Haikyuu But They Don’t Play Volleyball (Pretty Setter Squad)
Notes: I am once again telling you that I know nothing about sports.
*Read that Captain version here! (oikawa was included in the captain thread)*
Sugawara Koushi: Diving
He’s beauty. He’s grace. How could he not be a diver?
I’m sorry but just imagine him coming up from a dive, his hair clinging to his forehead, just smiling that pretty smile of his as he swims back to the edge of the pool?
Catch me simping.
TEAMMOMTEAMMOMTEAMMOM!
Sugawara is brings a whole ass cooler of snacks and drinks to every meet for all of his teammates.
Probably leads in stretches?  His positive energy gets everyone super hyped for the competition.  I promise you’ve never heard anyone count to ten with more enthusiasm.
He’s there on the sidelines to watch every single dive during the meet, shouting words of encouragement as they approach the platform, and then cheering loudly after the completed dive.
But, also?  C H A O T I C at practices. Like he knows when it’s time to actually practice, but if something has the team down?  He’ll do some stupid move, shouting some TikTok reference on his way down.
Sugawara is really good at twisting dives? Like?? Really good at them.
If you come to his meets to watch him?  Precious bean smiles so much, likely giving you a thumbs up and a toothy grin before he steps up to the edge of the springboard.
You’ll try to give him a hug once he’s out of the water, but he’ll likely just laugh and object, saying that he’ll get your clothes all wet.
But, he will sit down in his chair and let you dry his hair with his towel.  Watch him melt into your touch once you're done and just running your fingers through his silver strands, getting any tangles out.
He always offers you his jacket, because he’s an absolute gentleman.  But, he inevitably ends up getting cold, and will cuddle you in his lap to steal your body heat, putting his towel down over his legs so you don’t get your pants all wet.
Kageyama Tobio: Basketball
He plays point guard, because much like the setter in volleyball, the point guard controls the team’s offense.  It’s the most specialized position, again, just like the setter.
Three point K I N G!
Drains them left and right with expert precision.
He plays so rough oml and it’s not even on purpose!  Someone could guard him too much and he’s pissed even though that’s literally the point of basketball??? Catch him throwing so many elbows.
Kageyama practices dribbling non-stop.  If he’s not in during practice, he’s on the side lines doing ball-handling drills.
He could be the best ball-handler on the team and he’s still working to improve himself and learn from some of the point guards from the opposing teams.
He will have no idea that you’re even at his games, because he’s so in the zone, but if you come up to him afterwards as he walks out of the locker room?
Insert soft Tobio smile here ;-;
He’ll ask you if you enjoyed the game, probably talking about how one of the other players had a really clean jump shot, asking you to rebound for him so he can try that.
Please tell him no.  He’s on an adrenaline high and needs to go get some rest.
Kageyama will probably con you into it, no matter how much you object. He’d be shooting baskets, asking for your input every now and then as if you have any idea what you’re meant to be looking for.
You definitely walked up to him after a game in a t-shirt that had his name on it and this boy just got so flustered, because he will never be over the fact that you, of all people, wanted to date him.
But, he would tell you that you looked nice, just like he always does.  Kageyama would never outright say it, but the fact that you get all dressed up for his games makes his heart do backflips 🥺
Kozume Kenma: Track
Right? Crazy, I know, but hear me out.  He does high jump or maybe pole vault.  Something that doesn’t require too much physical exertion.
Sitting outside in the sun at track meets for hours on end is by no means his favorite thing to do, but he’s one of the first events, so if the meet is at Nekoma, he can just dip for a little while and go play his games at a cafe that has air conditioning or something.  Don’t tell his coach though because they’re technically not meant to leave??
During practices, you will likely find him lying on the mats, playing a game on his phone, not even caring if his coach comes over.  The others are doing the same thing, so why does it matter?
He can get really meticulous though, especially right before postseason.  He’d get in this trance where he’s constantly working on his approaches, making sure they feel just right before he even thinks about jumping.
Kenma hates when you come watch him.  It throws him off, so if you do plan on coming to a meet, please don’t say anything ;-;
Honestly, he probably wouldn’t even tell you when he has meets, just so he doesn’t run the risk of you watching him.
Assuming you do find out his schedule, it’s probably best if you come after his events?  It would put him more at ease knowing that there wasn’t even the slightest possibility that you had watched him.
He’ll sit on the bleachers with you though, munching on some snacks that you brought, making quiet conversation while he plays his games.
Kenma will always tell you that he doesn’t care if you come or not, but deep down, he enjoys the time he gets to spend with you while he’s waiting for results he absolutely will make sure that you leave if he makes it to the final round though
Akaashi Keiji: Golf
GOLF BRAT this is a joke don’t kill me pls
I’m talking like he grew up playing golf with his dad, but because he’s played so long, he’s super good.
He shoots in the high-30s on nine holes and probably gets really annoyed with himself if he gets in the mid-40s
You’ll see him on the driving range right after the match, practicing until he’s content if he ever does worse than he expected.
He only uses Callaway golf balls and probably has a really unique ball mark.
His golf clubs?  Custom fit.  He’s not a snob, I swear.  He just takes it really seriously, because Akaashi knows that he’s good and could get some really incredible scholarships.  He wants to be able to perform to the best of his ability and if that means spending a lot on a nice set of golf clubs that will last him for a long time, then he’ll do it.
Akaashi carries his clubs.  He doesn’t understand the need for those push carts?  Sure the clubs are kind of heavy, but it’s not that bad.
Definitely refused to wear a glove for a long time, but eventually the blisters and calluses got so bad that he had to cave.
Putting KING.  Can and will sink a 15’ putt without batting an eyelash.  He doesn’t have a lot of power in his drives, but his short game is impeccable.
He’s always really flattered when you show up to his matches.  They’re boring to watch, and he knows that, especially if you don’t play golf or have any interest in the sport.
But, the fact that you’re willing to walk with him around the course, asking him questions about the rules of the game, or even just helping him find his ball?  It brings that gentle Akaashi smile to his face.
Akaashi in a polo akaashi in a polo akaashi in a motherfucking polo
Some weekends he’ll take you out to the course with him, let you borrow a set of his old clubs if you don’t have a set of your own, and you two will play a round of golf together
You give up after hitting the ball in the lake four times in row and just settle for driving the golf cart and providing him with emotional support.
Atsumu Miya: Tennis
Just imagine that wide ass smile of his when he scores a point
Wait i’m already soft i-
Anyway.  The intention was to get Osamu to play too and they would be this really incredible duo for doubles
But Osamu physically could not put up with Atsumu’s shit.  Like, in volleyball there are other people on the court to interact with, but in doubles tennis? It’s just atsumu
Osamu literally lasted one practice.
But, we’re not here to talk about him.
Atsumu doesn’t have a lot of power, so he has to come up with other ways to score.  He mainly relies on well-aimed receives or drop shots
He hates the uniforms and he looks terrible in them.  I’m so sorry Atsumu stans, but it’s just a fact.  Those really light, almost white, khakis and the maroon polo?  Boy looks so dumb and he knows it.  Add the dumbass headband his coach makes him wear to keep his hair from his eyes?  Fashion crises.
It’s for this reason that he really doesn’t want you at his matches.  Because he knows that you’re going to take stupid pictures of him and use them as blackmail.  You come anyway and yes.  You take a million pictures of your boyfriend looking like a hot mess in his uniform.
If he catches you taking pictures in between sets?  He’s going to steal your phone the minute he’s done so he can delete them all
“153 pictures?! What the hell, Princess. . .”
“Sorry, ‘mu.  You just look so dumb in your uniform.”
He likes to drag you out to the courts on weekends to play doubles with friends or he’ll ask you to play singles with him. He always says that he’ll go easy on you, but three volleys in and he’s slipped into the zone and he’s playing for real.
Atsumu has absolutely smacked your ass with his racket and feigned innocence when you whirl around to stare at him in shock.  He probably starts lecturing the nearest person on how they should treat someone like that, especially his princess.
Smack his arm and shut him up, please.
I promise he looks a lot better when the two of you go play than when he actually has a match.  Some nice athletic shorts and a black t-shirt or hoodie, maybe a baseball cap to keep his hair out of his face?  Yeah.  He looks hella cute.

T: I was like I am so tired or I’ve had too many beers. Because I surprised dad in Edinburgh
 S: that was massive
T: and we have a video of that that we’ve never shown

D: Harry and I played Sam and … Tom.
Everyone laughs
D: I’m jet lagged and what was the score boys
T: it was all square. We were one down going up the 18th and then dad cracked under the pressure
S: I was one down
D: and who won the hole then
T: Sam did because I was exhausted
S: I’m jet lagged
D: Sam you played really well
S: I did. I was very pleased. It was that driver you kno
w D: you diver was well. You know it was all very square.
S: I was glad it ended like that
H: We should have won
T: no you shouldn’t have
D: yeah we definitely should have
T: no you finished like one hole on the front line
H: your point is.?
D: Harry lost his, how many balls did you lose man?
 H: too many man
T: I lost a lot of balls. I think I lost an entire
S: you threw one in the lake
T: well that was a stupid ball. I missed the par
S: yeah that was the problem, the ball
T: it was all the balls fault.it was an oblong
H: in golf you have expensive golf balls and they’re like 8 pound each
 T: no they’re 5 pounds
S: they’re expensive
H:okay so 5 pounds. And I took paddy to play golf a week ago and out of his bag. He’d obviously going to your drawer and taken 6 pro-b1s. And i was like paddy you can’t be hitting pro-b1s. You can’t soi took all of them out his bag and out them in mine and replaced them with my crummy ones. I lost all 6 in 6 holes.
D: its expensive being a dad with 4 kids but talking about expenses. We’re very excited because the brother’s trust has just launched this new event. It’s gone brilliantly.
S: it was launched friday
T: its raised over 90(?) thousand dollars
D: what is it. It’s now sunday so we launched it Friday in london during the screening time
T: what screening
D,S,H: we watched the avengers
T: oh right
D: your mom and I phoned it.
S: oh is that why she left?
D: yeah to make sure it was up. She was on wifi, she launched it. So while we were watching the film we were also looking at the counter at how many views
H: how do you do that?
D: mom’s got it on her phone T: 90 thousand is amazing already
H: we can use that extra 2 thousand to replenish the golf balls we lost
D: actually that is a good disclaimer. None of the money is used for luxury holland  days out. All of the money goes to
 T: entirely non- profit
D: yeah no one gets paid at the brother trust
T: should we talk about the charities? We could each talk about one of the charities
S: should we establish what it is?
T: Why don’t you (harry) tell us about your trip to Kibera(?)
D:wait before we do that, why don’t we tell people what they can win in the do’s
S: why don’t you (tom) do that cause you’re the man
H: you can see me
T: harry will be there. So hang out with him.
D: its the premier in LA
T: its the LA premier for Spiderman far from home
D: which we just watched the trailer of
T: we just watched the trailer of. Which we dont know when it comes out and we can’t disclose any information for
 S: when is the premier?
T: I think the premier is June
H: ask for the trailer and then
 D: June 15th I believe … mid june
T: mid june but if you go online or on my instagram and the link in my bio, you can see all the details about when the event is and when it will be taking place. But whats really exciting is the ability to go to the far from home premier, we’ll give you $1000 spending money, we’ll put you up in a snazzy hotel. The winner will basically get the opportunity to fly with a friend from anywhere in the world to LA to attend the FFH premier with me. Harry will be there, Sam and dad will probably be there. On the carpet, we’ll take pictures, there’s an amazing after party that we’ll go to. Obviously we’ll get to see the film which is the most exciting part of the process. I haven’t even seen the film yet so you’ll be watching the fim for the first time with me watching for the first time which will be pretty awesome. And uh yeah, it’ll be pretty awesome
D: it’ll be a great night. And that’s what people are entering the raffle for. The money that we raise guys we are really
T (off camera): ow!
*pause*
H: I really hope I get credit as your hand double in spiderman
D: oh right yeah
T: harry’s hand was in the first trailer
S: yeah because when you unzip the suitcase wasn’t that you
H: that was the first time I did it. It was terrifying
S: were you nervous?
 H: oh my god
S: you’re just unzipping a suitcase
H: no no no it was the first day of filming…
*pauses for spoilers*
T: start again.we were on set for ffh
 *Pauses again for spoilers*
D: good I’m glad that resolved. So the brother’s trust when we founded it we have the idea that we would shine light on the charities that don’t get the publicity that big charities can generate. And we wanted to use charities that are very sort of cost effective. That sort of have most of the money going to the recipients not offices in london or new york. The big things what we didn’t want the money being spent on. And one of the charities is Lunchbowl and you just been to kibera so you
S: you (Harry) go on all the trips, you do
T: I know, you do all the cool trips H: I know, I’m the cameraman D: it was a great trip wasn’t it
H: I went to Kibera, Which is the second largest town(?) in the sub saharan in africa and its the place of a charity we support, lunchbowl. What lunchbowl does is they have a nursery and now a primary/ secondary school and they basically take kids out of the slum and provide them with school and then on saturdays I believe it is they have a feeding program within the slum where they have 300 kids from within kibera come and they feed 300 children and they give them food and a stash of milk and then on sunday they have rugby.
T: they play rugby?
D: yeah they go to a posh school
H: they go to a regular posh school in Kenya. The posh schools have it then they have these coaches that come
S: we bought one of the busses, didn’t we?
H: yeah. So one of things the brother’s trust did was we bought a bus which when I first heard that I was like why do they need a bus. But really the rugby ground is 5 kilometers
D: a long walk
H: so what happens is the bus is completely full to the point of them sitting on top of one another like this. And then what happens is when I was there, I saw like 20 kids at the gate. They’re just outside waiting at the gate and I went over with the head coach and he was explaining to me that these kids walked there 2 hours. Some of them are barefoot. To play rugby and then they get a meal afterwards. Another thing the bus does is take the kids from kibera to the new secondary school. I think the reason its so great is because the chance of a child making it to 5 years old is 50%. So you’re talking like the flip of a coin. So taking a child out kibera for the day. For 8 hours, 10 hours a day drastically improves the chance of survival
S: mom was telling me during holidays they get really upset because they miss school so much.
H: they say teachers can tell a massive change in behaviors after a holiday
 T,S: Really?
H: because for these kids going to school is like, its like heaven
D: and what they’re trying to do in kibera is what we take for granted. We have school from 4 - 18 mandatory, free for us in Britain/England. And what they’re trying to do is give these kids a chance to become educated.
H: They want, so they used to have this school that went from I think 2-6 which is great but its not great because when a kid finishes at 6 years old where are they going to go? They go right back into the slum. So now that it goes up to 15, they only started that last year, that’s so massive for them. Because they can take a child from 2 years old to 15 and they can really shape the person they are with the teachers.
D: its worth saying in light of what I was saying earlier, every pound that we give to lunchbowl, 97p is given to the children, 3p is postage.
S: last campaign did 406?
D: yeah yeah and we had a guy come over from america
T: was his name Erik?
D: yeah
T: he was really nice that guy
H: we gave him a tour of set
T: he came to set, we had a good time. He was lucky because they were about to tear down that venice set weren't they
H: I feel like .. marvel police
T: well that was in the trailer. There’s gonna be a red laser on your forehead
H: right over there by the building with his marvel cap on
D: and he stayed at the Sevoy(???)
T: the venice set was so amazingS: I couldn’t .. they like dyed the water and everything
*another pause*
D: i don’t remember ever reading a marvel comic
*tom plays a sound effect*
D: what is that applause?
S: are these like loads of sound effects?
T: yeah its got loads of sound effects. I bought it for your …
*Tom plays booing*
D: Oh I’ve heard that! I’ve got that at work
Tom (off camera): take us out sam. Send us home.
S: okay that enough golf talk. But the main thing is the brothers trust campaign we’ve launch. You can go on Brother’s trust instagram and find the link, donate, and enter into the raffle. We can’t wait to see you at the LA premier.
D: 2 people
T: 2 people and 1 has to be over the age of 13 and its going to be amazing. Peace out.
D: no more surprises.

Caitlin Farmer and the Dollar Store
Cait can never resist the dollar store when she goes by. 1.4k. Also on ao3.
Inspired by @chocolatechipcookiesplease‘s super cute post! Hope this was okay.
Cait can never resist the dollar store when she goes by.
It’s unfortunate, since it’s nestled right between her favourite grocery store and the go-to second hand bookshop so she goes past it quite a lot. Luckily, it’s a dollar store so she isn’t sweating the amount of spending yet; equally luckily, people seem pretty touched when Cait presents them with a gift apropos of nothing, else her desk would be covered in all the random crap she picks up.
So far, she’s gifted March three pomegranate face mask sachets, April three whistles on multicolored string, Nursey a pair of toothbrushes that he’d been mock-offended by, Chris a ten-pack of bouncy balls, Dex a balloon pump with the outline of Minnesota on it, and the girls on the team enough plastic cups and cutlery to last at least two parties and three barbeques. She’s got her eye on a set of the ugliest colored paints she’s ever seen for Lardo and a whisk with a cowboy on it for Bitty, but Cait is pretty sure they’re going to get slapped with an extra-reduced sticker soon enough.
It’s only the second week of the semester. Cait admits she might have a problem, but what’s a few dollars that she’d probably only spend on something temporary like food when she could be buying cheap and/or ugly and/or semi-useless junk for her friends.
So she’s in the dollar store again after her afternoon lecture lets out – because she’d been meaning to go to buy a new loaf of bread and especially so after she’d had to carefully cut away the mould on her toast that morning – and that’s when she sees it, right near the door: A shark-patterned notebook.
It’s entirely not fit for purpose. The paper quality is terrible, the pages grey and thin as rice paper when Cait flips it open, the kind prone to shedding into the roller of a ballpoint, and there are probably about forty sheets total. It would last maybe two weeks of the life of a college student, tops. The spiral bind looks simultaneously weak enough to barely manage holding the forty pages in place and mean enough to leave a mark for hours.
But it’s got sharks on it. Little cartoon ones in diagonal lines across a blue background, entirely anatomically incorrect and with the shittiest printing quality she’s seen in a while but still. Chris would love it. That is, not it; Cait knows it’s an objectively crappy notebook and that Chris will know it’s an objectively crappy notebook. It’s not about the notebook, just like none of the other little gifts she’s collected over all the trips to the dollar store were actually about the thing itself.
As the saying goes, it’s the thought that counts. Cait loves to let people know she’s been thinking about them even when they’re not around and she loves to buy them cheap and ugly things and watch the small joy people find in them. The little nudge of love in a gag gift.
And she knows Chris loves them. For her birthday he’d handed her six separately wrapped gifts and they were all from the dollar store and that would have been enough for her – she’d almost cried over the tiny plastic scuba diver in a glitter globe because he’d remembered, he’d remembered that time she’d talked for a half hour straight about when she was a kid and wanted to scuba dive for mermaids – except he’d also made her a lopsided cake with Bitty and then mini-golfing. They’d seen an ugly cute cat on the way back and stopped for twenty minutes to coo at it and stroke it’s ugly head. It was the best birthday.
The point is, Cait loves to give small gifts and she loves Chris and she loves to give him small gifts to let him know she loves him. And both of them love sharks, she’s got more shark-and-Sharks-themed belongings than she knows what to do with at this point and half of them are Chris’ anyway, shyly given and taken after dates and proudly bestowed out of the blue. It’s their thing.
The point is, she’s wasting another $1.50 on dollar store crap for her boyfriend and no one is going to stop her.
Cait has time to run back home for a snack and then run to practice. It’s late by the time they’re done and she’s tired but she needs to fit in studying so she heads over to the group study space so her and Chris can study together, and so neither of them will be distracted by their loud housemates or the call of a soft bed. She stakes out the pod with the comfortable chairs that can spin but aren’t broken and don’t randomly drop their height mid-studying and spreads her books and laptop and water and snacks across it until Chris arrives. Some people give her dirty looks but it’s ten at night on a Tuesday and everyone knows study space rules don’t apply at ten at night on a Tuesday.
Cait’s almost forgotten about the shark notebook she’d bought until she spots it fallen to the bottom of her rucksack, probably getting a little rough around the edges with all the crumbs and flotsam that hang around down there.  She tucks it under her actual notebook, ready for when Chris arrives. She’s already trying not to smile thinking about how he’s going to react.
When he finally does arrive he looks just about ready to go to bed but the loud thunk of his backpack on the table lets her know he means business. He gives her a kiss on the cheek and then pulls out three different textbooks and a massive pad of lined paper, plus a separate pad of squared paper, and four different colored highlighters, and a calculator. Then his laptop and two bottles of water. Then three different pens and two worn-down pencils.
“All right, I’m ready,” he announces, looking at all the things with no small amount of alarm. “I’ve let all my studying slide this week, but tonight’s the night! I’m going to get it all done.”
Cait can relate; she already feels about four weeks behind where her professors expect her to be and she’s not quite sure how she’s got there. At least her and Chris can support each other emotionally in this trying time, and physically by poking each other awake, even if some of the courses he’s taking are indecipherable to her and Chris is no marine biologist so there’s not much in the way of academic support.
And speaking of emotional support:
“Well I got you a little something to help,” Cait says, pulling the shark notebook out from under her work. “Look! Isn’t it cute?”
Chris stares at the notebook. And he stares at the notebook. He stares a bit more and Cait starts to wonder if maybe she’s found the one ugly gift Chris doesn’t like when his face breaks into a smile, the kind that makes her feet feel grounded and her entire chest feel warm.
“Oh my God, I love you,” he says, and he takes the notebook from her hand, inspecting the cover and the useless pages. “Oh my God, Cait, I love you.”
Cait feels herself going pink even as she says, “Okay, it is pretty cute and you know I love you too, but I didn’t really think it was that cute?”
But Chris is laughing now and rooting around in his endless backpack only to pull out–
The shark notebook. The dollar store shark notebook that he just took from Cait and is still holding in his other hand.
“Oh my God,” Cait says, taking the notebook from him. They bought each other the same fucking ugly dollar store shark notebook. This is a moment – forget every other instance where she’s looked at Chris and thought there’s no one else that gets me like this, forget every sweet and thought out gesture, forget the sex. They really are soulmates. “Oh my God, Chris, I love you.”
Between studying, they use up six pages of one of the notebooks playing hangman and three playing a hard-fought, best of three noughts and crosses with Cait cheating because he knows how ticklish Chris is and she never said she was above fighting dirty. A good fifteen pages of the other notebook are lost when Chris knocks over his water bottles trying to escape the tickling.
Everyone is giving them dirty looks at that point, but Cait is still giggling as her and Chris move their non-dollar-store-items to safety and run to the bathroom for tissues. The next morning she gives her notebook – the water-damaged one, thanks Chris – pride of place in her corner of dollar store crap on her desk.

37 Photos That Will Inspire You to Visit Australia’s Lord Howe Island
“Just paradise!” That’s the common response I have given to my friends when they ask me how my recent trip to Australia’s Lord Howe Island was. There simply is no other way to describe it. And there is no more perfect way to describe it either.
As I sat down to begin drafting this piece from my cosy little cabin, “Waimarie,” the sun was peeking through the ominous storm clouds as it began to set over the ocean, casting this vibrant, golden light across the palm trees before me. My feet were up and my muscles aching in a way that reminded me that it was only the day before I hiked Mt Gower (and survived), and my cheeks and jaw sore from positively smiling so much.
I was so happy to finally be on Lord Howe Island, feeling alive and feeling really inspired.
Lord Howe Island represents the way the world is supposed to be.
It takes just a two-hour flight from mainland Australia (Sydney or Brisbane) to discover a volcanic island of picturesque crescent lagoons teeming with diverse life, palm-tree shaded streets and incredible mountains rising from the sea.
n Lord Howe Island, shoes are optional, the mode of transport is a bicycle, and the universal language is a wave combined with a smile found on the face of every person you cross paths with. Mobile reception here doesn’t exist and connecting to WIFI is the last thing you think about when you a pristine, untouched beach to yourself for hours.
This is Australia’s best kept secret. A world treasure and by far the one of the most stunning treasures of them all — A real Holiday destination.
Only 11 kilometres long and 2.8 kilometres at its widest, Lord Howe is PARADISE and for the most part you will feel like you have stepped back in time to a place where birdsongs fill the cleanest of air and time slows to still.
After years of dreaming to visit Lord Howe Island, there is really no way to prepare yourself – places like this aren’t supposed to exist anymore. And despite the fact that Lord Howe Island is a PART of my native Australia; I felt worlds from “home.”
Sir David Attenborough once said Lord Howe Island is  “so extraordinary it is almost unbelievable… Few islands, surely, can be so accessible, so remarkable, yet so unspoiled.”
And as always, Sir David Attenborough is right.
Breathtaking natural beauty that constantly changes with every hour of the day.
The mood is complex and unpredictable, as are all good places at mercy to the elements of Mother Nature, but let me tell you this place is a breath of fresh air in a busy, modern world.  It could be best described as the sunshine on ANY overcast and bleak day to the 400 souls whom reside here and me; who loves wild and remote places of this beautiful planet.
With a romantic old-world appeal, this untouched utopia remains relativity in this natural state, unlike many remote islands over the last 200 years which resulted in destruction of the native fauna. With diverse and abundant sea marine and bird life, the charm and beauty of Lord Howe is due to the protected distance from established human settlement and in a fast-paced world of technology and high-rises, Lord Howe remains untouched. There has been a lot to preserve and treasure this jewel in the Tasman Ocean to ensure there is a balanced living in harmony with the natural environment.
Lord Howe Island is characterized by white-sandy beaches, subtropical forests and water so clear and blue it’s hard to believe it’s real. Whether it be swimming, snorkeling, diving, golf, cycling, hiking, mountains, bushwalking, photography, fishing or a sunset Australian BBQ- Lord Howe offers something for everyone.
The locals will embrace you with open arms, you won’t see anyone walking around glued to their phones and I can promise you will find real conversation and a real connection that will make you never want to leave.
THINGS NOT TO MISS:
CHALLENGE YOURSELF ON THE MOUNT GOWER HIKE.
From the air, sea or land the mountains of Lorde Howe dominate the landscape, as Mt Gower and Lidgbird stand guard protecting all below.
Mount Gower is the islands greatest challenge – a 875 metre mountain only to be tackled under supervision by a local guide and not for the faint hearted or those scared of heights. However if you are fit and up for a challenge and the adventure then I can promise you this experience is not something you want to miss.
Following in the footsteps of his Father and Grandfather, you will want to be guided to the Summit of Mount Gower by Jack Shick, the most passionate and experienced guide on the Island (having summited over 2000 times now).
The 14 kilometer round trip day hike is one of Australia’s best and takes approximately 8.5 hours to enjoy and complete. Beginning with a “rock-hop” along the edge of the mountain which turns through the forest of Lidgbird, the “Lower Road”  has been rung with rope along the edge of the cliff for a helmet-adorned traverse – Just try not to think about the 100m drop straight into the ocean, but get lost staring back at magnificently beautiful island.
The steep and tricky ascent begins past the morning tea break resting spot where rope is used to haul climbers into the heavens. And the summit provides one of the best and most rewarding views in the world.
Come rain or shine, standing atop Gower’s iconic peak, amongst its misty forest inhabiting the islands famous woodhen’s, as well as trees, ferns, mosses and orchids seen nowhere else on the planet, you will realize that this is a truly special and unforgettable hike.
CATCH THE SUNRISE FROM MALABAR:
I hope you have gathered by now that Lord Howe is the kind of place that “strangers” very easily become friends and you can find yourself having a BBQ watching the sunset one evening and hiking with your new friends for sunrise the next morning.
There are two ways to complete the Malabar hike on Lord Howe and I can recommend beginning the climb from Old Settlement Beach. First you will reach Kims Lookout and stop to admire the sweeping views before traversing the ridge between Kims and Malabar (two peaks).
Reaching Malabar in about an hour,  you are greeted with a spectacular view of the island and 360 degrees of pure paradise.
From here you can admire the mountains of oceanic basalt rising from the floor of the ocean to tower 875 meters above one of the most stunning shorelines’ in the world. With the Admiralty Islands to your immediate left and Balls Pyramid towering in the distant blue, it is a sight to behold.
As you descend the south ridge of Malabar be sure to stop in a Neds beach and have a swim, snorkel or feed the fish with healthy fish food that can be purchased by a $2 coin donation alongside the “honesty box” snorkel hire at the top end of the beach.
Did I mention this place is PARADISE?  All of this before a morning coffee? As always, it is worth waking up for!!
If you’re not up for the challenge of the Mount Gower hike, then this hike and view is for you. And if you have completed the Mount Gower hike this vista is yet another picturesque view of the island, that comes with fresh perspectives of your hiking achievements.
GO EXPLORING THE DEEP BLUE.
The moods of the sea dominate life on Lord Howe, nowhere else is the sea so full of life and the coral reef which encloses Lord Howe is a beautiful lagoon; home to fascinating marine animals. Globally unique, containing thousands of tropical, subtropical and temperate species (including some endemic that are found nowhere else) the marine environment is pristine.
Pro dive LHI will take you out for unforgettable day/s exploring the blue. I have been fortunate enough to have dived various sites around the world, and Australia, over the last 12 years, but having only recently recovered from quite a bad chest infection I was nervous to get back in the water. The team at Pro Dive literally welcomed me with kind open arms and had me in the water for some of the most exquisite diving I have been privileged to.
Explore the deep blue alongside dolphins, turtles, Galapagos whalers and Ballina Angelfish.
If you’re not an experienced diver that is okay, Pro dive and their amazing team run Open Water Divers course and I encourage you to open yourself up to the underwater world. What a place to learn how to dive – I can’t promise you won’t be hooked!
If diving is not something that is possible for you then don’t fear there are Glass Bottom Boat tours with Lord Howe Environmental Tours or you can go snorkeling Old Settlement beach, where you literally walk off the beach and into the bay and of a high tide can be co-existing with the beautiful, local sea turtles (from September – April)
I don’t know how to conclude a story about  a destination that completely captured my heart, and maybe it’s just that.
Have you ever found yourself in a place and felt so completely at home and at ease that would could live there?
Perhaps that is why I changed my flight last minute and stayed a few extra days to soak it all in.
The Lord Howe Island life could be the life for me.
A special thank you Sharon and Waimarie appartments for hosting me for the first few nights of my stay. A true little cabin oasis that I really cannot wait to stay at again one day. The type of place I could see myself re-visiting for the rest of my life with attention to detail that is next to none.
And Jack and Cindy Shick, from Sea to Summit Expeditions for inviting me into your home and spare room/ family space and sharing moments of kindness with me that I will cherish forever.
Lisa and Az from Pro Dive, thank you for everything all the fun, enthusiasm, encouragement and knowledge imparted – I simply cannot wait to return (fingers crossed for the shoot-out) and can’t wait to explore Balls Pyramid when I do.
Kyla, for stopping me in the street, a stranger who is now a dear friend. Thank you for the adevntures beautiful soul.
Lord Howe Island, I love you. X

The Best Family Beach Vacations in California
01 of 11
Point Reyes National Seashore
Gunter Marx/Getty Images
For the nature-loving family, a California beach vacation doesn’t get any better. At Point Reyes, you can explore miles of seashore, see a waterfall that runs right into the ocean, explore the effects of an earthquake on nature, and watch Roosevelt Elk grazing at sunset. And the scenic lighthouse has enough steps for even the most active kids to use up their excess energy.
You can visit Point Reyes any time of year, but it may be too cold and windy to spend much time on the beach there in the winter.
The only lodging inside the National Seashore is a hostel, but you can use a guide to find out where else you can stay nearby—and what else there is to do in the area.

Half Moon Bay

At Half Moon Bay, you won’t run out of beaches to explore on your vacation. In fact, three of them are part of the Half Moon Bay Beach State Park—Frances, Venice, and Dunes. You can also check out the tidepools at the Fitzgerald Marine Reserve or watch elephant seals at Ano Nuevo. Both of these are also along the San Mateo coast.
The town of Half Moon Bay offers lots of places to stay and eat, and there’s a golf course with an ocean view so beautiful that you might get distracted and lose track of your ball.

Santa Cruz

Santa Cruz has lots of beaches to play on and oceanside campgrounds that are perfect for bonfires and s’mores. This area has beaches for almost any activity you would want to take part in.
In downtown at the classic Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, adventurous kids will like the Giant Dipper, a wooden roller coaster built in 1924,  while little ones might prefer sticking to the classic carousel with its hand-carved horses.
Older kids might also enjoy renting equipment for surfing, boogie boarding, or skimboarding in one of the two places in California that claim to be the original Surf City.
If you get bored with sun and sand, you can find more things to do with the family in Santa Cruz, including the utterly touristy but fun Mystery Spot.

The game Version fashions are targeted on overall performance and function diverse modifications over the standard version. The way to Be Remarkable – Sports Version Being an unmarried lady in Southern California will have its united states of America and downs. There were plenty of instances where I crashed a date and became the third wheel so I should get out of the house, and lots of days I stayed domestic watching a film or worked out at the gymnasium on a Saturday night time. Those are all exceptional things to do, but I was getting a touch bored and that I decided I had to make my own fun and no longer wait for a round for a person to make my life extra interesting. I’ve actually made for this a concern this 12 months and I have determined a few matters that I now love to do with buddies or by myself and make new pals. My life is fuller due to the fact I determined to get out there and try new things and no longer be involved I might be horrible or fail. I determined to the percentage a number of the matters I’ve come upon and proportion them in the sequence referred to as “A way to Be Wonderful.” This weekend turned into no exception and it changed into a laugh Sports filled weekend.
Friday night changed into hockey night. This yr I found the awesome game this is hockey. where guys take a skate to the face, get 35 stitches, and cross back out and make assists to help their team win (total Brad Staubitz shout out!) I am so lucky that the Anaheim Ducks and the Honda Middle are just a 30 minute pressure down the fifty-seven and I have a few first-rate friends who enjoy hockey and will educate me greater about the sport.
One of the best things approximately Duck’s video games are you could go and revel in the game without spending tons of cash. I’ve been to three games this season and have not paid greater than $20 for a superb night. Web sites like eBay and StubHub are exquisite places to search for reasonably-priced tickets. There definitely isn’t always an awful seat, you can see the movement from the pinnacle of the Honda Center, despite the fact that sitting on the glass is a good.
CBS sports
As we have been leaving the Duck’s game we noticed a signal for the Island Golfing Center Riding Range. it’s far a fantastic Riding Range where your goal for little islands in a lake. It tests your potential and accuracy which I do not own.
I’ve been to a Using Variety as soon as about 6 years in the past and become no longer notable at it and my friend had in no way been. We looked it up and a large bucket of balls changed into just $7.50 and that they gave you clubs to use if your older brother would not lend you his. My friend and that I determined to take advantage of the lovely So Cal weather these days and try out our PGA style Golf abilities.
You’ll be thinking that it become horrible for 2 women to go hit some Golfing ball with clearly no revel in, and you’ll be so wrong. I showed my friend the 2 matters I remembered from my one lesson and we went to paintings. Yes, there were plenty of times we ignored the ball absolutely or hit it three ft in the front people, but, there have been many greater instances of achievement. After about an hour we hit a few balls approximately 75 yards and almost hit a few islands and Ducks too.
It turned into a laugh and now not embarrassing to be horrific. We made a few new pals who taught us a few more hints and enjoyed a day inside the solar with a touch workout as properly

Wii Sports Resort Detailed Review
New Post has been published on https://netmaddy.com/wii-sports-resort-detailed-review/
Wii Sports Resort Detailed Review
Wii Sports Resort is the highly anticipated sequel to the original Wii Sports that came bundled with the Nintendo Wii. Like it’s predecessor, Wii Sports Resort contains a variety of sports games. This new edition has Sword Play, Wake Boarding, Frisbee, Archery, Basketball, Table Tennis, Golf, Bowling, Power Cruising, Canoeing, Cycling, and Air Sports. All but Bowling and Golf are new to the Wii Sports package.
Wii Sports Resort is also the first launch of the Wii Motion Plus. The Wii Motion Plus is an-add on attachment that uses a dual-axis angular rate sensor which can calculate rotational motion. This is a simple attachment that snaps into the bottom the Wii remote. One Wii Motion Plus attachment is needed for each controller. The original release of Wii Sports Resort came with one Wii Motion Plus attachment, but a later release offered a version with two. With the Wii Motion Plus game motion control is improved greatly. Now the Wii remote catches the slightest movement in any direction.
This game is a great multi-player game. It makes a great game for family and friends. Most games you can play with at least two players at once and some games you can play up to four players. There are a few sports that you can only play by yourself like Showdown, Sky diving, and Island Flyover Planet Reporter.
The game takes place at a sports resort at Wuhu Island. Each of the sporting events is scattered all around the island. As soon as you start the game up you are literally dropped off onto the Island by a plane with a team of sky divers giving you glimpse of the sky diving game available in Air Sports.
Now lets get into the details of the game. I’m going to start with my personal favorite, Table Tennis (Ping Pong).
Table Tennis:
If you loved Tennis in the original Wii Sports game, then you are going to love Table Tennis. I myself even enjoy it more than Tennis. Now, this is nothing like the Table Tennis is Wii Play, this is a whole lot better. The game is a match to 6 points where you need to win by two points (a match to ten can be played by holding down the 2 button when choosing your Mii). To serve you toss the Wii remote up or press A, then swing the remote either forward hand or backhand to serve. What makes this game great is the control you have over the game. You can do a normal hit by swinging directly forward, do a top spin by flipping your wrist forward while you swing, and you can chop/cut by swinging the remote in a downward motion. I must say the control is quite amazing. Rallies can get quite long as you reach the advanced levels and you will have to use a lot of spin to beat the champion level Mii’s. Just like in Tennis the Mii’s make all kinds of diving saves which make for great rallies. Use strategies such as hitting the balls to the corners to make them pop the ball up for an easy slam, but watch out in the later rounds they make lots of crazy returns (good luck beating Lucia). Another little surprise is the celebrity Mii’s that make their cameo appearances on the stands and even as opponents. I’ve had to face Ozzie Osborn, Michael Jackson, and Keith Richards just to name a few.
Besides the regular Table Tennis game there is the Return Challenge. In this mode, like in Tennis, a trainer serves you balls constantly until you miss. Along the way aluminum cans will pop up on the table as targets. Each time you hit a can your score raises up. This mode helps in fine tuning your aiming skills.
Sword Play:
This is probably my second favorite sports game. More so for all three of the modes than just the dual mode itself. In Dual mode you have a sword battle with a computer or another player on the top of a circular tower. The point of the match is to knock your opponent off of the tower into the pool below. The best 2 out of 3 wins the match. With sword play you can attack in any direction by swinging your sword from up to down, left to right, or diagonal up or down. You can also block by holding the B button and moving the remote in a defensive position. You must put the remote in the correct blocking position based on the direction the opponent swings. If you make a successful block the opponent will fall back unbalanced allowing you to attack them. In the beginning round you can just go all out offensive and win most of the time, but in the later rounds you must be more tactful and learn how to block.
Speed Slice mode is one of my favorite multi-player modes of this game. In speed slice you will get to slice through all kinds of random objects such as logs, timers, cupcakes, bamboo, oranges, etc. The point of the game is to slice through the object in the direction the arrow points the fastest. A judge will throw up an object at varied speeds and whoever slices through the object in the correct direction first wins a point. The first to 10 points wins the match. This is a great one for family and friends you will spend hours competing against each other to see who has the fastest reactions. Also its fun just slicing something up.
Showdown mode is probably my favorite single player mode in this game. Take your dual skills and apply them to battle the masses. Here you will have fight against an army of guys to beat each of the levels. While there is a mob of Mii’s you are battling only one Mii can attack you at a time. It can take up to 3 hits to kill a Mii. A Mii’s hearts determine the number of times you must hit them to knock them out. In the early rounds you can just mow through them and go nuts without any regard to blocking. Later on they get smart and start blocking and you must imply your sword skill strategies to defeat the army of Mii’s. This is a great addition to the Sword Play mode and I’ve spent countless hours of fun beating these levels.
Archery:
My next favorite sport would be Archery. Archery shows off the accuracies of the new Wii motion plus accessory. With archery you hold up the remote up like a bow and pull the nun chuck back like an arrow move the remote around for aiming and let it fly. The slightest movement will make a big difference in this event. Each round a player gets 3 shots. If you hit the bulls eye you get 10 points. There are a total of 3 rounds. The target gets pushed back further in each round. Whoever has the most cumulative points in the end wins the game. Make sure when aiming you take into account the wind factor and gravity. Each of these aspects get more difficult the further the target is. This is one of those games that is easy to play but hard to master.
Wake Boarding:
In Wake Boarding your are towed by a speed boat in which your Mii hangs onto the line and you do jumps and tricks to earn points. The more better the tricks and jumps are more points you will receive. In this case you hold the Wii remote horizontally to the ground and tip the remote to the left or right to guide your Mii through the ocean. When you get to a wave you must flip the remote up to jump and do tricks then you must straighten on the remote to level in order to make your landing. When you make consecutive landings the boat driver will speed up allowing you to jump higher and do better tricks. In later rounds there are pylons that you must avoid hitting.
Air Sports:
In Sky Diving you get to jump out of an airplane with a group of Mii’s. As you fall from the sky you control your Mii by holding the control horizontal and tilting it upwards and downwards. Think of the remote as your body, as you hold the remote flat your body has most air resistance and you will slow down and not move in any direction. If you tilt the remote downwards you will speed up in the direction you tilt the remote. The same goes with tilting backwards accept you will move feet first. These controls are integrated flawlessly. The main point of this game is to meet up with as many Mii’s as you can and pose (face towards the camera) for photographs with them. In the end you need to grab as many Mii’s as you can to make the final formation and direct your group through ring targets on the way down. Points are determined on how many Mii’s you were able to take photographs with, the quality of the photographs, and how many rings targets you passed through.
Island Flyover is a great change of pace. If you feel like taking a break from the action filled games this game can be relaxing. Basically you fly a tour plane around Wuhu Island and find all the points of interest. When you spot an ‘i’ go towards it and fly through the circle to gain an ‘i’ point for your trip. Each trip out you are given five minutes to fly around and find all the points of interest. To fly the plane you hold the Wii remote like you would throw a paper airplane. Tilting the remote in an direction gives you precise control of your movements. Quickly shoot the plane in bursts by thrusting the remote forward like throwing a dart. At first this game can seem a little too slow, but as you start trying to find all the ‘i’ points on the map it can start to get interesting. Some of the ‘i’ points are hidden away in volcanoes, tunnels, attached to moving objects, and small hidden away crevices. It can be a challenge to fly your plane through these tunnels without crashing. As you gain more ‘i’ points you get some upgrades such as being able to shoot balloons, getting a bi-plane to bring a passenger with you, and getting your Mii put on the blimp. By the time you find all the ‘i’ points you know Wuhu Island like the back of your hand.
Dogfight is a two-player game in which you and a friend go one on one in pursuit for the most points. Each player starts with 20 points, which is displayed on a balloon trailing your plane. Ring targets will randomly show up with points posted inside the ring, whoever goes through the ring first gains those points. Every time you shoot your opponents balloon they lose one point. So, if it looks like your opponent is going to beat you to the ring target you try to shoot his balloons while trailing behind him. If you are the one in front then you try to dodge their shots. When the time runs out whoever has the most points wins.
Power Cruising:
Power Cruising is basically jet skiing. You hold the Wii Remote in one had and the Wii nun chuck in the other like you are holding the handle bars of a jet ski. Lean to the left or right to steer and twist the remote toward you like a throttle and you will get a boost. When going over a wave you lift up to make a jump. This game can be a race to gain the most points individually or against an opponent in vs. mode. The point of the game is to finish the race with the most points. You gain points by passing through rings that have a count down timer on them. The faster you get to the ring the more points you will receive. Some rings have an inner ring which give you added bonus points. In the more advanced round the waves get a lot rougher and makes controlling your jet ski much more difficult.
Basketball:
The 3-Point Contest in basketball is just like the All-Star game. You get a rack balls at five destinations around the 3-point mark. Each rack has four regular balls plus a money ball. If you hit all your shots you can get a total of 30 points. To pick up the ball you point the remote downward and press B. Shooting is just like shooting a regular basketball, lift the ball up pull the remote back over your head and flick it forward as if you were putting a backwards rotation on the ball. Overall it almost has the feel of shooting a real ball. Timing the release at the top of the jump along with how you flick the remote forward is key to making the baskets. You have 60 seconds to complete all racks.
The Pickup Game is a 3 on 3 half court basketball game. It kind of reminds me of the basketball version of the Wii Sports baseball game. It’s basically a simplified version of a basketball game in order to make it motion sense friendly. On offense you can pass, shoot, or dunk. On defense you can swipe for a steal or block shots. Passing the ball around to the correct Mii can be a bit of a challenge. Shooting is just like it is in the 3-point contest. Attempting a dunk will show you in a dunk animation in which you must flick the remote down at the right time to complete the dunk. When on defense it’s pretty easy to block a shot if you time correctly. Just as they start to shoot flick the remote up to block the shot. While this can be fun to play, don’t expect it to be a full blown out basketball game.
Frisbee:
Frisbee Dog takes place on the beach where you fling a Frisbee and your dog goes and catches it. The point of the game is to toss the Frisbee onto a target and accumulate the most points. Along the way there is balloons that you can aim for to get bonus points. Control of the Frisbee is not an easy task to master. It does showoff the precision of the Wii Motion Plus. To throw the Frisbee you need to press the B button hold the remote horizontally toward your stomach in one hand and fling forward just like throwing a Frisbee. You must also pay attention to what angle you fling the remote at as it will determine the angle at which the Frisbee will fly out at. Next you must release the B button at the precise time to determine which direction the Frisbee will go. All of this takes a little practice to get it all down.
Frisbee Golf is basically just as it sounds, but instead of hitting a golf ball in the hole you have to throw the Frisbee onto the target while your on the golf course. Instead of different types of golf clubs you have a choice of three different types of Frisbee’s each. Each Frisbee goes a different average distance.
Cycling:
Cycling is a one or two player event in which you race through courses on Wuhu Island. This game is a great fitness game as you have to always wave your arms up and down to keep peddling. Movement is made by moving your hand up and down in opposite directions just as if you were paddling the bike with your hands. This can start to get really tiring as some of the courses are quite long. There is a heart meter which gages how tired your Mii gets. The more constant you peddle the more tired your Mii gets. If you run out of hearts you will break down and wait until you catch your breath again. You can avoid losing your hearts fast by drafting behind other bikers. The steering in the game is similar to Power Cruising. Just lean to the left or right to control the direction. In the game you will need to avoid things such as bananas and oil slicks. In the end you will have had to master your drafting techniques to earn first places finishes.
Canoeing:
Canoeing is a pretty simple sport to play. You just hold the remote in both hands like an oar and start rowing. Just as you were in a canoe itself you need to paddle from both sides to make it go in a straight line. In practice mode you can go around the lake collecting ducklings to follow you around and bring them to the mother duck. In timed mode you just have to row as fast as you can through the course. As you get in the more advance stages there are a lot more obstacles that you will need to avoid to finish the race.
Bowling:
Bowling in Wii Sports Resort seems all to familiar. It is basically the same as the Wii Sports game except it is enhanced with the Wii motion plus. You can definitely tell that it is much more sensitive to spin and motion. I’ve found that I’ve gotten less strikes than I was able to get in the previous edition. This just goes to show you have to be more accurate to get a strike. Bowling also offer a game where you can play with 100 pins instead of 10. This makes getting a strike and spare a whole lot trickier. There is also as Spin Control mode which brings you through a ten frame set that have blocks in the lanes that you need to avoid. This is similar to the training session in the original accept it is recorded as a full 10 frame game.
Golf:
Golf is the other sport that has returned from the original Wii Sports. Golf is also very similar to its predecessor however with the addition of the Wii Motion Plus it is also a whole lot touchier. Now you have to make sure you swing the golf club straight or your ball will slice to the sides. This can take a whole lot of practice just to hit the ball straight. Golf is one of those games that is easy to play, but hard to master.
In conclusion Wii Sports Resort is an excellent Wii game. I give it a mark of 4.5 stars out of 5. With a set of 12 different games along with several subsets of games Wii Sports Resort is definitely a must have game for the Nintendo Wii system. I would purchase this game alone for Table Tennis and Sword Play. Be sure not to miss out on this Wii Game.
