Can i just say guys, holy fucking macaroni, like. I know i say this a lot, but the reception for hunger au has been like NOTHING ive ever experienced before, and im so incredibly grateful for it. Genuinely, from the bottom of my heart, thank you so much-- writing hunger au has probably been my best overall experience of 2023 and thats all thanks to yalls lovely comments, bookmarks, kudos, and asks i get in my inbox about it. whats the context for the burning picture? its not their nest that burned down that was sad? is that while theyre still in the permadeath world? i assume so since it mentions retribution? is this something to do with the vex arc we havent seen but obviously made things worse in new and different ways? can we appreciate how cool that art is and how impactful that scene feels even though i don't know whats going on entirely?

the burning drawing isn't one of their nest! the nest they will have at some point is built in a meadow, and it's high off the ground, built up, to cater to grian's instincts that he kept stifling for so long. (remember, he can't fly. he yearns to be high up, but can't.)

the burny burny from the art does happen while they're still in the permadeath server. it's a deliberate decision grian and scar make. they're not burning anything that belongs to them.

i will be writing a ramble about it at some point, so look out for that! :3 (if you look at the hhau masterpost, you might even spot a placeholder for it ready in the outline—)

i will say, it does happen during the vex arc. but it's not actually important, as no vexes get mentioned. it's an event solely between scar and grian, and i'm excited to tell you guys about it, but i need some time <3

at first i was chatting in korean and said "i like listening to sekai-san's voice, its so relaxing <3" and he said "ah korean comment, kamsahabnida" (sekai speaking korean ahh so cute hehe)

there are a few hc’s that have been sitting in my head a lot lately but !! current faves are :

rin with his s/o on his mind 24/7. it doesn’t matter how busy he is or if he has to rush home to make his hectic schedule work. you’re a part of his routine now, soaked into his flesh and psyche and so, it comes natural to him to park right by the nearest flower shop. rin, make sure you wake up to freshly cut flowers each and every morning - whether it’s right on your nightstand, the vintage vase in the hallway or sitting on the kitchen table neatly, rin always makes sure to grab a nice arrangement for u on his way back home from morning practice <3 he leaves while the sun still hasn’t risen and comes back two or three hours later when the sun rays just start to seep through and tingle at your closed eyes, pulling you from the deep slumber. one look to your side is all it takes to know that he’s back, though, as the different flowers seep their aroma into the room and tangle your vision with their bright colors. sometimes, when you need to get up slightly earlier or when his practice runs late, you open your eyes to him swapping the bunch out, the rustling waking you - and he gives a small hum when you reach over to tug at his shirt, warm from the dryer but already smelling so much like him and his cologne. “morning, love,” he glances your way the second he’s done and plops down next to you, leans over to press a chaste kiss to your lips. you can feel him smile against your mouth when your arms wrap around his neck - and it all settles into place, no matter what kind of day you have ahead of you <3

AND SECONDLY,,

rin, who’s not too big on any sorts of pda - the only times someone ever sees you two together in any kind of intimate position is at an awards gala or when a paparazzi manages to get a shot or two. (they always seem to catch the moments when he just cannot wait to have u any longer - some would think they’re seldom, but his patience runs short, and there’s more pictures of you two in a heated kiss than he’d like to admit.) the only exception to this comes unexpected most of the time, and is more subconscious than not. it’s when you’re sitting or standing anywhere in close proximity and his fingers twitch against yours - hand aches to feel all of your own. he gently wraps his fingers around yours, brings your hand up and without breaking eye contact or interest in his convo, he starts to mindlessly play with your hand. it’s sweet and languid, just a meantime activity as he talks - doesn't matter if it's with one of his friends, his manager or maybe some sponsor. proper big, yet soft hands keep playing with your smaller ones, fingertips running up and down your knuckles - tapping on your ring finger, as if in wonder and surprise that the spot’s empty. he’ll take care of it , though - rather sooner than later. <3

SECOND OF ALL this has been sitting in my askbox for way too long because i truly wanted to give like, a really nice thought-out and detailed reply to your question but alas after finishing chap 10 my brain is SOUP so thats,,, not happening anytime soon,,,, auaghh 😭😭😭😭😭 about all i can tell you are the broad strokes that in my head what happened was he sorta snapped mentally, asked people to join a secret game during the world's worst fugue state, fucked with their memory codes so they couldnt remember how or why they were on this unfamiliar server, and fed on their confusion and fear until things spiraled and the game had them truly believing their final deaths were permanent. Lifers' Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Vacation type beat 😭😭😭💀💀💀

As for reactions, i know each time they came back from the games they were VERY freaked out and traumatized, and for a few months afterward they'd feel incredibly paranoid until it tapered off back into normalcy, only for it to eventually happen again. Rinse and repeat

Grian's own feelings were pretty much a mix of horror, guilt, and disgust at himself-- but also a little bit of relief for being able to feed properly for once. Which, ofc, recycled itself right back into the disgust and shame. Mans was not having a good time over here either

Here's EINS! They're very friendly when you first meet them but aren't very forthcoming... it takes a while to build that trust. They're really afraid people won't accept the real them. But once you get that trust you have a friend for life!!! They prefer to lie their way out of situations but aren't afraid to use their halberd. They love to swap stories around the campfire and tease their companions mercilessly (but they do it with love!!!!) Wyll is their bestie and they would do anything for their family. In their "good ending", years down the line, I'd like to think they start their own hostel for weary travelers. :D
