I just wanted to let you know, I stumbled across your posts after playing Affairs of the Court for the first time in years, and I too have fallen head over heels for Luis!!! My entire heart!!! Anyways, I just wanted to flail in your inbox about him, and your walkthroughs were very helpful for getting the ending I wanted! 😘❤️
YAY! I... do not know how to organize my brain for outside comprehension, so I'm always delighted when a walkthrough/guide thing is actually useful. (Probably also because I am very bad at seeing behind the curtain re: game mechanics, like, I screw up my stats in every game ever because I don't think the line means what the game thinks it means.)
It is such a good time, I do still adore Luis. 😍

World's Unluckiest Hunter
Or
South Korea's Black Cat Sung JinWoo AU
Hello I'm back here and currently obsessed with Solo Leveling
And this all started because I saw a tread on here saying the rather than have unbelievable coincidence it's far more interesting (and believable ) to have it happens because this specific idiot is the type to get into this specific shit that no one else will because they know better
__________________
It all started because JinWoo is so unlucky he is practically the Law Of Murphy given human form , and the corresponding (very frequent) close brushes with death that inadvertently pique Ashborn interest are one of the few consistency in all the timelines . He is so unlucky in fact that if Ashborn didn't check (multiple times) he would have thought he was either cursed or had pissed The Monarch Of Transfiguration enough to have specters put on him just to make his life as miserable as possible .
Sung JinWoo is so unlucky in fact that Woo JinChul has a whole theory board of Jinwoo having a curse skill that has put (accidentally or not) on himself as the target 99% of the time . And while the theory might give a somewhat reasonable explanation as to why JinWoo's Hunter career had so many incidents , it still doesn't explain why he was just as unlucky before the Gates were even a thing . They still have most of the records from his hospital visits since he was 4 .
Most people would consider saying hello to Death a life defining moment JinWoo calls it a Thursday . Of course the bad luck also manifests in non-death-courting ways , like having his coffee before a dungeon raid regularly stolen by birds flying by , raining on exactly the days he didn't take his umbrella , accidentally entering Red Gates and such similar things . His highjinks are so infamous in fact that almost all Hunters know him (the S rankers all know him or at least his reputation) , and some even have restraining order on being in one dungeon raid party , mainly because the last time Sung JinWoo and Choi JongIn were on the same team a city wide fire almost started thankfully the rest of the party stoped the fire from claiming more than 4 building . Or the time he and Baek Yoonho while dealing with a dungeon break broke a zoo and mixed the animal and the magic beast . Or the time the newly awakened Hwang Dongsoo almost got beheaded , and subsequently developed PTS from being around Hunter Sung general direction (Thomas Andre found that bit of information especially hilarious until he had to meet South Korea infamous Black Cat) . There were other instances of course , but he rather quickly got banned from going on raids with the S rankers , more so for their peace of mind that his health mind you .
The reason why no one ever accused him of being a false ranker was because considering just how much death-courting he has on a daily basis no one puts it above him so suddenly re-awaken and not even notice . South Korea Hunter population will believe anything no matter how unbelievable it is if Sung JinWoo is in somehow , they have thrown logic and common sense out the window a long time ago when this specific E rank is involved .
Hell even some of the Japanese agree after they got to know Hunter Sung on the numerous times he got put with them on the Juju island raids . First time it was an honest mistake in the system , second time KHA got hacked and the third time a human mistake . And every time he got deployed he always somehow got given to the Japanese Hunters . And you would think that having an obviously foreign Hunter that doesn't speak the same language as them and is a E Rank will make them hate him and blame any death on him , and you would be right if it was any other Hunter . Not Sung JinWoo however , because despite almost burning down the island they had the lowest number of deaths in the whole raid despite being directly behind the S class rankers and acting as support and reinforcement . More than one of the Japanese S ranks wanted to steal the kid after meeting him the first time let alone the 2 other raids that followed , with the only reason as to why they can't take him being Goto Ryuji refusal to pay for the damages that will follow like the time Hunter Cha , Hunter Sung and Hunter Rei accidentally took down a trafficking ring in a perfume factory (the 3 of them smelled like and we're only able to smell roses for 3 week straight ather that ) , and also the fact that the Japanese populace adores Hunter Sung more than Hunter Goto by a large margin doesn't help .
On another note of S rank hunters that want Sung JinWoo in their country we have a specific battle maniac . Had it not been for the Chinese Hunter Association refusal to book him a flight (because they barely keep with his damages let alone adding those of the Black Cat not to mention the political fallout) Liu Zhigang would have stolen the E ranker the moment he is in proximity . He almost did do that the first time he met JinWoo and then proceeded to fall down the stairs 3 flours down , after that he started to try and adopt South Korea's Black Cat . It has yet to be successful . But at least he hasn't broken any bones yet .
The same cannot be said about Thomas Andre who was shocked to learn he was part of the "luckiest" victims , considering he will regain mobility of his body as if nothing had happened . But even he can agree he was kinda begging for it , especially considering he knows way more than most of the effects the Black Cat has on others . After all the only reason Thomas didn't fly to Korea and try to recruit the E rank Hunter was because of Hwang Dongsoo before mentioned trauma , and because he had Hwang Dongsoo before Sung JinWoo he can't take him let he accidentally kill his subordinate . He still curses himself for not finding out about the Black Cat earlier and taking him in .
There was however one thing Sung JinWoo is thankfully to Hwang Dongsoo for . That being having a lizard for an older brother that helped in getting him to meet his unlucky soulmate . Because while JinWoo is a black cat in all its power unluckiness Yoo JinHo is like an orange cat that personally has bad luck . But in an ironic way of fate when around one another they seem to cancel each other , or it would be more correct to say they make themselves moderately lucky and anyone with hostile intentions at them bearing the bad luck they would normally have .
The moment JinWoo comes out as South Korea's 10th S Rank the only real change it made for the majority of Hunters and the KHA was being elevated from Honorary S Rank to Normal S Rank . Because that's how the KHA has treated him an albeit more polite still a problem child , just like the rest of the S ranks

Wow, for you @code-rage ... I will do this text post thing. Because I do still bounce around on here once every few months. And I ALSO think back to the advent (the descent!?) of those k project days :') And of course the FE of it all :')
Last Song: Like all of living society, Beyonce's "Texas Hold 'Em."
Favorite Color: Teal!
Last movie/TV show: Last TV show I finished was Season 4 of True Detective (I feel like I got duped by that), currently watching Monarch which is mostly just enjoyable for the dual Russell of it all sprinkled with monsters. Also perpetually rewatching Parks and Recreation. Last movie was "Next Goal Wins" because I needed a break from these best picture nominee bummers.
Sweet/savoury/spicy: Sweet! But also savory :) Like a savory crepe? With melted cheese!? Yes.
Last thing I googled: The last non-sad googled things I have are "new york times connections," "rotten tomatoes," "dune popcorn bucket," "in what context does blue mean noble"
Current obsession: Playing through Overcooked with my forever friend/de-facto life partner Sara. Otherwise I feel as though I'm a little between obsessions at the moment! But all the things I've ever had my life consumed by still live in my heart - Bucky Barnes has been ruining my life since like 2007 or whenever I first read Winter Soldier.
Last book: Currently reading "Universal Harvester" and "Above Ground," before that "Red at the Bone" and the second murderbot book!
Last fic: Probably one of the biggest gifts of the last year or so was recovering an iconic South Park fanfiction that I had loved in high school but was then lost to time (aka the author removed it from the internet), but I randomly googled it and found someone else had recovered it and so got to re-read it! And it was just as gut punching, if not more so, as I remembered it being from high school. More recently, I've read one or two pretty excellent Leverage and Good Omens fics on the recommendation of another excellent friend so thank you Kate.
Looking forward to: Many things! A new bakery has just opened up nearby that I'm excited to try. Seasons 2 of Andor and Severance. Big hopeful Europe trip in May. New Decemberists album this year! Seeing some dear family friends that are visiting next month.

Well thinking about the Atlas thing, also the show has always made it clear that Marinette was the Protagonist and Adrien the Deuteragonist of this how. And according to wiki, the definition of a deuteragonist is : "actor playing the second most important role, after that of the protagonist". The SECOND most important role.
The main lore of the show may be about the Agreste family between season 1 and 5, yet the protagonist and main heroic role always belonged to Marinette. The opening always made that clear, only Maribug presents herself to the audience, not Adrichat. The story of Miraculous Ladybug has always been about Marinette first and Adrien second.
And beside, wether people like it or not, Marinette got involved in the Agreste family by unavoidable circumstances, not just because she's the superhero partner and girlfriend of the son's main supervillain in season 5, but also because Felix and Kagami chose to involve her in that drama during Representation, with the hope that she would be able to help them. And as the one in possession of one of the two magical jewel Gabriel coveted the most, Marinette would still have gotten involved in the Agreste family drama sooner or later.
Sure it's a shame that Adrien/Chat Noir didn't get his moment against his father during the finale, but at least he took the opportunity to beat his ass in Representation, to show us that Adrichat COULD break up from father's abuse and acknowledge Gabriel as a terrible parent. And if for now after the season 5 finale Adrien is under the false impression that his father was a hero, there's still room for him to break free from his father's ghost and lies.
And we must acknowledge that in a way, Adrien still took part in the final fight against Monarch, he is the one who sent Plagg to Ladybug, who was then able to fight with the power of her partner's miraculous of her side.
And on a personnal note, Marinette also deserved to have her moment to beat Monarch/Gabriel's ass. Because even though she was not as much of his victim as Adrien was, Gabriel still was respinsible for a lot of Marinette's suffering. Not only was their fight as Hawmoth/Shadowmoth/Monarch vs Ladybug making things difficult and painfull to handle for Marinette in her daily life, but Gabriel targeted her for akumatization more than once, encouraging Lila to ruin Marinette's reputation and relationships, forcing Marinette to break up with Adrien in Chat Blanc and being the main cause of this event that would leave Marinette with another trauma, keeping encouraging Lila to go after her in season 5 and taking matters into his own hands to ruin Marinette's and Adrien's happiness and separate them after Lila failed. Even in Revelation Gabriel was more happy about the fact that making all of Paris believe in the Adrigami couple would hurt Marinette and cause her jealousy to rise up.
So yeah Gabriel hurt Adrien a lot, but he also hurt Marinette, and in a way I beleive that she beat Monarch's ass in Re-creation not just for Adrien but also for herself.
Let's retake the story of Spider-man for example, one of Peter's aka Spider-man's most known nemesis is Norman Osborn aka the first Green goblin, is the father of Peter's best friend, Harry Osborn. In most Spidey's story Norman is not a good father to Harry, and was very abusive in the main earth 616 universe and all the earths that deviate from it, yet Norman's main fights are with Spider-man (usually because contrary to Adrien, Harry doesn't have super powers and isn't a super hero). Because at some point Norman's fight against Peter/spider-man became personal, there's a form of hate obsession that he developped for the super-hero and that I couldn't help but find in Gabriel/Monarch reguarding Ladybug and Marinette.
And if the comics of earth 616 did gave us one confrontation between the father and the son at some point, in the end Peter/Spider-man fights against the Green Gobling also became personal on his side in most earths, not just because he personally knows Norman, but also because he wants to protect Harry from him, and because Norman hurt Peter many, many times in many earths, and in the worst ways (killing one of Peter's love interest, physically and mentally torturing him, being the catalyst of his friendship break up with Harry, the clone saga, etc, etc ...)
And in the Sam Raimi movies, Peter also kept the truth from Harry (and by extension the medias) about his father being a super villain, as the man last's request on his dying breath.
In defence of Adrian’s absence from the s5 finale
Alright, so, a lot of people are upset that we saw very little of Adrien in the season 5 two-parter finale, especially considering it as evolving around the Agreste family and especially his father. Now, while I too would have liked to see more of him (and think in general this show ignores him at times too much) the finale was set up this way that it was necessary for him to be absent.
Why was it necessary?
Remember that little episode called “Chat Blanc”? Remember what happened in that scenario where Gabriel confronted Adrien/Chat Noire not only with the fact that he is Hawkmoth but also that he wishes to bring back Emilie, all while threatening Marinette/Ladybug? Didn’t the world get kinda destroyed by Adrien becoming akumatised?
Didn’t we kinda witness throughout all of s5 how violent/destructive Adrien can get when someone threatens someone he loves? Didn’t we all count the instances where he just wished to cataclysm everything? His trauma of cathaclysming Hawkmoth/Monarch, who while a villain, is still a human being? The sheer dread of what he saw in the nightmare scenario of becoming Anti-Chat and killing Ladybug?
Doesn’t he get that violent part from his father? Protecting loved ones even on the cost of everything else.
Adrien himself says in the session finale that he is afraid of what he could do, that he is far too emotionally vulnerable at that moment to join Ladybug in the fight. Isn’t that incredibly mature and brave of him to say?
Believe me, him being emotionally vulnerable like his father will play a part in future episodes as well as him being in the dark of what was really going on. But when it comes to the fight in the finale he was a far better help and support to Ladybug by trusting her and keeping harm away from her.

Re-reading Barbara Gordon's appearance in Hawk and Dove, I've concluded Hank may not have originally been Monarch, but was always intended to be Extant. Hank's being called by someone claiming to be Don from beyond the grave, and Hank says he'll do anytjing to bring his brother back. There are also hints in Team Titans: The name Lord Chaos is a huge one, as is how Redwing and Prester Jon mirror Robin and Oracle. Hank would feel the need to create a Dick pastiche just to prove he's better.
Tbh, I've never put a ton of thought into either the Monarch or the Extant stuff, since it was all so fucking messy even by DC-in-the-90s standards, and it always felt more like DC just desperately looking for a way to keep Hank relevant after they killed off Don (since they were conceived as a duo, the Hawk AND Dove concept...rather than DC ever previously having done much to make their characters stand on their own, outside of that concept).
Course, unlike with a lot of the rest of DC's more convoluted plots, I just flat out was never invested enough in Hank's character to do the mental gymnastics it takes to try and unpack everything they did with him back then. Like, attempting to make sense of the constant 'everything you thought you knew about Hank Hall was wrong and THIS is the truth, at least until the next time we pull this shtick and do this all over again' twists to his character.....that was practically a full time job.
(Cut to twelve year old me, who was like I know I'm not getting paid for this, and I've got a strong enough grasp on capitalism by now to know that means I can quit at any time and that time is now.)
Like, they really did look at Hank Hall and go "this man is a wall and by god, we are committed to staying right here and throwing as much spaghetti as it takes until we come up with a random twist on his character that STICKS and magically makes readers actually give a damn about him!"
Arrested development voice over: They did not, in fact, manage to come up with a twist that stuck and magically made readers actually give a damn about him. But in the end, they still all went home eventually anyway, and that’s the story of how nobody ever ended up actually giving a damn about the character who was Hank Hall. And also Extant. And also Monarch. Maybe. Probably. Look, it was something like that, we’re pretty sure.
Anyway, the point of all this - in as much as I ever have a point which let's be real, mmmmm what would that be like, even - is that you, dear anon, might have managed to succeed where DC could not, a full twenty five years later: coming up with an angle on all that which actually entertains me enough to make it worth wading into all the Monarch/Extant bullshit.
Because if there's one thing I DO believe to be true of Hank Hall, no matter what time travel and Order/Chaos fuckery is afoot with his character....
Its that a Hank who went full supervillain?
Would absolutely be petty and obsessive enough to create an evil doppelganger of Nightwing just so he can a) get his jollies playing puppet master with the life and mind of someone who genuinely at times believed himself to BE Dick Grayson, b) make the real Dick Grayson look bad via the actions of his puppet Deathwing, the ultimate smear campaign, and c) throw him in the real Dick Grayson's face while saying 'look at him, he's you but faster' and gloating about how he made a better Dick Grayson than the real Dick Grayson.
Literally everyone else: Ummm, DID you though?
Evil Hank: No, I totally did. Look at my creation, Deathwing. He's totally a better Nightwing than the real Nightwing who I have definitely not been resentfully comparing myself to and falling short of for pretty much as long as I've known him. Hah! Ah hahaha! Ha hah! I did it! I finally beat Dick Grayson! This is me winning!
Literally everyone else: I mean, this is definitely something. We'll give you that.
Dick: Why does this sort of shit keep happening to me? I would like to know please. Like what am I doing, what am I putting out there that makes people so obsessed with beating me at the game of life without even first notifying me that we are actually in some sort of weird competition. I am a simple man who just wants simple things like to save the world and maybe hear his dad tell him he's proud of him, doesn't even have to be in that order. Like is there somewhere I can get a T-shirt that says "Weird thought but maybe I don't actually give a shit about beating you and being better than you and your insecurities are a you problem"?
Boone: I am feeling super attacked right now and I'm not even in this post.

Bridgerton Season 2, Episode 1: Here we go again (why)
After giving up on my recaps of season one because there are more fun things than thinking about this clusterfuck I thought I might as well try again with season two. I'm watching this while sewing, so we'll see how much of it will actually register in my brain. Fun!
Before I even press play I see the eldest Bridgerbro emerging from a lake with his thin white shirt clinging to his body. I'd like to have that muslin, please, but also, somebody was obviously obsessed with the 2005 Pride and Prejudice in their teens, eh (I had a friend like that, too)?
Oh, look, a recap. Let's establish again that Eloise has no manners because she's not like other girls, that Lady Whistleblower is a thing, that Daphne is the most boring sex offender ever (eugh) and that Simon is a hottie with mediocre writing. Also, the Queen is a bit of a bitch (can we have some George IV, please? He was fun!), Bridgerbro A has all the ~responsibilities~ and can't live up to his fullest fucktwit potential (he does try, however) and there was that Fake Pregnancy Tragic Jealousy Youngest Bridgerbro-Marina-Unfortunately Dressed Girl Love Triangle arc thing. I forgot almost all the names, it's gonna be great.
Let's skip the recap, it's boring and I have fabric to cut.
So we start out with Eloise emerging (beautifully, of course) from her chambers in her debut-meet the queen-be declared a diamond of the first water dress, but the maids seem really distressed. Nobody cares about the staff in this series!
The queen quips that she hasn't heard a word of Lady Whistledown since last season. Clever! She also comes to the groundbreaking conclusion that Whistleblower is probably someone from the upper class! As if the staff didn't have better things to do, even if I'd be fully satisfied with someone spilling all the tea on their superiors, I'd watch that.
We're back in the Featherington household who's in mourning, because Lord F got shivved back in Season 1. This doesn't make the dresses less un-fucking-flattering on Penny, because now there's no pattern to break up the surface, but I am spotting a nice Halloween orange-black stripe on one of her sisters, so that's nice (it would have been nicer if Penny could have had some of that, too).
The eldest Bridgerbro has had a haircut and looks far less Regency-ish now. I'm disappointed. Now he's boring as well as a horrible fuckboy. Eloise gets rescued from being introduced to the queen and deemed less of a diamond than Daffy by the newest gossip girl post Whistledown letter being carried in, and the monarch is far more into the society's dirty laundry than watching a girl squirm in a formal setting.
And this thirst for tea concludes the first episode, accompanied by a "Dearest Gentle Reader, did you miss me", which I should totally adopt for these re...
Oh, wait, there's the intro. That was only the first six minutes.
Welcome to Bridgerton, Series 2, I guess.
Dearest Gentle Reader, did you miss me? Also, can I just have a series on the adventures of the street urchin (or course, polished in disney park-esque Bridgerton fashion, no dirt anywhere, not here, no, gentlefolks) who delivers the Whistleblower Gossip Girl leaflets?
The actress of Penny gets to break out her native Irish accent - if you want more of that, give a listen to Whistle Through the Shamrocks, which she also co-wrote and co-produced - while we get to see behind the scenes of the Lady Whistledown operations. Turns out, the Irish maid of Lady Gossip Girl actually does care about the lower classes. Nice.
Back at the Bridgerbore House we see Eloise, who must be seventeen or so at this point and is played by someone of my vintage (cool, I could still play a teen, that's so reassuring!), endure dance lessons with a twelve-year-old as her partner. Aren't there enough older brothers around that seem to have nothing better to do? Then again, with Regency dances, the height doesn't matter anyway. I'm just happy to see more of the younger Bridgertons, because we don't really know them yet and they might prove interesting enough to get invested.
Followed by some exposition where Ducktail Colin is hanging out at the moment, apparently he's chilling in Albania. Eloise's hair looks so much better this season! On the other hand, Lady B's dress looks like a Seventies house coat, and not the good kind.
Antony is holding auditions for a wife. We get - pretty people pleaser who keeps adding to her potential number of children to win the guy's approval - overwhelmed 1940s time traveller - harp lesbian who doesn't read -probably not the 80s coiffed blonde who's bed he's just getting out of (he's got a nice ass but gives bad tips) - about fourteen year-old polyglot overachiever (is it problematic that she's played by an asian actress?) (you can do so much better, girl) - someone who actually has a face and prefers a quadrille over him - a girl who is pretty creative and even MAKES HER OWN HATS CAN I DATE HER WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM BRIDGERBRO? - another non-elegible badly tipped sexworker (brunette) and that's it. He seems quite anal about it and he has a list of questions. And he actually has to work to keep up the estate for once, which I find an adequate punishment for his existence as a whole. This tires him out so much that he has to have a somber trot around the park in the early morning hours (after tipping badly). This is when we see someone who obviously knows how to handle a horse gallop across the glen, but because the person is wearing a skirt our Bridgerbro instantly thinks she's having trouble with her car mount. She's obviously into the chase (and we love a hooded cape-on-horse situation) and, I admit, very fucking hot. Wait, is she that one girl from Sex Education? Makes sense, she was already super pretty there.
She's too cool for you, man.
Also, stop mansplaining.
Apparently Too Awesome For Antony (who's name seems to be Kate, but I'll keep referring to her as TAFA) is a guest of Lady Danbury's, together with her mother and younger sister. Bridgerton is a very dad-less series.
She has a corgi (negative points for Danbury for looking at him in a non-dog-adoring way). Named Newton. She's definitely too good for the fuckbro.
"Her Majesty is most... discerning, you understand" Translation: "She's a straight-up bitch, but she's fun to gossip with" - Lady Danbury
TAFA is 26, which makes her an old maid in the Bridgerverse, but she's too awesome to care, and I hereby vote on her staying single, or, if she desperately must wed the Idiot, her divorcing him shortly after and continuing being cool on her own with only casual very bisexual adventures. Yeah? Yeah.
She's also a super supportive older sister and they seem to have a really sweet bond. That's what I want to see, thank you! TAFA keeps telling Danbury off for thinking anything less than stellar of her little sister, which I think is such a boss move - Danbury is cool, don't get me wrong, but she's a bit of a meddler and not informing herself of the girls' education is a gross oversight that I feel is a bit out of character for a schemer like her?
We get some bestie time with Eloise and Penny, and while Eloise's hat is weird (what is it with the midcentury stuff this season?) I kind of enjoy playing them off each other's characteristics. Also, mourning doesn't seem to be a thing outside the Featherington house? Is it over already? How long has it been? What is Time?!
Speaking of the Featheringtons, their lady's maid still looks like a cheap copy of Downton Abbey's O'Brian. WTF is up with that.
TAFA and her sister attend the first ball of the season. There's the Vitaming String version of Material Girl playing in the background, ironically so, because just a minute ago TAFA told her sister that fortune and title are no useful pointers to a partner's qualities. Danbury, however, does the song justice and basically draws up a financial spreadsheet for all the eligible bachelors and widowers she can find.
Enter the Bridgerblerghs, I enjoy Benedict (can he get some screen time and a boyfriends, please), Eloise is okay, Antony I don't like and Lady B is embarassing him by shouting about the room that he's in need of a wife. Parents, am I right?
Apparently TAFA's and Edwina's mum has some sort of scandal attached to her because all the evil mothers (which, of course, excludes Lady B) are gossipping away at her sight. Oh gasp, she apparently married a commoner who already had a kid (TAFA, that you?) and her parents totally disowned her for that, at least mentally.
As a side quest we get Lady Featherington being not-so-subtly bitched at by the parents of the guy wooing one of her daughters, including jabs at her short mourning period (the colour of her dress is stunning for her, I have to admit). She's playing the Recently Widowed card to get out of them asking for her daughters dowry (maybe not the place for that, in a public place and all, can't you make appointments for that?) which she can't pay because she's broke because her husband gambled everything away and then got shivved for it and not she's got to wait for some unknown distant cousin or somesuch to take over the estate and the paying of things.
TAFA and Edwina get introduced to some stuck-up looking guy who's about twice the length of Edwina (there's also a dude with unruly red hair who seems to always get the shorter end of the stick, we'll see if he gets to be more than a background joke). Danbury and TAFA keep bitching at each other (well, the bitching is mostly on Danbury's part) while we get some exposition on societal rules.
Somewhere between the curtains that lavishly decorate the location Penny is casually eavesdropping on gossip for her next column. Eloise drops by, pursued not by a bear but two suitable young men who would read every wish from her eyes if she didn't rebuke them. She apparently just scribbled Lord Byron or other celebs onto every line of her dance card, which I think is funny, and I'd like to see that encounter.
All the while, TAFA is already looking kinda sadly at the guy she is TAF, and while he's outside with his frat bro fellow bachelors (the phrase "wed, bed and bred" occurs and I feel a bit sick but it would be a shame because I had really nice cheese cake for breakfast) she is, of course, also stepping out. We've all been there at parties, trying to casually stalk a guy we much later realise we're much too good for. TAFA overhears this horrible bullshit and still isn't appalled because Bridgerbro said he wants a wife with some brain and wit, and because hormornes suck she's probably thinking something along the lines of "hey, that's me!". She trips over something, he hears she's there and it's all rather uncomfortable and a bit cringe. However, she tears him a new one for being a sexist idiot and thinking that anyone who meets his standards would actually want anything to do with his sorry ass.
Nice.
She compares his character to his horsemanship (which is sufficient) and leaves him standing there like the complete idiot that he is, and of course he's intrigued now. I mean, who wouldn't be, but does it have to be that guy? I'd be okay for her to marry Benedict, even if I still have hopes for him to be queer! Just not Aaaantony.
Back inside we have some more Eloise and Penny, and while Penny wants to sneak off on Gossip Girl business Eloise tells here that she's happy to have her and with her never has to be alone. If that's not a hidden sapphic confession I don't know what is. Just let her be a lesbian? Please? Can you spare some queerness, sir? *begs in London street urchin*
Benedict is a brat to his mum and I love him for that.
The aftermath of the ball (which TAFA left in a hurry, probably because the eldest Bridgerbro is an idiot) is narrated by Lady Whistleblower, and we see said Bridgerbro burning a program of the opera singer he still dated last season who had not been mentioned again.
I'm so annoyed by the whole "diamond" business. What is this, Topmodel? Just as annoyed and bored are the youngest two Bridgertons who I hope go and run away with the circus because that's always fun and I think we could use some of that aesthetic here. Oh fuck, no, that's not the two youngest, it's Eloise and Background Joke Bloke, he just looked so nervous that I mistook him for her twelve year-old brother. Poor boy. Fittingly, he goes off to play marbles with the actual two youngest in a corner, good for him!
We also see the return of the milliner/dressmaker with the fake French accent from last season. Didn't Benedict have a thing with her? Yeah, he did, and she's not interested in rekindling that. He continues to be a brat to Antony, rightfully so. More of that, please, the guy needs roasting.
God, I hate Antony so much. "I'm looking for perfection", yeah, but Perfection isn't looking for you, so sod off.
While in the Bridgerton household people are annoying but happy, the Featheringtons continue to struggle, with Lady F even trying to sell Penny's books. The middle sister keeps pestering Penny about what she's writing and is generally insufferable, and we learn where the Whistleblower pages are hidden (it's a floornboard).
Lady Danbury is a smoker. She is also telling TAFA that she knows all about her morning rides and accuses her of an ulterior motive in coming to London. Also, yes, TAFA is the commoner's daughter. Turns out, her step-grandparents will provide for her mother and her sister's dowry, but only if the latter marries a good English lad with a title because they still have commoner trauma from their daughter. TAFA rants on how she would, if she could, marry for her families safety and how English tea is horrible if you grew up in India. Danbury seems to be able to respect that and sets out to scheme Edwina into The Diamond *da-da-daaaaaah* It certainly doesn't help that the queen apparently took the girls' mother's departure from London all those years ago as a personal insult and continues bitching at her.
Benedict continues to be a lovably sarcastic fuck as Eloise fumbles through her introduction with the queen, accidentally making a good impression. Afterwards the queen bee (Cressida!) and her cheerleaders come to her and Penny's uncool kids table to woo her into becoming one of them, but Eloise proclaims that she's rather die. Penny and her share a nice moment in a field of daffodils which I distinctly remember from my childhood as being full of ants, so that must be uncomfortable. Penny almost confesses to being Gossip Girl and Eloise talks about how being perfect Daffy's sister is no fun at all. The scene is lovely, and I get it when Penny talks about being invisible and that being fun, too. Also, that's a really cute dress on her for once, I love the stars! (Also strong roommates vibes, I approve.)
What I don't approve of is the switch back to the ballroom and the queen. And the season's diamons iiiiiiiisssss... *drumroll*
EDWINNIE! Good for her!
The look of disbelief, relief and love that the sisters share upon this announcement is so cute, they play this dynamic so well, it's a shame that Antony Bridgerton is in this show. Who can't do anything but step up and insert himself in the scene of Edwina shaking hands with the queen because of course he wants to marry ~The Diamond~ even though she looks like she's fourteen and scared. And their first fucking interaction is him asking her about her thoughts about having fucking children, what the fuck is wrong with you?! God, this all seems so wrong.
In lack of a father (again, everything is very dad-less) older Bridgerbro needs to get the blessing of Edwinas sister to marry her (five minutes after meeting her for the first time, this is some Disney princess level bullshit right there) who, as we already know, is none other than TAFA.
Some cringes later the camera switches to the Featherington home to show a pile of old shit, hat boxes and taxidermied bears which, to be honest, could be mine. The new heir has finally arrived.
He looks like a grown-up, handsome Michael Cera?
And he's funny. This is the stuff I want to see!
For once Lady Whistledown and I are of one mind when she calls out the ludacrisy of the whole diamond business. And with this rare occasion, the episode is finally over.
Good for you if you made it to this point! But beware, it's...
...to be continued
Rating: Three diamonds out of a liquor cabinet
Series I'd rather watch: - Dishing Out and Serving Tea: Downstairs Gossip Girl - The Adventures of Little Pip, distributer of scandal - Penny & Eloise - Scribble & Sleuth - something where Eloise and maybe Penny meet Lord Byron

Shifted Pieces IX
The Phantom Monarch
The final AU in this series! Sorry I kept you guys waiting so long for this one.
Flora, the Soulless Vessel
Flora is a creepy flower that becomes obsessed with Frisk. She insists she just wants to protect humanity.
Mettaton, the Caretaker of the Ruins
Mettaton took over the Ruins to gain an audience. He’s got the whole place decorated in dedication to himself. Soon, he may be able to find a better venue.
Undyne, the Loner
Undyne is something of a renegade Royal Guard who sneaks into the Ruins every once in a while to capture a human shortly after they enter.
Asriel, the Watcher
Asriel’s been looking for ways to prove he’s mature and responsible. Maybe he can do it by befriending a human?
Chara, the Snowdin Sentry
Chara runs the Royal Guard unit in Snowdin. They insist new humans should be killed and their Souls taken.
Sans, the Captain of the Royal Guard
Sans was encouraged (or rather, nagged) by Papyrus to get a job. So he became a Royal Guardsman. He didn’t think he’d actually become the Captain, but hey, he’s pretty good.
Papyrus, the Royal Scientist
Papyrus decided the best way to get people’s attention would be to become a scientist! Not everyone really understands his work, but he certainly tries hard.
Alphys, the Hotland Celebrity
Alphys decided the best way to spread some hope around the Underground was to re-enact her favorite anime for them live on TV. It... kinda works?
Napstablook, the Ruler of the Underground
Ruling the Underground was more than Napstablook ever wanted. They just want to see their cousin again...

Do you recommend watching Princess Silver? I heard they're such a strong power couple which got me excited after watching Monarch Industry/TRP but I also heard something about them using each other and the FL is a hypocrite getting mad at him when she did the same and the thing is he didn't go through with it when she did? How soon does that misunderstanding get cleared up and do they stay together throughout the entire drama? That's what I'm expecting if they're a power couple.
If you don’t mind spoilers, I have a pretty lengthy and hella spoilery Princess Silver tag I am gonna link at the end of this, but the short answer is that despite a big wtf aspect of a (happy) ending, I loved the drama and yes the OTP is pretty ride or die for each other for the bulk of the drama.
Re: using each other and misunderstandings - well yes but where would we be without that sort of thing? In a fluffy drama? Shuddering at the thought.
They have an arranged engagement - she enters into it looking for some stuff in his city and he woos her for similarly mercenary reasons. They fall for each other for real, but yes she misunderstands something and there is breakup and angst. (FWIW at that point she sincerely gave him her virginity having long fallen for him for real, so I can see why she loses her mind. Agreeing to a political engagement/being pleasant and spending time with someone for information is a whole other level of magnitude heinous than divesting a period aristocrat of her virginity outside of marriage merely to pursue an investigation (or so she thinks.))
That is all fairly early in the drama and resolved fairly early. There is plenty of other angst, including “must push you away for your own good” type of stuff which I love but mmv.
FWIW, I love the OTP in this but it’s yet another drama where Luo Yunxi competently steals the show. His whole character and arc and relationship with the heroine (he’s the emperor she’s his sister) is a huge spoiler that is revealed in the last few eps, upends the whole narrative for me, and left me seriously wishing this was a drama about them and they were the endgame. I mean I love the canon main OTP but that was so tragic I wanted an AU of that narrative so I could roll in it like a dog with a bone.

Doc/Lion oneshot in which Lion can’t keep his fingers off Doc, and Doc can’t keep his feet off Lion ;) (Rating E, pure PWP, ~4.3k words) - written for @icezero09!! Thank you again for commissioning me, I’m always stoked to be able to write for you :) Your prompts are a real treat 💖💖
.
Doc never looks more enticing than after a long day. There’s just – there’s something in his features, a softness where others might look haggard, and it must be his love for the job, his endeavours to help and protect his colleagues, his friends, the general populace. Instead of allowing the everyday stress to wear him down, he often takes moments to remind himself of the good he’s doing. The good he’s done. And so, his slightly sluggish movements carry a gentle quality, his rare smiles are full of gratitude and his aura one of grace, poise, even dignity. He relishes his time to himself, prefers drinking coffee or tea and reading over de-stressing with others, stretched out on the bed, bedside lamp casting warm shadows.
Lion stares at this beautiful man and all he wants to do is fuck him until he screams.
Listen.
He’s drawn to competence and authority already, and encountered a few nearly embarrassing moments when he and Doc were still at odds – the other Frenchman hissed a sharp command and Lion’s first instinct was to roll over, present his belly. Doc is overflowing with life experience and knowledge, and paired with his regular no-nonsense attitude, he’s so perfectly Lion’s type that if he were asked to describe his ideal husband, all he’d do is point at the other man. He oozes attractiveness in a way it makes Lion’s brain short-circuit, and it does things to other parts of his body he has trouble hiding more often than not.
It might be his lower brain speaking right now, however. The same brain which takes note of the sliver of skin visible between Doc’s boxers and his loose shirt, allowing for a few salt and pepper hairs to peek through, the brain which pays close attention to long legs and beautiful fingers, to the juicy-looking bulge, the prominent nose and the fierce scowl -
“No”, says Doc not for the first time.
“Please”, replies Lion, also not for the first time. His breathy pleas have turned into petulant whines but he doesn’t care – all he can focus on is Doc, Doc, in the perfect position to squirm around Lion kneeling between his legs, or maybe swallow Lion’s cock lazily while pretending to read, or get edged to oblivion and back, sweat beading up on his forehead and desperation rising -
“I’m tired. We can do it tomorrow, Olivier.”
He might as well postpone it to the next century. Need has replaced all the blood in Lion’s body, thrumming through his veins and setting him alight for no other reason than Doc being here, in front of him, waiting for Lion to shatter his composure in the most elating way. So far, he hasn’t even touched the object of his desire, merely kneeled down next to him on the mattress, bathing in his lover’s presence; but his body betrays his thoughts. His large erection is painfully visible in his underwear, straining to be set free, twitching now and then, whenever Lion briefly obsesses about one of the things he wants to do to Doc. “Please, Gustave”, he whispers, full of emotion.
It strikes a chord. Doc pauses, book sinking, frown softening. No victory yet, but he’s got his attention. When an attentive and appreciative gaze rakes over Lion’s mostly bare form, he stiffens, holds his breath, allows for his lover to take him all in and judge him – it’s something he found terrifying in the beginning and oddly reassuring now: Doc seems to constantly re-evaluate him and always decides he’s worth it. “Tomorrow”, his lover echoes, sounding weaker than before. He must’ve seen something he liked.
On instinct, Lion sways towards him, following breadcrumbs in the shape of an unconscious lip bite, a gaze flitting to and fro, dropping down to his boner repeatedly. He’s stopped by a foot on his naked chest, a warm sole obstructing him. He breathes against it, makes it rise in time with his inhales, and tentatively brushes over the calf with his fingertips.
They’re staring at each other, hypnotised. The air thickens around them, plump with implications and silent dares.
Doc indubitably meant it as a sign to leave him alone, but when Lion’s dick jumps once more, he seems to understand he’s achieving the exact opposite. His foot twitches, then wanders upwards. “You’re so needy, Olivier.” His voice is low and full of hesitant promises.
The slide of skin on skin drastically increases the temperature in the room. “I am”, he confirms quietly and tilts his head towards the questing limb. Their eyes are glued to each other and neither of them blinks; for once, Lion feels like the prey and not the predator. He’s not surprised he likes it, not when Doc fixes him with a look this intense.
“If I let you, you’d fuck me all night.” A toe drags down Lion’s lower lip and his breath hitches. “Every night.”
He’s never been this fucking aroused in his entire life. “I would”, he agrees and closes his lips around Doc’s big toe. The embers glowing brighter and brighter in coffee brown eyes now ignite with a flash, rising and rising the longer Lion sucks without breaking eye contact. He’s got him now. He sees Doc’s boxers swell in his peripheral vision.
“You’re indecent.” It’s not an insult. Doc pulls his foot free and travels back down, his wet skin leaving behind a cool trace doing nothing to calm the roaring inside Lion. “Utterly obscene.”
The moment Lion feels pressure against his rock hard cock, his eyelids flutter powerlessly. He resists the urge to falter, to fold, and remains perfectly upright despite the foot exploring his crotch roughly, yet his face heats up even more. It’s a mixture of normal stimulation and feeling stepped on, which is thrilling in its almost-humiliation, but since it’s Doc, there’s a warm security behind it too. Doc loves him. And right now, he’s in charge for once. Lion’s lips part in preparation of a moan which never comes, because when toes finally rub over his cockhead, the resulting desire exploding outwards closes up his throat.
Doc is electric and electrifying, even the lightest touch causes muscles to tense and passion to skyrocket – he contours Lion’s balls with the back of his foot, then drags the heel over his aching erection and elicits half-strangled gasps of disbelief. Lion wants him so much and yet is frozen in the moment, held at bay by the promise of more teasing. “You like this.” Not a question. Doc seems gleeful, filled with delight over having discovered something about Lion all by himself, something of which he likely wasn’t aware himself or else he would’ve divulged it readily, hoping for Doc to exploit his knowledge.
And he’s correct. Lion never knew how fucking sexy being touched like this could be, but he’s beginning to suspect that anything Doc does to him is the epitome of desirable as long as Lion’s in the mood. And is he ever.
“Please”, he repeats, the phrase empty but the intention clear as day. He needs more.
Displaying a smug smile, Doc discards the book fully and settles in more comfortably in the cushions, all without moving the leg connecting him to Lion. “What am I supposed to do with you, Olivier?”, he mutters, self-satisfied, and rubs over the entire length of Lion’s cock, making him shudder. He looks like a benevolent monarch, regal in his generosity, curious gaze leaving burning hot trails on Lion’s skin.
“You’re so fucking gorgeous”, he can’t help but choke out and Doc’s cool façade breaks to reveal a bright, genuine smile. Once again, the atmosphere shifts, Doc gives up some of his power despite still being mostly in control, and Lion understands they’re on one page now. They both want satisfaction. He’s already planning ahead, wondering in which position he should take Doc, how long he’ll spoil him before burying himself deep, and he can already see this helpless, devoted expression Doc always gets when he’s being invaded, so full of wonder and -
“Can you get off like this?”
His thoughts screech to a halt when his glans slips between Doc’s big toe and the second one. The sound he produces is ungraceful but Doc’s interest is piqued nonetheless – he massages his lover’s shaft with his sole, pressing down on all the right spots and, well, Lion figures the answer to his question is a resounding yes. He can basically feel the precum oozing out.
“Take off your underwear.”
The brief respite he gets while shedding the last piece of clothing does nothing to calm his blazing need, not when Doc mirrors him and reveals his own swollen cock, resting heavy on his belly and calling to Lion. He wants to taste it, touch it, worship it, but when he reaches out, he’s stopped by a playful: “Don’t touch me.” So he sits back, almost drooling, and eyes Doc’s nearly naked form longingly. His shirt rode up even more, putting his toned abdomen on display, and Lion would sacrifice a few fingers to be able to swirl his tongue through Doc’s navel right now.
When his lover grabs the lube from the nightstand, Lion experiences an almost Pavlovian reaction: lust shoots through him, white hot and blinding and all he can think about is how he’ll sink into delicious heat soon. He barely manages to get out a quiet yes before noticing Doc’s lifted eyebrow. Seems like it won’t be that easy after all.
“Needy”, Doc repeats and returns his foot, touching the tip of his toe to the glistening head quietly leaking in neglect and alright, they’re back to this – not that Lion is complaining, finally there’s skin on skin contact and the way his foreskin rolls over all the sensitive spots is addicting, but he still hasn’t taken his eyes off Doc’s proud erection. Testament of his attraction to Lion. It’s this thick and dark only because of him, only because he’s letting Doc give him a footjob and loving it.
Finally, he picks up on the expectant air around the other Frenchman and it clicks. So they’re playing a game today. “I’m a horny dog”, he breathes, voice breaking when the pressure increases to an almost unbearable level just for a second. “I should be punished.”
Doc’s grin is brilliant. “You should”, he concurs and spreads his legs. Fucking Christ. Lion’s gaze is glued to the entrance now visible, taunting, inviting. He can’t reach out and brush his fingertips over the rim, can’t lie down to lick over it like a kitten, can’t glide inside to unload deep, deep inside Doc – but he wants to. Dear God does he want to.
“Please, Gustave.” He’s a broken record at this point. Hips are starting to move, pushing back against the warm limb slowly driving him insane, seeking to increase the friction, wring every bit of pleasure out of the sensation he can, and the result is better, a lot better, but not good enough. His breath is stuttery and the small thrusts aborted; he’s trying hard to hold himself back.
“Is this what you want?” Doc reaches down and pulls a cheek apart, exposing himself even more obscenely and fucking hell, he’s cocky. Lion isn’t sure where Doc got this sudden boost of confidence but it’s blisteringly hot to see him sprawl like this, put himself on a silver platter. He does look delicious. Lion wants to devour him whole. “Hm? Is this it?”
A thumb touches the pink hole which pulses in return, constricts, and Lion can feel it around the base of his cock, the phantom sensation impossibly strong as his hips strain forwards against the unwavering resistance. “Yes. Fuck yes.” Words largely elude him over the sensual sight right before his nose.
And then he has to watch, frozen in disbelief, as Doc pours lube over his own fingers before returning them to their previous place; and with Lion staring, open-mouthed, Doc rubs over the rim slowly, coating it, and eventually pushes one digit inside.
Lion’s brain malfunctions.
This is too much to handle, Doc is too much to handle, and he just can’t. Following a moan, a muffled, despairing sound, Lion wraps a hand around Doc’s calf and keeps it in place as he thrusts his entire length along the soft sole, never once taking his eyes off the finger pushing in and out steadily. He needs this stimulation and so he takes it for himself, humps Doc’s foot like a drowning man and whimpers when the toes curl around his glans on every upstroke. The lazy smile on his true love’s face, the way Doc’s body accommodates all, his own finger and Lion’s sudden outburst, it’s exhilarating.
“Slow down”, Doc requests gently. “You’re meant to enjoy this.” But it’s impossible, how can he expect Lion not to run wild when he adds another finger so casually as if he’s used to it – and he can’t be, not like this, not when Lion insists on being the one to prepare him every time they have sex. He relishes in the noises he tickles out of his significant other, works him open with patience and adoration each time, teases and rubs and thrusts until Doc is red-faced from the effort of holding still, from slight embarrassment and love and anticipation. Doc is used to Lion’s fingers, not his own, so how can he smirk like the cat that ate the cream when he’s -
Doc moans, cock twitching.
And Lion fucking loses it.
He wasn’t even aware of how his pleasure spiked the moment Doc started fingering himself, didn’t really notice how fucking primed and ready he was, how affected by the consistent teasing – and if he’s honest, he doubted that a foot alone would turn him on this much. But the friction was delectable, and paired with the shapely leg attached to it, the entirety that is Doc lounging on the mattress, all honeyed words and fiery looks, it was entirely too much.
With a high-pitched whine, he zooms past the point of no return before he realises what’s happening and when he does, he’s horrified. He’s not going to shoot inside Doc if he comes now, he’ll just ejaculate all over his leg and shit, that’s embarrassing really. Scrambling to stop the process, he pushes the offending foot away, ceases all stimulation trying to prevent his climax, but it’s too late.
Or is it?
Because all that happens is his cock pulsing and sperm leaking out weakly, so instead of the usual fountain it’s nothing more than a sad dribble down his shaft as he shakes from suppressed need – it flows over his balls and drips down right onto Doc’s foot.
“I’m sorry”, Lion mutters, not only for the shitty orgasm but also for making a mess, and he wants to continue by offering compensation when Doc rumbles: “That was the hottest thing I’ve ever seen.”
And this is when Lion realises that he’s still painfully hard. That his lust hasn’t disappeared. He raises his gaze to meet Doc’s and is shocked at its intensity, amazed when he sees his lover reflect the same amount of desire he’s projecting. They still want the same thing, if Doc’s scissoring fingers are anything to go by, but Lion feels raw and overstimulated after the not-quite orgasm, so he does the first thing that comes to mind.
He begins licking Doc’s foot clean. Simply raises it to his face, noting as his lover’s stormy eyes darken, and pushes his tongue between the wet toes. If his heartbeat wasn’t already going a mile a minute, it certainly does upon Doc adding a third finger inside himself. Even so, Lion dedicates himself to his task, lavishes the flesh before him in attention and enjoys every second of it. His fingertips dig into muscle and massage the arch dutifully while his mouth takes care of the rest: sloppily slurping up the mess he made, lapping at each toe individually and sucking on them in succession – he doesn’t stop until it’s clean again, and even then he keeps going. Doc watches him, grateful, entranced, and when Lion finishes by placing a soft kiss on every toe, some of the tension in his features melts into appreciation again.
“I love every part of you”, Lion says, because it’s true, and smiles when Doc’s cheeks deepen in colour. Finally, finally, his lover pulls his fingers free and motions for him to come closer, and Lion wastes no time practically diving on top of the other man to smash their lips against each other. The entire length of their bodies slots together like two puzzle pieces interlocking, and all this contact is the best kind of overwhelming after having been touched so little previously – they’re constantly in motion, rubbing their legs over each other, pressing their chests closer, running hands over every bit of skin they can find, and all the while Lion slowly takes Doc apart with his tongue. He explores Doc’s mouth as if it was the first time, ravishes it with abandon and swallows all the groans coming from their stiff cocks dragging over each other.
“Come on, Olivier”, wet lips mumble against his between mind-numbing kisses, “I want you inside.”
And fuck he does not need to say this twice. Lion wrestles his better half out of his shirt and longingly eyes the sculpted chest which he’d normally lavish in attention, but with the way his dick is thrumming impatiently, he simply doesn’t have the nerve. Before he can begin to look for the lube, Doc has already slicked up his hand again and wrapped it around Lion’s shaft, making him flinch momentarily. He’s sensitive, overly so, the pressure from before and the not-quite orgasm left it raw and throbbing, yet the callouses on Doc’s fingers feel heavenly despite the slight discomfort.
It feels like an eternity with Doc letting his fist glide up and down in a pace so slow it does nothing but heighten Lion’s arousal, and the entire time they keep making out deeply, tongues dancing, lips sucking on any piece of flesh before them. This is one of Lion’s favourite pastimes – just kissing, without any specific intentions. Kissing for the sake of kissing. They’ve started a few days off by just locking lips for an hour and seeing where it gets them, and more often than not both of them end up short of breath, vibrating with anticipation and hungry for more.
Doc’s hands are even more skilful than his feet in getting Lion off, and so he actually has to grab his lover’s wrist to prevent another too-soon climax, especially when deft fingers begin massaging the underside of his head, sending jolts of pleasure through his body. They separate just long enough to hold eye contact when Lion enters him, and he’ll never get enough of watching Doc’s eyelids flutter shut when the thick head breaches him fully, of the way his mouth falls open on a silent moan. Muscles relax, features go slack, and he’s Lion’s. Wholly his. This is the moment in which Doc gives himself up, hands himself over to his lover.
He’s incredibly hot and tight, welcoming the flesh pushing inside by clenching down on it in waves and prolonging the initial slide in – not that either of them mind. Lion buries his face in the crook of Doc’s neck and just breathes, focuses on the soothing smell, the blissful feeling of becoming one with the one he loves and the aimless patterns Doc draws on his back as they both bask in each other’s presence.
“You feel good”, Doc murmurs and it’s all the encouragement Lion needed. He latches on to the skin of his lover’s neck, sucking a bruise onto darker skin, and grinds against him with deliberate motions, rubbing deep. The resulting noise is music to his ears.
For a bit, he concentrates on shallow, hard thrusts while marking Doc all over, claiming him with light bites and more hickeys, but it doesn’t satisfy either of them. Lion’s cock is aching, rearing to be put to good use, and so he gives in to the primal urge.
Rising up, he fixes Doc with a sweltering gaze and plants a last sloppy kiss on his mouth before he does the very thing he’s been wanting to do every since he stumbled over Doc all spread out on their shared bed: fuck him until he forgets which day it is.
Their moans mingle in the space between them and all Doc can do, helplessly, is scramble for purchase, hold on to Lion’s sides as he’s rocked by every brutal thrust into his welcoming hole – he looks adorable, in a way, all caught up in the ecstasy of having his sweet spot hammered. Lion drags him onto his cock by the hips, meeting him halfway with his own and slams home mercilessly, bathing in the uninterrupted stream of noises Doc creates as usual: muffled groans, disbelieving gasps, throaty moans. Lion absorbs it all, lets it fuel the pulsating desire driving him.
“Hold your feet”, he demands in between sharp snaps of his hips eliciting strangled sounds, “yes. Just like that. Fuck yes.” And there’s another spike caused by the view in front of him, by Doc grabbing his own soles and holding his legs up and apart, pink skin turned towards Lion and his heavy dick beautifully showcased again. He’s lost in the moment, in the sensations – they both are, and Lion briefly has to struggle to keep up his brutal tempo.
Since he half-came earlier, his stamina is impressive, but it doesn’t only have advantages: he’s struggling to climb, trapped in perpetual stimulation which only just isn’t enough even though Doc clamps down on him so marvellously every time he rubs over his prostate, even though Lion can feel his glans getting caught on Doc’s rim on every thrust. His hair is sweat-soaked, Doc’s skin is shiny and despite the fast movements, he’s not quite there.
Seeking that last bit of pleasure which will push him over the edge, Lion begins worshipping Doc’s body as hardly anything turns him on more quickly than being allowed to explore, adore, map out his lover’s skin. Doc stretches towards his touch, melts below his fingertips and just won’t stop growling in satisfaction while Lion strokes over the expanse of his chest, teases the erect nipples and pushes a thumb between reddened lips. But even when Lion reaches between their legs and starts jerking the bone hard cock so familiar to him, even when Doc whines and tosses his head to the side and nearly loses grip of his feet, even when he’s shuddering in overstimulation, even when Lion’s heart is so full of devotion, he can’t come yet, can’t -
In frustration, he leans in and trails his lips along the pretty feet displayed for his pleasure, captures cute toes in his mouth and wraps his tongue around them, and in return, Doc produces the most desperate keen Lion has ever witnessed him make. With the next breath, he moans out Lion’s name, and holy fuck that’s it.
Bent over the love of his life, Lion almost collapses when the first wave of pleasure races through him like a truck. He goes blind for a second, clawing at anything in reach, probably leaving more bruises, and stutters out a loud groan as his climax ripples through him with so much intensity he briefly loses himself. At the edge of his consciousness, he registers Doc writhing under him, caught up in his own orgasm, and the realisation that they’re coming together has Lion’s abdomen tense up almost painfully, heightening the relief shooting through his system as he comes deep inside. They pant together, hold on to each other as they ride it out, moving in unison and relishing their release.
They keep moving slightly while coming down, cause gentle friction and reassure each other with soft touches, and it helps ground them. Lion trusts his lover fully and so he lets loose, allows for the post-orgasmic afterglow and exhaustion to settle in comfortably without having to worry about anything. Once their breaths and heartbeats have normalised, they exchange a grin and disentangle themselves: Doc lets his legs fall, Lion pulls out and gives Doc’s spent cock a last tug, and then they stretch out next to each other, sighing and interlacing their fingers.
A minute is spent in warm silence during which they both savour their bodies’ memories, and then Doc scoots closer to nuzzle Lion’s ear, his body probably cooling down and the milky stripes covering his chest aren’t helping. “So”, he purrs, sounding smug again, “you have a foot thing, hm?”
“I didn’t even know”, Lion laughs and kisses Doc’s nose. “But I’m fairly sure it’s just your feet.”
“Flatterer.”
“As if you mind.”
“You know I don’t.” Doc seems extremely pleased with himself. “Is this going to happen every time I just want to read after babysitting our co-workers all day?”
Lion snorts and gathers the other Frenchman into a tight embrace until their hearts beat against each other and their limbs are intertwined in a way they won’t unravel even when they sleep. “Are you implying you wouldn’t want that to happen?”
And the only reply he receives is an amused grin. Which, he notes not without significant self-satisfaction, is not a no.

New Reputation: Taylor Swift shares intel on TS7, fan theories, and her next era
Snakes begone. The 29-year-old superstar is back with a new album and a new outlook on life. We go inside the pop monarch's latest chapter.
THE PALM TREES ARRIVED IN FEBRUARY, seven in all, set against a pastel blue backdrop with superimposed stars. It appeared that a new Taylor Swift era was upon us — that the old happy-go-lucky Taylor was not, in fact, dead. Or did it? It wasonly an Instagram photo, just one more picture in an infinite content scroll. But it also came from a pop star known for prodigious hint-dropping, whose fans turn every piece of info into an online archaeological dig.
As expected, the summery post sent Swifties sifting through each detail with a fine-tooth comb. What did the trees symbolize? An overdue vacation? A recently purchased beach house? A secret palm-frond collection? Or maybe, as many surmised, it was new music. One Twitter user predicted that the number of stars in the background of the photo hinted at a single drop: “There’s about 60/61 [stars]️. There’s 61 days until April 26, FRIDAY, a SINGLE RELEASE day!” Another said it was the unofficial announcement of her next LP: “Okay so in this picture there are 4 palm trees on the left (4 country albums). There are two palm trees on the right (2 pop albums). There is one large palm tree in the middle. This represents her new album.” These may sound like ludicrous conspiracy theories — for the record, they were mostly correct — but they fit firmly within the Taylor Swift Musical Universe (it’s like the Marvel Cinematic Universe but with more guitars and fewer Stan Lee cameos).
“I posted that the day that I finished the seventh album,” says Swift about the photo. “I couldn’t expect [my fans] to know that. I figured they’d figure it out later, but a lot of their theories were actually correct. Those Easter eggs were just trying to establish that tone, which I foreshadowed ages ago in a Spotify vertical video for ‘Delicate’ by painting my nails those [pastel] colors.”
It’s now April, and the 29-year-old pop star is in a Los Angeles photo studio, giving her first sit-down magazine interview in three years. She wants to discuss the art of placing hints inside her work, as well as the upcoming record, which she recorded as soon as she finished the Reputation Tour. She’s also keen on detailing her own obsessions, talking up the TV shows, books, and songs that help shape her outlook on life.
Over the past 13 years, Swift has perfected the pop culture feedback loop: She shares updates about her life and drops hints about new music, which fans then gobble up and re-promote with their own theories, which Swift then re-shares on her Tumblr or incorporates into future clues. It’s like a T-Swift-built Escher staircase of personal memories and moments that tease what’s next. “I’ve trained them to be that way,” she says of her fans’ astute detective work. Swift is a pop culture fanatic herself (see: the jean jacket she’s wearing on the EW cover) and has an innate understanding of the lengths her audience will go to be a part of the original creation. “I love that they like the cryptic hint-dropping. Because as long as they like it, I’ll keep doing it. It’s fun. It feels mischievous and playful.”
Through this approach, Swift has designed the ultimate artistic scavenger hunt — and it’s easy to get swept up in its drama, even if you don’t listen to her music. Her moments aren’t always hidden, either. Sometimes Swift highlights aspects of her world just so fans feel like they’re on the journey with her. Like the time in March 2018 when pop singer Hayley Kiyoko was accused of shading Swift after mentioning her name during an interview. On Tumblr, Swift re-shared a fan’s post, adding commentary that defended Kiyoko, which immediately dispelled any conflicts between the two artists; Swift’s post subsequently received more than 29,000 notes. Four months later, she invited Kiyoko on stage during the Reputation Tour to sing her hit “Curious.” Kiyoko returned the favor when she had Swift join her that December at a benefit on behalf of the LGBTQ organization the Ally Coalition to perform “Delicate.” Fans of both artists were elated by the mutual support.
The feedback loop also extends outside of music. In October 2018, Swift broke her silence about politics by publicly endorsing two candidates for office in her adopted state of Tennessee, while encouraging her followers to register to vote. She kept up the civic momentum through Election Day when she asked fans to post selfies after voting; Swift then eagerly re-promoted her favorites on Instagram stories.
This practice of sharing and re-sharing and sharing again is why listeners consider Swift one of the world’s most accessible pop stars, someone willing to not only interact with her audience but invite them to secret listening sessions, or make the occasional surprise visit to their wedding or prom. It’s a symbiotic relationship, one that, as Swift tells EW, helped her dig out of the darker era of reputation. “It’s definitely the fans that made that tonal shift in the way I was feeling,” she says. “Songwriters need to communicate, and part of communicating correctly is when you put out a message that is understood the way you meant it. reputation was interesting because I’d never before had an album that wasn’t fully understood until it was seen live. When it first came out everyone thought it was just going to be angry; upon listening to the whole thing they realized it’s actually about love and friendship, and finding out what your priorities are.”
Then, during the Reputation Tour, she had an epiphany: that despite the caricature that she thought had been created of her, there were many people who saw what others had simply refused to. “I would look out into the audience and I’d see these amazing, thoughtful, caring, wonderful, empathetic people,” she says. “So often with our takedown culture, talking s— about a celebrity is basically the same as talking s— about the new iPhone. So when I go and I meet fans, I see that they actually see me as a flesh-and-blood human being. That — as contrived as it may sound — changed [me] completely, assigning humanity to my life.”
At tour’s end, she channeled that positive energy into the studio, recording the new album in just under three months. But the fast pace won’t mean a short LP. Swift confirmed that her seventh record (she hasn’t announced a title yet; the working nickname among fans is TS7) will include more songs than any of her previous releases. “I try not to go into making an album with any expectation,” she says. “I started to write so much that I knew immediately it would probably be bigger.”
The project will also feature a mix of old and new collaborators (on the candy-coated lead single “ME!” Swift brought in Panic! At the Disco frontman Brendon Urie and coproducer Joel Little, both of whom she had never worked with), but she is unsurprisingly coy about doling out much more information, as if doing so would break the carefully honed T-Swiftian feedback loop. “There’s a lot of a lot on this album,” she says. “I’m trying to convey an emotional spectrum. I definitely don’t wanna have too much of one thing…. You get some joyful songs and you get the bops, as they say.” There’s also, she adds, some “really, really, really, really sad songs,” but “not enough to where you need to worry about me.”
She gives us one more clue: The true distinction between TS7 and reputation is in the delivery. “This time around I feel more comfortable being brave enough to be vulnerable, because my fans are brave enough to be vulnerable with me. Once people delve into the album, it’ll become pretty clear that that’s more of the fingerprint of this — that it’s much more of a singer-songwriter, personal journey than the last one.”
The past month has seen a deluge of Swift activity, from the release of the new single to dropping more hints in interviews about the record and its title, which is apparently hidden somewhere inside the “ME!” music video (current fan guesses include Kaleidoscope and Daisy). But if the Easter eggs from the pop star seem like a business-as-usual routine, she says this album does indeed mark a new era of her life, where she’s been better able to prioritize what’s important to her.
“Our priorities can get messed up existing in a society that puts a currency on curating the way people see your life,” she says. “Social media has given people a way to express their art. I use it to connect with fans. But on the downside you feel like there are 3 trillion new invisible hoops that you have to jump through, and you feel like you’ll never be able to jump through them all correctly. I — along with a lot of my friends and fans — am trying to figure out how to navigate living my life and not just curating what I want people to think living my life is. I’m not always able to maintain a balance, and I think that’s important for everyone to know about. We’re always learning, and that’s something that I also had to learn — that I’ve got to be brave enough to learn. Learning in public is so humiliating sometimes…. Do I feel more balanced in my life than I ever have before? Um, probably yeah. But is that permanent? No. And I think being okay with that has put me in a bit of a better position.” Strong words to live by, to quote, to re-share, to tweet back to her, and see if she’ll respond.

New Reputation: Taylor Swift shares intel on TS7, fan theories, and her next era
By: Alex Suskind for Entertainment Weekly Date: May 9th 2019
Snakes begone. The 29-year-old superstar is back with a new album and a new outlook on life. We go inside the pop monarch's latest chapter.
THE PALM TREES ARRIVED IN FEBRUARY, seven in all, set against a pastel blue backdrop with superimposed stars. It appeared that a new Taylor Swift era was upon us — that the old happy-go-lucky Taylor was not, in fact, dead. Or did it? It was only an Instagram photo, just one more picture in an infinite content scroll. But it also came from a pop star known for prodigious hint-dropping, whose fans turn every piece of info into an online archaeological dig.

Could you please tell me about the Discworld book you mentioned in that second reply of yours? Thanksiessssss!
Oh, absolutely! I love any reason to talk about this book! Monstrous Regiment is such a gift. For the record: nothing I’m saying in this post will be a “spoiler”–i.e., if you want to read the book, nothing I’m telling you will ruin your enjoyment by knowing it ahead of time, trust me. Most of it is on blurbs and marketing material anyway. So!
Monstrous Regiment is about Polly Perks, a citizen of the small, poverty-stricken, war-obsessed country of Borogravia on the Disc, which is a large flat planet balancing on the back of four elephants who stand on the back of a giant turtle who flies through space. As you can guess, all Discworld books take place on the Disc, but this one is a stand-alone book: you don’t need to have read any others to pick this one up and enjoy it, which is why it’s among my top five for recommending to new readers. (This is a hint, please read this book).
The book begins with Polly cutting off her hair, putting on a pair of trousers, and joining the army as Oliver “Ozzer” Perks–which will feel familiar to anyone who knows old folk songs or trope names. Ozzer signs up in the hope of going to find her older brother, who she hasn’t heard from since he signed up a year or so ago, and she’s got this plan that she’ll find him and bring him home, somehow. Borogravia is… a mess of a country: they’re bullied by their god, Nuggan, who keeps updating the Abomination list in his holy book and their monarch, the Duchess, hasn’t been seen in decades–suspected dead, but the country refuses to admit it. The continuous wars with their neighbouring countries hasn’t helped prospects either, and everyone is starving.
Polly’s new regiment is a tiny motley group of lads, including a couple of the usual young runaways joining up, but also a vampire, a troll, and an Igor (yes, like that Igor; they’re all called Igor). They’re told almost at once they’re to be sent to the front line, which is, uh, bad news when there’s not enough equipment left to fit out a mouse and they’ve had no training whatsoever, so their savvy sergeant does what he can to get them ready on the journey there while their hopeless nerd of a lieutenant does what is truthfully his best.
The whole time, of course, Ozzer’s trying to keep her identity secret… but here’s what’s so very fun about this book: she’s not the only one. If you’ve ever thought, “One Mulan in the war gang is fun BUT what if there was lots of them, all trying to out-boy each other, all thinking they’re the only girl in the group being super crafty by putting on pants and sneaking into the army,” I have very good news for you re: many of the characters of Monstrous Regiment.
It’s a satirical fantasy novel, so it’s overall a comedy–but because of the subject matter of war and occasionally abuse, it’s also pretty dark in places, so do keep that in mind! It’s not at all grimdark (none of that “gritty” “realism” stuff, nothing gratuitous), but it’s an honest reflection of some realities of the world, and sometimes the world sucks. I definitely think it’s worth reading, though, even though it’s sometimes heartbreaking. I’ve read it so many times over the years and I’m sure I’ll read it many more times in years to come. Truly a gem of a story.
#monstrous regiment#discworld#book recommendation#by the way if you want to read it but you're worried about specific topics that you're sensitive to you're welcome to IM me#i'm always happy to answer stuff like that but i don't want to do it publicly since sometimes that does go into ~spoiler~ territory

Mulan au (Magneto´s idea)
N/A: As the name suggests this is about Magneto´s idea of weed Michael and Lorna and finally wrapping around the other plotline here.
@djinmer4 @dannybagpipesarecalling @sailorstar9 @discordsworld @bamfoftheundead
Magneto got from a reliable source, his own granddaughter, that Michael Pryde is indeed interested in women and did like Lorna, of course, like and marriage are different things, so, Magneto is bidding his time. Giving information about the location of the Ravens was a sacrifice the monarch had to endure thinking the reward would be worth, and in the end, it did, Kitty does trust him.
(ok, that´s a big stretch even Magento can´t ignore, but, let´s say Kitty is willing to talk with the King now)
But, the point is, Magneto is forming a relationship with Kitty and everything is going smoothly as Magneto propose an idea for Kitty and Michael´s father, James Pryde.
"Weeding is a great thing, my friends" Magneto has now a forlorn expression as he looks at the picture of his late wife, Magda, a bad marriage does not mean is out of love, at least, that´s how Magneto sees it.
"You only marry once" Kitty states not in a rude fashion but in an engaging way. Magneto never married again after his wife die and no one knows why. Some say is because of grief and something he really shouldn´t marry again.
James Pryde is a bit concern that this statement could bring Magnto´s famous temper at the surface, but, today they are luck as the king is only nodding peacefully. This is not a subject that angers him.
"As you did too. Yes, I know about your wedding with Max, the Jewish community loves to tell this story" Magneto explains and James is amused as he elbows Kitty gentle on her shoulder as if this proves a debate between them. Kitty rolls her eyes amused.
"Yes, big mom here marry our great ancestral Max and that´s why me and my family are here" James states proudly and Kitty loves to see her grown up son acting so childish.
"But, I think you´re not here to talk about the wedding without a propose, so, Erik, what do you plan?" Kitty asked amused to Erik that was expecting this and is picking the right words.
"My daughter Lorna is not someone with luck with love, the first and last man she picks break her heart in tiny pieces as he runs away with the bridesmaid on their wedding day" Erik speaks with a dark tone and Alex Summers must pray every day to never meet Erik or any other member of Maximoff family.
Kitty is horrified at this story. James is waiting for the next line coming from Magneto. "Poor woman, is she getting better?"
Magneto smiles at this question. "Yes, she is getting over, but, this comes to the reason why I call you two here...I think Michael and Lorna are a couple that should be more incentivized"
"I have no idea they were a couple, to begin with," Kitty speaks crossing her arms now and James adds "you want to marry my son to your daughter, well, as much I'm thrilled with this, and trust me, I´m, I´d know now that you can´t force anyone to marry each other"
"Of course, I´m not here to demand anything" and somehow Kitty and James disagree "but, I want to know if Michael´s family would support a relationship between Lorna and Michael. No pressure here" again they aren´t buying "my daughter never smiled like that as she did when she dance with your son, Mr Pryde, and I´d want to see my daughter happy" Kitty can detect this is true along with ''I want my political interest to be meet as well''
James Pryde and Kitty Pryde look at each other for a moment. "Look, again, weed my son is something I would love to see, my mom did prove to me that force a son or daughter to weed is stupid, so, Magneto...this should be a conversation that Micheal and Lorna should have now"
Not exactly what Magneto wanted to hear, but, this is better than a rejection. Plus, Lorna is aboard of his plan(once he did explain the importance of this union and how Micheal is way better than Alex Summers)

Kurt Wagner is here to deliver a gift to Talia. Is a gift to celebrate her successful mission that impresses everyone, even Kurt himself, Wanda is ignoring his presence by locking herself in her room and chatting with her friends via a magical mirror.
Talia finally found her father and really adored the present. "Thanks, dad, how is the circus?" she asked happy to see her father and to win a nice gift.
"Oh, same old thing" maybe Kurt elaborated his reply when he sees James Pryde and Kitty Pryde talking and smiles widely at that ignoring Talia face-palming herself.
And Talia is not surprised to see her father going after Kitty and James. "Hello, Katzchen," he said amused and smirks at James who is utterly confused. "Magneto call you two here?"
"Yes, to discuss marriage between James´s son. I personally think Michael should be here" Kitty speaks in an authoritative tone and looks at James "but I´m really happy to see you pass this obsession to compare all the weedings to mine and your ancestral, son, Michael is free to make his own choices"
"Yes, mother, I just...want him to be happy as you and Max were" James explained shyly and the necromancer blinks as if he arrived just now.
"Excuse me, son? Who is Max?" Kurt asked confused but trying to play smart.
"My husband and the man that generates the Pryde clan, well, we did generate the clan, this is my son James...I´m the big mom so to speak because, well, I did make the clan so...is easier to just call me mom than anything else" Kitty explained chipper and James is crossing his arms amused at Kurt and judging him at the same time.
"Oh, right, of course...And you two agree on the marriage´s proposal?" Kurt is doing a great act here by pretending he wasn´t fooled or isn´t feeling embarrassed.
"Uhm, this decision is to Micheal and Lorna to make" Kitty states and Michel suddenly look at his watch(either is the tiniest watch ever or James is making fun of Kurt)
"Mom, we have to go, remember? we promised Sophie to help with the celebration"
"Oh, right, thanks son, bye Kurt, we see each other later"
The necromancer will have a word with his advisers as right now the man really is trying to set his mind straight.

New Reputation: Taylor Swift shares intel on TS7, fan theories, and her next era
Snakes begone. The 29-year-old superstar is back with a new album and a new outlook on life. We go inside the pop monarch's latest chapter.
Alex Suskind

Peggy Sirota for EW
THE PALM TREES ARRIVED IN FEBRUARY, seven in all, set against a pastel blue backdrop with superimposed stars. It appeared that a new Taylor Swift era was upon us — that the old happy-go-lucky Taylor was not, in fact, dead. Or did it? It was only an Instagram photo, just one more picture in an infinite content scroll. But it also came from a pop star known for prodigious hint-dropping, whose fans turn every piece of info into an online archaeological dig.

Snakes begone. The 29-year-old superstar is back with a new album and a new outlook on life. We go inside the pop monarch's latest chapter.
By Alex Suskind May 09, 2019
THE PALM TREES ARRIVED IN FEBRUARY, seven in all, set against a pastel blue backdrop with superimposed stars.
Dress to Oppress – Walls and Overalls
Today, we unravel the threads of time and tradition, and weave a new norm.
The dilemma of deciding what to wear is universal. But in an age where gender and sex are spectrums rather than definite lines, we must re-examine the stereotypes (‘tom-boy’, ‘slutty’, ‘sanskari’) we have woven with respect to the clothing choices of those around us. Furthermore, questions like “Who wears the pants in your relationship?” only deepen the scars of prejudice, and misguided notions of masculinity and/or power. Such erroneous judgments continue in assigning gender and/or sex to colours. While in the early 20th century, the trade publication Earnshaw’s Infants’ Department, mentioned that “pink, being a more decided and stronger colour, is more suitable for the boy, while blue, which is more delicate and dainty, is prettier for the girl.”, by the 1940s, the tide had turned altogether. However, regardless of this timeline, an earnest plea to the reader would be to leave the rainbow alone.
Then, there are those who advocate ideals of equality and freedom of choice, and admonish men wearing dresses (read Jaden Smith at prom), all in the same breath. Say, if a woman wore a tuxedo to her wedding, one would witness all dainty facades of acceptance and support flying off the shelves. Admittedly, open-mindedness is easier in theory than in practice, and hypocrisy a smoother path to traverse than honesty. The question is- are you willing to take the road less travelled?
Further, dear reader, recall the stunning, overexposed shots of testosterone-fueled, muscled men, armed with spears and shields, skin slick with sweat, clad in plumed helmets and fustanellas (a traditional Greek skirt) in Zack Snyder’s dramatic fictionalized retelling of the Battle of Thermopylae within the Persian Wars. Fixated as you may be on the seeming juxtaposition in the above description, of brave men wearing skirts, I shall clarify, that I speak of the box office success, ‘300’.
Moreover, consider the Scottish, who, in donning the kilt, were concerned with convenience and comfort for their male warriors and employed several practical uses of the garment- apart from shielding one’s body from nature and clothing one’s frame. The kilt could serve as a camping blanket, and was worn over a full-sleeved garment stopping below the waist (léine); loose-fitting, it enabled the wearer to make distant, long marches with agility and to wade through rivers. The upper half could be worn as a cloak over the shoulder, or brought up over the head for protection against the weather. Now, as queer (in more ways than one) as it may seem for some, to witness warriors donning an article of clothing reserved for the ‘weaker’ sex, when you come to think of it, it may be wiser and more comfortable for males to don skirts and females to wear pants, for obvious anatomical reasons.
Having said that, one should be free to clothe themselves as they see fit, regardless of the anatomy of their body. This free will is embodied in Megan Fox’s parenting style, whereby she abstains from enforcing stereotypical dress-codes for her children; in conversation with Jimmy Kimmel, she mentioned how her son, Noah, likes to wear dresses sometimes. Parents all over the world should take notes from the Transformers star, who said, “…there are no rules- you can be whatever you want to be in my house!” Moreover, skirts have made their way into men’s fashion through celebrities; Jared Leto, David Beckham, David Bowie, Jaden Smith, Kanye West and Vin Diesel have all worn skirts proudly.
Why, though, must we view these developments as achievements to be proud of, rather than commonplace occurrences that are treated with normalcy? I suppose we have, indeed, come full circle- where once, Luisa Capetillo and Katherine Hepburn went against the tide and donned trousers, the garment of revolt (the former went to jail for the supposed ‘crime’, though charges were dropped later), the dawn of the twenty first century brings with it the campaign for men to freely wear ‘feminine’ clothes. This is baffling, juxtaposed with the fact that cultures across the world started out with simple, flowy, dress-like garments meant for both the sexes - from the Roman toga, to the Indian lungi, and the Japanese kimono (to name but a few) - which were differentiated and altered into gender-specific clothes. Having said that, the response to the present hue and cry for gender-neutral clothing has not been met satisfactorily; despite the promise of equality, the unisex garment has essentially been of a ‘masculine’ style. Needless to say, we have miles to go in this area.
But clothes aren’t where it all ends; cosmetics form an integral component of fashion trends and the way one wears them (or doesn’t, depending on one’s preferences) reflects a person’s projection of themselves as much as their clothes do. Men have found their footing in the cosmetics industry, debunking the myth that makeup can’t be ‘macho’. This comes amid a larger investigation into traditional gender boundaries in fashion and beauty, alongside the growth of internet-famous beauty fanatics who have built followings via social media. Take, for instance CoverGirl’s latest face, James Charles, 17, a high school senior from Bethlehem, N.Y., with nearly 650,000 followers on Instagram and over 90,000 subscribers on his YouTube channel. Following suit, Maybelline unveiled their first ever male model, Manny Gutierrez, the 25-year-old “beauty boy”, with a whopping 3 million followers on Instagram and 2.1 million YouTube subscribers.
And then there is the eventful history of high-heels. From Medieval Persia to Carrie Bradshaw, the elevated shoe has come a long way. Initially donned by Persian noblemen as riding shoes, the heel enabled a steadier stance so that the rider could shoot his arrow more effectively while standing up in the stirrups. European royals took notice when Persian monarch, Shah Abbas went to tour European courts around the 1500s. And so the Persian style shoes were adopted by the aristocracy who felt it lent their demeanor a masculine edge, until it was eventually taken over by women.
Cut to the present, where more men are adopting the style originally meant for them, dispelling invisible boundaries and gender norms. In 2014, Yanis Marshall auditioned for the talent show Britain’s Got Talent; the part French, part British dancer combined his passion for dance and his undying love for high heels, and along with his two friends Arnaud and Mehdi, won the hearts of everyone who was watching. Sure-footed (in 6-inch heels, no less) and sassy as can be, the trio stunned the crowd and received nothing but adoration and respect from the judges, with their up-beat and bold moves on numbers by the Spice Girls and Beyoncé, among others. When asked why he dances in high heels, Yanis replied with the same answer he has always uttered, i.e.- “Why not?”
And truly, that is a question we must all ask ourselves. Why can’t men wear high heels? Why must make-up be withheld from the masculine? Why should women worry about being looked down upon for wearing a tuxedo instead of a dress? Can the walls we see around us be crossed and broken? More importantly, who built them to begin with? In part, we all are culprits, and these walls stand testament to our crime. Every naysayer has placed a brick and a dollop of mortar. It seemed a small contribution at the time- but then, no individual water drop holds itself responsible for the flood.
And while, as a general rule, things are easier to break than build- these walls are standing exceptions. We must all resolve to make a small indent, to chisel away yet another bit of prejudice, and to bury away our notions, in order to break the walls that separate us from each other, and ourselves. For, there are those amongst us who do not identify as either male or female- everything is not, after all, simply black or white. But this human tendency, an obsession almost, to put things into neat, tiny little boxes, has imprisoned some of our own; the breaking of these walls may be the first step for some of us to see ourselves in the clear light of day and do justice to who we truly are.
After all, walls are only so good as long as they protect and support us. But when they begin separating us from reality, and each other, it’s time to start considering cutting a few doors into them. And even if we don’t find the courage to cross those doors immediately, at least we’d have let in a bit of light from the other side.
