I feel lame for not having many ocs tbh. Whatever i do what i want forever
#idk i feel like my entire art is only ever used on drawing pre existing characters#usually from popular ips i feel so shallow.#any ocs i make i never get attached to. and if i do im too nervous to post them#or like with my fandom intrests i love them so intensely and then a month or so later#i dont give a shit anymore. i wish i wasnt so reliant on pre existing characters with pre existing personalities to draw#my attention. and draw in general.#bc when im not in an intense intrest phase i cant draw for shit. thatd be a perfect time to draw my ocs right?#but i need to be intensely intrested to draw in the first place. and they aren't fleshed out they dont have content#yhere is no book or movie or show or game. ive gotta do all of that. but that passion isn't there#i get no big ideas for stories of my own. no characters with compelling backgrounds everytging i do#just feels like a rehash or repackaging of something else.#and insult to injury. usually i can pinpoint exactly which pre exosting character im ripping from#which nothing wrong witg inspiration. if it was anyone else i'd be like fuck yeag dude thats awesome#but because its me it feels like stealing stealing stealing i cant think of anything on my own so i must steal#idk. whatever.#i mean i do have ocs but i havent drawn them in fucking forever it feels like. and i love them ig#for once i cant really pinpoint where i pulled them from. but too nervous to post them on#this blog and also again. drawing them feels like a chore because the obsession isnt there#vent#whateverrrrr my interps are baller my lines are swagular. im gonna make it whatever#and also i feel like a flake with my intrests and its not deliberate but sometimes i feel like im#pullibg people in from fandoms then pulling a switcheroo gotcha on them by being invested#in something else#which obviously im fucking not thats stupid im not doing this on purpose#but it still feels so yuuuuucky like im sorry ik this isnt what you folloed me for. sorry#SJATEVER i win at art wbatever whatever

once again the new episode of dungeon meshi is 99% YES AMAZING GOOD with one Tiny Little Thing that irked me. today its the way they did this scene:
with the caveat that i dont know which one is more ACCURATE to the original japanese, i just loved the phrasing of "youre missing the point!" "no, thats EXACTLY the point!" so much. in the english dub, its instead "THATS where your mind goes?" which. idk, just doesnt hit the same way?
with "the point", it kinda feels like an encapsulation of how people see laios and dismiss him. people constantly see laios as being unobservant and having bad priorities, but this is a moment where he is asking an EXTREMELY practical question. while everyone else is concerned with the implications of this, laios accepts the premise and moves on to the logistics. seriously, how fucking hard is it gonna be? they think hes just being his usual weirdo self thinking about eating dragons before saving falin, but no, hes just doing the math and saying "shit, it would work but are we even CAPABLE of that?"
yeah, the way he says it isnt the most tasteful (lol), but the immediate dismissal of his question as "missing the point", just like laios always misses the point and misses social cues and misses subtex, before him showing that no, hes thinking several steps ahead of everyone else while theyre worried about small stuff like "cannibalism" and "eating their friend".
and i think just having the line being "youre missing the point!", "no, thats EXACTLY the point!" just kinda gets to the heart of a lot of stuff. again, idk which is closer to the orig, but this is one of the lines i remember the most from this series, and it was a specific moment i was looking forward to. just kinda sad that the english dub has it just be a couple of lines that fall really flat for me
(also, personally, i dont feel like the animation properly conveyed these panels. they did SO much sick ass animation in these eps, and i kinda just wish it woulda better portrayed "one of the very few times laios shows his anger", its KIND OF a joke panel, but its also REALLY not. its a huge character moment i think and i wish they woulda drawn it out a bit and made it a bit more serious.)
#dungeon meshi#dungeon meshi spoilers#laios touden#laios#laios dungeon meshi#laios dunmeshi#other people have waxed poetic about this scene way better than i have sorry#just. thess few panels are SO important i think#buzzy

harvey specter x reader idk they meet in a book store (maybe the reader could run it?) never giving each other last names or smhting. but the reader is mikes sister and mike tells her all about harvey but no one manges to connect teh dots? idk you have free control i just thought something like that where the reader has nothing to do wiht his work life and is really soft and sweat .
— bookstores and brothers 𓏲 ࣪₊♡𓂃
pairing: harvey specter × reader (+ mike ross & reader are siblings)
summary: a hotshot lawyer walks into a café bookstore and meets a pretty barista. the world is smaller than he thinks.
warnings: none! kinda suggestive but nothing crazy
wordcount: 3.7k (yikes!)
a/n: first request! sorry this was so horrifically late but hopefully the length makes up for it? but also not proofread OOPS. (more rambling at the end <3)
(if you want to be tagged in future fics or if you have any requests, let me know! for my other fics, here's my masterlist!)
Ever since your brother, Michael, started making the big bucks at his job as a fraud lawyer, he had decided to invest in you — your business, that is. With his investment, you were able to follow your dream of opening a bookstore-meets-café, with a small apartment atop the store. Your store was popular enough that you were able to live comfortably; you had a community of regular readers who came for your books (especially since you’d always fulfil requests) and a hoard of regulars that came for your coffee. Your coffee was easily the best in the area, and people even went out of their way to get coffee from you.
Someone who went out of their way for your coffee, though you didn’t know this, was Harvey. You knew very little about him; he was a very attractive man who came in at 8:30am, like clockwork, for his black coffee with vanilla and sugar. You were rarely able to converse with him for very long or in a lot of detail, but you had assumptions. He was maybe a banker or some kind of lawyer like your brother, but the only thing you knew for sure was his coffee order and the fact that he wore a three-piece suit every day. On particularly warm days, he’d forgo either the jacket or the vest, both of which were welcome options. On particularly cold days, he wore a scarf and gloves, and even a coat. His hair was always styled the exact same and he had the most wonderful crow’s feet and smile lines.
This morning, Harvey took you by surprise by coming in earlier than normal. He came in at 8:17am exactly. It was a warm day so he was without his vest, but other than that he was in his normal attire. Since you were having a slower morning this morning, you started his coffee as soon as you saw him approach. By the time he was in the door and at your counter, you’d finished making his coffee and his cup was ready on the counter. You were feeling bold and flirty and had drawn a heart next to his name on the cup and it was visible to him when he stood in front of you.
“Good morning, Harvey.” You were feeling very cheery this morning, and even more so after seeing him walk in the door.
“Good morning, Y/N. That for me?” He was eyeing the cup on the counter that was very obviously for him, typical smirk on his face and a playful glint in his eye.
“No, it’s a black coffee with sugar and vanilla for the other Harvey in my life.” You teasingly rolled your eyes as he picked up the cup. You weren’t sure if your eyes were deceiving you, but it seemed like he was being careful to not smudge your penmanship on the cup.
“Well, it’s a good thing this other Harvey isn’t here so I can have his coffee.” He took a sip of the drink, completely unfazed by the temperature and smiled. “Perfect as always. Crazy how this other Harvey drinks the exact same niche coffee that I do, hm?”
You bared your teeth in a cheeky smile. “So crazy,” you replied. “Did you want a pastry or anything?” You gestured towards the display case of freshly baked goods, pausing at your favourite. “This one goes down a real treat.”
“How about a rain check on the pastry, and you can bring it with you when I make you dinner tomorrow night at my apartment?” he asked, feeling equally as bold and flirty as you were. He supplemented his question with a warm smile, his entire demeanour oozing confidence.
“Oh? The elusive Harvey idon’tknowyourlastname asking me on a date, I see?” you teased, though internally you were screaming: ‘YES! I would love dinner with you!’
“You’re cute. Is that a yes? Maybe I’ll tell you my last name when you come over.” He was reciprocating your teasing, which you thoroughly enjoyed. You always appreciated a man who could keep up with your humour.
“I have a better idea. Come back after I close up shop and we can have a reading date. The best way to get to know someone is through the books they like to read.” You smiled shyly, nervous to be rejected, though Harvey didn’t seem like the type of man to rudely reject your ideas.
His warm smile was all the confirmation you needed. “That sounds perfect. I’ve been meaning to check out the other half of your establishment for some time. I need some enrichment in my life.”
“Well, if by enrichment you mean a cheesy romance, I’m your girl. I have a bad habit of stocking my favourites and I am a romantic at heart, so that’ll make up a lot of what you find here. I have other stuff, too, but I just gravitate to a good romance book,” you rambled. You blushed when you finally caught yourself, smiling as you tucked a loose strand of hair behind your ear.
“Well, clearly I need some romance in my life. I’ll be here this evening.” He didn’t seem put off by your rambling which you were grateful for. Your stomach buzzed with excitement as you nodded.
“See you this evening.”

Harvey had just signed off for the day and was slipping his jacket over his shoulders when Mike Ross walked into his office.
“Haven’t we talked about you not barging in here unannounced?” He asked, only half joking with his associate.
“We both know you don’t care anymore,” Mike replied, rolling his eyes. “And where are you going? It’s only,” he checked his watch, “5:30. Why do you get to leave but I’m stuck here late?”
“First of all, it’s none of your business where I’m going. And second, I did my time working 23 hours a day. And third, it’s none of your business.” Harvey made the decision to take off his tie as he spoke, wanting to feel more comfortable and casual while he was with you.
“Removing your tie, too? You have a hot date tonight. What restaurant are you taking her to?”
“Mike. Shut up.”
Mike laughed at Harvey’s reaction. “Alright, have fun old man. Use protection!” He shouted as Harvey walked out of his office, no longer entertaining Mike’s discussion.
───────── ⋆⋅☼⋅⋆ ─────────
He arrived much earlier than close. You were unusually busy this evening and hadn’t even noticed Harvey walk into the store as you finished the line of coffees in front of you. You finally finished and swapped with your employee to take over as cashier when a familiar voice ordered a familiar, but niche, coffee.
“Can I get a large black coffee with vanilla and sugar? But can the pretty barista make it and sign my name with a heart like she did this morning?” he teased, smiling as he saw you.
“Harvey! You’re early, I’m not off yet,” you replied, brow furrowed with concern.
“I was finished for the day and thought I’d come in early and chill here. And by finished for the day, I mean distracted and eager.”
“And by chill here, you mean bug me until I’m done?” you teased, a playful glint in your eye.
“Something like that,” he replied, the look in his eye matching yours.
“Okay, well, I’m going to hope you meant me when you said ‘pretty barista’ and I’ll bring your coffee over to you in a second.” A warm blush tinted your cheeks as you spoke, swapping places with your confused barista once again.
You quickly made Harvey’s coffee and signed his cup with a heart as he’d requested. After making a mocha for yourself, you spoke to your employees, asking them to take over for you now that the rush had started to slow down for the night. You removed your apron and took your hair out of its loose bun and found Harvey sitting on a sofa in the bookstore portion of your shop.
“Coffee for the gentleman.” You held the coffee cup out for him to take, the side with his name written on it facing towards him. “I would’ve made it in a mug but I had a weird request from the guy ordering it.”
You took a seat next to him and brought your cup to your lips, taking a sip and letting out a quiet hum of appreciation for your drink. He looked at you quizzically as you did so, expecting you to have to get back to work.
“I managed to get off early. Perks of being the owner.” You smiled over your cup as you slipped off your shoes and got comfortable on the sofa.
“I don’t think I ever registered that you were the owner here. It’s like, I knew but didn’t know. Does that make sense?” he asked, smiling as he took a sip of his regular coffee.
“It does. Kinda. My brother Michael helped make it happen, he’s a lawyer at some hotshot firm and invested in me and my little dream.” You gestured around the room as you spoke, smiling gratefully at the thought.
“Did you know I’m also a lawyer at some hotshot firm?” he asked. His tone was light and playful, which you appreciated.
“I did not. What’s it like, hotshot?” You tucked your feet under you and wrapped both hands around your cup, turning slightly so that your body was completely facing Harvey.
“Well, I’m the best closer in the city. I’m great at what I do and I love doing it. And I have an associate who is determined to become my mini-me. No complaints.” Deep smile lines framed his mouth like a piece of art as you admired him and took in his words.
“A mini Harvey, huh? Sounds like he looks up to you.” Despite your matter-of-fact tone, you were asking a question, curious to know his opinion on the matter.
“It seems like he does. I don’t ever say it but sometimes it feels like pressure. I’ve worked in the grey a lot and I worry about him following in my footsteps. I wouldn’t ever say that to him though.” He opened up to you, though neither of you had expected it. He was surprised by how easy you were to talk to and how quickly he had allowed himself to be vulnerable with you.
“It does sound like a lot, but I’m sure you have nothing to worry about. My brother always tells me about his mentor; he says that despite making some questionable decisions, he’s great at what he does and he looks up to that. It’s probably a similar situation,” you told him sincerely, reaching out to place one hand on his arm in an attempt to comfort him.
“His mentor sounds like a great lawyer. What’s his name? Maybe I know him,” Harvey asked, obviously wanting to change the subject from his vulnerable state.
“I’m not sure. I can’t remember, I have the worst memory literally ever,” you reply, smiling shyly. “I’m good at remembering books, though! Shall we get stuck in?”
“Is this the part where you bombard me with a million love stories?” he teased, clearly amused but secretly excited.
“God no. Just one. Or you can pick your own.”
“Do you like to reread books?”
“Oh, I love to. I’ve reread almost all of my favourites.”
He looked at you smiling, amused once again by your answer. “How about this. Let’s read your favourite book together, and then next time we can read mine?”
“Oh? Next time? You’re that sure it’s going to go well tonight?” you asked teasingly, giggling to yourself.
You stood up and walked to the shelving, immediately finding your current favourite book and pulling out two copies. You got comfortable on the sofa once again and handed one copy to Harvey. “This is a current favourite, but I haven’t had a chance to reread it yet. It’s a university-based hockey romance and the main character is a PhD student who’s half-Indian and vehemently hates hockey players. I loved it. If you don’t like it, please. Do not tell me. I can’t cope with that much heartbreak.”
You beamed at him and Harvey felt his heart melt at your expression. You were clearly passionate and excited to share this book with him, and he was looking forward to reading it; to seeing into a small piece of your soul.
The pair of you read together for about an hour. You kept to a similar pace and offered casual commentary and anecdotes from time to time. You had to resist the urge to spoil the plot, sometimes only offering quiet hums as opposed to full sentences. You gradually felt yourselves growing physically closer, until you were laying down with your head next to his leg and your hair draped across his lap, legs dangling over the arm of the sofa. He was idly twirling a strand of your hair, only pausing to turn a page when necessary.
You finished the chapter you were reading and made a mental note of where you were up to before snapping the book closed. “Okay, I think we should call it. I’m starving.” You looked up at him from where your head was resting and watched as he closed the book without his hand leaving your hair.
“Sounds good to me, sweetheart. Since you chose the book, I’ll choose the restaurant. Sound good?” he asked, looking at you with that smile.
“Sounds great, sweetheart,” you replied, playfully teasing him.
───────── ⋆⋅☼⋅⋆ ─────────
After the success that was reading and dinner that night, the pair of you went on another date. And another. And another. The pair of you got to know each other like the backs of your hands and became unashamedly infatuated with one another. Harvey told you about his brother, Marcus, and you told him about yours. You mostly focussed on childhood stories about your whizz-kid brother with the photographic memory, but you occasionally did update Harvey on your brother’s relationship with his mentor. All positive, but you sometimes did joke that he sounded like he could be a bit of a dickhead.
After about a month of consistently seeing each other, you discussed meeting the family. You were in his apartment with your head on his lap, the pair of you laying in his big comfy bed.
“Well, I only have Michael. Our parents passed when we were pretty young and my grandma passed almost a year ago. So you only have to deal with my brother and my best friend. Super easy,” you told him, idly tracing his skin with your index finger.
“I have my brother and his family; he’s got a wife and kids. And then my mother but we don’t talk. So a similar situation for you. Brother and some friends. I’d say you can meet my associate and colleagues but they’d grill me rather than you. So would Marcus, actually.”
You giggled at his words but stopped as the seriousness of your relationship started to set in. Talking about meeting the family was a big step for you considering how little family you had. Letting someone into that trauma felt extremely vulnerable but just as quickly as you felt nervous, you felt calm. You were ready for this. You wanted this with Harvey. You decided to mess with him regardless.
“So… You think you’re ready to meet the family, hm? That’s a pretty big step,” you started, pretending to be deadly serious.
“Oh? Is it now? You don’t want to meet my family?” he asked, tone playful but you could tell there was an undertone of nervousness when he spoke.
“Well, I don’t think two people engaging in a casual fling have any business meeting each other’s families. Don’t you agree?” you continued to tease, though Harvey couldn’t tell you were only teasing.
“Is that what you think this is? A casual fling?” The hurt was starting to show in his voice and you smiled, not at his pain, but at the fact that clearly the pair of you were on the same page with how serious your relationship had become.
“Is that not what you think it is? Do we need to have the what are we conversation?” The teasing lilt to your voice was obvious this time, which immediately eased Harvey’s nerves and put him out of his misery. He smiled at you, smile lines popping and his eyes sparkling once again.
“No conversation necessary, baby. You’re my girl and I’m your man.” He tugged on the piece of your hair that was wrapped around his finger, causing you to smile.
“My man? Too old for the boyfriend title, hm? Old man,” you joked, poking him in the abdomen.
“I’ll show you old man,” he replied, flipping you so that you were pinned to the mattress under him. The pair of you were a giggly, smiley mess, both excited to have established what you were to each other. Both true romantics at heart.
The next morning Harvey left you in his bed, heading to the office after kissing you goodbye. You watched him get dressed and style his hair, finishing his process by skillfully tying his tie. You watched his hands move the whole time, thinking about how they were all over you the previous night, and you sighed contentedly. Once he left, you flopped back onto his bed, hair fanning out across the pillows as you inhaled your boyfriend’s scent.
You spent the next few hours reading, gratefully taking advantage of your day off. You made yourself an at-home coffee and easily moved around Harvey’s lavish apartment whenever you wanted a change of scenery, taking full advantage of the space. At around midday, you placed a lunch order to pick up from your and Harvey’s favourite café and got dressed, opting for a pretty white sundress. You left your hair down in its natural form and quickly left Harvey’s building, picked up lunch, and headed in to his office building.
On your way to Harvey’s office you, surprisingly, bumped into your brother.
“Mike? What are you doing here?” you asked, not expecting to see him today.
“Obviously I’m lawyer-ing, Y/N. What else?” he replied. His sassy tone was an exact mirror image of how yours sometimes was with Harvey, and the fact that you were siblings became extremely obvious if someone focussed on your mannerisms.
“You mean fake lawyer-ing?” you teased, tone matching his perfectly.
“Ha ha. What are you doing here?” he asked, one eyebrow raised as he looked at you, taking in your appearance in his place of work and the bag in your hand.
“Obviously I’m bringing lunch to my boyfriend, Michael. What else?” you mocked playfully, wide smile on your face.
“Boyfriend? Here? Who’s your boyfriend?” he started to ask, but before he could grill you, you spotted Harvey walking towards you.
“Hey, Harvey,” you beamed, greeting him with a warm smile as he walked up to you.
He leaned down to give you a quick peck, completely ignoring Mike’s presence. “Hi, baby,” he mumbled, smiling back at you. He finally turned to look at Mike. “Mike, this is my girlfriend, Y/N. Sweetheart, this is my associate that I’ve been telling you about, Mike-”
“Mike Ross,” you interrupted, smiling as the realisation set in. Harvey’s associate was your brother. Your brother’s mentor was your boyfriend. You threw your head back laughing once you realised, shocked that nobody had put the pieces together sooner. “Harvey, meet my brother. Michael Ross.”
The shared look on both of their faces was priceless. They looked at you as if you’d sprouted another head, which only made you laugh more. Both of them joined in once they realised the situation, with Mike being the first one to break the circle of laughs in the middle of the office.
“So this is the hotshot lawyer you’ve been basically ignoring me for?” he asked you, gesturing towards Harvey. “And this is the barista slash bookworm you’ve been dumping all your work on me for?” he asked Harvey, gesturing towards you.
You both nodded and agreed with a perfectly in-sync, “Yes.”
Harvey looked between you both in disbelief. “Wait a minute. Your last name isn’t Ross.” He was asking a question without actually asking, as he often did.
“Very good observation, Harvey,” you replied.
“Yeah, thank you, Captain Obvious,” Mike chimed in, causing you to smile. The two of you had always been a sarcastic duo, irritating a lot of your older relatives in your younger years.
“Oh my god,” Harvey mumbled, “There’s two of them. Exactly alike. How did I not realise?”
“To answer your unasked question,” you started pointedly, focussing on your boyfriend and suppressing your giggles, “I took my mother’s maiden name as soon as I was able to. Y/N Ross just sounds ugly, and this way, I get to honour her.”
Both Harvey and Mike visibly softened at your explanation. Harvey snapped out of it after a moment. “You’ve been talking shit about me to your pretty sister?” he asked Mike, punching him lightly on the shoulder.
“She was my sister before she was your girlfriend, man. That’s my right,” he replied, punching Harvey right back. “Speaking of, if you ever hurt her, I’ll-”
“What are you going to do? Fake lawyer him?” you jumped in at Harvey’s defence, keeping your voice quiet since you were still in a communal area.
“No, I was going to say I’d beat his ass.”
“Like you could. Have you seen his arms?”
“Okay, can you stop thirsting over my boss right in front of me? That’s disgusting.” Mike pretended to gag at your behaviour and you rolled your eyes in response.
“I can do so much worse, Michael,” you teased, pulling Harvey down by his tie to meet your mouth in a (relatively tame) kiss. Mike said nothing but walked away, muttering to himself about your ‘disgustingly inappropriate behaviour’.
“Now that he’s finally gone,” you started after releasing Harvey from your hold and holding up the bag in your hand, “Lunch?”

Hello! Just wanted to say that I've been reading your posts and analyses for awhile now, and I really enjoy them! So, I also thought of sharing a sort of theory of mine, bc I'm very interested in hearing what you might think about it.
For starters, these lines from Jia Xichun are very intriguing:
«No amount of pain could wake it from... whatever this dazed state it's in. As you can see...»
«... it must've been long driven mad from pain. Reminds you of the tricks from back home that could induce such an effect, doesn't it? Big brother.»
For two reasons. 1. This is the first time (iirc) in the story where Hong Lu doesn't reply and stays silent and seemingly uneasy; 2. The fact that this "dazed state" as it is described actually kind of reminds of Hong Lu's usual behavior a bit?
To elaborate, after her lines the attention was drawn back to the Priest, and his face was described as "serene". And who's facial expression was also described in a similar manner, precisely, with a literal synonym? Of course, Hong Lu, during the TKT Intervallo:
«The culprit wasn't the only one who suddenly began to behave strangely. Hong Lu did, too.»
«His face relaxed into a tranquil look, as though he was ready to let something go.
... Or perhaps... that was an express of liberation.»
And also to mention how the Priest started reminiscing similarly to how Hong Lu tells stories about his family (but idk, I'm afraid I am starting to reach even harder for this😭)
All in all, my theory, if you can call it that, is that perhaps those "tricks from back home" where actually performed on Hong Lu. This could potentially explain his constant aloofness, his reaction to Xichun's words (she brought up some of his traumatic memories?), and why exactly he has one of the most deranged IDs — because he has already been long driven mad from pain.
I really hope I worded this well enough, and I don't know if I sound like a lunatic or if I actually cooked something when I was thinking abt this at 2 am. And well, I'm also probably not the first one to think of this. But anyways, still thought this is worth bringing up!
Well, I hope you enjoy the Xichun Sin Analysis I just posted earlier then! That being said, there is something interesting I want to bring up with regards to this theory you pose, as it's tangentially related to the bits you reference and also it's been sitting in my head for a while now.
First point - I definitely agree that when Xichun brings up the "tricks" that can leave people in a similar state to the Priest, it's something Hong Lu has experienced himself.
We see Hong Lu has a tendency to avoid topics that bother him at all cost, like how he actively tries to redirect conversations in Hell's Chicken when he's being questioned regarding what he thinks could lead him into Distorting and when he senses Meursault is about to verbally lay into him. It's a tactic he employs very often as a distraction from the weirder things he says.
Interestingly enough, I believe Canto 7 is the first time we see Hong Lu avoid topics not through redirection, but through shutting down. That interaction you brought up isn't the first time in the Canto that he's rendered speechless either. In part 1, he's shown to respond with silence when both Rodya and Sinclair comment on their dislike of Xichun, being seemingly uncomfortable with the way they're talking about her.
And then there's a scene even earlier on in Part 1 that left a really, really major impression on me. Which. I can talk about now!
This, I believe, is the first time in Canto 7 where we see Hong Lu properly shut down in response to something. Something about what Xichun has said made him completely stop what he was doing earlier. His entire approach to the conversation changes in this moment. Earlier on he was excitedly asking questions, trying to give advice and gather information, but after this moment, Hong Lu is rendered completely passive, his lines being reduced to only responding to Xichun is saying in a very... honestly weird way.
It's not obvious in the transcript by itself, but his tone is... odd, compared to the way he was speaking earlier. In addition to that, every expression Hong Lu has during this conversation after this point are ones that actively have him not looking at Xichun, either using his closed eyes sprite or looking to the side sprite.
This moment struck me very, very heavily the first time I got to it in my plathrough. Part of it is because of the weird unnatural shift Hong Lu's behavior takes in this moment that I wasn't even consciously noticing until a reread. The other part is that the exact words Xichun says to Hong Lu that triggers this are ones that reminded me of something very specific in Dream of the Red Chamber.
There is a chapter fairly early on in Hong Lu's source novel that I can only describe as Bao-yu being verbally and emotionally abused by his father for the entire chapter. His father takes Bao-yu along as he shows off his garden to his acquaintances, and every time Bao-yu speaks up, whether by being prompted to or on his own, his father chastises him excessively. I don't remember the exact words, but the framing is pretty clear about the fact that Bao-yu's father sees his son's behavior as being a source of embarassment to himself in front of his acquaintances.
The kind of abuse shown in that chapter is downright stomach-churning in how realistically it is potrayed. It's genuinely upsetting and one of the main reasons I was unable to continue reading much further past that point.
I don't think it's a coincidence that Project Moon decided the thing that made Hong Lu have a shift in his behavior was being told him being himself is a cause of embarassment for someone else in his family. ...And I think Xichun's immediate reaction shows she realizes what is happening as well. It's very telling she doesn't bring up Hong Lu 'not getting better since the last time they've met' until this moment.
Because I don't think the thing he hasn't gotten better from is his upbeat, naive attitude. I believe it's his trauma response he's exhibiting right here. To become passive, downright submissive, and simply take everything that's being dealt to him without objections.
...Which segues nicely into the second point! Because the 'serene daze' shown on the Priest? The tranquility and peace Hong Lu exhibits in TKT, which is outright called out as strange by Dante? I believe it's the exact same as the trauma response I highlighted earlier. It's the immediate instinct to just lay down and take the pain because trying to fight back would only prolong the suffering.
The line about that expression being potentially "an express of liberation" is very telling. On the one hand, this Canto only further cements the fact that Hong Lu is just as passively suicidal as Yi Sang was before going through Canto 4. On the other, it directly ties back to Hong Lu potentially believing that the less resistance he shows, the sooner he'll be freed from suffering.
I already briefly went insane over the following line in a seperate post, but it feels extremely important to bring it up in here as well.
This line. This. Fucking. Line. Directly creates parallels between Oblivion and Naivete, drawing parallels between Donqui/Sancho and Hong Lu. And it's not that hard to see why.
We see that Donqui/Sancho's choice to embrace Oblivion, to completely try and erase her former identity and fall into a dream is motivated by her wishing to escape her reality, to stop thinking about the bloodshed and violence.
This line, and what we see of how Hong Lu acts throughout this Canto, is making it clear that Hong Lu's naive attitude, his constant willingness to assume the best of everyone around him, is just another part of his trauma response I've pointed out earlier.
It's how he escapes the violence he's been subjected to, the reality he's been living in. After all, the explanation he gives for why he wasn't afraid when the Time Killer tried to kill him... is because he understands why people want to hurt him. He didn't fight back when his siblings tried to kill him, because he knew why they would want to do that.
Because he tries to assume the best of everyone, tries to understand the reasons they do what they do, tries to be naively innocent, he's able to accept the pain and let it happen. Because if he can't, if he's forced to face none of what was done to him was justified... Well...
...This is where I would like to jump off and go on a tangent about my own theory. You see, you bring up the story the Priest starts telling to compare it to how Hong Lu acts with his anecdotes, but I think there's something much deeper going on with that story. Look at how the Priest begins it.
It's very clear the story he's telling is him directly comparing someone among the Sinners to Lorenzo, the Bloodfiend he's talking about. Dante's narration doesn't specify who the Priest means, as they only mentioned that "He looked at us", but it's clear from his words that he means a Single Specific Person here.
On my initial readthrough I assumed this was about Donqui, as this is her Canto after all, but... I no longer believe that's the case. In fact, I believe that the Sinner being used as a parallel to Lorenzo here is Hong Lu.
Let me give my evidence first.
One - We know the Priest, even in his daze, still recognizes Donqui as Sancho. The way he ends off his story says as much.
It's clear from his words and his actions that he's actively blaming Sancho for what happened to Lorenzo, and what he believes has happened to Cassetti as well. This would align with the feelings all of the named Kindreds we mett express towards her. So, to me at least, it's clear that the Priest wouldn't compare Sancho to Lorenzo in a way he has here.
Two - The framing of the scene and what follows later puts a lot of focus on Hong Lu.
Hong Lu is extremely present during this scene. Not only is the Priest compelled to share the story right after we see Hong Lu shut down at what Xichun has said, but the CG that follows his story inexplicably includes Hong Lu in it, listening intently.
And not only that, but soon after the Priest is taken away and Sansón tells another story, we get the moment of Donqui telling Dante she thinks it's Hong Lu's turn in the Golden Bough horrors.
If this were a game made by anyone else, I would take this as a self-aware joke pointing fun at how much focus Hong Lu has gotten in a Canto that's not his and move on. But this isn't anyone else.
This is Project Moon, who have a very Notable Track Record of hiding extremely important reveals and foreshadowing in one-off lines during comedic moments, especially in Limbus. See Canto 2 and Hell's Chicken. I genuinely believe the reason this joke exists here is to draw our attention not only to the parallels between Donqui/Sancho and Hong Lu, but also to the moments where Hong Lu is already the focus.
Three - The phrasing the Priest uses to refer to whoever he's comparing to Lorenzo.
The way he addresses this person and the rest of the group is very interesting, as there's emphasis put on his choice of the word "friends" to describe them. This feels important, as earlier on, in Part 1, Hong Lu himself denies Xichun's assessment that the Sinners are his faction, deliberately calling them his friends. Just like here the Priest calls the people accompanying the one he's directing the story at their friends.
So... what does that all mean for Hong Lu to be directly compared to Lorenzo? Well, let's take a quick look at what Lorenzo's story is.
Lorenzo is initially described as a Bloodfiend filled with positivity, to the point that the Priest thinks he didn't have anything to actually confess for. We see him think the way he's able to eat so many hemobars in one sitting as impressive, seeming completely oblivious to the the fact it's a clear sign the hemobars do nothing for Bloodfiends nutritionally.
This attitude completely changes however after Lorenzo tastes blood for the first time. He completely loses himself to obsession, spending hours licking a syringe just to be able to taste it. He completely loses his hope in the hemobars, having the drastic realization they do nothing, and lamenting how much longer he has to keep on living like this.
The story ends with the Priest remarking that after that shift, the only time he had seen Lorenzo genuinely happy was when he was about to be buried alive, when his head and brain were already completely decimated to the point he should be dead.
This... is already a lot.
Lorenzo's initial attitude, his positivity and naive belief that the hemobars are good despite the evidence to the contrary, are extremely close to how Hong Lu is right now. Upbeat, oblivious, always assuming the best of others. Hong Lu's passively suicidal tendencies could also track to Lorenzo's ending, how it's clear that Hong Lu is extremely willing to accept his own death.
...And then there's the whole middle of that story. There's a lot of different things this could be foreshadowing for Hong Lu's arc, but one thing is clear - he's not going to stay his upbeat self forever.
Every hint we've had about Hong Lu thus far. The implication he knows there's something that could make him distort all the way back in Hell's Chicken. The way we're told this Canto that Hong Lu's eye is dimming right after he comments how Donqui's twinkling eyes show she's "lucid", or living completely detached from reality. And then this, him being directly compared to a story of a Bloodfiend who upon finally being hit with reality begins to spiral and completely lose all his hope.
It all points to the idea that Hong lu will be forced to face his reality. To understand that his hemobars do jack shit and always have, that perhaps his family have never truly cared for him. And that realization could very well be the thing that finally breaks him.
I mean, his IDs already point to it, no? After all, Fanghunt Lu, possibly the most violent and deranged Hong Lu ID released thus far, one released alongside this part mind you, is shown to be actively thinking about and doubting the nature of family. "What even is a real family, I wonder?"
I'm just saying, if there's any Sinner who deserves to go utterly apeshit in their Canto, it would be Hong Lu. Let. My guy. Break Everything.

Kenan Yildiz x fem! reader
︵‿୨♡୧‿︵‿︵‿୨♡୧‿︵‿︵‿୨♡୧‿︵‿
Growing up in a small town, the lines between family and friendship were often blurred. My family and Kenan’s were the epitome of that.
From playdates to family dinners, our lives were intertwined in ways that made it impossible to separate one from the other.
We were always together, whether we liked it or not. But as we grew older, what started as innocent childhood companionship evolved into something more complex—at least, for me.
I don’t remember the exact moment I realized I had a crush on Kenan. Maybe it was when he defended me against a playground bully in third grade, or when he spent a whole weekend helping me finish a school project that was due on Monday.
Or perhaps it was the way he always had this stupid grin on his face whenever he saw me, like seeing me was the best part of his day. Whatever it was, my crush on him grew slowly, steadily, until it became impossible to ignore.
Unlike most people with a secret crush, I didn’t exactly try to hide it. I couldn’t help but blush whenever he was near, and I’d make up the most ridiculous excuses just to spend more time with him.
My friends teased me about it constantly, and our families noticed, too.
They’d exchange knowing looks whenever I gazed a little too long at him, or when I found some flimsy reason to sit next to him at the dinner table. It wasn’t a secret to anyone—except Kenan himself.
Despite my obvious affections, Kenan remained blissfully unaware. He was kind-hearted and warm, with an easygoing nature that drew people to him, especially girls.
And that was the problem.
Even though everyone knew how I felt about him, Kenan never seemed to catch on, or maybe he just didn’t feel the same way.
It didn’t help that there were always girls pursuing him, drawn in by his charm and good looks. He never shied away from them, always speaking kindly, his warm nature making him a magnet for attention. I hated it.
Jealousy wasn’t a feeling I was proud of, but it was hard to avoid when Kenan seemed to have a new admirer every week.
He was nice to them, of course—too nice, in my opinion—and I often found myself seething silently as I watched him chat and laugh with girls who were far prettier and more confident than I was.
But just when I’d start to spiral into insecurity, Kenan would do something small but meaningful, like sending me a text to check in or inviting me over to hang out. It was his way of showing he still cared about me, even if it wasn’t in the way I wanted.
One time, after I had been particularly distant during a group outing, Kenan surprised me by showing up at my house with my favorite snacks and a dumb movie he knew I loved. We spent the entire evening on my couch, laughing until our sides hurt.
In those moments, it was easy to believe that maybe, just maybe, he felt the same way about me. But then I’d see him with another girl, and the doubts would creep back in.
The worst of it happened a few months ago. We were at a mutual friend’s birthday party when I saw him talking to a beautiful influencer who had recently moved to our town.
She was everything I wasn’t—gorgeous, sophisticated, and exuding a confidence that seemed effortless. I tried to stay away, to not let it bother me, but when I saw them kissing in a corner of the backyard, it felt like my heart had been ripped out of my chest.
I don’t remember much of what happened next. I left the party as quickly as I could, my mind reeling with a mix of anger and heartbreak. The next few weeks were a blur. I distanced myself from Kenan, avoiding him at all costs.
He tried to reach out multiple times, but I either ignored his calls or gave him the cold shoulder whenever he tried to talk to me in person. My heart couldn’t take it. If he had moved on with someone else, then I needed to let him go, even if it hurt like hell.
Kenan, however, was persistent. He’d show up at my house with lame excuses, like borrowing a book or asking for advice on something trivial.
Each time, I’d keep my answers short, making it clear that I didn’t want to talk. But he didn’t give up. It was like he couldn’t understand why I was pulling away, and the frustration was evident on his face.
Finally, one evening, I couldn’t take it anymore. He had shown up at my door again, this time with a sad smile and an apology for not calling ahead. I could see the concern etched on his face, but I was too exhausted to pretend everything was fine.
“Kenan, I really don’t have time for this,” I said, trying to keep my voice steady.
“What happened, Y/N? You’ve been avoiding me for weeks. Did I do something wrong?”
His voice was laced with genuine confusion and concern, and it broke my heart even more.
I wanted to scream, to tell him everything, but the words stuck in my throat. Instead, I just shook my head. “No, you didn’t do anything wrong. I just… I need some space.”
His expression softened as he took a step closer. “Is this about that party? The one where I… kissed that girl?”
My heart skipped a beat at the mention of it, but I forced myself to stay calm. “Why would that matter to me? You’re free to do whatever you want, Kenan.”
“But it does matter to you, doesn’t it?” he asked, his voice dropping to a whisper.
I didn’t answer. I couldn’t. The truth was too painful to admit.
Kenan sighed, running a hand through his hair in frustration. “Y/N, I never wanted to hurt you. That kiss… it didn’t mean anything. I was just trying to be polite. It’s nothing compared to what I feel for you.”
My eyes snapped up to meet his. “What?”
He took a deep breath, stepping even closer until there was barely any space between us. “Y/N, I’ve liked you for as long as I can remember. I just… I didn’t know how to tell you. And then you started avoiding me, and I thought I’d lost my chance.”
I stared at him in disbelief, my mind struggling to process what he was saying. “You… you like me?”
Kenan’s gaze was intense as he nodded. “Yes, I do. More than you know. And seeing you pull away from me has been killing me. I don’t want to lose you, Y/N. I never did.”
Tears welled up in my eyes as the weight of his words finally hit me. All this time, I had been doubting his feelings, assuming the worst, when in reality, he had felt the same way about me all along.
“But… you never said anything,” I whispered, my voice trembling.
“I was scared,” he admitted, his own voice breaking slightly. “Scared that I wasn’t good enough for you, that you’d realize you could do better. And then when you started pulling away, I thought maybe I was right.”
I couldn’t hold back the tears any longer. They spilled down my cheeks as I closed the gap between us, wrapping my arms around him in a tight hug. “You idiot,” I sobbed into his chest. “I’ve been in love with you for years.”
Kenan’s arms tightened around me, holding me close as if he never wanted to let go. “I’m so sorry, Y/N. I never meant to make you feel like you weren’t important to me. You’re the most important person in my life.”
We stood there for what felt like an eternity, just holding each other, letting the years of unspoken feelings and misunderstandings melt away.
When we finally pulled back, Kenan cupped my face in his hands, his thumbs brushing away my tears.
“I don’t want to hide how I feel anymore,” he said softly, his eyes locked on mine. “I love you, Y/N. And I’m going to spend every day proving it to you, if you’ll let me.”
My heart swelled with emotion as I nodded, a smile breaking through the tears. “I love you too, Kenan.”
He leaned in then, his lips capturing mine in a kiss that was soft and tender, yet filled with all the passion and love we had kept buried for so long.
It was a kiss that spoke of promises and new beginnings, of a future where we no longer had to hide our feelings from each other.
When we finally pulled apart, Kenan rested his forehead against mine, his breath warm against my skin. “You have no idea how long I’ve wanted to do that,” he murmured, a small smile tugging at his lips.
I laughed softly, the sound light and carefree. “Probably as long as I’ve wanted you to.”
He chuckled, pulling me back into his arms. “Well, now we don’t have to wait anymore. We’re in this together, okay? No more hiding, no more misunderstandings. Just us.”
“Just us,” I repeated, feeling a sense of peace and happiness that I hadn’t felt in a long time.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Y/N L/N wasn’t exactly prepared for how quickly her life would change when she landed a screenwriting gig for a new, high-profile film. As a writer, she was used to the quiet, creative solitude that came with her work, but when she was asked to join the set of a romantic comedy she had co-written, everything shifted. She found herself surrounded by A-listers, and one in particular stood out—Austin Butler.
Austin was one of Hollywood’s most sought-after leading men, especially after his breakout role in Elvis. He had this magnetic charm, a quiet confidence, and a smile that made Y/N’s stomach flip every time he looked her way. He was dating model Kaia Gerber, and their relationship was constantly splashed across tabloids and social media. Despite this, Y/N couldn't help but notice how much time they started spending together, especially when working on the project.
It started innocently enough—late nights revising scripts together, grabbing coffee in between scenes, and shared laughs during downtime. But as the days turned into weeks, Y/N found herself drawn to him in ways she hadn’t expected. He made her feel seen, appreciated. And when they shared ideas, their connection seemed effortless, like they were in sync with each other’s thoughts. Austin, for his part, began to notice things about Y/N that he couldn’t ignore. The way her face lit up when she talked about her work, her laugh that was contagious, and the way she was always thinking of others. Slowly but surely, he found himself captivated by her, his feelings growing stronger each day.
But there was always Kaia. She was the shadow that loomed over their budding connection, and it made Y/N uncomfortable. Kaia wasn’t just some random girl—she was someone Austin had been with for a while, someone he publicly adored. Despite how close she and Austin were getting, Y/N wasn’t about to cross that line. She valued herself and knew she couldn't be part of something messy. However, Austin wasn’t so sure anymore.
One day, after a long day of filming, Austin and Y/N sat together in a quiet corner of the set, away from the hustle and bustle. It was one of those moments where everything felt more intimate than it should’ve been. Austin turned to Y/N, his blue eyes searching hers, and said, “You know, working with you has been the highlight of this whole project.” Y/N laughed, trying to deflect. “You’re just saying that because I keep giving you the best lines.” Austin shook his head, his gaze lingering on her. “No, I mean it. I’ve never connected with someone the way I do with you.” Y/N’s heart raced.
She could feel the pull between them, but she didn’t want to acknowledge it. Not yet. “Austin…” she began, trying to keep her tone light, “you’re dating someone. You and Kaia—” Austin cut her off, his voice soft but firm. “It’s complicated with Kaia. I haven’t been honest with myself, or with her.” Y/N stared at him, her stomach twisting in knots. “You can’t just—” “I can’t stop thinking about you, Y/N,” Austin interrupted, his voice tinged with frustration.
“I don’t want to lie to you, or to myself. I’ve tried to push these feelings away, but they won’t go.” Y/N looked away, her heart pounding in her chest. She wanted to believe him, but the guilt gnawed at her. “This isn’t right, Austin. You’re with someone.” “I know,” he admitted, his tone full of regret. “But I can’t keep pretending that what I feel for you isn’t real. It’s stronger than anything I’ve felt in a long time.”
Y/N managed to avoid Austin’s advances for a while, but it became harder each day. Every time she saw him, her resolve weakened. It wasn’t that she didn’t feel the same—she did, but the weight of guilt and the fear of hurting someone else held her back. One evening, after filming wrapped for the day, Austin showed up at her trailer. His eyes were filled with determination, his jaw set in a way that told Y/N he wasn’t going to let this go. “Y/N, we need to talk,” he said, stepping inside without waiting for an invitation. She sighed, closing her laptop and standing up. “Austin, I’ve told you—”
“No, hear me out,” he insisted, his voice full of emotion. “I can’t keep pretending, Y/N. I broke up with Kaia.” Her heart skipped a beat. “What?”
“I told her the truth. That my feelings have changed. That I have feelings for someone else.” Y/N’s breath hitched. She hadn’t expected him to actually do it. This wasn’t how things were supposed to go. “You… you broke up with her because of me?” Austin stepped closer, his eyes pleading. “Because of us. I want to be with you, Y/N. I can’t keep living a lie.” Y/N’s head was spinning. This was too much, too fast. She backed away, shaking her head. “Austin, you can’t just—”
“I need you to understand,” he said, his voice thick with emotion. “I’m willing to fight for this. For you. I don’t want to hurt Kaia, but I can’t keep denying what I feel.” Y/N felt her walls crumbling. She had been so strong, so sure of keeping her distance, but now it felt impossible. Austin was standing in front of her, pouring his heart out, and she was powerless against it. “I don’t know,” she whispered, her voice barely audible.
Austin stepped even closer, gently taking her hands in his. “I do. Please, Y/N. Don’t push me away.” And in that moment, Y/N’s resolve shattered. She couldn’t deny it anymore. The way she felt for him was undeniable, and as much as she hated the circumstances, she couldn’t fight it any longer. “I… okay,” she whispered, her heart heavy with both guilt and relief.
For a few months, Y/N and Austin kept their relationship private, not wanting to stir up any drama, especially with Kaia so fresh out of the picture. But the secrecy didn’t last long. One afternoon, Y/N and Austin met up with three of his friends for a casual lunch. It was meant to be low-key, just the five them, but paparazzi had a knack for finding them, especially since Austin was constantly under the spotlight. As Y/N and Austin walked side by side, their fingers brushing against each other, a paparazzi snapped a photo. The image quickly spread like wildfire on social media— Y/N and Austin looking cozy, with their bodies leaning in closer than two "friends" should be.
The rumors exploded. Headlines blared: "Austin Butler Moves On From Kaia Gerber—Spotted With New Girlfriend Y/N L/N ". The internet was divided. Some people were thrilled, shipping the new couple, while others were furious on Kaia’s behalf. Fans took sides, with some calling Y/N a homewrecker, others applauding Austin for following his heart. It wasn’t long before Y/N found herself the target of online hate. Her social media was flooded with comments, some cruel, others supportive, but it was overwhelming nonetheless.
Austin did his best to shield her from it, but there was only so much he could do. “We need to address this,” he told her one evening as they sat in her apartment, his arm draped over her shoulders. “The rumors are out of control. We have to make a statement.” Y/N sighed, leaning her head against his chest. “I don’t know if I’m ready for that.” “You don’t have to go through this alone,” Austin assured her. “We’ll do it together.”
After days of deliberation, Y/N and Austin finally decided to go public with their relationship. They posted a picture of themselves together on Instagram, captioned simply: “Sometimes love happens in unexpected ways. We’re happy. That’s all that matters.” The internet exploded once again, but this time, Y/N felt more prepared. Austin was by her side, and despite the backlash, she knew that what they had was real. But as the months passed, Y/N couldn’t shake the lingering guilt that came with how their relationship started. She had fallen for Austin, but she couldn’t forget the way it had all begun—with a breakup, and with her hesitations clouded by his persistence.
Still, as she sat next to him, watching the sunset from their balcony, she couldn’t deny the love she felt. The journey had been messy, complicated, and full of challenges, but for now, they had each other. And that, Y/N hoped, would be enough.
It wasn’t long before Kaia Gerber made her feelings about the situation known. After weeks of radio silence, she finally sat down for a highly-anticipated interview with a prominent entertainment magazine. It was no secret that the breakup had been hard on her, and the timing of Austin’s new relationship with Y/N L/N didn’t go unnoticed.
The world had seen Austin move on almost immediately, and now, Kaia had the opportunity to share her side. Sitting across from the interviewer, Kaia looked poised and composed. Her eyes, however, told a different story—they were full of pain and bitterness, remnants of a heartbreak that was still fresh.
"First of all, I want to say that I have no ill will toward Austin. He’s an amazing person, and I’ll always cherish the time we had together," she began, her voice soft but firm. "But the way everything happened… it was unexpected."
The interviewer leaned forward, eager for more. “You mean Austin moving on so quickly?” Kaia nodded, her lips pressed into a thin line. “Yes. I think it’s hard for anyone when someone you care about moves on so fast. We had our issues, like any couple, but I didn’t expect things to end the way they did.” She paused, clearly measuring her words carefully.
"When Austin and I were together, I thought we were on the same page. I really believed in us, but I started noticing things changing, especially during the time he was working on that movie with Y/N." Kaia looked down, as if reliving painful memories. "I didn’t want to believe it at first, but it became clear that his feelings were shifting. There was a lot of time spent on set, and I trusted him, you know? I thought it was just work, but clearly, it wasn’t." The interviewer’s eyes widened.
“So, you’re saying something was going on between Austin and Y/N while you were still together?” Kaia hesitated, then gave a sad smile. “I don’t know for sure, but let’s just say the timeline is… suspicious. You don’t go from being in love with someone to suddenly being with someone else overnight. I think there was more going on than I realized.”
As the interview went on, Kaia started to tweak the narrative, blurring the lines between fact and fiction. She knew she was walking a fine line, but bitterness had a way of distorting things, and she wanted the world to understand her side, even if it meant bending the truth.
"Look, I’m not saying that Y/N was the reason for our breakup," she said, her tone careful. "But I do think her presence in Austin’s life played a role in how quickly things fell apart. It’s hard not to feel like you were replaced." She sighed, her voice growing softer, more vulnerable. “I wasn’t just losing Austin; I was losing a part of myself. We shared so much, and then suddenly, it was like I didn’t matter anymore.” The interviewer nodded sympathetically, clearly hooked by Kaia’s version of events.
"That must have been incredibly difficult, especially since Austin and Y/N have been so public with their relationship now." Kaia’s smile turned bitter. "Yeah, it’s been hard seeing them together, especially when everything happened so fast. It makes you question a lot of things about your relationship, and yourself." And then came the final blow—the part where Kaia really let her bitterness seep through.
“I just hope they’re being honest with themselves. Relationships that start the way theirs did don’t always last. I wish them the best, but… well, time will tell.”
The interview hit the internet like a storm. Kaia’s words were everywhere, from entertainment blogs to social media, and the public quickly took sides once again. Fans who had already been critical of Y/N and Austin’s relationship now had more fuel for their fire. Some took to Twitter, accusing KC of being a "homewrecker," while others praised Kaia for her grace in handling the situation. The comments poured in, dissecting every word of Kaia’s interview, with some even speculating that there had been an emotional affair between Austin and Y/N long before he broke up with Kaia.
But there were also those who defended Y/N, pointing out that Kaia was twisting the narrative to paint herself as the victim. "If Austin wasn’t happy, that’s not Y/N’s fault," one user tweeted. "Kaia needs to move on and stop playing the blame game." The gossip sites ran wild with the story, plastering headlines like: “Kaia Gerber Hints at Emotional Affair Between Austin Butler and Y/N L/N” and “Kaia Gerber Shades Austin and Y/N in Emotional Interview—Truth or Jealousy?” Y/N tried to stay away from the noise, but it was impossible to avoid. Every time she opened her phone, there it was—articles, comments, and endless speculation.
It hurt, more than she wanted to admit. She had always been careful, trying to do the right thing, and now she was being dragged through the mud. Austin, on the other hand, was furious. He couldn’t believe that Kaia would go on record and twist things to make Y/N look bad. He hated that Y/N was being blamed for something that was never her fault.
“We need to set the record straight,” Austin told Y/N one night, pacing the floor of her apartment. “This is getting out of hand.” Y/N shook her head, tired and overwhelmed. “I don’t know if it’s worth it, Austin. People are going to believe what they want to believe.”
“I don’t care what they believe,” he shot back, his voice full of frustration. “You don’t deserve this. I can’t let her get away with making you look like the bad guy.” Y/N sighed, rubbing her temples. “I knew this would happen. I knew people would blame me, no matter what.” Austin stopped pacing and sat down beside her, taking her hands in his. “This isn’t your fault, Y/N/N. I was the one who ended things with Kaia because it wasn’t working anymore. You and I… this didn’t happen the way she’s making it sound.” Y/N leaned into him, feeling the weight of everything pressing down on her.
“I just don’t want to make things worse.”
Despite Y/N’s reluctance, Austin couldn’t stay silent. A few days after Kaia’s interview, he posted a lengthy message on Instagram, addressing the rumors head-on.
"I’ve always tried to keep my personal life private, but recent events have made it necessary for me to speak out. I want to clarify that my relationship with Kaia ended because we were no longer in a place where we could grow together. There was no overlap, no betrayal. I care deeply for Kaia and always will, but the narrative that’s being pushed is unfair and inaccurate. Y/N L/N has been nothing but kind, respectful, and supportive throughout this entire process. Our relationship started after my breakup with Kaia, and it’s important to me that people understand this. Please respect both Y/N and Kaia’s privacy as we all move forward." The post received mixed reactions, as expected.
Some applauded Austin for defending Y/N, while others continued to criticize the situation. Kaia, for her part, didn’t respond directly, but her silence was telling.
As the weeks passed, the frenzy around Y/N and Austin’s relationship slowly began to die down, though the scars of the public scrutiny lingered. Y/N had learned to navigate the storm, leaning on Austin for support, but the shadow of Kaia’s words still followed her.
One day, as Y/N and Austin sat in a quiet café, far away from the flashing lights of Hollywood, she looked at him and asked, “Do you think this will ever stop?” Austin smiled softly, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. “It’ll die down. People always move on to the next story.” Y/N nodded, though she wasn’t entirely convinced. But as she looked into Austin’s eyes, she realized that despite everything—the rumors, the backlash, the guilt—she had found something real. It wasn’t perfect, and it wasn’t easy, but it was theirs.
The constant noise was finally too much for Y/N to bear. She had tried to remain quiet, hoping that the rumors and gossip would fade away on their own. But the endless comments, the judgment, and Kaia’s twisting of the truth were beginning to affect not only her relationship with Austin but her own peace of mind. After Austin’s public statement, things had calmed down, but they hadn’t disappeared completely. Kaia’s fans continued to twist the narrative, casting Y/N as the villain in a story she had never wanted to be part of.
Y/N sat at her desk one evening, scrolling through another flood of messages and articles about her relationship. Her heart felt heavy, and she knew it was time. Time to set the record straight. Time to speak up, not just for herself, but for Austin, for their relationship, and for the truth. She opened her laptop, took a deep breath, and began to write.
Y/N’s Post The next day, Y/N’s post went live on Instagram. It was a simple black-and-white photo of her and Austin, standing side by side, holding hands. But it wasn’t the picture that caught everyone’s attention—it was the caption.
"I’ve always been someone who believes in keeping my personal life private, but recent events have made it necessary for me to address some of the rumors and false narratives that have been circulating. First and foremost, I want to say that I have the utmost respect for everyone involved, including Kaia. However, there has been a lot said about my relationship with Austin that isn’t true, and I feel it’s important to clarify what really happened. When Austin and I began working together, we developed a friendship—a genuine, supportive friendship. At the time, Austin was still in a relationship, and I respected that. I had no intention of coming between anyone. Our connection was professional and nothing more. When Austin made the decision to end his relationship with Kaia, it was because they were no longer in a place where they could grow together. I had nothing to do with that decision, nor did I interfere in their relationship.
Austin and I only began dating after his breakup. I understand that it’s easy for people to create a narrative based on timing, but I want to be clear: there was no overlap, no betrayal, no dishonesty. I respect Kaia, but I also need to respectfully address the fact that the narrative she shared was not entirely accurate. It’s difficult when emotions are involved, and I understand that breakups are hard. But it’s unfair to paint a picture that isn’t true. I hope this clears things up and allows everyone to move forward in a way that’s respectful and kind. Relationships are complicated, and none of us are perfect, but the truth is important. Thank you to everyone who has supported us through this, and I hope that we can all move on from here with understanding and empathy.”
The Internet’s Reaction Y/N’s post was met with an immediate wave of responses. Her words were calm, measured, and respectful, but they cut through the noise with precision. For the first time, the internet seemed to pause and take notice of the truth, rather than the sensationalized version of events.
Fans flooded the comments, praising Y/N for her honesty and grace.
“Finally, someone said it with class. Respect to you, Y/N.”
“You didn’t owe anyone this, but thank you for clearing things up. People need to stop making assumptions.”
“Kaia needs to let go. This isn’t Y/N’s fault, and she handled it with so much respect.”
Even those who had been skeptical before started to shift their perspectives. The overwhelming consensus was that Y/N had done the right thing by speaking up and that her respectful call-out of Kaia’s skewed narrative was the final word on the matter. On Twitter, the hashtags #Team Y/N and #RespectTheTruth began trending, and even gossip sites that had fueled the drama started to backtrack, running stories about how Y/N had handled the situation with dignity. The internet had finally shifted, and the storm that had been swirling around Y/N and Austin began to die down. People moved on, and the relationship that had been under such intense scrutiny was finally given space to breathe.
Austin couldn’t have been prouder of Y/N. When he read her post, he felt an overwhelming sense of relief and admiration. She had handled everything with such poise, and now the world could see her for who she truly was—a strong, kind, and honest person who had simply fallen in love.
Later that evening, they sat together on the couch in Y/N’s apartment, the quiet of the moment a stark contrast to the chaos of the past few months. Austin wrapped his arm around her, pulling her close, his heart full of gratitude. “I’m so proud of you,” he whispered, kissing her temple softly. “You didn’t have to do that, but you did it with so much grace.” Y/N smiled, resting her head on his shoulder.
“I just couldn’t let the lies keep going. I wanted people to understand what really happened, without all the drama.”
“And they do now,” Austin said, his voice full of conviction. “You’ve always been strong, Y/N, but this… this was something else.” She looked up at him with love in her eyes. “We’ve been through a lot, haven’t we?” Austin nodded, leaning down to press a gentle kiss to her lips. “Yeah, we have. But we’re still here. And that’s what matters.” As they sat in the peaceful quiet of the evening, Y/N felt a sense of closure wash over her. The public drama, the whispers, the judgment—it was all behind them now. They had made it through the storm, and they were stronger for it. Austin’s hand found hers, and they sat there, side by side, knowing that no matter what came next, they were in this together.
A/N: Hope y'all liked it. Again no hate to Kaia she's gorgeous and all her glory and one lucky girlie. Feel free to comment, like and reblog. I'm taking request so don't be shy 😘💋.

so throughout your comic i've noticed this trend in your art style, where the lineart switches colors
i think its really interesting and im wondering, how exactly do you do it? like, is it solely just for aesthetic or is there a more practical purpose for it?
idk i just think it looks cool and wanna know your thoughts on it :3
OHOHOHO I like this question >:3
So basically the way to do it is just to put a masking layer over the lineart layer and color in where you want the lines to be colored:
and it basically will only color where the lineart is drawn :D
The reason I do it is because when I draw humans, I typically make the nose, ears, fingertips, elbows, shoulders, etc. more red/pinkish and if I am doing lineart I typically like the lineart to match the area :)
When it comes to the turtles, I sometimes add pink/red undertones to their fingers/toes/etc, so I will also color the lines accordingly.
I also just like the way it looks, it makes the comic feel more finished to me :) Especially after adding the gradient map, it makes certain parts of the comic pop out and I really like that
TLDR: It's a habit from drawing humans and I like the way it looks :D

What is that people don't understand about Barky?
eh i think it's less that he's misunderstood as it's.... idk. that he flies very under the radar by choice and tends to be overshadowed by flashier personalities. on purpose. i guess if there's one thing i'd say — with the caveat that none of us know the guy personally! — i don't really think he's shy at all, which is how he was described a TON when he was younger. he speaks when he has something to say and has always had yappers in the leadership group to balance things out lmao. but he's so funny!!! and tbh the older he gets the more he lets his personality show on camera i think lol
i, a longtime nicke enthusiast, am used to basically all of this and even drawn to these traits, and therefore voraciously consume every longform sasha interview/piece that is available to me in order to kind of get a grasp on what makes the guy tick. here are a few of my favorites + a few highlight videos for fun!
SASHA MINI PRIMER ⬇️ aka an incomplete but lovingly curated collection of required reading/videos/essential moments below the cut!!!
📰 Sushi With Sasha: Barkov jests that all being captain really means is, “I have to open my mouth sometimes.” [...] The fact Barkov cracks wise about his quiet ways, though, is in line with a defining characteristic — knowing how to pick your spots, both with the puck and one-liners. “Yeah, that’s exactly it,” says Pittsburgh Penguins defenceman and fellow Finn Olli Maatta. “Definitely not the loudest guy in the room, but when you get to know him he has almost like a sneaky sense of humour.”
🎥 32 Thoughts: Barkov Reminisces About Panthers Magical Playoff Run (he is so cute in this. hair fluffy. smiley. sweet.)
📰 Q&A: Sasha Barkov is home in Finland and discusses his love of chicken wings, Jaromir Jagr and the Miami Heat: How fast does that car go? Well, 65 is the speed limit, right? So, 66. But I think it would hit 200 if you really pushed it.
🎥 Aleksander Barkov Shootout Goals But They Get Increasingly More Impressive (what it says on the tin)
📰 The NHL’s new Patrice Bergeron? Panthers’ Aleksander Barkov fits the bill — ‘He does everything right: Affable as always, Barkov, despite his short offseason, looked noticeably more jacked than he’d even been during the Panthers’ tremendous playoff run. He smiled and extended his hand before discussing his motivation to captain the Panthers back to the spot that had been so grueling to get to in the first place.
📰 Barkov Keeps His Cool: It’s right after one of those long days of work at the rink in November that Barkov, known better around the locker room as “Sasha,” has me on his car’s speakerphone as he works to traverse through a bit of traffic around rush hour. In the background, vehicles can be heard zooming and honking around him. But just like he does on the ice, the Panthers captain is keeping his cool. As he maneuvers through congestion with his foot tap dancing on the pedal, he doesn’t talk much about his extension, but rather of the first time he attempted to traverse the highways of South Florida as a fresh-faced, 18-year-old hockey prodigy during his rookie season in 2013.
🎙️/ 🎥 The Hockey PDOcast Episode: Aleksander Barkov's Defensive Impact and How He Does It (analysis of barkov as a player with accompanying video clips)
🎥 Panthers Celebrate Captain Aleksander Barkov (this video is so fucking funny to me because joe t.hornton just talks for ten seconds about how big sasha is. which. yeah real.)
📰 Dwyane Wade crashes into fan at Heat game -- Panthers star Aleksander Barkov: Barkov said he would like to see Wade at a Panthers game this season. The Panthers play at BB&T Center in Sunrise, which is 35 miles north of AmericanAirlines Arena, where the Heat play. Barkov predicted Wade would get a standing ovation from Panthers fans and said he wouldn't let boards stop him from trying to see Wade during that game. "I'll try my best to fly over him," Barkov said.
🎥 Ask Me Anything | Aleksander Barkov (this is where he says his dream golf quartet is his ex bf his current work wife and his dilf mentor)
📰 Q&A with Sasha Barkov: Fast cars, Miami sports and his first move as NHL commish: Yeah, the palm trees were cool and he really liked the ocean. But he also liked to drive. To do that, he needed to head to the DMV and get himself a Florida driver’s license. “I don’t have a car but I have the license,” Barkov said during his first training camp with the Panthers in 2013. “I failed the first time because I didn’t understand the questions.”
🎥 Laine and Barkov go to town on Finnish chicken wings (literally just a minute long video of them eating chicken wings LOL)
🎥 ALEKSANDER BARKOV VS. PAVEL BARBER | HockeyShot Shootout Challenge! (silly trickshot video... fans throw rats at sasha and he's like thank you :D... it's like an artificial sheet on the beach, sasha is very cute)
#meg.askbox#meg.recs#aleksander barkov#sasha barkov#panthers#btw nicke enjoyers are sasha enjoyers the venn diagram is a circle

Walter Marshal -Shibari
Description: Walter had a bad day, you are always there to help
TW: Shibari? afab reader? uh idk?
“Pick a colour.”
Your attention is drawn away from your book as Walter’s baritone voice echoes through the hallway. Heavy, tired footsteps creak against the wooden floors of your shared home, stepping closer to where you were curled up on the couch. “Walt, is everything alright?”
You twist in your seat, nearly toppling off the couch to get a better look at your boyfriend. Book discarded aside immediately, you peek over the ledge of the couch tentatively. Walter stood in the entryway to the living room, several bundles of colored rope held tightly in his grasp as he awaited your response with a quirked brow. Normally you would push for more information, but the tense way he holds his shoulders and the tight lines that bracket his mouth and marr his forehead tell you everything you need to know - he needs your compliance and undivided attention.
You weigh your options carefully, opting for the midnight blue colored rope as you know he likes that one best.
“Blue please.” You say between a smile. A brief sigh of relief passes Walter’s lips as he makes his way over to the couch, unwinding the bundle once he settles alongside you. Silently, you slip to the floor on your knees, nestled between his strong legs.
The room remains silent as Walter begins to methodically wind the cord around your torso, taking note of the way it clings to your curves, and tugs just ever slightly at the silky flesh. Occasionally he runs a finger along your flesh, watching with bated breath as your skin breaks out in goosebumps. You are always so responsive, just exactly what he needs at this moment.
“Give me your arms.” His voice seems less gruff as you comply, allowing him to fold your arms behind your back, which he also loops the rope around, knotting carefully as he goes along. You hold back a smile as you feel the heat of his breath trail along your neck, a soft curl tickling the top of your ear. “Nice and snug, my love.” He breathes out, tugging at a knot that secures your wrists together. He tests out the strength of his ties, making sure he can safely tuck a finger or two between you and the rope, and checking to make sure no skin is losing color or feeling. It’s tender how much attention he pours into his work, checking each and every loop to satisfaction. And with each and every tug, every caress and touch your mind grows hazy and quiet, barely able to notice the satisfied hum that reverberates through his chest as he pulls away to admire his job. “That’s my good girl, come here”
With that, you lean against his strong legs as he turns on the television. He’s content to have you near, fully at his will.
Bonus: Absentmindedly his fingers wind around a tendril of hair at your neck, mindlessly twirling it around his finger as you two settle against each other.

Hello! ✨
So… hear me out: Nico with a monster reader.
Like imagine he is sent out to defeat him but turns out he’s good and super like chill and relaxed.
Like imagine he goes in and suddenly he is sat down drinking tea and chatting about the weather.
Lol.
So nico sneak him in the camp covered in mist and when asked goes like *cue it’s a smoothie meme* “just found him… nothing weird here”
And if ppl discover the reader is a monster he like defends him like totally?
Like I imagine he’d love a reader that’s like maybe half snake? Idk. ‘Cause I think he finds snakes cute.
Maybe not a harpy or fury (is it called like that? I’m not sure)
Leo could totally pull the same stuff too. Maybe Percy too.
Jason totally not.
What do you think?
You can just answer to this as thoughts in need of an opinion and not a request if u want to/feel uncomfy writing this kind of reader.
Ps: loved the Dionysus one. Love love love it!
Kisses and enjoy that smoothie!
Love this idea, it was so fun to write and off I went a little overboard it's like 3.1k words so production is delayed but whatevs. It was a bit harder to write a totally general reader because of the monster thing but I think it worked. And if figured out that I tend to write character x readers from the perspective of the character requested too.

Chocolate cream and iced honeycomb---Nico di Angelo x Monster Reader
»»————- ★ ———
“RACHGAA!”
“AHGHGHAAAA!” Nico snarled back at the sandy green snake.
It reared back a fraction, unblinking eyes narrowed at him as its thin tongue flickered in and out. Nico just stuck his tongue back out at the Ceraste, a horned viper. It would have been an easy fight, if it wasn’t for the fact that Ceraste grew to be about as big as an alligator.
It bowed to him, but that wasn’t a good thing. Two sets of horns, sharp and spiked, glimmered in the afternoon sunshine as Nico stood his ground, Stygian iron sword ready. “I have other monsters to kill, could we make this quick?”
Mortals around them just whispered behind their hands and kept walking, ignoring the battle to the death in the middle of the street. They probably just saw Nico walking an especially spiky and greek dog. He imagined the Ceraste as a poodle for a moment, and then stepped to the side and swung his sword quickly, blocking the violent jab in his direction.
“You’re supposed to be cute,” Nico hissed at it, stomping down hard on its tail and prodding at the light scales flecked with brown. Blood dripped almost instantly. Its scales were as tough as a normal snakes was, and he took advantage of that. Next time it circled, and shot out with lightning speed, shadows creating an arc through the warm summer air as Nico lashed out.
There was the sound of tearing skin, and a disgustingly drawn out squelch, that ended with a thud.
Nico kept his eyes squeezed shut until he could wipe the blood off his face, and then stared down at the decapitated ancient reptile. Blood and guts squished into the road, which he had to stomp on a few times before they melted into gold and ran down the drains in the rubbish filled gutters.
“Uhh,” Nico muttered, flapping his hand about until the sticky dark blood wasn’t on him anymore. “I need a drink.”
He glanced around the bustling New York street, spotting a hippie cafe that wouldn’t have anything stronger than a matcha tea, and a starbucks. A Mcdonalds not in sight, and at least another hour of tracking the final monster ahead of him, Nico opened the door to the busy starbucks.
As he stood in line behind someone with their hair in a dark bun, and two teenage girls wearing strawberry dresses, he unfolded the piece of paper with instructions for his mission. His target was supposed to be around this district, but Chiron wasn’t sure where exactly. Nico was sent to do the dirty work, because apparently nobody else wanted to see the light drain from something's eyes when they could be finding more demigods or retrieving lost items.
Monsters had been attacking demigods before they were in danger. Last week an eight year old Iris boy had showed up to camp with half a leg left, and the attacks had only grown in numbers.
Apart from being around this place, the only thing in common with the spike of violence, was the scales and thin tongues. A few Hydra's, Echidna the she-dragon had made another appearance, and of course, the multitudes of Ceraste.
Nico had just killed four of them, but there were more to come and more demigods in danger unless he found the source. Chiron had his theories, of course, but far-fetched was the idea that one of the snake footed giants had risen from the earth again. Glycon was an option of course, but Nico doubted it was him.
The queue had disappeared, standing around on the other side of the cafe as they waited for their orders, save one person, who was ordering an ‘iced honeycomb caramel latte’. The boy brushed his hair over his shoulder and turned to look out the window, then back to where he was paying for his latte.
Nico followed his gaze, watching with dread as the previously dead snake was hissing by the window. Hissing right next to him as well.
Nico turned slowly, hand on the hilt of his dark sword, but he was only met with the face of a small green python watching him curiously, big eyes shining underneath the bright lights of the cafe. He smiled back at it, immensely confused.
Then the little snake was pulled away and wrapped up into a writhing green ponytail of scales and little puppy-like reptilian faces, flickering tongues and toothless mouths.
“Is your boyfriend gonna order, or…”
Nico blinked out of his snake induced trance and whipped around to where the girl behind the counter was blinking tiredly at him.
The boy next to Nico stuffed change into his pockets and shook his head. The head the snakes were attached to, that was. The boy's eyes were covered by circular black glasses. He smiled. “Oh, I don’t know the emo.”
“I…” Nico started, eyes wide as he took what, or rather who, he was seeing. A gorgon. A real life teenage medusa [and a cute one at that], was standing in the middle of a starbucks, snakes tied back with yet another of the small pythons. He blinked a few times and cleared his throat, turning back to the cashier. “I’ll have one of the chocolate cream… frappuccinos, please.”
“Coming right up,” the cashier muttered, typing into their ipad and then motioning for him to move to the other side of the counter. Where the monster was.
The monster that Nico was starting to suspect he’d have to kill.
»»————- ★ ————-««
“There you go. Have a great day.”
“Thanks,” Nico muttered back just as enthusiastically, and took his drink. He was still holding the hilt of his sword, heart pounding as loud as his footsteps as he stomped away. Was he supposed to find the lair of this teenage boy? Was he immortal? Was there any point killing him if he’d just pop up again? What was Nico going to do?
He didn’t have a drachma on him to call camp and ask Chiron what he should do, and to be honest, he wouldn’t have listened to whatever instruction he was given anyway.
The straw was pulled from his mouth as he was yanked sideways.
Something scratchy brushed his arm, and his middle was grabbed tightly. The breath left his lungs and the world blurred for a moment. Then he gasped, drink flying out of his hand, and landed in a booth on the red leather with a yelp. “What the-”
“Hello, pretty boy.”
Nico stared for a moment, heart racing. The boy [monster. He was a monster, not a person. There was a difference. Maybe] sat on the other side of the booth with a grin, latte in hand. His nails were painted green.
Nico noticed this as he gestured to the side, where the Ceraste he had just killed sat coiled up next to the table like a dog waiting for its owner. The sharp horns on its head looked a lot less threatening now that there was a pink scrunchie around one of them. “This is Keith, say hi, Keith.”
“RACHGAA!”
“What-”
“Ssso like, I'm just getting this straight, if you’re gonna kill me, just say that now.” The boy said, leaning forward with his hands pressed together and an easy smirk. “Because I havent been killed yet and I'm not going to Tartarusss anytime soon.”
He glanced towards Keith with a serious expression. “You sssaw what happened to Jeremy.”
Kieth’s tongue flickered in and out once. He seemed to take it as an agreement. Nico’s hand left his hilt as he spoke, even though he had no control of the situation and there was a tensed up snake by his feet. “What would you do if I was going to kill you?”
“Keep you asss an ornament in my Auntie Em’s garden.” He said, and Nico felt his legs swinging under the table. He put his chin on the palm of his hand. “You’re very pretty.”
Nico wasn’t sure which part of the conversation he should be worried about at this point. He didn’t really want to become a statue, but his stomach was filled with a pit of snakes and he was more worried that this gorgon could see the blush on his face through his black tinted glasses. He ended up blinking, a bit stunned.
“That was a joke, holy Hadesss you’re a wet mop of a person, aren’t you.”
“You’re the one with the mop head.” Nico snapped back with a sharp glare. That might not have been the right thing to say though, judging by the way one of the pythons sitting on the boy's shoulder wilted a little, ducking its soft looking head.
It got a pat on the head. “Don’t listen to him noodle, he didn’t mean it.”
Nico looked at the little green snake. Somehow it looked like it was smiling at him, but that could’ve just been the shape of its mouth. “...Sorry Noodle.”
“Noodle saysss thank you.”
Nico looked down at the floor, where his drink was now a brown puddle surrounded by broken shards of plastic. He glanced back up, squinting at the wriggling pythons that were no longer in a pony [snake?] tail. “Can you actually, you know…”
“Noodle says that Becky said Loch Nessss likes your earringsss, but they think you could do something with your hair.”
“What’s wrong with my hair?” Nico scoffed, wrinkling his nose. Did his hair look bad? “It looks fine.”
“Don’t asssk me, ask Loch Ness,” he got in reply, then another smirk. Nico’s stomach rolled again, but it didn’t feel necessarily bad. What on Olympus was that supposed to mean? “And I reckon your hair’s pretty as isss.”
A moment passed, and Nico got the feeling he was being assessed. The boy opposite him sniffed once, and Nico wondered if he smelled like snake guts. That couldn’t be a very good look. “You’re a big three, aren’t you… Wait, no, let me guessss… Poseidon.”
Nico raised an eyebrow.
“That was a joke, if you couldn’t tell.”
“I figured.” He muttered, watching in slight disgust as Keith started to lick the chocolate cream frappuccino off the grimy tiles. “And you?”
“Daughter of Aphrodite.”
“That was a-”
“Joke. You’re catching on, pretty boy.” He grinned, and Nico noticed with a gulp that two of his teeth were sharpened and pearly white. Fangs. He shrugged, chin on his hands. “I honestly have no idea though, I dunno how I’m here. Maybe I sprouted out of her head like that flying horse did.”
“Why are you sending monsters to kill-”
“I wasss just tryna divert the attention, okay? That corpse wasssn’t my fault-” He started, waving his hand in the air to prove his point. ONe of the snakes, maybe noodle, twisted around a few times, tongue flickering out. Nico swore another one with a scar down its scaly spine rolled its soft brown eyes.
“What corpse?”
“No corpssse. I dunno what you’re on about, no one died.” He said quickly, taking a long loud sip of his drink, ice clinking. After a moment he sighed and looked down at the chipped nail polish on his hands. “Some demigod dude, ugh there's ssso many of you, gods must be like rabbits or something. Anyways, one of them found me and I diverted the attention, so I’d get another few weeksss.”
“Another few weeks of…?”
“Life. I mean, I can hide easily, but I already spent a month in San Fransisssco being chased by pitchforksss and metal dogs, and I didn't get Ssstarbucks for like, years, otherwise sssomeone would just pop out with a spear and stabby stabby no more Gabby.”
The scarred snake drooped sadly a little, slinking back into the writhing mass. Nico shook his head quickly. “Camp Half-Blood’s not like that. And I can use the mist.”
“What, you just gonna follow me around New York waving your handsss about for the rest of your life?” He chuckled, swirling his plastic cup around a few times and taking another sip.
“No, you can come back with me.”
Nico wasn’t even sure when he’d come up with the plan, but there was something about his smirk and his nail polish and his stupid jokes and the puppy-like python faces swirling around him that made Nico wince when he imagined him sleeping on the streets fighting off Romans.
“Why should I do that?”
“I…” Nico faltered. What reason did he really have? “I dunno.”
He bounced up, snakes swinging. Keith looked up from the puddle on the ground and shook its tail excitedly, like it knew what was happening already. Maybe this teenage gorgon really could mind control the ancient reptiles.
“Sssweet, let’s go!”
»»————- ★ ————-««
“Ssso you’re like, completely sure I won’t be decapitated on sight?”
Nico paused, turning away from the gap in the shrubbery at the base of Half-Blood hill. He’d been watching as demigods slowly trickled into the dining pavilion, cabins regrouping for dinner and burning meals. He couldn’t promise this [really cute] boy that he’d be safe here, but Nico could promise that he’d protect him from any especially violent and biased Ares kids.
“If anyone tries to hurt you I won’t let their siblings visit them in the underworld.”
Nico had to look away again, red faced as he did that thing again, leaning forwards with his hand under his chin and his lips quirked up. “How romantic.”
“I- uh…” Nico choked, and then turned back to the now empty strip of green and strawberry plants, finally letting out a tense breath. “If we go now, I can hide you in my cabin until I guilt trip Chiron into letting me keep you.”
“And Keith.”
“And Keith,” he sighed. One more check to see if the coast was clear, and he slunk out of the bushes, pebbles crunching underneath his boots. He grabbed his new Starbucks [he’d been bought a new one as an apology for nearly being killed by Keith] and waved frantically behind him. “Hurry up, we gotta move.”
There was a scuffling, and then the slick sound of scales moving as the Ceraste followed them past the big house and down to the campfire. The flames were a humming orange, burning brightly in the dusk. It was summer, the mood was always high as campers came from school back to their families and friends.
“Okay, so like, where are you friendsss? Do you have friendsss?”
“Do you?” Nico shot back with a glare, keeping an eye on the open door of the Hermes cabin, but there was no movement inside, except for the pegasus that was chewing on someone's pillow.
“Yup! Noodle and Becky and Loch Nessss and Keith and Gabby and Fruit-”
“Yes…” Nico whispered back, rolling his eyes, but when he turned a little, Loch Ness [how could he already tell them apart?] was flicking its little black tongue at him, gummy mouth wide. “I have friends.”
“Great, isss that them?”
“...What.”
Nico whipped around, stepping in front of the boy he was currently smuggling with his hand on the hilt of his sword. Keith rattled its tail and hissed, neck arched. Nico wasn’t sure who was approaching them, the figures covered by the shadow of the Iris cabin. He kept his voice low, “the mist, we have to cover you.”
“Can you use the missst?” He whispered back loudly, over the nervous hissing around him.
“Of course I can use the mist,” Nico said. Then he realized something and gritted his teeth, face red. “But, just on me, unless I’m… you know…”
“Nope. I don’t know.” He said simply, and Nico turned away, grabbing his hand very quickly and closing his eyes for a moment, eyebrows pinched in concentration. Nico tried to focus on the magic he was weaving through the air and not the weirdly smooth skin of the hand he was holding, and if his own was sweaty or not.
When he opened them, the boy beside him was blinking with foggy looking dark green eyes that matched the snakes now covered by a dark hood. The only thing still him was that stupid smirk. “Did it work?”
“Yeah,” Nico’s voice wavered, and his grip tightened. “Okay, now act normal, they're coming over.”
“I’m not normal?”
“Nico, don’t be rude!” Hazel told him off, a gentle smile on her face anyway. Her hands were in the pockets of a large purple jumper, arm threaded through Franks. He waved nervously at Nico, like he still wasn’t sure he wasn’t about to kill him via skeletons. Hazel turned to the currently covered by mist boy. “Sorry about h-”
She squinted as a door slammed near the big three cabins. Nico’s hand was definitely too tight as his sister stared down the boy next to him. She licked her lips, “why is he covered by the mist, Nico?”
He had almost forgotten she was chosen by Hecate, goddess of the mist. Almost, but not quiet. He ducked his head. “Er, so you don’t… kill him?”
“I prefer to stay out of Tartarusss actually, I heard it smellsss pretty bad down there-”
“You can’t even imagine.”
Nico froze. Oh, could this get any worse? He sighed and turned to Percy, hoping his fingernails weren’t leaving indents in the smooth skin he was clutching. His other hand was cold from the icy drink he was holding.
Percy grinned obliviously, “who got there?”
“...Starbucks.”
“Ha ha,” Hazel muttered, raising an eyebrow. Nico nodded, pretending he was laughing too, and then sped past them, dragging along the hidden gorgon to the Hades cabin, who waved happily as they left the group.
Frank shuffled, “isn’t there a two demigods not allowed alone in a cabin rule?”
Nico groaned internally. Why did he have to word the [snitchy] question in such a way? He knew what he was going to see before he even turned to the shortly disguised boy next to him. He sighed and nodded, letting go of his hand and taking a long sip of his drink as he watched the chaos go down.
“Good thing I’m not a demigod!”
Hazel’s expression didn’t shift, she’d seen right through the magic at the very start. She’d seen the coils of scales and the circular black glasses, the strangely smooth skin somewhere between human and snake. She might’ve even seen the tiny fangs. Frank stepped back behind his girlfriend a little, his eyes wide.
Percy visibly paled, and then gulped. “Oh.”
“No hard feelingsss man. You gotta do what you gotta do.”
Nico watched his gorgon for a moment and then smiled a little. He turned back to the gravel path leading to his cabin. “You ready? There’s a lot of skulls, just warning you.”
“Wait til you ssssee my place."

I saw you might accept tiny drabble reqs for Wanderer?
What about Sethos, Traveler, or even Childe (if you wanna go Scaramouche) finding a "malfunction" in his body that when triggered immediately causes a sneeze/sneeze fit, no matter what. Could be tweaking a certain mechanism, could be a surge of elemental energy (specific element or not), could be dragging a touch in a specific line or rythym along his face/nose?
Might suck idk
this went through so many rewrites that i felt like i was bordering on losing it entirely. i cut off a huge chunk of words cause i just couldn't figure out how to conclude it through that route. maybe i'll reuse it for a different fic later....
anyways. i took creative liberties when it came to what the "malfunction" was hope u don't mind-
"Hh'InKkyYSHhii!"
A particularly strong breeze ruffled Sethos' hair as he startled, almost dropping the cat in his arms as he spun around to stare at the Wanderer, who had been standing behind him. Of all the responses Sethos' could've gotten to off-handedly comparing the other to the cute little kitten in his arms, he hadn't been expecting that.
It was obvious the Wanderer hadn't been expecting it either, if the startled and slightly hazy look on his face was any indication. Sethos opened his mouth to ask- and was interrupted before he could even begin as the Wanderer snapped forwards with two more drawn out sneezes, the resulting pulses of anemo making the loose edges of his clothes flutter.
"HihH'KksShHnii! Hh-heEH-hH'iikKSHyhn-tii!" The Wanderer pressed the back of his hand against his nose, rubbing it for a moment before stopping and just letting his hand rest there, pressed against his nose.
"Woah, are you okay? Those sound way worse than normal." Sethos finally managed to ask- and, as he sort of predicted, the Wanderer responded to that by glaring at him.
"Tch, I'm fine." The Wanderer's voice also sounded different than usual, though Sethos couldn't really place his finger on what, exactly, was different. "Just ihH- ...ignore it-hH'IinNkSHhiiu!!"
"Kinda hard to ignore it when you keep doing it." Sethos said, trying to fix the strands of his hair that'd been blown out of place- and oh, now he knows why the Wanderer's voice sounded off- "You sound a bit congested- are you sick?"
"Wh- no. I-I'm not."
"Then what's up with you?"
"It's just- hH-hiH-.... a-a cat allergy."
"...A cat allergy." Sethos deadpanned, glancing down at the cat in his arms to see if it was believing this complete bullshit before looking back up at the Wanderer, who avoided his eyes.
"What, do you need me to... to repeat it?" The Wanderer rubbed slightly more intensely at his nose, clearly trying to hold back another sneeze.
"No no no, it's just- well, I've seen you hanging out with cats before, and there's never been any-"
"HhiH'KkyYSHhii! Fuck!" The Wanderer swore, before rapidly turning and starting to hurriedly walk away from Sethos.
"Wait, hey! Where are you going?!"
"None of your business!"
~
Over the past three days, Sethos had come to collect a mental list of the Wanderer's supposed 'allergies'. Cats, dust, Sumeru roses, a passerby's perfume, and... sand.
Sethos took issue with that last one specifically, he was absolutely certain that one was not possible, and besides, they're in the city. Sethos has been staying in a rented room and hasn't been back to the desert in over a week- there's not even any sand here to be allergic to!
So, overall, Sethos is 99.8% sure the Wanderer is just outright lying, and should really really be resting in a bed, because he did not seem to be getting better- and the redness of his face, whenever Sethos managed to catch a good glimpse of it from under the Wanderer's hat, was just red enough to indicate a fever.
And, of course, this conclusion is what led Sethos to, at the first opportunity, grab hold of the Wanderer's arm and start practically dragging him back to the Sanctuary of Surasthana.
From the moment he grabbed hold of him, Sethos couldn't help but note that it felt like the Wanderer was shaking.
Shockingly enough, the Wanderer had stopped protesting after the first few minutes, obediently letting himself be pulled along in silence. Or, well, near silence- the Wanderer sneezing intermittently as they walked upward.
(There was also a faint sort of... whirring noise that Sethos couldn't place. He chose to ignore it for now, focusing on the Wanderer's obvious illness first).
Nahida standing at the entryway to the Sanctuary with her arms crossed wasn't much of a surprise.
Aether standing next to her in the exact same pose kinda-sorta was though.
"Hey," Aether said, sliding up between Sethos and the Wanderer, "Hand Mr. Hat Guy over to me while you explain... whatever is going on to Nahida."
After a moment, Sethos obediently handed the Wanderer over (the Wanderer himself too busy focusing on holding his breath in an attempt to keep himself from sneezing to protest), and then turned to begin to explain the situation to Nahida, not even noticing Aether leading the Wanderer off to the side.
"You have to tell him." Aether whispered, "You can't keep this up forever."
The Wanderer, still holding his breath, shook his head no.
"No as in you don't wanna tell him, or no as in you agree that you can't keep this up?"
Aether smirked as the Wanderer glared at him, before turning to pay more attention to Sethos' explanation.
"-and he keeps insisting that he's just allergic-"
"Ha, allergic to blushing maybe." Aether mumbled. The Wanderer harshly elbowed him in the chest, before snapping to the side with a sneeze.
"Hh-hIH'KksSHhyii!! HehH-" The Wanderer's wavering breath was quick to hitch again, and he hurriedly pinched his nose shut, attempting to hold his breath again. Aether noticed with some amusement that the whirring noise that had arrived with the Wanderer had just gotten considerably louder.
"Y'see!" Sethos said loudly, snapping both Aether and the Wanderer's attention back to him. "He clearly needs to be in bed!"
"I-I'm finehH-hH'iikKSHyhn-tii!! Hh'InKkyYSHhii!!"
"His room is on the right, five doors down the left hallway." Nahida said, ignoring the Wanderer's sputtered attempts at protest through hitching breaths. Sethos promptly thanked her, and wasted no time in snatching the Wanderer's wrist and dragging him into the Sanctuary. Aether walked back up to stand beside Nahida as they both watched the Wanderer willingly get led to the left and then vanish down the hallway.
"Y'know." Aether started, "I don't think he hates this treatment, as much as he's trying to make it seem otherwise. ...How long do you think until he tells him-"
"-that his systems are overreacting to being flustered, and the whirring vibration is affecting him in very unsubtle ways?" Nahida finished for him, "Hm... I'd say about a week."
"You wanna bet on it?"
"Sure!"

Hi, I have a question and you seem like a really balanced person, so here goes: I want to join a drag king collective, and I’m so excited about it, but the king leading it has some Interesting views. It’s the kind of thing where it’s constant “fuck Zionists” and what feels like extremely performative activism (Palestinian flag in bio but no actual fundraising/peace efforts, posting misinformation/irresponsible rhetoric etc.) I’m scared that if I join it I’ll be treated different, and even more scared that my friends will think the antisemitism justified (they aren’t great at understanding what antisemitism looks like these days). Idk what to do about the fear of someone being antisemitic because I don’t want it to stop me from doing what I want, but I also know it’ll devastate me if it does happen. If you can offer any insight I’ll be very grateful.
Hi friend!
I'm really glad you reached out to me. Not because I pretend to know all the answers, but because I love that we can all rely on each other during this time.
Unfortunately, whether you sign up for this is ultimately a matter of your own personal priorities and how you are prone to handle confrontation.
Personally, if it was me, I would join. I'm not afraid of defending myself (but I very much used to be, so no shame if you're not there yet). If I wanted to explore my gender identity through performance (if indeed that is what you are doing. I've never been personally drawn to perform drag, so I cannot pretend to know exactly why one might start. But I don't think I'm out of line to assume that it involves some kind of exploration or critique of gender both personally and societally) I certainly wouldn't let antisemites be the reasons I didn't go for it.
If the Anti-Zionist jerk starts coming at you, you can simply say "OK, great. Real quick question: What's a Zionist?" And watch him squirm to say anything real or substantive other than "a Jew." He might say, "They're basically Nazis!" or "They're people who want Palestinians to suffer!" or some other confidently incorrect hyperbolic statement. If he does so, you can say, "Oh! Well, then that's definitely not what I am," and move on.
If he says something slightly more substantive, like, "They're people who think Jews should get to take land from Arabs/Palestinians in order to have a Jewish ethnostate!" You can use the same response as above. But you can also say, "Oh, weird. That's definitely not what I thought it was. Which Zionist Jews have said this, exactly? Cuz I heard it was something completely different." Remember, their goal isn't actually to educate you or help anyone or even to provide limited but factual information. The goal is to shame you into aligning with their self-righteous point of view. That is not an effective tactic when you respond with QUESTIONS instead of outright CORRECTIONS. Making people explain themselves is a great way to defang a bad faith accusation like that.
Finally, they might say, "It's someone who supports Israel." In this case, either of the above methods will work. Or you could question even further. Here's an example of a chat:
You: Supports Israel how?
Jerkface: They want Biden to use our tax dollars to fund a genocide!
You: Oh, well then I'm definitely not a Zionist.
Jerkface: No, you don't understand! It's people who think that Jews can only be safe in a settler colonial apartheid ethnostate that justified its existence by crying about the Holocaust.
You: Well then I'm still not a Zionist. I don't know why you're assuming these things about me. But people should generally cry about the Holocaust. It was really bad thing that people did to Jews. Do you not think the Holocaust is a big deal?
Jerkface: Of course I think it was a big deal. That's why we all have to condemn THIS genocide. The Jews are the Nazis now.
You: I don't know. I don't think that' show Nazism works. But I definitely don't like genocide. If liking genocide makes a Zionist, then I'm definitely not whatever you're accusing me of.
Jerkface: No! I'm just saying that Zionists don't want a ceasefire. They're trying to kill all the Palestinians.
You: I don't know what to tell you then. Because that's still not me. Of course I want Hamas and Israel to both stop bombing each other.
Jerkface: No, Palestine is JUSTIFIED in bombing Israelis because of the oppression.
You: I think its weird that you're conflating Palestinians with Hamas. Are you saying that Palestinian civilians are bombing Israel as as a protest tactic? I thought for sure that Hamas, a terrorist organization, was the group responsible for Anti-Israeli violence. Personally, I've always though that most Palestinians just want to live in peace and don't support terrorism and violence. I don't know why it would harm Palestinians to suggest that both Israel and Hamas should end this conflict diplomatically rather than with violence.
Jerkface: Right! That's why we need to tell Biden to call for a ceaseefire!
You: OK, but I still don't know if you're saying Israel should just stop firing or that Israel and Hamas should stop bombing. I definitely want everyone to stop bombing each other. But I'm not really sure why Hamas would care about what Biden says.
etc...
I call this the "Rabbi method," because when you go to a rabbi, they never really give you an answer to your question. They answer with other questions designed to get them to see their own answer.
Either Hamas is a terrorist group unfairly targeting Israeli civilians and launching bombs into civilian territories--something that is clearly bad and which makes average Palestinian civilians innocent victims (this is the truth btw) that require both Hamas and Israel too lay down their arms. OR Palestinians and Hamas are interchangeable terms and the ongoing oppression of Palestinians have driven them to violent, offensive, armed resistance--which you may or may not agree with as a revolutionary tactic (To be clear, this is NOT TRUE OF PALESTINIANS. PALESTINIANS ARE NOT TERRORISTS AND DO NOT DESERVE TO BE BOMBED). Palestine IS NOT HAMAS. Hamas is bombing Israeli civilians.
Israel is retaliating with extreme force and prejudice against a terrorist organization in a way that is devastating the lives and futures of Palestinian Civilians, who very much deserve for all sides to lay down their weapons and address their mutual grievances diplomatically and responsibly. What is occurring right now is a messy, ugly, brutal war that is killing and traumatizing all civilians in the Levant. And a one-sided ceasefire leaves the side that ceases firing dead. A ceasefire means that EVERYONE must cease firing.
Unless Jerkface has a plan for how to ensure the safety of Palestinian civilians from Hamas that also includes Israeli safety from Hamas, asking for Israelis to simply lay down all their weapons without any guarantee of safety is asking for a nation of mostly Jews to die without putting up a fight. And wanting Arab Israelis and also Jews not to die is not what Zionism means. It's not even what pro-Israel means. That's just called not being violently antisemitic, actually.
Israelis aren't mindless Zionist Nazi Monsters who get off on killing Palestinian babies. Palestinians aren't Noble Savages who have never done anything wrong as individual people and who are inherently morally superior to every single Israeli because they were born Palestinian. Both Israelis and Palestinians are complex, global micro-minorities who have both perpetrated tremendous harm to one another over the course of several decades, and neither group is going anywhere. Neither group deserves for its people to die. Neither group is only "worth helping" if western onlookers categorize them as "innocent" and "good." If someone's activism isn't geared toward respecting the inherent dignity of Palestinians and Israelis regardless of either group's history, then that person is not engaging in activism. If someone is asking you to support that cause because their chosen cause involves perfect cinnamon rolls being targeted by pure evil enemies, then they are not asking you to join them in activism. They are not even asking you to join them in a political reality. What they are asking is for you to join their toxic fandom.
And reducing this conflict down to simplistic fandom rhetoric is not going to help anyone and is frankly offensive to all Jews, Israelis, and Palestinians--all of whom deserve to be seen for the traumatized, suffering, imperfect people they are.
People don't earn support by being good. They inherently deserve support, because they are people.
All that said, maybe it's not emotionally useful for you to engage in this group. Maybe this type of conflict is too much for you. That's OK, too.
And while I would never let antisemitism take away an opportunity for me to fulfill a dream, I will say that my experience of Antisemitism during this time is 100000000% responsible for making me realize that the dreams I had before this experience need to evolve. I no longer wish to be in the town where I live. I wish to be home with my family closeby, because when the chips are down, that's who matters. The idea of moving back to my home state was unthinkable to me before October. Now? I cannot get out of here fast enough. There's nothing I want that is exclusive to my current location anymore. The community I thought I'd built for myself is gone. And while antisemitism didn't take them from me, it sure as fuck showed me that I never had it in thee first place.
If you're going to join this collective, be sure its worth the fight. And if it's not worth the fight, then look for a place that is. Exploring your gender identity freely should not come at the cost of living your ethnic and religious identities openly. Ever.
Don't trade one closet for another. You deserve more than that. We all do.
hope that helps @kit-chaos-doodle

idk your aaron swartz crit is something i didn't know, thank you for sharing it. it doesn't make his death less of a tragedy to point out that maybe we shouldn't be hero worshipping someone who very much said those things, i think; JSTOR and the US govt and MIT are still very very wrong for what they did, and you're not saying that they were right!
yeah like first and foremost i want to emphasize that what happened to Aaron Swartz was very much a tragedy that never should have happened, and JSTOR, MIT, and the US govt all have his blood on their hands. the thing that i'm specifically trying to counteract is the conflation of "paywalling academic articles and other information is ethically wrong" (correct) with Swartz's personal free-speech-absolutism philosophy that "bits are not a bug". and the reason i keep harping on it is because this is not some incidental gotcha like "Marx was antisemitic" or "MLK cheated on his wife" where detractors try to condemn an entire ideology by unironically ad-hominem-ing one of its prominent figureheads with shit irrelevant to the discussion at hand. "child pornography should be legal to consume and distribute" is the self-stated endpoint of Swartz's free-speech absolutism! he views child porn as just a string of 0s and 1s, so banning child porn is basically like making a number illegal! he literally says this himself in the earlier link!
anyways im rambling but my point is that if you uncritically support Aaron Swartz's view of free speech you very literally support the distribution of child porn. he's a martyr for academic freedom, and his views on free speech are valuable as an illustration of where exactly a line should be drawn (if anywhere), but, again,
this is what you are agreeing with when you wholeheartedly agree with his views on free speech

🛁💧 Moms, bathtubs and fear of water
today I'd like to dig into some support for the Virginia/Henry/bathtub theory, most notably a Will/Henry parallel I've not seen discussed before, and some thoughts on the rabies thing.
for those just tuning in, we have hints that something awful happened involving Virginia, Henry, and a bathtub of hot water. (that idea is aemiron-main's, you can read the original here)
where there's a tub, there's a mom
let me start by seeing how many ST bathtubs can be tied to mothers. (much of this will have been pointed out before, but I have a couple observations I think are new)
starting at the top: Virginia's vision (turning on the hot water tap and spiders fill the tub instead of water):
Karen soaking in a hot bath listening to "Memories" before milfing it up with Billy, a minor, a boy her daughter's age. check
Will and Joyce "he likes it cold" you better believe that's a paddlin
we saw the Byers' tub before. when El saw it in the mirror (lol) and went to tell Joyce (Will's Mother) about her water tank idea. ok she was addressing the group but Joyce is the one who actually engages. I'm counting it. ps when they do set up the bath for El, Lucas uses a thermometer to make sure the water is the right temperature
this is a tiny one, but Nancy goes to sit on the tub and cry after excusing herself from Barb's mom at the KFC dinner.
that scene where El and Max find Billy's tub with ice bags?
darn, nothing immediately motherly in this scene. but what if we check the last dialogue in the prior scene? or the first dialogue in the following scene?
both hits! mom/age-inappropriate-sexual-knowledge + mother/son combo.💀
next up, FOR WHAT REASON was I made to see Murray get naked and get into a tub full of ice while on the phone with Joyce in 4x01?
let's also toss in a shot of Joyce being weird in her front yard, prompting a neighbor child to dispense a line of dialogue involving mothers.
but seriously. after all the flayed/ice tub imagery throughout s3, why kick off s4 with Murray in an ice bath? no, I'm really asking.
we've got a dash of sexual inappropriateness, or so Joyce thinks - Murray happens to plop into the ice at the exact moment that she observes the Russian doll has nipples, which makes her think his reaction is about that:
the only tub scene I'm struggling to tie super directly to mothers is Heather. you could say it's that Joyce appears in the next scene, but that's weak. or that Flayed Heather later drugs/kidnaps her mom. eh.
as em pointed out, the tub Heather's in here is extremely similar to Virginia Creel's. is that sufficient?
so anyway, some of those are def stronger than others, but they all provide some combination of: mothers, bathtubs (esp with attention drawn to water temperature), and fear/ sorrow / discomfort / sexual inappropriateness.
am I forgetting any other bathtubs?
now let's talk more about fear
what started me on this post was how possessed-Will's reaction to the bathtub is so explicitly labeled as fear - NOT by Will, but by Mr. Clarke's voiceover:
yet what sparked One's strength was a memory that made him "sad, but also angry" - which, if the implied tub incident indeed happened, would totally fit the bill.
sad and angry. not afraid. I guess it makes sense that fear isn't one of the emotions he would draw power from later upon recalling this event, but he undoubtedly would've been afraid in the moment. he didn't say that though.
not in that scene.
now, idk if he's referring to The Incident here, or his early lab life or what, but. oh I'm at my image limit. ok well his lines leading up to this are (close up of dead kids) "why do you cry for them, Eleven? after everything they did to you? you think you need them, but you don't. you don't."
why exactly would El "need" the other lab kids? according to NINA, they treated her poorly. tbh kinda sounds more like a projected reaction to the death of an abusive mother.
anyway. apart from that "I was scared once" reference to some past turning point, man will not say he is or was scared. he'll imply and project but he won't say it:
you know who else won't say they're scared? Will.
Will has never said once on the entire show that he's afraid. ever. throughout all the utterly HORRIFYING situations he's been in. he undoubtedly has been scared, and other characters say that about him many times, but Will has never said, in his own words, as far as I can find, that he's afraid.
he dances around it and veils it and teeters on the edge of it, but he will not actually say I Am Afraid.
"how did you feel?" "it felt like when you're scared" boy what.
but Will has not always been fearless!
wanna know what the very first mention of fear on the whole show is? Will assuring Joyce he won't have nightmares from seeing Poltergeist because:
is it not giving "I was scared once too" ?
now here comes my favorite part:
Joyce replies with the "my witch" thing, and she doesn't actually finish the sentence, but I think that last word can be guessed pretty accurately:
cook him up in your what?
your cauldron? cauldron, kôl′drən, noun: 1. A large vessel used for boiling?
so like... have I got this straight? our earliest flashback of Will involves his mother playing an evil character who's gonna put him in a large vessel of hot liquid?
I ask you again: is it not giving "I was scared once too"?
I'm tacking my red conspiracy yarn in at "Henry was five years old."
now, just wondering, what was the turning point that made Will stop having nightmares from movies and "getting scared like that"? Bob_one_day_the_nightmares_suddenly_stopped.wav
now let's talk about rabies
Robin proceeds to list some rabies symptoms and what's funny about that (besides the fact they're standing in a mysteriously dry lakebed) is she left out possibly the best-known symptom: fear of water.
in fact, rabies used to be called hydrophobia ("fear of water").
hydrophobia in rabies stems from paralysis of throat muscles making it difficult or impossible to swallow, and so sufferers will panic at the prospect of drinking or even the mere sight of water. excessive salivation + inability to swallow it leads to the other pop culture rabies symptom, the appearance of "foaming at the mouth".
pretend here I put in screenshots of El and Barb spitting up water when they wake up in the UD and that unnecessary shot of Billy drooling when El is levitating him
Robin's isn't the only reference to rabies on ST. it's come up in two other seasons:
so every time rabies comes up, it's in reference to demodogs, demobats, and flayed rats. all critters that are part of the hive.
ostensibly controlled by one guy, who is afraid of water.
misc honorable mentions:
what do you wanna bet Dart not only doesn't need water, but would hate water like he hates heat?
Dart grew up to be a demodog, and demodogs dug those tunnels - the ones Bob figured out were a map of Hawkins because the "roads" outlined recognizable bodies of water instead of crossing over them.
when Bob said that, he didn't know the "roads" were underground, and therefore it wouldn't be crossing over water but rather crossing through water. if your tunnel breached a lake or river, it would flood. the demodogs were avoiding water.
also: no one in the water, you say?
speaking of Hawkins Pool, there's also the thing I've mentioned before, how it seems incredibly relevant that One chose Billy as his s3 host - a lifeguard whose one possession-busting happy memory involved his mother warning him not to drown.
also: Hopper saying that jumping into the quarry would result in the water "breaking every damn bone in your body"
and Jason asks Patrick, right before Vecna breaks every damn bone in his body in Lovers Lake:
I'm going to think of more as soon as I hit post but that's all I have for you today.
I want real answers on the Murray ice thing btw
#btw in this and any analysis please mentally insert 🥁 any time I use the word 'one'#in disbelief that they've not yet worked the phrase 'getting into hot water' into the show somewhere#analysis#givehimthemedicine analysis#mine#btw what's the water table like in hawkins#where you can dig tunnels right along the perimeter of lakes and it stays dry in there

They still feel off specially the eyes i could feel them about to manifest their own life and run off
Even my linework is ... Idk what's wrong and it's the problem maybe I'm staring too much but I don't think so
Sorry for bothering alot but i loved your last advice ty
i think the main problem with the first picture has to do with the proportions and anatomy of the lower body area aka the neck and shoulders. i'd make the shoulders wider and add some sort of form to the neck so that it looks believable instead of a flat rectangle shape ( maybe make it slimmer a bit too? although that might be just a stylistic choice so you do you). That's the first thing i'd fix because otherwise the head looks too big in comparison to the rest of the body, and it can throw you off
I actually think you did a great job with the eyes, they have a lot of life and that comes from the fact that they are the most rendered part of your piece, which is not a bad thing. The thing is, while it is true that the eyes are the main focal point of a face and portrait in general, that doesn't mean you can neglect the other parts, so i think it is also a consistency issue or not figuring out exactly what sort of style or rendering you want to go with that holds you back (which is totally fine and normal ofc). So let's pick a semi-realistic stylized rendering style for this since this is the vibe i'm getting from this piece.
If that's the style we're going for, then the face should have a bit more form. You have to remember that our facial features ( eyes, nose, lips) are connected with each other via the planes of the face, right? So, for a semirealistic style, revisit your reference and try to idenitify what those planes are and how they connect to those features, and most importantly, where the shadows hit, and just accentuate them more, because at the moment they look like 3rd forms plastered over a 2d surface which is not right, our skin has form as well. Color-wise, don't be afraid to go darker with the shadows, they really make your drawings pop. Without looking at a reference, i'd def add some shadow under the lips, a bit where the lips connect to the nose, under the neck, and in the lower body area.
I'm really trying to avoid the most basic answer which is " practice anatomy !!1! " because everyone can say that however, at the end of the day, this is the main thing the face lacks. And tbvh you don't have to actually know anatomy, you just gotta know some proportions things that make the face look believable enough. I feel like the features are mostly just drawn from the reference without an understanding of the structure behind it. Something tells me that in the reference picture, the person had their head tilted a bit upwards, but here it's kinda flat and the features are just painted without following the motion. Try to draw over your reference picture the vertical and horizontal lines and make up the head shape behind it to figure out the way it is tilting and facing, because the lips, eyes nose, etc will follow that same sort of flow, they're not stationary. I'd also make the eyes a bit smaller, or maybe make the skull bigger bc i think they are touching the outer edge too much now, and also narrow the distance between the nose and lips just a bit. Kinda hard to explain without actually doing it myself. But really, try to play with that, and try getting comfy with drawing 3d forms i know it's easier said than done but..... there really isn't any shortcut unfortunately As for the lineart drawing, yes it's actually pretty solid, i like that duplicate blur thing you did, i'm familiar with that technique and it def has its perks so that's great. Im not an expert on lineart, however here i think there are too many " unnecessary" lines that could easily be omitted (purple). Less is more and all that~ The hair strands at the end feel too stiff and identical (green). If you notice, they all just end in this " V" shape and they rarely overlap thus making the image look flat. Try to break this pattern by introducing more spontaneity aka random hairflies, making the strands overlap, adding more shape variety etc
Make sure that the lines connect properly whenever they meet, and also although you already did it and i think that's great, you can make some lines even thicker, go even further and add even more lineweight. As a general thing, usually, the exterior or contour lines are thicker and whatever it is inside is thinner so experiment with that, you can start from the nose- thicker lines for the nostrils thinner for that nose tip i forgot what it's called and also add thin lines that just hint at the form. Lineart is hardd so i don't blame you, but if you're gonna keep the lineart in, try "shading" with black blocks so to speak, make sure the lineart layer can stand on its own, and pay more attention to the lower part area (neck and shoulders) even if it is less exciting to ink
#ok i lied it's long again#these are pretty fun to do can u blame me#ask iztea#you should also check in with other people don't take my word for everything#but since you asked my personal opinion here u go#sorry for any typos if there are any i'll fix them later#long post#ask iztea: art talk
