are there different types of ghosts in colorquest? if so are they common or able to be seen at all?
So ghosts in the universe are only able to be ghosts for one of two reasons: If they are cursed, OR. They died prematurely, in the eye of fate.
Ghosts cannot be seen through regular means, and I'll get back to that soon.
A cursed ghost is often an uneasy ghost, and these ghosts are the cause of malevolent supernatural activity. They're more hostile, usually.
These are the more common type of ghost-- but don't let that make you think there's tons out there. Curses aren't common, and curses that specifically ensure that a soul may never rest are even less common.
On the flip side, premature ghosts are ghosts that wander as an echo on the plane of reality. They do this because they were tied to an event that was 'planned,' or fated to happen. This is a rare phenomenon. Once the event in question passes, however long into the future, these ghosts suffer a more violent fate.
They do not get to rest peacefully, they do not get to come back to life, they are made into another eye of fate-- an amalgamation of entities that are used in the persuasion of fate to help control the future fate of the universe. Essentially they are hiccups in a grand plan that get recycled.
It might not sound violent, but the complete loss of self merging into the overbearing mind of fate, does not mean they are gone. They just suffer in there and are driven mad, with no chance in being resurrected. That's just their new eternity. At least cursed ghosts still have a chance to rest x_x.
So ghosts have a few ways they can be seen, but are not corporeal by default. Lauren, for Tanner, enacts a ceremony to reveal him (resurrecting him is another story). In what is essentially a seance, the ghost in question must be present and must accept the corporealization.
If they are fated like Tanner, this does not stop their fated end from coming. If they are cursed, their presence can become a lot more dangerous, though is often necessary if one is attempting to break the curse.
If a seance is not possible, there are magical powders that can be used to coat the ghost, revealing them in the right conditions. These wear off quickly and do not allow their voices to come through like they would via seance.
In some rare circumstances, ghosts can be seen naturally as well. Usually cursed ghosts, who manifest heavily through objects of importance. Places where the sun cannot shine, within reflections, etc.
Fated ghosts are typically only seen naturally if they are in the exact right place in the exact right time-- if they are en route where they would have been, were they still to be alive. That's a very narrow window that they are often not aware of. This can result in things like seeing a ghost walking for a small blip in time, or finding a ghost sleeping in a bed; Disturbed, and they vanish.
There are both types of ghosts in the main story. Tanner and Frigus, who are ghosts of fate, and the past West Wiles and his lineage, who are a set of cursed ghosts.

WAIT I WANNA BRING UP ANOTHER THING ABOUT HOW BULLYING IS ADDRESSED IN NERDY PRUDES MUST DIE. one thing I really liked about how Max is shown as a bully is his talk with Pete at the Pasqualli's parking lot. When Pete tries to stand up to Max, Max pushes him down and emphasizes that Pete isn't a loser because of his own qualities - rather, Pete is a loser because Max simply said so.
Of course we can attribute this to Max's god complex but I think that this point in particular is less than often really brought up in teen-centered media featuring bullying: that bullying exists not because of nerdy behavior or whatever the fuck, but because bullies will it into being. And to have a BULLY of all people say that out loud - to have the main villain point out the root of their behavior without showing any kind of shame whatsoever - showcases just how much of a menace Max is.

I was watching a YouTube review for The Secret History, and the person voiced that there was nothing sad about Bunny’s death and that one could really only be happy about it, and that Francis was just there vibing the whole novel, not doing anything wrong. And that’s when I clicked off the review. I mean, this is fiction so you’re welcome to be happy Bunny died. He’s not real and also functions as a part of a story, and if you’re glad he’s out of there, fine. But I’m sorry I just do not think that was a happy occasion or that Francis was “just vibing.” 😭

sanji and zoro are both luffy’s beloved little guard dogs but in very different ways and honestly I think that’s half the reason they can’t stop fighting. see zoro is luffy’s guard dog and not only does he know it, he Loves it. he is actively begging for luffy to tell him to go bite people for him; he wants to not only be luffy’s favorite guard dog but his most vicious, his most obedient. zoro wants the whole fucking world to know that luffy’s got your worst nightmare sitting patiently at his feet, waiting for his orders.
meanwhile sanji doesn’t necessarily need to be luffy’s favorite, but he DOES need luffy to tell him what a good dog he’s been, how useful and needed he is. but unlike zoro he’d fucking die before he admitted or openly responded to any of this, so in the meantime sanji’s desperately looking for swords to throw himself on so he can show everyone how wonderfully devoted he is (bc obvi self sacrifice is the ultimate and honestly only acceptable show of love and devotion) and chewing himself up inside with the weight of his own need.
all of this obviously creates a fun little perfect storm, where sanji resents the ease with which zoro can just be luffy’s and do as he pleases, and zoro can’t help but act on anything that could be remotely perceived as a challenge, and so they just end up biting each others heads off ad infinitum. meanwhile luffy is more aware of all this than honestly zoro and sanji are themselves (which isn’t always saying much) but he couldn’t give less of a fuck beyond the fact that zoro and sanji are, above all else, His, and he’ll do his best to make sure they never get the chance to forget it.
