#so please I am not undermining anyone’s religion or Davey’s religion

hey, about the “davey being christian” thing, i just wanted to come and say that while it might be easier for you and your beta reader, it’s not an excuse to write him using Christian imagery. there are enough Jewish creators both in this fandom and at large that you can learn from. personally, i grew up southern baptist, but i still did my research and learned from Jewish people how to respectfully represent a population i am not a part of.
i understand that you may not know a lot about judaism, and that’s okay! this could be a really great learning opportunity for you! but davey’s identity as a jewish teenager, and the jacobs’ collective identity as a jewish family, is sooo vital to their stories. they are explicitly jewish in the novel— which makes Estger and Mayer’s parenting so important, because they’re raising three proud Jewish children in a time when Judaism was looked down upon— and outside of the family, it adds so much depth to davey’s relationship to jack as well. i would consider reworking that aspect of the fic.
Y’all I understand all of this. I am not undermining this fact. It is a work of fiction, my adaption and my storyline. Don’t worry, the book will be rewritten completely after all four parts and all 60 chapters are written. When we go into the rewrites of this book, my beta reader and I will try our best to include this aspect of it. But right now, we both agreed to use enthoreligion, because in my adaptation Christian symbolism easier. We’re only using religion for the symbolism.
#liz.txt#y’all I know about this and my beta reader and I have talked about it on discord#and we already have symbolisms for the characters in our charts and stuff that we use to keep track of#in my adaption davey’s character is kind of a rebel#so please I am not undermining anyone’s religion or Davey’s religion#it’s just easier for my beta reader and I at the moment#this whole book will be rewritten especially part 1 so don’t worry#but still#go easy on me#we’re mainly focused more on the historical and political aspects of newsies#not the religion aspects of it

Also on a side note in regards to this ask, I am not undermining his enthencity or people who are Jewish. The symbolisms are enothoreligion. And the book explains that Davey comes from a mixed religion background while his father is Jewish, his mother in this adaption is more so on the Christian side. David, in this adaption and my adaption of him, doesn’t per say follow the religion but he still respects his heritage. His parents, in this adaption, are both Jewish and Christian. I hope you all could try to understand. As the author of this book, it’s easier for me to understand his character development and his enemies development and Jack’s if I use Christianity symbolism. It makes the characters more interesting to analyze. Please understand I am not undermining anyone’s enthnecity or David’s original enthnecity. This is a work of fiction, historical fiction at that, a retelling with my own adaption of the characters and the storyline. But thank you for the ask! I genuinely thought no one else in the Newsies fandom had read it because it’s not getting like comments or something like that.
hi, I don't mean to be rude or anything, but did you know that David is canonically Jewish? I read your latest chapter of My Dear Kelly (which I love btw!!) and it was just a little disappointing when David said his family was Christian... I know it's just one line but as a Jew myself David being Jewish is just so important to me...
Hi thank you!!! I’m so glad you’re loving the book!!! Yes I do know, canonically that he is, but Christianity is easier for me to understand and the symbolism for it for the characters make it easier for me to understand. It makes my beta reader and I create symbolism more easier for the characters and help develop and it’s something we both understand.
#liz.txt#my dear kelly#newsies#92sies#livesies#pls y’all i just lost an online friend yesterday i need y’all to try to understand this bc i get it’s important not to erase his enthecity#but this is how i interpret him#david jacobs
