I've listened to TTPD three times now, twice alone and once at a listening breakfast with friends! Thoughts:

I liked quite a lot of it, but I'm not immediately blown away.

Current favorite is "The Bolter," followed by "But Daddy I Love Him," "The Prophecy," and "Florida!!!" in no particular order.

I loved the breadth of feelings that the album addresses. You really get a sense of a whole emotional landscape.

It's in strong and compelling conversation with Taylor's whole body of work without being too excessively self-referential. "thanK you aIMee" is the notable exception.

A lot of the songs are overwritten: she uses $20 words in place of $2 words, repeats herself, and dulls the power of what works by surrounding it with a lot that doesn't. If we go by Coleridge's definition that poetry is the best words in their best order, then yeah. She definitely needs an editor.

However, none of the lyrics that people seem to be highlighting as "cringey" bother me at all. I've always loved Taylor's proclivity for small details, even strange or out-of-place ones.

I would really love to gently help Taylor out with her literary allusions. They're a long-standing struggle for her, and even going in I was a little worried for that aspect of the album based on the marketing. Could've been worse, but most of them could still stand to be a whole lot sharper.

The songs tend towards very consistent production and tempo. Whether you want to call that cohesiveness or homogeneity is a matter of opinion.

My great, secret wish for this album was that it would feature a bunch of orchestra/strings, which would've meshed great with the dark academia vibe. Clearly, I didn't get it. Oh well

Off the back of my post about my mom's lack of seasonings in Thanksgiving sides, I figured I'd show I'm breaking the cycle by sharing my pumpkin pie recipe. If you make this, I'd love to hear about it!! Feel free to reblog as well

Alchem's Pumpkin Pie:

15 oz (1 can) pumpkin puree

14 oz (1 can) sweetened condensed milk

2 eggs

1/4 tsp nutmeg

1 tsp ginger

1/8 tsp allspice

1 1/2 tsp cinnamon

1 1/2 tbsp maple syrup

1/4 tsp cloves

1/2 tsp salt

Preheat oven to 425°F

Whisk everything together in bowl, adjust spices to taste

Pour into chilled pie crust in a greased pan (pre-baking crust advised, but optional)

Bake pie at 425°F for 15 minutes

Reduce oven temp to 350°F and continue to bake for 35-40 mins. When you can stick in a knife and it comes out clean, it's done

Cool completely before eating, and enjoy!

-If you want homemade whipped cream, you can use and electric mixer to whisk a pint of heavy cream with ten tablespoons of sugar and a teaspoon or two of vanilla until peaks form

-If you're making this with fresh pumpkin, you should only need one pie pumpkin. Be sure to get one intended for baking

-Baking can be tricky. Take deep breaths, and enjoy the ride of building a new skill. It might not be perfect the first time, or the second, but there's no rush. You've got this

so since it's ace week i wanna talk about my very specific jon's ace ring headcanon. (btw the beginning of this is very inspired by a fic i read once, but i can't remember the name)

so jon has an ace ring. he got it from georgie in uni after she helped him figure out he was ace, and he wears it everyday.

but then, after jude perry burns his hand, he can't wear it for a while (i know if he wore it when shaking her hand it would have probably melted, so let's say he wasn't wearing it for some reason). he keeps the ring in his pocket and after he comes back to the archives martin notices he keeps fidgeting with it. (now this is the part that i read in a fic) martin asks about it and jon admits how upset he is that he can't wear it (this also ends up functioning as a coming out so martin can hear it from jon instead of office gossip!) and martin gives him a chain so he can wear it around his neck while his hand heals.

now this is the part that's all mine. i imagine right before they leave for the unknowing, jon and martin say goodbye (and they kiss cause it makes s4 hurt more and it's basically canon im my mind). jon takes of the ring necklace and gives it to martin, asking him to look after it until he comes back.

then the coma.

at first i imagined jon waking up with the ring next to him but no martin. but then i came up with something sadder (but also maybe sweeter?). martin keeps the ring. he knows he should give it back after jon wakes up and that he could probably find a way to do it without talking to him, but he just can't get himself to do it. jon notices but kinda forgets about it (he's got bigger things to worry about and assumes martin forgot).

then they go to the safehouse. and martin gives back the ring. he apologizes for not doing it before but jon is just touched that he still has it. it's all very emotional and then martin puts the ring on jon's finger and they are both VERY aware of how much it looks like a proposal

Charles confesses, and Edwin goes in for a kiss, but Charles stops him. Edwin is so confused, but Charles just goes, "Don't feel like you have to kiss me. We can be in love and not kiss. Just knowing that you know I love you is enough for me."
