Headcanons about Loki’s kids (and Strongbeard) in the Ducktales universe
cuz someone has to develop them
Jormungandr:
—So one time I read a post about someone talking about “Rumble for Ragnarok” and they said this
“Jormungand being really a pretty decent guy, just way too addicted to the crowds’ cheers and praise after millenia of being considered a monster and a harbinger of unspeakable doom, making him even more insecure and prone to get in over his head and lose control than Dewey”
THISSSSSSS I AGREE WITH THIS HC 100%! He’s a decent guy, he really is. It’s just that he’s so prone to getting over his head and forgetting his morals bc he’s insecure about how others view him. Unfortunately, the most recent Rumble for Ragnarok caused him to be frowned upon again like the old times
—HATES being referred to as a “monster” and anyone else being called as such. It’s to the point where he physically has to restrain himself from going full Midgard Serpent and killing people on the spot. Brings back waaaay too many bad memories from his childhood
—Also hated Thor from the very beginning and will never miss a chance to talk shit about him
—He and his siblings knew they wanted to be wrestlers from the minute they were kids and would always roughhouse with each other.
Maybe in the Ducktales universe, Ragnarok was SUPPOSED to be an epic battle where everyone dies but once Odin saw what Loki’s kids were doing, he was like “F it, wrestling it is”
—Best friends with Strongbeard; they formed a bit of a rift after the episode but Jor knows when he’s in the wrong so they were able to rekindle that fire pretty quickly
—Loves his family with all his heart and is very close with Hecka and Fenrir. He may suffer from Middle Child Syndrome but they still have each other’s backs. He just wishes he could see them more often like when they were all innocent kids
—Looks nothing like his parents (I see Loki as a crow/raven like Hecka and Angrboda as an anthro wolf) and he knows it. He tends to avoid the question whenever he’s asked about it
—Is closer to his mother than his dad “because mom didn’t throw me into the sea when I was a kid.”
Hecka:
—As the myth goes, Odin appointed her as ruler of the land of the unrighteous dead (aka Helheim…or would it be Heckheim?) when she was just a child. She’s still bitter about it to this day, even after she realized her love for the macabre bc seriously, who does that to a KID?
Hecka: Then Odin shunned me down here, keeping me as a prisoner in my own realm to watch over the dead
Odin: It was your destiny!
Hecka: I WAS SIX.
—I like to imagine Scrooge’s family went on an adventure to “rescue” Baldr from Hecka in the underworld and that’s where her petty side comes out lmao. She doesn’t show much emotion, but I think this is deserved
—She showed a lot more emotion as a kid, but being a ruler of the underworld kinda changes that
—Nevertheless, she’s made it work and has come to actually like her job. She’s got a big castle, tons of stuff, 2 servants both named “Lazy Walker” (they’re idiots and no, don’t ask) and of course, her loyal pet guard dog, Garm. Although Strongbeard, bless him, is a tad concerned about the names she gave her stuff (like her bed is called “sick bed” and her plate is called “Hunger” like what-). Don’t judge her, she named them when she was a kid
—Lesbian and ace cuz why not
Fenrir:
—As said before, Fenrir sticks with Hecka cuz he feels like he needs to protect his baby sister (cuz apparently she’s the youngest) with his life
—Is usually referred to as Hecka’s pet and while he does kinda act like it, it annoys him
—The incident with Tyr in his perspective was a complete accident. He thought the gods were just playing a game with him. He didn’t mean to bite Tyr’s hand off, he just didn’t know his own strength
—Even though he only communicates through sounds, he’s the brains of the group
Strongbeard:
—His real name is Magnar (which according to google means ‘strength’)
—Himbo. He means well but he can be a bit of a dumbass at times
—Having said that, he always prioritizes doing the right thing even when others protest. His mama taught him right
—Speaking of which, he’s a total mama’s boy and isn’t afraid to say it. His mom was his whole world
—Emotionally unstable due to trauma, no he does not wanna talk about it
—Very sweet and genuine guy, which is why he’s so well-liked
—He’s generous too, he’ll give anyone a strand of his hair just because. He has plenty lol
—Defies the “men don’t cry” myth cuz he has absolutely cried before. Fuck toxic masculinity
—I’m trying to think of how exactly he got his powers and off the top of my head, I’m gonna say it’s from a special object that dwarves created that gives you immense strength.
Strongbeard was born prematurely, very weak and fragile and told that he was most likely never gonna make it. In an effort to save her baby, his mother crushed up the object and mixed with a potion to be fed to her baby boy. When he drank it, he became strong and healthy overnight, eventually growing a magic beard that gave him the physical strength he needed
Yeah I got inspired by Tangled
Bonus Loki headcanon: Loki personally trained his kids in the first place and he says weird shit like this
youtube
#Youtube#aiight i think i got em all#idk why but loki was the first character i thought of while watching the video#god i love doobus goobus#only makes sense for a god of trickery and chaos to say weird shit like that lol#this was kinda fun#still not really a ducktales fan but these guys have been in my mind a lot recently#ducktales 2017#jormundgandr#hecka#fenrir#strongbeard

TOS novel book review McCoy edition nr 4 - Planet of Judgment
I knew there was a TOS novel where McCoy's wife was called Honey and she divorced him because they hadn't been intimate in three whole weeks, but I didn't remember it was Planet of Judgment. And I am judging this book.
Link to the previous review
Title: Planet of Judgment Author: Joe Haldeman Year published: 1977 (this was one of the very first trek novels ever published)
Content warning: a few descriptions of dying and wounded people, a bit of body horror
Plot summary in two sentences: A pretty large landing party including Kirk, Spock, and McCoy get stuck on a planet where natural laws don't seem to work and they have a few very bad no good days playing "stranded on a planet trying to kill us" before the aliens make contact, and then they are experimented on but like, it's clearly for a good reason so it's all fine (it's not). This book seemed like it could have been a TOS episode but mercifully it wasn't. Official plot summary: Never before had the Enterprise been betrayed by its own technology. Never before had their systems, instruments and weapons failed to respond. And never before had Kirk, Spock, McCoy and the rest of the crew faced a total breakdown of science and sanity... until they stumbled on the mysterious world that couldn't exist... A world orbited by a black hole ruled by chaos - where man was a helpless plaything for a race of beings more powerful than the laws of the universe. A brain-bending voyage into the unknown with the Starship ENTERPRISE.
This book is for you if you:
Kinda like the classic 70s scifi plot style
Want to read every novel that has McCoy in it (his parts are fun)
Enjoy philosophical questions such as "Is experimenting on aliens ethical if the constant 'clatter clatter' from their brains is really annoying? Like, super annoying. Honest." and "If Spock has read romance novels and knows about fake dating, does that mean every fanfic on the subject where it's Spock's idea is no longer out of character (asking for a friend)?"
Want to read a really detailed description of the scene on Vulcan in Amok Time minus the part about Jim's shirt being sliced open because that was apparently not important
This book was 50% not very interesting and 50% wow, he really wrote that huh 🫢
The ultimate McCoy questionnaire under the read-more (some spoilers):
1. Is McCoy in it?
Yes! More than I excepted at the beginning of the book!
2. Is McCoy in it a lot?
If you can get through the first part of the book, McCoy gets lots of time to shine. If you cut out most of the book and keep the McCoy parts I'd say it was a really good book.
3. Does he get to be concerned over whatever angst has befallen Kirk lately?
Well, yes and no. He's befallen with the same angst. Mostly. He gets to sneak in a "heh I really don't envy you having to be captain, Captain" in there. And there's a few hours where he thinks Jim is dead. The book doesn't linger too much on his anxiety but to be fair the book skips ahead quite a lot and isn't too keen on explanations.
But in a memorable scene he cuts down a tree and it falls right on top Jim 🤨
4. Does he get to have silly little arguments with Spock?
Read these excerpts from the book and tell me this isn't potentially the weirdest exchange of words he's ever had with Spock.
There was a really classic exchange though between the three of them that hit their dynamic just right (after Spock and McCoy join Jim to be stranded with him on the planet because they missed him):
Spock: You volunteered for the mission, Doctor. Surely there must have been some thread of logic to support your decision.
McCoy: Only intuition, Spock. Worked out the same.
Kirk: Whatever your reasons, I'm glad to see both of you but sorry we put you in the soup.
5. Is he the damsel in distress?
Not at all :/ But he does say "Good God. I wish Jim was here." so at least he was feeling like a damsel in distress.
6. Does he suffer, preferably a lot? Physical and/or psychological torment.
Mostly psychological, there's the experimenting of course and an injured crewmember that disappears and comes back all wrong and of course he blames himself for it for a while. And he gets to re-live when his wife left him. Because they, uh, haven't been intimate since March 3rd (three weeks ago). Presumably that wasn't the only thing but his immediate reaction to her taking their daughter and leaving the apartment is seeing an ad for Starfleet in a magazine and going "oh yeah I'll join Starfleet, that'll show her". Show her what? I have questions, Mr. Haldeman. And I think he could have suffered a bit more but I suppose there needed to be enough room for Kirk to have a sword-fight against pirates.
7. Does he get to whine and complain and be right about it? Even better, is he wrong about it?
Both he and Jim have these weird little rambling half-asleep thinking sessions that take up a couple of pages of unstructured and barely legible writing. He does complain about the experimentation though, and he gives Jim a really dirty look once. Most of his complaints are very reasonable in this one.
8. Does he get to throw some of that southern charm around?
There's a throwaway line that he's interested in one of the women in the landing party, but it really is thrown away and not used? He's always charming, though. Why is this even a question. Even Spock agrees in this book.
9. Does he get to do some medical malpractice?
Well now. He has to do stitches and use a knife, not even a clean one. And you know he hates such medieval practices but the medical instruments aren't working. I'd say that counts as medical malpractice. He also gets to kill a guy? I think that goes against his oath or something.
10. Does Spock call him illogical or similar?
Only a little bit. This is one of those missions where they finish each other's thoughts etc. so like. They're besties<3
11. Is he forcibly put through his arch nemesis the transporter? Or the dress uniform?
He has to go in a shuttle (not shown but I assume he didn't like it) and then he gets telepathically beamed through space by aliens with pretty bad aim several times :3
12. Does Kirk call him handsome (joke or not this happens more than you’d think)?
No but he complains that McCoy knows all the ship's scuttlebutt about who's sleeping with who and so on. McCoy was so ready to read out a list to Jim but I think he decided that as captain he's better off not knowing. And he tells McCoy not to get into mutiny-territory which, when you think about it, is kind of the same as calling him hot.
13. Bonus points if his accent is pronounced and his speech is full of befuddling southern expressions which make Spock question McCoy’s sanity (and me wondering if I need a dictionary)
He calls Spock "weirder than a whistling fish" and it took me forever to realize it wasn't some southern expression (or is it?) it's just that if a fish whistled it would be pretty weird. Anyway Spock is like yeah okay fair enough.
McCoy calls one of the aliens "ugly son of a bitch" so at least he got to swear in this one.
Criticisms/things I’d change
I'm sure this book is a product of its time so I won't be too hard on it. But if I could, I'd definitely elaborate on the scene where Spock asks McCoy to help him get rid of Chapel's interest in him. Like, I just think it has so much potential. Just trust me on this I'll make it really normal and not at all weird (it was already weird). Jokes aside I think they spent too much time playing "help we're stranded on a planet trying to kill us" and in the end no one even explained how all the science around the planet worked, just chalked it up to "oooh powerful aliens". The ending was interesting though. Being experimented on is enrichment for Starfleet officers.
Highlights:
To be honest the best part was where the aliens beamed everyone back to the ship using their mind powers only, except for Jim and Spock, and then after ten minutes they were like hey actually we made a mistake we're bringing McCoy back. They put my poor wife through something worse than the transporter twice when they could have just kept him on the planet all along, and said hey how about you help us save the world against evil scorpions with your will power, no pressure but we start in ten minutes and you'll probably die :D Also he sleeps on a bunch of cardboard boxes? And gets to cut down trees with the scifi equivalent of a chainsaw? And he gets to play mind poker in some kind of gangster movie setting... Fun times all around!
Final McCoy meter: 8/10
#tos novel review#planet of judgment#it's possible that the first half was a bit boring bc there was barely any mccoy in it#obviously i'm not biased or anything :3#if you're wondering 'what the hell was this book even about?' after reading the review then idk what to tell you#i'm wondering the same thing

@siezult
Alright, so.
Why did Basil show up? Because this is a dramatic scene and the drama genre relies on inconveniences to make the situation worse for the characters and progress the plot. Yeah it is convenient, but thats kinda the point?
It's one thing when the situation is made worse via a believable circumstance that is, even if it's slightly improbable, is explained by the story itself. I can suspend my disbelief then. It is, however, very different when the situation is made worse via a random occurence that's not only highly improbable, but is left entirely unexplained. In the latter case, it's usually bad writing.
Contrived coincidences are not inherently a bad trope. Tropes are tools, after all. There's a reason said trope is mostly used in comedies, though - make a coincidence too contrived in any other genre, and the story intended to be serious will become farce instead.
If you want an in-universe reason, Basil’s parents arent there to drive him to the ceremony, so he decides to stay at sunny’s house the night before so they can take him there.
There is no proof of this in the game.
I wouldn’t say she “didn’t tolerate mistakes”
I never said that either.
I wouldn’t say its out of character for her to react that way because its perfectly human to react negatively when annoyed, especially when its about something she really cares about like her music. I think it shows more of her character that she isn’t perfect all the time and will sometimes have a bad side.
My point was that her 'bad side" is only relevant to the story when it's needed to give Sunny a reason to lash out at her. It has no bearing on her character otherwise. I've said as such in the post.
Finally, why are you insinuating that Sunny is this awful person?
Because I have proof he is.
Like, yes, his accident was awful, and he shouldn’t have lied to everyone, but at the same time, he was fucking 12. A mortified 12-year old scared shitless of what will happen to him after people find out about his manslaughter will obviously make dumb decisions; he clearly wasn’t thinking straight at the time and was just doing what he got told would “fix” the situation.
Honestly, I'm sick of this argument. I've seen it so many times it's not even funny at this point.
1) You're talking about Sunny as if you are defending a real kid. He is a fictional character whose decisions have been predetermined by an adult writer, and thus I will judge said decisions accordingly.
2) "He's 12" removes Sunny's agency as a character - by your logic and the logic of essentially everyone using this argument, he can't be held responsible for anything bad he ever does for the sole reason of being a stupid kid. A 12 yo may be immature, impulsive and inexperienced, but not necessarily stupid.
3) A "mortified" 12-year-old who "wasn't thinking straight at the time" would not feel "at peace" upon seeing his sister's hanged body.
If anything you should be mad at Basil for making the decision to lie and dragging Sunny in on it.
1) Basil wouldn't have needed to lie if it wasn't for Sunny fucking up in the first place lmao
2) It's true Basil created the lie, but it was Sunny who chose to uphold it.
I think being a depressed, suicidal, possibly anorexic shut-in for 4 years is quite a punishment.
An entirely internal and self-inflicted one, yes. My point was that he suffers no external consequences (e.g. his friends leaving him since they're pissed at him), and the canonical state of the group after the confession is left ambiguous.
I'm not going to feel bad for an asshole whose only remarkable trait is feeling bad for himself all the time without ever doing much.
it’s implied Sunny’s parents knew, and was the reasoning for his dad leaving.
Source that isn't a single contextless quote in Black Space 2?
If his parents actually knew the truth all along, they woukd've been a lot more relevant to the game's plot. As it is, it's more likely the father left because the suicide of his daughter destroyed the marriage.
him “conveniently skipping town” wasn’t his choice. He didn’t intend to avoid repercussions by moving
That's why the word "conveniently" is there - it's true it wasn't his choice to move, but it still reads as a convenient way for the story to let him off the hook.
him moving was the catalyst for the games events as its when sunny decides to tell his friends the truth and give them closure, meaning Sunny is well aware that his friends would likely hate him, but thinks it would be for the better for them to know.
1) Source?
2) This implies Sunny would've been perfectly content to continue upholding Basil's lie were it not for external circumstances forcing him to come clean.
3) Given that Sunny wants to come clean purely for his own peace of mind, this also implies Sunny doesn't decide to reveal the truth out of a genuine desire to make things right - he wants to do it just because he has a deadline and he needs to get his weight off his shoulders while he still has the time.

A short discussion of light and dark
Have you ever noticed how people seem to treat darker topics as the more "serious and adult" form of entertainment?
Because I do and it kinda bothers me.
Light, hopeful, whimsical stories seem often seem to be connected to children, while darker topics are regarded more mature and to a point that makes sense. Children don't see the bad things in the world as we adults do or at least we try to protect them from it. Stories written for them therefore don't delve too deep into topics that are considered too dark for them.
But the thing is: mature and dark are not the same thing. Serious and depressing are not the same. A story can be lighthearted and still be very serious.
Since I am a fantasy nerd I most often see this with fantasy stories. Be it games, movies or books. And I think it was my teenage years where I first noticed this phenomenon. If a story was darker, maybe bloodier, more deadly or dealt with mature themes like sex or abuse it was deemed better or more interesting by my peers. It wasn't that uncommon to hear critisism against a more lighthearted piece of media that boiled down to "it's unrealistic". And I think that is really nihilistic? The world isn't all sunshine and rainbows, no, but it is also not a horrible hell hole. Of course people who said this could have been just some teenage edgellrds who would eventually grow out of it, but here is the thing: some never did.
One piece of media I see this jappen to a lot is Legend of Zelda. While I haven't heard the critisism that it is unrealistic, I did hear people say that it is for children and then compare it to something more "mature" like Elden Ring or Dark Souls. Which is ... wild to me? Like yeah, both are fantasy games, but the target demographic is wildly different. At this point you are judging a game based of a colour palette.
"The old story of one hero defeating evil is so overdone and boring! It's so naive."
Yeah but it's also beautiful???
The hero that saves it all is a trope that lasted generations for a reason and while you can critisize aspects of it, it is simply fun. Maybe not to all, but to many who aren't always children.
I also hear that darker subjects are more thought provoking which I don't always disagree with, but I don't think the overall tone needs to be overly depressing for that. Lots of thoughts can also arive from how wonderful the world is.
I recently started watching Doctor Who and while yes, the show does have some really dark elements at times, I would consider it a very light hearted show. Because when I think of The Doctor I think of joy and wonder. I think about his laugh and his fascination with anything new he discovers. You could call his attitude to the universe almost childlike, with the biggest questions and thoughts raised not at how cruel the world is but at how wonderful it can be.
Another piece of media that manages to find a balance so wonderfully is Lord of the Rings. I don't think I have to explain anyone how beautiful those movies are, not in what you see, but what you feel. Lord of the Rings depicts a brutal war, people dieing, victories being bitter sweet. It is a journey full of hardships but also full of love. Love for your fellow soldiers, sworn brothers, for your people and land and the world in general.
"There is good in this world, Frodo."
And it is. The hope and the light are so wonderfully balanced with the dark ess and the death.
If anyone would have made the claim these movies would have been better if they were darker and the characters were more depressed due to the hardships they suffer, I would have called them a lunatic.
I've heard people say that they don't like reading YA fiction because it is too idealistic and prefer classic like Edgar Allen Poe like ... okay that can be a preference but the tone in which it is said sometimes suggested that they think it is "better" literature. And I don't like this elitism when it comes to fiction.
The cureent remake of Avatar - The last Airbender is another good example. Why did they try to make a show that is about war and genocide more mature and therefor darker, calling it something that would appeal to fans of Game of Thrones? Did they think it would be higher Art then? Or is it just because it was a cartoon which is for kids which is why it is less?
There is a similar thing going on in the shonen anime fandom. We all like to make fun of the "power or friendship" trope but people who call it cringe or unrealistic make me raise an eyebrow. The things I did for my friends that I couldn't have done without them is insane. I published a book and yeah it was a lot of hard work on my own but the only reason I could even get that far was because of the love and support of my friends. It's a real thing and if someone says it's unrealistic I just feel pity bc it just sounds like they didn't have very good friends growing up.
Light is wonderful. Joyful happy characters are inspiring. And I say that as an enjoyer of Angst. I like my stories to be dark and fucked up and pretty much every second character of mine deals with depression of some kind. But all of those dark moments couldn't work without light. If everything is depressing what should motivate my characters to fight?
There has to be good in this world. And fighting for it by overcoming the darkness is wonderful.
If there is only dark in a story I will not like it, just as much as I won't enjoy it if we sjy away from all of the darkness that could bother us. But neither of those sides speaks of maturity or quality and I wish some people would stop acting like it does.
Anyway, that was just me rambling. Find some light in your darkness, you deserve it. ✌

I know logically this shit is all fucking useless that in ten, five shit even in like six fucking months none of this will matter anymore. every single problem i have rifht now is so goddamn inconsequential and its ruining my life. I cant even fucking. idk. ask for help for it.
"i cant do homework today bc im glued to my phone reading things that make me even sadder and make me want to study less. btw these things are sososo useless and woll literally not affect my life at all a month into the future. i know exactlt what is wrong with ne and yet i continue again and again bc im a fucked up person destined to destroy my life." like who would even listen to this. my friends have got real fucking problema and i Cannot bother them with this.

whatever. this is teenage angst anyway, someone in the future (or like. rn idk) will look at it and laugh. as they should bc this is just a pathetic laughable pity party im throwing out here - not even for attention. km tired.

Hey dearest, I’m actually kinda surprised that you made it all the way to preparing your thesis judging by your reading comprehension skills, since, you know, I was clearly implying that your obsessive self spent a whole week meticulously crafting that reblog which is high-key obsessive, not that you took a lot of time to give me a reply.
And what’s even crazier is that nowhere in that poorly written essay of yours was Rhaenyra’s horrible treatment of other women mentioned, despite it being the key point of my original argument, but instead you opted for redirecting the conversation to “Well, other people also treated Jeyne poorly”! News flash, the men who wanted her title were not her allies. Rhaenyra treating Jeyne like dogshit is morally worse considering she’s backstabbing her. So show!Jeyne getting pissed at her is 100% an acceptable reaction, just as the Rosby girl who refused to offer Rhaenyra sanctuary in F&B was also absolutely in the right.
And please. You have a life? Is that why you have been going back and forth with other people in my comments for, what, 7 days now? Who are you trying to fool with this pitiful ‘holier than thou’ attitude? Sit down. The little collection of other people’s works you’re putting together at the third rate university you paid to be a part of does not concern me in the slightest. I always have to laugh when Americans (apologies if you’re not American, but I’m assuming based on the context of our communication that you are) of all people try to show off their supposed superiority by playing the education card. Good grief! I am currently finishing my Master’s in Clinical Linguistics at a European University where I was selected to be a student along with 19 other linguists among 2.000 applicants. My dissertation is a thorough research on how Alzheimer's disease damages the brain’s Broca area. Unless your thesis is a historical + sociological comparison between the Targaryen Conquest and the European colonization of North America or literally any other continent for that matter, then we’re both just two people arguing about a show with dragons here. Therefore, allow me to thank you for the book recommendations regardless of their relevance to our discussion but please, for the love of God, refrain from including most of these in your paper’s bibliography because 3/4 of the researches on your list were published 50 to 20 years ago, which again may be acceptable for leisure reading and American College projects, but where I’m from, my professors would rip me a new one if I cited a source older than 10 years in my work!
That being said, I can’t believe that I have to point this out, but need I remind you that sometimes the outcome of an author’s work may be different from what they originally intended? Do I have to bring up the movie “Buffalo ‘66”? I mean lol, you yourself stated that Martin’s admitted limitations and bias do not allow him to portray indigenous cultures sufficiently in his work. He may not have intended for the Targs or the Valyrians in general to be a commentary on white supremacy, but that’s what it is. They are white people, racist towards people of colour and they believe that their genetic differences make them superior and give them a divine right to conquer the world, coming from a more “advanced” civilization to “better” the lives of their new subjects. They may not be the only parallel to white supremacy, but they are by far the strongest one.
OP, I truly don’t think that you are a bad person and even if you were, I couldn’t say because I do not know you irl. I believe you’re just a kid that really likes the snow white magical folks and their dragons but trust me, you really do not need to rush to the defence of the creatures that are considered to be “closer to gods than men”. They’ll be fine and Martin’s pockets will not suffer from some criticism. All I’m saying is that purposely denying that the Targs/Valyrians mirror the European Colonisers, makes you seem uneducated at best and kinda racist at worst. Do with that information what you will.
I will not be replying any further as we’re clearly not going to find any common ground. You’re free to say whatever you want about me. Frankly, I do not care. Wish you all the best!
P.S. The Blacks won? After Rhaenyra was killed and her descendants refused to acknowledge her as Queen, drawing their claim to the Iron Throne from being Aegon’s only living heirs, not from being Nyra’s blood? Sure!
Book Jeyne Arryn, fresh from the latest attempt by male relatives to usurp her: "She remains our rightful queen, and mine own blood besides, an Arryn on her mother's side. In this world of men, we women must band together. The Vale and its knights shall stand with her".
vs
Show Jeyne Arryn: I don't have time to consider familial ties, solidarity from shared experiences or the wider ramifications for female succession, where the fuck is my dragon?
Rhaena: Should have read the fine print bitch.
Tyraxes: I was bigger in the book 🙁

#if it's not ur personal cup of tea i understand <3#but occasionally i come across ppl acting like it was objectively all bad & that's just not true#i like that it doesn't just end after the apocalypse starts that we get like the aftermath of that#the horrors they travel through becoming like. a tedious horrible thing bc jon has to witness them but he can't stop it despite his power#and it does get tedious at times for the listeners too#it's just tales of horrible things happening to people while but it doesn't help u understand more bc u know how this world works now#so like#the thing u measure the quality of the statements by is completely reduced to. is this an interesting or novel concept. is it written well#and of course those were always criteria before as well but with the mystery aspect solved there's no more looking for clues#for the bigger picture or looking at reoccurring characters and objects and trying to find out what it all means#so like in universe one is just kinda judging by does these people's suffering make for a good story#which is just such a beholding thing altho the actual watcher does just watch and not really judge by quality much#i'm not even saying this was authorial intent or that everyone needs to see it this way but i have been thinking about this quite a n#*bit#and like. it does make sense to me that witnessing someone trekking through a landscape of horrors telling tale after tale but not being#able to make anything better would get boring and i am thinking again about a post i saw ages ago that did pose the question of#does media have to be exciting all the way through is boredom not also an emotion that can be evoked to show something#i think some of the pacing issues in s5 might also be bc we only got 1 new ep a week so it's probably a different feel if u can binge them#still think it could be paced better at some stretches#anyways s5 did have some banger episodes and while i also do not think it was perfect or had no issues at all i like it!#also just to b very clear this is NOT about anyone i follow#this is mainly just prompted by posts i came across over the past like half year or so#where sometimes u'd have people acting like bc jonny didn't go with a plot that pleased that person specifically#he was somehow writing his story objectively wrong like i'm sorry if u came up to me and my ocs and told me#x plot point u did was harmless but not to my personal taste therefore bad and wrong#i feel like that's the one kind of feedback where a ´write it urself thenˋ response would very much be justified#like personal opinions and serious thoughtful criticism does not bother me i am not 12#what does bother me is when people dislike something personally and act like that's the only smart and valid reaction to have#to that piece of media and everyone who liked it or had different thoughts about it is wrong#anyways i liked the tma ending and i reached my tag limit jesus fucking christ didn't even know u were limited to 30

axelle judges bl shows > Star and Sky: Star In My Mind
shitty summary: After having confessed to his first crush Khabkluen and been rejected before moving to Germany, Daonuea comes back to Thailand for university and ends up staying in the same dorm as his old flame.
grade: 7,5/10
pros:
- I felt like the writing was honestly pretty solid to be able to create 8 episodes out of a very simple story that should’ve been solved in one LMAO.
- the acting was pretty fucking solid!
- the chemistry was good.
- I liked that the side characters were more developed than usual, that was very pleasant & maitee will forever be my fuckboi son :’)
cons:
- khabkluen. like legit all of my problems come from the character of khabkluen. not only is he the poster child for the perfect & boring bl love interest that I already dislike, but his unclearness & frankly lack of care for people’s feelings is the SOLE reason this mess lasts as long as it does. and listen, I do love me some good miscommunication trope & angst, BUT it should be shared between the two leads, not have only one of them be a complete asshole while the other one suffers. so yeah this is a khabkluen hate club now I guess, whoops :’)))
- as I said the story is kinda empty, but I gotta give it to them, they did still manage to make it entertaining so *shrugs*
would I rewatch it: probably not
Overall I gotta praise this show for making me have fun in front of a more basic university bl show again, and for that it deserves some credit. But also it’s still pretty unoriginal & forgettable, and the fact that one half of the ship just flat out sucks does impede on its ability to be better. Not a bad show though.

Sorry, but I don't see how making Fëanor a pathetic victim who has no agency or choice in anything but is driven to mass murder because everyone else is a terrible villain is a more nuanced take than the one where everyone makes flawed choices, stuff goes sideways despite of the best intentions and doom is both avoidable and inevitable. If we are going to use hindsight to judge the Valar, or Indis, or anyone who is not Fëanor, then I think it's only fair that the same hindsight applies to Fëanor himself.
Yeah, the Valar could have locked Morgoth up and thrown away the key. But according to Tolkien's reasoning, this would have made them no better than Morgoth himself was and might have pushed them on the road to become tyrants just like him. The Valar knew Morgoth in his beginning, the way he was before he became evil, and they are not wrong to hope that he could be reformed - as he appeared to be at the end of his imprisonment, thanks to his ability to conceal his true intentions - and become a force for the healing of Arda. The thing about justice and fairness is that sometimes it backfires, but if we refuse the possibility of change altogether, then that means accepting a dictatorship where redemption does not exist - and by this logic, Fëanor should never ever be redeemed, either. This very much goes against Tolkien's philosophy. You don't have to like it, but that's the author's view on the issue and that's the law by which the Valar govern themselves.
This is also the very beginning of the history of Arda, with Tolkien establishing the Dark Lord trope that is familiar to the reader but not in universe: the reader knows that Morgoth will not be reformed despite what the Valar believe. This is them learning what Evil really is. Also, Morgoth is not "free" upon his first release from Mandos, but remains pretty obviously on parole - which is revoked once he breaks it.
But why doesn't Fëanor get a second chance, then? I'm not sure how much Tolkien wrote about it, but it is possible Fëanor *doesn't want to* and/or is too unstable to leave Mandos. After all, Finwë has opted to stay there forever and it's possible his sons are condemned to stay, too. The Silmarils are gone forever. What reason does Fëanor have to leave Mandos? He may be too proud to face the living, many of whom may still consider him a villain. It is also possible that his instigation of the first Kinslaying left many Teleri too traumatised to return to life - what about their justice? He got hell of a lot people killed and destroyed somebody else's equivalent of Silmarils. You could also argue that his rash actions prevented the Valar from dealing with Morgoth straight away, causing uncountable suffering for the Elves and Men of Middle-earth. If that is not a crime worthy of a life in prison, I don't know what is.
Fingolfin and other half-siblings. "Apart from Fingolfin who was in Finwe's ear spreading lies about him" kinda sounds like Fingolfin just randomly and out of spite started to talk shit about Fëanor, which is untrue. What does happen is that Fëanor and Fingolfin both fall prey to the lies Morgoth is spreading and begin to believe that their half-brother is about to turn against them. That's the whole point: Morgoth is using the tension between them to create divisions among Noldor and weakening them from the inside. So again, this is blaming someone else than the guy who is actually guilty. Fëanor talks about how Noldor supposedly are in bondage in Valinor and how he will lead them into freedom, and is exiled because he draws a sword against his own kin. He has all the excuses he needs to make true of his words but interestingly, he spends twelve more years at Formenos, not doing a thing in order to leave Valinor. That the Valar thought Indis' children "were worth more than Fëanor and Míriel" is again an assumption.
Calling Indis "creepy" for not moving on is a rather ungenerous reading of her situation. Creepy would be if she stalked and harassed Finwë, but we only have proof of her keeping her feelings to herself until Finwë himself asserts his availability. That she had previously resigned to being alone is probably what makes this sudden and unexpected chance so hard to refuse. Let's not act like developing feelings for someone who is already in a relationship is something anyone *wants* and it certainly is not anything you can just choose to get over with the snap of your fingers. Yeah, it might be better for her to move on, but if Fëanor gets to have complicated feelings, why doesn't Indis? Why doesn't Finwë? Moreover, like I said previously, Indis' moving on or refusing Finwë would not change the situation. As long as Finwë himself wants to remarry and have more children, the problem of Míriel's absence doesn't go away. Why is Míriel deserving of understanding but Indis is not, even though both of them choose the option that causes pain to Fëanor? If we are just as ungenerous with Míriel, then what about her abandoning a husband and young son who needed her? And abandons them again when she is made aware that Finwë will remarry otherwise? Would Fëanor really forgive and get over that if he is so fragile and vindictive? Once again, we come to the problem of hindsight. We the readers know that Míriel eventually recovers enough to want to live again (which incidentally happens when Fëanor ceases to live), but the characters in the story do not know this at the time she is asked whether she would return. Mandos even warns her about the possibility she will eventually change her mind, but she doesn't budge. Should the Valar then disregard her when she asserts her will and states that she does not wish to return - and leave Finwë, who is still living, seething and possibly embittered because he is forever beholden to someone who refuses to even be with him or offer any hope that she will eventually return? Like I'm not saying that Finwë's desire to remarry is right in itself or that it's not a traumatic event for Fëanor, but it is understandable and if we are going to cut Fëanor slack for all the evil he caused, then it's fair that other characters are also treated with some grace.
Yes, the Silm does say that Finwë was more dear to Fëanor in the end. I am only stating that despite this, his Oath is all about the Silmarils, not about getting justice for Finwë. Vengeance may be what tips him over but it doesn't seem to be what keeps him going afterwards.
The granting Finwë's plea is required for the rest of the story. When you only have bad or complicated choices, you try to find the least bad option. We can't know what would have been the impact of Fëanor having his mother and if she eventually would have returned or if he would even accept the mother who left him; what we do know that Morgoth was coming out sooner or later, and in the absence of sibling rivalry he would probably have used Finwë's discontent in not having the family he wanted, perhaps turning father and son against one another. Would Míriel even be back at that point and if she were, could she have kept the peace? Would Finwë have turned against her for not wanting more children? Or would Fëanor have lost his father anyway, and become just as destructive in the end? It's interesting to think about, but unknowable. Also, reducing Eärendil into a guy flying with a stolen Silmaril is a bit much and it certainly is a serious misrepresentation of his role in the legendarium.
The Sun and the Moon were made only after it became clear that the Trees could not be restored; to treat their death so flippantly misses a lot of the depth of the story, the meaning the Trees had for the world and the people inhabiting it, and why the characters act like they do. It also undermines the importance of Fëanor's choice of whether he will let the Silmarils be used or not. In fact, you could argue that the Trees were never going to be restored anyway and the real choice was about Fëanor's own soul and freeing himself from the Silmarils. Looking at the timeline, it becomes clear that by the time the Valar ask if Fëanor would give the jewels for healing the Trees, Morgoth has already taken the Silmarils and carried them beyond retrieving. Even if the Valar took and left to deal with him immediately, it's doubtful they could get the Silmarils back in time to heal the Trees. Tolkien even writes that had Fëanor agreed to give them up, his actions would have been different afterwards - implying he had a chance to save himself but would not.
It's thanks to his life in Valinor and the teaching of Valar that Fëanor was able to become so advanced in his craft. He was treated with mercy when he drew a blade against his own kin. He was honoured as the mightiest of the Elves and his corruption by Morgoth was grieved as one of the worst things that Morgoth ever did. It is clearly stated that without Morgoth's influence, the deeds of wonder Fëanor might have achieved are something few can even imagine. What kind of help do you think Fëanor should have got beyond what he already received? How are his half-siblings more favoured? Why is Indis more to blame than Finwë and why are they less deserving of understanding than Fëanor or Míriel? What basis is there for the claim that the Valar hate Fëanor? Are we even reading the same book? A peculiar thing about Tolkien is that he gets criticised for his characters being either completely good or completely evil: here in the Silmarillion we have proof of the immense depth and complexity he was able to give in a text that describes events on a very general level and has little in the way of long dialogue, so it's a pity when fandom ignores all that nuance in the favour of very black and white reading where you're either a hero or a villain and leaving no space for the possibility that people can mean well but their actions can still end in tragedy.
I don’t understand people who demonize Feanor pre 1st Kinslaying because genuinely what was he supposed to do?
How is he wrong for despising Indis who was creepily obsessed with his father even before his mother died and took her first chance to throw herself at his grieving father given the opportunity?
How is he wrong for not loving his half siblings who are a permanent reminder of his father & the Valar betraying his mother & leaving her to die?
How is he in the wrong for not giving up the Silmarills?
How is he wrong for wanting revenge for his murdered father when the actual villains are the Valar who doomed him, his kin, & his people for…. seeking justice for their king?
The Valar had the power to help this severely traumatized, depressed, & mentally ill person and guide him to be less destructive.
The chose not to. Every action between Feanor & the Valar are them actively making his life worse and then Manwe has the audacity to cry over him as if he couldn’t have prevented this tragedy.
While I think Olwe & the Teleri should have been willing to teach the Noldor to build ships at least, the 1st Kinslaying is obviously still unjustified since Feanor did have a way to middle earth without killing (the Helcaraxe), but before that everyone else is being a bigger asshole than Feanor and pushing him to his inevitable breaking point.

Sonny was watching TV with Amanda when his phone went off. He paused the movie and answered the phone:
“Barba it’s kinda late--”
“What's wrong with your cousin?” he flatly said.
“Excuse me?” Sonny asked. “What kind of question is that?”
“Just answer the question, Carisi,” Barba insisted.
“Well it's a loaded question, Barba.” Sonny replied.
“Okay then just answer me this,” Barba sighed. “Why did I come back to my apartment to find her halfway through my once full bottle of vodka and pouting on the couch. Oh, after she had gone through all of my things of course,”
“Aw shit,” Sonny muttered under his breath. “That's kind of on me, Barba,”
“One second babe,” He muttered to Amanda, while he got up and went into his kitchen.
“Babe?” Barba asked.
“It’s just Rollins,” Sonny dismissed it.
“So you have feelings for me, but you’re fucking Rollins?” He asked in a snarky tone.
“What, are you jealous or somethin’ Barba?” Sonny smirked.
“No, don’t be stupid,” Rafael rolled his eyes. “Why is it on you?” He changed the subject.
“I should have never filled her head with doubts and suspicions and then sent her back to your place; when I should have known that you would keep a full bar in your apartment,” Sonny sighed as he ran his hands through his hair.
“Well of course I would keep a stocked bar in my apartment Sonny, I entertain people and I'm a grown man,” Rafael scoffed.
“Yeah, again it's on me,” Sonny repeated.
“Okay so what is wrong with your cousin?” Rafael asked.
“I think that pretty much answers it, don't you think?” Sonny asked in a “duh” tone.
“... I see,” Rafael glanced at his bedroom door wearily.
“Where is she now? Did you send her away? Please tell me you didn't send her away,” Sonny begged.
“No I didn't send her away, she's sleeping it off in my bedroom,” He got up and walked to his bedroom door. “I didn't want to just kick her out because she was upset. I'm not that big of a dick,” He whispered as he watched you sleep. You looked so calm and peaceful, that’s the girl he remembered.
“ You know, this should probably be better explained in person,” Sonny walked back into his living room where Amanda glanced over at him. He motioned for her to get her stuff together.
“Can I come over?”
“Yeah okay, not like I have anything else to do,'' he rolled his eyes as he shut his bedroom door and walked back to his living room.
--------------.
Sonny showed up to Rafael's apartment with a loaded head and a semi heavy conscience. He knocked on the door and Rafael let him inside.
“Okay so what kind of long story is this,” Rafael asked while he poured himself a glass of scotch. He noticed Sonny giving him a weird look.
“What? It's not like she's in here now,” he rolled his eyes.
“True,” He nodded. “Do you have beer?”
“Yes, dark or light?” Rafael made a disgusted face while he asked. He couldn't stand the taste of beer but he always had it on him just in case he had barbarians over such as Sonny.
“Shiner Bock, if you have it,” Sonny requested. Rafael nodded as he went into his ‘party fridge’ and handed him one before sitting on the couch across from him.
“Alright so where do I start?” Sonny thought out loud.
“Well I guess first of all I wanted to say I don’t wanna say I told you so, but this is exactly why I didn't want you and Y/N to get involved in the first place. It had nothing to do with my feelings for you. It’s because I know that you tend to keep relationships with guys and girls chill and casual, but Y/N is a special case and special to me,”
“Yeah.. I wish you had expressed that before,” Rafael groaned.
Well what was I supposed to say in front of her, Barba? ‘Oh hey by the way, you probably shouldn't get involved with my trainwreck of a cousin? Sonny asked defensively.
“Maybe? I don’t know…” Rafael sighed as he put his head in his hands.
“Look, Rafael,” Sonny put a hand on his shoulder. “It’s not like she’s some kinda degenerate junkie,”
“Oh well, that’s great--” He started to roll his eyes.
“I’m serious Rafael!” He pounded the table.
“Okay okay, I’m sorry Sonny,” He finally used his first name, trying to be as soft with him as possible. He could see how much you meant to him, and it was really endearing. “Go ahead,”
“Alright,” Sonny sighed, ready to tell your life story. You would probably kill him later for it, but there was no hiding your...issues now, he might as well get the whole context.
“Well, first of all-- her dad died before she was born, overdose,” He began. “Then she was stuck with her junkie mother, my auntie. Who by the way at this point, nobody had heard from in years,” He took a sip of beer.
“So anyways,” He began again. “One day, she showed up at my mom’s doorstep with Y/N, and told her that she can’t take care of Y/N, or that she didn’t want to,” He sighed. “She was three years old by then, I don’t even wanna think about what happened before then,”
“Jesus…” Rafael muttered.
“I was eight years old at the time, my sisters were even younger. My mom and dad had enough on their plate with just us. So, I kinda took her under my wing,” He went on.
“We became so close, she wanted to go by “Sunny” just so she could be like me. I told her it would be confusing for the two of us, so I called her Sunshine, Sunny for short. That way if I’m calling her sunny, then obviously it’s not myself,” He chuckled. To this day, he still called you Sunshine.
“But as she grew up, she just...kinda had a rough go. She didn’t really interact with kids her own age, she was really defensive and untrusting with anybody but me. Not even my parents. And then we got the call that her mother died, and it ripped me up inside to see her body at the funeral. It was so fucked up, she was so fucked up. That’s why I-- I think something really bad happened to her when she was with her mother, Rafael. Like-- really, bad.
“Fuck..." Rafael muttered while glancing at his bedroom door. He didn't want to imagine what you had been through at such a young age. He wanted to run in his room right now and just hold you, but he kept his composure.
“So then I went off to college when she was ten years old, just about to start junior high. She begged me to stay, but I told her she had a good family and that my parents and sisters loved her as much as I did, and to stay out of trouble. But...kids are cruel. They made her harder, and harder. Without me there to be her-- I dunno, her guiding light or her-- protector, she just kinda fell into a bad crowd by the time high school rolled around,” He sighed while taking another swig of beer.
“...Right,” Rafael nodded.
“So when i came home from school my mom told me she was going to kick Sunny out. I asked her why, and she went on and on about how she had gotten in with these local girls who were like, I dunno some kinda girl gang, and they’d knock over liquor stores and then get drunk and stoned. She said she was never around anyway, unless it was to steal money out of her purse; And she just didn’t wanna deal with her anymore,”
“...But she was only fifteen at the time,” Rafael was stunned.
“Yeah, and that’s what I told her!” Sonny exclaimed. “Look Barba my mom is the salt of the earth, but like I said she had a lot on her plate and my dad wasn’t around a lot-- and she had three other daughters to watch out for,”
“Three of her OWN daughters,” Rafael clarified with a judgmental tone.
“HEY,” Sonny warned. “I know how it sounds. And maybe-- maybe you’re right, maybe that’s why she washed her hands clean of Sunny. Because she was just a by-product of her fucked up sister. But I-- I’m not gonna condemn her for it. And you sure as hell don’t get to judge her,”
“You’re right,” Rafael nodded while sipping his scotch.
“So I took Sunny in,” Sonny finished his beer as he wrapped up his story. “I took her in while I went through the police academy. I made sure she got sober, quit hangin’ out with those girls, I got her to do well in school, hell I got her to graduate high school!”
“And…?” Rafael pressed.
“...And when I started bouncing around precincts, she was finally a productive member of society so she started living on her own. She had a few jobs, but never really going anywhere. So once I got placed here in SVU and started making better money, I started helping her out with rent and her car, as long as she promised to start going to community college. Which she agreed to because she really does wanna make something of herself,” He half smiled thinking about how far you had come and how proud he was to call you his cousin now. You were so full of life with dreams and ambitions he never saw in you as a scared little kid.
“Okay so-- how does all of this lead to what happened tonight?” Rafael leaned back and crossed his arms.
“Because she’s still an addict, Barba!” Sonny tried not to yell, but didn’t understand why Rafael was still so flippant about you.
“Just because she got her life together-- I got her life together, doesn’t mean that she just got ‘better’. She’s on a daily see-saw of sobriety. I do weekly ‘drop ins’ just to check on her. It’s gotten a lot better as time goes on, and the less and less I worry about her, but--” He took a breath and looked at the floor.
“....Deep down she’s still that little girl with all of her walls and her distrust. She doesn’t have friends, I really don’t think she’s ever had a stable ‘boyfriend’ or ‘girlfriend,’ I mean she-- she doesn’t, talk to people,” He paused before looking up and into Rafael’s eyes.
“...Which is why it has been yankin' my chain tryin’ to figure out just why in God’s name she was so-- open, to you,” He finally admitted. “She’s never been that close to anybody else but me, not in her entire life,”
“Wait,” Rafael put a finger up. “So...you haven’t actually been jealous of Y/N this whole time, you’ve been jealous of me?” He half laughed.
“I mean, it’s a little of both,” He shrugged with a small smile, able to joke about his feelings now. “But I meant what I said when I first got here, I know the main thing that Y/N needs in her life right now is stability. And you-- you are not stable, in the least,”
“Oh I’m the unstable one?” Rafael raised an eyebrow.
“Relationship wise, yeah,” Sonny pointed out.
“....Fair point,” Rafael nodded as he finished off his scotch. He knew the longest relationship he had ever had was with the cute barista he saw every morning who knew how to make his coffee just right. And that relationship only took him five minutes a day to maintain.
“So…” Sonny knocked Rafael from his thoughts.
“So...what?” Rafael quirked an eyebrow.
“So, I think that--” Sonny took a deep breath, knowing you might hate him for this. But it was for the best, and it needed to be said.
“I think that if you care anything about her, or me for that matter, that you let me take her home, and forget about this whole weekend,”
“....I mean…” Rafael rubbed the back of his neck. He didn't want to let you go. Well, he didn't want to let go of the girl he had met at Forlini's. The girl who made him laugh, who he could be his true self around, the girl he might---
“Look the bottom line here Barba is that Y/N is-- a lot of work. I should know, I’ve been taking care of her for 19 years. But I don’t mind it, because I love her more than anything else in this world. Well, her and the rest of my family. But still-- I love her,” Sonny now stood up.
“And I get that you like her, but she--- she has gotten way too serious about you way too fast, and way too hard. And this?” He gestured around the room, referring to the whole night. “This ain’t even the tip of the iceberg with her, if she’s really fallen off the wagon,”
“...God dammit,” Rafael stood up and began to pace in his living room. He thought about every single second he had spent with you since he met you; you had never seemed so...broken, as Sonny was describing you.
“What I’m saying is, unless you’re ready to-- ‘deal’ with her, and everything that comes with that, please for the love of God, just walk away now,” Sonny pleaded.
“Because she won’t listen to me if I tell her to stay away from you. And if things get too ‘real’ for you, you’re just gonna freak out or-- or get bored, and throw her away. Her self worth will drop to shit. And if that happens, I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to get her back from that,”
“I would never just throw her away, Carisi,” Rafael rolled his eyes.
“You can’t say that, Barba,” Sonny debated.
“And why the hell not?” Rafael narrowed his eyes.
“Because you’ve never NOT just ‘thrown away’ someone,” He chuckled. “That front door might as well be a garbage chute,”
“You son of a--” Rafael started to yell at him but Sonny cut him off.
“Tell me I’m wrong, Barba. Look me in the eyes and tell me I have no idea what I’m talking about, and I’ll leave here and let you deal with her the way you want to,” Sonny looked at him pensively. Rafael looked at him for several seconds, then softened his glare into a sad concession.
“....Take her,” He muttered softly while looking at the ground.
“Thank you,” Sonny mumbled softly as he turned to go retrieve your passed out self from the bedroom. However, he was instead met with the most unsettling sight:
You were standing in the doorway of the room, glaring at the two of them.
“...H-Hey, Sunshine--” Sonny tried to appease you with an awkward smile.
“Don’t,” You growled, stomping into the living room and began packing your bag.
“Y/N, what are you--” Rafael went to put a hand on your bag but you snatched it away before you shot fire out of your eyes into his gaze.
“Oh, I’m sorry, did I misunderstand what you just said?” You barked at him with tears in your eyes. “Because I’m pretty damn sure I heard ‘take her’. You know like I’m some sort of defective Amazon package,”
“That’s not what I meant---” He softly spoke, the guilt of his words being heard by you was quickly eating him alive.
“No I know what you meant, Rafael,” You zipped your duffel shut angrily.
“I heard the whole god damn spiel. Which, by the way, thank you so much for detailing my entire little sob story, cousin,” You glared at Sonny as you started walking towards the front door, shoulder checking him.
“But neither of you have to worry about anything anymore, okay? You’re released from your ‘duties’. This trainwreck is leaving the station, so you can relax,” You looked at the both of them with pain in your eyes, tears cracking your words.
“Sunshine--” Sonny started after you.
“DON’T,” You glared at him while putting a finger up. “Don’t ever call me that again,”
“At least let me drive you home--”
“No,” You shook your head. “And you know what, cuz? I didn’t realize I was such a financial burden, so you know what? Cut me off. Because I’d rather be homeless again than take any more money from you,”
“What did I do?!” Sonny was now angry. “All I did was come over and try to protect you, that’s it!”
“I don’t need your protection!” You screamed. “This whole time...this whole time, I thought you were proud of me. That you trusted me,”
“I do trust you--”
“You don’t!” You stomped your foot while tears streamed down your face. “Y-You think that if . one single thing like a boy not liking me is gonna set me off, like I’m some kind of bomb you’ve kept from detonating for years. My life is not your responsibility anymore, Sonny! I don’t think it ever was!”
“Well who’s else was it gonna be?!”
“NOBODY’S!!!!” You finally dropped your duffel bag and kicked the wall, leaning your head against it. You were strangely quiet for a long pause before you spoke again in an eerily calm voice.
“...Do you know why my mother “dropped me off’ with your mother?”
“Because she couldn’t take care of you--”
“No I heard what you said,” You sniffled with a sad smile. “Because she didn’t want to,”
“Sunshine--”
“But leaving me with your mother, was her plan b,” You cut him off, still looking at the floor.
“What do you mean?” Sonny asked cautiously while looking at Rafael who had a terrified look in his eyes.
“She didn’t want to ‘burden’ her sister with me, but she had to when I wouldn’t die,”
“...W-What?” Rafael almost choked on the words in disbelief.
“She tried to smother me with a pillow, but I wouldn’t die. I kept screaming and crying, and I guess it touched her strand of humanity, so she stopped,” You rolled your eyes with the same sad smile.
That memory was forever imprinted in your brain. The terror of being woken up in blackness, unable to breathe. The smell of the cigarette smoke covered pillow being shoved into your throat and nostrils. Your mother crying and telling you it would be over soon, just to let go. And finally her sad, pathetic whimpers and sobs when she finally lifted the pillow from you, disappointed in herself that she couldn’t do one good thing in her life. That now she was going to have to pass you, her problem, onto her sister.
“Y/N, baby girl--” Sonny stepped towards you again.
“I wasn’t supposed to be raised by anybody, Sonny. I’m not even supposed to be alive!” You stomped your foot again while tears continued to flow.
“That’s not true!” He ran over and grabbed you in a hug. “You are not a burden,”
“Really?” You laughed sarcastically into his shoulder as you pushed him away from the hug. “You just said your mom didn’t even want to deal with me. Nobody did,”
“I did!” He argued. “I do,”
“Yeah well, maybe I’m my mother’s daughter. I don’t wanna be your burden,” You picked up the duffel and opened the door.
“Okay well you have no choice in that so you’re gonna have to let that go,” Sonny grabbed your hand before you could walk away.
“Fine,” You finally conceded with a blank expression.
“Guess I’ll just have to let a lot of things go, won’t I?” Your voice cracked as you looked at Rafael one more time with the saddest eyes.
He stared back at you with a stone cold face. He wanted so badly just to go and hold you in his arms, telling you how you didn’t deserve any of what happened to you, and that you deserved everything good and all the love in the world. But Sonny’s pleas were still in his head.
He didn’t know if he wanted the responsibility of your entire self worth and happiness, let alone your sobriety on his shoulders. He didn’t even like to get close to clients with that many issues, the pressure was too much. So instead he just stood there, trying not to show how much this was killing him, sending you away like this.
“Come on Sunshine, just-- let’s go, okay?” Sonny pleaded with you softly, pulling at your hand. You didn’t answer, you just nodded and started walking down the hallway towards the elevator, leaving Sonny at the door.
“...Thank you, Barba,” He mumbled softly, nodding at Rafael. Rafael barely nodded back before Sonny closed the door.
As soon as it was closed, Rafael dropped on his knees and began to cry. He didn’t know why exactly, was he crying because he felt horrible for all the shit you had gone through? Was he angry at himself for not being able to get over his own bullshit to actually open up and care about someone for more than a week? Was he really that big of a hypocrite, showing empathy to clients all the time but shutting out the one person he felt he might-- he couldn’t even think it. He wouldn’t let himself think it. He just composed himself and poured another scotch while turning on the TV, trying to forget what just happened.
His NETFLIX menu popped up; it asked him if he wanted to continue watching Bojack Horseman. He closed his eyes and muttered obscenities in spanish while memories of the night before flooded his brain, making him cry angry tears once more. He finally decided just to go to bed, maybe his brain would release him from torture if he could turn it off.
He wasn’t sure he could ever turn it off now.

I started typing this in the tags of this post, and it got too long, and then I was going to just reblog the post with this as an addition but that got too long too, and I've been meaning to make a post addressing free will vs. predestination since the premiere anyway, so - here we go. Spoilers, obviously.
Cut for length and spoilers. Please blacklist #loki tv series spoilers, #loki series spoilers, and #loki spoilers.
This is kinda rough and I'm not sure it actually makes any sense but I'm posting it anyway.
I realize that the post is a joke, obviously (and it is hilarious) but I started thinking about the implications and couldn't stop because it's honestly a goldmine of existential reflection and an inevitable crisis or three.
Let's look at a scenario.
Say you're late to work for reasons totally beyond your control: your neighbor stopped you to ask a question on your way out the door; you swung through the drive-thru for a quick coffee but the person in front of you is ordering a full continental breakfast ffs (this happened to me this morning); there was an explosion and then the Winter Soldier randomly dropped from the sky and landed on the hood of your car. Whatever. Shit happens.
So you're late, but on this particular day, your lateness somehow has consequences that lead to and create a nexus event and the next thing you know, you're being arrested, tried, convicted of time crimes and ultimately (a version of you is) erased from existence.
And this is if it's not even your fault you're late.
Now say that you're late and it is your fault. You took a new route on a whim and drove a little more slowly because you passed a particularly pretty meadow; you hit the brakes at a yellow light instead of speeding through bc you wanted the quick chance to check your email; you sat in your car for a few extra minutes in the parking lot, because maybe your job sucks and you really needed those extra minutes today to psyche yourself up into getting out of the car and going inside and clocking in.
These little choices are you exercising your free will. Because to me, free will is all or nothing - it doesn't just apply to the big decisions.
On the other hand, predestination means that regardless of the choices you make or if it's a big decision or not, everything you do is ultimately going to lead you to a set point or position or place (your destiny).
And I can kind of look at it like a GPS - that is, there are a number of "insignificant" choices you could make and they will still lead you to where you're predestined to go. Like how a GPS will reconfigure your route if you miss your exit on the highway. It doesn't matter if you took Route A or Route B, you're still going to end up at your destination.
But say sometimes the route does matter. Say that there are certain scenarios in which there's only one road (for example, 14 million losses vs 1 win) and you can only get on it by following a specific series of events and what determines the ultimate outcome is whether or not you're late to work that day.
If you decide to wait those extra five minutes in the parking lot, that means that you weren't in your cubicle at 9:03 when Stanley from Accounting wandered by with his giant stack of papers, and when Mary Sue said hello to him, he got distracted and tried to wave and ended up dropping those papers. Had you been at your cubicle, you'd have swooped down to help him but since you weren't there, Stanley is crouched on the floor alone and doesn't notice Joe coming at him with a paper trolley so when he stands up, he and Joe collide and Stanley loses his balance and goes face-first toward the trolley and breaks his nose when he hits the metal handle on his way down.
Now Stanley has to go to the hospital to get his nose set because you wanted to sit in your car and spend five extra minutes hating your life that morning.
If the sacred timeline says that Stanley is supposed to be in that ER at that specific time on that specific day, and no other set of circumstances would get him there, because this will ultimately take Stanley down the road to whatever greater journey he's supposed to go on, then it has to happen. But say you exercise your free will and decide not to wait those five minutes, because the free will applies to every choice you make, even the tiny, insignificant ones. You chose to put on your big person pants and took a deep breath and just head inside - and because you chose to do that and because you were at your cubicle to help Stanley with his papers, Stanley never ends up in the ER and the timeline that's supposed to happen is suddenly at risk and the TVA has to get involved (I assume).
So having free will introduces way, way too many variables into a fixed timeline to ever keep track, because you're taking these tiny, seemingly insignificant choices that people are making every minute of every day, and you're multiplying them by trillions of sentient beings in the universe, and you're saying the fate of the timeline and reality itself depends on all of these beings either always making the choice they're supposed to make or constantly sending the TVA out whenever they don't.
It's fair to conclude, then, that both free will and a fixed, single timeline can't exist at the same time. Either you adhere to the fixed timeline and everyone does exactly what they're supposed to do every second of every minute of existence, or you have free will and autonomy over all of your decisions, no matter how big or small, and those decisions can result in a number of outcomes, ultimately leading you to one of several possible destinations.
Case in point: Tony didn't have to snap his fingers in Endgame. He chose to. Had he not, Thanos would have won. It doesn't matter if there was one way to victory or 14 million ways to failure; the timeline could ultimately only go one of two ways and the choice Tony willingly made determined that Thanos lost. It wasn't predetermined because if Tony had not chosen to snap his fingers, the timeline would have gone the other way.
My personal belief - and this isn't necessarily for the MCU, but in general - is that we do possess free will and the future is ever shifting and changing because nothing is written in stone. It holds up against most, if not all, of the world's belief systems. For example, if you believe that people have guardian angels, the rule is generally that your guardian angels can help you but you have to ask them; they can't decide to intervene without your permission because to do so would infringe upon your free will.
Similarly, you can go on etsy and pay $5 for a funsies psychic reading or pay a lot more money for an in-depth, specific tarot reading and both will tell you that the outcomes may change depending on the paths you take, and that their ultimate advice is for you to keep your focus on your goals and your own self so that you can be subconsciously manifesting the best possible future for yourself. (Not that I know this from experience. It was one time. It was a few times. My point stands, and also stop judging me.)
To get back to the MCU, though - if you determine that both a single, fixed timeline and free will can't simultaneously exist, and your ultimate purpose is upholding said timeline and not letting anyone fuck it up, lest it break off into lots of different branches, then it poses a pretty serious moral and/or ethical question of - who decides what choices we make and what paths we're destined for? The time lizards? Who gave them that authority? Did anyone, or did they just manifest themselves into existence one day, create the universe, and then decide all of the rules (and, if so, where does that leave the norns and the gods and other super powerful beings who are generally thought to be in charge of things)?
If free will doesn't exist and everyone is acting based on what has been predetermined for them by some higher being (or, in this case, time lizards), it takes away our autonomy, and if everything we do and every single tiny step we take is decided for us, what makes us any different than cogs in a machine just following orders? What separates us from robots?
Speaking of robots, it's interesting to me that the TVA's screening process (if you can call it that) has a failsafe against robots specifically. Any robot that might come through is destroyed immediately and in this case, “not a robot” is defined, more or less, as a sentient being that possesses a soul. What does the TVA have against robots if their ultimate goal is ensuring that the robotic machinations of the time lizards are consistently carried out to protect the sacred timeline?
A soul makes you human; the energy of the soul is what you, at the core, are. It can be assumed that having a soul also means that you have some sort of moral and ethical code by which you live your life but, if you don't also have free will, then what is the point of possessing a soul and a moral and ethical code?
Loki is a villain and he's told by Mobius, the TVA, Odin, and pretty much everyone who ever meets him that the only thing he's good for - the only reason he exists - is to cause pain and suffering and death. This has been predetermined for him; this is not his fault and he did not choose it. And every single choice he makes has either already been destined as the choice he was supposed to make, or will be pruned so it won't grow into the wrong timeline. Ultimately Loki can change neither his final destination, nor the purpose and meaning of his existence.
Which leads me to the theory that the several Loki variants that the TVA keeps coming across are the result of Loki consistently resisting against his predetermined path; he's trying to find the timeline where he is able to latch onto and keep his own free will in defiance of the timekeepers but, so far, he hasn't been successful. This could segue into why the current Variant is now going scorched earth and just obliterating the main timeline completely - because if there is no sacred timeline, there's nothing dictating who or what Loki can be, and free will is regained. If there's a multiverse that branches and branches beyond anyone's control, then there must be a branch in there, somewhere, where Loki can exist on his own terms and decide how his own story goes.
This also might be a theory for why Loki is already setting his sights on taking over the TVA (assuming that's not just something he told the variant for reasons). But my original point in delving into all this is to ask: if Loki is predestined to always be a villain whose story plays out exactly the same way because that's what's supposed to happen, then how can anyone ever hold his misdeeds against him? He's literally just existing as the timekeepers decided he would exist and everyone is blaming him for it.
And this leads me to ask, as well, if one's soul is generally good, and one possesses more good traits than bad, what is the logic in making them exist only for pain and destruction? If it's for a greater good, then it stands to reason Loki is not the only one predestined for misery, and what greater good could come from all that suffering?
Conclusion: the existence of the TVA as an organization means that there is one fixed, sacred timeline but the existence of said timeline is immoral and unethical because it means no one actually has any free will at all in the MCU. The very notion of heroes and villains is pointless because it has nothing to do with your own qualities or morality, it's literally the luck of the draw. In order to have free will, the sacred timeline has to be destroyed, and so my prediction is that the Big Bad of the Loki series is not the TVA and not the time keepers but the actual timeline itself, and the entire fate of the MCU rests on whether or not Loki can ultimately succeed.
Also, don't be late for work.

My Review of Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni SOTSU
Prior thoughts here…
Look, I love Higurashi. I really do! But I can’t be the only person to hate Satoko Hojo when it was discovered what she did in Gou. That really tainted Higurashi Gou, which was doing okay up until that point. Now, does Satoko redeem herself and realize that she was petty, vindictive, misunderstood everything, and is absolutely in the wrong? Judging by what some of the seiyuus said after recording and reading the script, they felt weird and off by the material.
That’s very troubling!
Moving on! Our main story tonight is about Hinamizawa. A rural Japanese town with a rich history in religion, colorful characters which you can tell from the hair, and annoying, screeching cicadas! We see you, you dirt-bath twats!
Sorry, I really wanted to do a John Oliver moment here.
PREVIOUSLY ON HIGURASHI GOU: Rika’s suffering has gotten exponentially worse than in previous seasons. We’ve seen Rika die continuously and worse than what was shown to us in the original series. Not only that, but she was murdered by people who never caused Rika any harm prior including Akasaka, Akane Sonozaki, Chief Kimiyoshi, Ooishi, and even Keiichi. Who is to blame for this? That would be Rika’s best friend Satoko Hojo. Satoko was willing to make Rika happy by going along with Rika’s endeavors of leaving Hinamizawa and attending a prestigious all-girls school. And while Rika adjusted to her surroundings perfectly, Satoko was slipping through the cracks. Rika offered a helping hand to her, but Satoko was so stubborn and jumped to every wrong conclusion, thinking Rika abandoned her.
It wasn’t until the girls took a trip back to Hinamizawa that Satoko’s world changed. In the altar of Oyashiro, she is transferred to the limbo and comes face-to-face with a deity much like Hanyuu. We’re pretty sure her name is Featherine…but for some reason Satoko called her Eua so I guess that’s her name in the Higurashi universe. Eua gives Satoko the special power to control her fate and she literally abuses it at every turn to force Rika to stay in Higurashi and change every outcome from every timeline Rika’s been through.
SOTSU: I think we were all thinking throughout the Gou series, we haven’t watched enough episodes of Rena losing her shit and go on a murderous rampage. Or for that matter, we haven’t even watched Mion strap someone down and take off their fingernails! So remember episodes 1-4 of Gou? Apparently the first 3 episodes of Sotsu show how Rena lost her mind in that timeline, the next three episodes followed Mion’s descent into madness, and we follow that up with Teppei living with Satoko. Gou only told part of the story. Satoko drugged all of these people in order to screw with Rika. I mean no one needed to see Rika get strangled and thrown in the outdoor toilet. Yet we got that scene. Thanks series, thanks a fuck-ton for that.
And yes, we indeed got the fingernail scene.
But don’t get it twisted with what I just said. Only some of these scenes are new compared to what was given and shown in Gou. To be mean about it, Sotsu is on par with Endless Eight from Haruhi Suzumiya. But give Endless Eight some credit. It was only eight episodes. We’ve got 13 episodes of almost the same exact crap we watched six months prior in the previous season.
MORE REDEMPTION: Last arc, we kinda got redemptions of several characters near the end from Miyo Takano and Teppei Hojo. I obviously didn’t believe the latter. Teppei was scum in the original series. Not a redeeming thing about him and everyone knows it. This character however was runner-up as scum of Hinamizawa.
Rina Mamiya or Ritsuko dated Rena’s father and it set Rena off. In the original series, Rena’s father would spend butt-loads of money on Ritsuko. And the original plan was a bit of a badger game. The man would spend amounts of cash on Ritsuko until eventually her real man comes in and yells at the other man for messing with his girl until he pays the real man off to leave him alone. And that system was put out by Ritsuko and Teppei.
Sotsu worked a little differently. Due to Teppei’s…redemp…redemp…Nope, can’t do it! Teppei’s out of the picture and now Ritsuko is working in a gentleman’s club. Rena’s father goes there constantly and showers Ritsuko with gifts. Ritsuko gets concerned. That never happens. We see a shred of humanity with her. She mentions that she was raised by a single parent and came to Rena to convince her father to stop doing this. And if Satoko didn’t drug Rena, it would have been awesome to see this happen. I want Rena to be happy.
I WAS AFRAID OF THIS: As this season progressed, I noticed these previous arcs that we’re watching are coming from Satoko’s point of view. Unfortunately, it’s just making myself and many others lose every respect we once had for Satoko. She goes through different timelines drugging people and fucking with Rika. So once we got to the third arc, I was afraid of seeing something with my own eyes. Satoko faking abuse! She is not being abused by her uncle. She is not being abused by the townspeople nor her classmates. She is faking abuse to both piss off her uncle and worry her friends. That is some sick-ass shit!
ENDING: Up to this point, we watched Satoko’s hand in ruining Rika’s perfect timeline. During Higurashi Gou, we weren’t sure who the true culprit was. Higurashi Sotsu came in and had Satoko drug Rena, Mion, Detective Ooishi, Akasaka, Akane Sonozaki, Chief Kimiyoshi, and even Keiichi. Not just that, but lie and manipulate people, particularly in the second-to-last arc of Sotsu.
Many of us (myself included) were a little disappointed in the carryout of the story. Sotsu was essentially Gou, but from Satoko’s angle. In every other Higurashi story prior to this train-wreck, the timelines felt like they were their own story and not recycled garbage. It wasn’t until the episodes with Hanyuu leaving Rika that we got a few questions answered. The sword Hanyuu left Rika was in Oyashiro’s statue. It’s just that Satoko got to it first and a baby piece broke off, leaving Rika unsatisfied. Also, Rika’s flashbacks are giving her some clues. Or could it be Hanyuu leaving Rika the clues?
Hanyuu went to investigate these messed up timelines and sure enough, she encountered Eua. But Eua is clearly more powerful and has an upper-hand in her own realm so she does overpower Hanyuu. Hanyuu learns the truth that Satoko was behind everything and that Eua has been manipulating her along the way. She also watches Rika fall into despair and give up her future goal of one day leaving Hinamizawa. Instead, Rika is going to stay in Hinamizawa and Satoko gets what she wants. Never count out luck when Hanyuu is involved! Rika has been getting flashbacks of the timeline when Ooishi went on the rampage. And sure enough, one of those flashes were of Satoko shooting Rika in the face to make sure she was dead.
Rika knows Satoko is the reason behind the influx of deaths in these timelines. What now?
Satoko kills Rika. REPEATEDLY! And it just goes from timeline to timeline, from Hinamizawa to St. Lucia, from the Cotton Drifting Festival to the classroom! Now, I will admit some of these fights were funny to watch. In one of those times, Satoko kills Rika and in the distance, Rena, Mion, and Keiichi are not noticing a damn thing. That was funny! And then you have Rika and Satoko killing each other over the fact that Satoko doesn’t want to study.
This episode-long slug-fest was like Peter Griffin vs. Ernie the Giant Chicken. It went on far too long. And it was worse because you know Satoko is in the wrong.
Yes, I am on Team Rika in this fight. Rika offered a hand to Satoko. Satoko refused help. Rika didn’t snitch on Satoko. Rika wants to go as far as humanly possible away from the town that caused her so much pain. If you spent hundreds of years in the same year, the same month, in the same town, suffering a myriad of ways to die, wouldn’t you want to take the next bus the fuck outta there? Satoko took a petty fight into a full-blown, time-leaping, friend-killing, witches and Gods holy war! Oh yeah, let’s look at Eua and Hanyuu. Eua seems to have the upper-hand here, but Hanyuu and Rika always have miracles on their side. It might be a 1 out of 1000 shot for them, but they have miracles coming out of their asses. Thankfully, Hanyuu was able to defeat Eua and the girls stopped their fight. After some wise words from Rena, the girls came to a sensible conclusion of giving each other some space to keep being friends.
Rika’s going to St. Lucia and Satoko isn’t. They will remain frenemies, I guess? Satoko will stalk Rika if she’s away too long or doesn’t phone home as often. Geez bitch, clingy much? And we end the series with the classic Higurashi song “You” as we see all the other minor characters we loved from the series. Ooishi is visiting his friend’s grave, Takano (not pregnant) and Tomitake coming back to town, Ritsuko’s alive, Teppei’s alive (and not a horrible human being anymore), everyone’s alive, and Satoko doesn’t learn her lesson. The bitch gets what she wants. This series is shit.
And what’s this? Of all the arcs for Satoshi to wake up and have Hinamizawa Syndrome clear up, it had to be this one! I can’t even begin to describe my disgust here. But I couldn’t because the scene was so fast, I had to contain myself.
OH MY FUCKING GOD! I FUCKING HATED THIS ARC! I HATED THIS ANIME! I HATED, HATED, HATED THIS ANIME! HATED IT! HATED EVERY SIMPERING STUPID VACANT AUDIENCE-INSULTING MOMENT OF IT!
Sorry to get all Roger Ebert on you guys but it had to be said.
Higurashi once had an art to telling the story with repeating and similar timelines. It made it feel like you’re not sitting through 13 episodes of something you already sat through with only a few minutes of new footage. Sotsu went the route of Haruhi Suzumiya’s Endless Eight. You fail, dude! That’s a fail! Each episode up until episode 13 or 14 is primarily the same shit we saw in Gou. With the exception of a few scenes like with Ritsuko, Kimiyoshi’s horrible torture, and evil Satoko moments, it was a shot-for-shot repeat from last season. And it was especially slow and repetitive during the Satoko abuse arc.
I know I went off in the last review about how much Satoko sucks, but she really fucking sucks here. Satoko wasn’t like this at all in the original series. She loved all of her friends, not just Rika. She loved her nii-nii! She cared for Keiichi and sees him as a pro-temp nii-nii. And she cared for Shion, Mion, and Rena. This season with Satoko all I see is manipulation of every character that cared for her, even the minor ones and only care about Rika. Satoshi wasn’t even a passing thought. In fact, not once did Satoko feel the need to talk about her nii-nii except when it was to manipulate Keiichi. She fakes everything! She faked her nii-nii talk with Keiichi, doesn’t give a crap about Shion’s love for her, faked being bullied and lying about it to a numerous amount of people, all to fuck with Rika!
Now then, this really upset a lot of fans. I mean, a fuck-ton a lot of fans. I’m just disappointed that this exists and will spend the next several anime seasons trying to forget about everything I watched here. Eventually, I’ll move the fuck on and pretend this didn’t exist and continue to rewatch the Studio Deen version and reading the manga. But some others aren’t so lucky. This really struck a nerve to those who have been with the franchise since day one. I have a friend that’s so depressed by Gou and Sotsu’s existence, I’ve never seen her this wrecked before!
I cannot give this a good review. I cannot recommend this. It is just unwatchable. Unfathomable! Inconceivable! Unbelievable! In fact, here’s a list of Higurashi stuff I would highly recommend watching or reading before you should ever touch Higurashi Gou and Sotsu.
Higurashi Visual Novel Higurashi Manga Any Higurashi video game Higurashi Season 1 & 2 (Studio Deen version) Higurashi Rei episodes 2-4 Higurashi Outbreak Higurashi Cat-Killing Special Higurashi Rei episodes 1 & 5 The live action TV series from 2016 Umineko no Naku Koro Ni (anime) A 10 hour loop of Keiichi’s sea bear dangling Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni Kira That one episode of Last Period featuring the cast of Higurashi Live Action Higurashi from 2008 Staring at a still-shot of Detective Ooishi wearing a thong from Higurashi Rei episode 1 for five minutes Scratching your neck until you see maggots come out
THEN…no, I don’t think you’re ready to watch Higurashi Gou and Sotsu.
Avoid it like the plague.
What a waste of Studio Passione’s semi-decent animation!

Hello! What’s the personalities of the main characters you write for?
Also I think your blog is pretty cute so far ❤️
Omigosh! Hi! I could do that! I uh- have only written for three of these characters so far, so I’m not entirely sure yet myself actually, but I’ll try my best :)
Sans and Papyrus: The good ol’ classics! I write them the way that most other people do. Sans is a laid-back ‘lazy-bones’ who cares about his loved ones, Papyrus is a very optimistic skeleton who would do almost anything to make his friends and family happy <3
Underswap Sans: Blueberry! I love this tiny skeleton, he’s adorable and tiny and an amazing person. Most people depict him as very childish and naive, and while he usually is, he can also be mature if he needs to be. He loves his brother, and if you befriend him then he will also love you! This little guy is just full of love (and energy).
Underswap Papyrus: probably one of the nicest and understanding skeletons ever, Orange (named after the fruit, not the colour), not too unlike his brother, is filled with nothing but love for his family. He’s a great listener and he has a lot of great advice. I just really like him :)
Underfell Sans: Underfell Sans, or as I like to call him, Cherry, is a skeleton who has a lot of personal problems. He’s very reserved and very private with his feelings. This, however, does not mean that he doesn’t care about his family and friends, it just means that you have to be a little more patient with him to see his soft side. If you stick with him for long enough he will eventually open up to you, and he can be the sweetest little skeleton once he does.
Underfell Papyrus: I like to call this edgy skeleton, well, Edge! Edge can come across as very brash, even when he considers you close.. He likes to act very tough and like he doesn’t care too much, but unfortunately for him he suffers from something that almost all of the Papyruses do, accidental adorableness. He gets very flustered very easily, and it’s honestly very cute. Edge is a papyrus, so he can’t really be evil, even if he tried.
Horrortale Sans: Ah! One of my favourites!! I call this skeleton Slash! I have two ways of writing Slash, one that is more suited for fluffy stuff and one where he is a little more deranged. Personally, I like to write the fluffy version of him more. Slash is a very very big skeleton, he has the bestest hugs you will ever receive. This skeleton is the biggest cuddle bug in the world, but you need to be very close with him to see that side. He doesn’t really speak too much at all, but he’s somehow still really good in conversations. Like most other monsters in the Horror universe, Slash may show some more ‘animalistic’ behaviours, such has purring or growling. He can get rather possessive of those he are close with, but that’s because of the environment he comes from.
Horrortale Papyrus: I actually haven’t come up with a nickname for this papyrus yet, so I’ll have to figure it out. This super-tall skeleton has a scary look, but is one of the sweeter papyruses! He isn’t actually that different from Classic!Papyrus, so I don’t have too much to add. On the surface I would definitely see Horrortale Papyrus and Slash as vegetarian, or even vegan, like most other monsters from this universe. While he acts a lot like Classic pap, he can still be a little creepy sometimes, he just haven’t adjusted fully yet.
Mafiatale sans: One of my personal favourites, Judge! I haven’t really figured this AU out yet. While Judge is a lot like classic Sans in the way he acts, Judge isn’t against violence (since he’s...y’know...in the mafia). Again, I haven’t had time to figure out exactly how he acts or how to write for him, but I’m really excited to do so! So please request something for the Mafiatale AU!
Mafiatale Papyrus: I call this papyrus Snipe, like most of the fandom! I’d say he’s a lot like classic Papyrus, but much more mature. I’m sorry, I haven’t thought these through yet!! :(
Mafiafell Sans: OOOOOOOoooOo Boy! I love this boy a lot! I don’t know why, but I do. I call him Biff :) Mafiafell is probably one of my favourite AUs, it’s like Mafiatale, but more like an actual mafia? Anyways, Biff acts like the typical Mafia almost boss, he’s rich and handsome in his own skeleton way, and he absolutely knows it. He talks almost solely in 1920s mobster slang, and is NOT afraid to use violence to get what he wants. He’s a huge buttface and can’t take a no. Biff can really be a scary dude, but I love him.
Mafiafell Papyrus: I call him King(pin). He’s probably even more scary than Biff, this skeleton is absolutely terrifying to me. Like, Biff has limits, but this dude, he will do absolutely anything to get what he wants. He’s nuts and he’s the leader for the Mafia gang, so he’s also very smart. Unlike Biff, King talks very fancy, he’s also very good at manipulating people. Over all, I don’t like him too much, but I still love him, if that makes sense.
Ahh! Thank you for sending this! Before I made this blog I kinda binge-read yours, so I appreciate it!
Now that I look at it, these aren’t really a lot of AUs...PLEASE SOMEONE SEND ME AUS IM REALLY NEW TO THIS I WANNA KNOW MORE thank you <3
#I hope this is OK! Sorry about the mafiatale bros and their lack of description#:(#mafiafell#mafiafell sans#mafiatale#horrortale#underfell#underswap#undertale imagines

Carrie (1976)-
Was this supposed to be a horror movie as I honestly ended up crying. You just sympathize so much with her and I feel so bad the entire time? Like this girl has a INSANE evangelical mother who teaches her very little about her body much less social skills, the kids at her school are pure evil and get a serious kick out of tormenting a awkward kid. When she gets one person who’s nice to her it causes her main tormentor to go Insane and blame her for all her shit behavior. LOOK WHERE THAT GOT YOU CHRIS, enjoy hell sweetie 💕.
However the movie itself , no matter how hard I sympathized with carry how much I kinda understand. I am a awkward kid, I keep my heads down in the halls and charge forward to my next class with that silent fear in the back of my mind all those people are talking about and judging me. Unfortunately in carries case that’s 100% what is happening. Back to the point- the movie is great honestly.
SO JOHN TRAVOLTA IS IN THIS MOVIE AND I DIDNT KNOW THAT? He plays a ripe dumbass with a manipulative as hell girlfriend, have I mentioned how much I detest Chris yet? She’s like every bully rolled into one and it’s - it’s like a walking talking punching bag you just want to destroy. Serious props to the actress , as she’s pretty damn good if my bloods actually boiling. Also what’s up with pride ™️ chick? She’s always in a red hat with rainbow everything - like she’s trying to sell me targets pride collection? She’s just as much of a ass with one of those point and jump laughs.
The good ones-
However Carrie does have a few good people in her life. Miss Collins is a beacon of light in this movie, she is also a brain cell. She does slap a student, but in her defense— she should have hit Chris harder (did I mention I hate her yet?) she is gym teacher energy. How she acts almost motherly to Carrie, doing all the things a mother should anyway, encourage her to find herself, look pretty/be confident and get herself out there the poor girl needs it. The scene when she takes Carrie into the bathroom to show her how truely pretty she is got me 🥺. Unfortunately she suffers because of her care for Carrie , as ultimately she takes out the one person who could have prevented the prom massacre... which unfortunately resulted in her death.
Sue, I have to give her credit. Usually I can predict things pretty well I can see things coming. She kept flip flopping my radar. Was she with Chris in the plan or genuinely wanted to give Carrie a win after seeing the error in her actions?! Sometimes I guess it takes a brutal gym work out to realize- hey my actions were pretty horrific I should probably make up for that. I was kinda surprised and please where it was revealed she wasn’t apart of the blood plan. I did think she was for a solid moment as her smile watching out... rocking... waiting... but she wasn’t. Sue actually meant good and she did survive to unfortunately have Freddy Kruger esc nightmares.
Tommy, again like sue I couldn’t tell if he was genuine or not. From the beginning you can actually tell he’s - shocker to this universe - a decent human being. Like Hess he was pushed to go to prom with Carrie but at the same time. His kindness and words were genuine , and he gave Carrie that little push to be a little more out there and discover fun. The dance scene had me crying and I wished it ended there really. Also pleased that he wasn’t apart of the plot as he was one of the many in the crowd appalled. Also did the bucket kill him? As I’m pretty sure it was the bucket it hit that man HARD.
Anyway rip these there y’all were the nice ones 😔
The themes in the film two were also extremely interesting like how Carrie interacted with the highly abusive “I’ll hurt myself so she’ll do what I want” mama. Like the line “this has got nothin’ to do with Satan mama! It’s me!” Got me hard. How the further into the film the more stuff is brought up, like the first song in prom mentions the devil, Tommy himself says a few biblical like jokes. That sort of thing.
Also this:
Which is brilliant in my eyes
As sad as the movie gets me it has its sweet moments and funny ones
Like Carrie going ham trying out the different make ups
The great ruffle tuxedo debate
Overall love the movie, I’m assuming the movie is completely different isn’t it?

Ace attorney for the blorbo ask thing?
thanks for the ask! AA, well... honestly I wasn't in the fandom for a while now, but I still like the games a lot and I think I remember most of the important characters so here we go!!!
blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most): well, again I wasn't really thinking about AA lately but I think Maya, she was always my favorite and I think I maybe based some of my personality on her at one point. Maybe. Possibly also Athena. And Apollo. I like them a little less than Maya but they're my duo of dumbasses and I wouldn't let anyone hurt them I feel like I have to atleast mention the judge here he's amazing
scrunkly (my “baby”, character that gives me cuteness aggression, character that is So Shaped): Pearl, definitely Pearl. Especially 8 year old Pearl. God dammit I would die for the child. She's Adorable (Trucy too, but I always liked Pearls a bit more, narumayo trash solidarity I guess) also this might be cheating but child versions of Feenie, Larry, Edgie and Franziska from the anime were Very Cute and I would also die for them
scrimblo bimblo (underrated/underappreciated fave): hm, I wanted to say Franziska but now I'm thinking Kay. Yeah Franziska is. well. maybe my favorite actually (but in a different way from Maya, I like Maya but Franziska is kinda painfully relatable so I can only think about her sometimes to not spiral into depression over my own life), but I'd say Kay is more underrated. The Investigations games are underrated and more people should play them basically
glup shitto (obscure fave, character that can appear in the background for 0.2 seconds and I won’t shut up about it for a week): AAI2 especially. Sebastian. I'm putting him here because from what I know there's still a bunch of people who like AA but never played AAI2, but if he doesn't count then... I guess Penny Nichols? I wanted to cosplay her when I still had longer brown hair. I still want to cosplay her honestly. She's also in AAI2. What a coincidence
poor little meow meow (“problematic”/unpopular/controversial/otherwise pathetic fave): okay, maybe I should put Sebastian here, I kind of enjoy him mostly because he's a bit pathetic, but he's not problematic enough I think. So! Dahlia. I wouldn't call her my "fave", I mostly love to hate her, but that's the thing, she's good at what she's meant to do and that is make me angry (and also is a good villain or whatever). Idk I like her design a lot, I love how innocent she looks until she doesn't, I think that's fun. And her story is honestly tragic, I used to call her, Matt and Kristoph the big trio I absolutely hated but now she intrigues me. So I'm putting her here
horse plinko (character I would torment for fun, for whatever reason): I don't think I have one tbh. I rarely really have characters I want to suffer just for the sake of it... But if I had to pick one (and I guess I kinda do), then Larry? I don't like him too much, he's cool but can be annoying, which is why he's not my pathetic fave (that, and also I don't like him for being pathetic, I feel very neutral about him because he's just. some guy. Which is nice in the AA universe where Just Some Guys usually don't exist but idk I just think he's kinda boring), I definitely don't want him to suffer, but I could bully him a little you know
eeby deeby (character I would send to superhell): okay now HERE'S Matt. Matt Engarde just so we're clear. I like him a lot as a character, and by that I mean he's the absolute worst and I would stomp on him probably. Choosing "not guilty" and then watching him have a breakdown is honestly one of my favorite parts of AA. Ok yeah maybe he's the character I want to see suffer the most. Alright so in that case, Kristoph? He just infuriates me, but doesn't make me go all into rage mode like Matt does. Also Oldbag. She can burn
#ace attorney#me: oh yeah i'm not too into aa anymore so this will be short and boring probably#also me: *writes a freaking novel going into basically everything i remember about these characters*#ask game#rin's textposts#technically

So I saw the post where you said send in requests and i havent seen anything negating that, so uh, do you think you could write something (when you have the time and motivation of course please dont feel obligated (unless you want to) ) where people start noticing the way Draco flinches whenever someone makes a sudden movement and then all of the sudden one day he comes back to the castle after holiday and its so much worse and people start kinda trying to help and make his days better?
okay, here we go. And no one can convince me that no one at Hogwarts noticed that Draco was a victim of abuse but since Harry has the attention span of a goldfish, it wasn’t added that and JKR is a terrible person.
Also warning: this does talk about physical emotional and mental abuse. I want you all to know that you NEVER deserve it and never believe that your abuse situation “isn’t that bad.” You are cherished and loved and worthy and valuable.
okay, so the first year wasn’t too bad not that it wasn’t bad but, well Draco was innocent to any other way so he thought it was normal for his father to do what he did
Then things start to dawn on him that maybe no... this isn’t how it’s supposed to go. Yet, whenever he asks a question against his father... things don’t end well for him. “But why are muggle-born so bad?” “What’s wrong with the Weasleys?” “Why are you so mean to the house-elves?” It never ends well, so he stops asking but now boy does he have a lot of questions and internal conflict that grows.
back to the point so someone drops a book/cauldron/glass something and Draco jumps and begins to panic “is his father mad? What did he do? How can he do better?” because he’s convinced that his father is on another rampage, but Crabbe just nudges his arm and he’s brought back to the present and that he’s not in trouble or danger
Snape is the first to notice because he knows what to look for in a child that has been abused at home, from personal experience, so he scolds the student who dropped the thing harshly
Our darling Hufflepuffs take note very quickly. In fact, there’s a support group at Hogwarts for kids who come from not so safe homes. Magical abuse or not, it's a group to just come and feel safe and like you’re not alone lead by Sprout and McGonagall
In Herbology with Draco, the Hufflepuff tells Momma Sprout about what they think is going on and boy is Sprout a momma bear looking out for Draco at every turn and looking into any records she can get her hands on
These kids from the support group start to become very worried about Draco because they’ve seen it all before and they hate seeing anyone else go through what they went through
They start to send him anonymous letters so that he’ll get mail in the mornings, and sneak sweets/snacks into his bag when they notice he’s not eating, or volunteer to be his partner in class
Boy is Draco confused
Which means he snaps a lot more and is rude and scared because he doesn’t understand why they’re being so nice to him
Alone is what I have, alone is what protects me
When Buckbeak attacks him, of course, he breaks down into tears because it’s all too familiar and he’s terrified that if he blinks he might open his eyes and it’ll be his father coming at him, not Buckbeak
and maybe he keeps the bandages and brace on longer for more than he needs it because it was a reminder that someone cared for him and mended his wounds and he didn’t have to do it himself
You think he just like Potions? Oh no, he’s had to make his own healing Potions all his life for the sake of keeping up the family appearance.
Luna Lovegood, the precious child sees right through all of it. Easily. And is a lot more confrontational about it than the support group, who did things more on the down-low. She takes all of his ridicule and taunts and snaps and lets him yell at her because she knows he needs to vent to someone
When Hermione pulls her wand out to attack him, sure, he could be a drama queen with all bark and no bite but maybe again it's too familiar and whenever there’s a wand in his face like that it ends with him in pain
That night Luna finds Draco in the Astronomy tower alone and just sits next to him.
He scoffs but after a while asks how can she deal with living alone with her father. She tells him that her father is the kindest person she knows and it finally gets through to Draco that how he grew up was not normal.
Luna tells him about the Support Group and he gets notes here and there as invitations, and maybe he decides to go one night
He’s surprised to see a lot of kids he knows. Luna goes and sits by some of her friends, Neville is there, and quite a few older Slytherins, and the Hufflepuff from his Herbology class who smiles and waves at him.
He realizes that these are all the kids who have been nice to him
He doesn’t share at all during the meeting (it’s sort of like AA where kids just go through and talk about what happens to them, if they’ve grown or made progress, what scared them still. The older kids offer advice and comfort and tissues because everyone cries)
He doesn’t share for a few weeks of meetings that he attends, but he doesn’t feel so hopeless anymore
Maybe now he doesn’t snap so much and maybe he’s not as scared anymore to let people in because he’s not alone and he realizes that everyone has their own inner demons and struggles
Fifth-year is the worst for him. With No Nose back, his father is vicious and ruthless and takes his pain and anger out on Draco.
It’s after easter break that he finally shares. “My... my father...”
Before he can say another word there are arms wrapped around him and hands on his shoulders and soft encouragements and consoles.
“He... he used the cruatious curse on me... and said that if I didn’t do it on someone else that he’d...” And Draco just breaks down into tears because he feels wicked and broken and ashamed.
He cries harder when no one judges him or yells at him or treats him differently. He’s still just Draco to them. The same thing happens when he tells them about the Dark Mark,
When he starts to slip through the cracks, the group vividly helps him like they’ve helped kids before him for generations.
Ravenclaws helped him study and find motivation when he started to fail his classes, Hufflepuffs show him how to have fun and take breaks and self-care, Slytherins are there in the common room on sleepless nights with tea and blankets, Gryffindors are there as a defense squad against anyone who wants to get to Draco and boy do they rip on Harry
But maybe Draco sees in Harry what the others saw in him. A kid who’s very fast with reflexes and has the same sort of anger and defense mechanisms that he did
Draco defends Harry from a Slytherin and Harry is confused and the Slytherin is confused but they back down
Harry just glares and walks away and Draco rolls his eyes and sighs
He sends Harry invitations to the Support Group but the golden boy never shows
When the Death Eaters kidnap Luna, Draco about loses it because Luna was one of the first ones who helped him grow
So he goes down to the dungeon and they still have their own little support group. Luna sees first hand what it’s like to be Draco especially when his father makes Draco use the cruatious curse on her
He cries and begs for Luna’s forgiveness and of course, he has it, she knows he never wanted to hurt anyone
At Hogwarts seventh year, he and the Slytherins who were a part of the support group are now also apart of the rebellion and Draco is livid about the punishments that Snape allows because how dare he allow physical abuse as a punishment and he gets an earful from Draco about it
Snape explains that it’s to keep him safe and Voldemort from suspecting anything and Draco just “I don’t give a damn about me or you! Stop hurting these kids! They’ve done nothing to deserve it!” And he’s in tears
Snape pulls back on his regimen a bit
Of course, Draco lies to his father about not knowing who Harry is. Why would he let his father win when Draco held the cards?
When Draco’s father calls him back to the side of the Death Eaters, he’s about to go because he is still afraid of his father but Luna takes his hand and so does the Hufflepuff from Herbology, and soon there are hands on his shoulders and arms, reminding him that he’s not alone and that he’s not the scared little kid anymore and he stands with Hogwarts
He and Harry eventually have a talk about growing up and the abuse they both suffered and Harry and Draco both grow as people and stop being so childish and put away the grudge and hatred for another
He takes a Slytherin girl under his wing in eighth year who’s two years younger than him and jumping at her own shadow. He brings her into the Support Group and helps her find some courage and self-worth
That girl is Astoria Greengrass
