can use a marker (highlight in yellow on the first pic) to tell you where it is later, this will also help the clip snap into place when resizing (second pic)

EDIT: there is also a button on the tool bar that will mark the beats for you if you dont want to do them yourself (no, this is not gen ai, its just a beat detection tool)

this is pretty much the last of the basic stuff, aside from whatever little edits you want to do to size, speed, audio, etc. when im fitting clips i always do it all over the place so just take your time and dont worry about making it like a puzzle, just fit clips to wherever you think they look and sound the best

for everything after this, its not a necessity or anything, if you just wanna slap your watermark on the video and export it you totally can i do that all the time when i dont wanna deal with other stuff, but ill give the rundown of extra stuff just in case you want it too-

colors, sharpening, filters

so, while you can adjust each video's colors individually, its a lot easier to nab an adjustment layer from the top and pull it down to the timeline, then resize it to your edit (first pic). you'll mostly want the basic section which will give you clarity, saturation, etc (second pic), and the curves section which can help you edit the colors of the video, either to an extreme or light amount (third pic) i havent played with hsl too much but you can mess with it to your liking too! (if you need a few clips adjusted a certain way you can also split the adjustment layer so you only edit the clips it's above as well)

you can also use the pre made filters for this, right next to adjustments, but not all of them work great with animation

animations/transitions, text, edits

so to make your clips move and look more lively, you have two options: animations or transitions (or both if you want)

for animations, you click on a video clip and go up to the animation section where you can choose a combination of in, out, or combo. theres a lot of really fun ones here and you can adjust the durations of them until they look how you want, you can also add in AND out animations together on one clip

for transitions, you go to the section up top, pull one of the transitions down between two clips, and then you can edit the size of it. you cant add two transitions at once but they can go along with clips that have animation added to them so you can layer the effects!

effects and stickers are in the same vein of just fun stuff you can add, i havent played around with stickers a huge amount but capcut has a pretty good amount of neat things for edits tbh, but also if you want to make your own 'stickers' you could probably just import a transparent png image and put it on a layer above your video

for text, i usually just do default text and edit it to my liking but i know they have some neat premade stuff too, either way you wanna put it as the very top layer so none of the adjustment or effects layers are doing anything to it

theres a few other things that capcut has to offer that i havent explored yet or thought they were a little more than basic, but once you have all this down then the editing program is your oyster to play around with as you please!

exporting

after everything's the way you like it, you wanna delete all the extra clips/audios you didnt use, that way the program will default to ending at the actual end of your edit, then you wanna go up to file and select "Export" and you'll see a menu pop up

now it defaults to saving in a hidden folder in your appdata which is the most annoying thing in the world so you wanna select the folder to export (highlighted), save whatever folder is best for you, and then click export! it chooses video automatically so you dont really need to do anything extra, you also dont have to choose a folder every time, it will save into whatever you first chose every time after this

afterwards, you simply upload to your social media of choice with whatever caption and tags you want!

i really hate how believe all victims turns into believe everyone who speaks first, no matter what they say, no matter context, no matter proof. the first statement made in this case was untrue in a lot of important details and while i dont think caitis feeling are wrong or invalid i think her first statement made this situation into something it isnt. i think every victim should be heard but attacking everyone who was accused right away is not a solution

i do believe that everyone who was accused of anything has every right to defend themselves. the way its constantly taken away from dteam is not lost on me and its insane and upsetting

mob kinda stands there, hands flexing and unflexing cause hes really not good at putting things into words in this au. it drags on long enough that teruki is just starting to pull away with a scoff when he is stopped cold like he took a stone to the head.

that gets his attention in a big way that makes his stomach roil. mobs never addressed him like this before- maybe a soft hanazawa-kun when he needed to, but the nickname cuts straight to the core and he is on guard immediately.

& you can imagine it from there. teruki panics and lashes out first, which pushes mob over the edge and suddenly theyre fighting and its UGLY. it makes their initial fight look like a joke. it makes the soccer field look like a battleground. it knocks teru half conscious, held by the throat in mobs sweaty, burning grip with blood dripping into his eyes when hes got an abrupt sense of nausea and something eye piercingly green shoots out his nose with an unceremonious, "oh jesus, kid."

hiii !!!! this is gonna be a long rant

okok after several playthroughs and gave up n just ended up watching kreekcraft beat it, i got a Lot of thoughts

floor 2 is DEFINITELY difficult but there's no surprise there. the only nitpick i have is the stark difference with the hotel - as in, in the hotel there are a lot of rooms to breathe, like take a quick breather between the chaos that can happen throughout the hotel.

in the mines, there's hardly room to breathe - screech constantly spawns which is def annoying and i feel they should balance it a bit more; there's waayyy less safe rooms (i.e. infirmary, curious' room etc.) and it sorta feels like the backdoor in terms of you need to leave every room like quickly.

i definitely love the update !! i like the new entities, though keep in mind i havent gone past door 50 so im not sure about the halfway point/ending. the new mechanics are nice, i just think there's room for balancing since yes the difficulty is insane.

i think the devs really outdid themselves and red talked about them revamping their whole system and engine(?) so future updates shouldn't take as long as this one

hide getting a redesign + new mechanic was something i was not expecting - i thought that odd red entity that was leaked a while ago was a new entity but apparently not. the heartbeat minigame was a cool twist, definitely had to readjust to the new mechanic. getting ambush in the early doors was Not it as an introduction to it though, seeing as you can no longer jump in and out (despite guiding telling me to, unless im doing something wrong) and have to do a minigame that gets more and more difficult the longer you stay in. could be that you have to get out before hide spawns to get back in but idk.

i just didnt like the fact that hide spawns Instantly in later rooms, or that it also happens in the hotel. i'd rather keep the timed closet than the minigame in the hotel tbh, and just make it seem like an enraged version of hide in the mines.

i reaallyyy love eyes new mechanic - it teleporting around instead of just staying in one spot? love that. also the sound it makes is so satisfying.you're doing great sweeties

screech is like. Super annoying. like i get that its his whole thing but theres a slight difference between bearable annoying and frustrating annoying. i think screech spawns waaayy too often especially with a screech and eyes combo. definitely should lower the spawn rate if they want screech to constantly be a threat throughout the mines and not like it only spawns in dark rooms in the hotel.

i loovee what they've done with halt's new hallway. the hotel one especially, its fucking sick and probably one of my favourite rooms. the mines' one is alright, i dont like the meanders but i guess its a switch up to the linear one in the previous floor. i love u halt keep doing what ur doing

the new seek chase was absolutely amazing, i cant believe we can Jump now. new music is banger, lsplash drop the spotify release NEOOWW . only nitpick is the rng of having to crouch right before an intersection, so you cant see where guiding is trying to lead you before its too late. probably a skill issue on me, but so far i havent beat seek chase yet.

next ramblings are gonna be based on kreekcraft's playthrough since i never got past door 50.

overall i feel like the main issue with this floor is difficulty and also how every room feels like it drags onn. like waayyy too long. but overall, cool update, will be playing a lot more later. i Need to beat this damn floor. literally less than 800 people have beaten it.

The prewar stuff. First 7 minutes of the pilot episode had me so on edge

me and ray have watched about half of it and we mystery science theater-ed it the whole way and heckled the fuck out of it. needless to say, not a big fan.

but thats so funny the first prewar segment i was so pissed off. the bombs dropping immediately right next to them was written so stupid. just took out any grounding in reality and grace i had just immediately. really did set the tone for the whole thing that it would not be for me. like. i thought the sole survivor and the vault 111 people seeing and getting blasted (yet remaining perfectly fine) as they went down was stupid too. this was just ten times worse bc it was SO focused on. GAH

not even mentioning they branded the black main character on screen for no reason, named the enclave scientist directly after a real life holocaust survivor (to the point it muddies his google results) and then carried his decapitated head around as the macguffin (bc they invented a disgusting prosthetic leg to be so cruel that he killed himself over it. way to go honoring a holocaust concentration camp survivor???), the uncaring anti-recovery view on ghoul/drug recovery and weird parallels they tried to equivilate it to turning feral and drug addicts having a point of no return, plus more im sure bc we hadnt even finished the series? lots of people have written more in depth posts about the weird n bad shit the fallout tv show decided to do for some reason.

that said, i did really like in broad strokes how they were characterizing maximus and his relationship with the bos and how power and expectation and cycles of abuse corrupt. but i also havent seen how his arc ends. however the writers view that the wasteland is just a suffering machine i think fails to consider that fallout doesnt have to just be about lets blow each other up with nukes and kill each other for fun. functioning society exists in this post post apocalyptic world and theres plenty of interesting stories to be told about THAT.

i havent played classic fallouts yet but when i learned about the narrative repercussion of the original bloody mess trait, i think it fundamentally changed my view on how modern fallouts idea of gore and savagery for just the spectacle. without saying anything about it. fallout nowadays feels like it rings hollow, but the tv show tended to ring with like. really weird things to say that i wish it didnt.

well. boy oh boy. i have some news for you. i'll color their names so you can distinguish them easier- theres duke keane sr, duke keane jr, doug jameson and doug keane. im half doing this for you and half doing it for myself i am ngl. theyre color coded in my notes too ;-;

duke sr dies when duke jr is about 14, to the hand of the newly formed uncle wiley. and i do mean to the hand. he was strangled. important detail

doug jameson is 17 when duke dies. they become a cop when they're 19.

they get possessed when they're 23. they're 24 when they manage to wrestle part of their body back from duke, and force him to split the body about 50/50. duke is pissed about this (he spent six years in the black- it didn't do him well) but agrees anyway- doug's not playing around with their body.

so they become doug keane. not legally, but that's what they manage to settle on. doug refuses to be called duke, and duke wants to be represented in their name. doug is also semi-close with duke, and doesn't really want to steal his friends name.

do, doug and duke are now doug. this is pretty much their final form. they use they/it collectively (the plural they, specifically, theyre two people after all), duke uses he/him ("my pronouns are u/s/a" type), doug uses they/he/she (singular they).

they get up to Shenanigans and Crime (duke is mildly murderous- think jane in jac) and it majorly screws with dougs work.

until they fall into the black. then. then it gets a little more fucked up. but that's like, a ways away and not rmr important so it hasnt been outlined yet. i just know they get weird. and mayyyybeeeeee gain a couple more souls i havent decided. they might. or they'll kill people. we'll see <3

While im rewatching mcd, ive made a few notes for my own rewrite:)

the first episodes of mcd are very self referential and have the 4th wall/audience as a character and as a normal fic/project, i don't think the media im using will mesh well with that, so im gonna veto the "villages are unaware but aphmau is -> aphmau becomes detached from the 4th wall and becomes part of the story" thing. This means i have to actually come up with backstory for aphmau and phoenix drop.

Personally ive never liked her being Irene with amnesia. In rebirth, i didnt like how clueless she was and in the original, i didnt like how detached she was from the world. Instead ive been playing around with her being a shad descendant or an irene descendant (leaning towards shad). With the ro'meaves and levin and other characters with such heavy family ties, i feel like being a descendant is a lot more powerful bc itll implement this theme of family defining you.

The reason why im leaning towards shad is because theres a lot of other descendents from the divine warriors (garroth, travis, etc.) for example, levins a descendant of irene, which makes him a target of kidnapping, but he's one of hundreds ykn? meanwhile theres not many of shad? Or at least in the text there isnt. This would also make it so aphmau would have destruction and violence in her blood, and instead she's a force of good. I also think that being a descendant of shad would be really good as blackmail? Like if the public found out, theyd villainize her, or maybe zane could put her in a bind later on when he's introduced in season one.

Now to actual episode by episode notes, my current idea is her being a hunter. She's lived secluded in the woods for some time for Some reason i havent come up with yet, which gives her reason to be able to do carpentry, farming, identify edible foods, and fight on her own. Also, with her amount of isolation, she's fairly paranoid and scared to be rejected. This means that when she arrives in phoenix drop, she's afraid of being kicked out, so she helps out in exchange for staying there (she's the only one who thinks this is a debt ). I think this state of mind will make her connect with zenix a lot more later on. ALSO her paranoia makes her hard to interact with, explaining why emmalyn didnt like her...

OMG okay this is such a good question actually because i love rambling ehheheheh

OKAY SO yoosung was my first fav but the longer i played the more i realized that we would NOT get along. he has a tendency to be very emotional when it comes to things that upset him and point fingers, which CONSTANTLY frustrates me (ESPECIALLY IN V'S ROUTE WHICH HAS BEEN SO,.,.., IRRITATING,.,.,.,.,. its like he doenst think about what hes about to say before he says it and dont get me wrong i ADORE yoosung but when hes upset we would ABSOLUTELY just butt heads.)

I THINK MY CURRENT FAVS.,., WOULD HAVE TO BE V AND ZEN. now kepe in mind i havent played ray's route yet (im saying this bc someone said ray's route made them HATE v so im not sure how thats going to affect my opinion of him.)

it bugs me when people call zen a narcissist because i think its amazing that hes confident. theres not many people that take such pride in their looks and what they do to uphold them. he's also very emotionally aware of the people around him, very kind, and very protective of the members and mc. hes such a sweet and humble guy and the trait the rfa members get on him for the most is the one i find the most amazing. hes so confident. it really is admirable.

v is a fav of mine because hes just so.,,. complicated? i think thats the best way to describe it. im just now realizing you probably werent looking for an essay and just wanted names LMAO im so sorry BUT PLEASE HEAR ME OUT FOR A FEW MORE SENTENCES OKAY!!! v is so unbelievably kind and tender, but hes so much so that he destroys himself because of it. like yes hes done some really shitty things during his relationship with rika but him realizing that over the course of his route has been something ive been living for. he cares so much for the people he holds dear that he'd sacrifice himself for them and i just wish he could love himself.

ah man i do enjoy a horror game even if im whimpering the whole time

my faves are the Amnesia series! I havent played the newest one 😭 i would like to! i was busy when it came out so i havent gotten around to it, and I heard good things. I have enjoyed all of Frictional Games stuff that Ive played, some more than others. I typically check out whatever new thing they make

i never played it myself but I also really like Until Dawn, off the top of my head. I watched a few youtubers play that one. this was many many years before i got into horror films and now i appreciate the references even more. once i finish some games on my backburner i think it would be fun to finally play it myself

i didnt love the rest of that studios anthology stuff very much until The Quarry, which i thought brought back a lot of those Until Dawn roots

the new Resident Evil stuff starting with Biohazard was also extremely fun......... to watch braver youtubers play LOL. though, those appealed to me so much that i would love to play the entire franchise one day. they all look right up my alley. im only putting it off because as mentioned in my autism ask, theres a chance RE might make me insane..... so im not quite ready to dive in yet
