With these ±50 items you can create countless (or around 120.960) of 2014 Tumblr Soft Grunge outfits!
Tops:
- Simple black and white tops in different shapes, like the American Apparel ones pictured. A simple black and white t-shirt is also always good to have.
- Tops with a design. Especially horizontal black and white stripes and grids are a need!
- Band merch! Arctic Monkeys is the most popular one, but e.g. The 1975, The Neighbourhood and Nirvana are also good!
- The alien shirt! I think everyone remembers this one, the OG is from Brandy Melville, but there are a lot of remakes.
- A top with a Japanese word, I found these on Pinterest, but you can find a word that you like :)
- Flannels. Go for a dark colour like grey, green or red. Wear it as usual or around the waist.
- A jean jacket, usually a little baggy. Vintage Levi's are a good option, but any brand works.
Sets:
- Another popular outfit is the Lulu set from American Apparel, this one was available in several designs, but for the soft grunge look we're looking for the black and white versions. Like the ones pictured.
Bottoms:
- Pleated tennis skirts! Specifically from American Apparel, the black and white ones are a must! One with a plaid print is also good to have, especially when the rest of the outfit is a bit plain and you want that little extra.
- Jean shorts, preferably a bit baggy. Washed out denim, grey tints and black are great options.
- Jeans! I'll make a separate list here.
Jeans:
- 2 pairs of blue denim baggy jeans (preferably a bit of a lighter shade). 1 ripped and 1 not.
- 2 pairs of black baggy jeans. Again, 1 ripped and 1 not.
- 1 pair of black skinny jeans.
Shoes:
Shoes are usually black, but white is also seen.
- Chunky heels, like the ones from UNIF.
- Platform sneakers, Buffalo is a good brand for that.
- A pair of black Dr. Martens. High ones are the most versatile in my opinion, but the low ones are cute too.
- Black High Top Converse All-Stars are a must. Checkered ones are nice as well.
- And so are the classic Checkered Vans slip ons.
- Nike Air Force 1, in black and/or white.
- Black creepers.
Accessoires:
- Fishnet tights! You can get them in different sizes :) you can also get fishnet socks
- Kneehigh socks! Get 4 different ones so you have a bit of versatility. 2 plain in black and white, 2 with stripes, so black with white stripes (like the one pictured) and white with black stripes.
- Chokers! There are many different designs but the tattoo choker is iconic! A plain black one is the other most important one. If you got those two you're free to get any choker you like! Not before that tho >:)
- Crystal necklaces, you know? THOSE ones :) in silver obvi
- A beanie for the winter. A black one with white stars or text maybe? It's up to you :)
- Black and white tote bags, specifically The American Apparel cities bag and the one with 'This Bag Contains [some illegal stuff]
This all together can be very expensive, but you probably already have some things in your closet! I suggest going to thrift stores :) also, ofc you don't have to buy these brands, you can look for cheaper look a likes :)
I hope this helped you so that you can dress like THAT Tumblr girl!

The Mandalorian s2 ep1 Reactions Post That’s right I’m BACK
and none of you not even god himself can stop me from rambling about space cowboy dad and tiny green baby stuff for much longer than any sane person should
the TL;DR is that I still love this show SO MUCH, beware a bunch of spoilers under the cut!
- costume design wise I LOVE how badly the armour fits Cobb Vanth
especially when you get shots with him and Din side by side for contrast:
It’s not just that it’s clearly not made for him (it seems he’s a lot lankier and more wiry than Boba is), he simply doesn’t know how to wear it, and he doesn’t know how to take care of it, because he doesn’t know what it means. Remember when Din’s breastplate got bent completely out of shape by the mudhorn and he had it repaired to the best of his ability long before they even finished with the ship? That’s why he looks so grounded and natural in it and Vanth has sort of a clumsy Spiderman-in-his-first-home-made-costume air about him. (also Boba’s helmet has a beautiful heft and solidity to it in this, they make all the beskar have a Feel and weight to it, makes it feel important)
I like that Vanth is taller than Din; everything that drives home that Din’s strength doesn’t come from being naturally physically imposing or impressive is a joy to me
- Boba’s armour seems to be confirmed to be real beskar, which gives me so much hope that they’re doing something actually nuanced and interesting with Boba and Jango’s cultural identities as Mandalorians (whether they do consider themselves that or not, for example), unlike George Lucas’ inexplicable yet unbending stance of ‘They aren’t and never were lol get fucked Fetts’
the way the triumphant heroic part of the mando music sputtered and died when the man himself showed up tho... uh-oh this might be bad news
man but that’s a stunning and surprising way to introduce a well-known character divorced from what makes them so iconic, though, just from that I’m going to trust they know what they’re doing (AND they got temuera morrison back I’m so EXCITED!!!). without the armor there’s the face of someone who shared that face with literal millions and at the same time must be looking older than his father ever got to at this point, and that’s super interesting as a starting point to me. (I... guess there’s still a chance it’s a fakeout and that it’s actually another clone, but that would be such a letdown when they’ve already given us this haha)
- an excellent [mando sighs] moment
this opening scene did a great job of re-summarizing him for the audience -- establishing again that he gives you one chance at dealing with him fairly and if you insist on continuing to be an asshole about it, you’re toast, the fact that his fighting style is so much about being able to tank blows rather than not getting hit in the first place, the horror movie monster mando setup as he stalked the dude down and strung him up, the Poetic Justice predicated on some very careful word choices, and most importantly “where I go, he goes”... all wonderful, I’m sure I’ll watch this scene back for fine details and better looks at the background characters many many times
(word seems to have spread about him and the baby for real now, which makes me VERY nervous btw)
- Pulserifle’s back! Jetpack’s back! Razor Crest’s back! Grappling line’s back! PELLI’S BACK!!!!!! Tattooine... is also back *Finn voice* Why does everyone want to go back to Tattooine????
I really enjoyed the way they fleshed out and (for lack of a better word) humanized the sand people, though, if you are going back to this desert hellplanet again that is a worthy reason to do it
- Din swearing :O!! and one of the less egregious star wars swears too, I’m fine with this
- in campaign star wars news: I guess there was sort of both a binbon and a jubna in this ep! what a time to be alive
- as usual I love the jawa. a bright spot in any day, just a bunch of lil goblin-y friends hanging out having the best time loving sparkly crystals and rescuing silver foxes.
get in loser we’re going shopping
-
I uh. Do you think. Hm. Is there maybe a metaphor here somewhere. Is there perhaps a hidden, one may say double, meaning, at play, right here, in this image? Who can say, it’s just niggling at me (there’s a very similar set of shots with Toro in season 1, but seemingly the show went ‘I fear we might have gone too subtle with it, let’s amp it up this time’ over the season break loool)
honestly though this dynamic really highlighted everything I love about the ways Din performs masculinity. It’s so much softer and more community/collaboration focused and more comfortable to be around than Vanth’s version -- and Vanth isn’t a bad dude by any stretch of the imagination, it’s not hard to see why he’s like that considering where he’s from, he’s just such a... man. The lone person who can protect this village! The only man who’s got what it takes! It’s all on his shoulders and no one else’s, so do exactly as he says or he’ll put a hole in you! (I think it’s telling that one of his first comments to Din is ‘I’m sure you call the shots wherever you’re from, but ‘round here, I’m the person who tell folks what to do’, because as we as the audience knows, Din very much does not call the shots of where he’s from lol) I guess it says some nice things about the tribe of Mandos Din is from that this is how he approaches things, and it says some good things about Vanth how quickly he comes around to this smarter and less confrontational/domineering style of doing things once he’s been exposed to it and sees how it works. it’s just neat
(it’s smart of Favreau to set his ~*lone gunslinger*~ character up like this, too, it makes him so much more interesting and versatile)
- With the way Din says ‘a Mandalorian Armorer sent me on my path’ it does seem confirmed that’s the equivalent of a priest role or a sort of shaman -- I wonder if he knows the name of ‘The’ Armorer or if they take on the role as a whole identity
- the sheer contrast between the two people who wanted Din to take his helmet off for them in this ep tho... wants Mando’s armour off for horrible awful reasons and got exactly what he deserved:
wants Mando’s armour off for entirely sympathetic and understandable, just culturally uninformed, thirsty thirsty reasons & also having drinks together:
(the sort of... little lick over his bottom lip he does there? keep it in your pants vanth my GODjflsadf he’s a good dude tho he understands and respects the ‘no armour removal before marriage’ thing and backs down gracefully)
- This is a nuanced thing: I don’t think I actually ship it (not in a requited way from Din’s side, anyway, Vanth I’m 100% sure about lol), but the incredible potential for out-of-context-taking of “Take it off, or I will”/”...we doin’ this in front of the kid?” is uh astounding
(anyone got the vibe Vanth sort of had something with the bartender too? no just me? well well)
- I was never really scared Din was actually dead or hurt b/c baby wasn’t scared and I figure he’d know lol, a very useful fear barometer
- “What’s the plan?” “Take care of the child” “What are you gonna do?” “I don’t know, but wish me luck *yeets his new bro out of harm’s way before diving in head first himself*” fksdjhfkjlashdfkjsldahfkasldjhfskldajhfsadkjfh WHAT a summation of Din’s entire approach to battle & life, dad please you carry a not insignificant part of my heart around with you be careful
(Also with the heavy implication that Boba was watching the whole thing... can you imagine him just looking on as Din throws himself down that gullet like a madman. There must have been some ‘o_-7 *headscratch headscratch* ???’ going on for him there)
it’s kind of sweet that din trusts vanth will take care of the baby if something happens though, they really bonded quickly huh
- the sand people who kept willingly going over to the krayt dragon’s cave are honestly braver and more admirable than anyone else has ever been, I kept just shouting in anguish as they were gobbled up, they deserved better
- can we talk about how clear it still is that Din’s just... lonely. When he thinks he’s found another Mando and he sounds almost reverent with relief... and then it gets odder and odder (’uh... drinks? I guess... does he have drinking straws with him or -- HE’S TAKING THE HELMET OFF???’ oh buddy)
I wonder if they’re building towards something about him realizing it doesn’t have to be Mandos for him to trust and bond with people longer term? Basically all the characters he’s met and we’ve watched him form attachments to and get help from are non-Mandos -- Kuiil :’^(, Cara, Omera, Cobb Vanth, IG-11 :^’’(, Greef Karga to a degree. Establishing so firmly what he’s looking for this early would be good setup for a ‘what a character thinks they want vs. what they need’ thing later on just on a writing level, anyway, Boba Fett could bring in some interesting points of view about Mandalorianness too
- baby’s happy gurgles when he sees pelli!!!!!! din speaking sand people language and petting alligator doggies!!!!!!
- pedro pascal’s voice work remains an utter joy to me. din’s measured, earnest, occasionally slightly stilted way of talking is still so good, and then he does things like inserting some more... idk life is the wrong word but that more charged and dynamic tone he took on when he said (”I thought you weren’t a gambler”) “I’m not”. *chef kiss*
- if the pulse rifle’s stun is able to do that to a fuckn krayt dragon... that’s some serious shit din is carrying around with him lol (interestingly the actual shooty pew-pew part of it didn’t seem to do much to it, but then I guess he was shocking it from the inside out and not through thick hide, so idk)
- my only real complaints about this ep: Vanth’s backstory ran a bit long, and not enough baby & dad interaction. the concept art’s got me tho:
(din often wears his original/old armour in concept art still, incidentally, don’t know what that’s about)
awwwwwww
+ omfg ;______;
- this sand people person conscientiously brushing a bantha’s teeth... blessed
- Customary flame thrower report: there was a rare useful deployment of the flamethrower. Good job Mando’s flame thrower for furthering the field of diplomacy
ETA: I CAN’T BELIEVE I FORGOT TO MENTION THIS: DIN BEING COMFORTABLE(ISH) AROUND DROIDS NOW!!!! GROWTH????!?! IG-11 WE MISS YOU??????????
#the mandalorian#the mandalorian spoilers#star wars#the mandalorian meta#meta#(I'm trying to label my meta more specifically these days b/c the general meta tag is a MESS on my blog lol)#mmmmmmmm feels good to break out the overanalysis goggles again it's time to OVERTHINK SOME SHIT my friends

GX Month 2020
SUper late and I’m too lazy to do anything (as always), but this seems like fun to think about. So let’s go!
Day 1 (August 31): “Game on!” (It’s Judai/Jaden Yuki’s birthday today! Let’s celebrate!):
Jaden is a great protagonist. I love dumb but OP main characters, especially when they got lucky-go attitudes.
Day 2 (September 1): “Red, Yellow, Blue!” (Ah, the tier system at Duel Academy. Which dorm is your favorite?):
I’m attached to Slifer Red, lol. They got a cat for mascot, what more do I need? Also, they serve tempura for lunch.
Day 3 (September 2): “Rule the School” (These kids might be saving the world, but they’re still students with homework to do and exams to pass. Celebrate the school life today!):
Don’t know what to put here, but I was a terrible student because I didn’t study or do things in a timely manner. Do better than me, kids.
Day 4 (September 3): “Sometimes I Can’t Believe We’re Related” (10Join! Today is all about the iconic brother-sister pair, Fubuki Tenjoin/Atticus Rhodes and Asuka Tenjoin/Alexis Rhodes!):
I love this sibling pair! ^^ Alexis is really cool, and Atticus is so far out of the left field. I really thought Atticus was going to be cool like his sister, or edgy like Zane, but nah, this guy is, like, I just want to support my sister and play this ukulele. They make such a contrasting pair, so it adds to the humor.
Day 5 (September 4): “Pass The Salt” (No story is perfect. So what is something you wish you could have seen in the story of GX?)
I can’t think of anything.
Day 6 (September 5): “Going Down With The Ships!” (You know what I’m talking about. We all have an armada parked in the bay, but there’s that one ship, that one ship, that you would die for. Today is all about OTPs and OT3s!)
I really like Rivalshipping. I don’t really have that many ships for GX. 5D’s and Zexal are more of my jam.
Day 7 (September 6): “Bring the THUNDER” (Ichi! Juu! Hyaku! Sen! Chazz it up! Today the world does in fact revolve around Jun Manjoume/Chazz Princeton.)
HANDS DOWN, one of my two top choices for favorite rival. (Jack’s the other.) My favorite things about Chazz are his name, his energy, and that fact that he’s a baby brother. He’s so cute! ^^ I just want to make fun of him.
Day 8 (September 7): “The Power of Friendship!” (Favorite dynamic duo, two characters you think would have been friends if only they met, how friendship saves the day, or maybe a friendship fail. It’s up to you!):
Chazz and Pharoah, lol. I need Chazz to hold that cat and pet it. Why didn’t he? :’(
Day 9 (September 8): “Born to be Bad” (Inherently evil, brainwashed, misguided, or misunderstood. GX boots a colorful cast of villainy. Who’s your favorite bad guy?):
I haven’t finished season 4 yet, but Nightshroud.
Day 10 (September 9): Free Day/Introductions (Tell us about yourself and your GX experience! Your favorites, why you like it, how you got into it. Or leave the day open to do whatever you want!):
I’m known as kappa. I got Hulu, and Hulu has almost all the YGO series excluding VRAINS and SEVENS which is fine because I also have Crunchyroll and the internet, lol; so, I watched all the YGO series simultaneously, skipping back and forth between series. I did not watch any of them in order. GX was number 5 or 6, but it’s the one series I’m putting off.
Day 11 (September 10): “Cyber Legacy” (No Yu-Gi-Oh! show is complete without a pair of brothers. Today’s stars are Sho Marufuji/Syrus Truesdale and Ryo Marufuji/Zane Truesdale!):
I love these guys! It was great to see them grow and become their own people. ^^ They had, I think, the most realistic relationship.
Day 12 (September 11): “But What If We Had Bikes?” (That’s right! It’s time for the GX crew to rev it up on their very own D-Wheels/Duel Runners!):
I CANNOT DRAW. SORRY LMAO
Day 13 (September 12): “And You Are…?” (Got a favorite OC? Or one you’ve been hiding in the closet? Introduce them to the world today!):
I only have a Rivalshipping OC baby. Her name is Mira Princeton, and she has Jaden’s brown hair and Chazz’s dark eyes (with a bit of a golden glow). Since both her parents can see spirits, it’d make sense that she can too, lol. Her companion is Yata-Garasu, a rare card that her mama won at a tournament. She likes pink and flowers. She is very close to Aster and calls him Uncle Aster. She’s four, and most of her life, she knows her dad as the “Slifer slacker but a really good duelist.”
I love her. :)
Day 14 (September 13): “The Perfect Formula” (He duels with the power math and science! Today, show the world that you still remember Daichi/Bastion Misawa!)
Bastion is a funny character. “Everything is science. I’m going to disappear for several months. Don’t forget to forget me,” I think.
Day 15 (September 14): “Insert pun here” (It’s meme day! Recreate your favorites! Make some shitposts! Be the troll you’ve always wanted to be!):
Bastion: SIr, I’m afraid your DNA is backwards.
Jaden: AND?
Day 16 (September 15): “Creation and Destruction” (The Gentle Darkness and the Light of Destruction. The eternal struggle. And also the Darkness that tried to drown the world. Huh. Feels a little unbalanced.):
It’s pretty cool to have darkness and light reverse, and then watch as darkness conflict with itself, lmao. The Light of Destruction would be a chaotic good, and the Gentle Darkness as chaotic neutral. (Don't quote me on that, I don’t do personality quizzes.)
Day 17 (September 16): “Putting the D in Destiny” (Pro duelist by day and crime fighting vigilante by night. Today is Edo/Aster Phoenix’s day!):
He’s great. I like him. He’s the precursor to Declan Akaba’s D/D/D archetype. Maybe not. Can you believe that he actually said “Shmaden Shmuki on national TV???? LMAO
Day 18 (September 17): “In Another Life” (It’s AU day!):
Currently trying to write a fantasy-ish AU in which Jun marries the Supreme King. Trust me, I have no idea what I’m doing.
Day 19 (September 18): “I Was Here Too!” (GX has a vast array of unique characters, some of which we only saw once. Pick a “one shot” character and show them off!):
I really like Princess Rose. She was pretty, and her spirit monsters care for her. I appreciate that.
Day 20 (September 19): Free Day 2/Support Fellow Creators (Show some love for your favorite creators, or leave the day free for whatever you please!):
Literally @ everyone whose work(s) and/or post(s) I’ve reblogged. Keep up the good work!
Day 21 ( September 20): “Prehistoric Predators” (The dino duelist with a fossil in his leg. Today is all about Kenzan Tyranno/Tyranno Hassleberry!):
Dino DNA is so funny; I’m sorry, Hassleberry, but I don’t like dinosaurs. At least you were cute as one.
Day 22 (September 21): “Stop Blowing Holes In My Ship!” (Some ships are popular and some are…not. Today is all about rare pairs and crack ships! Give those underdogs some love!):
Tanya/Bastion is kind of cute. And I guess Chazz/Atticus too. ^^
Day 23 (September 22): “And For Today’s Lesson…” (The teachers at Duel Academy have their work cut out for them, but they still take care of their students. Show the DA staff some love today!):
Fonda Fontaine!
Day 24 (September 23): “Legend of the Seven Gems” (Resurrect the greatest light in history today with Johan/Jesse Anderson and the Crystal Beasts!):
Johan is very cute! I’m so glad they gave him a Southern accent in the dub. ^^ It makes him extra soft and lovable. I can’t believe that Johan/JIm is called Cowboyshipping, but I love that name so much.
Day 25 (September 24): “For The Glory of Academia!” (We got to see Asuka/Alexis and Edo/Aster over in Fusion Dimension, but what about the rest of the cast? Show us some Fusion counterparts today! What are these dorks up to and what part do they play in the war?):
I’m bad at rewriting canon. ^^: Sorry.
Day 26 (September 25): “Dream Team From Overseas” (Austin O’Brien/Axel Brody, Jim “Crocodile” Cook, and Amon/Adrian Gecko. Today is all about them!)
I absolutely love Jim Cook, from him being Australian to having a crocodile as his best friend to getting burned with a mysterious object to cowboy hat. xD
Day 27 (September 26): “Duel Monster Spirit Day!” (The world of GX is full of spirits. Do something fun to celebrate your favorite!):
Mine would be Scapeghost and Rose Garden Maiden!
Day 28 (September 27): “Gold Eyes in The Darkness” (Today’s all about the Supreme King! Unleash the Darkness and create your content!):
I like his aesthetic. I’m into Chazz/Supreme King for sure.
Day 29 (September 28): “Don’t Forget Me!” (Have an underappreciated character you wish you’d seen more of? Give them some love today!):
Miss Dorothy! She’s wonderful, she’s friend shaped.
Day 30 (September 29): Free Day 3 (Share anything. Anything at all. It’s free game.):
The Chazz/Supreme King fic I’m working on: The Supreme King’s Husband (Prologue)
Day 31 (September 30): “Gotcha!”:
Is this a Pokemon reference? O_o

Tales From The United/Not-so-United/Vaguely United Nations/States Southwestern Frontier ~ Origins
Transcript of Duncan Cariode’s Research Paper and Oral Recitement for the Averlante Bard Institute
Classroom Eyestone #9901
There’s a great many molds of men out there. You see, first came the original mold that wasn’t much of a mold at all, the gods. They came from nothing hitting nothing and bleeding all over the place, and they came in any form they damn well pleased. So. the gods all got along real well, until Mind came along. It took a form similar to that of a parasite cause it was born too weak to live by itself. It clung to as many gods as possible, spreading itself across the cosmosphere. All the sudden, most of the gods found a self. It had infected them with sentience by being in their presence, and they went from blobs no smarter than rocks to people.
Mind got along real well with a whole bunch of folks. It was real swell, helping everyone it could. It gave the gods purpose. Many gods didn’t really like having Mind over, but Mind understood. After all, with all the pleasure it brought, it also brought pain. Stone and Metal in particular preferred to be alone, and because of that, found a nice peaceful life together spread apart the universe. Another quaint couple was Water and Water. It was quite the narcissist. It often broke up, but it always got back together.
The coziest of couples were Mind and Reality. Reality hated Mind at first, but grew to love them eventually. Reality thought of Mind like a drunkard views whiskey. Reality was often brought down by itself, and speaking to someone who had such lofty ideals was as if it, just for a moment, was really like that. Mind and Reality had such a deep bond that they made the first child, Magic. Magic only followed it’s own rules, and it loved making friends. Magic made friends with even the most ornery of gods, and it changed them all for the better.
The only one Magic had yet to change was Death. Death hated itself with a passion. It ruined everything it touched. It tried making friends with anyone who would take it, but alas, Death was far too awkward to hold a conversation. It always unnerved Water, making it change shapes anxiously, a feature common among gods. Stone and Sand were lonesome folk, so whilst trying to befriend them, Death had taken up a quieter, more peaceful visage. However, Stone and Metal didn’t buy it and told it that they weren’t really looking to expand their social circle. Frustrated with itself, Death had taken to brooding in the corner of the universe.
Magic approached Death in the corner of the infinite expanse with a lively skip. By this time, most of the sentient gods had started taking humanoid forms, and Magic bore lanky, feminine proportions with hip-length, immensely curly, sunset-colored hair. Despite its feminine appearance, however, Magic was larger than all of the other gods, towering over both of it’s parents. As it skipped merrily, Magic shook the cosmosphere. With every bound Magic made, Death became more anxious, or at least it did initially. After watching Magic bounce toward it for a while, it started to smile. Magic eventually ended it’s trot with a pirouette, and then spun clockwise towards the ground, ending up in a cross-legged sitting position in the space in front of Death.
“Hi,” Magic said, as it rocked it’s head violently whilst staring gleefully at Death. “What is it? Come to finish me off? No need. There’s not much worse than this.” Death’s white, translucent, viscous form uttered. “No. Not at all. What is it that you want? Why are you so... sad?” inquired Magic with a solemnity previously unseen by Death.
“I don’t know. I just... want to be part of something. It might sound silly, but I want everyone to like me. I just want everyone to give me a chance.”
“And you really want this? More than anything?”
“More than the ooze that composes me. More than there are stars in the cosmosphere”
Magic pulled out a strand of it’s orange hair. “Here. And, small tip, maybe don’t talk in so creepily.” Magic said as it handed the strand to Death. That strand was a piece of Magic’s will. The first spell. For some reason or another, Magic was the first to discover the ability to make spells. Willpower, words, and feeling were given gravity and power. A part of oneself forcing others, at least for a moment, to take it seriously. Death had gained an uncanny ability that it had not realized until after The Great Pissing Contest.
The Great Pissing Contest, for those who aren’t in the know, was when all of us smaller beings were made. You see after Magic gave Death a strand of hair, a whole slew of gods wanted in. They didn’t know that they too had it’s abilities, and a relentless war for Magic’s attention ensued. Quite a few gods that didn’t become as iconic as Death, Magic, Stone, and Metal started having children in the hopes that their children would have such strength as well. Entire factions formed whilst trying to harvest the power of their descendants. They even invented the concept of money, just to facilitate the trade and harvest of children. Essentially, entire wars were fought to obtain powers that they already had. Several hundred gods died, and Magic found itself being held captive often.
Magic had been held in multiple different prisons, subconsciously made real by their desire to contain it. They had walls of greed and a deep lust for power whose urges moaned throughout the premises. Magic always managed to escape, with each prison having a deep flaw in the design. They were unconsciously made, and because of this, the prisons were made as poorly as, well, anything you might make without thinking about it. Eventually, Magic disappeared. Fortunately, before they could find Magic again, they had found bigger problems for themselves in the shapes of other gods. The Least Meaningful War had been started. Gods had begun killing gods with no abandon. At first, there was a reason. Most of the gods had a purpose and reason to gain this power. However, after eons, reasons waned. Warring had become the only way of life they knew. The only gods that hadn’t participated in this war were what we now call the Prime Gods, Reality, Mind, Metal, Stone, Death, and Magic as well as a few others.
Eventually, the vying for power got so destructive that a truce had to be made. More than half of the gods’ number had been killed in the capture of magic. Those who lived were more often worse for wear. They were subjugated, forced to make children, or at least attempt to, as that was the only lead they had as to how they could obtain Magic’s power. The kindness that Magic once saw in each of the non-Prime gods was diminished. They were phantoms of people. Humanity and humility were traded for dimes on the dollar. Mind called a meeting in what would eventually be the little speck of dirt called Earth, and as it had infected almost everyone with sentience by this point, they all agreed to at least hear Mind out. A sudden realization had dawned on all of the gods as they stood on the manifestation of Metal and Stone. As they listened to Mind, a deep self-hatred grew in many of them. They knew the horror of their crimes, and a vast majority of them weren’t prepared to deal with that. It didn’t take Mind telling them that the war was pointless to get them to stop. All it took was a moment of silence. Nobody even listened to Mind’s speech to the point where nobody even knows what Mind said to this day. They just stood around ashamed. It also helps that it suddenly dawned on them that they already had said powers when they saw Metal and Stone, guided by Magic, shape the planet they stood on before their eyes. While relations between the gods worsened, there weren’t any more wars or slaves or needless children being made. Luckily, few ever figured out how to make children, and despite it’s length, the war wasn’t long enough for children to be harvested or even born. They would grow up in a mostly normal way, much like how Magic grew up. Having been severely traumatized beforehand by war, most gods relegated their expressions of disdain to small pranks and words, and the biggest prank war of all was The Great Pissing Contest.
It all started when Thylat, decided to make a series of people, just like they did before with animals and plants. It saw the planet that Stone and Metal had made and decided to do something similar. It studied the work of Stone intensely, taking mental notes as to how they could make it as diverse and interesting as the Earth. Water, the only Prime God to really take interest in the relations of others, saw them and, like always, had to give it’s thoughts. Water had involved itself so deeply with this little project that the critter couldn’t live without it. Thylat didn’t even mind none, as, despite Water’s pretentious attitude, it actually had some good ideas. Together, they made Wildlings, a species of short, skinny, people with colors of hair much like Water’s rainbows, and pointy little ears and noses. Meant to just be a neat little side project, soon everyone had to outdo Thylat, as ever since they made fools of themselves in the war, many of the gods had been desperate to prove their worth. Aposet made Giants (self-explanatory) and was showered with praise for it’s “creativity”. Kypnessi made Jiragige, a race of people with crystals embedded in their skin and skin that came in the colors of different types of stone. While Thylat liked some of the designs, it knew what they were doing, and they’d done it every time it’d make anything. They’d done it with plants and animals, and sure as shootin’ they were ‘bout to do it with people as well.
Needless to say, Thylat was made the punching bag of the cosmosphere despite being the sweetest god there ever was, except maybe Magic. Most gods made Wildlings but slightly different and slightly better just to stir up Thylat, but it was just light teasing. Enoucco, however, was a no-count rascal. You see, during the war, Enoucco was the one who started it all, and that embarrassment stuck. Enoucco made Humans, a race that wasn’t inherently bad. They had a few key differences like smaller, rounded ears and smaller genitals, but the way Enoucco made them was sly. Nobody knew how bad they’d get until they got bad, as Enoucco gave them subtle little differences to make them more akin to violence. The biggest change was their sexes. He made the males slightly bigger, and the females slightly smaller and with larger breasts. Pair that with outright telling them to be violent, and you’ve got a warring race if I ever did see one. They took as much as they could, and not much could stop them, as none of the other races even thought of fighting before humans came. Unable to watch them suffer any longer, Magic went down on Earth and tried to sort it out. However, Enoucco prepared for this, and the humans tried to run Magic out. For one, the female humans were designed in Magic’s image, and they were taught and conditioned to basically enslave their women. And two, they immensely distrusted outsiders, as Enoucco had a crafty little religion made to keep them in line.
Magic, realizing that not much could be done on the human end, planted a strand of it’s hair in the ground, and only told the other races how to use it. They fought tooth and nail with their newfound powers and retook a lot of land. However, the damage was done, and despite the halting of the human race’s genocides, they had still spread their culture in such a way that couldn’t be repaired by one person alone, to the point where even many Wildling nations adopted a patriarchal institution. Well folks, you’ve been a good audience. I do thank you, Miss Everland, for this research paper has been most enlightening. [Duncan turns in his written paper as well as his sources. After a brief silence in the room, Everland grabs Duncan by the hand and leads him into the hallway. Muffled screaming can be heard from her, and she returns, slamming the door on him.]

New character arcs and new back story because canon sucks again
Main 4 cast with notes on characters that need notes for changes to make sense Garnet: yesyesyesyesyeysyes everything good about this show. There’s not enough garnet centric things where she’s just herself and not about ruby and sapphire. More information on Garnet. Shes stoicly funny and just murders people with words sometimes. show her being rose’s top tactician. turning the tides of the war that were never in the crystal gem’s favor. maybe theres a fun earth thing shes into. Her room is the heart of the temple for a reason now. Its a balance between pearl and amethyst. The bubbles are organized, but she has her own side space with things she does as hobbies. She has a collection of antique books that she likes to read lava side and she often meditates to see corrupted gems and a future in which the CGs encounter them. maybe she even draws them out to combine ruby’s need to Do with sapphire's need to Know. Fusion is still very important to her, but not she has plot relevant interests that make sense with her character. Her character arc involves her being the first of her kind. shes something completely new! just like steven is. and for that not to bind them together is silly. She wants the best for steven and he makes her want to be an even better leader now that rose is gone and shes the only one left. she makes him think about his actions and slows down his hyper activity when he or amethyst are trying to do something reckless. From him she learns that it’s okay to let her guard down more. Homeworld might come back, but it’s not all on her shoulders. the CGs are a family and they’ll protect everyone together. Garnet in jailbreak is the first time we know shes a fusion and before that we get more about her character not just from environment around her, but her reactions to things. Maybe she feels like she needs to be in control because shes afraid that without rose, homeworld is more a danger than ever.
Amethyst: I like most of her progression actually!!! a few things I’d mess with is when she’s unnecessary hurtful to people she loves, like greg, when she shape shifted into rose, and peridot when she all but threw her stuff into the ocean. these things need to be gotten rid of, or addressed by the narrative. I’d also like to see her hanging around Vidalia wayyyyy sooner or to have a reason why they dont. As for reasons, maybe Amethyst did or said something hurtful toward her, lashing out at her for whatever reason that made their friendship strained. while a decade is a long time for a human, for a gem its nothing. so while she feels bad, Am’ isnt going to apologize herself!!! she didnt do anything wrong!!! and maybe Vidalia is the first person steven convinces her to apologize to. Steven teaches her compassion and is, in return, the gem he can relate to the best. He goes to her first with gem issues and she acts like an older sibling, trying to teach him or cover up mistakes so pearl and garnet dont find out. I think i’d like a progression of Am’ refusing to apologize to Vidalia, realizing that she was wrong and apologizing to greg, but he breaks down and can’t move past that, rendering their friendship difficult and strained as a “sometimes apologizing isnt enough and you have to change your behavior“ and then the third beat with peridot either not happening at all, where she doesnt throw someone’s comfort items into the ocean which, i think steven shouldve realized and stopped her from doing anyway, BUT if you just NEED that mistake on her part, i feel like this could be a “sometimes, you dont know how bad you hurt someone and you should apologize when you find out“ with peridot being hurt and not talking to her and amethyst has to do a big gesture to show shes sorry. I also feel like that fleshes out amedot as a ship and while i dont care about who peridot ends up with, i care about story and the way im going to make this story go, lapis will be in that fun moral grey area and i want more options in terms of story telling and of fan choice. Also!!! explore the possibility of her being deep cut and thats why shes a runt. she only looks smaller but has all these strengths because of it!!! it fits in really well and bismuth or peridot maybe because she was made for kindergardening, could tell her about it and watch her get excited because shes not ”wrong“ she never came out “wrong“ shes just different and thats okay!
Pearl: Was white diamond’s pearl, first of all! that makes every interaction more interesting, because no only did she defect from homeworld, but she defected from the Queen of homeworld and everything it stood for basically. We learn more about how homeworld operates and what places in society each gem fits from pearl, because while she doesn’t believe it herself, she isn’t kept from talking about diamonds now and what one she served. in this funky fresh au, she is sent by white to make sure the new diamond they’re cultivating from earth comes out properly (aka where the fuck did russia go) and getting her equipped with all of the technology she would need to properly rule. this is where she first meets a quartz soldier. at first she’s taken aback by the quartz’s forwardness, no one had ever talked to her like... an equal before. shes not sure if shes allowed to speak, though, she knows theyre waiting for a response. Their first interactions always begin with her requesting permission to speak. They have to wait a few more years for pink to emerge and while they’re there they slowly become friends as the life is leeched out of the area. we could have a snapshots of them waiting for together, rose getting bored and convincing pearl to come do things with her, slowly breaking her out of her shell. Pearl’s difficulty and character arc comes from not just rose and getting over her feelings, which is perfectly fine, but doesnt need to be her only trait, but finding out who she is now, not just after rose, but with humanity as a whole. with the war well and truly over. she wants to learn about what rose thought was so important to fight for, to die for, and because of that, we get her partaking in human activities that arent eating or drinking, because she still dislikes them. While Garnet reads and collects books, i think pearl being really into her weapons collection is a good idea to flesh her out more. Where did she get her swords from? Well thats a mystery. She mentions someone she cared about a long time ago made them for her and thus we get some fun bismuth foreshadowing.
Rose: And rose..... god... we could of had it all by adele plays in the background anytime i think about her. Here we have a very beautiful fat woman. Shes framed as elegant and regal by the show time and time again and i LOVED that. however after the pink diamond reveal, I have such mixed feelings about her. No more diamond bullshit. Shes the first gem that popped out. Technically she’s too early and she goes to stand guard around the birthplace of her diamond. That is where she and pearl first meet. Pearl is the first gem she ever talks to and while she innately knows stuff about home world, shes pick up a lot from the humans that live nearby. theyve shown her kindness and given her furs to wear and in turn she helped them heal their wounded by crying on them. (yes she still has healing powers sue me) she loves the humans and takes to befriending them before pearl shows up. The two of them get close and after pink diamond pops out, rose realizes what the creation of gems truly means for the world around her. They’re killing what was here before them. This isn’t creation. It’s an invasion. Being the only quartz out so far, shes forced into the role of commander for pink. Her favored soldier. And the more she does what she was “made for” the more she hates it and the more she hates the diamond authority. she convinces pink that some humans are worth keeping. As a curiosity, my diamond. they could prove useful to terraforming other planets or moons to accept life and in time, gem cultivation. She gets poofed while trying to save someone from the group of people she first made friends with. Maybe pink shatters whoever poofed her for not following her orders because of course Rose wouldnt defy her. rose is Loyal, unlike the rest of you lack luster garbage. Rose comes back with her iconic dress and shes here and queer and shes fucking Done with this shit. she hears about the shattering on her behalf and she goes to pink and asks why and she feels sick to her stomach because star, my diamond, she isnt Worth it. she isnt worth the cost of someone else’s whole Life!!! Oh rose... you’ve always been soft hearted. in this time, Pearl is quietly there. waiting to be called back by white as pink pearl has just been sent to take her place. And this is it. This is the moment rose decides to rebel. according to homeworld, her life should be no more than any other quartz. her life shouldnt be traded for that of others. So why? Why did pink do this? Do the gems in her court mean nothing to her? This is the first time a gem has ever summoned two weapons. A Sword and Shield. A knight turning on her master. She tried to attack pink. to poof her. to send a message right here and now that gems are all equal. that a lowly rose quartz is strong enough to take on a diamond! She fails, but only partly. she manages to strike a blow, but pink stays in tact long enough to strike on of her own, sending rose retreating into her gem. This is when pearl has to make a choice. No matter what she’d be shattered. Pink’s wrath when she reforms, white’s when she finds out about what happened. This is a death sentence. But if its a death sentence, its one she’ll choose for herself. she takes rose’s shield and uses the face of it to shatter pink herself, scooping up rose’s gem and getting as far away as fast as she can. This is the start of a war.
Steven: Oh boi. So i love steven, but theres moments where hes just... not good and the story doesnt stop him from doing that. So if were gonna say hes a kid with emotion based powers, we know hes soft and sweet and excitable. sometimes he pushes people too far because hes trying to do what he thinks is best. I want him to wrestle with the fact that his mom, this person everyone says is good, killed someone. she did something so horrible and she never killed anyone again, but she still did it once. I’d like him to get bits and pieces of his mothers memories and so we get to see the world and flashback things that happened in real time. Maybe he tries to talk to pearl about it, but she still wont instead of cant. He feels like an outcast and everyone would rather his mom be there, but they have him instead. basically a lot of his earlier character arc stuff before garnet and pearl talk to him about how homeworld was. They dont think hes old enough to hear about war, but it seems war is coming back and hes unprepared to face it without learning more. he facilitates more interactions with the townies and now its not just a war of gems against gems, they have humans on their side too and they’ll win!

Square Enix has released a new game overview trailer for Marvel’s Avengers, and the latest information about the game has been published on the PlayStation Blog.
Get the details below.
Asymmetrical co-op is a big focus
“We know everyone is wondering how co-op works, and we’re excited to go into more detail in early 2020,” said Crystal Dynamics director Noah Hughes. “However, we can give a quick overview in the meantime! As you see in the video, there are two different types of missions: Hero Missions and Warzone Missions. Hero Missions are single-player only and are part of the overall Campaign. These Hero Missions are specific canvases to showcase each hero as you reassemble them to your growing roster. Warzone Missions can be played solo or with a group of up to four players as any Hero in your roster, allowing you to embody an Avenger within a team of Avengers! Each mission scales based on the team size and makeup.”
“While you’ll be taking control of iconic characters, player choice is important to our experience. Players can customize each of their Hero’s Gear, Skills, and choose from a diverse array of Outfits, all of which creates a personal experience. For instance, one player might play Thor as an AOE damage dealer controlling the crowd, but an ally could build him up primarily focused on melee tactics. It is critical that we deliver the true feeling of being each unique Super Hero—it’s the Avengers after all!”
You can fast-track straight to multiplayer if you want
You can head right into the co-op missions that exist outside of the campaign if you prefer, after completing the introductory “A-Day” battle. “The caveat there is that you’ll be exposed to spoilers” from the campaign, Hughes cautioned.
Your character progress will be persistent between modes
Your character’s progress will persist across different play modes, so you can jump between the campaign and co-op missions whenever you want without missing a beat. You and a friend can also team up online, and the game will scale the difficulty to accommodate.
There are many ways to customize your Super Hero abilities
As you gain levels, you’ll be able to purchase new abilities via skill trees. Though many of these skills will upgrade your attack power, you’ll also be making choices between different build types.
“We have a vast amount of Gear unique to each Super Hero in Marvel’s Avengers, each with its own rarity, stats, and Perks to unlock,” Hughes says. “When we say ‘play your way,’ we mean it. Players can dive deep into min-maxing their hero build through Skills and Gear. Players can switch out Gear and choose which pieces suit individual playstyles as new, better Gear is discovered or earned, allowing them to further tune their playstyle.”
“For Gear—the real powers are found by unlocking their innate Perks. Perks are unique modifiers tied to Gear that augment or enhance how each Super Hero plays—examples of Perks are the ability to unleash an AOE Burst upon taking damage or faster recharging Heroics. In addition, Branded Gear Sets, which enable more custom builds with stat bonuses are present in the game. Gear—and Skills—are a foundational part of our progression system and allow players to really flex their creativity. This, combined with the crazy number of purely cosmetic Outfits available for each Super Hero, will make everyone feel unique. What you’re seeing in the Game Overview video is pre-Alpha so it’s subject to change and evolve as we develop the game.”
New suits will be cosmetic only
The game’s detailed visual customization will allow you to unlock (or purchase) new suits and outfits as you play, but the fashion upgrades won’t affect gameplay. There will be “…no loot boxes, no pay-to-win, you’re not going to be paying money to beat the game or be better at the game,” Hughes clarified.
Outfits will be a combination of fan favorites from comics, the colorful and rich designs present in eighty-plus years of Marvel history and new designs that are completely original to the game.
The growing influence of AIM…
“AIM, or Advanced Idea Mechanics, rises from the ashes of ‘A-Day,’ when many people were affected by the Terrigen mist from the reactor explosion. AIM feels that those affected must be cured,” Hughes says. “A growing public sentiment is shaped that Super Heroes are dangerous and if left unchecked, they could wreak more havoc than good. AIM wants to define mankind’s future with reason, with logic. They believe in science, not Super Heroes, and that this devout purity to science will make the world a safer, stronger place; which also means Super Heroes can’t be left to roam freely.
“Due to this doctrine of science, AIM has mobilized an AI force to protect the rest of us against super powered individuals while claiming to research a cure for those affected by A-Day.”
“Having 80 years of history to draw from, we’ve recreated classic AIM characters from the comic books through the Crystal Dynamics lens, such as the Keeper (our version of the iconic AIM Beekeeper), our version of the Synthoid, or the all new Monotronic Exo; this is how AIM stands toe-to-toe as humans versus Super Heroes. And this is just the start. However… AIM’s pursuit of a technocratic utopia, if left unchecked, could unleash an even greater threat to the world that only the Avengers could stop. It’s up to players to unravel the AIM conspiracy, reassemble the Avengers, and save the Earth.”
The characters are really in-depth
“I am very much enjoying Black Widow the most right now,” says Hughes, “I love her agility and combos. Black Widow’s grapple allows her to zip around, she’s got pistols which give her really good range, and she’s got Widow’s Bite and various equipment as some of her specials…”
“Her gauntlets have special attacks—you may have seen there are a couple Heroics you can trigger through Skills players can modify or upgrade, like her trademark Widow’s Bite. She’s also got her tonfa, which are awesome, and she can also combine them into a deadly bo staff. There’s just a wide and wild range of unique skills she can put into action.”
Post-launch characters will come at no additional cost
Though Crystal Dynamics isn’t discussing the number of post-launch Super Heroes planned, Hughes clarified that sheer quantity itself isn’t the goal. “We treat each of these Heroes as wanting to be able to star in their own game… The truth is the hardest thing is deciding which Heroes to not make.”
Marvel’s Avengers is due out for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia on May 15, 2020.

Log Date 7 15 2 S2E26
To celebrate pride month, let's talk about some wlw/aroace solidarity!
This episode shows some excellent character development for both Garnet and Peridot, with bits of foreshadowing that don’t pay off until Change Your Mind. (Also just as a note, I understand that Aroace!Peridot is a headcanon, one that I personally really relate to because of this episode. I’m not trying to dump on any ships by talking about it this way.)
The episode starts with Peridot having an utter meltdown over betraying Homeworld and insulting Yellow Diamond to her face. She alternates between utter glee and terror at what she’s done, recording her thought about being a “traitorous clod” on a handheld recorder and playing it back incessantly. Steven is trying to talk with her to help her calm down. He asks if she’s going to be alright and she cheerfully yells “No!”. It’s beautiful. She ends up tossing her recorder and Garnet is there to catch it. Garnet offers it back but Peridot has slipped into a mania, wanting nothing to do with the recorder and it’s record of her decent into madness. Garnet carries her off to go calm down while Peridot wonders where she’d add Crystal Gem Stars to her outfit, leaving Steven to wonder when Garnet and Peridot started becoming friends, seeing how Peridot was rather rude about Garnet’s fusion and relationship earlier. We finally got to see the stars, btw. In Change Your Mind, 3 seasons later.
Steven starts listening to Peridot’s log, which goes back about a week to when he first gave it to her. She expresses contempt but ultimately keeps it and starts recording updates on what she’s experiencing on Earth. Also, she stops calling Steven “The Steven”.
Peri Fangs <3
Peridot starts making a study of organic life on Earth, noting how insects like ladybugs can fly. She wonders if all life on Earth can fly. She decides to sneak up on Greg while he’s patching a hole in the barn roof and pushes him off. Garnet, thanks to her future vision, is there to catch him. Garnet scolds Peridot for being reckless but also asks Greg to be forgiving as Peridot doesn’t understand life on Earth yet. Peridot is annoyed by Garnet, still calling her a perma-fusion.
Peridot is then assigned the chore of cleaning up the barn, and in the process finds little green martian boxers. She marvels at appearance modifiers not melded to your body and tries them on, obviously liking the little green alien design. Garnet catches her and compliments her find. Peridot panics and rips the boxers off again. To celebrate her 1 month-aversary on Earth, Steven gifts Peridot with stilts made from coffee cans. She brushes him off rather rudely but later on spends the night pretending to show them off in front of the other Gems. She is slowly adapting to things on Earth. She tries to teach herself humor with a joke book. Next, Steven introduces her to the Camp Pining Hearts sitcom drama. She initially doesn’t understand the romantic expressions of Percy and Paulette but after rewatching the episode repeatedly for almost 3 days straight, is able to explain with in-depth subtext analysis about why Percy and Pierre is the ideal match. Sometime during Peridot’s explanation, Garnet shows up and demonstrates her approval while Steven looks nonplussed. It’s so funny to see Peridot get worked up over maybe 45 minutes worth of a tv show while Steven just gets annoyed by her antics about it. Considering Steven is the one who watched Crying Breakfast Friends all the time earlier in the show. Also, Percy and Paulette seem to be foreshadowing Yellow and Blue fighting in CYM. Percy has a yellow diamond patch on his shirt, and a spiky updo of blond hair while Paulette has long billowy hair and blue teardrops on her bandana. She’s crying and asking why they have to fight, while Percy maintains that it’s a color war so they have to fight. This very much echoes Blue’s emotional responses and Yellow’s logical consideration of White’s rules above her own emotions.
The next entry on the log shows Peridot talking about hanging out with the Gems while working on the drill. Amethyst is goofing off, shape shifted as Lion to spook Peridot. Peridot questions why she would use shapeshifting so frivolously. Amethyst shifts into Peridot to mimic her and Peridot is at least a little impressed. She then asks that Amethyst shift into a chicken so Peridot can understand the chicken crossing the road joke better. Pearl does her best to join the pun game, which Peridot appreciates, even if she’s not terribly impressed by the humor. She still doesn’t understand Garnet’s quiet demeanor but she’s getting better at interacting with the crystal gems.
Later in the evening, Pearl and Amethyst fuse into Opal in order to pick up the drill head. Peridot is confused at another cross gem fusion and demands an explanation from Garnet about why she’s fused if she’s not using her combined talents as a tactical advantage. Garnet says she’s star gazing and invites Peridot to join her. Peridot grumbles that you can do that alone and Garnet says she doesn’t want to be alone.
Garnet points out Homeworld’s galaxy to Peridot. She then remarks that they are very different and she appreciates that. Peridot is confused. Garnet then offers to help Peridot understand fusion by fusing with her. Peridot literally falls out of her seat in shock at the idea. Garnet is respectful, saying it’s okay if Peridot isn’t ready and doesn’t want to fuse. Peridot instead agrees to try. She runs to get her stilts while Garnet sets up a record player. Peridot is a bit hesitant but starts to dance with Garnet. However, she backs out at the last second, saying she can’t do it. And Garnet doesn’t push the issue. Instead, she’s proud of Peridot for attempting to understand her. Peridot yells that she still doesn’t understand and outright asks why Garnet stays fused all the time. Garnet simply replies that she’s Percy and Pierre and suddenly it all clicks for Peridot.
The last log entry is Peridot and Garnet recording together, Peridot explaining that she has come to a better understanding of Garnet as an individual and Garnet telling Steven that he shouldn’t have listened to Peridot’s diary log, but he should probably give it back now. Garnet and Peridot walk back over just then and they all share a thumbs up.
As I said at the beginning, this episode shows a great example of solidarity. Garnet is the depiction of wlw. She’s iconic and a huge fan of fusion as an expression of relationships of all kinds. Fostering relationships is her thing after it's revealed that she’s a fusion. Sapphire and Ruby know oppression and found refuge on Earth. Garnet sees Peridot coming to terms with what it means to live on Earth, and she’s super supportive even though Peridot is incredibly rude about everything she is. Peridot is confused by fusion, especially in the context of Garnet. Garnet is willing to be patient with Peridot and respects her boundaries. Peridot doesn’t end up fusing, and that’s okay because her attempt to understand Garnet was enough. Peridot’s relationship with fusion is coded much like an aroace person’s experience with romantic love and sex. It just doesn’t make sense. Maybe if you’re trying to make a kid but why would you want to be in that kind of close interpersonal relationship all the time? She doesn’t get fusion and Garnet shows her that she doesn’t need the experience to respect those who do use fusion to express their relationships. This is the kind of love and support that everyone deserves and it is amazing to see this show dedicate a whole episode to exploring how people of varying identities can respect and support each other.

Let’s Try That Again; The 10 Best Horror Movie Remakes
The horror movie remake is a polarizing topic that drives the horror community crazy. You either love remakes, or hate them. Few horror movie re-imaginings have been able to rise above their “remake” branding. Too many fans chalking their existence up to exploiting a film or franchise’s existing fandom, being made purely for profit, being rushed, or re-envisioning iconic characters to a lesser extent.
Despite not being received with open arms, there are a select few remakes that stand above the pack – converting their audiences of naysayers into rabid fans, re-invigorating the franchise they birthed from. Here are our picks for the 10 best horror movie remakes!
10. Friday the 13th (2009)
Against the advice of locals and police, Clay (Jared Padalecki) scours the eerie woods surrounding Crystal Lake for his missing sister. But the rotting cabins of an abandoned summer camp are not the only things he finds. Hockey-masked killer Jason Voorhees lies in wait for a chance to use his razor-sharp machete on Clay and the group of college students who have come to the forest to party.
Alright, I may get a lot of flack for putting this one on the list. But I really do love the Friday the 13th remake. It’s over the top, it’s got everything you want in a slasher, and there’s exactly 13 kills. While it doesn’t hold a torch to the original from 1980, this 2009 remake directed by Marcus Nispel ain’t half bad. There’s some really fun kills and a bit of back story about Jason.
9. Piranha 3D (2010)
Spring break turns gory when an underground tremor releases hundreds of prehistoric, carnivorous fish into Lake Victoria, a popular waterside resort. Local cop Julie Forester (Elisabeth Shue) must join forces with a band of unlikely strangers — though they are badly outnumbered — to destroy the ravenous creatures before everyone becomes fish food.
Piranha 3D is the perfect summer film! The original was released in 1978 and was titled simply Piranha. In 2010 we got a 3D remake that took the thriller element from the original and added way more boobs. And humor. And blood. Piranha 3D is a cheesy gore-fest. Directed by Alexandre Aja, it has an all-star cast including Richard Dreyfuss, Christopher Lloyd and Jerry O’Connell. A great flick to watch in a group while vacationing at a lake. Just make sure to maybe check there’s not another lake under that lake.. filled with ancient piranhas.
8. Quarantine (2008)
Reporter Angela (Jennifer Carpenter) and her cameraman Scott (Steve Harris) are doing a story on night-shift firefighters for a reality-TV program. A late-night distress call takes them to a Los Angeles apartment building, where the police are investigating a report of horrific screams. The TV team and emergency workers find an old woman, who suddenly attacks with teeth bared. What’s more, Angela and company find that the building has been sealed by CDC workers. Then the attacks really begin.
[REC] (2007) is a Spanish found footage film directed by Jaume Balagueró. The film is absolutely terrifying and exactly how found footage should be done. One year later came the American remake Quarantine, directed by John Erick Dowdle. Both films follow the exact same story, so there’s not a lot of surprises watching the American remake. Both films also set up for a bunch of sequels, some of which are really great. The American version stars Jennifer Carpenter in the lead role, who does a great job carrying the story. I won’t say much more because both of these films should be watched with no prior knowledge of the story. The first time I saw the ending was one of the few times I’ve screamed out loud while watching a horror film. I apologized profusely to my neighbors.
7. Evil Dead (2013)
Mia (Jane Levy), a drug addict, is determined to kick the habit. To that end, she asks her brother, David (Shiloh Fernandez), his girlfriend, Natalie (Elizabeth Blackmore) and their friends Olivia (Jessica Lucas) and Eric (Lou Taylor Pucci) to accompany her to their family’s remote forest cabin to help her through withdrawal. Eric finds a mysterious Book of the Dead at the cabin and reads aloud from it, awakening an ancient demon. All hell breaks loose when the malevolent entity possesses Mia.
Sam Raimi’s The Evil Dead was originally released in 1981. A campy, low-budget film that became an instant cult classic. In 2013, Fede Alverez’s re-imagined the beloved story of Ash and his deadites, creating a darker, more sinister interpretation. One of the biggest changes, was opting for an incredible female lead played by Jan Levy. The film is deliciously dark, and only embellishes the silly, zany palate of the Evil Dead Franchise. There’s been a lot of chatter about a sequel being in the works, but nothing concrete.
6. Willard (2003)
Desperate for companionship, the repressed Willard (Crispin Glover) befriends a group of rats that inhabit his late father’s deteriorating mansion. In these furry creatures, Willard finds temporary refuge from daily abuse at the hands of his bedridden mother (Jackie Burroughs) and his father’s old partner, Frank (R. Lee Ermey). Soon it becomes clear that the brood of rodents is ready and willing to exact a vicious, deadly revenge on anyone who dares to bully their sensitive new master.
Willard was released in 1973 and the remake came years later to screens in 2003. It stars Crispin Glover in one of his best roles, and a crap tone of rats. Glen Morgan directed this awesome remake and fills it with everything you’d want in a terrifying situation about killer rats. Glover shines on-screen as a total weirdo and carries the film with perfection. If you weren’t scared of rats before, you will be after this flick ends.
5. The Grudge (2004)
Matthew Williams (William Mapother), his wife, Jennifer (Clea DuVall), and mother, Emma (Grace Zabriskie), are Americans making a new life in Tokyo. Together they move into a house that has been the site of supernatural occurrences in the past, and it isn’t long before their new home begins terrorizing the Williams family as well. The house, as it turns out, is the site of a curse that lingers in a specific place and claims the lives of anyone that comes near.
An American remake from the Japanese original Ju-On: The Grudge released in 2002. The remake, directed by Takashi Shimizu, the same person who directed the original, is terrifying. Back in the early 2000’s it was harder for North Americans to access J-horror and horror audiences were grateful for an accessible remake. Starring Sarah Michelle Geller in the lead role, she carries the story with grace. There’s so many memorable moments and jump scares. While I do recommend The Grudge, I say go crazy and watch both the original and remake one after the other. Have the pants scared off of you!
4. The Fly (1986)
When scientist Seth Brundle (Jeff Goldblum) completes his teleportation device, he decides to test its abilities on himself. Unbeknownst to him, a housefly slips in during the process, leading to a merger of man and insect. Initially, Brundle appears to have undergone a successful teleportation, but the fly’s cells begin to take over his body. As he becomes increasingly fly-like, Brundle’s girlfriend (Geena Davis) is horrified as the person she once loved deteriorates into a monster.
Originally released in 1958, it was a long time before The Fly remake came around in 1986. The original movie was adapted from a short story written by George Langelaan. The remake was directed by the always impressive David Cronenberg and starred Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis. Both brought insane performances to this movie which makes it such a great remake. Of course, it is Cronenberg, so…you know…don’t eat while you’re watching it.
3. Dawn of the Dead (2004)
When her husband is attacked by a zombified neighbor, Ana (Sarah Polley) manages to escape, only to realize her entire Milwaukee neighborhood has been overrun by the walking dead. After being questioned by cautious policeman Kenneth (Ving Rhames), Ana joins him and a small group that gravitates to the local shopping mall as a bastion of safety. Once they convince suspicious security guards that they are not contaminated, the group bands together to fight the undead hordes.
The original Dawn of the Dead was a fantastic, beautiful, groundbreaking film from Romero, released in 1978. The remake came in 2004, helmed by James Gunn and Zack Snyder. What stands out about this remake is how far they veer from the source material. But it works! The film boasts a strong cast featuring Sarah Polley, Ving Rhames, and Jake Weber, to name a few. There’s also some heart-breaking moments and genuine scares. Oh, and zombies. Lots of those.
2. The Ring (2002)
It sounds like just another urban legend — a videotape filled with nightmarish images leads to a phone call foretelling the viewer’s death in exactly seven days. Newspaper reporter Rachel Keller (Naomi Watts) is skeptical of the story until four teenagers all die mysteriously exactly one week after watching just such a tape. Allowing her investigative curiosity to get the better of her, Rachel tracks down the video and watches it. Now she has just seven days to unravel the mystery.
Another J-horror American remake. Ringu was first released in 1998 based on the book Ring by Koji Suzuki. In 2002, along came The Ring directed by Gore Verbinski. This was a huge deal for us teenagers in the early 2000’s and made us all terrified of our landlines. The Ring is beautifully shot and colored mystery. It’s a wonderfully done film. It stars Naomi Watts as the mother fighting to save herself and her child, played by David Dorfman.
1. The Thing (1982)
In remote Antarctica, a group of American research scientists are disturbed at their base camp by a helicopter shooting at a sled dog. When they take in the dog, it brutally attacks both human beings and canines in the camp and they discover that the beast can assume the shape of its victims. A resourceful helicopter pilot (Kurt Russell) and the camp doctor (Richard Dysart) lead the camp crew in a desperate, gory battle against the vicious creature before it picks them all off, one by one.
You didn’t think I’d make this list without The Thing did you? Come on! Originally titled The Thing from Another World and released in 1951, the remake was done by John Carpenter in 1982. The Thing is probably the one film everyone will agree on. It’s perfection on-screen. Giant, snowy, cold landscapes filled with unbearable tension and fear. An outstanding performance from all involved – but Kurt Russell stands out on top. Amazing practical effects and a terrifying premise, The Thing is the penultimate remake. They actually remade this again in 2011, but let’s not talk about that..

14 Romantic Photo Ops at Disney World
With engagement season coming to a close, many couples are heading to the Happiest Place on Earth to experience the magic of their favorite movies. It’s the perfect place to capture romantic photo ops in front of the castle, revisit classic stories from your childhood, and let the world know you are ready to spend the rest of your life with that special someone. With stunning backdrops and the ever-present feeling of nostalgia, it’s no wonder Disney World’s Magic Kingdom is one of the most popular locations for proposals in the United States. Even more, a trip to Disney with your significant other is about being yourself and building your unique fairytale romance. Part of that experience is deciding on the most memorable photo spots to showcase your relationship. Whether it’s about revealing common interests, immortalizing where you first met, or creating your very own love story, the perfect venue comes from finding something that represents you as a couple. Below are 14 dreamy picture opportunities for couples to enjoy throughout Disney World Parks and Resorts all year long. Table of Contents 1. Port Orleans Magical Photo Spots One of my favorite resorts to stay at is Disney’s Port Orleans. Staying here, no matter which side you choose, is like getting two fantastic locations for the price of one. The food alone at Port Orleans French Quarter is enough to make the mouth water, especially with menu items like Mickey-shaped beignets, Jambalaya, and Crawfish Étouffée. Toss in the wrought-iron balconies and gates lined with gas lamps, along with all the excitement of Mardi Gras, and it's your very own dream come true.
Photo by Victoria Smith Add to the magic by dressing up as your favorite Princess and the Frog characters, like Victoria Smith and her very own Prince Naveen. While they are on their way to Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party in this photo, dressing up at Disney is always a great way to start a photoshoot. See more of Victoria's photos here!
Lindsay and Cody at Disney's Port Orleans Resort - Riverside
Engagement Photos taken by Nathan Root Photography What really sells the magic is the quaint splendor of Riverside. With a stunning backdrop of the Sassagoula River, lush greenery, and architecture set in the style of stately Southern mansions, this side of the resort has plenty to offer in terms of picturesque beauty. To see more of Lindsay and Cody’s lovely engagement photos taken by Nathan Root at Riverside, visit her Instagram. 2. Epcot: Spaceship Earth Photo Op for Couples The most recognizable part of Disney’s Epcot, the Spaceship Earth globe, is not something many think of as romantic right away. However, the origins of the park, and what the icon stands for, are undeniably similar to aspirations as a couple. The park itself initially aimed at being a fully functioning community where innovation and progress thrived.

Stephen and Emily Mildner: Photo Taken by Randy Chapman Today, Epcot still stands as a beacon of creativity, forward-thinking, and inspires a love for the earth and all those who inhabit it. An engineering marvel, the Spaceship Earth ride and the globe many affectionally call a “golf ball” are a striking example of all that Epcot embodies. Imagination meeting compassion and striving toward a better tomorrow, who doesn’t want that?
Ellen and Joshua Smock at Disney's Epcot 3. Animal Kingdom: Tree of Life Legend has it that the Tree of Life grew from a seed planted by an ant. This tiny insect wanted nothing more than to bring shelter to all the animals in a barren land. His wish for the tree to grow came true, and the images of every animal the baobab tree harbored soon materialized on its trunk. The legend is just a glimpse of the magic and natural wonder we feel when faced with a marvel like the Tree of Life. While we know this tale to be the work of some of the best storytellers in the industry, its theme of wishes, growth, and life are all very real images. And what better scenery is there for couples than a symbol of unity and family?
Devan Spinner and Richard Gonzalez at Disney's Animal Kingdom
Danielle Kendrick and Randy Scudder at Disney's Animal Kingdom The great thing about the Tree of Life is that there are plenty of different places to pose for the ideal snapshot. Below are some of the best places to start. In Front of the Tree: This is the obvious choice. Though whether you take the photo right at the base of the tree or far enough to catch the bustling mercantile shops in the shot is up to you. Walking Trails: There are numerous walking trails winding around the tree, all of which offer an up-close view of the intricate details on the tree’s trunk. You won’t get the full view, but it’s a unique perspective on a beautiful architectural piece.
Stefanie and Daniel Gutierrez III in front of the Tree of Life at Disney's Animal Kingdom Pathway Between Africa and Asia: When passing between the two continents, a fantastic view of the tree emerges across the river. Not only does this viewpoint come with a PhotoPass photographer willing to take your photo, but you get to see a whole new set of animals carved into the trunk, as well. Nighttime “Awakenings” Show: If you stay at Animal Kingdom long enough, then the opportunity to see the “Awakenings” light show on the tree is one you can’t pass up. Gorgeous streams of color illuminate the park icon, bringing to life the spirits of playful animals who inhabit the tree and enact fun, little stories for guests to enjoy.

Magic Kingdom: Fantasyland Princess Locations The expansion of Fantasyland back in 2012 brought a whole new assortment of magical photo spots with the addition of beloved Disney princess scenes. Among these enchanting locales is Prince Eric’s Castle from Disney’s The Little Mermaid, as well as Gaston’s Tavern and Beast’s Castle from Beauty and the Beast. All are a great way to dive into the story of some of Disney’s most celebrated classics with your very own princess or Prince Charming. You can also spice things up with adorable “His & Her” t-shirts or costumes.

Especially if you are celebrating an engagement, these characters are more than happy to make your experience a magical one. Depending on the crowds, the princesses are a fun way to interact with storybook characters, take fun engagement poses, and receive personalized signatures to commemorate the occasion.

Hollywood Studios: Star Wars Galaxy's Edge Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opened in Florida last year and has been a frequent location for tourists and locals alike. There are numerous photo locations for couples that allow them to step into one of their favorite movie franchises, including the famous shot with the Millennium Falcon outside of Smuggler’s Run.

Cody Simmons and Sarah Newman outside Smuggler's Run at Hollywood Studios One of the best things about finding that special someone to share your life with is having someone who also shares your interests. If you’ve found someone who loves Baby Yoda as much as you do, they’re a keeper. When you tell them, “I love you,” do they respond with “I know?” You’ve found the one! So feel free to geek out as much as you want in a location that represents something you both love. And even if your significant other doesn’t quite understand why everyone keeps saying “Bright Suns,” then this is still the perfect opportunity to share something you love with them. Until then, may the spires keep you.
Danielle Kendrick and Randy Scudder outside Smuggler's Run at Hollywood Studios 6. Yacht & Beach Club Romantic Photo Ops An often overlooked venue is Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resorts. While many newlyweds immediately think of places like the Grand Floridian or Disney’s Polynesian, the Yacht & Beach Club provides just as many lovely picture opportunities for couples who love the appeal of the seaside. Modeled after New England retreats like Martha’s Vineyard and Cape May, the resort is a romantic getaway complete with elegant lighthouses, a stunning pier, and a view of the beach. While barricades and ropes now line the rim of the lagoon, it’s still an excellent backdrop for those wanting a taste of coastal charm.
Joshua and Ellen Smock at Yacht & Beach Club 7. Disney Duo Character Photos for Couples While we already talked about posing with the Disney princesses for a fun photo excursion, another great way to bring character to your social media posts is by posing with popular duos. Characters like Anastasia and Drizella, Cinderella’s stepsisters, capitalize on magical moments with their hilarious take on…well, everything! Other character meet-and-greets like Mickey and Minnie are a great way to illustrate the sweet side of your relationship.
Cody Simmons and Sarah Newman at Adventurer's Outpost While Toy Story characters Woody and Buzz no longer do meet-and-greets together, Woody now greets guests with his love interest, Bo Peep. Some other fun character duos to meet throughout the parks are listed below. Character Duo Meet-and-Greet Locations: Aladdin and Jasmine: Agrabah Marketplace, Adventureland at Magic Kingdom Anastasia and Drizella: Castle Wall, Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom Anna and Elsa: Royal Sommerhus, Norway at Epcot Bo Peep and Woody: Toy Story Land at Hollywood Studios Chip and Dale: DinoLand U.S.A. at Disney’s Animal Kingdom & Hollywood Boulevard at Disney’s Hollywood Studios Mickey and Minnie: Adventurer’s Outpost at Animal Kingdom Mike and Sulley: Animation Courtyard at Hollywood Studios
Kristin and Eric Trusso at Disney's Hollywood Studios 8. Polynesian Resort Memorable Photo Spots Say “Aloha” to paradise with a trip to Disney’s Polynesian Resort. This island-themed getaway is brimming with romantic photo ops. Think volcano pools with cascading waterfalls, colorful and exotic landscaping, and lazy beaches with hammocks and swings galore. There’s even a spectacular view of the castle and a great location to watch fireworks at night. Plus, cast members distribute free leis to guests at check-in, as well as to those dining at Disney’s Spirit of Aloha dinner show. So slipping seamlessly into the feel of a Hawaiian vacation is a breeze.

Photo of Couple on the Beach at Polynesian Resort Even if you don’t stay on-site at the Polynesian Resort, it’s still one of the best places to get a bite to eat. Here is a glimpse of what you’ll find on your culinary journey into this tropical retreat. Capt. Cooks: Counter-service breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Kona Island: Serves pastries and coffee for breakfast, and made-to-order sushi in the afternoon. Oasis Bar & Grill: A lunch and bar service that serves fare from burgers to salads. ‘Ohana: Offers character breakfasts with Lilo and Stitch, and Hawaiian style dinners with fun, themed activities for dinner. Pineapple Lanai: A great place to get the famous Dole Whip! Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show: A dining experience complete with hula dancers and fire dancing. Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace: A great place to enjoy live music while you sit back and enjoy your tasty beverages.

Magic Kingdom: Rapunzel Lanterns Fairytale Photos One of the most mesmerizing moments in a Disney movie is the floating lantern ceremony in Tangled. Not only is it visually dazzling to watch all those glowing lights soar off into the night sky, but it’s a touching scene where Flynn Rider and Rapunzel realize they’ve fallen in love with one another. Right outside Rapunzel’s Tower in Magic Kingdom’s Fantasyland, guests recreate this same magical experience with a lantern of their own. These fairytale photos allow couples to step into the beauty of their own love story and “see the light” in a whole new way.

Animal Kingdom: Africa Adventure Photos As you enter the streets of Harambe, the sights and sounds of Africa greet you with an intoxicating allure. Whether they inspire you to dance, shop, or enjoy a quick bite to eat, the surroundings instantly enchant all those who arrive. With exciting walking trails, safari rides, and the Festival of the Lion King all in one area, a visit to Harambe is one of the best ways to show off your adventurous side as a couple.

Epcot: World Showcase Imagine sharing a baguette with your favorite person in front of the fountain in France, a magnificent view of the Eiffel Tower poised behind you. Or perhaps, you're getting lost in the geometric splendor and mosaic tiles of Morocco's architecture. These captivating glimpses of culture allow couples to capture extraordinary moments without the equally incredible price tag.

Not only does it transport guests to the glitter and glitz of Hollywood, but it also transports them to another era. Nothing captures this timeless feeling more than the replica of Grauman’s Chinese Theater. Many of you may recognize this architectural treasure as the home of the late Great Movie Ride. While we all anxiously await the new Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway ride opening in March, the Great Movie Ride will forever hold a special place in the hearts of so many.

In fact, many couples have even found their soulmates here. Replicating the walkway of 1920’s leading ladies and men, the courtyard of the theater is complete with authentic handprints and signatures from contemporary actors, all of which lead up to an entrance protected by two guardian lions. It’s the perfect place to capture all the age and timelessness of the golden age of movies. “Here’s looking at you, kid.”

Billy Archiello and Courtney May in Dapper Day Attire 13. Grand Floridian Resort Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort is undoubtedly one of the most romantic locations on site. Beyond its luxurious Victorian lobby, white sandy beaches, and a view of Cinderella’s Castle, it even has its own Wedding Pavilion. The most frequently booked wedding location at the park, the site is designed to celebrate your special day in style.

Couple Enjoying a Stroll Down Walkway Outside Grand Floridian Wedding Pavilion According to Disney’s website, the cost is $5,000 for the venue alone, with a $10,000 minimum for the event. All of this is nothing compared to the $30,000 wedding ceremony in front of the castle after hours. Though the total cost runs more along the lines of $75,000, minimum. The good news is you don’t have to shell out a ton of cash to enjoy the beauty and elegance that goes with the fairytale weddings at Disney’s Grand Floridian. The grounds typically remain open to the public, unless there is a wedding in progress, which means snapping that romantic photo op is well within reach. If not, there are still plenty of gorgeous locations around the rest of the resort.
Stuart and Pamela Kennedy at Disney's Wedding Pavilion 14. Magic Kingdom: Cinderella's Castle The most memorable photo spot in all of Disney World is Cinderella’s Castle. It’s the first thing people imagine when they think of romantic picture locations, and one of the primary reasons guests come from all over to celebrate their engagement there. I mean, it’s a castle! Primarily inspired by the Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany, the overall design incorporates styles and features from numerous time periods and architecture to construct a genuinely timeless look fit for a princess.

Proposal Between Krystal Cyr and Heather Birkland by Cinderella's Castle Proposing at Disney is such a big deal that the company even created a website dedicated to ensuring your proposal goes off without a hitch. The Disney Weddings site offers everything from intimate dining experiences to a full-scale, customizable itinerary. So whether you need a little extra help surprising your significant other with a proposal, or want to celebrate after the fact, the site consists of a wealth of resources to guide your journey. Even if you just want some inspiration, there's a helpful wedding blog and dream board offered through the site. As the centerpiece of the entire park, there are plenty of outstanding locations to make this icon the backdrop of your picturesque proposal. Here are just a few of our favorites. Yes, Those Were Words - The Doctor Who Never Was
WARNING: Lengthy Post Which Involves Things You May/May Not Need To Know.
YouTube Version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wa28cfSi5GI
Welcome to “Yes, Those Were Words”, the series within RaMoaN where I talk about the things that make my mind bend to the nth degree in order to figure out where common sense ends and madness begins. When last I talked about Doctor Who, I talked about the Eighth Doctor’s first and only on screen appearance until 2013’s “The Night of The Doctor”. Here’s a brief recap of my opinion of the made for TV film “Doctor Who: The Enemy Within”:
“Why? Why? Why? Oh, that looks nice. Why? Why? Why? Oh God. Why? Why? Ew. Why? Why? Why? Are you kidding me right now? WHY?!”
As you can see, my opinion isn’t exactly a positive one. While the film had it’s moments where it captivated me, everything else only succeeded in annoying me. For a more in depth look at my opinion, you can start here or watch the new YouTube version here. Now, we all know that the movie failed so hard that Paul McGann’s Doctor was banished to the realm that is Big Finish Productions (which is not necessarily a bad thing), but did you know that there was a plan for The Doctor had the TV movie actually succeeded? Neither did I until I discovered a something called “the Leekley Bible”.
The Leekley Bible is a document originally created and proposed by John Leekley, an American writer who met with Philip Segal, the man behind The TV Movie, on the Universal movie lot. What soon followed was the two being forced by Universal to work together on making the TV Movie, and subsequently the document that would become a bible some time in 1994. While it is nice to know that there was a plan for a series after the film, the ideas for the series itself were as much of a mess as The TV Movie. So, what exactly did Leekley and Segal have in mind? Well, we’re about to take a look. Keep in mind, I am not making any of this up.
Firstly, the new series was meant to be a complete reboot of the franchise starring Paul McGann as The Doctor. Already, we have a red flag due to a continuity error. How is Paul McGann supposed to play The Doctor if he is not the same Doctor from The TV Movie? Any fan of the original series who had seen the film would have been confused as to how The Doctor does not know about certain things his character had been in contact with in the previous series. Maybe this would have worked better if The TV Movie just starred Paul McGann as The Doctor, but Segal had to have Sylvester Mccoy pass down his role as The Doctor for the sake of continuity. So, in other words, The TV Movie and The Reboot are not linked in any way whatsoever apart from Paul McGann. We haven’t even gotten into the meat of the Leekley Bible, and already the series has fallen apart.
So, what would have been the story for this series? Well, it turns out The Doctor and The Master are half-brothers and are both the sons of a legendary explorer named Ulysses. He thus needs to explore the whole of time and space with his grandfather Borusa (who is essentially Zordon from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, as he is inside a Time Crystal within the TARDIS), and restore peace and balance to the universe after The Master becomes the Lord-President of Gallifrey. While there is certainly potential in a story like this, the plot somewhat undermines an important part of the franchise: it’s name. Doctor Who. The title of the franchise is a question, one which nearly everyone in the show asks from time to time. No one knows that much about The Doctor, in spite of some hints and clues sprinkled here and there. In spite of episodes that take place on Gallifrey and ideas like The Cartmel Masterplan (which you can learn more about on Radio Dead Air via this link), not much is known about The Doctor. Why would this series go out of it’s way to answer that question from the first episode? And before anyone says “Because reboot, shut up”, this reboot was being made by a man who had been trying to revive Doctor Who before it was even cancelled in the first place. That’s right, Segal was a massive fanboy who wanted to bring back Doctor Who, and in the process made not one but two stories that completely dismantles pre-established Doctor Who lore, which I assumed Segal liked otherwise he wouldn’t have taken interest in reviving the series in the first place. Maybe a nerd more dedicated than myself can explain how this was supposed to work, but in the meantime I’ll just shake my head at this nonsense. And, again, we’re barely getting started.
The episodes that had been planned at the time this reboot was conceived were mainly remakes of episodes from the classic series, ranging from the Pilot episode adapted from the classic Genesis of the Daleks, Fang Rock (a remake of The Horror of Fang Rock), and Tomb of the Cybs. Yes, Cybs. Not Cybermen, Cybs. What are Cybs? Well, Cybs are essentially the Cybermen of this reboot, but not as...well, Cyber. Essentially, the Cybs were a race of partially cybernetic pirates. Yes, rather than be a metaphor for humans discarding their humanity aside to become what they perceived as stronger, the Cybs were just pirates with robot bits here and there.
And the horrible choices don’t stop there, as even the Daleks, the most iconic character of the franchise, got a redesign as well. Rather than be the death machines piloted by the mutated remains of a dead world, the reboot made them into Transformers. No joke, according to the concept sketches found in the Leekley Bible and a test animation found on YouTube, the Daleks had numerous modes dictated by circumstances.
If they were mobile, they took on their iconic egg shape.
When communicating, they would slightly open up to reveal a human head in order to speak.
And when they wanted to kill something, they would completely open up to reveal...a thing. I’m not sure what to call this, but it is not a Dalek. Maybe it’s what Doctor Octopus would have been if he were Spider Man, but it is not a Dalek. You know what I call it? A bad idea.
So, in the end, what would Doctor Who had been had the TV Movie succeeded? A series where a half-human Doctor would be searching time and space for his dad while the Master tried to block his enemy’s way with iconic monsters who were no longer iconic due to redesigns. Do you not see how ridiculous this would have been? While reboots are sometimes necessary in order to liven up a franchise, some ideas for said reboots are not as well received as others. This is why, in spite of it’s numerous flaws, I will tolerate what the fandom calls New-Who above what would have been. Heck, New-Who does things better than the reboot. There was talk about the Daleks possibly discovering and inevitably fighting the Time Lords on Gallifrey within the Leekley Bible. This actually did come to pass, as there was The Time War between Paul McGann’s run as The Doctor and Christopher Eccleston’s debut in 2005.
However, all of this doesn’t mean that everything involving the Eighth Doctor was absolute tripe. As I mentioned before, Paul McGann has worked with the people of Big Finish Productions to create an exclusive series of audio drama adventures which are more or less disconnected with the movie and the series that never was. No mentions of being half-human, no Master being a slimey Lord-President of Gallifrey, just The Doctor on some adventures with a multitude of companions like Charlie Pollard and Lucie Millar. If you want to listen to some of these adventures, I highly recommend stories like Invaders from Mars and Chimes of Midnight, both of which have a $2.99 price tag and are absolutely remarkable for their own reasons.
In the meantime, never stop rambling,
TM

Over her four-decade-long career, artist Kiki Smith has made sculptures of body parts, tapestries depicting animals and the cosmos, and drawings of wolves and women—a strange confluence of the corporeal and the fantastic, with distinct feminist undertones. Smith is known as a leader of the downtown art scene that emerged in Manhattan throughout the 1980s, and many of her pieces have a dark fairy-tale quality—as if they could illustrate pages from the Brothers Grimm. I expected for the artist herself to have a bit of magic about her.
So I was surprised, on a recent visit to Smith’s East Village apartment, to watch her scratch at a piece of plexiglass for over an hour with hands tattooed with little turquoise dots. It was a rainy Tuesday afternoon, and Smith was working on a print for an upcoming exhibition at the Deste Foundation in Greece. Each dutiful scratch emphasized just how banal and unmagical the process of artmaking can truly be.

Smith said that the scratch marks would ultimately result in multiple prints and sculptures of a capricorn—the mythical figure with a goat’s body and fish’s tail that is also the artist’s astrological sign. Indeed, she’s known for her seriality, spinning concepts and images into one work after another, until something new piques her interest. Her sources of inspiration remain in flux, but Smith’s work itself tends to revolve around the body, death, mythology, and nature. Rumpelstiltskin may have been able to weave hay into gold, but there’s no alchemy to Smith’s practice: just hours of making, year after year.
When I visit Smith, she’s in the midst of multiple projects in addition to the Deste show, among them an exhibition entitled “Murmur” at Pace Gallery (through March 30th). She’s still finalizing the details.
“Sometimes I have things that I want to do,” she says breezily. “But in general, I just go through the space, and then that tells you what to do.” She sounds laissez-faire, and there is a level of unpredictability to her planning: One venue might inspire a full body of work, while another might require a grouping of previous series into a new conceptual whole.

There’s little art in Smith’s studio, so she shows me an image of a sculpture, bound for the Pace show, on her phone. It’s a jagged, triangular black form with multipoint stars emerging from the surface. It looks like a fallen-over Christmas tree: simultaneously stark, rough, and hopeful.
“That’s a wave,” Smith says. It doesn’t resemble any wave I’ve ever seen. Yugoslavian World War II monuments, called spomenik, inspired the shape, she says, showing me a picture of one of these, too, on her phone: two craggy stone hunks that emerge from the earth parallel to each other, then fan outward.
“I just think those sculptures are very beautiful,” she says. “They’re culturally very different from how we make memorials.” The water was a particular draw for Smith.
“Water holds memories,” she says. Her explanations, like her work, are often simultaneously lyrical and opaque.

Smith was born into an artistic family. She was born in Germany, where her mother, Jane Lawrence, was working as an opera singer. In 1955, when the artist was one year old, her family moved to New Jersey, where she spent the remainder of her childhood. Her father, Tony Smith, was an artist, known for his own monumental black sculptures. He rose to prominence in the mid-1960s, and curator Kynaston McShine included him in “Primary Structures,” the Jewish Museum’s iconic 1966 show on American and British Minimalism. He also showed at the Venice Biennale and multiple Whitney Annuals (the predecessor to the Whitney Biennial) during his lifetime.
Smith began her artistic apprenticeship earlier than most of her peers: Along with her sisters Seton and Beatrice, she helped her father in his studio from a young age. In 1974, she enrolled in Connecticut’s Hartford Art School, yet she dropped out after just three semesters and settled back into Manhattan. Smith says she was around age 24 when she decided to become a professional artist.
“I didn’t know what else to do particularly. I liked making things,” she says.

She joined an artist collaborative called Colab (short for Collaborative Projects Inc.)—Tom Otterness and Jenny Holzer were also members—and she worked odd jobs. Still scratching at the plexiglass between moments of eye contact, Smith says that one of these jobs, working as an electrician’s assistant, led her to consider life, art, and the body anew.
“Electricity is like a pulse,” she says. “Our bodies are electrical systems. Everything is going positive, negative, positive, negative. That gives you the chance to change your life. It’s not a continuum.”
The delicate work required a meticulousness that remains evident in her practice, and the insights it offered into power and the body worked their way into Smith’s first solo presentation, “Life Wants to Live,” at the alternative performance space The Kitchen in 1982. It honored women who’d fought back against male assailants—and killed them.
“If you made one thing and could really be satisfied, then you could stop and do something more interesting than sitting in your house scratching things.”
Smith sourced headlines about such incidents from the New York Post, then painted them on gauze. The feminist movement was still wrangling with how to deal with violent men and pornography, and fracturing as they disagreed about both issues; Smith’s work tapped into the zeitgeist. She recalls Andrea Dworkin speaking out against pornography—a topic that can still polarize the feminist community. Smith herself once handed out Valerie Solanas’s 1968 publication “The SCUM Manifesto,” which called for men’s destruction, at a former Lower East Side community center called Charas.
“They kicked me out because they said that it’s reactionary,” Smith recalls. In general, she now advocates for a gentler approach to life. “If you can avoid extreme anything, it’s probably better,” she says. “But not everyone is afforded that.”
Smith included her own body in the show via a series of X-rays she made with her friend, David Wojnarowicz—another major downtown figure, who received a posthumous Whitney retrospective last year. The pair visited a medical testing lab in Brooklyn (run by Marvin Numeroff, who was also a gallerist), turned on the machine, and captured themselves beating each other up. She remembers Numeroff telling her afterwards: “You should have been wearing shields for your genitals in case you want to reproduce.” “It was like, ‘Oh, thanks for telling us now,’” she says.

Reproduction itself was very much on Smith’s mind: She first visited Numeroff’s lab to look at sperm. “You’d look at them under the microscope,” she says, “and it’s so extraordinary because it’s just like life, teeming, moving.” Later, she made hundreds of lead-crystal sculptures of sperm (Untitled, 1989–90).
Years of body-part art followed: terracotta ribs, an iron digestive system, a glass stomach, a plaster pregnant belly. In 1988, Smith’s sister Beatrice died of AIDS; Wojnarowicz succumbed to the illness in 1992. Many have drawn connections between these profound losses and the work and exhibitions that Smith put out in the years that followed. But Smith downplays the deaths’ influence.
“You experience it privately, the loss of a person,” she says.
Smith says that she does think about presence and absence in her work. She also made panels for the AIDS Memorial Quilt (a massive public project, initiated in 1985, that commemorates those affected by the disease) for both her sister and Wojnarowicz.

Throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s, Smith examined the body not just as a site of external violence, but as a vessel that could betray its owner. An untitled, red-ink-on-paper work from 1988 resembles a dismembered, bloody corpse hanging from the wall in pieces: torso, legs, and arms all dangle separately. Another horror film–worthy piece, Blood Pool (1992), is a wax, gauze, and pigment sculpture of a nude woman curled up on the floor. The glossy, uneven, red-and-yellow surface gives the appearance of a figure stripped of its skin. Its arms, sans hands, fold into its legs. The sculpture’s rawness and vulnerability make for a cringe-inducing viewing experience.

Smith looked beyond humans to animal bodies, as well. In her 1990 work Dowry Cloth, she stitched together patches of sheep wool and human hair. Hanging on the wall in a loose rectangular shape, the highly textured, unevenly hued piece resembles a dirty tapestry. In 1994, she met a scientist who told her “how many mammals were projected to be extinct in the next 40 years. I thought I should rather pay attention to that,” she recalls. Smith visited Harvard and began making drawings at the university’s Peabody Museum of Natural History. Over the next few years, she sculpted blackbirds and wolves, incorporating them into prints and drawings, as well.

Academics interpreting Smith’s work have alternately viewed the animals as symbols or allegorical figures, as attempts to unite the human and non-human natural world, or as invocations of savagery. Yet Julia Bryan-Wilson, who wrote about Smith on the occasion of her 2018 exhibition at Haus der Kunst in Munich, opts for a different reading.
“Much of Smith’s art with animals introduces a queer uncertainty around sex difference,” Bryan-Wilson writes. After fixating for so long on gender and sexuality, she suggests, Smith opted to represent life in a way that transcended the binary.
Smith herself is more expansive and less prescriptive about her approach. “I think about animals in a much more abstract way than they might experience themselves,” Smith says. “I don’t think about their gender very often.” Yet she tells me that she did, recently, make a sculpture of mating deer—her old interest in reproduction and new life seeping into her contemporary practice.

Meanwhile, Smith was also creating small sculptures and drawings of women. They faint, entangle themselves in stars, and sit with their arms wide open in offering. Altogether, they create a kind of benevolent coven. If Smith separated organs from bodies in her earlier work, now, she was creating not just whole bodies, but entire feminine communities. In two bronzes, Born (2002) and Rapture (2001), Smith sculpted nude women conjoined with animals—a deer and a wolf, respectively. Sans clothing or intricate detailing, the figures look less contemporary than archetypal: part of a mythological brood of feminine spirits that includes characters both biblical (her 1994 sculpture Lilith resembles a nude woman mounted on the wall) and earthbound (an untitled work from 1992 resembles a crouching woman with outstretched hands).

The way Smith discusses her practice is more happenstance than strategic. She tells me, for example, that it was “opportunity” that led her to begin making tapestries in the 2010s. Artist Don Farnsworth, a director of the Oakland-based studio Magnolia Editions, visited Smith and asked her if she’d be interested in working in the medium. Smith took on the challenge and ultimately created 12 vibrant tapestries, filled with blue skies and oceans, yellow grounds, and pink birds. She says that it offered her an opportunity to stretch outside of her typical size and aesthetic.
“I never thought I could make a picture so big,” Smith says. She adds that it was also an opportunity to make works with color, something she doesn’t frequently do.
A selection of the tapestries is on view at Florence’s Uffizi Gallery through June 2nd. Congregation (2014) merges many of Smith’s most significant interests in thread. The composition features a nude woman sitting atop a tree trunk, a web of branches emerging from her eyes. The spindly network also connects to a deer, squirrel, owl, and bat in the background. On the ground beneath lies a banner sprinkled with starry shapes. Here, Smith depicts a very literal interconnection between the female body and nature. Sky (2012) positions a nude female body curving into the star-filled night sky.

During my visit to Smith’s studio, another of the tapestries, Spinners (Moths & spider webs) (2014), lies on a table. It features a murky black-and-blue strip on the bottom, from which thin pussy willows emerge. Higher up, spiderwebs spin across the stalks in light, radiant, outward-reaching threads. Moths flurry in and out of the brush, creating a sense of motion and energy. Smith says the idea for the work began when she started taking care of silkworms for her artist friend Valerie Hammond. She had to feed them mulberry leaves everyday. When the creatures bloomed into moths, Smith took photographs and painted watercolors of them. She merged these images digitally with those of other wildlife, creating a life-sized drawing, which was then replicated in thread.
Smith explains that the scene could never actually occur in nature: Moths and pussy willows develop at different times of year. “They don’t make any sense,” she says of the works.

Smith isn’t generally interested in naturalistic representations, or a logical progression of her own practice. Instead, she infuses everything she makes with the feeling of the day, allowing interactions, news items, and photographs to provide her with temporary inspiration.
It’s no surprise, then, that the Pace show seems to obliquely address the #MeToo era. Picking up her phone again, Smith shows me a picture of a light blue–tinged, crosshatch-textured sculpture bound for the show. It resembles a three-dimensional drawing of a woman’s face (thin instead of spherical, more scratched into than sculpted), with wave shapes emerging from her eyes, mouth, and hair—rays that suggest embodied sight and speech. It seems like a metaphor for the torrent of speech and thought that women have offered in the past year, as their voices grow louder in both the press and in the U.S. government.

Smith has continued scratching at the plexiglass of the piece bound for Deste in between brief interludes to show images of other work. Eventually, she stops that work and begins whittling away at a small frog. “It’s not a very complicated frog. But I still sit for hours, taking off a little bit of wax,” she says. She’s making some rings for her husband, a beekeeper who lives upstate and wants one for each finger. She’ll place the frog atop one band; another gold band will receive a tourmaline stone. She places a ring in my hand and tells me to feel its heft.
Portrait of Kiki Smith by Daniel Dorsa for Artsy.
Smith says that sometimes she’s not sure what drives this relentless, slow, and measured making. “I think, ‘Oh, you’re just making sure nothing else can happen in the entire day except your attention to the frog,’” she says. Artmaking becomes a kind of time-hurrying spell.
Other times, she’s driven by the fact that each new piece falls short of satisfying her aims. “If you made one thing and could really be satisfied, then you could stop and do something more interesting than sitting in your house scratching things,” she says.
With this, I leave her house, walking downstairs along celestially patterned wallpaper. Passing through her bright-red front door into the rain, Smith’s mystique is still intact.

Wellness around the world
When the book ‘Eat, Pray, Love’ came out it seemed obvious why it was so successful. As an ambitious and driven woman yearning to find her career passion alongside a big, adventurous balanced life, this book hit home and I don’t think I was alone. Most of my close friends and colleagues dreamed of doing or being more too.
The truth is, the search for whatever “more” was to me, started decades earlier. Growing up in a small southern town, I was the slightly unique girl that managed to float relatively easily between the different cliques and social norms in my environment. I enjoyed and got along with almost everyone. All the while, I felt I was destined for a faster paced, more exciting (in my naïve eyes) big city.
Having been absolutely unable to stop singing and dancing as well as being crystal clear that I was meant to be a big Broadway star (who then went on to direct blockbuster movie musicals), I pursued my dreams with fearlessness and gusto! If I wanted to do an improvised dance piece for an audience, I just did it, if I wanted to choreograph the big tap number for the kid’s theatre group, I naturally took charge and made it happen. I started the dance team in my high school when there wasn’t one and I didn’t think twice about doing it, I simply made it happen.
When I decided to quit being a professional singer and actress and commit to being a spa manager, I felt as if I went through a break up. I was heartbroken that the industry I had loved my whole life was not the dream I’d thought it could be. I was talented enough to work relatively consistently, yet I rarely felt authentic and was always searching for my own voice. I performed on cruise ships, did a lot of regional and off-Broadway theatre, was in a few bands and I sang on tour in a Broadway show all over the world and worked with and performed with legendary icons. At auditions, I tried subconsciously to be what I thought the casting directors were looking for in hopes of landing the job. Ultimately, I became disillusioned and that’s when I discovered I was good at something else…. (sound the trumpets) Customer service.
I enjoyed my ‘survival’ job as we called them then, of being a receptionist in a busy NYC spa. I loved talking about products and interacting with guests. I quickly moved up and it felt very natural to grow in this new environment. I used my acting skills along the way when needed but for the most part, I truly liked being part of a company, participating in the growth of a brand and ultimately discovering that leadership was in my blood.
Cut to almost 15 years in the spa and wellness industry and I’m on a beach in Costa Rica having just booked my ticket only a few days earlier. What was my purpose? I had grown to not only love this industry but adore and admire the people I connected with along the way. It was so much fun to be an equal and smart businessperson alongside these other smart, driven people sharing ideas, best practices and even antidotes of our crazier moments. It was inspiring to move up and become part of a huge corporation with a strong vision that I got to be help facilitate. I felt proud to represent the companies and brands I worked for. So how come I felt burned out and unfulfilled?
Standing on the beach with my toes in the sand, I promised myself I’d make my mark on the world and do something awesome. Now as I approach middle age (gasp), what happened to that fearless young girl whose world revolved around the magic of theatre? Surely I have not reached my full potential.
After my own personal ‘Eat Pray Love’ trip involving a few weeks in St. Thomas BVI, a week alone learning to surf in Costa Rica and a week with business colleagues learning to ski in Steamboat Springs CO, I made a big move. Still trying to find my way, I accepted a new, bigger job that I had hoped would be my dream job in a new city. Sadly it wasn’t, and even though I didn’t know what I was going to do next at the time, I knew it was time to seriously reevaluate.
Then, my father died suddenly. Let me tell you, when you quit your big fat job, leave your friends and home across the country and then your biggest supporter and constant ear is gone…. The world is a totally new and different place. So here I am sitting at my mother’s kitchen table watching endless webinars, reading multiple self-help books and trolling LinkedIn for some sort of inspiration.
WHAT am I yearning to do? As most good slightly controlling driven people do, I wrote a list.
1. Travel – I have inherited my father’s wanderlust and absolutely LOVE to explore and visit pretty much anywhere.
2. Wellness or balance – I’ve lost my way and am not in my best shape physically or probably mentally so this is also a personal quest.
3. Products – I love love love products and have rarely met one I didn’t like. Drug stores are like candy stores to me and a sparkly Sephora or well-appointed spa is my crack.
4. Leading a team – being part of a bigger picture and leading a team feeds my soul. The best compliment I have ever received was from a former assistant who said my development of her propelled her career and that I’d made a positive impact on her.
5. Genuinely helping and caring – big and small scale. Being even the tiniest part of someone’s experience that they will cherish is an amazing gift. Heck I grew up going to Disney world, I will always believe in magic, it’s in my DNA.
6. The Spa and Wellness industry in general – I did not grow up going to a spa so when I did start working in one it was a whole new exciting world! That feeling has never worn off as I see trends change and evolve and provide help, healing, and relaxation for people.
7. Looking and Feeling great- this one is tough because I rarely feel like I look or feel my best but I strive for it. Getting a treatment or even better, creating a treatment with therapists/estheticians is fantastic. Everyone should get a massage and a facial often. Seriously.
8. Alternative healing and beauty- this is vague passion but I’ll sum it up: I like it all. Cranioscral, Reiki, acupuncture, Yoga….you name it I am down for it.
9. Medical spa services – I know, it’s a contradiction but not to me. I’m an equal opportunist, I believe in Natural and organic products for some things and believe in science for others. Plus, being in this industry I’m a little vain and am not above a little botox to remove the angry eleven from my forehead.
10. Travel – yup, it shows up again and again. I’m not sure if this means I travel on my own or being a guest at some of the world’s beautiful spas and wellness centers. I’d hoped that my previous “dream job” would take me all over the world but alas, it is up to me at this point to make my global dreams come true.
Having made this list, I realize I’d like to combine all of these but how? This my friends is the moment of inspiration…… I will go in search of wellness around the globe and share it with you. I’ll document my journey with blog posts and videos. Having been previously sidelined with obstacles, many self-imposed, I now rally my inner strength. I hear my Dad’s voice in my head saying, “you got this Jilly” and I slap on some sunscreen and go.

“Fires of the Sun, Part 4″ Thoughts
I really need to go back and re-edit IM one of these days. Just rereading Fires of the Sun is making me cringe by how many mistakes there are. No, it's not a Deep Within scene! Why does it begin with a Deep Within?
Anyway, if I recall, that opening bit with Rumia was intended as a touch-base sort of thing. I had noticed that once Rin had let her go, she had started to fade into the background, and given her importance before that, I didn't want her to just slip off completely. I think her bit with getting threatened by Sakuya was partially created to at least give her something to do, even if it was more as a prop than anything. But it's been months so I don't really remember. At least it helped remind everyone of those bugs Wriggle sent out for help, so it's not like it was completely filler.
Funny thing about writing crises though: you kinda need them to keep going until you've hit that climatic finish. Which means any solution that would solve the crisis for the characters prematurely needs to be denied in some manner. That's honestly what that conversation between Sakuya and her allies was at least in part about: them reviewing any possible path that would cause the readers to go, "Wait, why don't they just do such-and-such?" and come up with a reason why they can't. Or have them try one workable idea only to slam the door in their face. Characters are annoyingly tenacious at times, and on occasion you do have to go the extra mile to herd them. Though if I recall, Kurumi did present some issues in that her vampiric needs had to be addressed frequently. Can't go into sunlight? Okay, that makes for a good reason for them not to flee through a window. But she's probably blood starved and I do not want her jumping onto one of the other kids and sucking them dry. Well, Sakuya probably came with some blood prepared, and she's likely to be empathetic toward vampire children, so that solves that. But yeah, part of writing these big scenes with lots of moving parts is foreseeing issues that'll get in the way and counter them ahead of time.
If I recall, I was constantly annoyed by the Dragon battles, and only went back to find some new way to keep them at bay. And I'll admit, it did get a little sloppy at times. I don't know what it says about me that I found writing a gigantic battle between Dragons and plant monsters to be tedious. I guess I just like my violence up close and personal.
Fortunately, Rin and Yuuka provided plenty of that. Rin's thoughts in that first clash mirrored my own, in that it felt so gratifying to pound Yuuka's face into pulp. I swear to God, the problems I've had with that character. To use a pro wrestling metaphor, she's that big star that's a huge draw and will guarantee sell-outs for your venue, but is just a whiny, spotlight stealing diva behind the scenes that you almost hate yourself for giving into them all the time, and yet you keep bringing them back because they sell tickets and try to make them look great. But then you finally get some leverage and don't need them anymore, trick them into a match that makes them look like a chump, and smirk from behind the curtain when your new top guy roughs them up. That's what that whole bit felt like. Yuuka really did help put this story on the map. She was by far the easiest character to write for, and any scene with her in it just felt…bigger. But oh my God, it drove me nuts the degree in which she would take on a life of her own and dominate the whole damn story. That kerfuffle with the robots was definitely the most egregious example, but there were others. I do feel I was able to get her character under control in the latter half of the Retaliation arc. Her breakdown after Marisa's death definitely helped. But even so, and even though I'm not yet done with her, this felt good.
I will admit to one bit of lazy writing though. According to my own rules, you can't send messages through magic when the Sirens are around. So…how did Rin control her duplicates? I did acknowledge this problem, but couldn't come up with a good reason and sort of brushed it off. Nobody really cared, but if I'm going to do a full look back, I might as well nitpick.
That gloriously pompous fly (I think I copied his speech patterns from the Helmacrons from Animorphs) though, that was another investment paying off. That whole thing with Wriggle's bug buddies came about because I had preplanned that tense scene with Elly trying to cut Wriggle's hair a way's back, didn't get a chance to use it, and wanted to stick it in before it was too late. The bugs crawling out her hair happened because I thought it was funny, then later, when Yuuka had captured them, I remembered them and figured I could do something with them. So, the bugs were out there, and I kept that (along with about a hundred other loose ends), and when the time came to spice up that garden battle, I remembered them and decided to pull the trigger. Downside? Dragons are fucking useless, okay!
After that was when I really cut loose with Yuuka lovecraftian roots. Like I mentioned in that chapter, I was playing a lot of the Dragonborn DLC for Skyrim around that time, and loved the eldritch scenes with Apocrypha, and decided to have Yuuka take some direct inspiration. So, slime, eyes, and tentacles. I swear to God, I don't know why eyes are such a recurring motif for me. I mean, I chose my avatar because I like Elfen Lied and it looks cool! I swear I'm not actually thinking about people's eyeballs day and night, they just keep popping up!
Illuminati confirm…
Righty then.
Anyhoo, Jun being a dog became unexpectedly handy. I got curious and looked up wolf behavior to see if they practice infanticide the same way lions do. Turns out, nope! Alphas protect the pack, the cubs, and the only infighting issues are usually with upstart young males! So, whenever Sakuya cracked a little more and wanted to get rid of the kids, it made sense for him to be uncharacteristically unselfish and step in. Having a big, hulking mass of angry muscle is useful for deterring murderous maids with slowly deteriorating mental states.
I…can't really remember if this was the point I had decided to have Sakuya threaten Rumia's life, if I had already decided that, or just have her take notice of Rumia as a way of making another investment, but regardless, that was where that scene started taking shape. I'm pretty sure it was something I had already committed to at that point thought, and was then planning on ways to relieve them of the kids and get rid of the rest of her team, allowing her to go completely rogue.
I did want the battle to end with Rin using Flandre's power to blow Yuuka to bits from the beginning though. So, what better way to pull that off than for Flandre to suggest it, thus planting it as a possibility, Rin to try and find it not working, only to bring it back when it was time? Because it's one thing to blow shit up. It's another to chuck bombs at shit, have them not go off, only to explode them later at a more suitably dramatic time.
For the four Yuuka scene though, I think the initial plan was actually for Rin to fight ten of them, grievously wound one for Elly to find later, and then just kyuu the rest to end the thing. It was cut down to four to simplify things a bit. Besides, it's been established that Yuuka gets weaker with each division, and Rin would probably have torn through ten with little difficulty. Besides, it lent itself to some symmetry, given that Rin was already using Four of a Kind, which I got a tremendous kick out of by having it time out like Touhou spellcards do. After all that distinctly non-Touhou-esque violence, it just tickled me to reintroduce the classic rules in the middle of a fight and have them be an inconvenience.
What? It made me laugh. Sue me.
Bringing back Kaguya and Mokou was a hoot as well. I really do miss those guys and all their bickering. And in my grand tradition in breaking up something horrifying with something silly, we have Rin's constant use of Phoenix Fire giving Mokou an itch. Though I think I brought them up here mainly because their later cameo in the next chapter was preplanned from way back and I didn't want their appearance then to be too out of left field.
And then I got to make up for my previous sacrilege by having all of those religious icons turn on Yuuka and burn her crispy. Like I've mentioned a few times before, my personal relationship with religion is a little complicated at this point. Regardless, I've never much cared for militant anti-religious attitudes, so this scene was sort of to make up for having those symbols perverted and destroyed earlier, as well as Yukari's previous trash talking of the Judeo-Christian faith in general. Having Remilia's spear (or Odin's. Whatever) be the first made for a nice bit of symbolism as well. Though it might have been stronger without Sariel directly commenting on it and offer an explanation as to why all those gods were suddenly taking notice just now. A little mystery goes a long way, after all.
Though I think at one point I was going to have Rin skewer the burnt Yuuka with Remilia's spear before dropping her into that hole. And maybe also sticking her into that broken crystal out of revenge. Can't remember why I didn't go through with it though. Hell, whatever happened to that spear anyway?

Tyler Perry on Madea’s muumuus and pearls: ‘I won’t miss any of it’
Tyler Perry says “A Madea Family Funeral” is the final film for his rambunctious female alter ego.Lions Gate/Everett Collection After 14 years wearing pearls and pads on-screen, Tyler Perry is officially hanging up Madea’s muumuu. “I’m turning 50 this year and didn’t want to be her age playing her,” the filmmaker and star tells The Post of his drag-tastic character. “It’s been a great run, but it’s time to move on.” Luckily, Perry isn’t leaving Madea behind without a proper goodbye — as she’d say, hallelujer! In “Tyler Perry’s A Madea Family Funeral,” in theaters Friday, the sassy senior citizen is back for one last hurrah. The 11th Madea movie finds her and her family coming together for a surprise party that goes fatally wrong. When a character kicks the bucket, jaw-dropping family secrets arise, potentially upending the funeral service. And while Madea isn’t the one going six feet under, Perry is more than ready to bury those unforgettable outfits. “I won’t miss any of it — putting on the wig or the costume,” he says. Still, costume designer Crystal Hayslett had a job to do: Send Madea out with a bang. After starting out working for Perry in 2012 as a production assistant in the wardrobe department, Atlanta-based Hayslett, 36, has gone on to costume Perry’s “Nobody’s Fool,” “Acrimony” and both “Boo! A Madea Halloween” flicks. On each film, Hayslett reads the script and then presents a mood board to the producers, including Perry, who approves the looks. “The only thing Mr. Perry cares about is that he’s not matching the set,” Hayslett tells The Post. “Other than that, he gives me complete creative control when it comes to the dresses. Honestly, he wears so many hats when it comes to shooting Madea films — he’s the writer, he’s the director, he’s playing four different characters. So the last thing he’s really worried about is a dress.” For scenes taking place at home, Madea’s known to wear a voluminous muumuu, but outside the house, she sports a signature look. She always dons a version of the same dress: a basic, long-sleeve, collared number that comes down to Perry’s calves and features an elastic waist to help give her shape. The formula has been used so many times that Hayslett has never actually measured Perry — she just bases each dress off the last one. They’re all custom-made by a tailoring team, but Hayslett guesses that off-the-rack, Perry, who is 6-foot-5, would need a women’s size 4X or 5X. That’s including the fat suit: Underneath the dresses, Perry wears an all-in-one enlarger that pads his thighs, butt and stomach, while adding not-quite-perky breasts filled with plastic beads. “[It makes] them heavy, so when Madea’s bouncing around, they just kind of go with the flow,” Hayslett says. In “Family Funeral,” Madea sports three variations of her classic frock: a purple floral look in cotton; a watercolor-inspired orange satin dress; and, for the signature event, an all-black get-up. The costume crew made four copies of each dress, in case any zippers popped or buttons went flying on set. Hayslett typically draws inspiration for Madea’s ensembles from her 94-year-old grandmother, Ruth, who lives in Somerville, Tenn., and “rarely wears pants,” the designer says. For the funeral dress, she turned instead to someone nearly as bootylicious as Madea herself: Beyoncé. Hayslett studied the superstar’s Southern Gothic black dress and wide-brimmed hat seen in her “Formation” music video. As a result, Madea’s dress itself was a step up from her typical day look, with Hayslett adding ruffles and lace to the sleeves and beading to the collar. Costume designer Crystal Hayslett took cues from Beyoncé’s “Formation” video (right) for Madea’s outfit in “A Madea Family Funeral.”Chip Bergman; Larry Busacca/PW/WireImage But the biggest challenge for the designer turned out to be the hat — and finding one big enough to fit over Perry’s gray wig. The team ended up cutting the brim off the hat they found at Goorin Bros. Hat Shop and making a new brim out of felt-covered cardboard. “When it was time to put the hat on Madea, I think everyone on my team was holding their breath, like, ‘Please, Lord, let this hat fit,’ ” says Hayslett. “And it did. It was a hit. [Perry] was cracking up, like, ‘Y’all are crazy!’ ” Of course, no Madea look is complete without a few accessories — she doesn’t go anywhere without her pearls and clear vintage eyeglasses. For footwear, Madea typically slips into black ballerina flats that match her black purse; while at home, she opts for a pair of pastel, terry cloth slides. For Perry, any shoe higher off the ground is strictly off limits. “You will never catch that man in heels,” says Hayslett, laughing. “Absolutely not.” [embedded content] Dude looks like a lady Fashion trends come and go, but you can always count on Madea and her muumuus. Here’s the recipe for Tyler Perry’s iconic character, no matter when she’s on-screen. The Muumuu: The signature, floral collared dress makes its debut in 2005’s “Diary of a Mad Black Woman.” Alfeo Dixon The Glasses: Everyone’s favorite cousin in 2006’s “Madea’s Family Reunion” always rocks her retro granny glasses. Lions Gate/Everett Collection The Pearls: Not even going undercover in 2012’s “Madea’s Witness Protection” can stop Madea from wearing her classic string of pearls. bleach brave souls hack
Hi
Negatives: recurring eq hack have fun with playing. Gather with people worldwide in 4 competitor real time co op or prevent it in excessive pvp struggles. Actual time co op And intelligent pvp meet up with as many as 4 people in tangible time co op or combat other people in intelligent 3 vs . 3 pvp. Like almost all of wireless move rpgs, the steps are usually short and developed for everyday gamers but get a longer time and many other things really hard after. Whilst all kinds of things really feels shiny, swift steps and phase established progression method will actually feel completely general to people acquainted with wireless move rpg titles. |The storyline themselves, is rather fascinating, and is different from humorous to emotional, with plenty of remarkable figures and nature progress. programmers managed to do an excellent function retelling the storyline, or even people who've looked at chlorine bleach beforehand is likely to take advantage of reliving the storyplot yet again. Having to deal with the capability to switch among figures gives a suitable aspect of the sporting activity as foes change into stronger and all round, the beat is quite user-friendly but shiny. Amounts may very well be leveled up by doing report style quests, by giving up other figures via the increase method, and using their soul shrub. figures for even more signup bonuses. It could you have to be much too chaotic and The in application form orders are much like people of other hero acquiring rpgs. |Whilst steps have an overabundance of really hard afterwards, hard cash is not always expected to advancement, at the same time, having to pay hard cash delivers benefits one example is far more energy source also in eq hack yellow gold, aside from obtaining a larger chance of acquiring a five star hero/item as a consequence of far more summons, that gives an advantage for the report quests and pvp. Klab international can be the web publishers because of the hit wireless plan cheats, lord of dragons and chronilogical era of empires: modern world domination. when not you are able to thinking to google's have fun with playing save and even the itunes application form save to download Hack Bleach Brave Souls now. Every single struggles transpire instantaneously beat, providing you with a number of invade switches (folks are unlocked since you advancement from the eq hack) on the best, plus a exercise pad on the still left facet because of the display screen. The pvp online dating work enjoy the co op style, besides quite of cooperating you're venturing thinking to Along the primary display screen, you may check out the summon retail store to gain far more partners with the use of energy orbs, which is a precious kind of currency employed for something more key dangling about various from looking for figures to progressing up. Team’s may have nearly a trio of people they, and you could also manner nearly a trio of far more groups slot machine games to swiftly switch among many different figures before you start a mission. In reference to this, the storyline does not make a lot of meaning and is particularly generally there becoming an excuse to battle far more foes. By the correlated facet note, the game also functions faultlessly in my wireless. |For the primary selection you may join up the public chat room or living area to make friends and meet with other people in eq hack to make a some new buddies, and maybe even question some assist you. Even though many f2p cheats make use of lethargic prices of advancement generally known as "invest surfaces", klab obligated a option on shipment a name which has a significant amount contents not covered behind a invest wall, that courageous souls is unquestionably very similar to a complete costed eq hack for the fully commited cheats base enjoy the ps vita or nintendo 3ds. Periods: monthly quests are distributed about people, and get from initial facet tales or inspired by prevailing plan lines on the collection. will allow the online gamer to obtain heights their figures, gain energy orbs or open new figures. Heart and soul seats are utilized to input quests much of the game’s settings, and coins may be used instead of orbs for a variety of orders. Even so, it's practical for that competitor to purchase soul seats to acquire doing searching, so people plays steadily whilst not getting in your feelings soul ticket ingestion. Leader struggles glow some of the most fascinating elements of the video game have fun with playing, if whilst not other legitimate reason as opposed to facts that these “boss battle” is a little a missing relic to all kinds of things about advanced cheats, but is enormously forgotten, and gives an astonishing feeling of move and climax to each and every phase. |I am bummed on exactly how harmful my chance is still pulling credit cards on this page. You've desired goals to attain on each and every stage by working at all of them you receive reward freely available iap currency. 3/ no computer hardware control services. Do not get me set out Typically these titles would opt for only that this was significantly relevant to development and marketing the present shape because of the anime and skim an item which was not a snazzy new force up and even the up-to-date baddie, leading to terribly reported, utterly incoherent narratives. Low enthusiast can enjoy the sporting activity, parse the circumstances, and treasure them for what they're because there is a interesting legitimate reason to get this done. Right out of the compartment the outcome with any collection that's been serialised in excess of few years, enthusiast inevitably flourish interested in a particular nature (or twenty seeing as chlorine bleach has so darn many of us). to learn if you want their have fun with playing style and design. Even so that courageous souls could actually suck me looking for around an hour approximately at any given time no matter what this is definitely surely evidence of main greatness. |Considering the fact that each and every chapter provides for a preferences of report and sword cutting eq hack have fun with playing, the quests are usually protracted and remarkable than, say, your daily measure of delicious chocolate smash. It isn't generally the thing is that wireless eq hack comments on websites but it is also not generally i expose a game title name, a superb eq hack, for the exact same style such as eq hack i've just final critiquing. Bleach: courageous souls will be up-to-date for the collection plus the earliest for the wrists and hands held method due to the fact chlorine bleach boost on the eq hack son boost. eq hack have fun with playing is pretty comfortable: you advancement your nature apart and touch the invade icon to battle, some specific figures have individual assaults which, after getting widely used, contain a phenomenal decrease time frame prior these are generally widely used for a second time. alongside foes which happen to have a weeknesses with their individual component. Prevent style is rather easy for the reason that your best a trio of figures prevent your opponent’s foremost a trio of plus the more beneficial male in most cases wins. This style seems is known as a only portion of the eq hack i can not appear to get at your workplace. Characteristics chlorine bleach offers add a every single day log in reward and sales/achievements which might be attained by doing a line mission. After i outlined formerly, it is built a great deal more spectacular mainly because it is “free” (support on, you didn’t set the message freely available in conversation signifies prior). |For all free to download wireless eq hack, chlorine bleach: courageous souls provides an spectacular various contents that will help you remain occupied more than it's any to carry out. Or else, then just look into the standard text tutorial and yes it really should slide into position. In order to put *this leaderboard onto a game title name and refer to it as multiple competitor, then you've a major downside to me. Your possibility for acquire a a number of star or significantly greater hero is amazingly lower. Bring together your chosen figures into categories of a trio of. your best people alongside other players' groups and vie for that foremost destination. Bleach courageous: souls is actually a currently printed out wireless eq hack in keeping with the anime for android operating system and ios units. Which provide you with just one more go dangling about if your workforce drops, plus the energy orbs hard work as an alternative for coins and stat crystals to make use of on soul plants. |There’re also message boards accessible in the desltop. Just about every nature comes with an characteristic, a soul shrub, plus a soul feature, despite the fact precious goes are limited by 3 star and previous styles. Even so, the soul bombs are quite unusual, so you should hold on the key at least one starting with prior to prevent in charge or have to deal with a unsafe instance on really hard settings. The figures will almost certainly do the combating by themselves whenever opt for who'll use a precious while. Considering eq hack areas are administered by doing this, it is easy to circular up a couple of buddies and possess a co op time when using the speech chat for more effective sychronisation. Their models are adequate to what's found in the business, plus the animation meet their personalities and combating style and design. Food list switches are easy and performance the direction they really should whilst it is exhausting to visit from nature to nature by sacrificing view of merely one page to a new. Experts: enjoy with the sought after figures and make a organization about them. |Now released everyone release of chlorine bleach: courageous souls, a three dimensional hack and cut move rpg in keeping with the If you happen to become bored, you will discover the choices for people to join up in monthly leagues and beat other groups to gain precious awards. The succession rates of finding five star figures is still decreased greatly aided by the states of now ways to get significantly greater selections using their twice possibility summons which may be unrealistic, everybody that features performed farmville for a good although can separate. The game At 3 actors, most figures will gain access to their precious talents. Gemstones would be the “pay 2 win” currency that you simply get to summon figures. |Add-on possibility for get 4 star finishing touches it is best to save at the very least 250 gemstones to have the secured at the very least 1 4 star summon. star lineup, finishing touches is definitely not as essential. I understand i attained 4 star sajin on the movie festivity. (model: i've got a 6* szayel and also that i might want the raid mayuris to be able to open aspects of his soul shrub. Click here for ios signing up or in this article for android operating system signing up. You will discover a trio of primary settings in courageous souls, which happens to be report, prevent and co op. A specific harmful cause for the storyline style would be the lower moments, which happens to be just however graphics having a sms compartment afterwards because of the display screen. |Brave souls features a significantly convenient nature improvement method that permits you to surely type in struggles for feel to obtain heights figures and boost their bottom stats, enhance their optimum stage, coach them on the soul shrub to extend their stats or hyperlink figures alongside one another to offer different services. Also if you need this kind of look at, take a look at want i should look at then.
