Little follow up to my last headcannon. I implied that Link and Mipha regularly wrote letters during his time in the Army, and his father would occasionally write to him as well. Then my rot ridden brain spiraling into this.

In order to not draw attention to Link, as receiving letters from The Zora Princess would certainly catch everyone's attention, she elected to not stamp her royal crest on it, signing it as from the Lanayru Region. This went on for the first few months of his enrollment.

That is, until King Dorephan himself wrote a letter to Link. However, unlike his daughter, the King did stamp the royal crest on his letter. So imagine the shock the mail service felt when they found a letter from The King of the Zoras, not even directed towards King Rhoam, but instead some random new kid. Utter hell breaking loose, that is. It even led to small investigation, why is this kid getting letters from royalty? Even better, Dorephan anticipated this. He knows that Link hates attention, and like any good father, he can't pass up the chance to embarrass his all-but-legal son.

And the worst part, what did the letter contain? Some massive update regarding one of his friends? Perhaps a chance to visit on a trade deal? Something even bad? Nope. The King simply wanted to wish him a happy birthday. That's all. The barracks, erupted into chaos, as his fellow knights all but forced Link to read out the letter. To go from hearing nothing from this kid to him revealing he was on a first name basis with, remember, The King of Zoras himself? It certainly earned Link some attention, that's for sure.
