fully agree. But like, heres why probably not: outsourcing. Since covid (and even before) but especially since work-from-home pipelines have been introduced CGI folks and animators have known that unionizing, especially trying to get smthn strong out of the union, like actually good work hours and pay, means the jobs go elsewhere.

Like im a canadian animator, i love outsourcing, basically all of my 9 year career has been on jobs outsourced to canada from the states cause that sweet dollar conversion and tax breaks. But even with those incentives getting us work here we're starting to see our local studios 'partner' with our just fully shunt work to even cheaper countries as budgets and timelines get tighter, or production fumbles timelines real bad. So idk. It all feels so precarious?

So i'd fucking love to be able to unionize, i hate seeing my friends run into the ground for fucking childrens tv, noone deserves to do 12 hr days for gd children tv (or anything, really)

But with globalization it just seems like we'd need a full global union to make it so whole industries in unionized countries dont just dry up?

Idk it just feels very all or nothing to us right now (using a small us, me and the people i talk to abt these things) but if im wrong abt this i'd love to hear different takes! I'd desperately love to hear a different take.

CGI animators should unionize next. normally, their jobs would be too precarious to strike, since studios would replace them without a second thought, but if it's part of this larger general film strike, they might finally have meaningful power to better their working conditions

Literally begging anyone who can vote in US elections to vote, and to vote against Trump. Which means voting for Harris, not abstaining or voting third party.

My family actually did move here from an authoritarian country, where voting literally didn't matter, they literally did throw out your vote, and they literally did assassinate citizens who spoke out against them.

We would all very much like to keep living in a country where those things are not the case!

And like. The fact that voting matters in the US is a very real reason for hope. It is something you should genuinely appreciate. We can make a difference.

And a lot of people risked their lives or even died to earn that right, and it's a right not everyone has.
