FINISHED!!! I’ll be adding little links so the whole comic is easier to follow. Honestly I was looking at the first page and uhhhh. Brother eughhhhhhh. I feel like I’ve MUCH improved since I first started this. I started experimenting with some textured brushes and effects layers to add a little more interest to the pages and I think it adds a lot to it. And now I get to move on to telling the rest of the story hell yeah (I have to draw Heisenberg factory interior. Aghh. Also sorry the house back looks so different I decided to stop being allergic to architecture and just draw the damn house lol)

They’ve been communicating too well they need to lie to each other a little <3. I think it makes sense for them both to be a little spooked by each other. Despite Gabe’s efforts his powers are DISTURBINGLY similar to Eveline. His description of assimilating the garden plants into essentially his own mini less sophisticated hive mind didnt really inspire a lot of confidence.(plants aren’t very smart so they don’t make as good friends for building a complex hivemind [thank god]. As a side note I wonder how long, if ever, it would take for Robbie to acknowledge that he was LITERALLY INSIDE EVELINES HIVEMIND when he was stuck in the mold column at the end of the ship section [GODAMNIT I need to draw Gabe with a machine gun]. LIKE BRO YOU TALKED TO A SANE AND NORMAL JACK BAKER HOW THE FUCK DO YOU THINK THAT HAPPENED. Christ this is a long side note sorry sorry adhd ‘extra thought’ induced rant over.)

And ROBBIE. I mean the Bakers were fucking SCARY dude. If you ever wanna know what having RE Robbie be after you would feel like, just play Jacks section of the game where he’s hunting you through the house. You can waste your bullets by firing a whole mag into his head, but he’ll just get back up. He won’t stop coming after you. It is PANIC INDUCING my dude holy fucking shit. You start flinching at every little noise of the house settling, hyper aware of anything sounding like a voice, is that the thunder outside or is he slamming his godamn shovel on the ground as a promise to severely fuck you up again…Gabe hasn’t forgotten what that’s like.

A little gift if you may, I like to draw for my favorite writers. Talking bout writing stuff I want to talk about the story and setting itself to anyone that care enough to read lmao.

The sickness that resides is one of the fanfic I think, that have the best setting for starters in the mandela catalogue AU. It start of with " you " interviewing Gabriel about his little cult in the Mandela county. I find it intriguing and really invested to read, like when I saw the first coversation they have I'm drawn to it immedietly. It reaallly hook me up. I find myself having fun thinking about the scenarios.. you might think I'm exaggerating-I mean to each their own, but I really did enjoy how dorian wrote the story in this one. Maybe I'm a bit bias because-well- I LIKE IT.

Another thing I like is... Gabriel in suits I- I WANT TO DRAW MORE GABE IN SUITS MAN. This story have a nice start to everything so go check it out.

I'd say this story is on the same fun level as You called me angel for the first time (My heart leapt from me) but just for the setting I find this one more interesting- BUT it doesn't mean that the other fic aint good I have so much more to say for that- I'm keeping it for next time.

drew the ow strike team as paladins of voltron, because i am normal about them :]

ok so im gonna give my reasoning for each of them

Reinhardt - the easierst to pick, the Yellow Lion is the most tank-like (besides the Black Lion, but thats cuz Black is the head + torso), also i think the legs of voltron are supposed to be the "pillars" that allow the team to work well, without them the whole thing crumbles (literally). from what i recall from the actual show, the Yellow Paladin is protective and loyal. Rein was the easiest to match up tbh (plus even the color fits lol)

Torbjörn - not my favourite choice, but tbh i dont think any other lion fits him? besides maybe Yellow, but Rein was too perfect so i couldnt give Torb that one. anyway, the Green Lion is the left hand. i consider the legs to be the "pillars" holding up the team, whereas the arms are the actual damage-dealers/the ones that act on what the leader commands. and as Torb is a dps, that fits just fine. hes not quite a leader, so being the left hand instead of the right is good. plus the Green Lion is inquisitive and curious, and since Torb is a genius, that fits just fine too. i thought he would look weird with green, since i associate him with red-orange-yellow the most, but he looks kinda nice

Ana - i was originally gonna make her blue from the get-go, but i thought it'd be silly to make the remaining three switch lions a bunch, so i can get an excuse to draw Gabe and Jack in multiple suits lmao. but Ana starts out as red, the right hand of Voltron, described as the most temperamental and aggressive. it requires a paladin that can keep up with it and works on instinct most of the time. i feel like Ana would have to BECOME the motherly figure for her team, instead of being one from the start. with that i think she would have been a more "lone wolf" type at first, only later on becoming more mindful of her teammates and how much they need her, which would lead to her becoming the paladin of the Blue Lion - a pillar that keeps the team going along with Rein, a vital part, but no longer in a leadership position. i've seen the Blue Lion described as a "free spirit" too, which i think is also perfect for her :3

Jack - for him i had three options, all of which fit him well: blue, red and black. and instead of picking one, i decided he was going to have three different lions :))) for shits and giggles. so he starts out as blue, a free spirit, very versitile (from what i gathered, the Blue Lion doesn't have a specific "thing" it specilizes in, but instead does a little bit of everything, kinda like Jack). i imagine Jack was the middle-man, an integral part of team-building. he would have been the one to push everyone to work together and follow Gabe's lead, but he was content being on the sidelines most of the time. eventually he takes up more responsibility, sees that he's vital for the team and that he can do more working side by side with Gabe, and so he becomes the paladin of the Red Lion, Gabe's right hand man. then he of course slowly grows to be the actual leader, as Gabe's approach changes and he slowly abandons his original role, passing the command over to Jack. and so Jack's last lion is the Black Lion. also i feel like all three lions fit Jack's color scheme pretty well, so that's another win for me hah

Gabe - since he was the original Strike Commander, i thought it only natural that he would be the first to pilot the Black Lion. the pilot needs to be decisive, stay cool in the face of danger and be someone whose men will follow him into battle with no hesitation - all traits that i see Gabriel would have had to have during the first Omnic Crisis. like i mentioned before, Jack eventually becomes his second in command, and then slowly their roles start to shift. Gabe is no longer content in making decisions for the whole team, he probably also becomes more violent and reckless, relying on Jack to keep him in check. he loses his connection with the Black Lion and becomes the paladin of the Red Lion, Jack's right hand man. the traits of Red fit him well too - aggressive, relies on instinct, temperamental, plus i imagine Gabe is the type to want to get things done as quickly as possible, no matter the risk, to save more people faster. plus, again, the colors match up yaaaay!

Hi!!! I actually DO have some designs of the siblings, had to sit and make them as they've just been living in my head lol

So, I kind of keep things kind of vague since you know, it's a reader insert and everybody is different in terms of looks, BUT as mentioned in the fic, Gabe take's after Rick for sure. So he's got his dad's eyes and hair color. I imagine when he gets older his hair will also get a little curlier as well. Otherwise, just your typical baby, which I'm not good with drawing kids so he is 100% based on a ref lmao (and yes, those are Bonnie Bowl pjs Lisa picked out for him)

Lisa on the other hand looks more like Reader/Reader's mom. Therefore, her design has a lot more range for being open to interpretation. She got the curls from Rick/his family tho :) She likes skirts bc she believes them to be 'perfect for battles of all kinds'. She also did NOT lose that tooth by headbutting a kid at recess she would NEVER do such a thing-

As for writing, I love it very much! Confused Spirit is my first published piece of writing in a while, (I hadn't posted anything for a year and a half before that, six months probably since the last time I wrote) so if you're curious that's why I always get so overly excited when people like the fic haha

Musical Chairs game at the start of Book 1 + final 3some scene at the end of Book 2. How would those be different for Rippy + her Gabe and Cas? I think I remember you doing some drawings for the musical chairs some months back but still

Musical chairs scene:

I like the scene as it is because it gives you the choice whose lap to sit on + who to show interest to and I think that works best for Choices I guess. + I think it's funny with them both wanting to be chosen and getting pissy at each other and stuff and having that power in the scene. (Tho I think it could also work with mc sitting down and the choices are more about how you'll let mc react)

Howeverrr I do feel like Ripley would be like 'okay I'll join in' and sit down herself. Both due to being more into letting people come to her and show their interest and because she wonders if Cas will just back off if he has to play like that (he doesn't). I also like how Gabriela would act extra nervous while Cas is kinda just circling Ripley like she's prey lmao. When Gabe sits on her lap she's just comfortable and they're both rly giddy and stuff, acting a bit silly, Cas is definitely rolling his eyes at them. While when Cas sits in her lap she gets shy and a bit nervous and he'd tease her for it lol. I think it'd be so funny like everyone is just having fun while those 2 r just in a whole competition over who gets to sit in Ripley's lap. Tho it's only really about Ripley for Gabe, at that point in Time Cas is just trying to keep Gabe away from her because he can't stand seeing her with other people.

So like I like this scene and I think they gave The People what they wanted lol. And it felt like a sign like ok these 2 rly have Accepted that mc loves them both and can love them both at the same time + they have accepted each other too now, u kno? Like by the end of book 2 they have become a package deal to me.

But ok that said, I like to imagine it wouldn't have been a 3some. Like it'd still be too soon for Cas and Gabe and instead it's mainly just heated kissing and caressing and stuff. And everyone, including Ripley is still sorta figuring out how to do this whole thing with 3 people. It'd be awkward, I think they'd kinda be in each others way sometimes and stuff. But they'd all be like rly giddy abt it lol, they're having fun and that's what matters. And cuddles and talking afterwards.

It's like that too in my version when they get more intimate as a trio for the 1st time, I honestly don't know if they'd ever have a 3some until becoming a triad, because I think they'd both just wanna throw themselves on Ripley, but Ripley feels a bit like a fish out of water when she's mainly on the receiving end? So she prefers just one on one until then. I think part of the fun for her is seeing them Together too. I like the idea of maybe one tipsy 3some that happens before becoming a triad where the next day everyone is just like 😳🤭😳 u know which emoji is Ripley. Maybe they never even rly have that talk like ok we're a triad now lol im derailing so bad im calling it quits now LOL.

🐭 Rat - is your character charming? do they have social suave or are they wallflowers?

i thought it would be funny to make a scale so i did:

moonglend and marco are the two extremes. moonie LOATHES people, but is dragged into friend groups usually when she gets attached to one person and they introduce her to others. on her own tho? she blends into the back. she’s not charming unless you enjoy bitchy, scaley, vampire ladies who will bite your throat out in a not sexy way. (tho i’m sure many would try their luck so maybe she’s charming in her own way). marco on the other hand is a HUGE people person. you can’t help but like him; he’s exuberant and fun and funny most people find it easy to be around him.

darren is a true middle where he can be charming but he also can be a wallflower depending on how vibes, and vlad and demi are close to the middle as well just slightly off. vlad can be very charming when sufficiently motivated but he prefers to be by himself meanwhile demi boasts about hating people but he’s very good with others whether he wishes it or not.

awilda is a people person and she’s very charming. marco just ranks above her cuz he’s just. sunshine personified lowkey.

gabe is way too autistic to not be a wallflower and he’s doing his best to not draw attention to himself tm.

🐉 Dragon - is your character lucky? do they believe in luck or fate?

darren is extremely lucky and he’s kind of aware of it though he doesn’t believe in it in the way where you stake everything on your luck or something. he believes that it’s kind of just another cog in the wheel of life. he doesn’t think He had anything to do with it, he just moreso thinks that in the game of life so far he’s lucked out.

gabe doesn’t believe in luck or fate at all only believes in consequences of actions and strives to make choices that will better his odds later on in life.

vlad is too logical to believe in random luck; he’s more one to analyze the probability of luck and thinks that he himself is at a solid 30% lucky so he operates with that mindset quite a bit. he values understanding more than leaving things up to chance, but he can’t deny he does feel like finally meeting darren was fate.

awilda definitely is on the opposite end of this lot and wholeheartedly believes in fate. she doesn’t think anything happens just because; she thinks everything could have a purpose or meaning and she takes random “signs” quite seriously.

marco is quite similar to awilda but he definitely regards himself as unlucky bc his life has been rough. that’s why he tries to be so positive because even if he’s not lucky himself, maybe he can absorb the bad luck off of others, in a way so that they’ll be better.

demi has seen health miracles that shouldn’t be possible and so i think he’s a bit superstitious when it comes to fate and luck. he values understanding things like vlad, however, he won’t deny how nature is strange and things happen that don’t make sense. he doesn’t dwell on these things it’d drive him crazy.

moonie is similar to demi where she believes that nature is mysterious and things like fate and luck are hard to quantify so she believes in it but she also… doesn’t. lol. she doesn’t like thinking too deeply about things in general because it’s annoying to her 💀

Aug 2022 - Oct 2023 (time between OG and redraw ~1 year) and honestly one of the most bonkers art growth spurts I've ever SEEN. I used Tye and Gabe for anatomy and character interaction practice and I thing they were the beginning of my genuine growth because i started using references more for pose practice

Nov 2023 and the start of my BG3/ DND era. More character interaction practice and I'm playing with style

Dec 2023 and I'm figuring out armour and weapons again!

Jan 2024 (literally last week) and one of my fav pieces I've done of them. Every time I draw them I work on getting Rolan's features more accurate. The bump in his nose, the curve of his horns, the way his hair curls around his ear. I've started using references more again.

And finally

Jan 2024 (WIP of something I'm currently working on) And these don't even show how much my shading has improved.

Between these 2 drawings is about 7 fucking years.

It is so CRAZY how your art improves in that amount of time!! 1 year to even just a few months of working you can already see a difference but holy SHIT.

I find that the most growth is found when you draw a lot of the same thing. The year of my super hyperfixation on my OCs Tye and Gabe and the past few months of drawing BG3 fanart is where the biggest spikes are.

Who knew that when the pros say "never stop drawing. practice practice practice" they actually meant it. Lmao

It’s cool to have more of a sense of Columbidae City. For some reason I was seeing it as New York (probably the association with pigeons).

San Francisco apparently has a seed library so maybe Columbidae City does too.

I’m assuming that’s partially the origin of the little home garden. If not Krow might like to go get some heirloom tomato seeds. (I’m guessing Krow lives in a food desert so that would be why tomatoes are so damn expensive in the supermarket.) They’re not as robust, fruit more prone to splitting with changes in moisture, but better eating and unlike hybrids you get reliable good results from saving their seeds.

I would however advise Krow against using ‘blood and bone’ fertiliser from the side hustle on the edible plants... It is free, plus a discreet and efficient disposal method, but that’s how you get prions.

Ps. Some interesting details on the drawings of Gabe and Letty. I say nothing. *gremlin laugh*

from what i can see, you characterize gabe as more antisocial than "scary", which is fine but i want to ask if you actually consider him attractive if he's characterized as a potentially dangerous creep?? or maybe not YOU but your oc pip? how would she deal with a mentally deranged boyfriend?

It's true, in an attempt to keep things somewhat tame and realistic, I feel like I watered down Gabe a bit when it comes to his, uh... canon personality? To be fair though, in the AU I have it's not even that he's NOT just as troubled, I just prefer to write around it a little, not focusing on described scenes of him hurting himself or others. That said I do think that this version of Gabe is not quite the same- canon Gabe wouldn't really wanna date anyone or... anything...

You asked me if I am attracted to the scary aspects of canon Gabe though, and I'll be honest, I do very much enjoy that kind of personality in characters! I tend to like the weird and often unlikeable characters in fiction, and it's not uncommon for them to be unstable/ violent too. As I've mentioned before, my attraction is limited to the fact that they are not real people haha.

Now, Pipper is another story. Because she's also just a made up character, I'm free to bend her story and even personality depending on the verse. So let's say that she was in a verse where her and Gabe are in a relationship where he is not so aloof and mild mannered. Let's say he did make an effort to harm her. Her reaction to it would entirely depend on the context:

For example, if he just out of the blue attacked her, that would be a problem of course. She promised Swag that the moment she even worried that Gabriel would hurt her, she would not tolerate it, and cut ties. That goes for any sort of abusive behaviour too, if she was in a relationship and didn't feel safe, it wouldn't be healthy. Of course I cannot easily imagine Gabe being an abuser as much as just unstable.

However... there is a small window of exception. Pipper isn't stupid, she didn't just fall in love with Gabe while ignoring his obvious interest in stuff like blood, gore, knives, etc... he IS an alternate version of One, who's a cannibal killer lmao.

My point is that Pip isn't turned away by that stuff entirely. I don't really wanna get TOO in depth about any "adult" topics, but let's just say that if, in the rare moments of intimacy of her and Gabe's relationship, he was to cut, bite or draw blood from her in any manner... she'd be into it. Believe it or not Pip is still human and isn't 100% an overly sweet and innocent princess, HAHA. I've made the joke on my Twitter that Pip and I are not furries but we ARE monsterfuckers. We don't mind getting torn into by freaky creatures. 😘

Alright I figure since Lisa gets her little redux / refresher so does Gabe!

Just a quick refresher so you don't have to scroll all the way back down that tag: Gabe was really REALLY sick and Robbie was getting desperate. The Connections (bioweapon company. A rival to Umbrella Corporation) reached out under the guise of a group wanting to test a new experimental medical treatment. Robbie hates the idea of being away from his brother but Gabe is DYING and they aren't even asking him to pay anything. So they ship Gabe out, do their testing with exposing him to the E series mold (they want to see if Eveline can manipulate the biologies of other people so they introduce him as a friend who needs help. Eveline is so excited to have a real friend to run around with, so she makes him able to run around. His mental disabilities remain but his physical disabilities are basically gone.) and he's better than ever! They get him back on the ship (new facility for more testing. They aren't really planning on returning him to Robbie i mean Robbies just some kid what the hell is he gonna do [<- lol. lmao]). When Eveline throws her tantrum and crashes the ship. Theres about a three month period (instead of three years. i really don't know what would happen to Robbie if he went that long without Gabe) until Robbie pieces together stuff from their video calls and news of a crashed liner in Louisiana and GOES. Thats where the games plot starts.

In the actual RE7 part of this AU Gabe is having. A BAD fucking time. Essentially being Mia's replacement he gets the great privilege of being forced to slam his brother into walls, stab him and cut his arm off (for the small small price of an axe to the neck some shots to the chest and a lifetime of trauma).

(That blood loss is hitting hard buddy you don't look so good)

During the opening I think Robbie is just thinking that if he can get them out of there then things will be ok and thats what keeps him going instead of just breaking completely.

Gabe is having a much better time in RE8. He's a bit wary of his abilities (basically Rose's in reverse. He creates little bulbs and if they have enough time to grow he uses them as an anchor to develop independent mold colonies that he can manipulate). Eventually (after just. a LITTLE freakout [which I kind of want to draw]). He eventually reasons out that this isn't so bad because 1. he is very much in control of this rather than being controlled and 2. It allows him to protect his brother. You cant tell me Gabe wouldn't feel SO BAD about what happened while he was being controlled. Every time he looks at the scars from Robbies spontaneous amputation via chainsaw he feels so absolutely terrible about it.

In RE8 Gabe's big thing is that he wants to KEEP ROBBIE SAFE and BE USEFUL. He absolutely hates seeing him get hurt, inevitable as it is. He doesen't trust Lisa until he sees Lady D go down (she was telling the truth about how to kill her own MOTHER that must mean something). But he doesen't really end up liking her until he sees how well she covers Robbies back. The verdict for future judgement is still out but for now the best path is to trust her.

Hello, Tumblrians! Because I’m trying to make sure practically all of my Goodreads finished books are covered here, there’s an overwhelmingly high number of reviews that are going to be published this week! Sorry :(! BUT!!! At least my reading queue is being cleared up for the end of the month (which you can attribute to me just wanting to be orderly but is actually related to the release of The Wicked Bargain by Gabe Cole Novoa)(who was?? In the acknowledgements for this book actually?? Are the authors friends or something?). Broskis I was so excited for Cemetery Boys because I’ve been wanting to read it for YEARS!!! It was one of the first queer books I ever heard about, actually! And it will always have a special place in my heart because it’s the first time I’ve read a book with a trans protagonist. (I’m non-binary and also genderfluid, because a few times the trans male label could apply, and I’ve identified as some flavor of lesbian for a while although I’ve just been using the label “queer” for a while. Fits my gender better.) 

Also HOLY SHIT i just realized!! This is my tenth Tumblr Review guys :D!! Wow! Very happy to be writing one about a book I adored! To celebrate this milestone, take some art I made of these two! It’s singlehandedly the reason why this review took so long to put up lmao, it’s almost midnight where I am but it’s probably not Saturday anymore for a lot of people on Tumblr up at this hour and with similar time zones as I. Gonna be honest, I was considering redrawing when Julian asked Yadriel if he could kiss him (in Spanish!!!)(read the book and you’d know why that’s a big deal lmao), but I watched an Instagram reel and featured in it was a very realistic piece of fanart of when the two were kinda just lovingly spending time sitting ontop the car and looking at the sunset by the side of the road! Inspiration just struck.

I’m hoping to post art on a more consistent basis in here, hopefully y’all enjoy the piece in this review! (Perhaps I’ll do this with every 10 book milestone?) (if I don’t like the book and don’t want to make fanart maybe I’ll just draw a different one or my OCs lol)

Anyhow! I absolutely ate up, devoured even, cried on, and threw up this book when I read it. Whilst some might not be a fan of the short time frame the romance happens in (it..took some adjusting for me to be honest), I was still absolutely emotional over Yadriel and Julian oh my goodness. They’re so sweet with each other!! WAUGH. I was anxious for a devastating ending most of the time, but wherever my heart was broken, it was healed with some of Yadriel’s brujx magic by the time I’d finished reading. (So corny I know but SHUSH.) The “last day” chapter/scene in the book also just radiated comfort haha. (Perhaps I’m biased though, as I tend to feel in colors and around this point I had enough of an emotional attachment to form the “nostalgic nighttime blues with a light yellow and orange-yellow haze feeling. Which I shall always associate with the smell of a well-kept hotel room now, thanks to the location I finished this book.) Julian opening up eventually, and his immediate acceptance of Yadriel was also very sweet. They were overall very sweet, even if the circumstances they were in meant that they made very “hormonal teen” decisions at times. It didn’t feel like a product of bad writing lmao I’m sure that was intentional.

Yadriel was also a spectacular example of authentic transmasculine representation. I was delighted to read a sentence that mentioned a binder, resonated with his experiences of gender dysphoria, and although he faces a lot of struggle to be seen as who he is within his family, that was handled with care. I also loved the different Latine cultures present in the families in the book, there were different touches added to Dia De Muertos and it brought a very home-y feel to some of the atmosphere of the book. (Saying “some of” because the other parts of the story are horror of course sjkskjbdfbk) On all fronts, the representation was great :).

Also, if the story seems interesting to you based on the premise, but you don’t really enjoy horror, keep in mind that the stuff in this is pretty tame! There’s a few gnarly details, like (slight spoilers) an attempted human sacrifice towards the end, and of course some of the spirits turning “maligno”(conjugent for “malignant”, they become corrupted before they’re forced to leave the surface world, your standard horror elements stuff ensues), but that’s about it. While spirits/ghosts and the existence of what’s technically witches in this realm means that it belongs under the horror category, at least I as a reader thought it fit more just under the paranormal genre. The only other horror book I’ve read on here is The Witchery, and I’d say it’s a teensy bit more spooky than that on the scale? All I have to say for that.

Anyhow! Last thing I feel like talking about is that I liked how the theme of death was handled throughout the book? In several ways, our characters were trying to find closure and there’s multiple very realistic depictions of grief. I’m kinda running out of rambling juice here, so I don’t have much else to add, but it was interesting to see the different facets of loss(I would elaborate on all of them, but I don’t feel like typing up a Spoiler Segment here and it would probably contain mild to moderate spoilers if I did that without warning). It made this a melancholy read, in my opinion.

Overall! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 stars, no doubt :D! (the third book on here to be given a 5-star rating, there to join When The Angels Left The Old Country by Sacha Lamb and The Lesbiana’s Guide To Catholic School by Sonora Reyes!)
