expanding upon the whole Predator Animal as a Metaphor ( compared to prey animal ) thing that Barton has going on... he does grow his nails out and file them to a point to defend himself in drastic situations. And the best way I could describe them is that he files them in a way that they sort-of resemble a wolves claws. So do what you will with that information
#OF MONSTERS AND MEN: musings.#predator animal as a metaphor.#ahh we love a man who will quite literally claw someone's eyes out if provoked enough 💀 / j#nah but barton does NOT fight fair in any sort of brawl so he is not below using these 'claws' of his to scratch people#so be sure to shield your eyes from barton if you are fighting him because he is as the poets used to say... a little ' cray-cray ' LOL

Cuddliest Avenger
Kayla has been best friends with Clint Barton for years. He finds her after the battle of New York and takes care of her.
Rated T ~1,600 words
-----------------------------------
As soon as Clint realized that Kayla had been in Stark Tower through the entire battle for New York, he was running through the halls.
"Kayla!"
Tony said the evacuation plan would call for anyone inside to head to a secure basement area. Practically a bomb shelter. Best there was.
He hit the large metal door.
"Kayla!"
Of course she wouldn't hear him. He punched the code into the security panel and the air seal released, allowing him to pull the door open.
"Kayla!"
"Clint?"
His eyes scanned through the crowd in the large room until he spotted her. He exhaled, relieved, and moved toward her until he was able to wrap his arms around her.
"Clint, what the hell is going on out there?"
"I'll tell you about it later. It's over."
He held her at arms length and looked her over.
"You ok?"
"Me? I'm fine. You look like you've been through war."
"I was."
"How bad was it?"
"Bad. Come on." He grabbed her hand and turned to the rest of the group. "Everyone can leave, but prepare yourself... there's a lot of damage up there."
No one moved.
"Come on, guys, let's go. Find your families. Come on."
He started guiding people toward the door, but never let Kayla out of his sight. The thought of her being in the same building as Loki, knowing what Loki was capable of... she would freak out when he told her what happened to him.
Once everyone was out, Clint grabbed her hand again. He led her to the ground floor and outside. She stared, eyes wide, her hand over her mouth.
"Where's Nat? Stark?"
"They're both ok. Got some new faces for you to meet, too. They're finishing up with some cop stuff, then we're heading over to this shawarma place that Tony wants to try."
"Seriously? That's what Tony thinks of after everything that happened that caused this?" She motioned around to the destruction.
"Hey, fighting aliens works up an appetite."
"I'm sorry... fighting what?"
"Later. I promise."
He started to walk away, but she tugged his hand.
"Hey, have you called Laura? Does she know you're ok? I mean, I didn't have a tv down there, but I'm sure this was all over the news."
Clint smiled. "I called. She said to do this when I found you."
He hugged her so tight that her feet came off the ground.
"Right, because Laura can lift me up," Kayla giggled.
"I'm just doing what I was told. Let's go."
Kayla held back tears as they walked down the street. It would take a long time to get the city back to normal.
Clint tried to shield her from the bodies, both human and alien, that littered their path, but it was impossible.
Inside the restaurant, Natasha and Tony sat with a few others. They all looked battered and exhausted. Natasha gave her a weak smile, but no one said a word.
"Hey, guys," Clint said, "this is Kayla." He pointed around the table. "That's Steve, Thor, and Bruce."
Everyone gave a nod. Clint picked up an overturned chair and sat it next to the only empty one at the table left for him. They all ate in silence.
Kayla traced some cuts and scrapes on Clint's arm and he grabbed her hand.
"I'm fine."
"I know."
"So," Thor's booming voice cut through the silence, "Hawk... man—"
"Name's Clint."
"Is this your lady love?"
Kayla and Clint both chuckled, and Natasha shook her head, smiling.
"No, she's not."
"But you're so..."
"Sickening is what they are," Tony said. "I know I thought you two were a couple the first time I saw you together."
"We're just friends," Kayla said.
"Best friends." Clint winked.
"You should just hook up and get it over with."
"Leave them alone, Tony," Natasha said.
"Do I sense jealousy?"
Natasha rolled her eyes. "Do you know me to be the jealous type?"
"Does anyone really know you?"
She smirked.
Kayla sighed. "Have you seen my apartment building? Is it still standing?"
"No idea. We can go check it out."
"I need to. If it's still there you can clean up. Nat, you want to come?"
"No, I have some things to take care of."
Clint and Kayla stood.
"It was nice to meet you all. Maybe I'll see you again under better circumstances."
As they walked through the streets, Clint kept stopping to help people; pointing them to cops, the relief crew, or checkpoints that were being set up for anyone who couldn't get in touch with their families. Cell towers were either down over overloaded. Kayla helped him when she could.
As they approached her street there was a little less debris, which gave her some hope. Finally seeing her building, she breathed a sigh of relief.
"It's still in one piece."
"Most of the fighting was centralized a few blocks over. You were lucky."
"Was I? Or did a certain superhero keep those things away from my street?"
"I have no idea what you mean."
"Sure." She punched him in the shoulder.
"Ow. Abuse." He rubbed his arm.
"Such a drama queen."
As they got closer, several guys came out of her building carrying tv's and other expensive items. Kayla slowed her walk.
"That doesn't look good."
Clint wrapped an arm around her shoulders and pulled her into a quicker pace.
"Stay close."
They ducked inside and took the stairs to the fifth floor. Clint pushed her behind him when he realized a lot of the doors on her floor were open. He notched an arrow into his bow.
"Hold onto me so I know you're there. Keep an eye behind you, though."
They eased down the hallway and Clint checked around her doorframe before entering her apartment. The living room looked fine, but as they rounded a corner to her bedroom Clint raised his bow.
"Put the laptop down."
The man froze at Clint's command. He looked over his shoulder at Clint.
"I've had a long day. I'm not interested in fighting or arresting you, just put that down and get out."
The intruder put the laptop back on the desk. Clint circled around the bed, Kayla still clinging to him from behind, as the man slowly walked to the door.
"I want to hear the front door shut when you leave."
A moment later, there was a slam.
"Stay here."
Clint left the bedroom, arrow at the ready, and came back a minute later.
"All clear. Damn looters."
Kayla threw her arms around him. "I'm so glad you came with me. He could have killed me."
"Nah. He wasn't armed. Just an opportunist."
"Clint, that man was in my apartment. In my bedroom."
"Come here." He pulled her into a hug. "You're ok. You know I won't let anything happen to you."
"I know, but if you hadn't been here—"
"But I was. End of story. And I'm staying. Your lock is broken."
"Great."
"I told Laura I'd likely have to hang around, anyway."
"I have the landline if you want to call her."
"Yeah. She'll be glad to know you're ok."
Clint grabbed the cordless phone from its base and called his wife while he followed Kayla around the apartment. She went through everything to make sure nothing was missing.
"Hey, babe. I'm with Kayla. — Yeah, looters are out. Some guy was in her apartment, so — Yep. That's what I was thinking. You good for a few more days? — Love you. Bye."
Clint put the phone back on the charger.
"Laura says hi, and that she'll kick my ass if I don't stay and make sure you're ok."
"I love that woman."
"Get in line. I'll go move some furniture in front of the door, then I'm taking a shower. I'm covered in all kinds of stuff."
"You could be covered in sewage and I wouldn't kick you out right now."
"Ha! Liar."
"I think I have some of your stuff from the last time you stayed here."
"Great, because this outfit isn't comfortable for sleeping."
After they were both showered, they sat together on the sofa.
"I'm exhausted," Clint said.
"I can't even imagine."
"You must be, too. Adrenaline crash will wipe you out."
"Believe me, once my head hits that pillow..."
"Then why aren't you in bed?"
"The looter has me freaked out. He was in my bedroom, Clint."
"But I'm here. Nothing to worry about."
"Just... the thought of sleeping in there. I feel violated."
"Come on." He took her hand and led her to the bedroom. "Get in. No arguing."
"Clint—"
"What did I just say?"
"Who are you, my father?"
"Get in the bed."
"Fine."
Kayla slid under the covers and lay on her side, then Clint turned out the light. He straightened the comforter, then lay on top of it, and snuggled up close behind her.
"I'll stay until you're asleep."
Kayla took a deep breath. "What would I do without you?"
He wrapped his arm around her and pulled her closer. "You'll never have to find out."

The 24-hour Avengers NYE Party that will never happen again
Fandom: MCU
Characters/Pairings: TOO MANY, but pairing-light
Word Count: 2.2k
Summary: Crack fic. This is a pure bullet-point crack fic chronicling a NYE 24-hour marathon party in Avengers Tower. Does it make sense? I sure hope not!
Content Warnings: IT IS CRACK FIC, generally harmless pranks, non-graphic “it happened” sex moments (oral, male and female receiving), threesome, stolen identity pranking
Additional Notes: Once upon a time, @honeystevie, @artsynellyyy and @chrisdrysdale threw a discord sleepover, and on night two some of us west coasties were up late and got a bit giddy and mischievous – as you do at a sleepover – and suddenly it seemed like THE BEST idea and much more appealing for me to write a crack!fic than writing any of my other stuff. Part of this was a group effort (some key suggestions), part of it are callbacks to things that have come up in conversation across the various channels since the sleepover started. Did I put too much effort into this? Yep. I GOT CARRIED AWAY, AND I MAKE NO APOLOGIES. I make no promises over it making any sense or being any good, but hopefully it can just be what it’s meant to be.
The thing about Stark parties is they’re always extravagant, full stop. Tony has more money than all the gods you’ve ever heard of combined – at least all the gods from Earth. Tony doesn’t count Asgard. It’s like apples and oranges in that regard. The exchange rate is not really comparable. But it also doesn’t matter.
This party is the product of a dare. After one of Fury’s debrief meetings, Thor starts talking about his partying glory days, hopping from planet to planet, pulling entire civilizations into frenzied celebrations and ‘much reveling.’
“What, like it’s hard?” Tony spits out.
“No, of course it isn’t hard, the peoples of many planets enjoy a good celebration, that is the point,” Thor says, unsure of why this is becoming an argument.
“But it’s pretty easy to throw a killer rager when you have an endless supply of partiers who can cycle in and out to keep up the energy,” Tony retorts.
“Yes, the point was for as many as wanted to make merry,” Thor really doesn’t know where this is coming from or where it’s going.
But Rhodey does. He is thoroughly unsurprised when Tony declares he’s going to, “throw the most epic New Year’s Eve party EVER, twenty-four hours, Avengers only, mandatory lockdown, including YOU, Mary Sue.”
You roll your eyes. Just because you are the newest edition to the team, scouted and recruited for your exceptional abilities, certifying through both SHIELD’s training and Avengers’ training programs faster than anyone before you doesn’t mean you’re a Mary Sue. You were still discovering new powers on each mission, and your godfather Nick Fury was very protective, almost sending you on no missions at all, but he knew it meant everything to prove yourself to the world.
Because Fury’s your overprotective godfather, and technically not an Avenger, just the director of SHIELD, Tony tells him without any apology, that he is specifically NOT included.
“Contrary to the song, every party does NOT need a party pooper,” Tony explains, “and I can’t exclude Barton, so I’m already fighting an uphill battle here.”
“I’m the life of every party, and you know it.”
“It’s not a darts tournament.”
“Only because you know I’d win with my eyes closed and my good hand tied behind my back.”
Everyone’s Christmas presents are elaborate puzzle boxes holding their invitations inside. Bucky, Bruce, and Natasha are all able to open theirs almost instantly without help from anyone else because they’re huge nerds of their superior intellect.
It’s got multiple dress codes – four outfits, scheduled costume changes intended throughout the marathon party.
This, of course, means SHOPPING for you and the girls.
There are strict instructions that everyone is to arrive promptly on the 4th floor between 11:45 and 11:55pm on December 30th.
You’re surprised – but pleasantly so – to see that Tony extended invitations to some of the local superhero gang who’ve gone on some co-missions with the Tower Avengers as well as Shuri and T’Challa. Thor invited the Guardians, because Rocket and Groot, and Tony grudgingly said they could stay because they were acceptable gatecrashers and every real party needed gatecrashers, but he’s threatened Quill explicitly NOT to mess with the playlist.
“I’m only here because Rocket said Kevin Bacon might be here.”
Tony rolls his eyes and makes his way to the stage, not in the mood to deal with Flash Gordon any longer.
Tony gets on the microphone promptly at 11:55. “Congratulations, you all passed the first test and have proven yourselves worthy of entering this party. Here are the rules, risks, and rewards:”
One: there is a strict dress code for each phase of this party, you don’t follow it, you’re kicked out.
Two: there will be mandatory shots to commemorate the start of each phase except for the kid – you get a juicebox.
“I turned 21 this August,” Peter murmurs to Steve while Sam and Bucky snicker behind him.
Three: you have six hours of sleep time if you’re brave enough to take it, you can break it up however you want. FRIDAY will be monitoring all of your heart rates throughout the party – she knows your resting, elevated, and sleep heartrates, so there will be no cheating.
Four: we’re utilizing an international football foul rule: you get two yellows for minor infractions, red for a major infraction, and two yellows equal one red; red and you’re OUT
“What are considered fouls?” Bruce asks.
You’ll know it when you see it, Granger. You get ejected from the party or leave, you’re on paperwork for a month. Except you, opposite for you, you love paperwork too much.
And that’s all the warning any of you get.
Phase One – Fourth Floor of Avengers Tower – Costume Party – Literally just everyone's superhero costumes
Bruno Mars is performing as everyone enters and the initial shots prime the pumps of everyone (except the super soldiers).
There’s a nacho bar, Rocket has never had nachos before, but he declares it’s a good party munching food. He says this to Bucky. Bucky is uncomfortable over how frequently Rocket seems to be appearing next to him in those initial hours. He hasn’t forgotten the racoon covets his arm.
Natasha is on a mission to infuse silent chaos that cannot be traced back to her for twenty-four hours, and so she starts subtle but strong just moving people’s shit around, pick pocketing, lifting jewelry and accessories straight off people MASTERFULLY.
Every hour on the hour Tony has an orchestrated fanfare and to signal the turn of the new year in the appropriate countries, and servers circulate with a curated collection of savory and sweet small bites to highlight different regional cuisines.
At 3:30am Scott has decided what everyone really needs to get through the wee hours of the morning is chocolate chip cookies. Sam comes across him unsupervised in the kitchen, and it’s going okay but not great, so he tries to step in and help, but it’s Wanda who sees that the trouble is they’re trying to quadruple the batch but getting too chatty to keep track of how much of any ingredients they’ve put in, and she enlists FRIDAY in reviewing security footage to sort everything out and keep them on track for the rest of their foray into baking. This was also before everyone realized they were going to get far too much food with twenty-four hours of smorgasbords, and so they only cook half the dough, the rest put in the fridge for later.
Phase Two - Eighth Floor - Toga Party - Togas Provided by Tony
When Jessica Jones sees it’s a toga party, she declares she’s out. Frankly everyone was surprised she showed up – well, not everyone everyone. Prime opportunity for some prime booze? Of course she was in. She’s not going to do paperwork a day in her life, either, so the “consequences” were immaterial to her anyway.
Thor was sad to see her go, though, he liked her spunk and the actual challenge she presented over five rounds of arm wrestling. She liked his hip flask of Asgardian mead and lifted it off him before she left.
In other arm business, Bucky was not surprised when Rocket made a play for his arm, but then gets him to agree to play once and for all for rights to his arm over a game of black jack, and Bucky wins. (Shuri had actually brought a new prototype anyway, but Bucky had already decided not to adopt the new arm until after the party.)
Someone gifted Vision with a madlibs book and he brought it to the party. Wanda thinks it’s kind of cute. Tony and Rhodey balance their suggestions equally with normal words and double-entendres with straight faces so that Vis can’t discount their offerings, and somehow the normal words end up dirtier once inserted than the intentional words they served up.
Peter drops off unexpectedly somewhere around 10am and Carol and Valkyrie try to stick Peter to various surfaces without waking him up.
Just before noon, Bruce falls asleep sitting up, leaning into the end of the couch, arm propped under his chin. Yandu and Yelena microwave an obscene amount of chocolate and put it under Bruce while he’s sleeping to convince him he Hulk-size pooped his pants. “I’m not even wearing pants, it’s a toga!” “BANNER’S NOT WEARING UNDERWEAR!” “THAT’S NOT WHAT I SAID!” “THAT’S WHAT I HEARD HIM SAY!”
Phase Three - Sixteenth Floor - 80s Throwback
Heavy into the third phase, most people aren’t eating much, but Bucky is eating EVERYTHING. His super soldier metabolism helps him burn off everything so quickly, but for seventy years under HYDRA control, he was nourished only through an IV or specially formulated nutrient and protein rich shakes. This is more glorious than anything he could’ve asked for, and Peter sets up @buckyranksbites on Instagram, and by 3pm it’s gone viral and so he’s already got three and a half million followers. Peter puts a poll up on the stories, and the people have spoken: they want Bucky to go live tasting at 10, 11, and midnight. TBD on whether Bucky will do it or not.
Clint's crawling around the vents at this point. He’s getting all the hot goss like NOBODY’S BUSINESS at this point. He always has, he always will. Clint is not a messy bitch, but lord he knows everyone else’s messes.
During the first two phases of the party, Steve was trying to hold things together, control the chaos. By phase three, Loki has taken to disguising himself as Steve and is inciting chaos with actions that are both textbook Steve and uncharacteristic of Steve.
Bonus: Loki!Steve has also kissed everyone but Tony by 6pm. Everyone knows they are kissing Loki!Steve though because he specifically kisses everyone in plain view of the Captain.
Scott wanders into the kitchen again in the mid-afternoon and emerges with peanut butter sandwiches on iceberg lettuce. “No, you gotta try this, man! You will be pleasantly surprised!”
There’s a rubiks cube solving competition, and Shuri wins, but Nebula is pissed, having come in second in the final showdown.
The playlist for this phase is epic, and there’s a thirty-minute dance-floor stint to close out the 80s theme that has most everyone singing at the top of their lungs together.
Phase Four - Rooftop Suite of Avengers Tower - Gatsby Theme
Of course, it ends in a Gatsby theme. There’s nothing more over the top and nothing more glamorous. This is what you reveled in shopping for. Your dress is perfection, and no one can keep their eyes off you. Good thing your godfather isn’t around to scare everyone away.
Most of the prank shenanigans have mellowed out by now.
Except Natasha. She’s still silently and serially stealing and redistributing things. People are getting pissed now. It hasn’t come to blows yet, but it’s close in a couple of cases. Steve is putting out a lot of fires. Additionally, Nat is hacking into any of the phones she gets her hands on and is changing settings – languages, font sizes, notifications, adding rogue alerts, filling camera rolls with bogus and innocuous photos of anything (T’Challa now has 872 pictures of the wallpaper and a very particular spot of the marble countertop at the bar).
Matt Murdock knows it’s Nat. He’s sensed it from the beginning with his particular skillset. He corners her a little after 10. How she overlooked his Daredevil senses, she’s kicking herself over it. He suggests her behavior all day indicates she clearly has some pent up energy, and he’s more than happy to assist with that. She gets them out of the party hacking into part of FRIDAY’s protocols to expand the party boundaries to include her apartment on the ninth floor, and no one sees them the rest of the night.
Bucky does go live on Instagram at 10, and 11, but he abandons the midnight live bites because they were OVERRUN BY THIRST ON BORDERLINE BULLYING LEVELS by far too many people tuning in at 11. Bucky disables all the comments on his account. He almost deleted, but he’s discovered today that he actually likes being a food critic, and he’s got this platform now…
At 10 and 11, someone else is making discoveries, too. It’s Steve. He’s discovering that it’s okay not to keep everything so buttoned and under control. He’s tricked into “checking out this strange noise” at ten in Tony’s lab where Carol, who is frankly tired of watching how tightly wound up he is, throws him up against the wall and gives him the blow job of his dreams. Captain to captain, he returns the oral favor. They return to the party, and Steve is much more relaxed. He notices her grab a bottle of champagne and sneak off again around 11, but when he follows her, he finds she’s actually meeting Val, but they’re happy to invite him to join, Val happily riding his face, not minding a bit of delicious beard burn.
As things draw to a close for their final midnight (they’re only officially celebrating New York midnight and then Tony’s letting everyone disperse if they so choose after that point), it gets a little more sentimental, people settling into some small group pockets, reflecting on memories and also calling back some of their best laughs and inside jokes.
There’s an incredible fireworks show with the finale landing right at midnight with a final toast – hugs and cheers for some, kisses for those coupled up.
Peter managed one final prank of his own, hacking in a way even Tony will be proud later once he gets things back online with FRIDAY and can get back into his penthouse suite that Peter got FRIDAY to LOCK HIM OUT OF.
And that was the time Tony was a material gowrl, extra AF, proving a point he didn’t need to prove, and threw the most elaborate New Year’s Eve Party of all time. And in true end-of-crack-fic spirit…
And then they all fucked. The end.

(TW) Abuse Masterlist
Links Last Checked: July 2nd, 2024
A.I.s and Lullabies (ao3) - Echo N/R, 21k
Summary: Tony is suddenly a quiet, wary five year old boy. The rest of the team are less than completely sure about what to do about that.
Hide A Heart Of War (ao3) - RayShippouUchiha bucky/steve/tony T, 13k
Summary: “You’ve got war in your heart boy,” Howard sneers, “don’t ever try and pretend to be anything but what you are.”
Tony feels the familiar burn of a flower mark being etched into his skin but he doesn’t look, doesn’t try and check to see what it is. Instead he keeps his eyes on Howard and his hands cupped around his bleeding mouth and nose.
Love Is A Battlefield (ao3) - crumbcrash2000 steve/tony, tony/tiberius E, 53k
Summary: In Siberia, Steve looks on in horror as Tony watches the video of his parents' murder. Expecting the worst, he is prepared to fight to defend Bucky, even through the shock of his own betrayal.
But Tony doesn't lash out.
Instead, Tony cries, and Steve's whole life falls apart.
Minefields (ao3) - arianapeterson19 pepper/tony, bucky/steve/tony T, 34k
Summary: Being in an abusive relationship was a bit like needing glasses. He didn't realize it until the damage was done.
Funny how people assume only men can be abusive.
Mokusatsu (ao3) - shadesfalcon bucky/clint/steve, background sam/natasha E, 125k
Summary: Clint Barton has been strung along from abusive relationship to abusive relationship all his life. Not that he would use the word “abusive”. He would argue that, as a sub, he was born to take whatever it is his dom feels like throwing at him.
But even with that attitude, he’s nervous about his current situation. Trapped in a bureaucratically mandated relationship with not one but two doms is going to be difficult and dangerous. Especially since these two doms are both members of the Avengers themselves.
He hopes that whenever he disappoints them, they’ll have at least a little pity on him, even though he knows he won’t deserve it.
my heart a pandora box (ao3) - Imagineitdear steve/bucky E, 8k
Summary: Presenting as an omega at the age of 12, Bucky is whisked away from his family and his best friend Steve in the middle of school. He's taken to live in an omega house under the protection of the government and for six years, he never leaves.
But at age 18, it's time to be mated. Bucky can't decide which would be worse: getting stuck with the abusive director of his omega house, or being forced to mate a stranger. An alpha that could treat him even worse than Alexander Pierce.
Luckily, the alpha is less of a stranger than he realizes.
nights like this, i become afraid (ao3) - sleeponrooftops steve/tony E, 14k
Summary: He never expects it to happen like this.
No Magic Would Save Me (ao3) - arsenicarcher (Arsenic) pepper/tony M, 20k
Summary: Once upon a time, an angel with the unlikely name of Pepper came to the circus, and took Clint away.
peter's stars (ao3) - IronPengu, parkrstark steve/tony T, 175k
Summary: Steve and Peter lose their apartment and are kicked out on the streets. Steve has to juggle between jobs to earn whatever money he can, take care of his son while resfusing to let him realize how much they're trouble in, and keep them warm and safe on the city streets in winter.
So, he really doesn't have time to date the billionaire that flirts with him everyday as he buys his cup of coffee. Even if he did, he can't let himself fall for the man. Because if he knew that he lived from a backpack and showered in a public bathroom there's no way he'd still want him...right?
Problem Child (ao3) - TGP steve/bucky T, 123k
Summary: Two weeks after Steve wakes up, a kid hacks SHIELD and sets every computer to blast AC/DC at random. Now Steve’s looking after Howard’s kid and an evil alien is attacking the world. This is the best day ever. Really.
Steve might just find a way to go back in time and punch Howard in the face.
Put Away Childish Things (ao3) - arsenicarcher (Arsenic) ot9 M, 36k
Summary: Tony and Clint are captured by villains who can only get what they want from a child-Tony. So, obviously, they de-age him. Because comics.
Safe and (the) Sound (ao3) - 27dragons, tisfan bucky/tony, steve/natasha E, 84k
Summary: Tony dropped out of college to get away from his abusive father. When his longtime boyfriend reveals similar tendencies, Tony refuses to endure another moment of it, running away with nothing more than the cash in his pockets. He makes it to Virginia, where he’s taken in by Bucky, a restaurant owner looking for an extra hand who’s willing to be paid cash under the table.
Bucky’s been struggling for years: to keep the beachside restaurant he inherited from his parents above water (both financially and literally); to live down the fact that he’s gay in a small southern town; to get over the man who’s owned his heart since he was fourteen. But he’s never had to struggle as hard as he is now, to keep his hands off Tony.
Singing in the Dead of Night (ao3) - arsenicarcher (Arsenic) clint/sam, clint/omc E, 10k
Summary: On the Raft, Clint does a quick calculation of skill and experience, and takes care of things when a guard starts eyeing Wanda.
Strength of Materials (ao3) - harcourt N/R, 9k
Summary: Written for this prompt where, still dealing with Phil's death and Loki's mindcontrol, Clint moves into the tower and,
the Avengers come across a series of odd or surprising behaviours. He is perfectly pleasant and fairly normal (for a world class assassin...) for the most part, so none of these oddities are concerning on their own, but slowly lead to the Avengers realising that while Clint basically worshipped the man, Coulson was quite emotionally abusive.
Who Saves The Hero (ao3) - CamelotQueen T, 15k
Summary: May brings home her new boyfriend. Something about him makes Peter feel nervous, but he makes May happy. And if May's happy, then Peter is happy.
Then it escalates.

My Number
Matt Murdock x fem!reader
Word Count: 2.4k
Warnings: hawkeye series spoilers, clint barton SLANDER, talks of natashas death
Author’s Note: this me actually manifesting matt and fisk in the mcu edit: I wrote this yesterday I MANIFESTED IT HERE HAVEA FIC
Summary: Clint used to work with you and knows of your work fighting Fisk. When he realizes who he’s dealing with, he goes to see you in Hell’s Kitchen where you’ve started a new life working at Nelson, Murdock and Page.
I don’t own these characters. They belong to author/director/creator
(not my gif)
Clint hardened his jaw. If Maya was after ‘Ronin’ he had bigger problems on his hands than the young girl who never seemed to leave him alone. Maya was just a means to an end, she had people above her, people that were an issue to his and his family's safety.
“There’s a guy at the top, he’ll do anything to grow the operation.”
“I thought Maya was the boss?” Kate said, walking down the street swiftly with him. She looked behind her, checking to make sure no one was following him. Her hands were shoved in her purple jacket. Clint cleared his throat, shaking his head.
“No, there’s someone above Maya.” Kate looked over at him worriedly. She thought this Maya girl was hard enough to handle, there was more? “Someone you don’t want to mess with.” Kate looked forward, biting her lip a bit.
“Is there anyone you know who can help with that?” Clint gave her a quizzical look. “I mean, you’re an Avenger! You must have cool friends, people that have dealt with her or these people before.”
“I’m not getting anyone else mixed up in this. It’s bad enough that you’re here.” Kate shook her head.
“You’re being very heroic right now Clint!” She nudged him. “But there has got to be someone.”
“The only person who ever dealt with this guy is Daredevil. You got him on speed dial Kate?” She thought about it genuinely for a moment as though she might have Daredevil on speed dial but hadn’t used it in a while so she wasn’t sure.
“You don’t know Daredevil?” she asked, confused.
“Different division,” he muttered. He was evading the question. He didn’t know Daredevil, truthfully but he did know someone who worked around Wilson Fisk before. He met a lot of people working for SHIELD and kept a lot of those friends after they left.
Like you.
You had directly tried to take Fisk down on more than one occasion. Though he had never been involved, he had heard down the grapevine of your involvement. It had gotten you hurt and almost killed.
Ironically, it had been Daredevil to save you when Clint, Natasha and SHIELD hadn’t been able to.
“What? What is that look on your face?”
“What look, I’m not making a look.” Kate rolled her eyes.
“You are. It’s your plotting look.”
“You’ve known me for all of a couple of days and think you know my plotting look?”
“Yeah actually I do.” Kate stopped in front of him, making him halt in his tracks. She stared into his eyes, crossing his arms. “Well?”
“There might be someone who could help us. But I haven’t spoken to her in years.”
“Well it’s time to reignite some old flames!” she said, smiling.
“Not an old flame. Just…an old friend.”
“Do you know where she is?” Kate asked. He nodded a bit, thinking back to when you really got into it with Fisk.
“Hell's Kitchen. I don’t know where in Hell's Kitchen but that’s where she lives.”
===
You rolled your eyes, brushing a loose piece of hair out of your face.
“All I’m saying is- Matt stop trying to stop me from talking- this is a perfect chance to get a drink because we have no court case tomorrow and none on Wednesday,” Foggy explained. Matt was trying to put his hand over Foggy’s mouth but Foggy kept fending him off. Karen was sitting on the desk, rolling her eyes just as you rolled yours.
“One of us has to be sober,” Karen said. “As a designated driver and so the office runs tomorrow.”
“Well I guess I’m taken out of the running as a designated driver,” Matt said slyly. You scoffed, nudging him. He nudged you back.
“I will do it,” you said finally. “You guys have all the fun, I’ll have water, keep Nelson, Murdock and Page afloat.”
“Have I ever said how happy I am that you and Matt got married so we didn’t have to add another last name?” Foggy asked, patting your back. “And how you are the best designated driver.
“I know that Nelson,” you said, shoving his face out of your way. He laughed, grabbing his suit jacket.
“So we all go in Matt’s car!”
“It’s my car,” you argued. Karen stood up and you tossed Matt his jacket, which he let fall on the floor. “I know you knew I was gonna throw that.”
“You’re throwing things at me now? This marriage is going downhill. We should’ve gotten a prenup.” You rolled your eyes and were the first out the office door, starting to walk past Karen’s desk when the front door opened. Foggy groaned at the sound, walking up behind you.
“We’re closed, you can come back tomorrow,” Matt said before Foggy could say anything too rude. You stopped in your tracks, Matt ramming right into you. He steadied his ground and realized how fast your heart had started to race. “Everything okay?”
“I just wanted to talk to Y/N. I’m glad you’re here,” Clint said awkwardly. You narrowed your eyes.
“This is my place of work and I’m not talking to you here.”
“Listen Y/N-” Clint started but you shook your head. Kate stood behind him, face neutral. She cleared her throat.
“We need your help and we understand you’ve dealt with Wilson Fisk before?” Matt took a step forward.
“What about Wilson Fisk?” You put your hand up against Matt’s chest, shaking your head even more aggressively.
“You don’t bring that here. You don’t barge into my life after Natalia and disrupt me anymore.”
“Who is this?” Foggy whispered to you, eyeing the two archers.
“Uh I’m Kate and this is Clint,” Kate said, holding out her hand for Foggy to shake. He did so hesitantly and quickly revoked his hand at your icy gaze.
“We’re going drinking,” you said, standing up straight. You started to walk past the two of them but Clint grabbed your arm. It wasn’t aggressive or threatening but Matt still put himself between the two of you.
“Get your hands off of her,” he said. He stood above Clint. He didn’t tower over him but his stance was straighter than Clints and more confident. Matt could beat him in a fight, you were convinced. Clint let you go.
“This is between me and her.”
“And Kate?” Karen asked, stepping in.
“Look, it looks like she doesn’t want to talk to you so it’s best if you just leave,” Matt said, voice stoic. Clint met your eyes and you gave him no indication of backing down.
“It’s important. I wouldn’t have come to you if it wasn’t important,” Clint said. You blew a puff of air out of your nose. You tossed Karen your keys.
“I’ll be down in five minutes.” She gave you an unsure look, her hand resting on your arm, like she would jump Clint if you gave her the go ahead. You forced yourself to ease up your gaze and nod. “I’ll be okay.”
Karen walked past you, followed quickly by Foggy. Matt stayed put.
“Look man, it’ll just be a minute. I’ll make Kate go downstairs too.”
“Hey!” Kate exclaimed. You put your arm on Matt’s and he turned his ear towards you. You cleared your throat.
“Yeah. Why don’t you take Kate downstairs so Clint and I can have a private conversation, away from prying ears.” Matt nodded softly and opened the office door.
“Kate.” She let out a huff.
“I don’t even know these people,” Kate muttered.
“That’s my husband Matt. The girl is Karen, the guy is Foggy. All lawyers,” you explained. Kate eased up a bit and cleared her throat, nodding.
“Be quick,” she said and followed Matt out.
You and Clint were alone, for all intents and purposes. Matt was listening in as he walked down the stairs.
“You’re married?”
“Yeah. Happily.” Clint smiled warmly.
“I never thought anyone could lock you down. Let alone a blind lawyer. Doesn’t seem like your speed.”
“He’s good in bed,” you muttered, leaning against Karen’s desk. “Can you get on with it?” Clint nodded.
“You put Fisk in jail, last time he went in and the time before that.”
“That was Daredevil but go on.”
“I need your help. And Daredevils, if you have that guy's number.” You shrugged.
“And why the hell would I help you? Last time I tried you took my best friend and dropped her off a cliff.”
“She was my friend too,” he argued, eyes glossed over. You crossed your arms, not letting up.
“Last I checked, Fisk was being Fisk in jail. Daredevil made him promise not to do anything more.”
“Daredevil should have killed him,” Clint muttered.
“Not his style.”
“It should be, for people like FIsk.”
“He’s not like you.”
“Sounds like you know this guy personally.”
“And if I do?” He was silent. You sighed and stood up straight. “What is it you need me to do?” “One of his minions is after Ronin.”
“Aren’t you..”
“Yeah.” You nodded a bit. This was awful. If Fisk was back on the streets Matt was gonna have to deal with it.
“She’s gonna keep coming at me and I just want your help with getting rid of the problem. I could do it myself but my kids want me back for Christmas.”
“Don’t bring your kids into this,” you huffed. “I have a family too, you know. Those people down there are my family and I cannot drag them through another one of Fisk's messes.”
“But you can’t let him be out there. I’ll tell you what.” He grabbed one of Karen’s papers and pens and scribbled something down. He handed you the paper.
“This is where I’m staying and my number. Give it to Daredevil for all I care. But help would be appreciated.” He walked past you. You looked down at the paper. You thought about crumpling it and tossing it in the trash but instead you pocketed it. You followed Clint out the door and down the stairs.
“Uh but yeah, I would be a terrible lawyer. I don’t know how you guys argue in front of everyone, I can hardly argue in front of my mom,” Kate was saying. Matt turned to you and Clint came down the stairs. “Good talk,” Kate muttered. “Everything go okay?” she asked Clint. He shrugged.
“She’s giving my number to Daredevil.”
“That’s sick!” Kate exclaimed. “Is he cool? I bet he’s cool.” You smiled.
“He’s very cool,” you promised. “I’ll let you know Clint.”
“Thank you.” He walked out the door, leaving you and Matt alone. Karen and Foggy were already in the car, having it running in the freezing temperatures of Hell's Kitchen. You turned to Matt.
“Am I good in bed?” You rolled your eyes.
“Obviously.”
“Are you going to give me the number?”
“No, I’m not,” you muttered. “I can’t watch you go through that again Matty. I won’t.” He let out a soft huff.
“If he’s out there again someone needs to stop him. Why can’t it be me?”
“Because I said so.” You looked down at his shoes. Clean, squeaky clean. They must be new. “I can do it, if it needs to happen.”
“You said you wouldn’t fight anyone else's battles,” Matt argued.
“What and you can?”
“You’ve been doing it for far too long, that’s all.”
“And you have too!” you fought. “Clint can handle this. He was an Avenger. He successfully killed Black Widow.” You both knew that wasn’t how that happened but he had no interest in fighting you on your late friend's death. “Plus he has a new little trainee. What more could he want? Don’t give me that Catholic bullshit right now Murdock or so help me…”
“You’ll fight me?” he teased. “We both know who’ll win.” You smiled gently and grabbed his hand.
“Let’s just go get drinks. Please?”
“Alright. But tomorrow I want to talk more about this.”
The two of you went out to the car. Karen sat in the passenger seat, effectively shoving Matt to the back in his own car. You got in the driver's seat.
“What was that about?” Foggy asked, leaning forward. You glanced over at him, starting the car.
“Hawkeye just asked for Daredevil's help,” you mused.
“Oh shit. I think you’ve made it Matt,” Karen said.
“He’s not gonna help,” you said. “Neither am I.”
“Why aren’t you helping?” Foggy asked.
“Aren’t you gonna ask why I’m not helping?” Matt questioned.
“I know why you’re not. You have a badass wife who can do it and none of us are gonna let you fight Fisk again after what it did to you the last time,” Foggy said. You pulled out of the parking spot.
“Clint can handle it. If Fisk really wants to do some damage he could come for Nelson ,Murdock and Page. He doesn’t have the balls for that after what Matt did to him.”
“I didn’t do anything,” Matt muttered. You rolled your eyes.
“Oh are we playing make up lies now? Okay, I didn’t have to care for your stitches every day for a month after you fought Fisk,” you said.
“Fisk made me feel safe,” Karen said, adding on.
“Fisk was an easy win,” Foggy added. You smiled and looked at Matt in the rearview mirror.
“Fine, I get it,” Matt said.
“We don’t deal with Fisk until we have to, you hear me?” Matt let out a sigh, leaning back.
“I hear you.” Foggy pursed his lips.
“Something tells me he doesn't hear you.”

note: hi um this is my first oneshot on tumblr i hope you like it!!
you were 14 when you first met the avengers. your family had gotten into a tragic car accident and you were the only one who made it out alive, leaving you in excessive guilt and burden; guilt because you were the only one granted a second chance at life and burden because you had to live your life, barely scraping by as you were dropped the responsibility of taking care of your sick grandmother.
at 11, where all that the kids your age had to worry about was whether their pocket money was enough to get themselves an after-school snack, you worried whether or not the money left to your name was enough to survive.
at 11, where girls worried about their changing bodies and asked their mothers about it, you had to figure it all out yourself and with the help of your trusty laptop, the only gadget you had, one that your dad had gifted to you after you had gotten 100s for all your tests at age 8. he thought you were his little prodigy and figured a laptop would treat you well. you took care of it well because while you didn't want to spend the last of your money left, —that was specifically set aside for your grandmother's hospital bills— you wanted to hold on to the laptop for as long as you could, as a reminder of your loving father, as well as the memories the item held, after you've watched movies with pretty much all of your passed family members on that laptop at different points in your life. that was why whenever the thing lagged due to how much you've been using it, you almost always figure out how to fix it until it was good as new.
at 12, while your classmates had their parents to protect them when they were out at night, you feared for your life whenever you were out past dark. which led you to learning self defence from youtube videos. you learned them pretty quickly and with your sharp-wittedness, you no longer feared to be out at night. you even had the honours of trying out your skills when some men thought they could get you just because you were smaller than them.
at 12, where kids your age were having fun, enjoying their childhood, you had no choice but to be mature and think for the good of yourself and your sick grandmother. you were forced to grow up and you were probably more mature and intelligent than the rest of your classmates combined.
and at 13, you realised that money wasn't going to grow on trees and the money you were left with wasn't going to last forever. it had to last until you were old enough to work. but with your grandmother's condition getting worse and worse, you were forced to drop out of school. you were upset because you loved it. you loved knowledge. but family came first and the only thing that your knowledge increased on was on computers.
which led to you being able to hack into tony stark's bank account at only 14. you had no other choice than to steal money and who better to steal it from than a guy whose pocket change could probably last you another five years or so? you knew who tony stark was, the whole world knows who he is. and you thought that maybe he would be too preoccupied with his alter ego saving the whole world, along with his group of earth's mightiest heroes that he wouldn't notice the tiny bit of money you'd stolen from him.
of course the billionaire had been alerted immediately by his AI when you'd accessed into his systems. "security breach?" he exclaimed, immediately dropping the tool he was tinkering his suit with in his lab.
he spent about 3 minutes, that was how long you took touring around in his systems, observing what you did in it. he watched as you did nothing about the highly confidential information he had and instead, stole....5 grand from his bank account? that was barely a scratch to his account. what was going on?
he had requested FRIDAY to track down the hacker, mainly because he was perplexed that someone had hacked into his well protected system just to steal a tiny bit of money but it seems that even FRIDAY couldn't track down where it came from.
he told the team and it was then that everyone worried how dangerous the hacker could possibly be.
"who steals just 5 grand after hacking into a billionaire's bank account?" clint frowned after tony had explained the whole situation. "i mean, if i managed to hack into your systems, i'd do way more than just steal a couple bucks."
"exactly. and who knows? they might just be waiting for the right moment to install dangerous malware into the system and until we find the culprit, they're roaming somewhere out there with all our confidential information right at the tip of their fingers. if they decide to use it against us..." tony trailed off, for once having a worried expression on his otherwise nonchalant face. he's never been this clueless about what to do with any sort of technical issues concerning the avengers or himself.
you on the other hand, after getting complacent that you weren't caught, kept doing so for the next couple months or so. you had no ill intentions, just trying to scrape by. the whole situation puzzled tony. he didn't care how much you've taken from him in total now, you were right; it was merely pocket change to him. but you were still considered a threat since you had free access to his systems and he didn't even know who you were or where you were.
that was until you made a tiny mistake, one that if tony wasn't spending every waking moment trying to track you down he wouldn't have noticed. and though it was a small mistake, it certainly was going to change how things ran from then on.
that afternoon, after having just gotten back from visiting your grandmother at the hospital, you were planning to get more money from the billionaire's bank account at the comfort of your own home. god, hospital bills were expensive. once you had had a little snack, you settled down on the couch and opened your laptop. but being the quick-witted person you were, before the screen in front of you lit up, you saw movement from behind you.
your heart raced. you could handle fighting people but those usually happened in alleys at nighttime. this was in your home, your safe place. you made sure to lock the doors and there weren't fire escapes outside your windows so how did the intruder get in?
you could tell they were trying to be inconspicuous to get to you and so you let them. you let the person think that they were going to get you without a fight but when they were right behind you, you swiftly turned your body around and jumped over the couch. the masked intruder let out a surprised yelp and the two of you fought for a bit. before you knew it, you had them pinned under you in just ten seconds.
"wha– how– what?" it sounded like a boy. you looked down at him and noticed his red and blue spandex suit. you frowned. wasn't this the friendly neighbourhood spiderman guy or something? why was a superhero breaking into your home?
he was coughing from your knee pressing down onto his chest and you lifted it slightly, enough for him to breathe but not enough to escape. he seemed grateful though because he muttered a seemingly embarrassed 'thanks'.
"get off the kid or i'll blast you off of him myself."
you look up and saw the iron man repulsor aimed right at you, and obviously iron man himself was standing right there in the middle of your small apartment. behind him stood a redhead, who you knew as the black widow, aiming a pistol at you, and a man with a shield, captain america. the spiderboy must've come in through the window and unlocked the door for them.
when you made eye contact with steve, he frowned in confusion. you looked way too young to be the culprit they had expected. he muttered a quiet 'wait, what?' before tony stark revealed himself, his iron man faceplate opening.
"um...kid? where are your parents? or guardian? we need to see them because there's been some highly illegal activity coming from this address." the man in the suit spoke. you stayed still, knee still pressing against the boy under you, frowning at the adults in the room. they noticed your apprehensiveness and slowly lowered their weapons. "we're not here to hurt you, you can release the boy now," steve told you gently.
you usually weren't one to trust easily but since these people were known superheroes, you reluctantly stood up, still anxious of the possibilities of what they could do to you. the spiderboy got up too and dusted his back, before going to stand next to steve. you were confused as to why these heroes were breaking in your home until you remembered what you had been up to for the past weeks. how could you forget when that was the only reason you were still surviving?
your eyes widened with fear when they met tony's soft ones. he looked at you with such care and worry that you were reminded of your late dad. the man in front of you wasn't the arrogant man you've watched on youtube. you felt bad for stealing from him now. you used to think that he deserved it, despite how little you took compared to how much he had. the man knelt down before you so he didn't appear so big in front of you, seeing your frightened expression. little did he know you were frightened for a totally different reason.
"anyone else living here, kid? because i tracked down this address and someone has been stealing money from me. i might need to have a little talk with them." he explained, looking around the house. you fiddled with the hem of your shirt nervously, scared of what would come once you came clean about your actions. you were scared you were going to be taken in for juvenile crime but you were also scared of the consequences of lying straight to their faces. so you took a deep breath before deciding to just tell the truth.
"t–that would be me, sir." you admitted in a small voice, avoiding eye contact with the billionaire you had been stealing from. a few shocked looks from the team and an incredulous 'what?' from tony had you biting the inside of your cheeks in fear.
"i'm truly sorry about that, sir. i..." you trailed off, debating whether or not to justify your actions because you thought that he might not even want to listen to it. "i had to pay off my grandmother's hospital bills because she is very sick. my family died a few years ago in a car crash and i was the only one who made it. i was left some money to my name but having to survive on that along with paying off nana's bills, it was bound to run out. i...i thought that since you were a billionaire, stealing a few thousands wouldn't matter to you...i'm so sorry, sir. i– i'll start working to pay you back.." you stuttered out, holding your hands together so it would minimise the shaking.
tony's mouth opened and closed, like fish out of water, not knowing what to say to you. he stood up and you were on the verge of breaking down right then and there, feeling as small as you did before he knelt before you. "p–please don't report me, sir. i– i don't know what would happen to my nana if you do.. i swear to you that i didn't mess with your other files. i only accessed the system for your bank account and that was it. i have no ill intentions, please don't report me.." you were now the one kneeling down in front of him, begging.
the team were flabbergasted at the scene unfolding before them and tony was quick to get you off your knees, which scared you even more because the death grip of his metal hands on your forearms had your mind running wild at the millions of possibilities of what he would do to you. was he going to kill you and leave you somewhere that people were never going to find your body? or was he going to dispose of you and use his power to remove you permanently from the system so no one came looking for you? he had the power to ruin your life and you feared that.
snapping you out of your mental breakdown, he spoke softly. "hey, it's okay." and that was when you realised the 'death grip' he had on your forearms had only been your paranoia getting the best of you. he was barely even touching you. your teary eyes looked up at his soft, brown ones in fear.
then he smiled at you.
"it's okay. i understand the reason why you did what you did. you're a good kid, your nana is so lucky to have you. what's your name?" he knelt down before you once again, knowing that him standing tall in his iron man suit terrified you. "y/n." you responded timidly.
"how old are you, y/n?" this time, it was steve who asked. you had forgotten that there were other people in the room, too consumed by your fear for your life a few moments ago. "i'm fourteen, mr america, sir." you whispered out, the sight of captain america in person intimidating you until you saw a kind smile on his face.
"you're pretty young to be doing what you've been doing, y/n. are you aware that you're the first person to be able to hack into my heavily protected, supposedly impenetrable network? many have tried to do so and failed, and they were really smart people too. have you been doing this for a while?" tony asked.
"um...my father gifted me this laptop when i was 8 because i did exceptionally well in school. he believed i was a child prodigy and let me have a laptop since he knew my studies wouldn't be affected by the distraction of entertainment. i used to only hack into games to cheat my way up the ranks but only recently i tried something else since i had nothing better to do and i've been out of school for a while now. i knew you were a billionaire so i tried just for the heck of it and surprised myself when i got in on the first try. and then i saw your bank account details and i really needed money so i stole some... again, i'm so sorry about that." you apologised, looking down at your feet.
he couldn't believe it. you were just messing around and you managed to get into his system? you, a mere fourteen year old who was out of school, managed to single handedly do what geniuses around the world had failed to do?
he was initially just going to have a talk with the hacker, and in case they were dangerous and had backup, he brought his own. but bringing steve, natasha and peter proved to be unnecessary when the culprit turned out to be you.
"where did you learn those moves?" natasha stepped closer towards you. you looked up at the redhead, noticing the glare she had on you when she aimed her pistols at you was replaced with curiosity.
you fiddled with the hem of your shirt even more, embarrassed to tell her that you learned to fight from a couple of youtube videos when she had gotten years of actual training. you were pathetic compared to her. "i, um, i learned them from some youtube videos."
her eyebrows raised in surprise at the revelation. you hadn't gotten professional training yet you moved like you had. peter had superhuman strength, agility and endurance yet you took him down in under ten seconds. sure it may have been a disadvantage to peter because he was caught off guard but he should've been able to take you down still.
now was tony going to let the chance of a lifetime slip by? no, of course he was immediately thinking of recruiting you. your dad had been right about you being a prodigy. you adapted to new skills quickly and you were perfect for recruitment.
"hey kid, wanna be an avenger?"
your eyes widened and your jaw dropped in shock. steve immediately turned to him, an incredulous look on his face as he glared dangerously at the billionaire. "stark, you wanna think about this for a minute?"
"thank about what, cap? you saw what she did to the spiderling. and she successfully hacked into my system on her first try and we took weeks to trace her. romanoff back me up here," he saw how impressed natasha was by you and he knew the redhead wasn't going to disagree. "stark's right, steve. she's only fourteen and she's capable of so much already. we need someone like her."
"exactly! she's only fourteen! this life is dangerous for her!" steve argued. peter then tapped his shoulder to get his attention. "hey, mr rogers, i'm a sixteen-year-old avenger and she took me down easily. not gonna lie, it hurt my pride, also my back when you flipped me over your shoulder," he turned to you but you didn't say anything because you couldn't see his facial expression. "but i think she's going to be okay, sir."
steve sighed before turning to you, the defeated expression on his face softening when you looked up at him with your doe eyes and a small smile. you didn't answer to tony just yet since it seemed that steve had a say in it as well but you were dying to say yes. not only were you not going to be reported for your crimes but to be recruited by iron man himself to be an avenger? who could say no to that? not you, at least, since you had nothing better to do with your life at the moment.
"well, what do you say, kid?"
your smile grew and you nodded happily. the team couldn't help but crack a smile at how happy you looked for the first time since they've encountered you.
"well, you should go pack your important stuff so we can go back to the tower. you're going to be moving in if you're an official member of the avengers." tony told you and you nodded, walking towards your room to start packing while the team sat on the couch to wait for you.
"wait, what's going to happen to my nana?" you turned back towards them, worry etched onto you face. "don't worry about it, kid. you can give me the details later and i'll settle it. she'll be in good hands." he assured. "okay." you mumbled in response.
you were actually going to be an avenger. "awesome.." you grinned to yourself as you packed.

for blurb time!
nat and reader are playing uno and one of them is losing so bad that the other is sure that they have to be cheating
Pairing: Natasha Romanoff x reader
Warnings: profanity, mentions of violence lol
**************************************************
“Draw four,” Nat said with a cocky smirk and you groaned in frustration.
The two of you had been playing uno for the past three hours, Nat winning every single round. But you were determined to win one round before you called it quits.
You would think that, as your girlfriend, maybe, just maybe, Nat would be willing to cut you some slack and let you win a round. But the problem with dating the Black Widow, is that she is just as competitive as you were.
Game nights were discontinued as a result of Nat holding Clint in a headlock while you kicked him in the balls when he stole your shared property in Monopoly: Cheater’s Edition.
So now, here the two of you were, Nat smirking cockily at you while you glared at her.
“This is your fifth ‘draw four’ card of the round! You have to be cheating,” you accused and Nat rolled her eyes.
“Y/N, I am not cheating. Maybe you should just accept the fact that I’m better at Uno than you.”
You slammed your fist down on the table. “NO! You’re cheating, you stole one of my cards, I’m convinced.”
Natasha stared at you incredulously. “Babe, I’ve been over here the entire time. How the hell would I steal one of your cards??”
You shrugged, not ready to admit how ridiculous you were being. “You tell me! I’m not the ex-assassin super spy person in this relationship! You probably did it while I wasn’t looking!”
She looked about ready to yell right back at you when Steve entered the room.
“I thought I caught wind of you playing Uno. You two know the rules. No games between the two of you in public spaces. The last thing we want is for Shield’s former two best agents to get into a fight in the living room.”
You and Nat rolled your eyes.
“Cap, she’s my girlfriend, I’m not going to attack her,” you said as if it was obvious.
At that very moment, Clint’s head popped out from the overhead vent.
“Are you sure about that? Because I’m pretty sure you were just yelling at her and accusing her of cheating,” he said.
You rose from your seat, glaring at the archer. “You want a round two of Monopoly, Barton?”
Nat stood beside you, placing an arm protectively around your waist. “Yeah, leave my girlfriend alone, Barton, unless you want two kicks instead of one this time.”
He yelped and quickly disappeared back into the vents.
“I don’t want any fights, understand?” Steve said and you and Nat nodded, clearly annoyed.
Finally, Steve walked off and it was just the two of you again.
“I don’t get why, everyone thinks we’re going to kill each other. I know I can be intense when playing games sometimes, but you know I never mean anything I say, right?” You asked, suddenly concerned that you had upset your girlfriend.
Nat cupped your face and smiled softly at you. “Of course I know that, lyubov. And you know that it’s not that I don’t want you to win, right? I’m just competitive by nature, and if that ever bothers you-”
You shook your head and smiled at her. “It doesn’t bother me at all, Natty.”
She grinned and pulled you into a soft kiss before pulling away and leading you back to the table.
The two of you played in comfortable silence for once in your lives, until-
“UNO!” You yelled victoriously, jumping up and doing a dance for joy.
Nat looked at you with guilty eyes, causing your joy to cease immediately.
“Babe,” you tried.
“I’m sorry, detka.”
“What cards do you have?” You said suspiciously.
She bit her bottom lip to hide a smirk and placed down a ‘Swap Hands’ card. Your mouth fell open, before a scowl made its way onto your features.
“Time to swap hands, malyshka.” She said, an amused look taking over her face.
“OH FUCK OFF!”

Steve Rogers Fanfiction Recommendations
Happy birthday, Steve!
I know that there are some (a lot?) of steve fans who sometimes struggle to find fics focused on him, so I am here now putting a list of Steve fics. I was going to fics that I haven't seen recommended a lot and most of the ones on this post have less than 200 kudos only, but I end up putting everything (it's probably easier to put my bookmarks as public but well...). It's a massive list (over 100 fics?), so it's will be separated into several posts/reblogs.
Not all of them are from Steve's POV or even have him as the main 'main' character, but rest assured he played an important role and is featured heavily. Lots of these are friendship-focused but I categorized them. The shippy ones are mostly samsteve, thundershield, and some rare pairings because I don't venture to other ships a lot and when I did it's to the rare ones instead lol. Hopefully, any of you can find some gems from this list and these are as enjoyable or as good as I remembered. I'll continue to update it, hopefully, every time I find new ones.
Fics are under read more.
General
The Rocket's Red Glare
Steve was born on the Fourth of July (no joke), so a party is in order! Unfortunately, PTSD decides to rear its ugly head. Fortunately, Steve's got an entire team at his back to help him through it. And screaming goats.
an entry in the scrapbook of absurdity
In which Steve turns into a baby and bites people.
Baby Steve Adventures
Captain America gets hit by a spell during a battle. The rest of the Avengers look after him.
Do You Remember Being Happy? ('Cause I Sure Don't)
"Dragr," Thor called them. "Demons" Clint had said. "Thieves" is what Steve labels them as. AKA, the one where Steve is captured by creatures that feed off of happy memories, and the team is left to pick up the pieces. Post-Avengers.
In Search of (Bucky, Family, Home)
Pairings: Steve Rogers & Natasha Romanov & Sam Wilson
A week following the events of CATWS, Steve recruits Natasha and Sam to help find Bucky.
Sam raised an eyebrow. “Do we need to recap again? You were shot three times, beaten near to death by an enhanced super soldier with a metal arm and then almost drowned. Yeah, your ass is going to need a few more days of healing time.”
The Truth When Captains Meet
Steve Rogers wakes up on an alien’s space ship being carried bridal style by Carol Danvers. As far as first meetings go, it’s memorable.
Irish Coffee
Pairings: Jessica Jones & Steve Rogers
Jessica runs into an incognito Cap at a cafe. They form an unlikely friendship of sorts.
The Lifetimes of Steve Rogers (Series)
What happens when Steve Rogers steps onto the quantum platform to return the Stones? Where does he go? What challenges does he find? Who does he meet? How many lifetimes can one man have?
Fifty-Two Pickup
Less than a week after the fall of the Triskelion, Steve Rogers is released from the hospital. Although his physical wounds are almost fully healed, other injuries need a bit more time, and some help from friends.
little kids get big so fast
Steve ends up having to take care of the deaged Defenders.
Grampa Steve's Bedtime Stories
If Mommy was away for work, then Morgan’s Grampa Steve came over to stay with her. He’d tuck her in, let her give Mommy a kiss on video chat, then hand her the picture of Daddy for his kiss. Once Daddy’s picture was back on the bookshelf, Grampa Steve would turn off the bedside lamp so that Miss Friday could cover the ceiling with stars, and ask Morgan what story she wanted to hear.
“Captain Steve, Grampa! Tell me Captain Steve!”
Grampa Steve sometimes read to her from books and other times watched a movie with her, but her favorite by far was when he told her Captain Steve’s Adventures Through the Multiverse.
On Camping Trips
Sam is more Hermione than Natasha is, and Steve doesn't want to be Harry.
Powerful
Steve loses the advantages of the super-soldier serum. This is not a tragedy.
His Dream
Pairings: Steve Rogers & Sam Wilson
As if on cue, Steve cut him off with a loud sneeze.
"Yeah. Like that." Sam nodded. "And please sneeze into your elbow next time, dude. You could've just started an epidemic."
"Sorry. Allergies." Steve excused, and Sam raised an eyebrow.
"How do you know it's allergies?" Sam asked, and Steve sighed, putting the ingredients together and solving the mystery of what the gas had actually done.
The answer wasn't ideal. "It feels like the seasonal allergies I had before. Before the serum- and I haven't had them since the serum."
Realization clicked in Sam's head.
"The gas de-serumed you."
Steve swallowed and nodded reluctantly.
OR: Steve gets temporarily de-serumed, with his height and stature staying the same but his immune system being as bad as it was before, and has to stay in the hospital to prevent a severe allergic reaction or illness. Sam stays with him the whole time, making sure he's not alone.
A Strange Encounter
Things have gone awry and Strange is injured. With no other options, he's called for assistance from Captain America and his team.
even if we're apart, i'll always be with you
Steve finds a dirty toy bear at an abandoned gas station, on the way back from a school trip. He brings him home.
As Long as You’re Not Tired Yet of Talking
Pairings: Steve Rogers & Natasha Romanov
When Steve Rogers tells her, “Don’t be a stranger,” as they’re all going their own ways after New York, it makes her want to laugh.
Draw/Breath
Pairings: Steve Rogers & Natasha Romanov
Natasha like knowing what makes people tick. She likes knowing things, about her teammates and her coworkers and herself. Oddly enough, sometimes other people like knowing her too.
AKA: Natasha wants to know why Steve isn’t drawing anymore, and takes the long way round to get her answer. Because why not.
With Magic We Do Fly
Pairings: Wanda Maximoff & Steve Rogers
In Civil War we see Wanda fling Steve into the air with her magic. They must have practiced that, right?
Que Wanda throwing Steve against a wall. Many times.
Just Like We Practiced
Pairings: Wanda Maximoff & Steve Rogers
Steve had said, in the movie when he asked Wanda to lift him into the building, "Just like we practiced." But just how did they come up with the idea of her lifting people with her powers, and putting them up somewhere like an escalator? Perhaps it was because Wanda accidentally sent a certain tall, blond Avenger face-first into the floor once and he decided he would help her learn to utilize this as a confidence building exercise. Natasha keeps an eye, Thor and Sam help build the training grounds, and Wanda has found her new home. Takes place between AGE OF ULTRON and CIVIL WAR.
Black and White but Red and Blue
They're watching black and white film reels, but Steve sees them in colour.
"My shield may be black and white but it was red and blue. Just like the blue sky under which red blood was spilled. Like Bucky's blue eyes and Peggy's red lips..."
The Road Warriors
Characters: Sam Wilson (Marvel), Steve Rogers, Natasha Romanov (Marvel), Wanda Maximoff
It wasn't pretty, but somehow the four of them managed to make it through two years on the run.
We'll Fix It
Pairings: Steve Rogers & Natasha Romanov
Steve has a hard time after his battle with The Winter Soldier and isn't sure what to do with himself. After not seeing him for a week, Natasha finally shows up to his apartment unannounced to figure out how they can get back to work. There is some crying involved.
From Here On Out
Pairings: Steve Rogers & Natasha Romanov
The Accords, the search for Bucky, the fight at the airport ... In a world where nothing will ever be the same, sometimes the road to rebuilding trust and friendship is a little rockier than it should be.
AKA, the story of Steve & Natasha and how they got to where they are.
Set post-Civil War but pre-Infinity War.
I have this breath and I hold it tight
Parings: Wanda Maximoff & Steve Rogers, Clint Barton & Wanda Maximoff, Wanda Maximoff & Vision
Steve finally goes to Wanda’s tiny room and taps on the doorframe, although it’s hardly necessary, with the slightly warped floorboards creaking under his feet. “Hey,” he says. “Got a minute?”
Wanda's been a little withdrawn since Steve broke everyone out of the Raft. She's had a lot to think about.
to you.
Pairings: Pietro Maximoff & Wanda Maximoff, Clint Barton & Wanda Maximoff, Wanda Maximoff & Natasha Romanov, Wanda Maximoff & Steve Rogers, Wanda Maximoff & Sam Wilson, Wanda Maximoff & Tony Stark
It's Wanda's birthday today. She's not sure how to feel.
New Love
Pairings: Diana (Wonder Woman) & Steve Rogers
Near the end of World War II, Diana Prince finds herself attempting to reconnect to her long-gone, beloved Steve Trevor. However, she comes across Steve Rogers instead.
Sharing Life (And Canned Green Beans)
Pairings: Steve Rogers & Natasha Romanov
It’s Thanksgiving, and Steve is hiding in the second living room on the 8th floor of the penthouse apartments with a can of green beans.
I'm Fine
Steve slowly began to realize that the problem with being a national icon, a hero, and a role model, is that somehow, he became more than human. He become a symbol, not a person. So when he becomes increasingly unhappy, deeply depressed, and utterly adrift in a world where he doesn't belong, the loneliness and isolation are unbearable. How could anyone believe that an iconic hero like himself was really just an ordinary kid from Brooklyn, dying inside because everything he'd gained still wasn't enough to replace everything he'd lost? How could he possibly bring himself to bleed on the ones he loves? So he tells himself the same lie over and over, hoping one day, he'll believe it.
dogpile
"My dog ate my mission report" An injured Steve remembers something he has to do. Unabashed Steve and dogs fluff. "Didn't peg you for a pet guy." "Allergies."
Alone In This World (Together)
Pairings: Steve Rogers & Natasha Romanov & Sam Wilson
“We’re fugitives,” Steve said finally. “It might never get better.”
“The world’s always going to need saving," Sam replied. "We’re still Avengers. No one can take that away from us.” Then, like they hadn't been having an entire conversation before, “So when do we leave?”
“Once night falls.”
Do we have any idea where she is?”
“No.” Steve took a sip of his coffee. “But I know where she’ll be.”
it gets the worst at night
Pairings: Steve Rogers & Natasha Romanov
Here's how it goes: Natasha sometimes shares a bed with Steve. It's not what it sounds like.
(In which there are Colombian drug lords, awkward boners, cuddly super-soldiers and the Avengers are all giant dorks.)
Shelter
Pairings: Steve Rogers & Sam Wilson
Sam and Steve, right after the fall of SHIELD.
Princely Bickering
Pairings: Jane Foster/Thor, Steve Rogers & Sam Wilson, Steve Rogers & Jane Foster, Steve Rogers & Thor
Steve allows Sam to lean up and inspect his head for bruises and blood. He then checks out Steve’s eyes. ‘Do you know where you are?’ Steve rolls his eyes. ‘Don’t be an ass, Cap, apparently you can break.’ ‘London, England, chasing apparently useless Hydra intel despite having about five hundred international arrest warrants out for us because we’re just that stupid,’ says Steve. Sam pats him - gently - on the shoulder. Life on the run isn't easy, especially not after an injury. Fortunately Steve still has a few allies left.
And The Seconds Tick Down
AU of Civil War. How the world ended in twenty steps when Steve died.
"Grant" and "Francis" Go Shopping
Pairings: Clint Barton & Steve Rogers
Steve and Clint both have holiday shopping to do for their family of choice, so they make a day trip to an outlet mall, have a few heart to hearts, use some coupons, buy a bunch of presents, and eventually get through their shopping lists.
A Tune Without Words
Pairings: Jane Foster/Thor, Steve Rogers & Thor, Steve Rogers & Sam Wilson
As he and Sam prepare to begin searching for Bucky, Steve gets various offers of help—some more unexpected than others.
Purpose
Tony Stark wins the fight in Siberia completely by accident.
Steve Rogers does not resist his arrest as he is taken to the Raft.
Sam Wilson, T'Challa, and Pepper Potts pick up the pieces.
Full of Wounds and Still Standing on my Feet
Pairings: Steve Rogers & Wanda Maximoff
The five times Steve looked out for Wanda, and one time Wanda decided someone needed to look out for Steve.
Three Awakenings
The first three times that Steve Rogers woke up during his first twenty-four hours in the twenty-first century.
Making Your Own Future
Characters: Steve Rogers, Diana Prince, Steve Trevor Five times -- plus one -- that Diana Prince and Steve Rogers encountered one another.
Better Living Through Pizza
Pairings: Clint Barton & Steve Rogers
Steve takes some time off from soldiering and Avengering to get his head on straight, and Clint is assigned to keep an eye on him, because apparently SHIELD believes in the blind leading the blind. Steve really needs a hobby, since modern television shows baffle him, but Clint keeps bringing him DVDs and pizza.
Five Times Clint Barton Spoke with Steve Rogers about Growing Old and the One Time He Didn't.
Pairings: Clint Barton & Steve Rogers
When Steve Rogers reappeared from the past as an old man, there was a lot of catching up to do. Clint Barton made sure nobody got left behind.
Hammer's Totally Heavy-Handed and Incompetent Revenge
"So, at the end of IM2, Justin Hammer swears revenge on Pepper. He waits until Tony and Rhodey are halfway across the world to launch his attack.
Unfortunately for him, thanks to SHIELD, Iron Man and War Machine aren't the only superheroes in Pepper's rolladex. Steve thinks Pepper's just swell and doesn't take too kindly to somebody trying to hurt her."
Cue badass!Steve and competent!Pepper
Fan Mail
Steve starts getting his fan mail and receives an invitation to the prom. Written for a prompt at the Avengers kink meme. It was a great prompt, and so much fun to write and get feedback for!
Prom. Steve 'Grandpa Iceberg' Rogers at a 21st-century high school prom. "This isn't happening. This whole conversation is just an elaborate practical joke. Bruce really just has orders for widgets or something."
Bruce waved the printouts at him. "Fraid not. I don't really do practical jokes. Messing with other people's moods just seems. I don't know. Karmically unwise."
Mascot
Steve runs. People see Steve run. Steve gets adopted by the neighbourhood he runs through every week day morning. He finds this confusing. Tony finds it amusing.
Locks Not Replaced
Tony angsts back at Avengers' HQ, Ross is a bully and Steve makes sure he doesn't get away with it. In other words, there is much regret, a bit on the philosophy of locks, adventure and far too many Robin Hood metaphors.
woof
For a prompt on the avengers kinkmeme: "...something different happens when Steve gets Dr Erskine's serum plus the Vita ray treatment... Steve does get taller and stronger, but when the first full moon hits, he turns into a big friendly looking dog. Yes, he's a weredog, not a werewolf."
Mission: Baby
Pairings: James "Bucky" Barnes & Steve Rogers
The Asset finds himself in charge of the care of a small baby, but somehow he knows—he has to protect the baby from all harm, whatever the cost.
14 Tracks
Pairings: Peggy Carter/Steve Rogers, Steve Rogers & Avengers Team 14 tracks from Steve's iPod and how they got on there.
Life Will Rattle Your Bones
Pairings: Erik Lehnsherr & Steve Rogers
Captain America and the Howling Commandos find Schmidt sooner than they thought... wait, what do you mean this is a *different* Schmidt?
In war-torn Germany, the paths of Steve Rogers and Erik Lehnsherr cross, part, and cross again.
come build me up
Pairings: Sharon Carter & Steve Rogers, Steve Rogers & Sam Wilson, James "Bucky" Barnes & Steve Rogers
“Do you ever feel like -- like you joined up because you wanted to do good. You wanted to do the right thing but somewhere along the way, you just lost the whole fucking plot.”
“All of the time.”
Or: the one where Captain America and Agent 13 give long distance friendship a whirl.
Down in the Worn Out Place Again
Pairings: Wanda Maximoff & Natasha Romanov, Steve Rogers & Natasha Romanov, Steve Rogers & Wanda Maximoff
“You don't look a day over 85, Captain,” Wanda says.
Natasha smiles, just barely, and nudges Steve with her elbow. “She makes jokes now.”
(Post AoU, stories about friendship.)
Satellites
Characters: Natasha Romanov, Steve Rogers, Sam Wilson (Marvel), Tony Stark, Clint Barton, Nick Fury Pairings: Natasha Romanov & Steve Rogers, Minor Steve Rogers/Sam Wilson, Minor Clint Barton/Natasha Romanov
In the immediate aftermath of SHIELD's collapse and Steve's plunge into the Potomac, Natasha considers her place in the world. Also the fact that Steve is depressing.
Timeless Classics
Pairings: Steve Rogers & Avengers Team Five An undetermined number of times (six, apparently) Steve unexpectedly got the reference (sort of), and one time everyone discovered something new together.
you just wait and see
Pairings: Rocket Raccoon & Steve Rogers
“Thor said you’re the captain.” Rogers says, his voice distant, sad smile growing into a sadder grin. “Tough job.”
The Small Hours
Pairings: Steve Rogers & T'Challa, James "Bucky" Barnes & Steve Rogers
"I'm not getting him back, am I." The words were flatly delivered – not a question so much as fatigued resignation. "We will do everything we can to help him," T'Challa quietly replied, but he wouldn't lie, not about this. Not to a fellow warrior he respected on and off the field of battle. "The possibility does exist, however, that the triggers are permanent."
The Man We All Remember From the Newsreels
Still getting used to the twenty-first century, Steve comforts himself with memories of long-gone friends. But Howard Stark, the man Steve remembers, is nothing like the man he sees in the newsreels.
we're all choir boys at best
Characters: Steve Rogers, Johnny Storm
You are totally getting laid tonight. "Please stop talking." You hijacked my brain first, this is totally not my fault.
Epistaxis
Steve doesn't worry the first time he gets a bloody nose that won't quit. But when it happens a second, third, fourth... He, and his teammates, start to get concerned.
You Close Your Eyes and the Glory Fades
His body isn’t his own, he knows that, knew before the procedure that everything would change. That was the easiest thing to wrap his head around, actually, the physical changes. He’s used to his body betraying him, so this is just another thing to learn his way around. But the colors of everything, even the sliver of blue sky he could see, craning his head at the tiny window, look different.
Looking For Answers (From The Great Beyond)
After the Battle of New York is over, and Loki and the tesseract are returned to Asgard, Steve takes a road trip across the country, and tries to figure out what he wants to do next.
Mourning the Future
Steve's ties to the past and the future are pretty tenuous, and the serum ensures he lives in an eternal present state of ever-youthful vigour. When an old war buddy gets handed his last marching orders, Steve has to wonder if everyone will eventually leave.
Riviera Life
Sam and Steve have been traversing Europe looking for Bucky. Not everyone is convinced it isn’t an open invitation road trip.
Voluntary Bros.
Characters: Steve Rogers, Johnny Storm
"Dude, you could be twins, they tested you before they defrosted you to see if you were a clone or something, or if he was a clone," Clint said.
"I want to talk to him, I think. I mean, a girl threw her latte at me last week for not calling her back and this dude felt me up at an art gallery yesterday," Steve said.
Two Brooklynites and One Big Apple
Pairings: Miles Morales & Steve Rogers, James "Bucky" Barnes/Steve Rogers
“You did good out there today,” Captain America said, brushing a layer of detritus from his unfathomably broad shoulder. “I’ll see you around.”
“Not if I see you first,” replied Miles, fingergunning with one hand as he sent a web rope fwipping off into the distance with the other, catapulting himself away at tremendous speed.
... in which two superheroes battle with bad guys, embark on community art lessons, and a friendship forms along the way.
Battle Fatigue
Steve thought he was doing okay. Things weren't going great, but they were fine, manageable even, and then suddenly they weren't.
We Become New Yorkers (or: Five Times Steve Rogers Looked For Home, and One Time Home Found Him)
New York is a million cities at the same time. This is how Steve found his.
A beautiful day in the neighborhood
In which Steve and Peter learn that the best way to get through a bad situation is together. And to avoid collapsing buildings. And that concussions are terrible, terrible things.
Leviticus 25
"You want to save Bucky Barnes? You are going to have to put your own house in order first because he is going to need a rock to cling to. You are not ready to be that rock for him. You owe it to him -- and more importantly, you owe it to yourself -- to figure things out, figure out how you can be happy in this time and place, whether or not Barnes is with you."
Strike
Sometimes the road to recovery involves bowling. Conveniently, so does the one to the Grand Canyon.
Conversation in Wakanda
“I have been told that you had the privilege to share a training session with some of our Dora Milaje,” T’Challa says. “May I ask how it went?”
“Well,” the Captain huffs. “There’s no polite way to say it: I had my ass handed to me. Repeatedly.”
He sounds and looks utterly delighted.
Contact Light
Everyone thought computers would be the thing that really blew Steve's mind about the 21st century. They were wrong. When he finds out that he missed the moon landing, it's the start of an ongoing obsession with space that maybe involves Neil deGrasse Tyson, Twitter, and Star Trek marathons.
Twenty-Two
“This is Lucky,” Clint said when a dog got between him and Natasha. Lucky’s vest was bright, like desert mornings and night explosions.
“Does he help?” Natasha asked.
Clint pressed his hands flat on the counter behind him. “He saved my life.”
Natasha looked at Steve, her expression fierce. Steve resisted the urge to yank down his sleeves. Instead, he dug his nails into the puckered skin on his forearms.
AKA An AU in which Steve is a veteran just trying to survive (or not).
Gray
Peter doesn't expect Steve to show up at his house one night when he gets home from school. He also doesn't expect to have a long conversation with him, and choose to be on his side instead.
We're Happy, Free, Confused, and Lonely at the Same Time.
"Tony isn't sure, but he *thinks* Steve Rogers is going to try and argue with him about not being a kid, while wrapped up in a fluffy blanket and plaid pyjama pants watching a Disney movie. Tony really hopes that is the case. The Captain America voice looses all affect when wrapped up in that blanket and Tony can't wait to inform him as such." - The one where Tony realises that Captain America and Steve Rogers are not the same person, and Steve is so much younger then he thought.
This Isn't A Love Song, This Isn't A Fable
Steve's not OK with people's perception of Captain America, no matter what he says or how much he pretends otherwise. It's like no one in this time period realizes that there's more to him than a spangly outfit. And yes, he's including the Avengers in that. ... or, the one where everything's all right, until it's not.
it's safe here in our new world
Post TWS. In which Natasha and Steve go shopping, have Thursday night movie nights, and learn that Natasha loves to platonically kiss Steve. Which is good, because Steve loves being platonically kissed by Natasha.
Shadowboxing
Pairings: Matt Murdock & Steve Rogers
It doesn’t matter how many times you fall – what matters most is how many times you get back up. Steve Rogers knew this lesson far too well and it was one Matt Murdock had endured all his life. With both men at their lowest, could a chance friendship bring each of them to their feet again?
Everybody Eats When They Come to My House
Pairings: Steve Rogers & Natasha Romanov, Steve Rogers & Sam Wilson, James "Bucky" Barnes & Steve Rogers
“You’ll ruin your dinner,” Sam says, gesturing with Steve with his spatula.
i fear for the calendar; its days are numbered
Pairings: Steve Rogers & Natasha Romanov, Steve Rogers & Sam Wilson
Before she goes off the grid, Natasha gives Steve her phone number. He’s honored that he’s the only one to be trusted with it, but quickly learns that she spends most of her free time texting him Dad jokes.
Status Quo Ante
Pairings: James "Bucky" Barnes & Steve Rogers
A tale in which Sam suspects he should be used to this by now, for values of 'this' that involve certain folks he hangs out with and situations he finds himself in, Team Cap becomes Team Ex-Cap becomes TBD, and nobody but Clint really wants to know what happened to Scott Lang's GI Joes. (Sam Wilson from the final scene to the mid-credits scene.)
The Glass Parade
Pairings: Steve Rogers & Natasha Romanov, Clint Barton/Natasha Romanov
Steve thinks that he’s seen Natasha be at least three different people in the short time he’s known her, and he isn’t sure which one is real.
In which the most confusing part of the future is how much Steve has in common with Natasha, and the fact that she seems dead-set on being his friend.
Still Life
Steve Rogers and a very modern form of art therapy. (The one where Steve draws himself out of despair and into some notoriety when his cartoons hit the internet, but he's still not allowed to look at Tumblr without an okay from Pepper.)
Selective Service
The serum's given Steve a lot, but it hasn't taken anything away from him. Not even the things he never wanted in the first place.
I'm a Hustler, Baby
Steve Rogers has a talent for pool--and for making others believe he's terrible at it.
The Healing Properties of Felt-Tip Pens
Rapid healing has worked wonders on Steve Rogers' body, but occasionally it really screws with his head. In the aftermath of torture, Bruce Banner helps Steve to reconcile mind and body.
If I Die Before I Wake
It's his job, as their leader, to endure the sadistic focus of their captor, and that is the one thought that carries Steve through.
Even Gods Do
Captain America doesn't have a good relationship with sleep anymore. Also, he's not a toy.
Under My Skin
Written for a prompt on avengerkink: I want to see something where, for whatever reason, Steve's accelerated healing turns out to be a bad thing. Something where the faster healing is making things worse. I would prefer something other than the standard, super-healing allows for more torture without death. “He's lucky – to have the serum, to have you all.” Tony wasn't sure about that first part. When one faced death and destruction every day on the job, there were many advantages to having a healing factor...and a great many disadvantages as well.
A Glossary of the 21st Century
Pairings: pre-Steve Rogers/Natasha Romanov
Steve's sick of not understanding what's going on, and the team are not all that helpful, so he starts keeping an illustrated notebook for further research. With the help of wiki, google and Logan he starts to settle in and find his place in the twenty-first century.
Blanket Gift Policy
“You didn’t,” Bucky said, with no real hope of being contradicted. Clint shrugged helplessly and passed him the large, soft bundle wrapped in shiny purple foil.
“Sorry.” Tony covered his eyes with one hand.
“I’m getting a migraine.”
“So,” Bruce said wearily, “counting Clint, me, Bucky, Tony, and Sam, that brings it up to five.”
“Excuse you, mine’s not a blanket,” Sam said. “Mine’s a slanket. Big difference.”
Bucky resisted the urge to throw the whole heap of parcels at Sam’s head. “Because it has sleeves? It’s still a blanket, Wilson. They’re all blankets. Even Thor’s direct-from-Asgard raven gift delivery was a cloak, which just means it’s a blanket with a strap. We all got Steve a goddamn blanket.”
One Tin Soldier
Written for a prompt at avengerkink: Because really, under any other circumstances, why would they follow him when he's some guy who's younger than the rest of them (time as a Capsicle aside), who goes around wearing that spangly outfit, who's not even used to the modern world? Why Steve Rogers, rather than a Norse god or the CEO of Stark Industries or anyone else?
“Love is for children,” she'd said, but respect knew no such bounds. The five times the Avengers accepted Steve as their leader, and the one time they followed without question.
and if there's life we'll see it
Steve is instantly taken with this idea of having the picture of the person calling you flash on your screen when they ring your cell.
Secure Your Own Oxygen Mask (Before Assisting Others)
Steve keeps going, because they need him. Being Captain America - having the serum - is a responsibility and a privilege he takes seriously, and he won't waste it by sitting around resting in the middle of a crisis. But then the work is over, and the original victims of the crisis aren't the only ones needing looking after.
Way of the Eagle
Clint introduces Steve to kung-fu movies. Things escalate quickly.
Walking Wounded
In the aftermath of the battle against the Chitauri, Steve's doing just fine. Until he's not. Fortunately, Thor is a perfect mother-hen, Tony makes decent back-up, JARVIS is a genius, and Soap Operas are life-changing. (Or, Post-Shawarma Feels.)

Maneater (Pietro Maximoff x reader)
Summary: You’ve been called back to help the Avengers and you’re already quite familiar with their new recruits.
SERIES MASTERLIST | MCU MASTERLIST | GENERAL MASTERLIST
You swan into the room, sunglasses perched on the tip of your nose and red lips twitching into a smile as heads snap in your direction. Whispers carry across to you; even SHIELD agents love to gossip.
It’s good to see that your reputation precedes you.
You spare them no attention, unsure whether you’d see fear, disgust, or admiration in their eyes. Perhaps you were even afraid of what they thought of you. But you’d learnt too quickly not to care about other people’s opinions; it would only drag you down.
Your heels clack against the metal as you turn to face the doors of the elevator, inwardly relieved that you were the only one getting on. You raised a hand, wiggling your fingers at the eyes staring at you, watching them flush in embarrassment and turn away. Shiny steel cuts off any further enjoyment you might get from seeing them squirm under your gaze and you sigh, allowing your eyes to meet those of your reflection. You sure as hell looked good.
The elevator dings as it arrives, doors sliding open soundlessly and you roll your shoulders back. Time to face the beast.
The meeting room door has been left slightly ajar for you and you think about just slipping in and seeing how long it takes for them to notice you. But that’s a little too boring for your taste; they called you back, might as well make it hell. You tap at your phone, cocking your head as you hear the song start to play. There’s a muffled noise of confusion, and you take that as your cue.
Everybody look at me, me
I walk in the door, you start screaming
Tony rolls his eyes at you, stifling a smirk and you wink. He’s probably the only person in the room that you’ll be getting along with, considering your shared previous history with the team. Well, considering Barton is already clutching at his arrows and Rogers is close to frothing at the mouth, you weren’t exactly wrong.
“I heard you need my help.” You prop the sunglasses on your head, letting your eyes scan the room. Ooh, newbies. Or… not so newbies. “Wanda and Pietro Maximoff. Never thought I’d see you two again.”
Pietro grins, that easy smirk appearing on his face and you find it hard to hide your own. “Don’t pretend you didn’t miss us, printesa.”
You held a soft spot for the speedster, although you’d never let the others know. It had only been a year, trapped in that dingy HYDRA base in Sokovia to gather intel, but the two of you had gotten on like a house on fire. You knew each other in and out, in more ways than one.
You and his sister? Well, that was a very different story.
“I think that that year was long enough to put anyone off your company,” you drawl, lips twitching into a smile as he mocks offence. Wanda, on the other hand, is not so amused, and her death glare almost makes you shiver. Almost, because you’ve dealt with what she’s threatened before.
Maneater, make you work hard
Make you spend hard, make you want all of her love
“Rogers, Barton, Romanoff, Banner, Thor, good to see all of you again.” Each wince in turn as you say their name and you really have to fight a laugh at that. “Stark, I’d extend the same sentiment to you, but I saw you last week and really it should only be an annual thing.”
You omit the fact that you only saw him because he had FRIDAY hunt you down and then threatened to break into your apartment to let you in. Not only because it detracted from the whole I-want-to-be-here-so-I-can-ruin-your-lives vibe you had going on, but also because you were sure that SHIELD would be very interested in knowing how he found you before them.
Stark flips you off, sipping his coffee as he watches the others fidget. He’s loving every minute of this.
“It’s good to see you too,” Romanoff eventually grits out, the others following up with grunts of agreement. You’d think that for a super spy she’d be better at hiding her true feelings, but the death stare she sends you tells you everything.
You smile, this one genuine as you try to get rid of the giggles threatening to break free as they progressively look more and more uncomfortable. “Oh, who’s the red guy?”
“That’s Vision.” Rogers’ tone is bitter as he clenches his paperwork. The sheets are crumpled in his grip, surprising considering how spotless he usually likes things. Once, you handed in a report that, although creased, was completely legible and he had made you rewrite it. And threatened to spank you when you protested.
She's a maneater, make you buy cars
Make you cut cards, wish you never ever met her at all
The song is still playing in the background and you love the way the tension in the room seems to increase with every note. It’s one of your favourites, especially since an ex had told you it reminded him of you and hadn’t meant that as a compliment. You had taken it as one though.
Barton is the first to snap. “FRIDAY, stop the music.”
You pout, noting that despite his apparent hatred for you, Rogers’ eyes still zero in on your lips. Wow, you’d really done a number on the poor guy if he still wasn’t over you, or maybe you’d just been the first in a really long time so he couldn’t quite forget it yet. For all you know, he might’ve been a 100-year-old virgin before you came along; you hadn’t bothered checking.
“So, you already know two of our new recruits. Care to explain how?” Rogers can’t hide his curiosity, and you already know that your answer would not be what he was looking for.
“Classified.” The anger spreading across his body is indescribable. If you thought he was irate before, now is a whole new level. Is he shaking?
“She’s HYDRA,” Wanda announces to the room and you snigger.
“God, I’d be so brave swanning into a SHIELD institute if I were a HYDRA agent. No, fortunately for you, I simply met the Maximoff twins whilst undercover in a HYDRA facility.”
Stark raises an eyebrow, asking for more of an explanation, and you shake your head. Not now. You note the witch taking an interest in whatever friendship you seem to have with him, and you can practically see the cogs turning in her head. She must be thinking how perfect it would be if she could push you away from her brother and to the man she still hates, thus allowing her to destroy both of you. Sure, these thoughts could just be paranoia on your behalf, but it was always better to be prepared for something worse than what is coming.
“Anyway,” you slip into the seat Pietro has pulled out for you, “what do you need me for?”
His hand settles on your thigh and Wanda stiffens, hating how close you were to him. You rub your thumb against the back of his hand, fighting the urge to curl into him again. You weren’t in private yet.
“We need you to do what you’re best at. And we need your connections.” Rogers waves a hand, images lighting up on the wall behind him. Two faces pop up that you recognise; Louis and Anthony Lombardo. Leaders of the Maggia. You’d never had the misfortune of being introduced to them, but you suspect that is about to change. “We know you have an in into these circles.”
You nod. “I’ll talk to Manfredi, see if he’s had any recent dealings with the brothers. Stark or Rogers, I need you to come with me, he’ll be much more open to talking to you two than anyone else. Well, he won’t kill you on sight.”
“Why?” Rogers is surprised, that is evident in the sudden lack of tension in his body. You hope he isn’t taking it the wrong way, especially as Pietro’s hand slides further up your thigh. You swallow.
You place yours on top of Pietro’s, pinning it to your leg to ensure that he was remaining professional. “He greatly respected Peggy Carter and he and Howard go way back.”
“And you understand what you must do when you come in contact with the brothers?” Barton fiddles with the tip of his arrow; eyes narrowed on you.
“Yes. Seduce, get information, escape.” You’re so bored of repeating this mantra, feeling like you are back at SHIELD in front of Fury again. You had loved your job but you sure didn’t miss it.
Pietro’s hand drops off your leg and you wince, missing the warmth. He’s avoiding your gaze as you glance up at him, and his jaw ticks. Oh God.
“Excellent. Well, Y/L/N, inform us of when you, Rogers and Stark will be visiting Manfredi, and I think we can call it a day.” Romanoff kicks her legs off the table and gets to her feet. Murmurs of agreement fill the room, and you can’t deny your relief at escaping the tension.
As you follow the team out, you leave enough of a distance so that none of them would approach you for a conversation (although you doubt they would want to). You simply don’t have the energy to deal with them.
Hard wall is against your back in seconds as everything flashes around you. The world swims back into focus, your attention focused on the hand on your chin and the hard body pressed against your own. Heat pools at the base of your stomach, butterflies flitting gently.
“Was I a target to you?” Pietro bites out, fingers digging ever so slightly into your skin. His blue eyes are icy, but you can’t help but melt into his touch. You haven’t been this close to him in far too long and his soft pink lips are temptingly close.
You drag your gaze away, making eye contact and hoping he can see the sincerity. “Never.”
And just like that he lets go of any hesitation and kisses you, lips moulding to yours. It’s like the two of you click together, two puzzle pieces fitting perfectly together. And you can’t believe how much you’ve missed this.

FATWS One Shot #2 - The Beginning of a Family
Word Count: 1804
Warnings: Cursing, Mentions of Human Trafficking (once, it was a mission Reader did), Minor Character Injury
Setting/Characters: The first half-ish of The Avengers in 2012; Reader, Steve Rogers, Nick Fury, Natasha Romanoff, Tony Stark, Bruce Banner, Thor, Mentions of Loki, Phil Coulson, and Clint Barton, OC!Agent Anderson
A/N: Here’s One Shot Number 2! I was thinking of making it longer and adding the actual Battle of Manhattan, but I dunno if I’m gonna do that. I just wanted these to be One Shots of first meetings and other smaller events. I didn’t want to do scene-for-scene two parters. If you want me to, I can, I don’t mind doing it, I just wasn’t planning on it. I’ve kinda been slacking today, which is why I haven’t cranked out more than this one, but I’ll see if I can finish one more for tonight. Tomorrow’s another late night for me at work, BUT! Tomorrow night FATWS comes out! So I will be doing the next Episode! I also don’t have Friday off this week, so the Parts might bleed into Saturday, but they will come this weekend!
Reminder that this has nothing to do with FATWS the show, but I don’t have a title for my FATWS Series, which is what these are based off of, so this is what they’re called for now! If you have any ideas for names, feel free to send them in! I’m just too lazy to come up with something clever for the whole Series.
Thank you so much for reading! As always, not beta’d so please excuse any mistakes! Be kind to yourselves and others! Stay tuned and enjoy!

You were exhausted, coming back from an assignment that lasted a little over two months. It’d been your first one since you were assigned to help Steve adjust, and you were guessing they’d keep you on desk duty for a few months before sending you back out again. Which frustrated you to no end.
But then you got back your personal cell phone from a fellow agent and, seeing you had a few voicemails - which you never had - you flipped it on.
“Hi, Y/N.” Your lips turned up at the man you started growing close to over the past year. “I-I know you’re on a mission right now. I mean, you just left last week. Anyways, I just…I hope you’re doin’ okay. You probably won’t get this until later, but…still. I hope you’re safe. I, uh, I got that book. The one you were joking about me getting. The U.S. History for Dummies one. It goes farther back than I need to know, but I still read all of it. It helped. I wish you were here though. But I know you’re working. And that’s important. Um… I guess I’ll see you in a few months.”
The phone beeped before the next message played. “I took your advice. I got a sketchbook and some other stuff. There’s a ton of new supplies. I’m kinda excited to try them out. Maybe they’re not new but they’re more accessible now than they used to be. And I found a gym. In Brooklyn. It’s kinda run down - a hole in the wall type place - but they don’t do memberships and they don’t care how long you stay as long as you pay for your time. So that’s nice. I guess. Anyways…hi. I don’t think I said that earlier. It’s Steve, by the way. But you probably guessed that. Um…that’s all. I just wanted to let you know. Stay safe, honey. Abbyssinia.”
You listened to the next couple ones, all along the same lines. Steve telling you about his day; about the dog he was allowed to pet on his run or the different coffee he tried this morning at your previous suggestion. You snickered a little, shaking your head. You would never guessed that Hitler hitting, Nazi punching Captain America was so…soft. Cute.
His last voicemail was from earlier that morning, and it made her brow furrow. “Hey, honey. I, uh…God, I really wish you were here. I was told you’d be getting back last week, but then they said it might be another couple weeks because something happened? I hope nothing happened. Please be okay. I’ve really missed you. I know it’s only been a year, but…you’re the only familiar thing I have right now. I guess Fury was right to choose you since you were the first person I saw. There’s a, uh, problem. Fury’s got a mission for me. Some guy named Loki stole the Tesseract. Which was HYDRA’s secret weapon. That blue cube thing. I was just getting used to laptops and fast food and this…it’s just a lot. Overwhelming. You were always good at making things less intimidating. I’ve gotta go. Some SHIELD personnel are picking me up now. We’re going to…somewhere. I’m sure you would know, but they haven’t exactly told me. Hoping to see you soon, Y/N. Please be safe.”
You frowned at the information, looking up at one of your fellow agents, Anderson. “Hey.” He turned his head towards you from his conversation with the copilot. “Is something going on at HQ?”
“The Helicarrier.” Anderson corrected. “Fury just called it in. Something with the Tesseract. And some guy’s mind controlling people. He’s got Barton, apparently. The director is bringing a few people on board; Banner, Stark, Romanoff. Rogers, too, I heard. He wants you to be there ASAP, so we’re going there now.”
Letting out a sigh, you rubbed your eyes and nodded. “Alright. Let’s go see what’s going on.”
*************************
Fury met you as you walked off the jet, lugging your duffle bag over your shoulder. You were still in your clothes from the mission; a human trafficking ring in Guam. Dirty, torn up jeans along with a white tank top hugging your torso and a flannel, unbuttoned, over your shoulders. One of your sneakers had a hole in it, too, and you were walking with a slight limp from the dislocated kneecap you got a few days prior.
“Agent.” He nodded in greeting, passing you a file. “The others are waiting. We just brought in Loki.”
You chewed your cheek, narrowing your eyes as you scanned the information in the file. It had personal files of the others, but you didn’t need to look through those. You knew Natasha very well, considering she taught you half the things you know, along with Barton. You knew Stark - of course you did - especially after you helped set Natasha up to be his secretary a while back. Banner you were also knowledgeable about, seeing as you went undercover to find him when he first took off and had been part of the tracking team on him ever since. Thor you had learned about after his fiasco in New Mexico from Coulson. And, last but certainly not least, Steve Rogers, who you knew better than any file could explain.
“Walk me through this; Thor and Loki are the real Thor and Loki? Like, from Norse myths?”
“Apparently so. You know about the New Mexico incident with the two last year, don’t you?”
You nodded, pinching your lips together tightly. “Well, yeah, but I thought…I dunno. I guess it just didn’t click. So,” you tucked the file under your arm securely, raising an eyebrow at Fury. “We’re fighting a god? An actual god?”
“With an army of aliens.” He confirmed.
“Wonderful.” You huffed as the two of you turned a corner, making your way onto the bridge, just in time to hear Stark talking to Banner about him turning into the Hulk.
“Dr. Banner is only here to track the cube.” Fury butted in. You crossed your arms behind Fury, leaning on your good leg. “I was hoping you might join him. Before you do, this is-”
“Y/N! You’re back!”
You shot a grin to the blonde, who perked up upon seeing you. “Hi, Steve. Just in time, too, huh.” You nudged Natasha slightly. “Hey, Nat. Sorry about Clint.”
She shrugged. “I’m just glad you’re here to help.”
“I’m sorry.” You looked over to find Banner frowning contemplatively at you. “Do I know you?”
You opened your mouth to answer, but Fury beat you to it. “Formalities later. Y/L/N, we’ll bring you up to speed-”
“I’ll get there, sir. How are you boys planning on tracking down the Tesseract?” You questioned, nodding in the two geniuses’ direction.
“I’d start with that stick of his.” Steve suggested, turning to look at the duo as well. “It may be magical but it works an awful lot like a HYDRA weapon.”
“I don’t know about that, but it is powered by the Cube.” Fury stated. “And I’d like to know how Loki used it to turn two of the sharpest men I know into his personal flying monkeys.”
A tall, broad as hell blonde looked at Fury, confused. “Monkeys? I do not understand-”
“I do!” Steve jumped in, pointing at Thor, before leaning back in his seat at the silence that came after his exclamation. “I-I understood that reference.”
You chuckled and shook your head, winking at Steve when he smiled bashfully at you. As the two scientists - was Stark a scientist? - started heading out, Steve hopped up, padding over to you.
“You’re back early.”
“Late, technically.” You shrugged, letting him pull you in for a hug, your hand rubbing his back. “I got your calls.”
He pulled away, his ears turning red. “Oh, yeah. I, uhm-”
You sniggered. “It’s fine, Steve. You can call me whenever you need to. I’m just sorry I couldn’t answer you sooner.”
“You were working.” He shrugged half heartedly. “Did it go okay? Are you okay?”
“Yes, Steven. I’m fine.” You rolled your eyes just as a yawn threatened to escape your lips. “If not a little tired.” You tapped on the star against his chest. “Nice suit, by the way.”
“Ha ha.” He grinned, eyeing your own clothing. “You’re matching me.” He tugged on the red, white, and blue flannel hanging from your arms. “You also look like shit.”
You snorted. “Wow. What a gentleman. Let’s get this whole Loki situation over with so I can go to bed, yeah?”
He chuckled a little with a nod. “Sounds like a plan, honey.” The two of you started out of the bridge. “You should shower first, though.”
“You’re a bully, you know that?”
“I’m just sayin’!”
“I’m just sayin’!” You mocked with a huff. “Leave me be, Rogers.”
His laughter was cut short, making you look over at him curiously, only to find his slitted eyes studying your movements. “Why are you limping?”
“Relax, Captain. I just dislocated my knee. It’s fine. Shit happens on missions, you know that.”
“Is that why you came back late?”
Shaking your head, you lead him to one of the private rooms the Helicarrier had so you could shower and change. “No. I just needed a little more time. That’s all. Now let’s focus on the problem at hand. We can talk more later.”
He hesitated, leaning against the doorway and watching you set your bag on the small cot. “Okay. As long as you’re alright.”
Your heart jumped a bit at the concern laced in his tone, the apprehension in those blue eyes - which you found out had some green in them - making your breath hitch slightly. “I am.” You spoke softly with a firm nod of your head, trying to assure him and his worries. “I promise.”
“I’m gonna go check on Banner and Stark, then. Come find me when you’re done.”
You cleared your throat to recover yourself, throwing him a cheeky grin. “Aye, aye, Captain.”
He rolled his eyes with a smile, before turning and walking out, leaving you alone and confused.
What was that? You’d never had that reaction to anything. Your heart doesn’t race whenever someone walks in the room. Not like it did with him. What the hell did that even mean?
You shook your head, clearing your throats. You didn’t have time to dwell on that now. You doubted it was anything more than a fluke. You were just tired and seeing someone familiar, who was genuinely excited to see you was like a breath of fresh air after your operation. That’s all. Yeah.
With that decided, you headed to the shower, head spinning with new thoughts of this problem with the God of Mischief and that stupid blue cube.

Firefly’s Masterlist // Star Spangled Bingo 2021
Fury entered the conference room at Stark Tower with his usually authoritative, no bullshit attitude and the black leather jacket flowing behind him. The Avengers immediately halted their actions; Natasha and Clint gave each other a knowing side-eye, Bucky and Steve placed down their coffees while Wanda, Vision and Bruce stopped their conversation, mid-flow, to turn their attentions to the director.
“Where’s Stark?” Fury looked around for the billionaire, but he was nowhere to be seen.
A voice came through the speakers, “I’m here. Just not here, here.”
Fury turned to the camera in the corner, “Stark, I suggest you get in here now.”
“No can do boss, I’m a little tied up doing good for the community at the moment.” The Iron Man suit’s HUD display appeared in the centre of the room above the table with Stark’s signature smirk, “I’m listening.”
The holographic display changed with the flick of Fury’s hand; Stark’s face appearing in the top right corner while the other information appeared larger. A selection of blueprints for a fortified base, images of various Hydra agents and satellite footage of the surrounding area. Steve flicked through the same information on the tablet in his lap while the rest of the team continued to look at display or Fury for further instruction.
“As you can see, we have collected a lot of information about this particular base. The only problem is that we are struggling to infiltrate it. Our agents have explored every possible way to get inside but it’s becoming more obvious that whatever is happening inside that warehouse is something for the Avengers to deal with.” Fury continued as he walked around the room, hands behind his back.
“What attempts have been made?” Steve asked, the stern tone of Captain America coming through.
The Avengers watched the footage that enlarged in front of Nick Fury; a group of agents moving as one through the dense snow-covered forest until they were repelled back twenty feet.
“That’s the issue. We’ve tried to go through it, over it and under it. We can’t get in so I need the best on this,” Fury pointed at the repeated clip of the soldiers being hit with the force field, “Romanoff, Barton; get reading up on those reports, see if you can find anything that stands out. Maximoff and Vision, start looking into what that force field is and whether you remember it from your Strucker days. Stark, I need you back here for the final briefing by 1800 hours.”
The four Avengers nodded at the director and left the room. Stark disconnected and the hologram disappeared. Bucky remained silent, watching Fury’s every move while Steve reclined in the chair, spinning it towards the director.
“And what about us Sir?” Steve asked, his body tense and irritation not going unnoticed by the remaining attendees.
“I said I needed my best.” Fury pressed his hands against the back of a vacant seat, looking straight to Bucky. “There’s only one person that can help us with this one.”
Bucky’s eyes darkened and he barked in response, “No!”
“He’s right, Buck.” Steve turned to him with a small smile, “we’re going to need all the help we can get. Who knows what’s going on down there?”
“You must be out of your goddamn mind.” Bucky pushed the chair back forcefully and walked to the door, yanking it open. He paused looking back at Steve and Fury, “and I guess, I’m going to be the one to break the news, aren’t I?”
The bell above the door chimed as Bucky entered the florist; he was hit with a multitude of colours and smells that were incredible but the one thing that stood out most to him was the woman tucked between sunflowers and dahlias with an older gentleman. His heart raced at Y/N’s beaming smile as she gathered up the flowers and rang up the cost on the register.
Bucky preoccupied himself with the assortment of blooms and the trinkets scattered around the small shop while she continued to chat with the gentleman, he tried not to listen in to the conversation, but he had to gauge her mood before he approached her, not that she didn’t already know he was there.
“Mr Lee, you cannot make those eyes at me when you’re buying flowers for your wife!” Y/N laughed, “send her my best and that I’ll see her on Sunday for the bake sale.”
“You’ll realise that I’m the one for you sooner or later.” The man waved and passed Bucky, leaving the shop with another jingle of the bell.
Bucky had watched the man leave as he thought of how impressed he was with the way Y/N had settled into this town after a few months. He’d always been impressed with the woman that had managed to retire and find her feet so seamlessly.
Without turning around, Bucky knew that she was now behind him and her hands would be placed on her hips, a sideways pout on her lips as she waited for him to pay her attention.
“Seeing as we only saw each other on Thursday, Buck, and if someone had died, you’d have called, what could you possibly need on this wonderful Sunday afternoon? Did you miss me that much?” She giggled but then she saw the seriousness in his face once he’d turned around. “Shop closes in an hour; I’ll be up in a bit.”
Bucky felt guilty for dimming the sparkle in Y/N’s eyes. He wasn’t sure what was going to happen next, she was silent with a blank expression as she unlocked the door leading to her apartment. He’d never experienced the receiving end of the anger that was smothering the atmosphere. Of course, he’d witnessed it aimed at others but never at this level towards himself.
Y/N kicked off her trainers and untied her apron, slamming it down on the kitchen table. Her fingers clenched around the fabric, and her jaw ticked before she turned to Bucky. He leaned against the door frame and explained how she needed to come out of retirement for a mission, giving her the details about the force field that the SHIELD agents were unable to penetrate.
Bucky waited for Y/N to speak, he learnt long ago that he had to leave her to process whatever it was that was racing through her mind. Y/N had her back to him, one hand gripping the counter and the other holding tightly onto the knife that she’d retrieved to chop vegetables. She turned around and opened her mouth, only for no words to come out and for her to continue preparing dinner.
The pain and fear that flicked across her features were motivation enough for Bucky to get closer, he strode over and placed his hands on her hips. He felt the tension drop from her body at his touch, a sense of pride swelled as she leant her back into his chest.
“It’s been 113 days since I left. You can’t come here and ask this of me.” Y/N’s voice cracked, and her eyes glossed over as she waved the knife around in front of her, the peppers no longer being diced.
Bucky’s fingers held her wrist to stop the kitchen utensil from turning into a weapon and rest his chin on her shoulder, “I know doll, but you know why I was sent and not Steve or Fury himself.”
“Yeah, ‘cos they know y’all sweet talk me ‘round.” She scoffed and dropped the knife down with a clatter, turning in his arms to look at him. Her arms wrapped around his neck and fingers threaded through the loose strands while a smirk crept up her face, “and they knew that I wouldn’t castrate you either.”
Bucky chuckled and nudged his nose against hers before their lips lightly brushed one another, a soft peck and Y/N unravelled and continued with prepping the food. Stirring the partly prepared sauce heating on the stove, Bucky watched her form soften but he knew that it would be short-lived.
“Where’s the fight?” She whispered, as if she already knew but didn’t want to believe it.
“Poland.” He slipped back and took a seat at the kitchen table, knowing that she would turn around in an instant with another burst of anger.
And as if on cue, Y/N threw a tomato at the wall to her left, the juices staining the neutral paint as it slid down. She whirled around and pointed the wooden spoon at him, “I can’t believe those jerks! They don’t even have the balls to talk to me themselves and instead, they send my lovely, innocent and ridiculously handsome boyfriend to woo me into returning to the field.”
“I wouldn’t necessarily call myself innocent.” Bucky tried to lighten the mood, but it had the opposite effect.
“You know exactly what I mean,” Y/N paced the length of the kitchen in a few steps before spinning around and walking back again. Defeated with the inevitable of visiting the country she grew up in, she collapsed on Bucky’s lap. “What about my shop? Do they not realise that I have a business to run? I’m not an Avenger, I'm just an ordinary civilian.”
“You’re everything but ordinary.” His arms pulled Y/N closer to him, her head burrowing under his chin, “It’s okay sweetheart, Diane can run the place in your absence, she knows what she’s doing. We’ll be gone a week at most. I made sure to get a month of vacation off afterwards so we can do this place up.”
Y/N’s head snapped up, bashing Bucky’s chin making him bite the inside of his cheek. The blood filled his mouth, but he swallowed it down and cupped her face at the sight of the unshed tears in her eyes.
“Really? Do you mean that? Because being with you for one night every two weeks is horrible.” Her bottom lip poked out and Bucky wobbled it with his index finger.
“Yes, of course, doll.” He smiled and pressed a light kiss to her forehead.
“Hold up!” Y/N pulled away from him, her hands pressed firmly into his chest, “you’re sweet talkin’ me, aren’t you?”
“Nothing gets past you.” Bucky’s head fell back as the laughter rumbled through his chest and Y/N stood up. He swatted her butt cheek, “get a move on with dinner, we have to leave in an hour.”
“James Buchanan Barnes!” She spun around, a feigned look of shock and her hand clutched to her chest. Her agape mouth dropped into a smirk as she leant forward, rubbing her nose against his. “If you’re still into this sweet talkin’ thing…”
Y/N spun on her heel and with a sway of her hips, wandered to the door. She looked back over her shoulder, “well, are you coming or what?”
Bucky was on his feet in seconds, chasing her down the corridor. Giggles filled the apartment as he wrapped his arms around her waist and lifted her into the air. He fell backwards onto the bed, dropping her to his side gracefully.
Both looked at the other, full of smiles and breathless from the short jog. The contrast of cold metal against Y/N’s warm cheek sent a shiver down her spine, and the way Bucky focused on her lips filled her core with want. The laughter died down and desire took over, as their faces inched closer and until they were ghosting over each other’s lips.
“Thought I had to sweet talk you, doll?” Bucky mumbled against Y/N’s parted mouth; his beard scratched deliciously against her.
In retaliation, she pushed on top of him, straddling his waist and feeling the rough texture of the tactical gear hidden beneath the hoodie, “well, what can I see, could never resist a man in Kevlar.”
Y/N ducked down and pressed a light peck to Bucky’s lips. He immediately took control, his hand holding the back of her head and deepening the kiss while his hardening groin rubbed against her clothed sex.
All thoughts of the mission and Poland disappeared with each item of clothing they discarded. Their minds focused on bringing the other to the edge of ecstasy with every kiss, lick, and stroke. Their bodies hummed with desire and need, entangled together above the sheets.
Bucky pinned Y/N to the bed, holding her hands above her head in his grip while he peppered kisses down her neck, and across her now beautifully exposed body. His hold loosened as he neared her sensitive parts, the mewling sounds above him sent repeated shocks of pleasure to his already stiff member.
Y/N couldn’t handle the wait any longer, her hips tilting up towards in demand of his mouth. It was oh so close but still far away from her bundle of nerves, “please Bucky, I need you.”
Not one to disappoint or let his girl beg for too long, Bucky teased her drenched cunt with his fingertips. She whimpered in response, pride swelled in his chest and pushed him to lick a stripe through her lips, tongue swirling over her clit.
“Fuck” Y/N stuttered out; one hand tugged on his locks while the other palmed her breasts.
Bucky moaned, the vibrations pushing Y/N closer to her orgasm. He continued to eat her cunt with ferocity. Bucky always marvelled at how he’d almost cum from the sounds of her moans and the taste of her pleasure. His cock ached as he rubbed the precum across his tip and gripped his shaft to hold off his orgasm until he felt the friction of her tight cunt, until he was deep inside her.
Kisses lightly pressed along her thighs and her stomach; Bucky didn’t miss a single spot, blemish or scar on her body. Her body glowed in the post-orgasmic haze, her fingers softly stroking through his locks as he hovered above her.
Bucky faltered when he saw her eyes glistened with unshed tears and the tremble of her lip, “Doll, what’s wrong? Did I hurt you?”
“Oh, sweet man,” Y/N cupped his cheek, his head resting into her palm, “of course not. I’m just scared of going back. Of losing myself to my past. Of losing you.”
Bucky let go of the breath he held, a small piece of him was glad that he hadn’t done anything to hurt the precious person lying beneath him but the rest of him filled with the need to pull her into his arms and tell her everything would be okay. And that is what he did.
He rolled to her side, gathered her up in his hold and pressed soft kisses to the top of her head, “I can’t promise that it won’t be hard. Going back there, to those monsters. But I can promise you that you won’t lose me. I’ll be with you every step of the way, like you have been there for me.”
Y/N clung to Bucky’s waist; her legs entwined with his while she let the tears flow. Her fear subsided with each drop, the caress of Bucky’s fingers along her arm and the sweet nothings he whispered into her ear.
Y/N packed her bag while Bucky returned to the kitchen to fix her something to eat. Even though he had developed incredible hearing, he couldn’t make out the Ukrainian words that she mumbled in between ‘Steve’ and ‘Fury’ or the slams of the bedroom furniture. But what he did know was that they weren’t going to be any terms of endearment to her former superiors.
Minutes later, Y/N had returned with an outfit change and dropped the holdall to her feet. Bucky’s heart thumped against his chest and a blush heated his cheeks as she winked at him. Even after all this time, seeing her in the black uniform always sent his heart racing and Y/N knew exactly how he felt about the uniform.
They ate the meal in silence as Y/N scanned the details on the tablet, both now brought up to speed with the latest developments from Natasha’s intel; alien technology being sold across the black market. What’s new. Bucky rolled his eyes at the information, there was always some bad guy with a bunch of weaponry, that they didn’t understand, trying to use it for evil.
Once again, Y/N disappeared into other parts of the apartment while Bucky loaded his black truck with her holdall and waited for her arrival in the cab. She hopped into the passenger seat and appeared calm, but he couldn’t help but wonder if he should prepare to duck for cover when they arrived at the briefing room.
Luckily for Bucky, Natasha and Clint pulled him aside to go over their new findings. Not so lucky for Steve and Fury, who would have to deal with the wrath of the retired Avenger.

Chapter 2: Not the new kitchen help
You can now call a cozy apartment with two rooms and a nice bathroom your own. You have stored your things in the bedroom and are now looking around the tower. The living rooms seem to be spread over several levels. Either there are really a lot of people living here or they tried to keep a little space to avoid stepping on each other's toes all the time. Living and working together can be quite a challenge for some people. The floors above consist - judging by the signs - of labs and various development rooms. Most of it is probably technical stuff, but some of the doors also have concerning warnings, and you don't want to spend your first day trying to figure out if they're genuine.
You find the outdoor platform with the big A and see, then it’s connected to some sort of party or lounge room. There are several couch sets and a rather nicely equipped bar. Overall, everything is very spacious and you're sure you can walk around here for a few days without anyone noticing your presence. At least once, you think you've lost your bearings for a moment, but then you find your way back to the elevators. On the other hand, there was surprisingly little going on up here.
All floors below the living area seem to be offices, at least the names of the elevator buttons suggest that. You don't feel like visiting them right now, because the exploration tour has left you pretty hungry. The last meal was also your breakfast this morning and now it's almost afternoon. So you look for the room that interests you the most anyway. And you find it near the lounge: a wonderfully large kitchen with fantastic equipment. You explore it with interest and notice that it‘s visibly little used. Among the people and other beings here, there seems to be no one enjoying cooking. Saving the world probably takes up enough of their time. As you open the refrigerator, a voice suddenly comes from somewhere, startling you briefly at first. "Good afternoon, Miss Barton. If you have any requests regarding the food or ingredients, please let me know." You look around, but can't see anyone. "My name is JARVIS," the voice explains. "I am an A.I. and I am available to assist you." "Uh-huh...hello," you merely reply, processing this information. Jarvis, meanwhile, continues talking. "Welcome to the Tower. The other Avenger members have been notified of your arrival in a memo." "Okay, thanks." It‘s a bit weird talking to a room, but apparently modern technology has already reached the next level here. Hearing nothing more, you start inspecting the contents of the refrigerator. The result is quite sobering. "It's all just fast foods," you grumble. "Would you like to suggest changes in the selection?", Jarvis asks. "Yes! Please and thank you." "You're welcome to make a shopping list, and I'll have everything ordered." Why not? Regardless of whether a computer can really do it, you nod. "Okay." "A personal tablet will be calibrated for you. You can pick it up from Mr. Banner."
A few minutes later you find yourself in the labs on the upper floors. The sterile lit hallway reminds you much more of Shield than the lower floors. You turn a corner and have to go down some stairs that lead you into a large room. Here, tables are jumbled with various types of modern computers and equipment. Further back is a robotic arm soldering a hard drive all by itself with a quiet whir. It’s a dream for any technology enthusiast. From one corner, you hear typing and beeping, followed by quiet murmurs. That's where you turn, looking at the whiteboards on the wall along the way, where complicated calculations and drawings could be seen. Then suddenly, right in front of you, a hologram appears in the air and you stop, rooted to the spot. "Oops!" "Oh, sorry." A head pops up from behind a nearby screen and you recognize Bruce Banner. His face is always shown on the news whenever there's been a shot of Hulk. But now you're more interested in the hologram as you take a closer look. It shows a nebulous, pulsating entity. "What is that?" you ask the scientist. "We got some cosmic stones. This was in one of them." "It's moving. Is it alive?" "Living would be an exaggeration, but there is energy present. My name is Dr. Banner, by the way." He reduzes the size the hologram so it's out of your way. "Barton, nice to meet you." "Clint's sister, I read the file. He never mentioned you though." "I didn't want any attention, but didn't quite work out, I guess." Bruce smiles sympathetically and reaches for a cup of tea, which, judging by his expression after the first sip, seems to be cold. You ask for the tablet you came for, and Bruce looks around searchingly. There are a few of them in the room, but the display of one lights up, drawing your attention. You see your name displayed and simply conclude that it's the right one. Briefly you say thank and goodbye, before you go back to your room and start making a shopping list. Please fresh ingredients and please deliver today.
Afterwards, you browse around a bit. The tablet, like every electronic device in the house, seems connected to the main computer and to Jarvis. You pull up a few files on your new housemates and read them curiously. At least the parts that are publicly available. You also take the opportunity to look for your own name. Because even though you know that your records were officially destroyed when you left, you know that no data is ever really gone. So you're almost surprised when you find only a few sentences about yourself and not even a photo. Mainly it was about your and Clint's entry into Shield at a young age as orphans. You had received a pretty good education, which may have also kept you from going off the rails. Besides hand-to-hand combat and firearms training, your specialty was handling knives, while your brother took up bows and arrows. For foreign missions, you had also had to learn various languages and had chosen the widely spoken Spanish and Russian. But you didn't work for Shield for a long time, instead opting out of your career early on. It just wasn't the life you wanted to lead. So you changed cities and mingled with the civilian population. And before you knew it, your talent with a knife led you into a traditional apprenticeship as a chef. You enjoyed this work more than having to fight to death, and you even expanded your knowledge and skills during a year abroad in France. But there is very little of all this in your records.
You set the tablet aside and stretch out on your new bed. Normally, you would be in full swing at work right now. A glance at the clock reveals that it's already early evening. Rush hour in most of the restaurants. But here? Without a task or a plan, there's not much you can do. On the other hand, a little vacation wouldn't hurt you.
At some point, the tablet gave a soft ping and when you checked, it was a notification that the refrigerator and all the pantries had been restocked. By now you are very hungry and you heard nothing about a joint dinner time, so you decide to cook yourself something. Out of sheer habit and to avoid getting your clothes dirty, you put on a chef's jacket and apron you brought from home and go into the kitchen. There's a radio in one corner that you turn on. Jarvis really did get everything you had asked for. It was a dream come true. Now in a much better mood, you grab a pan and get to work. From the freezer, you pull out a fish, which you gut and fill with fresh herbs. It goes into the pan first. Then it's the turn of the potatoes, which are peeled, boiled and rolled in rosemary.
You're so absorbed in your work - you've just poked a knife into the boiling potatoes to see if they're already done - that you don't notice a visitor, who had entered the kitchen at some point, until he makes himself known. "I'll have the course menu and a white wine to go with it." Somewhat confused, you look up as you hear the man's voice and see Tony Stark standing at the sideboard across from you. He notices your look and returns it with a smile. "I didn't realize we hired a new kitchen help." You frown and take a sharpening rod in your free hand to sharpen your knife while not taking your eyes off Tony. "Oh, I'm not a new kitchen help," you clarify. "I'm a chef." "Excuse me. Then would the chef please serve me the course menu and a white wine?" The trillionaire indicates a polite bow, but you merely turn to the stove and take the potatoes off it. You then retrieve a plate from the cupboard. "Jarvis", you direct your voice to the computer, hoping it’s still listening. "Would you please explain to Mr. Stark that I'm not here to cook for him and that he'll have to order his course menu, if he really wants one, from the Chinese place next door?" "Mr. Stark, I'm supposed to-." "I heard her, Jarvis," Tony interrupts the A.I., eyeing you a little more closely now. "That does make me wonder what you're doing here, Miss...? Aside from the fact that there's no Chinese working next door." "Then you should make one move in there," you replay amused. As you do, you wipe your fingers on the cloth you've hung on the apron at your hip and prep your dish. Just as Tony is about to say something clever, the door opens and another person walks in. You recognize Thor at first glance. "What's that delicious smell in the air?", he asks, looking around curiously. You smile and point to the stove. "I was just cooking. There's still some left for you to take." With that, you want to go to your room, but Tony stops you. "Oh, he gets something, but I don't?", he complains. You shrug your shoulders. "He didn't want a whole menu." With that, you disappear through the door and go back to your living quarters. There you quickly change into something comfy and make yourself comfortable on the couch, where you watch an episode of your favorite show while you eat. A little company would be nice, but you don't feel like meeting more people you don't know yet. And you don't feel like searching for Natasha in this huge complex. So you’re fine with being by your own right own.
After dinner, you continue watching the show, but eventually you realize you're getting tired. It really had been an eventful and long day. So you quickly take your dirty dishes back to the kitchen. But just as you're closing the dishwasher, Tony comes back in and leans against the frame with his arms crossed. "So… you‘re a Barton." Apparently he had spent a few minutes of his precious time gathering information about you and then waited for you to reappear. "Surprised there's another one?" you ask with a smirk. He takes that as a sign that you're not holding a grudge against him. He pushes himself off the door frame and comes closer, now leaning his arms on the kitchen island. "Nothing about Legolas surprises me anymore. Met his wife and kids the other day. Nice family. Are you guys a whole circus?" "Not anymore." You shrug. "So, what’s your deal?", he wants to know. "You left Shield in your early twenties. What's normal life like out there? No one waiting for you to come home?" You turn on the dishwasher and grab a water bottle from the supply. "Life is nice. Often stressful, but I have to worry a lot less about getting killed." You don't answer Tony's last question. It's really none of his business. "That is when you're not being yanked out of that life and brought into the house of superheroes", you add. "You'll get used to it. Both that we're super and that we're heroes. I promise." You laugh at his words. Tony seems to be a real egocentric, but also a humorous person. "Well, let's see", you reply, "Now if the welcome speech is over, I'd like to go to bed." "I won't keep anyone away from their beauty sleep. Good night." You wish him the same, then head back to your room, where you make yourself comfortable on the large bed. The strange surroundings were unfamiliar, but not you don't feel uncomfortable and so you soon fall asleep.

Unwanted Recruitment (SHIELD X Reader) *PLATONIC
Characters: SHIELD X Reader
Universe: Marvel, Avengers
Warnings: Mention of killing
Request: Shield x reader: The reader after 13 years as an assassin retires and decides to start a new life. They take all of the money they have earned ($96 million) However, shield has them as #1 wanted for years. After arriving at the train station the r is arrested by Clint. During the interrogation fury talks about how all the money (might) be taken away. Fury tells the r they have to work for them to get the money back
It had been a long time since you had felt relaxed and at peace. In fact, you couldn’t actually remember the last time you had felt like this. Usually when you were acting relaxed, you were actually working, and were in fact making sure your cover wasn’t being blown, and that things were going to plan. This time however, your only concern was catching your train, and it was the next one to pull in. You had your ticket, your baggage, and everything else you needed to start a new life.
This day was long awaited. The day you knew you could comfortably retire, and go live a normal life. You’d had an eye on a house in a small town away from all your previous business, where no one would know your face or name, no one will bother you, and you could pretend that the past 10 or so years had never happened.
The announcement came over the speaker for people to be careful as the train was approaching, and you waited patiently, waiting for the train to arrive. So close. As soon as you were on the train and it started pulling away, you’d be free. No more jobs. No more killing. No more blood. You saw the train coming in, starting to slow as it came into the station.
A hand rested on your shoulder, keeping you in place as the train came to a stop right in front of you. All calmness and peace came to a halt. You already had a good idea on whose hand it was. There’d been many attempts in the past to find out who you were- you were an assassin after all, and a good one at that, and anyone who saw your face would simply not live to give details. One of the main groups who had been trying to identify you was SHIELD, and they’d been hot on your tail. “Excuse me, can you come with me?” The man holding you asked, though you knew the formality was purely because you were in public and didn’t want to cause panic.
“...I don’t have a choice, do I?” You asked with a sigh, looking down at the ticket in your hands. “Please… please just let me go.”
“Sorry. I can’t do that.” He said, taking your arms and handcuffing you. All those plans- the house, the little town, the boring job with boring friends and a boring life- all gone.
You remained totally silent as the man- who you identified as Hawkeye as soon as you turned around- walked you out the train station to an armored car waiting, you being placed in the back, and driven away from your train to freedom. You could only watch through the barred windows as the vehicle drove you out the city and to the well known SHIELD Headquarters. As the vehicle stopped, you saw Barton come over, opening the door beside you, and you looked over at him. “Are you gonna behave? If not we’ll have to upgrade those handcuffs.” He warned as he grabbed your arm, pulling you out of the car. You didn’t fight back, letting him pull you into the building, also being escorted by other agents, until you reached a meeting room, where you saw two people waiting inside- a woman with her brown hair tied up, and a rather intimidating man with an eye patch, whose name you knew- Nick Fury.
“Thank you for coming without a fight, Y/N. Please take a seat.” He requested, which you did silently, facing him and the woman next to him. “We’ve been trying to track you down for a while now. I’m surprised you came here without resistance.”
“...I’m done.” You finally spoke.
“Pardon?” Fury asked.
“I’ve retired. I was getting on that train to retire from being an assassin.” You stated flatly. You kept your eyes on the table. You were angry. Of course you were angry, but again you understood that you’d have to face time behind bars- you were a murderer, whether paid or not.
“That would explain all the money that you had on you.” Barton commented. You sighed. They’d confiscated your belongings- meaning they had all your money. Was that legal? We weren’t sure, but since you were in custody and probably going to prison, it probably was. “How much is it, exactly?”
“3 million.” You answered. “I’ve been saving nearly ¾ of each of my payments from my job from the very beginning.”
“So this was always the plan? Work until you could retire completely?” Fury asked. You didn’t need to answer that- you’d technically already had. You simply looked up at him, annoyed. “Sorry to tell you Y/N, but we’re going to be holding onto that money for a while. However, that money will still be in your name.”
“Let me guess, I’m going to prison?”
“We’re not the police.” Fury reminded you. “Half of the Avengers team have a bad history, working for the wrong people and doing horrible things, including killing. We’ve had Barton and Romanoff examine your technique and possible motives and morality, and they think that you’d show compassion still, and can be rehabilitated.” He commented. You looked over at Barton, who gave you one of those grins you’d give to strangers in the street as you passed them. You didn’t like where this is going. “It’s because of this, that while you’ll be under house arrest, you’re going to become an Agent of SHIELD. You’ll be paid for your work, and the money won’t be from the money you’ve already collected, and after you’ve saved the same amount of people you’ve killed, you’ll be given your money back, and then if you want to, you can get on that train and you can go live a normal life.”
“You’re forcing me to be a hero?” You asked, receiving a nod in response. You sighed, thinking. How many people had you killed?... You killed on average one a week, there’s 52 weeks in a year… then you did it for 10 years… That’s a lot of people. At first it seemed impossible- another 10 years worth of work at least? But then you thought again. Saving people. You’d probably not be saving one person per mission, possibly groups of people, missions might be closer together, and the definition of saving someone gave you a lot of space. Hostage situations, escorting people to safety, defending… In your mind, it nearly halved the time at least. 5 years, and saving people is a lot less painful than killing. “Alright. Is there a contract we’re gonna sign to make sure we both stick to the deal and you don’t hold me against my will?” You asked. The woman stepped forward, sliding some sheets of paper over to you, and you started to read it to make sure everything matched what had been discussed.
“After you’ve reached your quota, per say, if you want to stick around then that’s fine, or you could become part time, or just on call for emergencies. You’ve got incredible skills, Y/N, it would be a shame for them to be wasted.” Barton spoke to you. You glanced at him as you finished reading the contract, seeing Barton offering you a pen, which you took, and you signed.
“I’ll think about it.”
Hope you like it! If you have any questions, please send them in!

My loyalty can be bought - Chapter 7
Author’s note: The journey is almost over. Maybe two more chapters. Sometimes I want to write thousands of words but that would probably bore you. Thanks to everyone who reads my stories. It means the world to me.
Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Chapter 4 Chapter 5 Chapter 6
„When was this picture taken?“ Bucky, Sam and Zemo, the golden trio, stand in Sharon Carter’s apartment looking at all her illegal paintings. But a certain framed picture got Bucky’s attention. On this picture was Sharon and you. A cigarette was between your fingers and a bottle of Vodka was in the other hand. Your wedding ring wasn’t on your left ring-finger anymore. Instead you wore it as a necklace. You looked different. Your hair was darker than usual and you wore more make-up. If Bucky hadn’t memorize every feature of your body he wouldn’t have recognize you.
„Three years ago… I think… During that time (y/f/n) and I were pretty close but now not anymore. I think that’s a side effect when you are the vice-director of SHIELD. She doesn’t trust me anymore.“
Bucky didn’t know what shocked him most. You being vice-president of SHIELD or you not trusting Sharon anymore. After all, you and Sharon were really good friends.
„She said my loyalty can be bought and that’s not a good character trait.“ Sharon continues talking as she pours herself a glas of whiskey.
Bucky jumps to his feet and pushes Sharon against the wall who drops the glas. „Bucky!“, Sam screams and stands right behind Bucky. „What the hell are you doing?“
„And did you sell your loyalty to the one who kidnapped (y/f/n)? Did you?“, Bucky shouts at her.
He knew it. Right from the beginning when they met Sharon after all those years. Something was off. She’s not innocent
Sharon doesn’t look at Bucky but instead at her mobile phone. Sam follows her gaze, unlocks the phone and finds a voice message of you just a day before the abduction:
„Tell your little friends to stop following me. I don’t like being followed, Sharon. I know the identity of the power broker and I also know that SHIELD is infiltrated by HYDRA again. I’m neither blind nor naive. Why are you working with her, Sharon? I thought you hated Valentina. Why are you cooperating with her? I’m warning you. Leave them alone. Leave my family alone.“
The call ends. Your voice still hard and strong, echoing through Bucky’s mind.
„Where the hell is she? If you want to live you better tell me.“
„She knew how this would end. (Y/f/n) played with fire and got burnt. You really think she’s still the same quirky and naive teenager who just lived for the love of a man. Wake up, Bucky. How do you think she got the job at SHIELD? You still trust her even thought she kept all the secrets.“ Sharon tries to free herself but Bucky’s grip is too strong. „Did she tell you that the first year of being a mother she wasn’t even with her child because of her depressions? She gave the kid to Tony and Pepper. Did you know that? Did she tell you how close she was with Clint Barton? Did she tell you about the huge argument she had with Steve and that they weren’t on speaking terms for 3 years? Did she tell you that she lived in Madripoor for months? And did she tell you that she was with Barton on their criminal missions? No, I bet not. She’s still acting like this weak woman around you but believe me. She’s not innocent.“ Sharon spats in Bucky’s face.
„For the last time. Where is she?“ Not responding to Sharon's accusations.
„I’ll show you because she’s probably already dead. It was her or me and after all she was right about one thing: My loyalty can be bought.“ Sharon’s voice is filled with anger as she smiles at Bucky and Sam wickedly.
Sharon leads the way, a gun is pointed in her back. „If that’s a trap I’ll make sure you will regret the day you betrayed (y/f/n).“, Bucky whispers in her ear.
After a while they walk into a dark building which is guarded with several soldiers with heavy guns.
„They are with me. They wanna see the project.“
As they walk down the hall they see many doors with little windows. Bucky see other men and women in white hospital clothing laying on bed.
„(Y/f/n) is our special guest. She’s in the last room.“
The last room has three more soldiers guarding the door. As they step aside and Bucky, Sharon, Sam and Zemo enter the room, Bucky’s heart drops. There you are. Unconscious and weak. Bucky pushes Sharon aside and walks directly to your bed.
„Love?“, He caress your left cheek with his big hand. „Can you hear me? I need you to wake up. We have to get you out of here.“ He takes the syringe out of your arm and shakes you softly but you don’t respond.
„I’ve brought them here as you wished.“, mumbles Sharon in her ear piece.
The door opens again and soldiers run into the room to take their positions. „What a great day. Killing the winter soldier, the falcon and the vice-director of SHIELD. And this guy.“ A woman with black hair and big silver earrings walks into the room, looking from Bucky, to Sam, to you and to Zemo. „Good work, Carter. Well done.“, she pats Sharon on her shoulder. „You are Ms. De Fontaine. You were friends with Steve. How can you betray his legacy?“, Sam asks disgusted by her betrayal. „The world changes, Mr. Wilson. So does people and people’s goals.“
As Sharon and Valentina De Fontaine walk out of this room, Bucky and Sam, and even Zemo make themselves ready to fight.
„Have fun, boys.“, Valentina chimes as the the door closed.
15 soldiers versus 3 men. Bucky attacks first and then there was utter chaos. Punches, knife stabs and kicks. All you can hear are bones cracking, cries and thuds. Sam is pressed against the wall with no option to escape. „Any last words?“ , asks the soldier who points a gun at Sam. But before Sam could do anything the soldier collapses on the floor with a bullet in his left temple. Sam turns to his right. There is you. You lean against the wall with shaking legs. The gun is still in your hands as you whisper „Asshole“. While Sam and Zemo take the end of this fight as a small break to catch breath, Bucky rushes to you. He hugs you and kisses you dirty hair. „We need to get out of here.“ He grabs your hand as you all escape Madripoor.
Later on the plane, Bucky looks at you intensively. „Why didn’t you tell me?“
You look at him confusion written on your face. „Tell you about what?“
„About everything. You and SHIELD; You and Steve and you and Barton. I didn’t know you were a couple.“ The last part hurts Bucky the most. He feels this green monster inside him roaring out of jealousy.
„Clint and I were never a couple. Maybe a couple of idiots and friends. But there was never more between us. Clint and I lost so much but we didn’t lose the love we had for those who we lost. At that time we were in so much pain and grieve. No, a romantic relationship was something both of us never wanted- not with each other or with anyone else.“, you reassure Bucky. He doesn’t show it but Bucky is relieved and happy.
„There is still so much that I don’t know about you.“
„James, we broke up after you came back, remember? And people don’t really talk with their ex-partners.“
„Breaking up with you was the worst mistake I’ve ever made.“, whispers Bucky just for you to hear it.
„It’s okay, James. I’m okay. We changed. We both did. You changed. I changed. Heck, our whole family and the whole universe changed. And love does the same too.“
„Mine didn’t.“, says Bucky. „My feelings for you never changed. I still love you.“
You smile at Bucky for a while, not reacting to his love confession immediately.
You lean your head against the cold window of the plane and close your eyes. You spoke so softly that Bucky almost missed it you say. „I’ll always love you.“
Chapter 8
Author’s note at the end: Sorry, for making Sharon kinda bad. I love the Sharon in the movies and I love the actress, so it’s definitely nothing personal. Did you notice how much my you-character changed? A few chapters ago in Bucharest she didn't notice that she and Bucky were being followed but now she's more aware of her surrounding. ;)

SteveTony Weekly - May 2
I know I say every week that I read a lot this week but I have been indulging in my favorite coping technique and so this list is ridiculously long. Twitter encouraged me. Blame them.
**Indicates my recent favs
~*~
On the inherent homoeroticism of cake decoration by welcoming_disaster (616/8K)
“She’s matchmaking, Barton,” Carol sighed.
“We,” Thor corrected, thumping himself hard in the chest, “art matchmaking.”
“Who, Cap n’ Tony?” Clint asked, his mouth full.
“Cap and Tony,” Janet confirmed, cutting herself a thin slice of egg and gently depositing it on her whole grain avocado toast, “it’s getting ridiculous.”
“Wait, I thought they were—“ Clint frowned, glancing around the room as though to confirm. Nothing but confused faces met his questioning gaze. “Huh. I really thought they were fucking.”
“And there is the crux of the issue,” Jess licked a bit of spaghetti sauce off her lip.
“Aye,” agreed Thor, “there’s rub.”
-----------
The team tries to set up Steve and Tony. Things don't go as planned.
Baby lovers like you and me (never say die) by FestiveFerret (Old Guard AU/7.5K)
The Avengers. They'd found him frozen in the ice, told him he was immortal, of all things. And with the way he'd lived through seventy years deep in the Atlantic, he found himself inclined to believe them. They'd also been very… convincing.
Without question, they integrated him into their unit - The Avengers, a secret team of unkillables seeking wrongs around the world and making them right, supported and housed by an enigmatic billionaire named Tony Stark. Their immortality, it seemed, was a secret to everyone but him.
Ready, set, bake by ChocolateCapCookie (Great British Bake Off/11k)
The Avengers are on a nationally televised baking competition, but nobody seems to have warned the producers that the Avengers, while they save the world everyday and put their loves at risk doing so, are a) insanely competitive, and b) absolutely terrible bakers. Steve Rogers, especially, has a competitive streak a mile wide, and he's determined to win this competition, but it's not easy when his only real opponent is also the man he's been in love with for years.
***To make flowers grow (in this barren heart) by SoldiersShield, KakushiMiko (Hanahaki AU/16K)
“You hide yourself away in your technology, but you are just as human as the rest of them. Your heart betrays your desire to possess.” Her gaze falls to the arc reactor, and Tony's blood runs cold in his veins.
“The Earth will reclaim what we have lost,” she says, dragging a hand over the chestplate of the armor. “It is you, and your kind-- your greed that pulls life from the soil as if it were nothing. You will reap what you have sown, Stark. The avarice in your heart will strangle the very life out of you.” Arna meets his eyes once more, a serene smile on her face as she leans forward.
“I hope he is worth dying for,” she murmurs, before digging her hand into his ribcage.
(Tony Stark falls in love with Steve Rogers. A rogue enchantress ensures he pays for it.)
Shelter from the storm by silkspectred (KidFic/5k)
Tony adopts a baby. Guess who's Majorly Fucked Up™ about it.
Keep on beating by itsallAvengers (Domestic Fluff/6K)
There were an awful lot of things Steve loved about Tony. But one thing in particular Steve could never get enough of was his heartbeat.
The good or bad thing by petreparkour (Multiverse/10k)
“It’s the metal suit,” Thor informed Steve, his normally-booming voice tinny over the SHIELD comms. “What did Stark call it—Iron Man?”
“But he’s down here,” Steve protested as the Hulk roared in Stark’s face, startling him into waking with a shout. “How could—”
“It’s damaged,” Thor reported. “But it looks different. More advanced. And he—ah. He’s carrying you, Captain.”
“Please tell me nobody kissed me,” Stark breathed out, and then Stark’s voice suddenly came over the comms, but the man lying next to him hadn’t moved.
“Guys, come on, you’re killing me here. What is it, 2012? God, I hate time travel. First, I'm fighting Thanos. Now, I have to deal with my past self and Thor's bad haircut? Oh my God, Cap, yes I hacked their comms, they’re my comms.”
Steve nearly opened his mouth to protest that he hadn’t said anything when he realized that this replica of Tony Stark wasn’t speaking to him.
***The tipping point by nightwalker (Domestic Fluff/7K)
Tony has a few quirks. Steve's still trying to figure them all out.
We two, how long we were fool’d by glassessay (Soulmate AU/9K)
Steve Rogers comes into the world as unblemished as his mother. When Anthony Stark is born, his soulmark is an obvious pattern of ink across his tiny chest.
It only takes a century, two names, and a shared love of Walt Whitman for them to find each other.
The tape in the cave by betheflame (Canon Divergent/5K)
Steve had no idea what was happening.
“You think I didn’t know that?”
Tony was staring Zemo down as though the Sokovian was actual vermin - which, Steve reflected, he kind of was.
“You think that I,” Tony continued, not hiding the sneer in his voice, “Anthony Stark, who has more powerful technology in my literal fingers than most nations have, that I wouldn’t know everything possible about how my parents died? That I wouldn’t know it wasn’t an accident, that your silly little HYDRA Nazi knock-off pals are the ones who murdered them? Please, you are pathetic.”
Happy ending by Robin_tCJ (No-Powers AU/28K)
Steve is a mobile massage therapist, and Tony is a stressed billionaire. What could go wrong?
With a decent happiness by torigates (Teacher AU/16K)
Tony Stark is Iron Man. Steve Rogers isn't, and never was Captain America.
Or, the one where everything is the same except Steve is a kindergarten teacher.
Nothing left but scars by SailorChibi (MCU/6.7K) - Reread
Steve wakes up to the fact that no one ever compliments or even says thank you to Tony, and that he has fallen into the same trap of painting Tony with a specific paintbrush.
This is how he showers a very confused Tony with praise to make up for it.
Our hearts should remember and follow by frostfall (MCU/5K)
Steve hums. “I didn’t know you could play. Or sing. Don’t think I’ve heard anyone mention it before.”
Tony shrugs. “It’s one of the few things, skills, I don’t flaunt. Not something people are interested in, anyway. Not gonna sway any board members by playing fucking Für Elise for them. Sides’, there’s a high chance I wouldn’t even play. Well, maybe if you get me drunk enough and near an instrument. Then, I might reconsider.”
(After a dream leaves Tony rattled, he turns to the piano as a way to distract himself.)
Finally, you and me by pensversusswords (Multiverse/10K)
Because in every layer of time, in every conceivable dimension, he was always meant to love Steve.
By some miracle, Steve was meant to love him back.
***Full disclosure not required (but appreciated) by Potrix (Identity Porn/16k)
The one where Steve knows more than he lets on, Tony knows less than he pretends, Clint has a big mouth, Bucky is a little shit, and everyone learns why keeping secrets never ends well.
Almost never, anyway.
Heartlines by nanasekei (MCU/7.9K)
“Let me,” Tony repeats. He regrets it deeply, so much, he wants to stick the words back into his mouth again, and it must show, in the way his voice wavers. He feels exposed, all of a sudden, as if he’s asking something bigger than what he can actually say. Let me touch you, let me take care of you. “Just… Let me do it.”
i found a way to let you in, but i never really had a doubt (marriage series) by quidhitch (Marriage Series/16k)
Tony Stark doesn’t believe in marriage. It’s nobody’s fault. —Well, it’s Howard's fault, probably, but Tony doesn’t like to think about that for too long, finds that it dredges up all sorts of issues he’d rather keep buried under a mountain of strategically employed sarcasm, humorous self-deprecation, and the occasionally effective substance abuse.
***Hide your love away by sineala (Soulmate/33K) - Reread
Tony has suspected for a long time that the soulmark on his chest matches Steve's -- but he's never told Steve about it. And then it's too late to tell Steve anything at all ever again. In the wake of Steve's death, the Skrull invasion, and Norman Osborn's rise to power, the identity of his soulmate is just one of the many things Tony cuts out of his memory forever.
When Tony returns to consciousness, he's forced to deal with the aftermath of a war he no longer remembers fighting, not to mention a Steve Rogers who can barely stand to be in the same room with him. Surely the last thing Tony could ever need in his life is more amnesia. But that's what he gets. And Tony's new missing memory just might be the key to finding out the truth of his soulmark... as well as his chance to make things right once and for all.
Break the chain (can’t live in circles again) by orphan_account (FWB/19K)
There had been seven amazing weeks of dating Steve Rogers before Tony realised that they weren’t dating at all. And then it was a scramble to adjust to the situation as it had always been: being Steve’s friend-with-benefits.
And if Steve seemed a little confused and bewildered by the way Tony was acting, well. Tony was probably just misreading that, too.
Five times steve and tony (tried to) bail each other out of jail by Teyke (MCU/6k)
Twice before Civil War, twice after, and once during. For very loose definitions of both 'bail' and 'jail'.
Cracked hearts under iron ribs by XtaticPearl (Established Relationship/14k)
Rhodey is away for almost six months now and comes to meet Tony after the mission. He doesn't understand the domesticity of the whole Tower and unknowingly sets off a whole truck of insecurities which make Tony crawl back into being a Stark instead of just Tony. The team is not at all happy and Rhodey joins them in trying to figure out a way to help their resident genius feel better in his skin.
The single biggest problem with communication by BlossomsintheMist (616/108K)
In the wake of Steve's return from the dead and the end of Norman Osborn's reign of terror, the superhero community is recovering--Steve has taken on a new role and Tony is trying to put his life back together. Things are still awkward between them, but they're determined to put things to rights. But when a discussion about their feelings leads to further misunderstandings, they discover that might be more difficult than either of them realized. Set in the early Heroic Age after the end of Dark Reign, this is a get-together story about crossed wires--and second chances.
What are friends for? by bobertsmallismydad (MCU /2.8K)
In which Steve is targeted by a virus. Will the Avengers be able to save him in time?
Starving by festiveferret (Vampire AU/2K)
Steve woke up starving.
***Everybody wonders (What it would be like to love you) by SoldiersShield (MCU/3K)
“...Is that what this is about?” He asks slowly. Steve blanches.
“Oh my god. It is.” Tony has no right looking as giddy as he does. “Steven Grant Rogers, are you jealous?”
--
Or: Steve and Tony have been dancing around each other for a while now, and Steve's rather content with it. Attending a gala together just might change that.
Re(A)d all over by brandnewfashion, MusicalLuna (Drunk Flirting/3k)
Contrary to popular belief, Tony Stark can blush.
It just takes Steve getting drunk on some magical Asgardian mead for it to finally happen.
***The Do-over Proposal by nightwalker (Established Relationship/1.2k)
Steve wants to go on a journey, Tony doesn't think it's a good time, and Bucky needs to beat some sense into both these idiots.
A Winter’s Ball by alliejowrites (Victorian AU/3.8K)
Steve moves to London in search of a patron, so that he can finally devote himself to painting. He is not expecting everything he finds upon meeting Lord Stark. A fluffy little Victorian AU. One-shot.
What’s a fanfic by starksnack (AvAc/1K)
Kamala introduces Tony and Steve to the world of fanfiction. There is a surprising amount of content about them being gay.
