Once again rambling about how Tim has this subtle, overly formal accent to him that I am over qualified to recognize. Maybe I'm just crazy but its a fun headcanon either way.

Its not obvious at all but compared to Jay and Alex especially, the way Tim talks and carries himself is proper. At least in a sorta southern sense. He is overcompensating for his lack of social skills in a way that gives him the most positive feedback in that environment. I know old ladies LOVE Tim. He goes to any diner and is getting called a Honey Bun, Sugar Pie, and Sweet Baby by every waitress in there. He's just SO polite and kind how could you not!?

I've known MANY a man like Tim in my life, good and bad, and each time I interact with them I instantly know three things.

1. He is special (needs)

2. He is scared all of the time

3. That boy gained human consciousness sitting in a church pew, wearing a bow tie and suspenders....And mentally he is still there.

Also my roleplay partner suggested that his love for old media came from the kinds of movies shown in the pyschward. It was likely running off of mostly donations so as Tim grew up, the only things ever playing in the living-area would be black and white movies no one wanted to watch, spaghetti westerns, and old Disney like Lady and the Tramp, Snow White, etc. Poor 17 year old Tim, sighing over an obscure 1920s romance movie he has seen 100 times, fantasizing that when he enters the real world he'll find a girl and be JUST like the sweet guy in the movie. Must have been a very rude awakening to step onto a college campus in the early 2000s.

It's interesting to me how Miles only ever admits to what he absolutely has to regarding his earthquake phobia. Back in 3-5 he couldn't very well claim that he didn't pass out at all when his passing out allowed the suspect to escape so he said he did so "briefly". In this case it's the same, he had to have been unconscious or the murderer couldn't have gotten away without being seen by him so, again, he admits to having passed out but drastically reduces the length of time he actually was out for. Even though he's talking to people who know about his trauma and the way he reacts as a consequence of it Miles still tries to act like it "barely" affects him.

The way he specifies the time "only for a second" here is especially interesting to me. Just saying "briefly" would've been enough and even not-really-but-sorta true but no, he has to actively lie about the time to the point that it becomes almost unbelievable again. It feels like him being out for so long (10 min!) "just" because of his trauma being triggered bothers him immensely so he tries very hard to not admit that in particular and ends up overcompensating for it.

Cowboy kid Knives is something u can pry from my cold dead hands but it's also,,, I don't watch a lot of westerns, but the way Knives describes it seems like he likes the high action and justice. Which yea. yeah.

A lot of ppl interpret Vash then saying that he doesn't like that sorta stuff as him having always had pacifistic tendencies but I don't really read it that way? I just see him being rather similar to Trimax Vash - chill kid with his own interests and hobbies and Knives being the very oversensitive kid so outshines him initially.

Regardless of version of Trigun (except 98. 98 didn't know shit about knives lmao), Vash and Knives have always started off wanting to coexist and be peaceful; it's just how they reacted to it later that differs. In this case, Knives wants to stand up for his friends and make a peaceful world through that, and Vash is more passive in that he just wants to have faith in humanity.

Not to mention they are kids. Young, idealistic kids. This is pre-Tesla, they don't know the extent of how horrible the world is. The loss of innocence and subsequent breakdowns relating to The Horrors is yet to come.

I also think there's like - merit in also interpreting Knives as trans. Not Just because i think he's also very trans coded (A lot of his breakdowns and story arcs have reflections in how some trans men overcompensate masculinity in a Bad Way. That's a very small subsection of trans guys btw but I am speaking from experience. I got better tho). Anyway it makes the fact that Knives is disregarding Vash's bodily autonomy very much Worse if you take the male plants are trans analogy into it.

He's so far gone that he's willing to do to Vash what would be the worst thing to be done to him; Violating his body to rebuild and make him a perfect independent ("remind him of biological reality"), physically overpowering him ("taking the aggressor, commonly masculine role in sexual assault") to do what he wants. Disregarding the wants and needs of the Plants ("women +fem-presenting ppl that he originally set out to protect because he knew their experience and wanted to help and still has that trauma from witnessing that trauma")

Ofc that's just a reading of the scene, but I quite like it as a trans guy because that makes a really good villain with trans themes/motifs! I hate him so much (affectionate)

No, no she doesn't. Meryl is making a choice and she's gonna damn well stick to it! She's been given agency and she's gonna spend it in the most eldritch horrific scene that someone on that planet could spend it lmao. Well, no Knives takes most eldritch and horrific. Meryl's second tho

Okay this fucking scene drives me INSANE. This is a memory, clearly, but it's one that's being tampered with. Vash asks Knives if they can get along with humans, and then Knives immediately messes with the memory to make sure that he says that he'll protect Vash no matter what. But that is very clearly not what was originally said, so... What did he say? What was present day Knives so desperate to cut off?

I've talked about the narrative being biased against Knives a lot, but something I haven't talked about is that Knives kinda tries to contribute to that narrative a lot. He wants to seem like he never cared about humans, he wants to seem like he always planned this and was going for justice ever since he was a kid. He tells Vash the Tesla incident was just a small grain of sand, he uses Luida to tell everyone he wants to kill Rem, he's unbearably cruel to Vash to make his point. The only difference is that he wants to be right.

So he doesn't let us see what the kid version of him says, because that would contradict the narrative he's built for himself.

I really wanna give props to Studio Orange here for both the design and way they modelled the wing here, that's a really difficult task when the guy you're putting a wing on has a tight as hell bodysuit. But the anatomy holds up surprisingly well!

Also many people have pointed out that the plant mech looks a lot like Rem, and Knives staring into the face of a Plantish representation of his mother that is created and controlled subconsciously by his brother and saying he was rejected is. It sure is a scene!

ONCE AGAIN. INCREDIBLE EFFECTS. I also would like to once again point out the angelic motifs of Knives' design here.

Also Vash saying this is SO important because Meryl!!! is so important!!! I see a lot of people brush Meryl's space in the story off and it Enrages me because Meryl is one of the most important people to Vash. Aside from our frontline yaoi soldier Nicholas D. Wolfwood, Meryl has one of the most tangible impacts on Vash's character.

When Vash is in his breakdown in Trimax, Meryl is the one to kneel at his side and believe in him; When Vash is having his god awful horrible mindscape time in Tristamp, Meryl does the same. When Meryl is kidnapped in Trimax, Vash instantly jumps out of a window in the chance of getting her back. Vash trusted her enough to fire the ion cannon in the sand steamer episode. He immediately went to July the moment she and Roberto were kidnapped.

Meryl has so much faith in Vash and she's insane for that, but Vash recognizes her and that faith pays off in giving him the strength to carry on. He heard her voice, too :]

Also oh to be floating slowly down to the floor while you're a meter away from a cube with the power of an atom bomb while someone named Millions Knives is summoning millions of knives in front of u. Meryl has guts, man.

And now that Vash has gotten his gun back, he's back to using it as a tonfa! (check I think my analysis of episode 7 for more on that). Watching for the swing blocks, the forearm guard, and thwacking the knife tendrils out of the way

This fight scene has soooo much love and care and detail in it I love it so much actually. From seeing Vash's bullets to all the expressions and beautifully detailed firing, there's so much detail in a quick space that you really have to slow it down to see everything.

Seriously how strong is Knives to be able to have a feasible chance again Vash's prosthetic - and Vash matches him! Also the chomp

Now something that I have the shakiest of theories on is that after summoning The Cube, Vash starts moving in a far more controlled manner, he stands still when reloading, he has his movement flurries and then stands still to aim. Which uh. Studio Orange works in 3d, but those are 2d animation techniques. He's moving like 98 Vash.

There's a lot I admire about Studio Orange's use of 3d (I am a mid-tier 2d artist lmao) but I love love love that they're able to get all these really nice, creative camera shots that would be impractical in 2d (all those overhead shots, for example, have a chance of turning about bad/looking weird in 2d, and puts more strain on animators, but 3d you have the models from every angle already. 3d isn't easier by any means, but it does have its strengths)

Also. how Did Wolfwood get over here, dare I ask. mans climbed a tower in just a few minutes what is Wrong with him

Also a nice detail, Vash usually has perfect trigger discipline, but he falters here against Knives, probably because he's been already shooting, but hey, he's stressed. I'll give him a break.

I also appreciate exactly how superhuman Wolfwood is now. Tristamp Wolfwood is on a different level. Like 98 Wolfwood is just some (attractive) guy, Trimax Wolfwood has a lot of gory body horror going on and a subtle kind of endurance/strength, but Tristamp Wolfwood just jumped off a very tall building holding a grown woman and the Punisher and was fine.

Very horribly, Knives probably did just save Vash's life here. But also the rest of July's life (though ofc he just extended the timer)....

I'm not quite sure When Vash started using plant bullets, but he's definitely using them now. Also the nails on his prosthetic are a nice touch!

THE FLYING SAUCER STRIKES AGAIN. I wonder if that's gonna be the basis of the Ark, if that's the route season 2 goes.

I also. Was that allI the Plants collected that escaped in this, or were there a bunch still running in July that get obliterated too? Did Knives inadvertently cause the death of more plants? I mean, when Knives gets revived in Trimax he definitely causes the death of at least 2 plants (there are a couple of bulbs in the background of the blast radius, plus the one that was used to revive him... she uh. Didn't look like she was doing so hot)

Vash's little speech is always so,,, intense. He has such a strong sense of character and it's admirable how well he sticks to his morals despite it all.

On a more body horror note, Knives can survive a long fucking time trying to grab The Cube. In Trimax he gets hit with the angel arm and practically disemboweled instantly, but Tristamp Knives can take over a minute of just like. being right in the direct path of fire. They're really gonna have to work to reconstruct him. Good luck, Legato!

God . I bet everyone who listened to the ep before me has said it already, but I genuinely think the car keys bit in the newest episode is like the best subtle horror thing malevolent has ever done.

John sorta serves the role of Arthur’s seeing eye dog. Theres an implicit trust in being forced to completely rely on someone to be your senses. And John did so good in that role for so long. He’s only ever explicitly lied ONCE (as far as we’re aware) and it was an understandable, albeit unwise act of self defense.

And then slowly the trust Arthur and the viewers are forced to hold is rattled. First by his memory degrading - but thats not his fault. His integrity is legitimately declining for reasons unknown. Its a scary thing, for Arthur, and him in equal measure. He doesn’t mean to miss details he should know, and he rushes to overcompensate when he realizes his memory has failed him. It seems noble and tragic.

He takes offense to Arthur relying on others, he seems to take it as a ‘you’re not good enough.’

And then the second blow comes. He is a creature of ulterior motives and manipulation at his core, no matter how hard he tries to play nice, its his foundation. His domain. His by rite of godhood. He can lie about what he sees. Easily. He can use Arthur’s trust however he sees fit. He can guide Arthur anywhere he wants, he can trap Arthur in any location through simple ‘yes’ or ‘no’ cues. you’re reminded that he can be unreliable on purpose. And suddenly that desire to be Arthur’s sole support seems like intentionally isolating him. Because someone else might alert Arthur of John’s misdirection and obfuscation. Might undermine his unwavering and unchallenged authority.

my hope for Revnant is Fikrul gets a small Eramis treatment. like dudes a violent nihilist but hes suffered his freinds deaths, betrayed by his "father" and saw his children effectivly be ,mind controlled by the Witness and has been trying to get them back I totaly see what hes doing in Act 1 as a sorta overcompensation. Make sure the Scorn are numerous and strong enough they cant be controlled again. Im not saying hes a soft hearted good guy but hes intresting and complex and his connections to Variks, Eramis and Crow make for an intresting way to view Eliksni culture from somone whos uttelry rejected it idk i hope that this story ends with Crow giving Fikrul the same chance he got and if he dosent accept it at least not go full cackinling skeletor evil

I would also like something similar, especially after all we've learned in Warlord's Ruin about how Fikrul didn't ally his Scorn with the Witness and wants to give them a separate life. Which makes sense with the Echo; he now has the extra ability to do so with the power of the Echo.

I have no clue where they might go with him. It could go literally anywhere, but I would enjoy seeing him fleshed out more and given some level of ambiguity overall. Kinda like yeah, he's an enemy but also he's not as bad as the Scorn that are sticking with the Witness. Fikrul wants a real and proper life for his Scorn; there's really no way out of this, we can't undo their existence so having some Scorn be ... maybe not allies, but at least neutral would be interesting. Though obviously there's a really big conflict between Scorn and Eliksni simply because in order for Scorn to exist, Eliksni have to die so that sucks a little bit.

I'm also interested in the little we've seen about the Dread hanging around with the Scorn. Since the Dread are the Witness' creations. But without the Witness, they may also be changing and seeing potential allies with other ex-Witness forces.

Really curious to see where Revenant will go with all of this.

1) I feel like this might’ve been asked before, but I’m not sure, but do you have any plans to make another part to the Sparked “Valtor wins” alt ending, or is that just a one off thing?

And 2) How would Sparked!Valtor, Tbhtbh!Valtor, and Sparked“Valtor wins”!Valtor react if their Bloom was extra mad at them and said they’d only sleep with Valtor if she got to take control?

I’m not sure how the Sparked Valtors will react since this has already (sorta) happened before, but I’m curious.

Life is being a BITCH to me personally, but im confident this is just my second act low point and i shall emerge victorious in about 3-5 business days.

1) I do, in fact, have an idea for a second Victory Incarante chapter, but lets be honest, i've been dragging my feet for the next tbhtbh chapter already. I have put myself under strict orders to not write on anything else until this chapter is done.

2) Bold of u to assume that would be a threat and not an incentive to Valtor lol

But I do think there would be differences. Given that VictoryIncarnate!Valtor is a) very aware that Bloom is only here because he has successfully blackmailed her, and b) will run off if she has reason to believe he's no threat anymore, he might wanna overcompensate. Project strength at any cost, meticulously make sure she is aware of his power at any given moment, you know the deal. I think he might be the only one who would actually draw a hard line there, not because he wouldnt enjoy being a pillow princess for once, but because his (more than justified) paranoia wouldnt allow it. ESPECIALLY if Bloom would pose ultimatums like that. He'd see it as a challenge to his superiority, get inter-universal flashbacks of his tbhtbh counterparts Very Bad Three Years, and double down twice as viciously as before. His loss, in my opinion.

Mainline Sparked!Valtor on the other hand is DOWN BAD. He is READY for this. He's spent like an entire week on cloud nine after Bloom took charge for the first time in that dreamscape, the sentence hasnt even fully left Bloom's mouth yet before she realizes the monumental mistake she has made. Now he WILL NOT shut up about it. That threat has failed so badly lmao, now he's intentionally making her mad in order to get her to follow through. If he plays his cards right he'll maybe even get pegged!

And as for Tbhtbh! Valtor... well i guess we'll have to wait and see :3

(person who asked about toji and naoya) I'm really glad you feel the same way as me when it comes to their relationship, i honestly thought i'd only get a couple sentences, so thank you so much for that lengthy answer. Also with the 'naoya being an example of what gojo could've been' thing, i think that's really interesting. Cause i've seen something similar be explored before, with people writing naoya and gojo being raised as almost rivals of eachother, but they also seemed to glorify naoya in a way, so i took it more as their own intepretation rather than a reflection of how things would have been in canon. Back to your point with gojo and naoya tho, thinking about it more, you're really onto something there, cause kid gojo sorta acts like naoya?? still different, but the similarities are there. i also just realised toji seriously affected both of their lives. I can't imagine how naoya would have been had he not met toji. It just feels like he wouldn't be naoya. Christ, you were so right about toji haunting everyone. It's funny how someone regarded as nothing impacted so much of the lives of those who are regarded as everything. i case you couldn't tell by [gestures to playback] i have a lot of big big feelings about the zen'in clan in general, and naoya - honestly, feelings i didnt have before starting it that i've come around to the more i study these guys under a microscope! i dont know if the comparisons between young gojo and young naoya are intentional, but to me they're very much there - each is the prodigal genius heir of their clan, inheriting a genetic technique that sets them apart from a young age and has them both praised and isolated for this technique. each at a young age is egotistical and carries themself above others because that's been treated as outright fact by the people around them. gojo is exposed to other viewpoints and experiences that allow him to grow beyond it, though aspects of that mindset remain in him they don't take a malicious form - naoya isn't given that social opportunity, and instead stuck in an echo chamber that eventually makes him even worse than the people around him. they obviously aren't 1:1 but i do really think there's a comparison to be drawn

and imho the zen'in clan as a whole are kind of a microcosm of jujutsu society, where even those in privileged positions in the social hierarchy suffer and live less fulfilling lives for it. literally none of them seem happy. naoya is one of the most insecure, bitter, unhappy characters we meet imho, feeling challenged by and overcompensating to extreme measures to every single perceived threat and slight. we see much of the same with ogi, honestly, with one key difference - naoya doesn't seem to have anything or anyone that would make him happy, while ogi has a wife and children and yet self-sabotages every chance at a meaningful life and meaningful human connection because of his fixation on rank and power. his family is just an extension of himself, and therefore disappointing and discarded as worthless because they don't meet his expectations.

their hierarchy prevents a lot of meaningful connections from being formed with ideas of rank and power and honour and tradition getting in the way of them. not in a way that excuses the way a lot of these guys are, but as a whole this is a generational and societal issue as much as it is an individual one, and its noteworthy that someone like gojo, in contrast, turned out as relatively well-adjusted and normal as he did - under the right circumstances, he very well may have been much worse. isnt that just what all of their stories are? under the right circumstances, almost anyone could have ended up like geto, or like naoya. to me jjk is a series where theres a sense of nurture taking precedent over nature very often, and all the spectacular ways one's nature can remain unshaken and unchanged even in the face of that. or something.

this isn't even what your ask was about. i feel like a lot of this pertains to toji in interesting ways but also theres very little to be said about toji that hasn't been already. something something nature of cycles and how his breaking out of it had ripples across the entire world because the clan is representative of the world he was a part of something the way you must break tradition before it breaks you whatever.

Welp EarthSpark is officially done in Japan via the latest Figure King magazine.

Sorta rubs the Nucleon in the Energon wound that the news of cancellation comes in a magazine celebrating 40 years of Transformers, with a cover drawn by the Kiss Players guy no less, huh?

It’s also looking more apparent EarthSpark is finito in the States too. And some staff of the show are looking to blame fans for being the b-word and the p-word. Look fella, those words lost meaning just as much as “woke” did, just take your lumps like the rest of us and admit your show didn’t work because people simply had no interest in it. Also just terrible, TERRIBLE writing and pacing. I can forgive Rise of the TMNT’s faults due to Nick not knowing what to do with it and giving the staff unhelpful feedback that kept changing it (the Netflix movie finale was a much better look at what the show was trying to be and could’ve been, but alas), but EarthSpark I have no such compunction.

Hasbro was allegedly pretty hands off and was fine with what they were doing (at least at first) so the blame can only land on the writers who clearly misunderstood what they had. I detest modern shows that have uneven pacing, tone and characterization. It’s why I don’t look fondly on Adventure Time the moment it stopped being a goofy kids show and started being some college art student’s angsty wet dream.

Clearly something changed for EarthSpark internally, and I can’t help but think Hasbro and Paramount looked at the abysmal launch of the first batch of episodes and told the staff to drastically change the story for S2. That the trailer is a more traditional Autobots vs Decepticon conflict with them hunting for Emberstone pieces ala Transformers Animated and most importantly having evil Decepticon Terrans (something fans had stated as happening in some form from the start), shows they wanted to make this into a better boy brand thing again.

The first season overcompensates by focusing too heavily on the female cast, most of them bordering on obnoxious, while making most of the male characters into morons, again Robbie dying for contrived reasons but the Maltos instead choose to love up Mo while Robbie lays there clinging to whatever life force he has left at that moment.

Instead Robbie seems to be the primary focus, with a b-plot about him having a crush on someone. I’m guessing this is where the rumors saying Hashtag comes out as gay comes from as I suspect Hashtag remarks on Robbie’s female crush being adorable and tries to be his wingman (with probably the same results when she tried helping Jawbreaker).

I feel like the intention may have been to have Mo be the focus of S1 and Robbie for S2, but it doesn’t fully come off that way as the focus is too rambling on top of trying to focus on the Terrans and Bumblebee in an RiD15 style role again.

Also what the slag is this?

If there’s one thing I hate more it’s lazy photoshopping.

Not only do they just swap Bee and Prime’s renders around, they just crudely put the kids heads on these altered bodies from their preexisting stock art… Like no Quintessons or Terracons or nothing. Nothing to make you more legitimately excited for something new. Just the same Autobots and the kids in ReBoot Guardian Code suits, ick. It’s a bit of a downgrade compared to the Prime Apex Armor suits the toys use.

Despite the cancellation, the Japanese magazine refers to a “Slash Malt”(o). Presumably this might be a Terran version of the Dinobot Slash, whose only proper media presence has been a minor cameo in Japanese manga as the kid sister of the Dinobots and a supporting role in Rescue Bots Academy.

Frankly becoming a Terran might be the best thing for Slash, and it’s something I’m surprised toy wise wasn’t attempted anyway with characters like Lightbright, Lickity Split, Rubble, Gauge, Nightscream, and others.

So once again, what comes next? We don’t know still as of typing. Skybound is still knocking it out of the park with its Energon Universe, with the Joe portion moving on to Destro and Scarlett after having wrapped up Cobra Commander’s miniseries. Of note on Destro is the possibility MASK might be getting another go again, as what appears to be Miles Mayhem, the leader of the villainous VENOM faction, makes an appearance. The MASK and VENOM teams tend to be depicted as off shoots of Joe and Cobra in modern material, and with the pitch of the EU mentioning Energon being able to power machines, the transforming vehicles might be among the first specially designed vehicles developed to combat the Decepticons… Especially since Destro took interest in the idea of a transforming jet when he learned of Starscream.

The next cartoon is being worked on now, but we don’t know yet what it is. The easiest assumption is it’s a spin off of TFONE like how Mutant Mayhem has Tales of the TMNT, but it may be something else altogether. Barring anything TFONE does, EarthSpark was the last hold out of IDW’s post war ideas, and with Autobot Megatron mark II being viewed like this:

I think Autobot Megatron is largely done as a concept and with how merciless Skybound Megs is shown to be (though interestingly he did spare some Cobra-La guys when they told him what he wanted to know after stepping on one), I think we’re gonna be back to a traditional Megatron.

People are still not really feeling TFONE via recent upload on a TF fan convention YouTube channel, calling it terrible and cringey, so at this point I’m honestly just writing it off now (even though I’ll personally like it fine like the new Garfield Movie).

I stand by a new TF anime with a fun Mini-Con like gimmick built in the story is the way to go, because this incessant need to reject its toyetic roots is aggravating. At this stage I say let Skybound do the comics, and let Japan handle the cartoon, because clearly most people working now can’t write a decent TF cartoon without getting out of their sanctimonious way.

It’s time to Transform and Rise Up from this nonsense, and hopefully One helps with that more, but atm it’s all on Skybound until the next cartoon is ready. No pressure.
