I often see posts on here about your Moral Obligation to Reblog (which I don't really agree with), but I don't ever see the argument that reblogging is fun and nets you followers. I love seeing stuff on my dash. I open Tumblr seventeen times a day in order to See the Posts. I like it when there are more of them. If I get a new follower, or someone reblogs one of my posts, I often go check out their blog, and if I like a high proportion of what's there, I'll follow 'em. It's cool to be a creator in a fandom, but liking stuff and being enthusiastic about stuff is a really important role you can have, too. I've only been on Tumblr since 2019, but even then, posts in my fandom seemed to circulate a lot more, especially older ones, and I miss that. People would just find something from a few years ago and say "HEY REMEMBER THIS? IT WAS SO COOL!" and I would think "I DO REMEMBER THAT AND IT WAS!" or maybe I hadn't seen it because new people join all the time. I don't care if I have seen a post eight times. I don't usually even mind if I see a post eight times today. I recognize your name and I think "oh ThatPerson liked that cool post, too!" If you add tags? Amazing. Fantastic. Instantly quadruples the chance of follow. They don't even have to be witty tags. "This episode was sooooo funny!" or "I love Blorbo in a jean jacket he's just like me fr!" or "OPartist I love the colors you picked!" make this place feel so much friendlier. As far as being fun--a cool thing about Tumblr is that if you reblog a thing, you get the notifs and OP gets the notifs. Yeah yeah yeah, I'm sure the notifs are a pain if you actually go viral, but I don't think that's a thing most of us every worry about. I love to get notes! It's fun to get notes even if I didn't make the post, because I see who else thought that post was funny! Do you know how good it feels to find some neat piece of art with 6 notes and you reblog it and it gets 10 or 30 or 100 more and you get to see that?
Anyway, reblogging is fun and cool. Tumblr even lets you make sideblogs, so if you want to have a dedicated blog to just your art (or whatever), you can make a sideblog for reblogging. Or, hear me out--people will come for your reblogs and then end up liking the things you make, too.

Hey, I've been reading your posts. I'm sorry you're hurting. I hope one day the world will be kind to you and you'll be at peace. 🤍
thank you. I'll start tagging it "#hurtposting" so folks can filter my babbling nonsense out.
-> I forget that people look at my blog at all, I'm used to yelling into a void. I follow people and am genuinely confused when they follow me back. very isolated mindset, comes with the territory (mental illness) I guess. I spent most of my life not really being acknowledged and never adjusted to I Do Exist Actually, so I tend to post erratic stuff to clear my head & sort out my own thoughts.
I am hoping you yourself are well, or at least treading water. I know things suck right now. sometimes all you can do is try to find little things to propel you forward. it's like rock climbing, just look for the next grip, then the next. I hope you're at least surviving, if you can't thrive right now. I hope this doesn't sound too saccharine and fraudulent. it's all I have.
(original response:)
thank you. sorry you had to read my weird spiralling. my life has been very rough & it takes a toll on a person to live like that. and I kept it bottled for a long time because nobody intervened and helped me; so I eventually just checked out of my own life to survive. but now I'm living with the aftermath of it all.
I don't think anything will ever improve for me. I think it's impossible, maybe I am cursed or just not human. but I am hopeful for other people and I dearly wish them all well. other people find pockets of happiness or comfort so it must be real for real people. I've accepted it, that unobtainable state of being others seem to find, but grief isn't a neat cycle you finish and are done with - the anger comes back, the depression comes back, the bargaining comes back, 🔁🔁🔁
I know the world is a very cruel & often inexplicable place to live in. any slice anyone can carve out to live in... they deserve to have. and I hope it finds people, that semblance of peace.
I think at least I'll be at peace some day, as rest comes for us all. I just wish there was something other than waiting for the pain to be over. something to justify the pain? -> something to have made surviving it at all worth it. you know? I don't know. whatever. I'm tired. I've always been tired. I want to rest. I'm always resting. 🔁🔁🔁

I made a blog!!!
Tumblr media
Check out my bloooooooog
(Sorry, there's not much there right now...)
I realized that while I was on cohost, the format and the posting culture (css nerd stuff) kind of encouraged me to put more time and effort into making posts in a way that I hadn't in a long time. I hadn't realized how much I missed having control over the minutiae of content I posted. So even though I resolved to crosspost some of the stuff I liked to tumblr, it's missing some of the personality that I put into it, I think, and having a blog where I can do some of those shenanigans if I want to will be fun.
Also, for your viewing pleasure, you may subscribe to the RSS feeds (there's one for each category in addition to the aggregate feed, so if you only want to hear about art or only games, you can do that as well).
Also also, if you own your own webspace, and are thinking about adding a blog, I wrote a little bit about the plugin i used under the cut. ↓↓↓
I was sifting through the blogging plugins available through my hosting service and settled on HTMLy, firstly because it's pretty lightweight--it only takes up 8mb of server space which is crazy small (compare to Wordpress' 68mb). It has a tag system, categories, and a built in search (not just a google search that crawls through your blog), and aside from how long it took me to hack the themes apart into something resembling the rest of my site, it was really easy to setup. I really like it.
I only added it to my blog, but I'm honestly kind of considering rebuilding the rest of my site using HTMLy as well.
Similar to cohost, you can use markdown and html in your posts. There's a built-in image uploader so you don't have to deal with any image hosting shenanigans. I added a bunch of special elements to my blog's css that i'd defined in the style sheet for my regular website (and even some common ones I used in my chosts), so I can insert them for a cohesive feel.
It also supports multiple users--with its own login page separate from your cpanel or however you usually access your site--which is a feature I'll never use, but I think it's really neat. :)
Aaaanyways, I need to overhaul the rest of my site since I haven't updated it meaningfully in uh... six years... but hopefully, I'll get around to making it more of a reflection of my current interests... this year... maybe....
Also, maaaaaaaan, i really wanna get back into doing little code doodles in Processing. I used to have a lot of fun with them. Maybe I'll port some of my old ones to the latest version so I can put them on the web...

I was tagged by @hils79, so here we go!
1. why did you choose your url?
I put my old penname lickitysplit through a Google translator and ended up with prolestari, and I thought it was neat :)
2. any sideblogs? if you have them name them and why you have them.
I have my writing one at @prolestariwrites that I still use. I have an art one from when I used to draw and a couple of fandom event types but I don't use any of them anymore.
3. how long have you been on tumblr?
I joined at the end of 2016 because my friends were using it.

No, I have no idea how to use it lol
5. why did you start your blog in the first place?
To check out fandom stuff and to promote my writing.

Tumblr media
Okay okay okay, so here's the short of it.
I own a very large bundle of games and haven't explored much of it at all. It's where I played NitW from for instance but that's "roughly" all I've explored.
I went browsing it with the intent of just 'starting' a ton of games and making a short post on em all for fun until I found the motivation to start a serious game for the blog- still plan to do that!- but I IMMEDIATELY had to stop for this one!
UNDERHERO IS SICK!?!?!
I have NEVER heard of this one!
(Now I intended to post a song from the game here as BGM to the post and an example of what's going on in the game but I realized I don't own the OST and can't post a video since I'm using a video in this post already so just check out a random song like Ghost Party which I found by looking at their bandcamp, it's nice stuff)
It's got a fun bit of humor going for it that was willing to be more "This isn't rated E" than I expected lol. That's on me, I really haven't been playing a lot of indie games beyond ridiculously large ones people shout at me to try (which often clearly and immediately say "This game is violent" "This game is 100% cheery" or what not) but yeah, there's some blood from a murder that I did in the intro cutscene.
But yeah it's got this charming humor to it, spent the bulk of my first hour just talking with people and enjoying the little bits here and there.
Tumblr media
You're some minion for a big bad in a world where big bads rise and fall to new heroes every other week- it's normal and expected and kinda just the run of the mill of things.
But you kill a hero and their mythical talking weapon says it's your job to do the dead hero's work now and you're more or less just a push over who does what you're told so you're down (kinda, the promise of money helps).
Tumblr media
Our boss is fun.
Tumblr media
And he sends us out to return the hero's gems (and kills our witness). I'm lead to believe he's setting things up so a new hero can come, I mean he releases the princess too? It feels like some "The world runs like this, and I'm part of the clockwork around here!" deals which is fun in its own way (especially since he seems wild enough for this to be some eccentric plan?).
Tumblr media
BUT WHO CARES ABOUT ANY OF THAT (I jest)
But seriously, there's more to the game than some charm- and if that was all the game had I probably wouldn't be talking about it because the beginning wasn't like 900% geared to my interests charm, it was just 'good charm'.
WHAT HAS ME INTERESTED IS THIS GAMEPLAY HOLY HECK!!!!
It's a hybrid of a lot of neat ideas and feels so GOOD!
Strangely, despite being so different, it scratches my paper mario itch most of all.
It somehow 'feels' like I'm playing that old timed hit gameplay, but with enough new and unique combinations of mechanics on top that it also doesn't feel remotely boring or samey as that?
Like, it feels entirely different, yet it scratches THAT itch in particular.
Tumblr media
I mean look at this level up and tell me that doesn't scream Paper Mario lol.
Tumblr media
To quickly run down some of the ideas going on in combat (this far in at least):
The game page describes it as a turn based RPG without the turns and they are right about that.
Instead you have stamina and dodging enemy attacks speeds up your stamina regen.
On top of that you can block and parry instead of dodging, there is bribery to skip fights, there's talking to enemies to get tips, it's neat from the word go to be honest.
Tumblr media
So I spent an hour in Underhero, which is about how long I planned on playing each of the games in this 'rampage of my backlog' but uh.
I think we're one game in and we found a winner?
Like I think I might just play this through to completion as my next game lol.
It's REALLY good.
I've only just gotten to the first dungeon and saved the game and I'm already thinking of just cutting this expedition through my backlog short with a surprise home run.
Regardless of what *I* do, I say give Underhero a look. This game is SICK. It's 15 bucks on itch.io and isn't too hard to find.
I think it's pretty safe to say we'll be seeing more of this on the blog. Instead of making my next game be something predictable like the next Yakuza or a DQ game, maybe I'll toss this indie game I'd never heard of to the top of the list :P
