I don't think people play with healing factors enough. Like yeah, enhanced healing is cool and healing quickly is convenient. But even if you heal fast you can still heal wrong.

Like heroes having to quickly leave fights so they can splint broken limbs before they heal incorrectly. Or situations where they couldn't and have issues because of it

Getting shrapnel stuck in your body because your skin knitted over it too fast

Or having chronic pain and limited motion in one arm from a broken arm that couldn't get the attention it needed soon enough

Just think of characters begging for the villian to let go so they can fix the potential issue.

Right? Or alternatively, the villian is the one begging. Like they know they're evil and shouldn't be forgiven but the thought of something bad happening that could horribly effect the rest of their life still scares them.

As much as I love the pillarmen in canon, they tooootally have untapped creepiness potential besides the whole crazy body twisting and super strength so I played with some ideas...

I think they could totally have some more standard predator features like longer jaws even though theyre hidden, think a dog or other canines, and I also think that them being able to unhinge their jaws to eat pray whole like snakes would be awesomely creepy.

Although I do feel this wouldn't have much purpose lol as skin absorption is most likely a pillarman only trait as I don't recall seeing any vampires ever do this, but it's definitely fun to play with.

However I do feel that paryngeal jaws are definitely useful. Why let prey potentially squirm away when you can just eject your 2nd set of jaws right into their body! Imagine kissing that for all you pillarfuckers.

I may sketch up some other stuff relating to this concept with the pillarmen because it itches my brain juuuust right 😋😋 why just have ultra strong vampires when you can have real horror? Reread the hat bit in SB, i kind of wilfully ignored it protected him against mind control because that just seems so OP lol. Speaking of, what do you think could be Faunus’ ability that allowed him to create a life form and prevent mind control?

It's not against mind control of all kinds, it's specifically made to prevent outside input into the weird human coding situation that Chuuya and Verlaine were subjected to. You know, the erasing memories and setting up an activation phrase to unleash a singularity thing? The thing with which Professor N wanted to erase Chuuya's personality to have control over him again? The thing Pan (Faunus) was using to control Verlaine?

The hat's lining is made of the same kind of metal that was used to brainwash Verlaine into being Pan's guard dog. It's a bit unclear, but either the metal itself was ability-made, or Pan could use his ability on/through it. When N used it to force Verlaine to fully release Guivre, the rainbow metal powder was said to make a sound and move towards Verlaine.

From the gear made out of that ability metal that N had, it appears that the metal had something engraved on it, probably a command sequence to control Verlaine. It's possible Pan's ability is the solution to the question "but how do you even put code inside an organic body?!" Perhaps Pan's ability was, in fact, to "program" people through a special metal with data inscribed on it, and Project Arahabaki was able to use leftover metal from Pan's lab, much like Rimbaud did when he had the hat made:

So I don't think that's overpowered at all. It's directly dependant on them being currently wearing the hat, and only works regarding this specific kind of, possibly resource-limited, mind-control.

Verlaine used it to modify his condition to turn Brutalization off because, much like Chuuya, he's unable to turn it off himself as he is not conscious of what it happening:

It's also thanks to the hat's properties that Chuuya was able to activate Corruption, by slightly altering his own code, aka command sequence, to make it possible at all:

All that brings forth much more interesting questions, which are:

If Verlaine was able to program a condition to turn Brutalization off that, while still needing outside input, didn't require the nullification of his ability, does Chuuya really need Dazai to stop Corruption? Could he choose to create another condition independent of Dazai? Or does it only work between Verlaine and Chuuya because they both have that ability coding inside of them?

Did Chuuya permanently alter his condition to "open his gate" and activate Corruption at will, or does he ALWAYS need his hat in order to activate Corruption? If he wasn't wearing the hat, would he still have access to it?

Now THOSE are questions I need explored, because that's untapped potential for angst and drama and impossible situations.

I assume you’re talking about the characters in the show and not the real people and just my thoughts on what the idea of them in my head were like because I don’t want to speculate on the actual people and their lives too much.

But as for Kathy, I’ve always sympathized with her to an extent however it was very clear her marriage to Nix was never going to work and they were not the right match for one another at all. I know the real Dick did not like her at all and basically called her a gold digger who didn’t care about Nix or love him. He said she didn’t know how to love him right or care to figure out how or something. But we all know how he was very biased on this front lol. But yeah Nix was definitely a terrible husband to Kathy and didn’t treat her as well as he probably should have, but from what I’ve gathered she probably wasn’t completely innocent herself and also didn’t care about Nix or being a good wife to him all that much either. I also don’t think she had any qualms or illusions about what Nix might be getting up to while overseas or with whom, it was probably par for the course and an unspoken understanding. It was for the best for everyone involved even their child that they split up.

As for Nix being a dad and his kid… Yeah it’s very hard for me to picture Nix as a dad as well. I think it’s something that he really struggled with for a very long time too. He probably wasn’t there much for the first few years of his son’s life, maybe not even much of any of his childhood. Even when he was there or around he probably wasn’t a great father to be perfectly honest. (We all know he’s not a patient person by his very nature, for one thing.) It’s not even that he didn’t want to be, he just really didn’t know how to. Especially considering who his own father was and what a terrible father he was to Nix. Like the worst father imaginable, something out of nightmares. It’s understandable that caused him a lot of trauma that also affected how he was as a father himself. I think Nix feels very guilty about it obviously and often beats himself up over it, but he’s also convinced himself that it’s best for his son that he isn’t in his life at all so he doesn’t pass down his trauma and fuck him up like his own father did to him. I also think that he feels like he never deserved to be a father while Dick did and yet he’s the one who has a kid he never sees while Dick has no children even though he’d make a great father, and he has a lot of guilt over this. It especially pains him to see how good Dick is with his own son the few times they are together, and how much his son likes Dick. And he feels like Dick is a better father to his own child than he is himself. In my head one of the issues that Nix struggles with the most in their relationship is that he’s kept Dick from living the life he deserved and meant to have which was to be a father and family man, and he feels that he’s taken that away from him and hates that he can’t give that to Dick himself. It’s one of his main insecurities, that one day Dick will come to his senses and leave him and find a nice girl to marry and make his wife and then have lots of perfectly mannered little redheaded children. Which will also make Dick’s mother and the rest of his family happy of course as well.

In my head I also think that it’s Dick that eventually gets Nix to see his son again and be a much bigger presence in his life sometime down the line when his son is a bit older. Nix seems to take to fatherhood much easier and does a better job of it as his son is older as well. He usually goes to visit his son where he lives but as his son gets older he starts to come visit him and Dick where they live together and Dick is known as his Uncle Dick, and the three of them surprisingly get on very well together. Maybe his son even visits during a week in the summer when Dick has his nieces and nephews over as well and Nix likes to pretend during that week it’s like it’s their own family that they have together, this is their own little (or not so little) family that they could have together if they were like everyone else.

Jedi Service Corps

The Legends-fueled propaganda of "bad students get sent to the Agricorp/Services" has always bothered me. First of all, forcing kids into a career not of their choosing isn't the best way to encourage them to perform well.

The Services in general seem to get a bad rap, and TBH it's kind of bizarre to assume that every kid who winds up being taken in by the Jedi wants to grow up to be a cop. LOL!

There is so much untapped potential being ignored, and even within the four pseudo-canon branches there's a lot to explore.

Agriculture. Farmers Without Borders. LOL! It isn't just about growing plants, it's about analyzing trends, understanding ecosystems, geology, climatology, politics, etc. There's mechanical engineering so you know how to fix the machines that do the hardest labor (often illegally, given corporate software locks and so forth). Probably a lot of fiddly stuff with plant genetics, too, given similar issues with seed corporations.

Being Jedi, I'm sure they're also aware of the need to include "ornamental" plants to help with the emotional welfare of hurting/devastated populations.

Education. This field must be fucking wild. Sure, you have your future creche masters and archivists, but I imagine there are those who do public outreach, too, and go to schools to teach kids about what the Jedi do beyond waving laser swords. There's probably also a need for teachers in isolated/rural areas to help with basic things like reading, writing, and maths. Ditto areas devastated by wars and natural disasters, where kids need a safe distraction from trauma. I bet Educorp and Agricorp team up more often than people might think.

There's also the sheer variety of topics. Even something basic like history will have a wide net. Galactic history, region-specific, planetary, etc. And then there's the arts. Music, singing, dance, physical media, holo media, theatre, and so much more. There will be differences between species, understanding what they need to know, how they learn best, and what their aging process is like. Teachers to cover the full range of mortal maturity, from teaching toddlers to old-timers. And don't get me started on teaching "forbidden" topics in repressive communities.

Medical. LOL. Every. Single. Species. And often subtypes between them. So many specialists needed. And again, you probably have a number that specialize in helping in disaster areas. Hello, Educorp, let's help teach these people how to best care for themselves. Maybe Agricorp can help with showing folks how to purify their air and water. There must be SO many diseases, some of which have inoculations and so that don't. And again, figuring ways to smuggle medicine and supplies to those who need it despite the extortionist rates corporations charge. Repairing faulty equipment, finding work-arounds when the parts aren't there. Triage. Using the Force to help heal is all well and good, but sometimes they still have to get hands-on.

Even with non-emergency stuff, I imagine they're still kept busy. The idea of a Jedi "country doctor" settled in some remote area sounds delightful. Communities that get "lost" in the shuffle or otherwise overlooked. Veterinary medicine as a sub-specialty.

Jedi having a special "knack" for determining what's wrong with someone, finding early warning signs before it's too late, etc. Comforting the dying. Comforting the survivors. ALL the mental health stuff and neurodivergence.

Exploration. Jedi Starfleet. LOL! It isn't all about discovering new worlds, though. Sometimes it's rediscovering planets and cultures that have been forgotten. Charting new hyperlane routes and hoping the end doesn't pop you out in the middle of a star.

I betcha you could fold so many things into this one. Botany. Archaeology. Xenoanthropology. Medicine, of course, since new worlds/people means new poisons, venoms, and diseases. New or ancient languages? It'd help to have someone around who could work on translating. Diplomats to help you talk to people. Geologists. Zoologists. A bit of everything.

Sure, there'd be room for solo missions, but I imagine there'd be bigger ships that they'd launch from. A place to come back to so the brains can pore over everything you brought back and see what they can determine from it. And big ships (or any ships really) means pilots, engineers, general crew, logistics, and all those fun things.

Anyway, I can see plenty of room for additional corps, too, but of the ones that get mentioned in Legends there's still a huge playing field.
