I really did like how Gun talked about the specifics of what people asked him that made him feel so wrong about his own sexuality and how much of it was either about being sexualized or the heternormative assumptions people make. It was about being asked who would be a top or a bottom, who was the mother or father, it was about the questions you get from people outside a relationship making assumptions but it also definitely implied that he's been in serious relationships in the past and has experienced a lot of discrimination based on that, most likely from people he cared about and so he decided to stop caring but he didn't stop caring he just stopped interacting and that's so different. It isn't that he was able to stop caring or block his own emotions off, he just stop talking to anyone or letting them in close enough for their judgement to matter to him.

Gun closed himself off because he couldn't handle being judged, creating walls that pulled him away from everyone, including the people who did care for him as well and created this isolation that he now seems to take for granted.

But I wonder where Thyme fits into this. Is he an ex? Was he just a friend? Was he a friend who judged him? Their separation was obviously recent enough that the video game they've been discussing and planning and working on is still the same. Did Thyme judge him for gay or did Thyme watch Gun pull away from everyone for being judged and found he couldn't follow him where he went or handle the sudden coldness in their relationship?

I'm guessing you mean the CFAA, since I've already got Ad Astra running for the past year.

The answer is no. I don't allow RPF except for under very select circumstances (mostly because I don't want anyone's kids running across fanfic about their parents or something). I'm going to have Underage be a mandatory tag for any content that requires it, and also require those stories be archive locked. I also will have a much stricter tagging policy than AO3 does; you can already see how I run the ship on Ad Astra.

Which is to say, tags are actually useful as search terms.

Otherwise, this is also going to be a fairly genre-specific archive. AO3 is the general all-purpose archive, you can consider my two archives to be the 'specialists' of the fanfic archive set.

Aside the above restrictions, if it's legal in the US, it's allowed.

On the more cheerful side, I have a category for Fan Created Universes, so anyone who has ten stories in their 'universe' can have a fandom. We've got two additional, mapped relationship tags more than AO3: QPR for Queer-Platonic Relationships and vs. for adversarial relationships.

We're going to have primary and secondary character and relationship tags, too. Like-- right from the outset, the organization's going to be a lot more like a library and a lot less like a free-for-all.

That moment when an artist you really liked, who you haven't seen their work for while, you find them again but it turns out they blocked you at some point. I understand that Blocking means you do not want any contact from them for whatever personal reason, but I've never interacted with them? This isn't a call out post or anything, I'm just really saddened that someone I admired just Blocked me when I did nothing to them. Maybe they saw my Blog or read my Description and decided they didn't want this person to associate themselves with them. I would like to ask them just to be informed why, but being Blocked means you can't do that. I get it, but man, I missed seeing their work, and now that I found them again, and learned they blocked me, is such a bummer :(

this week was a bit scattershot.

started tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow by gabrielle zevin but couldn't get into it at all. idk if i'm just not at a point where i can enjoy it, or it's the writing style, but i had to dnf it. sorry to all the people who love it.

then, carmilla by amy chu, soo lee and sal cipriano came in from the library and tho i was really looking forward to it, i was kind of underwhelmed. the art is great, suits the story well and the character designs are fun (plus there were sketches in the back that were also great to see) but everything else (plot, character development, etc.) felt a bit rushed and underdeveloped. this needed to be longer, or a serial, or smth. it's being set up for a sequel, so i might check that out when it comes out.

feeling a reading slump coming, i borrowed the audiobook of i was born for this by alice oseman, cos i've been wanting to do a reread and, for some reason, got rid of my copy. aside from occasional sound quality issues, i'm enjoying it!

i'm also (finally) reading acceptance by jeff vandermeer, last one in the southern reach trilogy. i'm not too far in yet, so i'll update on that next week.

for manga, i finished vol 1 of jujutsu kaisen and have started vol 2. very good fun, he's really got a talent for facial expressions and detail at the appropriate moments

hopefully next week is less all over the place!
