Hi. As someone who hopes to one day start my own webcomic, I'm fascinated by how your deleted scenes archive features almost complete art that follows a widly different route that that of the final narrative. It's a bit mindblowing to me, honestly.

If I may ask, how does your process work? Do you follow the conventional script -> sketch -> final art workflow and just take "kill your darlings" to heart regardless of which step you're in, or do you use the art itself as part of your writing (and consequently rewriting) process?

My process is very unconventional and also very flawed in a lot of ways. But it's the process that works for me. Sometimes.

(This is gonna be really long by the way and also it's probably gonna be wonky and messy so be warned lol)

When it comes to making a chilli issue, and just most of my comics in general, I don't write scripts. Would making comics be a lot easier if I did? Probably. Certainly. Absolutely. But it's not my process. At some point I'd like to start writing scripts before I work on an issue, but it always just felt easier not to.

Instead of a script, I write a very rough outline in my sketchbook, with notes so illegible only I could read them. I often deviate from these notes as I'm making pages however. Sometimes I'm about to hit a story beat and I decide it can be done in a slightly different way, so I do that instead. But I don't differ too much from these notes. For the most part.

When it comes to dialogue, it's very on the fly. I may have specific character quotes in my head when I'm planning out an issue, but most of it is only written in the moment when I'm actually making the page.

In terms of art, Chilli has a very "simple" style, and that was on purpose. I used to draw final lineart in my webcomics, and I found it very tedious. What I'd often find is I'd like the undersketch of a panel more than the final art. So when I started making Chilli, I just used the undersketch AS the final lineart, and I developed and refined that style as time went on.

When actually making an issue, I start off by figuring out the panel layout of a page. Sometimes this can be edited as I work on a page, but this is where I visualize the panels ahead of time. Once the border is done, I begin to draw the lineart. Sometimes I make a rough undersketch for a panel if it's particularly complicated, but usually I don't do that.

Once the lineart's done, I go back and give a thick outline to all the characters, and any other elements in panel, to make them pop from the background. It also makes it easier to color the page. Because the coloring process in Chilli is so simple, I often just use the paint bucket tool.

Now for dialogue! Again, this is usually only written at this point in the process. Even if I know what HAS to be said, HOW I say it can be tricky to figure out. Once the dialogue's done, I create the speech bubbles, and then boom! Finished page.

On an average day, I can draw four pages of an issue, but this is far from my limit. If i really wanted to, I could make 5-6 pages a day, but my wrist would absolutely not like that lmao.

And so day by day, I work through an issue, four pages at a time, until eventually, I have a finished draft! Does this mean the issue is finished? Nope!

Once a draft is complete, I do a mini "round of edits," where go through and make little changes fit to my liking. This could range from editing dialogue to make it less clunky, to redoing an entire panel. Once this round is finished, I set the issue aside. I don't work on it. I don't even look at it. I need it fresh out of my mind.

Eventually, usually about a couple weeks before it's released, I go through the issue and do an even bigger "round of edits," rewriting even more dialogue and redrawing even more panels. I do at least a few more rounds of edits until I'm finally satisfied, and that's when the issue's released.

Sometimes however, things can go horribly wrong.

Issue 12 was supposed to be a completely different issue. It was supposed to be the start of a new arc, but as I was making the issue, I just found myself unsatisfied and not that confident in the story I was setting up. So I scrapped that attempt halfway through, and instead began work on the issue 12 that would eventually release.

"Red Meat" in particular was a very troubling arc to make. I made probably about 300+ pages for that arc, and I ended up scrapping over a third of that. I did not do a good job at planning out the story for that arc, and it ended up biting me in the ass later when I realized I didn't like where the arc was headed.

Issues 25 & 26 were both drafted at this point, and I didn't like either of them, issue 26 specifically. The problems they had couldn't really be fixed in rounds of edits either, they were fundamental problems. If I wanted to fix them, I'd have to scrap a lot of what I'd already made.

So I did.

I redid a lot of issue 25, and I scrapped that version of issue 26 entirely. It was for the best ultimately, but in the moment it felt very demoralizing having to scrap so many finished pages.

Issue 27 also ended up being way too long (like almost 70 pages) so I had to cut a lot of (finished) pages in that one too to keep the pacing up. I cut out a lot of good stuff from that issue, but it was for the best. Even after those cuts the issue's still tied with issue 12 as the longest chilli issue.

What happened in Red Meat was a worst case scenario though, and going forward, im gonna make sure that something like that never happens again. Because, fuck. It didn't feel good scrapping those finished pages lol.

My process is very messy and slightly taxing, but it's the process I'm familiar with. I would not recommend doing what I do, especially if you've never made a webcomic before, but instead to try and develop your own method that works for you! Different processes work for different people

I'm tired of seeing puppet Amity and emperor Luz everywhere, what's even so special about it? What's the appeal???

People see 2 seconds scenes without context and make it that episode's entire content 🤦

I don't know if ep 3 came out already but I'm not looking forward anyways.

…Angst. Angst and new designs which are probably the two most powerful motivators for The Owl House fandom. Why do you think S2A felt like it damn near cut the fandom down to its size?

This actually has to do with kind of fandom culture in general. The most visible part of a fandom is its artists. Their work is quick to consume, easily posted and reposted (with credit you'd hope but… sigh) and the easiest to take inspiration directly from the show for. Every week there'd be at least one screencap redraw that the fandom would do whenever a new episode came out. Honestly, the finale's big Lumity screencap redraw is really awkward looking to me out of context. It's not hard to see why these are so popular though. The reference is directly in front of you, it's a moment people are already talking about and you yourself probably liked the posing too so why not redraw it? It's a hell of a lot easier to do than come up with a bespoke story concept based off of each episode in a series.

That isn't to call art easy or the like, just that fanart is the backbone to a fandom for a reason, at least in my opinion. Twitter has a character count limit. Reading Fanfiction on Instagram blows. Tumblr is the closest to a place where longer form videos and stories can be posted and they still take MUCH longer to consume and share and without as much guaranteed return on effort spent. There's a reason the internet as a whole LOVES art from a commercial and consumer standpoint, even if they also keep trying to screw over artists because yaaaaay capitalism.

But screencap redraws aren't going to be everything. The more potential in the story, the more people will be able to come up with evocative concepts and stories and even make comics about the show. This was a BIG part of the fandom's peak between S1 and 2. Everyone had their own take on how Lumity would get together. Everyone had their own idea for how Amity might confront her parents. Amity in general was just a font of inspiration and the concepts with Luz weren't played out or felt contradictory to the more cynical character we got in S2 so angst with her about her mom, her world, etc. like that was still something everyone was tapping into, especially since it felt like the portal being destroyed was such a big deal.

I made a large Twitter thread the other day btw about how just shit the Portal Door is from a narrative perspective, first as a nitpick in S1 and then just a genuine problem in S2, because of it being gone, but that's a different blog.

But post S2A… What did you have? Camila's promise was never going to end satisfactorily, to the point where it goes from a moment of Luz being a good daughter to an almost inhuman monster towards her friends because it is handled so poorly. Amity is pretty much resolved outside of being happy to be Luz's girlfriend because she's already stood up to her parents, integrated into the rest of the cast and even already addressed the only piece of angst the show ever allows for her with her relationship and that's being an obsessive enough girlfriend. Sorry, I mean a good enough girlfriend. sigh Gus has had an episode but was overshadowed, Willow has had like a half dozen lines this half a season, King has been pretty much absent since his episode, Raeda was still mostly an Eda episode with literally every element of that episode just to shove Momma Eda down your throat…

It's not surprising that post S2A, the fandom has felt in general much quieter. Minus A: Huntlow and B: whenever they get a new design they can turn into Luz/Lumity angst. Everyone remember the teaser for the Collector's design that was done during a livestream and how that consumed the fandom for a little while because of possessed Luz ideas?

The puppet Amity and Belos Luz hype was effectively that. It brought even the casual artists back because they had a new, easily evocative design available to them that also had very obvious potential for angst. How many "I'M NOT LIKE HIM" pictures came out regardless of how weak any parallel between Luz and Belos is? Luz crying over a temporarily dead Amity is saddening, even if she's been little more than a puppet for the writers for a while now.

It's just how fandoms work. It's not even necessarily a bad thing. Dana has been VERY good at keeping the fandom alive during things like hiatuses. S1's hiatus is when the Betas were most popular because they dropped at a time when people were starting to wane from the show and now they had an entirely different angle to work from for anything Lumity they wanted to do alongside just good designs to draw. Most Lumity and Huntlow artists redo any piece that Dana does for the two ships. It's very effective for keeping a social media presence for your show honestly.

I won't even act like I'm above it. While I commissioned reference sheets for Rich Witch to make it easier to commission more artists for these characters, that wasn't the only reason. Rich Witch had a Reddit page (that I should clean up honestly) and its pinned thread includes the reference sheets and physical descriptions for the characters who don't have reference sheets. This is because I recognize that that makes fanart easier and that fanart is a lot easier to share than text blurbs. It is one of the ways to try and cultivate a following online nowadays or to help your fandom grow, at least in my opinion.

Can it be frustrating? Absolutely. I mean, Huntlow fanart has probably done way more damage to my interest in Hunter than anything else because it always emphasizes Hunter as nothing but a failure. Hell, it also emphasizes Willow's strength commonly and very little else about her character. Lumity has bored me for a long time in art because 90% of it is just cute fluff which isn't bad but it's not compelling. And I mocked both Belos Luz and Puppet Amity, despite the designs for them being good and the art being good, as shallow because narratively it means very little.

And the larger that disconnect becomes, the more frustrating a trend in the fandom is going to be. Plenty of people hate the Betas because they hate the edginess or the fact that a lot of people used them to start creating spicier material. There's not much anyone can do about that though. While a creator can try to promote a kinder fandom, fandoms are inherently too emotional and too large to really control outside of helping the show grow or find a new audience. It's just a part of that culture.

And frankly, I'm going to be bothered by the toxicity and inhumanity (guess what fandom will dox you for liking a ship between a bi girl and a straight guy?) of fandoms long before their art trends.

I'm going to be a little cheaty- since there's two fandoms I've written a chunk for, I'd leave it up to the reader as to which they'd prefer, but they both have a lot in common.

If someone was of the Metal Gear persuasion, I'd tell them to read "Rat in a Foxhole", which is a story that consumed my brain and I think I was smashing out a chapter a day or something, because I was SO INSPIRED by a piece of artwork (itself, an album redraw) that my brain was on fire and the only way to get it out was to put the words on the screen. The fic has a bit to do with some information we get from MGS 5, specifically that Huey had intended for his son Hal to be a child mech pilot (the pilots needed to be small because of the limitations of the size of the cockpit). My brain immediately got to wondering about what would happen to such a child pilot once they grew and "aged out" of the program (or the program shut down because wtf). Then I saw @polmcarts artwork of a version of Hal and Dave meeting in some kind of bootcamp and the plot was born.

It's a sort of... meditative fic? I often imagine my stories as screenplays, and if it was viewed in that way, there would be a lot of long silences, detail shots, vast open landscapes etc. It does, of course, include a drawn out winter arc because I'm that bitch, and it's got a few twists and turns before (of course) ultimately ending on a hopeful note.

Likewise "The Man in the Mask" is a Spideypool AU that envisions an alternate meeting, and one of the characters not being forthcoming with who they are and why they're there. This one was another story that was really burning a hole in my brain, although it took me a lot longer to get it out. Having a little Marvel familiarity (with mutants and the legacy virus in particular) helps, but I've had people tell me that I did a good enough of a job explaining the concept in the fic that they weren't too lost. This one reads a bit like a "bottle episode" with the two characters more or less trapped in a single apartment and making the best of it. (I guess you could say Dave and Hal were trapped in the boot camp in the first one, so there's that.) For a story about Wade and Peter, this one also has a lot of introspection and quiet moments before a few things bubble over.

Just like the first story, this one had people screaming at me before they finished off the last chapter, which I think is a bit of a feather in my cap as a writer, it means I sold the drama and brought things to a satisfying conclusion. I call both of these some of my "weird ones" because they're extremely niche AUs that I wrote for myself, so it really makes me happy when they ping with people. I wish I had ideas like these more often.

17. I kind of have a bug in my brain about doing a fantasy adjacent Earth-65 AU featuring "The Merry Janes" and I guess AUs of AUs counts as niche... Oh, god and I really want to write a 616 or NMCU (or combo) one about Matt and Foggy being academic rivals and complaining about each other online anonymously and becoming friends (and more) without realizing. I was watching a compilation of 90's/2000's anime intros and the beginning of "His and Her Circumstances" started spooling little ideas in my head. And now that I'm on a roll, my brain is like "Lol what if Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne AU" where Matt is a "holy thief" stealing/exorcising relics and Foggy is on the side of the law trying to bring him in sfdkdsjflj And of course there's the Madoka E-65 AU I want to flesh out at some point, but that might be a better comic than story. Moral of the story is, Anime: Not Even Once.

25. thesaurus.com LOL I don't actually do a lot of looking at resources when I'm actually writing and I don't have a lot of "go to" pages for things, it's kind of random. I will do searches for things like "what year was this thing invented", but I don't have a bookmarked tab of "popular weapons in ancient china and how to use them" or anything like that. I guess I use Youtube a lot to listen to vapor/chillwave mixes while I write, is that anything? I guess a resource I use is the sprintbot in discord (and my fellow server members) to help get my brain to focus. I keep meaning to try that website that has little doodads on it to help adhd brains focus on writing but i keep forgetting.

Daily Dragon #56 - Fygar

Another cute, arcade dragon! Fygar was always one I was gonna do eventually, and I didn't have a huge oomph to draw tonight so I figured this was a perfect opportunity for a simple one! Tried to do a new take on it inspired by a few different designs :)

Daily Dragon #57 - Percipitar

A mollusc-like dragon that swims through rivers and ponds, slurping up water to bulk up its pouches, then turns that water into clouds for fighting and hunting! Their shell is very hard, but the yellow flesh is VERY soft and gooey.

Since the last few were all redraws / fanart, I really wanted to make a brand new one today! Originally this was gonna be a poison mist spewing dragon, but I couldn't decide on a color/effect for the poison. And I eventually thought just regular water and mist powers were a little more interesting because we've already had a few poisonous dragons or dragons that spew stuff that has effects on enemies. Note to self, stop making dragons that produce some kind of toxic or mist???

Just for fun and some background because I have it here, this is the unfinished version of the picture when I was making it poisonous instead. I changed it at the last possible moment lol

Daily Dragon #58 - Mega Charizard Z

"Its head splits into 3 to become a menacing Hydra. While its brain power is divided in this form, its fire power becomes multiplied!" Not sure what type I'd make it? Maybe Fire/Fairy or Fire/Electric or something idk

Also I already have ideas on how I would maybe tackle this design a little differently so, maybe we'll see Mega Charizard Z 2 in the future

My brother found some ANCIENT art of mine in an old book tonight, so of course I had to redraw all the characters on it!

This fun little dragon is February's most popular dragon as decided by vote!! That means she gets new art! Soaring through the sky and flying by some migrating birds! Seems like she's having a magical day~

My personal favorite from February? There were a LOT of dragons I actually really liked. But ultimately I'm just really smitten with Percipitar! Been a rough month! March is gonna be rough too but we will get through it! Thank you all so much for your continued support!

Daily Dragon #61 - Rawrnosaur

A large, feral dragon with some odd properties. It has chameleon-like eyes, salamander-like skin, gecko-like tail, and a long lizard-like tongue. They're often found in places with more humid climates and eat tons of food constantly!

This is yet another redraw of an INCREDIBLY old monster of mine! This one is even older than the Feral Cave Dragon (which I found out is from 2011-ish) as this would've probably been before I was even in Kindergarten. Crazy stuff!

The original was found while we were helping my grandma clean her house, which is cute. Some things never change, I've been a reptile fan for life! I'm actually SO happy with how this redesign came out. I might have to go through and color it in later!

Daily Dragon #62 - Mountain Dragon

This dragon lives high on mountain tops, where it makes its lair. It rarely comes down to ground level, only occasionally to find shiny things to add to its horde or when food on the mountain becomes scarce. As such, they're a bit rare.

Been having a stressful week, so I haven't been having a lot of original ideas for dragons. So this is another redraw. This dragon from 2023 was just called "random dragon" in my files. So there wasn't much to work with aha

Hi hello from here as well. I would like to talk in depth about this chapter from my personal account. But before that, I would like for everyone to give a digital hug to @karereiko. Basically, when this chapter released I was in the middle of exams and then I literally went to study abroad just when they finished. This gave me little time to do the redraws. Kare decided to do all of them for this chapter and I'm very grateful to her. The redraws weren't easy at all. Please support her. I would also like to congratulate the rest of the team! You pulled this off, I'm so incredibly proud of you! There was so much text and it certainly didn't help that in some parts it kept repeating itself. Despite our busy schedules and timezones hell we made it. I cannot be happier to be a member of this team. They are some of the kindest and funniest people I know (and the most chaotic of course).

Now I will be talking about chapter 16. I advise you to read that chapter, before reading what I have to say about it

This chapter has a special place in my heart. Even though I'm not the HUGEST fan of this arc, this chapter in my opinion is the best from all the chapters of this spin-off. Before we released it, we checked it to see if there are any mistakes. I was one of the people that checked it. It was my first time reading it, seeing all the details etc. By the end of my reading, I noticed that I had tears in my eyes. Now this might sound a bit dramatic to you, and you might not necessarily feel the same after reading this chapter, it really depends on the person, but I was truly moved. I started feeling emotional at the father-daughter reunion. Images were stronger and louder than words. We have the father who is clenching his fist upon seeing his daughter. He has a resolution. He is determined not to give away his identity, even though a piece of it had slipped after he said his daughter's name out loud. The more he listens to his daughter, the more his resolution crumbles, as his fist is now trembling. It's a dilema. Does he embrace his daughter or does he just move on? After all, the whole reason he's doing this is to protect her. In the end though, he can't do it. Even if it's just for a moment, even though he believes this can't be his reality for much longer, he decides to go for it and embraces his daughter. Even though he is covered in bandages, you can see his facial expression. He is happy, he is relieved that his daughter is doing well and you can tell that he has missed her a lot, even without the words "I've missed you".

Later on we see William smiling, as his actions have brought a family back together and it's a bit funny but wholesome that he notices that Albert has noticed his smile. Also I'm not 100% sure about this, but I believe that this, chronologically, is close to the final problem (it surely hasn't been set to motion), so it's a rare sight to see William genuinely smile at that point.

The next thing I want to include is Albert's reaction reading that diary. It's so funny to me. So many braincells were lost XD

I love how Louis reaffirms William's existence. And it feels like a full cycle. In the past William was the one that reaffirmed Louis of his existence, but now it's Louis that does it. It matters that the photo has been cut in a way that William's face cannot be seen.

His arm can stretch at length, though doing so causes pain, like stretching normal human skin by it's limit yet never tears or ripped.

Four Forms:

1 - Claws

First form after infection and entering host. Sharp claws and flexible fingers, basically theirs no existing bones when changed and basically a pile of blue spaghetti in the form of a arm. Can unravel at any moment to use tentacles to either hold items or try to hold something back.

2 - Blade (Copied)

Second form, copied from Jack Krauser infected arm-blade. 'Fingers' fused together and protruding blades and elongating them, materials can be from bone and mixture of metal or iron, can cut through anything. Can stretch the blades and mimic a wing to block and stop incoming bullets.

3 - Grapple/Piercer

Third form, simply unravels and re-ravels itself like a single tentacle, almost used as a grapple to reach higher cliffs and ledges opening up like a flower to grapple on anything. Can be use as a weapon too by piercing any nearby enemies and throwing them across.

4 - Fist (Copied)

Fourth form, copied from a tyrant. Like the blade, they fused into a giant muscle for power and punch, yet is has a limit and has tears on the fused arm. The tears causing gas-smoke to spew and leak.

A/N: Thank you for participating in my first Choose-Your-Own-Adventure round, I'm so happy you guys enjoy the idea! To no one's surprise, most of you picked option 3. I'm sorry Part 2 took so long but I wasn't happy with Geralt's face so I had to redraw it a couple times. Was going to redraw Jaskier's too but I just want to get it posted! This is a bit longer than Part 1— enjoy!

Geralt glances at the kid sleeping on his shoulder and back to his bandmate, Eskel. "No, you boys go ahead," Geralt says, voice hoarse from a night of screaming into a microphone, "I'm staying here with him. Meet you back at the hotel."

Eskel sends a sly smirk towards Geralt. "Fine, but you have to clear everything up for tomorrow."

"Hmm," Geralt responds.

Once his bandmates leave, Geralt takes a few moments to admire the sleeping young man snuggled against him. Aside from learning that his name is Jaskier, the two hadn't spoken to each other whatsoever. Talking is usually the last thing on Geralt's mind when he invites a guest backstage, but for some unexplainable reason Jaskier had piqued his interest. His face is round and youthful, especially while he's asleep, but the lines under his eyes give away that he is older than he looks. Geralt wonders if the baggy hoodie and swooping hair is a way for Jaskier to cling to his youth.

Geralt slowly shifts himself, carefully placing Jaskier's head on the couch armrest, who is still snoring softly. He begins to gather the various guitars and drumsticks the band had strewn around the greenroom and zip them back in their cases. He grabs the wartorn acoustic that has been with them on every tour, and gives it a light strum.

Jaskier's eyes flicker open at the sound, and when Geralt notices that he's awake he joins Jaskier on the couch once again.

Geralt begins to strum a tune Jaskier is familiar with. In fact he's familiar with all of Rivia's songs. To Jaskier's delight, Geralt begins to hum the melody.

He pauses after a few bars. "I would serenade you with my singing, but I'm afraid my voice is shot for the night."

Jaskier wants to say he likes the way Geralt's voice becomes gruffer after a show, but he can't get his mouth to work at the thought of Geralt serenading him with that slick-as-oil voice.

"Do you sing?" Geralt says.

Jaskier's brows shoot up. "Yes— I mean no. I can sing— I'm not famous like you or anything." Jaskier curses himself for stumbling his words, but he can't think straight with Geralt so close.

"Will you sing for me?"

An ice pike slices through Jaskier's heart; there's no way, in his half-asleep 1:00am stupor with bed hair, was Jaskier going to sing for Geralt the bloody frontman of Rivia.

"Nooo no-no no, I can't!" Jaskier tries to keep his voice level but he knows he fails.

Geralt's lip curls into a smirk at Jaskier's reaction. "Hmmm. Alright. But I will hear that voice someday."

Jaskier can do nothing but gape wide-eyed at his idol.

Geralt strums the acoustic once again. "Do you play?"

"No," Jaskier lies.

Jaskier's senses become acutely aware as the singer shifts closer to his until they're pressed shoulder-to-shoulder. Geralt places the guitar over Jaskier's lap and slings his heavily-muscled right arm around Jaskier, fingertips at the strings. With his left he takes Jaskier's hand and places it on the neck.

"Like this," Geralt says gently. He begins to puppet the younger man's hands, nudging and cooing instructions in that husky voice that tantalizes Jaskier.

Jaskier can feel the roughness of Geralt's calluses on his skin, and the heat of his breath on the back of his neck.

Despite his bleary eyes that are probably smudged with eyeliner, Jaskier can't keep his gaze off the tall, muscular man. Jaskier hadn't gotten a chance to study him up close while their lips had been on each other.

He is utterly unearthly handsome. His lashes are longer than any he's ever seen. His chiseled Superman face topped with flowing white hair that Jaskier recently discovered is silky and light. And those eyes... Those vivid unnatural yellow eyes that are a trademark of the entire band (contact lenses, Jaskier assumes). They remind Jaskier of some sort of beast, a wolf, or a dragon.

"...and here, put your fingers on this fret...' Geralt's voice interrupts Jaskier's staring. He almost forgot he's supposed to be listening to his instructor.

Secretly, Jaskier knows how to play the guitar. Very well, in fact. Of course he does— he's been a closeted band geek his entire life.

But the moment is too good to pass up to have Geralt's arms around his, directing the soft strumming, that he couldn't help but lie about his musical talents. He still can't quite comprehend the fact that he is here. Here! With Geralt of the band Rivia! A man he's idolized for years whose music has pulled him through the toughest times like a childhood friend who never failed to rattle his parents (and later his roommates.)

And then, the realization hits Jaskier with an icy chill: Jaskier only had the funds for one ticket, and he had picked tonight. This night. The third and final night the band is performing in his city. Tomorrow morning, Geralt will be off across the continent to his next venue. If Jaskier had known he would not only meet Geralt of Rivia but actually taste his lips— he would have found a way to muster up cash for all three nights.

Oh, Jaskier curses himself for picking this night!

The "My Playlist Understands Me Better Than My Therapist" Tag Game

So of course I can’t find the post now, but as a writer, particularly a clone-centric star wars fan fiction writer, the concept of the music subgenre the internet calls “hornysad” made me laugh for about 3 business days.

Nobody asked, but in the spirit of having raging ✨seasonal deppresh✨ and a barnacle of creative block on my ass, here are three examples of music I listen to that either speak to my hornysad goblin, or ignite the hornysad goblin within me.

Sleep Token — particularly ‘Rain’ or ‘The Apparition’ or ‘The Summoning’ (I don’t feel like I need to explain this one + there’s also something about mysterious identity that we’ve agreed is hot— why else would “the helmet stays on” be a tag on AO3?)

The Cure — I mean come on…‘High’? ‘Just Like Heaven’? ‘Burn’? I thought of them first for this tbh.

As with most things I post, it began as a humble scribble.

The eyes were the only thing I kept from my first draft. Mostly because I screwed them up after that, and couldn't figure out where I'd gone wrong. I've found that it's often easier to start over than to try to fix something that has a less obvious problem.

Draw, redraw, digitize in ArtRage, edit some things, then dissolve the sketch layer to reduce (in)accuracies, and colour over it with transparency before drawing final lines over the colour layer.

Not sure if that's how it should be done; I'm far from learned in the field of art, let alone digital art, which I have very limited exposure to. I was pretty handy with GIMP in highschool, but from what I read about it online, it's one of the least used programs for painting and illustrations. I guess that's why dedicated art programs like ArtRage survive; they serve a purpose.

I've actually never used ArtRage 6 before, and the last time I used it at all was windows XP, IIRC. This was a learning experience, but the program is pretty straight forward, mostly because the UI is well laid out. Unfortunately, there's a lot of finicky design choices, at least when you don't have keyboard shortcuts on hand.

Worth mentioning that I'm drawing on a pen display from xp-pen, while sitting on the couch, so I have no other input devices; just the pen on the screen. Hardly ideal, but I don't have space for a proper setup at the moment.

I'm actually waiting on a stylus for a windows tablet that I bought recently, so that's gonna liberate me as much as a pen and paper can, but with the full horsepower of clip studio, or whatever else I end up downloading. Looking forward to trying it, hopefully it's a comfortable experience.

I should actually do more studies and practice pages like above. I actually really enjoy starting the same picture over a few times in a row - it gave me the chance to avoid mistakes I'd made previously, rather than just trying to edit them out. Builds better habits, I think.

(3) Honestly even with all my issues it's kind of nice being a hopeless romantic! Like you said it gives me the chance to day dream haha. Maybe I have my head in the clouds a lot but sometimes it's nice to be there. There's so many, but I think it's a tie between enemies to lovers and friends to lovers. I love the drama and comedy from the former but I'm so Soft for the latter, and that's highkey how I want my relationship to start.

(4) I think building that bond with someone before you even start dating them is really sweet, and having that connection by the time you commit to each other is 💓 I'm sorry you've been having writers block, that's the worst :( if it helps, the past two chapters have turned out amazing, I love them so much!! I think the closest I got to hardcore shipping something that wasn't canon was RinHaru? But there was also a lot of tension and affection in their relationship so I could see it being canon

there’s nothing wrong with having dreams! just so long as you can ground yourself at the end of the day. 

enemies to lovers is always the funniest for me to read TBH. because it’s such an inevitable cliche haha. friends to lovers though -- oooo my heart. 

the best relationships start with friendship. it’s the most authentic imo. like for me, it’s exhausting bearing my heart open to new people each time i want to get involved with someone romantically. but having someone who already knows you inside out??? swoon. what about a trope you dislike?

I think that is a good view to have on family tbh. I've developed a relationship with my blood family and we're close, but there's something special about the relationships and love you have for people you choose to stay with. I love Tiana!! I think she's a really underrated Disney character :(

(6) She really encompasses Disney's message of working hard to achieve your dreams, and she's a strong, independent woman without being closed off and rejecting her feelings. I think it's so cute and cool that she had that much of an impact on you :D Oof, I get that 💀. Men are gross 🤢 I don't get it very often because I live in SoCal and tbh to a lot of other people brown just equals mexican lol. They're right but I really don't look full mexican. Portuguese and Islander people can tell though

Ngl it's kind of scary wondering about what the industry is going to be like because I'm sure I will run into a lot of biased people and sources, but learning to navigate that is just part of the job. Of course there's people who will read biased sources and attack you too, but you can't always escape those people :/ and thank you love, you're so sweet 💕 That's really admirable! It takes a lot of work and creativity to start a business, I'm sure you'll be successful 😊

(8) what kind were you thinking of? and psych is super cool too! Having that understanding of people and the world can be really eye opening and fun :D It's okay, he was one of my favorite teachers but looking back he was an asshole. He had his good/funny moments and did a lot for me, but he also abused some of editors in my journalism class, and some friends of mine :/ He wouldn't appreciate their work, sometimes insult them, and even encouraged my friend to not sleep for the sake of the paper

i’m positive that you’ll do just fine once you get out there! it seems like you have a pretty thick skin :) 

i really wanted to open a business to help support under-represented groups receive an education - with major focus on minority groups such as orphans/foster children, veterans, and the homeless. there’s so much logistics that tbh i’m too ~stressed~ to think about so i’m tabling that for awhile :’) 

bruhhh fuck that teacher. drop his addy, i just wanna talk real q 💞   if you can’t support all of your students, then there is no point in being a professor!! there is literally 0 reason to be rude when you’re in a position of power, especially when it involves someone’s passion, career, and/or education.

What I don't like, however, is seeing my friends get called to kill themselves for drawing or writing smut, as in a lot of cases these works are actually requested by other people. By friends, I mean we who mutually follow each other through shared interests in a particular subject which in this case is Malleus-- please don't confuse this as any more than that.

Rather than encouraging, I'm PRAGMATIC towards the particular topic, because I don't do it myself, I don't consume it myself, so I definitely don't care what others do with their life.

That is, until the topic of assault came to light. I'll touch upon this later.

Point 2: I was not aware the people I follow were tracing their works. In my earlier draft of this response, I was going to confirm exactly how she traced other people's art. It's actually common practice in the community to trace OFFICIAL art or meme photos for the sake of having fun and anything unserious, however I have changed my stance after someone messaged me proofs of various instances of direct replication of other indie artists' art.

I do redraw meme photos for the sake of memes, I will admit. And I did trace over art as a kid who doesn't know how to draw and doesn't yet know the ethics behind arts, so I might have excused this topic if it were a young teenager at fault. The person in question isn't, however.

I don't scour through other artists' works and trace them to fool others into thinking I drew those. That's where I draw the line, and I must admit finding out about this is a turn off.

Point 3: I did not know about the Ruggie situation and only found out about it through comments to this post. And I really, really apologize for my ignorance. I'm not very active in scrolling through any social media and only see what reblogs I happened to chance upon, so I'm not up to date with any of my mutuals' posts.

I am a pennypincher, and I've never taken off this characteristic because I grew up very poor myself. I respect Ruggie for what he does, and there's a sense of familiarity in him that makes me smile from how relatable he is at times.

I also chanced upon another person calling out a person for referring to Ruggie as a slave, and I agreed that belittling Ruggie for who he is is deplorable. (And honestly that word should never be used anymore and should just stay in history books) I didn't think that I know the person being referred to. I thank the people who shed light on this to educate me.

So, going back to point one: the meat of the matter. I won't make excuses for my ignorance anymore, and I do really appreciate those who took time to expound on the matter for me. As pragmatic as I am about smut, and how I actually enjoy drawing moments of sexual intimacy, my tolerance range is limited to only that: intimacy. Not abuse, not assault. I apologize to anyone who felt uncomfortable or distressed over my post fueled by ignorance.

Again, I'm really, really sorry for jumping on a matter that I haven't grasped in every angle. I'm sure there are also things that I haven't seen yet, and my judgment is open until all sides are exposed. Thank you for taking the time to inform me.

To all of you who keep harassing my friends, can you all please start minding your own damn businesses? Can you TRY to find an identity to define yourselves in a way that's actually useful to society, instead of attacking people who draw for fun, who draw for themselves, who draw to escape from the daily grind they call their reality? Can you STOP projecting your insecure asses for the world to see? FIGHTING FOR THE RIGHTS OF FICTIONAL CHARACTERS BY HARASSING REAL PEOPLE DOESN'T MAKE YOU A HERO. You are pathetic. You are nothing.

You are embarrassing. I promise that your fictional teenage boyfriends will be fine if an adult draws them, but those artists that you posted about? That you shamed? That you encouraged others to witch hunt for no good reason? They get sad. They get depressed. They lose sleep. They can't eat. AND IT'S ALL BECAUSE OF YOU. Because of you thinking your stupid fictional boyfriend's minor rights or whatever the fuck you call those, is more important than IGNORING OR BLOCKING A PERSON AND MOVING ON WITH YOUR LIFE?

WHY DON'T YOU ALL KNOW HOW TO BLOCK AND MOVE ON?

And if I spot YOU harassing ANYONE at all, I'm gonna block you. I will never be open to anyone who harasses ANYONE for ANY REASON. I do not give a fuck if you think you're righteous or whatever. I do not care. IF YOU THINK VIOLENCE AND SHAMING PEOPLE IS THE ANSWER, THEN YOU'RE ALREADY WRONG.
