Related to my last reblog, I do wonder if a lot of people my age (early 30s) ended up with our opinions of feminism kinda warped by the way it was treated online.
I'm conjecturing a lot here, but I feel like a lot of people using the word "feminist" pejoratively – I'm looking at you here, atheist YouTube – used it less as a reference to a specific ideology and more as a way of indicating "left-wing person who believes others deserve rights".
Think about how "feminist" or "feminazi" became "SJW". Like if you're a feminist, you're a social justice warrior, so you're left wing, you believe in equality, you're progressive, right?
Except that feminism covers a huge spectrum of ideologies clustered under the umbrella of "Promoting women's social, political and economic rights", and not all of those ideologies are going to be intersectional. Being a feminist is not the same thing as being anti-racist, or trans-inclusive, or pro-queer, or disability positive, or opposed to fat hatred, or supportive of Jewish people, or any other progressive stance.
Feminism is about the rights and equality of women. That means even the shitty forms – white feminism, trans excluding radical feminism, sex worker excluding radical feminism, any other shitty form of feminism you can think of – is still feminism.
It's shitty feminism. But it's still feminism. And we can't just shove them under the carpet by saying "They're not real feminists" because they are. We have to acknowledge them. Accept that, whether we want them or not, they are a part of our movement. And then we work together as hard as fucking possible to prove oh my god your version of feminism is really really shit for people who aren't just like you let's do it the way that doesn't make the world worse.
#anyway that's my long rant nobody will read#also like I said this is conjecture and I have no evidence for this#it's mostly a gut feeling I have#so YMMV#also this is probably only applicable to the white people#(I am very white)#so again YMMV

Been watching through Link Click with my brother for Sibling Anime Night and, as this is my second watch, there are all these little details that are just driving me crazy. I have to remember not to say a darn thing because he doesn't know yet, but geez. They put some thought into this. They knew what they were doing.
Here are a few:
Qiao Ling telling Cheng Xiaoshi that Lu Guang is way more mature than him despite being the younger of the two.
Near the end of the first episode (in the sub), Lu Guang very insistently tells Cheng Xiaoshi to never ask about the future.
In the Noodle Lesbians episode, Cheng Xiaoshi telling Lu Guang, "Just because you don't see a glimmer of hope doesn't mean it's not hiding somewhere," and Lu Guang's expression fading into this soft smile as he chuckles, as if he's thinking, "It's just like you to say something like that."
In the basketball episode, how jealous Lu Guang sounds when Cheng Xiaoshi high-fives someone else.
When Cheng Xiaoshi runs out to start warning people about the earthquake, Lu Guang gritting his teeth and shouting, "You can't save them. They are already dead!" And then hurriedly lecturing Cheng Xiaoshi on how much of a fixed point death is no matter how much you might want to change it. "No matter how hard this is, you can't alter their fates!"
Lu Guang: "The future that we now know could completely disappear." (dub) "It could even cause the disappearance of the life we have now." (sub)
In the Aunt May arc, the three superheroes that our main three dress up as being the Star of Justice, Bringing Hope (Cheng Xiaoshi), Star of Courage, Conquering Fear (Lu Guang), and Star of Wisdom, Lighting the Way (sub)/Serving Knowledge (dub) (Qiao Ling). Gods, I could write an essay just on that.
I just... I just wanna grab some of these characters and shake them. Maybe slap them a few times. Why they gotta be like this?
#we're watching the sub but i watched the dub before#this one's definitely going on my “just watch the dub” list though#the sub is somehow gayer but it's also really poorly translated so it's distracting to read bc the english doesn't make sense#like no one says things like that in english please adapt it a bit more so it sounds natural#then again i'm an editor so i literally get paid to get annoyed by that stuff so ymmv#cheng xiaoshi#qiao ling#lu guang#link click#shiguang daili ren#sibling anime night#pancake thoughts

Note to self: word prayers better when doing divinatory sessions
I think I've mentioned this before, but I do yes/no stone pulls on Sundays to ask for guidance about maintaining my health re: my commute because it's 2-2.5 hours each way via public transit if everything runs on time. It's rough on me in multiple ways and can lead to even more migraines than usual or being too fatigued to work at all, and it can be difficult to tell whether I'll have the spoons to go in person.
This past Sunday I was exhausted & stressed because of, you know, the horrors, and said my initial prayer a little differently than I usually do. I still invoked Apollo and Hermes as always, as both of them cover divination by lots, Apollo's domain covers health & disease, and he's the one I turn to for divination by default.
Now, the vast majority of the guidance and lessons Apollo has given have had to do with recognizing my physical & mental limits, especially around this issue. The answers I was getting this time around were...odd but not quite in the way they have been with just dud pulls, so I started asking clarifying questions to figure out what was going on. After a few - establishing that there was a reason for the answers but it wasn't a test or punishment or Apollo messing with me (which would have been. odd) - I realized that while I'd invoked Hermes as a god of divination by lots alongside Apollo, I had not explicitly asked him to act as a messenger and aid in communication this time around, nor had I asked Apollo to guide the divination session with the wording I usually use.
I think you can see where I'm going with this.
I re-said the prayer (correctly this time) and confirmed that it was, in fact, Hermes at first while re-doing the initial set of questions (which were much more consistent in the usual way), as well as confirming that the issue was the prayer wording. Lesson learned lol
#full transparency: shortly after the initial set of re-do questions i had a panic attack/meltdown (b/c of. again. the Horrors)#that was made worse by the third part of the session (some questions i thought to ask after the re-dos) being a dud#i did another pull wednesday morning after i had had a couple days to recover & the biggest stressor was over with#& i felt ready to re-engage with it#(& also knew that not clarifying the last part of the pull would make the Everything worse)#and i asked about each section (hermes -> commute question re-do -> the Bad Times questions)#and got *another* confirmation that it was actually hermes at first & that the middle section was accurate and (thankfully) that#the last one was not#i check my work *thoroughly* b/c tangible external things like divination are the most reliable things i have#b/c i cant always trust internal cues#coriander says#helpol#apollo#apollon#hermes#hellenic pagan#hellenic polytheism#hellenic community#divination#also! to be clear! ymmv when worshipping/working with/etc. deities#just b/c this was my experience doesnt mean this will be your experience!#also also. i personally dont believe all of the gods might do the sort of thing hermes did. he's a trickster god#which is why the possibility that it was him was on my radar in the first place#apollo doesnt have trickster aspects afaik (i could be wrong!) so it seemed off. and hermes wasnt. like. *impersonating* apollo#i didnt ask explicitly who it was at first b/c that's not a necessary part of my process- you dont *need* to clarify by default in helpol#& now that i know why it happened i can avoid the situation in the future & have a data point to compare to in case it *does* happen again

White Apple Family does also make the thing with equestria girls big mac into "how do you whitewash a white guy", so there's that
we had blacked out eqg big mac until receiving this ask. god. im not sure we ever totally internalized that that guy was big mac like, emotionally
#ask#anonymous#Same way they whitewashed literally everyone else i presume#I mean ymmv on their individual ethnicities but i’m pretty sure they did it— again—#to literally every teen with an existing horse character model. So… statistically?

Sometimes I worry that I’m self centered or that I need to read more theory. Then I see a trans blogger say (unfortunately not exaggerating the verbiage) “trans men shouldn’t complain about being refused a bed in domestic violence shelters, at least they have the option to access them if they detransition.” And you know what? I think I’m doing fine actually.
#wild that this has gone from something only TERFs say#to something trans people are telling each other#something tells me it’s not a privilege if accessing it makes me overtly suicidal but ymmv#then again most people didn’t grow up seeing what I did so I’m sure this is a purely hypothetical non-issue to them

Correspondence but not in the long lists from books way but in the studying folklore and scientific properties and healing uses, meditating on the plant and playing word association with what you find until one day you're planning a spell and inspiration blesses you with her sweet smile and you're like "Oh, I know a guy thatd be perfect for this" and its just something chilling in your garden
#wren's warbles#witchcraft#plant witchcraft#to clarify lists are still useful !! sometimes im less familiar with stuff and rely on what other witches have found#or used correspondence lists to fogure out what plants i should be researching#but ime the more time youve spent building a relationship with a spell ingredient the more it responds#but then again im approaching this frkm an aminist perspective so ymmv#plant spirits my beloved <3

forever thinking about Helen Vaughan fron The Great God Pan. it's not a good novella and it's weird and misogynist about her but goddamn she was so alone. she was always so alone. the father who created her in a twisted and violative experiment sent her away when she was twelve. she found herself to be 'of a different type' than the people around her wherever she went. she had friendships of a 'peculiarly intimate character' with village girls who always left screaming and in tears. she married and she travelled but she 'corrupted [people] body and soul' wherever she went.
do you think she knew? what sort of being she was? do you think she had an awareness of being alien wherever she went? we see her refracted a thousand times through the men who create her and discard her and marry her and kill her, but we never see her. we never hear her speak.
she must have been so lonely.
#the great god pan#arthur machen#literally who has ever read this book#but you should#again it's bad#but it's one of those texts that has aged such that a completely different reading of it is not only possible but perhaps more prominent#than the original misogynist thrust the author probably intended. maybe. I am an enthusiastic evil woman apologist so ymmv#will-read#✨️#helen vaughan

I went into bg3 fully ready to have a good time and have done so despite many ways in which the game is not good and have not worried too much over various dramas about patch changes but my chill streak has finally ended and I am wailing gnashing my teeth etc. about patch 7 (the supposedly final one with story/content changes) not adding companion reactivity for any of the durge content in act 2
#gotta regain my chill about this. it doesn't change the good version of bg3 that exists in my head#but like. durge is literally the protagonist character. and a huge chunk of story is just bizarrely missing from act two#all the baddies recognize you and no one reacts#warden says you were an important guest no one reacts#kressa says she had a great time torturing you for weeks no one reacts#and it's so misaligned with companion reactivity for everything else. like#I am one of those players who goes around the camp circle talking to every single companion after anything even mildly important happens#to hear the couple of lines of dialogue they have about it#because they've got a couple of lines of dialogue about every plot development and significant moment in other companion storylines!#but they don't have a single word for enormous central plotline revelations about the player character#it makes the act 3 reactions bizarre too because everyone's shocked by what gortash says and it's like#literally everyone in moonrise was like 'oh hey it's you again' what did you THINK 😭#a lot of people complain about the resist!durge final scene after killing orin being lackluster#and yeah sure I feel it's lacking in a few ways but like. at least it exists.#a cutscene does play and afterwards the companions do react. ymmv on whether those reactions are impactful or fitting#but they do--crucially--exist#whereas in act 2 there is straight up nothing#when people say right in front of the companions 'hello fellow villain fancy seeing you back here again'#there is not even so much as a 'dude are you okay' after kressa talks about keeping durge prisoner and torturing them#okay okay it's fine I'm getting it out of my system I'm gonna be normal about this again#the companions had reactions in the good version that exists in my head 😔#scribblingface plays bg3#okay actually also like larian has made so many changes based on fans complaining a lot about something#often changes that made the complaining people happy but pissed off everyone who already liked the current version#not weighing in on the merit of various specifics but it has struck me as a sometimes odd and unwise degree of#listening to what the players want. like just tell your story and accept that some parts won't please everyone#but THIS THING is universally agreed on by every durge player#because it's not something 'wrong' it's something completely absent that should have been there in order to align with the rest of the game#and yet. we don't get this change in the final update.

Well, that was unsurprising.
#19 edits has posted a fic#i had to back button after three sentences#just how they constructed sentences hurt my head#i know i'm not great at writing (and still sometimes wanna spell it grammer not grammar) but still#maybe its a ymmv type dealie#pretty sure most people would be ok with it. i'm just a petty snob#(yup. i'm not a nice person after 2am. sorry about that?)#its me hi im the problem its me#petty post is petty#went back before posting this thinking maybe i'm being too harsh. nope#the paragraph of exposition made me pinch the bridge of my nose before back buttoning again#think that's one to avoid#(which is a shame because the idea of the apocalypse sounds good if a bit hackneyed - very aschen)#(they do mention a few inspirations so... *shrug*)#am i being harsh? i actually don't know 😬#i'm going to bed

omg just read your romance post… would you recommend not romancing lucanis then? 😭😭 i’m sooooo sad, he’s def my favorite rn..
behind a cut because idk just in case although i don't mention anything specific
I mean...I don't want to say don't romance him because to be fair this kind of stuff is always very subjective. And I'll put the disclaimer here that I haven't finished it - maybe it gets really great at the end and that saves the whole thing for me and I'll be embarrassed I ever said it was bad! Lol. I've definitely seen people who really liked his romance. And I can see what they're trying to do with the writing. But I would just say go in expecting it to be a bit of a tonal shift from the initial coffee meetup with Illario, and likely less romance-y romance content than is generally expected (and tbf this seems to be a thing with several romances, not just his.). But if you really like him I think it's probably still worth experiencing, since the end IS apparently really good. I've just been perplexed by the journey lol.
#veilguard spoilers#da4 spoilers#dragon age spoilers#its so interesting bc the bones of the romance we got appeal to me a lot more than like. a zevran retread or whatever#it just feels like an outline to me at this point#and yk again...ymmv#i know for a fact there's tons of people on twitter who would be appalled and call me an idiot for thinking his romance isn't great lol so#coiffure replies

The absolute irony of watching an episode (and a half) of Miraculous Tales of Ladybug and Chat Noir out of curiosity the other night while waiting out a PC update to be done only to get hit with the news it just ended its first arc after eight years.
#just for the record i have no horse in this race on the show so i can't give an honest opinion#other than there are a lot of fics for it on AO3#and the story quality has questionably dipped although YMMV#but how do you spend EIGHT YEARS on a single arc???#i don't think even one piece is that bad and the pacing is fucking GLACIAL#yeah btw somebody on tw!tter called this show the one piece for french ppl and i lost it lmao#no but srsly how do you drag an arc out for that long#sailor moon had five seasons and by the end of the show the girls were more than halfway through high school#eight arcs and the show's cast is still in MIDDLE SCHOOL#if there's a sense of time progressing idk but you'd think by the end of season five they'd already be in high school#again i can't form an opinion b/c i have next to no knowledge on the show#i'm just surprised it took THIS LONG to wrap up just ONE story arc#miraculous ladybug#fuck it i'm tagging this just to see if anybody else is just as surprised as i am YEET

actually now that i think about it so many of the one liners in the first predator movie that rewired my brain are also on the cusp of some of the most blatantly sexist/homophobic shit you've ever heard.
i often forget 'A GODDAMN SEXUAL TYRANNOSAURUS, LIKE ME' is on the heels of that same character calling everyone else a bunch of faggots lmao
#txt.txt#slurs tw#it's okay though i forgive jesse ventura because he also went ape on jericovid's podcast about how he would have straight up#murdered the jan 6th insurgents so like. we stan a problematic king.#also fwiw again: i think some of this shit is so over the top bc thats like. part of the point.#i can't take any of it seriously as being offensive because it feels intentionally satirical. even other action films of the era weren't#so blatant with it. ymmv of course just because i chose to view it this way doesn't mean everyone does#the reese really said 'a little homophobia is a small price to pay for alien cheeks'

it's like white privilege. you don't opt out of it. it's a way of discussing systems of power, it's not a personal attack. does cultural christianity also make you stupid or something?
#do you have a protestant work ethic? ok so where do you think you got it#i think you have to study judaism to understand just how fucked up christianity is#idk about islam or other religious world views but i didn't see how bad christianity truly is until i learned about judaism#for example... prostelyzation. you might assume ''they're saying that bc they want to convert me'' nah bud that's a christian thing#i'm not saying judaism is better (imo it is but that's just my opinion) but it's genuinely enriching to see a DIFFERENT world view#wrt forgiveness. charity. the afterlife. all that stuff. it's just different#like i think it could be healing for ex christians to learn but unfortch they're so traumatized by christianity they think it=all religion#the assumption that all religion is gonna be Like That is part of cultural christianity i think!!#i'm an atheist too i promise i'm not trying to convert you. again that is not the goal of judaism.#like learn any other world view besides christian. i just say jewish bc it's what *i've* learned & *i* found it helpful but ymmv#being informed & educated doesn't mean you have to believe it. it just make brain grow to eat more knowledge

Sometimes I forget how some romantic tropes just kind of weird me out and then I read something like “I just want to look at your face,” and I’m all, in the quietest voice with the greatest possible conviction, “No.”
