Sae Itoshi x reader
Rating: green
Main character: Sae Itoshi
It’s my first story after loooooooong time. Please be gentle with me :(
Plot: A story where Sae’s girlfriend is thinking he’s cheating on her ‘cause he’s avoiding her. She doesn’t know Sae’s making her a big surprise.
The first thing I see when I open my eyes is the sunlight that’s illuminating Sae’s empty part of the bed.
<<As always.>>
I get out of the bed, half-naked, grabbing from the chair one of Sae’s team shirt. I look at my figure reflects into the mirror: his surname written on the back makes my heart race, imagining me as Mrs. Itoshi.
<<Where the hell is he now?>>
I speak to myself, checking the time on my phone: 9:27. Sighing, I go to the kitchen, grabbing something to eat until my phone rings.
<<Finally I can hear your voice. But when I can see you, too? Or are you too busy in your pro-player life?>>
<<Stop with this ironic tone, (Y/N). Y’know I’m busy with my football career, you knew it when we started dating.>>
His voice sounds into my ears, before being lightly covered by a girl’s voice that makes my heart skips a beat.
<<Sae, who’s—>>
I try to speak before hearing Sae’s voice interrupt mine.
<<I have to go. See you later.>>
I look at the screen phone: he closed the call. Then a strange feeling starts to possess me. I clearly heard a girl’s voice, no mistakes. I don’t wanna think that Sae’s cheating on me.
<<He’s not capable of something like this, he’s not…>>
I whisper, trying to convince myself that there must be an explanation. Trying to forgot everything, I prepare myself and go to work.
For the next two weeks and half I haven’t the chance to talk to Sae because he’s always everywhere but not at home. I tried to contact his teammates without success and the thought of him having another woman is scaring me.
Maybe I’m not anymore good enough for him?
He’s not with me when I go to bed. He’s not with me when I wake up. He’s not with me when I’m at home.
I never receive a call, like he’s ghosting me.
Until one day.
I’m at home, looking at the TV, then I hear the door opens: Sae.
I look at him with anger on my eyes and I stand up, go to him.
<<Finally you show yourself at home. To me.>>
I put my hands on my waist.
<<Where were you?>>I say.
<<At practice, as always (Y/N). You should know my schedule.>>
<<No, Sae. Where the fuck were you ALL this time?!>>
He looks at me, panicked.
<<Y’know this is my job. And sometimes it takes me more of my free time.>>
<<Really? I didn’t know that another girl is now called “job” or “more practice”.>>
He opens his mouth to speak, interrupted by me.
<<I clearly heard the voice of another woman, Sae. At the phone. Now you show yourself properly after 17 days. We’ve been together for 5 years now and I don’t think I deserve all this. It’s over.>>
He grabs my hand, sighing.
<<I knew you were so stubborn, but I didn’t think you were so much.>>
I look at him. <<Are you kidd—>>
<<Yeah, it was a woman’s voice, but it’s not what you think.>> He explains.
<<Find another excuse, Itoshi.>>
<<So stubborn.>> He whispers, <<if you had the patience of waiting another one or two days, you could understand why I’m gone for all this time. That woman was helping me to choose something for you.>>
He puts his hand into his jacket, taking out a little blue box. I bring my hand on my mouth, connecting all the entire situation.
<<Sae.. you..>>
<<Now shut up. For once. I’m speaking.>>
He’s down on his knees, opening the box and revealing a wonderful engagement ring with a bright diamond.
<<But of course you can’t wait. You have to blabbing about another woman and other shit. I haven’t imagined to propose to you in this way. I had a plan. But now I think it’s all vanished into the trash. So listen careful because I’m not gonna repeat myself. I’m not the type who says sweet things, but when it comes to you I can. You have the power to bring out the most beautiful part of me that only you could find. I say it without a long speech, so, would you like to be Mrs. Itoshi and marry me?>>
Sobbing, I whisper a “yes”, kissing him, after he put the ring around my finger.
<<I love you, Sae, you don’t know how much you scared me.>>
<<You stupid little girl. I think it’s time to let all know that you’re officially mine.>>

I’m starting with a request by @alphardofthealley as thanks for the lyrics copy. I’m so sorry the “few days” I promised you had turned into months. I hope this translation satisfies you.

As long as people keep living, mysteries will continue to spawn Countless connections, a gem of mysteries My heart is captivated by mysteries Mysteries mystify the mystery with another mystery*
Ah This, too, is a gem of mysteries A seemingly insignificant speck of light But if you’re waiting on the other side (of this light) Lord of Crime, Lord of Crime...

Mysteries mystify the mystery with another mystery*
* I tried to keep the play on the word “nazo” (mystery). It means the mysteries are piling up so much, they’re all getting entangled. Basically, Sherlock is wrapped in mysteries.

I read the first 10 chapters of 7 FATES: CHAKHO on Wattpad
We only get one webtoon chapter each week, and there is 10 chapters coming - so I thought those 10 chapters on Wattpad was a finished story. But no no no! It’s only the beginning. And it looks like they will add more chapters each friday on Wattpad. I think this thing is gonna be loooooooong.
Webtoon vs Wattpad (written story)
So compared to the text version on Wattpad you get almost zero information in the webtoon. The first chapter in the webtoon is covered in the first two chapters on wattpad, and there is a lot of info about the universe, the characters and simply just what happens in the story. So, if you want to understand what is going on, you need to read the story on Wattpad.
Info about the story and the boys’ characters
The story is 100% centered around Zeha - “Jungkook’s character”. He is the main focus, and it is his story we are told. Haru - Jimin’s character - shows up in the first chapter (or second?) but he is just a sidekick through it all, and we never get to hear from his point of view (I don’t feel like we know him at all). Do-Geon shows up briefly around chapter 6, and we actually hear from his point of view. He turns up again later. Hwan, Jin character, just shows up briefly at the end. Tae, Yoongi and Hobi’s characters haven’t showed up yet.
*(Spoiler)*We have some SERIOUS shipping between Zeha and Do-Geon going on? Like for real…. I was soooo shooked… They talk about falling in love with each other and they both felt something in their heart when they met. Like serious love at first sight. One of them is like “I’m not into men”?!?!? Sorry…. But I think that’s REALLY weird and kinda problematic? Because it feels like HYBE is shipping Namkook??! But I guess I might take it a bit too serious with the boys being connected with their characters. It’s just kinda hard not to interpret it like that. And it feels so much like fan-service in a very bad way… I’m not happy about it.
What do I think then?
Wow… the story is…. Really bad written. Like, it’s bad. And it sounds EXACTLY like a fanfic. Like all the elements from a fanfic is there 😂! (No smut though!!). I can’t explain, I think you have to read it and you KNOW.
The scenes changes very abruptly, and the dialogue is so awkward. And their thoughts are so cringe and fake. A lot of times it’s just really confusing 😅😅! And the characters are weird and very one-dimensional. 50% of the time I was thinking: why is he doing that? What just happened? This makes zero sense. This is bad world-building. Why is he suddenly so violet? Why is this written as a romantic Namkook fluff fic?
It just seems very amateurish… I wonder if it sounds better in Korean and the translation is just bad?

Haikyuu!! and My Hero Academia crossover because those are the two shows currently living rent-free in my head. This is probably going to be the first of several posts
Loooooooong ramble about Quirks, hero names, costume notes, and the screencaps I ref’d under the cut
Hinata: some sort of jumping/speed Quirk like Gran Torino, or that Pop Step kid from the Vigilantes spinoff. I wanted a vaguely ninja-ish look because of the whole Ninja Shouyou thing, and I like the hero name Helios (a Greek sun god)
Kageyama: Telekinesis. I imagine he wouldn’t be able to move anything heavier than he could move with his physical body (though my boy Tobio’s pretty strong so that wouldn’t hold him back too much), but it’s his precision that makes him a force to be reckoned with, one of these days I’m gonna draw him mid-fight controlling ten gazillion bits of debris all at once.
I ref’d his costume mostly from like Disney princes tbh, wanted to keep the royal Kingly motif, especially the red cape even though I kiboshed the fur trim because it looked weird with the rest of the outfit in my sketches. I feel like a cape could be pretty useful with a telekinetic power too, sweep it off while you’re chasing down a baddie and send it ahead of you to tackle them and wrap them all up in a little villain burrito they can’t escape from.
No hero name yet, I feel like “King” is too basic?
Reference:
Oikawa: Gravity suspension just like Uraraka. I like the idea of him with a Quirk that isn’t inherently super badass and which needs a lot of work to be made powerful, and the potential for a Kageyama-related inferiority complex since from a certain angle you could argue that Kags does what Oikawa does (suspending things in mid-air) but better, but at the same time Oikawa has things only he can do.
Costume heavily inspired by the uniforms in Star Trek Discovery, plus Seijoh colours and a visor since I wanted something on his face but didn’t want to have a full face shield like Uraraka. Hero name Roswell, since a gravity Quirk lends itself to an alien/space inspired name I think.
Reference:
Yamaguchi: Trajectory-altering, sort of like Snipe or that kid Itejiro Toteki from the provisional licensing arc (and, of course, like his jump float serve). Not totally settled on this costume design since it’s pretty obvious I’m cribbing from mainstream archery heroes like Hawkeye (though I took inspiration from both Clint Barton and Kate Bishop), but I do think purple’s a good colour on him. Hero name Polaris, both because the guiding North Star matches someone with perfect aim, and since I’ve always loved the fandom association of him with stars, people have made such gorgeous art because of it. Also, that star on his shoulder has 12 points.
I also included the mask because I think he probably wanted to cover up his freckles; even if he’s a hero-to-be in this world, poor Tadashi definitely still has some self-esteem issues to work on.
Tsukishima: He can block other quirks, kind of, but not exactly, like Aizawa. Reflecting how in volleyball one can reduce the effectiveness of a spike by getting close/a one-touch, or completely shut it down, Tsukki can reduce the effectiveness of a Quirk just by looking and completely shut it down if he touches them. Also like a volleyball block, Tsukki’s Quirk blocking lasts a few seconds after he makes contact so he doesn’t have Aizawa’s blinking problem, but the opponent can still land another hit if he doesn’t keep up.
Hero name Eclipse, because how could I possibly give Tsukki a hero name that didn’t have something to do with the moon. Costume is basically Indiana Jones’ outfit without the hat (which... admittedly makes it not very Indiana Jones-ish anymore) since Tsukki 1) is too practical to want anything flashy and 2) is on track to work at a museum after the time skip. The bullwhip is also an Indiana Jones element, since I didn’t want him to have a scarf like Aizawa but a capture weapon still seems like a good idea if he has to touch his opponents to completely shut them down.

Taste of Metal - Chapter 12: Turning up the Volume - [AO3 LINK]
The song Gordon is singing in this chapter is "I Hate to Dance" by Mustasch! Click here to listen to it!
PS: The alternative title for this chapter: "Gordon Goes Apeshit In A Healthy Way!! YEAH!! >:D"
- - - It was always something else to hear how your voice sounded like to everyone but yourself.
Gordon had been used to it for a long time, mostly thanks to the years he recorded music with his band, but seeing his new friends react to his recorded songs made him pause a bit in thought.
When he and Newton had founded “Black Velvet Rabbits” together, both of their voices were still in the middle of their second puberty. Uneven, scratchy at times… and by far not as resilient as they wanted them to be.
That didn’t mean it stopped either of them from putting their heart and soul into every song they played. It made their first few tapes rough to listen to, but Gordon felt a huge amount of fondness for them regardless.
All their frustration with their lives, the school system, society, their bodies, their struggles with ADHD and BPD respectively- it all went into their music.
It was the sound of desperately struggling youths doing anything they could in their limited power to be heard.
Gordon was well aware that some of their former bandmates thought back to BVR and rolled their eyes at their gigs and “rockstar dreams”. He himself though? He was proud. Both of himself and Newton. Proud of having this tangible proof that they got through one of the hardest times of their lives together, doing something that they had put together with no outside help, with no overbearing parental figures forcing them to succeed. They created music because it was the one thing they had complete control over… and it had been absolutely intoxicating and freeing at the same time.
Even now, as their old recordings played in the background, Gordon found himself gently swaying side to side to the tempo of the tune, humming softly along as he was sorting through the remaining contents of the boxes on the floor.
He looked up from his spot, smiling fondly at Bubby letting out a cry of joy when he recognized another classic rock song that BVR had recorded a cover of.
“Your band might sound like absolute ass but at least they had taste!”, he exclaimed, drumming happily along to the beat on the floor beside Gordon.
“Yeah… our sound quality wasn’t the greatest until… 2014, I think? ”, Gordon pondered out loud. “You’ll notice the change instantly though! Around that time we also actually figured out in which direction we wanted to take our style as well. Took us a while, I know, but… good things take time!”
Speaking of good things taking time- the construction of the pocket dimension within the storage closet seemed to be going nice and steady by the looks of it.
Every time the doors opened and Tommy stepped out to take a small break, Gordon couldn’t help trying to catch a glimpse inside, which kept earning him a loud “NO PEAKING!” from Tommy- only for him to hear it echoed by Dr Coomer, Benrey and Joshua seconds later.
When eventually each member of the Science Team joined Tommy to help out with the closet, Gordon let himself be focused on his sorting task, Sunkist laying beside him as his only company for the time being.
“Guess it’s only the two of us for a bit, huh?”, he said, giving the huge dog a few loving pats on her side. Sunkist let out an affirmative woof and rested her head on Gordon’s thigh, earning a smile from Gordon.
He resumed swaying along to a new tune starting to play on the stereo, now allowing himself to add a few more subtle movements as well.
He found himself nodding along to the rhythm, his long wavy hair swaying in a way it hadn’t in a very long time.
As the side of his right foot began to gently tap against the floor as well, Sunkist got up and pushed her head against Gordon’s shoulder.
Gordon stared at her for a moment, unsure of what she expected him to do, but as the golden retriever started to gently dig into the carpet surprisingly in tune with the beat, something clicked in Gordon’s head.
He scrambled to get up on his feet, laughed as Sunkist let out a happy bark and started running excited circles around him when he started tapping his foot again.
It had been a while… but no one was in the room right now to judge him. And Sunkist, being the perfect and most supportive dog, would never make him feel guilty about any of this.
He looked down to his tapping feet, his hand closed into a fist as he assembles the old courage and opened his mouth-
“♫ I ain't a boring barfly…so please don't get me wrong, oh- Come on! Yeah, come on! I've been saying this for. Far. Too. LooooOOOONG!! ♪”
Gordon felt himself smile as he raised his voice, mirroring the energy of the younger version of it coming from the speakers.
As he moved his hips and head in rhythm to the beat of the tune, he leaned down towards Sunkist and decided at the moment that, hey, she might be the best audience he had in years - might as well sing for the best girl!
She positively bounced excitedly around Gordon’s feet as the man himself started to jump along with her and the music-
“♪ I haaaate to disappoint you! I'm not the guy you need- so, feel freeee! You can leeeeave! ‘Cause I'll nEVER SWING LIKE A MONKEY FROM. THE. TREEEEES! ♫”
Sunkist let out a loud approving bark at the sound of Gordon letting himself be loud, but this time fully because of joy, nothing like the pained and frustrated yelling he had done all throughout the simulation.
This was how Gordon was supposed to sound like. Loud, happy and confident-
“♪ It’s of great importance! This is what yOU. ALL. SHOULD. DOOOOO- ♫”
The possibility of complaining neighbours be damned, Gordon rushed over to this stereo and turned the volume significantly up, still mindful of Sunkist being in the room with him. No matter how perfect Tommy made her, Gordon really didn’t want to accidentally hurt her hearing.
He returned to moving around the living room, his steps becoming confident stomping as he basically had Sunkist follow his path between the furniture at this point. He ran his hand through his hair, letting the majority of it fall over the right side of his head, showing off the remainder of his undercut on the left in the process-
“♫ BANG YOUR HEAD CLEAN OFF, JUST DO IT!! STOMP YOUR FEET AND CLAP YOUR H-HANDS-!! ♪”
He roughly brushed away a barely formed tear from his right eye, opting to stomp his feet in place of clapping his hands to the beat. He wouldn’t let his pain and trauma cut this moment short. Singing had been his outlet for all his frustrations before, why shouldn’t he try and find out if it would still hold up with the new struggles he was facing?
“♫ I AM A HEAVY METAL GROOVER! - BANG YOUR HEAD ‘CAUSE I HATE TO DANCE! BANG YOUR HEAD ‘CAUSE I HATE TO DANCE! ♪”
Sunkist affectionately pressed herself against Gordon’s side, sensing the man’s wild mix of emotions running through his head. Gordon opted to give Sunkist’s back a pat to assure her that he was doing okay. That he needed to do this. To let this all out.
He took a deep breath-
“♪ So take me away from the dance floor- Nemo saltat sobrius - Well, that's right... fucking right. I've been telling you for far too looooooOOOONG! ♫”
He closed his eyes, his focus now only on putting as much emphasis on the words as he could. As he used to. As Gordon Martini Freeman of the “Black Velvet Rabbits” had been known for.
“♫ I haaaate to disappoint you! But I'm not the guy you need- You can leeeeave, ‘cause to meee- DISCO. DIED. IN. 1983!! ♪”
He spread his arms, his head slightly falling back and his hair following suit… and he could almost feel the comforting heat of spotlights on his skin once more-
“♪ It’s of great importance! This is what yOU. ALL. SHOULD. DOOOOO!- ♫”
He bent back forward, letting himself go off into a poorly executed guitar solo as he headbanged to the beat, his hair flying back and forth, side to side-
“♫ BANG YOUR HEAD CLEAN OFF, JUST DO IT!! STOMP YOUR FEET AND CLAP YOUR HANDS-!! I AM A HEAVY METAL GROOVER! - BANG YOUR HEAD ‘CAUSE I HATE TO DANCE! BANG YOUR HEAD ‘CAUSE I HATE TO DANCE! - BANG THE HEAD THAT DOESN’T BANG!!~ ♪”
Gordon stood there for a moment, out of breath, hair wild and messy, chest heaving and eyes blown wide. He was only pulled back into reality from his post-rockout brain by Sunkist jumping up on him and licking his face-
“Hahaha!! Yeah, this was fun, wasn’t it, big girl?! Thanks for the encouragement, Sunkist. I mean it. I… really needed that.”
He hugged her close before gently letting her get back on all fours, smiling as she let out a soft bark and pressed herself against his side once more, her tail wagging happily-
“Well, I’ll be damned. Sounds like you don’t sound like ass anymore after all!”
Gordon spun around, instantly locking eyes with Bubby, who was leaning against the frame of the closet, arms crossed and a smug smile on his face.
“H-How much of that did you-”
“I heard enough to know that my eardrums can stand the sound of it.”, Bubby answered, “You don’t sound half bad. Obviously out of practice, but… not awful.”
Gordon scratched the back of his neck, trying to process the rare compliment coming from the older scientist.
“Uh… thanks? A-ANYWAY- how’s the pocket dimension going?”, he quickly added to move the topic elsewhere.
Bubby rolled his eyes at Gordon's obvious deflection.
“It could go way faster in my opinion! But the hallway and the basic rooms are stable now. I won’t invite you in without the others agreeing on it too, but… it’s nice. Having your own space to do with as you please, as barren as it might be at the moment-”
In the time Bubby had spoken, Gordon had walked over to him, now resting his hand on the smaller man’s shoulder.
“Hey, I might not have the biggest savings, but that won’t stop me from helping you guys find stuff for your space, okay? I know a few places we could visit sometime this week! But… first I do want to go shopping with you all to let you pick stuff for your wardrobes!”
Bubby stared up to him, a slightly startled look on his face.
“You’ll… let us… pick?”
Gordon smiled softly, hoping it looked reassuring.
“Of course! As long as you all don’t get me into the reds with your purchases, you are free to pick as many things as you want, now that you all have your own space. Honestly… go wild! Did- Do you think I’d limit you? Bubby, you guys are my friends! If anything, I wholeheartedly encourage you to get lost for hours in the nearby thrift stores and find your own style- HURGH!-
Gordon found himself pulled into a tight hug- which only lasted for two seconds.
As Bubby pulled back, he looked away, brows furrowed.
“Thanks. You- you don’t get how much this means to- ...thank you, Gordon.”
“You’re welcome. Uh… should I go get us some food for when you guys are done or-”
“GOD! YES! Fuck off before this moment gets even more awkward!”, Bubby exclaimed with frustration, a hint of a smile tugging on the edge of his mouth.
Gordon threw up his hand in mock defence, not even trying to hide his grin.

My honest, humble, and not-objective-at-all opinion about LORDS OF THE SITH
LORDS OF THE SITH by Paul S. Kemp, published in 2015 (canon)
Real quick plot summary : The Free Ryloth Movement, led by Chad Syndulla, attempts a massive attack on the imperial forces, in hope of killing Darth Vader and the Emperor and strike a fatal blow to the Empire. Things didn't exactly go as planned.
I've FINALLY managed to finished the book, started weeks (months?) ago. Actually, I finished it less than 15 minutes ago. And I really enjoyed it. So why did it took me so long ? I'll go back to that point later.
First of all, let me tell you I didn't exactly found in this book what I expected to find. And in a good way. Judging by the cover and the resume, I was prepared for a book mostly about the Emperor and Vader, but I'd say approximatively half the book is about them directly. (I mean, with the exterior narrator talking about them.) The rest of the book is about Cham and his movement, the Twi'lek rebels, and his relationship with Isval. And Isval was my favorite character in the book, she was really well written and her story is so interesting. Kemp managed to bring so more life in all these secondary characters.
I'll try to be cohesive because since I've just finished the book but begun it long ago, I have to go back to my notes about the first half.
I've loved learning things about the Twi'lek's history and traditions. I finally know why some male twi'leks have sharpen teeth and not female ! (In case you don't know, well, that's tradition. But Isval sharpened hers to show she's a hunter too.)
The whole passage of the book with Isval going downtown to literaly hunt imperials and save prostitutes Twi'leks gave me goosebumps. Definitively not a thing I was expecting in a « Sith Lords » book, but it was awesome, so dark, so shady, I was feeling the unhealthy atmosphere of the district. First I was thinking « Ok, he's suggesting she's a former sexual slave and that this is the kind of district these things happen in. » And then I was like « Ok that's not suggested anymore, that's pretty explicit right now. » I didn't expect a Star Wars book to talk to me about sexual abuse and prostitution, but boy it was so strong and hard to read.
And to be honest, I'm really thankful to Kemp for not being patronizing about it. Isval is not a broken little thing, she's a warrior, she had a really bad time in her life, and now she's fighting to help other girls, and she's fueled by hate.
And about Isval, her relationship with Cham was really touching as well. We kinda see it grows before our eyes, not invading the mission nor polluting their discussions, but slowly showing more and more, from chief to subordinate, friend to friend, freedom fighter to freedom fighter, and finally acknowledging that from the very beginning, they were more than that but never had the opportunity to take their chance.
We'll talk a bit about the Sith side of the book too. It was very enjoyable. Exploring the relation between Vader and the Emperor felt like a force hand tightening your chest. The Emperor is perpetually testing Vader (and everyone else). Everything he does, everything he says, has a purpose. This man isn't tied by the mortal rules of luck and probability. Everything is planned and calculated. And Vader knows it. Every word the Emperor speak has a reason, and Vader is like « What did he mean ? » and then « Ok, that's what he meant. »
Vader having flashes of his past life, his former friends, the Clone Wars, Padmé... Every one was heartbreaking and the Emperor KNOWS it. He used them, to keep Vader hateful, to constantly remind him he's a tool of a greater force, and every sentences he said could have been finished by « So... who's the boss ? ».
He's the boss.
You can feel how strong and inflexible they are, there is so many good descriptions of their strenght and determination.
A bit about the secondary characters : I liked Belkor, he was interesting. I liked seeing how he slowly turn insane through the book, ending up talking to a corpse. He's the opposite of the Emperor, having to constantly change his plans depending on other people or just because of misfortune, being manipulated and mocked, and finally snapping out of his mind because of pressure.
Moff Mors was cool too. I would have love to learn more about her, about her past life, but the little we know about her explains perfectly who she is. I felt a little frustrated by never knowing what happen to her at the end, because I personnaly doubt the Emperor will forgive years of non-interference and laziness (damn she was supposed to handle Ryloth!). It's implicitly said she's redeeming herself, but seriously, Palps, do you even redeem bro ?
My biggest problem with this book can be resumed in one word : LYLEKS. The passage with the Emperor and Vader fighting Lyleks was way way way way too loooooooong. I really felt it like a break in the momentum. And speaking of break, I had mine at this point. Bad luck, but hard weeks of work happened at this moment in my life, I had to put the book down while reading this passage, and it was hard coming back to it. Everytime I was reopening the book and seing the Lyleks everywhere I was like « Nobody got time fo' that ». It was a real let down.
To be honest, it almost felt like this whole passage was added in the book completely artificially. Like Kemp has finished his book and the editor said « Hey man that's a cool book you wrote, but what about more Sith kung-fu fighting ? Like, maybe, 40 pages of it ? »
It felf so weird and useless compared to the rest of the book. So unnatural. And it's the only part of the book where I've found severe incoherences. Vader deigniting his lightsaber two times on the same page (without having turning it on in the meantime), and few pages later the same thing but this time with igniting it. Like this passage was rushed and hadn't been seriously reread and corrected.
This was a serious problem because as soon as I've finished the Lyleks passage, and Vader and Palps were running into the young Twi'lek girl in the forest and then heading toward her village, the tension was back again, the apprehension of what was going to happen next, and everything then come one after another very smoothly and I was trapped again in the suspense.
So WHY ? Why would you stop this so effective momentum with an endless fight when we all know the outcome of the fight ?
This being said, what would be my opinion on Lords of the Sith ?
PRO :
- So much characterization. Every character is unique, even the secondary ones. Every motivation, backstory, personnality is understandable and relatable. That's for me the strongest force of the book.
- A good story. That may sound stupid but it's not. Writing a original story in a so vast universe isn't easy. You can't just repeat things that have aleady been told in another Star Wars media, you have to be creative. In this book the stakes are high for the heroes, but may seems lower on the scale of the galaxy. The whole point is... will it be the case ?
- The suspense. Like I've already said, having appealing secondary characters is a licensed book is super important to keep the suspense. Sure, Palps, Vader and Cham won't die. But you don't know about the other ones. And you care about them. You've learnt to know them, to love them.
CON :
THE LYLEEEEEEEEKS
TO CONLUDE :
A very important book to read. Don't expect to see crazy sith things all the time like you may think you will because of the cover. You'll see some sith shits (like Vader boarding a enemy ship alone in deep space), but that's not what important (yet that's impressive, to say the least). You'll learn about Vader, how he feels, his anger, his neverending pain, you'll learn about life on Ryloth, slavery, humiliation of having your planet under imperial jurisdiction. You'll learn about imperials too, human being working for the Empire, how they feel too, their backstory, how they are not just bad guys in uniform blindly following orders.
That's a very deep book for so many reasons (except Lyleks.)
I hoped you liked this review, I'm sorry about the time it took me to write it down. I may take a break because the next book I'll read won't be a Star Wars book (but a book lended to me by a friend so I have to finished it to give it back).
With the hot days slowly returning I have hope to read more seriously in the times to come, because one thing I enjoy is reading in the sun, but as always I won't make any promises I can't keep. I still have to write some reviews for old books I've read (Dark disciple, Wrath of Darth Maul, Ahsoka...) and still got new books to read (including Bloodline), but they will come in time.
As always, take care of yourself, of your surroundings, and enjoy :) Tagging @maulpunk !

wizardsandlillies replied to your post “How long have you been listening to kpop?”
This is wild to me- I was living in South Korea at about that time (because my parents were in the military, I'm not Korean) and I was very unaware of kpop or anything else at the time. It wasn't until about five years ago that I discovered it lol.
Loooooooong after we moved back to the US, I should mention-we were only in South Korea for maybe 2-3 years. I still have the hanbok that was given to my family as a gift though!
When I say that I’ve been listening to kpop longer than many of my followers have been alive... i’m not joking. I’ve been actively listening to and following kpop since the first generation of idols. My interest would have peaks and valleys and there were times when I was deeply involved with fandoms and blogs and shows and other times when I would only occasionally check in to see if any songs of interest had been released. It boggles my mind to see how much the idol industry has completely taken over kpop. Idol groups were rarely the artists who interested me the most in the early days but Big Bang changed that. Looking at that video of HOT doing Candy reminds me that often when you saw an idol wearing a hat that covered their hair, it was because Korean broadcasters wouldn’t allow dyed hair to be shown because it might corrupt the youth. Seriously, just getting highlights in your hair meant having to wear a beanie for tv performances.
Back in the earliest days, when there was virtually no english language media on kpop and Youtube hadn’t been invented yet, I used to scour the internet looking for Korean American blogs or chat rooms where they discussed this stuff. Just so I could learn. I often couldn’t pronounce the names of the groups or songs I liked, much less understand what they were singing about. One of the blogs I used to go back to a lot was just the personal blog of this Korean American medical student who liked to talk about the artists and shows she enjoyed and she used to complain about how the growing popularity of the blog was interfering with her studies and would threaten to stop blogging. She went by the name of Soompi.
And it all happened by pure accident. If I had stayed in bed like I was supposed to, I might never have become a kpop fan.
#wizardsandlillies#blah blah blah#gather round kids - grandma Noona has a story for you#I've seen enough over the years to tell you that BTS is truly special#and their popularity was absolutely part of the evolution of kpop over the years#but it was also not an accident that BTS was the group the truly kicked the doors open#I really thought 2NE1 would be the first to make it big in the US#but YG thoroughly fucked that up#there have always been talented kpop artists who had the chance to make a splash in the west#but I honestly believe it's been the agencies and the hubris of the company execs that ruined it for most groups#they all wanted things to work in the US the way they do in Korea#and they all believed they could understand the US consumer best#sing it in English and slap some half ass feature from an American rapper#so they manufactured what they thought Americans wanted#and when it didn't go to 1 immediately they bailed#Big Hit and BTS were the first to build their success off of the existing interest from i-fans#they just did what their international fanbase was already enjoying but made the content more easily accessible#that way they built tremendous loyalty in the niche market#and then grew to dominate that niche kpop international market#which then made it impossible for others to ignore them#only now is BTS doing a song in English#trying to break the final barrier - US radio play#I hope those greedy dumb asses in Radio give BTS the chance they so richly deserve#but I don't know

Act 1: Sayu -- Sailor Ningyo
{I finally finished the first part of Sailor Sayu!! I’ll be writing this like how the Sailor Moon Crystal episodes go and how it mirrors the manga! I don’t have AO3 atm but eventually I’ll put it up there too. Anyways~ happy reading~!} --Kasterisk
The sound of an immensely loud phone alarm erupted throughout the house, completely shattering the serenity of the morning. After a few minutes of ringing, a sleepy hand sluggishly dragged its way across to press the "off" option. A voice from the downstairs called out once silence was regained. "Heyyy! You better be getting ready for school up there or else you're going to be late!" Of course this would fall on deaf ears as a sleepy figure slowly rose up from the cutely decorated bed sheets. Upon closer inspection, the drowsy figure was revealed to be a young girl with messy white hair. She blinked her vibrant eyes awake in her sleepy daze. "What time is it...?" She mumbled, glancing over at her phone. Grasping it she opened up the home screen to see...uh-oh. "Oh no! I really am going to be late again!" She exclaimed, throwing the covers off her body in a hurry.
Who exactly was this girl that was warned of being late? Well, the answer is simple. This is Sayu, a sixteen year-old teen who's attending her tenth grade year in high school. Unfortunately, her attendance record never seemed to be pleasant, given that she was throwing on her uniform haphazardly every morning. She thundered down the stairs hurriedly, not even eating breakfast before she was already out the door. "I have to go now bye-byeeeeee!!" The woman that was her caretaker sighed softly while she watched the young girl dash down the street. "I swear with that girl..." She lightly laughed, adjusting her glasses to read the latest news report about the current fixation of a beautiful heroine in Vinyl City.
"I'm going to be in trouble again!" Sayu whined while sprinting as fast as her legs could carry her. She couldn't get herself out of trouble knowing that her teachers would scold her for being late more frequently these days. However, due to not paying attention in front of her, she felt her footing slip and immediately hit the concrete. "O-Ow..." She rubbed her head in pain before looking behind her to see what made her trip. Wait, was that a cat?! A wave of guilt immediately washed over her as she leapt upwards, scooping the cat into her arms. "Oh no I'm so sorry little kitty! I didn't see you there!" She apologized to the animal with teary eyes. Yet, the cat didn't seem to be so focused on the injury, instead it was scratching at the objects placed upon its head. 'Huh...that's strange. Why would a cat need band-aids?' She thought with a puzzled expression. The cat seemed to be very bothered by them...maybe she should take them off?
Apprehensively she undid the band-aids by peeling them off the cat's fur. Yet, as soon as she did, the cat quickly leapt away from her and onto a wall. Sayu turned her head to see the cyan-colored creature staring right back at her. When she looked at the cat's forehead she was met with the sight of a golden music note right where the band-aids were. "That's one strange birthmark..." She whispered, mesmerized by the cat's gaze. Suddenly, the sound of the school bell went off around the area, quickly snapping Sayu from her trance. "Wait!! I'm almost there please don't count me as late!!" Sayu shouted, running towards the school gates in a futile attempt to be there on time. She shouldn't have gotten so distracted with that cat and now she was going to be in even more trouble!
And she was exactly right. Upon setting foot into her classroom, she was immediately sent back into the hall by her teacher who was fuming at her. "Oh my...late again...and I promised that I would get better at that!" She lamented as she stood alone. Not too long after, Sayu received her lecture from her teacher as well as her last test grade. Needless to say, her grades were also in need of a desperate spruce up. Even her classmates and friends were having a much better time with their schooling than she was. Though, if you asked her personally, she would tell you that she wasn't exactly so focused on school like how she should. After all, she wanted to make relationships with her peers and have tons and tons of friends! It was a simple wish she had ever since she was little.
Come lunchtime, Sayu sat with her peers as they talked about their various topics and interests. "So have you heard about that music store that got robbed that one time? Well, turns out that Sailor E was the one who saved it. Ironically, that same store is having a sale after all the hoopla." Sayu's classmate, Gigi informed the group. This made the white haired girl perk up in interest. "Really? Sailor E is always doing good things for other people!" She replied, slipping some shellfish into her mouth. Another girl then stood up as she posed dramatically to likely fantasize about the ordeal. "We just have to go down there! Can you imagine all the songs and music styles we could have if we go?" "Of course you'd be the most excited, Celine." Sayu giggled happily while the others joined in laughter. Lunchtime eventually ended and so the students went back to finish the rest of their day.
Later on that afternoon, the group did end up going to the music store that Gigi mentioned. They all stared and fawned over the seemingly endless amounts of records and big brand instruments...and apparently so did all the adults! In fact there were so many people there it became hard to even get in. Sayu sighed, glancing down at her test that she held in her hands. There was zero chance that she would get anything nice with such a bad score like that. Maybe next time she could get a better score in order to get cool music stuff like the others? "I can't show Miss Barbara this...she'll be super duper mad that I flunked!" She said as she folded up the paper and tossed it away from her. Though instead of landing it into a trashcan, she ended up hitting someone behind her with it! "Hey-- my gorgeous face isn't a trashcan!"
"Huh--?" Sayu turned around to see where the voice was coming from and was met with the figure of a guy. He had white hair almost exactly like her own, including a few strands that seemed to stand alone like her cowlick. His eyes were a vivid white with black sclerae, and his body seemed to be...mechanical? Well it wasn't that strange given that there were tons and tons of different people these days. If anything, Sayu found it incredibly neat! Although, the tuxedo he was wearing kind of gave her the thought of a grandiose party to be attended.
A moment of silence passed between the two as they kept staring at each other. About five minutes had passed and the stranger broke eye contact with her to look at the folded up piece of paper. "Wait please don't-!!" But it was too late for Sayu's plea as the other was witness to the dreadful test score. "Wow, a 30 point test grade? You really should study more often, maybe I could tutor you?" He chuckled with a grin on his face. Sayu blinked her eyes at him, stunned. 'How mean!!!' She thought angrily in her head and quickly snagged the test away from him. "You're so mean! You don't need to look at that!!" She retorted, running away from the tuxedo wearing male. He watched her dash away from sight...though it appeared that his attention was drawn towards the bustling music shop. "...Maybe I will find what I'm looking for here." A mutter left his lips for no one else to hear.
However, to both parties, neither would know of the nefarious plot festering inside the store by the salesperson at this very minute. 'I'll collect all the minds of these people to only support the power of rock, and soon our takeover will begin.' It thought quietly while it watched the citizens browse and buy almost every record the store had. Little did it know though, one purple haired girl seemed to be quite nosy about where all these special items were being stored...
Meanwhile with the now downtrodden Sayu, she still dwelled on the horrible test she had. She needed to desperately distract herself from what just happened with that...who even was he anyway? He could surely use some more kindness in his life that's for sure. Walking along she managed to catch sight of the local arcade, one of her favorite places to be in. She always favored the bright colors, the hues the building gave off, and how much fun others were having. In a way it was like her home away from home. As she stepped inside, her face instantly lit up when she saw her favorite worker. "Zam!! Hi hi!" She waved rapidly to greet the bearded man. The said man looked over to see his favorite customer with the same energy she had. "Sayu! Just gotten out of school for the day? Are you here to play your favorite game again?" He asked, rustling the girl's hair. Sayu burst into a fit of giggles as she nodded her head in response. Zam then pointed to the DDR game in the middle of the machines. "Lucky for you, you're the only one really here today so you can go crazy as much as you want!" It didn't take more than a second before Sayu was already turning on the game and stretching her legs. When she had time to play, she liked to dance and even sing some of the songs provided by the arcade game. Zam watched the young girl dance around with enough energy to power up a whole house, still smiling. She was his favorite customer by far, he even cheered for her to get new high scores when she played.
Sayu ended up spending hours upon hours playing the game until her feet nearly gave out. Time really flies when you're having fun, huh? The girl hopped off the dance machine, a yawn leaving her lips. "I should go home, it's been a loooooooong day." She said softly while picking up her stuff. "Alright, be careful on the way back! And don't forget-- hm? Now what do we have here?" A sudden meow sounded through the arcade, gaining the attention of the worker and customer. Once they peered over a counter Sayu gasped with surprise. It was the strange kitty cat again! "It's the cat from this morning! Hello Miss Kitty, I hope you're not mad at me for earlier!"
'Huh…' Zam scratched his head lightly with a puzzled look, gently knocking his headphones. "This cat has been lingering around here for a few days, not sure why though." He explained to Sayu. The cat in question stared deeply at the girl as soon as she laid eyes on her. Sayu in turn really wanted to play with it but she really needed to be heading home. "Sorry kitty but I can't come play with you, I gotta go home! I'll see you tomorrow Zam, bye!!!" She waved farewell to the man and the mysterious cat, quickly exiting the building.
Whilst she made her way home, in another part of town a crime was happening. That very same store that she visited earlier that day was being ransacked by the very salesperson who was running it. "I have enough power to take back to home base, I shall keep looking for the important disc here." The robotic drone spoke as it searched and made a mess of the main sales floor. As it searched, a creaking noise resonated inside the large room, making it obvious that someone else was present. "Woah...what is all...huh?" The robot eerily turned to Celine, who really showed up at the wrong place at the wrong time. The girl didn't have much time to run before she was caught in a scuffle for her life.
Albeit while that was happening, Sayu had finally returned home for the evening. She of course had to tell her caretaker about the test score...in which she did indeed get a big lecture about it. Completely worn from the lecture and all the events from today, Sayu flopped onto her bed from exhaustion. "I'll get my homework done...another time..." Her words slurred as she soon drifted off to sleep. The girl curled up in her bedsheets, completely immersed into her dreamstate. As she sunk deeper into her dreams, she found herself in an odd setting. She was fighting against what appeared to be a monster of sorts, using crazy signal moves as if she was in a video game. To make matters weirder, the same cat with the weird birthmark from before was just up ahead, trapped in a cage! 'Wow, this reminds me of...the game at the arcade! Wait, am I...?' She pieced the dream together as she used powers that activated just like how her favorite game operated. Using her dream powers she ended up defeating the monster and saving the cat. As she moved forward, she soon realized that she couldn't exactly feel her legs move. 'What--?' She glanced down slowly at her lower half, only to discover that she no longer had legs! Before she could get out another question, she was instantly reawakened by the sensation of something scratching her face.
"Owie!! Where did that--" "Ooh, you're finally awake! And by the way, it's not a birthmark." Turning her face to the right side of her bed, Sayu was met with the small figure perched on the window...which was revealed to be a cat. The same exact cat she had seen multiple times, only this time with a large pink hat. She was even wearing a pair of cute pink sunglasses! Wait a second, did that cat just talk?! "I have been looking everywhere for you, Sayu! My name is Daphne, and you have been chosen to become a sailor guardian!" She said happily, all the while Sayu sat astounded. A sailor guardian? What was that?? Was she still dreaming right now??? "Y'know I didn't expect kids from this planet to use their time like that to bully a cat. How rude of them." Daphne continued with a slightly annoyed tone, "Oh but I have to thank you so much for removing those band-aids they put on me. When they were on, I couldn't tell which way I was going nor where to find the chosen one. So once again, thanks a bunch sweetheart."
Sayu couldn't believe what was happening right now. There was a talking cat, in her bedroom, telling her it's her magical destiny to become some kind of guardian. If that wasn't extremely dreamlike that she didn't know what to tell you. "...And I'm not dreaming, right? You really mean it?!" She asked, a look of eagerness in her eyes. Daphne giggled at the girl's question and removed something from her hat. Out of the hat came a sparkling (yet very unusual) golden brooch, decorated in symbols and gemstones. "This is now yours, Sayu. Please take it!" She insisted for the girl to try it on. Sayu gently picked up the item and placed it over her school ribbon."Oh my gosh, Daphne this is so pretty! Thank you so much!" She thanked the cat, almost forgetting about the bizarreness of the situation.
Daphne then cleared her throat as she observed the girl move around. "Now listen to me, Sayu. There have been strange things going on in Vinyl City, stuff that the police can't figure out. Your mission is to find your allies who will aid you on the quest to defeat your enemies! Another task of your mission is to find and protect the princess and--" She wasn't able to continue her explanation before the pendant Sayu put on began to glow brightly. "Daphne, it's glowing!! What should I do?" "Alright, repeat after me!! As loud as you can, say 'Pyun Prism Power!'" Sayu took a minute to remember the words and took a deep breath. Raising her hand high, she put in all the passion that she could. "PYUN PRISM POWER, MAKE UP!!"
In what appeared to be a powerful whirlwind, Sayu felt her body become encased in ribbons and light. She felt a surge of power rushing through her body as she let the magic of the brooch complete the transformation. Her body became weightless like she was turning into a bunch of feathers dancing in the wind. Seconds later, the light dissipated and she was set back down to the floor with a new sensation gripping her mind. "W-What happened? I feel so different!" She stuttered with outright confusion, glancing down at her outfit. Though the shock from the outfit was the least of her problems when she looked past the skirt, a gasp following suit! "I-- I have a-- I have a TAIL! Oh my gosh oh my gosh oh my gosh!!" She squealed with sheer excitement as she moved her new fins around the room. It was as if she was an actual, real mermaid. She could move through the air so effortlessly like she was directly underwater; this was all too good to be true! Daphne smiled at the new guardian who seemed to be just as eager to take on this new destiny like she was.
Alas, the time for joyous celebration was cut short by the abrupt beeping of Sayu's hair ornaments. "Huh? What's that?" She quizzed as she tried to focus on the origin of the noise. It didn't take her long before she realized that she could hear the familiar voice of her friend Celine, screaming in fear! "That's Celine! She's in trouble, I have to help her Daphne!" She cried as Daphne nodded her head. Surprisingly enough, Sayu was able to move rather well in her new form even if it was her first time transforming. Quickly making way out of the house undetected, the duo rushed to the scene where Celine was currently fighting for her life. The fashionista girl felt the air leaving her lungs as she tried to desperately escape the grasp of the rock-aligned fiend. "L-Let go of m-me!!" This made the mechanical being squeeze her tighter. "You just had to show up at the wrong time, foolish girl. Now just go ahead and--" The robot's threat would go unfinished as the doors to the store flew open! "Let her go, you evil person!!"
The drone slowly turned its attention to the doorway, catching the sight of the young mermaid clad in a stylish sailor fuku. "Who the hell are you?!" It screeched, stopping the strangulation on the other girl. Sayu stopped for a moment, realizing that she didn't even have a name for her superhero self. 'Oh I should've thought of something when I was getting ready! Ummm...' Daphne glanced over at Sayu and then pointed to her shimmering multi-colored tail. This gave the mermaid an eureka moment as she posed dramatically! "For love and for justice, I am the pretty sailor-soldier: Sailor Ningyo! And in the name of Love, I'll punish you!!" She declared, the moonlight behind her illuminating her form. Regardless of her powerful speech, the drone was not impressed with the new super heroine. "Sailor Ningyo? There is no knowledge of you in my systems. No matter, awaken minions, arise for your dark lord and kill this troublemaker!!" It didn't take long until the store was completely surrounded by those who became brainless zombies due to the power of rock hypnotism. Sayu glanced to her left and her right, dodging all the attacks the hypnotized citizens made in order to end her life. "You have to fight back Sailor Ningyo!" Daphne shouted but Sayu was still struggling in dodging all the blows. "I don't know what to do!! Oh-- U-Um-- maybe--" As she became even more surrounded, the girl took in another deep breath while closing her eyes. "LOVE LOVE SAYU PYUUUUUUUUUUUN!!!"
The frequency of Sayu's voice was so ear piercing that she shattered the glass windows around her, deafening her opponent in the process. The brainwashed people collapsed to the ground thanks to the sound waves she produced in the cutesy attack. "Nicely done Sailor Ningyo!!" Sayu heard an unfamiliar voice cheer but she didn't have time to search for the source as Daphne leapt beside her. "Now's your chance, Sayu! Throw your tiara and shout 'Pyun Tiara Boomerang'!!" Tapping the golden tiara on her forehead, Sayu watched it transform into a glowing spinning disc in the palm of hand. Raising her arm backward she aimed it directly at the enemy and let it fly! "Pyun Tiara Boomerang!!" In one swift hit the tiara slashed straight through the robot, rendering it to a pile of nuts and bolts on the floor. "I did it!! Wait, it was a robot??" There were so many questions that bounced around Sayu's mind about this whole scenario entirely. Truly, what was going on? "Well, it appears I won't be finding the disc here, but at least I saw something to stifle my breath for a little while." The same voice from earlier caught Sayu's attention once again as she looked up to the windows.
A masked figure clad in what she would describe as "phantom thief" attire leaped into the air towards the outside. His cape blew into the wind in his grand exit like it represented the night sky. He gazed back at her, a soft smile adorning his features. "I'll give you my name to remember. My name is Tuxedo White, it's been an honor to meet you Sailor Ningyo~!" His tone was ever-so charming and friendly, making her feel comforted somehow. Maybe he was her ally too? She sure hoped so, he looked like he was definitely against the bad guys! ...Though, was he actually here the whole time before she even got here? Instinctively she swam her way out of the store to catch a glimpse of the masked man one last time before he dashed away into the night. Daphne at this moment looked over all the unconscious people that were waking up from their hypnosis. It was a good thing the first battle went well...though, this was only the beginning. "I hope you're ready for more battles in the future, Sayu. This is only the first fight and-- dear are you listening to me?" With a sigh the cat tugged on Sayu's arm, pulling her away from the scene whilst the girl kept daydreaming about what more was to come!
The next day at school, Sayu listened to Celine gossip and retell the events of that night. "And just when I thought I was going to be done for, a mermaid wearing a sailor suit beat up the bad guys! And did I mention she looked so adorable doing it? Cuteness kills! Oh but I didn't get to really see her face…" She shouted, almost exasperated. The others around her gave her a questionable look. "You sure you weren't dreaming it like that time you dreamt about Sailor E?" Kayane asked with a confused look on her face. This in turn made Celine furious as she claimed it to be true. Sayu throughout the story smiled away with a newfound giddiness. She couldn't believe that she did all that! Who knows what adventures lie ahead of her and her new friend Daphne? And would she see that mysterious Tuxedo White again? The possibilities were endless!
...Still, somewhere far away from her school and the planet, a figure was replaying the events from last night. "Sailor Ningyo...she's got some nerve to get in the way of the plan." The figure muttered as a smirk formed on his metallic face. "Whatever, it won't stop me from getting that Legendary Disc. No matter what it takes." He spoke with the air of malice and determination, a pair of red eyes fading away into darkness.

i don’t usually do this but i feel Compelled to do a liveblog/review of Mouth Dreams so here goes
Please don’t read this if you haven’t heard the album yet as it’ll spoil Everything
(i’ll admit the idea came to me After i listened to Just a Baby so these first ones are gonna be relistened reviews)
first we got Yahoo. what can i say about this song? neil starts off Strong with incredibly sustained notes and just one phrase, in typical neil style. and he makes it work in so many different ways! honestly didn’t expect myself to get so attached so fast but that’s just the way his magic works ig. when the hoooooooos harmonise it almost brings tears to the eyes. i would love to see a group of choristers singing this with another guy on an electric keyboard. what a cold open. 9/10
of course then we go on to the titular track, the dimension of sound, the dimension of imagination, the dimension of doors. rod serling narrates the intro in his traditional monotone as the warbling twilight zone theme plays in the background. i tell ya i was actually Screaming when the track finished and he dropped the title! it may not be a song per se, sort of like Blockbuster from Mouth Moods, a ‘filler track’ if you will, but the effort in those fifty seconds cannot be ignored. it just goes to show once again how Good he is at what he does. 6.5/10
oh lawd, my favourite so far, Spongerock. reading the title i had absolutely No idea what to expect. the goofy goober song from the movie? winner takes all from band geeks? i was pleasantly surprised to find myself tapping out queen’s distinctive boom boom CLAP as the song progressed, and i was in complete Hysterics the whole way through, chanting along with the kids as the pirate encouraged me to sing louder. it’s such a beautiful fit the way they mesh together, and it’s one of those mashups that you listen to and think ‘why has nobody done this before?’ but neil is on a higher plane of existence than us and Knows where it’s at. you’re never the same after you’ve listened to Spongerock. 7.5/10
Just a Baby, where i stopped to begin this thing, is a melancholy song, which i’m not usually a fan of. i admit i don’t know the original song so i kept quiet until the last chorus or two. it’s the yang to the yin of Wow Wow from Moods, another sentence-mixer that was like a full Bop and barely gave you time to catch your breath. in Just a Baby you begin to empathise with the singer as he regales confusing times of his constant youth, including the time his mother (a train) shot a man in cold blood. it’s a powerful ballad, and it’s got a tasteful amount of justin bieber adding backing vocals to the chorus. i may have to deduct a few points cos the lyrics are gonna be hard af to remember. 7/10
ok next up we got Superkiller. this one’s totally blind! i’m. ehhhhh okay not diggin this one very much. ok that say something once line being repeated was comedy gold but talking heads are just like. kinda tuneless tbh. i’m glad he’s trying to lassoo it together with u can’t touch this but it’s kinda falling short tbh. i wouldn’t skip it but it’s not as memorable as the previous ones. 5/10
starting Get Happy. i’m not gonna lie i think i Know what this is, there are only so many options after all. i predict it’s a mix of “get dancin’” by disco-tex and the sex-o-lettes and “happy” by bahrrel williams, and i really hope that ain’t the case cos i Love the first one but despise the latter. oh well let’s see if he can pull it off. sounds like village green by the kinks so far lol uhhhh i have no idea what to make of this. okay i feel like i’m gonna like this after all. hey it’s got memorable lyrics at least! is it gonna get faster? or just more bassy? yknow maybe i was too critical at the start, but i had no idea what to expect. this is a feel-good pop song and it’s definitely making me feel happier than i was when i was listening to Superkiller. 7/10
Ribs? wtf do i expect from a song called Ribs lmao another song i’ve never heard of IH IT’S EVERYBODY WANTS TO RULE TH WORLD OH YEEEEEEEEES omg i Love this song i sing it to myself when i’m walkin my dog cos his little paws click-clack on the pavement to the exact rhythm of the song omg i’m in Love! another one with odd lyrics but i think after a Lot of repeat listening i’ll be able to properly croon along to this one omg! it reminds me of Best from Mouth Silence in that they’re both about products, only instead of folgers in your cup it’s about chili’s baby back ribs omg neil you’re Perfect! how come more advertisers haven’t contacted you for a product placement deal?? 7.5/10
next we got My Mouth. welcome to? who knows let’s hit play. ooooh minor key. is this a real song? it sounds like oney singing a cover of something. oh That’s the gimmick? 2:30 long i hope there’s something else tbh cos otherwise it’s gonna get pretty thin pretty fast. mm not a fan. the weakest so far imo especially after Ribs blew me away. definitely a bad dream. 3.5/10
Aerolong don’t fail me now! okay see This is how you do a mashup. I DON’T MISS YOU BABAY AND I DO WANNA MISS A THING THAT’S GOLD!! this is just a song about saying bye to your ex lmao i love it. wish it was longer though. 6/10
Sleepin’ here we go! ok in the youtube version the first half of this song is just silence so that wasn’t fun. gee this one’s only moderately better than My Mouth i’m feeling very shortchanged. 4/10
what to expect from Aamoorree? hopefully this one’s another jam but...okay i’m likin this one. it’s Fun and isn’t trying too hard! it’s just a drunk dean martin singing about pizza pie on karaoke night, what more could you ask for lol. 6/10
Where Is My Mom? by the p-p-p-pooo-oo-ooo-oooool of course. i don’t recognise the other song but it’s decent. i’ve listened to slowed-down songs before (the sludgefest chipmunks albums lately) and this one’s kinda ok. not a fan of the ending but points for effort ig. 5.5/10
Fredhammer ay? might there be some peter gabriel in there? undoubtedly. yup there it is lol ok now bring in the flintstones? oh ig that’s fred durst? mm not totally feeling it so far but censoring he** was funny lmao HEY THERE’S SEINFELD i’m wheezin that was a good way to end a song, well done neil. 6.5/10
here goes Limp Wicket. i’m on the edge of my seat. and Again i’m disappointed. is this a bunch of ewoks singing some kind of star wars song? or is it jarjar? either way this is Not a good song. it probably wasn’t before he mashed it up but this wasn’t an improvement. bringing in Fredhammer didn’t help this song much at all, in fact i think it brought both songs down actually. last one was a 7/10 but i Have to dock it points now that it’s a two-parter. as for this one? i’m being generous cos the limp bizkit song was good. 1/10
Cannibals runs for 4 minutes. PLEASE don’t let this be a repeat of the last one. i get that miners can’t dig up gold every time but don’t just show up with a bunch of rocks and iron pyrites yknow i’m just gonna start. i don’t want to be angry at this album. i recognise that sound in the bg! from a cyriak vid i think. thx comin in. loooooooong drone. ugh UGH there are Too many lucid dreams on this album. starting to regret liveblogging this cos i Loved the other three mouth albums. this one’s just falling flat again and again. 3/10
here comes The Outsiders. there is NOTHING to say about this. 1.5/10
come on Johnny. okay that got a laugh out of me, not many songs start with a booing crowd like that, is that meta? wouldn’t put it past him tbh. ah i’ll give it a 5/10, for a kinda filler song it wasn’t too bad.
Closerflies, this has gotta be gold. PLEASE. intro’s goin on for a little too long...mm having never heard the original version of closer i gotta admit i thought it’d be faster, like the one used in Rollercloser in Silence. this version seems very sloppy and sluggish, especially the bassline. 3/10
Nightmovin’ i’m not expecting much OH good intro oh YES now here we go. this is a good one, it’s got clear lyrics and a catchy tune, i’m liking this one more and more by the second. cuts off weird but it’s going into the next one. so i’m gonna leave the rating out of this one and see how it is after the next one.
Whitehouse i’m holding my breath. mm it’s Good but not great tbh. criminal that the last one was half as long as this one. think i’m gonna give both of these songs a 5/10 i doubt they’ll be anyone’s favourites. the title is a nice little joke too i respect that.
Wah! what’s neil’s obsession with using wannabe as a source lmao! it’s another decent one but nothing memorable again. 5/10
Pee Wee Inc i’m expecting big things. good intro I’M IN LOVE okay this is Much better than i imagined it’d be. did he use the radio edit of feel good inc? this is a heck of a way to bring it back to the gold stuff and i wouldn’t be surprised if this is what neil’s head sounds like all the time. 7/10
on to 10,000 Spoons. not sure what to expect from the title. okay this is a Nice one i think. throwback to the likes of Just a Baby with the two songs and the sentence mixing and it’s Good. and really 10,000 spoons is So ironic anyway, don’t you think? 7/10
oh another song called Mouth Dreams? an extro? that was Weird lol ok the intro i wasn’t too keen on, def not as much as the intro, but i got to appreciate it as it went on. like Rlly appreciate it i was beginning to reflect on what a journey i’d been through tonight, especially writing it all down. felt very poetic. and then WHAM, out of nowhere, after being gone for 23 songs, all-star came Back and How! gotta give this one a 7.5/10
keep the train rolling Brithoven! i can hear faint bits of instruments in britney’s song in the back of her audio which sound like a mistake but knowing neil.......yah lmao. this song’s kinda like Promenade (Satellite Pictures at an Exhibition) from Mouth Sounds, i liked what i heard. very nice. 6.5/10
the final song. we’re gonna be hit one more time for Ain’t! and i have NO idea what i’m in for! in the hall of the mountain king eh? is this like a way of looping around to the first song of the first album with classical music? ok the snoring’s a nod to Bustin i’m sure lmao funny anyway. i thought i heard a hey now in there but i must be going nuts. wouldn’t call it a grand finale but it is what it is. 5/10
now the question that must be asked - was Mouth Dreams trying to make a point? was there a reasons so many songs were of lower-quality than previous albums? perhaps it’s just a matter of taste, or perhaps it’s as rod said back on track two, that this album is a doorway into another dimension, and the further you progress, the more mind-rattling, brain-melting concepts you come across. the album gets an average of 5.5 which is kinda disappointing. don’t think i’ll be listening to the whole thing again. thanks for reading!

Sorry for being inactive!!
Hi everyone! It’s been a loooooooong time since I last updated here. I haven’t really been checking or using Tumblr as much especially since I haven’t continued Myu in a while. Just to clarify, I haven’t lost interest nor am I planning to “leave the fandom” or anything. I’m still going to try to make reviews and I still have group covers I’m going to be doing with friends. It’s just that Myu isn’t my focus at the moment.
I started (online) school this month so I’ve been less active on almost, if not all my social media. I don’t really have the attention span to watch anime and much more so a Myu so it may take a really long while for me to start watching again. If you still wanna see posts/content from me (though it won’t be much), I suggest you follow me on my Instagram @/the_artwheeler or my Twitter @/naruseiiii . I’m probably “most active” there than anywhere else.
I’m sorry I always have to make posts like this and having to repeat the same points all the time. This blog/my Myu reviews were and kinda still are my passion projects. It was something new to me and has helped me in many ways (making the blog and writing reviews). I spent so much of my time here a few years ago and made so many memories and I really miss those times. This blog still holds a place in me and I always feel bad whenever I think about how long I’ve left it so dead. Trust me, I will come back here once my life isn’t as complicated and complex as it is at the moment.
If you made it this far, thank you for reading and thank you for your continued support of this blog! :—) 💕

Even with no expectations set, this moment exceeded all of them.
When dreaming about this day as the date neared closer and closer, Dazai thought standing at the altar would shred his nerves and ruin his day. He thought the mask he’d forced himself to put on would sour everyone’s mood as they lamented his inability to show his true emotions. But, under the gaze of the Armed Detective Agency- his coworkers- his friends- Dazai didn’t fidget or shy away. When he was joined at the altar by a brightly smiling Atsushi, who’s light rivaled the sun as it filtered through the thin canopy above them, Dazai had no problem returning the gesture and hoping it came close to what he was given.
-
“Are you sure this is what you want, Atsushi?” Dazai asked countless times under the cover of darkness, half-hoping his betrothed would be asleep. He always asked too quickly, as his fear of the answer ate at him too persistently, and Atsushi always answered.
“Of course I’m sure, Dazai-san,” He answered. “Why wouldn’t I want someone as handsome and smart as you?”
These answers did little to calm Dazai’s nerves. “But…there are plenty of other smart and handsome guys out there. You deserve someone who won’t drag you down, someone you don’t have to keep watch over-”
“If my husband starts to fall, I sure hope he’ll try to drag me down so I can use his grip on me to pull him back up,” Atsushi interrupted. “And keeping watch over you just gives me a reason to be closer to you.”
Atsushi often told him that he always knew what to say, Dazai knew it was really the other way around.
-
Dazai hadn’t planned on how fidgety he’d be during the actual ceremony. He wanted to bounce his knees, play with Atsushi’s fingers, or reach out and play with his hair. Ever the one to overthink, Atsushi would most likely think he was nervous, though, or uncomfortable- or worse, having second thoughts. For a brief second, an image of a crestfallen Atsushi as he allowed himself to think Dazai would leave him at the altar flashed through Dazai’s mind. A gentle squeeze at his hands pulled him back in, revealing Atsushi with his head tilted and a confused look on his face. He was still smiling, glowing in a happiness Dazai still couldn’t be convinced was given by him, though the way his eyebrows furrowed asked that one terrifying question: are you okay?
Dazai gulped, a million thoughts flashing through his mind. No, not really. I feel like I’m going to throw up, or ruin this whole ceremony, or fail you and make you regret ever committing yourself to me. Please, please don’t leave me, I- He cut himself off before he could spiral too far and gave Atsushi a slight nod, flashing a smile he hoped looked as genuine as he felt. Those wrinkles on his forehead didn’t smooth out, though, and Dazai detested the thought of Atsushi having his big day sullied by Dazai’s wandering mind. Screw it. It’s my wedding too, he thought before lifting one of Atsushi’s hands to his lips and gently pressing a kiss to his knuckles. From the guests, he could hear Naomi squeal for a split second before a hand smacked over her mouth, most likely Tanizaki’s. When Dazai lowered their hands back between them, brushing his thumb over the spot he kissed, he allowed his smile to soften. That was enough to ease Atsushi, who returned the gesture. God, that was a smile he would gladly-
-live for.
-
Atsushi placed another sticker on the chart hanging on their fridge, an endearing idea he had invented to keep Dazai in line. The rules were simple: every time Dazai got his work done on time (or within an hour of overtime), properly vocalized his feelings, or kept his pestering of Kunikida to a minimum (a much more realistic request than not bothering the man at all, much to Atsushi’s partial dismay), he got a sticker. The more important the task, the bigger and shinier the sticker was. However, every misbehavior got stickers revoked.
Though Dazai would never admit it, he hated watching Atsushi peel the stickers off the paper and flick them off in the trash: whether it was because he somehow got attached to the stickers like a child or because he hated the pensive expression on Atsushi’s face as he did it, he didn’t know.
In a month’s time, he had racked up quite an impressive collection, stars, hearts and smiley faces covering the paper in a testament to his good behavior. Atsushi struggled to fit the next sticker in the collage, the awkward shape and size of the cat’s head overlapping other stickers. His tongue peeked out through his lips as he tried to find a clear space until Dazai got bored of the display.
“Atsushi-kun, I’ve got a much better idea. Why don’t you just put it on my face? Right here,” he suggested, pointing at his nose and going cross-eyed, hoping his mild theatrics would draw Atsushi’s attention. Instead, Atsusi sighed and straightened up, rubbing the bottom of his back.
“No, this one’s important,” Atsushi argued, finally deciding on where to place the sticker. The ear overlapped a star, but he waved his hand to brush it off and walked over to Dazai.
“Oh? What’s it for?” Dazai asked, leaning back in the chair and allowing Atsushi to bend over him instead. He didn’t miss a beat when Atsushi’s lips found his, moving his lips against his eagerly and reaching a hand to his waist. With a little pressure, he eased Atsushi to place his knees beside his hips, holding onto him as if he’d float away. The cheap chair groaned beneath them, and Dazai was glad he’d gotten Atsushi out of the habit of shying away at the slightest sound.
When Atsushi pulled himself away, Dazai fought the urge to chase after him and forget about the rest of their agenda- Kunikida should expect allowing the pair to take a long lunch break would end in a half day of work for them and an extended one for him. He resisted, though, and trailed one hand down Atsushi’s arm, intertwining their fingers once he reached his hand.
“The sticker? Well, uh…” Atsushi’s tongue poked at the side of his cheek as he chose his words. “You’ve just…been much more enthusiastic about being alive. I figured you deserved an extra fancy sticker for that.”
“So my life is only worth a sticker to you, huh?” Atsushi immediately opened his mouth to protest, eyes going wide. He backed himself up so fast he nearly tipped himself off the chair, saved only by Dazai wrapping his arms around him and pulling him back. “I’m messing with you, Atsushi. No need to start a fuss. Still, I wonder what it could be that caused such a drastic change in my behavior, hm?”
He connected their fingers again, this time pulling their hands up to eye-level and twisting their hands this way and that. In the early noon light, a twinkling caught Atsushi’s eye, sunlight reflecting off a small metal band on Dazai’s finger. He smiled, relaxing into Dazai’s hold until he was resting entirely on his body, and placing a kiss right on the ring.
“I’m glad, Osamu,” he muttered softly. “I’m excited, too.”
The two of them sat there, Dazai rubbing absently at Atsushi’s back and relishing in the warmth of his body against his. He never thought he would favor this soothing moment over the exhilarating rush of a new relationship, yet the fulfillment he felt pumping through his veins with each steady beat of his heart proved him wrong yet again. There wasn’t a chance he’d ever grow tired of Atsushi, with his gentle kisses and kind words that pierced through Dazai’s heart every time. Atsushi was an adventure every day: what new way of torturing Dazai would he come up with? What display of affection would he force Dazai to accept, and how long would it be until he brainwashed him into believing he deserved it? The answers were too tempting to know- he couldn’t die until he figured out every answer, and Atsushi always managed to give him a slew of new questions to solve the next day.
After a few moments of sitting against each other, Atsushi pushed against him again and brushed his hair away from his face. “I’m sorry I didn’t let you choose where to put your sticker, Osamu.”
Dazai huffed in faux annoyance. “For such an important one, that should’ve been half the prize!”
“You’re right, you’re right,” Cupping Dazai’s face in both hands, Atsushi pressed a gentle kiss to his nose and chuckled at the heat spreading underneath his fingertips. The smallest kisses always seemed to fluster Dazai- all the more reason to give them to him. “How’s that? Do you forgive me?”
A content hum rumbled deep in Dazai’s chest. “I suppose.”
“Good, because we need to get back to work.”
This earned a sigh. “You are absolutely no fun.”
-
Did wedding ceremonies normally take this long? Dazai felt like he had been standing in front of everyone for hours and they hadn’t even gotten to the vows yet. He felt himself getting antsy again, eager to be able to call Atsushi his husband. The word felt weird on his tongue the first time he said it, and it felt even weirder the thousand times he said it before the day of the wedding as he waited for the last details to be arranged. Kenji had stopped by and asked him why he kept repeating “husband, my husband, I’m Atsushi’s husband and he is my husband, we are husbands,” and left thinking it was some strange tradition for city folk to say the word a thousand times for good luck. Ranpo had fun with that one, and Kunikida prayed the boy would forget that tidbit of knowledge if and when it was his turn to marry. Now, though, he was longing to be able to adjust and to call Atsushi his husband honestly for the first time.
He started stroking Atsushi’s knuckles again, hoping to calm his sudden anxiety. Atsushi squeezed his hands in response, keeping his focus on the officiant so he wouldn’t miss his cue. Were the vows coming soon? Dazai couldn’t care to listen. Instead he marvelled at the sight before him, wondering why he never thought to compare Atsushi to an angel until now. The sunlight seemed to encompass him, providing him with a brilliant aura that only highlighted his soft features. He was stronger than he was before, and had finally put on enough weight that Dazai didn’t worry a particularly strong gust of wind would knock him over. He wouldn’t let Dazai touch his hair yet- he had grown a sort of fondness for it, and Dazai wasn’t putting up much complain at keeping that long strand around for him to tug and twist around his fingers- but he did trim it up to keep out of his face.
Perhaps the best improvements he made were his eyes. They were always beautiful, but now they didn’t seem as cloudy as they used to be. He was more confident, happier, and he had a future and a family to look forward to. Now, as he stole a glance at Dazai, the teasing smirk he gave him lit his eyes up in a way that nearly sent Dazai to tears.
Atsushi was adamant that he owed that light to Dazai, for saving him and taking care of him. Though he was sure the light was all Atsushi’s doing, he didn’t mind taking a little bit of credit, not when it earned him a million thank-you kisses and more. The other parts, he was less lenient on.
-
The dinner had been nice and completely on Atsushi (under the condition he go easy on the sake), which Dazai had no complaints about. Even when Atsushi pointed out that they shared funds, Dazai merely took that as an invitation to drink all the sake he wanted. The restaurant they went to, thankfully, wasn’t too packed- after all, a Wednesday wasn’t much to celebrate. Still, he could tell Atsushi had called ahead when they were led to a nice. semi-private balcony table with only a few other tables around.
That should’ve been a clue as to what was about to happen, but Atsushi had a way of making Dazai feel as if he could let his guard down. He truly didn’t see it coming.
After their pleasant dinner, Dazai was pestering Atsushi for dessert before the sun completely slipped beneath the horizon. A cool breeze blew over them, and Atsushi tucked that strand of hair behind his ear, suddenly bashful. His hands fidgeted in his lap, and he refused to make eye contact with Dazai. What was happening, and what was with that lovesick grin on his face?
“Actually, Osamu, I was hoping I could talk to you first,” Atsushi said, still avoiding his gaze. Dazai tilted his head and shut up, something Atsushi had a talent for making him do and often used at the request of Kunikida at the office. “I wanted to invite you to dinner because I wanted to thank you.”
“Thank me?” Dazai asked. Did he do something out of the ordinary recently?
Atsushi blushed a deeper red. “Yes. For taking such good care of me. I know you’ve always said I didn’t, or shouldn’t, thank you, but I can’t agree…and…well, I’m about to ask something extremely selfish.”
At some point, Atsushi had brought his hands up to grip at the table, so Dazai reached over and grabbed one of them. “I would do anything for my Atsushi-kun! Ask away!”
Pulling his hand away, Atsushi gave him a smile and reached into his pocket. Dazai watched as he slid a small box over to him, checking out of the corner of his eye to see if anybody was watching. “Really? Would you continue to take care of me…forever? I’d do my best every day to take care of you, too. I mean…if you’d like that, that is.”
For a man who prided himself on being on top of every situation, Dazai stared in disbelief at the box for a long time before slowly picking it up. He should’ve seen this coming, really- yet he never allowed himself to hope that Atsushi might want to keep him around for the rest of their lives. Even with the solid proof right in front of him, he still couldn’t believe that Atsushi meant it.
He only remembered that he was keeping Atsushi waiting when he saw panic start to flutter in his eyes. He opened the box and couldn’t help the small gasp when he saw the ring: tiny blue gems on a thin silver band. When he looked back at Atsushi, the panic had subsided, though he was still gritting his teeth as if he had done something wrong.
Hadn’t he learned by now that he could do wrong in Dazai’s eyes?
“I…I’d be honored, Atsushi,” Dazai answered. As if the weight of the world had been lifted off his shoulders, Atsushi grinned and drew his hands back to clutch at his chest. Carefully taking the ring out of the box, Dazai examined it, watching it sparkled as he twisted it in the sunset. “I-If you really think I’m up for the job…”
“I do! Think you’re up for the job, I mean,” he responded, watching Dazai slip the ring on his finger and inspect it again. “And even if you weren’t…I’d still want to take care of you.”
There was no need to ask him why. Just as Dazai helped build Atsushi up and helped him to believe in his own worth, Atsushi helped Dazai too. Dazai wasn’t a savior like Atsushi used to see him as. After all, Atsushi was the one to pull him out of the river that day, so he was the one who started the chain. They used to spend hours on end debating, trying to call the other the hero of the relationship. Though it took an embarrassingly long time, they eventually realized the truth.
There was no one savior. They saved each other, and they took care of each other. It had always been that way, and Dazai wouldn’t want any part of that to change.
-
It took Dazai a moment to realize what was happening until finally he processed the word he had been waiting to hear. Atsushi’s attention was now completely on him, a warm spotlight he wasn’t sure he’d ever want to leave. A list of promises the two of them already made a thousand times over prattled on in the space between them, until the officiant paused his rant. Atsushi showed Dazai the biggest grin he had ever seen; Dazai’s heart fluttered up to his throat. Words he didn’t think anybody would dare to say with him in mind filled the air; somebody sniffled in the crowd.
“I do,” Atsushi said. A jolt went through Dazai’s body, as if he could feel as Atsushi official promise and entrust his heart to him. Dazai suddenly felt unsure on his feet, and his knees trembled.
Another reassuring squeeze, Dazai watched Atsushi switch their hands so he could run a thumb over Dazai’s knuckles. There was a sudden pressure behind Dazai’s eyes threatening to leak out, along with the overwhelming fear that when he opened his mouth his heart would jump out. He spent so much time trying to force it back in its place he almost missed his cue.
He caught the tail end of his half of the vows, and cleared his throat. His voice as unwavering as his faith in the man before him, Dazai nodded. “I do.”
Neither of them needed permission to meet. Dazai wrapped one arm around Atsushi’s waist securely before placing one hand on his cheek and pulling him in. Atsushi could barely return the favor with his grin in the way, and Dazai couldn’t fight his own smile from breaking them apart too soon either. To compensate, he placed kiss after kiss on Atsushi’s face, making sure to cover every inch in his affection before pulling away for a moment.
“You’re sure?” Dazai asked tentatively. “I-If not, I’m sure we could make something up-”
“I’m absolutely sure, Osamu. I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you.”
A sudden burst of happiness exploded within Dazai, finally let free at the prospect of sharing his life with someone who could treat him so delicately. He wasn’t too fond of sobbing in front of Kunikida, so Dazai took that energy and dipped Atsushi down, giving him one final kiss to seal their fate together. Atsushi clutched onto Dazai’s jacket, close enough to his heart Dazai was sure he was able to feel it beating erratically. There was a pink painting Atsushi’s face when he finally lifted him up, and Dazai couldn’t help the laugh that bubbled up from his chest. He pressed Atsushi’s hand to his lips before leading him down the aisle with their hands linked, where their friends- no, their family- cheered them on, welcoming them in their new life together.

i've only seen the last jedi, but i do follow thanks to tumblr
okay, so you get the gist!
spoiler alert: i’ll explain what happened in star wars: the rise of skywalker below the cut.
i’ll try and summarize as much as i can and explain a little. there’s many people who condemn the entire film but honestly, i could have swallowed most of it, save for one stupid storyline. but yeah, i’ll get into it. i’ll be skipping a lot of stuff but i apologize if this ends up being pretty long anyway. to be fair, the movie itself is quite long and they were able to fit a lot of dumb things into it.
also: check out jenny nicholson’s youtube video on the movie!
so, in the opening crawls in star wars films, we usually find out what our heroes and main characters have been up to since the last film. they set the scene: nothing major happens in these opening crawls, but major events are left for the films themselves. well, not in this one! in TROS, the opening crawl reveals that emperor palpatine is back, and we’re supposed to just… accept that without any questions. to me, it seems like star wars’ biggest villain coming back would be a bigger event than a couple lines in the opening crawl and deserves more explanation, but i digress.
cut to kylo ren who gets a sith wayfinder, killing a bunch of people in the progress as per usual, and goes to palpatine’s hidey hole on this uncharted planet. palpatine tells him that snoke was his puppet all along and reveals a massive fleet of star destroyers, which is also left unexplained. palpatine orders kylo ren to kill rey (which later leads him to multiple battles with rey throughout the film.)
at the resistance base, they discover that palpatine is on this planet and they need a sith wayfinder to get there. so here starts a goddamn loooooooong mission of them trying to get this wayfinder (they really could have cut this part of the movie down, especially because the whole thing was so convoluted already.) the person who last had the wayfinder conveniently happens to be an assassin who killed rey’s parents and she keeps having visions of them.
at one point on this mission to find the wayfinder, they’re in a very open area on a desert planet and kylo ren and the knights of ren show up in this massive ship. chewbacca gets captured and is in the ship when rey tries to rescue him by using the force, but accidentally blasts the whole thing with lightning. so they all think chewbacca is dead and they leave. but he isn’t dead, because there just so happened to be another massive ship there that they somehow didn’t see, and rey blasted that one instead, and chewbacca was captured in the other. this makes the entire thing feel cheap and their mourning even more hollow.
eventually rey does sense that chewbacca is alive. on their mission to rescue chewbacca, rey confronts kylo ren once again. kylo ren taunts rey about her parents. he eventually reveals that she is the granddaughter of emperor palpatine and that her parents were nobodies because they “chose” to be, and asks her to join him once again. rey being palpatine’s granddaughter makes less sense than her being, say, rey kenobi.
on the same mission, it’s revealed that general hux has been working as a spy for the resistance, and that his only motivation for doing so was preventing kylo ren from winning. winning what, i don’t know. he saves poe, finn and chewbacca and tries to cover up his tracks but dies later anyway. his whole storyline seemed pretty pointless, which is a shame, because he started out as a pretty interesting character in the force awakens. by the rise of skywalker, he was reduced to a caricature of his former self.
we’re introduced to two new characters at two different points in the film, zorii bliss from poe’s past, and jannah, and ex-stormtrooper just like finn, who, as it happens, becomes quite close to finn. i didn’t dislike either of them whatsoever but i strongly feel like these characters were brought in just to reiterate that finn and poe are very much Not Gay (because, let’s face it, the people at disney are cowards.) the LGBT “rep” we do get is a lesbian couple kissing in the background in one of the final scenes in the movie, in a shot that lasts for approx. 0.2 seconds and that has already been cut from the film in some countries.
on a similar note, rose tico was also completely pushed to the sidelines in this film when she had a huge role in the previous one. they don’t even have a proper explanation for it, which sucks, because kelly marie tran was absolutely fantastic in the role. poe’s and finn’s roles were also reduced quite a lot, and i genuinely failed to see any character development from them and there was a great lack of good, character-building emotional moments across the board.
when rey finally gets to the wayfinder (that is on a destroyed death star) kylo ren confronts her for a third time in the same film and he destroys the wayfinder. when kylo ren and rey are fighting, leia organa reaches out to kylo ren through the force while she is dying, and in this moment, rey gets the upper hand and strikes him. but when she senses leia’s death she suddenly feels remorse for him (????? WHY) and immediately saves him by healing him using the force. the tone shift in the scene is jarring.
in rey leaves and kylo ren suddenly sees his dead father – who he killed – and after speaking to han solo, his nonexistent redemption arc begins and he “becomes ben solo again”. i say nonexistent because it literally came out of nowhere. we seldom saw him doubt the dark side and we only saw him turn away from rey when she tried to turn him to the light, time and time again. in the last jedi, their final shot together was rey literally closing a door on him, i.e. symbolizing her finally giving up on trying to turn him to the good side. but since the rise of skywalker tried to undo everything the last jedi did, of course that didn’t matter anymore.
rey uses kylo ren’s ship to go on the same planet luke had resided on in the force awakens and the last jedi because she’s so shook by her parentage (meanwhile i was shook by the awfulness of this plot while sitting in the cinema audience.) luke’s force ghost shows up to tell rey that she needs to face palpatine and so, here begins the worst final “battle” in star wars history, probably.
the resistance fleet follow rey to the planet where palpatine is. rey finds palpatine, and palpatine encourages rey to kill him so that “his spirit can transfer into her.” this whole scene is extremely awkward because palpatine tells rey his entire plan, narrating all the details. it’s very much “you have to do this so i can do this and this” and it feels like the plot needs him to do this so that the audience understands what’s going on, and it’s so painfully bad. suddenly, kylo ren shows up to help rey. and suddenly, palpatine’s plan changes and he uses rey’s and kylo ren’s force bond to “revitalize” himself. and he’s still explaining every bit of the process.
palpatine starts blasting the resistance fleet with his lighting, yeets kylo ren to a hole in the ground (some kind of chasm? i don’t know) and rey collapses. she suddenly hears the voices of a bunch of jedi ghosts in her head, encouraging her, and gets up and manages to kill not only palpatine but herself as well. kylo ren suddenly reappears and brings rey back to life with force healing. in an extremely awkward and forced moment, they embrace each other and kiss, effectively making reylo canon, all for fan service. he does drop dead, but the scene prior to him dying sends an awful precedent for future watchers of the film. i’m all for letting people ship who they want to ship as long as they’re aware it can be extremely problematic and toxic, but it’s a whole different story when a well-known franchise makes said ship canon.
kylo ren has abused rey mentally and assaulted her physically. he is a mass murderer, a war criminal, and literally killed his own goddamn parent. he has done things that are absolutely unforgivable. in the last scene of the film, someone asks rey who she is, and she decides to say “rey skywalker”; there’s a message in TROS that indicates where you come from doesn’t dictate whether you’re “bad” or “good” – see: rey being a palpatine but being a good character. if kylo ren had represented the opposite of rey to the end, i.e. how he came from a good background but still decided to turn to the dark side, the message the film was trying to send wouldn’t have been so undermined.
the last film also makes rey’s entire purpose in the sequel trilogy tied to kylo ren, and it genuinely angers me – they just couldn’t leave her storyline be, could they? her purpose all along was, yes, to kill palpatine, but also to get kylo ren to turn away from the dark side, to help him, to “cure him”. we’re supposed to believe that all along she wanted to “take ben’s hand” and that she was in love with her abuser.
my biggest problem is with this film’s influence and what they decided to do. the fact that they made a romantic scene between the abuser and his abuse victim makes my skin crawl. i could have accepted everything else, but not this. it’s my one big problem with the movie that i cannot, for the life of me, overlook. little kids are going to see this movie. they’re going to see kylo ren murdering, manipulating, abusing people for two and a half movies straight. and they’re going to watch him be redeemed like a second-rate darth vader. but at least darth vader lost everything when he turned to the dark side, reiterating that the dark side is genuinely Very Bad. at least darth vader died without getting a reward like rey was used as kylo ren’s reward for his “redemption arc.” i wish this film hadn’t used rey like it did, but it happened; at moments, she was reduced to a prop in kylo ren’s story instead of her continually being an individual in her own story.
there’s probably a better version of this film somewhere because it feels like a million ideas smashed into one big mess and i sometimes felt like i was watching a fan-film rather than a real star wars movie. the makers of this film being disney, they were trying to please everyone, and that was the biggest mistake they could have possibly made. they didn’t have a solid plan for the sequel trilogy, and it shows. painfully well.

“Aren’t we supposed to be on our best behavior?” You halt Jeongguk’s hand from sneaking up your thigh for the third time in the span of a few minutes. Your boyfriend quirked a brow but otherwise gave you no other response, simply turning back to pick at his meal.
It was a quaint little night that Jeongguk decided to make more eventful by picking you up after your shift at work to treat you to dinner with his family. Sweet enough, the sentiment felt genuine and you loved to spend time with him and you certainly didn’t mind being joined by his parents and brother. They enjoyed the restaurant he’d chosen, chewing away happily at the meat that was cooked to perfection. Even his brother—the picky little eater he is—was more than content with the meal.
But a seemingly innocent night out was turning out to be more than just that if Jeongguk’s wandering hands and sly tongue was anything to go by. Not only were his fingers itching to be in place you didn’t want his mother to catch him at but he was also endlessly teasing you with heated murmurs and hushed promises into your ear. It made you want nothing more than to head back to the car and take him up on all of his big talk.
Even as you playfully tugged at his shirt Jeongguk still clearly had only one thing on his mind.
“Babe, stop that.” He chuckled, pushing away your hands.
“What? I’m not doing anything wrong.”
“You’re pulling up my shirt.”
You shrugged and looked him dead in the eyes. “So? Do you wanna do the same to me? You can if you want.”
Jeongguk leaned in closer, eyes looking darker with a filthier intent swirling in his irises.
“Baby girl, if it’s not coming off completely then I don’t want it.” The statement caught you off guard and you felt your skin break out in goosebumps as shivers ran down your spine. His words alone were enough to ensure you were definitely damp in your underwear, let alone the way he was looking at you. You were so ready to risk it all and give him exactly what the two of you wanted.
Thank goodness for his family’s preoccupation with dinner; it made you sort of glad Jeongguk had chosen a Korean BBQ restaurant as they focused on the cooking meat in the middle and kept themselves entertained while the two of you were in your own world—albeit an inappropriate one.
The night wasn’t getting any easier as you were forced to continue through dinner with arousal in your bottoms and the thought of your boyfriend’s matching situation; although his was significantly drier and much harder. If only the restaurant wasn’t so packed, they might’ve heard the things their dear son had been whispering to you this whole time. And he’s supposedly an ‘angel’ compared to you.
“Ma, kid’s knocked out—maybe you guys should bounce now? I’ll take care of the check, don’t worry about it.” Jeongguk spied his brother asleep on the table and you wondered if he’d actually been expressing concern for his sibling and graciously took up the check on his own accord or if he was just so impatient to get you somewhere more private that he’d willingly kick his family out of their own dinner night and fork over a serious sum for you.
After some light protesting, Jeongguk’s family excused themselves and headed out after giving their goodbyes. Your boyfriend promised to be home soon after he finished dropping you off, after which he’d turned to give you a salacious smirk that had you knowing you sure as hell weren’t going straight home just yet. He’d marked off the check and you took care of the tip since you thought it was the very least you could do. After all, Jeongguk had covered the entire check without so much as letting you reach into your purse. God forbid you offer to pay half—you’d never hear the end of it.
He seemed to have pure enough intentions to the untrained eye: he held your hand gently as he led you to the car and opened the door for you, hummed small tunes as he kept his eyes on the road, minus a peck or two along the way. But once you turned into the familiarly hidden back road that you two had come to know so well, you already knew it was all an act. Your body began to react instantaneously, excitement racking up as you anticipated the night’s oncoming explorations.
Jeongguk parked, hand lingering on the gear shift as his other digits swept over the lights to turn them off, consequently leaving you two in the near-darkness of his car with only the radio and dashboard to illuminate the space between your faces before they came to meet in the middle. Impatience ruled over your senses as your hands traveled and roamed wherever they could reach. They tugged at his hair, grasped his neck and clutched at his top. Jeongguk’s were doing very similar things, though most of his focus was poured into sneaking under your shirt to feel for your chest instead.
While one hand was already under a cup of your bra, his other hand had taken hold of your own that had previously been on his neck to trail down where he forced you clamp over his length. He growled at the touch, the organ hot even over his clothes.
“That’s all your fault; look what you did to me.”
Whilst his talk and growls turned you on immensely, you couldn’t help but protest a bit that his current situation wasn’t necessarily a one man job but your arguing only egged him on further. His hand got tighter and you felt his dick twitch—you couldn’t help but moan into his mouth as he kissed you aggressively. Everything grew in intensity as your urges made you two that much more desperate. In just a few minutes the two of you were in the backseat of his car as you both made quick work of your clothes.
Once you were both left in just your undergarments, it became increasingly impossible to peel the two of you apart and figure out where one of you ended and the other began. The interior of the car grew hot between your shared breaths, Jeongguk’s palms searing onto your hips as he guided you to straddle him. His eyes were dark and half-lidded as he felt your body press up against his. He groaned audibly and pushed you down harder, forcing you to feel every ridge on his length as it bumped and grinded against your core.
You ached to remove the small remainder of clothes left, desperate to feel Jeongguk in all his entirety and have him pulsing inside of you but you weren’t sure if you could handle that ferocity just yet. So you allowed him to guide you against him, relishing in the deep pressure he placed where you were most sensitive. His hands continued to touch and stroke your body whenever they weren’t gripping tightly at your hips or shoulders to push you down harder onto him.
“Baby girl, you’re so stunning. Especially when you’re wearing these sort of things for me.” Jeongguk murmured, his voice low and deep enough to nearly be lost in the night between your labored breaths and pounding hearts. His fingers traced along the lacy fabric of your underwear, the intertwining lines in the designs along your hips giving him a track to follow with his digits. He let them lead his hand to your back, where he took a solid grip of your ass and made sure to leave a soreness behind after he released. Jeongguk sucked in through his teeth, feeling his dick twitch from how much your body turned him on. It only made things that much harder when you dressed up pretty for him. Despite him continuously saying how he’ll always find you gorgeous no matter what you wear or how much or how little effort you put into your looks, you still made sure to be your absolute best if to at least assuage your own insecurities. After all, the pretty underwear was mostly for him but partly for yourself. There was something rather empowering knowing that wearing such a saucy little slip made your boyfriend go mad.
Something about lace always got him though, so you usually made your choices with that in mind specifically for him since it’s just another fabric type to you. As long as he’s content, you are too.
“All for you, daddy. No one else gets to have me—”
“Or see you, right?”
You nodded, hands on Jeongguk’s shoulders as you rubbed tiny circles on the glowing skin there. How he manages to look toned even there had you speechless.
“Only you.”
“That’s my girl. That’s how I like it baby, you know how I don’t like sharing. You’re—all—mine.” He accented the last three words with sharp smacks to your ass, each word punctuated with the sting against your rear. Sometimes he’d do so in order to punish you for acting out or teasing him relentlessly but there were times such as this where he just gets so into it that he can’t help from doing what comes to mind first.
It’s like when he pulls your hair or chokes you as he drives into you, a split second decision that intensifies the moment for the two of you unexpectedly.
You looped your arms around Jeongguk’s neck as you coyly looked at him through your lashes, enticing him with your stare as you slowly brought your hips flush to meet his. The grind has him rolling his eyes and head lolling back, Adam’s apple bobbing as he took a large gulp of air in. You allowed him to relish the sensations for a hot second before threading your fingers into his hair and giving it a good yank back up. He hisses at the contact, the feeling making him tense up and moan as you guide your lips to his.
His kisses are relentless and powerful, quite literally ripping the air out of you as his lips grow more insistent against yours. He aches with need and yearns to be inside you more than anything else. As he feels the soaked sensation of your underwear against himself, he feels his resolve slipping.
It surely doesn’t help that you slipped a digit of his into your mouth, Jeongguk completely missing when you even grabbed for his hand prior. His moan came out broken—short staccatos as you licked and sucked at his finger, giving him the dirtiest fantasies and bringing the best memories of what your mouth is capable of elsewhere.
“Baby… Baby girl please, I need you,” Jeongguk pleaded breathlessly, feeling the tendrils of pleasure sink deep inside his gut as he neared closer to sweet release. You let his finger slip from your mouth, spit gleaming from your lips and the tip of his finger in the night light.
“Need what, daddy? I thought you liked what we were doing.”
Playing innocent was something you really enjoyed with him, it got the two of you more riled up than either of you liked to admit. Something about the power play probably and the push and pull between the two of you as you teetered between pleasure and torture.
Jeongguk panted harder as you took his finger back in, this time accompanying it with the one adjacent to it. It gave more of a fullness to your mouth and you allowed them to snake back towards your throat, making you choke on them in a way that made a mess of your mouth, chin and his hand.
“Baby girl, I want your mouth to do that to my cock. Now.”
With his fingers still in your mouth, you looked up at him and proceeded to suckle harder. He inhaled a quick, sharp breath at the action.
“Baby, please.”
Abiding to his kind wishes, you popped his fingers out of your mouth and gave them one final parting kiss before sliding your way down to kneel at the base of the car seat. It gave you a full view of the tent in his briefs, along with the shadow of where you moistened his bottoms.
Wasting no more time—and not giving his dick a single second to soften—Jeongguk reached into his underwear to pull himself out and stroke his cock a few times. It was fat with blood and you wondered how you resisted putting it into your mouth this long. Without another second lost, you went forward to suck at the head and gave it some much needed attention.
Instantaneously, Jeongguk reared up at the warmth of your mouth finally coming in contact with his sensitive member. He placed his palm at the base of your head, the other hand clawing at the car seat next to him as you lapped away at his pre come. His senses came to him after a moment, taking that hand to instead pull away any stray hairs that were getting in the way of what you were doing.
You took him deeper, his groan signaling that he was more than okay with your decisions. It took a long time, but you’ve managed to nearly deep throat his impressive length after choking far too many times in the past to count. He was always kind and patient as you learned to breathe effectively and do everything not to trigger your gag reflex. At this point you weren’t all the way there yet but you were able to fit enough in your mouth to make your jaw ache and Jeongguk certainly had no complaints of you not reaching all the way back just yet. If anything, he wasn’t sure how he’d handle when you did make it there, considering it already felt drop dead amazing with whatever you’re doing now.
It had him thrusting, gripping and hissing; every nerve ending on fire as you stimulated him. He swore he had no stamina when it came to this solely because of your prowess but despite that, you still felt like he lasted plenty long considering how much you worked while you were down there.
“Baby, I’m not gonna last—you teased me so much, I’m getting close already.”
Your boyfriend crooned as you did everything you knew drove him nuts, familiarity keeping track of your movements as you pushed further and further to bring him to the edge. It was now that you had to kick everything into high gear, giving him the prettiest bedroom eyes from where you knelt in order to entice him even more. He melted at the sight of your eyes on him and you felt his hands tighten where they were respectively, your scalp slightly stinging at the grip he had on your hair still.
It was as if every muscle in your body was on high alert, your hands wandering as you tried to bring your boyfriend to his limit sooner. He trembled under your touch, your name dripping from his maw as he sighed breathily. You knew he’d come any second now, his cock throbbing and twitching under your tongue. You always could tell when he was about to come and so you pulled off, hand hastily reaching to jerk him off close to the head where he liked it most. Jeongguk’s voice shook as you asked him where he wanted to finish. Without so much as a few words uttered, you positioned his cock towards your face and let his hand engulf yours to take him to the finish line.
His voice was gruff as he let out his final moans, utter bliss taking over his body while he began to release along your mouth and down your chin. It was more than just messy, but that was how you two liked it; oddly enough.
Jeongguk’s body released all of the tension that had strung it tight just moments ago, his panting causing his chest to heave where you were leant against. You allowed him to recuperate and catch his breath while you did the same, though you spent most of the time thinking of how hot it felt to be made all dirty the way he had done to you.
Something about the mess and humiliation and ultimate submission did something to you, deep and carnally.
Jeongguk didn’t mind, in fact, he embraced that kinkier side of you and even went along with it as he discovered parts of himself he never knew he contained while exploring each other’s likes and dislikes. You’d taught him a lot and allowed him to flourish in this sort of area, to both of your satisfactions.
You couldn’t help yourself as you dipped down to mess with his dick again, licking and kissing and occasionally sucking it despite the softening of the organ. Jeongguk would make noises and jostle some but he allowed you to enjoy yourself, knowing you were next to be pleased.
“Alright baby, that’s enough. It’s sensitive,” Jeongguk semi-whined, sounding cuter than his dominant self was just a few mere moments ago. You looked up and beamed with pride at how you made Jeongguk turn into a soft pile of goo, all with some good oral practice and a little bit of creativity. “Don’t you think it’s your turn now?”
Quivers took over your body as you imagined just how Jeongguk would even out the score for the night, knowing neither of you ever could handle doing this just once during a night like this. No, you two would be here for a few hours at least; taking turns and switching between cuddling and fooling around.
“Baby girl, you have to make a mess on me now.”
You’d certainly be here for a while for sure. Not that either of you minded, clearly.

Two Hundred and Ninety-Four - From Yesterday, 3.0
A/N: Happy Sunday, everyone, and happy loooooooong weekeeeeeeeeeend! I know I’ve been all sweetness and light the last few days… but now it’s time to dim the lights and go dark. Buckle up, friendos.
I do not own FMA.
Two Hundred and Ninety-Four - From Yesterday, 3.0
“Can I trust you with my father’s research?”
Roy’s already sinking stomach dropped with a suddenness to somewhere around the heels of his shoes, dropped in time with the whisper of her blouse falling from her shoulders. He stared, disbelieving, feeling cemented to the spot and that he must be hallucinating… and knowing that this was all too real.
How many times had he cast a surreptitious look at the modestly dressed young woman, teenage hormones wanting to know why she tried so hard to hide the curves of a body that beautiful. As far as he could tell, she had no outward flaw, no shocking defect, nothing whatsoever to be ashamed of….
But, oh… she did.
Dirty little secret, his mind thought, unbidden, and he squashed those words with sudden embarrassment. He forced himself to take a step forward, just one, and it felt as though he were wading through chest high mud.
“…All this time… you had it? You had his research?”
He saw her head nod, though his eyes were fixed on the lines of red ink that covered her back. “It was the only way he could think of that would allow him to write the formulas and still keep them from falling into the wrong hands,” she said quietly. “I would have to decided to show them, and he trusted my judgement on who they should be shown to.”
Her head turned, her brown eyes watching the floorboards even though she spoke to him. “Aside from him and myself, you’re the only other person who has seen them.” She turned slightly to see him better, arms folded across her bare chest in as much modesty as she could maintain.
Her eyes, before so calm but still troubled by the events of recent days, found his. Roy’s stomach, before trying to climb back up to its proper place, froze in wary dread. He had the distinct feeling that those whisky-brown eyes could turn either pleasantly warm or frigidly cold depending on how he responded.
“I would hope, Mr. Mustang, you wouldn’t give me cause to regret showing you.”
He tried to swallow, but found his mouth too dry to manage much more than an approximation of the action. It took him another second to find his voice. “Miss Hawkeye, I can assure you… I’ll try my damndest.”
---------------
Both of them glanced around as they reached his tent, making sure no one was paying attention before they entered. With all the celebrating going on, no one noticed two more people among the crowd. Small bonfires burned, dotted around the encampment, each with fifteen to twenty soldiers in varying stages of inebriation gathered around. Uproarious singing and shouting hung on the warm night air, sparks flying skyward as the Amestrians celebrated or got head starts on drinking to forget.
The tent’s interior was dim from the light of a single lamp beside the field cot, and squared away, ready to be stowed and packed onto a transport at a moment’s notice. A narrow space was open in the middle, just big enough for the two of them to stand.
“Hold on a second.” Raising the lid on the locker at the foot of the cot, Roy slid a hand down the side and felt about for a moment before pulling out a silver pocket flask. He shook it lightly, listening, then nodded in satisfaction and held it out to her. “If we’re going to do this, you should at least take a sip of this. Call it battlefield anaesthetic.”
He could see her fingers tremble slightly as she took it, brown eyes unreadable as she studied the shiny metal. “I thought the common term was ‘liquid courage,’” she murmured, unscrewing the cap.
Roy tried a smile, but knew it didn’t reach his eyes. Nervousness knotted in his stomach, making him feel like he might be sick. “I’ve seen guys half as brave as you call it that… but you’ve got enough of your own that you don’t need it for that.” Her eyes watched him as she took a careful sip. “I guess I’m kind of hoping it’ll… that it’ll help dull the pain.”
She lowered the flask, gasping only slightly at the burn going down her throat. When she spoke, her voice was huskier than it had been a moment before. “Sir, you and I both know I’d need to drink about five of these for that to happen. And I don’t think we have that kind of time before either my nerve fails, yours does… or both.”
She screwed the cap back on, her eyes still fast on his. “I asked you, almost three years ago, if you would cause me to regret sharing my father’s research with you. You said you would try, and I’m sure you did, but everything I’ve seen since I got here has given me nothing but regret.” She pressed the flask firmly back into his hand. “This is your chance to make up for disappointing me.”
He wondered, vaguely, if she could actually see the cracks forming on his heart. Also vaguely came a memory of Chris Mustang, arms folded and frowning at some childhood transgression, and then the dreaded words. I’m not angry; I’m just disappointed.
Roy gave brief consideration to draining whatever remained in the flask, but dropped it back into the foot locker and kicked it closed. “As I told you then,” he said quietly, “I’ll try my damndest.”
They settled to the grit in the open space in the centre, Riza facing away from him like she had been when he found her burying some nameless Ishvalan child. She slowly, self-consciously, shucked the tan overcoat, the uniform jacket, and the short-sleeved shirt underneath, setting it all to one side. She looked back, and nodded.
Roy was sure, for a moment, it was the lamplight reflecting in her eyes, only making them look like they were burning… until he realized the lamp was in front of her. It couldn’t reflect in those hard, determined ‘do-it-now’ eyes unless it sat behind him. His stomach clenched, and he was preparing to nod affirmation before something lit in her expression.
“Hold on.”
In another minute, she had taken off her belt. Facing away from him still, he saw her put the leather between her teeth, and the cracks in his heart began to split a little farther. Her ‘Okay’ was muffled somewhat, but Roy forced himself to lift his hand, not giving her or himself much more time to think.
The first bolt of fiery lightning hit her a few inches to the right of exact centre. The worst part was the sound she made, or rather, the complete lack of it. Aside from a hissing exhale around the belt, she didn’t scream, didn’t cry, didn’t even whimper. Her shoulders drew up tensely, and Roy saw sweat begin to appear on the back of her neck. His stomach rolled, but he gritted his teeth against the nausea, chose his target, and snapped again.
This time, the bolt struck her high on the right shoulder. Riza’s right arm almost buckled, toppling her to the sand, but at the last second, she locked her elbow and stayed upright. Another hissing breath out, and sweat began to trickle down her back; Roy winced, praying it wouldn’t touch either of the still-smoking rents in her skin. Bad enough that they burned, but to to get salt in —
No. Focus.
The third bolt was the worst, because it was less of a bolt and edging toward a ball. He had planned it this way, and watched it splash against her left shoulder blade, knowing that this time, she was going to scream and finish the task of breaking his heart. He tensed, bracing himself….
All she did was arch her back, lithe and catlike, and Roy had a brief glimpse of just how deep her teeth were sunk into the leather belt. She came out of the convulsion, paused, then drew her right fist up and slammed it down into the sand in a physical expression of impotent fury and pain.
Roy watched, feeling entirely helpless and drained as she sat still, shaking, with sweat still rolling down her back… and then she slowly drew the belt from her mouth and let herself sink forward to press her forehead to the sand.
Stomach still roiling, Roy forced himself to move up next to her, picking up the belt to toss it aside… and getting far too good a look at the marks in the leather. Marks through which he could see glimpses of sand and lamplight.
She bit clear through it…. Nearly tore a chunk out of the damn thing, he thought absently, then hurriedly twisted aside and vomited into a bare patch of sand near where the side of the tent met the ground.
He felt her hand on his back after the second heave. There wasn’t much to come up; he spit and wiped his mouth before looking back to her. Riza’s eyes were alarmingly half-closed and glazed over, her skin ashy pale and mouth parted as she sucked in careful breaths.
“Did you… get it… all?”
For a brief second, he thought she was talking about his stomach contents, then realized what she meant. Roy shook his head, feeling dazed. “No… if I did that…. Riza, I’d kill you for sure.” The haze disappeared from her vision, and hot spots of colour bloomed on her cheeks. She was preparing to tell him off for not following her wishes no matter the cost. He continued. “But the parts I destroyed… they’re essential for anyone to understand the process. Without those, the information is useless.”
The fire faded from her look, and he shifted, carefully drawing her into his arms. Catching hold of her tan jacket, he pulled it over her like a blanket. Riza hissed again as one of the burns brushed against his leg in passing; he felt the residual heat from the skin. “You’ve seen it all,” he said softly, “but you never understood it. The only person alive who knows every bit of your father’s research is me… and after everything I’ve done, I’m not telling anybody. The world doesn’t need another Flame Alchemist.” He laughed humourlessly. “They probably don’t even need this one.”
She drew one hand from under the jacket, lifting it to rest against the back of his head. She pulled gently, forcing him down to her level. Dry lips pressed to his cheek. “The world… maybe not,” she murmured, sounding as dazed as he felt. “But I think I need you.”
When she allowed him to draw back, she was smiling faintly… and there was a spark of that fire burning far down behind her eyes. If Roy hadn’t just thrown up, he felt he could have kissed her.
“Fresh start, Flame Alchemist,” Riza said softly, her hand still in his hair. “Make me proud. Try your damndest.”
