As we approach Fire Country’s premiere on the 2024 TV schedule, I spoke with Thieriot and Napolitano about what’s in store for Season 3. Obviously, that meant I had to ask about the news regarding Padalecki that broke over the summer. In response, the Bode actor told me during our interview for CinmeaBlend that this all stemmed out of the sweet fact that he’s really good friends with the Walker actor:

"Jared and I have been friends for a long time. You know, we've never had the opportunity to work together. Our families have spent a lot of time together. We've spent New Years together. And finally, we had an opportunity where, you know, unfortunately, his show came to an end, but the silver lining was we got this opportunity to finally try and figure out how to work together. And you know, the folks over at CBS are big fans – [CBS Studios President] David Stapf, and everyone…So it was, in a weird way, kind of easy to say, like, ‘Hey, Jared and I are good buddies. Like, what does everybody think?"

Well, everybody thought it was a great idea, and as Thieriot explained, casting him felt like “a no-brainer.” Showrunner Tia Napolitano confirmed that for me during our interview ahead of the premiere as well. She explained that the enthusiasm surrounding bringing the Gilmore Girls actor on was palpable, and they couldn’t wait to have him:

"He was a name that everyone was just immediately very excited about, and then it's definitely Max and Jared are friends. So Max is saying ‘He's a great guy. I'm so excited about this.’ We sat down with him, and, you know, it was just the chemistry. We were so excited to get him over here. He's also a really nice guy, like, just a professional sweetheart, so good, so talented, and he and Max, their chemistry as friends working together and on-screen was just off the charts. So we got very lucky. I was also a huge fan of his all the way back to Gilmore Girls. So it just felt like iconic TV opportunities."

From there it simply took a few conversations, Thieriot recalled, and then Padalecki was on the show.

Notably, this role also wasn’t pre-written before the Walker actor signed on, it was created specifically for him. So, it was imperative that he said yes, as the showrunner told me:

"This was written for Jared. So, if Jared didn't come play with us, we were gonna get our hearts broken."

To that point, the Bode actor explained that his friend’s character is a thrilling addition, because he’ll show off a totally different side of Cal Fire. Camden is a firefighter from Southern California, and as Thieriot said, in his world the “Wranglers and boots” are traded for “flip flops and tank tops.” So, he’ll bring a new fun energy to the show, and the SEAL Team actor’s words about that have me very excited:

"He just brings such a different energy to the show. And his interactions with all the characters are fun. He definitely comes in and makes a big impact. So I'm excited. I'm excited for everybody see it. I think the arc that he came in and did is really exciting. And, you know, we'll see where it all goes from here. But he certainly adds a lot to the world."

What a cool interview! I love the enthusiasm everyone has for Jared, from the top brass at CBS to the showrunner and Max!

Small Update!

✨: I feel like I’ve been quite busy recently-. Lots of appointments, running around doing errands, lots of planning. Today is when I get a bit of a break and enjoy all the pretty flowers and trees Miss Persephone and the other gods managed to create, with a bit of my help. *chuckles* Tank Top season, my favorite kind of season~ I also tried something new with my hair, can you see the difference?~

😈: The floor is so nice.~ But! How has everyone been enjoying themselves?~ It’s the time for vacations and hot weather. I personally have a job under my belt. A photographer needs a FX makeup artist for their photoshoot and they called me for it! I’m so excited, this is a big deal for me. It might give me more to add to my portfolio and be allowed into bigger projects! Do you have any vacation plans or work like me?

💘: With February gone and done along with touring being over I get some time to myself! My manager wanted me to do some Summer music festivals and he wouldn’t let up until I agreed to at least one-. I just want a bit of a break this Summer round but this is better than nothing! For this summer I thought it would be a good idea to practice my driving so I can take my drivers test…again…for the 10th time to be exact-. 😅 I promise I’ll get it this time! I have love-hate relationship with almost all of txt songs (it's like tinnitus is the only song I liked from the very first listening lol), but the moment hate goes to love, I'm OBSESSED

I listened to 'angel or devil' few days ago as I bought cd player and decided to listen to all the txt albums I have, and I was like "hmm... it sounds better than I remember", and later I was like "okay, cam likes it" and listened to it throughout the day, and now I woke up with it in my head lolol

tbh the only problem I have with txt songs that get stuck in my head, is how ridiculous it is, because there are like half a dozen of songs I swore to never add to my playlist but after I hear it in my head on repeat for few days, I'm always like "well... the song isn't that bad tho..." lol

so it happened to 'angel or devil' now xD (as well as 'ice cream' and 'our summer')

[also watched encore concert online with my mom the day before yesterday, not live streaming ofc, the recorded one from nov 1st, and I was so surprised that they sing live like 99% of time AND do it like... perfectly. ofc I never doubted them and I know they can sing live and I love their voices, but it's almost 3 hours concert. it's so impressive!

I'm surprised there are people who say txt can't sing because.... ears are built-in device, how they managed to not learn how to use it and I guess it's the same for other groups ofc, not like I shame any by being impressed by txt]

(it was on of the first txt songs I heard by them and it was on the first album I bought! also I would watch one of the performances so often it was like my favorite thing even if the outfits are just not it at all lol when I listen to the song I can picture the whole video in my head and I think it’s so nostalgic to me)

I think most times I actually like txts songs on first listen also every song I listen to gets stuck in my head it doesn’t matter if I like it or not and it doesn’t matter who it is ;-; it’s actually a curse a witch bestowed on me at birth I think but i’m also an obsessive song listener lol I keep songs on repeat in a way that would be very concerning to people who witnessed it happen

It’s not supposed to be about old Leroy Gibbs — this is about his younger self coming up in the Naval Criminal Investigative Service — but Mark Harmon will appear in the premiere episode of NCIS: Origins.

While talking to reporters on Thursday, co-showrunner David J. North said new footage of Harmon was shot for the prequel that launches Oct. 14 on CBS.

“That was a discussion between Mark, myself and Gina Monreal,” explained North about including Harmon. “I hope the audience will be excited to see him after so many years.”

NCIS fans can also count on hearing Harmon as a narrator for each episode. So will he show up for more cameos in the future?

“We are focusing on him telling the story of 1991,” said North of Harmon, who’s also serving as an exec producer on the prequel. “As far as Mark appearing again, we are open to anything.”

NCIS: Origins begins in years prior to the events of NCIS. In the new series, a young Gibbs (Bridge of Spies‘ Austin Stowell) starts his career as a newly minted special agent at the fledgling NCIS Camp Pendleton office where he forges his place on a gritty, ragtag team led by NCIS legend Mike Franks. (On the mothership series, Franks has been a recurring character played by Muse Watson. Franks was fatally stabbed in Season 8 but continued to appear to Gibbs when he needed a sounding board on hard cases.)

After scaling back his onscreen duties, Harmon stepped down from NCIS in 2021 but remains an EP on the mother ship. During the show’s summer press tour appearance in Pasadena, Harmon downplayed his participation on Origins.

“I’m just pleased to be part of it,” said Harmon. “And I’m a distant part of it really because I’m not there to make any big moves or anything. I’m just there to support. And how can I help? And if you need my help, great. And if not, that’s okay too. And so far, they’re all doing just fine.”

The Heartbreakers - CBGB, New York City, July 25, 1975

Naomi Fry's New Yorker Q&A with Richard Hell this week was a great read. Hell is a thoughtful guy — some of that old ego lingers, but he's more self-aware than most of his peers, probably. And for someone who was right there in the thick of it, he's got plenty of fresh insight into those usually kind of un-fresh topics: New York City, the birth of punk and CBGB.

"People talk about it as if what New York has become is permanent, but the thing about New York is it’s always changing," Hell says. "The time when I was first getting any results from myself in the early seventies, when I’d just turned twenty, was a time that now represents so much to people, a period when everything was alive, and people were doing exciting new work, and it wasn’t about money, because New York was in such bad shape that it was a Wild West frontier town, and lawless, and no one was supervising anybody, but at the same time there was an endless fund of jobs and cheap apartments, and it still had all the cultural things—great movies, bookstores, bars, music. But the ironic thing is, in a way, that situation of New York as the Wild West in the seventies and early eighties is libertarianism, where it’s every man for himself. You look at John Lydon and he’s a Trumpist, so in a way being nostalgic for that is wishing for the strong to survive."

I've shared plenty of Hell rarities over the years, from his early days with Television to the Voidoids' ruthless reign ... but I'm not sure if I've dug too much into his brief spell with the Heartbreakers. In the summer of '75, Hell had just been booted from Television, but he wasted no time in getting rolling with this motley crew of NY Dolls castaways. This date at CBs would've been one of the Heartbreakers' first ... I think they had debuted at the Coventry in June. It's a rough/raw audience tape, but it captures the woozy Stones-y fever dream of the band very nicely.

"[O]ur sets were driving and rocking, and at their best they combined the different things that Johnny and I brought—my intellectual ambitions and lost-boy affect with Johnny's defiant junkie prowling," Hell wrote in I Dreamed I Was A Very Clean Tramp. "I got to live the ideal I'd had in mind when I came to New York to be a poet—to have a well-placed platform for saying things to the world, and an audience that thrived on it and wanted to have sex with me because of it, and I ran my own life, had no boss. And there were drugs and money."

EXCLUSIVE: Cloud Nine Productions, one of the production companies behind CBS’ Matlock, has a new President.

The company, which was founded by NCIS: Los Angeles star Eric Christian Olsen, has named Amanda Tudesco to the role.

Tudesco was previously Head of TV & Film at Jenny Kissed Me, Jenny Han’s production company that had an overall deal at Amazon.

She will help Olsen expand the company’s television footprint and develop a slate of projects under its first-look deal with CBS Studios, which is the studio behind the Kathy Bates-fronted legal drama.

It comes after Matlock was handed an early season two renewal.

Separately, Anna Volain Jones has been promoted to VP. Volain Jones, who previously worked at Legendary Entertainment, where she supported development on projects including HBO’s Dune: Prophecy and Apple’s Monarch, is a co-exec producer on Matlock, having joined the company in 2021.

Tudesco helped build Jenny Kissed Me and worked on series including Amazon’s The Summer I Turned Pretty and Netflix’s XO, Kitty. Before that, she spent six years as Head of Development & Production at Carpool Entertainment, working alongside showrunners Karyn Usher and Lisa Zwerling, where she worked on Starz’s The Rook.

Olsen founded Cloud Nine Productions in 2016 and previously produced Hulu comedy Woke, which starred Lamorne Morris. It has had a first-look deal with CBS Studios for the past eight years. It is repped by UTA.

“Amanda’s a superstar, and we are excited to have her on board,” said Eric Christian Olsen. “She has fantastic development instincts, incredible production skills, and a stellar reputation with writers, reps, and buyers. With our continued pledge to never work with asshats, she’s also a deeply good and thoughtful human being with a great sense of humor.”

Tudesco added, “I’m so honored to be joining Eric and his incredible team during such an exciting time for Cloud Nine. Eric’s amazing reputation as a producer speaks for itself, and I’ve been so inspired by his intelligence, hustle, and ability to quickly solve complex problems while in the thick of production. I’m thrilled for our next chapter together as we continue to produce, develop, and champion unique stories across all genres.”

Bizet's a red!

So, it wasn't a MASSIVE secret, given this photo with Grace Clinton...

...but it was still a surprise late window signing for the Manchester United Women of Tottenham & Norway forward Celin Bizet.

Part of me wonders if this is because she's bezzie mates with Grace and GC is the future of United ergo keep her happy. That said, it would be disrespectful to Celin to suggest she isn't at United on merit.

The Norwegian international got 4 goals and 1 assist in 20 appearances in last season's WSL, and is weirdly both highly rated AND under-rated a talent. Bizet is known for her direct wing play on that right side, versatility to play left, and the stamina/teamwork to drop back and support RB or to cover a RB overload - something that would benefit Jayde Riviere undoubtedly.

She joins an impressive list of signings so far, as detailed by Conner Roberts of the All For United podcast:

United triggered Bizet's release clause, believed to be around £60,000, and have signed a three-year deal with the wing forward.

Speaking to MUFC media, Celin said: "I'm very excited to take this next step in my career and sign for such a great club as Manchester United.

"I cannot wait to pull on the famous red shirt and create winning moments in front of these wonderful fans."

Not all fans are buzzing from this summer's excellent recruitment, which is fair given the issues with manager Marc Skinner and his "selection preferences" shall we say. Several midfielders, most recently Irene Guerrero, were criminally underused by Skinner and fans are right to be wary about getting giddy just yet. That said, Terland a top striker, Janssen a top CB, Clinton a top midfielder is back from loan, Awujo a promising DM, Bizet a hot prospect winger, Malard retained after her loan up front, Sandberg in to rotate with Gabby George so we're not relying on Hannah Blundell to cover out of position... we have done well across the board. The only spot you could argue we haven't acted on is GK, but really, should Phallon not be given a shot at the no1 spot? She should. She's good, and cost enough last summer.

So folks, it seems that EC Comics is getting back into publishng yet again. You may be asking "Another new volume/series-run of Tales From The Crypt comics? More EC reprint volumes?" The answer is actually something else entirely. EC Comics (@ec-comics) (legally referred to "William M. Gaines Agent, Inc.") and Oni Press (@onipress) are teaming up to produce two brand-new EC Comics comic-book series! Seventy years after the creation of the Comics Code Authority irrevocably changed the course of comics history, the most infamous, notorious and controversial comic publisher of all time is set to return from the grave in summer 2024…

Oni Press – the multiple Eisner and Harvey Award-winning publisher of groundbreaking comics and graphic fiction for more than 25 years – is proud to announce a brand-new publishing partnership with William M. Founded by M.C. "Max" Gaines – often cited as one of the original creators of the comic book format – as “Educational Comics” in 1944, EC spearheaded a watershed evolution in the craft, quality, and power of the comics medium under Max's son, William M. Gaines, following the elder Gaines’ sudden death in 1947. Rechristening his father’s creation as “Entertaining Comics,” publisher, editor, and writer William M. Gaines recruited one of the most legendary creative stables in the history of the comics medium – including future Eisner Hall of Fame inductees Johnny Craig, Reed Crandall, Jack Davis, Al Feldstein, Frank Frazetta, Harvey Kurtzman, Joe Orlando, John Severin, Marie Severin, Al Williamson, Wally Wood, and many more – to oversee the creation of a revolutionary slate of new series that would soon grow to include TALES FROM THE CRYPT, MAD MAGAZINE, WEIRD SCIENCE, TWO-FISTED TALES, and more.

Widely celebrated for fearlessly confrontational stories that were as creatively innovative as they were culturally subversive – confronting racial and gender inequality, militarism, and environmental degradation in ways that would anticipate both the burgeoning counterculture and Civil Rights movements – EC’s urge to probe the darkness lurking beyond the edges of post-war America though tales of horror, science fiction, humor, and war earned the company millions of readers … and established a new high watermark for one of the first definitively American artforms: the comic book.

However, EC’s reign at the forefront of the American comic book industry – a period during which it eclipsed Marvel, DC, and Archie with sales of 10 million comics per year – would come crashing down in 1954 as an anti-comics moral panic swept America, inspiring book burnings, police surveillance, and a Congressional investigation that would see William M. Gaines’ testimony broadcast live in households across the country. This pro-censorship movement soon culminated in the creation of the Comics Code Authority, a sanitizing regulatory group whose guidelines were specifically tailored to remove EC’s comics from newsstands. EC’s final comics – until now – were published in 1956, and the hugely popular MAD was re-formatted as a magazine to escape Code scrutiny. Even so, the untimely death of EC could not erase the company’s far-reaching impact, having already inspired a young generation of readers – including John Carpenter, Guillermo del Toro, Matt Groening, James Gunn, George Lucas, Stephen King, George R.R. Martin, The Ramones, George Romero, Steven Spielberg, and hundreds more – who have cited EC’s iconoclastic brand of storytelling as a deep and primordial influence.

the way winwin carefully scheduled his year around the wayv comeback but sm suddenly switched the comeback dates up on him and he ended up not being able to participate ... and THEN he cant make it to the versache event cus he has to talk all of this out w the company.

personally, i felt so upset and disappointed when the news broke :( it was bad enough it was gonna be an ot5 comeback, but when it was revealed it was because sm changed their pre planned schedule it made me angry. i understand that winwin has other important activities and if it was his own choice to sit this one out, i would have respected his decision and happily supported the other five members. but the fact that he went out of his way to ensure his schedule would align and they couldn’t even respect that.. it made me really sad. as far as we know, there is no reason this comeback had to me moved up. they just did it. and i’ve never seen anything like it, how can a company not respect their artist in this incredibly basic way? it’s heartbreaking.

i wish winwin stays in nct because i truly love him and i love his friendships in the group and his contributions etc etc but stuff like this makes me wish more and more than he only does what he needs to do for his career and happiness, regardless of how we feel. these transgressions are too serious in my opinion, to the point that when wayv were promoting on my youth during the last few months of 2023 as a proper group it almost felt like a fever dream. a full group promoting a comeback together should not be a rare occurrence. it’s so so so sad and wayv as a whole deserve so much better. the fact that i felt absolutely no excitement over this cb and haven’t even looked at concept pics or listened to any songs says so much. i will eventually, but it hurts right now :( i will need some time to get over this. not the fault of any of the members, of course!!! will always love and wish then the best.

moreover i hate that this feeds into the idea that winwin doesn’t care about his group. it’s such a common sentiment in the (toxic/misinformed/immature) parts of the fandom. if anything, winwin’s actions and deliberate desire to partake in the cb tells us the EXACT OPPOSITE. if he didn’t care, he clearly wouldn’t have gone through the trouble. like you’ve said, it’s causing more issues for him. so why would he do it if he didn’t care? i’m glad some clarifying posts went semi viral, and there was a decent amount of outrage. rightfully so.

as for how i do it….. my friend,, it’s not easy. to be honest, i have had periods where it wasn’t good for me (last summer, for example, i had so much free time to dedicate to kpop and it started affecting my mental health when i saw my fav neglected and disrespected all the time). thankfully i am better now and have been for a long time, it’s really embarrassing to admit kpop can mess one up like that lol but i hope people can be honest about how they feel since it’s very real in my experience. i try not too think about it too much and keep busy with other things, i took a huge step back from stan twitter and i only follow a few yunqi accs who post updates/positivity and don’t engage in fanwars and spread aggression across the internet. as for his company, it’s a bit more complicated. i feel as though his potential has never been fully realized, which is sad for a seasoned idol so many years into his career. but it also gives him so much space to grow, every now and then i am so surprised by his incredible work in other areas, because he was held back so much. i am so glad there are people who recognize his potential <3

i also try to remember that even though i love nct and its a huge part of my life, it’s just music and no matter what happens things will be alright. we will always have the good times and memories and that makes me feel better when i get upset. lastly, i learned to primarily focus on my own friends and my own thoughts. just last night, i told a friend i love winwin the most and she said she likes him and that he suits me as a bias. all my irl kpop stan friends have been nothing but supportive and sweet. and in my own head, winwin is the best, i dont have to think about his company and random people online to hold that opinion, and at the end of the day my thoughts are the only ones that really matter when it comes to this.
